The Devil Went Down To Georgi… Israel

Update II: Should we laugh or cry? The treacherous boob continues his treacherous campaign of deception. Obama to Israelis: Put yourselves in the Palestinians’ shoes:

Four years ago, I stood in Cairo in front of an audience of young people. Politically, religiously, they must seem a world away. But the things they want – they’re not so different from you. The ability to make their own decisions; to get an education and a good job; to worship God in their own way; to get married and have a family. The same is true of the young Palestinians that I met in Ramallah this morning, and of young Palestinians who yearn for a better life in Gaza.

Which Egyptian “young people” does he mean? The ~5% of the country that’s liberal and reform-minded and that quickly disappeared from political view after Mubarak was deposed?”

Arafat had a chance to embrace Bill Clinton’s peace plan and there would have been a Palestinian state decades ago. But it is not about a Palestinian state it is about the destruction of Israel. Obama thinks a speech to Israelis will make Israelis overthrow their leaders and embrace him. But Israelis live on the front line of the red line and they will not fall for Obama’s duplicities as easily as gullible American voters twisted by lies from Big Media.

—————————————————————–

Update: First, “The Beast” broke down (hint: it’s not Michelle). Second, several appearances with Netanyahu which on the surface are friendly but the astute eye can see Bibi boxing in the Boob. Third, a tree might grow in Brooklyn but Israelis know (i) the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree; (ii) beware of Obamas bearing gifts; (iii) and that atree doesn’t fall far from the Limo. Time to uproot.

Then the last temptation of Chuckie – asking questions about why Obama boobed in the Middle East. Obama to Chuck Todd in Israel: What’s with all the questions? Outrage ensued as the Hopium Guzzlers choked at too many questions from the bearded hog. So “why haven’t the Israeli people embraced Obama like the last two predecessors?”

—————————————————————-

Johnny get your fiddle!

This past Sunday Republican and Speaker of the House John Boner said he “absolutely” trusts Barack Obama. What a moron.

The RNC had its own boner problem on Monday in the form of a silly report about fixing the party’s problems with voters. Far from being Reince Priebus’s not so crazy plans (as some would have it), the RNC report whines about how voters have an ugly image of the GOP but somehow the report fails to see then attack Big Media as the big reason why the public has this view.

The RNC report has one great joke in it. The RNC now wants to have a say in who moderates their debates. These are truly stupid people if only now they realize that Big Media can do real damage to them when presenting Republican candidates in a Republican forum while many voters are watching. Only now they get this???

We were yelling about the need to reject Big Media moderators, even entire networks, back in 2007 when we wrote that Hillary Clinton should not allow NBC or MSNBC anywhere near her or her campaign. Hillary’s campaign didn’t listen although that might be due to the reality that if she uttered a peep about Big Media bias she would have been denounced as a scaredy girl. But Republicans?

Republicans have not had that excuse. In fact since Spiro Agnew Republicans beating up on Big Media has been a strong net positive for them. Newt Gingrich’s biggest moments in 2012 came about when he publicly denounced Big Media at the debates. The truth is: “GOP leaders are out of touch with the party’s base.” It’s their party, not ours, but really, how just how deeply stupid are these Republican “leaders”?

* * * * * *

Tonight Barack Obama begins a transatlantic publicity stunt. Yup, finally Obama is going to Israel after snubbing Israel and giving a putrid speech to the Muslim world from Cairo. We certainly hope, and believe that Israeli leaders will not prove so hopelessly stupid as Republican “leaders”.

It is humorous and fortuitous that as Barack Obama prepares his Israel bamboozlement tour a televised controversy has hit, courtesy of the History Channel. Barack Obama is Satan at the History Channel.

Barack Satan Obama

At the very time that Barack Obama is traveling to the Holy Land to spew deceit and temptations, a lookalike TV Obama is already at the Holy Land spewing deceit and temptations. Clueless Israeli leaders who, like John Boner, “trust” Obama can get a clue courtesy of the History Channel.

The latest Obama Satan depiction comes from fans of and donors to Barack Obama so it is not a Republican plot. The Producers of “The Bible” miniseries: No way were we trying to make Satan look like Obama – they say the devil made them do it. Seriously, that’s what they say.

The devil used to go to Georgia to lay a trap for unwitting fiddle players. But Johnny the fiddle player slapped that ol’ debil and won a golden violin. Israeli leaders: get a clue. Obama is not going to Israel for any kind of good.

The latest CNN poll has bad news, more bad news, and then even more bad news for Barack Obama. The first set of bad news come on his approval rating, which has dramatically reversed in just two months. Obama has gone from 55/43 in January in the aftermath of his win on tax hikes to 47/50 today — a drop in the gap of 15 points, +12 to -3. It’s the first negative approval rating in this poll since January 2012, when Obama’s approval stood at 47/51. Among independents, his approval rating is only 41/53.

His standing on the issues is even shakier. Overall, 54% of respondents disagree with Obama on “issues that matter most to you,” with only 44% agreeing. On specific issues, it’s even worse. Obama just spent weeks insisting that the sequester would be a disaster and that Americans wanted a “balanced approach” to budgeting rather than spending cuts. Only 31% agree with him on federal budgeting after that campaign, with 67% disapproving (although Republicans do even worse at 19/79). Obama only edges House Republicans on the issue by a single point, 47/46, a dissipation of the bully pulpit advantage. Respondents also rebuke him for not engaging enough with Republicans, with 56% saying he should be doing more.

  2. The divider in chief is going to Israel for one reason DIVIDE and Conquer 👿
He will speak to the people and try to turn them against their leaders namely Bibi. 😯

  3. Layoffs and furloughs are in store, delays at airports are on the way, and tours of the White House are cancelled, but the White House has found the money for a full day of St Patrick’s celebrations today honoring a minor U.S. ally but a major U.S. voting bloc.

The festival of everything Irish culminates in a lavish East Room party tonight that will no doubt be watched over carefully by some of the same Secret Service agents unable to conduct White House tours, lest the inevitable imbibing get out hand.

Tonight’s party will be hosted by President Obama and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny, who will, as is the custom, present Obama with a bowl teaming with Irish shamrocks.

  4. Just thinking of all the people that are watching the series on the History channel, myself included, just cause…, and I am not very religious at all.

All these people will see the image similarity with Obama-Satan, and well after those scenes go away in their minds…the connection will be there for a longer period of time. Too bad that many Dems will not be watching and making those connections.

  5. David Niles, a close adviser to FDR, once remarked that if Roosevelt had lived (and thus Harry Truman remained vice president), he probably would not have supported the creation of Israel, and as a result the Jewish state might never have been established.

Obama, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Zionism
How ironic that for so many elderly Jews from FDR’s times, he is viewed as their patron saint. Given FDR’s tepid response to the Holocaust and to any rescue plans, there should be little doubt that FDR far from being a friend of the Jews, actually had a touch of the anti-Semite in him.

  6. Admin, I confess I am rather surprised. The biggest news from Hillaryland in years, her declaration of support for gay marriage, and we haven’t heard from you on the subject at all. What’s your take on this development? Thank you.

Trey Gowdy is no clown or bullshitter. I love this guy, wish he had someone give him a softer hairdo…he is such a great guy.

  8. Exactly. He is going to try and appeal to Israel’s fairly vocal left and undermine Bibi. No true Jew /Israeli should trust Obama.

  9. HenryJohnson, didn’t you hear? Hillary is now a retired eventually to be grandma who has no political future. That’s what the Obamatroids have been saying for years now. 🙂

We thought our Clinton, Bush, Clinton, Bush post pretty much provided our reaction (before it happened) to Hillary’s announcement.

We’ll eventually begin to concentrate on Hillary and what she is up to but for now suffice to say that her announcement is no surprise. Hillary marched in gay pride parades when it was not an easy political position to take and has always been “gay positive”. Unlike Barack Obama who never marched in a gay pride parade, gave earmark money to homophobes, ran a homophobic campaign in the South Carolina primaries and who supported gay marriage when it was convenient in his liberal Chicago district then turned against gay marriage when it was not convenient then went AC/DC switch hitter again on gay rights when he feared the gay money boycott of his campaign – Hillary has had a natural progression and her recent announcement was presaged when Bill several years ago came out for gay marriage.

The only matter of consequence in Hillary’s announcement was the announcement itself. The announcement was the first day of Hillary Clinton 2016 (even as we believe Hillary will make her decision on a presidential campaign next year near the congressional elections).

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I think we do have to revise our doomsday pronouncements. We had been saying up to now America’s headed the way of Greece. I would say it’s headed the way of Cyprus, because if you start to confiscate people’s money retroactively you’ve got a real problem on your hands. And I guess, I think if you put it to a vote for the people of that state, you’d get the same result that you got today in Cyprus in the parliament where nobody, not a single member of the parliament supported an agreement that the government itself had proposed. The government party, not one of them voted yes. It abstained entirely on a proposal that it had agreed to. So that tells you how unpopular it is.

  12. Using Race To Leverage Injustice – Example 101

This week many people became aware of the name “Thomas Perez” because he is a nominee put forth by President Obama for a cabinet secretary position, Labor Secretary. However, in his previous role as head of the Civil Rights Division of the Dept of Justice, Mr Perez played a key role in the George Zimmerman case.

“The only matter of consequence in Hillary’s announcement was the announcement itself. The announcement was the first day of Hillary Clinton 2016…”

This is indeed the only conclusion that can be drawn. If Hillary had really withdrawn from politics “after 20 years on the high wire”, as she put it, then it wouldn’t matter to her if anybody knew of her change of heart concerning gay marriage. IOW, if she felt she was out of the game, why would she come out with a public statement? The only conclusion is that she is already beginning her 2016 bid.

Incidentally, I still agree with her 2007 stance on civil unions versus gay marriage, and thus not her current position; but little does that matter! I’m an old stick in the mud.

  14. Remember the times we said: ‘Hillary will come out smelling like a rose when the full story of Benghazi is told”? The pink emails:

    http://rt.com/usa/clinton-emails-guccifer-benghazi-492/

A hacker using the alias “Guccifer” was credited last week with compromising the AOL email account of Sidney Blumenthal, a 64-year-old journalist who formerly worked as an assistant to then-President Bill Clinton. Now days after the security breach was first reported, Guccifer has supplied RT and a number of other media outlets and political figures with incredibly sensitive memos that were emailed to Mr. Clinton’s wife, Hillary, in the wake of last year’s terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. [snip]

Initially, many high-up US sources said the storming of the consulate was in response to an anti-Islamic film that had been made in America and uploaded to the website YouTube. In the days after the assault, however, members of the US intelligence community offered a different explanation, saying the attack was not a spontaneous outburst prompted by the viral video clip but were instead a coordinated terrorist attack launched by associates of al-Qaeda.

According to the Blumenthal memos, though, even the US secretary of state was being fed disinformation directly after the attack. In the email dated Sept. 12, Sec. Clinton is told that the anti-Islamic film was likely the catalyst for the assault.

“A senior security officer told [interim Libyan President Mohammed Yussef] el Magariaf that the attacks on that day were inspired by what many devout Libyans viewed as a sacrilegious internet video on the prophet Mohammed originating in America,” the memo reads. “The Libya attacks were also inspired by and linked to an attack on the US mission in Egypt on the same day.”

Elsewhere in the first memo, Blumenthal tells Clinton that another source had even more to say about the assault:

“According to a separate sensitive source, el Magariaf noted that his opponents had often tried to connect him to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) through the National Front for the Salvation of Libya (NFSL), a group established in opposition to former dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi, which el Magariaf led in the 1980s. In the opinion of this individual el Magariaf believes that he can survive potential negative publicity in this regard, but if this situation continues to develop in this manner it will complicate his efforts to establish an orderly administration in the country. Again, he stated that the attacks on the US missions were as much a result of the atmosphere created by this campaign, as the controversial video.”

Later on, “a very sensitive source” is cited as saying that the Libyan president’s enemies are likely “working to take advantage of his suspected links to the CIA at a time when Western intelligence services are under scrutiny in Libya.”

Five months later, though, another memo sent to Mrs. Clinton painted a much different picture of what was happening abroad. An email dated Feb. 16, 2013 contains the subject line “Algeria/Libya/Terrorism” and touches on possible connections between the Benghazi assault and the January 2013 hostage crisis in In Amenas, Algeria near the Libyan border. In that dispatch, links are drawn between both major incidents.

We should all exercise caution in reading these emails. We still don’t know if they are authentic (although they appear to be so and let’s add that Guccifer probably is a Russian front operative). We also know they are being selectively released to create an impression.

Palestinians in Bethlehem set fire to pictures of US President Barack Obama on Monday, saying he was not welcome in their city.

Scores of protesters gathered near Manger Square and threw shoes at a US diplomatic vehicle as it arrived at the scene as part of preparations for Obama’s visit to the city later this week.

The protesters also set fire to signs posted in the city earlier this week reminding Obama that Palestinians still don’t have 3G communications technology.

Similar anti-Obama demonstrations are expected to take place in Ramallah and other Palestinian cities in the coming days.

Palestinian Authority policemen did not intervene to stop the Bethlehem demonstrators from burning the pictures of Obama.

A PA security officer said that the PA would not act against those who seek permission to protest against Obama’s visit.

There were even indications that the PA leadership was encouraging or initiating some of the protests.

  20. The Russians Think We’re Wrecking the World on PurposeMarch 19th, 2013 – 1:09 pm

“In Russia, most analysts, politicians and ordinary citizens believe in the unlimited might of America, and thus reject the notion that the US has made, and continues to make, mistakes in the [Middle East]. Instead, they assume it’s all a part of a complex plan to restructure the world and to spread global domination,” writes Fyodor Lukyanov on the Al Monitor website today. Lukyanov, who chairs Russia’s Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, laments what he derides as a “conspiracy theory.” Nonetheless, he reports, President Vladimir Putin and the Russian elite think that the United States is spreading chaos as part of a diabolical plot for world domination:

From Russian leadership’s point of view, the Iraq War now looks like the beginning of the accelerated destruction of regional and global stability, undermining the last principles of sustainable world order. Everything that’s happened since — including flirting with Islamists during the Arab Spring, U.S. policies in Libya and its current policies in Syria — serve as evidence of strategic insanity that has taken over the last remaining superpower.

Russia’s persistence on the Syrian issue is the product of this perception. The issue is not sympathy for Syria’s dictator, nor commercial interests, nor naval bases in Tartus. Moscow is certain that if continued crushing of secular authoritarian regimes is allowed because America and the West support “democracy,” it will lead to such destabilization that will overwhelm all, including Russia. It’s therefore necessary for Russia to resist, especially as the West and the United States themselves experience increasing doubts.

It’s instructive to view ourselves through a Russian mirror. The term “paranoid Russian” is a pleonasm. “The fact is that all Russian politicians are clever. The stupid ones are all dead. By contrast, America in its complacency promotes dullards. A deadly miscommunication arises from this asymmetry. The Russians cannot believe that the Americans are as stupid as they look, and conclude that Washington wants to destroy them,” I wrote in 2008 under the title “Americans play monopoly, Russians chess.” Russians have dominated chess most of the past century, for good reason: it is the ultimate exercise in paranoia. All the pieces on the board are guided by a single combative mind, and every move is significant. In the real world, human beings flail and blunder. For Russian officials who climbed the greasy pole in the intelligence services, mistakes are unthinkable, for those who made mistakes are long since buried.

  21. Obama had hoped that diplomats could persuade Iran to back off at a meeting in Almaty in Kazakhstan. James Blitz says: “But senior western diplomats say that a further round of technical discussions was held on Monday in Istanbul and that this did not go well at all. According to one senior western official I have spoken to: ‘The Istanbul meeting went badly wrong and there’s a sense now that the whole process is delivering nothing.’”

That would be par for the course. But sooner or later, like the chemical weapons, the red line will be crossed in a manner so unmistakable that a crisis cannot be avoided.

The administration has proved remarkably vulnerable to manipulation by enemy intelligence. A hacker named “Guccifer” recently broke into the email accounts of Sidney Blumenthal, who was an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In his emails, Blumental accidentally recorded himself spoon-feeding disinformation by the Libyan officials to Hillary Clinton. He wrote to Clinton that “a senior security officer told [interim Libyan President Mohammed Yussef] el Magariaf that the attacks on that day were inspired by what many devout Libyans viewed as a sacrilegious internet video on the prophet Mohammed originating in America.”

Later Blumenthal passed on a different story.

This individual adds that this information provided by the French service indicates that the funding for both attacks originated with wealthy Sunni Islamists in Saudi Arabia. During July and August 2012, these financers provided funds to AQIM contacts in Southern Europe, who in turn passed the money into AQIM operatives in Mauritania. These funds were eventually provided to Ansar al Sharia and its allied militias in the Benghazi region in support of their attack on the US consulate. The money was used to recruit operatives and purchase ammunition and supplies.

How “intelligence” like this is evaluated is an open question, but the Mohammed-video incident shows how gullible the administration can be. It cannot be discounted that Obama is being played like a fiddle by Islamist diplomats. And done once, then why not again? No wonder the president’s foreign policy in the Middle East is “mysterious.” A sufficiently “confused,” “meandering,” and “deluded” policy is indistinguishable from “mysterious.”

  22. Netanyahu and Obama press conference is on now. Bibi is boxing Obama in with praise while focusing on Iran and the nuclear threat. Bibi says “we have the right and the capability to defend ourselves.”

  23. First question to Obama from Israeli reporter: ‘You said Syria using chemical weapons is a red line. Syria has now used chemical weapons, what are you going to do?’

Obama: “I will investigate.” Then, waffle, waffle.

  24. Shadowboxing between Obama and Netanyahu at the press conference. Bibi responds to the first question with a mocking reference to an earlier episode at the tarmac involving a red tape which Obama mocked as a “red line”. Bibi makes it clear in his answer that Israel will defend itself. Obama then responds to that by adding one final point which is designed to lessen Netanyahu’s response about Iran and red lines.

This press conference (and trip) is one barely disguised knife fight.

  27. Top House Republicans were invited to Israel with President Barack Obama, but did not attend because of the congressional schedule, sources on Capitol Hill and at the White House say.

Most notably, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) declined an invitation to attend a Jerusalem state dinner in honor of Obama because Congress is voting on government funding and the 2014 budget this week, several sources said. The White House invited Cantor to Obama’s speech in Jerusalem.

The Israeli government, of course, is running the state dinner that they are throwing in honor of Obama. But the White House suggested a slate of American dignitaries to invite, according to a source familiar with the trip.

Administration sources said a broad swath of members of Congress was invited to accompany Obama.

“We invited a group of bipartisan members, representing leadership, relevant committees and prominent Jewish members,” an administration source said. “Given the congressional schedule, most could not make it.”

  28. Barky finds shovel-ready project in Israel ROFLOFLOFLOFL
Tree Obama gifted to Israel ‘dug up’ by order of agriculture ministry
Israeli news website reports that the tree bypassed checks required on plants coming into the country from abroad
After the earlier indignity of the presidential limo breakdown, there are now reports of another snafu to hit Barack Obama’s visit to Israel.
The tree brought as a gift to Israel by Obama, and planted earlier on Wednesday, is now said to have been dug up.
The Times of Israel quotes the Israeli news website Ynet saying that the magnolia tree, planted by Obama and Israeli president Shimon Peres, had not undergone the requisite checks.
According to the Times of Israel:
Ynet is reporting that by order of the Agriculture Ministry, the magnolia tree brought from the US by the president and planted by Obama and Peres earlier this afternoon is being dug up. Really.
Plants cannot be brought in from abroad “without undergoing a check” by the ministry, the report quotes the bureaucrats as saying. If this were April 1, we’d assume this was a wind-up.
Maariv quoted Ayelet Frish, a spokesman for the Israeli president’s office, as saying there was no diplomatic gaffe and that Israel had been aware of the Obama’s plans to bring the tree on Air Force One in advance.
Ynet quoted an agriculture ministry spokesman as saying the examination of the tree could take months. The spokesman said that the tree had been planted in a pot – apparently so it could be easily removed.
According to the LA Times, Obama said at the tree-planting ceremony: “It is an incredible honor to offer this tree to this beautiful garden, and to someone who is champion of the Israeli people and a champion of peace … And we’re very good gardeners.”
The Blaze said Obama went on to say: “I’m sure this tree is going to do great.”

  29. You would think a Preezy so “up” on everything green as this guy presumes to be … would know vegetation/animals have quarantine considerations.

  30. Shadowfax March 20, 2013 at 12:02 pm
“…Bibi is the Prime Minister, and yet Israel also has a President, Peres? What’s up with that???”

No big deal. A lot of countries, especially European republics, have Presidents and prime ministers. It’s a reflection of royal states where you have a king or prince, who is head of state, and a prime minister who is head of government.

The US is singular in that it is the only country I know of where one man (woman one day) is both head of state and head of government – the POTUS. The position of VP is also singular to the US.

If you have a hard time seizing this state/government concept, it’s because you haven’t lived in or read much about countries outside the US.

The position of President in Israel is a weak one because the President is elected by the Knesset. In countries where the President is elected by direct universal suffrage, the President is the most powerful person in the state apparatus – as in France and all east European countries (which adopted the French constitution) including Russia.

  31. jesw

Thanks for explaining, are all Prime Ministers normally the ones with the most power and elected by the people…and the President more figureheads like the Queen of England?

I remember being taught about this in high school, but it didn’t make sense to me then either…kinda dense in this respect.

  32. To further specify: In the Presidential system (France, eastern Europe), the President is the representative of the state before foreign powers and thus has direct control over the “regal” ministries (foreign affairs, defense, foreign aid and thus finances) and leaves day-to-day domestic affairs to the Prime Minister and his ministries. The President also signs all bills into law and can veto them.

In Israel and other countries where the President is elected by the legislative body and not directly by the people, the President can (theoretically) disband parliament and call for new elections, and then choose the new Prime Minister. He cannot veto a bill and does not have to sign it into law.

This latter system is the way the French 3rd and 4th Republics worked and the result was governments that lasted an average of ten days to two weeks. De Gaulle called this a “bordel” (literally “whorehouse”, but it means a mess or general fuckup in French) and instituted the 5th Republic with the Presidential system that eastern European countries adopted 30 years later.

  33. “… are all Prime Ministers normally the ones with the most power and elected by the people…”

No Prime Ministers I know of are elected by the people. They are appointed by the President or monarch, and thus occupy the “ejection seat” – i.e., when things go wrong or the people are unhappy, it’s the PM who gets the ax. In which case, the President either chooses a new PM or dissolves parliament and calls for new elections. The President’s term is fixed.

In the Presidential system (European republics except Germany), the President is elected by direct universal suffrage and is thus the “President of all the French” or Poles or whatever, and that is why the President in this case is the most powerful person in the state apparatus – he has a universal constituency which is of course far broader than any congressman can claim, or senator for that matter.

The German system is like the Israeli system, with the President elected not by the people but by parliament, as was the President in the French 3rd and 4th Republics.

It is much to Angela Merkel’s credit that she has been able to hold together and strengthen an unlikely coalition with Liberals – but I think that is because the German economy is so strong.

“So in your examples above, who do the people vote into office?”

In all republics, the people vote their legislators into office. In the weak presidential systems, the legislators then vote the president into office, and the president appoints the PM, who has no electoral base.

In the strong presidential system, the people also all vote the President into office for a fixed term, which gives the President extensive powers. In addition to his hold over the “regal” ministries I mentioned, he can take control of the Ministry of the Interior (Police) in the event of terrorist attacks, civil strife or imminent danger of war, suspend civil liberties and so forth. Of course, there are guarantees against this becoming a dictatorship – he cannot suspend, abolish or disband the parliament during this time and the parliament has to approve his takeover and will judge him on the results.

One example of such a takeover was when the Paris suburbs exploded into violence in 2006 with hundreds of car burnings reported nightly on the news for 17 days running. It was reported worldwide. Chirac forced the TV stations and other news outlets to broadcast a call for calm from him, and then forbade them to publish or show any more of the violence on TV or in the papers. The violence stopped on the 18th day and it was all over, no need for a vote by parliament.

  34. Update: First, “The Beast” broke down (hint: it’s not Michelle). Second, several appearances with Netanyahu which on the surface are friendly but the astute eye could see Bibi boxing in the Boob. Third, a tree might grow in Brooklyn but Israelis know the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree and to beware of Obamas bearing gifts and that atree doesn’t fall far from the Limo.

‘This Is A Pointless Trip,’ Obama Says While Shaking Hands With Netanyahu

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL—Moments after stepping out from Air Force One Wednesday, President Barack Obama reportedly greeted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Ben Gurion International Airport, shook his hand, smiled, leaned in, and told the Israeli leader that “this is a completely pointless visit and a waste of everyone’s time.” “This trip will accomplish nothing,” Obama reportedly said out of the corner of his mouth while he and Netanyahu smiled broadly and waved to the gathered crowd. “You won’t do what I want when it comes to stopping Israeli settlements, and I can’t do what you want in terms of dismissing Palestine. Now, pretend to laugh at what I just said so it appears like we get along.” As Obama walked up the tarmac with his arm around Netanyahu’s shoulder, the President said he basically traveled 5,000 miles for a meaningless photo op, at which point both men turned around, waved one last time, and stepped into a waiting limousine.

Pointing at Rhodes, Obama said to Netanyahu, “Just remember that anything offensive that I say, it’s because of him.” Obama then pointed out that Ben’s brother, David, runs CBS News and has a “proud Jewish mother.”

Netanyahu quipped, “It sounds like a very incestuous relationship,

  46. From Asian Times

Speaking truth to impotence in the Middle East
    By Spengler

It’s hard to imagine an unhappier man than Barack Obama’s aide Benjamin Rhodes, whose ”anguish” is the subject of a March 15 New York Times profile. What keeps the 35-year-old Deputy National Security Advisor up nights is the 70,000 casualties in two years of civil war in Syria, and the likelihood that whatever the United States does to help the Syrian opposition will leave more people dead.

Rhodes came to Washington with a rescue fantasy about the Muslim world and a sentimental obsession that the job of American foreign policy was to protect civilians from harm.

America is now impotent in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe

that is spreading from Syria to Iraq and Lebanon. The idealists of the present administration and its predecessor are the proximate cause of the bloodshed.

Rhodes, who drafted Obama’s 2009 Cairo address, is the President’s alter ego on Muslim matters, according to the Times account. ”Drawing on personal ties and a philosophical kinship with Mr. Obama that go back to the 2008 campaign, Mr Rhodes helped prod his boss to take a more activist policy toward Egypt and Libya when those countries erupted in 2011,” wrote reporter Mark Landler. ”Mr Rhodes, his friends and colleagues said, is deeply frustrated by a policy that is not working, and has become a strong advocate for more aggressive efforts to support the Syrian opposition.” Landler adds:
Normally, the anguish of a White House deputy would matter little to the direction of American foreign policy. But Mr Rhodes has had a knack for making himself felt, not just in the way the president expresses his policies but in how he formulates them. Two years ago, when protesters thronged Tahrir Square in Cairo, Mr Rhodes urged Mr Obama to withdraw three decades of American support for President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt. A few months later, Mr Rhodes was among those agitating for the president to back a NATO military intervention in Libya to head off a slaughter by Col Muammar el-Qaddafi.
Syria’s Sunni majority started an insurgency against the minority Alawite government of Basher al-Assad in response to the ill-named Arab Spring uprisings in North Africa. America’s abrupt dismissal of its long-ally Hosni Mubarak and the ascendancy of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood emboldened Syria’s long-suffering Sunni majority to stake its claim to power. Like Mubarak, the Assads suppressed the Muslim Brothers, but far more viciously, leveling the Sunni town of Hama in 1982 with casualties estimated at between 20,000 and 40,000.

Western policy thus provoked Syria’s civil war. The prospect of a Sunni fundamentalist regime in Egypt under American patronage, the emergence of the ”Sunni Awakening” in Iraq during the Petraeus ”surge”, and the victory of Western-backed Sunni jihadists over Libya’s Gaddafi, gave Syria’s Sunnis little choice. America’s fecklessness with respect to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, moreover, gave Saudi Arabia and Turkey strategic reasons to fund and arm various branches of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood.

In this tightly scripted tragedy, America’s blundering provided the impetus for each step, except, of course, for the blundering of the European Union. The Europeans forced Assad to undertake agricultural reforms among the conditions for a new trade treaty, forcing tens of thousands of small farmers off their land in the Sunni Northeast of the country, into tent cities around Damascus.

Iran responded to the Sunni insurgency in the obvious way, by sending Revolutionary Guard regulars as well as its Lebanese-based Hezbollah auxiliaries into Syria to fight for its ally, the Assad regime. Iran’s involvement prevents the loosely organized insurgent coalition from toppling a minority regime.

The depleted ranks of the regular Syrian army will be replenished with Iranian soldiers or surrogates. The Alawite regime will continue to commit atrocities in order to convince its own base as well as the Syria’s Christian, Kurdish and Druze minorities that they must fight to the death because Sunni vengeance would be horrible. Saudi Arabia will continue to filter jihadists and weapons into Syria and Turkey will continue to provide logistical support.

It is a matter of simple logic that countries composed of potentially warring ethnic and sectarian constituencies can only be stable under minority rule. Majority rule would threaten the existence of minorities and give them cause to fight to the death. That is why the Ba’ath party of Syria (founded by the Christian Michel Aflaq) ruled through the Alawite minority with Christian support, while the Ba’ath party of Iraq ruled through the Sunni minority with Christian support, including Saddam Hussein’s deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz. In both cases, the Christians supported a minority regime that would be more likely to tolerate minorities.

The correct American policy response to the unraveling of the Arab world was to neutralize Iran, specifically, destroying its capacity to make nuclear weapons and reducing the Revolutionary Guards. With Iran de-fanged, the Syrian conflict would have burned itself out by now.

Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah fighters would not have reinforced the Assad regime, and the Saudis and Turks would not have sponsored Sunni insurgents. Life in Egypt and Syria would have been miserable, even violent, but the violence would have remained localized. It was time for Mubarak to go, but America might have smoothed the transition in cooperation with the military and the small minority of demographic reformers.

It should not be a controversial statement that Arab civilization is at existential risks. Countries that cannot feed themselves, like Egypt and Syria, are at extreme risk by definition. But there is a huge difference between a gradual, manageable decline and an eruption of violence where the fighters on both sides believe that they have nothing to lose by fighting to the bitter end. With craft and foresight, America might have achieved the former; it has provoked the latter by piling error atop error.

American blunders through two administrations have set a regional Sunni-Shi’ite war in motion that the utopians in Washington are powerless to prevent. Young Mr Rhodes, who crafted the ”responsibility to protect” rubric under which American intervened against Gaddafi, can do nothing to protect the millions of Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis and others who will be drawn into the maelstrom. The resignation last month of the National Security Council’s human rights chief, the anti-genocide campaigner Samantha Power, might be an omen: the bungling do-gooders may not want to stick around to see the consequences of their mistakes.

From the Republican side, the ill omen came from the Conservative Political Action Committee retreat last week in Maryland, where the Kentucky isolationist Senator Rand Paul won the straw poll for the next Republican presidential nomination. Paul and his constituents want no foreign policy at all. That, in effect, is what we have at the Obama White House. It may turn into a bi-partisan consensus.

The liberal interventionists of the Obama administration may have set in motion one of history’s biggest humanitarian catastrophes, while the hawkish interventionists of the Republican party may have persuaded American voters to switch off the world news for a generation.

  47. Lord protect us from ambitious, delusional staffers, like Rhodes who can manipulate their delusional bosses into acts of grand folly. Before this thing is through, Rhoades will have the blood of a million people on his hands. They say he is anguished? Sorry, anguished doesn’t quite cut it.

  51. 2. Mitch McConnell Votes to Fund Obamacare

Hey, remember that awesome CPAC speech by Mitch McConnell?

The one where Mitch McConnell said — and I quote — “Obamacare should be repealed root and branch. And we’re not backing down from this fight.”

And the same speech where Mitch McConnell also said, “This law is a disaster, and anybody who thinks we’ve moved beyond it is dead wrong.”

Well, as I told you, Mitch McConnell excels at saying one thing and doing another. Yesterday, Mitch McConnell voted to fund Obamacare.

Hey Utah, he joined Orrin Hatch in doing so. Remember, just last year on the campaign trail Orrin Hatch told you all how he was going to absolutely fight to rid us of Obamacare at all costs. And he got a large portion of the conservative movement to cheer him on as a result.

Yeah, that Orrin Hatch voted to fund Obamacare too.

And now for the punchline — the majority of the Republicans in the Senate voted against funding Obamacare. McConnell and Hatch were in the minority of Republicans who chose to side with the Democrats and fund Obamacare

President Barack Obama has finally brought Congress together with one common goal: to oppose his ruinous energy policies. Why do you think he’s fighting even those of his own party over the Keystone pipeline?

    http://personalliberty.com/2013/03/20/obamas-keystone-kops/
    ******
Just more Street theater; it’s too bad that journalists are extinct because the “keystone” story is probably worth a Pulitzer. Small, seemingly unrelated stories appear about “Keystone” but there is no one, that I have read that is trying to connect the dots. What seem to be the facts are:

    1) The “pipeline” really has little to do with American energy or job but with getting land locked Canadian oil to Gulf Coast refineries so that it cam be exported for more money. The oil companies and the Canadian gov’t are loosing about $100 billion a year due to heavy discounting.
    2) The “blockage of flow of Canadian and North Dakota oil to the Gulf Coast is at Cushing OK and the Obama Adm is pushing the building of the Southern portion of the Keystone XL and retrofitting existing pipelines.
3)Once the flow is improved to the Gulf Coast, fuel prices are going to go up at least in the upper Mid-West, this will have an impact on farmers.

A most interesting story appeared a few weeks ago about rail transport of oil from Canada and North Dakota. Rail and trucks are transporting all that is available and can transport more. With Obama, the bottom line is “Who Benefits” in the pay to play. Well, two of the biggest winners of the delay in starting the Northern portion of the pipeline are Obama’s favorite billionaires, Warren Buffet and the GE CEO and Obama Job Czar Jeffrey Immelt. Buffett bought the BNSF railroad (the major transporter of oil) in 2010 for $44 billion; what would have happened to the stock price in 2010 if Obama approved the trans-Canada pipeline? General Electric, in addition to building locomotives, has the largest fleet of oil tanker rail cars for lease.

    Follow the money!!

  56. “Arafat had a chance to embrace Bill Clinton’s peace plan and there would have been a Palestinian state decades ago. But it is not about a Palestinian state it is about the destruction of Israel.’

Even if there was a Palestinian in a leadership position who agreed to a two state solution, it would be a suicidal act. We will never know since such a person hasn’t and will never exist.
