Two Terrorists, Two Cars, In This The Golden Age Of Hope And Change

Update: The American government was given a heads up by the Russians in 2011 on Tamerlan. Yet the brother got American citizenship on September 11, 2012. No, um, background checks? Anyone gets citizenship? Obama sycophants only give excuses. Obama has more questions to answer on his policy and actions of his government:

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said Sunday that the dead suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was “very probably” trained by Islamists on a 2012 trip to Russia.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) is asking why the FBI did not scrutinize Tamerlan Tsarnaev more closely when he returned from that six-month journey, which reportedly included a leg in Chechnya.

We’ll ask again: Why did the younger brother get citizenship on September 11, 2012 (yup the day American territory was attacked in Benghazi) even though his brother was red flagged by the Russians as a potential terrorist?

As we have been tracking in the comments, there are now more arrests in Boston bombing case. These arrests might confirm the reports from the Daily Mirror:

“Boston bombers: FBI hunting 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Police believe the pair were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack

[snip]

A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”

There’s plenty of time for golfing, but not for investigations and making sure investigations are required and carried out. As we have written so many times since 2007, Obama will get us all killed.

—————————————————————–

When Barack Obama’s too clever campaign raised the flag of HOPE and CHANGE in 2008 we retorted that hope was not a strategy. We warned that the poisonous drug of false hope was dangerous. We understood “hope” was a powerful drug and that is why “Flim flam artists target the young with excitement and hoopla, and hope.” Change??? We repeatedly asked “change to what”? “What Kind of Change?” and “Who Can Best Bring About That Change?”

Hope is not a strategy. All the good will in the world will not stop a bomb from blowing up under your feet. All your peaceful, loving intentions don’t mean a damn when evil grins at you. Bumper stickers of hope on a car fender are not a magical talisman to ward off hate:

“They were alumni of Cambridge Rindge and Latin, one of the oldest public schools in America and latterly one of the most “diverse,” boasting (being the operative word) students from over 80 countries. The Tsarnaev brothers had spent most of their lives in the United States, and lived the diversity dream. They seem to have had a droll wit when it comes to symbolism: Last year, the younger brother took his oath of citizenship and became an American on September 11. And, in their final hours of freedom, they added a cruel bit of mockery to their crimes by carjacking a getaway vehicle with a “Co-exist” bumper sticker. Oh, you must have seen them: I bet David Sirota has one. The “C” is the Islamic crescent, the “O” is the hippy peace sign; the “X” is the Star of David, the “T” is the Christian cross; I think there’s some LGBT, Taoist, and Wiccan stuff in there, too. They’re not mandatory on vehicles in Massachusetts; it just seems that way.

I wonder, when the “Co-exist” car is returned to its owner, whether he or she will keep the bumper sticker in place. One would not expect him to conclude, as the gays of Amsterdam and the Jews of Toulouse and the Christians of Egypt have bleakly done, that if it weren’t for that Islamic crescent you wouldn’t need a bumper sticker at all. But he may perhaps have learned that life is all a bit more complicated than the smiley-face banalities of the multicultists.”

The “Coexist” bumper sticker did not stop the murderous Muslim terrorists. That’s reality, not false hope. This past week while pro-Obama creeps like David Sirota and Matthews O’Tingles hoped the bombers would be proven to be white male right wingers we wrote that if the terrorist bombers of Boston were discovered to be Tea Party members or from the “right wing” we were sure that a Tsunami of condemnations would flow from Republican/conservative/right wing figures and organizations.

Now that the terrorists are proved to once again be Muslims where are the overwhelming condemnations and demonstrations of revulsion from Muslim organizations, countries and individuals? Where? The L.A. Times this past week, on the day after our article was published, published a mopey article about Muslims worried and hoping that the Boston Terrorist Bombers would not be Muslim. Why worry? After September 11, 2001 President George W. Bush mewled about “tolerance” and all sorts of coexisty sweet talk.

Instead of worry Muslims should have prepared for and they should now raise their voices individually, collectively, and organizationally in condemnation of these murderous creeps that were asylumed by America, protected by America, given food by America, given shelter by America, given fine expensive educations and scholarships by America, given freedom by America. The mother of the terrorist Muslim killers repaid America by shoplifting and refusing to believe it is her sons that expressed their gratitude to America by murdering innocents with cookware turned weaponry.

It was gratifying to hear the uncle of the Muslim terrorist killers condemn them as “losers”. The uncle was forceful in his condemnations. The uncle accepted that some people, many people, might hate him because as he said the same family blood flows through his veins. The uncle said they shamed Chechnya. The uncle did not whine about that. The uncle understood and accepted that from vile deeds grow vile consequences even for innocents. The uncle did not blame America. The uncle blamed the two terrorist Muslim creeps.

During our marathon TV watching this past week, we saw an interview with the Muslim terrorist Boston Bombers’ sister and husband conducted with reporters in the hallway outside their apartment. The sister and her husband did not want to be interviewed and stayed behind closed doors. The persistent reporters used their wiles to get answers. The sister was bewildered. The husband answered he never met the terrorist Muslim brothers. The husband said he was not a Muslim and therefore he was rejected, the sister ostracized, and that’s why he never met the brothers or the family. So much for coexistence.

Jihad Will Not Be Wished Away” nor broken by “coexist” bumper stickers. “Hope” in the face of evil is not a strategy. That’s the wrong road. It’s more than time to call out Barack Obama on his hopey baloney and demand a return to reality not flowery words which are a detour from the real world, possibly politically incorrect, change that is needed.

The car with the “coexist” bumper sticker is not the only car of note this week. Another car in the murderous tale of the terrorist Muslim Boston Bombing brothers has to be discussed, not for it’s bumper sticker but for its license plate:

“The two men arrested last night in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings drive a car with the licence plate that reads: ‘Terrorista #1’

The students, named be neighbours by their first names Azmat and Diaz, drive a black BMW 330XI with the personalised plate and a sticker on the back which reads: ‘F*** you, you f****** f****’.

They are thought to be from Kazakhstan and had not been seen since the bombings until last night when their ground floor apartment in New Bedford, MA, was raided by a dozen FBI agents at gunpoint.

One of their girlfriends was also arrested. All three are in their late teens or early 20s.

Their apartment was raised because police say the younger Boston Marathon bombing suspect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, may have lived at their address.

MailOnline has discovered another link – Dzhokhar Tweeted pictures of the car on his Twitter account J_tsar.”

A BMW? Maybe it belongs to Robert Redford who last week released his latest film effort – a star filled tribute in praise of American killers and terrorists so beloved in Hollywood and Obama’s Hyde Park Chicago neighborhood.

Inside the BMW were receipts from a Ralph Lauren store and several parking tickets. These University of Massachusetts students from Kazakhstan lead privileged lives and no doubt will denounce America at the next Occupied Wall Street benefit dinner honoring David Sirota.

With the killing and arrest of the two Muslim terrorist killers we are closing a chapter. But only one chapter. The least interesting of the next pages to be written will be about the personal fate of one loser terrorist. The more important drama of what comes next is in the policy arena. We’ll write about that next.

  1. We posted this comment during the hunt for the killer:

    ——————————-
    The good uncle:

“Oh, I just wish they never existed. I’m wordless. I am wordless. I am wordless. Shocked.” “I’ve just been watching it. I’ve been reading it. People who did that they do not to deserve even existing on this earth. They do not deserve to exist on this earth. That’s what I think.”

“He started telling me about that he’s in Islam. I tell him, ‘Islam’s always been there. You just do your business. Work , go to school be useful, know why you came to America.’ And, I just said, and I’m sorry for my word… I said, ‘You prick.’”

“For people, listen, what can I say? Sympathy, condolences. That I’m with them! And, if some of them are ready to send their curses on me, I’m ready to accept it because I’m associated with these bastards (by blood). What else can I say? What else normal person can say?”

  2. …O’s ‘hope and change’ is now but a footnote and long forgotten…

rarely so i even read or even less agree with Dowdie but she makes some good points in her current article, in fact she essentially agrees although she can’t bring herself to say it, with Romney’s guy in that article I posted yesterday where he goes on to state that HILLARY WAS RIGHT…

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/21/opinion/sunday/dowd-president-obama-is-no-bully-in-the-pulpit.html?hp&_r=0

THE graying man flashing fury in the Rose Garden on behalf of the Newtown families, the grieving man wiping away tears after speaking at the Boston memorial service, is not the same man who glided into office four years ago.

President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston.

Unfortunately, he still has not learned how to govern.

How is it that the president won the argument on gun safety with the public and lost the vote in the Senate? It’s because he doesn’t know how to work the system. And it’s clear now that he doesn’t want to learn, or to even hire some clever people who can tell him how to do it or do it for him.

It’s unbelievable that with 90 percent of Americans on his side, he could get only 54 votes in the Senate. It was a glaring example of his weakness in using leverage to get what he wants. No one on Capitol Hill is scared of him.

Even House Republicans who had no intention of voting for the gun bill marveled privately that the president could not muster 60 votes in a Senate that his party controls.

President Obama thinks he can use emotion to bring pressure on Congress. But that’s not how adults with power respond to things. He chooses not to get down in the weeds and pretend he values the stroking and other little things that matter to lawmakers.

    snip

    *******************************************************

the truth of the matter is O is lazy…he thought he could just waive his wand and his magic and the people he was to govern would just genuflect in obedience and so grateful and in awe of him…

he thought he was so much more than he is…now everyone can see O for what he is…

big talker who reads a teleprompter and often lifts other people’s ideas to claim as his own…if the heat gets too tough, he disappears…and finds some party or sports game to distract him…

  3. Great question that should be posed at the next presser: Why did young men who grew up and studied here as part of our communities and our country resort to such violence?

And then someone in the press corps should hurl out “Duh! He should ask Bill Ayers.”

  6. http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/20/bill-maher-violence-islam-christianity-liberal-bullshit/#ixzz2R34gP9xI

On HBO’s “Real Time” on Friday night, host Bill Maher entertained CSU-San Bernardino professor Brian Levin, director of the Center for Study of Hate and Extremism, who maintained that despite the events in recent days, religious extremism isn’t only a product of Islam.

But Maher took issue with that claim, calling it “liberal bullshit” and said there was no comparison.

“You know what, yeah, yeah,” Maher said. “You know what — that’s liberal bullshit right there … they’re not as dangerous. I mean there’s only one faith, for example, that kills you or wants to kill you if you draw a bad cartoon of the prophet. There’s only one faith that kills you or wants to kill you if you renounce the faith. An ex-Muslim is a very dangerous thing. Talk to Salman Rushdie after the show about Christian versus Islam. So you know, I’m just saying let’s keep it real.

Levin referenced outspoken Islam critic Pamela Geller as an example to refute Maher’s claim. But, Maher argued there was no comparison and denied he was Islamophobic.

I am not an Islamophobe,” Maher replied. “I am a truth lover. All religious are not alike. As many people have pointed out — ‘The Book of Mormon,’ did you see the show? … OK, can you imagine if they did ‘The Book of Islam?’ Could they do that? There’s only one religion that threatens violence and carries it out for things like that. Could they do “The Book of Islam” on Broadway?

Levin said “possibly so,” to which Maher seem dismiss his entire argument going forward.

“You’re wrong about that and you’re wrong about your facts,” Maher said. “Now, obviously, most Muslim people are not terrorists. But ask most Muslim people in the world, if you insult the prophet, do you have what’s coming to you? It’s more than just a fringe element.”

  7. Apology in advance but there is an element of funny here: gunfire injures 2 (not life threatening injuries) at Denver pot rally, 2 suspects. The witnesses can’t remember a thing. 🙂 Cheech and Chong material.

Ian Bay, who was skateboarding through Civic Center Park when shots erupted, said he was listening to music on his headphones when he looked to his right and saw a swarm of hundreds of people running at him.

“I sort of panicked. I thought I was going through an anxiety thing because so many people were coming after me,” he said.

Hysterical. You can’t make this up. 🙂

  8. http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/2011-request-for-information-on-tamerlan-tsarnaev-from-foreign-government

Once the FBI learned the identities of the two brothers today, the FBI reviewed its records and determined that in early 2011, a foreign government asked the FBI for information about Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The request stated that it was based on information that he was a follower of radical Islam and a strong believer, and that he had changed drastically since 2010 as he prepared to leave the United States for travel to the country’s region to join unspecified underground groups.

In response to this 2011 request, the FBI checked U.S. government databases and other information to look for such things as derogatory telephone communications, possible use of online sites associated with the promotion of radical activity, associations with other persons of interest, travel history and plans, and education history. The FBI also interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev and family members. The FBI did not find any terrorism activity, domestic or foreign, and those results were provided to the foreign government in the summer of 2011. The FBI requested but did not receive more specific or additional information from the foreign government.

  9. @ admin

What would Hoover have done? Would they have just closed the file? Another country is stating take a serious look at this guy and we just flip the file and close it. The day of the bombing you would think that there would have been a database filled with these people of questionable repute to review. Instead, the FBI was asking the public for help days after. What gives?

  10. But Maher took issue with that claim, calling it “liberal bullshit” and said there was no comparison.
    ——————-
What is to explain this comment by the fountainhead of Liberal Bullshit Bill Mahr?

Go back to the piece from the Black group which SHV posted the other day, and the motive of Mahr becomes obvious:

“Revisionism becomes the order of the day. Yesterday’s cheerleaders for Obama are now scrambling to find harmless niches of simulated protest from which they can rebuild their resumes as defenders of the people’s interests.”

  11. FBI tracked older brother ‘for FIVE YEARS’ after being told by Moscow of links to Chechen terrorists

One of the brothers suspected of the Boston Marathon bombings had direct contact with Chechen terrorists – and was ‘monitored’ by investigators for five years.

The Mail on Sunday has learned that the FBI put Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, under surveillance after receiving an explicit warning from the Russian intelligence services.

But despite apparently telling his mother that Tamerlan was an ‘extremist’ leader, the FBI eventually discounted the possibility that he was a threat.

  12. Two key Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee will press the Obama administration about the questioning of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev 2011, according to a GOP congressional source.

The FBI investigated Tsarnaev, who died this week after a late-night shoot-out with police, at the request of Russian authorities, according to a senior U.S. official. Tsarnaev and his younger brother Dzhokar, who was taken into custody a day after his brother’s death, are originally from the Caucasus region and immigrated to the United States in the 2000s.

  13. 😆 leave it to the Brits. 😆

The Express UK says what American newspapers are so hesitant to say, in an article entitled, “BARACK OBAMA: THE WEAKEST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY?”:

When the Brits said, “It’s tea time,” President Obama said, “Let’s play 18.”

INEFFECTUAL, invisible, unable to honour pledges and now blamed for letting Gaddafi off the hook. Why Obama’s gone from ‘Yes we can’ to ‘Er, maybe we shouldn’t’

  16. This uber corrupt Associated Press is now putting out the drivel that the US and Israel both see the the same threat emanating from Iran but Israel “tends to have a greater sense of urgency.” The head of AP has stated plainly, openly and unambiguously that he “loves” Obama and this drivel his symptomatic of that disease. The point is, Obama does NOT see the threat emanating from Iran, and if you go back even before his hallucinogenic speech in Cairo to the primaries, he was talking about sitting down with the head of Iran and negotiating, which by the grace of God the Iranians have been unwilling to do, because Lord knows what he would have given them if that magic coming together had ever occurred. The most disappointed that it did not was Immelt because he had it in mind to do business with Iran. I accept just about nothing that emanates from AP because of their known bias, and intention to hide facts critical of Obama. Weasel word: “tends”. Sorry, when a nation is faced with a potential Holocaust, it is more than just a tendency to see the threat for what it is./

  17. It is sanatized crap which they do for Obama, that sucks the blood out of the emotions which are in play here, and gives the reader an entirely false sense of the res gestae. It is so bad, it is practically fiction.

  19. Obama thanks Putin for helping with the Boston incident. We now learn that Russia told his administration to keep an eye on the bomber two years ago, and his administration failed to do so. Ergo now, belatedly, he thanks Putin, hoping that the truth, that he was informed and failed to act, will be suppressed by corrupt media enterprises like the Associated Press, NYT, WashPO. Fortunately, they are not the only game in town, but AP is the worst because its influence is nation wide, ergo when they have a corrupt man at the helm, the damage is greater than the others who are more easily dismissed as elite anti American media.

Boston Marathon aftermath: feds warned by Russia about Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011.
    By: Moe Lane (Diary) | April 20th, 2013 at 04:46 PM | 6

    RESIZE: AAA
Let me just put this FBI press release out there for you. It’s dated April 19, 2013, by the way: this will be important later.

2011 Request for Information on Tamerlan Tsarnaev from Foreign Government

The two individuals believed to be responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday have been positively identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, now deceased, and Dzhokar Tsarnaev, now in custody. These individuals are brothers and residents of Massachusetts. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a legal permanent resident and Dzhokar Tsarnaev is a naturalized U.S. citizen. Charges have not yet been filed against Dzhokar Tsarnaev and he is presumed innocent.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, age 26, was previously designated as Suspect 1, wearing a black hat. Dzhokar A. Tsarnaev, age 19, was designated as Suspect 2, wearing a white hat. Both were born in Kyrgyzstan.

The foreign government which made this request – and whose name the FBI carefully did not mention – was, of course, Russia. That the feds had been aware of the possibility of Islamist terrorism will no doubt startle folks who get all their news from NPR, given that they were being told as recently as Tuesday, April 16th, that the FBI was thinking that domestic right-wing extremists were likely involved:

…but never mind that right now. The important thing is, now we understand just why it was apparently so important to have that information transmitted to Vladimir*. Clearly the Russians are less than impressed with the current administration’s ability to keep track of, and act on, what is actually going on…

    Moe Lane (crosspost)

PS: We will now pause while the same group of people that thought that George W Bush should be held responsible for every hang-nail, paper cut, and unsatisfying bowel movement in Central Asia now explain to us why Barack Obama should not be blamed for a lapse of judgement that helped lead to Boston being bombed, shut down, and subject to a running firefight through the streets.

PPS: I suspect that some people are asking right now, But what could the FBI have done? Well, for a start they could have pulled this information on Monday as part of their preliminary survey of “people of interest” and started showing pictures of said people of interest to witnesses. Or told those “people of interest” to come in. There’s a Boston cop who might still be alive if that had happened; shoot, maybe even Tamerlan Tsarnaev might have lived if he had been usefully panicked just a day or so earlier.

*Hey, who here still thinks that trusting that North Korea can’t lob a missile past, say, Denver is a viable long, mid, or even short-term national security strategy? Anybody? Hello?

  20. – The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings suffered an injury to his throat and may not be able to talk, a federal official told CNN on Saturday, possibly hindering attempts by authorities to question him about a motive in the attack.

    ———–
    I CRY, BULLSHIT!!!

If the murder still has hands, give him a pencil and paper to answer questions.

What kind of nitwits are running the funny farm when they make statements like this, he is hindered………..

    Damn, what idiots…

  21. It is an interesting thing to watch, if you do not care. If you do care, well then it is infuriating.

The left wing agenda is so divorced from reality, that in order to keep it alive, they must suppress all feedback from reality, except that small sliver which confirms their position. 90% of what is happening does not get reported, and people who try to report it are routinely dismissed as either ignorant or malicious. Will the American People ever wake up. At one time yes. Today, nfw. Too dumb to spit. Just remember they elected this guy not just once but twice.

  22. It is interesting to see two mutually exclusive theories emerge on this Boston thing. One is that the two brothers were acting as lone wolves. Bill Jacobsen is talking about that idea. The other theory, which is coming out of London, so it is cannot be filtered by Obamalov’n big media and their corrupt minions, is that they were part of a sleeper cell of 12 people. The article below is of the latter sort. The only thing we can be certain of is that we will not learn the truth from big media if the truth reflects negatively on Obama. They will lie, cheat and steal to protect him, and past is prologue.
    ————————————————————————————————————————
Reports indicate the FBI is searching for a 12-person “sleeper cell” tied to the Boston Marathon bombers.

This is an outworking of the belief that “Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were “specially trained” to carry out their attack.

The UK’s Daily Mirror quoted an anonymous source with knowledge of the investigation:

We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

…Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.

According to the report, “a specialist team of CIA and FBI interrogators was…flown to Boston” on April 20 to “grill wounded Dzhokhar, 19, about the secret group.”

The mother of the Tsarnaev brothers claims her sons are being framed by the FBI.

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/04/21/FBI-Looking-For-Sleeper-Cell-Tied-To-Marathon-Bombers

  23. The coexistance of religious beliefs depends on a separation of church and state. Bush and Obama have been too busy exploiting religion to keep it separate and now we are vulnerable to an aggressor that is imposing governance under the pretext that it is a religion. An aggressive, violent governance.

Too bad we have to find a way to tell them AND our own POTUS.

    No deal.

  24. The default position of the left will be that the two brothers were acting alone. This allows them to blame society rather than jihad. And to blame society is to blame everyone and to blame everyone is to blame no one, as Eric Sevarid once noted. Watch them start pushing that narrative–hard. They cannot go the other way, because they dismiss the idea of terrorism, unless it emanates from those they can label conservative.

  25. Larry is taking off against the soft targets–correction soft headed targets–McCain and Graham, who pretend to lead the loyal opposition to Obama, and too often are lost in the fog of war. Just as we should have been less keen on embracing Muslims, now we must be wary of blaming all of them for the actions of two. McCain and Graham, who is sliding in the polls are of the opposite view. The proposal on the table is whether to extend the constitutional protections of a US citizen to a US citizen who committed an atrocious act—the same protections we extended to Manson and those of his ilk. The differentiating factor here is the possibility that he has information which could lead to further arrests of those who could commit similar acts in the future. As I say, there are two competing theories–lone wolves, in which case the assertion of constitutional rights would seem to present no imminent problem, vs. part of a sleeper cell, based on as yet unaccredited sources, in which case, some would argue that those rights must be balanced against imminent future harm to the community, if the defendant is allowed to lawyer up and assert his right against self incrimination. I think we should proceed cautiously here, because under the pretext of fighting terrorism, Obama and his predecessor have done grave violence to our cherished bill of rights, i.e. freedom of religion, the press, assembly, guns, search and seizure, due process, cruel and unusual punishment, speedy trial, privacy and states rights. This is a variant on the old axiom that hard cases make bad law. I guess I agree with where Larry comes out on this one. Being a believer that the people must be controlled, Obama and many democrats would be willing to throw out the bill of rights entirely, but we should be reluctant to follow them down the rabbit hole. They cannot be trusted.

Boston bombers: FBI hunting 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

There’s plenty of time for golfing, but not for investigations and making sure investigations are required and carried out. As we have written so many times since 2007, Obama will get us all killed.

    —————————————————————–

  28. I have thought from the beginning and still think the Boston bombings were not the sole work of the two brothers.
    My reasons for thinking this:

1- Photos of the two brothers talking on their cell phones, while together. It could have been ignition of the bombs, but more likely, they were talking to someone else, just before the bombings.

2- These brothers were not rocket scientists, the bombs were somewhat sophisticated in their timing and placement, yet, there was no sophistication in their exit strategy.

3- Why no real exit strategy – maybe they were not supposed to exit, maybe they were supposed to die in the process like all the other suicide bombers. Why would a terrorist go to a college party after the bombing, hijack cars and call attention to themselves? These guys were not supposed to live, and now the younger kid could possibly spill some beans on the sleeper cell. That’s my guess.

  29. The man is slipping from the limelight. The marquee man from MSM and Hollywood and Vine is headed for Sunset Boulevard.

Right from the start of his 2008 campaign, the MSM gave Obama the star treatment. He was their main event. …hey, these up and coming young terroist bombers are not stupid…they come to the USA…first get their citizenship…then work the system and get a college education, scholarships, sports. and benefits that taxpayers pay for…and then they decide to blow up Americans…children and all…

but, they don’t “even have one american friend”…

    ******************************************

btw…could barely listen to more than a few words of analysis this morning…

MSNBC should really be taken off the air…I don’t know whow is worse between Melissa Harris Perry and Joan Walsh…you can expect the usual male liberal rationalization and apology from the usual males…and caught a bit of that insufferable David Remmick with Stephanopoulous…the whole panel on msnbc was disgraceful…

these people have jumped the shark…the killer is always right with them…forget over 180 injured people with lost limbs and three dead…and the COST of the manhunt to Boston and federal govt…these idiots overlook all that and go right into creating a “brainwashing” by the older brother defense’ for the suspect that lives…

these freaking people…or one of their family members…(god forbid) need to be on the victim end of these attacks to finally be shaken out of the stupid nonsense that comes out of their out of touch mouths…

I think the one who takes the trophy for being the worse must go to Melissa Perry – she is consistently condescending to citizens of our country and pontificating with total BS…she is laughable…a perfect character for a SNL skit…

calling SNL…you need to develop a totally ‘out of touch’ liberal character based on Melissa Harris Perry…and her panels…call it living on another planet…

  31. …and again on these shows…not one word about the suspect being an O supporter…

as we have said here…had this been a repub, a right winger, a tea party, someone related to a clinton or palin or mccain…these same panels would have been tearing the suspect to shreds and any and all even remotely connected to him…

I cannot stand the dishonesty and hypocrisy that comes out of these people…they twist and lie, an conveniently eliminate facts, to distort the truth…and to fit their agendas…

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a 26-year-old Chechen immigrant, also harbored an increasingly alarming hatred of his adopted country.

“He said in Russian, ‘I don’t like what America is doing,’ ” a Latvian neighbor told The Post yesterday, recalling a chat he had with the Boston bombing suspect, who was killed early yesterday in a shootout with police in Watertown, Mass.

“I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘I don’t like it because they shouldn’t be in Muslim countries.’”

  33. Hi, Big Pinkers and a belated Happy Anniversary.

I couldn’t post for a bit because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to post.

I now know what it is.

I am sick and tired of the whole PC crap and the ACLU better not screw this up with the living Muslim TERRORIST in the Jewish hospital. (Yes, Virginia…there is a God and a just one at that.)

Yes, let’s call this young man..not a KID, but a MAN, what he is…a TERRORIST.

And I say I am sick and tired of the PC crap as the resident lesbian here who HATES my humanity being used as a political football.

I WANT ANSWERS. I want to know why they were granted citizenship when they had been investigated by the FBI. I want to know why the FBI didn’t say not only WHOA to them being granted citizenship, but being granted it on 9/11. That is just too damn coincidental.

I am sick of being afraid of this government. I am more sick of being afraid of our media propagandists and the way they try to twist every event as a means to propogate their political agenda.

I am proud of the citizens of Boston, but also proud of the rest of this country’s citizens who rallied with them.

We the People need to reclaim not just our government, but also the airways. We OWN those, you know. Next time a station is up for license renewal, go there and protest against the bias in their reporting. We need to start getting LOUD about this where it matters…at the dang hearings.

Lastly, I believe our country will remain great inspite of our government and media’s desire for it to be anything but that.

Because I believe in the greatness of We the People. The ones that ran back to help at the Boston marathon. The teachers and principals that lost their lives at Newtown to try and save the children. Our men and women in the armed forces who put themselves in harms way to try and keep us from having to go there. The men and women of the police, fire departments, hospitals etc. who do the extraordinary under the most extraordinary of circumstances.

We the People will wake up and We the People will save our country whether the government likes it or not. We have the power of the vote and we will use it.

Remember this come Nov. of 2014. Most of all, remember this come Nov. 2016. No more “American Idol” POTUS. Let’s get someone in there who has a clue how to govern.

  34. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324874204578436592210910044.html

At the behest of such Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups as the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America, and other self-proclaimed spokesmen for American Muslims, the FBI has bowdlerized its training materials to exclude references to militant Islamism. Does this delicacy infect the FBI’s interrogation group as well?

Will we see another performance like the Army’s after-action report following Maj. Nidal Hasan’s rampage at Fort Hood in November 2009, preceded by his shout “allahu akhbar”—a report that spoke nothing of militant Islam but referred to the incident as “workplace violence”? If tone is set at the top, recall that the Army chief of staff at the time said the most tragic result of Fort Hood would be if it interfered with the Army’s diversity program.

Presumably the investigation into the Boston terror attack will include inquiry into not only the immediate circumstances of the crimes but also who funded Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s months-long sojourn abroad in 2012 and his comfortable life style. Did he have a support network? What training did he, and perhaps his younger brother, receive in the use of weapons? Where did the elder of the two learn to make the suicide vest he reportedly wore? The investigation should include as well a deep dive into Tamerlan’s radicalization, the Islamist references in the brothers’ social media communications, and the jihadist websites they visited.

Will the investigation probe as well the FBI’s own questioning of Tamerlan two years ago at the behest of an unspecified foreign government, presumably Russia, over his involvement with jihadist websites and other activities? Tamerlan Tsarnaev is the fifth person since 9/11 who has participated in terror attacks after questioning by the FBI. He was preceded by Nidal Hasan; drone casualty Anwar al Awlaki; Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad (born Carlos Leon Bledsoe), who murdered an Army recruit in Little Rock in June 2009; and David Coleman Headley, who provided intelligence to the perpetrators of the Mumbai massacre in 2008. That doesn’t count Abdulmutallab, who was the subject of warnings to the CIA that he was a potential terrorist. [snip]

It has been apparent that with al Qaeda unable to mount elaborate attacks like the one it carried out on 9/11, other Islamists have stepped in with smaller and less intricate crimes, but crimes that are nonetheless meant to send a terrorist message. These include Faisal Shahzad, who failed to detonate a device in Times Square in 2010, and would-be subway bomber Najibullah Zazi and his confederates.

Is this, as former CIA Director Michael Hayden put it, the new normal?

There is also cause for concern in the president’s reluctance, soon after the Boston bombing, even to use the “t” word—terrorism—and in his vague musing on Friday about some unspecified agenda of the perpetrators, when by then there was no mystery: the agenda was jihad.

For five years we have heard, principally from those who wield executive power, of a claimed need to make fundamental changes in this country, to change the world’s—particularly the Muslim world’s—perception of us, to press “reset” buttons. We have heard not a word from those sources suggesting any need to understand and confront a totalitarian ideology that has existed since at least the founding of the Muslim Brotherhood in the 1920s.

The ideology has regarded the United States as its principal adversary since the late 1940s, when a Brotherhood principal, Sayid Qutb, visited this country and was aghast at what he saw as its decadence. The first World Trade Center bombing, in 1993, al Qaeda attacks on American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, on the USS Cole in 2000, the 9/11 attacks, and those in the dozen years since—all were fueled by Islamist hatred for the U.S. and its values.

There are Muslim organizations in this country, such as the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, headed by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, that speak out bravely against that totalitarian ideology. They receive no shout-out at presidential speeches; no outreach is extended to them.

One of the Tsarnaev brothers is dead; the other might as well be. But if that is the limit of our concern, there will be others.

Mr. Mukasey served as attorney general of the United States from 2007 to 2009 and as a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York from 1988 to 2006.

  35. What a depressing report!

    Americans ‘snapping’ by the millions

Terrorism. Chaos. Fear of the future. In the age of Obama, America is undergoing a “fundamental transformation” – that much everyone knows.

But what few seem to realize about this transformation is that the sheer stress of living in today’s America is driving tens of millions to the point of illness, depression and self-destruction.

  36. One of the most important things a junior senator can do is control his staff. Where Rubio is concerned, that is not happening, and it is killing him politically. He staked out a controversial position on immigration, that is a given. His initial motive was legitimate, but when he was called upon to defend it, he became rather slippery, and the comparison of what he said about it initially vs. what he says about it now is stark. But it is his staff, who are actively conspiring with Schumer and Obama to vilify opponents of the legislation in his own party who pose the greatest risk to his political future. The best way to stop this treason dead in its tracks is to fire his chief of staff, and the legislative assistants who are vilifying conservative opponents to his legislation. Otherwise, Obama will succeed in his open and notorious strategy to divide and conquer the republicans on the eve of the 2014 elections. Come on Marco–fire your chief of staff, and put somebody in there you can trust to play the game of politics within the markers and not conspire with the enemy. If you fail to do that, you will be toast.

    I Have Seen Shameful Things

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | April 22nd

    I am an immigration squish.

There are jobs Americans won’t do at the existing price point. We have a real need in this country for unskilled workers who will pick domestic crops and do jobs Americans will not do for a low wage. I know a number of people who came here illegally who are harder workers than me, who love this country, and who just want a job.

More specifically, I know a number of illegal immigrants — a few of whom I represented as a lawyer — who have no intention of staying in the United States, but work here and send money back home. Most of them wind up staying because of the difficulty of coming back into the country. Contrary to the opinions of many, it is not an easy thing to come and go as an illegal alien.

I think we need a program that is easy to administer, easy to apply for, and easy to use for individuals to come and go as they please during seasons of work to do jobs Americans won’t do at the price point these immigrants would.

Saying all of that, I am deeply, deeply disturbed by the games being played by pro-immigration advocates on the right, including staff in Senator Marco Rubio’s office, Grover Norquist, and others.

They are attacking other conservatives who disagree with them as racists, slavery supporters, bigots, haters, baby killers, un-Christian, etc. They are waging a coordinated attack between Senator Rubio’s office and others against conservative stalwarts like the Heritage Foundation and Jim DeMint.

They are proposing a plan that thus far appears to be unworkable, is wholly too complicated, and is a distraction from issues that we could all agree on in the name of getting a plan acceptable to Democrats. In the process, their attacks on conservatives designed to intimidate, browbeat, and silence them opens old wounds and does exactly what the Democrats hoped to do — divide the right and play directly to the fears of Hispanic voters who have for so long seen political leaders of both parties demagogue the issue.

Many of the people who want an immigration solution frankly could care less about hispanic voters. They see this as an issue the GOP has to get right on and they will do whatever it takes to get right on the issue. They are playing political games. Seeing self-styled conservatives and libertarians trying to pass any legislation that is labeled “comprehensive” should always be a red flag.

I have seen friends paint others as racists, as sympathizers to abortion advocates, and as haters all to try to steam roll through their preferred policy solution. I have seen good conservative organizations attacked and lumped in with fringe groups. I have seen mainstream groups characterized as fringe. I have seen people whore their faith in the name of immigration reform.

I have seen shameful things. What will be the cost paid in these attacks? These are not liberals attacking, but other members of the center-right. They now claim that maybe Boston would not have happened had this bill been passed or, at worst, at least with this bill millions of new immigrations coming into the country will be known instead of unknown. I’m sure the dead eight year old and his family will be consoled by that.

I want an immigration reform plan that will solve the problems we now have with unskilled workers who come here illegally. I am not sure that the proposed plan will do that. What I do know is that conservatives should be deeply skeptical of Republicans who call upstanding conservatives racists and baby killers while allying themselves with the race baiters and baby killers of the left on this issue.

The damage Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Bush staffers did in 2005-2006 has not been undone. They called many Republicans bigots and racists who were not, but who stood in the way of their comprehensive approach to immigration. That created a great deal of distrust and animosity on this issue. Instead of trying to understand the legitimate concerns of those who opposed their plan, they tarred and feathered them all.

Without ever trying to heal those wounds, those behind this latest push are tearing open new wounds.

I think Senator Marco Rubio wants to do the right thing. I think he set before himself a good, but unpopular task. He should be commended for trying, at least, a Nixon goes to China moment on immigration. But I think the actions of some members of his staff coordinating attacks on solid conservatives is undermining the cause he and I both believe in. Ultimately, they are playing right into the hands of President Obama and the Democrats.

Farrakhan son is part-time Harvey cop but hasn’t worked a shift in 4 years

The Nation of Islam styles him its “Supreme Captain” — a potential successor to his controversial father, Minister Louis Farrakhan.

But when he’s working for the Harvey Police Department, Mustapha Farrakhan is just a regular part-time cop.

If, that is, he’s actually working for the Harvey Police Department.

Farrakhan, 52, certainly has a police badge from the crime-plagued south suburb.

He drives an unmarked Harvey Police squad car, complete with flashing police lights, and parks it outside his home at night.

And he’s been registered with the state as a gun-carrying Harvey cop since 2006.

But he hasn’t worked a single shift in more than four years, according to state records. If he’s ever made an arrest, Harvey’s police chief is unwilling to discuss it.

Officer Farrakhan does, though, appear to do “police work” off-duty, more than a dozen miles outside Harvey city limits, in Chicago, where he uses his Harvey squad car’s lights to stop traffic and escorts his father’s unofficial motorcade, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found.

The unusual arrangement that allows him to carry a concealed gun into places where regular citizens can’t, and to drive a police car, despite apparently failing to do regular police work for the suburb that employs him, may be especially useful to the man who leads the Nation of Islam’s “Fruit of Islam” security detail.

Neither Farrakhan, his close pal, Harvey Mayor Eric J. Kellogg, nor the Nation of Islam responded to requests last week to discuss it.

Harvey Police Chief Denard Eaves also declined to answer detailed questions about Farrakhan’s hire, his use of the city-owned squad car, or his security work for the country’s leading radical black Muslim.

  38. Boston Bombers Spared Mercedes Owner Because He Was a Foreigner (Video)
Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hijacked a Mercedes on Friday morning during their final killing spree. The car owner escaped the hijacking after he withdrew $800 at an ATM for the terrorists. The owner later told police he was spared because he was not American.

    It was jihad.

  39. Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev took time during his final moments to phone his mother as he engaged in a furious gun battle with police early on Friday morning, it has emerged.

‘The police, they have started shooting at us, they are chasing us,’ Tsarnaev told his mother Zubeidat Tsarnaeva.

At the time he was hurling pressure cooker bombs at officers in the suburb of Watertown as he and his brothers fired more than 200 rounds.

Then, finally, before hanging up Tsarnaev said: ‘Mama, I love you.’

When he ran out of bullets, police say he charged at police, before officers tackeld him and he was finally run over by his brother Dzhokar.

Days earlier, reports The Wall Street Journal, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva had called her son after the bombings, concerned about his safety.

Shockingly, he’d merely shrugged off her concern.

‘Mama,’ laughed Tsarnaeva, ‘why are you worrying?’

  40. Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev may have murdered his ‘only American friend’ in an unsolved triple killing two years ago, it emerged today.

Brendan Mess had his ‘throat slit’ alongside two other men in a Massachusetts apartment in 2011 in what police described as a ‘very graphic crime scene’.

Former associates of the Chechan immigrant didn’t initially suspect him of carrying out the gruesome attack, but thought it was strange he didn’t attend his friend’s funeral.

Now one man who knew Tamerlan through the gym where they trained said some of their social circle ‘without even speaking about it beforehand have all been thinking’ he could be involved.

The friend, who gave his name only as Ray, told BuzzFeed Politics: ‘At the time, none of us would have thought it was Tam.

‘It was just so emotional and we thought we had someone else who had done it.’

But since Tamerlan was identified as the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three and injured 180, Ray believes his sudden disappearance after Mess’s death may be a clue.

  41. STRESSED & DEPRESSED

Consider the following trends:

Suicide has surpassed car crashes as the leading cause of injury death for Americans. Even more disturbing, in the world’s greatest military, more U.S. soldiers died last year by suicide than in combat

Fully one-third of the nation’s employees suffer chronic debilitating stress, and more than half of all “millennials” (18 to 33 year olds) experience a level of stress that keeps them awake at night, including large numbers diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorder.

  42. http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/22/change-org-hosts-petition-claiming-boston-bombing-suspects-wrongfully-accused/

The online petition platform Change.org currently hosts a petition to President Obama asking him to guarantee “wrongfully accused” Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev a “fair trial,” citing a lack of evidence to condemn Tsarnaev.

Change.org, which features sponsored petitions from groups including Amnesty International and the Humane Society, features a petition entitled, “Petition to guarantee Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the right to a fair trial,” created by Anita Temisheva of Chicago, Illinois.

The petition has already netted more than 2,000 signatures.

“We believe that within the chaos caused by the Boston Marathon explosion, two young men were wrongfully accused of something they did not do, and one of them has lost his life before even getting the opportunity of a proper trial. We do not wish to see blood of yet another innocent victim, someone who, by U.S. law, is innocent until proven guilty,” reads the petition’s introductory statement.

“It is vital to end this persecution, as all the conflicting information shown by the media, and footage from the incident, seen by people from all corners of the world, doesn’t manifest itself as enough evidence to condemn Dzhokhar Tsarnaev of this heinous crime. You promised to the world that you would get to the bottom of this, and we hope you keep your word. We want evidence. We want truth. We want justice,” the petition says.

The White House said Monday that the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing will not be treated as an enemy combatant, in response to calls from Republican lawmakers to consider that option.

The announcement came as a federal complaint was filed against suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Fox News has learned that the suspect made an initial appearance in front of a federal magistrate judge at the hospital where he is still being treated. No plea was entered.

Very disturbing Leanora. The perps’ actions would suggest an intel gathering operation to assess response time, security procedures at the rivers edge, possibly to also sample water temperature and/or possible escape routes. Maybe even a possible distraction that can be set up to occupy authorities while other nefarious acts are occurring. The response is what is disturbing. An incident like that at a nuclear facility ESPECIALLY on the heels of Boston should raise red flags all the way up to the Sec of Homeland Security.

  48. Larry is ticked off about the Obama Justice Department characterizing a pressure cooker used to kill 3 people and injure 200 as a “WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION”. He points out how this misuse language is an Orwellian appeal to mob behavior, and he condemns it for that reason. The only thing that surprises me about this is that Larry is surprised. This is what demagogues always do, and Obama is a demagogue of the worst order. Ergo, the entire sham is not merely unsurprising, but predictable. I would say par for the course, but neither Obama or Boehner have ever carded a legitimate par in their lives.

The Absurdity of the Tsarnaev WMD Terrorism Charge

By Larry Johnson on April 22, 2013 at 4:18 PM in Current Affairs

We have entered the tortured, Orewellian world of Animal Farm with the charges filed today against Dzokhar Tsarnaev in Boston:

The Justice Department said Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, was charged in a criminal complaint unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. It said he is “specifically charged with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction (namely, an improvised explosive device or IED) against persons and property within the United States resulting in death, and one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.” The department said in a news release that the bombings resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to more than 200 others.

Are they joking? Since when is the ability to kill three people worthy of being labeled a “WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION.” Fewer than 40 pounds of explosive is not a WMD.

This abuse and misuse of the language underscores that even the supposedly liberal Obama Administration is more keen on using lies and deception and fear to manipulate the masses than they are on seeking justice. Don’t get me wrong. Tsarnaev probably deserves the death penalyy.

But the bomb (or bombs) he planted along the route of the Boston Marathon were not by any credible measure a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Buildings were not destroyed, thousands were not killed or maimed. Christ, the bombs barely dented the cement sidewalks.

Moreover, as I wrote previously, the picture that will emerge of Dzohkar is likely to introduce us to a naive kid who idolized his older brother and was easily manipulated. Highly unlikely that Dzohkar knew even rudimentary bomb making, much less the ability to construct a WMD behemoth.

The term, WMD, per Wiki, was:

Coined in reference to aerial bombing with chemical explosives, it has come to distinguish large-scale weaponry of other technologies, such as chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear. This differentiates the term from more technical ones such as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons (CBRN).

Good God!! What next? Is lighting a fart a WMD? Was Adam Lanza in Newtown a WMD?

We do ourselves a grave disservice when we allow language to become so muddled and hysterical in order to serve the sole purpose of manipulating public sympathy and rallying the mob. Shame on the authorities in Massachusetts and the ironically named US Department of Justice. Accusing Dzokhar of using a WMD is nothing but a pathological lie.

  49. Why doesn’t “If you see something, say something” apply to ‘Islamic somethings’ anymore?

Are you fed up with the antiseptic slogan, “If you see something, say something?” The authorities expect us to report suspicious backpacks, but stay silent as the tomb about the nature of the men who put them there. We’re instructed to speak up about a bloodied man’s movement under a boat tarp, but to shut up about the ideological movement that drove him to commit his carnage.

  50. “The only thing that surprises me about this is that Larry is surprised. This is what demagogues always do, and Obama is a demagogue of the worst order.”
    *********
Larry is exactly right. The Constitution is being whip-sawed and shredded by wing=nuts then vile progs. I would have hoped that the serious erosion of person freedom that has occurred since 9/11 would have given the majority of Americans some pause. It’s not much of a leap from “used WMD” and enemy combatant to “Enemy of the State”. Those “Old White Men” that the Vile Progs abhor knew from history and from their time about charges of Treason, Bills of Attainder, Corruption of the blood, etc., etc. I’m old enough that, for me it really doesn’t make a difference, but with the “Mr. President do anything to protect us from those terrists” mentality, people are going to get the Police State that they seem to want.

  51. Victor Davis Hanson:

The Obama administration may well suspend Miranda-rights privileges for the surviving bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, at least for a day or two. There are some arguments for declaring Tsarnaev an enemy combatant, at least strategically and initially to glean information about whether Tamerlan Tsarnaev had help either in Chechnya or the U.S. or both — while perhaps agreeing not to use the subsequent information in a formal federal or state murder trial (the proof of his murdering is unimpeachable and conviction is certain without a word from the defendant).

Here is a question though for proponents of declaring him an enemy combatant: What if young Dzhokhar refuses to cooperate? Does the military, CIA, or Eric Holder use “coercive techniques,” “loud music,” a trip to Guantanamo, the waterboard? Would then we read something like, “President Obama was forced to use, albeit with careful legal oversight, a Bush-Cheney holdover protocol in order to protect women and people of color from Caucasian terrorists, energized by right-wing nationalism and religious fundamentalism”?

Note in this regard that Barack Obama in 2008 made the comprehensive argument that the Bush-Cheney anti-terrorism protocols of 2002-2003 were both unnecessary and unlawful. Such critique was easy for a senator or candidate without the responsibility to keep 300 million secure from another 9/11 attack. But Obama’s critique, damaging at the time to the global prestige of the U.S. and detrimental to the reputation of the Bush administration, was partisan and without much principle. I say that carefully and on the following grounds. Under a President Obama, Guantanamo was kept open. Renditions and tribunals continue. Drone operations (to include U.S. citizens) were vastly expanded at ten times the frequency during the Bush presidency. A civilian trial of KSM was abandoned despite two years of large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress. Promised trials for waterboarders were dropped. The supposedly failed surge soon led to one of the administration’s”greatest achievements.”

What are we left with? One: a lot of public-relations damage to the U.S. by its own self-interested critics, who later dropped civil libertarian worries when one of their own admitted the efficacy and apparent legality of the very protocols he had demagogued.

Two: four years were poorly invested in a failed alternate paradigm — “overseas contingency operations,” “workplace violence,” “man-caused disasters,” worries over losing the Army “diversity program,” and restrictions on the use of “terror,” or “jihadist,” or “Islamic terror,” or “Islamist.”

I don’t think we are going to hear as much that the Muslim Brotherhood is largely a secular organization, that Benghazi was just a spontaneous demonstration, or that jihad is a holy struggle and a legitimate tenet of Islam. Not euphemism, not “George Bush did it,” not the president’s middle name or his Nobel Peace Prize, not “leading from behind” will endear the United States to radical Islam. These were the luxury of a complacency achieved by earlier vigilance. The effect of multicultural euphemism will be either nugatory or counterproductive, in sending the message that a therapeutic society prefers to be liked rather than feared, a prescription for endangering the innocent at the expense of elites’ self-satisfied morality.

    Bottom line?

Both we and our enemies have changed strategies since 9/11. I fear that radical Islamists are becoming more insidious and we more complacent and predictable. After this horrid week, I don’t think the residents of Boston worried that we were too illiberal in our asylum policies, that the FBI is over-zealous in tracking suspected Islamists, that Bostonians needed more gun-control laws to keep them safe in their individual homes as killers roamed a city under lockdown, that jihad is simply a legitimate tenet of Islam, that America is too brutalizing of immigrants, or that we need to curb promiscuous use of hurtful words like “terrorism.”

  52. More from Hanson–this time, the gullibility of the media. He gives them the benefit of the doubt when he ascribes what they do to gullibility, whereas I do not. I say it is corruption from fore to aft.

The Character of the Two Tsarnaevs — and the Notion of “I Can’t Believe…”

I am not so struck by the glowing testimonials from fellow teenagers and twenty-somethings about the two monstrous Tsarnaevs, to the effect that they seemed great guys. Such is the power of anecdote and emotion over reasoned empiricism in the young untrained mind.

The stranger fact is the adult media’s gullible reporting of these impressions as if they were somehow significant, as if superficial impression is the key to understanding an ideology that drives behavior. The following caricature reflects how one of the present therapeutic society might remark on the death of Adolf Hitler. “I don’t quite understand his violent side. He was a man who simply loved children — certainly he fawned upon the Goebbels kids. He inquired about the health and welfare of his chauffer and valet, and no boss was more considerate of his secretaries. Hitler’s dogs were his pride and joy; I never saw a kinder and more gentler master. Eva Braun simply lit up at his presence. His conversations at dinner were witty, lively, and polite. He gave up almost everything for Germany. And while he seemed troubled at times, I always attributed it to the horrors of the trenches. None of us can quite judge him, or even know what it was like for a young man to be subject to what Hitler endured — only to be unemployed, shamed, and ignored upon returning to a defeated Austria and Germany. It just makes no sense that such a seemingly kind person could commit such horrors. I still can’t quite believe it.”

Do we care whether a man who placed a bomb full of ball bearings next to an eight-year-old boy and blew apart dozens of innocents was nice to his peers? Let us at least hope that the killer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is not to be known as “unduly influenced by his brother,” “fully American,” “coerced to become violent,” “brain-washed,” and “young and impressionable.”

  53. And finally from Hanson, this:

Drones, fairly or not, are now branded as a convenient way to kill a few hundred terrorist suspects without bothering the American people, but they also put us to sleep about radical Islam by making it out of sight, out of mind. The next phases of the war will probably be fought on American soil, waged by al-Qaedists rather than al-Qaeda. Video cameras and good police work may prevent some terrorism. But ultimately we need to change the landscape of the American mind, and try honesty instead of therapy about the nature of the danger.

I would also look very carefully at immigration policy. Is America so short of manpower that we need a Tamerlan Tsarnaev, his brother, his mother, or his father in the United States?

Would not more frequent denial into the U.S. prompt more respect for America than does near pro forma entry? Would not the free use of words like “terrorism” and “Islamist” again convey better the image of a confident society that cares not what jihadists or their supporters think than does worry over offending those who hate us?

Unless we drop the therapeutic and embrace the tragic, we are looking at a lot more Bostons — and sooner than we think. We caricatured George Bush’s “dead or alive” crudity, but for purposes of defeating the Islamists it beats John Brennan’s sermons such as “Nor do we describe our enemy as jihadists or Islamists because jihad is holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam meaning to purify oneself of one’s community.”

I fear in the next weeks we will be reading commentary on the Boston bombing from the Left emphasizing the brutalizing effects of America upon immigrants, our failure to offer the necessary psychological and material support to victims like the Tsarnaevs, and in general how we in redneck fashion blame-game defenseless immigrants — all in between lectures about drawing false inferences about radical Islam.

FBI missed Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Russia trip because of misspelling, Sen. Lindsey Graham says

By Susan Crabtree-The Washington Times Monday, April 22, 2013

The FBI did not know that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older Boston Marathon bombing suspect who was killed following a firefight last week, took a six-month trip to Russia because his name was misspelled, Sen. Lindsey Graham said.

Mr. Graham, a South Carolina Republican, told Fox News Monday that he had spoken to an assistant director at the FBI about the agency’s failure to monitor Tsarnaev after interviewing him in 2011 after a tip from from the Russian government that he could be dangerous. Late Friday the FBI said it found nothing “derogatory” after that initial questioning.

SEE RELATED: Boston Marathon bombing suspect charged with using weapon of mass destruction; not enemy combatant
“He went over to Russia, but apparently when he got on the airplane, they misspelled his name, so it never went into the system that he actually went to Russia,” Mr. Graham told Fox News.

Tsarnaev died early Friday morning following a gunfight with police. His younger brother and suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was taken into custody Friday night and is in the hospital suffering a throat wound either self-inflicted or a result of a shootout with police before they apprehended him.

At this point, Washington is engaged in a heated debate about whether he should be tried as an American citizen or as an enemy combatant, with charges expected early this week.

Mr. Graham, who authored the military commission law, wants the surviving Tsarnaev brother treated as an enemy combatant so intelligence officials can question him as long as they deem necessary.

On Sunday, he expressed frustration with the federal government for failing to keep track of the elder brother, arguing that “the ball was dropped.”

But one day later on Fox News, Mr. Graham changed his tune, saying the FBI “did a good job.”

SEE RELATED: Bombing motive now big question; injured suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev starts responding to queries
“One of two things happened,” Mr. Graham said. “The FBI either dropped the ball or our system doesn’t allow the FBI to follow this guy in an appropriate fashion. I think once the Russians made this request, the FBI did a good job of looking at him. The reason we didn’t know he went to Russia is because the name was misspelled.”

White House spokesman Jay Carney defended the FBI Monday, saying the agency did “extraordinary work” in responding to the Boston attack, identifying the suspects and working with state and local authorities to bring them to justice.

When it comes to following up on the warnings about Mr. Tsarnaev from Russia, Mr. Carney also said the FBI “thoroughly investigated it.”

“The FBI followed up on the information that it received about Tamerlan Tsaernaev, the elder brother; they investigated it thoroughly and did not find terrorist activity – domestic or foreign,” he said.

After the 2011 tip, Mr. Carney said the FBI checked U.S. government databases and “other information” to look for such things as “derogatory telephone communications,” possible use of online sites associated with the promotion of radical activity, other persons of interest, travel history and plans, as well as education history.

They also interviewed Mr. Tsarnaev and “family members” and, at the time, “did not find any terrorism activity.”

The two suspects’ mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaev, told CNN Friday in an interview that the FBI has been keeping tabs on her son for several years and wondered how the U.S. government could have allowed him to go ahead with his plans if they were watching him so closely.

“Tamerlan was counseled by the FBI for three, five years,” she said. “They knew what my son was doing. They knew what actions and what sites on the Internet he was going. How could this happen?”

  61. In coverage of Boston Bombing, he only hint of a close relationship between MA Gov Deval Patrick and POTUS that I could detect was when POTUS had his turn at the lectern and in acknowledging dignitaries present, called the Governor by his first name. And yet there is this blast from the past:

Axelrod is key word for Obama, Patrick
February 20, 2008|By John McCormick and Christi Parsons, TRIBUNE
Barack Obama and Deval Patrick share more than common ideas about politics and a similar way of phrasing their thoughts from time to time. They also share an important friend, Democratic consultant David Axelrod, a political wordsmith and admaker who helped Patrick become governor of Massachusetts and who is now a key player in the run for president by Obama, a senator from Illinois. Obama rival Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York thinks Axelrod is “putting words in both of their mouths,” noting similarities in some of Obama’s and Patrick’s comments in speeches.
But Axelrod, a Chicagoan, said Tuesday he had “nothing to do with” the similarities and they simply show that the two politicians share a similar outlook.
“One thing I emphatically deny is authorship of those lines or any of the great lines that Barack and Deval Patrick use,” Axelrod said in an interview. “I had to come to grips early on in my relationship with Barack Obama that he was a far better writer than me, and the same is true with Deval Patrick.”
The issue arose Monday when the Clinton campaign pointed out that words in an Obama speech Saturday recalled remarks by Patrick during his campaign for governor in 2006.
On Tuesday, a second example arose. A pair of videos cropped up on YouTube showing Patrick and Obama uttering almost the same line.
“I am not asking anybody to take a chance on me,” Patrick says in the latest posting, a speech from 2006. “I’m asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations.”
In the clip from a 2007 speech, Obama says, “I’m not just asking you to take a chance on me. I’m also asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations.”
Patrick has said he suggested that Obama use the lines that he borrowed over the weekend. And Obama frequently jokes about “trading lines” with Patrick, according to friends. In a December appearance in New Hampshire, ABC News quoted him attributing a line to the governor.
“I’m stealing this line from my buddy Deval Patrick, who stole a whole bunch of lines from me when he ran for the governorship,” Obama reportedly said.
An aide to Obama said Tuesday that quote makes the senator’s point.
“It is not a secret that Obama and Patrick trade lines all the time,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. “They talk about just that fact all the time.”

Trial begins for officials accused in Obama, Clinton ballot petition fraud

    Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/04/22/trial-begins-for-officials-accused-in-obama-clinton-ballot-petition-fraud/#ixzz2RFR4ltyr

The trial is underway for a former Democratic official and a Board of Elections worker who are accused of being part of a plot that has raised questions over whether President Obama’s campaign — when he was a candidate in 2008 — submitted enough legitimate signatures to have legally qualified for the presidential primary ballot.

The two face charges of orchestrating an illegal scheme to fake the petitions that enabled then-candidates Obama, and Hillary Clinton, to qualify for the race in Indiana.

Former longtime St. Joseph County Democratic Party Chairman Butch Morgan Jr. faces multiple felony conspiracy counts to commit petition fraud, and former county Board of Elections worker Dustin Blythe is charged with nine felony forgery counts and one felony count of falsely making a petition of nomination. The proceedings began Monday in South Bend.

Morgan is accused of being the mastermind behind the plot, by allegedly ordering Democratic officials and workers to fake the names and signatures that Obama and Clinton needed to qualify for the presidential race. Blythe, then a Board of Elections employee and Democratic Party volunteer, has been accused of carrying out those orders by forging signatures on Obama’s petitions.

Two former Board of Elections officials have already pleaded guilty to charges related to the scheme and could testify against Morgan and Blythe.

Former board worker Beverly Shelton, who allegedly was assigned the task of forging the petitions for Hillary Clinton, pleaded guilty in March to charges of forgery and falsely making a petition. The board’s former Democratic head of voter registration, Pam Brunette, pleaded guilty in April to felony forgery, official misconduct, and falsifying a petition.

The alleged scheme was hatched in January of 2008, according to affidavits from investigators who cite former Board of Registration worker Lucas Burkett, who told them he was in on the plan at first, but then became uneasy and quit. He waited three years before telling authorities about it, but if revelations about any forgeries were raised during the election, the petitions could have been challenged during the contest. Any candidate who did not qualify with enough legitimate signatures at the time could have been bounced from the ballot.

The Indiana trial has raised questions about whether in 2008, candidate Obama actually submitted enough legitimate signatures to have legally qualified.

Under state law, presidential candidates need to qualify for the primary ballots with 500 signatures from each of the state’s nine congressional districts. Indiana election officials say that in St. Joseph County, which is the 2nd Congressional District, the Obama campaign qualified with 534 signatures; Clinton’s camp had 704.

Prosecutors say that in Obama’s case, nine of the petition pages were apparently forged. Each petition contains up to 10 names, making a possible total of 90 names, which, if faked, could have brought the Obama total below the legal limit required to qualify. Prosecutors say 13 Clinton petitions were apparently forged, meaning up to 130 possibly fake signatures. Even if 130 signatures had been challenged, it would have still left Clinton with enough signatures to meet the 500-person threshold.

An Indiana State Police investigator said in court papers that the agency examined the suspect Obama petitions and “selected names at random from each of the petition pages and contacted those people directly. We found at least one person (and often multiple people) from each page who confirmed that they had not signed” petitions “or given consent for their name and/or signature to appear.” The case was charged citing 20 forgeries — not the total number of possible fake entries — because that was considered a sufficient amount to prosecute.

Numerous voters told Fox News that they never signed the petitions.

“That’s not my signature,” Charity Rorie, a mother of four, told Fox News when showed the Obama petition with her name and signature. She said it “absolutely” was a fake.

Charity told Fox News that her husband’s entry was also a forgery, and that they have not been contacted by investigators or any authorities looking into the scandal.

“It’s scary, it’s shocking. It definitely is illegal. A lot of people have already lost faith in politics and the whole realm of politics, so that just solidifies our worries and concerns.”

Robert Hunter, Jr. said his name was faked, too.

“I did not sign for Barack Obama,” he told us. As he examined the Obama petition in his hands, Hunter pointed out that “I always put ‘Junior’ after my name, every time … there’s no ‘Junior’ there.”

Even a former Democratic Governor of Indiana, Joe Kernan, told Fox News that his name was forged.

The allegations were first uncovered by Indiana native and Yale University senior Ryan Nees, who wrote about the revelations for the political newsletter, Howey Politics Indiana.

“What’s worrisome about this scheme is that it wasn’t a single bad actor going rogue. Rather, four people were charged as co-conspirators, and two of the four have already pleaded guilty,” Nees told Fox News.

Nees believes that had the petitions been challenged during the presidential election, “it’s unlikely either candidate would have qualified for the ballot.”

He said the fraud was clearly evident, “because page after page of signatures are all in the same handwriting.” He noted that no one raised any red flags “because election workers in charge of verifying their validity were the same people faking the signatures.”

Both Morgan and Blythe have pleaded not guilty, and when approached by Fox News in 2011, Blythe refused to talk about the case.

Morgan’s attorney declined our request for an interview, and Blythe’s attorney has not responded to our efforts for comment.

The petition process is vital to candidates’ campaigns.

In the 2012 presidential race, Republican candidate Newt Gingrich was tripped up by that process in Virginia. He failed to qualify for the GOP primary ballot in that state, because authorities said hundreds of signatures on his campaign’s petitions were faked. A Gingrich campaign worker has pleaded guilty, and another still faces charges.

Petition fraud also cost Michigan Republican Rep. Thaddeus McCotter his public office. McCotter, who also ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, has accused former campaign workers of intentionally faking his congressional primary race petition signatures. The result was that McCotter did not submit the legal number of signatures needed to qualify for the ballot, and that failure forced him to resign his congressional seat last July. While McCotter was not implicated in any wrongdoing, two former campaign aides pleaded no contest to criminal charges, and one pleaded guilty.

Eric Justin Toth, U.S Most Wanted Child Porn Suspect, Nabbed In Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Police in Nicaragua have detained a former U.S. school teacher who was on the FBI’s 10 most-wanted fugitives as a suspect in a child pornography investigation, authorities confirmed Monday.

Eric Justin Toth was detained Saturday in Esteli, a city near Nicaragua’s border with Honduras, and will be immediately deported to the United States, said National Police chief Aminta Granera.

“Toth will be deported immediately because he was in our country illegally,” Granera said at a news conference in Managua, the capital.

  64. We can no longer afford to have our society run by the likes of Obama, the dimocrat party, rinos and big media. It is not just the Boston incident, or Benghazi, or the Cairo speech, or Egypt, or ignoring our debt, or inability to solve problems. The reason is far more fundamental, and far more pervasive and far more enduring than any single horrific incident which is washed away in the next news cycle and the limited attention span of the public. The reason we can no longer tolerate them is because jointly and severally they deny reality itself in favor of their cloud cuckoo land narrative. They deny fact and they cling to fiction. And the fiction they promote endlessly, everlastingly and eternally, 24-7 non stop sooner or later it is believed by the American Public.

  65. A fine example of that is the Pam Geller piece the link to which is posted above. It shows us how far big media has gone to the hide truth from the American People, and create diversionary issues. If all the incidents committed on this soil by Muslim terrorists were on the table, rather than hidden under the table by Obama and his big media toadies, then even the dullest knives in the drawer would see that we are in fact in a state of war with Muslim extremism, and anyone who claims different is a bloody liar. That is not the same thing as condemning Muslims as a whole, which is wrong. But big media has too many ties of its own to the bad guys to ever come clean. That is why they should be ignored as much as possible by responsible people.

  66. Is Citizenship A New Tactic In The War On Terror?
    By: Dana Loesch (Diary) | April 22nd, 2013 at 05:12 PM | 8

Is citizenship now a tactic? Earlier today I asked foreign policy expert Stephen Yates whether or not he believes that terrorists are now using American citizenship as a tactic to thwart surveillance and investigation on the basis of their newfound civil liberties (audio below).

It’s a legitimate question. We know Tamerlane Tsarnev claimed to not have any American friends, is suspected of killing the only one he made, and judging by his own social media accounts was incredibly hostile towards America. His younger brother was the same.

The 9/11 terror attacks began as an immigration problem. I’ve said this for years. Terrorists in our country on expired visas were stopped by police for traffic reasons weeks before the attack. The Boston bombings, by looking at the suspects, was also an immigration problem. I know upstanding individuals with no criminal record or associations who have waited 12 years, paid five figures, and hired attorneys to get the same citizenship status awarded in a shorter time to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev – citizenship our government was in the process of considering for Tamerlane Tsarnaev, despite his FBI interrogation and tip from Russian government.

The majority of people arguing about immigration (namely, politicians in DC) frame the conversation solely with the Mexican border. I fail to see how the Gang of Eight’s proposal, in its current form, would reform the problems which plague the system and allow for incidents like this to happen. But by all means, let’s focus on satellite phones instead of this massive oversight.

Mark Steyn in America Alone made a fabulous point in that Islamists will use political correctness to legally enforce ideological supremacy in the United States. Is it beyond the realm of possibility to believe that individuals intent on terror would also hide behind newly acquired civil liberties to avoid detection and surveillance or to shut down an investigation? Why aren’t these questions being asked? And what are we doing to remedy this without impeding law-abiding immigrants who simply want to be Americans?

…hey, these up and coming young terroist bombers are not stupid…they come to the USA…first get their citizenship…then work the system and get a college education, scholarships, sports. and benefits that taxpayers pay for…and then they decide to blow up Americans…children and all…

but, they don’t “even have one american friend”…
    *************************************************

i don’t know why this should surprise anyone…in 9/11 they used our own planes to kill us and bring down our own buildings…

these ruthless minds that would intentionally kill even children will use any means they can to attack us…

why not gain US citizenship and make everything so much easier for them…and use all our resources, our education system, our colleges and dormatories, our taxes, our benefits, our hospitals, our legal system to protect them once they are citizens, etc, etc, why the hell not…while they set out to plot to take us down…

    it is a no brainer…

Benghazi to Boston: the Saudi agenda & shielding the truth

First, don’t get stuck in the minutia of al Harbi, just be aware of it and who is behind it. Instead, look at the larger picture. To be clear, al Harbi himself is not the main story here. It’s bigger than that, and the problem is that people are not thinking big enough. It’s about an agenda to shape the world power structure. The Obama regime is in place to finish what was started long ago. Now, the players under Obama and a complicit press are shielding the truth from the American people. We are not being told the truth about anything, from Benghazi to Boston, and the common factor in all of this is Saudi Arabia.

    Progressives’ Ultimate Fetish

Progressives can’t help themselves. When a normal person hears of a tragedy, they feel the natural range of emotions – fear, anger, sympathy, etc. But progressives are not normal humans. When they hear news of a tragedy their first thought is “How can this help the cause?” There’s something oddly perverse about this mental defect that somehow overrides decency in tragedy’s aftermath, but it’s as widespread amongst the political left as freckles are on redheads.

Harsh? Perhaps. But sometimes the truth hurts.

  70. I despise this man. And I despise all the others who so obviously look down on us and treat us like fools. Most of us realize what is going on and are tired of this scam!

I am freezing my buns off today in New York. As I write it is 39 degrees with a wind chill of 26! That sound is not science screaming like Kerry said – it was me screaming as I stepped outside the door. I had to come back in to get out my winter jacket again. This is the end of April for goodness sake! I have friends in Denver who are preparing their home for another blizzard!

I know there are plenty of people who will attempt to fit this awful weather into their own reality. My own brother does it all the time – if it is unusually cold it’s because of global warming and if it is unusually warm it is because of global warming. Maybe he believes he sounds like an intellectual, but he actually sounds like a moron.

I don’t know if John Kerry is a moron. He has an agenda to push and that makes him worse than a moron. It makes him a dangerous man!

Sorry for the rant. I am angry this morning. Gotta go now. Maybe I’ll put on my scarf and gloves too.

Simple Boston Bomb Plot Hatched Without Foreign Help, Authorities Believe
“…Authorities tell ABC News they now believe the two foreign-born brothers were inspired to violence by the Internet preachings of al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki, the charismatic American-born radical jihadist, who has been dead now for more than a year….” [Same guy who inspired Fort Hood shooter – TruthAboutFortHood.com – a site run by survivors of the massacre there.]

Sure. And let’s say it is mere coincidence that charismatic Anwar al-Awlaki influenced both Boston and #FtHood, and was taken out by an Obama-ordered Drone.

That is my thesis as well. Their money and influence were a pivotal factor in installing this bozo in the White House. Previously, I listed what I believed was the evidence. The law of nature is in play here: nature abhors a vacuum.

Nothing from Beck I guess. Just PT Barnum stuff, not unlike Trump.

  73. This article from that disgusting rag WASHPO recognizes the policy failure of the Obama Administation—a real live ship of fools. Take the failures, re-engineer backwards, and you will find that the “root cause” which the left is now obsessing about in re. Boston, is really Obama himself and his cloud cuckoo land view of the world, and his apology tour.

The costs of a Middle East arms deal

    DUBAI

President Obama has used military muscle and veiled threats to counter North Korea’s rattling of nuclear rockets and Iran’s drive to enrich more uranium faster at the outset of his second term. His lofty ambition of four years ago to curb proliferation through diplomatic engagement lies in ruins.

That does not mean that Obama’s nonproliferation ambitions were unworthy or that diplomacy should be abandoned. It does mean that the president must pay more attention to creating the conditions for diplomacy’s effective use.

The president appears to have assumed that engineering U.S. retreats from Iraq and Afghanistan would immediately strengthen his hand in dealing with other foreign crises. How else to explain his unshakable confidence in his ability to accomplish his early far-reaching global agenda?

The American experience in the wake of Vietnam argues otherwise: The savings and respites brought by strategic retreats come slowly. The uncertainty and crippling doubts they spread among allies manifest themselves immediately and get resolved in the heat of crisis management.

So the president had to dispatch B-2 stealth bombers to fly over Seoulto reassure Japan and South Korea — and not just those two nations — that the United States would be there to protect them in case Kim Jong Un went beyond his unexpected verbal tantrums.

And after the latest round of international talks with Iran produced only new stalemate, Obama gave final approval last week to a $10 billion arms sales package for Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), each of which opposes Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel termed the arms package a “clear signal” to Iran. But the message was intended more for King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia — who has made no secret of his disenchantment with Obama’s leadership — than for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian media have derisively dismissed the announcement of the sales as “an incitement to regional conflict.”

Hagel is due here in the Emirates on Wednesday to arrange the final details of the complicated arms deal, whose negotiations have not been friction-free and which may wind up reducing Obama’s room to use diplomacy for nonproliferation.

This is an unwieldy, lopsided package that will be difficult to manage coherently. The individual pieces make sense of a sort for each of the three nations. But cobbling them together as a political package to defuse opposition from Israel and on Capitol Hill to the Arab states’ purchases is about tactics — and fairly cynical ones at that.

The Pentagon will provide Israel with V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor troop transport aircraft, KC-135 refueling planes and surface-to-air missiles. These are weapons that each increase Israel’s ability to mount a raid on Iran — even though Obama has leaned heavily on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid that. Such supplies now inadvertently weaken the only containment strategy that Obama has consistently practiced in the Middle East — the containment of Israel.

The administration will also have to manage the strategic slight it has inflicted by having declined, for now, to provide the Saudis and the Emirates with stealthy attack missiles, while calling on them to develop “the capabilities” needed “to address the Iranian threat,” in the words of an administration official speaking anonymously to the New York Times in Washington.

The UAE, in particular, deserves better treatment than that. It has supported U.S. foreign policy from Afghanistan to North Africa with troops, money, aircraft and the sober responsibility of an ally that can be trusted. But under the Pentagon’s “single-release” policy, any weapon sold to the Emirates must be made available to Saudi Arabia and the four other members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, not all of whom clear the same threshold of trust.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE had asked for the latest and most powerful stealthy precision-guided air-to-surface AGM-158 missile , also known by the acronym JASSM. But they are being told they will have to settle for a less sophisticated “stand-off” missile, probably the AGM-88, according to U.S. sources.

The AGM-158 missile would be particularly effective in knocking out Iran’s air defense and hitting deeply buried, heavily reinforced nuclear installations if war came. But it has been sold abroad only to Australia and Finland. Israel reportedly has developed its own stealthy missile.

This is what what happens when policy has to be made on the run in response to cascading crises. Messages about intentions get blurred to allies and adversaries alike, and uncertainty about U.S. leadership grows. It is a lesson worth absorbing.

  74. PARIS (AP) — France legalized gay marriage on Tuesday after a wrenching national debate and protests that flooded the streets of Paris.

Legions of officers and water cannon stood ready near France’s National Assembly ahead of the final vote, bracing for possible violence on an issue that galvanized the country’s faltering conservative movement.

Interesting, especially with the growing population of Muslims moving there.
