Charlie Hebdo #ParisShooting – Chickens Come Home To Roost For the Left In Paris, Harvard, And Hollywood

Update III: In France the latest Muslim killers have been killed. Both Muslim killer brothers have been killed and their hostage freed alive. Also the killers in the Jewish grocery have been killed. Reports are that their hostages have been freed also but nothing has been confirmed.

—————————————————–

Update II: There is a possible third incident in Paris and we are privately getting reports about something odd in New York City.

In New York City the FDR Drive in front of the United Nations was shut down by police but we can’t find out why. The Drive eventually reopened. Obama is engaged in publicity stunts in Tennessee so the FDR Drive was not shut down due to a visit by B.O.

In Paris, Trocadero Square near the Eiffel Tower has been closed. Reports of a third gun man in gun control Paris are a possibility. The French Interior Minister says there is no third armed incident.

Reports of two dead at the Jewish grocery have not been confirmed.

———————————————————–

Update: The Chickens continue to roost for the left in scenes reminiscent of Hitchcock’s The Birds. Overnight, the news focused on the killer brothers in gun control Paris holed up in a Paris suburb (Open Thread: Charlie Hebdo killers in hostage standoff) printing plant. The killers have a hostage and threaten to kill him.

Then this morning, more news. Another AK-47 armed Muslim in gun control France has invaded a grocery store (which we have heard referred to as Jewish owned or “Kosher” deli) and holds at least five hostages in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. This killer Muslim is responsible for the death of a police woman the previous day.

The reports are that there is a connection between the Muslim killer in Paris and the Muslim killer brothers at the printing plant. There might be two hostage takers in the Paris Kosher grocery.

None of the above will deter the kook left in America. Bill De Blasio and Barack Obama along with assorted leftist kooks are more worried about an “anti-Muslim backlash” instead of the Muslim terrorists they invite to attack the West.

De Blasio and Obama policies and language do indeed invite attacks because they essentially declare the West an open city prepared to welcome invasion. And let’s not let France off the hook for the terror attacks either. France has allowed “no go” Muslim communities to perpetuate a soft invasion of the West generally and France/Europe specifically.

The “no go” communities in France ruled now by Sharia Law, not French law, are arsenal fortresses for Muslims who reject the values of the West even as they invade the West as “immigrants”. De Blasio in New York as well as Barack Obama nationally follow in these steps as they actively work to undermine police observation of Muslim mosques and communities.

———————————————————

Wait until the next French elections and other elections across Europe. The earlier moves towards the right and demands to stop the soft Muslim invasion of Europe will accelerate with electric swiftness.

The early morning news that is Breaking: 12 dead in mass shooting at Paris newspaper which published Muhammad cartoons. “Outside the offices, the shooters were observed walking up to a police officer who was down and wounded on the sidewalk and almost casually executing him before getting back into their vehicle and leaving.Brunch anyone?

The Wednesday terror attack in Paris will continue the crisis of the Left in every country of the West.

The West and the values of Western Civilization are under attack. From the Left in the West all that is heard is appeasement. Appeasement, surrender, and collaboration worst than any seen since occupied Paris in the 40s. But now it is the Left that is under direct attack so the times they are a changing.

Earlier this week we witnessed ObamaCare advocates at Harvard University crimson in their fury as the ObamaCare chickens came home to roost. It was fine with the Cambridge set to ram ObamaCare up the rectum of America like a carcinogenic thermometer as long as others paid the bill.

The Harvard ObamaCare hawks cheered on the corruption of the law and denounced opponents of ObamaCare as “racists”. Now the chickens from their roosts are shit*ing on the eggheads in Harvard Square and the eggheads don’t like the bill they have to pay for the poisonous meal they themselves cooked.

The Hollywood Left too finds itself covered in sh*t as the North Korean chickens empty themselves on celebrity heads. As 2014 came to a close a major Hollywood studio came under a modern day cyber terror attack more horrifying than Ben Affleck at Pearl Harbor.

Obama Hollywood supporters like George Clooney, always ready to smear as “racists” anyone who warned against the weakness of Quisling Obama, discovered that Obama’s naive “lead from behind” style attracted threats and attacks sufficient to cripple the Sony Hollywood dream factory. Clooney’s Hollywood brethren found not a red carpet pizzazz premier but instead a major Christmas-time movie release relegated to the Youtube wasteland. Obama’s response to the successful infamous and unprecedented 21st century warfare attack? Weak sanctions on a state so debauched and pillaged no sanctions can hurt.

Now Charlie Hebdo the “strongly antireligious and left-wing” Paris weekly finds it’s curtains soaked crimson with the blood of at least a dozen of its top talent and staff. Why the attack? The religion of peace is at work again.

After the successful Hollywood terror attack by North Korea no big studio will dare make another movie that will take on the corruption and human rights atrocity that is North Korea. The attack on Charlie Hebdo raises the question as to whether the French, Europe, America, the West and the great civilization which is the West will surrender to the barbarians at the gate.

  1. Even if immediately unrelated, maybe west side Manhattan Jews will wake up too and stop supporting Obama Dimocrats:

    http://www.businessinsider.com/report-sarcelles-synagogue-car-explodes-2015-1

French media outlet Metronews reports that there’s been a car explosion in front of a synagogue in Sarcelles, a city near Paris where two were two gunmen attacked the office of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo just hours earlier.

It is not clear whether the two events are connected. The Paris version of Metro reports that this event was an incident unrelated with the attack at the magazine.

The car was parked in front of a synagogue, and reportedly exploded at about 2.30 p.m. local time (1.30 p.m. GMT).

  2. The Kook wing of the Kook party:

    http://weaselzippers.us/210198-unreal-howard-dean-warns-people-not-to-call-paris-terrorists-muslim/

    Via Newsbusters:

Howard Dean—that celebrated scholar of Islam—has weighed in on today’s murderous rampage in Paris and declared that he refuses to call the shooters in this and similar cases “Muslim terrorists.”

According to Dean, the disregard for the lives of others that these terrorists display “is not what the Koran says.” Dean’s denial of the obvious puts him in the company of many liberals, most notably including President Obama, who after the beheading of James Foley declared that ISIS “speaks for no religion.”

  3. Great reporting, admin: I got news of the Charlie Hebdo attack just minutes before it came on screen here at H44 — and I hadn’t heard about the policeman!

  4. Wow, Admin. The shit is hitting the fan all over the place. If order comes from chaos, it’s high time for order to make an appearance.

This article from The Federalist points out that in academic institutions throughout the country idealism of the far left has almost completely taken over in almost every department. It offers two possibilities. Either there has been a total liberal takeover of academia and and other institutions, and those who hold a more moderate or conservative view are just plain screwed, or a point of saturation has been reached, with the far left fully in control, and having no where to go but DOWN.

Copperhead will survive, for now. But now that he and McConnell have the power they have no excuse when they fail to pass legislation beneficial to the American People, whereas before, they could blame blame Reid. The puts them in a ticklish position as the next presidential election gets closer.

“Ticklish position” is the softest way of saying “in deep shit.” McCornhole promised to extirpate Obamacare “root and branch” and will have to eat his words. He will have a tough time even making minor changes, because he needs Dim support even in the House, where the Tea Party will not make things any easier for him.

With Congress in a total bind from now on, HRC is going to have plenty of campaign grist.

  6. Here’s a text (roughly translated) by Charlie Hebdo’s late editorial director written in October 2012 under the title:

    “Laugh, God dammit!”

Paint a glorious Muhammed, you die.
Draw a funny Muhammed, you die.
Scribble an ignoble Muhammed, you die.
Shoot a shitty film about Muhammed, you die.
    Resist religious terror, you die.
Kiss the fundamnetalists’ asses, you die.
Call a rabid ignoramus an idiot, you die.
Try to debate with a rabid ignoramus, you die.
    There’s no negotiating with fascists.
The freedom to belly-laugh, the law already gave us that, and the systematic violence of extremists gives it to us too.
    Thanks, assholes!

  7. Talk about your disconnects. I checked out Kooks to see if the bombing in France were mentioned. Didn’t get past the headline of the featured article:

WED JAN 07, 2015 AT 07:30 AM PST

Frustrated by lack of mainstream media coverage, #NAACPBombing hashtag goes viral
    byShaun King

“Just 12 hours before the bomb was detonated in Colorado Springs, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund publicly announced it was asking Missouri Circuit Court Judge Maura McShane to consider appointing a special prosecutor in the case against former Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson. While we have no way of knowing if the bomb was a direct result of the announcement, the timing makes it a real possibility.

In a time when racial tensions in our country appear to be growing, the troubling nature of this act of domestic terrorism should be blatantly obvious, but the lack of mainstream media coverage of the bombing for most of Tuesday morning, afternoon, and night was downright disturbing. CNN released its first piece about the bombing a full 16 hours after it happened, and the incident wasn’t mentioned on national nightly news broadcasts.”

    http://www.dailykos.com

    ____________

Who doesn’t feel like screaming AYFKM?! If mainstream media have not covered this incident, it’s because they haven’t had time to take a break from spinning the Ferguson and Garner cases or castigating the NYPD for turning its back on the mayor who bears his share of responsibility for two murdered policemen.

No mainstream media coverage? They just haven’t had time to solidify a plan to use this incident to stoke the fires of racial hatred and tension. Give ’em time. They’ll get there.

And, what will have been gained? Who reaps the benefit of the efforts by national leaders and MSM to widen the racial divide?

The Dim party thinks it will energize the black voters and recover ground lost. Black leaders like Sharpton will get richer. Organizations which ostensibly support blacks will get even richer. MSM will be able to influence public opinion by reporting half-truths. The far left gets a boost. Their activism can be made to appear relevant . They can return to the 1960s and revel in their self-righteousness.

This effort to make racial tension worse cheapens the civil rights movement. It makes a mockery of suffering of those who fought against racism, and fought for legislation to end racial discrimination. It diminishes the efforts made by a country that just elected a half-black president – twice, to demonstrate it embraced racial equality.

I saw your long comment… but decided to keep out of it.

… the apple-cart is upset again on the discussion of equal rights for women. I didn’t bother to tell my story because I know that it was a waste of my time.

I appreciated your story and your perspective.

Well, I very much appreciate your reading it. I know it was long, but I have an even longer one currently in the making (there are six more companies to talk about, with their suppliers and clientele). I think I’ll post tomorrow. I hope you will have the time to read & react. And also tell your own story.

You’re right, “the apple-cart is upset again” on this subject. That’s why I think it’s important to put what we’ve witnessed out there for debate.

  9. Below is an excerpt from an article at The Hill with Barack’s response to the incident in France.

    ___________

    From The Hill:

President Obama on Wednesday vowed to “hunt down” those responsible for the “cowardly, evil attacks” on a Parisian satirical newspaper, saying the U.S. would provide French authorities with “every bit of assistance that we can going forward.”

“For us, to see the kind of cowardly, evil attacks that took place today reinforces once again why it is so important for us to stand in solidarity with them,” Obama said ahead of an unscheduled meeting with Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Biden in the Oval Office.

“The fact that this was an attack on journalists, an attack on our free press, also underscores the extent to which these terrorists fear freedom of speech and freedom of the press,” Obama continued.

A dozen people were killed and three others were critically wounded when gunmen opened fire at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a newspaper known for provocative comics that often poked fun at religion.

Obama said the U.S. would bring those responsible to justice, “and roll up the networks that helped to advance these kind of plots.” The president added he was instructing his national security team to “make sure we remain vigilant” in protecting Americans across the globe.

Obama said he had not yet had an opportunity to speak directly to French President Francois Hollande, but that he hoped to have the opportunity later on Wednesday. Obama is scheduled to depart Washington in the early afternoon and travel to Detroit for a speech on the economy.

“I thought it was appropriate for me to express my deepest sympathies to the people of Paris, the people of France for the terrible terrorist attack that took place earlier today,” Obama said. “I think that all of us recognize France is one of our oldest allies, our strongest allies — they have been with us every moment.”

  10. These horrific acts are becoming more and more prevalent. What a horrible and scary world we are living in.

  11. Jeswezey

I read all your posts and to be honest, I don’t think telling our personal stories on the blog will change anyone’s mind here. I have already been called on the mat at work for a post I made on the blog some years ago…so I have to keep where I work and what is going on private. As a single parent, I can’t afford to lose my job. Yes, somehow, someone from work was watching PUMA blogs, figured out who I was and reported me. (I can’t be more specific on the subject).

I do agree that women that work as ‘icing on the cake’, second income for their family, and women that are supporting their families on their own do look for job security and health insurance over the freedom to make higher wages in a more unstable job situation. This does not mean that women value what that do less nor do they appreciate making less money then men on average. If more men were single parents, supporting their children…maybe then the fight for equal wages would be heard.

  12. This religious war by terrorists is showing the worst part of humanity and so are the freakin’ race wars. Sometimes I actually hate people. What a flawed species we are. Belief in a specific ‘God’ has been an excuse to kill for centuries.

  13. JBStonesFan, on our Twitter feed today we noticed that the response from many is to blame all religions for the savagery of today. Oddly, it was an atheist who rejected that “blame all religions” strategy of the left.

Feminist icon idiot propagandist Sally Kohn asserted the line from the left:

    https://twitter.com/sallykohn/status/552823480178475008

People kill in the name of all religions—incl Islam, Christianity, Judaism. They don’t represent entire community. They are EXTREMISTS.

Atheist Richard Dawkins got it right:

    https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins/status/552844234689372160

No, all religions are NOT equally violent. Some have never been violent, some gave it up centuries ago. One religion conspicuously didn’t.

  14. The Egyptian President understands what the American left does not. Here is another Muslim who agrees the problem is Islam, not “all religions”:

    http://www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2015/01/the-dastardly-attack-in-paris.html

On February 14, 1989, I was working as a young engineer in my office at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, DC, when I heard the news of Khomeini’s murderous fatwa against Salman Rushdie and all the publishers of his novel The Satanic Verses. In retrospect, I am surprised by just how much the news upset me. I was unable to work and got permission to leave early and went home. It wasn’t just that Salman Rushdie was one of my favorite writers, someone I consider a literary genius, and I was afraid for his safety; it was also that I knew in my gut that this was the opening salvo in what would become a massive internationalization of an Islamic war on freedom of speech and expression. After all, the government of Iran was threatening and planning to murder a British citizen, and even encouraging other Britons to murder him by putting a bounty on his head, with the enthusiastic approval of a large proportion of Muslims everywhere. And although, thank goodness, Rushdie remains safe, the Islamists have largely been winning this war since. They have successfully intimidated a very large number of writers and artists and journalists and film-makers all over the world into silence (and many live in exile because of threats to their safety), and within Muslim countries they have in addition used blasphemy laws to persecute their enemies and basically make any discussion of religion impossible. All this while religious apologists continue to proclaim to CNN and the BBC that their religion stands only for peace. Tell that to the tens of thousands of victims of religious violence in Pakistan alone. “Oh, the number of extremists is very small; most Muslims are peace-loving people.” The number of actual terrorists is always small. The problem is that too great a proportion of Muslims sympathize with these people, which is why it is impossible to eliminate them. Let us stop fooling ourselves with this nonsense. People need to stand up for free speech unequivocally, and against this barbarity, and especially Muslims need to. The battle must be joined now, in every way possible.

  15. Progressive:

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/180422/three-american-jews-identify-republicans.aspx

About Three in 10 American Jews Identify as Republicans

29% of American Jews are Republican, up from 22% in 2008
61% of Jews are Democrats, down from 71% seven years ago
Highly religious and male Jews are most likely to be Republican

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In 2014, 29% of Jewish Americans identified as Republicans or leaned Republican, little changed in recent years, but higher than in 2008. Meanwhile, 61% of American Jews identified as Democrats or leaned Democratic, down from 71% in the strongly Democratic year of 2008.

The diminished Democratic skew among American Jews in recent years is slightly more pronounced than the same trend among all Americans. The percentage of the general population that identifies with or leans Democratic has fallen by about seven percentage points since 2008, compared with the 10-point drop among Jews. The percentage that identifies with or leans Republican among the general population is up three points, compared with the increase of seven points among Jews.

  16. To be a Jew and support the democratic party’s middle eastern policy is tantamount to seeking the destruction of Israel.

  17. The early morning news that is Breaking: 12 dead in mass shooting at Paris newspaper which published Muhammad cartoons.
    ————–
Like the man who goes to the south pole and complains about the weather—this is a surprise? A surprise that people who revel in beheading western journalists and Christians would strike back against what they deem to be blasphemy. But most ridiculous of all is clown Obama, who seeks to impose political correctness on his own citizens and to control our press, would act as though the Paris newspaper is protected by the First Amendment and it is our responsibility to bring these people to justice. It seems to me that this is not the responsibility of our federal government, or our taxpayers. Seems to me that this is the responsibility of the French authorities to apprehend these suspects, and Obama needs to sit down, shut up, and let the FBI play a support role or informational role only to the extent that it is helpful. The cavalry that responds to this “workplace violence” should be a French one. Obama should butt out. He has no idea what he is doing, any more than he knew what he was doing when he went MIA on the night of the Benghazi attack. He is about as credible as Barney Fife in these matters.

  18. Lets be fair about this. This ain’t about freedom of the press. These are cheap shouts by a questionable newspaper calculated to inflame radical muslims. The first Amendment is not absolute, except to Hugo Black. There are two exception that are relevant here: first, fighting words are not protected. Second, neither is the right to scream fire in a crowded theater is not protected either. Both may be prosecuted. These exception are based on practical wisdom, and experience. That fucking Obama has neither of those attributes. He is a joke. If he wants to know why this has happening all he needs to do is look in the mirror. If he wants to stop it he does not need to send in the marines. All he needs to do is resign.

  19. Wbb

Gotta agree with you on Obola butting out and the FBI/CIA or whatever agency can help plays a supporting role to France.

If he did, it would be the FIRST thing that he’s done right in 6+ years.

  20. President Obama on Wednesday vowed to “hunt down” those responsible for the “cowardly, evil attacks” on a Parisian satirical newspaper, saying the U.S. would provide French authorities with “every bit of assistance that we can going forward.”–Obama

I promise you that we will get to the bottom of Benghazi—Obama

I swear that I will hunt down the perpetrators of the Benghazi attack—Obama

I promise that I will get to the bottom of the IRS scandal—Obama

Now that I have gotten to the bottom of the IRS scandal I can assure you there is not a smidgeon of corruption.

If you like your health care plan you can keep it.

I have drawn a red line in the sand in the middle east, and woe betide whoever dares to cross it.

I will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons until they acquire nuclear weapons.

Nobody in their right mind takes Obama seriously. His promises mean nothing. His hyperbole is a joke. He is the wizard of ooze.

  21. Wbb
It is about Freedom of the Press, it may have been questionable in the culture France has allowed…but so goes France..so goes America, we can not bow in fear or we will lose everything. .

  22. Earlier reports that the 2 brothers were captured are apparently untrue. It is true the youngest monster did give himself up.

  23. it is a joke to hear O talking about freedom of the press…even his adoring journalists have had to admit the O admin has been the least open to the free press and the most oppressive…with criminal charges, invasion of the privacy of journalists and their families, hacking their computers, threatening and demanding the narratives of stories…keeping photographers at a distance…on and on…

  24. Wbb
It is about Freedom of the Press, it may have been questionable in the culture France has allowed…but so goes France..so goes America, we can not bow in fear or we will lose everything. .
    ——
    Bowing to fear?

Is that how you interpreted my comments?

What I am against is bowing to hypocrisy.

Big promises followed by non action.

    I am also against appeasement.

Hypocrisy and appeasement are the defining characteristics of Obama.

I see those as character flaws, but big media sees them as virtues.

Or else, they look at him and see themselves.

Obama is the tool the elites want to divide the nation.

To preserve their own wealth and power.

And the appeasement which has allowed the virus of Muslim terrorism to survive and thrive—never works.

Obama’s foreign policy is defined by those two characteristics.

  25. The other thing I am against is the divine right of big media to lie, mislead, attack, inflame, condescend—which are their prevailing characteristics. Voltataire may have said he would die to preserve the right of someone he disagreed with to disagree. Assuming he was not an idiot, he would be hard pressed to say that about these giant out of control media institutions who are the negation of those patriots with printing presses questioning the king who were the source of inspiration for the first amendment. Who in their right mind sees any connection between them and those smug deluded partisans at NYT and AP who deserve not garlands, but to rot in hell.

  26. I am also against appeasement
    ———
It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say: —
“We invaded you last night–we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.”

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ’em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: —
“Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

    And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
    For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: —

    “We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
    No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that pays it is lost!”

  27. As the first sentence in our article states, the political implications of this attack in Paris are many but among the most important is the likelihood that the French will wake up and swing to the only party that is listening to the people: the far, far right party of Le Pen.

That is precisely the problem the New York Times sees. It is not the Muslims killing and the terrorism that concerns the Times and Big Media. They are worried that the far far right will grab the vote in European elections.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/08/world/europe/paris-attack-reflects-a-dangerous-moment-for-europe.html

  28. https://www.commentarymagazine.com/2015/01/07/big-day-craven-self-censorship/

A Big Day for Craven Self-Censorship

One of the strangest reactions to today’s horrific terror attack in Paris has been the Western media’s collective freakout resulting in news organizations making a point of censoring their own work. [snip]

That said, there was a bizarre trend today in which media organs seemed to go out of their way to show the world that they were censoring the very images that were rallying the West to France’s side, even (or especially) when no one would have noticed if they hadn’t.

The best examples of this are what the New York Daily News did, which mirrored what the UK Telegraph did. After twelve people were killed in the massacre at the Charlie Hebdo offices, with the murderers reportedly yelling that Muhammad had been “avenged” by the attack, the Telegraph posted a photo in which a copy of the paper appeared but blurred the “offensive” part of the cover. Why post the photo at all other than as some kind of preemptive and desperate capitulation?

The Daily News did the same, in an especially undignified manner. The paper ran a picture (still up as I write this, at this link) of Charlie Hebdo editor Stéphane Charbonnier (known as Charb), who was killed in the attack. The photo shows Charb outside the wreckage of Charlie Hebdo’s offices after they were firebombed in 2011. Charb is holding up a copy of the paper, which the Daily News blurred. The symbolism of that particular picture, with the blurred cover, is perfectly on the nose.

Other preemptive self-censorship followed, usually after the discovery of just regular old self-censorship. In a roundup of censorship, Rosie Gray revealed that the Associated Press was removing photos from its library showing Charlie Hebdo covers that satirized Muhammad. The Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney posted that despite this censorship, the AP was still selling its photo of “Piss Christ.” Soon after that, the AP took that photo down as well. [snip]

Christians are not campaigning for the end of free speech in the West, and yet the AP acts as though they are. That’s deeply dishonest, and completely misses the point when Christians complain of the double standard. That’s why I used the word “freakout” earlier to describe the media’s behavior. The Associated Press appears to have lost its collective mind.

Unmentioned is that Big Media censored the picture by blurring the Mohamed portion but the other part of the picture – which featured a large hooked nose Jew – was left intact.

  29. CNN goes Jihadi:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/01/07/cnn-memo-to-staff-we-are-not-at-this-time-showing-charlie-hebdo-cartoons-of-the-prophet/

CNN memo to staff: We are not at this time showing Charlie Hebdo cartoons of “the Prophet”

Like I said: Terrorism works. The future will not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.

In fact, in the future, maybe our media will refer to him as “the Prophet” without further description. If you’re going to live by one Muslim standard, you might as well live by all of them.

[Senior CNN editorial director Richard] Griffiths’ email:

Although we are not at this time showing the Charlie Hebdo cartoons of the Prophet considered offensive by many Muslims, platforms are encouraged to verbally describe the cartoons in detail. This is key to understanding the nature of the attack on the magazine and the tension between free expression and respect for religion.

Video or stills of street protests showing Parisians holding up copies of the offensive cartoons, if shot wide, are also OK. Avoid close-ups of the cartoons that make them clearly legible.

It’s also OK to show most of the protest cartoons making the rounds online, though care should be taken to avoid examples that include within them detailed depictions of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

This isn’t the first time American news networks have refused to show images of Mohammed, as the boss emeritus points out, but that tremulous “if shot wide” in the excerpt above is a perfectly absurd little coup de grace. I saw someone tweet earlier this afternoon that they’d rather see news outlets avoid this story entirely than betray the martyred Hebdo staff by refusing to transmit the images they died defending. I agree. There’s a shred of honesty in a total blackout, an acknowledgement that if a journalist can’t cover a story without restrictions he shouldn’t cover it at all. To repeat the point I made in the post about Obama’s 2012 speech, I can tolerate caving to jihadi sensibilities so long as there’s some shame involved. Blacking out the story entirely would signal shame. Refusing to do close-ups of a crowd of people mourning satirists murdered in the name of censorship because you fear you might pick up one or two of the offending drawings doesn’t.

Oh, incidentally, NBC and its affiliates won’t be showing the cartoons either:

NBC News spox to me right now says they will not be showing cartoons that “could be viewed as insensitive” pic.twitter.com/kPXP6QsNP8

They are worried that the far far right will grab the vote in European elections.

    ————-

“Democrats too had better wake up or I suspect, as is about to happen in Europe, there will be a revolution at the voting booth unlike any that has been ever been seen. 2014 will have been child’s play/”

—Roger Simon, PJMedia, concluding sentence in the article below.

Or, as NYT might well conclude, behind every Muslim terrorist—excuse me, that was not politically correct, behind every person of faith who chooses to act out his or her moral convictions in a socially unacceptable way, which is non congruent with the state sponsored secular religion of Obamalove, there is a red blooded American atheist just dying to get out.

(Note: this is a rough quote for a marine colonel in the movie Full Metal Jacket who, like NYT is a bit of a partisan and slightly out of touch with reality, because he too is insulated from the consequences of his stupidity, even though the marines under his command are not.)

The worst that could come of this for Little Lord Arthur is Le Penn might not grant his rag an interview. And maybe, if we are really lucky, Le Penn will dust off the Devil’s tooth for the benefit of all those ethically challenged AP journalists who bought into the brave new world non sense peddled by Obama, and worshiped the asshole at every turn. Failure should beget accountability, rather than more lies, and evasion, and god forbid, lofty speeches by the wizard of ooze–Obama.

After Paris, Will Obama Continue to Close Gitmo?

    January 7th, 2015 – 5:40 pm

Of all the lies Barack Obama has told — and they are almost uncountable, in the thirties on Obamacare alone — by far the most dangerous for you, dear reader, and for almost anyone in the Western world, are the statements he has made about Islamic terror (when he has even admitted it existed). How many times has he told us that al-Qaeda was defeated or on the run? Or that ISIS — now in control of territory the size of Indiana and initiating educational systems for six year olds while turning scores of women into sex slaves — is the jayvee team?

How ridiculous, even obscene, that seems after Tuesday’s events in Paris — especially since the terrorists were evidently trained Islamists, one of them, Cherif Kouachi, having been convicted of terrorism in 2008 and sentenced to 18 months in prison. He emerged to murder a dozen people and maim a dozen more, some of them evidently seriously.

Nevertheless, Obama’s own house organ, the New York Times, tells us that POTUS is working overtime (and secretly) to close the military prison in Guantanamo:

In a series of secret nighttime flights in the last two months, the Obama administration made more progress toward the president’s goal of emptying the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, than it had since 2009. The accelerated pace came after an era of political infighting and long bureaucratic delays.

Now 127 prisoners remain at Guantánamo, down from 680 in 2003, and the Pentagon is ready to release two more groups of prisoners in the next two weeks; officials will not provide a specific number. President Obama’s goal in the last two years of his presidency is to deplete the Guantánamo prison to the point where it houses 60 to 80 people and keeping it open no longer makes economic sense.

Economic sense? Another lie. When did Obama care about that? But more importantly, just who is being released here? Another Cherif Kouachi?

ctually, it’s even more dangerous than that. Kouachi is literally the jayvee compared to many of Islamothugs incarcerated in Gitmo, some of whom have even toyed with nuclear weapons. Several have already rejoined the jihad since release, making Obama an accessory to murder, if you think about it on any rational level. And the worst offender, the greatest psychopaths, have yet to be released. Given what just occurred in Paris, the next paragraph from the NYT is particularly disturbing. The Republican congresspeople empowered with approving the next secretary of Defense should take note:

Although Mr. Obama still has a long way to go, senior administration officials say the president is expecting Ashton B. Carter, his nominee for defense secretary, to move more aggressively on emptying Guantánamo than did Chuck Hagel, the previous defense chief. Mr. Obama may be commander in chief, but Mr. Hagel had the power to delay approval of prisoner transfers from Guantánamo for months. Fearful that the freed detainees could become a security threat to American troops abroad, Mr. Hagel moved slowly, frustrating the White House, and ultimately resigned under pressure.

It would be interesting to know just who those “senior administration officials” are. I bet they are hiding under a rock at this moment. Of course the NYT will never tell us. Neither would Pravda.

As I said earlier, it is your safety and mine that is involved here, not to mention our families and millions of other innocent people in practically every country. Short of a lobotomy, there is absolutely no reason to believe that those incarcerated in Guantanamo have reformed in any way. They are essentially mass murderers for a fanatic religious cause.

Do you want them released on the world? Barack Obama — a genuinely confused man — does. He’s got jihadists mixed up with doofuses selling pot in Seattle — and I mean that literally. Still playing out the unfulfilled dreams of his childhood — the words of Frank Marshall Davis and other ideologues embedded in his unconscious — he is endangering all of us. It is mandatory that we don’t let it happen.

Democrats too had better wake up or I suspect, as is about to happen in Europe, there will be a revolution at the voting booth unlike any that has been ever been seen. 2014 will have been child’s play.

  31. Thank goodness France has gun control so the criminals cannot get their hands on guns as we in America are constantly preached to by those in France. Thank goodness France has appeased Muslims so they will not be attacked by Muslims. We should all listen to the wise French who deride the American bitter clinger “gun culture”.

    http://washington.cbslocal.com/2015/01/08/third-french-police-officer-killed-as-terror-suspects-reportedly-spotted/

PARIS (CBS News/CBSDC/AP) — A third French police officer was gunned down Thursday south of Paris as the manhunt for two men suspected in the massacre at a satirical newspaper the day before appeared to hone in on its targets northeast of the French capital.

Interior Minister Berbard Cazeneuve said two people, including a police officer, were gravely wounded in the shooting Thursday in the southern Paris suburb of Montrouge, which came amid the ongoing manhunt for two heavily armed brothers — one with possible links to al Qaeda — suspected in the methodical killing of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo newspaper the day before.

The police officer shot Thursday, a woman, died in hospital of her injuries, a police union confirmed.

There were reports, meanwhile, that the brothers wanted in the Charlie Hebdo attack were surrounded by police in a building in Crepy-en-Valois, northeast of Paris.

Earlier they were reportedly spotted in a grey Renault Clio — a vehicle matching the description of one linked to the suspects on Wednesday — in the Aisne area, in northern France. French news agency AFP said the two men had been “located” in northern France.

Other reports suggested the two men were driving toward Paris from the northeast. Police confirmed to CBS News that personnel had established checks at all major highway entry points into the capital city.

One of the reported sightings was by a gas station employee, who told a television station two men came in and stole gas and other items before driving off. He said they were carrying weapons.

It was not immediately clear whether Thursday’s shooting was linked in any way to the attack on Charlie Hebdo, a newspaper which has ridiculed political and religious figures for years and had been previously attacked by Muslim extremists for artistic depictions of the Prophet Muhammad. Cazeneuve urged people not to jump to conclusions.

Inspector Clouseau meets the Brothers Tsarnaev.

  32. I saw someone tweet earlier this afternoon that they’d rather see news outlets avoid this story entirely than betray the martyred Hebdo staff by refusing to transmit the images they died defending.

Oh sure, these were real heroes, not only that they were martyrs for a free press.

    What delusion.

These were catty scribes who thought they could go in the lions cage without consequences.

I am all in favor of finding the perpetrators and letting god sort them out.

But to pretend these people, like the Marines on Iwo Jima, knowingly sacrificed their lives for a greater cause

Is as sick as those who murdered them.

The only message of substance from that terrorism by any other name is still terrorism and appeasement does not work.

That is the truth, and it is why, in a leadership sense, Obama is responsible.

He let down our guard, and as he releases known terrorists from Gitmo, he guarantees more of this.

Because–you’ll never get rid of the Dane (supra).

As the first sentence in our article states, the political implications of this attack in Paris are many but among the most important is the likelihood that the French will wake up and swing to the only party that is listening to the people: the far, far right party of Le Pen.
    ———–
    A very astute comment.

One that Hillary needs to take to heart.

When 2/3 of the public says they would vote for a third party if they believed it had a chance of winning, as Carter pollster Pat Caddell has noted

There is no advantage in being an insider, no advantage in being an Obama mouth piece, and every reason in the world to adopt a populist message.

Cavorting with Goldman Sachs and then going on a listening tour is bad karma. If she reflects on the lack of success of her book tour, this should be obvious.

Rather than worshipping Mammon, she should be devoting every ounce of her energy and attention to figuring out where the public mind is at and where it is going. She needs to go beyond the polls to the grass roots. Bottom up–not top down.

Since I have no confidence she will do this, I feel like Mad King Lear shrieking at the heaven. It may be madness, but it is good for the soul. And, at a minimum, it allows me to tell the world you may be a bunch of rubes, but I am not.

  34. This author of article below claims one of the problems related to Charlie Hebdo’s questionable (in the author’s view) right of free speech is that those who were doing the free speaking were primarily white. That premise seems to mirror the general attitude of the Far Left regarding other issues involving race – if a tragedy occurs in the black community, it’s solely because of race, and it’s the fault of all caucasians. The article also references the residual hostilities about and sensitivities related to the Algerian war.

I’m not sure this article is correct in stating that the number of Anti-Islam cartoons was disproportionately greater than the number of cartoons satirizing other religions. I wanted to do more research to confirm this, but my computer is running slower than molasses in an ice storm, and I’ll have to do that another time. But, the article does point out that the magazine featured sexist and homophobic cartoons, as well. The inclusion of women and gays as two of the groups satirized seems to be an attempt to manipulate the reader. Or, maybe I’m just paranoid about the Left’s penchant for manipulation in order to protect specific groups and promises within its ideology.

I especially hate to see sexist cartoons whatever their source, although I do think those that blatantly, obvious sexist satire less dangerous than sexism that doesn’t even know it’s sexism.

Regardless, as has been quoted here previously, although I can’t remember the origin of the quote at the moment, and again, computer running too damn slow to look it up:

    Paraphrasing:

I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.

(that’s is obviously not the exact quote – but the gist of it.

Excerpt below from The Hooded Utilitarian:

    _________________

    (snip)

When faced with a terrorist attack against a satirical newspaper, the appropriate response seems obvious. Don’t let the victims be silenced. Spread their work as far as it can possibly go. Laugh in the face of those savage murderers who don’t understand satire.
In this case, it is the wrong response.

Here’s what’s difficult to parse in the face of tragedy: yes, Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical newspaper. Its staff is white. Its cartoons often represent a certain, virulently racist brand of French xenophobia. While they generously claim to ‘attack everyone equally,’ the cartoons they publish are intentionally anti-Islam, and frequently sexist and homophobic.

    (snip)

Even in a fresh-off-the-press, glowing BBC profile of Charb, Hebdo’s murdered editor, he comes across as a racist asshole.

Charb had strongly defended Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons featuring the Prophet Muhammad.

“Muhammad isn’t sacred to me,” he told the Associated Press in 2012, after the magazine’s offices had been fire-bombed.
“I don’t blame Muslims for not laughing at our drawings. I live under French law. I don’t live under Koranic law.”

  35. To put a finer point on it–saying me too to everything Obama says and does is the antithesis of listening to the people—the thing which, according to the article directly above, swings the political pendulum. Today, in every conceivable way, the Party of Obama is out of touch with the country. If Hillary were of Mia Love’s age, hoping to be accepted in her new role, now might not be the ideal time to move against leadership, as a practical matter, but given Hillary’s age vs. that of the electorate (and that IS a factor Shadow, much as you and I might hope it was otherwise) she needs to separate herself from the status quo and become, like the words of the old Sinatra song Young at Heart—politically.

    I see.

But if race was the proxmimate cause of these murders, then pray tell how do they account for similar death threats against the author of Satanic Verses, who was of the same race and religion as the terrorists.

Could it possibly be that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in the leftist Obama philosophy?

Who will rid me of these delusional leftists . . .

Obviously not Chris Van Hollen, who exploits critical racial thinking as much as Jerry Wright does.

This pathology is endemic in the political class in general, the democrat party, the media, and as we saw in Mississippi establishment Republicans as well.

  37. Conspicuous in its absence as radical islam and its despicable treatment of and attitude about women increasingly rears its ugly head, is the outrage of so-called liberal feminism.

Political correctness has morphed into impotence when it comes to the feminist organizations in this country and in some Western European countries.

NOW has apparently narrowed it’s focus to the issue of birth control -judging from the featured photos and headlines on its website. There’s a nod to the problem of domestic violence, but primarily, it’s all about birth control, even though it’s highly doubtful that anyone who wants access to birth control in this country cannot obtain it at a reasonable price. In most places it’s given out free – or at extremely low cost – at the local Health Department. The focus on it seems little more than an attempt to politicize this issue, which diminishes its importance – as happens with all issues that are overly politicized,

    _________

    Preach it, wbb. Spot on.

  39. This morbid preoccupation with race is the undoing of this country. It pits people who believe they are not responsible for it and refuse to feel guilty about it, against people who want to use it as a sword and a cash cow and/or an excuse for what has or has not happened in their lives. Lord knows, this country has tried to resolve the issue, by fighting a civil war over it, integrating our institutions, engaging in reverse discrimination, spending a trillion on Great Society Programs which created dependency on government, etc. Black elites like Obama, Rice, Jehh, Holder, et al. have benefited, but those who are hurting still are. As we see in the context of marriage, if you push grievances which have no solution on the merits to the breaking point, the differences become irreconcilable, in which case the only resolution is divorce. Since divorce is not practical here, the result is a balkanization, which is the ideal solution for the elites who know they are cutting a fat hog, and know that they are a minority and must therefore divide and conquer. How much of that is conscious strategy and how much of it is a more generalized inclination will vary case by case.

  40. Wbboei, France/European populations will not wake up due to anything the political parties do (not even the party of Le Pen and their equivalents in other nations). France/Europe will wake up for one simple reason: their Muslim populations.

By this we mean that France/Europe are about to discover that the Muslim populations are well aware of the weakness of the governments of Europe and the easy pickings they are and will take full advantage of that weakness.

France/Europe and all the Big Media entities ostentatiously engaged in the Kabuki of #JeSuisCharlie and other such humbug will soon enough (some such as Howard Dean and the kooks of the American Left are still in Muslim protection patrol) revert to form. What won’t revert to the previous form is the Muslim populations.

Muslims throughout Europe see that the governmental response to their bloody attack is more whistle-past-the-graveyard cartoons and Twitter outrage. Not much else will be done by France/Europe.

The Muslim populations of Europe see the weakness of the West and therefore they will be emboldened. There will be blood and more blood and no matter how many bribes are paid, how much tribute is dispensed, how much France/Europe do to betray Israel and bow to the Muslim populations the Muslims will reply with more and more violence.

That last is what will ultimately lead to Le Pen parties’ victories around the continent. Big Media in the U.S. and Europe will revert to Muslim protection and the political parties will continue to lie to their populations. In the U.S. the Republicans in Congress will continue to ignore the population and do nothing to implement their promises. In Europe, ditto. But Muslims encouraged by the results of their violence will persist with more and more violence until there is a very powerful explosive reaction from the population.

Already in Germany the stir has begun. Earlier election results heralded what is to come across Europe. Change is about to erupt in Europe and America in spite of the political parties not because of it. In this sense Hillary is already irrelevant as are all political players who don’t look to the horizon and see the storm.

  41. France is 21% Muslim..,If Obama had his way, so would we be.
When I go to the grocery store in the evening, the Muslim women come out of the woodwork, followed by their husbands.
This is a very conservative city, if they can populate here, they can populate anywhere. I believe they use our laws against us, evident by the many “sisters” one see’s…They get many monetary benefits from the US to settle and take care of the multitudes of children they produce.
It drives me crazy, I can’t help how I feel about them.
I actually feel I have to keep my eye on them because at any moment they may decide to go terrorist.
What a bizarre world we have become.
Political correct till death do us part.

  42. Freespirit, the Obama Dimocrats have another strategy or rather tactic than the one NOW bitterly clings to.

The tactic is this one: Left claims GOP is trying to destroy Social Security on day one of new congress.

As that article notes, the whorehouse that is TPM published an article along those lines. What they don’t note (being Republicans it takes them a while before they realize that the headlights have a truck behind them) is that this is part of a concerted effort of emails and large USPS mailings designed to push this Social Security narrative.

What Obama Dimocrats want to do is try to recapture some of the seniors they lost with this social security nonsense. Ditto same strategy for the white middle class and the white working class voters.

ODs will have NOW try the exhausted “war on women” tactic to keep young single women chasing their tails and whatever other “social issues” might work. All the other identity groups will do the same. Blacks and young gullibles will get the twitter campaign of the clownish #NAACPbombing foolishness. But the economic argument for whites in the middle and working classes will be the Social Security gambit which Republicans are entirely unprepared for.

  43. Conspicuous in its absence as radical islam and its despicable treatment of and attitude about women increasingly rears its ugly head, is the outrage of so-called liberal feminism.
    ————
We see the same thing in their unwillingness to stand against Matthews in his sexist attacks on Hillary (the New York chapter being the single exception), their reluctance to condemn the lack of equal pay for equal work in the Obama White House, and their willingness to turn a blind eye to the most extreme forms of sexism as seen in Sharia law. The only consistent them in NOW is a cloying interest in political power, and, of course, in money.

If you are familiar with the writings of Camile Paglia and Christine Hoff Summers, both of them feminists, they applaud the efforts of women like Amelia Erheart who proved she could do what Lindberg was deified for doing, vs. Gloria Steinham who is a photogenic Stalinist, as Paglia calls her. It is the difference between what they call gender equity feminists and those who see feminism as a religion of sorts, a cash cow, and a revolution in being which tip toes around the real culprits. Mature observers notice that these people always look for the weaker symbolic targets to attack.

    see merit in that distinction.

    ———–
    True.

The Republicans have not anticipated this attack.

But the larger problem is through their past initiatives, they have given credence to it.

You may recall how Bush wanted to move social security contributions into the stock market, to benefit his Wall Street friends. His argument was people could get a better return on investment. That was prior to the 2008 crash.

Also, Paul Ryan wanted to move those under 55 away from social security, to guarantee it future stability–or so he said.

The problem with the Republican establishment (RINO) is more loyal to its donors than to its constituents.

Longtime California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer will not run for reelection in 2016, she announced Thursday. Her decision means the loss of a major Democratic power player in the Senate, especially on the issue of the environment, and sets up what’s likely to be an intense race to replace her.

“I am never going to retire. The work is too important. But I will not be running for the Senate in 2016,” she said in a YouTube video confirming the long-rumored plans of her retirement from a Senate seat she’s held since 1993.

  47. What was interesting to watch was how the MSM brought moderate Muslims on their shows to give credibility to the alleged universal condemnation of these barbaric acts. It was painfully obvious that the real objective was to not spoil the narrative they created which is proven false each time we see these repeated acts of terror.

For ten centuries the Paris sewer system has played host to the largest rats on record who fest on the smorgasboard of excrement that wafts its way through that netherworld. I suspect that Holder will going into the sewers looking for white terrorists and those stark KKK enthusiasts of his warped imagination. Also, he will also be tracing his genealogical history, i.e.”Roots” roots among his fellow sewer rats. It remains to be seen whether the rats will object to his presence–or treat him as they should, which is to say, as one of their own.

  51. Holder is something of an expert on terrorists. If past is prologue, he will convince German gun dealers to sell guns to Muslim terrorists living in France, lose track of the weapons, blame local authorities, and when the flames of an investigation start to singe his corrupt ass, prevail upon the big media beloved Messiah to invoke executive privilege. Sounds like a plan to me. Lanny Brewer can help.

  64. I think you are really starting to lose it Wbb.

I have never seen you so angry at just about everything.

Believe me, I haven’t forgotten anything about the way Hillary was treated by Nasty, Boxer and the rest.

  65. To put a finer point on it, the reason Manchin (D-WV) is NOT mobbed up is because his word means nothing. Whereas, with mob guys, their word is their bond. Its not because they are good Christian gentlemen–far from it. Its because keeping your word is the law of the street. Its a matter of honor, self respect etc. I can think of examples in labor negotiation where we agreed to something and then failed through (my) oversight to reduce it to writing. They stood behind what was agreed to and the absence of confirmatory language was never a problem. You played hell getting a contact with them, but once the deal was made, they always kept their word. Manchin is a little bitch. I wondered about that. It was possible that he would have taken a position at the convention if Hillary had elected to contest the nomination, but truth to tell, I seriously doubt it. Manchin is not a stand up guy. Over the years you get a sense of who you can trust, and who will lie to you. Manchin fits in the latter category.

  66. Apparently Nia-Malika Henderson thinks referring to Wig Wam as “new much better John Edwards” is high praise. How much better than John Edwards would one have to be to rise to the level of tolerable?

Of course Henderson, who has written tweets and articles slamming Hillary, doesn’t think she or Jeb Bush can even hold a candle to Warren. It’s pretty hard to take Hinderson seriously, however, because of the anti-Hillary bias and poor judgement she has exhibited in the past.

Bill Maher addressed the Paris terror attack on Wednesday night’s broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC. Maher said “it’s like Groundhog Day, except if the Groundhog kept getting his head cut off.”

“Hundreds of millions” of Muslims “support an attack like this,
    ” Maher said.

“This has to stop, and unfortunately, a lot of the liberals, who are my tribe, I am a proud liberal,” Maher said.

“He’s about to turn on you, so,” Kimmel said to the applauding audience.

“No, I’m not turning on them,” Maher said. “I’m asking them to turn toward the truth as I have been for quite a while. I’m the liberal in this debate. I’m for free speech. To be a liberal, you have to stand up for liberal principles. It’s not my fault that the part of the world that is most against liberal principles is the Muslim part of the world.”

“There have been studies. We have facts on this. Treatment of women. They studied 130 different countries. 17 of the bottom 20 were Muslim countries. In 10 Muslim countries, you can get the death penalty just for being gay. They chop heads off in the square in Mecca. Well, Mecca is their Vatican City. If they were chopping the heads off of Catholic gay people, wouldn’t there be a bigger outcry among liberals? I’d ask you,” Maher noted.

Maher noted that not every Muslim is a terrorist, but that many in the Muslim world cheer the actions of terrorists:

We have to stop saying when something like this that happened in Paris today, we have to stop saying, well, we should not insult a great religion. First of all, there are no great religions. They’re all stupid and dangerous. And we should insult them and we should be able to insult whatever we want. That is what free speech is like.

There are certain people in the world who want wafers on free speech. Kim Jong-un in North Korea says you cannot make jokes about our country, and there’s a lot of Muslim people in the world. I know most Muslim people would not have carried out an attack like this. But here’s the important point. Hundreds of millions of them support an attack like this. They applaud an attack like this. What they say is, we don’t approve of violence, but you know what, when you make fun of the prophet, all bets are off.

That is main stream in the Muslim world that when you make fun of the prophet, all bets are off. You get what’s coming to you. It’s also main stream that if you leave the religion you get what’s coming to you, which is death. Not in every Muslim country in majority numbers, but this is a problem in the world that we have to stand up to,” Maher said.

Transcript of Maher discussing the Paris attack below:

JIMMY KIMMEL, HOST: A terrible thing happened today in Paris.

    BILL MAHER: Yes. Tell them.

KIMMEL: People were killed. I know a lot of people are on vacation so maybe they don’t know what’s going on.

MAHER: You’re the host so you have to tell them the bad news.

KIMMEL: The bad news is cartoonists, journalists, some other people, a police officer were killed in Paris.

MAHER: This was really big sh*t.

KIMMEL: Yes, especially in our business in particular. Especially in your business in particular.

MAHER: Right. And we have to not avoid who did this. Who did this, Jimmy?

KIMMEL: Well, we presume, and I think it’s safe —

MAHER: No, no, it’s not a presume. No, no. It’s Muslim terrorists.

    KIMMEL: Yes, Muslim terrorists.

MAHER: This happens way too frequently. It’s like Groundhog Day, except if the Groundhog kept getting his head cut off. And let’s also give some credit to this newspaper. This was a satirical newspaper in Paris. These guys have the balls of the Eiffel Tower. Their balls were bigger than Gérard Depardieu, because they kept doing it.

KIMMEL:Their were firebombed, their offices were firebombed.

    MAHER: Absolutely.

KIMMEL: They continued. The editor said he would rather die than change with his right to free speech.

MAHER: For the crime of being satirists, for the crime of drawing cartoons. This has to stop, and unfortunately, a lot of the liberals, who are my tribe, I am a proud liberal

KIMMEL: He’s about to turn on you, so.

MAHER: No, I’m not turning on them, I’m asking them to turn toward the truth as I have been for quite a while. I’m the liberal in this debate. I’m for free speech. To be a liberal, you have to stand up for liberal principles. It’s not my fault that the part of the world that is most against liberal principles is the Muslim part of the world.

There have been studies. I’d ask you.

So to bring it home to us, because we are are satirists, and I’m a satirist who deals with this subject particularly, it’s kind of scary, that some people say you cannot make a joke. That’s off-limits. We saw this with Kim Jong-un…

KIMMEL: You really think hundreds of millions of Muslim support this?

MAHER: Absolutely. That is main stream in the Muslim world that when you make fun of the prophet, all bets are off. You get what’s coming to you. It’s also main stream that if you leave the religion you get what’s coming to you, which is death. Not in every Muslim country in majority numbers, but this is a problem in the world that we have to stand up to.

And again, I’m the liberal in this debate. I was brought up in a liberal family. The reason we were liberals is because we were against oppression. I was a little kid when my father told us, we’re with Kennedy and against the Southern Governors who stand in the doorways and don’t let black kids go to school. And all my life I’ve been for people who have been the downtrodden, the oppressed, the minorities. I’ve been for blacks, gays, women, Mexicans, the bully, whoever it is.

New York Times Reports On Muslim Proselytizing During Charlie Hebdo Attack, Then Deletes It

When Islamic terrorists expressly tell their victims why they’re being attacked, our mainstream media will do anything to cover it up. They’ll change the subject, they’ll blame the victims… they’ll even stealth-edit* their own copy.

Here’s the latest example of the New York Times censoring itself to avoid offending Muslims after an act of Islamic terror. This morning, BenK at Ace of Spades quoted an NYT story by Liz Alderman titled “Survivors Retrace a Scene of Horror at Charlie Hebdo.” Take note of these two paragraphs from that story:

Sigolène Vinson, a freelancer who had decided to come in that morning to take part in the meeting, thought she would be killed when one of the men approached her.

Instead, she told French news media, the man said, “I’m not going to kill you because you’re a woman, we don’t kill women, but you must convert to Islam, read the Quran and cover yourself,” she recalled.

I was intrigued by this quote, and it seemed worth exploring, so I went to the NYT story to quote it. But guess what?

    Here’s what it says now:

Sigolène Vinson, a freelance journalist who had come in that morning to take part in the meeting, said that when the shooting started, she thought she would be killed.

Ms. Vinson said in an interview that she dropped to the floor and crawled down the hall to hide behind a partition, but one of the gunmen spotted her and grabbed her by the arm, pointing his gun at her head. Instead of pulling the trigger, though, he told her she would not be killed because she was a woman.

“Don’t be afraid, calm down, I won’t kill you,” the gunman told her in a steady voice, with a calm look in his eyes, she recalled. “You are a woman. But think about what you’re doing. It’s not right.”

Nothing about telling her to convert to Islam. Nothing about telling her to read the Quran. Nothing about telling her to cover her face.

Nothing about the very reason these animals did this.

So, imagine yourself as an NYT editor for a moment, if you can withstand the nausea. Why would you specifically take out the part about the Islamic terrorist proselytizing for Islam in the middle of the terrorist attack? Why delete this woman’s account of being threatened at gunpoint and being told to convert to Islam?

That’s easy. Because you’re one of America’s moral, ethical, and intellectual betters, and you don’t want it to be true. Your reporter hastily left that inconvenient truth in her story by accident, so you airbrushed it out, without any acknowledgment, to preserve the narrative. You turned it into, “Hey, maybe these guys aren’t so bad after all. They didn’t kill the women, right? Let’s not be too hasty.”

    Because that’s your job.

The New York Times is garbage.

  71. Lots of activity (at least six explosions) at the Jewish supermarket as well. This might be a coordinated attack on both hostage sites by the French police.

  72. Update III: In France the latest Muslim killers have been killed. Both Muslim killer brothers have been killed and their hostage freed alive. Also the killers in the Jewish grocery have been killed. Reports are that their hostages have been freed also but nothing has been confirmed.

  73. Is Howard Dean Really this Damn Stupid?
    —–
No. He would never have gotten to where he is if he was THAT stupid.

He is, however, that ideological—which means blind to reality.

The question then becomes to what end is he so WILLFULLY blind?

The one thing most people do not know about him is he is tied closely to Wall Street.

Wall Street wants a true global market place.

And to that end they deplore nationalism

And they are dismissive of terrorism

Because they believe it can be bought off

Just as long as it does not scare the horses.

Fear, after all, is bad for markets.

New York Times Reports On Muslim Proselytizing During Charlie Hebdo Attack, Then Deletes It

    ———
This is congruent with what Sharyl describes.

The editing out of any and all facts that contradict the pre determined narrative which they use to control public opinion.

What they write goes out to hundreds of newspapers across the country and becomes equivalent to cannon law.

To paraphrase Cicero, there is not one media narrative for Florida, one narrative for Washington, etc. but one narrative for the entire nation which begins and ends with the New York cabal that Sharyl describes in her book.

She goes on to describe the frustration which competent reporters feel in being micromanaged in some instances, censored in others when they try to bring what Paul Harvey called “the rest of the story” to the attention of the public, so that consistent with the premise of democracy which is an informed vote. An informed public is the last thing in the world that the elites want. What they want is indoctrinated fools who they can control and manipulate to ends which are contrary to the public interest.

  75. After the surrender ceremonies aboard the battleship Missouri (it should have been Enterprise, but Truman was from Missoui) in Tokyo Bay, Doug out Doug MacArthur retired to write his memoirs. Five years later, war broke out on the Korean Peninsula, and he was called back into service. Old generals do die, but first they get called back into active duty.

Mindful of that example, and given a track record of success in implementing Obamacare, if the New York Times is to be believed, would it be too much to ask that Secretary Sebelius be called back by Obama to manage the growing terrorist threat which has flummoxed both the messiah and his main henchman Holder.

With respect to the latter, it is easy to understand why he has always been a day late and a dollar short. The sewers of Paris hold a unique fascination to Holder, like old Home Week, and its easy for a feller to get distracted. For once the hissing he hears is not from the American People, but from members of his own family. Beyond that he hasn’t the guts to have an honest discussion about . . . . terrorism, save to extend the protections of the Constitution to those who aim to kill us, and unleashing the flotsam and jestsome of Gitmo into the world, on the naive assumption that they have been rehabilitated.

  76. The growing Balkanization of this country is the direct result of the political strategy of the Democrat Party under Obama, and most likely Hillary as well, which explains why she is unwilling to break from Obama, and speak convincingly to the larger interests of the nation as a whole. The strategy is as follows:

    1. first, divide the electorate into what the federalist papers called “factions”, e.g. blacks, latinos, single women, students, feminists, environmentalists, unions, hedge fund managers etc. which are a direct threat to representative government and puts the party in a position where it can bribe people with their own money.

    2. second, make these factions feel vulnerable and threatened, and then creating policies that address those real or imaginary threats. (Note: this explains why Travon Martin, Ferguson, etc. became national issues. It is why Sharpton, a race baiter and extortionist of the lowest order has a program on MSNBC and is the White House point man on race.)

    3. third, cobble together a national constituency based on the narrowly defined interests of these factions which is sufficient to put 270 electoral votes on the board. Those who do not fall into one of those factions get zippo, and end up sucking bilge water, and paying to for those bribes.

    4. fourth, how different from the political strategy of JFK which focused on national destiny, and a belief that the goal of any strategy which is worthy of the name legitimate is that ALL boats must rise with the tide.

    5. fifth, this strategy is vulnerable on two fronts: first, it assumes that the interests of those within each faction are paramount and that the members have no overarching interests other than those which their pollsters have defined. Second, it assumes that the non favored factions and the public at large will sit still while government robs Peter to pay Paul.

The Republican Party lost the last three elections because it could not articulate an effective message and speak to the broader interests of all Americans coherently. There are those within the party who are trying to turn that around, like Ted Cruz, but he is fighting the RINO and his Wall Street backers. Therefore, I seriously doubt that the Republican Party can counter this strategy effectively, and prevent the decline and demise of this nation.

Dick Morris is more optimistic than I am. He can afford to be, whereas I cannot.

    http://www.dickmorris.com/beat-obamas-strategy-dick-morris-tv-lunch-alert/?utm_source=dmreports&utm_medium=dmreports&utm_campaign=dmreports

  77. 2. second, make these factions feel vulnerable and threatened, and then creating policies that address those real or imaginary threats. It is why Sharpton, a race baiter and extortionist of the lowest order has a program on MSNBC and is the White House point man on race.)
    ——–
When the Mafia does this, and stirs the pot, it is called a protection racket.

  78. The point being: if the problem exists and the party merely addresses it, that is a perfectly legitimate function.

But when the party sends in agent procateurs to pour gasoline on the problem, the line has been crossed.

Likewise, when a billionaire gives the maximum contribution now permitted by the Republican generated cromulus, does anyone int their right mind believes that nothing is expected in return? Is it just that these jamokes want to feel important and rub shoulders and behave like groupies to these disreputable politicians like Obama? Or are they making an investment?

This is why I say the federal government is corrupt to the core.

  79. But when the party sends in agent procateurs to pour gasoline on the problem, the line has been crossed.
    ————-
They did the exact same thing with Fast and Furious, if you will recall.

  80. In Fast and Furious, Obama determined that he did not have the votes needed to pass gun control legislation, so he leaned on gun dealers in border states to sell guns to suspicious characters for the ostensible purpose of tracing them as they passed into the Mexican drug gangs. But there was no chain of custody–which would have been sine qua non if the real intent was that. The real intent was to create enough violence to engender a public demand for gun control.

In political terms, this is what is referred to as a “Reichstag Fire”.

  81. Looking around the web, there is much talk of the cartoons and the satirical paper. As Lu said above, the satirical cartoons are not the issue. Charlie Hebdo has published such satire about the Christian faith, the Jewish faith, as well as other groups. It wasn’t Jews, Christians, gays, feminists or any other group about which the paper has written who committed these murders. It was Muslims.

The writers from Charlie Hebdo were the victims here. And, the victim blaming needs to stop. The people who were responsible for the deaths would not have committed these murders had they, the murderers, not been rabid believers in Islam. That was the defining factor. CNN is referring to them as “French Terrorists”. They didn’t commit the murders because they were French.

  82. When a journalist is young in years, they play the game hoping to have a career. As they enter middle age, they have the responsibilities of marriage, children, a house, to contend with, and do not want to rock the boat at work. And as they approach retirement they become risk adverse and wait in great anticipation for the day when they can get out with their money.

Doesn’t leave much time for being a journalist, now does it? Better to say nice things to the political class and your bosses rather than speak truth to power. But surely they must know in their hearts that they are not journalists as all, but poseurs.

Source confirms Romney said today at a meeting that he is weighing a 2016 campaign

  85. Mitt to 30 donors including Durkin, Nabab: “Everybody in here can go tell your friends that I’m considering a run,”

  86. MoonOnPluto, we wish Mitt Romney would go away and never come back. He lost an election that was his to win. Instead of fighting Obama firmly he dithered and played “Obama is a nice guy” politics. Mitt should go away. Except…

We hope those reports are accurate that Mitt has decided to run. That’s because if Mitt does run and Christie runs (the likelihood of Christie running increases if Mitt runs) then Jeb will have a fight on his hands to become the top squish. America deserves better than Jeb.

According to the reports Ann Romney is on board for a run. Just like mama Bush who did not want Jeb to run it seems Ann has now changed her mind:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/01/09/romney-tells-donors-he-is-considering-2016-campaign/

Romney’s wife, Ann, had sounded adamant in public comments last year that she did not want him to run for president in 2016. “Done. Completely,” she said in October when asked about the prospect of another presidential campaign. “Not only Mitt and I are done, but the kids are done. Done. Done. Done.”

But Romney told donors on Friday that Ann had changed her mind, according to a person in the room.

“Mitt said that Ann was ‘very encouraging,’ but that the boys are split,” this person said.

Romney’s remarks Friday immediately electrified the Republican donor world, and set phones ringing across the country.

“What he has said to me before is, ‘I am preserving my options.’ What he is now saying is, ‘I am seriously considering a run,’” noted Bobbie Kilberg, a top GOP fundraiser who bundled millions for Romney’s 2012 bid. “And he said that in a room with 30 people. That is a different degree of intensity.”

“What that says to me that Mitt understands that if he is going to get into this race, he needs to get into it the very near future,” Kilberg added.

Before any of these donors gives Mitt a penny they should ask him what he will do about RomneyCare as a political problem.

  87. wbboei,

You frequently make reference to these “elites” who have all these really stupid plans for us. Who are they?

One would think that they should be outed and the results of their meddling addressed to them. Are they even Americans?

Looking at Obama’s “unitemized” campaign contributions that made up about 1/3 of his totals, one would really have doubts.

  88. The hub-bub behind the news is that these attacks were supposed to be several of many. So, is this kind of like a big failed terror attack?

  89. And what else I just do not get is where are these people getting all this time and these resources to go around killing other people? Why don’t they have to get a job and work for a living like I have to? When it comes down to it, are all these religious zealots just a bunch of criminals?

    wbboei,

You frequently make reference to these “elites” who have all these really stupid plans for us. Who are they?

    ———-
    1. Justice Frankfurter, one our our greatest jurists, told us there was such a group.

    2. Walter Cronkite confirmed it, saying that I am afraid there are elites—the captains of finance and commerce who so manipulate democracy that they control democracy–those were his exact words.

    3. Professor Sheldon Wolin and Chris Matthews have said the same thing, describing our system of government as inverted totalitarianism and managed democracy—and big media is in on it. They describe the culprit as Wall Street.

    4. General Smedley Butler USMC former commandant of the Marine Corps who won the Medal of Honor in China during the Boxer Rebellion of ’05 in his subsequent “War is a Racket” Speech spoke of how the banking houses like Brown Brothers Harriman—owned by Averill Hariman’s father, and similar interests controlled by Prescott Bush et al ran our foreign policy between the wars, and sent the marines in to protect their interests.

    5. The Princeton Banker who was special assistant to Walter Riston of Citibank added more information. I blogged here about his experiences with Skull and Bones, etc.–and I have forgotten most of it now–the rituals those secret societies use often times embarrassing rituals to make sure secrets are kept for a lifetime–arranged marriages, etc.—cabals exactly like the one Sharyl alludes to in her book that control the media narrative. He told me that there are 100 families in the United States who are equally divided between the two parties who control our politics. Then there are another 100 who have influenced. Not surprisingly these same families have made tremendous fortunes over the past 30 years while the middle class stagnated.

    6. Soros who speaks for the Rothschilde family was the architect of the Obama campaign and presidency. The issues Obama has been pushing from climate change to open borders to drug liberalization to the destruction of sovereignty culminating in world government and the new Constitution that Cass Sunstein has been working on in secret to create a new economic union are or have been on his website. He has been explicit that he wants to bring down the United States, move to an international currency, curtail the wasteful habits of the middle class, etc. He and his partner in crime Chairman Moe.

(Note: Saudi Arabia was also a promoter of Obama, they got him into Harvard Law School despite mediocre grades–the Royal family wrote a letter on his behalf and they have 2 endowment chairs at Harvard. As a result, he got in, became editor of the Law Review, was pretty much a no show and never wrote an article in that journal, which every other editor has done since the beginning.)

Judge Learned Hand alluded to this in one of his speeches. He said the kingdom of God will not be at hand when the last King is strangled or the last member of the Poliburo is poisoned. He said that we may not like authority, but it is preferable to the alternative which is anarchy. In the end, final authority must reside somewhere.

Being a devotee of the Constitution my view is that final authority should reside not with some elite group but with the American People. The bond that linked the elites to the American People over the past 200 years has been severed. Today, 50% of Wall Streets returns come from overseas, they have become “citizens of the world” and “rootless cosmopolitans” rather than Americans. Their interests and ours no longer coincide.

Consistent with this premise Bush 43 tried to negotiate a North American Union with the Mexican President Vicente Fox. Lou Dobbs was blowing the whistle on this before CNN kicked him off their network–because they are part of it. The tragedy of 9/11 stopped that effort dead in its tracks. Nevertheless under Obama those efforts have resume, and if JEB Bush wins the presidency–or even Christie or Romney who are also Wall Street agents, this will happen.

  91. Correction: Professor Sheldon Wolin and Chris HEDGES.

Shame on me for saying Chris Matthews. I would never quote him as an authoritative source on anything, except perhaps on Tourettes syndrome.

American journalists have nothing to fear from the kind of attack that hit the offices of Charlie Hebdo. Because they are and always have been  congenitally too afraid to do anything that might provoke it.

Mainstream American journalists back down or water down the truth every day so as not to offend somebody or some group on everything  from Washington politics and policy to the events in Ferguson and protests in New York.  And it’s most prevalent everyday on cable news.

  94. Admin: an apt description of the Obama Administration in all its dysfunctionality:

“theatrical appellations conceal the most mediocre and mendacious political leadership of modern times.”

    http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2015/01/09/endgame/#more-41366

Western Europe is awash with Jihadi fighters returned from the wars. “An estimated 1,600 come from just three of the U.S.’s closest allies in Europe—the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. Passport holders from those nations do not need visas to enter the U.S.”

The potential for a domestic attack has led the UK to convene COBRA — not to fight GI Joe — COBRA happens to be an acronym for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A, from which emergencies are normally managed.

But the although the initials suggest that we are watching a superhero battle between good and evil, the reality is that these theatrical appellations conceal the most mediocre and mendacious political leadership of modern times.

The two suspects cornered in a building are sending a message with their unyielding violence that the political establishment has failed to understand. Multiculturalism is dead. Not because the Europeans have rejected it, but because the Muslims have.

A friend of mine asked “is this all our mighty civilization has come to? Candles, flowers and hashtags?”

“For some,” I answered, “that would be bingo, bingo and bingo.”

  96. I’m running way behind on the H44 posts and HRC news (before Christmas), but am delighted to find this:

    Shadowfax January 7, 2015 at 4:09 pm

    (1) I read all your posts and … (2) I don’t think telling our personal stories on the blog will change anyone’s mind here…. (3) As a single parent, I can’t afford to lose my job.

    (4) …women who work as ‘icing on the cake’, second income for their family, and women who are supporting their families on their own, do look for job security and health insurance over the freedom to make higher wages in a more unstable job situation. (5) This does not mean that women value what they do less (6) nor do they appreciate making less money then men on average. (7) If more men were single parents, supporting their children…maybe then the fight for equal wages would be heard.

    (1) Thank you for your attention and thank you for telling me that. Several bloggers here have said they scroll by my posts; since I don’t often get reactions to the more pointed posts, I assume nobody reads them. So I’m glad to have an audience of at least 1.

    (2) You may be right about this, but the personal stories are instructive to me and I appreciate them: They go into my mental database on the subject of gender economics.

    (3) There is indeed a danger to publishing one’s own sob story, and your point about possibly losing your job as a single parent is part of the analysis and conclusions I make in this essay I am currently preparing to post here.

However, my own personal story about gender economics is (a) from the standpoint of a man who is thus not a victim of any prejudicial treatment; (b) not an employee but an employer, of several thousand people, and thus I am free of any fear of retribution and am actually in a position to have some effect; (c) also from the standpoint of a socialist — and, remember, women’s issues and feminism have been an integral vector of socialist thinking for nearly a century (no macho can be a socialist).

But my experience is Euro-centric, where socialism has peaked. Even right-wing parties in Europe do not question the value of the underlying socialist safety net. And this has a powerful effect on the lives of women that can serve as a beacon for women in America.

    (4) Yes, I see you understood that point well and you re-express it very well. I will make the point again in my upcoming post.

    (5) Absolutely correct. From what I see, in fact, women value their work (in terms of quality, at least) more than men. This has an upside and a downside, though.

    (6) In my upcoming post, I make the point that women don’t really care about making less money, for the reason you mention in (4). That’s my Euro-centrism showing again, and is probably different in anti-socialist America.

    (7) I agree with you totally here. Evidence of this is the following example:

Women in France and Germany have the possibility of taking two years off from work for child-raising (paid by Social Security) and have their jobs waiting for them when they come back. Now, this possibility is being extended to men. On the face of it, that looks like a good thing for men. But actually, the idea is to take the onus of child rearing off the woman and give it to the man, so it is an even better deal for women.

That’s the way socialism advances: step by step, the little guy and the downtrodden (which includes women) get protected and nourished. When do we get to equality? That depends on what equality you want; but however you look at it, there are a million miles to travel in the US, in terms of overall mindset and basic institutions.

I can’t say for certain, but you may find statistics showing that women’s “average pay” is still about at the same level in Europe as in the US. My point will be that you can find justifiable income differences at the individual, not the social level of a person’s abilities and desires: who wants to do what, how well they do it, how much money they want or need (ambition).

In my experience with individual European women, whatever the overall statistics say, women seem to be content with the status quo of today — and I attribute that attitude to the advances of the socialist movement over the last 40 years and more.

  97. The French Socialist model:

    http://ace.mu.nu/archives/354276.php

Landmark Paris synagogue closes on Shabbat for first time since World War II

That’s the headline, but the real one should be something like, “Heirs of Hitler Impose Will On France.”

Not since the Nazis occupied France has the Grand Synagogue been closed for Shabbat services.

Yet just a few weeks ago the unelected bureaucrats who rule Europe emboldened Hamas by taking them off the terror lists.

Winston Churchill once famously said, “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last.”

The crocodile is getting hungrier and hungrier. What is Europe going to do when they run out of Jews?

France is a “no go” zone until Europe learns appeasement is not an answer and that the Socialist model is disgusting no matter how appetizing some try to make it appear.

Yes, I have heard these things are so and they seem to be an aristocracy that has become disconnected and dysfunctional. That is the problem with trans-generational wealth. The people controlling it do not have the where-with-all to produce it.

What I am seeing as a middle class American is insane. What do they think will happen after they suck all the wealth from the middle class? Is their plan to have the masses annihilate each other? What makes them think they will not be identified and end up the ones annihilated? Foolish, foolish aristocrats. They cannot learn the lessons of the past. It is the middle class that protects their existence. I would guess a few of them realize that and are getting nervous.

The financial market is currently operating with stocks priced 30-40% over what is generally stable for the revenues they produce. This was done under the pretext that their revenues would catch up. Like borrowing from the future (Obamanomics). Well that is not happening and the outlook for 2015 is poor. Similarly, the housing market is priced higher than what the consumers can afford based on their salaries. I am guessing 30-50%. I know our local market better than the national one. There are 250 forclosures per week in the county I live in. That makes up about 30% of total sales. The banks are floating the losses to keep prices inflated.

How is this system sustainable and who will lose?

  99. I would like to be one of the first to welcome another hedge fund manager limousine liberal and crony capitalist Tom Steyne to the wonderful world of managed democracy and inverted totalitarianism otherwise known as Congress. No, he’s not there quite yet, but with billions of his own money in the game, and the corrupt political system we have, I ask you seriously, how can he possibly lose? On the way up, Tom was known to operate from behind the scene, sending millions to Washington to promote political causes that alienated voters but captured his fancy and not just in is home state, but here no less in Washington. He alone is committed to saving the planet, lest the generations fail. Someone asked this billionaire, why are you not content to be . . . just a billionaire? Or, why do you feel this compulsion to meddle directly in other people’s lives? Or, do you really think you can outdo a boxer who has given us a generation of kibbles and bits. Like the sultan of swat, Tom took a mighty swing and the crack of the bat sounded like this: I am at a loss to know what to do with myself. The problem I have is existential. It ain’t about saving the planet at all–not really, any more than Zuckerberg, another greaseball with money is about doing what is right. Rather, my dilemma is this: what do you do when you have it all, and find that having it all is not enough. I have tried psychiatrists, spiritualists etc. and no one has given me a persuasive answer. So I decided I would take a spin at being a senator and make the world anew in my own image. After all, my billions and hedge fund background make me ideally suited to understand and address to plight of the common man, wherever in the world he resides.

to the heady world of joys and rigors of running for the senate seat vacated by the boxer who vows to go on fighting, fighting, and yes, in case you did not hear me the first time fighting for what the cause she believes in which are vague enough to keep her on the gravy train, while keeping the seat warm for Tom Steyn of hedge fund fame and notoriety.

  100. As you can see, I have had just about enough of these self serving opportunists.

And neery a leader among them.

So Tom says . . . I have a vision for a better America, etc.

    Gag me.

  101. Yes, I have heard these things are so and they seem to be an aristocracy that has become disconnected and dysfunctional. That is the problem with trans-generational wealth. The people controlling it do not have the where-with-all to produce it.
    ———
The quest for a global market place is not new. It is the nature of all empires—to expand markets and to find the cheapest sources of labor. Rome did this after Carthage was conquered, production of food stuffs moved off shore to lower cost venues, and the soldier farmer yeoman who was the backbone of Rome was eradicated and joined the ranks of the underclass.

In our case, the constraining force was the Soviet Union. It occupied or controlled a large part of the world’s land mass, and the same was true of China. The capitalists could not penetrate that screen. Then, with the fall of the Soviet Union, the adoption of capitalism by China, and the advent of the internet a new world marketplace became possible.

Francis Fukayama, a scholar in residence at Johns Hopkins and friend of Dr Z wrote a book called “The End of History” which posited that ideological conflict was passe and the future belonged to markets. That, in turn, set in motion a new rush for empires–and markets across the world. And low cost manufacturing which left the middle class holding the bag.

The resurgence of radical islam is an unpleasant reminder to those who see the world as their oyster that human beings are not widgets, culture and religion count and it will be a slow business perfecting this model of their dreams. The naivetee of this assumption is best expressed by that line in the movie Full Metal Jacket, uttered by a marine corps bird colonel, as they gather around the graves of villagers who were suspected of conspiring with Americans:

“Behind every gook, there is an American just dying to get out.”

As to the dysfunction, the Wall Street Journal had an editorial this morning which hit upon a related point–namely the platitude that this nation of ours has an unlimited capacity to absorb and assimilate all races across the world, and turn them into Americans. The rebuttal point was this: that may have been true in the past, but not today when the elites have lost faith in western values, and when our culture is no longer coherent and unified but fragmented by multiculturalism.

  102. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/bill-maher-islam-paris-attacks-114147.html?hp=r4_3

“What we’ve said all along and have been called bigots for it, is when there’s this many bad apples, there’s something wrong with the orchard,” Maher said on his HBO program “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Maher, who has been vocally critical of Islam as well as other organized religions, faced a backlash in October after he got into a heated spat with actor Ben Affleck over Islamic terrorism. However, the late-night host doubled down on his criticism on Friday with guest Salman Rushdie.

“There should be a distinction, because obviously the vast majority of Muslims would never do anything like this, but they share bad ideas,” Maher said.

Rushdie said “not entirely,” but expressed his own criticisms.

“Don’t come to me for a defense of Islam,” Rushdie said, adding that there were Muslims all over France who stood up to terrorism this week.

Maher said there has been a theme of “no joking” during his show’s absence over the winter. He noted both Sony’s “The Interview” — which Maher noted he appears in briefly — and North Korea as well as the “a—holes” in Paris who shot and killed journalists at Charlie Hebdo.

“They are, as everyone suspected, Amish,” Maher joked, referring to the attackers.

“As a jokester, I just have to say the world just needs to stand as one, quote the immortal Dick Cheney, say, ‘Go f—- yourself.’”

Maher praised the “incredible courage” of the French satirical outlet for its plans to continue with its publication next week of an expected 1 million copies.

“Compare that to Sony who pulled up ‘The Interview’ after one online threat,” he added.

    ———

“USC journalism professor Marc Cooper wondered in print: if the current number of murdered cartoonists, staffers, and cops weren’t enough to justify the NYT doing its job, then just how many murder victims would be sufficient? –

Apparently, this question cooked off the NYT’s executive editor Dean Baquet, because Mr. Baquet went on Facebook to literally call Mr. Cooper an a*shole.

I actually understand – but don’t actually approve – why Baquet called Cooper an a*shole (and why Baquet is trying to justify his unprofessional behavior). Cooper essentially called Baquet a disgrace to his profession and explicitly suggested that his work ethic was more suited for an insurance agency. Given that Dean Baquet is giving an excellent impression of being a petulant man-child generally, I imagine that that last charge in particular stung. And when one’s response to criticism by one’s superiors is to punch the wall, just imagine how one must feel when an outsider does it…

Baquet never actually answered Cooper’s question. How many dead people will need to be murdered before the New York Times stops being a pacifier for its readership, and starts telling – and showing them – the things that they need to know?

Lastly: this specific flap would not have happened if the New York Times would simply insist that its staff only post to social media (during work hours, and/or in a professional capacity) in a respectful and adult matter. In case anybody hasn’t mentioned it to Dean Baquet: that means you don’t call people a*sholes in your official capacity of NYT’s Executive Editor.”

    Hack attack on terrorist websites?

    About time boyz!

  106. The only way the editors, reporters and commentators at NYTimes may change their tune is if they themselves are the target of a terrorist attack that killed several of their reporters and editors. Even so, that’s still a maybe unless their publisher and owner also happened to be there during an attack. Shared denial is an extremely tenacious form of mental illness.

  107. Tony Stark, the survivors at the Times would still call it “workplace violence” by “activists”.

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blumer/2015/01/10/cnns-christiane-amanpour-calls-charlie-hebdo-murderers-activists

GREG GUTFELD: It’s good to see all these vocal free speech supporters, many of whom were silent when [Ayaan] Hirsi Ali, Condoleezza Rice and others were kept from speaking on campuses. I suppose you only express solidarity when it’s cool, and there’s a neat hashtag.

But as we know, one aids terror by blocking speech through the fabrication of offense. We must fight evil, but what happens when the fight is labeled as “bigoted” by the media, our campuses, our leaders? Terror wins.

And so CNN’s Christiane Amanpour calls terrorists “activists.” I’m really not kidding.

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR (in a broadcast on the day of the massacre, perhaps even shortly after it took place, given that CNN considered it “Breaking News”): On this day, these activists found their targets, and their targets were journalists. This was a clear attack on the freedom of expression, on the press, and on satire.

    GUTFELD: What?

Anyway, and editors worrying more about right-wing reaction to terror than terror itself.

NICHOLAS KRISTOF (at MSNBC on Wednesday, Clip 1): I think they should have been more sensitive. I don’t believe in gratuitously offending people.

NICHOLAS KRISTOF (at MSNBC on Wednesday, Clip 2): We have to be really, really careful not to respond to the extraordinary intolerance of these jihadis with our own intolerance.

DAVID ROTHKOPF (at MSNBC on Wednesday, Clip 3): I think we have to be just as worried about the reaction to the attack from nationalists, from right-wingers, from people who have sought to drive this wedge, as it was described earlier, between the Islamic communities and the mainstream communities in Europe.

GUTFELD: I get it. The enemy is pre-ordained. It’s us. Which means Howard Dean is right. This is a cult, a cult of apologists. But Dean is also right when he says this is not a religious issue, which means, if I don’t see Islam when I fight terror, then you cannot see Islamophobia when I fight it.

What should we see instead? Again, a death cult, one that needs no understanding, just eradication. It would be nice for moderate Muslims to help, but if they don’t, we can handle it, it’s nothing personal, Muslims. Just step aside.

Finally, where did this cult learn to punish language? From the Quran? From Al Qaeda? How about Harvard, and our modern cult of hate speech activists, who see language as violence, creating speech codes with penalties? Seeing “activists” silence critics so easily must make them drool with envy.

The NY Times obviously learned the wrong lessons from George Orwell’s 1984.

  111. What will France do when it runs out of Jews to sacrifice?

Feed crocodiles in hopes they are the last to be eaten. I believe Churchill said something to that effect.
The main Synagogue in France did not hold service today, hasn’t closed since the Nazis.
    Good work Brownie…

  112. Last night and the night before I saw two movies that I recommend to everyone’s attention for their timeliness:

    The first is “Timbuktu”.

This is a documentary of Jihadist activities in Mali before the French intervention. It shows them taking a hostage, moving into town, debating Jihad with an Imam who is powerless to influence them; it shows what their demands are, and how they apply justice.

Watching the movie, I thought it was pretty good cinematography as a whole, and some of the “actors” were good and others not so much. But in fact, it is indeed a documentary and there is no play-acting at all: It is all real life with the actual people speaking in their native tongues (but some French and English), and is subtitled throughout. When people are whipped, they’re not faking their screams; when they die, they’re gone.

The only mystery is, How did the moviemaker manage to get all this on film? Why did the Jihadists allow it?

A very instructive movie. I hope you can see it in the US.

  113. The other movie is excellent moviemaking and timely for me because of my current posts about women in the marketplace. It’s an American movie called “A Most Violent Year” and some of you may have seen it already.

It’s a story about an honest businessman in a corrupt profession who wants to make a high-stakes move but is caught up in a criminal suit, loses his financiers, and is losing money too because somebody is stealing his goods (the violence).

Part of the problem, we find out, is also the businessman’s cool-headed, less-than-honest wife, who not so incidentally keeps the company’s books. However, she also provides the solution: she’s the kingpin from beginning to end.

So, the theme is honesty. Considering that I feel that women are fundamentally more honest than men, the movie gives me a lot to think about.

The highly detailed screenplay works. Everything fits together like a giant jigsaw puzzle, to the point where I can’t believe it’s not a true story. If it’s fiction, a huge bravo.

I’m surprised you haven’t told us what it’s like in France since this attack. What is the general mood towards the killings?

Do people fear more attacks, are they marching in the streets?

  115. A little interesting – this Yahoo text:
Washington (AFP) – President Barack Obama will not join other world leaders at Sunday’s Paris march in tribute to the victims of this week’s Islamist attacks in France, a US official told AFP.
Ever since the bloody shooting that killed 12 people at satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday — followed by separate attacks that left five more people dead — Obama has made repeated declarations in support of America’s “oldest ally.”
But he will not join other leaders including British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, all set to attend the march.
More than a million people were expected to go.
“I want the people of France to know that the United States stands with you today, stands with you tomorrow,” Obama said Friday, following three days of bloodshed.
On Thursday, Obama wrote the Gallic slogan “Vive la France!” in a condolence book during a visit to the embassy in Washington.

I’m surprised you haven’t told us what it’s like in France since this attack.

Actually, there isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said here. There’s a lighted sign “Paris est Charlie written across the top of the Arc de Triomphe and there is a virulent reaction from some — a mosque has been burned, there are killings. People are mostly disheartened by the loss of individuals who stood for something: It’s something like the reaction to the Sharon Tate murders — a famous person (and pregnant woman) who wasn’t doing anybody any harm.

The sympathy from abroad is appreciated, including Obama’s remarks and offer of help. I noticed that there was some negative reaction to O’s remarks here; but the offer of help is appreciated, because once the investigative process leads beyond French borders, the CIA and FBI have a lot of resources (other than money) that would help finding those who organized the attack, those who infiltrated the weapons into the country and so forth.

  118. I like this Seal. 🙂

Freshman U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT) served our country for over 20 years with the Navy and as a member of the elite SEAL Team 6. When he got to Washington, it didn’t take him long to see the glaring problem facing western nations.

Zinke told The Washington Free Beacon that the Obama administration’s mishandling of terrorist threats is putting our security at risk.

Yeah, it wasn’t the gassing or the photo that turned me off on demonstrations; it was the fact that the rallies were pointless. Nobody who mattered paid any attention to them and the war went on to its dreadful conclusion.

But you’re right, I still have fond memories of the festive atmosphere despite everyone’s teary eyes.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/antonio-villaraigosa-barbara-boxer-senate-seat-114148.html

Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says he’s thinking about running for the Senate seat from which Barbara Boxer is retiring.

“Too many Californians are struggling to make ends meet, pay the bills, and send their kids to college,” Villaraigosa, a 61-year-old Democrat, said in a statement today. “The urgency of the needs of the people of this great state have convinced me to seriously consider looking at running for California’s open Senate seat.”

Villaraigosa is one of the first potential candidates to express interest in running. But there are certain to be others. State Attorney General Kamala Harris, Lieutenant Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Rep. Jackie Speier have all been mentioned as possible candidates.

Earlier in the week, Villiaraigosa’s successor, current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, said he wouldn’t be entering the contest.

Democrats are heavily favored to retain the seat Boxer, a 74-year-old progressive, has held for more than two decades.

The world leaders looked impressive standing side by side, arms locked in solidarity, determined to face the enemies of free speech, unafraid and unapologetic. No wonder Barack or Holder didn’t attend. There was no room for bamboozling, for being “flexible”, for excusing the heinous terrorist act, for being a publicity whore, or a chicken shit. The rally wasn’t for the waffling, the wimpy, the weak-willed. Obama wouldn’t have fit in. Neither would Holder.

Eric Holder, U.S. officials no-shows at Paris unity rally

But it appears he didn’t show his face at the emotional “Je Suis Charlie” rally that occurred afterward. Holder did pose for a photo after the morning summit alongside Hollande and leaders from dozens of other nations.

Holder, 63, was in Paris at the time of the extraordinary gathering to attend a pre-march terrorism summit convened by French President Francois Hollande.

But it appears he didn’t show his face at the emotional “Je Suis Charlie” rally that occurred afterward.

Holder did pose for a photo after the morning summit alongside Hollande and leaders from dozens of other nations.

But when the group moved to join more than a million chanting spectators in the Place de la Republique, Holder dropped out of sight.

Neither the White House or the Department of Justice had an immediate response to questions about Holder’s whereabouts during the emotional march through downtown Paris — a show of strength and defiance after last week’s bloody burst of terror.

But the lack of U.S. leadership was glaringly apparent as Hollande linked arms with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron, and dozens of other world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

What will France do when it runs out of Jews to sacrifice?

    ______

Well deserved criticism. France doesn’t have a great record when it comes to its Jewish population.

    ______________

“The attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris as Jews were making their Shabbat purchases, may well prove to be the tipping point; larger numbers yet, of Jews with deep roots in France will leave the country, refusing to remain in a place that has become so inhospitable to them.

In July, Muslim protestors attempted to storm two synagogues in Paris. With a substantial Muslim population, far-right National Front party, and widespread anti-Israel sentiment among French leftists, France is seeing many Jews emigrate. But others are digging their heels in, deepening their Jewish identity. With the largest Jewish population in the EU, many of France’s Jews will remain.

But this time, they will not cower. If anything, recent anti-Semitism has provoked Jews to affirm and augment their Jewish identity. Many already have, and many more will likely pull their children out of public schools and enroll them in Jewish schools. And many more will gravitate to the Jewish community, taking strength in their unity. In this repost from July, lubavitch.com takes a closer look at how Jews are responding. ”

Obama and America shamefully skip Paris march against terror

The U.S. fails to join the whole world in standing by France

    NEW YORK DAILY NEWS /

    Sunday, January 11, 2015, 7:42 PM

Displaying powerful symbolic unity, in fitting and proper testament to the defense of civilization, more than 40 world leaders linked arms to lead the mass march in Paris in resolve against Islamist terror.

The United States of America, Barack Obama, President, was inexcusably absent from one of the most critical turning points in the war between radical Islam and the West since 9/11.

No Obama. No Joe Biden. No John Kerry from State. No Chuck Hagel or Ashton Carter from Defense. Not even Eric Holder from Justice, who happened to have been in Paris.

Yet there was British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Jordan’s King Abdullah and so many others — most extraordinarily including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

All linked arms with French President Francoise Hollande, leader of the country where terrorists killed 17 in a deliberate attack on democratic values, leader of one of America’s most stalwart allies in the war on terror.

Still worse, Obama’s abdication of leadership reflects a larger presidential failure to convey the gravity of the Charlie Hebdo attack, even if the substance of his anti-terror policy remains strong.

On Friday, shortly after the assault reached its fatal climax, Obama appeared at a campaign-style rally in Tennessee to tout economic good news. He opened with happy talk, then devoted 310 perfunctory words to the events in Paris. Two hours later, he delivered more happy talk at a second Tennessee rally.

On Saturday, he opened his weekly radio address: “Hi, everybody. About a year ago, I promised that 2014 would be a breakthrough year for America. And this week, we got more evidence to back that up.”

Bypassing Paris, the President closed, “Thanks, everybody, and have a great weekend.”

Not in Paris. Not in the U.S. Not in the world under siege.

How OPEC Weaponized the Price of Oil Against U.S. Drillers

If there ever was doubt about the strategy of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, its wealthiest members are putting that issue to rest.

Representatives of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait stressed a dozen times in the past six weeks that the group won’t curb output to halt the biggest drop in crude since 2008. Qatar’s estimate for the global oversupply is among the biggest of any producing country. These countries actually want — and are achieving — further price declines as part of an attempt to hasten cutbacks by U.S. shale drillers, according to Barclays Plc and Commerzbank AG.

Crude fell 48 percent last year and has declined 35 percent since OPEC affirmed its output target on Nov. 27. That decision, while squeezing revenues for OPEC members in 2015, aims at preserving their market share for years to come.

The faster you bring the price down, the quicker you will have a response from U.S. production — that is the expectation and the hope,” said Jamie Webster, an analyst at consultants IHS Inc. in Washington. “I cannot recall a time when several members were actively pushing the price down in both word and deed.” [snip]

OPEC won’t reverse course even if oil prices fall as low as $20 a barrel or non-OPEC countries offer to help with production cuts, Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali Al-Naimi said in an interview with the Middle East Economic Survey on Dec. 21. The kingdom may even bolster output if non-OPEC nations do so, he said. The global oversupply is 2 million barrels a day, or 6.7 percent of OPEC output, Qatar estimates.

The group will stand by its decision not to cut output even if prices fall and wait at least three months before considering an emergency meeting, U.A.E. Energy Minister Suhail Al-Mazrouei said Dec. 14. He said clearing the surplus may take years, Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National reported Jan. 6. [snip]

“It seems in their interest to have a swift fall rather than a slow, grinding fall,” Miswin Mahesh, an analyst at Barclays in London, said by phone. “A swift drop in prices would bring more changes to non-OPEC supply,” while a more gradual decline would let companies in other oil nations “merge and become more efficient.”

This is the story of a corrupt monopoly destroying the competitition. After the competition is destroyed the prices will rise fast enough and high enough to mitigate the losses incurred during the destruction of the competitors.

How OPEC Weaponized the Price of Oil Against U.S. Drillers

There’s another point to consider: The fall in oil prices has precipitated the Russian economy into a tailspin.

The Russians are squealing that the Saudis and other big producers are upping the supply intentionally to destabilize Russia, and there is at least one reason to think the Russians are right: The EU, led by Germany, is closing the spigot on Russian gas and oil and scouting for other suppliers.

This is the EU’s answer to the Russian “invasion” of Ukraine; and it is quite possible, giving the timing, that the Saudis were acting at the Merkel’s behest. The Germans can get their gas from other sources. Such as Azerbaijan. The Azeri pipeline runs through the Crimea, but neither the pipe nor the gas it carries belongs to Russia. If they try to cut it off, it’s an act of war. Putin is playing a zero-sum game here.

  137. I was pretty sure that in many states tuition to community college was already essentially free. Still researching as I have time to get a better idea about this. Tony, I would think that “mouse balls” in this case would be better than no balls at all. lol

S, it is unbelievable isn’t it – the conspicuous absence of the US, President at the Paris rally? I know we shouldn’t be shocked or surprised. Obama has responded with all the warmth of a sociopath to other tragic and outrageous situations from the beginning of his administration. Given his willingness to give radical Islam a pass time and again, his negligence in this case is even less surprising. That said, Obama’s lack of interest the Paris incident which was an attack on free speech one of the founding principles of this country, is a damn outrage.

A few years ago, I heard a mental health expert on PTSD speak about his experience with survivors of the OK City bombing. He was present when Bill Clinton spoke at the service and afterwards with individuals in attendance . He said that the impact Bill had was amazing, and that the compassion and concern he expressed were so genuine and real, his presence had a healing effect on the community.

This guy was blown away by Bill’s response. It would be nice to again have a president who really gave a damn about ALL Americans, about American values and principles, and one who could and would actually represent the country in a positive manner to the rest of the world.

  138. The progressive response to the terror in France will be not to close the borders but to curtail our freedom. It mirrors their response to gun violence which is to blame political enemies who never committed the act, coddle the criminal and take away the guns of the law abiding citizens. By their lights, the heinous acts are a useful excuse for the progressive to destroy our constitutional system, loot our personal wealth, undermine our security and abolish our liberty. The decision, therefore, is binary: do nothing and succumb to their lies and their bread and circuses; or confront the problem per stirpes–by the roots. Put differently, if it comes down to a choice between their security, their wealth, their censorship and their liberty vs ours—it must be theirs, not ours, that is sacrificed on the alter of expediency. Otherwise we will face the collapse of western civilization–which as Warren Sayet points out is their ultimate goal. For the first element of proof consider the response by this Marxist administration, which goes far beyond the no show antics of Holder–and the response of the big media co-conspirators thereto. Let him who hath eyes to see see. Or else raise the white flag and get it over with.
    —————–

“There seems to be no coordinated push for more internet surveillance just yet,” says Gigaom, but that is clearly where things are trending. “Increased internet surveillance and tighter border checks are ‘urgently’ needed to foil jihadist attacks of the sort that rocked Paris this week, European, US and Canadian security ministers say.” First you admit the Jihadis on the grounds they are harmless. When they prove otherwise you respond by treating everyone as dangerous.

They said it was “essential” that major internet providers cooperate with governments in closely monitoring and, if necessary, removing online content “that aims to incite hatred and terror”.

They also want to “step up the detection and screening of travel movements of European nationals” leaving or entering the EU’s external borders, and modify Europe’s internal Schengen freedom-of-movement rules to widen information sharing and subject suspect passengers to greater checks.

There is about these preparations a sense of curious unreality, as if we were raising giant walls against a monster lurking in the dark with no name, or blacking out great cities against the arrival of bomber fleets from an unknown — nay an unknowable — nation. Bombers upon which not a single searchlight may be permitted to shine, whose identities are never to be speculated on — an omission made more curious by the supposed mental character of our strife, as if we were determined to persuade others by sewing our mouths shut; or resolved to defend Western liberty and culture by abolishing it.

There’s a saying that all enemies eventually come to resemble each other. Perhaps with this in mind U2 wrote:

Choose your enemies carefully ’cause they will define you
Make them interesting ’cause in some ways they will mind you
They’re not there in the beginning but when your story ends
Gonna last with you longer than your friend

Perhaps in our case we are not permitted to see the enemy because he’s not really a stranger, but familiar, even a creditor to our kings. But what am I saying? We ain’t got no enemies. Just partners for peace.

  139. The fall in oil prices has precipitated the Russian economy into a tailspin.
    ——–
I guess we need to find that reset button—again. If anyone thinks this is a good thing and that Russian will go quietly into the night, we have an empty bed waiting for him at Bellevue Hospital and a team of trained helpers in white lab coats who will be glad to help him make it through the long dark night of his delusions.

  140. The progressive must lie to us, and ultimately to himself that he does not control the chess board, and that sometimes, crass casaulty obstructs the sun, the rain and their utopian delusions, their plan to remake human nature and advance the evolutionary process. When this effort fails, trust me, they will turn to robots–such is the nature of the Orwellian mind. What is funny, but not funny about all this, is the house organ of progressive doctrine has been 100% wrong in predicting EVERY major catastrophy or would be catastrophe. The bad things they forsaw never came about that the good things they claimed would never happen did. This is what happens when you have people who have a utopian view of the world, and are unwilling to accept feedback from reality. In the final analysis, what is the failure of the Obama Administration to show respect for the loss of life in France–what is it but a refusal to accept feedback from reality that maybe–just maybe the world as it is does not conform to their ideology, therefore coercive means must be adopted–and artificial crises—like Fast and Furious created in order to advance their agenda. To attend this funeral, would contradict their narrative that Muslim is a religion of peace, and their determined effort to scrub from out language and hide from our eyes, the mountain of contrary evidence.

  141. To be a modern liberal, i.e. progressive, one must hold certain views as holy writ. Among those views, none is more important–more central to the belief system, that a firm, unwavering, dogmatic and fanatical belief in multi culturalism. It trumps experience and justifies an Orwellian order. It has marched its way through the institutions and at has paralyze our ability to confront Islam. The current giberish is that this event in Paris will make moderate Muslims rise up and confront radical ones. In other words, the mensheviks will conquer the Bolshevek. Such is the tripe we are hearing today, as we behold the smoke and ashes of reality.
    ————

    Multicultural Suicide
    Victor Davis Hanson

Fueling the Western paralysis in dealing with radical Islam is the late 20th century doctrine of multiculturalism.
Multiculturalism is one of those buzzwords that does not mean what it should. The ancient and generic Western study of many cultures is not multiculturalism. Rather, the trendy term promotes non-Western cultures to a status equal with or superior to Western culture largely to fulfill contemporary political agendas.

On college campuses, multiculturalism not so much manifests itself in the worthy interest in Chinese literature, Persian history, or hieroglyphics, but rather has become more a therapeutic exercise of exaggerating Western sins while ignoring non-Western pathologies to attract those who see themselves in some way as not part of the dominant culture.

It is a deductive ideology that starts with a premise of Western fault and then makes evidence fit the paradigm. It is ironic that only Western culture is self-critical and since antiquity far more interested than other civilizations in empirically investigating the culture of the other. It is no accident that Europeans and Americans take on their own racism, sexism, and tribalism in a way that is not true of China, Nigeria or Mexico. Parody, satire, and caricature are not Chinese, African, or Arab words.

A multicultural approach to the conquest of Mexico usually does not investigate the tragedy of the collision between 16th-century imperial Spain and the Aztec Empire. More often it renders the conquest as melodrama between a mostly noble indigenous people slaughtered by a mostly toxic European Christian culture, acting true to its imperialistic and colonialist traditions and values.

In other words, there is little attention given to Aztec imperialism, colonialism, slavery, human sacrifice, and cannibalism, but rather a great deal of emphasis on Aztec sophisticated time-reckoning, monumental building skills, and social stratification. To explain the miraculous defeat of the huge Mexican empire by a few rag-tag, greedy conquistadors, discussion would not entail the innate savagery of the Aztecs that drove neighboring indigenous tribes to ally themselves with Cortés. Much less would multiculturalism dare ask why the Aztecs did not deploy an expeditionary force to Barcelona, or outfit their soldiers with metal breastplates, harquebuses, and steel swords, or at least equip their defenders with artillery, crossbows, and mines.

For the multiculturalist, the sins of the non-West are mostly ignored or attributed to Western influence, while those of the West are peculiar to Western civilization. In terms of the challenge of radical Islam, multiculturalism manifests itself in the abstract with the notion that Islamists are simply the fundamentalist counterparts to any other religion. Islamic extremists are no different from Christian extremists, as the isolated examples of David Koresh or the Rev. Jim Jones are cited ad nauseam as the morally and numerically equivalent bookends to thousands of radical Islamic terrorist acts that plague the world each month. We are not to assess other religions by any absolute standard, given that such judgmentalism would inevitably be prejudiced by endemic Western privilege. There is nothing in the Sermon on the Mount that differs much from what is found in the Koran. And on and on and on.

In the concrete, multiculturalism seeks to use language and politics to mask reality. The slaughter at Ford Hood becomes “workplace violence,” not a case of a radical Islamist, Major Nidal Hasan, screaming “Allahu Akbar” as he butchered the innocent. After the Paris violence, the administration envisions a “Summit on Countering Violent Extremism,” apparently in reaction to Buddhists who are filming beheadings, skinheads storming Paris media offices, and lone-wolf anti-abortionists who slaughtered the innocent in Australia, Canada, and France.

The likes of James Clapper and John Brennan assure us of absurdities such as the Muslim Brotherhood being a largely secular organization or jihad as little more than a personal religious journey. Terrorism is reduced to man-caused violence and the effort to combat it is little more than an “overseas contingency operation.” The head of NASA in surreal fashion boasts that one of his primary missions for the hallowed agency is to promote appreciation of Muslim science and accomplishments through outreach to Islam. The president blames an obscure film-maker for causing the deaths of Americans in Benghazi (when in reality, it was a preplanned Al-Qaeda affiliate hit) — and then Obama makes it a two-fer: he can both ignore the politically incorrect task of faulting radical Islam and score politically correct points by chastising a supposedly right-wing bigot for a crime he did not foster.

What is the ultimate political purpose of multiculturalism? It certainly has contemporary utility, in bolstering the spirits of minority groups at home and the aggrieved abroad by stating that their own unhappiness, or failure to achieve what they think they deservedly should have, was due to some deep-seated Western racism, class bias, homophobia, or sexism otherwise not found in their own particular superior cultural pedigree that was unduly smothered by the West.

For the useful idiot, multiculturalism is supposedly aimed at ecumenicalism and hopes to diminish difference by inclusiveness and non-judgmentalism. But mostly it is a narcissistic fit, in which the multiculturalist offers a cheap rationalization of non-Western pathologies, and thereby anoints himself both the moral superior to his own less critical Western peers and, in condescending fashion, the self-appointed advocate of the mostly incapable non-Westerner.

Multiculturalism is contrary to human nature. Supposedly if Muslims understand that Westerners do not associate an epidemic of global terrorism and suicide bombing with Islam, then perhaps Muslims — seeing concession as magnanimity to be reciprocated — will appreciate such outreach and help to mitigate the violence, all the more so if they also sense that they share with the more radical among them at least some legitimate gripes against the West.

So multiculturalism is the twin of appeasement. Once Americans and Europeans declare all cultures as equal, those hostile to the West should logically desist from their aggression, in gratitude to the good will and introspection of liberal Westerners. Apologizing for the Bush war on terror, promising to close down Guantanamo, deriding the war in Iraq, reminding the world of the president’s Islamic family roots — all that is supposed to persuade the Hasans, Tsarnaevs, and Kouachis in the West that we see no differences between their cultural pedigrees and the Western paradigm they have chosen to emigrate to and at least superficially embrace. Thus the violence should cease.

At its worst, multiculturalism becomes a cheap tool in careerist fashion to both bash the West and simultaneously offer oneself as a necessary intermediary to rectify Western sins, whether as a -studies professor in the university, an activist journalist or politician, or some sort of community or social organizer.

It is always helpful to turn to Al Sharpton for an illustration of the bastardized form of almost any contemporary fad, and thus here is what he once formulated as the multicultural critique of the West: “White folks was in the caves while we [blacks] was building empires. … We built pyramids before Donald Trump ever knew what architecture was … we taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.” Note that Sharpton was not calling for new mathematics academies in the inner city to reclaim lost African arts of superior computation. Note also that Sharpton himself did not dream up these supposed non-Western superior African achievements.

In the psychological sense, multiculturalism also serves as a way of dealing with affluent Western guilt: one does not have to put his kids in an inner-city school, visit the barrio to shop, or invite undocumented aliens over for dinner, when one can both enjoy a largely affluent and apartheid existence in the concrete, while praising the noble Other in the abstract. In the European context, the liberal French or British elite welcomes in the Muslim Other for low-wage jobs and to feed his multicultural sensitivities — only to outsource the immigrants to outlander suburbs that devolve into no-go zones even for the police. In the Clinton context, when Hilary lectures us that we must understand and even empathize with the minds of our enemies, we assume that Chelsea is not on the barricades trying to fathom what drives the violent Other.

Ultimately multiculturalism is incoherent, claiming that all cultures are equal, but then (privately) disturbed that Iranians behead gays or Saudi women cannot drive a car — or radical Muslims prefer to live in Europe than among the believers in Yemen. Yet even multiculturalism cannot quite equate honor killings with the glass ceiling.

Radical Muslims both emigrate to the West and yet, once there, seek through Sharia law to destroy the very foundations of what made the West attractive to them in the first place. Clean water, advanced medicine, entitlement support and free speech ultimately cannot exist in a society that routinely assassinates the outspoken satirist. In a less dramatic sense, the entire open-border, La Raza movement is based on the anomaly that the United States is such an inhospitable and racist place, while Mexico is such a benevolent homeland, that 11 million risk their lives to reach the former and abandon the latter.
In the end what is multiculturalism? A global neurosis. For its elite architects, it is a psychological tic, whose loud professions square the circle of enjoying guilt-free the material comfort that only the West can provide. For the rest, multiculturalism is a sort of fraud, a mechanism to blame something that one secretly desires in lieu of addressing the causes of personal or collective self-induced misery.

For Muslims of the Middle East, there is a clear pathway to economic prosperity and a secure lifestyle; countries as diverse as South Korea, Japan, and Chile are proof of it. Within wide parameters, success only asks adherence to a mostly free market, some sort of freedom of expression, religious tolerance, a separation of science from orthodoxy, the rule of law, and consensual constitutional government — along with a cultural ethos of rough parity between the sexes, merit-based evaluation instead of tribal favors, and tolerance for ethnic and religious minorities.

Fail that, and human misery follows of the now familiar Middle East sort, in turn followed by the tired blame that the Jews, the Americans, the Europeans, or the West caused these self-generated pathologies.

If the Western establishment were truly moral, it would reject multiculturalism as a deductive, anti-empirical, and illiberal creed. It would demand that critics abroad first put their own house in order before blaming others for their own failures, and remind Western elites that their multicultural fantasies are cheap nostrums designed to deal with their own neuroses.
Finally, it would also not welcome in newcomers who seek to destroy the very institutions that make the West so unlike the homelands they have voted with their feet to utterly abandon.

Other than the symbolism of a woman president, which I gather is a huge thing for you, what specific policies do you believe Hillary would advance which are different from those of Obama? She has not been forthcoming on that subject, other than platitudes, so tell me for those of us who are more interested in the future of this country than gender politics what specific, tangible, measurable, verifiable benefit do you see? Forget about the Republican candidate, and forget about what happened twenty years ago when Bill was president–that is ancient history. Give me your answer in terms of one thing we seem to agree on, namely that the current system is controlled by Wall Street and the American People are sucking hind tit. So, give me something concrete to get excited about. If you can. In 2008 I was called upon to answer that question, I did, but today, I am lost for an answer.

  143. Last night as I cruised around the net to see the response to kooks and fellow kooks about the incident in Paris, there was criticism about the rally. The criticism was based on the assertion that the attack in Nigeria – which at that time, I believe, was not thought to have resulted in the number of casualties revealed today – was overshadowed by the Paris incident and given more concern, in part, because the victims in France were white.

Implicit in the article in the Atlantic, referenced also at Kos, was defense of Barack’s failure to attend the rally or even send a representative. What those critical of the rally fail to see, or more likely, fail to support is the free speech issue. The rally in France was in direct response to the attack on and desire by radical Islam to subvert free speech.

But, it’s easier to scream RAAAACIST than to look at all the facts – especially when the facts contradict your position.

    Not posting links.

  144. That’s not the worst of it. My sister-in-law who lives in Spain sent me a link to some blogger who claimed that the videos showing that police officer lying on the ground and shot by one of those turds was faked. I told her politely that that was in the same category of idiots claiming that the moon landings were faked because there no stars that can be seen in the photographs of the Apollo missions. There are just so many mentally ill people preying on weak minds.
