Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday appeared to link the shooting at a congressional baseball practice that injured at least five to the controversial production of “Julius Caesar” in which the slain Roman dictator was outfitted in a way that resembled President Trump.
Following the shooting Wednesday morning, President Trump’s son retweeted a comment from CNN and Fox News contributor Harlan Hill, who drew a straight line from “events like today” to “glorifying the assassination” of the president in a theatrical production.
A gunman in Alexandria, Va., fired scores of rounds at Republican lawmakers and aides who were practicing before the bipartisan Congressional Baseball Game, which was set to take place on Thursday.
GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise (La.), an aide to Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) and others were wounded, according to multiple reports.
The tweet refers to the Public Theater’s New York current run of “Julius Caesar.” The actor playing Caesar is intended to resemble Trump with blondish hair, a two-piece suit with a long tie and an American flag pin.
The president’s son is among those who have questioned if art that is turned into “political speech” could affect its taxpayer funding after the Shakespeare in the park production.
The play followed on the heels of the public outcry when comedian Kathy Griffin posed in a photo shoot where she held a fake, bloody severed head that resembled Trump.
Scalise is undergoing surgery after being shot and he is said to be in stable condition, according to his office.
The leftist thug has been sent, via express bullet train, straight to Hell. The death of this leftist thug means one less vote for his idol Bernie Sanders the socialist kook. Also this leftist’s trip to Hell means one less “superfan” of Rachel Maddow.
There are a lot of details. It was the security detail of Steve Scalise that returned fire on the leftist thug. If not for the fact that Steve Scalise is a member of the GOP leadership and therefore has a security detail, the leftist thug would have been in a free fire zone able to kill Republican congressional members and staff at will:
Scalise and several others were injured, but it could’ve been far worse, the senator — who was there — said. [snip]
But according to Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who was there, it could have been far, far worse. Had Capitol Police not been there as part of a security detail for Scalise, Paul said in an interview with MSNBC, “it would’ve been a massacre.”
Paul explained that after the gunman fired 50 to 60 shots, hitting Scalise and others, he was eventually taken down by Capitol Police. But, he pointed out, those Capitol Police officers were only there in such force because Scalise himself — as Majority Whip, he is a member of the Republican leadership team who travels with a security detail — was present.
“Everybody probably would’ve died except for the fact that the Capitol Hill Police were there, and the only reason they were there is because we had a member of leadership on our team,” Paul said. “If Scalise wouldn’t have been on the team — unfortunately he was hit and I hope he does well — but also by him being there it probably saved everyone else’s life, because if you don’t have a leadership person there, it would’ve been no security there.”
He continued: “Because there’s no escaping a guy with — if he’s got several hundred bullets, and we had no weapons, and no place to hide. So if he would’ve advanced on the rest of us, there would’ve been no chance. The only chance we had was that the shots were returned by the Capitol Hill Police.”
Time to get armed in D.C. if you are a Trump supporter. Time to get armed in college if you are a Trump supporter too. Time to get armed everywhere in America if you are a Trump supporter. Think we exaggerate or overreact? Not with these animals on the loose:
Left-Wing Twitter Celebrates Shooting of Rep. Scalise
No sooner did news break that a gunman shot Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) were left-wing Twitter users celebrating the attack — in which two Capitol Police were also shot, as well as a congressional staffer, and possibly more.
Activist and media personality, Tariq Nasheed, appeared to indicate support for the shooting on Twitter: [snip]
Author Malcom Harris, “joked”(?) that the shooter may have simply been acting in self-defense: [snip]
Twitter user “Leon Trotsky” wrote that Scalise’s shooting was “karma” for his “tea bag” beliefs: [snip]
Twitter user “Charles Oakley” wrote that “the KKK fucker deserved it”: [snip]
Technology writer WaltIsFrozen said the attack will have a “silver lining” if the shooter was indeed targeting Republicans specifically: [snip]
“RestlessNews” created a meme that suggested the attack is the definition of “karma”: [snip]
Other left-wing Twitter users said they hoped this shooting would encourage Scalise to rethink his support for gun rights — as he’s a “whore” for the NRA: [snip]
Others tried to use the atrocity as an excuse to make jokes about health-care reform: [snip]
Others suggested the Scalise shooting was justified owing to the congressman’s beliefs: [snip]
UPDATE: The shooter, identified as James T. Hodgkinson, appears to be a Bernie Sanders fan. His Facebook page reads, “Democratic Socialism in Three Words: ‘We the People.'”
One of his most recent posts says, “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.” [sic]
“I want Bernie to Win the White House.” he wrote Aug. 12th, 2016.
Today is not “send a leftist thug to Hell” day. Today is Flag Day. Today is President Donald J. Trump’s birthday.
President Trump received an early birthday gift when this week his wife Melania and young son of 11 years Barron Trump moved to the White House now that young Barron has finished his school year.
We wish President Donald J. Trump a very happy birthday and a healthy and long life well past the next eight years he will live in the White House.
Today is also Flag Day. The “President’s Own” The Marine Band is a happy confluence of the birthday and Flag Day as they play “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
Hear that leftist thugs?
As to the American flag itself, the symbolism is appropriate and lifts the patriotic heart. In addition the American flag has a lovely design – it is a lovely flag. There are other flags that are nice looking, but the American flag has a certain oomph to it. That deep blue field with the glow of stars on it, the stripes of alternating red and white which while resting colorfully grabs the attention with it’s dignity.
The American flag when in movement, when the wind catches it…
It’s a grand ol’ flag. It’s a high flying flag.
Forever in peace may it wave. It’s a emblem of, the land… the home of the free and the brave.
Jared Kushner should be worried. Steve Bannon should be worried. Reince Priebus should be worried. They should all be worried and that’s because of President Trump’s brilliant management style.
Every management style has plusses and minuses. We happen to prefer President Trump’s management style. The other management style used by people such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama simply does not work in our modern society with all its divisions.
Trump’s management style? President Trump is the center of the wheel. This makes President Trump a centripetal force when it comes to information. PDT sucks up information from all his aides, TV, publications, critics, everything and everyone.
The management style we don’t think works for a modern president is the pyramid management style. That is the management style of people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. This pyramid style is very structured and everyone has a place in the pyramid. The president at the top of the pyramid has all his/her incoming information filtered through those immediately below him on the pyramid.
Big Media and the establishment of the country prefer the pyramid management style. Everyone has a place and all information is filtered through the pyramid. There are few if any surprises in the pyramid. The pyramid management style is excellent if your goal is structure and order. It’s not so good at getting things done other than the conventional. Lately conventional does not work.
President Trump’s management style is a vortex. It appears to be chaotic to everyone but the president at the center. Everyone competes to get the attention of the vortex center and the old rules of hierarchy and order are caught in the whirlwind.
Big Media hates the vortex. Big Media has long believed they are the masters of information. Big Media has been usurped by the center of the wheel for information gathering and information dissemination. Consider the latest “analysis” by Vanity Fair in their much discussed (by Big Media and Trump haters) article on the Trump White House:
THE INSIDE STORY OF THE KUSHNER-BANNON CIVIL WAR
West Wing sources come clean about the backstabbing, the bullying, the distrust, and the buzzing flies. [snip]
Priebus’s role is, by Trump’s design, less powerful than that of a traditional chief of staff. Typically, the chief of staff is meant to serve as the main gatekeeper to the president—having one person atop the hierarchy with unquestioned authority is essential—but Trump’s management style has long been to pit top aides against one another, and almost any senior aide can just wander into the Oval Office.
Oh, the horror!!! Vanity Fair cannot comprehend a free flow of information to the president. Vanity Fair craves the pyramid structure which has so spectacularly failed American voters/citizens with such regularity.
As a public service we will digest and excrete the entire Vanity Fair article which has titillated Big Media narratives for our readers. Vanity Fair‘s entire article on the Trump White House is one cheap and easy conceit. Vanity Fair declares that the Trump White House is like a “reality show”. The entire article populates the imagined “reality show” with characters from the Trump orbit. Isn’t that a “wow” so very very original? Uninspired bitchiness from hacks is the fare of Vanity Fair these days.
As with everything from Big Media these days, insipid chit-chat is what passes for “analysis” from Vanity Fair. Big Media takes everything Trump and puts a negative spin on it. It’s easy to do. Anyone can do it. If you have a loving relationship with a person, just label it “co-dependent” or “exploitative”. If a wonderful new technology is developed, describe all the horrors that could potentially come from the technology. You fall in love, “oh girlfriend you’re gonna regret it”. Anything and everything is turned into negative energy chit chat. Whatever it is, it is not “analysis”.
Good analysis of the Trump White House should examine the benefits and drawbacks of the Trump management style. The big drawback of the Trumpcentric universe is that if anything happens to Trump there will be a black hole of gravity at the center which will threaten to consume everything. Also, for the not very astute outside the vortex, the vortex appears as chaos. But as has been demonstrated since June 15, 2015 the vortex wins in the end and creates its own order and results. As long as President Trump remains healthy and active, we believe the benefits of the Trump vortex are greater than its deficits.
Of course the Trump vortex is not very good for those who work for Trump. The voter and President Trump benefit from the vortex but not the aides.
Consider Jared Kushner, the son-in-law. Big Media has declared that Jared Kushner is now king of the hill. To the extent that Kushner is family he is well positioned. Kushner, to quote from the chit-chat Vanity Fairairhead gossips is ascendant:
Ivanka Trump, who could play the No-BS Heiress in our reality show, and her husband, Jared, the Crafty In-Law, are both children of privilege and are both extraordinarily loyal to their fathers. The senior administration official told me that, with this president, it is “family above all else. That’s how he has lived his life. Anybody thinking they are going to win a fight against the family is not very smart.” Kushner has reportedly described himself as a “first among equals” among White House staffers—not an endearing self-assessment, but probably an accurate one—and has been given an almost laughable assortment of responsibilities. He is tasked not only with bringing peace to the Middle East but also with re-inventing the way the entire government does business. He is heavily involved in policy regarding China. He recently made a surprise trip to Iraq. In addition, he is now the boss of his father’s former tormentor, Chris Christie, who heads a White House commission to tackle the opioid crisis. Christie was the prosecutor who helped put Jared’s father, Charles Kushner, in prison, and Jared has not forgotten.
If Vanity Air tried to do “analysis” not gossip the mag rag could have pondered the situation Jared Kushner finds himself in. From the world of real estate in New York/New Jersey Jared Kushner has a background not entirely dissimilar from President Trump. But where President Trump is the center of the vortex, consuming information, and due to his life in public and the tabloids, able to command from the executive suite – Jared Kushner has very specific assignments to carry out on behalf of President Trump.
President Trump can make general decisions and issue orders. But no one expects President Trump to be an operative who picks up the hammer and saw to get the job done. That is precisely the situation Jared Kushner is in right now.
Jared Kushner has some very specific assignments. Will he succeed or fail? Middle East peace, China, opiods? That’s a very diverse portfolio. If Jared Kushner succeeds in these tasks who would be so churlish as to be unhappy he has done his job well? If Jared Kushner fails, then he will be called Icarus.
Anyone recall candidate Ben Carson? To be discreet and our typical sweet selves we won’t quote what Candidate Trump said about Candidate Carson. But it had something to do with Carson trying to kill his mother. Candidate Lyin’ Ted? Again, discretion is the better part of our nature, and we don’t mention Candidate Trump saying something about the assassination of JFK and Heidi and Daddy Cruz. Now Cruz helps PDT. Remember the wack-a-doodle two headed dentist, Candidate Rand Paul and the mockery unleashed by Candidate Trump against the diminutive senator? Senator Rand Paul is now a big Trump fan. What happened? It was the Trump Doctrine at play:
Do what President Trump wants you to do, and he loves you. Stand in President Trump’s way and a MOAB lands on your head.
Remember when Candidate Trump denounced NATO as obsolete? Now NATO is dancing to President Trump’s tune – taking on once-upon-a-time friend Putin and paying up on their dues. Result? President Trump no longer slaps NATO as obsolete. Trump “Art of the Deal-ed” them. President Trump got what Americans wanted – so as long as they do what this American president wants, NATO’s wheel spoke is up.
Remember the Import-Export Bank that Candidate Trump denounced – promised he would destroy? NeverTrump hysterics flow from President Trump’s latest moves on the Import-Export Bank. What did President Trump do? President Trump violated his campaign pledge to eliminate the bank. Or did he? President Trump just appointed Scott Garrett to the Import-Export Bank Board. Who is Scott Garrett? He hates the Import-Export Bank and nothing can be done without his “yes” vote.
China’s spoke on the wheel is up right now because China is doing what President Trump wants for the American people. Remember what President Trump said about China on the campaign trail? For diplomacy’s sake we won’t quote Candidate Trump. As long as China does what President Trump wants, China will be wined, dined, and praised. Until the moment when the wheel turns China is on top. The wheel will turn when President Trump makes more “Art of the Deal-y” demands.
Deng Xiaoping Theory (simplified Chinese: 邓小平理论; traditional Chinese: 鄧小平理論; pinyin: Dèng Xiǎopíng Lǐlùn), also known as Dengism, is the series of political and economic ideologies first developed by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. The theory does not claim to reject Marxism–Leninism or Mao Zedong Thought but instead seeks to adapt them to the existing socio-economic conditions of China.
Deng also stressed opening China to the outside world, the implementation of one country, two systems, and through the phrase “seek truth from facts“, an advocation of political and economic pragmatism. [snip]
One of the most famous maxims of Deng, dating back to the years before the Cultural Revolution, states that “It doesn’t matter whether a cat is white or black, as long as it catches mice.” In other words, he did not worry too much about whether a person is a revolutionary or not, as long as he or she is efficient and capable to do the job under the socialist economy. (This statement came to stand in opposition to the ideas of class struggle projected into economic relations, the latter being epitomized in a phrase “a socialist train coming with a delay is better than the capitalist one that comes on time“).
China largely owes its economic growth to the pragmatism of Deng Xiaoping’s theory. The task faced by Deng was twofold: to promote modernization while preserving the ideological unity of the CPC and its control of the difficult process of reforms.
If President Trump quoted commie Deng Xiaoping our Big Media would fawn all over sweetie pie commie Trump. President Trump is not commie Deng but there is no doubt that President Trump aides should remember “It doesn’t matter whether a cat is white or black, as long as it catches mice.”
During the presidential campaign Candidate Donald J. Trump stunned many when he either redefined “conservatism” to be what he thought. Remember “I am for free trade but I also want fair trade” that so shocked the conservative priesthood? Candidate Trump especially shocked, when denounced because he was not a “conservative, and responded with “who cares?”
That’s what so many who lament the rise of Kushner and the slump of Steve Bannon don’t get. After the failure of ObamaCare repeal because of the Freedom Caucus, President Trump did his usual “Art of the Deal-ing” moves. Trump immediately declared he was through with ObamaCare repeal, denounced the Freedom Caucus, and announced he would triangulate with Democrats to pass legislation. This shocked the pearl clutchers.
To slap awake the Freedom Caucus and wake them to the dangers of not passing ObamaCare repeal soon, President Trump played his trump card – Steve Bannon. If the Freedom Caucus did not cooperate even with a powerful Steve Bannon cajoling them, then either Steve Bannon is useless in dealings with the Freedom Caucus, or the Freedom Caucus is too contrarian to ever get anything done.
President Trump’s argument is “if this cat can’t catch mice, get rid of him. I’ll get rid of the rats another way.” The threat from President Trump is credible, not because of how he MOABed ISIS or Tomahawked Syria (although that does demonstrate the “#DFWM” doctrine) but because of campaign history. Corey Lewandowski was viewed as indispensable, until Paul Manafort became indispensable, until Steve Bannon/KellyAnne Conway became indispensable. Now Jared Kushner is indispensable.
All President Trump was doing was “Art of the Deal-ing”. President Trump knows Obama Dimocrats won’t help him or the American people to see Candidate Trump’s promises fulfilled. But the threat did some awfully good artful dealing. For all the complaints, the fact is that the Freedom Caucus came forth with a bit more pragmatism and now ObamaCare repeal is once again on the table and soon to be voted on.
Which brings us to Deng Xiaoping again. Something conservative NeverTrumpers should keep in mind. Let’s invert a Dengism to see what President Trump would like to do: “a capitalist train coming with a delay is better than the socialist one that comes on time“. That’s contrary to the postulate of the efficient cat. But it is a warning that the TrumpTrain will roll in the direction of Candidate Trump’s campaign as long as it rolls but if you try to stop it for reasons of ideological purity, then watch out, because the cat in the dark will come back. In other words what matters to President Trump is to get the job done, hopefully in the right way, but whichever way, the job will get done. The job, is Make America Great Again.
Some don’t understand that for President Trump the job is to Make America Great Again, not make ideology or particular leaders, or something or other great again. The threats of scandal thuggery coming from people like Mike Cernovich who are infatuated with themselves, are going nowhere. President Trump does not faint. The well intended warnings about false friends from Kurt Schlichter are best directed at those that think they can use President Trump as their toy.
Schlichter makes some good points about how close President Trump is to total victory and winning, winning, winning. But President Trump is the one who performed the miracle of election and he deserves better than faint praise.
President Trump knows what he is doing. He is at the center of the vortex. We recall when Vladimir Putin was going to be his best friend. Then Putin thought he was king of the hill. So Trump had to MOAB drop the Trump doctrine on Putin’s head.
The same forces aligned against Candidate Trump are still spreading the “chaos” “sell-out” “not a real conservative” narratives to undermine President Trump. But President Trump continues to strike like a TrumpNado for his goal of Make America Great Again.
President Trump is at the center of the vortex and in calm control. Where Big Media and NeverTrumpers see “chaos” President Trump sees the vortex of information flows. President Trump understands the vortex he is in. President Trump at the center of the vortex knows how to use what orbits around him to move in the direction he selects.
America’s enemies, foreign and domestic still don’t see the vortex, the TrumpNado as an intelligent force, moving deliberately to strike.
This is the story of three missiles. One missile is surrounded by 58 other Tomahawk missiles that struck at Syria. Another missile is the heat seeking missile Obama Dimocrats fired at President Trump. This second missile has gone rogue, changed target, and instead of chasing President Trump is now fixed upon Barack Obama’s leading-from-his-behind ass and about to penetrate that well used tunnel.
The third missile? Gorsuch. Neil Gorsuch. Associate Justice to the Supreme Court Neil Gorsuch. That’s the missile with the biggest payload. This multiple warhead missile will keep destroying its targets for twenty, thirty, or forty years.
As we do, President Donald J. Trump expects to appoint more missiles to the high court. As we do, President Donald J. Trump believes there will be four more:
President Trump believes that he will have the opportunity to pack the Supreme Court with five judges, making him only the seventh president to appoint a majority and potentially cementing his legacy and that of the conservative court well past 2055.
Today the Scalia replacement. Probably in June the Anthony Kennedy replacement. The relatively young Clarence Thomas at 71 will resign too and President Trump will appoint a much younger version.
We suspect Stephen Breyer will recognize the ceaseless 5-4 victories will not validate his continued presence away from retirement. After that, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, will succumb to a life away from the court too.
At today’s ceremony at the White House, President Trump slathered Justice Anthony Kennedy with so much praise it reminded us of that line from The Women. As chimes play in “Black’s Fifth Avenue” department store one woman asks “What’s that?” The other woman responds “The bums rush in melody dear.”
Do you hear those chimes sing Justice Anthony Kennedy?
President Donald J. Trump is ready for the Kennedy retirement. Politico has the details:
After Donald Trump wrapped up his first speech to Congress and worked his way through the crowd, he lingered on his handshake with Anthony Kennedy, the 80-year-old Supreme Court justice.
The boom mics picked up their seemingly private conversation.
“Say hello to your boy,” Trump said, “Special guy.” “Your kids have been very nice to him,” Kennedy replied. “Well,” Trump said, “they love him, and they love him in New York.”
While the White House is focused this week on shepherding Trump’s first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, through the Senate confirmation process, the president and his team are obsessed with the next possible vacancy. [snip]
One back channel is the fact that Kennedy’s son, Justin, knows Donald Trump Jr. through New York real estate circles. Another is through Kennedy’s other son, Gregory, and Trump’s Silicon Valley adviser Peter Thiel. They went to Stanford Law School together and served as president of the Federalist Society in back-to-back years, according to school records. More recently, Kennedy’s firm, Disruptive Technology Advisers, has worked with Thiel’s company Palantir Technologies.
In fact, during the early months of the Trump administration, Gregory Kennedy has worked at NASA as a senior financial adviser as part of the so-called “beachhead” team. Both Kennedy boys were spotted at the White House last month for the administration’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration (Justice Kennedy is Irish Catholic). In February, Ivanka Trump attended oral arguments of the Supreme Court with her daughter. She was a guest of Justice Kennedy. [snip]
Those close to Trump’s judicial-selection process stress that they’re not pressuring Kennedy to hang up his robe, only seeking to put him at ease.
Um, “only seeking to put him at ease” is the bum’s rush in melody dear. Those lines of communication from the Trump family and allies should have Chuck Stumbler and his Obama Dimocrats worried sick.
That list of of potential Supreme Court appointments? That’s also a list of potential President Trump appointments to the Appellate Circuit. Many of those soon to be announced appointments are undergoing F.B.I. background checks. Neil Gorsuch is not the sole move on the judicial chessboard by President Trump. And, after Neil Gorsuch, it all becomes easier for President Trump which is why we understood the Obama Dimocrats would filibuster – even though that was a suicide move.
The exercise of the “nuclear option” returns Senate procedures to what they were 15 years ago. The filibuster was simply not employed for partisan purposes against a nominee who had majority support before Harry Reid started filibustering George W. Bush’s lower-court nominees in 2003. (Infamously, the Senate denied Miguel Estrada an up-or-down vote seven times to prevent Bush from later having the opportunity to elevate the first Hispanic justice.) Reid used the “nuclear option” to eliminate that sort of filibuster a decade later, so perhaps this week’s action should be called “thermonuclear.” [snip]
The next nominee. By filibustering the milquetoast Gorsuch despite the high probability and repeatedly expressed intention of the Republicans to go nuclear, the Democrats have destroyed any leverage they had over the next nominee. Should there be another vacancy under President Trump while the GOP controls the Senate, there will be zero incentive for the President to moderate his choice. It’s not at all clear that Republican senators such as Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and other “institutionalists” would’ve gone along with a “nuclear option” to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a nominee more controversial than Gorsuch. But now they won’t face that dilemma.
Whoever said you can’t win by picking unwinnable battles never said it to Chuck Schumer. Democrats opted to fight the good fight, which tends to undermine future attempts to fight the winning fight. This represents a role-reversal of sorts for Democrats and Republicans. Until recently, conservative legislators played Charlie Brown kicking the football to the role of Lucy pulling it away played by Republican presidents, whose stealth nominees invariably revealed themselves as liberals once on the court.
Democrats nominated just eight of the last 25 justices to the Supreme Court. But because Republican presidents nominated the likes of Earl Warren, William Brennan, Harry Blackmun, John Paul Stevens, and David Souter, liberal majorities ruled the Supreme Court throughout the lifetimes of just about everybody reading this. The phenomenon, captured in the title of Patrick Buchanan’s 1975 book Conservative Votes, Liberal Victories, effectively meant a veto on conservative laws, particularly ones passed at the state level. Jurists nominated by Republicans authored the decisions in Roe v. Wade, Kelo v. New London, National Federation of Independent Businesses v. Sebelius, and so many lesser-known cases whose decisions usurped the rights of states and individuals.
John Stuart Mill didn’t call conservatives “the stupid party” for nothing. But even slow people figure it out, albeit, as their name suggests, more slowly, and conservatives blocked George W. Bush’s suspected stealth pick Harriet Miers and stood firmly in blocking a vote on Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland. [snip]
The payoff for McConnell’s gambit on Garland appears especially generous given the widespread declarations that replacing Antonin Scalia with a consistent liberal vote represented a historic sea change. “The Supreme Court’s Conservative Run Is Over” (Politico), “The Conservative Era of the Supreme Court Is Over” (Los Angeles Times), and “After 45 Years of Conservative Rulings, Here’s What a Liberal Supreme Court Would Do” (Washington Post) read a few of the headlines. What a difference a year makes!
The confirmation of Neil Gorsuch via the destruction of the filibuster is a major immediate and long term victory for President Trump. “Democrats nominated just eight of the last 25 justices to the Supreme Court.” But because of obstruction, their nominees were not ideologically committed and soon moved to the left. From now on that won’t happen. And if President Trump appoints 5 young Justices to the high court, the likelihood that Obama Dimocrats will appoint even a single Supreme Court Justice in the next 25 years is de minimus. Thank Barack Obama and the Mistake in ’08.
I don’t want to jinx anything, but President Trump may be experiencing the best sequence of events since he became president. Just this week, he received bipartisan support for his military strike in Syria, secured Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Senate confirmation to the Supreme Court, had impressive meetings with both King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi of Egypt, caught a break with the Susan Rice scandal, and it appears he has walked away from a successful encounter with Chinese President Xi Jinping — all without knocking it off the rails with a wayward tweet. And it’s not just me saying that, no less than Council on Foreign Relations President Richard Haass wrote that this was “arguably [the] best of Donald Trump’s still young presidency, from [a] successful strike in Syria to confirmation of his Supreme Court nominee.” [snip]
McConnell was correct in saying, “Certainly, this is an important day in the history of the Senate and in the Supreme Court.” And if Gorsuch’s confirmation is the only legacy Trump walks away from office with, it will be a great one.
In politics, just like in golf, luck counts. The fact that Trump launched an attack against Syria while his Chinese counterpart was present and able to witness the aftermath in the media was a powerful stroke of good luck for the White House. In case Xi needed any reminding of just how serious Trump may be about taking action in North Korea, the Syria attack couldn’t have been a better example or come at a better time. By all accounts, expectations for their meeting were low. But reports indicate that Trump and Xi had substantive, mostly positive conversations, perhaps leaving the Chinese president with a lot to think about. [snip]
But Trump’s luck didn’t end there. He caught another break with the Rice scandal being revealed when it was. The story has legs, and it’s become a counterweight to the media’s appetite for a Trump-Russia connection. The unmasking fiasco is distracting from the circus show that is the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation, but it won’t peak until Rice testifies under oath. And at that point, who knows which direction the investigation will take? For now, the intensity of the media’s search for a silver bullet in the faux Trump-Russia connection has subsided.
Um, it wasn’t “luck”. President Trump knows who did what to whom on the Rice story. What is happening now is a theatrical lifting of the curtain and a spot light hitting the culprits. President Trump made his own “luck” on Susan Rice.
President Trump also prepared for “luck” on the meeting with President Xi by hiring some tough hombres who have studied China trade policies for a long time. President Trump also sent top emissaries such as Secretary of State Tillerson to South Korea in previous weeks to pave the way for action on North Korea. As President Xi had his entrée served, President Trump knew what was about to happen in Syria. President Trump knew that the main course at dinner was a lesson to President Xi on what to do about North Korea.
North Korea itself was on the menu.
Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, and Obama Dimocrats, are about to get a fork stuck in them too.
We now have a “Trump Doctrine”. The “Trump Doctrine” has a flag.
The “Trump Doctrine” is 21st century Teddy Roosevelt. It is a doctrine fully compatible with “America First”.
Contrary to the misinformation from some websites and Big Media outlets, President Trump’s latest after dinner activities – as noted in an update to our previous article, is not President Trump fallen prey to the “swamp” or a born again neo-con. Some even dare suggest that President Trump has abandoned his previously stated admonishments against America “nation building” foreign nations or abandoning his pledge to be the President of the United States, not the world. That is doltish and stupid analysis.
President Trump wants his focus to remain “jobs, jobs, jobs”. But this does not mean that when challenged by jackals across the sea (or domestically for that matter) President Trump will take blows upside the head without a forceful response. This lion will not just roar, this lion will bite.
‘Decisive’ Trump uses missile strikes to show Syria and the world there’s a new sheriff in town
For Donald Trump the decision to launch cruise missiles at a Syrian regime air base was a carpe diem moment. One that allowed him to seize on immediate opportunities.
First of all, it broke with Barack Obama’s policy towards Damascus, re-establishing the “red line” his predecessor had allowed the Assad regime to cross. [snip]
Faced with a similar situation, Mr Trump used the crises to prove to Syria, America and the world that there is a new sheriff in town.
And it could not have come at a more opportune moment.
Mr Trump was today holding a high stakes summit with Xi Jinping, the Chinese president. At the top of the agenda was North Korea’s growing nuclear ambitions, with Mr Trump wanting to push a hesitant Beijing into punishing Pyongyang. [snip]
“With this Trump put the Assad regime on notice, and sent warnings to the Putin, Jinping and Kim Jong-Un regimes too,” Gen Allen added. [snip]
In choosing to strike only this target, Mr Trump sent a clear message that this was a punitive response to the chemical attack; and not an effort to remove Assad. [snip]
Qusai Zakaria is a Syrian opposition activist who survived the chemical weapons attack in Moadamiya, Damascus in 2013. I was speaking to him by phone when he found out that the US had launched the strikes.
“Oh my dear God. Oh my God. Thank you so much!” he said, over and over, overwhelmed and overjoyed. “I am going to name my son Donald, if I have one. This man is a hero. He has balls.“
It was a world-wide warning to enemies foreign and domestic not to tread on Trump. As the Telegraph further notes, we are not the only ones that understand that this was a test of the new Trump administration by jackals:
Mr Zakarya said he believed that the chemical attack in Idlib had been part of a new regime push on the province that has become one of the last remaining rebel bastions in Syria.
He said in the days leading up to the attack, the regime had dropped some chlorine gas bombs in the area. “They were testing the waters,” he said.
“These were small attacks but they wanted to see how the Trump administration reacted.”
When Rex Tillerson, the secretary of state, said last week that the Syrian people should be left to decide whether to keep Assad, Mr Zakaria said, the regime took that to mean that the US didn’t care. [snip]
After years of inaction, and perceived American disinterest in the carnage that has seen more than 400,000 people killed in Syria, these strikes will change that, Mr Zakarya believed.
“This is will give Syrian people hope. It’s all about hope,” he said. It’s a new era that shows that America will actually do something. It shows there are real red lines in Syria.”
President Trump will not be gulled into a Syrian swamp. President Trump drains swamps.
Trump’s Syria Strike Sends Not-So-Subtle Warning to U.S. Rivals
President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Syria sent a powerful message around the world — one that could be read very differently in Moscow, Pyongyang and Beijing.
For Russia, it may finally put to rest expectations from the 2016 campaign that Trump will pursue closer ties with President Vladimir Putin, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
For North Korea, it was a warning the U.S. is willing to act unilaterally.
And for China, whose leader Xi Jinping was dining with Trump right before the missiles took flight, the attack was a potent sign of the new American president’s unpredictability.
Notice how Bloomberg News shifts their earlier narrative to one that somehow it is a failure for President Trump that he will now not be able to “pursue closer ties with President Vladimir Putin”. It’s a shift in the Big Media narrative that we applauded Ann Althouse for noticing. John Hinderaker at Powerline notices the very same narrative shift by Big Media:
THE NEW YORK TIMES WORRIES ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH RUSSIA
That was then: Donald Trump is a tool of Russia, our mortal enemy. (As of when? Some time after 2012, when the 1980s wanted their foreign policy back.) Trump had business dealings in Russia, has spoken favorably of Vladimir Putin, the Russian regime wanted him elected president, his policies are pro-Russia, his aides probably colluded with Russian spies to steal the election by breaking into Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s email account (or something).
Trump’s recent blistering attacks against Hillary proved how amusing this “plant” theory is. But any tool will be used to bring down Trump’s challenge.
Such is the desperation among certain GOP candidates that they want to believe that Trump is a plant.
Eventually, Trump’s pounding of Hillary in debates and in his massive rallies convinced many Americans, but not the lurid NeverTrump loons, that Donald J. Trump wanted to become President and that he was not running to somehow help Hillary. The NeverTrump dolts, with their constant declarations that Trump was a sure loser in November 2016, never let go of their “Hillary plant” craziness and even unto election night they screamed from their swamps that Trump was a “Hillary plant”.
The “Hillary plant” crackpottery promulgated by the NeverTrump GOP establishment and assorted idiotic GOP websites planted an idea in the left wing hemisphere of the political world.
The left wing loons and DailyKooks grafted a new entity onto the “plant” theory. In their minds Donald J. Trump, President-elect Donald J. Trump, then President Donald J. Trump was – ta da – a “Putin plant”.
As we wrote in our previous article, the “Putin plant” theory has taken a lot of blows lately. Leftists Matt Taibbi in Rolling Stone and Noam Chomsky have both mocked the “Putin plant” articles regularly harvested in left wing websites and Big Media outlets.
But the biggest explosive devices to demolish the “Putin plant” theory are the ones launched by President Trump against Syria/Russia while he dined with the Chinese President.
Yup, the Trump is a “Putin plant” theory has gone up in smoke on a Syrian airfield. Big Media will now try to sell the narrative that President Trump threatens war with Putin.
Big Media and doltish websites were wrong when they declared Trump to be a “Putin plant”. Big Media and the running dogs of the left are equally wrong when they sell the notion that President Trump risks war with Russia. As we wrote previously, the recent Muslim terrorist attack on Russia has awakened Russia to the Muslim threat within their own borders. Vladimir Putin might be unhappy that President Trump has exposed the soft underbelly of Russia in Syria. But Vladimir Putin understands that he has bigger fish to fry when Muslim terrorist bombs are going off in his homeland.
Of course, no logic will persuade the DailyKook left that President Trump is anything but a faithful or faithless “Putin plant”. Because of this, the totalitarian left now rejoices that at last they have President Trump right were they want him and that once again – and this time it is for real, “it’s over for Trump”.
For the left, President Trump is about to go down like a harlot at an all night road house. Yes, from “Hillary plant” to “Putin plant” to “Putin pictures” President Trump is about to be framed by naked pictures.
The “logic” of these poxed heads is that now that President Trump has Tomahawked Putin, Putin will release the naked Trump pictures. That’s right. President Putin who the left claims placed President Trump in the White House, only to be betrayed by President Trump as he chowed down with President Xi, will now take his revenge on President Trump and release all the blackmail materials and naked pictures. We can’t wait. We want to see those non-existent pictures.
The naked Trump pictures will show President Trump with two massive brass balls. President Trump’s enemies, foreign and domestic, will be impressed, and jealous.
Update II: Lots of good analysis produced on the Susan Rice story. There’s this one at NeverTrump site NRO by the smart Andrew McCarthy who understands Trump was Watergated. McCarthy states that Rice unmasked names not because she did not know who the masked names were, nor to “investigate” because the White House does not investigate – F.B.I. C.I.A. N.S.A. investigate, but rather to unmask specific names to leakers down the line who would not know the identities of the masked names.
Likewise, NeverTrump lunatic headquarters Red State exposes CNN refusal to take the Susan Rice/Barack Obama Watergating of Trump seriously because their lead reporter (Jim Sciutto) is an old crony employee of both Obama during the Susan Rice era and her corrupt Big Media husband who is president of ABC News.
Fresh evidence the Russia ‘scandal’ is a Team Obama operation
The Russia Big Media distraction is produced, directed, and acted by Barack Obama thugs. That’s why Barack Obama ran away to hide in French Polynesia for a month in mid-March. Obama doesn’t want to answer questions now that he is caught like a rat. He knew it was coming once Trump tweeted on March 4. It’s not just to get away from the ogre Michelle.
The lesson: don’t mess with President Trump. PDT got it right. Don’t play chess with the master. Don’t.
Update: Big Media will not fry Rice. Big Media thus far has ignored the Susan Rice abuse of power story because it directly implicates Big Media. Don’t forget Susan Rice is married to Ian Cameron, the executive producer of ABC News. Rice’s deputy was Ben Rhodes. Ben Rhodes is the brother of CBS News President David Rhodes.
Big Media is the enemy!
Chess players understand what President Trump is up to – he’s castling. The dullest amateur military historian can see what the Obama Dims are up to too.
This first week of April finds President Trump making large moves on the chess board. There’s a big meeting with massive ramifications, which we have been writing about for a long time, regarding Egypt. There is the massive move to confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. On North Korea and war, we also see a massive move in a meeting this week with the President of China. There’s the Susan Rice revelation today too. It’s all big moves.
On the Obama Dimocrat side, military historians will recognize the strategy. It’s a civil war reenactment of Pickett’s Charge.
Because it is so simply stupid as strategy, let’s start with Obama Dimocrats. Their strategy against President Trump is exactly like the ill-fated, obviously stupid, Pickett’s Charge:
Pickett’s Charge was the culmination of the Battle of Gettysburg. Taking place on July 3, 1863, the third and final day of battle, it involved an infantry assault of approximately 15,000 Confederate soldiers against Union Major General George Meade’s troops’ position along Cemetery Ridge, manned by some 6,500 Federals. The assault would take the nine brigades of Confederate soldiers over three-quarter mile of open ground susceptible to cannon fire the entire time. The ill-fated assault resulted in over 6,000 Confederate casualties and marked the end of the battle of Gettysburg as well as Lee’s last invasion of the north.
That exactly describes what Obama Dimocrats are up to on the Gorsuch Supreme Court fight. They are going to CHARGE!!!! against President Trump in “open ground susceptible to cannon fire the entire time” for no discernible victory scenario. Already the Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the Gorsuch nomination 11-9 on a purely partisan vote. The fight now moves to the full Senate.
The result as we have repeatedly written is that Obama Dimocrats will lose their Pickett’s filibuster against Gorsuch and every Supreme Court fight thereafter. This will lead to President Trump given a completely free strategic hand for his next Supreme Court picks.
Why are Obama Dimocrats charging across a vast open field, without political cover, constantly under fire, with no hope of victory, with only immediate and long term defeat possible? Because the left has gone mad, entirely hopelessly crazy. Anyone who read the first of the series of L.A. Times editorials this weekend sees the crazy.
The L.A. Times calls President Trump an “unprepared and unsuited” doofus who can’t get anything done while at the same time in full panic attack about all the “damage” President Trump has already done. Both of these allegations cannot be simultaneously correct. The L.A. Times is deranged as can be seen by it’s scenario about what can be done to politically assassinate President Trump:
Where will this end? Will Trump moderate his crazier campaign positions as time passes? Or will he provoke confrontation with Iran, North Korea or China, or disobey a judge’s order or order a soldier to violate the Constitution? Or, alternately, will the system itself — the Constitution, the courts, the permanent bureaucracy, the Congress, the Democrats, the marchers in the streets — protect us from him as he alienates more and more allies at home and abroad, steps on his own message and creates chaos at the expense of his ability to accomplish his goals?
That deranged paragraph is actually a good bit of counter analysis. It actually explains a great deal of what the left is up to. This leftist blueprint sees that President Trump will not let the problems of Iran and North Korea fester but will instead take action. The blueprint plan of the totalitarian left is also calling for “the courts” and “the permanent bureaucracy” along with Dimocrats in Congress and kooks in the streets to attack President Trump in any and every way possible.
Which brings us to President Donald J. Trump and what he is up to.
President Trump is playing political chess. As in the board game of kings, first come the opening moves. In the opening moves chess pieces are deployed tactically to achieve strategic aims. Some pawns are sacrificed for the greater good. Then when all the opening moves are exhausted, the King castles.
Top Obama Adviser Sought Names of Trump Associates in Intel
White House lawyers last month learned that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities of U.S. persons in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter. [snip]
The National Security Council’s senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, was conducting the review, according to two U.S. officials who spoke with Bloomberg View on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. In February Cohen-Watnick discovered Rice’s multiple requests to unmask U.S. persons in intelligence reports that related to Trump transition activities. He brought this to the attention of the White House General Counsel’s office, who reviewed more of Rice’s requests and instructed him to end his own research into the unmasking policy.
The intelligence reports were summaries of monitored conversations — primarily between foreign officials discussing the Trump transition, but also in some cases direct contact between members of the Trump team and monitored foreign officials. One U.S. official familiar with the reports said they contained valuable political information on the Trump transition such as whom the Trump team was meeting, the views of Trump associates on foreign policy matters and plans for the incoming administration.
This leak is a defensive and offensive chess move. It comes as the Supreme Court fight heats up and should tangentially aid the case being made for a Gorsuch elevation to the court by undermining the Obama Dimocrats. This report not only defensively vindicates President Trump’s assertion that he was being surveilled, it also exposes Susan Rice and the Obama thugs as the snoops and leakers who sought to politically damage President Trump, in an offense move.
This castling report mocks Susan Rice’s “I know nothing about this” assertions on PBS in March. Back then Susan Rice also asserted “I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that account today.” Susan Rice might have been surprised that Chairman Nunes told the truth for all to hear. Susan Rice and all Americans now can see that Chairman Nunes handled himself very well. Contrary to what Big Media reports, Chairman Nunes “strange behavior” was not strange at all:
It emerged last week that he traveled to the White House last month, the night before he made an explosive allegation about Trump transition officials caught up in incidental surveillance. At the time he said he needed to go to the White House because the reports were only on a database for the executive branch. It now appears that he needed to view computer systems within the National Security Council that would include the logs of Rice’s requests to unmask U.S. persons.
So all that talk about disarray and wild charges from President Trump are now proven to be that the “wild” charges are accurate and the “disarray” a tactic to expose culprits.
It’s the same call when it comes to the “wild” “disarray” on healthcare. It’s President Trump playing normal, regular, political chess, albeit very smartly. President Trump knows exactly what he is doing when he attacks even those from his own political party:
GOP leaders, remember Trump ran against your pieties … and won [snip]
President Trump acts decisively, reflecting his entrepreneurially background, and expects similar alacrity from Congress. The American people entrusted the GOP with a level of power not seen in nearly a century and they expect results. This is especially true of the party’s most loyal supporters who are tired of excuses from their elected representatives. That sense of frustration, even betrayal, set the stage for the accession to power of Donald Trump.
Remember that Republican voters categorically rejected the party’s dream team during the primary in favor of an outsider who happily overturned many conservative pieties. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Donald Trump ran against the congressional leadership of his own party and won.
For those confused about President Trump unfairly attacking the Freedom Caucus for righteously opposing the dreadful ObamaCare repeal/replace bill be confused no longer. Trump is castling here too. President Trump has two trains running and he can jump back and forth at any time of his own choosing. President Trump is a smart chess player playing chess on both trains. That’s why President Trump will attack NeverTrumpers like Amash of the Freedom Caucus and threaten primary challenges while also sweet-talking and golfing with Senator Rand Paul who is an ally of the Freedom Caucus.
That’s all domestic policy chess moves. The stunning stuff in on foreign policy.
President Trump today met with President Al-Sisi of Egypt. Barack Obama trashed Al-Sisi and wanted him removed. President Trump plays chess with Al-Sisi.
Since January 1, 2015 it was obvious to us that President Al-Sisi is the solution to the problems of the middle east. It started with that excellent New Year’s Day speech. Al-Sisi understands that Muslims have to stop Muslim terrorism. By March of 2015, it was even clearer that Al-Sisi should be a strong American partner alongside Israel.
In March of 2015 we wrote about Al-Sisi yet again. It was election eve in Israel. Obama was attacking Netanyahu. What did Al-Sisi do at this crucial moment in history as Netanyahu faced potential defeat and Barack Obama used State Department funds to attack Netanyahu?
Al-Sisi declared he spoke with Netanyahu “a lot” thereby providing a great deal of political cover for the embattled Israeli Prime Minister at a pivotal moment. Al-Sisi declared Barack Obama had “turned his back on Egypt”. Al-Sisi asked for American help and a partnership. Barack Obama trashed Al-Sisi and would not even meet nor talk with him. Barack Obama imposed military and economic sanctions against Egypt. Al-Sisi denounced the very idea of Iran having nuclear weapons. Al-Sisi defended Israeli interests and promoted regional stability. In short, Al-Sisi proved he was a friend of the West and the United States and therefore Barack Obama attacked Al-Sisi.
We have always thought that peace in the middle east will require a well-funded (by Saudi billions a year) Egyptian military allied with America to block Iran and Muslim terrorists. We suspect that President Trump shares our views. That’s why today, President Trump met with President Al-Sisi and on Wednesday for the second time hosts Jordanian King Abdullah II. Later in the month President Trump will meet with Mahmoud Abbas.
These meetings are a warning to not only the “Palestinian” leadership but also to Iran. Watch out fellas! It’s President Donald J. Trump you are dealing with, not weakling Barack Hussein Obama. Trump is about to castle on your azz.
We recently discussed the likelihood of all out war against North Korea or at the very least a powerful attack. We suspect the meeting this week with the Chinese President is President Trump castling before his attack on the North Korean dictatorship which threatens the United States.
Speaking after talks at the defence ministry with his South Korean counterpart Han Min-koo, Mr Mattis told reporters that “any attack on the United States, or our allies, will be defeated, and any use of nuclear weapons would be met with a response that would be effective and overwhelming“.
North Korea conducted its fifth test of a nuclear device last year, and claims it is capable of carrying out a nuclear attack on the US, though experts are still unconvinced its technology has progressed that far.
It has also said in recent weeks that it has a new intercontinental ballistic missile, capable of reaching the US mainland, which it is prepared to test launch at any time.
The latest North Korean missile launch has been submarine based. An intercontinental ballistic missile might not be necessary for North Korea to attack the United States (presumably California or Hawaii – both states Trump lost in his election).
President Trump does not have to lecture the Chinese president on any of this. The Chinese president knows all this and knows that under Obama nothing was done to stop North Korea. But, it is President Trump now. President Donald J. Trump.
President Trump is about to tell the Chinese President to prepare to pay for food and homes for 25 million refugees from North Korea. Just as immigration is the #1 nexus issue for President Trump, China might have an immigration crisis soon too. “Do something to stop North Korea Mr. Chinese President, or else!”
It’s chess, American style. President Trump just castled. Get ready to rumble.
One issue is THE issue for President Donald J. Trump. All roads lead to and from this one issue. Drain the Swamp? This issue. Women’s rights? This issue. The economy? This issue. Crime? This issue. Terrorism? This issue. Obama Dimocrats? This issue. White working class? This issue. Minority voters? This issue. GOP establishment? This issue. Congressional redistricting? This issue. The 2020 Census? This issue. Judicial overreach? This issue. Foreign policy? This issue. Domestic policy? This issue. Big Media? This issue. Rule of law? This issue. Gun control? This issue. Healthcare? This issue. Education? This issue. Federalism? This issue. Supreme Court? This issue. The Wall? This issue. Barack Obama? This issue. Hillary Clinton? This issue. The DNC? This issue. California DailyKooks? This issue. Opioid crisis? This issue. Russia distractions? This issue. 2018 elections? This issue. 2020 presidential election? This issue. And so on and so forth.
Can you deduce what this nexus issue is? We’ll give you a few moments to consider the question as we take a stroll down memory lane. After memory lane, we’ll return with the answer.
* * * * * *
Years ago we were in Venice, Italy. We were invited to a cocktail party. We dressed to the nines to match the swells attending this very exclusive, small, cocktail party. The faboo party was in a massive palazzo. In the lobby of the palazzo there was a gondola for decoration. It was a truly fabulous party.
At the party in the palazzo we all sipped fine wines and giggled as the very tall and big Count Hubert James Marcel Taffin de Givenchy sat down in a chair which was hundreds of years old – and broke it. Hubert was not only a big fashion designer, he was a very big man. After his destruction of the antique chair we spoke with Givenchy about Audrey Hepburn, the clothes he designed for her, and the making of the movie Funny Face which he designed clothes for. We told him an amusing anecdote about Audrey and himself.
Givenchy regaled us with tales of rich people he knew (the Mellons) and described unbelievable wealth. Those are stories best left for another day. The host of the party, to amplify on what massive wealth is as compared to mere wealth, guided us up the stairs to the gargantuan full floor apartment above and there we saw, through a thirty foot brass grill on glass doors, into the apartment of a family that resided there for hundreds of years. The chandeliers in that apartment were town car sized. Gorgeous.
As we returned to the cocktail party we looked out through the windows and there saw the first or second most famous bridge in Venice, which was directly adjacent to the cocktail party.
* * * * * *
So what is that nexus issue for President Trump?
It’s immigration. Immigration – legal, illegal, it’s the nexus issue. It’s also the issue candidate Donald J. Trump highlighted during the primary elections and the general election. Immigration is the nexus issue!
That party in Venice we attended with Givenchy? First, Funny Face, the movie he designed for, takes place in Paris and of course the House of Givenchy is based in Paris. We wonder these days what Givenchy would say to the news that a wall will be built around the Eiffel Tower to protect it from terrorists? The bridge we crossed to get to our cocktail party? The Rialto Bridge.
You can’t fix the American economy without addressing illegal immigration and the effect on wages which harm the white working class and minorities legally here. Can President Trump will minority voters? Yeah, because of the illegal immigration issue, and that does have Big Media worried.
Want to Drain the Swamp? The Swamp wants illegal immigration and higher rates of legal immigration and the swamp will fight back. The economy? You can’t run the economy and Make America Great Again without addressing H1B1 visas, illegal immigration, legal immigration and its effects on wages.
Obama Dimocrats, Hillary, Barack? They will use immigration and illegal immigration to attack President Trump. Crime? How many crimes are committed by illegal immigrants which pour through our still insecure southern border? Terrorism? Go to the Rialto and understand that legal immigration too is a problem on this issue as Muslim terrorists come in foreign and domestic varieties.
After the 2020 elections there will be a census. That census will lead to congressional redistricting. Obama Dimocrats and Barack Obama himself want to defeat Donald Trump so that Obama Dimocrats can import an electorate that will elect them. Defeat President Trump in 2018 or 2020 and the Obama Dimocrats will win on their nexus issue – immigration.
The foreign policy challenges which drive much of the populism sweeping through Europe? Immigration is a lead cause for resistance against President Trump in much of the establishment in Europe and the EU.
The opioid crisis? It often starts with legally prescribed drugs then degenerates into heroin brought in through the southern border from China and domestically grown in the southern hemisphere.
Gun control? The left is against gun ownership except if an illegal immigrant kills someone in a sanctuary city.
Budgets for education? Massive legal and mostly illegal immigration are wreaking school budgets and warping pedagogic philosophy. No longer do American schools celebrate English and teach it. Now the “cultural diversity” arguments have twisted the educational establishment into near anti-English schemes. Want to wear a flag or celebrate American history and culture? The left propagandizes that is xenophobia and race hatred. President Trump stands athwart the educational establishment here too.
All that Russia nonsense? It is a distraction. Don’t be distracted. The Russia nonsense is an attempt to prevent President Trump progress on immigration policies he favors.
The Wall proposed by President Trump? Obviously, illegal immigration. Drugs. Crime. Nexus issue is immigration.
A federal judge in Hawaii on Wednesday extended his previous ruling blocking President Donald Trump’s so-called “travel ban” that would have restricted entry to the United States by refugees and people from some predominantly Muslim countries.
U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson granted a motion by the state to turn his temporary restraining order blocking Trump’s revised executive order into a preliminary injunction. The move extends the ban on enforcement while the case moves forward.
The government also sought to have the judge limit the injunction to just the issue of visas from six predominantly Muslim nations, and not on a 120-day hold on refugees, but the judge declined to do so and that part of Trump’s order remains blocked.
The case will move forward.
The nexus of issues on immigration can best be seen from examination of this news.
This judge from Hawaii is clearly engaged in judicial overreach. This fool and the 9th Circuit seek to overthrow constitutional order.
With this judicial overreach we see the questions of the rule of law come to the fore. We see federalism and the supremacy of the federal government on immigration matters come into question. We see some very interesting possibilities We see the… well, the Supreme Court.
At some point this bit of judicial overreach will reach the Supreme Court. As we predicted, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the Gorsuch nomination on Monday, April 3, and on Friday there will be a full U.S. Senate vote which will create Justice Gorsuch.
With Justice Gorsuch on the Supreme Court the rule of law will be restored. The issue of immigration, legal and illegal, will be settled one way or the other. We believe President Trump and his executive orders will prevail.
Unlike past institutional crises, there’s no bipartisan “gang” stepping up to force a truce between the warring armies led by Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer. Acrimony between the two parties has become so routine that invoking the so-called nuclear option to get Neil Gorsuch confirmed to the Supreme Court is almost a ho-hum affair, assumed to be a done deal.
“The Senate has changed,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who’s fought rules changes in the past. “You can’t do what we used to do, what I did in the past. There’s too much ill will.”
McCaskill warns Democratic donors of pitfalls of blocking Trump nominee for high court
Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri warned Democratic donors that blocking President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee could have dire consequences, according to audio obtained by The Star. [snip]
McCaskill told the fundraiser’s attendees that blocking Gorsuch could result in someone worse being appointed to the court in the future, according to the audio. [snip]
“So they move it to 51 votes and they confirm either Gorsuch or they confirm the one after Gorsuch,” she continued. “They go on the Supreme Court and then, God forbid, Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies, or (Anthony) Kennedy retires or (Stephen) Breyer has a stroke or is no longer able to serve. Then we’re not talking about Scalia for Scalia, which is what Gorsuch is, we’re talking about Scalia for somebody on the court who shares our values. And then all of a sudden the things I fought for with scars on my back to show for it in this state are in jeopardy.”
With Gorsuch on the court Alito and Thomas might have a new ally on apportionment issues for state legislatures. Voter ID laws? Um, Gorsuch might be the final victory in that battle.
The Obama Dimocrat left spent half of 2015 laughing at Donald J. Trump. The Obama Dimocrat left and Big Media laughed throughout most of 2016 at the thought Donald J. Trump thought he could win the election.
Some on the right foolishly and mistakenly believe the madness will break during the Supreme Court confirmation fight for soon-to-be Justice Gorsuch. Some on the right, not understanding Obama Dimocrats, foolishly don’t understand the political battle as they concoct wild theories about why the filibuster won’t be deployed against soon-to-be Justice Gorsuch. These are dangerous delusions. The left is not even near full madness.
Conservative Treehouse dreamed up some silly scenario, so bizarre that you can read and reread it and it still can’t be understood, not even by the initial commentors, about why Neil Gorsuch was a shoe-in and no filibuster would be deployed by Chuck Schumer. The “rationale” for such a bizarre conclusion was too silly to even explain in any reality-based way. The Conservative Treehouse “analysis”: “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will not filibuster the nomination. Relax, it’s 100%. 100%. Done.”
That Treehouse analysis is nutty as a squirrel’s sac. It did not get any better after Chuck Schumer confirmed that indeed, as we predicted, there will be a filibuster. After delusional theory #1 exploded, the Treehouse churned up some more nutty butter to spread which made as little sense as their first flub. It was something about Russians and… well… this latest theory was again too silly to give serious consideration to.
Let’s explain political reality, as seen by Obama Dimocrats, to Conservative Treehouse so they can begin to add some bit of obvious to the discussion.
First, Conservative Treehouse and the not-too-bright right, think that it is the next Supreme Court confirmation battle or the one after that (when presumably a left wing Justice leaves the high court) that matters and that Gorsuch’s seat on the high court is somewhat of an afterthought. This is supremely stupid.
In all caps: GORSUCH IS THE BATTLE THAT MUST BE WON! It is not the next confirmation, nor the one after that that matters. Chuck Schumer understands that Neil Gorsuch must be defeated because Gorsuch’s confirmation will be a devastating blow to the left from which the left will not recover for generations. Neil Gorsuch returns the court to a conservative majority. That majority might not be the perfect conservative majority of the ideologically right wing – but Neil Gorsuch will return a 5-4 majority to the Supreme Court. THAT IS THE BATTLE. THAT IS EVERYTHING.
After the GOP ObamaCare repeal and replace defeat, Chuck Schumer knows that one more big defeat for President Trump and the Republicans will mean the GOP is neutered and the 2018 elections become a real contest with likely Obama Dimocrat victories unimaginable until now. The consequences of a Neil Gorsuch defeat means that President Trump would have to name a new nominee to the Supreme Court who would have to be a centrist (and still not be confirmed) and more time would be burned up and less and less could be accomplished by President Trump.
Chuck Schumer is doing what any brilliant General knows to do when your forces are weak and outmatched by the opposition: stall for time. In time, the stronger forces grow weaker and the weaker forces grow stronger.
Now, some on the not-too-bright-right will respond that “no, the big battle will be the one to replace the dead Justice Ginsberg.” Um, stupid. If Justice Ginsberg dies (or resigns) while Trump is president, President Trump does not really have to do anything. The Supreme Court would go from a 5-4 conservative majority to a 5-3 conservative majority on the court via subtraction. A one vote majority would become a two vote majority automatically. Of course, President Trump would make a nomination and then the majority would become a 6-3 majority. But 5-3 or 6-3 the left can add single digits. The Obama Dimocrats like Chuck Schumer understand all this. The left knows Neil Gorsuch is THE battle even if the right is not too bright. Conservative Treehouse and the not-too-bright-right hallucinated themselves into a dream that Gorsuch is not the most important battle for the left.
In addition, the left will frequently circumvent the political process by going to the courts to gain in the judicial arena what they lost in the political arena. That’s why Barack Obama and Harry Reid destroyed the judicial filibuster to get Obama nominees to the district and appellate courts confirmed.
For the left, Gorsuch is everything. For the left all the gains at the district and appellate level will be eliminated if the high court regains a conservative majority. The left is correct, the right is wrong, in this analysis.
Chuck Schumer also understands that 2018 will be a very difficult election for Obama Dimocrats because so many Dimocrats are running and many of those will fight for reelection in red states that Donald J. Trump won with wide margins; while few Republicans are up for reelection at all and most of those are in red states. Chuck Schumer also understands that the dimwits on the left, unlike the right, rarely vote in off year elections.
Chuck Schumer and the left further understand that their hope in 2018 and 2020 is to run a “base” election. To run a “base” election the base has to be happy. The DailyKooks left base will not be happy if Schumer does not filibuster Gorsuch.
Once again, for the left the Gorsuch confirmation battle is the battle of all battles. They know there is no “next”.
The left also understands the weakness on the right. There are several GOP senators that are in many ways closer to the left than they are to the right. Senators Murkowski, Collins, Graham, and McCain, are always ready to join a “gang” of eight or four to block victory and grasp defeat. For these four senators what matters is the traditions of the senate and collegiality but most of all flattery from Big Media. They also don’t want to see the filibuster destroyed because that would make the senate too much like the low rent House.
Some senators also know that “what goes around comes around”. Get rid of the minority friendly judicial filibuster now, and when the majority becomes the minority they will have lost a last resort weapon.
Because the GOP only has 52 votes out of 100 in the senate Senators Murkowski, Collins, Graham, and McCain can sorta filibuster the death of the filibuster. Yes, these four can kill the kill-the-filibuster crew. That the confirmation filibuster will be killed by the Obama Dimocrats the moment they seize power and it becomes advantageous to do so does not mean much to these four.
Eliminating the filibuster would break Senate precedent and make it impossible for Democrats to hold the nominee to a 60-vote threshold, allowing Republicans to approve Gorsuch with a simple majority.
Graham told conservative radio show host Mike Gallagher that he would vote for the nuclear option if necessary.
“Whatever it takes to get him on the court, I will do,” Graham said, after being asked about using the nuclear option.
“If my Democratic colleagues choose to filibuster this guy, then they will be telling me that they don’t accept the election results — 306 electoral votes — that they’re trying to delegitimize President Trump,” Graham continued. “And that’s not right, and we would have to change the rules to have the Supreme Court like everybody else.” [snip]
“I hope that we can get 60 votes and not change 200-plus years of history, but I will do whatever’s necessary, but I’ve been a pretty balanced guy and enough is enough,” Graham said.
In a closely divided Senate (Republicans hold a 52-48 majority), it would only take three Republicans to let Schumer have his way, but comments from several Senate Republicans suggest they’re not going to give in to Democratic demands.
Arizona senator John McCain hinted Thursday afternoon that he’s ready to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch with a simple majority if Senate Democrats take the unprecedented step of filibustering a Supreme Court nominee. Asked what Republicans should do if 41 or more Democrats try to block Gorsuch, McCain told THE WEEKLY STANDARD: “I think we’ll address it when it happens. None of us want to do it, but we’re going to confirm Gorsuch.” [snip]
Arizona’s Jeff Flake told TWS: “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but I think we’ll get him confirmed.”
“There’s no reason for anybody to filibuster,” said Lisa Murkowski, a moderate from Alaska. “Gorsuch is a good guy.”
You can’t take anything for granted with that crew but at least for now they are making the right noises. Not that Chuck Schumer believes them. Chuck Schumer is playing for time and he knows how to play these Big Media compliant senators. Chuck Schumer thinks he will get himself a traitor or two and win the big battle:
Schumer confident Democrats have votes to block Gorsuch
The Senate minority leader is prepared to force Mitch McConnell to try to invoke the ‘nuclear option.’
Chuck Schumer is prepared to push the Senate into a nuclear confrontation over the Supreme Court. [snip]
Dismissing the notion of a deal to confirm Gorsuch floated by some members of his caucus this week, Schumer all but declared that Donald Trump’s nominee will not receive the requisite eight Democratic votes — and that it will be up to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as to whether to try to blow up the filibuster to get Gorsuch through. [snip]
If Schumer stops Gorsuch during a filibuster vote in early April — and the New Yorker was brimming with confidence that he will — it will almost certainly force McConnell’s hand on the so-called nuclear option. Schumer is betting McConnell does not have the votes to do away with the 60-vote requirement for Supreme Court nominees.
“I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that Mitch McConnell changes the rules,” Schumer said. “There are people in his caucus who really don’t want to change the rules, OK?”
This is not about “payback” for Merrick Garland. The wilted Garland confirmation that never was excuse is a way for Obama Dimocrats and Big Media to justify the filibuster to the public. The right wing delusionalists do not get it but the leftists understand that Gorsuch is the big battle:
Liberal activists warn party’s lawmakers: Primaries are coming [snip]
Frustrated by the party’s performance on Capitol Hill and emboldened by the mass protests against President Donald Trump, a coalition of progressive groups say they are open to supporting primary challengers next year against Democratic members of the House and Senate – even if many inside the party believe that intra-party races might ultimately only help the Republican Party gain more power. [snip]
“Every single Democratic incumbent considering aiding and abetting the Trump administration needs to consider their jobs at high risk,” said Charles Chamberlain, executive director of Democracy for America, a grassroots progressive advocacy group based in Vermont. [snip]
“The base is more than restless – it’s furious,” said Ben Wikler, Washington director for MoveOn.org, a longtime and well-known liberal advocacy group. “It’s up to each and every elected Democrat: If they want to be part of the resistance, they’ll have an army by their side.
“And if they don’t, they’ll have to face the biggest grassroots movement that I’ve seen in my life,” he added.
The threats are representative of a rift within the Democratic Party over its midterm election strategy, between its more moderate establishment and an emboldened liberal faction. Many members of the party establishment think its lawmakers, especially those who represent states of districts won by Trump last year, must win over Republican voters by finding times to cooperate with the president.
Adding to the tension is that 10 Senate Democrats are running for re-election next year in states Trump won during last year’s presidential campaign. Five of the states were also won by former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. [snip]
Anything short of an all-out effort from Democrats to stop the judge, including forcing Senate Republicans to lower the existing 60-vote threshold for confirmation of Supreme Court justices, will incite the base, they say.
The not-too-bright right must understand the mentality of the left and not succumb to nuts-falling-from-the-tree theories. For the left, Gorsuch is THE battle. And the left is correct. Gorsuch is THE battle! Gorsuch means 5-4 for generations (or 6-3, or 7-2). For Obama Dimocrats up for reelection in 2018 the crossfire of left and right attacks will be most bloody. Everyway you look at it they lose.
So why is this a “Glory, Glory, Hallelujah” moment? For four reasons.
Reason #1: A Gorsuch confirmation victory on April 3 (when the Judiciary Committee votes) and on April 8 (or before, when the entire U.S. Senate votes) will wipe away the defeat on the ObamaCare battle for the GOP. Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Reason #2: A Gorsuch confirmation victory means more victories as the 5-4 majority will be restored. On President Trump’s immigration policies these will be especially important victories as they will on those ObamaCare cases which will finish off ObamaCare, all thus far stifled by the current 4-4 split on the high court. Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Reason #3: A Gorsuch confirmation victory means that as we have long suggested and advocated, if you are going to get rid of the judicial confirmation filibuster do it as early as possible so that President Trump can effect his policies more easily for eight years. As we wrote previously, Barack Obama dumped the filibuster for the lower court confirmations very late in his term instead of early on when the boob could have done even more damage than he did. The GOP with President Trump should not make the same stupid mistake. If it is to be done, do it quickly and early – a philosophy we share with the Bard. Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
Reason #4: This confirmation will make later confirmations faster, easier. There will be other confirmation battles if the Gorsuch battle goes well and Gorsuch gets on the high court before the late April arguments are heard and voted on. The end of the judicial filibuster means that President Trump will be free to appoint whom he wants without fear of the Obama Dimocrats.
Contrary to what the TreeHouse theorizes about, a Gorsuch victory will make it more likely that the high court majority will be strengthened. That nonsense about Justice Kennedy assumes so much it is laughable. The facts are that once Neil Gorsuch is Justice Gorsuch – due to the end of the filibuster, some of the older conservative Justices will feel free to resign and be replaced with younger versions of themselves that will continue the Trump Legacy for generations.
Forty-nine year old Gorsuch replacing Scalia will be followed by forty-something year old replacements for Thomas and Kennedy (a more consistently conservative version too). On the left our bet is that faced with a younger and stronger 5-4 majority and the futility of resistance, Justice Breyer will call it quits to be followed by Justice Ginsberg.
The left could try to thwart all this via cooperation with President Trump. Schumer could try to work out deals with President Trump and cajole and sweet talk the President into going a bit more center on nominations and policy.
But Schumer and the left won’t cooperate. They will filibuster. They will fight. And President Trump will fight back. That’s why we say, Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!
“I recently confirmed that on numerous occasions, the intelligence community collected information on U.S. individuals involved in the Trump transition,” Nunes told reporters.
“Details about U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports.”
He said that “additional names” of Trump transition officials had been unmasked in the intelligence reports and indicated that Trump’s communications may have been swept up as well. [snip]
“I want to be clear — none of this surveillance was related to Russia or the investigation of Russian activities or of the Trump team,” Nunes said. [snip]
The information was “legally brought to him by sources who thought we should know it,” Nunes said, though he declined to provide further detail. [snip]
Nunes later told reporters at the White House that he believes the details should “bother” the president and his team because some of the collection seemed “inappropriate.” [snip]
Trump said later Wednesday that he felt “somewhat” vindicated by Nunes’s revelation.
As we previously wrote, the scandal is the “unmasking”. Next Tuesday former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates (the one who shirked her duty to defend President Trump’s travel ban in court therefore fired by PDT) will appear at an Intelligence Committee hearing. At some point Comey the Clown will have to return to ‘splain all of this after his assurances that nobody did what was done. So will Barack Obama:
The FBI is not cooperating with the House of Representatives’ investigation into the NSA’s surveillance of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, the chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said today. [snip]
“We don’t actually know yet officially what happened to General Flynn,” Nunes said of how communications from Gen. Flynn’s calls were leaked to the press. “We just know that his name leaked out but we don’t know how it was picked up yet. That was one of the things that we asked for in the March 15th letter, was for the NSA, CIA, and FBI to get us all the unmasking that was done.”
“And I’ll tell you, NSA is being cooperative,” Nunes continued, “but so far the FBI has not told us whether or not they’re going to respond to our March 15th letter, which is now a couple of weeks old.”
Nunes also reported that as of now, he “cannot rule out” President Obama ordering the surveillance.
And contrary to earlier media reports, Nunes clarified that the surveillance was not related to the FBI’s investigation into possible collusion with Russia. This surveillance, he emphasized to reporters, does not “have anything to do with Russia.”
In France a few days ago, the police declared themselves perplexed as to the motives of a killer who shouted something about Allah as he went on with his attempted killings. French police cannot unravel the mystery as to why the Allah shouting killer killed.
FOUR people are dead – including police officer and terrorist – and 20 more injured – after killer mowed down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before killer is shot attacking police in Parliament grounds
The police reports from London describe the wonton, er, wanton killer as “middle-aged and Asian”. While we merely studied anthropology and are not “experts” at determination of racial or ethnic origin we suspect this killer is not “Asian” as we understand the term.
Skin complexion? Not “black” but most assuredly “dark” of skin. Not the usual complexion most people associate as “Asian” in the sense of Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian or Chinese. In fact, what can be seen in photos released thus far by the DailyMail, the killer in question had a beard which began at his sideburns and followed a path to the chin and back up to the other sideburn. It’s not a “Fu Manchu” beard we associate with “Asian”. No, this beard is very similar to the one worn by El Sayyid Nosair.
Take a look for yourself: the Mirror too has a photo of the dead killer. We would say more “middle eastern” than “Asian”. Although the killer was driving a Hyundai 4x4n which is an “Asian” car.
Good thing Britain went Brexit as President Trump suggested. Maybe once they regain control of their borders Britain will be Great again. Trump Vindicated.
Two illegal-alien teenagers who were placed in ninth-grade classes at Montgomery County Schools, Maryland, have been arrested and charged with the brutal rape of a 14-year-old girl, and at least one of the boys had a pending deportation order from ICE.
The boys, identified as Henry Sanchez, 18, of Guatemala and Jose Montano, 17, of El Salvador, approached the young girl in the hallway near the gymnasium inside Rockville High School during school hours about 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Montano asked her for sex.
The girl refused — twice.
So the two boys forced her into the boys bathroom and then into a stall.
Montano pushed her into the corner of the stall and began kissing her neck, despite her repeatedly telling him to stop. He unzipped her top, forcibly removed her clothes and the two proceeded to rape her at the same time, then traded positions and raped her again.
She cried out in pain, the report says, but the assault continued. By the time it was over, they had raped her anally, orally and vaginally, according to the police report. [snip]
“18-year-old criminals set to be deported should not be a freshman in our public schools,” stated a post on the website of Help Save Maryland, an organization that opposes illegal immigration.
Maryland is perhaps the most welcoming state for illegal aliens and refugees in the Eastern United States, with Montgomery County the most welcoming county in the state. Maryland gives in-state tuition rates to illegal-alien college students, and its legislature is considering a bill that would declare Maryland the country’s first sanctuary state. Montgomery County is already a sanctuary county, denying 63 ICE requests to turn over illegal-alien criminals last year, Fox News reported.
These policies helped create a culture that allows a young girl to be raped and sodomized in a bathroom stall by two illegal-alien boys, at least one of whom was ordered to be deported, border hawks told WND.
Thus far we have not heard Hillary Clinton denounce this rapists. Thus far we have not seen hordes of women in pussy hats march on Montgomery County demanding justice for this girl. Thus far we have not heard Chelsea Clinton, about to be awarded a “lifetime achievement” prize from Variety, say anything about the Rockville rape.
Some other bleeding heart liberals however, have been “woke”:
Trump vindicated again. How many times has Trump been vindicated even as Big Media declared such vindications impossible before they emerged as fact?
Tomorrow President Donald J. Trump will face a tough challenge. The House of Representatives votes on an “ObamaCare repeal/replace”.
On April 3 the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the Gorsuch nomination. On or before April 8 the U.S. Senate will vote on the confirmation of Gorsuch to become Justice Gorsuch of the Supreme Court.
Will President Trump be vindicated again and again? Will President Trump get tired of vindication?
Tomorrow, the President Trump potential vindications continue.
In one “Tweet” limited by a 140 character rule, President Trump took note of North Korea’s character and current posture, expressed his righteous indignation that North Korea’s behavior is unchanged from their abysmal behavior of years, and wraps it all up on with a bright red bow declaring that China is playing a game here because “China has done little to help”. The exclamation point after breaking China is a rain of glitter on a brilliant gem of a tweet.
If brevity is the soul of wit surely President Trump’s tweets are the apex of rhetorical power.
President Trump managed in 140 characters to flex his muscles and declare what to others requires mountains of books to express.
We stand together in facing what was once a regional security challenge, but today North Korea threatens not only its regional neighbors, but the United States and other countries. Efforts toward North Korea to achieve peaceful stability over the last two decades have failed to make us safer. The U.S. and our allies have repeatedly reassured North Korea’s leaders that we seek only peace, stability, and economic prosperity for Northeast Asia. As proof of our intent, America has provided $1.3 billion in assistance to North Korea since 1995. In return, North Korea has detonated nuclear weapons, and dramatically increased its launches of ballistic missiles to threaten America and our allies.
The U.S. commitment to our allies is unwavering. In the face of North Korea’s grave and escalating global threat, it is important for me to consult with our friends, and chart a path that secures the peace. Let me be very clear: the policy of strategic patience has ended. We are exploring a new range of diplomatic, security, and economic measures. All options are on the table. North Korea must understand that the only path to a secure, economically-prosperous future is to abandon its development of nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, and other weapons of mass destruction.
We call on other regional powers and all nations to join us in demanding the North Korean Government choose a better path and a different future for its people. The United States is committed to supporting the defense of our allies, and we will continue to develop a comprehensive set of capabilities to counter the growing North Korean ballistic missile threat.
That is why the United States and the Republic of Korea decided to take the defensive measure of deploying THAAD Missile Defense System. While we acknowledge China’s opposition, its economic retaliation against South Korea is inappropriate and troubling. We ask China to refrain from such action. Instead, we urge China to address the threat that makes that necessary, that being the escalating threat from North Korea.
Lockheed Martin said Thursday it has finished a 60-kilowatt laser system for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and is preparing to hand it over to the Army for further testing. In initial tests, the company achieved 58 kilowatts of power but expects its laser to reach its full potential by the time of its delivery in the next few months.
The laser is what the company calls a “combined fiber” laser beam, bringing together individual lasers to form a single, stronger beam. Lockheed has been testing it at an installation in Bothell, Wash., and plans to ship it to an Army installation in Huntsville, Ala., in the next few months.
“We’re really at the dawn of an era of the utility of laser weapons,” said Robert Afzal, senior fellow for laser and sensor systems at Lockheed Martin. The Army’s specialized military vehicles “can now carry something which is small enough and powerful enough for what we believe will be militarily useful.”
Proponents say lasers could be cheaper than traditional munitions systems because they don’t require expensive projectiles and they don’t need to be reloaded. That could make the system useful in taking down airborne adversaries, such as off-the-shelf drones.
The idea of an off-the-shelf drone fleet commanded by a non-state entity presents new challenges for a global military establishment that has focused for centuries on war with other governments. For example, Gen. David Perkins said this week that a U.S. ally had taken down an adversary’s off-the-shelf quad-copter — which can be purchased online for a few hundred dollars — with a multimillion-dollar Patriot missile.
Mark Gunzinger, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, said: “That’s $3 million to shoot down a three-or-four-hundred-dollar drone. . . . What if you could do that with a beam of light that costs a buck?” [snip]
Lasers “hit targets at the speed of light, they cost almost nothing per shot, and they have an almost unlimited number of times they can be used,” said Loren Thompson, chief operating officer of the nonprofit Lexington Institute, which receives funding from defense firms including Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
Terrorist creeps that use improvised explosive devices that cost a few dollars are an economic problem because the United States has to spend millions or at least thousands to counter their cheap improvisations. That might now change. A couple of cheap zaps from a laser makes killing the creeps economically doable. Drone, schmone, future wars are on their way and the U.S. is getting ready.
Hey, we have an idea. Get the gamers from high school and the pajama boys in their basements to zap zap the creeps in a video game that really kills. Talk about Enders Game, huh? Not our Enders Game, the other Enders Game.
The Navy already has a ship with lasers. Now the Army can have a 60-kilowatt laser that can be carried about and repeatedly used for a few dollars more.
Hey, North Korea creeps (and mostly China but Angela Merkel too!). You’re not dealing with Barack Hussein Obama now. It’s Trump! President Donald J. Trump!
Presumably, among the topics will be ObamaCare repeal and replace. President Trump might also have a few choice words for the Obama appointed federal clown in Hawaii who issued a Temporary Restraining Order on the latest executive order travel ban. The order is bad enough but the reasoning based on the Establishment Clause is entirely ridiculous. Note: before the TRO expires there might just be a new Supreme Court Justice because Neil Gorsuch gets a hearing in the Senate on Monday and maybe just maybe he will get a vote soon.
President Trump has been Trumpnado-ing through today. President Trump in Michigan spoke to automobile company workers, unions, and management. President Trump promised to unshackle the automobile industry in this country and restore it to glory. “Buy American and Hire American” said POTUS with Mostest.
POTUS Mostest Trumpest will also be on Tucker Carlson’s show tonight after an early morning of Tweeting about Rachel Maddow’s disaster Tuesday night on TrumpTaxes. Is it 2018 already?
It’s two trains running. Two trains running along two separate tracks and President Trump ready, willing, and able, to jump from Von Ryan’s Express to the TrumpTrain. President Trump is on Von Ryan’s Express on the healthcare debate for now, but it is very easy to see that President Trump has a very good grasp on the truth in this healthcare debate and might soon jump to the TrumpTrain.
Von Ryan’s Express, TrumpTrain??? There are three must understand truths about the current healthcare debate to be put into the context of everlasting truths of politics (everlasting truth such as that the prime directive for senators and congress-critters is to be re-elected).
Healthcare debate truth #1: ObamaCare is so bad it must and will be repealed and what will replace it will be much better than ObamaCare.
Healthcare debate truth #2: The current GOP public plan to replace ObamaCare is stupid and not very bright on policy and electoral grounds but the likelihood it will pass is very great because President Trump knows how to sell and for senators and House members the next election is always around the corner.
Healthcare debate truth #3: Trust President Trump on ObamaCare repeal and replace because this guy is very smart, knows what he is doing, and wants to truly repeal ObamaCare and replace it with something that provides healthcare, not merely inaccessible health insurance.
* * * * * *
Don’t trust President Trump for the reason that you are a cult member of a fan club that will excuse anything he does and will defend anything he does. Trust President Trump because he is smart, has a game plan to Make America Great Again, and will repeal/replace ObamaCare. Flim-flam con man Barack Obama was a two trains type guy too. But for Obama the two trains he hopped on were personal advancement gravy trains. Those always lead to a train wreak.
So what the Hell is President Trump up to?
On Wednesday, President Trump begins his sell pitch at a big rally. Another rally is scheduled and more are likely to come. President Trump will take to the road to sell something that is not particularly good. Yes, it is better than the ObamaCare America is oppressed by. But um, is it great? Um, no.
So what the Hell is President Trump up to?
What is President Trump up to? Well, President Trump on Von Ryan’s Express has to demonstrate he is making a good faith effort to pass the current bill the House leadership under Paul Ryan has written before Trump moves to change it. That bill is a mess on several levels but President Trump has to make a good faith effort to pass it so that he can say “I tried to pass this” just before he jumps to the TrumpTrain.
President Trump knows the mess that is the health insurance plan on Von Ryan’s Express. President Trump knows it is a mess because he is listening to the critics of the plan – critics who supported him during his election bid. Still President Trump, like a good businessman, is going forward with the Ryan express package to see how it plays out. It’s an opening bid.
Recall, how the Von Ryan Express Train tracks. It is a three phase plan. Phase I is to pass the current health insurance bill via the “Reconciliation” process. Using “reconciliation” to overcome the artificial 60 vote majority necessary to pass a bill through the Senate means that supposedly only matters of a strict budgetary nature get to be in the bill.
Phase II, is one we will discuss later.
Phase III, is the mirage that at some point the Obama Dimocrats will agree to provide the 60 vote majority necessary to pass all the really good stuff in health care reform, such as tort reform and the ability for Americans to buy insurance across state lines thereby bringing competition into the reform process.

Before we return to “what the Hell is President Trump up to?” let’s deal in this section of our analysis with the dull policy stuff. Hey, it’s only life and death, not the fun stuff we like in politics. But the policy stuff does matter. If you get bored with policy, just skip this section.
What’s the problem with the Von Ryan Express plan? First and foremost, the author. Paul Ryan. Let’s all agree that Paul Ryan is a male Nancy Pelousy. That’s unfair. Paul Ryan is smart and Paul Ryan is kinda cute unlike Nancy Pelousy. But like Nancy Pelousy, Paul Ryan could not sell lemonade in August heat, shovels in winter pre-snow storm, nor life insurance on board the Titanic in it’s last hours. Indeed the more Paul Ryan talks, the more likely the Paul Ryan train goes off the tracks.
Earlier this week the Congressional Budget Office issued it’s assessment of Ryan’s health insurance scheme. Ryan began to appear on television to laud the CBO report as wonderful. Everyone else in the administration spoke with a degree of intelligence and essentially blasted the CBO report. Paul Ryan? Well, something’s not right with that boy.
Compare and contrast Paul Ryan and Newt Gingrich’s response to the CBO report:
If that’s an example of Paul Ryan “excited” we feel sorry for his wife. Paul Ryan, blue eyes aside, simply is at a par with Nancy Pelousy when it comes to believability. We don’t doubt he knows what he is talking about, but his interest appears to be to demonstrate he knows what he is talking about instead of convincing the public that he is telling the truth. Something is just not right with that boy, the way he talks and talks a little too fast and slippery.
Bottom line is that best message came from Newt. Even Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney made a better pitch than Ryan on the hostile Morning Joe show:
Mulvaney is right: Care is what matters, not coverage. It’s a critique we made of ObamaCare since 2009. ObamaCare fed the health insurance companies money forced from Americans via the coercive force of government but the insurance deductibles were so high many Americans could not access the insurance they paid dearly for.
Avik Roy, of Forbes Magazine, frequently agreed with points we made about ObamaCare. Avik Roy makes the case much better than Paul Ryan for why the CBO report is kinda useless and sorta good news:
Believe It Or Not, CBO’s Score Of House GOP Obamacare Replacement Is Better Than Expected
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that 24 million fewer people will have health insurance by 2026 under the House GOP plan to replace Obamacare. That projection is unsurprising, and quite likely overstated. But what is surprising about the CBO report is the ways in which it makes the GOP bill look better than expected, and how it points to how the bill can be improved. [snip]
The first thing to know about the CBO is that it has long had problems modeling how a competitive, individual insurance market would work. This is reflected in their frequently revised estimates as to how many people would enroll in Obamacare’s insurance exchanges.
As the below chart shows, in 2010, when the Affordable Care Act was passed, CBO estimated that 21 million people would enroll in the ACA exchanges in 2016. The actual number was closer to 10 million. Even now, CBO believes that 18 to 19 million people will soon be enrolled in the exchanges, when in fact enrollment is degrading under current law, and will likely end up stabilizing at about 10 to 11 million. [snip]
This chart is relevant to our discussion of the GOP plan in two ways. First, it shows that the CBO is far from infallible; indeed, its projections of ACA exchange enrollment have been wildly off.
Second, as CBO notes in the first paragraph of its report on the AHCA, “CBO used its March 2016 baseline with adjustments for subsequently enacted legislation, which underlies the resolution, as the benchmark to measure the cost of the legislation.” That baseline is off by 7 to 8 million in future exchange enrollment; hence, the impact of the AHCA is also off by the same amount.
An even bigger problem is that the CBO has long believed that Obamacare’s individual mandate has near-magical powers to compel people to buy health insurance. There is little evidence to support this claim.
The Ryan plan, AHCA, gets mathed by Avik Roy. Roy checks out the numbers. Roy understands the CBO is a mess that does not know its ass from its mouth. The CBO has made 24 million people mistakes before. Roy has numbers upon numbers to make his case. Roy declares the CBO estimates on who loses coverage might be off by 19 million people.
Avik Roy has many prescriptions for what ails Paul Ryan’s plan. A lot of those prescriptions are tinkering with a Rube Goldberg contraption, but unfortunately America’s health care system, or rather health insurance system is a Rube Goldberg contraption.
The bill’s arbitrary 30 percent surcharge for those who buy coverage outside of open enrollment might actually make the risk pool less stable, and ought to be replaced by a much more flexible regulatory regime.
And we haven’t even gotten to the AHCA’s profound fiscal effects. The bill would cut taxes by $1.2 trillion, and spending by $880 billion, for a net deficit reduction of $337 billion. And that’s before you take into account the macroeconomic effects that those tax cuts would have on economic growth, and thereby on greater tax revenues.
Over ensuing decades, the fiscal impact would be even greater, because the bill entails the most significant effort at entitlement reform in American history. Incoherent GOP hard-liners like Rand Paul, who claim that the AHCA is a “new entitlement,” are displaying their unseriousness about a bill that reduces federal spending by more than $2 trillion over the next 20 years.
With all this wonderfulness, why so much upset? Here’s InsureBlog:
Republicans’ latest attempt to change Obamacare is nothing more than misdirection. It replaces “subsidies” with “tax credits”, continues Medicaid expansion until an election year (when nothing gets done), and keeps the most costly items such as guaranteed issue, community rating, and no pre-existing conditions exclusion in place.
It eliminates the individual mandate and creates a new continuous coverage rule allowing insurers to charge 30% higher premiums for up to 12 months to those who have a break in insurance coverage greater than 63 days. The new rule, like the mandate tax, has no teeth.
Speaking of taxes, it eliminates almost $600 million over ten years – which is a good thing. Except for the fact that over half of that amount does nothing to reduce or influence costs of health care or health insurance. More than half ($275 million) is going back to high income earners who are currently paying more in taxes for Medicare and investment income. We should also note these two taxes aren’t indexed so as incomes rise more of us would pay these over time.
For Medicaid, it would roll back the enhanced matching rate for the expansion population. This has serious implications for states who fell hook, line, and sinker for the bait of government funding that they knew wasn’t financially sustainable. [snip]
We should have known this was going to be a poo-poo platter. Anything short of full repeal – which takes 60 senators to accomplish – is nothing more than lip service.
HH: So what can be done? I’ve talked to the Speaker, I’ve got to the Leader. I’ve talked to Cathy McMorris Rodgers is on today, Mick Mulvaney, Tom Price. They all say it’s a three-step dance because of the Senate reconciliation rule. So you know those rules. Working within the rules, how can the Senate improve its bill, or how can the House send to the Senate a bill that fits within the guardrails of reconciliation and allows for 51 votes that improves the individual market?
TC: Hugh, there is no three-phase process. There is no three-step plan. That is just political talk. It’s just politicians engaging in spin. This is why. Step one is a bill that can pass with 51 votes in the Senate. That’s what we’re working on right now. Step two, as yet unwritten regulations by Tom Price, which is going to be subject to court challenge, and therefore, perhaps the whims of the most liberal judge in America. But step three, some mythical legislation in the future that is going to garner Democratic support and help us get over 60 votes in the Senate. If we had those Democratic votes, we wouldn’t need three steps. We would just be doing that right now on this legislation altogether. That’s why it’s so important that we get this legislation right, because there is no step three. And step two is not completely under our control.
And there’s the rub. Are there three steps? Is there only a two-step? Is there only one step?
* * * * * *
So, what the Hell is President Trump up to? Is President Trump doing a three step waltz, a lively little country two-step, or the singular Trump stomp? Got a dance card?
President Trump has more than a dance card. President Trump has a Trump card, or two.
In an Oval Office meeting featuring leaders of conservative groups that already lining up against House Republicans’ plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, President Donald Trump revealed his plan in the event the GOP effort doesn’t succeed: Allow Obamacare to fail and let Democrats take the blame, sources at the gathering told CNN.
In his meetings with conservative leaders President Trump has repeatedly declared that he is open to negotiations. The Medicaid funding provision until 2020? That might be hauled to 2018. The “tax credits” for lower income people some see as subsidies? That might be a tougher negotiation because former Freedom Caucus member Mike Mulvaney wants that to stay.
Mike Mulvaney now works for President Trump but he has lots of credibility with his former Freedom Caucus members, who are the fiercest critics of the Ryan plan. But any negotiations with “conservatives” might lead to trouble with “moderates”:
In addition to Medicaid changes, some White House officials are also pushing for the inclusion of provisions making it easier to buy health care across state lines. Senate budget rules, however, bar the upper chamber from including on a fast-tracked bill any provisions that don’t have a significant budgetary effect.
Rep. Dave Brat on Monday told POLITICO conservatives were asking the White House to back these kinds of free-market provisions. The Virginia Republican said the Freedom Caucus is also encouraging Trump officials to press for provisions that would enact into law any deregulations Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price plans to make administratively for the insurance market.
“Trump ran on this competition across state lines, bringing the price down, and so, that is the huge piece that, I think, if we can get that in the bill, then I think we can make some progress and I think get a lot of people to yes,” Brat said.
So while GOP leaders, including Speaker Paul Ryan, adamantly support the idea of allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines, they don’t think it can be included on the replacement bill under Senate rules. [snip]
The manager’s amendments are likely to bring additional savings, according to the White House officials, and would help the plan get through the House, where the Freedom Caucus has lined up opposition against the plan. But it would likely make passage in the Senate more difficult, several Capitol Hill officials said. That’s because many Senate Republicans — and more than a few House GOP lawmakers — hail from states that took the Medicaid expansion, and they’re unlikely to support a quick phase-out of the expanded program. [snip]
Leadership sources, however, have not ruled out changes to the bill altogether, and many senior House GOP sources believe there might be a manager’s amendment. But they have to ensure the changes will get several conservatives to “yes” if it’s actually made, while maintaining moderate Republican support. They can only afford to lose 21 Republican votes.
Oy vey! What a mess. Game over! Nothing can save this. It’s over for Trump, again. Well, there are some Trump cards still left to be played.
Remember “Phase II”? Phase I is the reconciliation process to pass the turd. Phase III is the delusion of goodies at the end of the road. But we never discussed Phase II. Phase II is the Trump card no matter what happens in Phase I. With Phase II, President Trump can force reality onto everybody as the 2018 elections draw close, ever closer every day. Phase II is the Trump card:
How Trump can use Obamacare to kill Obamacare
The same executive authority the Obama administration used to implement the law may now be used to dismantle it. [snip]
“For me, it’s a mix of irony and schadenfreude,” says Josh Blackman, a law professor who’s written two books that criticized the Obama administration’s implementation of the law. “I’ve warned for years that, with a new president in the White House, the exact same powers could be used for different purposes. That’s what we’re seeing now, to a T.”
Trump’s order, which encourages Health and Human Services, the IRS and other agencies to work toward dismantling the ACA, doesn’t confer any new powers on the executive branch. But Trump explicitly instructs his agencies to use their existing powers to weaken the law “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” regardless of congressional action to repeal it.
That could be devastating to Obamacare because the Obama administration relied on its executive authority to set up the law.
“Its implementation depended critically — and depends critically — on rules and guidance that HHS and other agencies have put out,” says Nicholas Bagley, a University of Michigan law professor who supports the ACA. “There are literally thousands of decisions that had to be made” by the administration — and “any decision that the Obama administration had the discretion to make, in principle, the Trump administration can revisit.”
A big, complex law always requires a lot of the details to be filled in through regulation, but that was particularly true of Obamacare. [snip]
Many of the law’s most controversial elements, like which Americans would be exempt from the mandate requiring most Americans to purchase insurance coverage, were administration decisions. Obama’s HHS secretary was also empowered to flesh out the important details about the benefits that Obamacare insurance plans were required to cover, from mental health to maternity care. Even Healthcare.gov — the much-maligned website that turned into the linchpin of Obamacare enrollment efforts — was built out through executive authority.
The vast, and at times, legally questionable decisions undertaken by the Obama administration may also set precedent for the Trump administration to do the exact same thing. Both Blackman and Bagley agree the administration’s 2013 decision to delay Obamacare’s employer mandate was unlawful; House Republicans even sued, although their challenge was thrown out in court. Trump could now cite that delay as precedent for declining to enforce provisions that he dislikes.
The Trump administration could also issue a slew of waivers to exempt Americans from the ACA’s individual mandate — although the Obama administration already broadened those exemptions in 2013, after the political outcry from Americans whose plans were canceled because they didn’t meet Obamacare criteria.
The “‘like it, keep it’ fiasco” set a precedent for Trump too, says Bagley.
At the time, the administration said it would give hardship waivers to Americans who had difficulties paying for coverage under the ACA. But “if you define the hardship as that, then every American is facing higher premiums because of the ACA, one way or another,” says Blackman. “Obamacare is itself the hardship.”
House Republicans also sued and won an initial ruling over the Obama administration’s payments to subsidize health care costs such as co-pays and deductibles for Obamacare enrollees under a certain income level. A federal court agreed the funds were illegally appropriated; the Obama administration appealed that decision. But Trump could discontinue the appeal, and hold that over Democrats in negotiations to replace the law: If he chooses to discontinue those payments, health insurers — which would be on the hook for those payments even if the government funding dried up — would probably flee the markets or jack up prices next year. Millions of ACA customers would likely see their premiums spike and their plans become unaffordable.
“If Trump were to stop the cost-sharing payments, he could send the individual insurance markets into an immediate tailspin,” says Bagley. “It would be an extraordinary hit.”
So what do we think happens? What are the Trump cards?
We believe that Phase I, amended by a managers amendment that will improve the bill, will pass the House and Senate because failure to do so would threaten the reelection of too many Republicans (and Dims in red states too). So the Republican opposition to Phase I in both the House and Senate will fail and Phase I of repeal/replace will happen.
If we are wrong and Phase I does fail or looks like it is about to fail, President Trump can implement Phase II and thereby force a revisit of Phase I by one and all – Democrats responsible for ObamaCare and the current mess as well as Republicans. President Trump can basically gut ObamaCare like a fish via Secretary Price.
President Trump can basically agree to the federal court ruling and stop immediately the cost sharing program and thereby destroy ObamaCare with the excuse that he is obeying a federal court order. End of the world ensues for Obama Dimocrats.
There is another Trump card to play: blow up the filibuster and pass whatever you want with 51 votes in the Senate. Better to blow up the soon to be destroyed filibuster in year one of Trump than year 4 or 8. The sooner the better.
“Under the Budget Act of 1974, which is what governs reconciliation, it is the presiding officer, the vice president of the United States, who rules on what’s permissible on reconciliation and what is not. [snip]
Cruz said this process would allow Republicans to include a number of provisions that would make the health care reform bill much more attractive to conservatives.
For example, Cruz notes that Republicans could “repeal all of the insurance regulations in Obamacare that have increased premiums,” in particular one that decreased competition by preventing insurers from selling across state lines.
Any more Trump cards? Well, under immigration reform President Trump could invite doctors and medical professionals from around the world to come to America and bring down costs. You know that ol’ law of supply and demand.
As Rahm Emanuel said to Barack Obama “never let a good crisis go to waste.”
