Too Late, Romney Gets A Clue

Some do not seen to understand that our previous article was the result of a great deal of watering down. We did not detail in totality the catastrophe which was this past weekend for Obama opponents. Other outlets are not as circumspect as we are and they are beginning to circumscribe the new ugly political landscape for those who want to see Barack Obama thrown out of power – along with his enablers.

A clear eyed analysis of the current situation is necessary. Those who resort to drinking Brand Romney Hopium are not helping anyone with their rosy scenarios and jingoistic bravado that “we surely will win that state, I just know it.” Citing to Zogby polls, which always appear with sensationalistic results and have zero credibility, is a desperate measure not worthy of any one who purports to want to defeat Barack Obama.

Like a doctor hovering over bomb victims a cold eyed diagnosis of all the damage and how to save those that can be saved must be made in the triage unit of the battlefield.

Mitt Romney had an option other than the one he chose and we made the case for that vastly superior option. When confronted with the same decision JFK chose someone with many liabilities whom he detested and who detested him. JFK made that decision because with the clear eye of logic JFK saw he needed to win the electoral votes of Texas.

Mitt Romney chose some unexplained, or rather unfathomable, criteria for his decision. Trading reason for madness Romney abandoned his strong position and put himself into a heavy crossfire on a terrain his opponent knows very well.

For those incapable of strategic thinking, who believe it is peevishness or bitterness, or sadness, which motivate those who view this past weekend as a catastrophe – you must not have read what we have written for years. We suggest a refresher course of study on how to win elections, how to chart a winning strategy, and how to put together the winning coalition to get you to victory.

For some, no amount of logic will persuade. The Romney brand of Hopium will be guzzled and poured into water coolers to drown the doubts of the unwitting.

For some the argument is that you go to war with the army you have, not the army you want. That banality is not worthy to be called a thought.

That banality is certainly not a winning strategy. You have to have an army that is up to the fight. You have to recruit an army that can fight the fight you want to fight. You most certainly have to look at your army and see what that army is capable of. Know your army.

If your army consists of arthritic old men do not devise a strategy which requires a great deal of marching or exertion. The most you can do is deploy an army of ancients behind solid redoubts on high ground and hope their eyes do not fail as they shoot down at the enemy.

If your army consists of callow youth without experience in battle do not issue complicated orders with maneuvers which will fall apart as the first blood is spilled and too young to shave troops panic as they are spattered with the brains and guts of their once living friends.

But you first need a general to lead that fight that knows what he is doing. You need a general and a strategy that makes sense not one that is unfathomable and senseless.

When the order of “CHARGE!” was issued to the Light Brigade it was a death knell. The 600 brigadiers headed straight into the opposing guns and into the valley of death. No doubt they were brave those that charged directly into the guns but the entire action was futile from the very beginning.

Perhaps that is too long ago and too obscure a reference. Consider General Pickett and his ill advised exercise in futility:

“Pickett’s Charge was an infantry assault ordered by Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee against Maj. Gen. George G. Meade’s Union positions on Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863, the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War. Its futility was predicted by the charge’s commander, Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, and it was arguably an avoidable mistake from which the Southern war effort never fully recovered psychologically. The farthest point reached by the attack has been referred to as the high-water mark of the Confederacy.”

This past weekend Mitt Romney yelled “Charge!” and ordered his army to march into the crossfire gun-blasts. Instead of a referendum on Obama it is now- by Romney’s own decision which had long been advocated by Barack Obama! – a choice. This “choice” battle will also be fought on terrain favorable to Barack Obama and one which his army of ghouls knows very well and on which Republicans have never won.

Mitt Romney abandoned the high ground where his heavy cannon were fully loaded and ready to mow down Obama’s Hopium bloated zombies as they charged across a hostile battlefield offering no shelter and littered with obstacles to a rallying mob. Mitt Romney traded an impregnable position for a field facing a highly placed Cemetery Ridge.

The Light Brigade and General Pickett had boldness as the herald to defeat, not victory. In any campaign, military or political – “You have to have an army that is up to the fight. You have to recruit an army that can fight the fight you want to fight. You most certainly have to look at your army and see what that army is capable of. Know your army.”

There is also something else you need: You need a general to lead that army that understands the enemy and what the enemy is capable of.

We understand what Barack Obama and his henchmen are capable of. We are under no delusions and we knew instantly this past weekend that the smiles in Chicago mob headquarters for once are not phony but real.

Most Republicans/conservatives along with many of those independents and Hillary Democrats that want to defeat Barack Obama say “yes, yes, we understand that and we are ready – don’t worry you’re little pink heads.” But these fools only intellectually understand what is about to be unleashed against Mitt Romney.

For the longest time we have been advocating an attack directly on Barack Obama himself, not just his campaign or issue positions. Recently we wrote:

“Mitt Romney must not whine. Mitt Romney has to strike at Obama’s heart. Mitt Romney must expose Obama for the ugly person he is.

Any American who still thinks Barack Obama is a “nice person” must be shown what a creep Barack Obama is. This is no time for Mitt Romney to go soft.”

Make it explicit. Stop with the clever ads that the politically involved understand. Tell the truth clearly and without fear. Mitt Romney should run an ad that goes something like this:

“Do you like Barack Obama? Do you think Barack Obama is nice? Does a nice man call his political opponent a felon? Does a nice man call his political opponent a murderer? Barack Obama is not nice. Barack Obama is nasty.”

Say it clearly. Stop the namby-pamby frat boy leg rubbing cleverness.

Barack Obama is in charge of his campaign. Mitt Romney has been called a felon and murderer and there are mumbles about how the Obama campaign is somehow not playing “cricket”.

“The rules, ol’ boy, the rules. Shocking eh wot?” We can almost hear the Romney clan planning revenge on Barack Obama by inviting him to a formal dinner and making sure his finger bowl is only partially filled leaving him with slightly greasy fingers.” “That will show the blighter, eh Muffy?” “We’ll show this fellow how tough we play in Boston, on the Hill.” “Oh yes dear, he won’t know what to do what to do with his fingers. He’ll be forced to wipe them on the linen and expose himself to ridicule. Haw, Haw.” “Well played.”

Romney SuperPacs were tough on Newt and Republicans in the primaries. It’s taken being called a felon, a murderer and now implications that he is not just a plain ol’ racist, like Bill Clinton, but more akin to a slave owner for Mitt Romney to get a clue. Romney rips Obama over Biden’s “chains” remark: These smears are disgracing the office of the presidency

Mitt Romney used a tough new campaign speech to personally blast the Obama campaign on Tuesday, saying comments earlier in the day from Vice President Biden are “what an angry and desperate Presidency looks like.”

Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago,” Romney said while campaigning in Ohio…

“His campaign and his surrogates have made wild and reckless accusations that disgrace the office of the Presidency. Another outrageous charge came a few hours ago in Virginia. And the White House sinks a little bit lower,” Romney said.

“This is an election in which we should be talking about the path ahead, but you don’t hear any answers coming from President Obama’s re-election campaign. That’s because he’s intellectually exhausted, out of ideas, and out of energy. And so his campaign has resorted to diversions and distractions, to demagoguing and defaming others. This is an old game in politics; what’s different this year is that the president is taking things to a new low.” [snip]

One: Like I said, he’s got to cut into O’s favorables. [snip]

Two: He’s trying to inoculate himself from even nastier — and more damaging — attacks down the line. Remember, according to Major Garrett, Obama’s Super PAC has all sorts of sludge in the pipeline waiting to flow.

Romney’s words are a bit stronger but still insufficient. An ad with a big buy as we suggested above is needed. The attacks must be personal and directed right at the perceived Obama strength of “likeability”. Mitt Romney is on a mud field facing the guns by getting into a detail battle on Medicare because Barack Obama had a strategy based on MediScare ready to unleash on whomever won the Republican primary.

Mitt Romney is on much stronger ground when he describes Barack Obama as the thug he is. Video: Romney tells CBS that Obama’s running to “hang onto power”:

National Journal reported on the interview:

After lashing out on Tuesday at President Obama’s as “angry and desperate,” Mitt Romney again used tough language to describe his opponent in a television interview on Wednesday.

“If you look at the ads that have been described and the divisiveness based upon income, age, ethnicity and so forth, it’s designed to bring a sense of enmity and jealous and anger,” Romney said on CBS’s This Morning on Wednesday. “The president seems to be running to hang on to power. I think he’ll do anything in his power to try and get re-elected.”

It’s only taken an insinuation of being a chain shackling slave owner, a felon and a murderer to wake up the slumbering Romney to the threat he faces from the Chicago thugs.

What the Mitt Romney campaign needs is not applauding seals elegantly coursing through pools of Romney Kool-aid flavored Hopium. The Romney campaign needs a clear eyed assessment of the battlefield as it now is and a realistic strategy on how to shape it.

Friends of the Romney campaign, opponents of Barack Obama, do not help Mitt Romney when they put glitter, originally destined for debutant shoulders, on Mitt Romney’s self-inflicted wounds. What is needed now is a clear-eyed strategy for victory not HOPE for CHANGE.
