Two Trains Running – Barack Obama’s Real Sequester Strategy: Set-Up The GOP For Blame When The Obama Economy Tanks Again Into Recession

Update II: As we wrote “The only way to beat a thug is to fight a thug.” Bob Woodward is finding out what the Chicago thug way is. Bob Woodward: The White House told me I’d regret challenging them.

Woodward discovers Nixon was a liberal pussycat compared to the totalitarian thugs in the White House now. [We never thought we would never ever have a kind word to say about Nixon. We’re sure Woodward feels the same way as we do.]

—————————————————————–

Update: The only way to beat a thug is to fight a thug. But the Republicans are cowards always looking for a way out of a fight. The latest brain-dead stupidity? Inhofe, Toomey: Hey, why don’t we give Obama some flexibility on sequestration?

Yeah, that’s the ticket. Fight Obama’s abuse of power by… giving him some more power. Brilliant! Just think of the frying pan into fire possibilities. Republican governors will find the cuts hit their states while Obama Dimocrats will keep all the funding. Spending in swing districts will be politically determined with an eye towards 2014. Republican congressional districts will get cuts while Obama Dimocrat districts get funding.

Hey stupids – it won’t be fraud, waste, and abuse that gets cut. Obama has already released illegal aliens from detention centers claiming the sequester made him do it.

National security is something real presidents care about. Not Barack Obama. “The Defense Department said in early February that it would not deploy the U.S.S. Harry Truman to the Persian Gulf, citing budget concerns relating to the looming cuts known as the sequester.” Bob Woodward calls it “Madness That I Haven’t Seen In A Long Time”. It’s not madness, it’s political corruption. And you want to give this guy more power to use tax dollars to beat you over the head? Just how stupid are you? Seriously. How stupid are you?

—————————————————————–

Republican “leaders” would profit by asking themselves this question and coming up with a logical, non-emotional, answer: Why did Barack Obama wait 16 months, until 2013, to begin a fight against the sequester he himself proposed and swore to defend by veto against congressional Republicans?

To answer this question you must understand the mind of a flim-flam con man. A flim-flam con man always has two trains running and at the calculated flim-flam time he (or she) jumps from one train unto the train going to his real destination. Thus it is with Barack Obama the flim-flam con man.

It’s not about the sequester ladies and gentlemen. Barack Obama is running around the country talking about the catastrophe to come if the sequestration of funds occurs this Thursday at midnight – the end of February. But Barack Obama’s real purpose is to target low information voters and say that his warnings about sequestration were correct when the economy goes into recession again. Obama will say “see I told you so, Republicans are to blame for this latest recession just like George W. Bush was to blame for the last recession.”

Why did Obama wait 16 months, until 2013, to begin his Henny-Penny “sky is falling” campaign? What is motivating Barack Obama? The negative economic report of the last quarter of 2012 is what drives the Obama strategy of political self-preservation. Barack Obama is politically preparing for the next recession by setting up the bowling pins called Boehner and McConnell.

In our previous article we pointed out that when Obama Dimocrats shout “RACISM!” low information voters think Obama Dimocrats fight against racism and are therefore a bulwark against racism. The GOP lack of shouting “RACISM!” informs low information voters that Republicans/conservatives don’t care about racism. The same strategy aimed at low information voters will be used to pass the buck and blame Republicans/conservatives for the Obama recession to come.

* * * * * *

The Republican/conservative strategy should be to pin the blame on Obama for the bad Obama economy. The Republican/conservative message should be that Obama is wrecking the American economy with higher taxes which strangle growth. The Republican/conservative message should be that instead of growing the economy by approving the Keystone Pipeline and other measures to bring down gas prices in the future Obama goes on vacation after vacation and campaign event after campaign event spouting lies upon lies.

Once the sequester takes effect this Friday the Republican strategy should be to point out that instead of the ‘maximum pain to the public’ cuts implemented by Barack Obama (as Charles Krauthammer has correctly analyzed) Obama should have painlessly cut elsewhere (and Republicans should provide explicit examples of budget items that can easily and painlessly be cut). But the important portion of the message is ‘Obama is destroying the economy because he either does not know what he is doing or what he does is wrong on many levels and that is why the economy is in trouble.’

By blaming Obama’s incompetence or purposeful sabotage of the economy Republicans/conservatives will be prepping the battlefield for when the economy goes back into recession and Obama tries to spring his trap.

Instead of the above, Republicans/conservatives are fixated on the sequester and who did what to whom and what does the sequester really do and other assorted nonsense. The current Republican/conservative strategy does not make sense.

Even attentive voters don’t really know what the sequester is or the history behind it or who is to blame for the silly policy. Low information voters know even less about the sequester. All low information voters have likely heard is Obama saying that the sequester is bad and that it is Republican policy.

As we have stated, Barack Obama has not really cared about the sequester he knew was scheduled for the end of February. Obama did not bother to call House Speaker Boehner or Senate Minority Leader McConnell until last Thursday. What caused the change from ignoring the sequester to campaigning against the sequester? The answer is that one horrible report from the end of last year that reached Obama’s large ears – that got his attention.

Why did Obama get so worried after that negative economic trajectory report in the last quarter of 2012? You’d be worried too if the economy went into negative territory during the Christmas holiday shopping season when the economy should soar with ease. But even this reason is too generous to Barack Obama. This reason presupposes that an American president cares about the economy. Barack Obama only cares about himself and that is what has him worried.

Barack Obama is worried about that fourth quarter report because it threatens him. Obama apologist Ronald Brownstein explains:

“What Unites Obama’s Coalition — and What Could Divide It [snip]

Most worrisome for Obama was the poll’s finding that just 40 percent of adults approved of his handling of the economy, while 56 percent disapproved. Strikingly that discontent extended beyond groups like noncollege whites, always dubious of him, into constituencies at the heart of his coalition. While about two-thirds of African-Americans gave him positive marks for his economic performance, they were joined by only 52 percent of Hispanics, 44 percent of college-educated white women—and, most notably, just 40 percent of all adults ages 18 to 29 and only 31 percent of younger whites. Indeed, Obama’s economic approval rating among all whites stood at a microscopic 31 percent.

Those numbers underscore the concern of a senior White House adviser, who argued in a recent interview that while issues like climate, gun control, and immigration reform are all providing Obama opportunities to connect his coalition with the Democratic Party in a way that could outlast him, the success of that project will also pivot on his ability to deliver better economic results for average families.

“As we think about issues like immigration, climate and guns, we realize the president was reelected because people trusted his approach on the economy,” the adviser said. “He made it somewhat better, but the job was not done. If we do not focus on completing the middle-class project that he started … then nothing else we do matters.”

Obama has to keep his Hopium Guzzlers together and he can do what with regular injections of the drug. But the low information voters he bamboozled into voting for him with a fear/smear campaign against a complacent Mitt Romney have to be propagandized for the Obama recession to come. That’s why Obama began his campaign against the sequester after the 4th quarter economic report was published in January.

The danger for Obama, even as Republicans stay focused on the sequester not the larger strategic battlefield of Obama’s failures on the economy, is that Americans understand the science of diets (which this funny cartoon illustrates so well).

For all the attention it is getting the sequester is not the game (which is why E.J. Dionne’s advice to accept the sequester and “move on” is smart if it was about the sequester). Jonathan Karl at ABC: Devastating sequester cuts? Give me a break! Ladies and gentlemen, this fight is not about the sequester.

Republicans/conservatives who stay focused on the sequester are helping Barack Obama. The real fight is Barack Obama’s failure of leadership on the economy and the real possibility of an Obama recession to come. Barack Obama does not want Americans to know this. Do Republicans?

    (video at link)

    “CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Cutting is always attractive in the abstract but in the details it rarely is because there are constituencies who get affected if you have cuts. But the cynicism of the campaign of this administration is astonishing. The assumption is that somehow at every stage of the expansion of the liberal federal government we have reached a platonic ideal and that if you cut a dollar off that, it’s as if God had devised exactly the size of government America needs and any cut leads to Armageddon.

    What we’re talking about here is two cents on the dollar. Every dollar the government spends today, 35 cents is borrowed from the Chinese and others. What is going on here is ending up in a position where we borrow not 35, but 33 cents, and that is going to bring Armageddon. An example of the cynicism of this campaign, is one lobbyist for the liberal causes leading 3,000 organizations in opposing the cuts, who told The Washington Post the following: ‘The worst case scenario is the sequester hits and nothing really bad happens.’

    Think of the cynicism of that. The worst case scenario is that the government makes a small, minuscule cut in spending on the way to beginning of a journey of recovery in to fiscal health, and that it doesn’t hurt us, we actually come out of it alive. And, that to them, is the worst case. It means, think of how they are weighing the national interest, which needs a cut in spending and these parochial special interests.” (Special Report, February 25, 2013)

    I see what you mean admin, first – for months the media talks about the economy getting better, while everyone looks around and sees no such thing.

    Then, the flim flam calf refuses to negotiate, he just keeps selling the same ol’ snake oil out of his bazillion dollar plane ride.

    O’ then blames the lack of compromise on Republican’s for not giving him a blank check on spending, and the ‘recession/depression’ continues.

    Hillary Clinton PAC Staffs Up

    Former Ohio Democratic Party communications director Seth Bringman joins “Ready for Hillary,” a source tells BuzzFeed. The first major outside group gets serious about 2016.

    The “Ready for Hillary” political action committee, founded late last month in support of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s possible bid for the presidency in 2016, has made its first major hire and is gearing up to expand further, a source familiar with the group tells BuzzFeed.

    Seth Bringman, who served as communications director of the Ohio Democratic Party from 2009 to 2012, has joined “Ready for Hillary” in the same capacity.

    Before working for the state party, he was a communications staffer on Clinton’s first presidential campaign in 2008. Bringman, now doing work for a public relations consulting firm, will continue to work from Columbus, Ohio, for the PAC, said the source.

    The PAC, filed Jan. 25 with the Federal Election Committee, is the first major effort by an outside group to get in front of a presidential race that hasn’t started and a candidate who hasn’t declared.

    But Bringman’s hire suggests that the PAC’s founders — Allida Black and Adam Parkhomenko, both based in northern Virginia — are serious about fundraising and organizing support for Hillary Clinton. The “Ready for Hillary” site is already up and running, and the group’s Twitter account boasts more than 51,000 followers.

    Black, also the PAC’s chairwoman, is a professor at George Washington University who volunteered as a fundraiser for Clinton’s campaign in 2008, and Parkhomenko went to work in 2003 for then-Senator Clinton’s campaign committees — Friends of Hillary, HILLPAC, and Hillary Clinton for President.

    “Ready for Hillary,” says the source close to the group, is making plans to hire additional staffers and possibly expand into different parts of the country, although the PAC hasn’t purchased headquarters space yet in either Virginia or Ohio, the source said.

    I appreciate this article and agree with most of it except for one important caveat.

    I don’t think the pos gives a flying fig what happens. He’s not running for re(s)election again. It’s no big deal to him how badly the country is damaged. In fact, the worse off Americans are, the better from his POV.

    “The real fight is Barack Obama’s failure of leadership on the economy and the real possibility of an Obama recession to come. Barack Obama does not want Americans to know this.”

    IMHO he doesn’t give a d#@mn. He’s got nothing to lose.

    😆

  • His tactics of fearmongering over the notion that the sequester will send the nation into a tailspin and increasing public pressure on congressional Republicans to avert an $85 billion in budget cuts may be transparent, but the “low information” voters and those who still trust this scoundrel are likely to buy into Obama’s “infrastructural Armageddon” scenario, particularly if the sequestration comes to pass.

    With our economy at critical mass as it is, and considering this administrations’ actions to date, Obama’s presentation transcended theater and misrepresentation; it was a full-fledged campaign of incomprehensibly audacious, bald-faced lies. He summarily disregards the elephant in the room: That question of how we are to avert economic implosion if the government absolutely refuses to cut spending on anything. The press of course, refuses to ask the question of him.

    I guess I just don’t see how the pos is harmed by anything at this point. The press continues its 24/7 covering of his butt, the low-info and white-guilt voters remain enthralled and the repubs are terrified to stand up to him. He’s got nothing to fear and nothing to lose.

    Even Barky in the NYT a couple of days ago was quoted as saying that he’s not sure how effective all his endless campaigning is doing.

    Basically, he goes around the country with valiant men and women standing behing him (firefighters, policemen, armed forces, nurses, teachers, etc.) saying “Republicans are going to get all these brave peopel fired!!!”, and the crowd goes, “Booooo….”.

    Then he flies back to D.C., and complains that no one wants to negotiate with him.

    Meanwhile, he barely seeks to contact either the House or the Senate, Dem or Repub…He wouldn’t know what to say. “Ummmm, errr, gee, no teleprompter here in the Oval Office”.

    List of Shame: Republicans Who Voted to Confirm Plainly-Unqualified Man to Lead the Defense Department
    —Ace

    Via Allah. Remember them, and call them out as liars when they claimed they voted “against” Hagel. They did not.

    Alexander
    Ayotte
    Blunt
    Burr
    Chambliss
    Coburn
    Collins
    Corker
    Flake
    Graham
    Hatch
    McCain
    Murkowski
    Sessions
    Thune

    Now that’s the list of people who voted “Yes” on cloture (guaranteeing Hagel’s confirmation) but then cast a covering, false vote on the nomination itself (a meaningless gesture made for political purposes).

    Interestingly, some people voted the other way around — voting “No” on cloture but then “Yes” on the nomination itself.

    Among them? Rand Paul, who’s attempting to both be a Mainstream Conservative and also play to his father’s supporters with their, um… views on Israel.

    The media propogandists are at it again. This time it is ABC’s turn.

    Go to the link to see the full edit for “time” as ABC is now claiming.
    ____________________________________________________

    In an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts aired this morning, First Lady Michelle Obama recalled the tragic death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton who was shot and killed in Chicago after performing during the President’s Inauguration celebration in Washington D.C.

    “She was caught in the line of fire because some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need,” the First Lady explained. “I just don’t want to keep disappointing our kids in this country. I want them to know that we put them first.”

    Chicago police reported, however, that Pendleton was shot by a man who “opened fire with a handgun before fleeing in a waiting car” according to the Associated Press.

    It is extremely unlikely that the murder weapon was an automatic handgun, an extremely rare occurrence, even in the streets of Chicago. An overwhelming majority of handguns bought and sold in America are semi-automatic. Police officials have not recovered the firearm, but prosecutors stated that the accused attacker shot “at least six times” into the crowd.

    For the broadcast, ABC’s Good Morning America producers edited out the First Lady’s “automatic weapon” line.

    Mikey (Bloomberg) doesn’t like Debbie Halvorsum. So his PAC put $2 MIL in Illinois and got what Dems and he had hoped for.

    The Democratic nominee to take over Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s House seat vowed in her Tuesday evening victory speech to tackle gun-related violence and take a leadership role in the national debate over gun control. Robin Kelly, a former Illinois state representative, also suggested a head-on war against the National Rifle Association, according to a report from The Associated Press.

    Southern, yes. But I did not verify his religion to the nth degree. I repeated it based upon a WorldNet article GatewayPundit quoted. My normal procedure is to go to the sites he gives and I tried but got an error. I’ll look a little more because I have been mouthing off about that. From the quoted WorldNet: Hannity then introduced U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim ever elected to Congress, who took little time to insult the program’s host.

    Another point: this blame the Republican strategy plays into the 2014 elections. If he can take the House, then there will be nothing to stop him in the last four years, least of all the Supreme Court. And that is why it is imperative for republicans to adopt the strategy laid out by Admin. Given the state of big media, nothing short of it will work. The cannot win it on ground game, because their ground game is inferior to that of the dims. They must win it on strategy, and that means disengaging from a strategy of accomodation and accountablility which has been proven not to work, and adopting a new strategy along the lines indicated above. The question: Will they heed the past and listen? Their survival, and that of the country are at stake here.

    If they play this sequester thing right, they will force Obama to choose which programs to cut, and when he cuts them two results will ensue: Either, they will have an adverse affect which they can blame on him, because he chose. Or else, they will have no effect, in which case his dire threats will be shown to be a paper tiger.

    Yes. From 2008 when he first was elected to Congress. Well actually this says only that he is known around the world for being first elected Muslim. But this is close enough for me for the moment.

    July 9, 2008
    WASHINGTON – Eight weeks into his term in Congress last year, Keith Ellison said he was “willing to do whatever I can to make some friends for America.”
    The Minneapolis Democrat, known around the world as the first Muslim in Congress, just completed his ninth trip abroad, returning this week from Africa, where he was part of a seven-member congressional delegation.
    Ellison, almost always ebullient, said he was pumped by the nascent democracies he saw taking hold across sub-Saharan Africa, from war-torn Liberia to Kenya, which just emerged from a violent election crisis.
    “Every member of our commission felt a certain sense of reinvigoration,” said Ellison, referring to the U.S. House Democracy Assistance Commission, which organized the six-country tour.
    The 10-day journey, which ended Monday, culminated in a July 4th reception at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Nairobi, Kenya, where Ellison met Sarah Hussein Onyango Obama, the grandmother of presidential candidate Barack Obama.
    For Ellison, Minnesota’s first black congressman, it was a trip of personal discovery as much as a political exchange with African parliamentarians, the ostensible purpose of the trip.
    Describing the emotion of an African-American’s first journey to Africa, he made the motion of lifting soil up to his face and holding it to his cheeks, a gesture suggesting profound respect.
    But of more urgent interest to Ellison, flipping through detailed notes on the trip, was the sense of fostering a connection between the political aspirations of Africans in their own continent and those in the rapidly growing immigrant community in the Twin Cities….

    good on Carson!
    Carson: No sneak peek for Obama
    The White House repeatedly asked Ben Carson for his speech before the rising Republican star criticized President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this month.
    Carson, a prominent neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins University, declined to do so, noting that he doesn’t put his speeches down on paper beforehand.
    I told them that I don’t have an advance copy because I don’t write out my speeches and I don’t use teleprompters …they asked more than once … I gave them the [Biblical] texts around which the remarks would be framed … I said read those texts, the remarks will be framed around those … that should have told them something,” Carson said in an interview with The Hill this week.
    His speech attracted a lot of media attention, most notably a “Ben Carson for president” piece from The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page. It also landed him on two recent Sunday political shows.
    Many on the right championed the address, which appeared to make Obama uncomfortable and has been viewed on YouTube nearly 2.8 million times.
    Liberals, including Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), criticized Carson for delivering a “political speech” during a religious event.
    But the White House, which did not comment for this article, has not criticized Carson.

    George McClellan’s Ghost Must be Advising Congressional Conservatives

    By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | February 27th, 2013 at 10:00 AM | 7

    RESIZE: AAA

    Forget John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. Conservatives in the House and Senate have been hit with the stupid stick. All I can think is that George McClellan’s ghost is whispering in their ear.

    The conservatives in Congress — forget Republican leaders for a minute — want to make their stand not on the continuing resolution to keep the government going, but on the debt ceiling.

    Each time Congress has had a debt ceiling fight, it has ended badly for the GOP. Conservatives have been rhetorically slaughtered by even conservatives in the media each time they’ve tried to block a debt ceiling increase.

    And guess what? They’ve failed every time.

    They did get sequestration, but now are witnesses their own Republican leaders flail about and lose a PR battle over something Barack Obama himself proposed.

    Conservatives in Congress are worse than Charlie Brown getting a football pulled away from them. They are more a trained circus seal who barks for a fish from Republican leaders and does a few tricks to wow the crowd.

    Right now there is a brewing continuing resolution fight. Conservatives could be demanding defunding of the federal exchange component of Obamacare and the expansion of Medicaid. Obamacare remains deeply unpopular with the public and there are more and more signs it is going to be massively more problematic for the nation.

    But no, Congressional conservatives do not want to make a stand on the continuing resolution. They’ll take sequestration and nothing else. They do not understand that they should at least ask for more and negotiate back to sequestration in the worst case scenario.

    Instead, they’ll make a stand on the debt ceiling and see it raised again. Meanwhile, they parade around like heroes for the sequester when (A) it was Obama’s idea and (B) the only freaking thing they’ve done is absolutely nothing. Sequestration was last week and will be next week the present and existing law of the land. Conservatives did jack.

    George McClellan must be designing their strategy as conservatives in Congress these days are to me one of the mysteries of the war against the leviathan.

    The Republicans do not understand how to reach the masses, aka low information voters. Their arguments based on logic and principle do not connect. The oppostion understands this and that is why these mini disaters are being orchesterated with the full complicity of the press. The press has always loved a fire.

    “It is true that the masses are uncritical, but not in the way most people imagine. The masses have their critical faculties too, but they function differently from those of private individuals. The masses are like an animal that obeys its instincts. The do not reach conclusions by reasoning. These feelings may be primitive, but they have the resistance and indestructibility of natural qualities. A once intensely felt experience in the life of the masses, like ration cards or inflation, will never again be driven out of their blood. The masses have a simple system of thinking and feeling, and anything that cannot be fitted into it disturbs them. . . I can only lead the masses if I tear them out of their apathy and make them fanatical. Only then can they be swayed.”

  • Shadowfax

    It all of this more a matter of Congressional and Oval office stupidity or is it more corruption and self interest?

    Are the voters really more stupid than ever or:

    – Have they just lost hope in thinking that politicians are fighting for their interests? Turned off to the entire process because NOTHING ever seems to get better. Repubs promise, strut their feathers and then cave anyway. The big mouths on tv bicker and talk over each other and nothing changes.

    As informed as we all are, compared to less political junkies…nothing gets better since 2008 no matter who we vote for, how many people we talk to, fret, worry or get depressed.

    We are all just standing in a big pile of steaming $hit and we are sick and tired of it.

  • Sequester Fraud Continues
    http://www.boortz.com/weblogs/

    Oh .. and these dire consequences Obama is preaching in his tax-the-rich campaign swing across the nation?

    Remember … he has direct control over just how the spending cuts for the Executive Department will be implemented .. and that’s pretty much everything except the congressional budgets and our federal courts. He can make them as painful or as benign as he wants.
    He can cut the money available for the WIC program that purportedly helps to feed the babies that mothers who can’t afford babies have, or he can work to reduce the fraud that is rampant in this program. His choice, and his choice is to make the cuts as painful as possible, and then blame the Republicans

    http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/is-anything-safe-from-the-automatic-budget-cuts-actually-a-few-things-are-20130227

    Here’s a selection, courtesy of CRS, of the government functions that will be spared when the cuts take effect on Friday:

    “Social Security benefits (old-age, survivors, and disability) and Tier 1 Railroad Retirement benefits.
    “All programs administered by the VA, and special benefits for certain World War II veterans.
    “Net interest (budget function 900). [That is, interest payments on the federal debt.]
    “Payments to individuals in the form of refundable tax credits.
    “Unobligated balances, carried over from prior years, for nondefense programs.
    “At the president’s discretion (subject to notification to Congress), military personnel accounts may be exempt entirely, or a lower sequestration percentage may apply.
    “A list of ‘other’ budget accounts and activities; readers should consult the statute for a complete list. A few selected examples include:
    activities resulting from private donations, bequests or voluntary contributions, or financed by voluntary payments for good or services;
    advances to the Unemployment Trust Fund;
    payments to various retirement, health care, and disability trust funds;
    certain Tribal and Indian trust accounts; and
    Medical Facilities Guaranty and Loan Fund.
    “Specified federal retirement and disability accounts and activities.
    “Prior legal obligations of the federal government in specified budget accounts.
    “Low-income programs, including:
    Academic Competitiveness/Smart Grant Program;
    mandatory funding under the Child Care and Development Fund;
    Child Nutrition Programs (including School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Food, and others, but excluding Special Milk);
    Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP);
    Commodity Supplemental Food Program;
    Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the TANF Contingency Fund;
    Family Support Programs;
    Federal Pell Grants;
    Medicaid;
    Foster Care and Permanency Programs;
    Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps); and
    Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
    “Medicare Part D low-income premium and cost-sharing subsidies; Medicare Part D catastrophic subsidy payments; and Qualified Individual (QI) premiums.
    “Specified economic recovery programs, including GSE Preferred Stock Purchase Agreements, the Office of Financial Stability, and the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
    “The following ‘split-treatment’ programs, to the extent that the programs’ budgetary resources are subject to obligations limitations in appropriations bills:
    Federal Aid-Highways;
    Highway Traffic Safety Grants;
    Operations and Research NHTSA and National Driver Register;
    Motor Carrier Safety Operations and Programs;
    Motor Carrier Safety Grants;
    Formula and Bus Grants; and
    Grants-in-Aid for Airports.”

    A handful of programs are to be treated under so-called special rules under sequestration. Those, according to CRS, are:

    Student loans under Title IV-B and IV-D of the Higher Education Act;
    Medicare;
    Community and migrant health centers, Indian health services and facilities, and
    Veterans’ medical care;
    Child Support Enforcement;
    Federal pay;
    Federal administrative expenses;
    Unemployment Compensation; and
    Commodity Credit Corp.

    Lets clear up some of the confusion here:

    1. Woodward won’t say who at the White House told him “you will regret this!”. Everyone in Washington knows who the senior official was in the White House told him that: Tom O’Donilon. I guarandamnteeyou.

    2. “If Obama knew this was said, he would get it stopped”? Is Woodward that naive? This is the Chicago rules and Obamaq has been practicing them ever since he first entered office. Far from stopping it, his inclination would be to double down. Not for nothing did a like minded scion from the Windy City say you get more with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word.

    3. Sequester is a threat to national security? Bullshit. There was no sequester when Benghazi happened. And that was a paradigmatic threat to national security. Government is larded with bureacrats and if some of them are furloughed, then it is more probable that not that it would be more efficient–not less. The vital functions would still continue.

    Ron Fournier: Yeah, I Got the Abusive Treatment From the WH and the Same ‘You Will Regret This’ Threat
    by ACE OF SPADES 28 Feb 2013, 8:14 AM PDT 27 POST A COMMENT
    SHARE THIS:
    Some genius said this last night:

    Now National Journal reporter Ron Fournier — whom I believe to be a liberal in good standing with his paperwork in order — drops this tidbit:
    As editor-in-chief of National Journal, I received several e-mails and telephone calls from this White House official filled with vulgarity, abusive language, and virtually the same phrase that Woodward called a veiled threat. “You will regret staking out that claim,” The Washington Post reporter was told.
    Once I moved back to daily reporting this year, the badgering intensified. I wrote Saturday night, asking the official to stop e-mailing me. The official wrote, challenging Woodward and my tweet. “Get off your high horse and assess the facts, Ron,” the official wrote.
    I wrote back:
    “I asked you to stop e-mailing me. All future e-mails from you will be on the record — publishable at my discretion and directly attributed to you. My cell-phone number is … . If you should decide you have anything constructive to share, you can try to reach me by phone. All of our conversations will also be on the record, publishable at my discretion and directly attributed to you.” I haven’t heard back from the official. It was a step not taken lightly because the note essentially ended our working relationship.
    Given that Woodward is now being called old and brokedown by David Pflouffe, and the Juicebox Mafia has picked up the “senile” message they’re putting out there… I would in fact say efforts are being made to insure Woodward “regrets” having correctly reported Obama’s ownership of the sequester.
    Incidentally, credit where credit’s due: Sexton has stayed on this subject — ownership of the sequester — when most people (such as myself) considered it not interesting enough to stay on.

    POLITICO’s “Behind the Curtain” column last night quoted Bob Woodward as saying that a senior White House official has told him in an email he would “regret” questioning White House statements on the origins of sequestration. The official in question is Gene Sperling, economic adviser to the president. The White House has since pushed back, saying the exchange was far more innocuous than Woodward claims.

    We have obtained, exclusively, the exchange. Here it is:

    From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013

    Bob:

    I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall — but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here.

    But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)

    I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously.

    My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.

Or is anyone safe who does not tow the party line. Let us hope this issue, this perpetual tactic of this administation is now drawn into high relief. Time will tell. And so far, time has been, how shall I put it, a disappointment, not unlike Chief Justice Roberts.)

    Will Washington Stand Up for Woodward?
    By Chris Stirewalt

    “Color me a little baffled. I don’t understand this White House. Do you?”

    — Bob Woodward of the Washington Post talking to Politico about an effort by the Obama White House to discredit his reporting on the president’s budget negotiations.

    There was something very quaint about Bob Woodward’s concern about the attacks he’s been receiving from the Obama White House.

    Here’s what Woodward told Politico:

    “I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’ ”

    Woodward assumes that if only President Obama knew about the nastygrams and threats and attacks from his team the president would step in and rein in his over-eager staffers.

    If only Obama knew!

    Woodward, once celebrated by Democrats for yanking down Richard Nixon’s imperial presidency, now seems puzzled by the doings of the current and even more imperial Obama presidency.

    Team Obama is currently in the business of trashing Woodward for his reporting on the 2011 budget battle that resulted in the automatic decreases to automatic increases to federal spending set to begin tomorrow.

    It is remarkable to the denizens of pre-Obama Washington that a top White House official would publicly taunt an eminence like Woodward, as David Plouffe did Wednesday, comparing the reporter to an aging baseball star unable to hit today’s pitchers. It’s nasty, mean and disrespectful. Woodward and his set recoil from that conduct.

    If only Obama knew!

    Washington is a Democratic place. Big time. And its official religion is a sort of old-fashioned, practical, patrician liberalism. John and Jackie Kennedy made Washington feel special for the first time, and the city’s elite have been trying to get back to Camelot ever since.

    This means Democratic presidents get a lot more slack than Republicans, especially if, as they all do, Democrats claim to be seeking a restoration of Camelot. But even Washington has its limits.

    When the White House put a hit out on FOX News in a deliberate effort to silence the largest cable news outlet, eyebrows were raised but, well, it was just FOX News. People in Washington don’t watch much FOX News, unless of course, they are appearing on it. FOX News is for the rest of the country, so an orchestrated campaign to muzzle the network was tut-tutted but nobody in Washington got their knickers in a twist.

    When the victims were local reporters from other cities, well, sorry, that’s life in the big leagues, kids. When the subjects of bullying, wrath and scorn were Washington reporters they weren’t from the Post or the New York Times or broadcast television, it was bad but not dire. If the victim was Julie Mason at The Washington Examiner, people could commiserate at brunch, but no one was going to cancel their squash game.

    Putting the hit out on Woodward, though, is something else. Robert Redford played him in the movie! He is the dean of the Washington press corps! He is at all of the parties!

    Imagine the alarm rippling through Northwest D.C. today when the response came back from Team Obama: Whatever. He’s going down anyway.

    The thesis of Woodward’s book “The Price of Politics” was that Obama really wanted to strike a grand bargain with Republicans during the 2011 showdown over the debt limit, but that the pending election kept both sides from being able to do a deal.

    Obama has been more bullying, less engaged with the press, more aggressive and less inclined to deal with his adversaries than he even was before.

    This is the same thinking that allowed Washington to excuse so much bad behavior from Team Obama in the past. He had an election to win, so a bit of bullying or running a campaign based on character assassination or stiff-arming even sympathetic reporters was quickly forgiven.

    After all, Mitt Romney would have been the farthest thing from Camelot. He doesn’t even drink. So Obama was given wide latitude in his first term.

    But all of the right people assured Washington that a re-elected Obama would be the kind of upper-crust liberal that they adore. Colin Powell said so.

    And yet it hasn’t been that way at all.

    Obama has been more bullying, less engaged with the press, more aggressive and less inclined to deal with his adversaries than he even was before. He’s being, well, positively uncool.

    What Washington and Woodward seem to have missed is that Obama doesn’t much care for their brand. Obama means to raise an army in the cities of the nation beyond the Potomac Basin. With tweets and Google hangouts and rallies and a continuous campaign lavishly funded by his corporate partners, Obama means to bring down the status quo that Washington so adores.

    The fight over the so-called “sequester” may be the moment when Washington realizes the state of things.

    Woodward wonders why Obama is campaigning instead of holding the kind of negotiations that all of his predecessors eventually had to submit to. Woodward wonders why the president would scorch hopes for bipartisan accord by adding a call for tax increases to the pre-arranged spending cuts.

    But Obama already told him and everyone else. The president finds the political system–as constituted–unworthy and is going to smash it into smithereens. The Republican Party. The press. Even Washington. Smash. Smash. Smash.

    Why menace the public? Why sabotage your own deals? Why trash reporters? To win, sillies.

    Many in Washington will probably sell out their old heartthrob Woodward, quietly nodding when Team Obama demands that he be exiled for challenging the president’s line. Certainly, the new liberal media will join the public pantsing of Woodward. And since the old Washington of Katherine Graham, Camelot revivals and Colin Powell is a mere shadow of its former self, lots of folks will take the chance to denounce their onetime idol.

    The question is for those in the space between the Huffington Post and the Washington Post. For the Jake Tappers and the George Stephanopouli. Will they let Woodward get swallowed whole, tut-tutting as Team Obama eats him alive or will they dig in their heels and decide that no matter how horrible Republicans may be, Team Obama is on a dangerous power trip?

    Woodward is under attack because he believed, as Washington believed, that Obama was a secret moderate who would do a deal once the liberal base out in those other cities had delivered re-election. His cardinal sin was expressing bewilderment that Obama was not doing as promised.

    Woodward helped unseat the last president who despised Washington and its conventions the way Obama does, so he might have seen this coming.

    But the next generation certainly knows better. They know Obama, he of the unlimited donations, permanent campaign and pitiful press access. And they know that if the president will treat Woodward this way, they’d be totally toast if Plouffe and Co. decided that any of their more moderate musings were deemed dangerous to Obama’s prime directives.

    It’s up to them to decide whether to start biting back or to keep hoping the alligator eats them last.

    And Now, A Word From Charles

    “I think it could redound against the administration if people imagine, as in this case, that they could be acting in bad faith and deliberately making things really bad.”

    — Charles Krauthammer on “Special Report with Bret Baier”

    I think this article pointed out the most important fact at the end:
    “It’s up to them to decide whether to start biting back or to keep hoping the alligator eats them last”
    Reminds me of the opening scene in the gladiator when Russell Crowe says “some men don’t know when they’ve been conquered.” The press has been conquered and neutered. Woodward now scares them because he still has his b_ _ __s

    This regime, like all other tin pot dictatorships will not tolerate dissent, regardless of the source. We have all seen this before, throughout history. The two bit narcissists who head these regimes will not be spoken evil of and those possessing the temerity to do so will be punished.
    That this is nothing new to the Obama regime may be witnessed by the years old campaign against Fox News. The regime has been attempting to discredit them, has been actively excluding them from meetings and briefings and otherwise attempting to muzzle them at every opportunity. This is going on at a time when organizations offering favorable coverage, in other words, for those which outright lie for them and tote the company line, the mainstream, Democrat media, they receive first row seating in the briefing room, special access to ‘unscripted events’, extra questions as long as they are the right type of questions etc.
    Not only is it is sickening and patently un-American, it turns out to be the only transparent aspect of this regime, despite their rhetoric to the contrary. The ability to see through the pay for play, quid pro quo aspects of this most corrupt government entity in our history is there, in the open.
    One can only hope that in the panic induced in them by having their bluff called over this sequester debacle, they have finally gone too far, perhaps a law too far, one too many broken and the road to impeachment has been laid open. The fear mongering and the immense lying of the last couple of weeks by this President and his minions has been so outrageous, so over the top that it will become apparent to even his low information electorate that he will be exposed as one who will do anything, say anything, divide and frighten anyone and lash out at anyone who would dare to threaten his power and expose his lies.
    Maybe; just maybe people will finally see that while Rome burns the fiddling emperor has no clothes.

    Wait a minute! Obama is complaining about $85 billion in “across the board cuts,” over the $2 TRILLION he was given in the “debt ceiling raise?” What’s WRONG with this picture??? He has NO problem “spending” the $2 TRILLION, but does have a problem making the “cuts” that HE signed into law, in the 2011 debt ceiling “deal.”
    These cuts will amount to .01 cents on the dollar, over a 10-year period! And the sky is falling WHY???? All of these Obama WH “scare tactics” over something that will be SLOW and NOT IMMEDIATE?
    Just goes to show you that Democrats are FEAR-MONGERS, on just about everything THEY do not like!

    Attention Democrats:
    If you open your mouths and voice your opinions, then you will regret doing so. I am telling you this as a friend.
    —————————————————————————————————————–
    Now, will someone please explain how that is not an implied threat? Because the Democrats / liberals who are voicing their opinions that the above statement is not a threat, could be the ones saying the wrong thing tomorrow.
    My advice to Democrats is to think twice before speaking. The one you worship does not care what you think, nor does he want to hear it.

    Krauthammer will be disappointed, if he believes there will be any blowback coming for Obama, but I do believe that Obama is acting in bad faith to make things as bad as possible through the sequestration, and in all activities concerning federal spending and the deficit/debt. I just don’t see how everyone is not sick of it.
    I hope Bob Woodward gets another notch on his belt, but I think he will get an epitaph from Washington’s liberal press instead: ‘Here lies a guy we loved…until he criticized one we worshiped.’

    BOB WOODWARD SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN THREATENED TAKE ENCOURAGEMENT FROM JEFFERSON FOR YOUR WORK

    “Since truth and reason have maintained their ground against false opinions in league with false facts, the press confined to truth needs no other legal restraint. The public judgment will correct false reasonings and opinions on a full hearing of all parties, and no other definite line can be drawn between the inestimable liberty of the press and its demoralizing licentiousness. If there be still improprieties which this rule would not restrain, its supplement must be sought in the censorship of public opinion.” –Thomas Jefferson: 2nd Inaugural Address, 1805. ME 3:381

    Mr. Stirewalt has nailed the issue. Democrats are intimidated by Obama which is why they’ve allowed his power hungry antics to go unchecked. Dr. Carson stood up to Obama, loudly and publicly. No one will touch him because he is a very prominent man who happens to be Black, and the liberals wouldn’t touch that issue with a ten foot pole. In private liberals will say that Mr. Woodward is right to report on what he has experienced, to be the voice that FINALLY says, “Hey, folks! The Emperor has no clothes!” But few will stand up for Mr. Woodward. They wouldn’t dare out of fear.
    Mr. Stirewalt, please continue to bring these situations before the public eye. So many people remain blind to their future. Mr. Obama will, in my opinion, be the author of his own demise because, as history has proven, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. A fall from his own perverted perspective of “grace” is inevitable. Let us all hope this occurs before he destroys this country.

    Competing sequester bills fail in Senate

    The measures had been expected to fail — they were largely intended to allow each party to demonstrate that their political opponents were resisting reasonable ideas that could lessen the impact of the $85 billion across-the-board cuts.

    A Republican proposal would have left the budget cuts intact but provided new flexibility to President Obama to decide where the cuts would fall. It was rejected on a 38 to 62 vote — as all but two Democrats opposed it, along with nine Republicans who feared it would afford Obama too much power. Sixty votes were needed to advance the measure.

    Likewise, a bill from Democrats that embodied Obama’s call to replace the across-the-board budget reduction with a mixture of other cuts and higher tax revenues was also blocked, on a 51 to 49 vote. Several Democrats facing 2014 elections voted against the measure.

    With that, the Senate completed legislative action for the week. The House completed its final vote in the morning and has also left Washington, with lawmakers resigned that the budget cuts will take effect on schedule.

    Media Turns Against Obama’s Sequester Narrative

    Over the past weeks, President Obama has been running around the country like Chicken Little spreading falsehoods about sequester, all in the hopes of blaming a 2% budget cut (which he proposed and signed into law) for an anemic economy that might be headed into a double-dip recession. Simply put, the White House and its media are pushing this fabricated Narrative in the hopes of shifting blame away from Obama’s failed economic policies and onto the GOP and a lack of government largess.

    If our economy crashes, Obama wants to blame sequester; he wants to argue that our economic woes are caused by a government that isn’t big enough, and that he needs a Democrat-controlled House to correct that. It’s an audaciously dishonest plot, and it almost worked. The monkeys in the wrench, though, have been little things called facts, a Republican Party refusing to blink, and one brave and honest reporter.

    Now the Narrative is starting to collapse, and nothing signals that collapse better than this National Journal piece published today that blows the lid off the media’s and the White House’s sequester lies:

    The Overhyped, Overblown, & Overly Politicized Sequester Fears

    It turns out that the next big fiscal crisis will seem more like a whimper when it hits on March 1.

    Let’s be clear about one thing: The across-the-board spending cuts known as the “sequester” aren’t a doomsday scenario, or a meteorite that will blow up the economy.

    Teachers, FBI agents, and Border Patrol officers will not get fired tomorrow, when the sequester kicks in. The Internal Revenue Service will still be able to process your tax return in April. Preschool programs won’t kick out 70,000 little kids until the fall, according to Education Secretary Arne Duncan—and that’s if the spending cuts stick. Unemployed people, arguably some of the worst-off of the lot, will not see their federal benefits reduced by 11 percent until April at the earliest, says the National Employment Law Project. This is roughly four weeks away, giving Congress and the White House time to act beyond the March 1 deadline that has been touted in headlines and press conferences for the past week.

    The immediate impact of sequester is “absolutely overhyped,” says Steve Bell, senior director for economic policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center and a former Republican staff director for the Senate Budget Committee. “A sequester will occur and, the next day, the likelihood is that almost no one will know that it started.”

    Along with other myths, the piece goes on to deconstruct the falsehoods about agencies not having flexibility to choose where these miniscule cuts hit.

    Obama and his media based this Narrative on lies… The lie that sequester wasn’t his idea; the lie that tax increases were part of the sequester deal; the lie that government agencies had no control over where the cuts hit; the lie that a meager $85 billion cut in a trillion-dollar budget would mean the end of the world.

    Obama has spent the last weeks gambling Republicans would cave and that his media would never dare challenge his fear-mongering with ridiculous nightmare scenarios. But drip by drip by drip, the mask was ripped off by a few honest reporters exposing lies that not even the ObamaMedia could spin away.

    The President’s justified confidence in a media that long ago sold its soul on his behalf put him way out over his skis, and now, thanks to a few honest reporters, it’s all tumbling down around him.
