More Gassy Obama Lies And Treacheries

“I do think your record and what you say matters. And when it comes to a lot of the issues that are important in this race it is sometimes difficult to understand what Senator Obama has said because as soon as he’s confronted on it he says that’s not what he meant.”

That’s only half the problem. Barack Obama lies but he does more than lie – his lies are stacked on top of other lies. “As soon as he’s confronted on it he says that’s not what he meant” but the moment you explore that lie you find other lies gush out like a Texas oil strike.

This past week Obama focused his lies on oil, energy and especially gas prices. Obama at a nationally televised press conference smirked that no one can possibly believe that he is for higher gas prices because it is inconceivable that he would want higher gas prices as he runs for reelection. But then those damned video tapes condemn Obama as a liar who .

Yup, “Obama in 2008: Americans need to suck it up and pay more for energy.” It’s not the first time Barack Obama has lied about energy prices. In 2007/2008 we almost could not keep up with the many Obama lies on this topic. Big Media did its best to keep the Obama lies on the down low.

Let’s stroll memory lane to track Obama lies on energy. From “More Flops, More Flips, More Flims, More Flams”:

“Obama lied in February 2007 about his vote for Dick Cheney’s energy bill when he visited Selma for the first time ever.

Although Sen. Obama voted for the legislation, he has spoken as if he opposed it on the campaign trail, criticizing it repeatedly. At a presidential debate he said “You can look at how Dick Cheney did his energy policy…he met with oil and gas companies forty times, and that’s how they put together our energy policy.” He’s attributed the failure of our current energy policy to Congress’s “failure to stand up to the lobbyists.”

Sen. Obama’s rhetoric blasting the policies of Vice President Dick Cheney and energy lobbyists can be stirring. But Obama’s actions haven’t matched his words.

Obama’s latest flim-flam – still pretending he opposed the Cheney energy bill:

Democratic candidate Barack Obama criticized Republican John McCain on Tuesday for taking a page out of “the Cheney playbook” on energy, overlooking his own support of oil-friendly policies that the unpopular vice president helped to craft. [snip]

“President Bush, he had an energy policy. He turned to Dick Cheney and he said, ‘Cheney, go take care of this,'” Obama said. “Cheney met with renewable-energy folks once and oil and gas (executives) 40 times. McCain has taken a page out of the Cheney playbook.” [snip]

However, Obama himself voted for a 2005 energy bill backed by Bush that included billions in subsidies for oil and natural gas production, a measure Cheney played a major role in developing. McCain opposed the bill on grounds it included billions in unnecessary tax breaks for the oil industry.

Barack Obama lied about his intentions and votes when he ran against Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama lied about his intentions and votes when he ran against John McCain. Barack Obama continues to lie. Barack Obama will lie again.

Right now Barack Obama is preparing to loot American strategic oil reserves to help his reelection chances. Before he does this flip flop flim flam let’s get the history from 2008 before Obama flip flops and flim flams in 2012:

Transcript:

“As Republicans point out, Obama was against tapping the preserve just earlier this month. “I do not believe that we should use the strategic oil reserves at this point,” Obama said July 7. “I have said and, in fact, supported a congressional resolution that said that we should suspend putting more oil into the strategic oil reserve, but the strategic oil reserve, I think, has to be reserved for a genuine emergency. You have a situation, let’s say, where there was a major oil facility in Saudi Arabia that was destroyed as a consequence of terrorist acts, and you suddenly had huge amounts of oil taken out of the world market, we wouldn’t just be seeing $4-a-gallon oil. We could see a situation where entire sectors of the country had no oil to function at all. And that’s what the strategic oil reserve has to be for.

In August of 2008 Kevin Drum noted that Obama can’t be trusted on energy issues.

Every single story I’ve read about Obama’s energy speech today has the exact same lead: it’s yet another switcheroo from the Democratic candidate. Flip flop, flip flop.

And we can’t blame this one on the media, folks: Obama really is flopping around on energy policy, and he’s doing it in the most craven possible way, switching from correct but politically risky stands to dumb panders.

Obama cannot be trusted. As Hillary Clinton honestly stated as soon as he’s confronted on it he says that’s not what he meant. Obama lies about his lies and lies again when told that he lied:

Obama threatened to bankrupt coal powered plants. More importantly, Obama predicted that in an Obama presidency energy prices would “skyrocket”.

The issue, once again, is deception and trust. What are Barack Obama’s real intentions? [snip]

In remarks delivered earlier this year in San Francisco, Obama stated he plans to bankrupt the coal industry.

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.

It’s just that it will bankrupt them.“

There was in 2008 the time when Joe Biden declared he and Obama were against clean coal plants. When caught Biden yelled “liar” to smear those telling the truth.

Whenever confronted with the truth Barack Obama says it is not what he meant or else has his henchmen falsely charge “racism” or yell “liar”. It’s what Obama has done before. Past is prologue:

“No doubt, Obama will soon issue a denial that he ever said “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

The costs will be borne by the consumer – so said Barack Obama. Now in 2012 Barack Obama lies about what he said. When confronted Obama lies again and declares those telling the truth are “liars”.

Who’s the liar? Who can’t be trusted? Who has lied before, continues to lie, and will lie again?

  1. Warning: Anyone with heart problems stop reading now. That is because Politico has an article up which is worth reading. The article is about Obama lies on healthcare (which you read years ago here, but for Politico it is new news):

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/74119.html

“For Obama, it’s an inconvenient truth at a really inconvenient time — coming less than two weeks before the Supreme Court begins oral arguments on the law and just as the administration touts the law’s early benefits on its second anniversary.

And it’s not the only hard truth Obama and the law’s supporters are facing. No matter what they said about rising health care costs, those costs aren’t actually going to go down under health care reform. The talk about the law paying for itself is just educated guesswork. And people aren’t actually liking the law more as they learn more about it — and some polls show they are just getting more confused.

But it’s Obama’s signature promise — “If you like it, you can keep it” — that’s most likely to get thrown back in his face. Here are the four hard truths of health care reform as the law approaches its March 23 anniversary:

    1) Some people won’t get to keep the coverage they like. [snip]

    2) Costs aren’t going to go down. [snip]

    3) It’s just a guess that the law can pay for itself. [snip]

    4) “The more they know, the more they’ll like it” isn’t happening. [snip]

  2. “the moment you explore that lie you find other lies gush out like a Texas oil strike.”
LOL! Perfect. It seems at times Obama’s corrupt strategy is to lie so prolifically that there aren’t enough hours in the day to document them all.

What’s going on at Politico, are the racists taking over? Another (creepy) article today, Obama’s Campaign is Watching You:
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/74095.html
“And according to a campaign official and former Obama staffer, the campaign’s Chicago-based headquarters has built a centralized digital database of information about millions of potential Obama voters.

It all means Obama is finding it easier than ever to merge offline data, such as voter files and information purchased from data brokers, with online information to target people with messages that may appeal to their personal tastes. Privacy advocates say it’s just the sort of digital snooping that his new privacy project is supposed to discourage.”

“For some privacy advocates, the data disconnect between Obama’s administration and campaign is tantamount to hypocrisy.”

  3. People who lie habitually, really don’t care about the truth. In fact, they always say what people want to hear, and when confronted with what they said before, they say you have miss understood them. If you don’t accept their new lie, you are a racists, or just plain prejudice against them. Liars don’t think they have to tell the truth, as they don’t remember the truth.

You see they have been told they are special ever step of the way, and they don’t have to tell the truth.

  4. Great post admin.

Obama is a liar, and he just says whatever seems convenient to win favor by the people he is standing around at that particular moment in time.

He doesn’t even try to remember what he said yesterday, every day is a new beginning for him to try and win over fans, and scoop up admiration, goodies, free stuff and Slick Rick into his next scam.

We could count on a couple of fingers how many promises Barry has kept…I actually can’t think of any…so I am being generous here.

  5. Is anyone else reading “Admit the Horse” by P.G. Abeles? It is a roman a clef about the 2008 election. In other words, the names and some details have been changed, but you’ll recognize everything from the caucus cheating to the birther to the Trinity UCC murders. (All this and I’m only about 1/3 of the way through the book, since I just got it this afternoon!)

This is uncanny! How come we never heard about it? (well, duh) But do you know anything about the author?

    From Amazon’s description:
Set against the background of epic dislocation in the financial markets and a supine media, “Admit The Horse” is a gripping political thriller about a dark-horse political candidate whose meteoric rise to the pinnacle of power is engineered amidst illegal campaign contributions, voter fraud and murder. The story’s unlikely players–an honorable Chicago detective, a retired DEA investigator, an idealistic venture capitalist, an African-American congresswoman and a suburban mom volunteering for his opponent–all begin to wonder: was his opportunistic rise to the Presidency all just coincidence…or conspiracy?

I have never heard of it. How did you become familiar with it? It sounds interesting.

  10. Great info, Admin.

With all the hidden advantages Obummer had in 2008 (every debate moderator lobbing him softballs, no one questioning his non-existent paper trail, etc.), it took herculean efforts to drag the turd over the finish line, with the Rules and Bylaws Committee thrusting the knife in Hillary’s back in late May.

Act II, against McCain, also showed that even with a massive headstart, he lost the lead, only to have it land back in his lap due to the media’s slanting of the Lehman collapse.

So with whatever lackluster field the Repubs are pulling together, the fucker can’t even keep at 50% approval. The slightest bad news reminds voters that, “Gee, he kinda doesn’t know what he’s doing; and when he tries things, it makes them worse”.

Despite media efforts to spin the “green shoots” and “prosperity is around the corner”, people KNOW that the middle class has been dealt a permanent blow, and the poor are even in worse shape. Six figure elite types can afford another four years…and even they have become disenchanted with the Boy Wonder.

    He is fucking toast.

    ABO.

  11. After watching the videos from the 2008 Primary, I was very surprised to see how much older Obama looks almost four years later…gray hair, wrinkles, dark circles under eyes, saggier skin and just in general a lot older.

Wonder if it’s all the lies upon lies that makes one age triple time?
If that’s case Obama will look like he is 100 years old by November.

  12. Southern Born 10:54 pm

It is all theatrics; he portends to be wiser and older, Dustin Hoffman must be running the show.

A little funny from my friends:

An Arab enters a taxi —

Once he is seated he says to the cab driver: “Turn off the radio. I must not hear music as decreed by my religion as in the time of the prophet there was no music, especially Western music, which is the music of the infidel’s, and there was certainly no radio.”

The cab driver politely switches off the radio, stops the cab, gets out and opens the back door.

The Arab asks him: “What are you doing?”

The cabby answers: “In the time of the prophet there were no taxis, so get your ass out of my cab and find yourself a camel to ride.”

Biden: GOP ‘dead wrong’ on economy

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS
NEW: A Romney spokesperson says Obama was not ready to be president
Vice President Biden criticizes Republican presidential contenders by name
“They will bankrupt the middle class,” Biden tells autoworkers in Ohio
The Ohio stop is the first of four campaign speeches planned by the vice president

(CNN) — Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday assumed the role of top campaign surrogate for President Barack Obama, harshly criticizing the economic policies of Republican presidential contenders Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as a threat to the American middle class.

“If you give any one of these guys the keys to the White House, they will bankrupt the middle class once again,” Biden told autoworkers in Ohio, a key battleground state for Obama’s re-election bid in November.

The speech at a United Auto Workers hall in Toledo was the first of four planned in coming weeks by the vice president. It came hours before the Thursday night release of a 17-minute documentary that frames the narrative of the Obama presidency.

With the Republican race remaining competitive among Romney, Santorum, Gingrich and trailing candidate Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, Biden kicked off the most visible effort to date of the Obama campaign to win a second term in the November general election.

The vice president went after the Republican candidates by name, something the president has not done so far, and focused on the revival of the auto industry during the Obama administration to characterize GOP policies as misguided and out of touch.

“These guys have a fundamentally different economic philosophy,” Biden said of Romney, Gingrich and Santorum. “We’re about promoting the private sector. They’re about protecting the privileged sector.”

In particular, Biden cited the billions of dollars in government financial support for U.S. automakers during the recession as an example of the differing approaches between the parties.

The program, which began in the Bush administration and was extended under Obama, provided money that kept General Motors and Chrysler operating and led to restructuring through bankruptcy. Both automakers now report growth, and GM has recorded record profits.

Many Republicans strongly opposed what they called government bailouts of the private sector, and Biden made sure the autoworkers knew that.

He quoted the headline of a November 2008 op-ed in the New York Times by Romney, whom the White House considers the likely Republican nominee, that said “Let Detroit go bankrupt.” Biden also told the crowd, which booed the Romney references, that the former Massachusetts governor once said the Obama administration’s handling of the issue would make General Motors “the living dead.”

In addition, Biden quoted Gingrich as having called the auto industry funding “a mistake.”

According to Biden, Obama knew at the time the move would be heavily criticized, but the president “didn’t flinch.”

“This is a man with steel in his spine,” Biden said of Obama’s decision to provide more government money. “He made the tough call and the verdict is in. President Obama was right, and they were dead wrong.”

Of Romney’s prediction of living dead, Biden said: “We have now living proof: a million jobs saved, 200,000 jobs created.”

Romney’s op-ed called for a managed bankruptcy of the automakers rather than giving them government money.

“Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself,” Romney wrote in the op-ed. “With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.”

Today, Romney argues that what eventually happened followed what he prescribed back then. Romney also has said the private sector would have stepped in to help the auto industry without the need for government financing, but Biden rejected that contention Thursday.

“Wrong,” Biden declared, adding that no one — not even Romney’s former company, Bain Capital — was loaning money at the height of the recession.

A spokeswoman of the Romney campaign noted that back in 2007, then-Sen. Biden said he didn’t believe Obama was ready to be president.

“More than four years later, it’s clear that he (Biden) was right,” said the statement by Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul, which attacked Obama’s record but included no direct response to Biden’s criticism of Romney’s economic policies.

A senior Democratic official told CNN on Thursday that Biden will continue his campaign efforts in Florida, talking at senior centers about Medicare and proposed reforms by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin. Along with Ohio, other states targeted by Biden will be Iowa, New Hampshire and parts of Virginia, with the focus on tax reform, boosting manufacturing, the auto industry and Medicare, the official said.

According to two Democratic officials, the campaign rollout with Biden’s speech and the video release was planned for now because Democrats thought a Republican presidential nominee would have been determined.

The officials said the campaign was unable to wait until May or June to begin responding to Republican attacks.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus, responded to the Obama campaign push by saying the president’s policies have failed and change is needed.

“A campaign speech and Hollywood movie from the Obama campaign won’t change the fact that family budgets in Ohio and across the country are being stretched by everything from food prices to soaring prices at the pump,” Priebus said in a statement sent by e-mail. “Voters have a clear choice this November: continue down Barack Obama’s path of broken promises and failed policies, or change direction with new leadership committed to reversing the Obama agenda that has Americans worse off than they were four years ago.”

  14. Florida Democratic Club Flying Obama American Flag Receives Death Threats

[photo]Flag depicting President Barack Obama above Lake County Democratic Party headquarters in Tavares, FL. (Courtesy Donald L. Van Beck)
    By: JOSH HASKELL

    March 16, 2012

It’s been a difficult week for members of the Lake County Democratic Club in Florida after they received thousands of angry emails, phone calls, and even death threats for displaying an American Flag with President Obama’s face on it.

The image of the president takes the place of the 50 stars on the flag and had been flying at the headquarters for the past two months. But, that all changed on Tuesday when a group of about 20 veterans gathered outside the headquarters and demanded the flag be taken down.

“It was extremely disturbing,” says Korean War Veteran Don Van Beck. “You have to be a veteran to understand how we feel about the flag. You go to war defending that flag and now they’re defacing it.”

The veterans say that altering the flag is in violation of the Federal Flag Code, which states “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

Democratic Club Chair Nancy Hurlbert answered the door at Democratic Headquarters and told the veterans they could not take the flag down because this was private property. After a heated discussion, Hurlbert agreed to research the flag code, insisting the club had no intention of offending anyone and that the flag was a gift from one of its members. Hurlbert came back outside 10 minutes later and removed the flag from the pole, leaving an American Flag with the 50 stars which had already been on the pole. Club Secretary Janet Manchon says the anger didn’t end there.

“It was just vitriol. I’ve been called every name in the book,” says Manchon. “The flag means a lot to us. My father was a veteran. My husband’s a veteran. We feel badly because we support our veterans.”

Manchon says her phone’s been ringing off the hook and her e-mail inbox has been full since Tuesday. But, that’s nothing compared to what Hurlbert has endured, instructed not to speak about the incident by the Florida Democratic Party. Manchon says that Hurlbert has received two death threats.

“She’s scared. She’s had to turn her phone off,” says Manchon. “I just don’t understand why the veterans couldn’t have just called headquarters. They bombarded our chairperson with cameras and local press, catching her off guard.”

Van Beck says he doesn’t hold any animosity towards the Democratic Club and is sorry that Hurlbert has received the death threats. But, he insists they called headquarters multiple times on Monday and Tuesday. Since nobody answered the phone, the veterans drove to Tavares, Fla., and Hurlbert answered the door. Democratic Club members like Janet Manchon believe this incident isn’t about the flag, but rather a way to be critical of President Obama. Van Beck says that’s just not true.

“I would have acted the same at another location,” said the Veteran. “This is not a political thing. This is about the flag. If we saw Mitt Romney on a flag at the Republican Headquarters, we would have done the same thing.”

You can currently buy the flag online including EBay, where it sold for $128.50 Thursday evening. The veterans say they’re sending letters to all the VFW Posts in the U.S., alerting them of the flag. Van Beck says the flag is manufactured in China.

The Florida Democratic Party tells ABC News that they don’t condone the actions of the Lake County Club and are in agreement that they flag should have been taken down. The state party did, however, send an e-mail to Hurlbert, which she read at the club’s meeting Wednesday night.

The letter encouraged members to not let this incident “distract us from our work.” Manchon says they plan to do just that, adding the phone calls and emails have slowed down as the tense week comes to an end.

“We want to try and put this whole thing aside so we can get on with what do — helping re-elect U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and President Barack Obama.”

  16. Thank you admin for continually stoking the embers, although I know that you are given a steady stream of information to work with directly from the head jacka$$e$ mouth and actions. I so despise this despot in training. As others have noted recently, even though Sir Douch€ seems totally incompetent, I believe he is actually playing Americans while he does his dirty work. He has gotten quite far on his mediocre intellect, but he certainly knows how to smile while he sets out to knowingly, and with determination, wreck the country. The gulf oil spill, and his lack of response still resonate with me, and should have Americans wanting his exit from office. While occupying his throne, he has NEVER divurged from his agenda of weakening our country’s foundation. Despicable louse.

  17. Re ADMIT THE HORSE, I just got this email from the author:
    Hi guys–
Sorry not to give you more of a ‘heads up’–but I’ve been trying to patch together my old computer sufficiently to get some of your email addresses.
Anyway, as many of you know, “Admit The Horse” is a novel, but based on (mostly) real events. I did a lot of research to pull all the pieces together.

I know the author, Paulie Abeles, a very legitimate PUMA. I used to do a lot with her by email: iirc she would find local newspapers with stories about the Hillary/Obama campaign and email the links to me and others and I would post them here. I think she also sent me some leads for my PumaResponders.blogspot.

  18. I’m going to look that book up. Sounds like a fictional narrative based on real events. Ani from No Quarter is also publishing a book, due out next month, but it sounds more straight forward recounting of events. I’ll have to tell Ani about this other one. She’s a famous actress in Hollywood – she may have contacts to get them together on a talk show circuit talking about their books! lol

  20. Wow, other than the obligatory ugliness (the lastest form of pot calling the kettle black = mean girls) which was very early this morning, these last two threads have been peaceful, respectful, and intellectual. What an improvement! It’s so wonderful. If this keeps up, people will come back! OMG, it’s just so refreshing. It’s like Jaws, but now it’s safe to go back in the water! There will certainly be setbacks, the death throes of the drunken dinosaur, but here’s hoping we just post more and more positive stuff, and the bully team will no longer be able to take control of the comments section, people will be able to share their own thoughts without being denigrated, it will be a healthy place again as it used to be.

Obama’s Pastor calls on Muslims to retake Jerusalem.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who was US President Barack Obama’s pastor for 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s south side, has endorsed the “March on Jerusalem.”

The Doha conference was a two-day long effort to demonize Israel and deny Judaism’s more than three thousand year connection to Jerusalem.

Both events are designed to reverse what their organizers call the Judaization of “occupied Jerusalem.”

The White House has refused to comment on Wright’s decision to endorse the March on Jerusalem, or the presence of state department consultants at the so-called Doha Conference.

The National Conference of Jewish Affairs said “That the President’s long-time pastor and “spiritual leader” is now endorsing the Global March to Jerusalem, without a reaction from the White House, underscores President Obama’s failure to recognize the unalterable significance of Judaism’s multi-millennial connection to Jerusalem, which is the capital of the Jewish State, Israel.”

Wright, of “God Damn America” notoriety, has also asserted on ABC news that the U.S. brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own “terrorism.”

He has also made openly anti-Semitic statements saying Jews have robbed him of his influence over Obama, “Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he’ll talk to me in five years when he’s a lame duck, or in eight years when he’s out of office.”

“[T]he Jewish vote, the A-I-P-A-C vote, that’s controlling him,” Wright also has also claimed.

The Global March to Jerusalem, slated for March 30th, follows on the heels of the anti-Israel, anti-

Semitic Doha Conference on the Defense of ‘Occupied’ Jerusalem.”

Obama – who adamantly denied hearing any offensive statements from Wright during his 20 years in his flock despite being shown numerous video clips of them – has sought to defend Wright in the past.

“It’s as if we took the five dumbest things that I’ve ever said or you’ve ever said in our lives and compressed them and put them out there — I think that people’s reaction would, understandably, be upset.”

The New York Times reported today that a fund operated by Bain Capital, the Boston-based private equity firm founded by Mitt Romney, has invested in a Chinese company that provides equipment for government efforts to monitor Chinese citizens at religious institutions, university campuses, and other venues. (Eww- he’s such a gentleman with a beautiful wife)Ick!

Romney, it turns out, isn’t the only prominent American politician connected with that controversial investment: Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who now chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, reported more money than Romney invested in the same fund on his most recent Senate disclosure form.

The funds, Kerry staffers say, were actually invested by his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, widow of former Pennsylvania Sen. John Heinz III, sole heir to the Heinz ketchup and food fortune.

“This isn’t Senator Kerry’s investment,” said Kerry spokeswoman Jodi Seth. “He is not and never has been a beneficiary of his wife’s trusts, which were established before they knew each other, and are controlled by independent trustees.”

Romney founded Bain Capital in the mid-1980s and has a relatively modest investment – up to $250,000 — in the Bain Capital Asia Fund, which recently purchased Uniview Technologies, a Chinese firm that makes infrared cameras and software products that allow police to share images.

The Romney connection was reported prominently Friday by the New York Times in a story noting that a blind trust in the name of Ann Romney recently reported holding a $100,000 to $250,000 stake in the Bain Asia fund.

The story did not mention that Kerry reported a somewhat larger holding in the same fund. Disclosure reports filed with the Senate last year show that Teresa Heinz Kerry held a $500,000 to $1,000,000 stake in the same fund in 2010.

The Obama re-election campaign jumped on the report, saying it showed Romney’s hypocrisy and illustrated why the candidate hadn’t been forthcoming about the details of his finances.

“Mitt Romney has criticized President Obama on the campaign trail for putting economic interests ahead of human rights in China. But this new revelation about Romney’s financial interest in a Chinese surveillance company suggests that Romney is not living up to his own publicly-stated values,” said Stephanie Cutter, the Obama deputy campaign manager, in a statement. ”

A Romney spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, dismissed what she called “a ridiculous attack from President Obama” and noted that “Governor Romney left Bain 13 years ago, and his investments are in a blind trust.” She said Obama was “trying desperately to change the subject from price shock at the gas pump, which is creating more misery for people trying to survive his bad economy.”

. Unlike the Kerrys, the Romneys file their taxes together, and Ann Romney’s assets are shared jointly with her husband.

The Bain investment, like similar deals made by other prominent U.S. companies, has come in for criticism from human rights activists who say it violates the spirit of U.S. rules prohibiting export of crime control equipment to China. The sanctions were introduced two decades ago after the bloody suppression of the Tiananmen Square protests.

Here is a real life story — years ago as 20 something and newly engaged, I was traveling back to my parents town from my fiance’s. I get into the bus for a 4 hour ride and the conductor is checking everyone’s tickets. It is early morning and he is kind of slow, very slow. This older male passenger enough to be my dad’s age or more, got in and finds himself a seat — looks kind of full of himself. He then started yelling at the conductor — ‘you idiot, this, that’ and other epithets. It went on for couple of minutes with the conductor meekly accepting it. I could not take it any longer. I, a 20 some year old took on that passenger on how he could treat any human being that way. As I challenged him and encouraged the conductor to speak up other people chimed in. But the offensive passenger turned his verbal abuse towards me because you know, I was insignificant, a woman, a girl, ‘how dare I?’. But the end result was that the point was made that what the passenger did was unacceptable in civil society and the victim had some hope for his dignity.

  34. Airport to possibly become Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport

    Mar 16, 2012

Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission members will be discussing and voting on a possible name change at Tuesday’s meeting.

The proposal suggests that the Little Rock National Airport be renamed the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in honor of President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

According to the drafted resolution, the name change will celebrate the Clinton Family because they have “dedicated their lives to the service of not only the City of Little Rock, but also to the State of Arkansas, the United States and the world as a whole.”

Also, in a draft press release we received, commissioners believe that “it is logical for the renaming to coincide with the airport renovation, a major, multi-million dollar project” that is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.

The commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20. If the proposal is approved the airport staff will begin the renaming process with FAA.

  35. Bill Clinton, Kohl, EU among 231 Nobel candidates

    By Pierre-Henry Deshayes (AFP) – Feb 27, 2012

OSLO — A total of 231 nominees are up for the Nobel Peace Prize this year, the Nobel Institute said Monday, with Bill Clinton, Helmut Kohl, the EU and WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning known to be on the list.

“As always, there are the usual ‘nominees’ and some newcomers, some famous and some unknowns, hailing from the four corners of the world,” the head of the Nobel Institute, Geir Lundestad, told AFP.

With 188 individuals and 43 organisations, the number of candidates comes close to last year’s record of 241, when the prestigious award went to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian activist Leymah Gbowee, and Yemeni “Arab Spring” activist Tawakkol Karman.

Thousands of people are eligible to submit nominations, including members of parliament and governments worldwide, university professors, past laureates and members of several international institutes, who had until February 1 to propose candidates.

The Nobel Institute keeps the names of nominees secret for 50 years, but those who are entitled to nominate are allowed to reveal the name of the person or organisation they have proposed.

Among the people known to have been nominated for this year’s prize are former US president Clinton, ex-German chancellor Kohl, who led his country’s reunification process, and Ukraine’s ex-premier and now jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

Also on the list is jailed US soldier Manning, who has been charged with 22 counts in a US military court for turning over a massive cache of classified US documents to anti-secrecy site WikiLeaks.

Despite its current crisis, the European Union is also among the candidates, as are Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, Cuban dissidents Oswaldo Paya and Yoani Sanchez, and Russian rights group Memorial and its founder Svetlana Gannushkina.

Yet others include US political scientist Gene Sharp, known for his theory of non-violent resistance which inspired some of the key figures behind the Arab Spring; Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, who was brought to power in 2011 by the revolution in his country; and television news channel Al-Jazeera.

The winner or winners will be announced in October.

The prize generates a media frenzy every year and occasionally sparks controversy — as in 2009 when US President Barack Obama was honoured just a few months after taking office.

Recently, the Norwegian Nobel Committee which selects the laureate has been accused of not following the wishes of prize creator Alfred Nobel as stated in his 1895 last will and testament.

Swedish authorities tasked with ensuring that foundations created by wills follow their statutes — including the Nobel Foundation — are investigating whether the Norwegian Nobel Committee is correctly carrying out the task assigned to it by Nobel.

The Swedish inquiry follows repeated criticism from Norwegian lawyer Fredrik Heffermehl, author of the book “The Nobel Peace Prize: What Nobel Really Wanted”.

Heffermehl claims that the five-member prize committee has gone astray by honouring human rights activists, such as Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in 2010, environmentalists such as Al Gore and the IPCC in 2007, and humanitarian workers like Mother Teresa in 1979.

In his will, Nobel stipulated that the Peace Prize should go to the person or organisation that “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

“We are eager for this debate to end,” Lundestad said Monday.

“The debate has been going on for years and nothing has really come of it,” he said.

    Heffermehl disagreed.

“I’m eager for the debate to start. For four years I’ve neither seen nor heard a single response to my questions,” he retorted.

“What cause and which people did Nobel have in mind when he spoke of ‘champions of peace’? The answer is so easy and so clear that if Lundestad and his committee accepted it, their only reaction would be to resign immediately,” he said in an email to AFP.

Hi Jan…happy you are back here…thx for posting that info…

it’s about time officials started recognizing both Bill and Hillary Clinton and giving them the respect and acknowledgement they deserve…I hope this will evolve and continue on a national level…

    …it kills them to acknowledge Bill’s presidency…

  37. A glancing blow from Team Obama revealing Romney’s Truthiness.. Romney’s campaign money will be drying up faster than a kitchen sponge dropped on the floor of the Sahara Desert. Does Obama have room to throw stones at Romney’s corruption when he lives in a very vulnerable glass white house?
    __________________

Nitt-Witt-Mitt Romney ALREADY in Obama’s Sniper Crosshairs for BAIN Capital — Newt Gingrich was RIGHT !

Romney breaks pledge, stands to profit from Bain investment in Chinese surveillance company

Mitt Romney is still making millions from his private equity firm Bain Capital’s financial investments around the world.

But, in deciding to run for office, he’s been trying to shed those investments that conflict with his newly-found political principles.

For example, when Romney decided to switch his rhetoric and start talking tough towards China, it was reported that his financial advisers “shed all his investments in China, worth as much as $1.5 million.”

In fact, Mitt Romney once declared:

“My trustee has indicated publicly that he will make an effort to make sure that my investments to the extent possible and practical, will conform with my political positions.”

Once again, the facts conflict with Romney’s political rhetoric. Flip-Flopper!

The New York Times revealed that Romney’s firm Bain Capital is still investing his money in China—this time, in a Chinese company that manufacturers surveillance systems:

In December, a Bain-run fund in which a Romney family blind trust has holdings purchased the video surveillance division of a Chinese company that claims to be the largest supplier to the government’s Safe Cities program, a highly advanced monitoring system that allows the authorities to watch over university campuses, hospitals, mosques, and movie theaters from centralized command posts.

The Bain-owned company, Uniview Technologies, produces what it calls “infrared antiriot” cameras and software that enable police officials in different jurisdictions to share images in real time through the Internet. Previous projects have included an emergency command center in Tibet.

Financial disclosure forms show that Romney still has a stake of “between $100,000 and $250,000 in the Bain Capital Asia fund that purchased Uniview.” Tax Notes noted that Romney’s retirement agreement with Bain Capital “covers new buyout funds started by his former partners through February 2009,” which means “Romney receives income from profits interests in separate Bain funds that are still running.”

Not only is Mitt Romney’s investment directly conflicting with his pledge, it’s conflicting with his newly-found principles.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Romney attacked President Obama with the false claim that he’s “demurred” on China’s human rights record, allowing a government that “marries aspects of the free market with suppression of political and personal freedom” to become “a widespread and disquieting norm.”

According to human rights activists, the company that Romney stands to profit from makes the very tools that the Chinese government uses “to intimidate and monitor political and religious dissidents.” One Tibetan Buddhist Monk noted that such surveillance cameras “helped the authorities identify and detain nearly 200 monks who participated in a protest” in 2008. “There are video cameras all over our monastery, and their only purpose is to make us feel fear,” he added.

Standing to profit from such a company violates Romney’s past pledge to match his principles with his investments. But this is not the first time he’s broken that pledge. After promising to shed investments the conflict with his party’s positions on Iran, stem cell research, and other issues, Romney’s family still “kept some of those stocks” the conflicted “and repeatedly bought new investments in similar holdings as recently as 2010.”

“Set against the background of epic dislocation in the financial markets and a supine media, “Admit The Horse” is a gripping political thriller about a dark-horse political candidate whose meteoric rise to the pinnacle of power is engineered amidst illegal campaign contributions, voter fraud and murder. The story’s unlikely players–an honorable Chicago detective, a retired DEA investigator, an idealistic venture capitalist, an African-American congresswoman and a suburban mom volunteering for his opponent–all begin to wonder: was his opportunistic rise to the Presidency all just coincidence…or conspiracy?”

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/own-cancels-rosie-o-donnell-301270

OWN has pulled the plug on Rosie O’Donnell’s five-month old talk show.

The daily show will tape its final episode on Tuesday, March 20 to air on Friday, March 30 in its 7 p.m. time slot. The news of its demise comes two months after the ailing network announced it had hired Shane Farley (Rachel Ray, Rosie O’Donnell Show) to replace Page Hurwitz as the show’s executive producer and would move Rosie into a significantly smaller 70-seat studio. The latter was a bid to inspire a sense of intimacy and lower costs on a series that is averaging 190,000 viewers. [snip]

Despite heavy hype surrounding the show, once viewed as a big “get” for cable network given O’Donnell’s talk show past, it failed to catch on with viewers. In addition to location and personnel changes, the show’s format has been tweaked in the hopes of goosing ratings. Among the recent changes were more one-on-one interviews and the elimination of the show’s game show segment.

This fundraiser was at the home of Tyler Perry. Here’s how the pooler describes the home:

“[It’s] a vast French –chateau style mansion reached by a steep winding road deep into the woods away from the road in a well heeled suburb of Atlanta. A fountain sits in the courtyard lit up by white lights under the water.

“The three story home complete with wooden shutters, that would have looked at home in the Loire Valley, was reached by a wide marble staircase leading up to the front door, inside which was a large crystal chandelier. The pool spotted a cozy looking library with antique volumes on the shelves as we were taken up two flights of stairs into a games room area, complete with a pub-style bar, pool table, antique chess set and large antique telescope.”

Upon entering the room, the president said, “Usually we have better accommodation for events but we decided to slum it here.”

Obama made special note of guest Oprah Winfrey. “[M]y good friend Oprah,” the president reportedly said, :who very early on when I was still running, just decided that she would support this guy with a name that nobody could pronounce. And just like books, skin cream, when Oprah decides she likes it then other people like it too and she has continued to be not just a friend but somebody who Michelle and I seek out in thinking about not just day to day issues… but trying to keep our focus on the big picture. What she has done for so many people not just in America but around the world is extraordinary, so I just want to thank you.”

It was the fifth fundraiser of the day. “We are starting to gear up, starting to get back into that campaign mode and it makes you reflect on the journey we have traveled so far over the last three years,” Obama reportedly said.

After leaving Washington this morning, the president went to Chicago before heading to his final stop, Atlanta. He’s scheduled to return to the White House later tonight.

Fresh out of law school, she bypassed lucrative careers in favor of the nonprofit Children’s Defense Fund. In Fayetteville, she ran a legal aid clinic and prisoners’ assistance project
    ….
Her early career was ascendant: After a brief stint working for the nonprofit Children’s Defense Fund, Hillary Clinton joined a select group of attorneys working on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.
    ….
Bill Clinton won election as the state’s attorney general in 1976
    ….
If health care would become the defining policy effort of Hillary Clinton’s tenure as the nation’s first lady, education won her attention in Arkansas.
At the time, census figures showed that fewer than 11 percent of Arkansans over age 25 had completed four years of college, well below the national average. Charged by her husband with leading a committee on education reform, Hillary Clinton sought to defuse tension over controversial changes and made a point of holding hearings in all 75 counties.
By all accounts, she was a success. “We’ve done elected the wrong Clinton,” Dumas recalled one conservative lawmaker saying, after listening to Hillary Clinton report on the committee’s findings. “She became a very popular person in her own right.”
    ….
Local political observers had long considered her a prominent behind-the-scenes adviser. In conversation, Bill Clinton would mention his wife’s take on policy issues. “I don’t think there’s any doubt that she was his home cabinet,” Nelson said. [….]

I’ll bet the Obama thugs would rehash Newts well-known “baggage”, which include his mistresses, especially the one named Fannie Mae, which will tie him to the mortgage/housing crisis fairly or not. Also he’s an old, white, Southerner, and we saw the subtle and not so subtle attacks on McCain for being old and white – throw in some jabs about Georgia’s “white supremacy”, and there you go. Then there’s the stuff on Newt’s ethics hearings when he was in the house – I believe Nancy Pelosi has those, and even though they’re supposed to be sealed they won’t stay that way. Remember Obama’s opponent for US Senate had an ugly divirce and those records were supposed to be sealed, too, but “someone in the media” got a hold of them and the rest is history. That should have been investigated but I don’t think it was.

There is no question that he is smart but he also loses it quickly. Obama guys will break him in a matter of weeks and their attack line will be his family history of mental illness.

Admin – There is more to the story at that fundraiser at Tyler Perry place.

Donors at one of President Barack Obama’s fundraisers in Atlanta on Friday received at least one message loud and clear from the Obama campaign: “F*ck you.”

Singer Cee Lo Green, best known for his solo career and his work in the musical duo Gnarles Barkley, was entertaining guests at the $500-per-ticket event at Tyler Perry Studios when he prepared to launch into a performance of his song “Forget You.”

There was only one problem. Green decided, apparently at the last minute, to sing the uncensored and decidedly unpresidential version of the song — titled “F*ck You” — instead.

Another email from Paulie. This is like old times!

turndown – You are the best when you write about Hillary, rai·son d’être for this blog.

  70. Don’t know about ‘very much like Sandra Fluke’s’ — too early to attribute any glory to Fluke. But sure, Hillary started being a star in her own right well before BC became governor. But I think Bill gave her ‘education’ portfolio to reform (and that is how I meant).

    ======================

Well, as First Lady of Arkansas, Hillary was put charge of a high profile reorganizing of the whole school system. I’m talking about the sort of thing she did before her marriage to Bill or her high profile time: like Sandra, Hillary did low-level advocacy work for women who could not afford regular legal help, on controversial ‘women’s issues’. Much of Sandra’s was on domestic violence, but one of her reasons for attending Georgetown was that the women there needed an advocate on the contraception issue.

  71. Sorry, turndown. Fluke does not impress me as much of anything because of what she did recently. She was ready to be used by Obama to try to make an issue out of this non-issue. Sure, advocate for contraception or abortion rights because unplanned pregnancies hit poor and single women the hardest but to be used in this by Obama in an election cycle is not the choice I would have made.

  72. Fluke graduated from Cornell in 2003, then did legal advocacy work for women for about 5 years. Then she entered Georgetown and is now a third-year law student due to graduate in 2012. She knew about Georgetown’s contraceptive policy when she chose Georgetown and planned to contest it. That’s all pretty far in advance to be planting herself as a mole to be ready to be used by Obama, in case something like this were to come up. 😉

We know Obama rides on any coat tail he can catch. Anyone who gets good publicity, he invites them or phones them or something, to get a headline for himself.

Should Hillary stop advocating for contraception and abortion, so that Obama can’t get a headline by saying, “I agree with Hillary”?

  73. Never said she was a mole. But as a modern woman, she needs to recognize where and what to advocate for and when. Still not impressed.

  74. O cannot pick basketball teams either. He pick UNM over Louisville, and he was wrong. He is just trying to get votes.

  75. But as a modern woman, she needs to recognize where and what to advocate for and when.

    =================

I’m puzzled. Suppose this had come up under some Generic POTUS that none of us had strong feelings about one way or another, and an acceptable UHC plan. Laws requiring contraception coverage already in effect in 20+ states to be extended to the whole nation. Bishops made a fuss, and Issa held a hearing, and Fluke was invited to testify, then excluded (no other women allowed to speak for contraceptives and non-contraceptive use of bc pills). Would she still have been wrong to speak?

(Btw at Georgetown it’s not even a ‘taxpayers money’ or ’employers money’ issue. The students pay it all themselves. Doing it through insurance just gets them better prices.)

  76. Depends on what she wanted to achieve in the generic circumstance. In this specific situation Obama is using this issue to score a political point and win a political battle against the right wing in an election season. She is being used by him and his minions. In fact it undermines what she wants to do which is to make contraceptives affordable/(easily)accessible for women who can’t or won’t use it. The fact that Obamacare is imperfect in so many ways but they are kicking up a ruckus over this provision/service is enough to show what their motives are which are in no way related to achieving an acceptable UHC plan.

And frankly, reserve the contraception issue to helping women who can’t or won’t use it for whatever reason — money/poverty, lack of education/awareness, abusive relationships. Others, they should take care of themselves. Get an IUD for $1000 and it will last you 10 years. Hold your male partner accountable to do their part. We are not all damsels in distress that we seek government in the guise of some big UHC plan to come to our aid for everyday needs. Having protected consensual sex is not a healthcare issue for the majority.

I’ve saved my link privilege for this video being tweeted with tea party hashtag. The video is quite impressive. Begins with the picture of Obama 2007 on stage in Harkin’s field refusing to salute our flag. Later on you see Pelosi carrying the big Medicare gavel to taunt protesters on day ObamaCare passed. I’m hoping it goes viral. See you tomorrow.

    Thanks for posting it-

Here is the latest wh propaganda narrated by Tom Hanks released on March 15:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NXtJhLUOFXE

The Republican National Committee greeted the video with raised eyebrows.

In 2008, he did a 30-minute infomercial to talk about what he would do as president, and it seems somewhat ironic that four years later he has to stretch a 17-minute video to say what he’s done,” spokesman Sean Spicer said. “As well done as it is, even the best Hollywood studio effects can’t cover up the failed policies of the last three years.

It’s as slick as any commercial Hollywood production. And it’s about as much a “documentary” as a campaign speech by Joe Biden.

President Barack Obama’s re-election machine on Thursday released a two-minute trailer for what they have billed as a 17-minute documentary that makes the case that he deserves a second term.

  81. Interesting information- take it for what it’s worth if Obama is re-elected. Personally, if Obama feels he won’t win the election, I imagine that date will coincide with one much earlier if he doesn’t feel Romney will co-operate with UN Mandates- My intuitive self is saying, Romney is skeered- He didn’t sign up for what the elites have planned as their future portends for America.

Mrs Smith, that is something that does not bode well for us. In the past, weren’t the executive orders for these dictatorial powers usually initiated after some major conflict had arisen, not before? What exactly warrants this action? Since Israel has not actually attacked Iran, why at this time? Is this something to be used against Americans when the OWS crowd kicks it to high gear before the upcoming election when their actions are used to instigate internal strife whereas ordinary Americans start protecting themselves against the actions of these Obama brownshirts and their gullible followers?

President Obama signs Executive Order allowing for control over all US resources…

Mrs Smith, that is something that does not bode well for us. In the past, weren’t the executive orders for these dictatorial powers usually initiated after some major conflict had arisen, not before?
    ______________

Yes, in fact this new executive order is a rewrite of Nixon’s EX-O. Tightening it’s grip on the why’s and wherefore’s of who and what can and cannot do or go, how or where.
    ____________

What exactly warrants this action? Since Israel has not actually attacked Iran, why at this time?

This action seems to be tied to a time frame. Obama expected Israel to take the bait and start a war with Iran which (we) have promised to aide should that occur. Well, it hasn’t. (TG) I believe Obama would have stalled help to Israel and by now the US would have been up in arms and chaos over the reckless bombing and killing of citizens obliterating their country. The statement made by Rev Wright the other day, (Ordering Muslims to March on Israel)leads me to believe, they are running behind schedule.

Is this something to be used against Americans when the OWS crowd kicks it to high gear before the upcoming election when their actions are used to instigate internal strife whereas ordinary Americans start protecting themselves against the actions of these Obama brownshirts and their gullible followers?
    ______________

We tried here for so long warning everyone OWS belonged to Obama’s plan for destroying America.

I wouldn’t doubt they will all be deputized in some fashion as some sort of command with police authority turning our country into a police state overnight.

Higly recommend reading Brenda and Aaron’s second book, The Red Army- (we already know the Trojan Horse is the Manchurian Candidate) and I’ll see if I can get the newest book title from Brenda today.

Her books are NOT fictional, mystery, spy or thriller novels. They are books compiled through exhaustive research foot noted with sourced attributions. As true to our lives as we have been watching events unfold in real time ourselves.

  87. A day late, but for those who enjoy Irish humor, here’s a story from home:

Mrs. Donovan was walking down O’Connell Street in Dublin when she met up with Father Flaherty.

The Father said, ‘Top o’ the mornin’ to ye! Aren’t ye Mrs. Donovan and
didn’t I marry ye and yer hoosband 2 years ago?’
She replied, ‘Aye, that ye did, Father.’

The Father asked, ‘And be there any wee little ones yet?’

She replied, ‘No, not yet, Father.’

The Father said, ‘Well now, I’m going to Rome next week and I’ll light a
candle for ye and yer hoosband.’

She replied, ‘Oh, thank ye, Father.’
    They then parted ways.

Some years later they met again.
The Father asked, ‘Well now, Mrs. Donovan , how are ye these days?’

She replied, ‘Oh, very well, Father!’
The Father asked, ‘And tell me, have ye any wee ones yet?’

She replied, ‘Oh yes, Father! Three sets of twins and 4 singles, 10 in all!’

The Father said, ‘That’s wonderful! How is yer loving hoosband doing?’
She replied, ‘E’s gone to Rome to blow out yer fookin’ candle.

This is FAR too long to post here but I urge every American concerned about freedom to read the entire doc. I will post excerpt later.

THIS IS IT!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what we have KNOW would happen, Here it is, just in time to herald spring.

We got it, 4 or 5 posts up-

Yup, this is the real thing we’ve worried about for so long. Why these investigations like F&F have gone no where. They are all in it together. Everyone thinks calling Romney Obama’s evil twin is a knock- far from it… it’s the Truth.

Ever wonder why the House hasn’t Impeached him for subversion, treasonous activities? They’re all in on it- safe and secure- and set up to vote from home indefinitely until the country is under (their) control.

  93. Haven’t had time to digest this comment but thought it worth posting for people to mull over and NO! I DID NOT SAY I BELIEVE EVERY WORD OF IT! Just food for thought.

    From Ed at HA.

Why the update? If one takes a look at EO 12919, the big change is in the Cabinet itself. In 1994, we didn’t have a Department of Homeland Security, for instance, and some of these functions would naturally fall to DHS. In EO 12919, the FEMA director had those responsibilities, and the biggest change between the two is the removal of several references to FEMA (ten in all). Otherwise, there aren’t a lot of changes between the two EOs, which looks mainly like boilerplate.

In fact, that’s almost entirely what it is. The original EO dealing with national defense resources preparedness was issued in 1939 (EO 8248) according to the National Archives. It has been superseded a number of times, starting in 1951 by nearly every President through Bill Clinton, and amended twice by George W. Bush.

Barack Obama may be arrogant, and the timing of this release might have looked a little strange, but this is really nothing to worry about at all.

Update: It’s worth noting, too, that the second change by Bush to EO 12919 came through an amendment to EO 11858 that eliminated requirements of Cabinet officials to report on attempts by foreigners to invest in “critical technologies” in the US or “industrial espionage activities” targeting defense contractors (Section 801). Obama’s new EO doesn’t reverse that action, either.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/18/national-defense-resources-preparedness-executive-order-power-grab-or-update/

  94. A little good news from Caville.

Celebrated Democratic political consultant James Carville said Friday that a poor economy, persistent unemployment, an ineffective communications team and the president’s own inability to connect with voters make Barack Obama beatable in the fall elections.

“We have a pretty weak incumbent,” said Carville, who helped a scrappy Bill Clinton to an unlikely 1992 election. Citing Obama’s low approval ratings and high unemployment, the advisor noted that the statistics are not on Obama’s side. “I’ve seen worse, but that’s on the low side,” he said of Obama’s ratings among voters, adding, “He’s not a shoo-in for reelection.”

But Carville adds that it won’t be the GOP that beats Obama. The reason: The GOP candidates are even worse. “I think the Republicans can’t beat him, but events can,” he said, suggesting that the fallout of the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on Obama’s health reform act will be huge. “Romney can’t beat Obama heads-up.”

    http://washingtonexaminer.com/politics/washington-secrets/2012/03/carville-obama-weak-can-be-beat/377806

  95. Hot Air is a sometimes a political mouthpiece for Obama. Whoever, is downplaying the significance of the update. I don’t like this Jack-wagon. It’s all puzzle pieces and they are beginning to fit into a Martial Law coming sooner rather than a for a legitimate emergency.

My links are explanatory to the ramifications. The one from Zero Hedge is the clincher. Why spend millions building a remote, secure facility expressly for tracking people via cell phones and electronic devices?

  96. Yes, Mrs. S, I saw it. I am going out but will read the article when I get back.

    Now this is HUGE!

I’m gonna haveta learn howta shoot that shotgun bad shoulder or no.

  97. I’ve been reading everything I can about the EO. On Pam Geller’s site I learned this about the order:

“It calls for a draft, but not just a draft. A civilian draft, of “persons of outstanding experience or ability” without compensation. If they think they need you, they can compel you to work for the government for nothing”.

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2012/03/obama-prepares-for-national-emergency-nationalize-everything-even-you-wo-congressional-oversight.html

    _____________________

I hate saying it- BUT… Gingrich is the only OUTSIDER not invited to the Party. I bookmarked a copy of his platform a while ago- He is the only one with immediate roll backs of Obama’s policies and a platform from his campaign site that sets us back on track-
    …………..

    From the Gingrich Committee:

Record of Accomplishment and New Imperative to Return America to that Shinning City on a Hill

That’s where a record comes in. Not just the record of votes, which is often a meaningless toll of positions taken for political reasons on bills that were always going to pass or were never going to pass, but a record of actions taken that actually mattered.

A record of actions taken that actually mattered. Newt is the man who fits that description to a “T”.

He can identify what is most important to the country, develop a plan to overcome that challenge, articulate the the merits of overcoming the challenge and why the plan will work.

I hadn’t been for Gingrich initially and spent plenty of energy excoriating him, these last several years, for any number of sins he committed against the Republican/Conservative ideals. He seemed a turncoat of sorts, particularly when he babysat Pelosi on the couch.

On reflection, as far as Newt is concerned, I guess I take him at his word that he made a few mistakes in his life and he has at least some regret for those decisions. God knows I am no angel and so I have to reflect on the man’s ability to get things done.

Newt gave us the Republican majority, the Contract with America and completed 2/3rds of his agenda while in office.

He now has a new plan for America and with what is likely to become a Congressional Super Majority and a Senate Majority, if not Super Majority, I believe he will absolutely accomplish his agenda.

Say goodbye to ObamaCare the single biggest scam and travesty foisted upon a free people who, by right, ought to have been given the opportunity to read the bill and debate it. Instead, a win at all cost, cheating agenda was developed and it was signed with most people never laying eyes on at least page 2 of this utopian dreck.

    Executive Orders Positions:

The following are all within the executive powers to simply order and with the exception of securing the border within one year, they are all easily accomplished with the stroke of a pen and no way to challenge them in the legislature.

Keystone may be challenged in the courts but I think the Executive can order the EPA to approve, under National Security Priorities and it is a National Security issue, as well, a jobs issue.
As President, Newt, could actually have a very busy 1st week or month just on these initiative alone.

    1. Eliminate the thirty-nine White House “Czar” positions created during the current administration. The president does not have the authority to appoint bureaucrats to power who are not accountable to the Congress.

    2. “Mexico City Policy” of Respect for Life. Reauthorize President Ronald Reagan’s policy – also known as the “Mexico City Policy”— to stop tax payer dollars from being used to fund or promote abortions in foreign countries.

    3. Restore conscience clause protections for Healthcare Workers. No American working in a medical environment should be forced to perform any procedure that he or she finds morally or ethically objectionable based on religious teaching. This protection should include, but not be limited to abortion. Existing conscience clause protections need to be strengthened.

    4. Respect Each Sovereign Nation’s Choice of its Capital. Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own Capital. Accordingly, the U.S. State Department should be instructed to respect the choice of each sovereign nation and place the American embassy in their Capital. (Israel is the only country the United States discriminates against in this regard. The people of Israel have designated Jerusalem as their capital. Yet the United States retains its embassy in Tel Aviv.)

    5. End the Attorney General’s Assault on the States. Instruct the Attorney General to withdraw all immigration-related lawsuits against states immediately, including those pending in Arizona and South Carolina. The Obama Administration refuses to enforce federal immigration laws, and instead sues states who are merely trying to enforce the laws that the federal government neglects. The Gingrich Administration will secure the border by Jan. 1, 2014 by any means necessary.

    6. The Keystone Pipeline

Unleash American Energy by Approving the Keystone XL Pipeline. Instruct the State Department to approve a Presidential Permit immediately for the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that will send 700,000 barrels of oil a day from Great Plains and Southwestern states to Gulf Coast refineries lower staggering energy prices, and create up to 120,000 American jobs.

    LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS

Now we get into the details of an inclusive agenda that brings the people(you and me), through their representatives, into process. The TEA Party and conservatives are going to have a majority in both houses.

Let’s elect an Executive who will absolutely fulfill the promise of our ideals.

    Executive Summary

Repeal Obamacare and pass a replacement that saves lives and money by empowering patients and doctors, not bureaucrats and politicians.
Return to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve and creating a training requirement for extended federal unemployment benefits to encourage work and improve the quality of our workforce.

“Unleash America”’s full energy production potential in oil, natural gas, coal, biofuels, wind, nuclear oil shale and more, creating jobs, stimulating a sustainable manufacturing boom, lowering gasoline and other energy prices, increasing government revenues, and bolstering national security.

Save Medicare and Social Security by giving Americans more choices and tools to live longer, healthier lives with greater financial independence.

Balance the federal budget by freeing job-creators to grow the economy, reforming entitlements, and implementing waste cutting and productivity improvement systems such as Lean Six Sigma to eliminate waste and fraud. Pass a balanced budget amendment to keep it balanced.

Control the border by January 1, 2013 and establish English as the official language of government; reform the legal visa system, and make it much easier to deport criminals and gang members while making it easier for law abiding visitors to come to the US.

Revitalize our national security system to meet 21st century threats by restructuring and adequately funding our security agencies to function within a grand strategy for victory over those who seek to kill us or limit American power.
Maximize the speed and impact of medical breakthroughs by removing unnecessary obstacles that block new treatments from reaching patients and emphasizing research spending towards urgent national priorities, like brain science with its impact on Alzheimer’s, autism, Parkinson’s, mental health and other conditions knowledge of the brain will help solve.

Restore the proper role of the judicial branch by using the clearly delineated powers available to the president and Congress to correct, limit, or replace judges who violate the Constitution.

Enforce the Tenth Amendment by starting an orderly transfer of power and responsibility from the federal government back “to the states, respectively, or to the people,” as the Constitution requires. Over the next year, state and local officials and citizens will be asked to identify the areas which can be transferred back home.

Newt gave us the three most important victories of the 90’s Welfare Reform, Balanced Budget and Reduced Taxes. I hope I don’t need to describe the benefits of those victories. They ought to be obvious to everyone by now.

Lastly, there have been some reports that Newt shouldn’t get all the credit. He has admitted as much Clinton and Newt worked together. We know Clinton was the driving force NOT giving in to the R’s..

Do we really want to go down the road with that kind of adolescent sophistry and parsing of what happened?

Newt is the guy who thought of these big things, proposed them and shepherded their implementation?

Newt has once again identified what is important to us now, at this time and described how we can get there with our representative majorities. He has done it before and I declare Newt Gingrich was then and is Now a leader.

Newt Gingrich is the only one who can accomplish this..

Editor’s note: Kirsten Swinth is an associate professor of history at Fordham University. Her work focuses on women, work and culture. She is working on a book on care and competition in postindustrial America and the making of the working family. This column was written in association with The Op-Ed Project.

(CNN) — “I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was fulfill my profession,” Hillary Clinton famously snapped on the campaign trail two decades ago Friday. Mostly, we remember the comment as a moment in the perpetual mommy wars, but I tend to think about it as a moment in the history of chocolate chip cookies.

Capitalizing on the political gaffe, Family Circle challenged Clinton to a bake-off, and she obliged, providing an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe that handily defeated Barbara Bush’s variant. (You can still find it winning rave reviews online.) Home-baked cookies struck at the heart of what we thought mothering was all about.

It’s still true today, but we have given it new meaning.

In 1992, Clinton’s comment drew scorching responses from at-home mothers and cheers from fellow working moms. Such polarized reactions should be set in the context of Clinton’s own life. Among the few women in her Yale Law School class, Clinton fought hard for professional success. Her remark was not merely a political misstep, but a generational declaration: a reflection of gut-level struggles women had made for workplace opportunity, even as mothers.

Yet, the long reach of what was, after all, an offhand remark touches on something deeper than a mere episode in the nation’s contrived reality show, “Mom v. Mom.” Through the twists and turns of that cookie-baking scandal, we experienced the birthing pains of the working family.

An idealized image of mothering stays powerfully with us: children arriving home from school, met at the door with warm chocolate chip cookies and a motherly embrace. That image evokes devotion, time and, most importantly, love. It is middle-class parenting unstressed by the demands of labor, whether paid or unpaid (the pans and trays awaiting washing are generally conveniently left out of the picture).

What was true 20 years ago is still true today: Many of us struggle with profound ambivalence about the demands that mothers’ paid labor make on that idealized possibility. We long to care without pressure. The still distinct memory of Clinton’s unsavvy comment speaks to a deep-seated cultural experience of loss. With more than two-thirds of mothers in the labor force today, few families are immune to negotiating child care and paid work. The plate of chocolate chip cookies embodies our desire for parenting and family space free of the demands of our paid jobs.

Still, there are signs of change. “Working family” was a term newly in use when Clinton made her famous comment, but working mothers have been, however messily and tentatively, forging a new model of parenting and laboring since that time.

Parents’ priorities have changed, but not at the expense of their kids. Recent studies of time use by sociologists at the University of Maryland show employed mothers spending as much time in primary child care as nonemployed mothers in 1975.

Working-family mothers live with messier houses but report higher levels of enjoyment in their children’s company than three decades ago. Today’s working mother may be mixing up fewer batches of cookies, but when she does, she’s often baking with the kids — the activity not so much abandoned, as reserved for moments that matter to parent and child.

This new pragmatism doesn’t mean there’s no lingering guilt. The middle-class parents who still suffer most, I suspect, from cookie angst could learn from working-class women who have long seen good parenting in providing. Devotion to children can come in the form of earning what it takes to put treats on the table.

And they would do well to listen to another first lady, Michelle Obama, who as a black woman is well schooled in the multiple roles that black women, whether middle class or poor, have long fulfilled. Black mothers historically have believed they are dedicated mothers, even while earning money for their families. No one assumed that Obama, in her lawyer days before the White House, devoted herself to cookie making, but we knew she was a good mother.

Although it has not been as widely reported about as her gardens, Obama has been a voice for working families in the White House, speaking regularly on behalf of work-life initiatives. True, her shortbread cookies lost to Cindy McCain’s oatmeal-butterscotch in Family Circle’s 2008 bake-off. But more telling was that Working Mother magazine named her one of the country’s most powerful working moms in 2011.

I have always been embarrassed by Clinton’s cookies. They seemed like a capitulation to politics seeking to turn back the clock on women’s roles. But I have begun to think that I shouldn’t be. Twenty years ago Friday, that first lady campaigner made a divisive declaration on working motherhood. Perhaps we should see Clinton’s successful decades in the public limelight since as a lesson in the new pragmatism.

Like Clinton, we can have our cookies, and careers, too.

New Obama Executive Order Seizes U.S. Infrastructure and Citizens for Military Preparedness (now the Truth surfaces-)

    Brandon Turbeville

    March 18, 2012

In a stunning move, on March 16, 2012, Barack Obama signed an Executive Order stating that the President and his specifically designated Secretaries now have the authority to commandeer all domestic U.S. resources including food and water. The EO also states that the President and his Secretaries have the authority to seize all transportation, energy, and infrastructure inside the United States as well as forcibly induct/draft American citizens into the military. The EO also contains a vague reference in regards to harnessing American citizens to fulfill “labor requirements” for the purposes of national defense.

Not only that, but the authority claimed inside the EO does not only apply to National Emergencies and times of war. It also applies in peacetime.

The National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order exploits the “authority” granted to the President in the Defense Production Act of 1950 in order to assert that virtually every means of human survival is now available for confiscation and control by the President via his and his Secretaries’ whim.

The unconstitutionality of the overwhelming majority of Executive Orders is well established, as well as the illegality of denying citizens their basic Constitutional and human rights, even in the event of a legitimate national emergency. Likewise, it should also be pointed out that, like Obama’s recent Libyan adventure and the foregone conclusion of a Syrian intervention, there is no mention of Congress beyond a minor role of keeping the allegedly co-equal branch of government informed on contextually meaningless developments.

Egypt officials expect U.S. to unblock military aid
    By Marwa Awad

    CAIRO | Sat Mar 17, 2012 5:57pm EDT

(Reuters) – Egyptian officials involved in recent negotiations with U.S. diplomats said on Saturday they believed that Washington planned to unblock military aid to Egypt, which has been embroiled in a dispute with the United States over democratic freedoms.

About $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt that Congress approved for the current fiscal year was blocked under a new law requiring U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to certify that Egypt’s military supports a transition to civilian rule.
But the law, passed in December, says Clinton can waive the requirement on grounds of national security.

America’s political elite and senior military officials have visited Cairo to try to defuse a crisis with Egypt’s military, which has been ruling Egypt since President Hosni Mubarak was overthrown by a popular uprising last year.

If permanent, any cut-off in U.S. military aid to Egypt – the Arab world’s most populous country – could rupture the strong alliance between the two countries which began in 1979 when Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel, analysts say.
“U.S. aid to Egypt is expected to continue because the ties between the two countries are strong and important for the region,” an Egyptian official involved in the negotiations told Reuters. “Both the military and economic assistance benefit U.S. defense companies and development agencies in America. The benefit is therefore mutual to both countries”

When asked if Egypt expected the aid to be released another official said: “Yes, the parties involved understand the challenges ahead and are willing to support each other politically and strategically.”
He added that the talks between U.S. and Egyptian officials had underscored “Egypt’s strategic stability and America’s interests in the region.”

    CLINTON MAY DECIDE NEXT WEEK

The U.S. State Department said on Friday Clinton could decide on the military aid as early as the middle of next week. The New York Times quoted congressional officials as saying Obama’s administration planned to resume the military aid.
In the last few months, Egypt’s military rulers have overseen parliamentary elections judged largely free and fair and have scheduled a presidential vote that begins in May.

But Congress members critical of Egypt have said concerns over human rights abuses risked the continuation of U.S. aid. Some of them said there was pressure from the Pentagon and American defense contractors to allow the aid to go forward.

The Obama administration may have little choice but to go along with the Egyptian army’s demands.

Egypt must buy most of the weapons financed by U.S. military aid from American arms makers such as General Dynamics, which supplies Egypt’s army with tanks, putting pressure on U.S. lawmakers from states with arms industries ahead of November elections.

The military establishment is almost certain to retain a key role in Egypt’s decision making, including economic policy, no matter who wins in the two-round presidential election in May and June, analysts and diplomats say.
Egyptian and U.S. troops train every second year in joint Bright Star drills and the U.S. aid has guaranteed overflight rights and priority passage of U.S. Navy ships through the strategic Suez Canal.

  103. From The Hill, there is already some pressure on Hillary from Republicans on this matter:

Bachmann, Paul press Clinton to reject military aid to Egypt
By Pete Kasperowicz – 03/17/12 11:11 AM ET

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) this week called on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not to certify that Egypt’s government is promoting freedom of expression and religion, a finding that would allow the U.S. to offer Egypt military aid.

In a March 15 letter to Clinton, the Bachmann and Paul said that Egypt’s government is still investigating activists and repressing the freedom of expression and religion, and that the rule of law is still under threat.

“A decision to waive the conditions on military aid would send the wrong message to the Egyptian government that U.S. taxpayers will subsidize the Egyptian military while it continues to oversee the crackdown on civil society and to commit human rights abuses,” they wrote. “No credible assessment of the situation in Egypt can conclude that the Egyptian government is ‘implementing policies to protect freedom of expression, association, and religion, and due process of law.’ “

That last requirement was a condition of military aid that Congress placed in the 2012 State Department and foreign aid appropriations bill. Bachmann and Paul also called on Clinton “not to waive these conditions” in order to send aid to Egypt.

The letter was prompted in part by a pending April 10 trial involving the staff of several non-government organizations (NGOs), including the National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute and Freedom House. It added that investigations into 400 NGOs are still ongoing, further eroding individual freedom in Egypt.

The letter said the U.S. should block all aid to Egypt’s military until Egypt allows domestic and foreign NGOs to operate, anti-NGO laws are repealed and their property returned, and the U.S. government is repaid all bail posted to release NGO staff.

Bachmann and Paul also said the U.S. needs to delay aid until Egypt “begins to respect the fundamental rights of its citizens and due process of law.”

  104. “Egypt must buy most of the weapons financed by U.S. military aid from American arms makers such as General Dynamics, which supplies Egypt’s army with tanks, putting pressure on U.S. lawmakers from states with arms industries ahead of November elections.”

The Muslim Brotherhood is the prevailing government in Egypt. They will use our money to pay for their guns and armaments from our companies… then turn around and use them on US…and/or on Israel.

She had better stall them… with a good excuse.. like we will only release money for Humanitarian Aide.. like food, clothing, water.. for the time being..

  105. To me it looks like Obama wants to USE Hillary as the trigger to begins the Wars… after that she will be blamed for all the ills suffered to the ME, Israel and the US.

  106. Read Hotair and Legal resurrection for a good analysis on the EO. It all looks boiler plate. In this day and age where an ad company tracks your buys to customize ads on your screen, we would be stupid to assume that govt resources will not be directed toward some amount of surveillance given everything else going on in the world. Mumbai terrorist perpetrators and links to Pakistani ISI were found using celluar data.

My sense is that the wily Obama and his minions put this out on Friday just to get the people’s juices up, like it is happening now. They are laughing at the hair on fire reaction. It is distraction and more distraction and birther thing in a different form all over again. I don’t think we should fall into that trap. Be vigilant but probably not overreact.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/18/national-defense-resources-preparedness-executive-order-power-grab-or-update/

    ————————-

I have an explanation for the civilian draft that is benign — if you are interested I will share.

  111. So, one comment made on Hot Air is enough reason to call something boilerplate? Is it not possible that the person who made that comment is a mole working for the Obamaoists? It’s been reported on the internet tha the Obama propagandists are spreading themselves throughout the internet again, showing up
as commenter anywhere and everywhere with the intent of disrupting discussion, and debate about the sorry Obama administration, and mitigating the fallout of actions committed by it. I trust what feels right to me, and I am very leary of accepting some anonymous commenters supposed belief. With that written, I do trust the writer of Legal Insurrection, so if he wrote that there is nothing to worry about as far as the executive order was concerned, then I will pay some heed to his comments. I will also note comments by Pamela Gellar, who although noted for inflammatory rhetoric, at least she seems to attempt to dig up the real dirt for our protection.

The nook was introduced during the interim when the original Kindle was very pricy. We decided to wait on the Kindle until availability was at a decent price rather than paying all out doors when it first came out. New Technology always gets cheaper as their sales volume lessens. I haven’t purchased an I-Pad as of yet. I didn’t want to switch cell providers for the privilege seeing we live in the mountains reception is at a premium here.

I have been looking at the IPAD also, as you get a lot for your money, and there are Apple stores for tech support. However, I, like you have to wait for the newness to wear off, and hopefully the kinks not found in testing.

What I did not understand is the difference between wifi and anywhere hookup. I don’t think I would be anywhere, that I do not have wifi, unless in the car. You pay a lot extra for hooking up anywhere. Since I am already paying that for a smart phone, I think I could make do with a wifi connection, and put money into storage instead. I am not a cutting edge techy. However, I want to be careful not to buy tech I do not need.

A little good news from Caville.

Celebrated Democratic political consultant James Carville said Friday that a poor economy, persistent unemployment, an ineffective communications team and the president’s own inability to connect with voters make Barack Obama beatable in the fall elections.

    (…)

But Carville adds that it won’t be the GOP that beats Obama. The reason: The GOP candidates are even worse. “I think the Republicans can’t beat him, but events can,” he said, suggesting that the fallout of the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on Obama’s health reform act will be huge. “Romney can’t beat Obama heads-up.”

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Banal Point, Destroys the Republic

ELY, Nev. — Ruth Bader Ginsburg has disturbed the balance of the universe by giving an interview to Egyptian television in which she does not recommend using the U.S. Constitution as a model for post-Mubarak happiness. The whole video is here, and some transcripts are at the link, but this part is the hackle-raiser.

Q: Would your honor’s advice be to get a part or other countries’ constitutions as a model, or should we develop our own draft?

A: You should certainly be aided by all the constitution-writing that has gone one since the end of World War II. I would not look to the US constitution, if I were drafting a constitution in the year 2012. I might look at the constitution of South Africa. That was a deliberate attempt to have a fundamental instrument of government that embraced basic human rights, had an independent judiciary. It really is, I think, a great piece of work that was done. Much more recent than the U.S. Constitution: Canada has a Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It dates from 1982. You would almost certainly look at the European Convention on Human Rights. Yes, why not take advantage of what there is elsewhere in the world? I’m a very strong believer in listening and learning from others.

  132. Indian constitution is a combination of British and the US. I guess they took the best of both worlds, old and the new. 🙂

Actually the only time I use it now is when I am in the car and not driving, and I get bored. I usually go in and check messages, and facebook. I figure anything else can usually wait. Had fun with it this Oct, as I was trying to update a data base in DC. The web master and I kept email back and forth, and I could reply real time even though I was on the road, but not driving. However I am really not a fan of the touch keyboards, or even the slide outs. My fingers just keep hitting the wrong keys.

  134. Just a thought for those inclined to see a similarity.

TD meets a very pregnant woman at the Mall. They strike up a conversation. TD says, “do you know what you are having?”- The woman says, “yes, I’m having a girl.” To the ordinary person, a most innocuous statement. TD proceeds with, “half of that baby belongs to someone else. Are you aware of that?”- “You didn’t mention the father when you responded to my question…” and on and on and on…. I shan’t go on…

  135. “My fingers just keep hitting the wrong keys.”

I know- very problematic. Doesn’t work very well with a pen or pencil eraser strike either. Feels like Mrs. Fat fingers! 🙂

  136. NMF, the joke is though that it became a confused muddle. Well, for a confused muddle it has worked and worked well for more than half a century now and with the (second?) biggest minority Muslim population in the world. The Indians don’t get the recognition they deserve for preserving their country as a strong secular democracy and continue to do that. I have great admiration for American constitution and how it has endured after all these many years without many amendments. But the US could take inspiration at how India has balanced its acts in preserving its many languages and dialects, ethnicity and multi-culturalism, religions not just Hindu, Muslim, Christian but many hundreds of sub-religions and groups. It is a marvel that it has held together like it has.

  139. It takes a lot to get a lot of groups of women riled up, but the Bile Maher scheduled appearance has accomplished the goal of uniting Alabama women against the event:

Alabama women’s groups protest Democratic Maher fundraiser

Twenty-five conservative women’s groups in Alabama are calling on the Alabama Democratic Party to cancel comedian Bill Maher’s appearance at their upcoming fundraiser.

“The Alabama Democratic Party, hoping to cash in on Bill Maher’s recent generosity to the president, is jumping on the Bill Maher bandwagon,” Stephanie Holden Smith of the Alabama chapter of Concerned Women for America said. “Conservative women from Concerned Women for America, Tea Party groups, and Republican Women’s groups are uniting to call for the Alabama Democratic Party to cancel their upcoming fundraiser focused around Bill Maher’s appearance in Huntsville on March 17.”

The Alabama Federation of Republican Women, CWA and a slew of county and city Republican women’s groups have come together in an effort to push Maher, whom they believe to be misogynistic, out of the event for his “hateful rhetoric” against female conservatives.

Representatives from the groups will be protesting the event on the Alabama State House steps Thursday.

“The Democrat Party of Alabama is showing their true values and lack of a moral compass by promoting a man like Bill Maher,” Tricia Whatley of the Azalea City Republican Women told TheDC. “They speak of a factious war on women from the conservatives, but commission a man like that for a fundraiser. He is a confirmed bachelor that has been sued by past girl friends for racial and emotionally abusive remarks made during the relationship. He obviously doesn’t see a value in womankind. What kind of self loathing woman would pay to be a part of that oppressive environment in the name of fundraising?”

CWA launched a petition and web video earlier in the week urging President Barack Obama to return Maher’s $1 million contribution to his Super PAC. CWA has also created a website to reinforce their ends rejectmaher.com.

Their petition and calls for an end to Maher’s involvement in Democratic endeavors follows the President’s criticism of radio host Rush Limbaugh for derogatory comments he made about a 30-year-old Georgetown Law student

“President Obama’s words about public discourse are beginning to look like typical Washington hypocrisy, as he is criticizing Rush Limbaugh on the one hand and taking money from a vile misogynistic comedian on the other,” said Penny Nance, president and CEO of CWA. “Obama should demand that Priorities USA return the money immediately – or in the very least, quit sending White House staff out to fundraise for the group. Now that David Axelrod isn’t going to be on Maher’s show, will White House staff stop going to fundraisers for Maher’s group?”

Tickets for the Maher event, set to take place the evening of March 17th, cost $100.

Please reconsider. THEY are the reason that so many others do not post here anymore. Remember that according to Alinsky rules….just about the time you are ready to give up, YOU WIN!

Normally, I would consider all options of candidates, but wait I have. And I am more than convinced that Romney is the establishment candidate that is ObamaLite. I am absolutely and positively convinced with a great deal of research under my belt that this is true. The math is not on his side about getting the nom with a delegate count; but he and his minions just can not allow themselves to comprehend that the voters just do not want, and will not have him, as their candidate. After all his $$$$ and all his carpetbombing at best he garners around thirty percent of the vote. That is not a winner.Further my assessment that he CAN not win over conservatives in the primary, so there is no need to worry about Independents now. Remember McPalin and the fact that it was McCain that DID not get the conservative vote; they opted to stay home and not vote, which in turn was a vote for ObaMAO. But those Romneyites are determined to push him down everyone’s throat and that alone does not set well with me.

You are a voice of reason here, Betty. Stay.

India’s religion of Hinduism (and smaller, Jainism) had long establislhed a strong value of tolerance for various sects and philosophies. Buddhism was a development from Hinduism, also tolerant of differences though looking for converts. So when seeds of monotheistic Islam and Christianity came along, they had to grow in a context that encouraged them to be more tolerant, more ‘live and let live’, than their branches in the West.

Jainism and Buddhism grew out of frustration with Hinduism and in an effort to reform Hinduism. Sikhism in the 19th century was an answer to build harmony between Hindus and Muslims. You may read about Buddhism in this post I wrote for NQ a while back (and follow other links I provide there). About the issues here – it is what it is and we all seem to be set off by different red flags.

There is ONE poster here who nearly made me leave the site but I refused to give it the satisfaction. I’m too Irish for that. Besides there is so much to love about the site that the occasional troll infestation is easily contained. Although, unlike with real rodents, which I catch and release and after getting a dozen in October and releasing them to an abandoned barn miles away in the country haven’t seen one since I’d probably opt for the glue traps for the obots. They deserve to suffer.

    :evil:u

  156. basil, I understand the ‘troll’ (sorry turndown) better than the other clique. I hope you make peace with her. Turndown (aka 1950democrat) has been here as long or before you or I were here and she owns a piece of this too. None of us have any right to call her a troll. There were times I have lost patience with her in the past over Islam but she at least sticks to her topic. I like her tenacity and all the abuse she takes but still springs back. She has the usual liberal passion and she has every right to say what she wants.

  157. basil, BTW, we used to live in Den Haag and loved Holland. You will like Amsterdam a lot. People are extremely nice and friendly.

In an article that would appear to be a poorly-executed parody of Texas Senate candidate Ted Cruz’s (R) right-wing beliefs it Cruz had not posted it on his own website, the Tea Party stalwart touts a truly ridiculous conspiracy theory about George Soros secretly partnering with the United Nations to come into our cities and eliminate our right to play golf:

In 1992, the United Nations adopted Agenda 21 to “achieve a more efficient and equitable world economy,” outlining a process to eliminate environmental decay and social injustice through micromanaging industries, communities, and culture. They will meet again next year to discuss its “progress” in over 100 nations.
The originator of this grand scheme is George Soros, who candidly supports socialism and believes that global development must progress through eliminating national sovereignty and private property. He has given millions to this project. But he is not the only one promoting this plan; in fact, the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) now consists of over 600 cities in the United States.
Agenda 21 attempts to abolish “unsustainable” environments, including golf courses, grazing pastures, and paved roads. It hopes to leave mother earth’s surface unscratched by mankind. . . . Agenda 21 subverts liberty, our property rights, and our sovereignty.
In reality, Agenda 21 is a twenty year-old non-binding resolution which speaks largely at a very high level of generality about reducing poverty and building sustainable living environments. The United States is one of 178 nations that signed onto this non-binding agenda — and we did so during the Bush Administration. So if Agenda 21 actually were a nefarious Soros plot to destroy paved roads and take away our sacred right to golf courses, it has worked very badly. Two decades after Agenda 21 was produced, Ted Cruz himself is still allowed to sell golf shirts on his website with minimal intrusion from UN peacekeepers.

They haven’t succeeded in framing the public argument, according to the Public Religion Research Institute. In a survey released today, 56% overall, including six in 10 Catholics, said they do not see religious liberty under attack.

This matches up with PRRI’s February poll that found 55% of Americans, including 58% of Catholics, agree that “employers should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception and birth control at no cost.”

Among those who do see their constitutional right threatened, 39%, including 61% of white evangelical Protestants, say the contraception coverage mandate was low on the list of their reasons. According to the survey of 1007 adults, conducted March 7-11:

When Americans who believe that religious liberty is being threatened today were asked to explain in their own words how religious liberty is being threatened, only 6% mention the recent debate around the contraception coverage mandate. The most frequently mentioned reasons are the removal or God and religion from the public square (23%), government interference in religion (20%), and hostility toward Christians or religion (10%).

  166. That last paragraph, starting with “When Americans”, should have been blockquoted. Blockquote doesn’t seem to be working right.

  167. What will be equally as depressing as an Obama second term is that more than likely John Kerry, a true Hillary hater,(who like Kennedy, screwed her in the primary), would most likely replace her as State. He would be well received in Europe/Muslim world and with fear in Israel as unlike Hillary ( a critic of some Israel’s policies, but at heart supports the Jewish State) he like Obama, is not friend to the Jewish state. Obama and Kerry, and you thought it couldn’t get much worse.

  168. As I remember the American Jewish people voted for O. Even now, with much more evidence about how he feels, the American Jewish community has not turned against him in large numbers. It is kind of like the women’s groups. They frauded against their own to put him in, giggled with champagne glasses in their hands about how cute he was, and then watched him put women back 25 years. Yet they don’t seem to care, and actually claim he has done something, or complain that he was handed a bad deal, a deal I might add he beg for and could start fixing on day one, NOT.

Like I have said too many time before: fool you once shame on him fool you twice shame on YOU.

    ______________

20 million could lose employer coverage under Obama health care overhaul

    By Kate Randall
    17 March 2012

As many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-sponsored coverage in 2019 under the health care legislation signed into law by President Obama in March 2010. This is the worst-case scenario set out by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) in a report released Thursday.

The CBO’s most optimistic estimate, which the federal agency says is subject to a “tremendous amount of uncertainty,” is that 3 million to 5 million could lose their employer health coverage each year from 2019 through 2022.

The new projections for loss of employee coverage are a substantial increase over last year’s estimates, when the CBO’s best prediction was that only 1 million people would lose employer-sponsored coverage.

The new study is the latest indication that the health care overhaul will result in a deterioration of health care for the majority of Americans, and not the improvement touted by the Obama administration. Working families and those in low-wage jobs stand to suffer the most from companies eliminating coverage.

As the World Socialist Web Site explained during the administration’s campaign for its health care “reform,” the scheme was the opposite of universal and quality health care for all. Drawn up in close consultation with the insurance, pharmaceutical and hospital industries as well as Wall Street, it was driven by a determination to reduce government deficits and health care costs at the expense of the working class. In addition to cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare, the government health insurance program for the elderly, the plan is designed to ration health care on class lines, depriving millions of working people of benefits on which they currently rely.

Beginning in 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will mandate individuals and families to obtain insurance or pay fines that could eventually rise to as much as 2 percent of income for all but the very poor. Those who purchase insurance on the health care “exchanges” set up under the PPACA will be at the mercy of private insurers who can increase premiums without any meaningful government oversight.

Companies with more than 50 employees that stop offering health coverage will be levied a $2,000 per employee tax penalty. The CBO projection indicates that a significant proportion of businesses will find it financially advantageous to drop coverage and pay the penalty.

The CBO’s worst-case scenario is in line with previous studies on the impact of the health care bill on employer coverage. A study released in August 2011 by human resources consultants Towers Watson showed that at least 9 percent of companies planned to drop their coverage by 2014. A study last June by the McKinsey Company showed that an even larger proportion, 30 percent, were likely to stop providing coverage when provisions of the PPACA take effect.

On the same day the CBO published its report, the Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) released a national study showing that employer-provided health coverage has already been substantially eroded as a result of the recession. Between 2007 and 2010, the share of children and working-age adults covered by employer-sponsored health insurance dropped by 10 percentage points, from 63.6 percent to 53.5 percent.

The study notes that increased unemployment was the key driver of this loss of employer coverage, with the proportion of people younger than 65 with no employed workers in the household jumping to 31.6 percent in 2010—up 10 percent. This rise in joblessness accounted for approximately three-quarters of the drop in employer-provided health coverage since 2007.

However, the HSC study found that about 20 percent of those who lost their employer-sponsored health care from 2007 to 2010 were employed but either dropped from coverage by their employer or opted out of it. The survey also showed that a steady decline in employer health coverage was well underway before the official start of the recession in December 2007, with fewer companies offering coverage and fewer employees choosing to enroll because they could not afford to pay their portion of the cost of coverage.

Employer-sponsored coverage in the US is rarely provided free of charge to the employee. Going forward, it has still not been made clear precisely what level of coverage businesses will be required to offer their workers to qualify under the Obama health care legislation.

The HSC surveyed showed that employer-provided coverage has become increasingly unaffordable for a significant share of the workforce, particularly low-wage workers. Households with incomes below 200 percent of the poverty line—$44,100 for a family of four in 2010—saw employer-sponsored health care coverage drop dramatically, from 42 percent in 2001 to only 24 percent in 2010.

In addition to low-wage workers, segments of the population seeing a disproportionate decline in coverage were young adults, people with a high school education or less, and those employed in small firms.

In 2007, among those aged 18 to 27, 70 percent lived in a household where at least one member was working and 43 percent were covered by employer-sponsored health insurance. By 2010, only 50 percent lived in working households and employer coverage had dropped to 31 percent.

People in families headed by someone with a high school education or less saw their employer health coverage decline from 47 percent in 2007 to 36 percent in 2010. For those employed by companies with less than 100 workers, employer health coverage fell from 51 percent in 2007 to 45 percent in 2010.

As the CBO report demonstrates, the numbers of those losing their employer-sponsored coverage—whether they are dumped by their employer or can no longer afford it—will rise as a result of the Obama health care overhaul. This tendency will be exacerbated by the continuing rise of overall health care costs, driven in the main by the spiraling profits of the insurance companies and giant health care providers and pharmaceuticals.

A new report by the Annals of Family Medicine, a peer-reviewed medical journal, predicts that the average cost of health insurance for American families will surpass average household income by 2033.

The report finds: “If health insurance premiums and national wages continue to grow at recent rates and the U.S. health system makes no major structural changes, the average cost of a family health insurance premium will equal 50 percent of the household income by the year 2021, and surpass the average household income by the year 2033.”

The Obama-sponsored health bill is aimed, not at improving health care provision, but cutting costs for the government and corporations. From the beginning, the Obama administration has pitched the overhaul as “deficit neutral,” making the spurious claim that hundreds of billions can be slashed from Medicare and other government programs while improving the accessibility and quality of care.

Notably, the CBO report states that under the worst-case scenario—in which 20 million people lose their employer-sponsored coverage—the federal government will actually save $13 billion relative to baseline projections. Under conditions of skyrocketing health care costs, this can only be the result of reductions in care and forcing people into cut-rate plans on the “insurance exchanges,” or into Medicaid and other government programs that are being targeted for sweeping cuts.

  171. Enter the Horse is very well written; Paula Abeles must have a writing history. I’m almost all the way through it. Really my only “criticism” is that some events she referenced with only a sentence or two, and IMO it seemed they should have been more developed. It is easy for Hillary supporters to understand, because we lived the backstory, but someone reading the book to learn something new might miss the significance of these events.

I tried to post this at dailypuma.com but couldn’t get past the captcha.

I wuz dere, as 1950democrat. TM and H44 were the only two hubs of Hillary supporters for most of early 2008 primary. Taylor was a good fighting Hillary supporter, very critical of Obama, till a few days before Hillary suspended.

When Hillary started supporting Obama, TM went along with her, and more or less threw out those of us who wanted Hillary to target Denver, ie us who became PUMAs. Actually we had been PUMAs in fact long before the term was invented.

Going along with Hillary’s switch was pardonable imo, but TM flip flopped and whiplashed too much against PUMAs, and was still insulting us recently. And putting an ugly, defeated, zombie picture of Hillary on her cover–? That will be bad for sales, serve her right. The real Hillary, laughing and thriving as SOS, puts the lie to it.

And in 2008 TM already knew Obama was a phony, she’d written enough against him before the switch.

  175. My suspicion is that more of these big donors are waiting to see who the GoP nominee is. If it is not Romney, they will go back to Obama. There is no way they will support Santorum. How difficult is that logic for the conservative voters to understand?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/obamas-high-dollar-donations-lagging/2012/03/09/gIQApeitKS_story.html

President Obama is struggling to draw in big-dollar donations, with half as many people writing large checks to his campaign than at this point four years ago.

But Obama lags behind Republican front-runner Mitt Romney in finding donors willing to give $2,000 or more — a surprising development for a sitting president, and one that could signal more worrisome financial problems heading into the general election. At this point in the last election cycle, Obama had received such large donations from more than 23,000 supporters, more than double the 11,000 who have given him that much this time. President George W. Bush had more than four times that number of big donations at this point in his reelection.

“If the United States became a party to this treaty, America would become a paradise for control freaks. Basic decisions about what you eat, about what you wear, about where you live, about how big a family you can have and about what activities you could engage in on a daily basis would be dictated by the mandates in the global constitution.”

High Treason: Obama and Pentagon Declare Congress Invalid 2012

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&src_vid=ikaajbOEWpk&annotation_id=annotation_355966&v=faRjF3-WGVA

    March 19, 2012

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s testimony asserting that the United Nations and NATO have supreme authority over the actions of the United States military, words which effectively declare Congress a ceremonial relic, have prompted Congressman Walter Jones to introduce a resolution that re-affirms such behavior as an “impeachable high crime and misdemeanor” under the Constitution.

During a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing yesterday, Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey brazenly admitted that their authority comes not from the U.S. Constitution, but that the United States is subservient to and takes its marching orders from the United Nations and NATO, international bodies over which the American people have no democratic influence.

Panetta was asked by Senator Jeff Sessions, “We spend our time worrying about the U.N., the Arab League, NATO and too little time, in my opinion, worrying about the elected representatives of the United States. As you go forward, will you consult with the United States Congress?”

The Defense Secretary responded “You know, our goal would be to seek international permission. And we would come to the Congress and inform you and determine how best to approach this, whether or not we would want to get permission from the Congress.”

Despite Sessions’ repeated efforts to get Panetta to acknowledge that the United States Congress is supreme to the likes of NATO and the UN, Panetta exalted the power of international bodies over the US legislative branch.

“I’m really baffled by the idea that somehow an international assembly provides a legal basis for the United States military to be deployed in combat,” Sessions said. “I don’t believe it’s close to being correct. They provide no legal authority. The only legal authority that’s required to deploy the United States military is of the Congress and the president and the law and the Constitution.”

In an effort to re-affirm the fact that “the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution,” Republican Congressman Walter Jones has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives. ( Bill Text)

In June last year, President Obama arrogantly expressed his hostility to the rule of law when he dismissed the need to get congressional authorization to commit the United States to a military intervention in Libya, churlishly dismissing criticism and remarking, “I don’t even have to get to the Constitutional question.” (Constitutional…)

Obama tried to legitimize his failure to obtain Congressional approval for military involvement by sending a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner in which he said the military assault was “authorized by the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council.” ( Obama to Boehner on Libya)

In boldly asserting the authority of international powers over and above the legislative branch, Panetta and Obama are openly declaring that they no longer represent the American people and instead are water carriers for a global dictatorship that has usurped the sovereignty of the United States.

  179. The only way Obama and Panetta get away with this sham is if they are not called on their treasonous activity by the House of Representatives, registering formal charges against Obama, Panetta and the Pentagon of High Crimes and Misdemeanors in the form of Impeachment proceedings.

If the House does nothing- we are screwed and our way of life will be gone forever.

Mr. President, When Should I Expect Your Call?
Posted on March 18, 2012 by Bristol Palin

    Dear President Obama,

You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next. You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way:

“One of the things I want them to do as they get older is engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on,” you said. “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”

And I totally agree your kids should be able to speak their minds and engage the culture. I look forward to seeing what good things Malia and Sasha end up doing with their lives.

But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family. He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. He’s said I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.” (In a classy move, he did this while his producers put up the cover of my book, which tells about the forgiveness and redemption I’ve found in God after my past – very public — mistakes.)

If Maher talked about Malia and Sasha that way, you’d return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I’ve always felt you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That’s why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom — you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits.

Yet I wonder if the Presidency has changed you. Now that you’re in office, it seems you’re only willing to defend certain women. You’re only willing to take a moral stand when you know your liberal supporters will stand behind you.

    But…

What if you did something radical and wildly unpopular with your base and took a stand against the denigration of all women… even if they’re just single moms? Even if they’re Republicans?

I’m not expecting your SuperPAC to return the money. You’re going to need every dime to hang on to your presidency. I’m not even really expecting a call. But would it be too much to expect a little consistency? After all, you’re President of all Americans, not just the liberals.

  183. A spokesman for Media Matters for America, which communicates directly with the White House in a weekly “strategy call,” boasted in 2010 of President Obama’s mistreatment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a forum held by Al-Jazeera.

    [snip]

Rosenberg expounded on the topic, claiming that the Obama Administration no longer considered America and Israel’s relationship more special than with any other nation:

“When Netanyahu came to Washington, no president has ever treated an Israeli prime minister as coldly as Netanyahu was treated by Obama,” Rosenberg said, with obvious joy, to what was presumably a largely Arab audience.

“Suddenly Israel today is, even though it gets what it wants to a certain extent, Israel is treated as another country, a foreign country, which makes it no different than all the other foreign countries. That is what Obama is trying to do: take Israel away from being the 51st state and make it a foreign country like Lebanon or France or any normal foreign country.”

“He has done that,” Rosenberg added. “You know, he has sent the Arab world signals from day one of where his heart is.”

  186. Poll finds Romney up 15 points, headed for Illinois ‘blowout’ win
By Daniel Strauss – 03/19/12 07:47 AM ET

A new poll says Mitt Romney is “headed for a blowout victory” in the Illinois primary on Tuesday.

According to a Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey released on Monday, Romney leads the Republican presidential field in Illinois with 45 percent of the vote, followed by Rick Santorum with 30 percent, Newt Gingrich at 12 percent and Ron Paul at 10 percent support.

Broken down by voters who live in urban, suburban and rural areas, PPP found that Romney leads among voters in suburban and urban areas and also in rural areas, where he bests Santorum by 38 percent to 36, among a constituency the former Pennsylvania senator was hoping to dominate.

The poll’s findings conflict with a number of reports that showed that Romney faced a tough fight in the primary, given a rightward shift by Illinois Republican voters. Both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal published reports Monday saying the race appeared to be closer than usual in a state that traditionally went for centrist Republican candidates.

While driving and listening to talk radio today I heard a woman who had been born in Germany, before it was divided, and her tale of the two parts. West Germany, on the other hand, was thriving.

She told the story as a cautionary tale for the idiot gen x-‘s and millenials who know nothing of a world under communism, under world war, under real dictators. If they’re not careful. that’s where this country is heading.

I can only hope those idiots stay home this year since their shiny new BO toy is now tarnished and broken.

  192. So Barry lost white women’s vote from cheating at the primary and stabbing Hillary in the back, and now……..

    ——–

President Barack Obama blamed Fox News for his political woes in a private meeting with labor leaders in 2010, saying he was “losing white males” who tune into the cable outlet and “hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7,” according to journalist David Corn’s new book, “Showdown.”

In “Showdown: The Inside Story of How Obama Fought Back Against Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party” — which hits bookstores on Tuesday — the Washington bureau chief for Mother Jones chronicles the White House from the 2010 midterm elections to the start of the 2012 campaign. The book focuses on key moments of Obama’s presidency, such as Osama bin Laden’s assassination, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the Arab Spring, the debt ceiling crisis, and the president’s dealings with Congress.

Corn writes that after the midterm elections, Obama told labor leaders in December 2010 that he held Fox partly responsible for him “losing white males.”

I have a different take on the situation pm. I think Sarah likes more socially conservative candidates than Mitt, but she does not want to toss any of the candidates under the bus, and she will endorse the person that is near winning the primary.

  201. Once Union Plants Run Out – Biden Booed In Pittsburgh

    by Ulsterman

Video shows the largest crowds gathers at a Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day parade loudly booing Vice President Joe Biden’s appearance.

A quick message to a longtime D.C. political operative confirmed my suspicions with this emailed response:

The campaign and union counterparts packed the beginning of the parade route with pro-Obama signs and union plants thinking media coverage was only going to include a quick shot of the cheering union supporters. Further along the parade route though it was just normal folks and the crowd turned ugly against the VP which of course is the same as turning ugly against Obama.

Told the VP was unaware of the booing but word got back to the campaign team and they were not happy about the media sharing footage of the booing crowds. The station manager probably got a phone call from the campaign within a minute of airing that clip. They are totally obsessed with controlling the message 24/7.

yeah. I agree with that. As another astute commenter on Althouse put it, her brand is ‘conservatism’ and she can’t afford to endorse Romney and still thrive as the conservatives idol. Ideally she can put a stop to it if she chose to. I think Obama and his minions are using her because (well, at least one of many reasons) she taunted him to a debate recently, didn’t she? And Pelosi’s daughter has a documentary out about toothless southerners? In their mind it all somehow adds up.

Hoping to have latest interview with Insider published by the end of next week.

Was given permission to share the following now with my readers:

“Watch the religious war issue ramp up again. Administration thinks they got us on this one. War on women? Think an end run is in the works though if we can get the Republican leadership to focus. Which is a damn tough task. Not too impressed with them at all. Dumb. Petty. And apparently willing to lose. Terrible group. Boehner is bad. McConnell is worse. But you go with the team that’s on the field. So that’s what we are gonna do. Upside is Obama machine over-confident big time. And I really mean big time. They got their boy hustling 24/7 for dollars. Almost every day this month already. Looks like -name deleted- efforts to slow the campaign funding from deep pocket sources is having a direct impact. Hope the old man can keep up the pressure. Concerns remain over laundering efforts though. Am now convinced that is what -name deleted- stumbled on after 2010 elections. Gut says that’s it. And gut says it got him killed for it. And that’s the group they want to hand over the DOJ to if and when Holder is given notice. This group is a nightmare a minute operation.”

A while back she said she wanted the primary to continue till more states had a chance to choose, thus she was voting for the underdog, ie Gingrich.

Some liberal commentator (Lakeoff?) said that the longer the primary goes, the more exposure the conservatives get, which is good for the conservative issues in the long run. He may be right. Mind you, that includes a GORGEOUS leather briefcase (separate) $20 set-up fee, $70 housecall to compatamize with my wifi ( you know I can’t do that without a weeks worth of effort) a 1 hour in house tutorial, a foldable keyboard (can’t do the virtual thing) and a 2 year replacement warranty.

I could have gotten away with $400 altogether for the marked down playbook ($299) and great case but I want this thing working NOW and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

It’s officially treat myself to surviving the past five years month. After this I go back to ramen noodles survival. My justification for the tablet is the laptop never worked the way I wanted, was not efficient at meetings, was too heavy and too big. The tablet comes with built in record (which I can’t WAIT to use) and built in video and camera which I’m sure won’t replace my great little point and shoot made for low light situations coz it’s too bulky.

  208. Re: Executive Order treachery

I’ve been expecting the corporatists to make a move on Alaska’s oil reserves, the 8th largest in the world, in the name of “national security”.

As you know, according to Alaska’s constitution drafted in 1959, those reserves belong to the citizens of the state. Palin battled Exxon for control of the reserves and won, which (imo) is why the corporate state and their media hate her so much.

Now the regime can “approve” the drilling for oil, as long as they and not Alaskans are not in control of it. Note where it gives the Sec. of Energy and Interior power over resources. Worse, they can screw it up and throw the disaster in the faces of those who said drill, baby, drill, creating a demand for the snake oil of green energy (“environmentalism as means of control”).

President Obama’s Top Five Energy Whoppers

    Monday, March 19, 2012

With both President Obama and his chief strategist David Axelrod attacking Newt’s $2.50 gas plan this weekend, it is worthwhile to take a look at who is really trying to sell the American people “snake oil.”

President Obama has been traveling the country making demonstrably false excuses for his failures on energy policy. To borrow a line from White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, “I won’t attribute motivations…I’ll just say that anybody who says these things doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

    “WE’RE DRILLING ALL OVER”

    FALSE:

“Do not tell me that we’re not drilling. We’re drilling all over this country. I guess there are a few spots where we’re not drilling. We’re not drilling in the National Mall. We’re not drilling at your house. I guess we could try to have, like, 200 oil rigs in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.” (March 15, 2012, Prince George’s Community College.)

    TRUE:

President Obama has blocked drilling in offshore areas totaling more than 10 times the size of Texas. He has stalled progress on an estimated one trillion barrels of oil in the American West, where the federal government owns the majority of the world’s oil shale. These off-limits supplies alone give the United States some of the largest oil reserves in the world. And no one proposes drilling in the Chesapeake Bay.

    “WE’RE USING 20%, WE HAVE 2%”

    FALSE:

“America uses more than 20 percent of the world’s oil. If we drilled every square inch of this country — so we went to your house and we went to the National Mall and we put up those rigs everywhere — we’d still have only 2 percent of the world’s known oil reserves. Let’s say we miss something — maybe it’s 3 percent instead of 2. We’re using 20; we have 2.” (March 15, 2012, Prince George’s Community College.)

    TRUE:

The President derives his “2 percent” from America’s “proven reserves,” about 20 billion barrels of oil. Proven reserves are the “quantity of energy sources estimated with reasonable certainty, from the analysis of geologic and engineering data, to be recoverable from well-established or known reservoirs with the existing equipment and under the existing operating conditions.”

The U.S. was said to have 30 billion barrels of “proven reserves” in 1980. Yet from 1980 to 2008, we produced about 75 billion barrels of oil.

No one thinks the proven reserves numbers come anywhere close to capturing our oil resources–even the U.S. government. The Energy Department estimated in 2006 that there were about 400 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil, including undiscovered resources and that does not even include oil shale. That’s 5 times the number President Obama is using. And oil shale is another 800 billion to 1 trillion barrels.

Total estimated resources exceed 1.4 trillion barrels of oil in the United States, and Goldman Sachs predicted last year that the U.S. has the potential to be the world’s largest oil-producing country by 2017. The number the President is using, about 20 billion barrels, is less than the current best estimate for the Bakken formation in North Dakota alone.

In addition, the President’s claim that “we use 20% of the world’s oil” is false and evasive. We consume 20% of the world’s oil production, not 20% of the world’s oil reserves as the President’s comparison suggests. The President is just cherry-picking numbers. The 2 and the 20 are not meaningfully related so the comparison makes no sense—it certainly doesn’t prove we’re consuming too much or that there is too little to go around.

OIL IS SOLD ON THE “WORLD MARKET”…THEREFORE PRESIDENT OBAMA’S POLICIES CAN’T INFLUENCE THE PRICE OF OIL

    FALSE:

“How much oil we produce here at home, because we only have 2 percent and we use 20, that’s not going to set the price of gas worldwide, or here in the United States. Oil is bought and sold on the world market.” (March 7, 2012, North Carolina)

HE EMPHASIZES THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN:

We can’t just allow ourselves to be held hostage to the ups and downs of the world oil market. (February 23, 2012, Miami, FL)

We’re not going to, overnight, solve the problem of world oil markets. (February 23, 2012, Miami, FL)

“Gas prices and the world oil markets right now are putting a lot of pressure on families right now.” (March 15, 2012, Prince George’s Community College.)

“When prices spike on the world market, it’s like a tax, it’s like somebody is going into your pocket.” (March 15, 2012, Prince George’s Community College.)

    TRUE:

President Obama and his allies have repeatedly suggested his policies can’t be blamed for high gasoline prices because oil is “bought and sold on the world market” over which he has no control. But prices on the “world market” are determined primarily by supply and demand, and the President is blocking development of substantial oil supplies offshore and in the American West, which together are several times the known reserves of Saudi Arabia. No one has claimed the President can “set” the price of oil, but his choice to close these areas affect the price significantly.

He could reverse his policies on these federal lands with the stroke of a pen. There is nothing special about the “world market” that would prevent that large increase in supply from putting downward pressure on price.

The President’s own actions have betrayed the knowledge that even marginal production changes have a significant effect on oil prices. When his administration asked Saudi Arabia to increase its own oil production, its goal was to lower prices in the U.S., and when he tapped the Strategic Reserve during the Arab Spring in 2011, he did so for the same reason. His claims to be powerless in the “world market” are just a bad excuse for the results of his anti—American-energy policies.

    “TAXPAYER GIVEAWAYS” TO OIL COMPANIES

    FALSE:

“What’s more, at a time when big oil companies are making more money than ever before, we’re still giving them $4 billion of your tax dollars in subsidies every year.” (President’s Weekly Address, March 17, 2012)

“I don’t think oil companies need more corporate welfare. Congress should end this taxpayer giveaway.” (President’s Weekly Address, March 3, 2012)

    TRUE:

The oil industry is not subsidized. It is subject to generic tax deductions that apply to all U.S. manufacturers. What the President proposes is specifically targeting oil companies for tax increases, not ending subsides that are given specifically to the oil industry.

Under this view, the “giveaway” is that we are not taxing oil companies for the same things we do not tax anyone else. But not taxing an activity isn’t a “subsidy” or a “taxpayer giveaway”—unless you consider the income you’re allowed to keep a “subsidy,” too.

In addition, the President wants to end rules that prevent American companies from being double-taxed on energy they produce outside the United States, which would only benefit foreign competitors at the expense of American businesses.

The industry that is highly subsidized and receives “corporate welfare” under the Obama administration is the “green” energy industry—companies like Solyndra. The vast majority of energy sector tax preferences have been for renewables or energy efficiency companies. As the Congressional Budget Office recently reported, “Between 2009 and 2012, DOE provided an estimated $4.0 billion in subsidies for about $25 billion in loans.”

If the President is genuinely concerned about high gas prices, raising taxes on oil producers will cause gasoline prices to increase and will hurt consumers—whether he thinks that’s “fair” or not.

“SOLAR AND WIND” ARE SOLUTIONS TO HIGH GAS PRICES

    FALSE:

If we’re going to take control of our energy future and can start avoiding these annual gas price spikes that happen every year … if we’re going to avoid being at the mercy of these world events, we’ve got to have a sustained, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy. Yes, oil and gas, but also wind and solar and nuclear and biofuels, and more. (February 23, 2012, Miami, FL)

    TRUE:

If 100% of American electricity today were generated by solar and wind technologies such as the President is pushing, it would have virtually no effect on the price of gasoline. Wind and solar are methods of generating electricity which we use to power our buildings. Gasoline is the fuel for our cars. We barely use oil at all to generate electricity, meaning that converting everything to wind and solar would do nothing to decrease the consumption of oil. The only circumstance under which the technologies President Obama mentions would be an answer to high gasoline prices is if wind and solar were economically competitive sources of electricity and we drove inexpensive electric cars with capacities comparable to conventional automobiles. But today that is a distant fantasy, not a solution.

  213. Obama and Romney both achieve Nixonian health care overhaul and don’t want to talk about it

    CALVIN WOODWARD AP
    March 19, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — Now here’s a tag team for the ages: Richard Nixon, Mitt Romney, Barack Obama.

The arc of history joins all three in the cause of universal health care, a goal promoted by Nixon four decades ago and advanced in laws enacted by Romney and Obama in turn. So where are the high fives between the president and the former Massachusetts governor?

The most significant health care law since Medicare gets barely a shout-out from Obama. And when Romney must talk about the law he won in Massachusetts, it’s because someone’s got him on the defensive in the Republican presidential primary campaign.

“Big health care reform turns out not to be very popular — and actually unhealthy for the candidates who did it,” says Robert Blendon, a Harvard professor who tracks public opinion on the subject. The Supreme Court will decide if the new federal health care overhaul or any part of it is unconstitutional after arguments next week. If the law that Republican opponents call “Obamacare” survives, “Romneycare” will stand in the history books as a guidepost for it, hardly the first time a state has served as a laboratory for national social policy. The federal and Massachusetts laws share much, including a requirement that individuals carry health insurance, a provision that taxpayers provide help for those who can’t afford it and protections against denial of coverage. And ObamaRomneycare shares more with Nixon’s never-implemented approach — an insurance system anchored in the private market with a hefty government safety net — than with the Clinton administration initiative that collapsed in the 1990s under the weight of its own complexity and reach.

Obama and Romney are not overly modest men, but you might think so when it comes to this subject.

Health care got two sentences in Obama’s State of the Union speech, one more than he devoted to an unfair-trade case against Chinese tires. Romney sticks to the Republican line that Obama’s law must be repealed, and gives so-so reviews of his own law. “Some things worked, some things didn’t, and some things I’d change,” he says when pressed.

Stuart Altman has been in the thick of it all as a health policy economist who advised Nixon in the 1970s and four more presidents of both parties since. He also co-chaired a Massachusetts task force on health policy in the prelude to Romney’s initiative.”Poor Romney, he has to run away from it,” Altman said, simply because Republicans have made it their refrain that “Obamacare” must go, and Romney’s plan can’t easily be divorced from it.”While Obama’s not running away from it, he’s not actively selling it, and from my point of view that’s unfortunate,” said Altman, who supports the law. “It needs a very substantial champion. It needs some substantial selling. Right now the negatives are outweighing the positives, in terms of sales, by about 100 to 1.

“In a dozen speeches or remarks in public settings last month, Obama spoke not a word about the law, even as his administration churned out press releases about its benefits. But he does sell the initiative to crowds that have already bought it: It’s a standard applause-generator in his remarks to Democratic fundraisers. The crucial difference between the Romney and Obama plans is the most obvious: One is state, the other is federal.

Romney argues that states must be free to draw up their own plans to expand health coverage and the feds have no business imposing a national solution, a point at the center of the Supreme Court case. Moreover, the federal law is designed to be paid for in part by cutting money from Medicare, which creates political opposition that states wouldn’t face. But both penalize people who don’t buy insurance and businesses that don’t offer it to employees, with exceptions for the smallest companies. They both rely on new health insurance marketplaces, called “exchanges” in the federal law, to give individuals outside the employer-supported insurance system a choice of plans. Both laws subsidize workplace-based insurance and coverage for people making well above the poverty level, not just the poorest. Romney acknowledged the similarities in a less politically charged time for him, during his 2010 book tour, and praised the individual insurance mandate that, for conservatives, has become the most contentious part of the overhaul. Speaking to the Emory University student newspaper, he said of Obama: “And some of the best features of his health care plan are like ours — such as, we do not allow insurance companies to drop people who develop illnesses, our insurance is entirely portable, virtually all of our citizens are insured and there is an individual responsibility for getting insurance.”He went on to criticize the “one-size-fits-all solution” from Washington and emphasized his preference for plans devised by each state. Romney’s law is credited with expanding coverage but not controlling costs, which it did not set out explicitly to do. Public opinion surveys in Massachusetts consistently suggest it is well regarded, and there has been no serious effort to roll it back.”It’s almost as if we’re discussing poll results from a separate country,” Blendon says. And the state law has an advantage over the federal one in winning public support: the passage of time. “In Massachusetts, in the sixth year of the program, it would be very hard to envision that we’re going to take away insurance coverage from all the people who got coverage and say let’s go back to six years ago,” Blendon said. In contrast, people have been slow to see the benefits of Obama’s law — or to experience any downside — because the bulk of it does not kick in until 2014. Nixon’s initiative was bold for its time — and even bolder now — because it contained measures that have become anathema to the Republican mainstream, including a requirement that all employers offer coverage to their workers. To his everlasting regret, Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy, his party’s broker on health care, chose not to seal a deal with Nixon along those lines, reasoning that a Democratic president down the road could achieve a single-payer government system like Canada’s.”You never know how the thing would have played out,” said Altman, an architect of Nixon’s initiative and author of a new book on the century-long struggle for expanded medical care, “Power, Politics, and Universal Health Care.” ”There was no question that the stars were aligned in 1974 for the passage of something important.

“Nixon declared, “The time is at hand this year to bring comprehensive, high-quality health care within the reach of every American. I shall propose a sweeping new program that will assure comprehensive health insurance protection to millions of Americans who cannot now obtain it or afford it.”With the Watergate scandal soon to destroy Nixon’s presidency, health care was surely a topic he preferred to talk about. It’s just not one that Romney or Obama want to talk about now.

Gunman at school shooting linked to spate of murders

Four people, including three children, have been killed after a man opened fire outside a Jewish school in the French city of Toulouse Monday. Police say the bullets came from the same gun that was used last week in the murder of three soldiers.

    By FRANCE 24 (text)

A gunman opened fire Monday morning outside a Jewish school in Toulouse in south-western France, killing four people.

A manhunt around the city and online
    By Christopher BOCKMAN in Toulouse

City Prosecutor Michel Valet said a 30-year-old man, his two sons, aged three and six, and another child aged ten who was the daughter of the school principal, were killed. A 17-year-old was also seriously injured.

Valet told reporters the gunman “shot at everything he could see, children and adults, and some children were chased into the school” before he fled the scene on a black scooter.

Relatives named the adult killed as Jonathan Sandler, a Franco-Israeli from Jerusalem who “left last September for a two-year mission to teach Jewish subjects in Toulouse”, according to AFP.

    “National tragedy”

Visiting the Ozar Hatorah school, French President Nicolas Sarkozy described the shooting as a “national tragedy” and vowed to find the killer.

“Barbarity, savagery, cruelty cannot win. Hate cannot win,” Sarkozy said. “We will find him.”

French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared the school shooting “a national tragedy”.

The president also announced a minute of silence in all French schools for Tuesday and said the state would throw its entire weight behind the investigation.

FRANCE 24 correspondent Chris Bockman reported from Toulous that the city was in “lockdown” as police searched for the gunman.

“But this is a medieval city with narrow winding roads, where it is easy for a scooter to outrun a police car,” he added.

Link to killings of French soldiers

On Monday afternoon, judicial sources confirmed that the bullets fired at the school had been fired from the same weapon used in last week’s deadly shootings in Montauban and Toulouse.

The shooting on March 15 in nearby Montauban saw two soldiers killed by a gunman riding a scooter.

The soldiers, of the 17th Parachute Engineering Regiment recently returned from operations in Afghanistan, were killed outside their barracks.

Four days before, a soldier from another airborne regiment was killed in Toulouse.

“All the soldiers who were killed were from ethnic minorities,” said Bockman. “So this is looking like a series of racist killings.”

Sarkozy had earlier said, “We are struck by the similarities between the modus operandi of today’s drama and those last week.”

It also emerged late Monday that the same scooter has been used in all three attacks.

Toulouse shootings sent shockwaves all the way to Israel

    By William EDWARDS

The French government on Monday called for heightened security at Jewish schools in France, while French soldiers have already been banned from wearing uniform outside their bases.

Meanwhile, according to French daily Le Monde, anti-terrorist prosecutors have taken over the investigations into both the school and soldiers’ shootings.

    ‘A despicable murder of Jews’

Socialist Party candidate Francois Hollande, who will be running against Sarkozy in the forthcoming presidential election, said on Monday that he was “suspending” his campaign and visiting Toulouse to show “solidarity” with the French Jewish community.

France’s Grand Rabbi stated that he was “horrified” and “stunned” by the attack and was travelling to Toulouse.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as “a despicable murder of Jews, including small children.”

“It is too early to determine exactly what the background to the murderous act was, but we certainly cannot rule out the option that it was motivated by violent and murderous anti-Semitism,” he said.

The Hill Poll: Voter gloom over President Obama’s jobs, gas, debt policies
By Elise Viebeck – 03/19/12 05:00 AM ET

Half of likely voters expect the Supreme Court to strike down President Obama’s signature healthcare law, and strong majorities see other major policies coming from the White House making life more difficult for themselves and the country, according to this week’s The Hill Poll.

The poll indicated that 49 percent of likely voters said they expect a court ruling that is unfavorable to the Affordable Care Act, while just 29 percent think it will be upheld and 22 percent aren’t sure.

On economic issues, 62 percent of voters say Obama’s policies will increase the debt, while 25 percent think they will cut it, and by a 48-percent-to-38-percent margin, voters believe those policies will increase joblessness rather than put people back to work.

On energy, 58 percent say Obama’s policies will result in gasoline prices increasing, while just 20 percent expect them to cut prices — and by a 46-percent-to-36-percent margin, voters believe they will cause the United States to become even more dependent on foreign oil.

Voters’ wide-ranging pessimism comes as gasoline prices have risen sharply, which often dampens attitudes among U.S. voters toward those in power, and as opinions remain sharply divided on the president’s healthcare law.

The measure, on which the court will hear oral arguments later this month and is expected to rule in the summer, is not expected to fare well with the court’s conservatives, though experts say it is unlikely the entire law will be undone.

The results also run contrary to indications that the economy is recovering more quickly and to other recent surveys showing the public is increasingly optimistic about its improvement.

Notably, a Fox News poll released Wednesday found that 58 percent of voters had seen signs of economic progress. And a Washington Post/ABC News poll that concluded March 10 found that 49 percent think the economy is beginning to recover, compared with 36 percent in November.

The Hill Poll showed the starkest difference of opinion on Obama’s policies between white and black voters.

On every question, a majority or plurality of white voters said they expected Obama’s policies to fail — while a majority or plurality of black voters expect them to succeed.

    • While 65 percent of whites said his policies would increase the debt, blacks by a 46-percent-to-39-percent margin said they would reduce it;

    • While 61 percent of whites said they expect gas prices to increase because of Obama’s policies, blacks by 42 percent to 29 percent expect them to drop;

    • While 50 percent of whites say unemployment will increase due to his policies, 72 percent of blacks say they think it will go down, and

    • While whites by a 47-percent-to-33-percent margin say Obama’s policies will make the United States more dependent on foreign oil imports, 68 percent of blacks say it will make the country less dependent

Barack Obama’s eldest daughter is spending her springbreak in the historic Mexican city of Oaxaca in the company of 12 friends – and 25 Secret Service agents.

    The Telegraph

The US President’s 13-year-old daughter Malia is staying at a downtown hotel in the city famous for its colonial architecture and well-preserved native American traditions, an official said.

“We are here to block access to the hotel by other people and escort the vehicles that are carrying the visitors to tourism sites,” the police official told AFP under the condition of anonymity.

Malia Obama and her friend are guarded by the Secret Service agents as well as Mexican police, the official noted.

The group, which arrived in Oaxaca Saturday, has already visited the architectural zone of Mitla and the tree of El Tule believed to be one thousand years old.

Reminds me of a clip I saw of a Japanese aquarium which raised expensive koi fish but one of the fish, a black one, developed a spinal problem and couldn’t swim to the top of the tank to eat so his friend would swim under the black fish, lift him to the top of the tank so he could feed and then bring him back to the bottom.

Without his friend (an orange fish) the black koi would have died)

That’s around the time I stopped eating fish. I’d already stopped beef and poultry.

No. The one photographer who took the picture went around scrubbing it citing copyright after he published it and others copied his. But in this case it is the kid. So I will give them some margin. #VetThePrez : Is history repeating itself?

    Obama, Rezko and Semir Sirazi

    March 19, 2012

Earlier today, I posted a blast from the past regarding the bad habit that Iraqi British billionaire international investor Nadhmi Auchi has of dispatching his legal toadies Carter-Ruck after those who dare write publicly about things previously written publicly about him — and for scrubbing the internet to remove writings mentioning traces of his documented past.

The point of departure for this exercise was Thomas Barton’s IllinoisPaytoPlay article, Semir Sirazi vs. Nadhmi Auchi: A Chicago Lawsuit Underway.

Long ago and far away, in August 2008, I wrote about the over-long wait for sentencing in the case of Antoin “Tony” Rezko, Barack Obama’s hometown political fixer and personal real estate “fairy” (to quote John Kass).

The reason I asked in the title whether history is repeating itself will soon become evident.

Here’s what I wrote back then:

“No matter how much he kicks them in the ribs, they still protect him,” one RezkoWatcher commented back on June 27, 2008.

Not so this time. Those who might think that Sen. Obama has just received a lucky break would be very, very wrong.

Today we learn from Jeff Coen at the Chicago Tribune, and others, that convicted political fixer—and Sen. Obama’s most significant campaign fund-raiser and personal real estate fairy—Antoin “Tony” Rezko, will not, as was expected, be sentenced on September 3, 2008.

Rezko was convicted in June of mail and wire fraud, aiding and abetting bribery and money laundering by a jury that had heard evidence against him since March.

Oh, no, Rezko’s sentencing date has now been pushed back to at least October 28, 2008, which is less than a week before the November 4, 2008, General Election.

Additionally, “Rezko’s attorneys, led by Joseph Duffy, now have until Sept. 19 to file motions,” Coen wrote.

The power (and memory) of a verdict in early September would have had some time to dissipate by the end of October. A verdict at the end of October will continue to roll and tumble in the media spin cycle right up to the very day when voters step into the voting booth. Add to this the possibility of numerous motions reported by the Chicago press, things look to be getting interesting.

Tony Rezko will not be forgotten quickly enough for Obama.

Yet, it seems so long ago that, on June 26, 2008, we learned from the Chicago Sun-Times that “[n]ewly unsealed documents show that prosecutors sought to call witnesses to testify” about convicted political fixer Antoin “Tony” Rezko’s ties to Sen. Obama. For whatever reason, “prosecutors opted against bringing Obama into the mix” during Rezko’s recently concluded two-month trial.

The “references to Obama were not only kept out of the trial during his run for the primary” but they were was also “kept under seal,” Natasha Korecki reported at the Chicago Sun-Times.

We still do not know why prosecutors did not bring up Obama’s name more often, particularly since U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve “ruled that they could.”

    Korecki wrote:
The filing indicates that the prosecution wanted witnesses to talk about Rezko’s prowess as an Obama fund-raiser and his influence in getting two others — Joseph Aramanda and Semir Sirazi — to donate Rezko money to Obama’s campaigns in their names. The money kicked into Obama’s campaigns came from an illicit kickback scheme. Obama has since donated that money to charity.

RW/RBO speculated it was possible that there would be more troubling days ahead for Obama — particularly since rumors had been rumbling around Springfield that either 1.) impeachment could be on the table for Blagojevich or 2.) Rezko’s prosecutors were ready to paint a target on Blagojevich’s back? Either way, speculation continues that Blagojevich is no Rezko; he may not be willing to so quickly exchange his mansion for a jail cell.

Now we can add to the mix that, in Obama’s updated speakers’ lists for the DNC convention next week, a schedule peppered with Chicago heavy weights, Blagojevich is NOT on the roster.

Blogger Bill Baar agreed back in June: “Walls are closing in and the air is getting thin for the Governor. He won’t go down alone.”

Oh, Bill, let’s so hope that you are right. It looks like Obama just managed to add salt to the festering wound at precisely the wrong time.

Thus far, Blagojevich has gone down alone. Could there be an 11th hour pardon in his future? But I digress.

Natasha Korecki added at the Chicago Sun-Times:

“This motion is not being brought for purposes of delay,” Rezko’s lawyers wrote in a court motion. “But rather to allow the defense to present its legal arguments in an efficient, complete, and thorough manner.” . . . .

“The current sentencing date is simply not realistic given the number of issues that must be briefed in the parties’ sentencing memoranda, the number of witnesses that must be prepared to testify at sentencing, and the number of letters that must be gathered from family and friends,” lawyers for Rezko wrote.

Neither the government, nor the defense have publicly disclosed the sentencing range they will argue Rezko should face. But other defendants convicted of similar crimes have been sentenced to numerous years in prison.

But what do we know about Sirazi?

During the Rezko trial, Natasha Korecki wrote May 12, 2008:

Semir Sirazi, a 10-year Rezko pal, testified Rezko paid a $66,000 debt to Sirazi through the same company that allegedly funneled kickbacks for Rezko. Rezko wired the money to Sirazi after several Rezko checks bounced. The wire came from JAA Enterprises, which is operated by Joseph Aramanda. Earlier, witness Sheldon Pekin said he diverted a $250,000 kickback to JAA after Pekin’s firm, Glencoe Capital, won a $50 million investment from the state teacher’s pension board.

And, as Korecki reported in February 2008, Rezko — who is allegedly penniless — owes Sirazi money, a lot of money:

$10 million, sought by Semir Sirazi. Gave Rezko a $1 million loan; was promised shares worth $10 million in Rezko Concessions and Rezko Enterprises if Rezko defaulted.

Rezko was finally sentenced in November 2011 to serve 10 1/2 years. By then, he had served more than three years as he had opted to go immediately to jail in June 2008, prior to sentencing.

This comment from Korecki’s article about Rezko’s sentencing is priceless:

Wearing a prison-issued bluish-green shirt, khaki pants and orange Croc-like shoes, Rezko intermittently sighed as [U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve] said she thought he lied when he once sent her a letter to say prosecutors were pressuring him to make up things about Blagojevich and Obama.

It’s doubtful prosecutors would have had to pressure him to make anything up, especially since people like once-Rezko partner Daniel Frawley and FBI informant John Thomas had captured Rezko on tape while he was under investigation. The Feds already knew the truth (although it is doubtful we ever will unless someone talks).

So. Here we go again. The same old issues about Obama’s possibly illicitly-gained campaign funds laundered through now-incarcerated-dare-we-ask-where? Tony Rezko are about to surface again in Chicago. We are months away from the national conventions, not to mention the 2012 general election.

As it ever was in 2008, the hooting and hollaring back in Chicago over another corruption trial will all have drifted off into memoryland and the stench of Obama’s political past associations will have wafted away into nothingness.

Oh! And don’t expect Obama is going to testify and nary a word will utter from Rezko’s lips — or Blagojevich’s — as it’s all hush-hush, keep it in the family these days . . . . or maybe not. Someone could sing.

Remarks With First Minister of Northern Ireland Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Martin McGuiness Before Their Meeting

    Remarks
    Hillary Rodham Clinton
    Secretary of StateTreaty Room

    Washington, DC

    March 19, 2012

SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, it’s a great pleasure to welcome back to Washington and here to the State Department the first minister and the deputy first minister from Northern Ireland. I have had the great honor of working with these gentlemen for a number of years and have been so impressed at the progress that they are making together. And we look forward to a very close and continuing relationship, and I just can’t thank you both enough for the leadership and the great example that you are setting for the people who you represent but also far beyond.
    Peter.
FIRST MINISTER ROBINSON: Well, again, we’re delighted to accept Secretary Clinton’s hospitality. She’s been a very good friend of Northern Ireland. Martin and I are particularly glad to be here because there was an election between when we last met, her and I, and we’ve come back with a reinforced mandate. We’re looking forward to giving details to the Secretary of State of the progress that we’re making in Northern Ireland. We’ve agreed our Programme for Government, our budget, our investment strategy, our economic strategy. We’ve got major reforms on the way and help for local government and in education.
So, it’s normal foreign politics and boring is good for Northern Ireland.
    SECRETARY CLINTON: That’s good.
FIRST MINISTER ROBINSON: So we’re making real progress and we look forward to continuing our discussions with the Administration.
SECRETARY CLINTON: As well, that’s exactly right.
    Martin.
DEPUTY FIRST MINISTER MCGUINESS: This is also a great opportunity for Peter and myself to express our deepest thanks and appreciation for the incredible support that we’ve received from Secretary of State Clinton and also from President Obama. They have been very staunch supporters of the peace process. And it’s great for us, in the aftermath of the election that Peter has just spoken about, to be able to come and record the fact that both the peace process and the political process has been considerably strengthened as a result of that election last year.
And as Peter has also said, we are very involved in the very important work of the economy, the great challenges that exist obviously worldwide but how that impacts on us, a very small part of the world, and the need for us to ensure that we are continuing to engage with our friends here in North America who have been incredibly supportive. The number of (inaudible) jobs that we have brought into the north from companies like the New York Stock Exchange, the Chicago Mercantile, HBO, Citigroup, Allstate – all of these have been providing much needed employment for our people, and that is something for which we are deeply grateful.
Of course, you can’t (inaudible) any of that from the very important economic investment conference that Secretary Clinton hosted here for us not too long ago. So, very important to come here and say how much we admire this woman as a leader and admire her as a true friend of peace and political progress in our part of the world.
SECRETARY CLINTON: Thanks to you both. Thank you all.

Where do you find Allah in this story? There were several mentions of witnesses but none of them reported any credit given to any particular deity.

The story says the victims were soldiers of “ethinic minorities”, and Jews. I have not heard of Muslims going after other minorities. The demographic that has historically gone after both Jews AND minorities, is Christians.

“All the soldiers who were killed were from ethnic minorities,” said Bockman. “So this is looking like a series of racist killings.”

No connection with ‘Allah’ is given in the story you posted, and two out of three of the soldiers shot WERE Muslims.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/19/toulouse-shooting-three-killed-jewish-school?newsfeed=true
The soldiers who were shot were of north African and Caribbean origin. Two of them were Muslims.
[…] The previous Sunday in a suburb of Toulouse, an off-duty member of another regiment was shot at point-blank range by a gunman on a scooter. Imad Ibn-Ziaten, 30, a marshal in the 1st Parachute Regiment, was standing next to his Suzuki 650cc motorbike outside a gym and had been wearing his helmet at the time. He was not in uniform.

The common factor here is that all the victims were of Middle Eastern descent, which would suggest an anti-immigrant motive — as with the shooter in Norway who turned out to be Norwegian, blond, blue-eyed, and a fan of Geller’s AtlasShrugged.

  248. Short Termer’s statement was rhetorical just like:

Who Obama Blames for Muslim Rumor

Barack Obama Reportedly Blames Fox News For Hurting His Popularity. He’s even written a (detailed road map*) book* explaining how this occurred.

(So, Fox News is responsible for ALL the Democrats losing re-election @ the mid-terms resulting in losing the HR?) Maybe Obama is channeling msnbc’s propaganda campaign about him in 08?

President Barack Obama told labor leaders that Fox News had convinced voters he was a Muslim, according to a new book that will be released Tuesday.

“Showdown: The Inside Story of How Obama Fought Back Against Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party,” by journalist David Corn, recounts a private meeting where Obama reportedly detailed his frustration with the outlet. (the only the news outlet George Soros was unable to buy or shut down)

Corn writes that after the midterm elections, Obama told labor leaders in December 2010 that he held Fox partly responsible for him “losing white males.”

according to David Corn @ politico:

“…Fed by Fox News, they hear Obama is a Muslim 24/7, and it begins to seep in…The Republicans have been at this for 40 years. They have new resources, but the strategy is old,” Corn recounted Obama as saying.

Obama has taken on Fox publicly as well. Last week, he took a swipe at Fox correspondent Ed Henry over a question on gas prices, and asked last year what he thought about Fox, the president told Rolling Stone, “The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number-one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.”

Obama’s communications director, Anita Dunn, engaged in even harsher criticism, saying in 2010, “The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party.”

Obama fooled voters into believing his campaign claptrap and no surprise if he looses re-elected. No worries. The UN hasn’t chosen a President for 2012. The opening is yours if you fail reelection. “Integration Funds and Radical Educational Ideology in Minnesota Schools”

    Written by Sheila Kihne.

For those of you following my research on Pacific Educational Group, you will know that when I first identified they were working in Eden Prairie Schools back in August, I asked this question:

Is there any quid pro quo going on when our Superintendent is speaking at Mr. Singleton’s conferences?

I have my answer. Yes, there is. …snip

Do you see how this works? Spend a ton of money with this company (Eden Prairie Schools is on pace to beat Hopkins in its spending with PEG,) and you will be rewarded with some resume-padding rewards and recognition. It’s very much like the Mary Kay marketing model whereby one school brings in another and the conferences are used to generate new business and new leads.

$1.2 Million (and counting)…from Minnesota Taxapyers to this one company. No accountability, no results…just radical educational ideology being spread around.

There’s a pattern to PEG’s profiteering off of public schools around the country, stay tuned for more. ”

    …end of block quote

Isn’t that cute how I fudged a block quote?

I remembered this comment from yesterday and Drudge changed that odd photo of Hillary’s to a nicer one at UN recently (I linked it up the thread). I want her to replace Ban Ki Mun in 2012 (that is if she does not get to become the president of the USA — I still have hope that she may) — Mun’s 1st term is ending and could be voted in for a second term but not guaranteed. She can clean up that organization, straighten out those men and the countries of questionable values.

  254. Interesting, Fox news is totally bias, yet commands a viewership of more than all the other networks combined. I know I watch on occasion, but it is usually with a tin ear. But then, that is how I view all the networks now. I remember a facebook liberal who stated how terrible fox was, and I very softly said, you have to watch the rest of them also.

The attack upon me was so vicious (stating things like from your profile I see you call yourself a Christian and other stuff), I had to block the person from my facebook account.

  258. Shadowfax, from Media Matters: “… Suddenly Israel today is, even though it gets what it wants to a certain extent, Israel is treated as another country, a foreign country, which makes it no different than all the other foreign countries. That is what Obama is trying to do: take Israel away from being the 51st state and make it a foreign country like Lebanon or France or any normal foreign country.”
    =======

We cried out when Obama did this with England, denying the “Special Relationship” that Dubya had touted between England and the US.

Actually, I agreed with Obama when he did that. England and the US are allies under Nato, and getting all sentimental about the Brits because they agree to invade one country or another with us is, well, it’s pretty dumb. We had other longstanding allies, namely France, who tried to stop us from doing our stunt in Iraq and our answer was to throw their wines down the sewer and rename “Freedom Fries” to show what we thought of them. I think that a few years later, a lot of Americans thought we should have listened to that other ally.

Israel, on the other hand, is not even an ally: no treaty, no understanding as to when Israel might come to our aid or we to theirs. The US has no interests in Israel, and our interests in the Middle East generally are jeopardized, not advanced, by our association with Israel.

In our own best interest, we would be better off not getting involved in Israel’s dealings with its indigenous Palestinians, those of the occupied territories, or with the surrounding countries. Our “interest” in Israel is purely sentimental. There is no rationality behind it.

This is why no rabid supporters of Netanyahu should expect any succor from the US Secretary of State versus Obama. HRC was sworn in to protect the interests of the United States, not those of any other nation. And Israel Is Another Nation. It is a nation that has created problems for itself since its inception, and has grown to take our billions of dollars in aid for granted. Israel’s supporters in the US also take this aid for granted, as if there were some hidden law that binds the US to provide endless financial and political support to some foreign state, and an ethnic state at that.

Effective immediately, airport staff will begin working with the Federal Aviation Administration to change the name to Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport.

However, the long-standing name – Adams Field – will remain when referring to the airport’s runways and air traffic, as will the airport’s official designator, KLIT.

The Commission cited the many contributions President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have made to Arkansas through more than three decades of service to the state and nation as its reason to rename the airport.

The name change coincides with the airport’s 2020 Vision Plan, which is a major construction initiative currently underway.

“Bill and Hillary Clinton not only devoted years of service to Arkansas, but have served the nation as a two-term President, and as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State – that’s a legacy of which all Arkansans can be proud,” said Jim Dailey, chairman of the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission. “The Clintons continue to have a major impact on our state and our local economy, and we believe renaming our airport in their honor is a fitting way to recognize their service and their position in Arkansas and our nation’s history.”

Although the name is changing, Adams Field – the name for the airport’s aeronautical operations – will remain the same. Adams Field is named in honor of Captain George Geyer Adams, 154th Observation Squadron, Arkansas National Guard, who was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 4, 1937. During his long tenure with the Little Rock City Council, Captain Adams was instrumental in promoting the airport’s growth.

Commissioners also noted the success of the Clinton Presidential Center and the many visitors who travel through the airport to visit the center, which is Arkansas’ No. 1 attraction for out-of-state visitors, drawing more than 2.5 million people since opening in 2004.

Approximately $2.5 billion in economic development in downtown Little Rock has occurred since President Clinton announced his plans for the center, according to Downtown Little Rock Partnership.

“The Clinton Presidential Center and Clinton Foundation have been huge assets as we work to attract visitors to our city,” said Gretchen Hall, president and chief executive officer of Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Many people already associate Little Rock and Arkansas with the Clintons, and naming the airport in their honor gives the facility an identity that will be instantly recognized nationally and internationally.”

Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport will join other high-profile airports named after former presidents and other public figures/notable leaders. These include Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, Ill.; John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City; Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich.; Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.; George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas; Dickinson Theodor Roosevelt Regional Airport in Dickinson, N.D.; Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.; Norman Mineta San Jose International Airport in San Jose, Calif; and Baltimore International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Baltimore, Md.

In the coming months, new branding and signage will appear at the airport highlighting the new name. Currently, the airport is undergoing construction of Phase 1 of the 2020 Vision Plan, which includes extensive upgrades to the ticketing lobby and baggage screening area, which will house a new, state-of-the-art in-line baggage handling system that keeps all screening equipment away from passenger areas. The $67 million, initial improvements will be completed in February 2013.

A secondary, larger phase of the 2020 Vision Plan is planned to occur over the next several years to include construction of a new terminal commons, a new 16-gate concourse, new baggage claim area, international arrival facility, inbound roadway and parking improvements. Once all construction is completed, the airport is destined to become an international airport.

  260. Hi guys- I haven’t posted here in a while, but I just wanted to let you know my novel/political thriller based on the 2008 election is available on Amazon and should be on Barnes & Noble soon. The e-book is $5.99. You might also see it advertised on Daily Caller, Town Hall, NoQuarter and other sites. If you would check it out, and spread the word to other HRC supporters I would really appreciate it. Here’s the description:

Jen, the commenter brought your book to our attention here. Here is a suggestion and you may already be doing it. How about doing a virtual book tour among all the Hillary blogs and also others? You can publicize about your book and also what went on in 2008. I am sure Hannity will have you do an interview with him. Do you have any invites or plan on doing things like that?

Thanks for putting it out there (some people can pretend it is fiction but many of us know reality was stranger than fiction).

Amelia Earhart mystery: Hillary Clinton announces U.S. support of new search

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced on Tuesday the State Department’s support of a new search to solve the mystery of aviator Amelia Earhart, whose plane went missing over the the South Pacific nearly 75 years ago.

At an event in Washington to celebrate Earhart’s legacy, Clinton and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood met with a group of scientists from the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, which is launching a new search for the wreckage of Earhart’s plane in June. Earhart and Fred Noonan disappeared on July 2, 1937, during a flight from New Guinea to Howland Island in the South Pacific. Their plane never arrived.

“We can be as optimistic, audacious as Earhart,” Clinton said. “There is great honor and possibility in the search itself.”

The group plans to search for Earhart’s Lockheed Electra plane off the remote island of Nikumaroro. The Discovery Channel is also supporting the privately funded, half-million dollar search.

The effort was inspired, in part, by a photo uncovered in 2010 that researchers say may show the wheel of Earhart’s plane in the water off the South Pacific island.

“It has been 75 years since she became first pilot, man or woman, to fly the longest equatorial route around the world,” Clinton said. “The point of all of these flights is to realize what can be done.”

The event was also intended to underscore America’s “commitment to seizing new opportunities for cooperation with Pacific neighbors founded on the United States’ long history of engagement in the Asia-Pacific region,” the State Department said.

  276. The influence of POTUS is all over this situation.
Eisenhower Family Demands Stop To Planned Memorial
…The family has said it finds the main theme of the memorial offensive to Eisenhower’s legacy as a two-term president and a Supreme Allied commander during World War II.
In a January 2012 letter to the National Capital Planning Commission, the family wrote that the childhood image risks “isolating Ike from contemporary visitors, especially those from urban industrialized parts of the country and immigrant communities. Eisenhower has as much to say to these Americans as he does to farm children from the Midwest. During the war, Eisenhower liberated not only Europe, but also the victims of the Nazi Holocaust. During his presidency, he successfully desegregated the Armed Forces of the United States and the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., to name only two of his civil rights accomplishments.”
Although the memorial design was unveiled a year ago, the opposition to it grew louder this winter after grandson David Eisenhower resigned from the Eisenhower Memorial Commission, which selected Gehry for the design in March 2010.
The National Civic Art Society, which has set up an alternative website to the memorial group’s website, outlines its opposition in direct terms. It calls the “tapestry” a “rat’s nest of tangled steel, a true maintenance nightmare.”
Eisenhower said the tapestry would collect trash and suggested the design concept is part of the “communist world” of art, adding her grandfather likely “wouldn’t understand it.”
Justin Shubow, president of the group and an attorney who litigates cases alleging fraud by the federal government, issued a 154-page report on Sunday saying the memorial’s “core of kitsch” is the solitary statue of Eisenhower depicting him “as a life-size barefoot young boy, a shrinky-dink tikey Ikey.”
“This Happy McMonument does not befit a statesman who defeated the Nazis and who preserved America’s peace and prosperity. Leadership is not child’s play,” reads the report….

    Newt in the red

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 3/20/12 12:47 PM EDT Newt Gingrich has more debt than cash on hand, according to the FEC report he will file today.

A Gingrich source notified Mike Allen that the former House speaker raised $2.62 million in February and spent $2.8 million. That left him with $1.54 million in the bank.

But Gingrich continues to carry $1.55 million in debt and the cash flow has evidently slowed. As Jonathan and Ginger reported this morning, there are already complaints in the extended Gingrich universe about unpaid bills.

Gingrich’s February fundraising total puts him at the back of the GOP pack, after Mitt Romney’s $11.5 million, Rick Santorum’s $9 million and Ron Paul’s $3.3 million.

    ———

First Lady Michelle Obama tells David Letterman that she and President Obama try to instill the values of south Chicago in their daughters.

Michelle Obama: For us, it’s the values. The thing that we try to do is make sure — the residence is on the second and the third floor of the White House. And what we want to have happen is when they get off that elevator and walk in to our residence that it feels like the south side of Chicago, the same values, the same rules, the same sense of responsibility.

Because, of course the stuff is different. There are butlers walking around, you know? We didn’t have that, you know. So, Barack and I really do work hard to, you know, figure out how you create those values in this other world that we know nothing about and we, you know, try to make sure the kids have chores to do.

It’s how they talk to us, it’s how they talk to other people, you know. It’s kindness, it’s empathy, it’s respect. Those are the things that we can give them when we remind them that is more important than anything that they’ll ever had. And then we take their stuff away if they don’t do it. ‘Give me that.’

  298. Obama campaign says ‘white first lady’ joke was ‘inappropriate’
By Justin Sink – 03/20/12 12:29 PM ET

A spokeswoman for first lady Michelle Obama said a racially tinged joke by actor Robert De Niro at a campaign fundraiser Monday night was “inappropriate,” after Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich demanded the White House apologize.

“We believe the joke was inappropriate,” spokeswoman Olivia Alair said in a statement.

While introducing the first lady at a New York City fundraiser, De Niro jokingly suggested that America isn’t “ready for a white first lady.”
“Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now, do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?” De Niro said, to laughter from the crowd. When someone in the audience yelled, “No!” De Niro continued, “Too soon, right?”

But Gingrich took offense during a campaign stop in Shreveport, La., according to CNN.

“I do want to say one thing, both on behalf of my wife and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney — I think that Robert De Niro’s wrong,” Gingrich said. “I think the country is ready for a new first lady, and he doesn’t have to describe it in racial terms.”

“Let me tell you something, if you’re looking for free stuff that you don’t have to pay for, vote for the other guy,” Romney told the student. “That’s what he’s all about.”

Romney continued, “Politicians get up and promise you all kinds of free stuff, more and more stuff that you won’t have to pay for and you know what? We get elected that way, in many cases, politicians do, that’s not something I subscribe to.

Romney insisted on telling the truth to voters and “demand sacrifices” from people.

Job seekers getting asked for Facebook passwords

SEATTLE (AP) – When Justin Bassett interviewed for a new job, he expected the usual questions about experience and references. So he was astonished when the interviewer asked for something else: his Facebook username and password.

Bassett, a New York City statistician, had just finished answering a few character questions when the interviewer turned to her computer to search for his Facebook page. But she couldn’t see his private profile. She turned back and asked him to hand over his login information.

Bassett refused and withdrew his application, saying he didn’t want to work for a company that would seek such personal information. But as the job market steadily improves, other job candidates are confronting the same question from prospective employers, and some of them cannot afford to say no.

In their efforts to vet applicants, some companies and government agencies are going beyond merely glancing at a person’s social networking profiles and instead asking to log in as the user to have a look around.

“It’s akin to requiring someone’s house keys,” said Orin Kerr, a George Washington University law professor and former federal prosecutor who calls it “an egregious privacy violation.”

Questions have been raised about the legality of the practice, which is also the focus of proposed legislation in Illinois and Maryland that would forbid public agencies from asking for access to social networks.

Since the rise of social networking, it has become common for managers to review publically available Facebook profiles, Twitter accounts and other sites to learn more about job candidates. But many users, especially on Facebook, have their profiles set to private, making them available only to selected people or certain networks.

Companies that don’t ask for passwords have taken other steps _ such as asking applicants to friend human resource managers or to log in to a company computer during an interview. Once employed, some workers have been required to sign non-disparagement agreements that ban them from talking negatively about an employer on social media.

Asking for a candidate’s password is more prevalent among public agencies, especially those seeking to fill law enforcement positions such as police officers or 911 dispatchers.

Back in 2010, Robert Collins was returning to his job as a security guard at the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services after taking a leave following his mother’s death. During a reinstatement interview, he was asked for his login and password, purportedly so the agency could check for any gang affiliations. He was stunned by the request but complied.

“I needed my job to feed my family. I had to,” he recalled,

Little Rock airport renamed in honor of Bill and Hillary Clinton

At Little Rock National Airport, it’s two for the price of one. No, we’re not talking about airfares, but Clintons.

The Arkansas capital’s Municipal Airport Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to rename the airport in honor of the former president and the current secretary of State, a rare twin billing for the state’s former first couple.

The change won’t be official until the Federal Aviation Administration signs off. Adams Field, the designation for the airport’s aeronautical operations, will remain the same.

“Bill and Hillary Clinton not only devoted years of service to Arkansas, but have served the nation as a two-term President, and as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State — that’s a legacy of which all Arkansans can be proud,” Jim Dailey, chairman of the airport commission, said in a statement. “The Clintons continue to have a major impact on our state and our local economy, and we believe renaming our airport in their honor is a fitting way to recognize their service and their position in Arkansas and our nation’s history.”

The commission noted in its decision the draw that Bill Clinton’s presidential library in Little Rock has become, as well as the economic development it spurred in the city’s downtown. The Clinton Library is the state’s top attraction for out-of-state visitors.

The former president released a statement saying that he and his wife “are humbled” by the decision.

“We are grateful for this honor and for all that the people of Arkansas have done for us. And we look forward to many happy landings at the airport in the years ahead,” he said.

Presidents Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Theodore Roosevelt have airports named in their honor. No airport bears the name of a former first lady, but Washington’s Dulles Airport is named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles.

  310. Sweaters is unraveling if he thinks he can win more on social issues than the economy and unemployment.

    It’s the ……stupid!

  311. Listening to Brett Bair(?)’s panel was depressing. Newt’s delegates are going to Sweaters it seems. Do they really think Santorum can win against Obama? They are fools.

  312. The Santorium headline was good for business if you want to sell headlines, but it is not the whole of his arugument….typical for news agencies, huh? Listen to the whole clip to get the meaning. I hate it when headlines are written so that those skimming will jump to the wrong conclusions and then no one can convince them otherwise and they use the headline as a talking point. The stupid people who are fools are not going to compromise their conservative principles….been saying that for a long time. 2008 and McCain redux is what I predict if Mythical Mitts gets the nom.

    “Sweaters is unraveling”

Haha, you are on FIRE today!!

I heard sweaters say it was all about “freedom”, but he is doing a slow-witted sales job on that point – it’s coming off as just religious freedom he’s interested in (and maybe he is, I dunno). I think it IS about freedom, but I don’t think he’s got the vision for it.

  314. This is why I reluctantly prefer sweaters to mittens (while remaining ABO):

“Romney released a list of the 63 lawyers on his Justice Advisory Committee, designed to advise his presidential campaign on legal policy and in some cases provide legal counsel. Its most famous name: former Ronald Reagan Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork, whose nomination was voted down by the Senate.

But the less banner names include at least 10 lawyers who worked in and around the Bush White House, including Bush Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Prime among them is Steven Bradbury, one of 13 “prominent lawyers” singled out on the list by Romney’s campaign. Bradbury led the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel from 2005 to 2009 and signed three 2005 memos reassuring the CIA and the DOJ that techniques like waterboarding were legal even when combined with another harsh technique.”

    Chertoff? Bork? Bradbury?

  315. It’s like the homeless are our new pet project/children this year. They have to be protected from “bad” people that try to save them. I don’t know if you are all aware but here in Austin we have SXSW, which has grown enormously. It is a music/film celebration and hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world come each year to hear the music, attend the big parties, which are very exclusive, with the big names playing like Springsteen, Pdiddy. Anyway, one company paid homeless people to be homeless hotspots for WiFi. Oh my God, people were so upset that the homeless were being paid to do something. All they had to do was sit in a place with a sign and get paid $20/day plus tips. The homeless who did it loved it, felt they were doing a job, contributing, but oh the elite, couldn’t believe the abuse.

Well Mayor Bloomberg , who has a history of food Nazi behavior, is at it again. When will these freaking people get the hell out of our lives?

Michael Bloomberg Refuses Donations of Food for the Homeless as Too High In Salt, Fat
    —Ace

I’m beginning to think that maybe we don’t have a genuine problem with real poverty, or something.

Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.
Glenn Richter arrived at a West Side synagogue on Monday to collect surplus bagels — fresh nutritious bagels — to donate to the poor. However, under a new edict from Bloomberg’s food police he can no longer donate the food to city homeless shelters.

It’s the “no bagels for you” edict.

“I can’t give you something that’s a supplement to the food you already have? Sorry that’s wrong,” Richter said.

Apparently the edict requires agencies to turn away food if they don’t have full information on its nutrition content. A thoroughly stupid bit of bureaucratic idiocy, as usual. Bloomberg himself (noted to be a “salt-a-holic”) appears embarrassed by the nanny state he’s created and suggests maybe it’s not such a good edict.
