Romney Weak Beat Obama Year

Mitt Romney has had a lot of bad weeks recently. There’s no use denying that. His campaign has pretty much sucked too. There’s no sense denying that.

Mitt Romney can easily fix what ails his campaign machinery however. All Mitt has to do is give John Sununu an electric cattle prod and full charge of getting the campaign in gear, running smoothly. Problem solved.

Yeah, Mitt Romney has had a lot of bad weeks lately, and by all rights Mitt Romney should be toast but somehow Mitt keeps hanging on. Poor Mitt, other than his wife few love him, but he keeps on hanging on.

Consider: after weeks, if not months, in which the Obama campaign has been almost completely successful with their tactics of distraction, distraction, smear, distraction, distraction, lies, lies, lies, lies, distraction, smear – Mitt Romney is either tied with Obama or a few, often only 1, points behind Obama in polls which skew at least 5 points in Obama’s favor.

Consider: Big Media continues to ignore or downplay news items hurtful to Obama while playing up stories that hurt Romney’s campaign but somehow the public is closely divided between Obama and Romney.

Bottom Line: Mitt Romney’s enemy is Big Media which protects Barack Obama from his many failures. Barack Obama’s enemy is reality and reality’s intrusion into the everyday life of Americans.

Donald Trump in an un-aired segment for the Republican convention provides an all too brief summary of reality and how it is the enemy of Obama:

Donald Trump’s video is only an appetizer serving of Obama’s failures. A heftier meal of Obama failures was delivered today from of all places Latino powerhouse Univision:

“CORAL GABLES, Fla. – President Barack Obama on Thursday faced some of the toughest questioning of his reelection campaign to date, pressed repeatedly on his failure to achieve comprehensive immigration reform and other unmet promises from his 2008 run.

The Univision presidential forum at the University of Miami here kicked off with grilling on another topic which brought mounting criticism from Republicans Thursday: The government’s decision to label as a terrorist attack the violence at the consulate in Benghazi which killed American Christopher Stevens.”

It happened in must win for Romney key state of Florida. Latino powerhouse Univision hit Barack Obama right in his Benghazis:

“Asked why the United States was not better prepared, with better security at its embassies on the Sept. 11 anniversary, Obama responded by repeating the admonitions about not tolerating violence, but continued to discuss the incident in the context of the controversial video depicting scenes from the life of Mohammed.”

Univision noted the lack of celestial choirs and Obama crumpled like the cheap empty suit he is:

“But it was his elaboration of his usual lament about failing to change the tone of Washington that immediately drew a sharp response from Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

“I think that I’ve learned some lessons over the last four years and the most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t change Washington from the inside,” Obama said, appearing to admit his inability to fully deliver on one of the driving themes of his 2008 campaign. “You can only change it from the outside. That’s how I got elected. And that’s how the big accomplishments like health care got done.”

Speaking in Sarasota Thursday, Romney — who made his own Univision forum appearance Wednesday — said this amounted to Obama throwing in “the white flag of surrender.”

“I can change Washington,” Romney promised. “I will change Washington. I will get the job done from the inside.”

What a buffoon Barack Obama is! No doubt, the Obama imbeciles will say something stupid in defense of Barack Obama’s ‘change is hard and it’s too hard for me to get done’ whine.

The Obama imbeciles will no doubt begin to suspect that Latino powerhouse Univision is populated with “RACISTS!” for asking Obama why Obama did not do what Obama said he would do:

“However, much of the time in front of the Spanish-language audience here was spent on Obama’s failure to get comprehensive immigration reform — something that Obama attributed to focusing instead on the economy and blaming Republicans in Congress.

But to host Jorge Ramos, that answer was not good enough.

You promised that, and a promise is a promise,” Ramos told Obama. “And with all due respect, you didn’t keep that promise.

Obama responded with an explanation for the Spanish-language audience about the separation of powers in the federal government.”

No matter how incompetent the Mitt Romney campaign is and how lackluster Mitt Roimney has performed, this Obama performance elevates Romney to super-genius. What a joke Barack Obama is! How loathsome the Chicago clown! Separation of powers as an excuse when Obama had full control of the congress and the executive branches of government.

“A promise is a promise” says Jorge. Obama responds with ‘it’s not a promise if you don’t promise to do the promise and promise to promise and accomplish the promise.’ We kid you not:

“So I am happy to take responsibility for the fact that we didn’t get it done, but I did not make a promise that we would get everything done, 100 percent when I was elected as president.”

Oh really Barack? You didn’t promise to keep your promise in the first year?

For Obama, a promise is not a promise. Hey we warned you Jorge! Remember August 11, 2010, Jorge? We wrote an article called “Hey Jorge, Obama Cannot Be Trusted“. That article featured our mantra Jorge:

Obama simply cannot be trusted. Obama cannot be trusted on any issue. Obama cannot be trusted by his friends. Obama cannot be trusted by his enemies. Obama cannot be trusted.

Jorge Ramos, as we wrote in that August 2010 article is the “Walter Cronkite of Spanish-language media“.

This is how we ended our epistle to Jorge Ramos years ago:

“Jorge baby, Obama can’t be trusted. Get that simple fact into your head. Get that simple fact to your viewers. Whatever side of the illegal immigration issue you are on, Obama can’t be trusted. Whatever side of the legal immigration issue you are on, Obama can’t be trusted. Whatever side of whatever issue you are on, Obama can’t be trusted.

Get it now Jorge?”

Mitt Romney on his weakest day of existence is better than Barack Obama at his “best” – whatever that horror is.

When Obama whined and lied today to Jorge Ramos about not being able to bring change to Washington from the inside the “Yes we Can” crowd took a double guzzle of Hopium to erase that confession from what passes for their minds. The response from Romney to Obama: If you want to change D.C. from the “outside,” we’ll give you the chance in November:

Smart Republicans/conservatives immediately did what he have for so long advised – use the secret weapon called Hillary Clinton:

“His biggest lesson, meanwhile, is that “you can’t change Washington from the inside.” Wait a second. In the 2008 primaries, his whole argument with Hillary Clinton was over this exact question. She believed that you can change Washington from the inside and Barack Obama said you couldn’t.

For example, in a Nevada debate, Obama said he wasn’t a very organized person. But that didn’t matter because it was the president’s job to inspire people. The presidency “involves having a vision for where the country needs to go . . . and then being able to mobilize and inspire the American people to get behind that agenda for change.”

Hillary rejected this formulation. She said being president is about being the “chief executive officer” who must be “able to manage and run the bureaucracy.

Hillary Clinton was right and Barack Obama is a lying treacherous boob. Obama is an abject failure and a liar.

For a long time we have mocked Obama supporters who excuse Obama’s failures with this lamest of lame excuses: “He’s doing the best he can.” Our response is always “Yes, that is exactly the problem.”

Barack Obama is not up to the job. Barack Obama is the problem not the solution. Barack Obama will get us all killed. Barack Obama made it worse. Barack Obama has got to go.

  1. As close to perfect:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2206361/Romney-says-candidate-Yes-We-Can-President-No-I-Cant-declaring-Obama-change-Washington-inside-Hes-going-outside.html

Mitt Romney has seized on President Barack Obama’s statement that he ‘can’t change Washington from the inside by telling him: ‘He can only change it from outside? Well, we’re going to give him a chance in November. He’s going outside!’

Speaking at a rally in Sarasota, Florida, Romney reacted swiftly to Obama’s comment in a Univision television forum: ‘The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside.’

Romney said this amounted to Obama throwing in ‘the white flag of surrender’.

The Republican nominee said this meant that Obama’s 2008 slogan had been altered: ‘His slogan was “Yes we can”. His slogan now is “No I can’t”. It’s time for a new president.’

Declaring that the candidate of change in 2008 was now the candidate of a status quo that had brought in economic disaster, Romney said it was he who was now taking on the mantle of change.

I can change Washington. I will change Washington and we’ll get the job done from the inside. He can’t do it.

  2. for a while now I’ve lurked and not posted, I gave up the day the supreme court announced their decision on health care. Over the last few months I’ve watch the Romney campaign make mistake after ridiculous mistake and went in to a depression and tried to think about what I will do come November 6th when we face another 4 years of the one… but I’ve noticed something. My Facebook feed, my “friends” have been “liking” Mitt Romney”. People that I would have thought would not be paying attention or even care about politics. 20 something year olds, and people at my job. Maybe just Maybe there is a sleeping giant after all!

  3. New Ad Implies Obama Is Cozy With Muslim Brotherhood

    By LAUREN FOX
September 20, 2012 RSS Feed Print
The conservative advocacy group Let Freedom Ring released an ad Thursday to run in key swing states depicting President Barack Obama as a Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer.

  4. JtJames, check this out on the undecided vote:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/327856/measuring-undecideds-jim-geraghty#

“The undecideds are all ‘get-able’ for the challenger,” says former Virginia congressman Tom Davis, now head of the Republican Main Street Partnership. “That doesn’t mean they’re definitely going to vote for him, but the challenger starts with those voters being open to the option of voting for him.” [snip]

With an economic record much worse than many Democrats expected or hoped to see in 2008, the Obama campaign’s remaining option has been to make Romney unacceptable. The campaign has been quite open about this approach. A “prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House” told Politico in August 2011: “Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney.” Thus, Obama’s campaign and its allies shout at the remaining undecided voters that Romney is a job-killing vampire and tax felon who killed a steelworker’s wife.

Democratic pollster Peter Hart and Republican pollster Bill McInturff conducted the NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey and isolated the respondents whom they classified as “up for grabs” — either undecided or leaning only slightly to one of the candidates. Several demographic indicators suggest that the remaining voters are ripe for the picking for Romney: 68 percent are white, 57 percent are married, 53 percent are men, 70 percent think the country is headed in the wrong direction, and 60 percent disapprove of how Obama is doing his job.

“They suck lemons,” Hart said with a chuckle on MSNBC’s Daily Rundown on Wednesday morning. “I mean, they are the sourest people I have ever — beyond really negative. ‘Neither’ is their favorite answer. . . . We’re talking about ‘up for grabs’ people, but in reality, a lot of these people are not going to vote.”

Unsurprisingly, McInturff sees a bigger opportunity for Romney.

“What tends to happen is the vote decision is driven by two things,” McInturff said. “Your feeling about the direction of the country — where 70 percent say the country is on the wrong track — and their feelings about the president’s performance, which is very negative. I don’t think Romney will get 100 percent of this vote, but I do think a chunk will vote and they will disproportionately break to Romney.”

Just about any Republican presidential candidate would be thrilled to face an election where victory comes down to persuading white married voters who think the country is on the wrong track and the Democratic incumbent is disappointing to vote for him.

  5. anyone know how much money Oturd has left over, I cannot find anything online.. they say how much he’s raised, but not the burn rate, so no indications of how much is left.

  6. So jerk Harry reid cancels all votes for today to force Scott Brown to debate liar Liz Warren. The debate in my opinion went very well for Brown. Warren is still lying about her heritage.

  7. Romney to Obama: If you want to change D.C. from the “outside,” we’ll give you the chance in November:

’bout freakin’ time we hear Mitt get a little fired up.

Come on Mitt, drop those damn Moron undies and get MAD!

  8. Hillary Clinton was right and Barack Obama is a lying treacherous boob. Obama is an abject failure and a liar.

    You tell um Admin!!!!

  9. I watched some of the UNI-VISION town hall with Romney last night and the audience appeared very enthusiastic, clapping loudly for him after each response. The questions were pretty good too. Romney’s replies, in turn, were well-thought out. All in all, he looked at ease and well prepared. [The translator was awesome!!!]

    Great article Admin!! Thank you!

  10. Jorge Ramos knows how the interview should be played. Before he became Univision’s star, he was working in the most dangerous city in Mexico. He knows exactly what corrupt government does. He didn’t even begin to lay into teh won.

  11. Ramos, who wrote a book on immigration (I believe), has been after Obama on immigration for years. Glad to see he didn’t let BO off the hook.

  12. Heh, Heh…. guess BO couldn’t pass off this lame excuse as his biggest failure anymore:

“The mistake of my first term — couple of years — was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right,” Obama said in an interview with Charlie Rose taped yesterday at the White House, according to a video excerpt released by CBS News.
President Barack Obama says he is facing a tough election fight from Republican Mitt Romney in part because he concentrated more on policy than selling the story of his first-term accomplishments to voters. [….] Obama, 50, said that, while his policies are important, “The nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times.”

  13. This is not good. I was just watching NHK tv out of Tokyo and they were airing the “apology” video that is running in Pakistan.

Looking weak again to the rest of the world.

  14. Tim, we have all been waiting for the Obama cash on hand numbers. On the 20th reports were due to be made public:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81491.html?hp=l8

RNC has big cash advantage over DNC

The Republican National Committee has more than 10 times as much in the bank as its Democratic counterpart, according to federal reports filed Thursday.

The RNC, which has consistently been crushing the Democratic National Committee in fundraising, reported having $75.6 million at the end of August. The DNC ended the month with $7.1 million.

The RNC raised a total of $35.6 million in August alone and spent $47.8 million – an uptick from the $38.6 million it spent in July.

Meanwhile, the DNC’s August haul was about a third of the RNC’s. It raised $13.6 million, up from the $10 million it raised in July, and spent nearly $22 million.

Both committees also reported some debt. The RNC has nearly $10 million in loans from BB&T, and the DNC owes $11 million — mostly to Amalgamated Bank.

  15. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81487.html?hp=l9

Barack Obama’s fundraising machine is operating at full steam.

Obama for America, the president’s campaign committee, raised $84.7 million in August — $35 million more than it did in July, federal campaign finance reports released Thursday night show.

The campaign spent $83.7 million and ended the month with almost $89 million in reserve. That easily eclipses the $50 million that Mitt Romney’s campaign committee reported in the bank through August.

The Romney campaign raised about $67 million and spent about $66 million, meaning Obama for America beat it in both categories — a notable turnaround from the past several months, when Romney was largely generating more campaign cash.

The figures for both candidates don’t include money they raised in conjunction with national party committees. In this realm, the Romney campaign enjoyed a greater measure of success in August, although Obama’s fundraising apparatus still won a narrow financial victory — $114 million to $111.6 million.

More than $25 million of Obama for America’s August contributions came in the form of “unitemized” donations from small donors — contributions of $200 or less.

That obliterated the Romney campaign’s total, which stood at $9.4 million for the month. And it serves to bolster the Obama campaign’s assertion that its greatest strength is its grassroots support — people who may not boast unbridled riches but will boost the campaign however they’re able.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Katie Hogan said its August report was 170,000 pages long — up from 90,000 pages in July — and helps account for “three million donors who show that the grassroots continue to be the backbone of this campaign.”

Nevertheless, outside groups such as super PACs and politically active nonprofits have helped Romney significantly more than Obama.

This trend continued through August, federal filings show, with the main pro-Romney super PAC Restore Our Future spending more than $21 million, primarily on ads attacking Obama.

Comparatively, the main pro-Obama super PAC, Priorities USA Action, spent about $9.5 million, although it raised more money than its counterpart for the first time during any month this election cycle.

  16. The RNC haul is huge, DNC in big trouble, where are they going to get the cash to compete in the final run because Obama aint gonna give it to them. Amazing Politico still trying to spin Obama’s cash……unitemized….hmm left the card validation off again have we?

  17. Pakistan has gone nutzoid today. Burning down cinema’s, drivers killed, police fighting rioters but Obama thinks this is “natural”.

  18. Censured tax cheat Charles Rangel to Mitt Romney: “Unlike you, Americans pay their fair share of taxes.”

Our Hypocrite of the Week winner is Charles Rangel, the congressman who is living proof of a swamp left undrained. Rangel wins for this story that appears on his website: Rangel to Romney: Americans Pay Their Fair Share Of Taxes, Unlike You…

    ……………………………..

    Hypocrisy knows no bounds…….

New York, NY – Congressman Charles B. Rangel issued the following statement in response to Gov. Mitt Romney’s remarks saying 47% of the American people do not pay federal income taxes and nearly half of voters are “dependent upon government”:

“Nothing can be further from the truth than Gov. Romney’s ridiculous remarks that nearly half of American people do not pay federal income taxes, they pay other federal and state taxes. The 47 percent figure cited by the Republican presidential candidate covers only the federal income tax and ignores the fact that people may pay a higher percentage of their income on a wide variety of taxes.

    Flashback to 2010:

Rangel was found guilty by the ethics panel of 11 counts of violating ethics rules, including charges that he improperly solicited millions of dollars from corporate officials and lobbyists for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College of New York, failed to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars of income and assets on financial disclosure forms, maintained a rent-stabilized apartment as a campaign office in a Harlem apartment building and failed to pay income taxes on a villa in the Dominican Republic.

  19. lol, Footage from Pakistan showing a man kicking the crap out of a wall. Yeah you teach that godless western infidel wall. Idiot.

  20. GOP have given up trying to get Akin off Ballot in Missouri as Military have to be mailed by tomorrow, are looking at making peace and restoring funding to him as they see the effect of his comments have wore off in internal polling.

  21. Pawlenty couldn’t wait another 8 weeks? I knew I couldn’t stand the weakling moron. He always annoys me, he can be bought off with anything apparently.
He was the co-chairman of romney’s campaign, a prominent position, pawlenty is a snake, never liked him, never will. I don’t know what romney’s camp ever saw in him. Its all about power and position for this jerk.

  22. Interesting that one of the biggest lobbying job in Washington went to Romney’s chairman and confidante, kind of tells you where this race is actually going and what they are expecting.

If K Street is expecting Obama to win, that job would have gone to a big democrat.

  23. moononpluto
    September 21st, 2012 at 7:06 am

I hope you’re right moon. Never heard of that company. I still think it was a huge mistake, in an election this close, why have such abrupt changes to a campaign, and I blame Pawlenty for it, what a mealy-mouthed weakling jerk. Cannot stand him or watching him.

  24. you need to understand how politics work, especially K-Street, they always hire in the incoming party. These guys know well ahead what to expect, its their job. The Job has to start on Nov 1st as the other guy is leaving. He’ll make over 3 million a year, rather than a cabinet position, he’ll make shedloads.

If they interviewed a hell of a lot of high powered former politicians and Romney’s ear just happens to get it, that is not coincidence.

  25. hm, I guess you’re right, I still cannot stand the jerk. I don’t know, the whole lobbying thing has gotten so out of hand, the parties just take turns, that system itself has to be reigned it, hard to do when both parties take part in it.

But at this point, I’ll be happy just to see OTurd kicked out, evicted in November, the rest of the things then at least can be changed eventually, but evicting oTurd in november is the most important task.

I hope you’re right moon, that hiring one of romney’s top folks means they are predicting a romney victory.

  26. one last thing, OTurd calls all this violence “natural”, who the hell’s side is this a$$hole on??

a violent reaction to some no name movie is a “natural” reaction? I guess its very UNnatural for Oturd to ever take America or American’s side. I guess his words from his books are true, something about standing with the Muslims should the winds turn ugly or some such nonsense that Bill Ayers wrote for him.

  27. And here we go, Muslims in America saying there should be limits on free speech, basically he wants Shariah Law in the USA. Not a chance in hell that’s happening!

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/free-speech-that-mocks-islam-is-national-security-threat-for-u-s-prominent-nj-imam-tells-theblaze/

““We, as Americans, have to put limits and borders [on] freedom of speech,” Qatanani, leader of the Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC), told TheBlaze. He explained that while Americans may ”have the freedom“ to speak their mind, ultimately, they “have no right to [talk about Muslim] holy issues“ as it will incite ”hatred or war among people.””

Riiight, because WE in America have go cower in fear for speech, what next? get rid of bacon since it might offend muslims?
And btw you jerk, you don’t speak as an American! you speak like some jihadi, putting limits on free speech. Might want to consider another country to live in if you want Shariah Law, because not a chance in hell that’s happening here.

  28. MoonOnPluto, Pawlenty’s new job might be an indication of K Street anticipating a Romney win as you say.

Hopefully Pawlenty’s departure also indicates the Romney campaign is going to get a lot tougher than “Minnesota nice” Pawlenty. Give Sununu the job of getting the Romney campaign in shape and on message because he knows his facts and fights for Romney with fire and passion. Organizations look to the top and take cues from leadership. With Pawlenty gone maybe the message to the troops will be “fight fire with fire using the devil’s own weapons against him”. Enough with “nice”. Don’t whine. Fight.

  29. At first we suspected this was Obama wearing one of Michelle’s old dresses: 🙂

    http://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2012/09/21/mcdonalds-calls-police-on-man-dressed-up-as-the-burger-king/

Police were called to a local McDonald’s in relation to a disturbance caused by a man dressed as the Burger King.

In a police report provided to the Rome News-Tribune, officers indicated that they were summoned to the fast-food restaurant around 1 p.m. on Monday, in response to a call about a suspicious person on the premises.

The person was allegedly resplendent in full Burger King regalia.

Police stated that, upon his arrival, the Burger King mascot reportedly began to hand out free hamburgers to customers, and stopped to take pictures with several children.

Officers were additionally told that one child ran away from the man in fear, the paper learned.

The McDonald’s manager told authorities she had approached the unidentified man before calling police. When asked what he was doing, the man allegedly told the manager he was collecting money for charity.

The manager noted to police that at no time did the man collect money while inside the McDonald’s.

Before leaving in his white Acura, the man removed his mask in view of the manager, the paper learned. She then described him as a white, middle-aged man with dark hair, according to the report.

  30. http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-approval-rating-2012-poll-convention-israel-2012-9#ixzz277XKxw2p

President Barack Obama’s approval rating in Gallup’s rolling survey has plunged 6 percentage points in two weeks, a troubling sign that puts him on shaky historical ground for re-election.

Obama’s approval rating is down to just 46 percent, down from a high of 52 percent after the Democratic National Convention. His disapproval rating, meanwhile, now stands at 48 percent, up from 42 percent after the DNC. Altogether, that’s a 12-point swing in two weeks.

Recall why the 50 percent threshold is important, per Gallup managing editor Jeffrey M. Jones:

The 50% approval mark is significant because post-World War II incumbent presidents who have been above 50% job approval on Election Day were easily re-elected. Presidents with approval ratings below 50% have more uncertain re-election prospects. Historically, two presidents below 50% in their final approval rating before the election — George W. Bush and Harry Truman — won, and three, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George H.W. Bush, lost.

That should concern Obama, in part because George W. Bush never dropped this low this late in the race.

The last time Bush sat at 46 percent was in May 2004 when he was running for re-election against John Kerry. Bush’s approval rating stood at 54 percent around this time in 2004, though he did drop back down to 47 percent briefly in October.

By Next Week Voters In 30 States Will Be Able To Cast Votes In The Presidential Election
    —DrewM.

Alternate title: The Slow Death of the American Republic, A Continuing Series.

The November 6 election is still seven weeks away, but early, in-person voting begins in two states on Friday, even as Democrats and Republicans battle in court over controversial plans to limit such voting before Election Day.
Idaho and South Dakota are the first states to begin early voting on Friday, although North Carolina has been accepting absentee ballots by mail since September 6. By the end of September, 30 states will have begun either in-person or absentee voting, and eventually all the states will join in.

Much of the focus of the early voting period will be on the politically divided states of Ohio and Florida, which could be crucial in deciding the race between Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney.

This is, in a word, insanity.

Yes, we should make accommodations for absentee voting if you have a reason to be away from home on election day, for seniors/disabled for whom it would be a real hardship to get to a polling place and of course the military. Beyond that it’s outrageous.

Aside from the obvious potential for fraud, even legitimately cast ballots at this point represent a danger to the integrity of results. We’re 7 weeks out and haven’t had a single debate yet. A million things could happen between now and then that would cause some one to reconsider their choice for President or any other office on the ballot. Voters should have access to the same information and see the full campaign play out.

Just think how some elections might have changed if early voting had been allowed on this scale earlier.

In 1980 Ronald Reagan trailed Jimmy Carter well into October and two moments in the debates are credited with boosting Reagan (“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” and Carter’s, “I was talking to my daughter Amy….” both came in the debate less than a week before the election).

Of course that might not have happened had Gerald Ford not said in a 1976 debate against Carter, ‘There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and there never will be under a Ford Administration’.

If getting to a polling place on a designated day is too much for you (other than the instances above), perhaps you aren’t all that committed to the process and shouldn’t be voting.

  32. Here’s a different perspective on the Pawlenty departure from a HA poster.

“Did you hear about T-Paw’s “abrupt departure” from Team Romney as its co-chair to take a job k-street as a lobbyist for financial interests? You would think that T-Paw could easily score a cabinet position in a Romney presidency only T-Paw no longer believes that Romney will win, nor does he even believe he’ll be able to cash Romney’s checks when the balloon finally goes up.

Funny how Romney failed to release one of those “Hey, we love him, he’ll be missed, we wish him the best of luck” press releases. Funny how T-Paw didn’t even bother with the usual “I need to spend time with my family” alibi. Funny.”

  33. Lobbying groups hire who they think is going to have the most access. A financial lobby group thinks an ex-Republican governor who has worked with Romney will have more access than a recently defeated in 2010 Democratic congress critter who was kicked to the curb by the same people who are voting in 2012. In the world of influence peddling it makes sense and Pawlenty needed a longer term job.

  34. So jerk Harry reid cancels all votes for today to force Scott Brown to debate [ Liz Warren ].

Why did Brown have to be forced to debate? Was he avoiding debate? Why?

  37. In his remarks to the AARP Friday, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan was booed loudly when he said the “first step to a stronger Medicare is to repeal Obamacare.”*

Ryan was unfazed. “I had a feeling there would be mixed reactions, so let me get into it,” he said.

“It weakens Medicare for today’s seniors and puts it at risk for the next generation,” Ryan argued. “First, it funnels $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for a new entitlement we didn’t even ask for. Second, it puts 15 unelected bureaucrats in charge of Medicare’s future.”

Ryan’s explanation was booed, as was his charge that President Obama “put his own job security over your retirement security.”

The congressman was applauded at other points in his remarks, particularly when introducing his mother and when pledging to leave “our grandkids with a debt-free nation.”

“We’re pleased we had the opportunity to speak to this crowd,” said Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck.

Ryan’s own budget contains the same cuts to future Medicare spending as the Affordable Care Act, although Mitt Romney has distanced himself from that plan. The bureaucrat reference is to the new Independent Payment Advisory Board, whose members must be approved by the Senate and whose recommendations can be rejected by Congress. Politifact has rated Ryan’s description of the board “mostly false.”

The AARP describes itself as a non-partisan organization, but the group supported the Affordable Care Act, nicknamed Obamacare. Some Republicans have argued that the group backed the legislation because it would increase demand for the AARP’s supplemental insurance policies; officials dispute that claim.

Obama appeared before the group earlier in the day (via satellite) and offered a sharp critique of his Republican rivals’ plans to revamp Medicare, saying it would leave seniors “at the mercy of insurance companies.”

    * This post originally stated, incorrectly, that Ryan spoke via satellite. Obama, not Ryan, appeared via satellite.

“We’re Not Dead,” Say Texas Voters Informed They Were Dead
According to Businessweek, a Texas judge has granted an injunction at least temporarily halting officials’ plans to purge 77,000 “presumably dead voters” from the rolls [….]
[A]fter getting notices informing them that they would not be allowed to vote, hundreds of the presumably dead contacted [a county official] to complain.
    [….]
[A]fter a months-long effort in Florida to weed out falsely registered voters, exactly one such person had been found and charged, a Canadian (who was registered as an independent).

  39. Why is Romney’s team seemingly ignoring everyone’s advice on how to win? Mitt is too loyal(see Hillary) and this may cost him. He really could have broken out given the foreign policy disasters unfolding each day, but keeps playing it safe, or worse, making a ill advised, albeit innocuous comment not meant for public consumption(can u imagine the comments BO has made in private which big media has kept undercover!!!!). The whole g-d dam week has been about a 47% remark made months ago and no one is paying attention to bad job reports, terrorism at our embassies, and an over all malaise among our citizens. Really infuriating.

  40. Romney Releases 2011 Taxes; Gave $4 Million To Charity, Paid 14.1% Effective Rate (A Rate Significantly Reduced By His Huge Donations to Charity)
    —Ace

He gave 30% of his income to charity in 2011.

    – In 2011, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in mostly investment income.

    – The Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%.

-The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.

-The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions. The Romneys’ generous charitable donations in 2011 would have significantly reduced their tax obligation for the year. The Romneys thus limited their deduction of charitable contributions to conform to the Governor’s statement in August, based upon the January estimate of income, that he paid at least 13% in income taxes in each of the last 10 years.
Joe Biden, by comparison, gave an average of $369 per year before people started noticing. I think he might have upped this to the low thousands, just to avoid people noting that his “heart” is not nearly as large as he claims.

You know what liberals are claiming now? That he paid too much in taxes, deliberately, to keep his effective rate up.

Here’s his certified summary of his taxes for the past twenty years:

    – In each year during the entire 20-year period, the Romneys owed both state and federal income taxes.

-Over the entire 20-year period, the average annual effective federal tax rate was 20.20%.

-Over the entire 20-year period, the lowest annual effective federal personal tax rate was 13.66%.

-Over the entire 20-year period, the Romneys gave to charity an average of 13.45% of their adjusted gross income.

-Over the entire 20-year period, the total federal and state taxes owed plus the total charitable donations deducted represented 38.49% of total AGI.

-During the 20-year period covered by the PWC letter, Gov. and Mrs. Romney paid 100 percent of the taxes that they owed.

  41. “the group backed the legislation because it would increase demand for the AARP’s supplemental insurance policies;”

International “Love the Prophet Mohammad” Day Results In Good Feeling, Pride, Murder
    —Ace

    Warning: Al Jazeera link. Excerpt:

Reports say more than 17 people have died as demonstrations against an anti-Islam video erupted across Pakistan, a day after protesters tried to storm the US embassy in the capital, Islamabad.
Tens of thousands of Pakistanis took to the streets across the country after the government called an impromptu public holiday to let people protest under the banner of “Love the Prophet Day”.

In Karachi, armed protesters among a group of 15,000 fired on police, killing two officers, as at least 10 protesters died in the violence. The crowd also burned six cinemas, two banks, a KFC and five police vehicles.

Crowds armed with clubs and bamboo poles converged on the Firdaus picture house, “smashing it up and setting furniture ablaze”, according to Gohar Ali, a police officer.

A holiday with a body count.

France is having none of this.

In France, where the publication of cartoons denigrating the Prophet stoked anger over an anti-Islam video made in California, the authorities banned all protests over the issue.
“There will be strictly no exceptions. Demonstrations will be banned and broken up,” said Interior Minister Manuel Valls.

Although that may seem itself to be a repudiation of free speech rights, you can’t simply ignore all history (and concurrent “protests” in other countries) and pretend you don’t know that “protest” means “arson, riots, and murders.”

In Malaysia, they’re protesting both America and France.

About 3,000 Muslims marched on the US embassy in Malaysia on Friday, burning an American flag, over a US-made film that has sparked anger in the Islamic world.
Although there was no violence, angry demonstrators declared their willingness to sacrifice their lives to defend the honour of Prophet Mohammed and warned “there will be consequences” over the film.

Protesters shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) and held up signs denouncing the film, America and Jews.

One placard read: “Obama, our patience has its limit. Don’t blame us if your citizens die. Blame yourself. U started it!”

Demonstrators handed a memo to an American embassy official, demanding a US apology, “maximum sentences” for the movie-makers and an investigation into whether there was a “planned agenda to provoke hatred and anger towards Muslims”.

Hey, remember when the media used to piously tell us that it was a shame Americans weren’t more interested in foreign news, and how they’d sure like to cover more of it?

That seems to have gone out the door lately, eh?

Because there is a full American embargo on this. This is Drudge linking reports from around the world. The American media is still in 47% Wonderland.

AP does digest a series of reports from all over the world.

The chant “Obama, Obama, we’re all Osama” shows up at a lot of “protests.” Including Norway.

But the media doesn’t want to tell you that Obama’s supposed Charm Offensive, combined with his Apology Gambit, isn’t working. So this is officially non-news.

I tend to agree about AARP’s support in 2008. HOwever, Ryan’s plan to send Medicare patients to private insurance, should profit AARP’s insurance even more. So I suspect the crowd booing Ryan were real Medicare seniors, not AARP accountants.

    http://p.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/sep/21/romney-doubles-obamas-charitable-giving/
The Obamas rate of charitable giving as a percentage of total income was half that of the Romneys. And unless Jokin’ Joe only made only $2,743.49, his rate of charitable giving will have been minuscule as compared to either in the past example you cited.
Many studies have examined charitable giving of both “liberal” and “conservative” cohorts. Many people are surprised to learn that conservatives give significantly more than liberals at all income levels.

The whole movie “thing” is in itself a distraction from the very dangerous game that Obama (Rice, Power, etc.) are playing with Iran and Israel. By failing to draw a “Red Line” on Iran’s enrichment program and giving a fuck you to Israel, Obama is guaranteeing a real mess in the Mid-East. If Israel is forced into air strikes on Iran, we and they will be in deep shit. (IMHO, Iran is a distraction from the real Islamic nuclear threat, Pakistan.)

  47. In 1999, the House of Lords Act was passed, preventing (for the most part) seats in Great Britain’s legislature from being inherited. This November, we will see if seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are sometimes a matter of birthright.

The people of Massachusetts’ Fourth Congressional District will have to choose between Joseph P. Kennedy III, the 31-year-old scion of America’s so-called royal family, and Sean Bielat, 37, a Marine reserve officer and small business CEO. Bielat’s résumé, charisma and centrist, economy-driven positions would surely make him a favorite, if not a shoo-in, in many congressional races across the nation. But in this race, of course, it is Kennedy the Third who takes the spotlight.

The most recent media feature on Kennedy, a profile in The New York Times Magazine, reads more like a piece in Hello!, a British magazine dedicated to the exploits and meanderings of Europe’s young aristocrats. After cataloguing his first-class education and documenting his appearance (he looks like “Prince Harry,” according to The Times, with “blue-green eyes” and a “forelock” worthy of the Roman emperors), the article bizarrely recalls what it refers to as a “somewhat heroic moment” from Kennedy’s past: “a drizzly evening, in which Kennedy, after a school dance, single-handedly endeavored to find another party.”

    The Audacity of These Dopes
    By William L. Gensert

The media is on its knees. It’s the customary position of worship, and worship they do — Barack Obama — their chosen “one.”

He is the man they told us would halt the rise of the oceans and heal the planet, the man who had game like Lebron, knew more than his advisers, was more brilliant than all brilliance, the smartest man to ever be president, the winner of a Nobel Prize and 2 Grammy awards, who was like Lincoln, then FDR, then JFK, then Reagan, the man who would make America loved and respected the world over, the man who would balance the budget and usher in a new era of racial tolerance — no white America or black America, one America — the man who would get us out of our cars and break our dependency on foreign oil, who would change the economy into a green energy powerhouse, the man who would solve all the ills of all the world, the man who would change everything. He was new, he was different. He was better than the common man; he was more than us; he was like a god.

Three and a half years later, the only thing Barack Obama has improved is his golf game. For the media, when their messiah is 0 for a zillion, what can they do? It’s too late to quit. They are all in. They have to double down.

Mitt Romney makes a comment about how 47% of Americans are “dependent” on government handouts, and the media is outraged that he would tell the truth.

The rest of America is outraged that the figure is 47%.

This is why Americans cannot believe the media message that the president is winning. The press has to pretend, and they will, right up until November 6, when he will lose in a landslide.

Strip away the Obama myth, and what are you left with? You are left with a man who is nothing more than an illusion. There never was and never will be a Barack Obama, because he is not real.

The man reading from the teleprompter is nothing more than the sum total of the audacious hopes and dreams of delusional progressives — touted endlessly by a submissive press.

Read the whole thing. The author compares the POS to Mike Tyson.

Looks like the Republican won the Hispanic vote, at least on TV. By a sliver, Mitt Romney’s Wednesday appearance on Univision’s Meet The Candidates beat Barack Obama’s Thursday visit to the same forum. The GOP standard-bearer’s hour long sitdown, moderated by Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas pulled in an average of 2.8 million total viewers on September 19. The President’s September 20th appearance got an average of 2.7 million total. Among the 25-54 demo, the situation was reversed. Romney got 1.3 million in the demo while Obama got 1.4 million. And neither candidate did as well as the show regularly seen in that time slot. The recently launched novella Armor Bravio pulls in around 3.2 million total viewers on average. However, local Univision states, both Obama and Romney’s pre-taped appearances were number one among adults 18-49 in Houston, Phoenix and Los Angeles. The townhall visits by both candidates to the network, a first by both sides in a general election, were organized after the Commission on Presidential Debates rejected Univision’s request for a fourth debate between the two aimed at Hispanic voters. The Commission may have reject a debate but both campaigns wanted to show up. Around 8.7% of all voters are Hispanic, and they could be a significant bloc in swing states like New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, and Colorado.

Republicans set to pursue ‘Furious’ court case despite IG report

Issa: Dept. of Justice let American people down
Sen. Grassley reacts to Fast and Furious report

House Republicans are pressing forward with their contempt of Congress civil case over Operation Fast and Furious despite the release of a book-length investigative report that lawmakers on both sides of the aisle praised as comprehensive.

“We have no choice,” Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said on Fox News when asked about pursuing the court case.

The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee explained that the contempt of Congress vote against Attorney General Eric Holder earlier this year essentially “ordered” lawmakers to go to court to attempt to pry loose from the Obama administration documents they have withheld.

An Issa spokesman also cited an IG finding that the department responses to Congress were “troubling.” “This finding only enhances the importance of compelling the production of wrongly withheld documents,” the aide said.

Beyond that, Republicans argue that the nearly 500-page inspector general’s report doesn’t erase the need to take a stand against what they see as an inappropriate claim of executive privilege by the administration.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who said he “absolutely” backs pursuing the court case, claimed Congress needs to see the documents to “get to the bottom of this.”

“If the president of the United States gets away with 74,000 pages of executive privilege … you can see what an abuse of executive authority and executive privilege that is, and we can’t let that happen,” he told Fox News.

A major target for Republicans is a set of documents supposedly relating to a February 2011 letter to Congress that falsely claimed the ATF was unaware the operation involved the underground sale of assault weapons. The Justice Department’s inspector general report faulted officials for relying on inaccurate information in drafting that letter.

Republicans want to know more. But Democrats have nudged them to drop the case.

  57. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chair of the House Oversight Committee, has come out firing today after reports about collusion between the Department of Justice and far-left propaganda machine Media Matters for America. The reports showed that DOJ officials and Media Matters were trading information about particular conservatives, including Breitbart News editor Joel Pollak. “Not since Richard Nixon have we seen a president who puts together an enemies list and has a whole team pursuing it,” said Issa today. “That’s what’s happened in this administration. It’s sad. It’s not the America I want to see going forward. I sincerely hope that after the election, regardless, the American people will have made a statement that they won’t tolerate this.”

Issa also suggested that Congress look at whether Media Matters be able to keep its nonpartisan tax exempt status under current law. Furthermore, said Issa, DOJ Office of Public Affairs Director Trace Schmaler, who worked with Media Matters, should be fired. “These people represent the culture that President Obama brought in to Washington,” he said. “A culture of division; a culture that embraces the concept that the 1 percent is evil and somehow the rest of America somehow needs to punish the 1 percent.”

  58. World’s Obama fever cools

    (understatement from Politico)

When presidential candidate Barack Obama swept into Europe in 2008, television screens showed massive, adoring crowds. But the latest TV images from abroad are far more ominous: mobs in the Muslim world besieging U.S. embassies, torching American flags and even burning Obama himself in effigy.

The two sets of images show a gap between aspirations and reality: A president who is popular overseas has not managed to radically transform America’s standing in the world through the illuminating force of his biography or personality.

For many Democrats, the promise Obama held in that regard was part of his appeal in 2008 — a rejection of the jingoism of George W. Bush’s presidency in favor of a cosmopolitan newcomer. And Obama himself fueled those hopes.

“I truly believe that the day I’m inaugurated, not only does the country look at itself differently, but the world looks at America differently,” Obama told New Hampshire Public Radio in 2007. “If I’m reaching out to the Muslim world, they understand that I’ve lived in a Muslim country and, I may be a Christian, but I also can understand their point of view. … I’m intimately concerned with what happens in these countries and the cultures and the perspectives that these folks have, and those are powerful tools to be able to reach out to the world.”

As Obama prepares to stand for reelection, the surge in good feeling toward the U.S. that he ushered in has dimmed in much of the world. And evidence is scant that his popularity has advanced U.S. interests with America’s allies or its adversaries in a tangible way.

Obama aides say the frightening images from the Middle East and elsewhere don’t tell the whole story. In fact, polls show America’s standing abroad substantially improved from Bush’s final year in office, when much of the world recoiled from his cowboy image. Obama supporters also say the anti-American protests in the past week or so have been modest in size compared with the massive numbers who took to the streets in many of those same countries during the Arab Spring democracy movement.

But for conservatives, it’s a “told you so” moment, proving — as they believed all along — the notion that Obama could remake America’s image through the power of his personality was a fantasy.

“There was rapturous narcissism,” said Kori Schake, a senior foreign and defense policy adviser to Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential bid. “It was rapturously self-regarding to think that the change from President Bush to Obama would, all by itself, improve our standing. … Obama did improve American standing in the world by getting elected, and that disappeared as the result of his policies.”

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81479.html?hp=l13

  59. “I truly believe that the day I’m inaugurated, not only does the country look at itself differently, but the world looks at America differently,” Obama told New Hampshire Public Radio in 2007.

Now it’s Romney saying that the day he’s elected, the stock market will climb, businesses will start investing, foreigners will … oh, never mind.

  60. Think Harry Reid will apologize for his flat out lies about Romney’s taxes?

    Haha…that’s what I thought too.

  61. ACE

So Distrust In Media Hits New High. Not a surprise. It’s not like they are actually practicing their trade craft. They are now essentially Democratic Operatives With A Byline pushing false narratives. In a time where embassies are under siege, Americans killed or in harms way, the economy in the gutter the top stories focus on Romney. His taxes. A video. Anything and everything but anything negative about Obama. It’s not like there is a dearth of bad Obama stories. Why you have The Democrats False Narrative On The Auto Industry. How about The President Falsely Claiming Fast And Furious Program ‘Began Under Bush’? Or what about Obama’s Embassy Cover Story Dissolves? But somehow WaPo Declares Romney ‘Had The Worst Week’.

Why, pray tell, did Romney have a worse week than President Obama, whose Department of Justice was implicated in the Fast and Furious scandal and coverup, and was linked to far-left Media Matters in targeting conservative commentators; whose Secretary of Health and Human Services was ensnared in a Hatch Act violation; whose Secretary of State was embroiled in controversy about a cover-up over the murder of our ambassador to Libya; who was himself enmeshed in controversy about snubbing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to tweet pictures with pirates and hang with David Letterman; who spent the week bashing a YouTube filmmaker and cutting ads apologizing for the First Amendment to Pakistani Islamists; whose economic news was borderline disastrous?

I could go on and on but it is literally amazing that with all the so-called journalists out there, they all seem to miss out on stories that are essentially what they dream about coming across when they first thought of being a journalist. If a story hurts Democrats, they bury it or deflect attention from it. I bet we wouldn’t know who Bob Woodward is today if Nixon had been a Democrat.

You know, for the media types and liberals that went bat-shit crazy over the Bush lied theme, where’s the outrage here? It’s sad that Univision, not a major network in the traditional sense, is the one that asks questions that got Obama to drift out of his comfort zone. The funny thing is, the questions asked SHOULD have been in his comfort zone. They weren’t hard hitting questions. His gaffes in his answers let you know why Obama has been avoiding the press and only showing up for Letterman and Jay-Z and The View. They don’t ask hard questions. Pretty sad that the President of the United States fears his own media Democratic Operatives With A Byline.

Morning Jay: How Romney Can Win
    6:00 AM, Sep 20, 2012 • By JAY COST

The media tut-tuts about the ebbs and flows of the polls in the presidential race because – well, because that’s what the media does. But, in fact, if you look at every presidential race going back over the years when the incumbent party was defeated or almost defeated – 1948, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1992, 2000, 2004, and 2008 – most of them had some truly wild rides, many starting in September (the only real exception was 1960).

So let’s look beyond the polls and think about what Mitt Romney needs to do so that – when the polls finally stop bouncing – he lands on top. I think he needs to look very carefully at three previous presidential candidates and emulate them.

First, James K. Polk. In 1844, Polk was the first “dark horse” presidential nominee. His goal that year was to reunite the basic Jacksonian coalition that had triumphed in 1828, 1832, and 1836, but had faltered four years prior. To do that, he made four promises, all of which appealed to the majority coalition: 1. He would annex Texas. 2. He would settle the Oregon boundary dispute. 3. He would lower tariffs. 4. He would establish an independent treasury system. All of these appealed to the poor farmers in the South and West, which were the backbone of the Jacksonian Democracy. He won a narrow victory over Henry Clay that year.

Second, William McKinley. In 1896, McKinley was the GOP nominee running amidst an economic downturn much like today’s. His challenger – William Jennings Bryan – basically denounced the incumbent Democratic president, Grover Cleveland, and thus set up one the first true ideological battle of the post-Civil War era. McKinley pinned his candidacy on economic growth above all else. His campaign literature trumpeted him as the “advance agent of prosperity.” When he ran for reelection in 1900, he also pushed the theme of growth, proclaiming that Republican economic policies had provided voters with a “full dinner pail.”

Third, George W. Bush. No modern presidential candidate has understood the sound-bite quality of today’s campaign quite as well as Bush did in 2000. The man never went off script, knowing full well that voters would only ever hear snippets of any one speech. So, he would give the same speech again and again, and he would answer every question from the press by swinging back to his core message. Thus, in the aggregate swing voters would know exactly what his message was.

Romney would do well to take these lessons from Polk, McKinley, and Bush. First, start with McKinley: The entire premise of the Romney candidacy must be about prosperity – not just in terms of GDP growth over the next four years, but about putting the country on a sustainable path to growth. Romney has to hammer that home everywhere and anywhere. Indeed, I doubt that McKinley – the first modern conservative – would mind so much if Romney just adopted his “advance agent of prosperity” slogan!

Next, following Polk, Romney needs to get specific. But he also must keep it short and sweet – and all of the specific points have to swing back to prosperity, with a particular eye to the coalition he is looking to build. If we follow Polk’s model of four points, then I would suggest the following for Romney:

    1. He will reform the tax code. Specifically, he will cut all loopholes that the wealthy have purchased through lobbying efforts and use the money to cut taxes for small businesses and average Americans.

    2. He will reduce the deficit by cutting Obama’s wasteful spending and putting our entitlement system on a long-term sustainable path.

    3. He will repeal Obamacare and replace it with a system that emphasizes competition and portability – making health insurance more affordable and more secure.

    4. He will lower the cost of energy and food. On energy, he will open up new areas for oil drilling and green-light the Keystone pipeline. On food, he will end the madness of the Obama Fed’s money printing, which only helps Wall Street while raising the price of basic necessities for the average American.

This is a “full dinner pail” / “advance agent of prosperity” pitch, even down to the monetary aspect of point 4, which McKinley would surely love. Romney should take these four points and, like Bush, repeat them again and again, then again and again. By Election Day, every swing voter should be able to repeat: “tax reform, deficit reduction, repeal Obamacare, drill baby drill, reform the Fed.”

If he does that, he will win.

Spinning over Libya – BostonHerald.com By Boston Herald Editorial Staff
    Friday, September 21, 2012 – Updated 1 day ago

… In all four heroes were lost on Sept. 11 and still the Obama administration continues to lie, obfuscate and shade the truth of what happened that day in Benghazi…this president has the nerve to criticize Mitt Romney for “shooting first and aiming later.”
Even the head of Libya’s interim government has insisted that the attack was premeditated — that there was nothing “spontaneous” about it. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) wasn’t buying the White House spin. Neither was Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.). And neither should the American public.

  65. and the evidence keeps coming in.

AP: Benghazi consulate attack was led by 50 masked men using “military tactics”; Update: Libyan officials “absolutely convinced” attack was planned

I don’t want to inch too far out on the limb here, but I’m starting to suspect that this was preplanned.

U.S. intelligence indicates that 50 or more people, many of them masked, were responsible for the Sept. 11 assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi. Gun trucks provided added firepower. The attackers set up a perimeter, controlling access in and out of the compound. A first wave of attacks sent the Americans fleeing to a fallback building, where a second group of extremists beset them with precise mortar fire.

Intelligence reports were still coming in, but officials told The Associated Press that what may have initially seemed like a protest over an anti-Islam movie that had spun out of control now showed the hallmarks of a more sophisticated operation.

In a country coming off a civil war, a level of battlefield savvy does not prove the attack on the compound was planned well in advance. How much planning went into the operation and whether it could have been detected or prevented remain unanswered questions, officials said.

I’ve made this point before, but the debate we’re mired in over how “preplanned” the operation was is so stupid that it’s worth making again. Isn’t it more damning of the administration if the attack was planned in a few hours rather than a few weeks? If your consulate is smack dab in the middle of an area that’s teeming with jihadist groups that are heavily armed, battle-seasoned, and able to operate with impunity thanks to a barely functioning central government, then it’s incumbent upon the State Department to provide strong security at the consulate. You can’t rely on U.S. intelligence to detect and disrupt a plot in advance, since there are too many militias to keep close tabs on and there won’t necessarily be much “advance” time. You need armed troops prepared for the worst already in place. What did we get instead? Ask the Wall Street Journal:

Taliban Attack Results In Worst American Airpower Loss Since Vietnam

To be clear, this attack and this massive loss of airpower happened last week. The reason this information might be news to you over a week later is due to our media’s depraved indifference to reporting any truth that might hurt Barack Obama’s reelection chances.
John Hudson at “The Atlantic” has the story but his angle is entirely wrong. He blames the lack of coverage of this disaster — or at least coverage with the proper perspective — on the fact that after ten years of war, Americans have become desensitized to these kinds of reports. But we all know that’s utter hokum.
The Taliban attack on an air base in southern Afghanistan on Friday drew coverage for the way the insurgents cloaked themselves in U.S. army uniforms to gain a tactical advantage, but few have taken note of the historical proportions of the damage inflicted. John Gresham, at the Defense Media Network, has published a detailed account of the attack on Camp Bastion, in which two Marines were killed, six U.S. Marine Corps jet fighters were destroyed, and two more “significantly” damaged. Those facts were all carried in most reports, but if that just sounds like a typical damage report from a decade-long war, you’re wrong. Gresham explains the devastating damage done to VMA-211, the name of the Marine Corps attack squadron that was most affected last week, noting that it is “arguably the worst day in [U.S. Marine Corps] aviation history since the Tet Offensive of 1968.”
This has nothing to do with “desensitization” — if that’s even a word. If the situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating to this point and to the point where we’re no longer able to protect our servicemen from our supposed Afghan allies during joint operations, I think the American people want to know this. Either we’re there to win this thing or we are not, and if we’re not, let’s get the hell out.
But the way in which the media told the story of this wildly successful Taliban attack isn’t about perspective, it’s about context — context extremely damaging to an Obama Administration that’s puffed out its chest as National Security Heroes.
For the last few years all we’ve heard from the media and Obama is bragging over this so-called “smart power” that allowed us to disengage from the Middle East and welcome the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood to fill the power vacuum that disengagement created. But now that those chickens are coming home to roost in Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Pakistan, and in dozens of hot spots throughout the region, the media is doing everything in its power to ensure the story isn’t allowed to crystallize into what it truly is — the story of the Obama Administration’s breathtaking failure, incompetence, and fecklessness.
What we have had for four years now is a corrupt media working hand-in-hand with the Obama White House to cover up and downplay every kind of bad news. The media’s behavior in his regard has only gotten impossibly worse since Obama’s reelection campaign began. But over the last few weeks, the media’s shilling has devolved into nothing less than dereliction of duty.
We can’t even sing that old refrain, What would the media do if Bush… because Bush never scapegoated an American citizen in order to take the focus and blame off of his own security failures. Bush never told the American people that the successful assassination of an American ambassador by al-Qaeda was a spontaneous protest over a film gone haywire.
But it’s probably is safe to say that in final days of Bush’s reelection bid, had America suffered its worst airpower loss since Vietnam and an ambassador been assassinated due to unforgivable U.S. security failures, the media would’ve made damn sure the American people knew exactly what happened.
With results that are tragic in both the global and personal sense, an American president’s foreign policy is collapsing all around us, and the only stories the American media will tell are those that will help drag him over the November finish line.

  72. Well, no need for tinfoil for why Obama and co are loathe to call the Libya massacre a terror attack. If they did that would be one more item to add to Obama’s failures — that is, he failed to charm the Muslims abroad about what a tremendous guy he is that they should all have given up clinging bitterly to their guns and religion at his begging directive.

  73. What is interesting about the above schedule is NBC was DQ’d. They are, after all, not a news organization. It is unfortunate that CNN made it, because they are second only to NBC for invidious bias and corruption of polls. It is unfortunate that ABC made it too, because they are second to CNN, and at times worse. There is only two ways to reform the system. Take big money and the media out of it.

  74. As far as I’m concerned, the American “news networks” are just dem operatives, lefties pretending the are real journalists. I’ve noticed the local stations tend to do better reporting that the liberal establishment, after all they are held to account for any lies much more quickly as they are local.

CNN Reveals Finding Ambassador Christopher Stevens’ Journal And Discloses Reporting With It

This morning CNN revealed that it scavenged Ambassador Chris Stevens’ diary from the U.S. consulate in Benghazi where he was murdered in a terrorist attack on Sept. 11.

CNN Reveals Finding Ambassador Christopher Stevens’ Journal And Discloses Reporting With It

NEW YORK — Anderson Cooper revealed Friday night that CNN had found U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens’ personal journal following the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed him and acknowledged the network used the journal in its reporting without previously disclosing the source.

On Wednesday on his show, “Anderson Cooper 360,” Cooper told Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) that “a source familiar with Ambassador Stevens’ thinking told us that in the months before his death he talked about being worried about the never-ending security threats that he was facing in Benghazi and specifically about the rise in Islamic extremism and growing al Qaeda presence.” The source, Cooper continued, “also mentioned [Stevens] being on an al Qaeda hit list.”

But what Cooper didn’t reveal at the time was that CNN’s sourcing was tied, at least partially, to Stevens’ thinking as written in his personal journal.

The Huffington Post reached out to CNN Friday afternoon after receiving a tip that the network may have obtained Stevens’ journal. CNN had no immediate comment, but referred to Cooper’s comments after they aired.

On Friday’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” which airs at 8 p.m., Cooper acknowledged the network had obtained the journal and that it played a role in CNN’s reporting.

On Wednesday of this week, we reported that a source familiar with Ambassador Stevens’ thinking said in the months before his death, Ambassador Stevens talked about being worried about what he called the never-ending security threats in Benghazi.
We also reported that the ambassador specifically mentioned the rise in Islamic extremism, the growing Al Qaeda presence in Libya and said he was on an Al Qaeda hit list. The information for that report, like all of CNN’s reporting, was carefully vetted. Some of that information was found in a personal journal of Ambassador Stevens in his handwriting.

We came upon the journal through our reporting and notified the family. At their request, we returned that journal to them. We reported what we found newsworthy in the ambassador’s writings. A reporter followed up on what we found newsworthy, as I said, in the ambassador’s writings.

  78. so, let me get this straight, they found the journal, and correctly returned it to the family, however they used the information in that journal for their reporting!? And they never told their viewers they got the info from an assassinated ambassador’s journal?

    WoW.

  79. Also, actually the CIA, FBI would be wanting that diary.

Now if Fox had done this, the calls to shut it down would be amazing.

  80. moon, yes, you’re right, actually since its a crime scene, CNN should have turned it into the CIA, who then would have given it back to the family. Instead CNN used it for its reporting and never told their audience where they got their info.

As you said, its sick, these are some sick people. No sense of any morals.

What is interesting about the above schedule is NBC was DQ’d.
    *

wbb – Apparently this is what happened from what I read. O team did not want Fox and R team did not want MSNBC/NBC. For the first debate, they got Jim Lehrer out of his semi-retirement because he is generally
viewed by both parties as relatively unbiased. (Gwen Ifill apparently went into a state of shock
when she first heard the news because she thought she was a shoo-in for that slot and so did
Judy Woodruff.) Martha Raddatz of ABC was a compromise host but she is ill-fitted for VP debate as her
speciality is national security/foreign affairs. R team let it go on Candy Crowley of CNN, because
it was a town hall format and she would not be asking her own questions. The last debate (by that time
the die would be cast anyways) went to CBs and Bob Shieffer is generally an okay guy. (Remember, during the Bush years, the Dem criticism against Bob was that he was partial to Bush because Bob’s brother was a partner
in Texas Rangers baseball team, when GW Bush was head of the team ownership.) So this is the best
Romney team could do and they did bargain hard.

  89. oh wow. WSJ now just found out, CNN went against the family’s wishes.

“WSJ: CNN reported on contents from Amb. Stevens journal against his family’s wishes. on.wsj.com/UoV42b”

So they took the journal, pretending in good faith to return it to the family, while at the same time using the contents of the journal to report on the Amb., AGAINST the wishes of the family.

CNN, what a pathetic PO$ network. PO$ is too good of a description.

  90. Frankly, the family should just sue CNN, what the hell kind of operation are those bozos running over there? Imagine if this was FOX!

  91. From WSJ:

Family now saying they told CNN not to use any of the journal’s contents in their reporting. CNN disputes they were ever asked that, State dept now says CNN is lying.

“CNN obtained the journal in Benghazi, where Mr. Stevens and three other Americans were killed in an attack by militants on the American consulate in the city on Sept. 11. It wasn’t clear exactly how CNN obtained the ambassador’s writings.

The episode marks a side drama in the aftermath of the consulate siege and highlights questions news organizations can encounter when they come across evidence also being sought by law enforcement or other government officials. Personal material important to surviving relatives represents an even-more delicate and unusual dilemma.

CNN said on its website that it notified the Stevens family “within hours” that it had the journal. But the Stevens family then reached out to the State Department, which arranged a telephone conference call between members of the Stevens family and CNN. In that call, the family personally appealed to the news organization to return the journal and to not publish or broadcast any of its contents, according to a Stevens family member and State Department officials.

The family told CNN during the call that it wanted to review the journal before the news media used it or alluded to it, saying the ambassador’s personal writings belonged to them.

Family members said they knew Mr. Stevens kept a diary but didn’t know what was in the journal obtained by CNN. The news organization initially provided the family with a transcript it prepared from the journal. SO THEY DIDN’T REALLY TURN IT IN INITIALLY.

State Department officials said they then made arrangements for CNN to hand over the diary itself to an Italian diplomat in Benghazi. CNN says it handed over the journal to a third party acting on behalf of the family within a day of finding it.

The State Department enlisted the aid of the Italian envoy because U.S. diplomats evacuated the city after the Sept. 11 attack. The State Department had arranged for the Italian diplomat to safeguard the diary until it could be handed over to American officials in Tripoli. It will then be brought to the U.S., where the family will be able to take possession of it.

Family members and State Department officials said CNN agreed during the Sept. 14 conference call to hold off on using the diary until the family had a chance to review its contents.

But family members and U.S. officials were surprised when CNN anchor Anderson Cooper appeared to use the information from the journal by attributing it to a source familiar with Mr. Stevens’s thinking.

In that broadcast, Mr. Cooper said the ambassador was worried about security threats in Benghazi and said he believed he was on an al Qaeda hit list.

A spokesperson for CNN said the network didn’t report directly from the journal, but corroborated the information through other sources. Mr. Stevens’s purported concerns about his safety came as questions were raised by the Obama administration’s congressional critics and others about the adequacy of security in the area.

Mr. Cooper addressed the question of the journal and the CNN reports in his Friday evening broadcast. He disclosed the station had the journal and that some of the information he reported on Wednesday originated from Mr. Stevens’s personal writings.

“Some of that information was found in a personal journal of Ambassador Stevens in his handwriting,” Mr. Cooper told viewers. “We came upon the journal through our reporting and notified the family. At their request, we returned that journal to them. We reported what we found newsworthy in the ambassador’s writings.”

The State Department disputed the CNN account.

Asked about how CNN handled the journal, Philippe Reines, a senior adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said it took repeated prodding to get CNN to agree to return the journal. ”

WHAT A BUNCH OF FKING BASTARDS CNN IS!

  92. There is so much lying going on in this Libyan disaster that they are all tying themselves up in loops and can’t keep the story straight.

This is going to be have to be discussed sooner or later, the longer this is left by the media, the more it is going to blow up in Obama’s face, Hillary’s face and the MSM’s face.

    Its a tinderbox.

  93. It did not even cross any one of their damn minds, how immoral this was! Using an just assassinated amb’s journal to do reporting, and to top it off, AGAINST the family’s wishes, and not even telling their viewers how they obtained that info. It did not even cross any of their minds how sick this is. Not one ounce of respect for the amb, his family. Disgusting.

  94. “We reported what we found newsworthy in the ambassador’s writings.”

SICK! This wasn’t some white paper published out in the open, it was his journal, his diary, his personal thoughts! “Writings” make it sound like published work, it was basically a private journal/diary! And just when I thought the MSM had reached a new low.

  95. “Asked about how CNN handled the journal, Philippe Reines, a senior adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said it took repeated prodding to get CNN to agree to return the journal. ”
    *******
Prodding???? It’s was found on US govt property that is also a crime scene. The FBI should have visited CNN and had Cooper, et.al. come to the Federal building for a chat.

  96. Who do you think costs more to support every year: the Queen of England or Barack Obama? If you guessed the Queen you are wrong by around $1,942,000,000. The citizens of Great Britain pony up approximately $58 million annually to support the Queen, a mere pittance compared to the $2 billion Americans spend supporting Barack Obama and his extravagant lifestyle. Presidential perks and budgets have been increasing steadily over the years, but no president has spent more on himself and his office than Barack Obama, and he has done this at a time when 23 million Americans are unemployed and America is carrying a $16 trillion debt. Apparently President Obama thinks leadership means living large while Americans suffer.

A new book by political insider, Robert Keith Gray, titled Presidential Perks Gone Royal makes for informative but disturbing reading. Gray served as appointments secretary to Dwight D. Eisenhower and as a member of Ike’s cabinet. He has also served Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush in various capacities. Consequently, he has seen the growth of presidential perks up close and personal and is able to bring an insider’s perspective to his analysis of them. I am indebted to Gray’s book for the facts presented in this column.

    See video and transcription at
    http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/09/mitt-romneys-economic-plan-win-then-do-nothing/262573/

    The Atlantic quotes Romney:

If it looks like I’m going to win, the markets will be happy. If it looks like the president’s going to win, the markets should not be terribly happy. It depends of course which markets you’re talking about, which types of commodities and so forth, but my own view is that if we win on November 6th, there will be a great deal of optimism about the future of this country. We’ll see capital come back and we’ll see — without actually doing anything — we’ll actually get a boost in the economy.

    The Atlantic writer comments:

As for doing nothing, that’s exactly what we’ve tried for the past two years. It hasn’t worked. Now, eventually it will “work” — in other words, housing will come back at some point, no matter what we do or do not do. It already might — with the Fed giving it a kick as well. But believing that our problem is we have the wrong person doing nothing is strange.

  99. It’s a fact that there is billions of dollars sitting in cash in people’s investment portfolios. This rally on Wall St. has relatively few involved. The economy is bad, Europe’s economy is bad and there is great uncertainty about the market. Small private investors are trying to preserve what’s left. A Romney win would spur renewed confidence that we would be on a better track.

I am truly surprised that Seniors….those on fixed incomes….are not moving en masse to Romney. Almost 0 interest rates are destroying retirement plans. Those of us in the private sector without pensions are facing having our skimpy portfolios being further decimated by Obama’s planned increased tax on investment gains.

Many of us with samll businesses have to deal with China,a rogue country that doesn’t recognize copyright laws. THere is a Chinese site that sells my images and literally all other published artists with pirated images. We don’t get a penny as they sell the work online internationally. The US gov has done nothing to protect the many American businesses that are being sytematically defrauded by the Chinese every day.

Trump gets it. That is why he is constantly raising the issue.

Spot-on. I said a few months ago when I decided to support Romney that his very election would spark renewed confidence among the economic players and that confidence undergirds the free market economy: People small and large will decide to invest instead of sitting on their meager savings.

Also, your complaint against China’s failure to uphold copyright laws is spot-on. The US govt has done nothing but petition China to protect copyright. The Chinese agree in principle, but they do nothing about it. It would be easy for them to pass copyright protection laws and then let people like yourself sue for infringements.

  102. Irresponsible free speech.

With a question mark, perhaps. Irresponsible if CNN gave away anything that should have been classified information concerning security, clues to the attackers, etc.

Otherwise, didn’t one story above say that the journal gave them guidance as to where to look for information to broadcast, but they didn’t quote the journal directly. Like the trope of a priest who hears a confession and can’t reveal it, but can use it to find other evidence which he can reveal.

As for telling viewers they had the journal and giving teasers about what they’d found in it — that WOULD have been sensationalistic, and sick.

  103. What is Obama going to do at the debates where there is nowhere to hide and Mitt Romney starts asking him about the mess in Libya, that is going to be one squirm to watch.

Media wont be able to cover for him then, it will millions of Americans watching him get called out, this is not 2008 Obama.

His record will be front and center and he is going to be off teleprompter.

  104. http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/09/free_barack_elect_romney.html

It is increasingly obvious that Obama wants to get out of the White House, not just to take vacations, visit Letterman, and go golfing, but to be free of the responsibilities of the office of President itself, and those horrid media types are doing everything in their power to make him stay where he is. It’s time to free Barack.

This week for the very first time, Obama got free of the phalanx of media guards — the gang Dorothy Rabinowitz of the Wall Street Journal, calls ” Pack Journalism” and faced actual questioning on Univision, instead of the yentas on The View, Entertainment Tonight, “Pimp With the Limp” and such, and he made clear what I’ve suspected for a long time: He wants out of the Presidency. Yes, you heard me — he wants O.U.T.

“The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t change Washington from the inside.” So said the Man whose 2008 campaign theme was “Hope and Change.” “You can only change it from the outside.”

There’s plenty of evidence that his passive aggression is behind much of his failure in office. How else to explain things like turning over his signature legislation, Obamacare, to Reid and Pelosi, refusing to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu in favor or a joke fest on Letterman where he claims not to even know the extent of the national debt? Going off to a fundraiser in Vegas as our embassies burn and a dead or dying Ambassador is being hauled through the streets of Benghazi?

Did he assume he was invulnerable to the wrath of Univision viewers? Did he assume they didn’t care that14 high officials were behind the ludicrously planned and operated Fast & Furious which resulted in the murder of hundreds of Mexicans and that undoubtedly Holder and Obama would themselves be implicated had they not withheld evidence from investigators? He is resisting our demands that he adequately perform the job of the Chief Executive, dodging all responsibility, blaming others for his failures. In short, he is intentionally refusing to perform his job.

    read on
    ……………………………….

Its what i thought, Obama does want out of the job but he can’t be seen to be quitting which means expect more screw ups, i think he will intentionally screw up the debates to do it. Obama wants out, many of us have been asking the question for a while now.

  105. So, the head of the Muslim Brotherhood is coming here to make demands. Who ever would have thought this could happen?

Egypt’s New Leader Spells Out Terms for U.S.-Arab Ties
On the eve of his first trip to the United States as Egypt’s new Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi said the United States needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world, showing greater respect for its values and helping build a Palestinian state, if it hoped to overcome decades of pent-up anger.

Maybe when he meets with him during the week, Bill Clinton can tell the MB leader that we are not interested in his kind of change. Surely, obama doesn’t have the guts. Nor the will, it would seem.

  106. A dig & a double dig.
Report: Morsi wants ‘real’ friendship with US
    (AP)–56 minutes ago
CAIRO (AP) — Before embarking on his first visit to the United States since becoming Egypt’s first freely elected president, Mohammed Morsi says Washington in the past earned ill will in the Middle East by backing dictators but now he envisions the two countries being “real friends.”
Morsi is heading to New York early Monday to attend the U.N. General Assembly meeting. In an interview with the New York Times published Saturday, he also said that the United States should not judge Egypt by its own standards — an apparent reaction to resentment in the Muslim country against an anti-Islam video produced in the United States.
It was his first interview with a U.S. publication since becoming president in the aftermath of the 2011 overthrow of Washington’s key strategic ally, Hosni Mubarak.

  107. “Mohamed Morsi said the United States needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world, showing greater respect for its values ”

Well OTurd and he are on the same page, Mr. OTurd wants to “fundamentally transform” the USA, more shariah compliant no doubt, bowing and apologizing for America. I’m sure OTurd will be happy to throw America, its foundation of the US Constitution way under the bus. After all, OTurd is a person more than happy to blame America for everything and treat the US Constitution as a piece of toilet paper.
Apparently “respect for its values” means respecting a society where free speech is limited by Shariah, women, gays, minorities are treated as second, third class citizens, butchering people who don’t agree with you, justice is based on a religion.

So, please Mr. OTurd by all means give your little speech at the UN where you will condemn some crackpot american living in CA for making some silly movie, by all means make an example of him on such a public stage, instead of actually defending his right or any other american’s right to free speech as protected by the Constitution, and thus promoting what America’s very basic foundations are, which obviously are so foreign to you. But please remember there are millions upon millions of real americans who will never bow to the shariah compliant crap that you so obviously favor, who will never apologize for America, and still & always remember how many millions died for this country from its very foundations and for what they died.

  109. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows President Obama and Mitt Romney each attracting support from 46% of voters nationwide. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

When “leaners” are included, the candidates are tied at 48%. Leaners are those who are initially uncommitted to the two leading candidates but lean towards one of them when asked a follow-up question.

Obama is supported by 89% of Democrats. Romney gets the vote from 85% of Republicans and holds a 12-point advantage among unaffiliated voters.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Republican voters are following the race on a daily basis, along with 47% of Democrats. Interest in the race is often a good indicator of turnout.

    ………………………

Romney leading independents by 12. So turnout is the big key.

  110. Debates: Obama camp downplays expectations, Romney looks for game changer

It isn’t often that top officials in President Obama’s campaign praise rival Mitt Romney. But when it comes to the presidential debates, there is no stopping the plaudits.

“Gov. Romney is a very skilled debater,” said Obama campaign manager Jim Messina. His boss, by contrast, is long and windy, “so clearly the governor has the advantage.”

The presidential debates begin in less than two weeks, an important moment in any campaign. The Romney camp has for months argued this is the moment for their candidate to shine. With Mr. Romney lagging behind in national and most state polls, he more than ever needs to make a mark.

As a result both campaigns are working hard to shape expectations.

The Obama campaign wants to set a low bar for the president’s performance, reflecting in part the reality that Obama’s debating skills are weaker than his other political assets. More importantly, the campaign is looking to the three presidential debates, the first of which will be in Denver on Oct. 3, not for a breakthrough, but as a fresh chance to deliver the president’s core message.

Romney and his advisers, by contrast, are talking up the opportunity for the debate to shake up the race. His top advisers have made clear he is spending a lot of time preparing. Romney began in the middle of the summer and spend almost all of the Democratic National Convention at the secluded Vermont estate of Kerry Healey, his former lieutenant governor in Massachusetts, where he ran practice sessions. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, played Obama in the simulations.

This summer, Romney advisers anticipated three key moments in the race. The first two – choosing a running mate and the national convention – have come and gone with Romney taking the lead. They are now pointing to the debates.

The extensive early preparation is unusual for a presidential candidate, as is the fact that his advisers publicized his preparations so widely.

Gee, so a tie in the polls is losing??? (never mind the polls, that over-sample dems by double digits)

Not once did they mention the Libyan attack, not once the economy, not once how OTurd is berating a film maker and not defending the very existence of a first amendment that lets that filmmaker use his right to speech, however insulting it is.

PATHETIC. No wonder 60%+ of Americans no longer trust the MSM, what a bunch of dopes.

Obama Gets Letterman, Mitt Gets Burned
While anti-American protests roil the Middle East, the media plays favorites in the presidential campaign.
By Larry Mendte 9/18/2012 Comments 3
In a few hours President Barack Obama will trade jokes on the set with David Letterman and then head off to a fundraiser with Jay Z and Beyoncé. At the same time, on the other side of the world, 20 American embassies will be under siege and a total of 65 will be on alert for violence.

The media doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. So, I guess it’s okay. And if Republican challenger Mitt Romney dare say a word of criticism about it, networks and the major newspapers will eviscerate him for being “callous” and “tone deaf.” That’s the way it is in Campaign 2012.

Today the media has been dutifully distracted by a excerpts of a videotape recorded at a May 7 Mitt Romney fundraiser, taken without the permission of Romney or the host of the event. The tape, released now to change the subject, is the lead story on all national newscasts. This as four Americans are killed in Afghanistan, nine are killed in a suicide attack in the same country, and much of the Muslim world is threatening war on America

It has been one week since all hell broke loose in Muslim dominated countries. On the anniversary of 9/11, the American embassy in Tripoli, Egypt was stormed, and a mortar attack set the consulate in Benghazi, Libya on fire, killing four Americans—including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, whose body was dragged from the burned-out building while the crowd cheered.

The excuse for the violence and savagery is a poorly produced YouTube video that depicts the prophet Muhammad as a sex maniac who enjoys mass murder. However, it is becoming alarmingly clear that the protests are about much more than a religious insult.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was quick to criticize a statement, released by the embassy in Cairo, that condemned the film and apologized to the protestors. The media was then quick to criticize Mitt Romney. He was “crass and tone deaf,” in the view of MSNBC’s Chuck Todd. He had committed a “slander” against the president, according to Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. And the criticism lasted through the Sunday morning talk shows, with Chris Matthews opening his show on NBC with this loaded question: “What made Mitt Romney throw himself head first into a tragic event before he knew all of the facts? Was it to quiet his conservative critics? Was it to push the neo-con line? Was it to fight this 24/7 campaign, even on this dangerous terrain?”

Are they the only choices? Couldn’t it be that Mitt Romney is the Republican standard bearer and the president’s opponent? Isn’t it his job to point out when the administration makes mistakes? Apparently not, according to the media, who ignored the fact that the White House also pulled away from the embassy statement.

The media’s first commandment is clear: Thou shall not take the name of President Obama in vain during this crisis. That goes for everyone, including Mitt Romney.

And so Mitt Romney is not allowed to talk about the crisis, at the same time the president ignores it. With any mention of the violence, Mitt Romney will be accused of playing politics, while the President makes political appearances and campaign fundraisers. The president is allowed to ignore the crisis with the hopes that it will just go away and Mitt Romney must follow suit or be pulverized in print and pontification.

And so as reports surface in the foreign press that the administration was warned three days before the attack in Libya that killed four, the president is allowed to ignore them because the American media is ignoring them. When the president of Libya says the attack was planned and carried out by terrorist groups from other countries, the Obama administration is allowed to deny it through UN ambassador Susan Rice without contention. The public is expected to oblige with a bout of media-induced temporary amnesia that the Pentagon also called the attacks premeditated late last week. And now as as report surfaces this morning that Rice lied when she claimed two of them men killed in the attacks were part of added security, it’s time to release the Romney tape and change the topic.

The whole thing stinks of a campaign-inspired cover-up. At a time when we need the media to ask who knew what and when, they are bullying the president’s opponent into remaining silent in the name of a crisis that the President is pretending does not exist.

The shame is we need a strong and unbiased media at times like this. When I witnessed Susan Rice deny the undeniable on behalf of the White House, I thought of Colin Powell at the UN. The Secretary of State was dispatched by the Bush Administration to sell the Iraq War to the world based on flawed intelligence. Most in the media acknowledge the lack of scrutiny at that time as a low point in American journalism. And yet, here they are doing it again.

Like Nero playing music as Rome burns, the president is allowed to appear on talk shows and fundraisers with stars, conspiring in co-denial with the media, while the world is engulfed in anti-American violence. At a time when the president deserves the most scrutiny, the media are letting us down once again. Enjoy Letterman tonight, as the world burns.
    http://blogs.phillymag.com/the_philly_post/2012/09/18/obama-letterman-mitt-burned/

  120. You don’t seem to understand that media professionals have an obligation to be objective and tell both sides of the story. It’s in the journalistic code taught in all journalism schools. It’s one thing for the average citizen to say whatever they want no matter how extreme their POV. It’s another for a so-called professional journalist to do the same thing. That’s called journalistic malpractice. Look it up. Unfortunately, with Holder and the DOJ providing the example the slobbering big media love affair with the POS continues with absolutely no consequences.

    Yet.

But with the public’s approval of LSM down to an all time low – under 40% – and the rise of new media this monopoly on information gathering and reporting is changing and the LSM media model is tanking. Soon they will all be out of work. Too bad that won’t happen before the 2012 election.

In the meantime, I suggest you research journalistic ethics. I’d provide a link but it’s clear you have no interest in the professional requirements for the job.

  121. ” When I witnessed Susan Rice deny the undeniable on behalf of the White House, I thought of Colin Powell at the UN. ”

The same thought crossed my mind. And she was so adamant, over and over again on every single tv channel. Brought back memories of nuclear tubes Powell was talking about at the UN.

American MSM is just an extension of the Oturd campaign at this point. Lie, coverup, mislead, incomplete truths. All part of their jobs to help OTurd.

  122. I apologize if this was posted before/

Morning Jay: Historically, Obama Isn’t in Strong Shape

    6:00 AM, Sep 21, 2012 • By JAY COST

Conservatives are growing worried, and Democrats gleeful, about Obama’s lead in the polls, basically for the same reason: it is late in the season (or so it seems), and the incumbent president has a lead. That is a good thing for Obama.

Perhaps, but three fundamental points need to be kept in mind.

First, Obama is weaker than previous incumbents who went on to victory. When we are looking through history, the only poll we can really utilize is Gallup if we want an apples-to-apples comparison. For better or worse, Gallup is the only polling organization consistently doing polling of registered voters since 1952. Even media outlets that have been polling a long time have changed pollsters over the years, so Gallup is the only game in town when we are investigating history.

Here is where Gallup has found incumbent presidents at this point, i.e. roughly mid-September, since 1956.

Through 2004 every incumbent who was above 50 percent at this point won, and every incumbent who was under 50 percent at this point lost. As of today, Obama is under 50 percent.

Additionally, most incumbents end up winning by a smaller margin (or losing by a larger one) than they are sporting in the Gallup poll at this point. The exceptions are Dwight Eisenhower in 1956, Gerald Ford in 1976 (who closed his rather large gap with Carter down to virtually nothing by Election Day), and George H.W. Bush in 1992 (whose position at this point was skewed by the temporary exit of Perot from the campaign). On average, the margin moves by 3.7 percent in favor of the challenger between the mid-September Gallup registered voter poll and the Election Day results.

The second point to keep in mind is that, yes, we are late in the season, but so was the Democratic National Convention. This president still appears to be enjoying a post-convention bounce. If you look at many of the polls in most of the RCP averages – both national and state – their survey dates began within one week of Obama’s speech. If we figure that a bounce period lasts for two weeks, then no polls have been conducted outside the bounce period.

To appreciate just how late the DNC was this year, consider it in relation to past incumbent conventions in the postwar era.

In fact, this year’s DNC was the latest incumbent convention in American history! That absolutely has to be taken into account when examining the president’s standing in the polls, and it means we would be wise to discount his margin by a little bit.

Third, Obama and Romney have basically been trading leads in the Gallup poll since May. The only postwar incumbent who did not pull away early in the registered voter poll and still won was George W. Bush, whose victory also happens to have been the narrowest margin for an incumbent since 1916. (Truman trailed in polls of national adults through the summer and fall of 1948.)

The bottom line: Historically speaking, this president is in weaker shape than any postwar incumbent who went on to victory, with the possible exception of Harry Truman; he is enjoying a convention bounce later in the cycle than any incumbent in the postwar era; and if he manages to win, it will probably be via a true squeaker, with plenty of twists and turns to come.

Democrats are celebrating and Republicans panicking prematurely. I’d wait until October 1 to see where the race is before I give anybody a decisive edge one way or the other

  123. Basil, that’s good to see. Hoping it get romney up even higher soon. I’ve never seen this level of complicit-ness between media, which is supposed to hold people in power to account, and the people in power. Never seen anything like it. I thought 2008 was bad, 2012 is even worse.

  124. had come to post this. why doesn’t justlittle georgie ask “so when did romney stop beating his wife”.

What the hell kind of question is this??! Not one damn time asked about OTurd’s redistribution-ist comments, oh right I forget, little georgie stephanolous agrees with it. They’ll never ask any real question since they are all in the tank with Obama.

  125. Having declared that his presidential campaign does not need a makeover, Republican Mitt Romney raised millions of dollars at two fundraisers in southern California on Saturday to help bankroll the final weeks of the race.

“I’m not even going to be able to go home today. We’re just coming to town to see you and keep the campaign going,” Romney told a well-heeled crowd at the Grand Del Mar Resort hotel in Del Mar, California, about 12 miles from his beachfront house in La Jolla.

Some 650 supporters – including diet guru Jenny Craig – paid from $1,000 to $25,000 a head to hear Romney’s 40-minute speech in Del Mar, have their photograph taken with the candidate and eat roast chicken breast served on a bed of Israeli couscous.

Spencer Zwick, the campaign’s national finance chairman, assured donors their money would be spent wisely: to build a “massive ground game across the country in those swing states” and buy more television advertising.

The second Saturday event, at the Beverly Hilton, pulled in $6 million, Romney said at the start of his remarks.

About 1,500 tickets were sold at three tiers: $1,000, $15,000 and $50,000. Guests were entertained by comedian Dennis Miller and songwriter/producer David Foster.

    ………………..

Apparently left California with over $6 million + in donations………..doesnt sound like a dead campaign to me.

  126. Obama goes on the view because it reaches a large female audience. Romney really needs to go on shows like this as well even though they will try to eviscerate him. He should bring Ann on and it will help. He needs more women votes to win. Maybe even go o that new Couric show . While these people r not very objective, he can come off well if he is prepared by the right people. I would go as far as to say he should reach out to even Oprah.

  127. Oprah, Couric, The View…are you joking, i would not give them any of your valuable, they are in the tank leeches and deserve no interviews.

Romney should not give any of those biased shows one iota of his time, they are not worth it and will edit it to make him look worse. Just no point, they would twist it into how they want it to look.

  128. Are you freaking kidding me…………….

Obama campaign: The President doesn’t need to meet with foreign leaders – because he has a phone

Obama campaign adviser and former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs defended President Barack Obama’s decision to not to meet with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu or any other world leaders during their upcoming visits to the United States for the United Nations general assembly meeting, saying that the United States President doesn’t need to meet face-to-face with foreign leaders – phone calls are sufficient.

Gibbs made the comments on Fox News Sunday in response to criticisms from host Chris Wallace that the President was making time in his schedule for “The View” and “The View” host Whoppi Goldberg during the trip to New York, but not for foreign leaders.

“Chris, they have telephones in the White House.” Gibbs said, adding that since the September 11 strikes on US embassies in Libya and Egypt President Obama has spoken on the phone with both the Libyan and Egyptian Presidents. “We don’t need a meeting in Washington just to confer with leaders.”

He tried to turn the tables on Wallace, saying that if Obama was doing an interview with him instead of the ladies of “The View,” Wallace would “probably have no problem with that.” (Wallace used that opportunity to point out that the President hasn’t even done an interview with him, “but that’s not the point.”)

The former Obama administration official said that he has “no problem” with the President’s decision not to meet with foreign leaders in lieu of appearing on “The View” because he will still be “actively involved” in the conference.

By actively involved, Gibbs means the President will merely be giving a speech during the international affair, Wallace pointed out.

Gibbs explained that even though the President himself would not be meeting with world leaders, other qualified administration officials would be taking meetings on his behalf.

“Well, look Chris, I think that we have schedules, leaders have schedules, and in many cases those schedules aren’t going to overlap,” Gibbs claimed. “But understand that Ambassador Rice will be seeing many people and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be seeing people.”

He also tried to put the incident in a broader context, saying that,”This isn’t just about one meeting on one particular day in New York. The President’s actively involved and engaged in the most dangerous place in the world every single day of the week.”

    ………………………..

You got that world leaders, if he feels like it, he’ll phone you.

  129. I don’t like one bit that MB guy from beggar nation Egypt has the audacity to set terms for US-Arab ties. Obama is awol.

I also don’t like how Hillary is caught in this Libya mess. Why did she go along with the charade and misinformation? Is she lying when she says she was not aware of any threats/danger to Stevens’ life?

  130. Obama has been AWOL for ages, he really just wants out of the job, i really think thats the case, this happens with people in the last month of their job, they just wander off and do eff all.

He has a real “ahh whatever” attitude and its showing and still the muppets will vote for it.

Simple reason. He can take the phone call in a room with his teleprompter and surrounded by his advisors. Maybe including HIllary — when she’s not out attending a real meeting for him.

Good thing really, becasue it leaves Hillary in charge. (Remember the old tv show Remington Steele?)

    PRESIDENT OBAMA’S HORRIBLE SEPTEMBER

What color is the sky in the political media’s world? Each week this month has begun with some variation of “Romney is doomed.” We’ve had rabid amplification of Romney “gaffes” interspersed with the traditional “campaign infighting” stories. There has also been a dash of trolling for anonymous quotes from “GOP strategists” wringing their hands and predicting defeat in the Fall. Meanwhile, Obama floats from one disaster to another with barely a mention in the press.
Let’s take a moment to recount a few items plaguing the Obama Administration this month alone.
Economy. The month began with another dismal jobs report. The economy only created a very anemic 96k jobs in August, far below what’s needed to keep pace with population growth. Almost 400k gave up looking for work and left the labor force, which sunk to its lowest level in 30 years.
A host of companies lowered earnings guidance for the next quarter. Most concerning were dramatically lower expectations for economic bellwethers FedEx and Norfolk Southern. These are consistent with the sharp turndowns in manufacturing. The economy is simply going to get worse over the next month.
All of this puts a lie to Obama’s claims that the economy is recovering. It was about a year ago, as every economy coming out of recession does, but it isn’t now. On current trends, we are likely heading into another recession.
Fed Action. Ben Bernanke essentially threw up his hands this month, saying “what the hell” and announcing their intention to just keep printing money until the economy comes around. This 3rd round of Quantitative Easing isn’t likely to be any more effective than the first two rounds. Eventually there will be a tidal wave of inflation. The Fed’s hubris is that precisely right before inflation fully kicks in, they will be able to stave it off with interest rate hikes. Of course, that will create its own pain unless growth has become very robust. Regardless, the Fed move is explicit confirmation that the economy is faltering.
Foreign Policy. The spiking of the football over the death of bin Laden is soooo last year. The muslim world has erupted in protests against the West in response to the actions of the Obama Administration. Our ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were assassinated in a terrorist attack. An attack we were warned about but did nothing to prevent. In response, Obama has embarked on a massive apology campaign over an amateurish video that had next to nothing to do with any of the protests other than serving as a convenient pretext.
Almost worse, the Obama Administration has been caught blatantly lying about the events surrounding the assassinations in Libya. Our UN Ambassador went on the Sunday shows and said there was absolutely no advance warning of the attack. She also claimed it wasn’t really an attack, but a spontaneous protest that unfortunately turned violent. The Administration now admits that everything she said was wrong.
This, though, is perhaps the most damning indictment: Obama learned of the attacks in Libya soon after they began. He then proceeded to decisively…go to bed.
Afghanistan. Obama campaigned in 2008 on a promise to implement a new “surge” strategy in Afghanistan that would see the US to a clear victory. The last of those “surge” troops left Afghanistan this month, with the US position worse than it was 4 years ago. Last week, in a modern day Tet Offensive, Taliban fighters attacked the main allied base, killing several Americans and destroying 6 (!) fighter jets.
The Obama Administration’s chief strategy in Afghanistan has been to build up an Afghan security force. The US worked with these forces tactically to try to defeat the Taliban. Those efforts are over, however, after several incidents when these security forces, our supposed Allies, murdered several Americans. We will now simply limp out of the country. Not since the 70s has American liked this powerless.
Fast and Furious. Last week, the DOJ’s Inspector General released its “investigation” of the Fast and Furious scandal. The reports improbable conclusion was that virtually everyone at DOJ knew about the disastrous program except Eric Holder. An appropriate fall guy has been found within DOJ, but the stench lingers. The IG report also reveals that the White House actively declined to cooperate with the investigation.
Campaign. While the media trained every gun in their arsenal against Mitt Romney, Obama lost his convention bounce. A week after the Democrat convention, Obama had enjoyed a 5-6 bounce in his support. Despite the covering fire from the media, that bounce is gone. Obama and Romney are tied in polls from AP and Rasmussen. Obama clings to a 2 point lead among registered voters in the latest Gallup tracking poll. Setting aside some ridiculously skewed national and swing state media polls, the race is tied.
At this point in the campaign in 2008, the McCain campaign was essentially broke and off the air in several key swing states. This year, however, Romney has a big cash advantage over Obama and is set to unload an ad barrage in all the swing states. The very fact that Democrat strongholds like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Michigan are even considered at least somewhat competitive this year underscores Obama’s vulnerabilities.
Up to this point, Obama has spent $200 million to disqualify Romney from the Presidency. He has benefited from an enormous in-kind contribution from the media seeking to do the same. Yet, the race is where it was before Obama’s ad barrage. And now, Romney’s ad barrage will begin. September will probably be remembered as the Obama campaign’s high-water mark.
Keep in mind, the items above are just the highlights of the problems plaguing the Obama Administration this month. I haven’t mentioned our deteriorating relations with Israel, Iran, Syria or record-high gas prices. The media have probably kept 30 career-making Pulitzer Prizes’ on the table in ignoring them. But, don’t sigh for them my friends. Their zeal for investigations and journalism will return when Romney takes the oath of office in January.

  133. yeah, Obama has been awol for a long time but this is really serious. Who are these two-bit religious dictators telling us what to do..

  134. ” When I witnessed Susan Rice deny the undeniable on behalf of the White House, I thought of Colin Powell at the UN. ”

The same thought crossed my mind. And she was so adamant, over and over again on every single tv channel.

    =========================

Perhaps it was the same film clip repeated over and over again by every tv channel?

  136. evidence, the diary, was removed from a crime scene.

    ====================

Hm? An American’s diary was removed by an American journalist and then given to American authorities. If the journalist had left it alone, who would have got it?

Perhaps the American investigators needed the help. (Or, if you’re into WH cover-ups….)

  137. The question the country will answer in Novemeber is whether it knows the difference between a leader and a celebrity.

Romney has demonstrated leadership and compassion thoroughout his life. But he does not like to brag about himself or what he has accomplished. The fact that he does not do so, leaves his opponent free to fill in the blanks, and that is not good.

Asshole, aka Obama, has NEVER demostrated been caught at any time in his life demonstating leadership. Leadership involves DECISIONS, and asshole is afraid to make one. Yes, afraid. Asshole is, however, a grand celebrity of the Paris Hilton brand. He goes to all the right places and gets seen with all the right people, and when duty calls is is typically AWOL/

Letterman is a JACKAL. If you want to see something that will–or should turn your stomach, it is to watch the JACKEL fixate on the asshole with rapt attention while the jackal offers up some bromide like I realize you must be president of ALL the people–which is so antithetical to his warped character and personality, that it should have brought down the house in gales of racous laughter/

Instead, the jackal behaved like he was in the presence of a saint–St Obama, the useless one. He stared with love in his eyes and fed him all kinds of softball crap. It is beyond sickening. President of all the people . . . give me a fucking break.

They say a truly stupid man is never puzzled. Case in point, Jessee Ventura–the biggest asshole maggot on the planet this side of pedarist Matt Tabbin of Rolling Stone. Jessee was on this numbnutz Peeeeeeeeeerrrrrwwwww Mongnadegtanzvelt–dullest of the talking head–for two hours. Two hours. And during that 2 hours the idiot ex Governor touched all the bases of a certified lunatic Ogama supporter.

With no particula prodding from the dullard Morgan, he gave us one burst of verbal flatulation after another with the high points being Obama inherited a mess, and we must decide in this election whether we want to go back to the old Republican policies that got us into this mess. A fair question would have been : i) you seem to be laboring under the delusion that Romney is Bush–explain?, ii) do we want to continue with a man who made the mess you refer to worse?

If you ask me, Ventura has had his head slammed into the wrestling ring turnbuckle once too often. Maybe even twice too often. But however often, often enough to lose any claim to sanity he ever had.

  138. I also don’t like how Hillary is caught in this Libya mess. Why did she go along with the charade and misinformation? Is she lying when she says she was not aware of any threats/danger to Stevens’ life?

    =======================

Or is it just possible that Hillary is telling the truth about the whole thing, and the people charging ‘charade’ are at fault?

I’m inclined to trust Hillary rather than the right-wingers who have been attacking her and Bill for decades.

  139. the high points being Obama inherited a mess, and we must decide in this election whether we want to go back to the old Republican policies that got us into this mess. A fair question would have been : i) you seem to be laboring under the delusion that Romney is Bush–explain?

    ====================

That point might be better served by comparing Romney’s policies with the policies of Bush and other recent Republicans.

  141. Obama Taking Appeasement to UN

    By: scipio62 (Diary) | September 23rd, 2012 at 11:05 AM | 0

    RESIZE: AAA

Well, well, well. For nearly two weeks, Barack Obama and his hypocritical martinets tried to blame the trailer to some anti-Mohammed movie, a movie that may not have even been made (unless the trailer is it), for most of the violent unrest in the Middle East by Muslims (they finally admitted the murders of Americans in Benghazi were caused by terrorists, but have still tried to say the video had a hand in it). Instead of just denouncing the violence, Obama and fellow idiot Hillary Clinton had to “shoot first” and “aim later” by denouncing the video as well in a vain and stupid attempt to placate Islamist terrorists and other Muslim radicals. They even went so far as to spend taxpayer dollars on an advertisement in Pakistan to scapegoat the video and the filmmaker. This is on top of leaking the filmmakers name and address and having him arrested (released shortly thereafter), along with trying to intimidate Google into pulling the video (Google refused). (The ad did not have the desired affect.)

Back at a private art gallery in New York City, the infamous “Piss Christ”, paid for by taxpayers, is being displayed. As of now, all that talk from Obama and his regime about religious tolerance is only being directed towards appeasing Islamist terrorists and warning Americans not to exercise their rights to free speech by being critical of Islam. But when the religion is the one Obama, Clinton, and the other Democrat puppets claim to profess, nothing. Not a single, solitary word. No phone call to the gallery to intimidate them into taking the exhibit down, no midnight raid on the welfare whore who produced this “art”. It’s almost as if Obama is daring Christians to burn down the gallery and the exhibit, because that’s what it seems to take for Obama to extend the tolerance talk towards his supposed faith.

Forget about it. Obama plans on taking his Islam appeasement show to the UN this week. Never one to let the Constitution get in his way, the incompetent Obama will show the world how the buck stops at everyone else but him as he grovels to terrorists, aided and abetted by the corrupt Democrat media. As John Nolte says, Obama will make this “the ultimate Big Brother moment of this presidency.”

  142. Does anyone know who the debates will be led by?

People like Tingles, or Katie Have you ever read a book or news paper before…type assholes, and will the candidates have enough time to answer with depth, or will they just be asked silly questions that favor That One’s incompetence?

  143. That point might be better served by comparing Romney’s policies with the policies of Bush and other recent Republicans.

    ——————
Bush was never the governor of a liberal state. He was governor of a conservative natural resource state where the Republican hierarchy is well established.

Bush never ran the Olympics–he ran the Texas Rangers for personal profit. I know his partner–Brad Corbet who has never been seen without a cigar and a ten gallon hat. Big promises, no deliver. Armadillo shit.

If you want to talk about Romeny’s policies in Massachusetts, that is one thing. Compare Romney’s policies in Massachusetts to those of Obama. Like balancing the budget for example–something big media leaves out when they rush to compare Rommneycare and Obamacare.

The point is to say that Romney will do what Bush did is lunacy. We know what Obama has done as president–sold out the American People. There is no evidence extant that Romney would do that. All the credible evidence points to the very likely possibility that he would put us bath on the long road to prospertity and reverse the pernicious policies and preverse incentives of the welfare state.

  144. The worst part of the big media lie is as individuals they see themselves as part of the ruling class, and they have no intention of submitting to the policies to which they subject the rest of us. When asked whether he would subject his own family to the perils of Obama care, asshole stated in the debate that he would want his OWN family to have THE BEST MEDICAL CARE MONEY COULD BY, as opposed to Obama. Big media is the greatest perpetrator of racism and class warfare, if you stop a moment and think about it.

  145. Bill Clinton: No ‘earthly’ idea what Hillary may do next

    Associated Press

Former President Bill Clinton says wife Hillary Clinton is qualified to be president, but he says she’s tired after serving as secretary of state and he has no idea what she may do.

He told CBS television’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday that she wants to take some time off and may write a book.

“We ought to give her a chance to organize her life and decide what she wants to do,” Clinton said.

He also said his wife is among a lot of qualified Democrats who could run and that whatever she wants to do.

“I’m for her, first, last and always,” Clinton said, adding, “I have no earthly idea what she’ll decide to do.”

  146. This article is almost two months old but it resontex just as much today as then about how the media is skewing the polls in a desperate attempt to push the POS over the finish line.

    MUST READ.

Excerpts: (apologies for the length but this is good info.

This is a very well designed, well planned and they hope, brilliantly executed plan to help President Obama win a second term. The mainstream media has no intentions of sitting on the sidelines and merely objectively reporting the news of the election contest while watching Barack Obama become another Jimmy Carter. They will create the perception, via skewed polls, that Obama is winning and then hope the campaign can take advantage of this perception and steal enough votes to actually win the election. Then the perception, and the polls, will validate the stolen election and make it look all so plausible and realistic. If you don’t believe they are doing this, then ask yourself how a president who is doing worse economically than Jimmy Carter was can somehow be reelected?
    ******************************************

The other factor less covered in the analysis and commentary on these issues is how the mainstream media are manipulating the polls to help the president get re-elected. Just recently, the Washington Post/ABC poll was shown to be heavily skewed toward Obama as well as some polls that were released last week. These polls are not skewed simply to make Obama look like he’s winning when he’s not. The reason is far more sinister than that. The polls are skewed with the belief that doing so actually influences voter decisions, and that many voters want to be voting for who they believe will win the election, and therefore if they have little other reason for their choice and want to be sure to be voting for the winning candidate, they will vote for Obama if they believe he’s going to win. This concept is called the “bandwagon effect” that voters will choose the candidate they believe will win.
    ******************************************************

While the media is creating the perception that Obama can and is winning, the campaign and it’s supporters are working with their allies and former members and leaders in groups like ACORN and others to change the actual vote outcomes as much as they can.

Yes they are well-prepared to engage in a variety of voter fraud and vote-scamming to win the closer states. By creating the perception that Obama is winning, the media is giving the campaign a margin in which to be able to engage in voter fraud and make it believable. For instance, instance, if the polls consistently showed Obama leading by 3-5 percent in Florida, even if the campaign’s own internal polling shows it 2-3 points in favor of Florida, they then know they can steal enough voters in Florida to win it. And if they win it by less than percent, they can site polls showing them up by 3-5 percent to suggest the result is quite realistic after all.
    ***************************************

The more that voters are aware that these major mainstream polls are skewed toward Obama, and see Romney competing well in the very few legitimate polls if they know that those polls are legitimate, the less ability the mainstream media has to sway public opinion, if they have much at all, with the skewed polls.

If the media can’t successfully create a illusion that Obama is winning in the polls, it will be that tougher for the campaign to engage in enough vote-scamming to win. And the more we do at the state level to insure the integrity of the voting system from voter fraud, such an enacting and implementing voter identification laws, the less they will be able to engage in vote fraud. More voters should realize this is precisely why Obama’s Justice Department under Attorney General Eric Holder is fighting voter identification laws so strongly. They know they are far less likely to win the if the election if honest and fair.
    **********************************************************************

It all comes down to exposing what they’re doing. Exposing the lies in their ads, exposing the skewed mainstream media polls exposing the strategy behind all of this only renders it ineffective if voters understand what is being attempted. A well-informed voter is the very individual on election day the Obama campaign has the most to worry about.

  147. Latest polls have O up 3.7% with 46/46 Rass and 48O/46R Gallup. It would be nice to
have seen R take the lead after the horrific events in Libya and Egypt . Atlest the 47%comments have mot seemingly put him too far behind. I think it is, however,a huge mistake for Romney to think the debates will help him. He needs to get the issue

    SHE CAN’T WIN,
SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE HILLARY BACK TO THE SHED AND ONLY ONE COMES OUT!

That is amazing and like the 2 million Tea Party march, it will not be reported!!!

Keep the faith, we are winning!!!

  151. This is the real story that is not being told. Obama’s policies will gets us killed!

    “””””””””””””‘
More Americans now commit suicide than are killed in car crashes as miserable economy takes its toll
Deaths from suicide up 15pc with fears more deaths go unaccounted
$56m suicide prevention plan being rolled out after shocking statistics
Harsher penalties for drink driving credited with reducing road deaths

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2207089/56-million-suicide-prevention-programme-launched-study-reveals-Americans-lives-die-car-crashes.html

  152. And I can hear the obama spin right now
    ****

We have reduced traffic deaths with harsher drunk driving penalties. Unfortunately Romney’s calling of 47% Americans as victims and losers, has caused a spike in suicides as people fear that if he were elected he would not help the poor but let them starve to death.

  153. the man is insane, he’s releasing a big number of gitmo detainees, why? most likely so he can say he’s closing gitmo.

Can this man even pretend to be concerned about America and Americans? who is representing these gitmo prisoners? Holder’s firm??

  154. with all going on, what is Chuckie Shcumer concerned about?/ Telemarketers

    from twitter:
Sen. Schumer seeks harsher punishments for telemarketers who violate the federal “do not call list.” bit.ly/Qt1I9h

  155. ““There was this private narrative you see in the intelligence community where they separate what happened in Libya from this YouTube clip and then you have this public narrative that you have from this administration. And I got a hold of this Homeland Security Assessment. It talks about the scope of the demonstrations in the first week after 9-11 and what’s interesting to me is that this intelligence document makes no mention of the YouTube clip. So again, that’s sort of the private narrative but the public narrative from this administration has been that the clip has really prompted the assault not only in Libya but elsewhere in the Middle East.””

  156. Obama’s Pravda and Izvestia, etc., are pushing the stories of Romney’s 47%, election is over, America…. bad for causing riots..blah..blah

    While in the real world:

“Bank of America, the second largest bank-holding company in the US, plans to lay off 16,000 workers by the end of the year, according to reports published Thursday in the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal.”
    ***
“The news follows the announcement by American Airlines earlier this week that it is sending layoff notices to 11,000 employees, 4,400 of whom the company says it actually intends to lay off.”
    *******
The four-week moving average of unemployment benefit applications rose for the fifth time in as many weeks, to 377,750, the Labor Department said Thursday. Readings above 375,000 are taken to indicate that the job market is not improving.
    ****
Manufacturing in the US had its worst three months since the third quarter of 2009, Markit, the financial information services company, said Thursday. The company’s flash US manufacturing purchasing managers index was unchanged at 51.5 this month, indicating anemic growth. Export orders, meanwhile, fell for the fourth month in a row.
    ****
The negative economic figures in the United States are part of a global economic slump. A Purchasing Managers Index figure for China released Thursday by HSBC and Markit indicated that the country’s manufacturing activity contracted for the 11th month in a row.
    ******
Markit said that its purchasing managers’ index for the Euro Area fell to 45.9, down from 46.3. The Japanese government likewise said this week that exports fell by 5.8 percent in August, fueled by the slowdown in the Eurozone and other economies.
    *****
    etc.,etc.

  157. If big media had been operational at the time of Kittyhawk, their headlines would have read it will never get off the ground, AND behind the scenes they would be snipping off the wings to make sure that if it did get off the ground it crashed. Only an idiot would take their word for anything.

  158. KEEP THE FAITH, WE ARE WINNING!!!

    ———————–
Gonzo I am not sure we are winning, but I know for sure the other side is losing. Their shrill sound and “senseless” attacks tell you all you need to know about what is happening. The country is in real trouble, and Obama hasn’t the foggiest idea what to do about it–except make it worse.

  159. Are Emmy’s for movies or tv shows? I haven’t watched it in decades, I think its hilarious that they give each other awards. Then again, I really don’t watch much of the tv shows anymore either. So who knows what bubble these lefty elitist hollywood idiots live in.

  160. If Romney campaign isn’t hammering Obama’s Israel policy in Fl, then is campaign is run by idiots.

“WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama likened Israeli pressure on him to draw a line in the sand over Iran’s nuclear ambitions as noise he tries to ignore, according to remarks aired Sunday.

Obama, interviewed for Sunday’s edition of “60 Minutes” on broadcaster CBS, said he understands and agrees with Netanyahu’s insistence that Iran not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons as this would threaten both countries, the world in general, and kick off an arms race.

But Obama added: “When it comes to our national security decisions — any pressure that I feel is simply to do what’s right for the American people. And I am going to block out — any noise that’s out there.”

This idiot is almost guaranteeing a war in the Middle East. I think that the nuclear threat from Iran is overestimated, especially compared to Pakistan but there is no way that the govt of Israel can allow Iran to say that they are now able to assemble a nuclear “device”. If Israel has intel that says that Iran is close, then they will strike. Bibi isn’t bluffing.

Shocking? Not really, Oturd probably gets his talking points about Israel from the dangerous lunatic from Iran.

  162. Superb analyis of the hypocrisy and three card monty game that the Obama-Media is playing on the American people as they jimmy the polls to show an RCP three point advantage to Obama (hereinafter “asshole”). This comes from Kirsten Powers who is showing more spine than Romney now because she is a liberal. But she, Bartles Bull, Pat Caddell are old school liberals, who love this country, and when the chips were down made better arguments than most of their conservative bretheren. These new fangled squirts may pose as liberals but they are left wing extremists sired by the anti war movement, they hate America. worship the asshole, and they pretend at every turn to be something which they are not.

  165. the high points being Obama inherited a mess, and we must decide in this election whether we want to go back to the old Republican POLICIES that got us into this mess. [….]

    —————–

That point might be better served by comparing Romney’s POLICIES with the policies of Bush and other recent Republicans.

If you want to talk about Romeny’s policies in Massachusetts, that is one thing.

What matters here are national policies rather than state policies. What Romney is proposing to do as POTUS, and what Bush and Bush actually did, and what the national GOP platform says (and what the previous GOP platforms said), and what the GOP House has actually passed, etc etc.

Instead of just denouncing the violence, Obama and fellow idiot Hillary Clinton had to “shoot first” and “aim later” by denouncing the video as well in a vain and stupid attempt to placate Islamist terrorists and other Muslim radicals.

Romney has no national policies yet, since he is not yet president. Therefore, if you want to know what his policies are, you must look at what he has done in the past, and what he promises to do in the future. The advantage that Obama had in 2008–not having a track record as a national figure, which enabled him to promise us the sun the moon and the stars, now inures to Romney. There are alot of people who do not know shit from shinola who waste our time speculating on what he would do as president, when the truth is we cannot be certain. But with Obama there is now a track record which can be used to hang him with–if the Republicans have the courage to do so. They should be less worried about whom they will offend, and more worried that they are not providing the future vision the country is now starving for. Little Obamaloving fuckstick Jerry Seib at WSJ has the head of his campaign on. He came across to me as a castrade. As Scott Walker would say, no fire in the belly. Like I said above, honest liberals are showing more spine than Romney. Obama is on the ropes. He is a failure. If Romney takes him on man a mano, a feather could knock him over–to paraphrase something Napoleon–Obama’s predecessor said about himself.

This seems to be directed at me:

“You don’t seem to understand that media professionals have an obligation to be objective and tell both sides of the story.“

I do understand that. That’s why I posted “irresponsible free speech” concerning two examples of media malpractice above.

“It’s one thing for the average citizen to say whatever they want no matter how extreme their POV. It’s another for a so-called professional journalist to do the same thing.”

Exactly. That’s why I’m calling out the ‘so-called professional journalists’ for their persistent abuse of the journalistic principles and practices they should have learned in school.

“I suggest you research journalistic ethics. I’d provide a link but it’s clear you have no interest in the professional requirements for the job.”

We have the same knowledge and view of journalistic ethics. Why do you say I have no interest in this? Are you looking for a fight? I won’t give you one: we’re on the same page.

  171. Belated H/T to Jake Tapper of ABC News for his recent interview with Laura Ingraham finally decrying (a little) media bias as well. The only other one I can think of who bothers to do this is Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com. Feel free to share more names of honest reporters below. I would certainly like to thank them, too.
    ————————-
Blink and you would miss it. I hope Jake and the rest of the big media snakes drown in their own lies and condescensions.

The idea that they would suddenly find a road to Damascus, i.e. a sudden turning point in a person’s life (similar to the sudden conversion of the Apostle Paul on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus of arrest Christians, is absurd where they are concerned.

We do not want them to convert to journalism–it is too late for that.

They have proven themselves to be a dishonest broker ill suited to the important task of leading a national discussion about our survival. As such, they have forfeited their place at the table.

That they have chosen this path remains a mystery to me. If the risk to their future came from the internet, their smartest strategy was to stress their reliability and objectivity. Instead they–NBC, ABC and CNN did the very opposite.

They emulated the sensationalism and shoddy research of National Enquirer.

In so doing, the have destroyed the good will which is the heart and soul of their business–any business that sell an intangibles.

  172. What Romney is proposing to do as POTUS, and what Bush and Bush actually did, and what the national GOP platform says (and what the previous GOP platforms said), and what the GOP House has actually passed, etc etc.
    —————————-
Wrong. This is the lie that Obama (and dead between the ears Ventura) tries to promote, i.e. Romney is Bush, Bush is Romney. Therefore, the choice is between the hated Bush and the benighted Obama.

This is like the old Jose Ortega y Gasset verbal ploy–that two men are alike because neither one of them is named John.

Do not get sucked into this ploy. Romney is much more of a liberal. He would govern more wisely. And that is a fact.

  173. we must decide in this election whether we want to go back to the old Republican POLICIES that got us into this mess. [….]

  174. Breaking: White House Knowingly Gave False Information to Media on Benghazi Terror Attack (Video)

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/09/breaking-white-house-knowingly-gave-false-information-to-media-on-benghazi-terror-attack-video/

The Obama White House knowingly gave false information on the Benghazi terrorist attack. The Obama Administration repeated to reporters that the consulate attack was the related to an offensive YouTube document but they privately were circulating a very different view on the murderous attack.
Catherine Herridge from FOX News reported:

“There was this private narrative you see in the intelligence community where they separate what happened in Libya from this YouTube clip and then you have this public narrative that you have from this administration. And I got a hold of this Homeland Security Assessment. It talks about the scope of the demonstrations in the first week after 9-11 and what’s interesting to me is that this intelligence document makes no mention of the YouTube clip. So again, that’s sort of the private narrative but the public narrative from this administration has been that the clip has really prompted the assault not only in Libya but elsewhere in the Middle East.”

    video at link.

  175. From elsewhere, an unusual view:
al Qaeda’s allies in Libya had no way of knowing that US Ambassador Chris Stevens was going to be in Benghazi that night. His public schedule had him arriving the next day, for the dedication of a cultural center. He drove out the night before for a small, personal business meeting—and by sheer historical accident, drove into the consulate mere hours, at most, before al Qaeda attacked it.
    [….]
Had they known he was there, I doubt that the Libyan al-Qaeda-allied milita would have attacked the building, abu-Libi or no, 9/11 or no.
[ Because of this militia killing Stevens, the Libyan people ] decided to simply end the militia problem in Benghazi once and for all. They over-ran six different militia bases, including all five Islamist compounds, including running unarmed directly into machine gun fire at the one where the Islamists dug in because that was what it took. According to Reuters, five protesters died, and more than 60 were wounded, but they succeeded: every militia headquarters in Libya’s largest and second-most important city has been seized and enthusiastically, cheerfully turned right over to the Libyan army.

  177. The Obama Administration repeated to reporters that the consulate attack was the related to an offensive YouTube document [….]

    ================

Different people showed up at protests for different reasons. Everyone knew there were several people promoting protests for Sept 11 (a date easy to remember). One about the ‘blind sheik’, one about revenge for killing bin laden, etc etc. Hillary knew this too. She was the first administration official to make a statement.

So — is Hillary being accused of lying here? Is this reporter claiming that none of the demonstators at the protests were influenced by the video (or Arabic reports about it)? That the protests were NOT at all “related to” the video?

Or is it possible that Fox is distorting various people’s statements? (They’ve already put the label ‘apology’ on statements that were not apologies at all.)

  178. If that’s what scipio62 thinks of Hillary, I’m not very impressed with him.
And — he wanted Hillary to say NOTHING about respect for all religions?
    ————

Of course Hillary should show respect for all religions.

Has she denounced the ‘Piss Christ’ exhibit on display in NYC? I know several people who are very upset over it.

If you could post the link where Hillary is condemning this blasphemy I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  181. President Obama has established a substantial lead against Republican challenger Mitt Romney in Minnesota but remains under the critical 50 percent mark and trails Romney among independent voters…

The poll shows Obama drawing 48 percent of likely voters to Romney’s 40 percent. Part of Obama’s advantage comes from a yawning gender gap in his favor. Romney has a slight edge among men, but the president leads among women voters by more than 20 percentage points….

Janet Schneider, a St. Paul Democrat, is one of those worried about jobs and health care. She’s 69 and is looking for a part-time job to make ends meet. But she thinks Obama deserves another shot.

“I think people haven’t given him a chance to get our country back where we want it to be,” she said.

    Sample : 41% Democrat, 31% Independent, and 28% Republican…..

………………….and Obama is only 8% up in Minnesota. In 2011 voter breakdown was Democrats: 45.4 % Republicans: 39.6 % Independents: 15%

  182. “Janet Schneider, a St. Paul Democrat, is one of those worried about jobs and health care. She’s 69 and is looking for a part-time job to make ends meet. But she thinks Obama deserves another shot.”

Another 4 years of OTurd Ms. Janet, and you will stuck on food stamps waiting in long lines for rationed care. Not a theory, but that is the only way this will work with a country this much in debt and decreasing incoming revenues.
The level of raw stupidity in this country. Seems like there are no limits to it.

  183. AP caught outright lying for their Messiah.

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/09/24/AP-Reports-Non-Existent-Crowd-as-Largest-Yet-of-Obama-s-Campaign

“The mainstream media is faking every number is can get away with to save President Barack Obama. Not content with weighting poll samples with absurd Democrat margins, or spinning high unemployment rates, the media is now faking crowd numbers for Obama’s events. The Associated Press is the latest offender, calling a Milwaukee, Wisconsin crowd that did not exist “the largest yet of Obama’s reelection campaign.”
Tom Blumer of NewsBusters caught the AP in the lie, building on an article at Breitbart News that showed that both Politico and the Wall Street Journal had reported turnout for Obama at the Sep. 21 event as 18,000–at an arena that only held 5,000 people.

Though the arena was nearly full–and local media reported that more were outside the arena–there is no evidence whatsoever that the 13,000 people needed to make up the difference actually showed up. No images of that crowd have yet been produced.

The AP’s take: “The crowd of about 18,000 in a steady drizzle was the largest yet of Obama’s reelection campaign.” And yet the AP did not count the audience. Nor did the Wall Street Journal. Nor did Politico.

So where did the official-sounding number come from? The Obama campaign, according to Politico–which was the only one of the three that had the minimal integrity to report the source of the estimate (though not to challenge it).

When the mainstream media calls a crowd is “the largest yet,” but overestimates it by a factor of three or even four, you have a pretty good idea of how far they are willing to go to re-elect their patron saint.”

  186. Hilarious Oh Uh, Elizabeth Warren may never have obtained her law license in Massachussetts, which means she has been illegally working for years.

DOES ELIZABETH WARREN HAVE A LAW LICENSE PROBLEM?

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/09/24/Does-Elizabeth-Warren-Have-a-Law-License-Problem

Elizabeth Warren, who is running for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts and has taught law in Massachusetts for nearly two decades, may never have obtained a license to practice law there, and may be unlicensed to practice anywhere at the moment, new evidence suggests.

The surprise issue to emerge from last Thursday’s Massachusetts Senate debate between incumbent Republican Senator Scott Brown and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren was Brown’s charge that Warren’s legal work for Travelers Insurance put her squarely on the side of the “one percent” she has attacked so vigorously throughout her campaign.

The Boston Globe reported that Warren was paid $212,000 over three years from 2008 to 2010 for “of counsel” legal work for Travelers in a case that the company won when it reached the Supreme Court in 2009. Travelers’ attorneys persuaded the Court that their client did not have to pay a number of asbestos claims.
Now, as William Jacobson reports at Legal Insurrection, the Travelers Insurance issue may have legs.
Jacobson notes that, though Warren operated a law practice from her Cambridge office for more than a decade, she never obtained a license to practice law in Massachusetts.
Earlier in her career, Professor Warren was licensed to practice law in New Jersey, where she lived briefly after graduating from Rutgers School of Law in 1976, and Texas, where she lived from 1978 to 1987 while teaching at the University of Houston and University of Texas. In a 2008 resume, Professor Warren stated that she was a member of the Bar in both New Jersey and Texas. However, she is currently not listed as eligible to practice law in either state.
Breitbart News asked Jennifer Nash, the Communications Director at Simpson, Thacher, and Bartlett, the New York law firm that defended Travelers in its Supreme Court case and hired Professor Warren to act “of counsel” in their brief to the Court, to comment on Professor Jacobson’s story, but we have not received a response yet.
Specifically, we asked Ms. Nash if she could tell us in which state Professor Warren had beenlicensed to practice law when she provided legal services to Simpson, Thacher, and Bartlett and Travelers Insurance.

Jacobson reports that Warren voluntarily withdrew from the practice of law in the State of New Jersey on September 11, 2012. That tactic merely prevents anyone from finding out when her eligibility to practice law in New Jersey ended.

Jacobson concludes his carefully researched article by stating that if Warren was practicing law from her Cambridge office, she violated Massachusetts law:
“[T]here is no authority which exempts from the licensing requirements an attorney domiciled in Massachusetts using a Massachusetts office but who offers legal advice and services only to out-of-state clients and as to non-Massachusetts law.”
Jacobson notes that the Warren campaign has offered no comment on his report.
The Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers grants law licenses to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and enforces penalties against attorneys who violate its rules. Breitbart News left a voice mail message on Monday with Karen O’ Toole, Associate General Counsel at the Board of Bar Overseers for comment on whether the Board intends to investigate Ms. Warren’s conduct, but has not yet received a response.

  187. Interesting caveats. Obama support shaky.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows President Obama attracting support from 47% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns the vote from 46%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

When “leaners” are included, the candidates are tied at 48%. Leaners are those who are initially uncommitted to the two leading candidates but lean towards one of them when asked a follow-up question. Beginning October 1, Rasmussen Reports will be basing its daily updates solely upon the results including leaners.

Currently, 43% of voters nationwide are certain they will vote for Romney, and 41% are just as certain about voting for Obama. Three percent (3%) are likely to vote for Romney but could change their minds. Six percent (6%) say they expect to vote for Obama but could change their minds.

  188. I know doctors cannot practice in a state without that state’s license, they can be jailed and fined massively if they do this, same goes for a businesses, I assume law licenses are the same, considering state laws change from state to state, and the state has to keep track of all the licensed lawyers allowed to practice in their state.

  189. Is Politico trying to salvage what’s left of its shredded reputation by reporting positive Mitt polls? While it takes 4 friggin paragraphs before the meat of the article appears this is clearly an admission that the past months of polls showing the POS way ahead are flawed.

Main takeaway – the Middle Class is in Mitt’s corner.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81584.html

  190. Rasmussen must be using a +2 to +3 Dem sample because no other way this can work……

    Swing state polling…

In the 11 swing states, the president earns 46% of the vote, and Mitt Romney is supported by 44%. Three percent (3%) are not sure, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

In 2008, Obama won these states by a combined margin of 53% to 46%, virtually identical to his national margin.

After modest post-convention bounces for both candidates, the race is back to where it was at the beginning of the month.

When “leaners” are factored in, Obama receives 48% of the vote to Romney’s 47%. Leaners are those who are initially uncommitted to the two leading candidates but lean towards one of them when asked a follow-up question.

Both candidates earn 84% support from Swing State voters in their respective parties. Romney leads by six, 43% to 37%, among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties.

  191. Republican poll analysis: Romney winning with middle-class families

Romney holds a 14-point advantage (55 percent to 41 percent).

  192. Oh i think she is screwed…..

Speaking to Boston’s 96.9 FM radio program “Jim and Margery” on Monday, Democratic Senate challenger Elizabeth Warren admitted that she is not licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
According to reports from listeners, she claimed that she does not maintain a law practice. She also “said that she gave up her New Jersey license because she could not keep up with the Continuing Education requirements,” according to one listener who commented on Breitbart’s Monday story, “Does Elizabeth Warren Have a Law License Problem?”.
Ms. Warren’s statement comes as a surprise to the many clients she’s provided legal services to over the past decade, including the law firm of Simpson, Thacher, and Bartlett, which listed her as “of counsel” in the 2009 brief they submitted to the United States Supreme Court on behalf of their client, Travelers Insurance.

  193. “A dense read, however this is worth understanding. The US Dollar is systematically being destroyed by the US Fed Reserve.”
    *******
As of a year or so ago, $4 trillion at the end of Bush/Cheney and $16 trillion during the first two years of Obama. The only way that we know about that is that Bernie Sanders placed an amendment in a piece of unrelated legislation that forced Bernake to talk. Before that, Bernake refused to say how much the Fed was pumping into the economy, basically told Senators to fuck themselves.

Neither “party” talks about the $20-25 trillion that the Fed and treasury dept have given to the financial industry. The political “talk” is the “stim pkg”., a bipartisan pork fest. The stim pkg. is the street theater distraction, while the big bucks go out the back door, un-noticed.

  194. There goes that narrative….

Rasmussen: Only 23% believe embassy sieges related to YouTube video

    http://hotair.com/archives/2012/09/24/rasmussen-only-23-believe-embassy-sieges-related-to-youtube-video/

When a false narrative collapses, it tends to accelerate on the way down. Just eight days after UN Ambassador Susan Rice went on five Sunday talk shows to insist that the sacking of our consulate in Benghazi and the murder of our ambassador resulted from a protest over a YouTube video that “spun out of control,” only 23% of likely voters buy that argument in Rasmussen’s latest poll. In fact, two-thirds think it was “very likely” a preplanned terrorist attack — as evidence has begun to show:

Most voters think the recent protests at U.S. embassies in the Middle East were pre-planned and not a reaction to an anti-Islamic video on YouTube. They also believe overwhelmingly that terrorists are likely to have been involved in the murder of the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters feel that the recent embassy protests largely have been planned in advance. Just 23% think they were spontaneous reactions to the anti-Islamic video. Nineteen percent (19%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Sixty-seven percent (67%) of military veterans and 54% of those who have not served in uniform agree that the protests mostly have been planned in advance. But there’s a partisan gap as there is on most questions this election year: 79% of Republicans and 54% of voters not affiliated with either major party believe the protests were pre-planned, but Democrats are almost evenly divided.

Eighty-five percent (85%) of all voters believe it is likely that terrorists were involved in the killing of Ambassador Christopher Stevens in Libya, with 65% who think it is Very Likely. Just six percent (6%) say terrorist involvement in the ambassador’s murder is not very or Not At All Likely.

A peek at the internals is instructive. Only one demographic has a majority which backs the Obama administration’s original spin on this story — the political class, with 50% agreeing that the embassy attacks are spontaneous and prompted by the video. Only 37% of Democrats buy that explanation; every other demographic except black voters (37/40), liberals (38/38), and those unsure of their ideology (22/34) and unsure of their military experience (!) (37/44) have majorities or pluralities rejecting the initial White House explanation.

As for all of the statements made by the Obama administration and State Department over the YouTube video, a poll one week ago showed only 15% of voters impressed with that effort — while the White House spin still dominated the media coverage:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 72% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it is more important for the United States to guarantee freedom of speech. Only 15% consider it more important for the United States to make sure that nothing is done to offend other nations and cultures. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided.

Sizable majorities feel this way across partisan, age, religious and other demographic categories.

The majority (58%) of all voters also continues to believe the United States should leave things alone in the Islamic world. Twenty-five percent (25%) disagree and think America should do more to encourage the growth of democracy in Islamic nations. Sixteen percent (16%) are not sure.

Adding it all up, it shows that voters don’t think the Obama administration’s response adds up. And if 85% of likely voters believe that the Benghazi attack was a terrorist attack, the White House will have to answer the questions that flow from that conclusion — which is why they weren’t prepared for it on the anniversary of the original 9/11 attacks.

Romney accuses Obama of trying to “fool” voters

Mitt Romney accused President Obama of trying to “fool” voters into believing things about the GOP candidate that are “inaccurate” today when speaking to the press on his charter flight bound for Denver, Colorado.

Romney cited the auto bailout, tax cuts and abortion as areas where the president has “mischaracterized” his positions.

In defense of his stance on the auto-bailout, Romney said the president’s charge that he called for liquidation of the industry could not be “further from the truth.”

“My plan was to rebuild the auto industry and take it through bankruptcy so that could happen, and by the way he doesn’t mention he took them through bankruptcy,” Romney argued.

He calls the president’s accusation that he wants to lower taxes on the wealthiest “completely inaccuarate,” and he blamed the president of running false negative ads on his position on abortion.

“His ads on abortion he says I’m opposed to abortion even in cases of rape and incest and the life of the mother, that’s wrong. One ad after another of his and statements has been determined to be factually inaccurate,” Romney said.

Romney also claimed the presdient’s negative ads were a factor in his falling behind in polls in all key swing states, but brushed the numbers off. He said he doesn’t “pay a lot of attention” to the polls saying they will “unlikely remain where they are today” in the coming weeks.

Obama in NYC for UN session, but sends Hillary Clinton to do tough meetings — while he tapes ‘The View’

Though Obama will deliver a major speech Tuesday before the annual assembly, he has largely left the one-on-one meetings to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, sparking criticism that he appears more concerned about his re-election effort than talking directly to other world leaders about such issues as Iran’s quest for nuclear capability and the violent, deadly protests in the Middle East and North Africa.

“People around the world listen to the president because he is commander in chief,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., told Fox News on Monday morning.

Clinton will be handling meetings Monday with some of the heavy-hitters who are critical in managing the latest wave of unrest and violence. Clinton is set to meet with Libyan President Mohamed Magariaf, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/09/24/Carney-refuses-answer-Obama-meeting-foreign-leaders

This morning, White House press secretary Jay Carney refused to answer questions about President Obama’s refusal to meet foreign leaders, particularly Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Jay,” asked CBS News’ Mark Knoller, “I’m guessing the reason you’re getting so many questions about the absence of bilats is that last year, the president had 13 bilateral meetings with key foreign leaders during his U.N. visit. And this year you can’t tell us of any. So, what is different about last year and this year?”
Carney refused to answer the question, instead focusing on what Obama would say before the UN. “The fact of the matter is,” he concluded, “the president does not wait for an annual meeting to have consultations and meetings with foreign leaders.”
Actually, he appears to have little consultation at all. He dictates to our allies and kowtows to our enemies. That’s why he doesn’t want a public face-to-face with Netanyahu – he doesn’t want to be called out on his appeasement-oriented foreign policy.

“I was a little medicated at the time and I was telling him, it just wasn’t fair. In his very reassuring voice, he said, ‘Whatever I can do to help, I will be there for you,’ ” she said.

Lindstrom, who had young children when she served with Romney, said the governor told her: “Family comes first.”

“To have a boss say, ‘We’ll have mistakes but they’ll be our mistakes,’ was very empowering,” she said.

Herzfelder said: “I see this man up there that I know has this great strength, this great warmth. His actions really speak to the kind of man he is.”

Gillespie recalled how Romney called her every night, for 10 straight nights, when her father was in a coma after heart surgery.

And she told one more story. The day she moved to Massachusetts, the moving company didn’t get all her furniture inside the house. The governor called and asked her how things were going. She said furniture was still on the driveway.

“I’ll get the boys,” Romney told her.”

    ——————————————–
    Washington Versus America

    By ROSS DOUTHAT

WHEN I moved to Washington, D.C., in 2002, you could sense that the nation’s capital had turned a corner after decades of decline. But the Washington of 10 years ago still looked basically like the city that had been scarred by riots in the 1960s and then emptied by white flight, with a prosperous northwest divided from a blighted south and east, and frontiers of gentrification that weren’t that many blocks from the Capitol itself.

No doubt there were boomtowns in the 19th-century Wild West that changed faster than D.C. did over the ensuing decade. But the changes to Washington have been staggering to watch. High-rises have leaped up, office buildings have risen, neighborhoods have been transformed. Streets once deserted after dusk are now crowded with restaurants and bars. A luxurious waterfront area is taking shape around the stadium that the playoff-bound Nationals call home. Million-dollar listings abound in neighborhoods that 10 years ago were transitional at best.

And that’s just inside the District proper. Cross the bridges into Virginia or shoot north into Maryland, and you’ll find concentrations of wealth greater than in the richest counties around New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco. Last week, new census data revealed that 7 of the 10 richest American counties in 2011 were in the Washington, D.C., region. Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington Counties, all in Northern Virginia, have higher median incomes than every other county in the United States.

Whence comes this wealth? Mostly from Washington’s one major industry: the federal government. Not from direct federal employment, which has risen only modestly of late, but from the growing armies of lobbyists and lawyers, contractors and consultants, who make their living advising and influencing and facilitating the public sector’s work.

This growth is a bipartisan affair. It’s been driven by the contracting-out of government services under both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush (as Andrew Ferguson put it in a wonderful Time magazine essay on the new Washington, “government hasn’t shrunk; it’s just changed clothes”); by the Bush-era security buildup, whose ripples are spreading to this day (witness the new Department of Homeland Security facility intended for still-impoverished Anacostia); and by the bright young college graduates who flooded the city at the dawn of Barack Obama’s presidency and the lobbyists who followed to claim a piece of his attempt at a new New Deal.

If you don’t mind congested roads and insanely competitive child rearing, all this growth is good news for those of us inside the Beltway bubble. But is it good for America? After all, like the ruthless Capital in “The Hunger Games,” the wealth of Washington is ultimately extracted from taxpayers more than it is earned. And over the last five years especially, D.C.’s gains have coincided with the country’s losses.

There aren’t tributes from Michigan and New Mexico fighting to the death in Dupont Circle just yet. But it doesn’t seem like a sign of national health that America’s political capital is suddenly richer than our capitals of manufacturing and technology and finance, or that our leaders are more insulated than ever from the trends buffeting the people they’re supposed to serve.

For Mitt Romney and the Republican Party, what’s happened in Washington these last 10 years should be a natural part of the case against Obamanomics. Our gilded District is a case study in how federal spending often finds its way to the well connected rather than the people it’s supposed to help, how every new program spawns an array of influence peddlers, and how easily corporations and government become corrupt allies rather than opponents.

The state of life inside the Beltway also points to the broader story of our spending problem, which has less to do with how much we spend on the poor than how much we lavish on subsidies for highly inefficient economic sectors, from health care to higher education, and on entitlements for people who aren’t supposed to need a safety net — affluent retirees, well-heeled homeowners, agribusiness owners, and so on.

There’s a case that this president’s policies have made these problems worse, sluicing more borrowed dollars into programs that need structural reform, and privileging favored industries and constituencies over the common good.

But this story is one that Romney and his party seem incapable of telling. Instead, many conservatives prefer to refight the welfare battles of the 1990s, and insist that our spending problem is all about an excess of “dependency” among the non-income-tax-paying 47 percent.

In reality, our government isn’t running trillion-dollar deficits because we’re letting the working class get away with not paying its fair share. We’re running those deficits because too many powerful interest groups have a stake in making sure the party doesn’t stop.

When you look around the richest precincts of today’s Washington, you don’t see a city running on paternalism or dependency. You see a city running on exploitation.

I invite you to follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/DouthatNYT.

Democrats’ Advantage in Voter Registration Slipping in Key States

This news release – announcing that there are now roughly 20,000 more registered Republicans in Iowa than registered Democrats – suggests that Hawkeye state Republicans can crow about a dramatic turnaround, pointing out that back in January 2009, Iowa Democrats enjoyed a 110,000 voter registration advantage.

In terms of how many voters are registered with each major party, Democrats continue to hold advantages in several key swing states, but in all of those states, their advantage is considerably smaller than it was in 2008.

In Florida, as of last month there are 4,627,929 registered Democrats and 4,173,177 registered Republicans, which amounts to a a 454,752-voter advantage for Democrats. (Keep in mind, Florida has 11.5 million registered voters, so there are a lot of unaffiliated and third-party voters.)

In 2008, there were 4,800,890 registered Democrats in Florida and only 4,106,743 registered Republicans, a 694,147-voter advantage. So while the number of voters who registered with the GOP is up from four years ago, Democrats are down roughly 170,000.

In Nevada, there are 447,881 registered Democrats to 400,310 registered Republicans, a split of roughly 47,000. (Keep in mind, the state has 1.4 million registered voters right now.) In 2008, the state split 531,317 registered Democrats to 430,594 registered Republicans, a split of roughly 100,000.

In New Mexico, as of July 31, there are 582,656 registered Democrats to 385,898 registered Republicans, a Democrat advantage of 196,758 voters. In 2008, there were 594,229 registered Democrats and 375,619 registered Republicans, an advantage of 218,610 voters.

In North Carolina, as of Friday, there are 2,778,535 registered Democrats and 2,008,609 registered Republicans, a 769,926-voter advantage. But on Election Day 2008, there were 2,866,669 registered Democrats and 2,002,416 registered Republicans, an 864,253-voter advantage. This is another state where Republicans have already gotten more voters registered with their party than the preceding cycle.

In many states, residents who wish to cast ballots must register to vote within 25 to 28 days before an election.

In Pennsylvania, as of today, there are 4,185,377 registered Democrats to 3,099,371 registered Republicans, a 1,086,006-vote advantage for Obama’s party. But as daunting as that sounds, it’s smaller than in 2008, when there were 4,479,513 registered Democrats to 3,242,046 registered Republicans, a 1,237,467-vote advantage.

Virginia does not register voters by party.

One state where the GOP had and continues to have a small advantage is in Colorado. In that state, as of September 1, there are 837,732 active registered Republicans and 739,778 active registered Democrats, about a 98,000-voter advantage. On Election Day 2008, the GOP had 1,065,150 registered Republicans and 1,056,077 registered Democrats, about a 9,000-voter advantage.

    ……………………………..

Which makes a lot of the dem bias polls worthless without acknowledging these changes.

    Since 2008

    Iowa Dems down 130,000
    Florida Dems down 170,000
    Nevada Dems down 53,000
    New Mexico Dems down 24,000
    NC Dems down 95000
    Pennsylvania Dems down 151,000
Colorado GOP up on dems by 98,000 from their 9,000 advantage in 2008

  215. If the election was “framed” as a referendum on the President, the challenger would be in the lead. A “choice” election/campaign was really the President’s only hope. The challenger would be like a prosecutor reading an indictment of his ill stewardship to the Nation and the incumbent would be forever on his heels, in a constant state of damage-control.

    Here’s candidate Romney today…

“The president will not be able to continue to mischaracterize my pathway,” said Romney, in answering a question about the importance of the upcoming debates. “I’ll continue to describe mine, he will describe his, and people will make a choice. That’s the great thing about democracy.

    ————————————————————————————————————–

Here is the listing for absentee ballots in Iowa…
    ——————————————————————————————————————

Here are the exact numbers broken down by Iowa counties, the 1st District and statewide:

In Dubuque County, 70.5 percent of the ballots requests made through Friday were by registered Democrats; 21.6 percent of the requests were made by voters with no party affiliation, and just 7.8 percent were requested by registered Republicans.

Jackson County leaned the heaviest with 73.8 percent of early ballot requests coming from Democrats; 19.7 percent came from voters with no party affiliation and just 6.5 percent from Republicans.

In Clayton County, 63.8 percent came from registered Democrats, 24 percent from voters with no affiliation and just 11.9 percent from registered Republicans.

In Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, 67.4 percent of the absentee ballot requests came from Democrats, 23.9 percent from no party voters and just 8.6 from Republicans.

Statewide in Iowa, the breakdown is 67.2 percent Democrat, 21.4 percent no party and 11.6 percent Republican.

  218. EX-DEM TALKER FED UP WITH OBAMA, WILL VOTE FOR ROMNEY

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/09/19/ex-dem-talker-backs-romney

I support Mitt Romney for President and Paul Ryan for Vice President. For most of my life, I have been a Democrat, and I very publicly voted (C-Span, live radio, The New York Times) for Obama-Biden in 2008.
As I studied Obama’s performance as President, I could no longer support him.
That was not ideal for the longevity of our eight year old, award-winning drive time radio show “Caplis and Silverman” which ended in June. Our show was somewhat premised as a left vs. right dialogue. So be it. I have another career.
I am a small business owner (Silverman and Olivas, P.C.), and a Denver trial lawyer who is a proud member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. My social policies are libertarian. I am a fourth generation Denver Jew who graduated from Denver George Washington H.S., Colorado College and then CU Law School.
Some of my fellow members of the above groups may be displeased with my endorsement, but so be that, too. This is not a close choice if you are actually paying attention. An objective person should be enormously disappointed in President Obama and his administration. The economy remains bad. The debt bomb keeps growing. Iran is on the verge of having nukes. The power of the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamism is expanding rapidly. Our Justice Department is full of politics and political correctness. Fast and Furious is a disgrace. Attorney General Eric Holder needs to go.
I want leadership in the White House. I want a government with a budget that makes sense. I do not want problems perpetually kicked down the road. I want major legislation to be debated in the public, and not rammed down our throats without even being read by anyone other than the special interests who wrote it.
I want a leader to stand up against sharia law and jihad – and to articulate to the world how antithetical these concepts are to the American way. I thought Obama was ideally situated to speak some necessary truths to the Islamic world. But this President has not, and he will not in a second term.
The world is teetering on the brink as a result. We need some Reagan-like truth telling about repressive systems of government and ideologies that are evil. I liked the way Romney spoke up strong for free speech, and was disgusted when Team Obama conspired to shut him up and tear him down.
How sad and revealing is President Obama’s crazy claim that some obscure, buffoonish anti-Islam video was the spontaneous source of Muslim mayhem and murder. It is part of his world view – these protesters are victims and have legitimate grievances against the USA – and against Israel too.
Where is the outrage when an Ambassador is slaughtered in Libya, and an Al Queda flag is raised over our Embassy in Cairo? Where the hell are the Dems, Hollywood and the media in this fight for free speech?Islamic blasphemy laws are antithetical to America. Please Mr. President and Mrs. Hillary Clinton, no more apologies for free speech. No more lies about Libya. Or Egypt.
The Muslim Brotherhood is biding its time, cashing our checks, and hoping for Obama’s re-election. What is next with this Obama administration? Reparations, retributions, extortions, special laws or taxes so religious feelings don’t get hurt?
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I feel deceived and let down by Obama. His autobiography turns out to contain a lot of fiction. What does it tell you about a man and his campaign when truth is repeatedly distorted around an issue as solemn as cancer?
Obama ran as a positive, bipartisan person. Now, when he is not on “Entertainment Tonight” or “The Late Show with David Letterman,” he is so negative and partisan. Obama claimed he could work with the other side, but he is way too far over to the left.
This President is a super big spender and we cannot afford that. If we re-elect Obama, we get the same big spending, dysfunctional government. This is no time for that.
Romney worked well with Democrats in Massachusetts. Some people put down Romney as a Massachusetts moderate, but that works for me. I expect it will work better for America.
I disagree with Romney and Ryan on many social issues, but there are other, more pressing problems and priorities for America and the free world right now. If Romney wins, abortion rights are not going away. Neither are gay rights. But Israel might go away if certain events unfold.
I urge other people who voted for Obama in 2008 to make a change in 2012.

    US Delegation Remains Seated For Ahmadinejad’s Eliminationist Rhetoric, While Only Israeli Lobby Walks Out;
Obama To Condemn YouTube Video Yet Again In His Own Address
    —Ace

The US delegation had no problem with Ahmadinejad’s vow to “eliminate” an apparently former ally.

Jay Carney announces that Obama will once again denounce the YouTube video.

Here’s a little bonus: The Pakistani Railway Minister vows he’ll pay $100,000 to anyone who kills the YouTube video maker.

The White House’s response to this is… unsettling.

Calling Pakistan Railway Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour’s offer as “inflammatory and inappropriate”, a State Department statement said, “There could be no justification for violence and it is important for responsible leaders to stand up and speak out against violence.”…
The State Department said, “The (US) President and Secretary of State have both said the video at the core of this is offensive, disgusting, and reprehensible – but that is no justification for violence, and it is important for responsible leaders to stand up and speak out against violence.”

Note whom the harshest pejoratives are reserved for.

As Obama is claiming he denounces any insult to any religion, some asked him to denounce “Piss Christ,” which is once again appearing in NYC. He refused.

  223. Fishes, Loaves, And SRO Seating: Media Celebrates The Miracle of Obama’s Rally
    —Ace

The media estimated that 18,000 turned out to see Obama at a “park.”

One problem: The arena (not a park) he spoke at has a capacity of 5,000 people, and was not filled.

I don’t even know what to say anymore. I know they’ll say, as usual, that this is just an error and they can’t get them all right, but they never make an error against Obama’s interest. All errors are made in his favor.

Those are not errors, then. If “errors” are all made to the same side, then the system is, yes, biased to error in favor of that side.

If Obama loses — and I believe he will — the media will lose greatly. A shift against Obama, and the unavoidable “What Went Wrong” which must follow, would include all of those stories and inputs they refused to cover.

It will be an even greater indictment of them than of Obama. Obama will be repudiated, but they will be humiliated.

I think they must know this, so they are throwing it all away, reputation, credibility, all of it, because they know they’ll suffer an even more devastating blow if Obama loses.

Plus, personally, they all drank the Kool Aid. On a personal level they want this more than they’ve ever wanted anything.

Thus, the Big Show. The constant distractions and excitements; the hype and the hucksterism.

Even PT Barnum would be aghast.

  224. Are you getting it yet Mitt, maybe the light has turned on.

Romney Attacking Obama On His Recent Gaffes The Media Doesn’t Report
    —Ace

Only way to get the media to report them is to carry the story yourself.

This is why I laughed so hard when Joe Scarborough, a “real conservative” on MSNBC, claimed the media would have covered the foreign policy disaster of our butchered embassy workers if only Mitt Romney had not issued a press release.

Romney is attacking Obama for “jumping the gun” on claiming the embassy attack was “spontaneous” and “not a planned terrorist attack” and “caused by a YouTube video” — mimicking Obama’s “shoot first, aim later” quip — and also for calling the four murders he could have prevented “bumps in the road.”

Obama also claims Iran’s threat to attack Israel is just “noise.”

What is the White House response?

“His indication that developments in the Middle East represent bumps in the road is a very different view than I have,” the Republican candidate told ABC News. “I can’t imagine saying something like the assassination of ambassadors is a bump in the road.”

Romney gave a similar comment to NBC News. “There are extraordinary events going on in the Middle East and considering those events, either one of them or all of them collectively, as bumps in the road shows a person who has a very different perspective about world affairs [than] the perspective I have,” he said.

Shortly after the interviews, while speaking to a crowd in Pueblo, Colo., Romney declared, “These are not bumps in the road, these are human lives.”

Well, to call Romney’s statements “desperate and offensive,” and claim Obama was talking about something else. Context, you see.

Gee, the great Orator sure needs a lot of clean-up on his remarks.

This doesn’t work. When Obama is talking about the recent problematic phase in the Arab Spring — as Jay Carney insists he was — he is also talking, unavoidably, about the primary problem as it affects Americans, to wit, the murders of four Americans.

In other words, once again, the “context” is just that he’s saying exactly what Romney says he was saying, but they want to claim the “context” transforms it into something completely different.

You Know Who Agrees The Media Will Not Ask Questions About Libya? A CBS Political Director. Romney had better push the story himself, this political director says, because the “press will not make that case for him.”

  225. “Pres Obama will also make it clear in his US speech, says Jay Carney, that the US “will never retreat from the world.” ”

    Riiight Junior, keep saying that.

  226. For you jbstonesfan.

    The Hill

“According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Obama enjoys a 3.7-percentage-point advantage over Romney in the race.

But Newhouse argues the RCP average, which is designed to neutralize outlying polls, is just an average of skewed polls that have a built-in bias for Obama.

“Averaging bad polls that include skewed samples will get you a skewed result,” Newhouse told The Hill.

Nobody disputes that Obama maintains big leads over Romney among blacks, Latinos and younger voters, but Republicans argue the economic downturn that has hit these groups hard is likely to lower their turnout in 2012, especially since 2008 turnout was boosted by the historic implications of electing the nation’s first black president.

As a result, they say, polls projecting similar turnout among these voters are inaccurate.

Dick Morris, the political consultant and pollster (who writes a column for The Hill), wrote last week that pollsters using 2008 turnout models in weighting their samples are likely to be incorrect given the turnout results that year.

Blacks made up 14 percent of the electorate in 2008, when they had traditionally cast about 11 percent of the vote, while the Latino share of the electorate rose by 1.5 percent and college-aged voters doubled their share, Morris wrote.

The problem with the polls, say conservatives, is the assumption most pollsters make on the party identification of the 2012 electorate.

In 2008, Democrats had a 7-percentage-point advantage in party identification over Republicans, which was close to the final margin of victory Obama had over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Newhouse and other Republicans say it’s foolish to expect a similar proportion of Democratic voters in 2012. They argue a smaller proportion of Democrats are likely to come to the polls in November, while a larger proportion of Republicans eager to deny Obama a second term can be expected to vote.

Polls that assume the makeup will be the same as 2008 don’t take this into account, they say.

“You had an extraordinary 2008 turnout among rural evangelicals, but Republicans stayed home in larger numbers,” Newhouse said. “This time you have a more enthused and energetic Republican electorate, and because of that, you’re not going to see the margins go up, you’ll see it narrow. So instead of a 7 [percentage-point advantage for Democrats], I anticipate something smaller than that.”
