Obama’s Cairo II Speech Flim-Flam A Treacherous Pearl Harbor Style Stab At Israel

Before it happened Barack Obama’s speech was dismissed as a reset/redo of his failed Cairo speech “to the Muslim world.” But that is false. The “Cairo II” speech at the State Department was a series of additional stabs of treachery against Israel and was not just a simple redo of the Cairo speech disaster.

When Barack Obama went to Cairo in 2009 he deliberately snubbed Israel as he hopped from Arab capital to Muslim capital bowing and scraping before potentates. Obama equated American slavery with Israel’s treatment of Palestinians too. At the time we quoted Ricki Lieberman:

“Let’s be really honest, Mr. President. The obstacle to peace is the lack of a critical mass of Arabs who will recognize Israel as a Jewish state, and work for a Palestinian state which both guarantees Israel’s security and benefits from the regional prosperity that will accompany peaceful co-existence. To acheive [sic] peace, this is where the real work needs to be done. Until this happens, the rest is a distraction…”

We noted then how President Bill Clinton tried to bring about, with the full cooperation of Israel, a Palestinian state only to be rebuffed by the Palestinian side. The Palestinians, almost as proof of their bad faith tactics, only accepted the Clinton proposal after it was too late. A few days after the Obama Cairo speech we again addressed the Obama treachery and placed it in historical terms, namely the Sudetenland.

To understand what happened yesterday is to ask where it happened. Unlike the exotic locale of the first Obama treachery speech yesterday’s treacheries happened at the State Department. Why the State Department? One aim was to attempt to squash any rebellion within the State Department and send the message to Israel and Arab/Muslim states that Obama is directing the State Department and that there will be no “good cop” Hillary that will be able to come to the rescue. Obama knows and fears Hillary will defend Israel and Obama does not want anyone to attempt to get Hillary on board a sub rosa “help Israel” campaign.

The New York Times reports today that before the speech Prime Minister Netanyahu called Hillary Clinton before the speech and he was “furious”:

“As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel heads to the White House on Friday for the seventh meeting since President Obama took office, the two men are facing a turning point in a relationship that has never been warm.

By all accounts, they do not trust each other. President Obama has told aides and allies that he does not believe that Mr. Netanyahu will ever be willing to make the kind of big concessions that will lead to a peace deal.

For his part, Mr. Netanyahu has complained that Mr. Obama has pushed Israel too far — a point driven home during a furious phone call with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday morning, just hours before Mr. Obama’s speech, during which the prime minister reacted angrily to the president’s plan to endorse Israel’s pre-1967 borders for a future Palestinian state.”

The news account relates that Barack Obama intends to stab Israel in the back this September by not helping to get European allies to reject a United Nations resolution unilaterally establishing a Palestinian state. The Times notes that Obama “the son of a Muslim man from Kenya whose introduction to the Arab-Israeli conflict was initially framed by discussions with pro-Palestinian academics.”

Barack Obama knows that Israel and her supporters wisely do not trust him and he does not want a back door communication with Hillary Clinton by those supporters. So Obama went to the State Department to attempt to create the impression that Hillary Clinton is on board with his treachery. [We’ll discuss Hillary in our promised forthcoming article.]

Tough talking Donald Trump might be gone from the political scene but Benyamin Netanyahu has long known that the only way to deal with a thug is to fight back strongly. When Barack Obama tried to thug Israel in 2009 by demanding no more settlements Netanyahu slapped Obama down. Barack Obama snubbed Netanyahu by not allowing photographs of Netanyahu in the Oval Office, as is normal. Barack Obama continues his thuggery and treacheries.

This year, Netanyahu received word that Barack Obama planned new treacheries in a speech – the one from yesterday. Netanyahu was invited by Republicans to speak to before a joint session of Congress in order to lay out his plans for Middle East peace. Barack Obama, in order to humiliate Netanyahu then scheduled his treachery speech for yesterday (“So White House officials timed Mr. Obama’s speech on Thursday to make sure he went first.”)

Somehow Barack Obama and his thugs believe they can terrorize Israel into self-destruction. Unlike Barack Obama in his Pearl Harbor style attack, Netanyahu appropriately warned Barack Obama that there would be a response to Obama’s speech – today. The response from Netanyahu came today and it was a strong one, worthy of a strong leader of a free nation:

“Normally these Oval Office grip-and-grins begin with a few minutes of blah-blah from the president about America’s enduring bond with the other leader’s country, followed by a minute or so from that leader about the “productive discussion” they just had, and that’s it. Not this time: Netanyahu takes off here for a good seven minutes, parts of which are so cutting — the conclusion about history not giving the Jewish people another chance is simply devastating — that it’s hard to believe it was extemporaneous. In fact, by the end he’s facing Obama and addressing him personally, just to add to the theater. Bibi knew this would be his golden opportunity to pay Obama back for yesterday’s speech, and darned if he didn’t seize it. It’s riveting. O was probably completely blindsided by it too, but no doubt realized quickly that this little history lesson would soon go viral in the media and online. Hopefully no meaningful agreements were reached earlier in their private meeting, because if they were, you can forget about ‘em now.”

Prime Minister Netanhahu and every supporter of Israel must understand that Obama is an enemy of Israel. In 2009 after the Cairo speech we wrote:

“The Jew baiting is taking place in the context of Barack Obama’s speech last week when he parroted Arab theories against Israel, as Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu prepares to deliver a response speech on Sunday, and as Iran votes on Friday.”

Not much has changed from back then. Only the locale of the treachery from Barack Obama is different. Again, why did Obama speak at the State Department yesterda? Why didn’t Barack Obama go on another of his expensive traveling extravaganzas and speak to Muslims and Arabs in a Muslim or Arab country? The answer is this was not really a speech “to the Muslim world”, as advertised, this was a Pearl Harbor style attack on Israel.

Before the speech Obama Israel haters made repeated denials that the 1967 borders language was included in the text of the speech by Barack Obama. The speech delivered the sneaky treachery of what all the denials denied. While Prime Minister Netanyahu prepared for diplomatic talks Barack Obama scheduled a sneak attack.

Barack Obama did not go to the Middle East to talk to Muslims because he is not interested in upsetting Arabs or Muslims. Barack Obama did not go to the Middle East for his talk because his interest was to attack Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Barack Obama’s speech must be seen in the same context as speeches from Muslims and Arab leaders who say one thing in Arabic and another thing entirely when they communicate in English.

What should Obama have said and where? Barack Obama should have gone to a Muslim and Arab country and told them outright that the problems in their societies are of their own making. Their problems are not due to the Jews or the United States or anyone else. Barack Obama should have told the Muslim and Arab world that their fates are in their own hands. They can author an Arab Spring or an Arab Winter. Stop blaming others for your own deficiencies. Stop blaming Israel. Stop blaming the United States. An American president concerned about American interests would have told the Muslim and Arab world that we are allied with Israel and if they want progress they need to stop trying to destroy Israel and put all efforts to building up their own societies. That’s what a president of the United States should have said.

Those who say they want peace and pressure Israel to take measures that would destroy Israel would be wise to keep their counsel to themselves or to say things in secret. Israel does not need advice, Israel needs a friend. Those who say they want peace but who unwittingly, or wittingly, destroy Israel should understand: If the Muslim and Arab worlds want peace they must reform themselves and stop blaming others for their circumstances. If the Muslim and Arab worlds want peace they must stop their hatred of Jews and Christians (and they can never be trusted with control over Christian or Jewish sites – not with the history of pissing inside the Church of the Nativity.)

The United States has known, until treacherous Barack Obama, that you can only negotiate in good faith. When the United States violated Pakistan sovereignty it did so partly because Pakistan could not be trusted to help capture Osama Bin Laden. The United States went into Pakistan to kill Bin Laden but somehow Israel is supposed to ignore its national security interests. Israel will do what it needs to do to survive and the United States should make it clear to Muslims, Arabs, and Europeans that America stands with Israel. That’s how to get peace.

The way to a lasting peace is to declare unwavering American support for Israel. Anything less allows Muslims and Arabs who hate Israel to delude themselves that the path to peace is the destruction of Israel by separating it from the United States. Enemies of Israel, like Hamas, must be destroyed not negotiated with. Enemies of Israel, like Barack Obama, must be held to account.

America must stand side by side with Israel.

Some Jewish Democrats in Congress are carefully distancing themselves from President Barack Obama’s Thursday Middle East speech, criticizing his call for a two-state solution that would shrink Israel back to borders based on those it had before the “Six Day War” in 1967.

Many others have kept their powder dry, suggesting that they neither want to give Obama’s remarks cover nor publicly excoriate him. [snip]

The disagreement between Obama and Netanyahu puts Jewish Democrats in a tough spot, forced to pick between a president of their own party and a country that typically wins their unflagging support. While most have chosen not to speak publicly on the matter, the few who did mostly sided with Israel’s leader.

“A two-state solution agreed upon by the Israelis and Palestinians should be negotiated through direct talks, but it is important to remember that a full return to the 1967 borders will be indefensible for Israel and that talking with terrorists who want to destroy Israel is a non-starter,” Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.) said in a statement issued Friday morning.

Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) said the president “omitted or glossed over several themes,” and noted that “such territorial adjustments would be very significant so that Israel would no longer be nine miles wide at its narrowest point.”

And Rep. Steve Israel, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, called the reference to the 1967 borders “gratuitous” in an interview with his hometown paper, Long Island’s Newsday.

While land swaps are widely considered a central tenet of any long-lasting peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians, many supporters of Israel take issue with the president embracing a particular demarcation before any negotiation has taken place and, specifically, a set of 1967 borders that they say would be impossible to implement without leaving Israel more susceptible to attack.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), whose wife is a top adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, opened up on the president on Twitter Thursday. “Remind me again, why did the ‘67 borders change? #IsraelAttacked.”

While some Jewish Democrats gave Obama a bit of grace period, Republicans of all religious persuasions criticized his tack in a series of scathing statements on Thursday and Friday.

“I strongly disagree with the President on the notion that somehow the ‘67 lines should be a starting point for any discussion having to do with the Arab-Israeli conflict,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress, told CNN.

The president did get one significant vote of confidence from the Jewish contingent in Congress, that of Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

    Video at link.

The following is a transcript from Tuesday’s White House briefing with press secretary Jay Carney:

Q Jay, can you speak to this report that the President — there’s a draft of the speech floating around that says the President will urge Israel to withdraw to the pre-1967 borders –

MR. CARNEY: Yes, I can. That report is completely false. We have not shared a draft of the speech with anyone outside of the administration.

Q Will he talk about, for example, the 1967 borders?

MR. CARNEY: I don’t want to get into the specifics of his discussion at all. But I can tell you that no one outside of this administration has been shown a draft of the speech.

Q So that report is inaccurate in that it says that there’s a draft copy of the speech.

MR. CARNEY: Well, a report that says that it has specifics about a speech based on a draft that doesn’t exist — I don’t have any comment on the content of a draft that doesn’t exist, because no draft has been shared with anyone outside of the administration.

  3. That clip of Netanyahu shows what true mastery is. At the end, when he spoke about the Jews 4,000 year history, about the massacres, the pogroms, the bloodshed, and when he said Israel won’t have a second chance showed a real leader in action.

You just felt he would do anything in the world to protect his people, a sense we Americans seldom get from BO. And if he is forced to say something generous about Americans it’s clear he doesn’t mean it – or believe it.

BO looked like he wanted to strangle the armchair with one hand and rip his jaw off with the other.

That vise-like grip he had on his face was a tell.

  4. Basil, never seen anything like it, a President lectured on reality and boy did Bibi make him look an inch tall. Obama take note, you got talked down too by a real leader, and that poor armchair must have finger dents in it.

  5. That video of Netanyahu was riveting. Good for him. Did you see Obummer clutch the chair with his left hand.. I wish they showed more of of his face and his expression.

  6. Damn! I just watched Bibi’s takedown of Waffles, wow is all I can say, and go Bibi! this is the man who is the real leader of the free world.

and then Waffles goes to the CIA to thank them for helping him capture Bin Laden. And no I am not kidding, that is what the imbecile actually said today:

“I put my bet on you,” he said. “Now the whole world knows that that faith in you was justified.””

See? HE puts faith in them, and HE is reason why CIA and the US military worked for years to get Bin Laden. We have a full blow dictator President now, all about ME, ME, I, I.

  7. Jewish Democrats like Ed Koch may be uncomfortable with Obama’s anti-Israel stance, but they’ll fall back in line behind the Anointed One during the 2012 elections like the Jews that assisted the Germans against other Jews during the occupation of Warsaw in WWII.

SLAM!! Bibi Diplomatically “Slaps” Obama During White House Press Op

It was a stunning tableau, a President of the United States sitting back and glaring while the Prime Minister of Israel pushed back against the words made by the POTUS yesterday. Both parties made their presentations in friendly diplomatic words, but Netanyahu gave the President a “friendly” dressing down, his words were instructive and firm. You could tell by the body language that Bibi was letting the President know that he was not going to give in, and Obama was very angry.

  9. Bibi looked like he was educating O…and frankly, O looked like he was being tortured…for O to have to sit there and be quiet and LISTEN to someone else talk was in effect, torture, for O…for once O was being lectured…

pm317…I saw a few close ups of O’s face on various clips on TV and he was fuming…he must be throwing furniture tonight…

this is the PBS clip of O & Bibi…for the first 7 minutes O drones on…with the usual, me, I, my speech, my admin, Bibi has been here 7 times during my admin (little dig there), etc…O loves to hear himself talk…no doubt about it…he just drags on…

…and then the adult takes over…

  12. BRAVO! BRAVO Admin!

“not really a speech “to the Muslim world”, as advertised, this was a Pearl Harbor style attack on Israel.”

This little, small, petulant liar of a man is a disgrace to this nation and to the office he stole.

  13. “So Obama went to the State Department to attempt to create the impression that Hillary Clinton is on board with his treachery. ”

this was SO OVER THE TOP obvious. I cannot believe HRC thinks as he does. It’s not good enough that he stole her position, now he steals her turf, and he will destroy her with himself given the chance.

I look forward to your insight, Admin. If she stays, she loses.

  14. American Gal…I can believe that T was threatened…besides the ridicule they were already starting to go after his businesses…his school, his real estate, etc…they was an effort coming together to destroy his brand and T personally…

…i thought that ‘insider’ piece was interesting when he mentions that no one clapped for O at the State Dept when he mentioned capturing OBL…no one clapped on HC’s turf because they knew what he was up to…and with no one clapping O was thrown off…expecting applause…ha!

yes, he is a small, petulant imposter…he has been winging his whole presidency in generalities…

White House Insider Trump was Threatened

    http://socyberty.com/history/white-house-insider-trump-was-threatened/
    ____________________

Yes, when I posted the link to the NY AG’s investigation into Trump U- I knew Obama’s thugs had threatened to destroy the Univ and Trump. Attacking his credibility as a good businessman. Trump has always been high on education and for all intents and purposes this is his ‘baby’ being attacked. (I attended his seminar in Boston when he appeared with Bob Kiyosaki a few years ago)

What is amazing to me is Trump’s rapid response to the threat- The allegations must have been shovel ready heaped on with some mighty heavy equipment. That tells me, an outcome to the whole investigation had been forecasted to Trump up front. His reputation and his very livelihood would be at stake if he pursued the nomination.

It just didn’t make sense that Trump would turn for the Big Money
nbc was offering him to forego running. Money is not his driver… “It’s the Art of Making the Deal” that drives him. And his creating a school for the advancement of business and entrepreneurship.

Maybe this was not his time. He underestimated how vicious this political game really is- We know- we lived through the routing of Hillary in 08′- a lesson we will never forget.

  16. Thanks for posting the link to the WhiteHouse Insider AmericanGirl!!!

    ———-Here is the story.

As recently as a month ago, Donald Trump sat atop the polls as a possible GOP candidate for president. This past week he abruptly announced he wasn’t running. What happened?

Real estate billionaire Donald Trump, via his often bombastic style and dedication to the birth certificate controversy surrounding President Barack Obama, became a GOP presidential candidate frontrunner seemingly overnight, with an April 15th Public Policy Poll showing him holding the outright lead of potential Republican candidates.

    That was then.

Just a month later, Donald Trump released a brief statement indicating he would not be running for President of the United States in 2012. An excerpt of that statement is as follows:

“This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country,” Trump said in the statement. “I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly.”

Reports have since circulated that Trump was merely using the platform of presidential campaign politics as leverage for his then-ongoing negotiations with NBC. The network was desperate to get Mr. Trump to remain on with the successful and lucrative television show. Rumors are now circulating the Trump was offered some $60 million to renew his NBC contract. Was money then the sole motivation for Donald Trump backing away from a run for president?

Not so says a longtime political D.C. Insider. When questioned why Donald Trump hastily withdrew from seeking the GOP nomination, the following message was received:

Donald Trump was very-very serious about making a legitimate run for president. Every indication I had received prior to his announcement he would not run pointed to that fact. He had initiated some exploratory work in key primary states, he had met with a number of party donors to assure them of his conservative standing…anyone who tries to spin this as anything less than a man looking seriously at running for president does not know the facts on the ground. This guy was, until very recently, giving strong hints that he wanted to run.

I would also add that Donald Trump scared the hell out of the Obama Democrats. I know this for a fact. That was the primary motivation for the significant onslaught leveled against Mr. Trump by both the media and the Obama administration, including President Obama himself. I do not believe those attacks to have been the primary motivation for Mr. Trump’s removing himself from consideration for the GOP nomination though. I was told he fully expected those attacks, though he was likely surprised by just how ferocious they actually became.

Mr. Trump also scared the hell out of the establishment Republicans. Very similar in fact to how they view Sarah Palin and others associated closely with the Tea Party movement. The GOP power brokers want a candidate they can control. Palin, Trump, etc. are too independent for their comfort. They have tapped Romney as the chosen one at this time. His path is now being cleared to be the nominee. I believe that was a significant motivator for Huckabee declaring he would not run. He had two meetings I know of with GOP donor reps and was told somewhat aggressively to stand down for 2012.

Back to Trump. The NBC contract was worth what? $40 or $50 million to him? This is a guy worth over a billion dollars. Do you really think $50 million is going to be a deciding factor in this situation? No way. It was something else. Up until yesterday I thought it was perhaps the scrutiny of a national campaign. The fatigue factor of crisscrossing the country. The required ass kissing of the GOP establishment and certain media figures. There are a hell of a lot of reasons to not want to run for president. As I said, up until yesterday that is what I thought. Yesterday though I was informed that Mr. Trump had been threatened in such a way that his business was endangered. I don’t have the details of this threat, but it was apparently enough to cause Donald Trump to send out his statement to not run within hours of receiving the threat. He does not strike me as a man who scares easily, so whatever that threat was, it must have been substantive enough to do just that. I have since attempted to follow up on this scenario, but either nobody else knows of it, or they are not willing to speak of it. And now the original source of this information is not speaking about it as well.

Having said all of that, I will admit some disappointment at Mr. Trump deciding not to run for president. I believed him to be a legitimate candidate with the potential to defeat Barack Obama in 2012. He provided a much needed aggression to the reality that is the Obama White House. A reality that is destroying this country. And as for the birther issue, it’s not over. Far from it. (I have been informed to look beyond that piece of paper. You got me following this issue now, and I must admit, things are getting interesting) The GOP should not make mention of it as much as did Mr. Trump, but allow it to now develop on its own. If and when it does resolve itself, the country will owe Mr. Trump a great deal of gratitude for helping to create the environment to allow that to happen. Don’t pin all your hopes on this issue though. It may never see the full light of day, and we don’t need it. But it sure as hell is interesting, I’ll give you that.

And as for Mitt Romney, he is not my first choice. Far from it. But given a choice between him or Barack Obama, I will be supporting Romney if in fact he becomes the GOP nominee. And by that I mean to say my full support in every way possible, and I have others willing and capable of doing so as well. Our primary goal above all else for the next two years is working to secure the defeat of Barack Obama.

Hope that answers your question and then some. As indicated before, continue to watch for news surrounding Eric Holder. Be patient though. It appears Congressional Republicans are now positioning openly against Obama’s AG. That is a very good sign. I cannot stress that enough as it clearly signals things are about to get very difficult for the Obama White House. Without the Holder firewall in place, Valerie Jarrett is far more vulnerable, and if she is vulnerable, so too is President Obama and then it is game-on and we are ready. Very ready.

Also watch for Hillary news. The split that has always existed between she and Obama could become more widely known. And then some. The campaign debt bribe can only keep up the ruse for so long before one side feels the obligations have been met.

Lastly, I don’t have the time to express all of my anger regarding the president’s Middle East speech from yesterday. I will simply say that I share your outrage. There is something from that speech that most seem to have missed though. When President Obama made mention of killing Bin Laden, he clearly pauses to wait for applause from the State Department personnel listening to the speech. No one applauded. It actually threw the president off his pace just a bit. Watch his eyes dart about for a second. I now know that look well. He is panicked. That is how much he depends on people applauding on cue. This time it didn’t happen. Not on Hillary Clinton’s stage.

You already know why. Because Barack Obama didn’t have a f–king thing to do with the Bin Laden mission, and you can damn well bet Hillary Clinton’s State Department knows that. They gave the victory over to Obama. “Here you go Mr. President. Run with it. We don’t care. We just took care of business because you couldn’t make up your damn mind what to do. Now you want to try and get political points for something you didn’t do? Fine. We don’t care. We did our job and that is what matters.” That pretty much sums up how that part of it went down.

I am working on a more complete update for you soon. Some rather significant developments are forming. WH has really clamped down again on information getting out, but that will resolve itself again soon.

  17. Tony – I’m not sure something like that is limited to Jews… or even to bots, as we often say…

I think the usual tendency is for people to grump about their own party’s candidate or president, but in the end they vote for them. We’re all (democrats and republicans) strongly taught that the two sides are diametrically opposed, and that our side is right, and the other is evil. So even if we’re unhappy with our “person”, in the end we vote for them.

Those of us who became independent (whether officially or unofficially) after the disgrace of the 2008 primaries are a different breed, I think. We’ve seen how the politicians of both parties seem more beholden to the corporate paymasters than to us, and we’ve seen how the politicians of both parties try to manipulate us to make us think they’re so different – when many of the “major differences” are just used as wedge issues and are never really acted upon.

Seeing the lying and cheating employed in 2008 by the “good party” totally changed my worldview, and I think that’s true for many of us. Many of us voted for a republican for the first time ever – something we would have never, ever, ever even considered in the past.

I think we’re all different than everybody else – feeling free to evaluate the politicians of both parties and not feeling that we HAVE to vote for whomever “our side” says we have to vote for. I think for most of us, what we project that Jewish people will do, and what we’ve already seen bots do, is something we used to do as well – in other words, always voting party, no matter how unhappy we are with them.

I think it’s we who are different, and we’re the minority. Anyway, that’s how I see it lol

  18. This is not where I first saw the news about lack of applause to Obummer’s speech yesterday (can’t remember where I saw it.) But Tominpaine echos the WH insider’s version of no applause. Also saw the first bit of Hillary talking and then Obummer taking over in that overly familiar way and saying something about she racked million miles and the camera panned over audience faces and I didn’t even see the slightest smile. I thought that threw him off a bit.

    http://tominpaine.blogspot.com/2011/05/obamas-middle-east-speech-sound-of-one.html

While pausing frequently after what he thought would be applause lines, waiting for applause that never came, especially the long pause after mentioning once again that Bin Laden had been killed and getting no response, President Obama made his much touted speech on the Middle East and the reaction, both in and out of the room and around the world was not the applause he was looking for but the sound of one hand clapping…

  19. My firtst reaction to the Trump news was that he has been threatened. The decision was too sudden and incomprehensibe.
O is so evil amd I am so shocked that so many people don’t see it.

  20. If they have threatened Trump, then he won’t even keep talking about things even while not running.

He’s got so much money. I think he should pay someone a lot of money to start releasing whatever info he has found/will find. Then he is protected, but the info gets out there. That is, if there WAS info and he wasn’t just bluffing…

  21. “White House Insider Trump was Threatened”

When I heard him so abrupted said he is not running on Monday, after seeing that past Friday before this announcement he was on CNBC responding to the attacks on his university, which has a very good record, I knew those threats were getting worse and worse. Not physical threats, but threats to his business empire.
And today the NY AG has opened an investigation into Trump’s university, this to me means, they want to make damn sure Trump doesn’t even think about running.

Now, as for these threats, they could have come from either side, the Obots are vicious, but the establishment repubs play hardball, and Trump was ruining the game on both sides. Considering Trump is right leaning, if I was betting, I would guess these threats came from higher up repubs, or just this once both dems and repubs joined together to threatened Trump, who was going after both of them.

  22. I just listened to the clip. Netanyahu says (I don’t remember the exact words) “the Israeli people have suffered more than anyone else in history”. I’ll bet poor BO, trying his whole life to be black, didn’t like someone saying that anyone had it worse than blacks lol

I never believed Trump backed out of the race challenging Obama for MONEY- As we are aware, Obama’s MO is creating a scandal forcing his opponents out of a contest before the race begins eliminating the possibility of an opponent’s win… A scandal/smear about Trump University, to me, would be enough to force him to drop out..

‘Trump University’ Being Investigated By New York Attorney General’s Office

    May 19, 2011 9:28 PM

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A for-profit university operated by real estate mogul Donald Trump is being investigated by the New York Attorney General’s office.

A spokesman for the Trump Entrepreneurial Initiative acknowledged receiving an inquiry from Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office and said the organization would cooperate with the probe.

A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press that Schneiderman’s office was looking into claims that the developer and TV host exaggerated Trump University’s success. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe hasn’t yet been made public.

The person says Schneiderman is investigating four other for-profit schools in a case looking at deceptive business practices. He’s found more than a dozen credible complaints.

Trump announced Monday he would not pursue a presidential bid. He also said that he would be canceling his appearance at the Iowa GOP’s annual Lincoln Dinner on June 10, which is considered one of the party’s biggest annual fundraisers.

  24. I haven’t had a chance to read upthread so this may have been mentioned. I just heard Kirsten what’s her name of Hannity saying that Netanyahu was DISRESPECTFUL of Obama….WHAT!!!!!!

Is that what the Obots are saying????

There he goes again being too modest. For he too has racked up millions of miles for a worthy cause: V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N with Reggie Love and all his unctuous, OBsequious, fawning, crooning, lying, sickening, revolting, slavish, mawkish big media cultists– and having a gay old time. He is due for a long vacation–like about forty years. An anti-Christ for all seasons. That would make a wonderful travel brochure.

“The Kaplan Higher Education unit had campuses where students defaulted on federal loans at rate of higher than 30 percent, more than three times the rate at private, nonprofit colleges, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Education.[5] The high default rate may even trigger the loss of student aid under federal rules that take effect in 2012.[5] When students default on their debt taxpayers are stuck with the bill and the students have their credit destroyed. Kaplan’s marketing campaign targets especially veterans, single mothers and low-income students.”

What is the “Kaplan Higher Education Unit”? Answer: It’s the cash cow for the Washington Post Company…The Newspapers, Web site, Slate, and other arms of the propaganda division run at a financial loss. Kaplan provides ~75% of WaPo operating revenue and in 2009 >83% of Kaplan’s tuition dollars came from Gov’t student loans (Title IV).

“In August, Kaplan was one of 15 for-profit universities featured in a Government Accountability Office report titled “For-Profit Colleges: Undercover Testing Finds Colleges Encouraged Fraud and Engaged in Deceptive and Questionable Marketing Practices.”

I first got a whiff of the WaPo financial smell when they supported Bush’s “No Child Left Behind”…WTF… not expected from a “Librul” newspaper, well NCLB was/is a financial windfall for Kaplan and the odds of the DOJ or Dept of Education doing anything about “Encouraging fraud, etc. are close to zero as long as the propaganda division does it job of covering for Barry.

Follow the money and the “Whys” usually have answers unrelated to alleged political/social philosophy. Trump didn’t understand or ignored that reality.

  28. If we could find out who is making these threats, then we could target them as well. Where they live, where their spouse works, where their children go to school, who they know, any things in their life which they would like to forget, everything. And then we could go to work on them on the premise that turn about if fair play. But you know something we do not have to sink to the level of a thug to take them down. Public exposure and embarrassment would be like the death of a thousand cuts. Prosecution, and no club fed. Let them wallow with the general population. That is what they did to Liddy, but unlike him I doubt they could survive in that environment. He was tough and they are back shooters. These people deserve to be taken down and anyone who knows who they are would be doing a great service to the country to expose them. Otherwise we may not have a country left. These kind of people are to the political system what the AIDS virus is to the human body.

Fuck the cultist Associated Press, and their Hillary hating New York Times weaned editor.

I used to work with a hard drinking Irishman who was retired from the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was the number 2 man in charge of Soviet Espionage, or so I was told. He said to me once, something which I have not forgotten: the FBI prosecutes you not for what you have done, but because of who you are. In the days when they went after the Mafia, they turned a blind eye to the Irish mobs who were committing the same or worse offenses. They were not crime driven. They were agenda driven. Whoever it was that ratted him out, and whoever reported it to the New York Attorney General, and whoever in that office decided to run with it did so not because of what Trump did, but because of who he is, and because he is attacking Obama. Otherwise, I doubt it would have ever come up.

    ————————–
I think the State Department is 100% behind Hillary. From this distance and with no source to fall back on, I just sense she has turned that agency around and given it a renewed sense of purpose, after it was reduced to foggy bottom and the Pentagon under Bush. I rather suspect that they all work very hard themselves, and they have a deep respect for someone like Hillary who works even harder than they do. Hard as it is for someone like me to stomach the lies and treachery of Obama, his cronies and their big media hacks, it must be far more difficult for them. Yes, they were silent when he took credit for something he did not do but had to be pushed into, and in this case the silence was deafening. Moral to the story: Obama don’t expect people who know the truth to be impressed by your lies.

  31. Obama Torpedoed Peace Process And US Image

President Barack Obama’s call for a negotiated peace between Israel and the Palestinians based on the 1967 Israeli border dealt a serious blow to the peace process and damaged the global image of the United States, Israeli advocate and Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax.TV.

Dershowitz was commenting on Obama’s Thursday address at the State Department in which he pressed Israel to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians and set the 1967 border as it existed before the Six-Day War as a starting point. Obama’s position “hurt the peace process gravely,” he said, adding that the president’s declaring such a marker repeated a negotiating error that led to an earlier breakdown in talks when he insisted on a freeze of Israeli settlements in occupied territories.

“He made the same mistake again in this speech,” Dershowitz said. “He put himself ahead of the Palestinians. That is he insisted Israel go back to ’67 borders with land swaps, but he did not demand that the Palestinians give up the right of return.”

    Story continues below video.

The former Supreme Court law clerk and noted defense lawyer believes the speech will have a “terrible impact” on U.S. Israeli relations and increased the level of distrust dramatically, although “polite discourse” will continue.

“The tragedy is during the Obama administration the prospect of peace has gone further away than it’s ever been in recent years since Israel offered to give the Palestinians a state . . . He’s been ham-handed in how he has dealt with the issue of negotiations and the result is we’re further away than ever before from negotiated peace and that’s in large part the fault of President Obama and I think that’s the terrible tragedy of how he’s handled this process.”

Dershowitz also maintained the speech will damage the country’s image.

“I think also the speech was not particularly good for the United States,” he said. “It set us out in a way that showed naiveté and created a situation where neither side will be encouraged to move toward peace by what the president said. So I think on balance it was a net loss rather than a net gain. And I am disappointed because I favor a two-state solution, I voted for Obama and I was hoping he would have a more sophisticated and realistic approach to negotiations which he doesn’t seem to have. He has twice now set back the prospects for negations and a two state solution.”

Dershowitz also criticized how little time Obama spent on the question of Iran and its nuclear weapons program. Obama devoted few words to the issue in his speech, noting at one point that the United States’ “opposition to Iran’s intolerance and Iran’s repressive measures, as well as its illicit nuclear program and its support of terror, is well known.”

“The thousand-pound elephant in the room that threatens Israel’s security more than the Palestinians, or the Syrians or the Egyptians is the prospect that Iran will develop nuclear weapons,” Dershowitz said. “Although he threw a little bone against Iranian development of nuclear weapons he did not guarantee Israel that Iran would not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons. In fact he had a big statement saying Israel will have to be prepared to defend itself alone.”

Such language increases the “distress most Israeli’s have in Obama,” Dershowitz said.

“It would have been far better had he not make that speech than that he included the few paragraphs he did about Israel which were ill conceived and I think not helpful to the peace process,” he said.

  33. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/162447-hatch-to-introduce-resolution-disapproving-of-obamas-call-for-1967-israel-border

Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) announced Friday he would introduce a congressional resolution disapproving of President Obama’s stance on Israel’s border lines, saying that “threatens Israel’s security.”

“By calling for a return to the pre-1967 borders, President Obama has directly undermined her,” Hatch said of Israel. “Rather than stand by Israel against consistent unprovoked aggression by longtime supporters of terrorism, President Obama is rewarding those who threaten Israel’s very right to exist. This is not only ridiculous, but dangerous.”

Hatch’s announcement came shortly after Obama finished a protracted Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A day earlier, the president said in a major foreign policy address that lines drawn before the 1967 “Six Day War” should be the starting point for negotiations over a future Palestinian state.

In a joint appearance after Friday’s meeting, Obama cited “differences” with Netanyahu on that issue, though he said he was optimistic a peace deal could be reached. Netanyahu reiterated his opposition to a return to the 1967 borders, calling such a move “indefensible.”

Said Hatch: “There is strong disapproval in Congress for the President’s new posture towards Israel, and I will introduce a resolution next week affirming Israel’s right to maintain its territorial integrity.

Now, more than ever, the security interests of the United States and Israel are linked,” he said. “Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons is a clear and present danger to both of our nations. We cannot distance ourselves from our Israeli friends.”

Obama expanded on his peace-process policy in an interview with the BBC Thursday night.

“The basis for negotiations will involve looking at that 1967 border, recognizing that conditions on the ground have changed and there are going to need to be swaps to accommodate the interests of both sides,” Obama said.

Finally, Congress doing it’s job- curbing Obama’s plans of walking us into the breach blindfolded abandoning our life long ally to terrorists intent on gaining a UN approved takeover of Israel.

Thanks for posting the good news. I hope Hatch’s resolution gains strong Congressional support and will be unable to be overridden by the president’s veto.

Next, the Jewish community withholds donations to the Obama campaign until Obama clearly understands asking Israel to return to 1967 borders is an insult, unacceptable and a bridge too far in his appeasement strategy of Pakistan’s demands.

  35. Netanyahu, in his awesome rebuttal, employed the word “illusion.” He kept the conversation at a high level, so the expression “fairy tale” never crossed his lips. But certainly it, as well as the name Bill Clinton, passed through the minds of many as they listened spellbound to a rebuke of #44 which has been too long in coming.

admin, as always, your understanding of the nuances and willingness to share them is much appreciated.

As to the sickening picture of Hillary SOS with him, I would suggest that Ubama took advantage of the moment for reasons similar to Dominique SK’s motives in accosting the female Sofitel employee: self-gratification. I want a copy of that picture; hope it is not hard to find.

So, In the face of all those saying “WTF” about Obama’s ’67 Border’s demand and Bibi’s rebuke and history lesson – Obama doubles down. He really is an Israel hater and a demagogue of the worst kind.

  37. By claiming to be the leader who killed OBL, Obama jeopardized his special relationship with Muslims (in his and Jarret’s mind anyway). So how do you get back in with the extremist’s good graces. Go after Israel of course. Look strong and resolute with Bibi. The problem of course is that Netanyahu makes Obama look like a whiny child talking out of his ass. So what does the WH do with this idiotic plan gone awry? They send out the Obamabot media to write “please Mr Netanyahu don’t talk to my President that way” and Obama bloggers (paid of course) claiming he is a terrorist. This is the same old shit that the WH always does when they are thwarted from playing both sides.

I can almost believe that the wild applause reported at the CIA headquarters speech by Obama was either a wildly exaggerated supine media report or the CIA staff were sarcastically showing their butts and acting up to make fun of gargantuan ego of Obama. I think Obama may be too stupid to realize this.

  42. Obama’s Abandonment of America
Posted By Caroline Glick On May 20, 2011 (4:57 am) In Featured Story, Islam, Islamic extremism, Israel, Middle East

I was out sick yesterday so I was unable to write today’s column for the Jerusalem Post. I did manage to watch President Obama’s speech on the Middle East yesterday evening. And I didn’t want to wait until next week to discuss it. After all, who knows what he’ll do by Tuesday?

Before we get into what the speech means for Israel, it is important to consider what it means for America.

Quite simply, Obama’s speech represents the effective renunciation of the US’s right to have and to pursue national interests. Consequently, his speech imperils the real interests that the US has in the region – first and foremost, the US’s interest in securing its national security.

Obama’s renunciation of the US national interests unfolded as follows:
First, Obama mentioned a number of core US interests in the region. In his view these are: “Countering terrorism and stopping the spread of nuclear weapons; securing the free flow of commerce, and safe-guarding the security of the region; standing up for Israel’s security and pursuing Arab-Israeli peace.”

Then he said, “Yet we must acknowledge that a strategy based solely upon the narrow pursuit of these interests will not fill an empty stomach or allow someone to speak their mind.”

While this is true enough, Obama went on to say that the Arabs have good reason to hate the US and that it is up to the US to put its national interests aside in the interest of making them like America. As he put it, “a failure to change our approach threatens a deepening spiral of division between the United States and Muslim communities.”

And you know what that means. If the US doesn’t end the spiral of division, (sounds sort of like “spiral of violence,” doesn’t it?), then the Muslims will come after America. So the US better straighten up and fly right.

And how does it do that? Well, by courting the Muslim Brotherhood which spawned Al Qaeda, Hamas, Jamma Islamiya and a number of other terror groups and is allies with Hezbollah.

How do we know this is Obama’s plan? Because right after he said that the US needs to end the “spiral of division,” he recalled his speech in Egypt in June 2009 when he spoke at the Brotherhood controlled Al-Azhar University and made sure that Brotherhood members were in the audience in a direct diplomatic assault on US ally Hosni Mubarak.

And of course, intimations of Obama’s plan to woo and appease the jihadists appear throughout the speech. For instance: “There will be times when our short-term interests do not align perfectly with our long-term vision of the region.”

So US short-term interests, like for instance preventing terrorist attacks against itself or its interests, will have to be sacrificed for the greater good of bringing the Muslim Brotherhood to power in democratic elections.

And he also said that the US will “support the governments that will be elected later this year” in Egypt and Tunisia. But why would the US support governments controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood? They are poised to control the elected government in Egypt and are the ticket to beat in Tunisia as well.

Then there is the way Obama abandoned US allies Yemen and Bahrain in order to show the US’s lack of hypocrisy. As he presented it, the US will not demand from its enemies Syria and Iran that which it doesn’t demand from its friends.

While this sounds fair, it is anything but fair. The fact is that if you don’t distinguish between your allies and your enemies then you betray your allies and side with your enemies. Bahrain and Yemen need US support to survive. Iran and Syria do not. So when he removes US support from the former, his action redounds to the direct benefit of the latter.

I hope the US Navy’s 5th Fleet has found alternate digs because Obama just opened the door for Iran to take over Bahrain. He also invited al Qaeda – which he falsely claimed is a spent force – to take over Yemen.

Beyond his abandonment of Bahrain and Yemen, in claiming that the US mustn’t distinguish between its allies and its foes, Obama made clear that he has renounced the US’s right to have and pursue national interests. If you can’t favor your allies against your enemies then you cannot defend your national interests. And if you cannot defend your national interests then you renounce your right to have them.

As for Iran, in his speech, Obama effectively abandoned the pursuit of the US’s core interest of preventing nuclear proliferation. All he had to say about Iran’s openly genocidal nuclear program is, “Our opposition to Iran’s intolerance – as well as its illicit nuclear program, and its sponsorship of terror – is well known.”

Well, so is my opposition to all of that, and so is yours. But unlike us, Obama is supposed to do something about it. And by putting the gravest threat the US presently faces from the Middle East in the passive voice, he made clear that actually, the US isn’t going to do anything about it.

In short, every American who is concerned about the security of the United States should be livid. The US President just abandoned his responsibility to defend the country and its interests in the interest of coddling the US’s worst enemies.

AS FOR ISRAEL, in a way, Obama did Israel a favor by giving this speech. By abandoning even a semblance of friendliness, he has told us that we have nothing whatsoever to gain by trying to make him like us. Obama didn’t even say that he would oppose the Palestinians’ plan to get the UN Security Council to pass a resolution in support for Palestinian independence. All he said was that it is a dumb idea.

Obama sided with Hamas against Israel by acting as though its partnership with Fatah is just a little problem that has to be sorted out to reassure the paranoid Jews. Or as he put it, “the recent announcement of an agreement between Fatah and Hamas raises profound and legitimate questions for Israel.”

Hamas is a jihadist movement dedicated to the annihilation of the Jewish people, and the establishment of a global caliphate. It’s in their charter. And all Obama said of the movement that has now taken over the Palestinian Authority was, “Palestinian leaders will not achieve peace or prosperity if Hamas insists on a path of terror and rejection.”

    Irrelevant and untrue.

It is irrelevant because obviously the Palestinians don’t want peace. That’s why they just formed a government dedicated to Israel’s destruction.

As for being untrue, Obama’s speech makes clear that they have no reason to fear a loss of prosperity? After all, Obama is going to continue to give them money for bombs and patronage jobs. So is the EU. They have nothing to worry about. They will continue to be rewarded regardless of what they do.

Of course there are all the hostile, hateful details of the speech: He said Israel has to concede its right to defensible borders as a precondition for negotiations; he didn’t say he opposes the Palestinian demand for open immigration of millions of foreign Arabs into Israel; he again ignored Bush’s 2004 letter to Sharon opposing a return to the 1949 armistice lines, supporting the large settlements, defensible borders and opposing mass Arab immigration into Israel; he said he was leaving Jerusalem out but actually brought it in by calling for an Israeli retreat to the 1949 lines; he called for Israel to be cut in two when he called for the Palestinians state to be contiguous; and he called for Israel to withdraw from the Jordan Valley – without which it is powerless against invasion – by saying that the Palestinian State will have an international border with Jordan.

Conceptually and substantively, Obama abandoned the US alliance with Israel. The rest of his words – security arrangements, demilitarized Palestinian state and the rest of it – were nothing more than filler to please empty-headed liberal Jews in America so they can feel comfortable signing checks for him again.

Indeed, even his seemingly pro-Israel call for security arrangements in a final peace deal involved sticking it to Israel. Obama said, “The full and phased withdrawal of Israeli military forces should be coordinated with the assumption of Palestinian security responsibility in a sovereign, non-militarized state.”

What does that mean: “With the assumption of Palestinian security responsibility?”

It means we have to assume everything will be terrific.

All of this means is that if Netanyahu was planning to be nice to Obama, and pretend that everything is terrific with the administration, he should just forget about it. He needn’t attack Obama. Let the Republicans do that.

But both in his speech to AIPAC and his address to Congress, he should very forthrightly tell the truth about the nature of the populist movements in the Middle East, the danger of a nuclear Iran, the Palestinians’ commitment to Israel’s destruction; the lie of the so-called peace process; the importance of standing by allies; and the critical importance of a strong Israel to US national security.

He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing by the rules that Obama is trying to set for him.

In that pic is Hillary fuming????
    Yes.
BTW ABC carried huge buckets of water for the one on Thursday evening, first by not mentioning coverage of the Israel speech in the leadup to their evening news program. Then they placed it 5th after DSK (IMF), renewed interest in Tylenol scare, damning report on last year’s mine disaster, and the [then] latest on the Mississippi River. Fifth came a headline suggesting Obama came out swinging.
This coverage is available at the video

    beginning at the 9:41 mark.
In it the WH correspondent states [as best I can remember] that all private negotiations include 1967 as a basis. Then Christiane comes on to say how happy all the other ME countries in turmoil are with Obama.

caveat: video has several minutes of ads prior to the newscast and it does not reverse. I was taken by surprise by the position of their reveal that historically 1967 boundaries are always privately acknowledged – thought Christiane said it in her fluff piece toward the end of that segment, and I’ve no more time to pin it down further. Will be interesting to see how ABC deals with the snow job on Sunday morning with Christiane…. She is on then, isn’t she?

  44. Just wanted to post this article, thought it was very good, I think the author is an independent.

“Obama uses childish and immature methods to try and brow beat his opponents. He tried this with the Supreme Court in a SOTU speech, and he did it with Paul Ryan in a speech on the budget. Basically he tries to bully people from the pulpit – apparently not aware that the nickname should never be taken literally. It is a useless method that simply creates massive resistance in his opposition, burns all bridges for future compromise and aligns more and more people against the head of the Democrat Party. The result of this is the price Israel will demand is going to go up, and the America people will be aligned more closely to the Israeli PM than the US President. Now that kind of screw up takes talent!

And that is the real devastation going on here. Israel does not need our permission to exist or make decisions. All that happened this week is they have realized this President feels the violence driven Palestinians are equal to the Democratic Israelis. He sees no risk in giving into the mass murderers. Yeah, dumb as a rock. But once you know someone is dumb as a rock you are no longer required to take them seriously. Con’t….”

  45. I think Waffles line: “If things turn ugly I will stand with the
Muslims” is proving more and more true everyday now, the man cannot hide his hatred for Israel any longer.

The core people that support him use that tactic also, bullying, either the racial stuff or the you do not respect the postion of President of the US. This indicate that no matter how you got there, you have to do NOTHING to prove yourself. He was hired to do a job, not selected by God, and he does have to prove himself to gain respect. The sheer fact he got illegally elected does not do it for you. Neither does uttering the words, I can lead from day one, when now we know he obviously could not, and does not yet function very well. He bullies well. I cannot wait to see how Joy on the view spins this. She has used that phrase about disrespecting the position before. Since she is Jewish, I wonder what she will say not. It will be a choice between one of her religious leaders, and her beloved President.

  49. I would love to hear what Hillary said to Bibi during that phone call.

My thoughts always go back to when she said words to the effect that obama is potus and not her. In other words, I’m pretty sure Jarret and a few of his young idiot advisors pushed for him to attack Israel in this way, similar to what happened at first with Libya and his procrastination.

I refuse to believe that Hillary pushed for this result. More like she is letting him sink in quicksand on his own.

Don’t you think his presentation at the SOD office was to show that they supported his positions, and the non applause was the SODs way of signaling that they do not. It gave a very awkward silence, and of course did not show him respect.

This line pops up in the latest Insider post after he says watch for Hillary news. What specifically does this line mean in the context of the topic of the post? I know HRC still has campaign debt and that weakens her position, but how is this being used against her and by what group – the dems? Or was he implying that HRC had to let Obama speak at the State Dept because of this. He is the prez, so I would think any Sec of State would have to allow the prez to speak at the State Dept.

Yes. But once again the liberal jews will rally behind him. Golderg is a perfect example, but even Dershowitz refuses to say it was a mistake to vote for him in 2008, and frankly I take his statement that he will be looking at all candidates–not just Obama in 2012 with a grain of salt. I honestly believe that they are so rich and so Americanized that their commitment to the survival of Israel is tenuous at best. That National Jewish Democratic Council is a perfect case in point. I have a neighbor who is Jewish whose name is Sandy. He takes great pride that Bill Clinton singled him out personally for recognition at a major fundraiser, he claims to admire Hillary, yet he voted for Obama in the primary. He told me that when I hit him up for a donation to Hillary–wealthy but could not scrounge up the money. I asked him whether Obama could be counted upon to support Israel and he was sure he could. I asked him why. He said because of Axelrod, and that he voted for Obama over Hillary because Axelrod was Jewish. I have a rabbi in the building and he voted for Obama as well for the same reason. That is what we are dealing with here. As I said before, never assume that erroneous views will be corrected by mere facts. That is why I believe Obama’s treachery will be accepted by those whose people it most directly affects. Dershowitz is correct in one sense. Obama’s pre-emptive strike against Israel has prejudiced the peace effort, because it has put Israel in a corner, and because it has altered the incentives for the Palestinians to come to the table and to do what is necessary to achieve peace. Also, Obama has embarrassed the United States. I have another lady in my building Mrs. G and I will not even tell you how far gone she is. Another neighbor who just died has a daughter who Obama appointed as an Ambasssador, so perhaps you can understand my scepticism that what we are seeing now in terms of repudiation of Obama is anything more than a hiccup. It is the same with my Republican friend who is a Gentile and who refuses to believe anything: you can either drive yourself nuts trying to convince people what is right there in front of their noses, or you can say, as I said to him, well my friend you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink. So if they won’t drink I guess I will have to drink enough for both of us.

  55. The american jews who voted for him in 2008 will squeal and sqwack about how Waffles is so anti-Israel, and then will 100% back this Israel hating fool in 2012, you can take that to the bank!

People like Mort Zuckerman, like Ed Koch, like Steven Spielburg(makes movies about the Holocaust, and yet backs a fool who is anti-Israel and anti-jews, and then complains how as a child he faced anti-sematism, STFU spielburg), many many other american jews will verbally give a little slap on the wrist to Waffles for going after Israel, and at the same time be holding massive fundraisers for this Israel-hating fool.

  56. Don’t you think his presentation at the SOD office was to show that they supported his positions, and the non applause was the SODs way of signaling that they do not. It gave a very awkward silence, and of course did not show him respect.

Choice of venue for a speech like that is everything. I interpret it the exact same way that you do. He senses opposition from Hillary and the State Department. His intent was to crush and neuter it. By the time big media has done its treasonous work he will have succeeded. I wish I could believe otherwise, but there is too much history. I have been looking for a tipping point somewhere along the way, but it has not happened. As a country, we just seem to descend further into that pit described by Yeats in Easter 1916: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst (Obama, big media and the bots) are filled with passionate intensity” . . . and what rough beast its hour come round at last slouches its way to Betheleham to be borne (Obama, the fraud, the bamboozler, the friend of Farakan, the Anti- Christ, Shiva the destroyer of worlds).

  57. I will credit to those American Jews who voted for him and openly admit they regret it and openly say they will oppose him next year. Gene Simmons is one such person I have found so far, I hope he doesn’t change back and yes, I can’t stand Waffles, but I’ll still vote for him;;; so far everytime he’s asked about Waffles, he slams him.

It actually threw the president off his pace just a bit. Watch his eyes dart about for a second. I now know that look well. He is panicked. That is how much he depends on people applauding on cue. This time it didn’t happen. Not on Hillary Clinton’s stage.”–Ulsterman

DICTATORS ARE THE SAME THE WORLD OVER . . . .

One of Solzhenitsyn’s most chilling stories concerned a birthday party for Comrade Stalin, held in a small, out-of-the-way town. Stalin was, of course, no where in sight, but still there were speeches and applause. Without thinking, the mayor of the town rose and exhorted his fellows to one last cheer for the evening to the honor of Stalin.

The applause continued for minutes without stopping and everyone was growing weary, but who would dare to be the first to stop clapping? As the labored applause wore on an old man collapsed. Finally the mayor allowed his arms to drop and the noise died. The next evening the mayor was sentenced to the gulag, and no charges were ever spoken against him. As he stepped into the train, a party official whispered into his ear, “Never be the first one to stop clapping.”

Corsi sounds credible to me when he talks. He gave an advanced copy to Trump and he is ticked at him for sure.

This story seems to go right along with part of that the insider spoke of.

Could Corsi be the next Woodward and Bernstein? Instead of the media actually doing the investigative research we should expect, an author now has to do it?

Looks that way to me too.

  64. In an effort to satisfy those arguing he needs to seek congressional authorization to continue US military activity in accordance with the War Powers Resolution, President Obama wrote a letter to congressional leaders this afternoon suggesting that the role is now so “limited” he does not need to seek congressional approval.

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2011/05/white-house-on-war-powers-deadline-limited-us-role-in-libya-means-no-need-to-get-congressional-autho.html

  65. From the Insider:

“Also watch for Hillary news. The split that has always existed between she and Obama could become more widely known.”
    ____________

Traditionally, the winner of their party’s nomination offers to retire most or all of his opponent’s debt. Obama offered *nothing* to Hillary when she beat him with the popular vote then withdrew. Hillary had somewhere in the vicinity of $3.2M in debt. at the time of her withdrawal. Bill raised most of the money over the next two yrs to retire most of the debt with the exception of $1M owed to Mark Penn.
    ___________________

“The campaign debt bribe can only keep up the ruse for so long before one side feels the obligations have been met.”
    _________________

It appears part of the deal for Hillary accepting the SOS position included something like- Hillary agreed: “I’ll work for the entire first term as your SOS at which point you agree to retire the balance of my campaign debt “BEFORE” the end of your first term.”

Whatever the actual agreement between Obama and Hillary has never been made public. Reading the last two lines written by the Insider (I’m speculating) indicates a side deal was made attached to Hillary agreeing to accept Obama’s offer of the SOS position.
(Which was very shrewd indeed on the Clinton’s part) (But nothing out of the ordinary when the winner customarily takes care of the loser’s debt.)

Which if it was part of her accepting the SOS position, the Clintons have been waiting for Obama to make good on his promise and pay up what Obama agreed to do to get Hillary as his SOS.

IOW- Obama owes the Clintons, $1,000,000+- or more. (?) Apparently, requests have been made by the Clintons but so far have been ignored by Obama.

If Hillary has to quit because Obama has welshed on their agreement; they will not hesitate to go public about it when asked why Hillary has suddenly resigned…

  66. Here is another observation:

I don’t think Obama has the MONEY!

His campaign fundraisers have fallen way short of expectations. We haven’t heard the same brag we did like in 08′ when after every fundraiser the Big numbers were plastered wall to wall on the front pages of Big Media.

“Obama Raises $1M dollars in 8 hrs.” “Record Breaking Donations!”

Rezko is in jail.. Who is Obama going to borrow from? Obama’s book sales have been down during the last year… Not hearing about any new book deals. Maybe he plans on making a killing on the Seals taking out Osama and why Spielberg was at his DCCD last month…

The outpouring of donations experienced by Obama just ain’t happening anymore. After Friday’s speech, Obama PO’d his Muslim friends in PA, Syria and Iran. The American Jews are going to be holding back because they don’t Trust Obama. So, I doubt if King Abdullah/Saudi Arabia, is going to gamble his money on this loser. No-siree Bob!

  67. I wish Corsi wouldn’t keep saying that he went to the Hawaiian hospital, asked for BO’s mother’s hospitalization records, and because he was refused, it’s proof she wasn’t there. She may NOT have been there, but his experience is in no way “proof”.

Medical information is private, and to release it without the consent of the person involved is a HIPAA violation, very severe. Furthermore, it doesn’t matter if the person is deceased. If someone isn’t a legal representative of the decedent, or have the consent of that legal representative, they can’t have the info. Medical info basically can only be released for further medical assistance (for the living) or for medical research.

Here’s a flow chart on when the PHI (protected health information) can be released on a deceased person.

  73. Top Jewish Americans ponder support for Obama

    By Eric Johnson

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Some prominent Jewish Americans are rethinking their support for President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election bid after he effectively called on Israel to give back territory it has occupied since 1967 to Palestinians.

The backlash after Obama’s keynote speech on the Middle East has Democratic Party operatives scrambling to mollify the Jewish community as the president prepares to seek a second term in the White House.

Obama on Thursday called for any new Palestinian state to respect the borders as they were in 1967, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to tell him bluntly that his vision of how to achieve Middle East peace was unrealistic.

“He has in effect sought to reduce Israel’s negotiation power and I condemn him for that,” former New York Mayor Ed Koch told Reuters.

Koch said he might not campaign or vote for Obama if Republicans nominate a pro-Israel candidate who offers an alternative to recent austere budgetary measures backed by Republicans in Congress.

Koch donated $2,300 to Obama’s campaign in 2008, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.

“I believed that then-Senator Obama would be as good as John McCain based on his statements at the time and based on his support of Israel. It turns out I was wrong,” he said.

Despite the stormy reaction to Obama’s remarks, some commentators noted talk of the 1967 borders was nothing new.

“This has been the basic idea for at least 12 years. This is what Bill Clinton, Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat were talking about at Camp David, and later, at Taba,” Jeffrey Goldberg wrote on The Atlantic website.

“This is what George W. Bush was talking about with Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert. So what’s the huge deal here?”

Exit polls from the 2008 election showed 78 percent of Jewish voters chose Obama over his Republican rival Senator McCain.

“I have spoken to a lot of people in the last couple of days — former supporters — who are very upset and feel alienated,” billionaire real estate developer and publisher Mortimer Zuckerman said.

“He’ll get less political support, fewer activists for his campaign, and I am sure that will extend to financial support as well.”

Zuckerman backed Obama during his 2008 presidential run and the newspaper he owns, the New York Daily News, endorsed the president.

Obama’s Chicago-based re-election campaign sought to play down reaction to the shift in the U.S. stance toward Israel.

“There’s no question that we’ve reached out to the Jewish donor community, as we have to many other communities that strongly supported the president in 2008,” a campaign spokeswoman said on Friday.

“The continued grassroots organizing and fundraising efforts of many prominent leaders in the Jewish community makes it clear this will remain a strong base of support in 2012.”

Texas-based real estate developer Kirk Rudy, who is a deputy finance chairman for the Democratic National Committee, said he exchanged phone calls and e-mails with a large network of supporters since the president’s speech “trying to take people’s pulse” and has not seen a strong backlash.

“I have seen very emphatic and robust support — and financial support — from the Jewish community,” Rudy said, adding Obama received “significant financial participation from the Jewish community” at two fund-raisers in Austin, before the Middle East speech, that brought in roughly $2 million.

Since the speech, Rudy has received e-mails from angry voters but the overwhelming majority of his network will continue to donate and not cross party lines, he said.

But Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, wrote an open letter to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, calling on it to cancel a scheduled address by Obama to the lobby group on Sunday.

    =================

No, that’s two different propositions. Or more.

Lack of a LFBC wouldn’t prove anything. Snafu’s happen. Even if you could somehow prove he wasn’t born in any hospital anywhere in the world — still there are lots of locations besides a mud hut in Kenya. 😉

Based on Obama’s past performance over the last 3.5 yrs, I think Mr Klein’s request is justified and has merit.

Obama shot several (donation) toes off of his left foot last Friday. I guess, he was just overcome with emotion trying to deliver to his brethren in the Middle Eastern Muslim quadrant. Momentarily forgetting it was the generosity of his friends of Israel that seated him in the WH in 08.’

Corsi could have phrased his question in a simpler, less intrusive manner without violating any HIPAA regulations. Asking hospital officials something like… “Are you in possession of Obama’s mother’s hospital records?” And rather than a verbal response it could have been a nod of the head… either way.

There are always ways around rules. You can bend them any way you want to- you just can’t break them.

It happened one time where I called an airline inquiring if my son had made it safely onto his flight. The stewardess said, I cannot divulge the flight’s manifesto but you can ask me if he didn’t get on the flight- and of course, he did- I was thrilled…

    ============

Why would anyone at the hospital want to get involved with this? Even a hint could get the employee in trouble.

  80. The HI Health Dept is already involved, Obama involved them. That means the door is open.

  81. The whole point of my comment was that Corsi is saying that the hospital not giving him info on BO’s mother’s hospitalization is “proof” that she wasn’t there, and it’s not. The fact that someone didn’t “nod” is also not proof. Even if they DID nod, that wouldn’t be proof in the affirmative.

Corsi needs to stop using that as part of his “proof”. Everyone in the medical industry (and it’s a HUGE industry) knows about HIPAA. They hear him talk like that and it affects his credibility in their minds. And as it’s also law, I would think an awful lot of lawyers turn doubtful about any of his claims, when he pushes such an obvious error in logic.

  82. Bill raised most of the money over the next two yrs to retire most of the debt with the exception of $1M owed to Mark Penn.
    ————————-
Fat, arrogant and so stupid that he did not understand how the delegate system in California worked–thought if was winner take all—Penn can afford to miss a meal, and wait for his money–until hell freezes over.

  83. I would think an awful lot of lawyers turn doubtful about any of his claims, when he pushes such an obvious error in logic.

    ===============

    Yes, that’s important.

Some people may be saying ‘proof’ when they mean ‘evidence.’ But they need to use words more carefully.

And lack of response from a hospital employee isn’t even EVIDENCE of anything.

  84. The HI Health Dept is already involved, Obama involved them. That means the door is open.

    =============

Nonsense. Do you mean, as in a trial, one lawyer opening a subject means the other lawyer can pursue it? Corsi is not a judge, he can’t force any hospital employees to speak just because some HIHD officials have chosen to speak. Their refusal to talk to Corsi shows nothing either way (except that they wisely don’t want to get involved with Corsi).

  85. wouldn’t surprise me if the PO$ lied about this as well.

    http://fleming-hayes.com/2011/05/obamas-classmate-at-columbia-raises-new-questions/

“Columbia college has a unique system. EVERY student takes approximately the same 81 credits. This is the “core curriculum”. Unlike other schools this is not ‘one from column A, and one from column B’ but the same courses for all undergrads.
You need 161 credits to graduate.

The college handbook clearly discusses the fact that it is effectively impossible to transfer in as a junior because there is no substituting these credits for classes taken anywhere else.

Hence, you will not be able to graduate, with the required major credits. (there is a way to appeal this – it has just never happened. Or, apparently did in his case).

So, how did a self admittedly poor student from a third rate college (Occidental) get into one of the worlds great liberal arts colleges at a time when they do not accept any transfers?

This is a question I have continued to ask.”

  86. Not good, not good one bit. Now Iran is overtly confronting us.

    http://www.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/05/21/149953.html

“Iran has arrested 30 people it said were spying for the United States.

“Due to the massive intelligence and counter-intelligence work by Iranian agents, a complex espionage and sabotage network linked to America’s spy organization was uncovered and dismantled,” an intelligence ministry statement read out Saturday on the television said.

“Elite agents of the intelligence ministry in their confrontation with the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) elements were able to arrest 30 America-linked spies through numerous intelligence and counter-intelligence operations,” it added.

According to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, the suspects had passed information to US officials at embassies and consulates in third countries, including Malaysia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

It said Iran had identified 42 US intelligence officers in such countries, saying: “They engage in collection of information regarding Iran’s nuclear, aerospace defense and bio-technology fields,” among other areas.

Spying in Iran usually carries the death penalty, often implemented without a full trial”

  87. Affirmative action is how he got in there like the rest.
    ——————————
Affirmative action in the worst sense of the word. One form of affirmative action simply does outreach to the black community, but still hires the most qualified. A less benign form of affirmative action does outreach, and if the candidates are equally qualified awards the job on the basis of race. The perverse form of affirmative action is where you do the outreach, and then hire an unqualified candidate on the basis of race. That is what happened with Obama. And experience has shown that when you do that you are practicing reverse discrimination and job performance will be at best sub par.

  88. Their refusal to talk to Corsi shows nothing either way (except that they wisely don’t want to get involved with Corsi).

This candid email was sent to us by someone who wishes to remain anonymous. We have confirmed its author was a student at Columbia University at the same time as Obama.
The points raised in the following email have yet to be addressed by the “main-stream” media, let alone the Obama Administration. What say you?

…It involves understanding Columbia’s history, his history and family relationships as well as Columbia’s admission policy.
    Here’s the incredibly abbreviated version.

First, why Columbia? i.e. why a child from Hawaii, and a school in California would want to go to Columbia (rather than Harvard, Yale, etc).

Columbia is the birthplace of the Communist movement in the United States. John Reed, Rosa Luxembourg, et al had their meeting, their coffees right there on 116th and Amsterdam. It remains to this day the vibrant epicenter of the movement. The Communist Worker’s Daily is the largest distributed paper on campus after the school’s free daily.

If you recall, the gentleman that Obama’s grandfather ‘chose’ to be his African American role model, Frank Marshall Davis (who he cites in his books), chairman of the Hawaii Communist Party.

Next. Despite the press’s stories to the contrary, Obama has long ties, largely through, again, his grandparents, Davis and Valerie Jarret’s families, with yes, Bill Ayers.

And again, despite the press to the contrary, Ayers admission to Columbia just a few years after the planned bombing of Low Library was publicized and criticized all over the campus. His presence was well known and heavily documented. Jarrett’s father and Ayer’s father were best friends.

  97. ““I have seen very emphatic and robust support — and financial support — from the Jewish community,” Rudy said, adding Obama received “significant financial participation from the Jewish community” at two fund-raisers in Austin, before the Middle East speech, that brought in roughly $2 million.””

  98. The Republican establishment got rid of Trump and now they have nothing.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0511/55424.html

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels told supporters in a midnight email early Sunday that he is opting against a 2012 presidential run, a decision that he said ultimately came down to family concerns.

The decision by the former political operative and favorite of much of the GOP establishment will again roil the unsettled GOP field—and likely intensify efforts to convince another major candidate to join the race, such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The Daniels email, obtained by POLITICO, went out from Indiana GOP chief Eric Holcomb, a key Daniels adviser, soon after midnight, with the word “Urgent” in the subject line.

“The following is from Governor Mitch Daniels….” the email began.

“I hope this reaches you before the public news does,” Daniels wrote. “If so, please respect my confidence for the short time until I can make it known to all.”

He went on, “The counsel and encouragement I received from important citizens like you caused me to think very deeply about becoming a national candidate. In the end, I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one, but that, the interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all. If I have disappointed you, I will always be sorry.”

The email, which went to a list of supporters but not the Indiana GOP’s broader email list, was unusual — pols who bow out of campaigns rarely choose to announce it just after midnight on a Saturday.

But it was a reminder that Daniels has always tended to march to the beat of his own political drum, keep his own counsel and do things his own way.

Daniels’ wife, Cheri, was widely known to be concerned about the impact a campaign would have on their lives, which have followed an unusual path. Cheri Daniels left her husband and their four young daughters in 1993, married a former sweetheart in California, then returned and remarried Daniels – a set of circumstances that the pair would be unable to avoid talking about in the crucible of a campaign.

“If you feel that this was a non-courageous or unpatriotic decision, I understand and will not attempt to persuade you otherwise. I only hope that you will accept my sincerity in the judgment I reached,” he wrote.

“Many thanks for your help and input during this period of reflection. Please stay in touch if you see ways in which an obscure Midwestern governor might make a constructive contribution to the rebuilding of our economy and our Republic.”

The decision by Daniels, which he stretched on for a month past the close of the Indiana legislative session, ends a season of dithering about his 2012 intentions. His Hamlet-of-the-Heartland contortions about whether to run, combined with public statements showing something less than a fire in the belly, had started to make even his supporters uncomfortable.

The late-night move ensures Daniels’ decision will be the focus of the Sunday morning talk shows – as opposed to speculation about whether he would pull the trigger on a campaign.

  99. The GOP has Willard, who looks like he’ll be their anointed one given his establishment credentials.

  100. Job creation limps along after recession
Nearly two years after the economic recovery officially began, job creation continues to stagger at the slowest post-recession rate since the Great Depression. The nation has 5% fewer jobs today — a loss of 7 million — than it did when the recession began in December 2007. That is by far the worst performance of job generation following any of the dozen recessions since the 1930s. In the past, the economy recovered lost jobs 13 months on average after a recession. If this were a typical recovery, nearly 10 million more people would be working today than when the recession officially ended in June 2009.

“There’s still a lot of uncertainty about the economic recovery, and many companies that would like to hire are reluctant to do so because they’re not confident sales will pick up and remain strong,” says Jerry Conover, director of the Indiana Business Research Center. This unique recession has been particularly unfriendly to job-seekers, experts say. “There was too much employment in housing, and that isn’t coming back — and frankly shouldn’t come back,” says Amar Bhide, a Tufts University professor. The housing collapse and productivity gains on the factory floor have made it hard for the economy to absorb workers without a college degree and young people generally, says Carl Camden, president of Kelly Services, a global staffing firm. Manufacturers are producing more value than ever in the USA with a fraction of the workers needed before, he says.

How the recovery is reshaping employment:
•Winners. Health care added 449,000 jobs during the 18-month downturn and 483,000 jobs in the 22 months since.
•Losers. Construction lost 2 million jobs — 1.6 million during the recession and 400,000 during the recovery.
•Biggest swing. Auto manufacturing, saved by a government bailout, had the biggest turnaround, from a 35% job loss in the recession to a 6% gain after it ended. That means 332,000 jobs lost, followed by 42,000 recovered.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/may/21/obama-cameron-pre-1967-palestinian-borders?CMP=twt_fd

“Despite the outright rejection by the Israeli premier, Binyamin Netanyahu, of a Palestinian state based on the borders that existed before the Six Day War, when Israel captured and occupied the West Bank and Gaza, Obama has already secured the political backing of the United Nations, European Union and Russia who, with America, are collectively known as the “quartet”.

Signalling his determination to keep up pressure on Israel, Obama will be looking to enlist the public support of the UK prime minister. The aim is, in large part, to persuade the Palestinian leadership not to go to the UN in September seeking symbolic backing for an independent state.

The coming meeting between the two men follows evidence of a hardening of criticism of Israel by London. “

  105. This would be an excellent time for Hillary to break from Obama….to take a strong stand on Israel and then speak out about all the other “differences of opinion”. Time to let democrats that there have a choice.

I think the historical information could be invaluable to Hillary. Like the fact that the British turned over Israel’s Land Trust to the UN under a vote of 51 countries. This (latest) Quartet Obama keeps speaking about may be useless as a weapon forcing Israel to cede it’s land to the terrorist Muslims. Land they have been offered over and over again when Israel was being formed. They repeatedly refused instead preferring ethic cleansing as their only viable solution.

  114. I want to preface my statements by saying that I believe only Israels have the right and will decide their fate. They put their lives behind their policies every day and all Israelis serve right after High School with few exemptions. It is a citizen’s military.
My own views on making consessions for peace have hardened considerably, especially after Israel giving up Gaza. They received NOTHING in return…..just a more dangerous situation.
People who think that Israel will be forced into some imposed settlement do not, I believe, understand the Jewish and Israeli position……Never again. Never again will Jews be annilated without a fight, never agian will they be defenseless before an enemy. Remember the history of Masada. Israel has the ability and power to do great damage to an enemy and they will use if if they are ever that endangered. In the meantime, they will try to seek peace. But without peace seeking partners I expect little. Unfortunately, like bullies, the only thing the arabs understand is a show of strength.

It really is time for Hillary to distance herself from this administrations policies. Many Jews that I know who still support O are lukewarm. They say that he was the lesser of 2 evils. Depending on who the Rethus run, they would vote for O again if confronted with a too conservative candidate. Non jews who support obama still like him without reservation which is frightening to me. I was talking with 2 Southern women recently….Big Hillary supporters…people who lived thru the civil rights marches…and they are hard core Dems. They have no problem with Obama.

  115. I think the historical information could be invaluable to Hillary.

Let us get real. It is unlikely that Hillary and the state dept experts (or the experts she consults with) would not know about all this historical information.

  121. Unreality Diplomacy

    May 20, 2011
    By David Pryce-Jones

President Obama’s latest thoughts about the Middle East add to the confusion that seems to be his special contribution to American policy. It is right to support Arabs and Muslims who are in the street demanding justice and freedom. Unfortunately, Obama is too late in the day to have much practical effect. He should have spoken out two years ago, when the Iranian extremists rigged their election and fired on demonstrators, just as he should have spoken out two or three months ago when the Syrian president Bashar Assad started to kill his people.

In both cases, silence indicated that Obama’s heart wasn’t in it. To say now that Assad must make a transition to democracy or “get out of the way” is just verbiage.

What transition? And how is he to get out of the way without being helped at gunpoint to do so? And there is no explanation of the utterly mysterious approach to Libya; Obama demanded that Qaddafi get out of the way but refuses to implement such a policy.

Obama has infuriated the Saudis, which in itself is no bad thing; the kingdom is monstrously unjust and unfree. But when he omits any mention of the Saudis themselves and comes down heavily on their little dependency of Bahrain for shooting protesters, he’s either resorting to hypocrisy in the hope everyone will understand that American national interests have priority over morality, or he’s just unaware of reality.

Unawareness of reality is the least that can be said about his approach to Israel and Palestine. His promotion of the Palestinians rests on the pretense that their state would be normal. In fact, the Palestine Authority is only a miniature version of the usual one-man tyranny that millions of Arabs are now doing their utmost to reject.

Moreover, the rivalry between Islamist Hamas and the quasi-secular rival Fatah is already a civil war in embryo, and their agreement to cooperate is a stage in the power struggle between them. Never mind that previous American presidents committed the United States to support border revisions and land swaps; no Israeli government can possibly agree to return to the pre-1967 borders.

Besides, if more than a million Arabs live in Israel, why is the future state of Palestine permitted to declare that it will be Jew-free?

Obama advises Israel to be bold. “Bold” here means dividing Jerusalem, leaving the West Bank and in particular the Jordan valley in hostile hands, and it is really a euphemism for risking Israel’s security.

His heart is evidently engaged in promoting the Palestinian cause, and it won’t take much more for this to end in another bout of armed conflict.

According to Stop the War Coalition, the demonstration titled as “Stop the Obama Wars” will be held outside Buckingham Palace at 17:30 GMT, exactly when the US president is to meet Queen Elizabeth for the full ceremonial welcome and banquet.

Stop the War revealed that anti war groups would welcome the US “War President” with protests, since he is the one who is paying for three wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

“In just two years, the Nobel Peace Prize winner has attacked six countries — two more than George W. Bush. He is spending more on the US military than any president in history,” Stop the War said.

In his three-day visit to Britain before heading to G8 summit in France, Obama will meet UK Prime Minister David Cameron. He will also address both Houses of Parliament.

  125. Pre-1967 Borders for Israel? Why Our President is Dangerous

    May 20, 2011

Pre-1967 Borders for Israel? Why Our President is Dangerous.

    – I am dumbfounded. Pre 1967 border for Israel? Obama, in announcing a Middle peace plan which pushes Israel back to pre-1967 borders, clearly has no interest in calming the Middle East situation. He is like a mad king out of control- and we, the sorry subjects must watch helplessly as this man takes our country- and the world- into chaos, bloodshed and calamity.

Never have I regretted our four year presidential terms before. But no president has ever shown such little regard for his own country before. Never has any one president acted so quickly and rashly to ensure the utter destruction of our nation’s health and power in the world.

Up until this president, I and the rest of America, believed one basic tenet about every presidential candidate: that each and every one of them loved their country. And at the very least, we believed that any president would be constrained by self interest to acting in our behalf. After all, doesn’t every president want to be re-elected? We so arrogantly believed that to be the president of our great nation, to be the most powerful man on earth, would surely be the epitome of any man’s ambition. In our innocent naiveté, we simply never entertained the idea that there could be a man who would wish to be president for the sole purpose of destroying our nation. But that, my friends, has surely come to pass. For Obama has other plans for our nation, for the world and for himself.

President Obama’s speech today is proof that:

This President Has No Intention of Securing USA Interests in the Middle East.

He states that in order to have USA support, Israel must withdraw to pre 1967 borders!

… Knowing that the pre-1967 borders allowed them to be attacked, unprovoked, by at least 11 Arab countries in the 6 Day Israeli-Arab War.

… Knowing that every attempted peace accord was sabotaged by terrorist Arab factions who then and now refuse to even acknowledge Israel’s right to exist.

Imagine that. The Arab world cannot even say that Israel has a right to exist- when it has been in existence for 65 years! This shows a recalcitrance, a stubbornness, and a complete lack of reality on the part of the Arab world. That is comparable to some Mexicans who believe they have a right to own Texas. Or Native Americans who still believe they are the rightful owners of the United States. They can believe it all they want, but it sure will never be. They got whooped, plain & simple. Now they need to live with it and move on.

The Arabs lost their bid for that land. Israel literally kicked their 11 national butts in six, measly, embarrassing days . Not only are the Israelis dominant in military force, but they are dominant economically. Further, they have won the right, morally, to own that land. For they, at the minimum, have earned squatters rights. Was it the Palestinians who built this modern nation out of blistering sand? Was it the Palestinians who came together and built one of the greatest, freest and richest democratic capitalistic societies the world has ever seen? And in only 65 years? The Palestinian nomads had hundreds of years to make something of this desert land. They did nothing but fight among themselves, insist on ignorance and refused- either from religious beliefs or sheer laziness, to do anything to enrich their land whatsoever. They were plain, out and out, backward. And none of these Arab countries cared one cent about the land. No one had ever laid political claim over the area- they simply left it as an occupied territory of the British.

    _________________________

A perfect example of well meaning revisionist history. When the British withdrew from the ME they allocated portions of land from their spoils of war naming countries as they were distributed as they are known today. The particular land ceded to Israel from the British was turned over to the UN in a Land Trust with 51 countries voting, mandating the land known as Trans-Jordan with boundaries allocated to Israel that can never be revoked or touched. It isn’t through squatters rights as is the contemporary way of thinking the Jews inherited Israel, but from a mandate guaranteed by 51 countries voting unanimously at the UN the land belongs in perpetuity to Israel from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea.

Will Obama Get Booed by AIPAC?

Analyses of Obama’s Middle East speech and subsequent meeting with Netanyahu are conflicting. Ha’aretz described this weekend’s events as a “crisis” while Ma’ariv wrote that Obama and Netanyahu’s relationship has reached the point of “open war.”

Other analysts, like Barry Rubin, write that Obama’s speech was not intended to bash Israel and that a Palestinian state based on ‘1967 borders’ is not in fact a new U.S. policy, but that Obama is so tone deaf on the subject of Israel that he managed to rankle its supporters without meaning to.

Former Clinton aide Aaron David Miller concurs, saying that Obama and Netanyahu “are on different planets.”

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that prominent American Jews are publicly denouncing the president.

“He has in effect sought to reduce Israel’s negotiation power and I condemn him for that,” former New York Mayor Ed Koch told Reuters.

“I have spoken to a lot of people in the last couple of days — former supporters — who are very upset and feel alienated,” billionaire real estate developer and publisher Mortimer Zuckerman said.

There is even a fear that Obama may get booed when he speaks to the annual AIPAC conference tonight.

“President Obama will receive a very respectful reception when he speaks at the AIPAC policy conference. He is, after all, the leader of the free world, and his presence at the conference speaks to the importance of the US-Israel relationship – irrespective of whatever ups and downs there may be on any given day or week,” William Daroff, director of the Washington office of the Jewish Federations of North America, told the Jerusalem Post.

“I am certain there will be a concerted effort by the crowd to vigorously applaud and give standing ovations when President Obama makes particularly pro-Israel statements,” he continued.

Though he added, “I’m also fairly certain that, despite warnings and attempts at discipline, when the president makes statements that are not pleasing to the crowd, there will inevitably be murmurings and booing by some in attendance.”

Exactly. I always equate the tiny state of Israel with the story of “the little engine that could.” In spite of terrorist activities at every turn, anti-semitic hatred to the extreme, Israel has built a vibrant economy. It is the envy of those enemies who would seek to destroy it.

See what happens when you negotiate in public? Now the terrorist organization Hamas/fatah are openly demanding Isreal return Jeruseleum, no doubt Hamas/Fatah will do it what they did to the church of nativity.

Waffles has now piled on Isreal, making it a-ok for the rest of the ME to attack Isreal, even more so now that they know Israel cannot turn to the US for help. So Hamas and Waffles are on the same side against Israel.

Every American Jew that voted for this piece of crap in the WH should hang their head in shame. And yes, I feel that strongly, never in a million years did I think american jews would be stupid enough to vote for a man who sat in a church listening to God D*mn America sermons and listening to anti-sematic speeches.

Very well said. That is what Bibi tried to tell Obama. Hillary said one time that her father taught her to take what people say with a grain of salt and instead watch what they do. When Obama throws Israel to the wolves, says Israel has the right to defend itself by itself (I think that was the circumlocution de jour), why should anyone who lives in the same world as most of us believe him when he says the bond between his administration and Israel is . . . “unshakable”. It is as unshakable as an apple tree in a hurricane which he delights to call Arab Spring. And, of course, I agree that Hillary must begin distancing herself from this Administration, and do so overtly as opposed to covertly. You cannot dance with the devil.

    Mrs. Smith,

Thank you very much for the link. I was aware of most of the information there but it makes for an excellent review.

As far as whether Hillary knows this or not, sending her information of this nature is more to show her that there are those of us who do not agree with what obama’s demands. Pressuring, a politician, with honest data, is never a bad thing.
    _________________________

Exactly- JanH. Hillary’s reality is a full plate of problems in the ME with Wars breaking out at every turn. What is unique about the link I provided is that it isn’t based on biases or one man’s opinion for or against Israel or Palestine. The information is based on FACT- facts that may have been forgotten or unknown in the 21st century because (as the example I posted today @ 11:49) the common assumption is Israel exists because it successfully defended itself and has existed for 65yrs. Long before 1946 decisions were made as to the disposition of the land allocated to Israel and reason enough to move the president off the 1967 chant asking for boundary placement existing then not taking into account how Israel has flourished growing in population expanding within it’s granted boundaries clearly defined between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea.

Some people more than others are not familiar with how the Clintons think. They never refuse good viable information for review or pointing out forgotten facts that have not been taken into account in a long term strategy.

Remembering in 1999 when I was seeking information on the requirements for forming a Non-Profit Corporation while reading 13 vols of the then existing Uniform Commercial Code and checking on current IRS Regulations what is necessary to be in compliance. It was in the IRS Regulations I discovered it is against the IRS Code for Non-profits to submit political donations to a candidate running for office.

I submitted my discovery and the information to the DNC and prevented the Republicans from using their Non-Profit set ups to continue funneling money to their candidates for the 2000 election. That is when and how PAC’S were born into the nuance of mainstream political donations.

I don’t assume to know what Hillary does or does not know. There is no harm done in her reading a great dissemination of Facts from Myth going back to Israel’s original beginnings.

Are there any groups: blacks, young people, Jews, women, working class, blue collar workers, or gays that voted for Ubama that have not gotten a knife in the back by him?

I wonder how many of the people we tried to warn in our personal lives, that voting for Barry was a HUGE mistake, are thinking about our very words now and can’t look us in the eye?

Rub salt in their wounds every time they bellyache, remind them of their part in this mess and it is their vote in the future that can start to repair the damage.

Barry is due for a big slap of Karma.

  134. They have no problem with Obama.

For the young and impressionable, and the well heeled and impressionable Obama is a fashion statement. For them, the issues are secondary or tertiary import. As to the latter group, they are like the character Hanna in the Neil Simon movie California Suite who buys a $500 pair of slacks so she can go out and raise $100 for the Farmworkers. Fortunately for the rest of us, there are not enough of these people to make an electoral difference. Money is their only leverage.

  135. 2007: at AIPAC

    2011: at AIPAC (today)
waffles said: ““We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.. “”
and then he says essentially the agreement with Bush in 2004 is null and void,
    from Bush’s agreement to Israel:
““As part of a final peace settlement, Israel must have secure and recognized borders, which should emerge from negotiations between the parties in accordance with UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338. In light of new realities on the ground, including already existing major Israeli populations centers, it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949, and all previous efforts to negotiate a two-state solution have reached the same conclusion. It is realistic to expect that any final status agreement will only be achieved on the basis of mutually agreed changes that reflect these realities.”

Bush had clearly committed to back Israel’s position that sovereignty in 100% of the land occupied in the Six Day War by Israel would not be ceded in any ultimate peace settlement.”

So, essentially DO NOT EVER EVER TRUST WAFFLES on anything, by next year Waffles will be all gushy towards the American Jews, who will no doubt fall for this idiot– people like Spielburg, Mort Zuckerman, fundraise for him, and then complain later, and next time around the complaints will be on deaf ears, he only needs their money one more time for 2012.

  138. Israel’s Leader Denies Crisis With U.S.–according to whom? Associated Press. At this point, we know for a fact that Associated Press is joined at the hip with Obama and that this unholy alliance goes all the way back to the primary when their editor, a NYT whore dispatched Beth Fouhey to attack Hillary and other jouranlists to coronate Obama. Don’t tell me this did not happen–I was there. I do not think an open rift between the United States is such a good thing given the provokative moves by Iran, Syria and within Egypt. It goes beyond the prospects for skuttling the Palstinian negotiations. Therefore, Bibi is wise to mitigate the rhetoric. But inside Israel I suspect the feelings against Obama personally, as opposed to the United States run very strong, and that they are not about to take moral lessons from American Jews who are not on the line of fire.

They are like abused, battered spouses who nevertheless find excuses for his appalling behavior and stick by him no matter what.

  141. Remarks made by President Obama at the State Department in Washington on 19 May indicate he is prepared to honour some – but not all – commitments made to Israel by former American President George W Bush in his letter to Israeli Prime Minister Sharon on 14 April 2004 (the Bush Letter).

President Obama first stressed the following points:

    1. It is up to the Israelis and Palestinians to take action. No peace can be imposed upon them — not by the United States; not by anybody else.

    2. What America and the international community can do is to state frankly what everyone knows — a lasting peace will involve two states for two peoples: Israel as a Jewish state and the homeland for the Jewish people, and the state of Palestine as the homeland for the Palestinian people, each state enjoying self-determination, mutual recognition, and peace.

President Obama was indeed confirming America’s written commitment to Israel in the Bush Letter
“The United States is strongly committed to Israel’s security and well-being as a Jewish state.”
This commitment – made now by two American Presidents to Israel – has been repeatedly rejected by the Palestinian Authority, Fatah, the PLO, Hamas and the Arab League. But it is a commitment that America has no intention of abandoning.

However President Obama ignored another commitment in the Bush Letter when he then told his State Department audience:
“We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states..”

This statement is contrary to the following statement appearing in the Bush Letter:
“As part of a final peace settlement, Israel must have secure and recognized borders, which should emerge from negotiations between the parties in accordance with UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338.

Bush had clearly committed to back Israel’s position that sovereignty in 100% of the land occupied in the Six Day War by Israel would not be ceded in any ultimate peace settlement.
Obama was obviously trying to wheedle his way out of this Bush commitment by some semantic toe stepping. – suggesting that

    1. any loss of such territory to Israel could be compensated by an equivalent swap of existing Israeli sovereign territory and

    2. this swap could still lead to the creation of secure borders for Israel.

Israel was certainly not prepared to let Obama back peddle from the terms of the Bush Letter .

The Israeli rebuttal was swift and came just one day later when Israel’s Prime Minster told President Obama during a meeting at the White House:

“ I think for there to be peace, the Palestinians will have to accept some basic realities. The first is that while Israel is prepared to make generous compromises for peace, it cannot go back to the 1967 lines — because these lines are indefensible; because they don’t take into account certain changes that have taken place on the ground, demographic changes that have taken place over the last 44 years.”

Those concerned to ensure that American Presidential commitments made to third parties are honored and upheld by their successors should be as equally worried as Israel at Obama’s apparent attempt to breach such a fundamental Presidential commitment.

The price Israel paid to secure the Bush Letter was its decision to unilaterally disengage from Gaza in 2005. This disengagement exposed Israel’s civilian population living in its southern region to the threat of continuing indiscriminate missile and terrorist attacks from Gaza without any Israeli military forces being retained in Gaza any more to prevent, defend and respond to any such attacks. 8000 Israeli citizens were forced to evacuate their homes and businesses established in Gaza over the preceding 38 years.

This is indeed what happened after Israel disengaged from Gaza in 2005 – with disastrous consequences for both civilian populations in Israel and Gaza and for those 8000 Israelis who had evacuated Gaza..

Jeopardizing its security on the entire Gaza front required Israel to be absolutely assured of American commitment to Israel’s security on the West Bank front. That assessment saw the refusal to cede sovereignty in 100% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as being non-negotiable.

America’s decision to stand by and support Israel on this fundamental territorial issue is critical.
Israel’s Government in 2008 had unsuccessfully explored the possibility of land swaps with the Palestinian Authority – but those negotiations ended inconclusively and are now in total lock down.
Exploring land swaps might again be considered by Israel in future negotiations. The current Israeli Government shows no intention to do so. But that will have to be Israel’s decision – not America’s.
America’s view – now or later – regarding land swaps is irrelevant under the Bush Letter.

President Obama’s statement will no doubt be seen by some to indicate a shift in America’s position – perhaps made in an attempt to induce the Palestinian Authority to resume the stalled negotiations with Israel.

Obama’s position will be viewed by Israel and its supporters as a shift that does no honor to America and badly damages its reputation and integrity.

The Bush commitment was made for an Israeli commitment that has resulted in the death, injury and traumatisation of tens of thousands of Israelis.

Obama’s attempt to minimize or modify that commitment in any way must be firmly and publicly resisted by Israel and its supporters in the American Congress – which had voted overwhelmingly in favor of President Bush signing the Bush Letter in the first place.

Doing so will certainly help restore America’s reputation for honesty and transparency in its dealings with third parties – and for standing by and remaining staunchly committed to the decisions of its Presidents.

Aren’t these indeed cardinal democratic principles which Obama – as leader of the world’s leading democracy – is sworn to uphold?

  142. Netanyahu is one of 12 Mid East leaders saying no to Obama
DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis May 20, 2011, 7:38 PM (GMT+02:00) Tags: Barack Obama Binyamin Netanyahu Mahmoud Abbas Middle East

Binyamin Netanyahu locks horns with Barack Obama
By rejecting US President Barack Obama’s proposal for Israel and its troops to pull back from the West Bank to behind the indefensible 1967 lines, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu lands in the company of eleven Middle East and North African rulers who spurned Washington’s Middle East policy in the six months of the unfolding Arab uprising. Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak was the only one to keep faith with Obama and he was pushed out for his pains.
Barack Obama’s presentation of his Middle East vision Thursday, May 19 had three immediate results:
    1. Every surviving regional leader was confirmed in his determination to keep his distance from US administration policies;
    2. Another nail was driven in the coffin of the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process;
    3. The fuel that was poured on regional tensions increased the prospects of an Israel-Palestinian or an Israeli-Arab war this year.
No Israeli politician can afford to back away from the demand that Israel retain a security presence and defensible borders along its eastern boundary and, even more so, on the West Bank in any future peace accord. This fundamental principle was not denied by opposition leaders Tzipi Livni and Shaul Mofaz even as they poured boiling oil on the prime minister’s head for getting into an argument with the US president.
But this repudiation is exactly what Obama wants.
The notion that Israel can achieve security through peace talks is a pipe dream because no Palestinian negotiator will think of seeking fewer concessions from Israel than the ones laid down by the US president. He will simply use the speech as a starting-point for the biggest squeeze Israel has ever faced.
Obama saw this maxim played out in his first two years in office: First, he said Netanyahu must freeze West Bank settlement construction. The Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, when he first heard about it, found the demand absurd – it had never been put to any former prime minister either by Washington or the Palestinians. But after Obama led the way, Abbas could demand no less. So he shrugged and turned this demand into a useful pretext in his maneuvers for wriggling out of talking to Israel.
The Israeli Prime Minister after practically begging the Palestinians to sit down and talk for two years has now put his foot down against the new Obama proposals. If he stands by this refusal, he leaves the vast region stretching across the Middle East, the Persian Gulf and North Africa without a single political, military or royal ruler willing to accept Obama’s new policy principles. The only possible exception may be Turkish Prime Minster Tayyip Erdogan.
The regional anti-Obama opposition falls into two camps:
The largest consists of eight former American allies, some of them ex-strategic partners, which is headed by the Saudi royal family.
A leading Saudi spokesman Nawaf Obaid brought the Riyadh-Washington rupture out in the open for the first time on May 16 in the form of a Washington Post op-ed.
“In some issues, such as counterterrorism and efforts to fight money laundering, the Saudis will continue to be a strong US partner,” he wrote. “In areas in which Saudi national security or strategic interests are at stake, the kingdom will pursue its own agenda. The oil for security formula is history… The special relationship may never be the same…”
Saudi King Abdullah has already swept the half a dozen GCC (Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf) behind the separate security and strategic policies he is pursuing independently of the US and often diametrically opposed to Obama’s course. He has invited Jordan, Morocco and Yemen to join the group.
The suggestion put by Jordanian monarch Abdullah II to Obama this week that the US transfer its sponsorship of the Israel-Palestinian issue to the GCC underscored the rising power of the new Gulf grouping and was firmly rejected.
The second camp consists of four anti-US Arab rulers, Syria’s Bashar Assad, the Libyan Muammar Qaddaf, President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen and King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa of Bahrain, who have resorted to armed violence to suppress the pro-democracy movements sponsored by President Obama.
Saudi Arabia is propping the Bahraini and Yemen regimes up with cash, arms, military assistance and intelligence. All four are determined to do whatever it takes to avoid the fate that befell Hosni Mubarak.
The only leaders who until Thursday, May 19, stood out against joining both those camps were the military council ruling Egypt and the Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas.
The generals in Cairo nod obediently when faced with demands from Washington and do nothing.
The Palestinian leader called the Obama speech “disappointing” in that no timeline or diplomatic mechanisms were offered. The US President poured scorn on Abbas’ plan to seek unilateral UN recognition of Palestinian statehood in September, hoping to shut the door on yet another ploy for avoiding peace talks with Israel. The Palestinian leader may well defy him.
Abbas, even after losing his key patron Mubarak, is still juggling several balls in the hope of pushing Israel into a corner. Netanyahu, for his part, having stayed passive in the face of the new currents blowing in from Washington and the Arab revolt, has reached crunch time with the US president without strong cards.
A falling-out between the White House and the Israeli prime minister will also box Abbas into a choice of which anti-Obama Arab camp to jump into – the group led by Saudi Arabia or the Syrian group which also includes Hamas with whom he has just signed a unity pact.
In the long run, that pact may have saddled him with undesirable options

This is why Obama is going to the UK in the next few days. He is trying to whip up support knowing the land Israel occupies was given to them by the British before they withdrew their colonies from the ME. It will be there he learns about the UN Mandate for Israel. The British do not forget their history and will be the first to tell him why they can offer him no help because they handed over the responsibility to the UN… and why, now, more than ever it is critical the link I posted earlier gets into Hillary’s hands. The UN mandate to Israel, apparently is not common knowledge otherwise Obama would have convened with Soros’ controlled UN, plan in hand to revoke Israel’s mandate instead of meeting with the power structure of the UK.

  144. “Every surviving regional leader was confirmed in his determination to keep his distance from US administration policies;”

After they saw what was done to Mubarack, who while a dictorator, but he kept all the radicals in check & was a very strong US ally for over 30 years, why would any surviving ME leader trust Waffles one inch now?

“The fuel that was poured on regional tensions increased the prospects of an Israel-Palestinian or an Israeli-Arab war this year.”
Agreed, by pushing this all in the open, people on both sides have no reason to compromise, the speech should have been kept general and it should have made no, none, mention of the Israel/Palestian conflict. A war is much more likely now because of all this, frankly I don’t even understand why Waffles gave this speech in the first place? especially one day before Bibi came to DC, was it to upstage Bibi? what was the point of this entire speech, the arab conflict has been going on for a while now, why give such an abrasive and divisive speech 1 day before the PM of Israel arrives.

Waffles just just poured fuel over this entire thing and then is running away to drink some beer in Ireland.

  145. Before pro-Israel lobby, Obama defends vision for Mideast peace

    By Peter Nicholas, Washington Bureau

    May 22, 2011, 10:57 a.m.
    Reporting from Washington—

Appearing before a pro-Israel audience, President Obama said Sunday the world won’t stand for more delays in forging Middle East peace and reaffirmed his support for an accord based partly on boundary lines in place before Israel made territorial gains in the 1967 war.

There were scattered boos at the gathering of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee when Obama called for borders tracking the 1967 lines, with mutually agreeable land swaps.

Overall, Obama got a polite reception from members of the pro-Israel lobby, with the crowd clapping frequently. But the applause was more spirited when an earlier speaker mentioned that Netanyahu would address the conference on Monday night.

Obama sought to jumpstart a stalled peace process by calling for the Israelis and Palestinians to take part in direct talks leading to two secure, neighboring states.

Obama first invoked the ’67 lines in a major speech on Thursday, sparking fierce criticism from some Republican presidential hopefuls that he was abandoning Israel. That address created an awkward moment in the Oval Office the next day, when visiting Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the pre-war lines are “indefensible.’’

“What I did on Thursday was to say publicly what has long been acknowledged privately,’’ said Obama, speaking before more than 10,000 at the AIPAC conference. “I have done so because we can’t afford to wait another decade, or another two decades, or another three decades, to achieve peace. The world is moving too fast. The world is moving too fast. The extraordinary challenges facing Israel will only grow. Delay will undermine Israel’s security and the peace that the Israeli people deserve.”

The ’67 boundary lines have been the framework for Middle East negotiations for a decade, though Obama is the first president to publicly pronounce the old map as the basis of a future deal.

Obama said he knew that his remarks last week would prove controversial. Mentioning two of his former politically savvy White House advisors, Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, he said: “I know very well that the easy thing to do, particularly for a president preparing for re-election, is to avoid any controversy. I don’t need Rahm to tell me that. I don’t need Axelrod to tell me that. But I said to Prime Minister Netanyahu, I believe that the current situation in the Middle East does not allow for procrastination. I also believe that real friends talk openly and honestly with each other.’’

News reports of his speech Thursday have been misleading, Obama said. The U.S. does not want an Israel with boundary lines mirroring what was in place the day before the Six Day War began in June 1967, Obama said. Land swaps, he said, would accommodate security needs and demographic changes that have taken place over the last 44 years.

In an interview after Obama was done speaking, a White House senior advisor gave some insight into why the president has chosen this moment to lay out a specific formula for a peace accord. The aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that talks between the Israelis and Palestinians have foundered in part because “there was no clear foundation for them.’’

“The principles he (Obama) described on security and territory can provide a strong foundation for when talks do start,’’ the aide said.

What’s more, Obama’s gambit has the potential to head off a possible Palestinian attempt to gain statehood unilaterally through a direct appeal to the United Nations, the aide said.

“These principles can to steer the international community away from a unilateral agreement,’’ the aide said.

Obama repeated his assurance that the U.S. won’t forsake Israel, remarks that led to a standing ovation.

He said “the bonds between the United States and Israel are unbreakable and the commitment of the United States to the security of Israel is ironclad.’’

Not everyone in the audience was reassured. Don Dubin of Philadelphia, a member of AIPAC, said in an interview afterward:

“He gave a very good speech. It was disarming, seductive. I don’t know if his heart is the right place. My concern is that he may fold in a crisis. I don’t think he’s been out front in his support.”

  146. Obama quote: “We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps…”

This sounds to me like yet another instance where Obama is voting present. The 1967 borders part gets people riled up, but “mutually agreed swaps” can mean anything or nothing. (Probably nothing, because when do the Israelis and the Palestinians ever have a mutal agreement about anything? So everyone ends up right back where they started.)

  147. Ms. Smith – professional ethics, protecting people’s privacy, and objecting to the manipulation of people with false “proof” are not “nits”. That the kind of outlook that unethical Chicago politicians would have – it speaks volumes.

  148. JtM

Agree- Obama is trying to run a line down the middle. He needs those donations from the Jewish community so he must appear as the concerned benevolent Ombudsman whose only mission in Life is
to facilitate Peace in the Middle East.

As soon as he WINS re-election in 2012, the next 4 yrs will be a living Hell for Israelis. With nothing to stop him from using the collective power of the US with the Quartet at his back along with the power of the UN council voiding all prior agreements between the UN and with Israel. Then through an EX Order, the US see to it that Israel reverts back to 1967 boundaries.

Correcting President Obama: 242 does not set the size of the land mass under Arab control

    Sunday, May 22, 2011 1:41

Dr. Aaron Lerner – IMRA 22 May 2011

Speaking at the AIPAC Conference in Washington President Obama argued that by mentioning land swaps, President Obama did not actually call for Israel to withdraw to the indefensible ’67 lines since Israel can trade [off huge chunks of the Negev] to avoid the ’67 line.

But that’s not really the point.

The point is that President Obama handed the Palestinians a tremendous concession by embracing the Palestinian assertion that it somehow has the implicit right to every square millimeter beyond the Green Line and thus must be compensated on a 1:1 basis for any adjustment to the line so that the final land mass under its control remains the same.

This was not – repeat not – the meaning of UNSC 242.

And the record on this is absolutely clear.

The framers of 242 were well aware that secure borders for Israel would be achieved by Israel retaining territory beyond the ’67 lines – and this without any requirement of some quid pro quo in return to the Arabs to somehow compensate for the retention of said land.

There is no reference in the series of Oslo documents, that serve as the basis and framework continuing from 242, to the concept that the size of the land mass to be ultimately under Palestinian control is not subject to negotiation.

    Again.

Let there be no confusion here.

Israel never asked President Obama to say that he endorses Israel swapping the Negev for parts of the West Bank.

Israel has instead every right to make it crystal clear that we completely reject attempts to change the rules of the game – in particular after we have made so very many extremely painful and expensive concessions based on promises and commitments regarding the rules of the game.

Let’s not forget that the tens of thousands of assault rifle armed Palestinians are deployed today in the West Bank along with many thousands of rockets in the Gaza Strip along with Israeli graveyards packed with “sacrifices for peace” because we decided to take a chance for peace and lifted Yasser Arafat from the dung heap of history – bringing him from his exile in Tunis. Israel’s security situation at the time was nothing short of fantastic.

Each month the size of the “terrorist wanted list” got shorter as Israeli security forces captured or killed terrorists faster that the Arabs could produce new one.

Nothing on the Arab side compelled Israel to agree to Oslo.

President Obama argues that some previously democratically elected Israeli Governments engaged in negotiations that reflected the concept that any change from the ’67 lines would be offset with transferring sovereign Israeli land to the Palestinians.

    But that’s not the point.

    These negotiations were not concluded.

And in point of fact, the Israelis engaged in negotiations warned their Palestinian counterparts that if they failed to cut a deal with them before Israeli elections they ran the very real risk that the Israeli democratic process would erase whatever gains they may have made in talks not finalized.

Because while we cannot rescind a treaty we have already signed via the ballot box, we can most certainly revise our negotiating positions.

And that is just what we did.

So when President Obama tells Israelis that former PM Olmert embraced the positions he now wishes to dictate, we Israelis have a simple answer: Olmert’s Kadima Party is not in power.

The Palestinians walked away from Olmert “negotiating stall” and thought he [or Livni who replaced him at the head of Kadima] would keep offering more. But instead the Israeli People spoke on Israeli election day and put a coalition headed by Binyamin Netanyahu in charge.

Israel has absolutely no obligation to promise the Palestinians that they will end up with a land mass equal in size to every square millimeter beyond the Green Line.

242, and in turn Oslo, never predetermined the size of the land mass under Palestinian control.

That, like everything else is a matter for negotiations – not American dictate.

Ms. Smith – no, it certainly wasn’t. I suspect you are trying the old tactic of, “when was the last time you beat your wife?”.

I will always stand up for ethics. You’re just digging deeper and proving my point lol

  151. Ms. Smith – what is it with you? You have to either be the queen of knowledge or you have to fight with people. Guess what, you’re like everyone else, and you’re not always right. And people have different opinions. It’s time to open up, lose the rigidity, and learn to deal with that. It’s also time to move on to fighting with someone else. I’m not one of the people you will silence with the overbearing behavior, but neither am I the underachiever in MY family, and I have more important things to do than deal with your taking everything personally and trying to fight to the death. I love discussion, but not in the context of this pathology.

  152. This is a surprising development. I imagine due to Obama’s ham-handed approach to completing his mission of Peace between Israel and the Palestinians… He apparently has the Quartet very nervous at Netanyahu’s confident resolute response.

    Quartet Postpones Key Meeting

    May, 22 2011

    by Sagit Levi

The Middle East Quartet, comprised of the United States, United Nations, Russia and the European Union, has reportedly put off for a month a key meeting to discuss new plans for pressing Israel to surrender Judea, Samaria and most of Jerusalem to the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.

The scheduled meeting between US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was originally planned for mid-March on the sidelines of a meeting of the G20 in Paris.

But Quartet and EU officials both confirmed on Wednesday that the meeting had been put off until sometime in April.

While Jerusalem officials have surmised that the postponement was announced in order to give Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (Likud) an opportunity to present his own plan for an Israeli withdrawal, at least one Quartet official has denied that the delay was due in any way to an expectation that Israel would present its own initiative.

The official added that Quartet meetings were scheduled in both March and April, and that for various reasons the March meeting was canceled.

One Israeli official said the delay might not have had anything to do with Israel, but rather that the members of the Quartet were a “bit preoccupied” right now with other events in the region.

Senior Israeli political figures have recently expressed concern that the Quartet may adopt a position at its next meeting demanding that Israel withdrawal from all lands won during the 1967 Six-Day War and return to the 1949 Armistice Lines.

The Quartet has until now refrained from making such demands for fear of inciting a backlash and strengthening Israeli resistance to its agenda.

Nevertheless, a lower-level Quartet delegation is due to meet Thursday in Ramallah with PA official Saeb Erekat, and the next day with Netanyahu’s envoy Yitzhak Molcho in Jerusalem.

The delegation met last week in Brussels with Erekat, but Israel had decided not to send Molcho due to a disagreement over how the official invitation was handled.

According to a Quartet official, the purpose of these meetings is to “look for ways to restart the negotiations and see where the sides stand.”

The Quartet will be represented at these meetings by US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell’s adviser David Hale, the EU’s deputy secretary-general for the new External Action Service Helga Schmid, Russian Middle East Envoy Sergei Yakovlev and UN Middle East Envoy Robert Serry.

The head of the Jerusalem office of Quartet Envoy Tony Blair, Gary Grappo, is also expected to participate.

  153. The more we dig into the UN activity going on behind the scenes- With what little new coverage make it though the Obama editing filters, much has been going on dis-inviting previously welcome Jewish organizations to the table for upcoming conferences discussing the problems associate with indigenous populations..
    _________________________

UN Fighting Indigenous Status for Jews

Two Jewish Non-Government Organizations recently discovered that they have been barred from participating in a United Nations conference dealing with issues facing indigenous peoples.

The Office of Israeli Constitutional Law (OFICL), an Israeli legal action organization, recently received notice from the UN that its registration for this year’s Conference of the United Nations Permanent forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) was being declined.

OFICL investigated the issue and subsequently discovered that another organization called the Negev Coexistence Forum for Civil Equality, an Israeli Bedouin rights organization, was also barred from attending the same conference.

After numerous calls, faxes and letters produced no results, the organization decided it had no choice but to send legal notice to the UN.

OFICL said in a statement released Sunday that it is charging Chandra Roy-Henriksen, Chief Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, with violating provisions of Declarations of Rights of Indigenous People and Universal Declarations of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Convention of the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and other UN and United States antidiscrimination laws.

“We attended last year’s conference and actually floored 12 representatives during the Conference,” said OFICL chairman Dr. Michael T. Snidecor. “I don’t have access to the actual records, but our Secretary was told that we had the largest number of representatives from outside North America at the conference.”

OFICL noted that it had stayed active with the Forum even following last year’s conference.

“The Special Rapporteur for the region said that for years the forum had tried to obtain information from the Israeli Government about complaints regarding issues with Bedouin in the Negev,” said OFICL director Mark Kaplan. “The government has never responded. So, we were able to forward a report by another organization about the situation containing studies about the serious ecological damage posed by illegal Bedouin construction and proposals on how to work with the Bedouins to solve the issues. Dr. Snidecor also created a simple online system for anonymously filing complaints of indigenous rights violations. So, we have remained an active NGO in the forum.”

The organization also explained that the legal action is required since, as Dr. Snidecor explained, “we were not given any reason for rejecting us other than saying we are ineligible under two resolutions — one of which has nothing to do with NGO qualifications. We see nothing that disqualifies us, and no one will take responsibility for the decision to reject our application.”

OFICL expressed suspicion that the UN was barring them from the conference for the sole purpose of trying to prevent the Jewish people from gaining official recognition as an indigenous population in the territory under Israeli control.

Such official recognition would have far reaching ramifications under international law and would likely protect ethnic Jews from being forcibly expelled from their lands in Israel’s Samaria and Judea regions. As part of the Middle East Quartet, the UN has been an active participant in trying to cleanse all Jews from Israel’s heartland in order to establish a Jew-free state for the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.

“The sad thing is that the indigenous tribes who attend the conference are not guilty, it is the UN employees,” said Kaplan. “Unfortunately, our taking this action may tarnish the reputation of the forum. This is not something we want to do. These are wonderful people, and they are not connected to the anti-Israel governments and policies of the UN.”

“However,” he added, “had there been a valid reason to exclude us from the conference, the UN powers-that-be should have been able to cite what the disqualifying issue is. If they cannot cite the criteria we do not meet, then it seems rather suspicious that there is something else going on here. There is no question that the Jewish people meet the UN Criteria for being considered indigenous.”

  154. American Jews are NOT hearing any of this going on behind the scenes. Obama’s soft sell speech given today at AIPAC reads nothing like what is Israel’s reaction to Obama’s new policy with Israel.

A quick quote from the very end of this article from Israel:

He added that Israel will have no choice but to enter a crisis with the American president.”

Obama Demands Israeli Retreat to 1949 Armistice Lines

    by Eitam Abadi

In a landmark speech regarding the changes sweeping the Middle East, United States President Barack Obama called for Israel to withdraw to the 1949 armistice lines in order to surrender all lands liberated from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War to the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.

In a wide-ranging address at the State Department on Thursday, Obama devoted considerable attention to pushing for an Israeli retreat, which he called “more urgent than ever.”

“We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps,” he declared. “So that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.”

Obama further criticized Jewish building in Israel’s heartland and called for a “full and phased withdrawal” of Israeli forces to be coordinated with the PA during a transition period with a clear time table.

“These principles provide a foundation for negotiations,” he stated.

Obama’s comments codify long-standing American foreign policy in a more transparent, explicit and detailed format than his predecessors offered. US President George W. Bush was the first to officially call for a “Palestinian state” and later referred to “mutually agreed changes” to the 1949 armistice lines as its basis in a 2004 letter to then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni (Kadima) responded to Obama’s speech by maintaining her loyalty to Washington and a policy of opposition to the Netanyahu government.

Saying Obama’s plan was “clearly in Israel’s interests,” while at the same time blaming Netanyahu for threatening Jerusalem’s relationship with the US, Livni departed from her own party’s established criteria for peace in favor of Obama’s.

Member of Knesset Otniel Schneller (Kadima) challenged Livni by calling on his faction head to display maturity and act responsibly by making a strong stand and backing Netanyahu on issues of foreign policy in light of Obama’s speech.

“Obama’s speech has placed before Israeli society and its representatives the challenge of unity and national agreement. The political disagreements and aspiration of the opposition parties should not overpower their responsibility for the future of the state,” Schneller asserted.

“On the level of diplomatic policy, even Kadima believes in the same principles presented by the prime minister, which constitute the basis for a diplomatic program that the previous government under [Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni tried to advance,” he added.

“It would be appropriate if during the prime minister’s meeting with President Obama, everyone knew that the prime minister has no opposition when it comes to realizing his diplomatic initiative. We should expect mature leadership from the heads of all of the Zionist parties on the existential questions facing Israel and its strategic interests,” Schneller said.

Shevah Stern, chairman of the ruling Likud party’s branches in Judea and Samaria, expressed his hope Thursday night that Netanyahu will know how to stand firmly opposite President Obama and faithfully present Israel’s interests when they meet on Friday in Washington.

Stern added that he did not envy Netanyahu in his difficult mission.

Member of Knesset Zevulun Orlev (Jewish Home) went even further by calling on the prime minister to consider cancelling his scheduled meeting with Obama, calling it “unnecessary.”

Orlev said that Obama’s policy speech does not leave a chance for dialogue because it contradicts Israel’s national consensus.

He added that Israel will have no choice but to enter a crisis with the American president.

Obama’s words, which most analysts have understood to indicate a renewed wave of US pressure for Israeli concessions, come at a time when the PA leadership is threatening to go to the United Nations General Assembly for a unilateral declaration of statehood in Israel’s Samaria and Judea regions.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Top congressional Republicans said on Sunday they would be open to a compromise on healthcare costs, one of the biggest stumbling blocks in a deal to get the United States’ debt under control.

Representative Paul Ryan, the chairman of the House of Representatives Budget Committee, said he would “absolutely” be willing to negotiate with Democrats, who have hammered his plan to scale back government-run health plans for the poor and the elderly.

With Ryan’s plan headed for likely defeat in the Democratic-controlled Senate, that chamber’s top Republican said it was time for “an adult conversation” on ways to keep healthcare costs under control.

Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School has “projected a (virtually) ice-free fall by 2016 (+/- 3 yrs).”

  161. Is Extreme Weather the New Normal?
Heavy rains, deep snowfalls, monster floods and killing droughts are signs of a “new normal” of extreme U.S. weather events fueled by climate change, scientists and government planners said on Wednesday.
    [….]
An upsurge in heavy rainstorms in the United States has coincided with prolonged drought, sometimes in the same location, she said, noting that west Texas has seen a record-length dry period over the last five years, even as there have been two 100-year rain events.

Hayhoe, other scientists, civic planners and a manager at the giant Swiss Re reinsurance firm all cited human-caused climate change as an factor pushing this shift toward more extreme weather.

Naw, no real droughts or floods, the scientists are faking it all.

Now Barack may have placated some of the the AIPAC faithful, but his groveling at AIPAC now creates some real problems for him overseas. No one takes him seriously anymore. He has become a joke. But it ain’t funny. Being seen as a lightweight creates real dangers that other countries will ignore the United States and pursue their own interests without regard to our possible reaction. This is dangerous and volatile and it spills over into economic policy issues. For example, the Saudis are likely to accelerate their move out of the dollar and into other currencies. This will hurt at home and contribute to high prices for gas at the pump, just to list one negative effect.

Pakistan turns to China for naval base

Pakistan has asked China to build a naval base at its south-western port of Gwadar and expects the Chinese navy to maintain a regular presence there, a plan likely to alarm both India and the US.

“We have asked our Chinese brothers to please build a naval base at Gwadar,” Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar, Pakistan’s defence minister, told the Financial Times, confirming that the request was conveyed to China during a visit last week by Yusuf Raza Gilani, Pakistan’s prime minister.

  168. I just got done viewing a movie on HULU.com called the The Weather Underground . I assume that all of you know of this radical group from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn were in the documentary, plus some of the other leaders of that group. I learned some things including how the group tried to tie itself to the black liberation groups of at the time. It also made me think about how the black population, through its struggles for equality, aligned largely aligned itself with leftist politics, and leftist political groups. Is it any wonder why they will support these types of politicians today? They are comfortable with that ideology. As for the Weather Underground members who were in the documentary, it really bothers me that they mostly seem unrepentant. They are hardcore believers in revolution, and in what they believe to be their superior intellect, and superior beliefs. Sounds like typical progressive thought today for the most part.

  170. Oh no, Nomobama. It’s more complex than that. At one time, Blacks flirted with white Communist groups. The consensus became that white Communists were trying to co-opt ‘Black Power’ and use Blacks as pawns. White radicals like Bill Ayers viewed Blacks as cannon fodder in his psychotic revolutionary delusions. The Weathermen wanted the power to trigger race riots.

This is also why the Daily Kos-Nothing Left types play the race card. They want to foment, manipulate and control Black Rage. This is spelled out in Ralph Ellison’s classic novel ‘Invisible Man.’

E.g., Spike Lee is heavily influenced by ‘Invisible Man.’ In a scene from ‘Malcolm X’, a white student radical asks Malcolm X ‘what can I do to help your struggle’, to which Malcom answers, ‘Nothing!’ (I don’t know if that’s an actual Malcolm X quote or editorializing by Spike Lee.) But I assure you, blacks don’t trust white radicals.

For one, we know first hand that the ‘Nothing Left’ types are just as racist as any other demographic. So you can see, it’s very cynical for Blacks to let Nothing Left play the race card. Usually Blacks object when other groups try to co-opt the ‘Black Struggle’, but in this case it’s accepted because it helps Obama.

My theory is that Obama saw right through Bill Ayers when he recruited Obama as a Black pawn. Instead, flashing his fake smile, Obama used Ayers to start his political career and then discarded him like a used condom. Black Obama supporters–like Spike Lee–play white radicals for suckers and took their money to get a Black President. But they despise them just as much as you do.

As for The Weathermen, they are nothing but Neo-Bolshevik totalitarian vermin.

Excited by power, Obama ignores legal restraints |
President Obama launched a U.S. war in Libya two months ago with no congressional approval. Under the Constitution and under the War Powers Act, which allows the president to wage defensive wars for up to 60 days without prior approval, Obama probably broke the law.
Now that 60 days have passed since the United States joined the hostilities, Obama’s war is more clearly illegal. But nobody should expect this to matter to a president with a long record of disregarding legal and constitutional limits on presidential and federal power. Presidential arrogation of power is nothing new. President George W. Bush’s lawyer John Yoo declared in a post-9/11 memo that no congressional “statute …. can place any limits on the president’s determinations” about how to fight terrorism, proclaiming such decisions “are for the president alone to make.” But Barack Obama ran against this imperial mind-set. On war powers, he said, “The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” More broadly, he declared, “No more ignoring the law when it’s inconvenient. That is not who we are. . . . . We will again set an example for the world that the law is not subject to the whims of stubborn rulers.”

Now that he’s president, Obama apparently believes the inverse: Stubborn rulers should not be subject to the whims of the law. We shouldn’t be surprised, considering the truth behind the observation from a character in Robert Frost’s poem “Build Soil”: “[W]hat are wars but politics transformed from chronic to acute and bloody?” Obama is waging war the same way he has waged politics. Obama in 2009 threw out bankruptcy law and precedent when he handed ownership of Chrysler to his political patrons, the United Auto Workers, publicly and privately threatening the creditors who objected. Obama’s National Labor Relations Board has gotten in the game by blocking Boeing from making its jets at its new factory in South Carolina. This administration regularly flouts and bends its own ethics rules. Lobbyists fresh from Google and Goldman Sachs came to the White House and helped craft policies directly affecting their former employers — sometimes in concert with their old lobbyist colleagues. H&R Block’s chief executive officer joined the administration and drafted tax-preparation regulations that help H&R Block. More importantly, Obama seems to regard the Constitution’s limits as quaint. We see it in his rhetoric and his actions. “There are some who question the scale of our ambitions,” Obama said in his inaugural address, “Who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans.” About these “cynics,” Obama responded: “The ground has shifted beneath them …. the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.” One such “stale political argument” checking politicians’ “ambitions” is apparently the notion that the federal executive’s powers are limited and enumerated. Obamacare’s linchpin — a federal requirement that every person buy and hold health insurance — is a fine example of Obama’s disdain for the notion of enumerated powers. The administration’s lawyers have their constitutional defenses in court, but those arguments are more semantical than sincere. The telltale is the blatant contradiction between the politicians’ claims (it’s not a tax!) and the lawyers’ claims (it’s only a tax!). Elena Kagan, Obama’s Supreme Court pick, refused, as solicitor general, to answer whether the Commerce Clause would justify a federal mandate that everyone eat broccoli. In the name of hope and change, all is permitted.

It’s not just the administration. Disdain for constitutional limits on federal power is widespread on the Left. The derogatory term “Tenther” was coined in 2009 (invoking the “birther” conspiracy theory that Obama is not an American citizen) to mock those conservatives and libertarians who want more deference to the 10th Amendment’s declaration that “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Advocating stricter adherence of the Constitution will get you called racist. Al Gore once said, in effect, that a “strict constructionist” is someone who sees blacks as three-fifths of a person. Start with an administration set on “changing America,” and that rejects strict construction, the 10th Amendment, and the separation of powers, and you get what we have in Libya today: an illegal war, and a White House that doesn’t mind.

    Netanyahu’s rules of debate

    By: Hugh Hewitt 05/22/11

Friday’s showdown between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn’t close, and it wasn’t pretty — though Netanyahu didn’t want to leave any obvious marks. The end result was that our president is suddenly aware that Chicago rules don’t work on tough-minded leaders of countries surrounded by terrorists.

The battle between the warrior and the academic was bound to turn out this way. President Obama was a community organizer once. Netanyahu was commander of the Israeli Defense Forces’ elite special forces unit, Sayeret Matkal. Faculty meetings can get rough, but not as rough as the hostage rescue mission to free Sabena Flight 571.

So the president’s absurd declaration about 1967 borders is off the table. In fact, the table is gone. Israel can wait out the 20 months left to Obama’s presidency, or even 48 months if American voters insanely choose to experiment with epic incompetence at the top for another term. Israel isn’t going back to the Auschwitz borders, and only a naive and inexperienced academic would think that Thursday’s speech would do other than worsen prospects for a negotiated settlement.

Netanyahu’s take-down of the president should be on the TiVo of Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Mitch Daniels, Jon Huntsman (and, yes, Rick Perry if what I have been hearing is true). One of those men will be standing opposite the president in the debates of September and October of 2012, and Netanyahu showed exactly how to respond to the prolixities and pauses of the teleprompter-dependent president.

First, let the president talk, and talk, and talk. (And talk.) His frequent rhetorical cul-de-sacs numb the minds of listeners and set up the opportunity for sharp contrasts between the definitive and the ambiguous, the purposeful and the feckless.

Second, look right at him when responding. This so unnerved President Obama that his anger and frustration was visible. Whether he brought the sense of superiority to the White House or whether it erupted there, the president does not care for people who challenge him directly, cannot seem to believe that anyone would have the temerity to do so. This is the sign of a deep insecurity, and Netanyahu used it.

Next, speak from specifics, using facts and especially history. Netanyahu used history to spank the president on Friday. A GOP nominee armed with specific references — not just to Obama’s many blunders but also to clear evidence of the American exceptionalism that Obama has clearly rejected — will put the wordy academic on his heels.

Finally, express core truths bluntly — especially the harshest ones, such as the nature of Hamas. The president has been shrinking from clarity for more than two years, whether it is clarity on Iran, on the butcher Assad and the nutter Chavez, and most recently on the key Palestinian problem — that Hamas, like Hezbollah to the north, wants Israel destroyed.

Netanyahu showed a worldwide audience that purposefulness can be as polite as it is pointed, and that Obama has a glass jaw. A clenched glass jaw, but a glass jaw nonetheless.

Israel isn’t going back to the 1967 borders. Hamas cannot be a partner in peace negotiations. And Israel is a friend and a valued ally, not a lap dog. The president would do well to figure out that our country prefers Netanyahu’s approach to his. Even the president’s own party does.

Where is she wearing that and what is that piece hanging off the back. Otherwise, I like the color and the top and bottom match. I’d give it a 5.7.

  180. I think Obama’s betrayal of Israel is obvious and far more serious in all respects than big media, the Administration or Israel lets on. And, it will not be cured by these nauseous apologists who subvert the truth ask us to believe a lie that his Judas speech was nothing new, part of the framework which we have been talking about for years. It was a sharp stick in the eye to our only real ally in the Middle East which was decided upon at the last minute by a flake and the black mover behind the scenes Jarret. Make no mistake, the Israelis and honest Jewish leaders in this country see this provocative move by Obama for what it is. But it is not in the interest of either party to acknowledge this publicly because our mutual enemies will exploit that rift to their own advantage as they are doing now in what Obama calls Arab Spring, which threatens Israel and crushes Democracy. But if the Republicans come up with a candidate who can beat Obama and the polls show that to be true, then I suspect a number of Jewish donors will defect to that candidate, after seeing this. The one thing that should be clear in their minds is that even with all the money they have given them he is not their man. He has only one godfather and his name is George Soros–a true puss pocket of evil.

  181. “This is also why the Daily Kos-Nothing Left types play the race card. They want to foment, manipulate and control Black Rage. This is spelled out in Ralph Ellison’s classic novel ‘Invisible Man.’”
    **************
One reason way the “real” Black Left hold Obama, the Black leadership and people like Henry Louis Gates in utter contempt. Of the Black Left, Cornel West is one of the few known in the “mainstream”. He now admits that he was “had”, mostly by his own lack of critical evaluation of candidate Obama. Unlike many of the many hand-ringers of the “left”, West now says:

“Can you imagine if Barack Obama had taken office and deliberately educated and taught the American people about the nature of the financial catastrophe and what greed was really taking place?” West asks. “If he had told us what kind of mechanisms of accountability needed to be in place, if he had focused on homeowners rather than investment banks for bailouts and engaged in massive job creation he could have nipped in the bud the right-wing populism of the tea party folk. The tea party folk are right when they say the government is corrupt. It is corrupt. Big business and banks have taken over government and corrupted it in deep ways.

“We have got to attempt to tell the truth, and that truth is painful,” he says. “It is a truth that is against the thick lies of the mainstream. In telling that truth we become so maladjusted to the prevailing injustice that the Democratic Party, more and more, is not just milquetoast and spineless, as it was before, but thoroughly complicitous with some of the worst things in the American empire. I don’t think in good conscience I could tell anybody to vote for Obama. If it turns out in the end that we have a crypto-fascist movement and the only thing standing between us and fascism is Barack Obama, then we have to put our foot on the brake. But we’ve got to think seriously of third-party candidates, third formations, third parties.”

  182. Israel isn’t going back to the 1967 borders. Hamas cannot be a partner in peace negotiations. And Israel is a friend and a valued ally, not a lap dog. The president would do well to figure out that our country prefers Netanyahu’s approach to his. Even the president’s own party does.
    —————————
True except for one thing: the last sentence. It is foolish to say that his own party prefers Netanyahu’s approach to his own. Why? Because it assumes facts not in evidence–namely that his party has the courage to stand up to him–which they do not. He is their god, their emperor, their leader, their spokesman and their self proclaimed Messiah. Their role is simple. To clap when they see him or hear his name. And to never be the first to stop clapping, as the Comrade Stalin vignette illustrates. The democratic party is no longer in power. There is the Party of Obama, and a Democratic Party in exile.

  183. “I think Obama’s betrayal of Israel is obvious and far more serious in all respects than big media, the Administration or Israel lets on. And, it will not be cured by these nauseous apologists who subvert the truth ask us to believe a lie that his Judas speech was nothing new, part of the framework which we have been talking about for years.”

When I read the words of the “nauseous apologist”, I see the words of the acculturated German Jews of the late ’20s and early 30s, making every rationalization that “It couldn’t happen here, not in the country of Bach, Beethoven, and Schiller. Those are the problems for Jews living in the Pale or France”. Then “Die Hitlerzeit”.

  184. Israel to Hamas: We WON’T Recognize or Negotiate with You!

Hamas to Obama: We Won’t Recognize Israel

(CNSNews.com) – “The U.S. administration will fail, just as all others have in the past, in forcing Hamas to recognize [Israel],” a Hamas spokesman declared Sunday after President Obama once again pressed the terrorist group to relinquish violence and recognize Israel’s right to exist.

Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman for the group that controls the Gaza Strip, reiterated a stand which, in Obama’s own words, should make it impossible for Israel to negotiate with a Palestinian government that includes Hamas.

Hamas and its rival, Fatah – Palestinian Authority (P.A.) chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ movement – early this month signed a reconciliation agreement and agreed to establish a “unity” government.

Addressing an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in Washington on Sunday, Obama said the Fatah-Hamas agreement “poses an enormous obstacle to peace,” adding that “no country can be expected to negotiate with a terrorist organization sworn to its destruction.”

His answer to that dilemma was not to call on Abbas, Israel’s professed “peace partner,” to shun Hamas and crack down on its terror activities – as he is committed to do under signed agreements – but rather to urge Hamas to change. Obama also did not say what Israel should do if Hamas does not.

“We will continue to demand that Hamas accept the basic responsibilities of peace: recognizing Israel’s right to exist, rejecting violence, and adhering to all existing agreements,” Obama said.

Abu Zuhri’s statement made clear Hamas has no intention of following the advice.

Another Hamas official, Salah al-Bardwil, was quoted by Israel’s Yediot Ahronot as saying Obama’s comments Sunday on the Fatah-Hamas unity deal amounted to “blatant interference in the Palestinian internal affairs” and “an attempt to continue to deepen the Palestinian rift in order to please Israel.”

Abbas and his spokesmen have not reacted but the P.A. leadership will reportedly meet in Ramallah on Wednesday to discuss the path ahead following Obama’s major Mideast speech last Thursday.

That speech triggered a storm over Obama’s comments about Israel retreating to the “1967 lines,” with mutually-agreed land swaps – controversy the president sought to suppress in his AIPAC address by saying that he had stated in public “what has long been acknowledged privately.”

Also deeply troubling to Israel in Thursday’s speech were Obama’s less-than-forceful comments about Hamas. Addressing the pro-Israel audience on Sunday, he used far stronger language about the group, which the U.S. has designated a “foreign terrorist organization” since 1997.

Hamas’ refusal to repudiate violence and recognize Israel underscores should make any P.A. government that includes Hamas ineligible for U.S. support and funding, according to congressional critics. So far the White House has adopted a “wait and see approach.”

A Hamas leader said Sunday the reconciliation deal with Fatah strengthens the Hamas’ approach to the conflict – the approach of armed “resistance.” (Since when does the US negotiate with terrorists?)

Khalil Al-Hayya said the agreement had “boosted the resistance” and urged Fatah to “stand united behind the program of resistance since it is the only one capable of ending the occupation.”

The “occupation,” in Hamas’ view, is the entire state of Israel, as established in 1948 – not merely the territories captured from Jordanian and Egyptian control in 1967. The Hamas covenant dates its struggle against the “Zionist invaders” to the late 1930s.

Further underlining Israel’s concerns about Hamas’ ideology and agenda, Hamas lawmaker and Islamic cleric Yunis al-Astal in a recent interview predicted a “great massacre” in years to come.

    Hamas

Interviewed on Hamas’ Al-Aqsa television on May 11, Hamas lawmaker and Islamic cleric Yunis al-Astal said Jews had moved to “Palestine” in preparation for a “great massacre.”

“The [Jews] are brought to droves to Palestine so that the Palestinians – and the Islamic nation behind them – will have the honor of annihilating the evil of this gang,” al-Astal told Hamas’ al-Aqsa television on May 11.

“All the predators, all the birds of prey, all the dangerous reptiles and insects, and all the lethal bacteria, are far less dangerous than the Jews,” he said. “In just a few years all the Zionists and settlers will realize that their arrival in Palestine was for the purpose of the great massacre, but means of which Allah wants to relieve humanity of their evil.”

The comments were recorded and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

Addressing the AIPAC event on Sunday, U.S. House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor spoke out against what he called a Palestinian “culture infused with resentment and hatred,” and said true peace in the Middle East will be impossible until Israel’s enemies accept its right to exist as a Jewish state.

    —————————–
Not true. First of all, we do not need two Mormon finalists–Romney and Huntsman. Second, Daniels is no longer a candidate–probably because his wife is too fragile–as I mentioned before. Third, where is Gingrich in this short list?

Third, Huntsman has been the stealth candidate of the business faction of the Party for two years–McCain’s campaign manager told me that shortly after the election. Furthermore, he was preparing to run in 2012 while he was Ambassador to China–which Erickson felt was disloyal. From what very little I know of the man I do not like him.

  186. “if the Republicans come up with a candidate who can beat Obama and the polls show that to be true, then I suspect a number of Jewish donors will defect to that candidate…”

  188. A brilliant take down of Obama

    O’Bama? Oh puh-lease!

James Delingpole in the UK Telegraph

Ah Bejaysus and Begorrah! Oi’ll be swearin’ boi the auld shrine to the Vorgin with the shamrocks growin’ round it next to the hill where Cuchullain slew the Great Leprechaun of Kildare on St Patrick’s Day that Barack Seamus O’Toole Flaherty Joyce O’Bama is the most Irish US president that ever set foot on the Emerald Oisle, so he is, so he is.

Except, when he’s in Africa, of course, when he disappears into the dry ice and re-emerges with a grass skirt and a bone through his nose and declares himself to be Mandingo, Prince of the Bloodline of the Bonga People, Drinker of Cattle Urine, Father of A Thousand Warrior Sons, Keeper of King Solomon’s Mines, Barehanded Slayer of Lions, Undaunted Victim of the Evil Colonial British Empire.

And in the Middle East, where he is Al-Barak Hussein Obama, Protector of the Holy Shrine, Smiter of the Kuffar, Lion of the Desert, Tent-Loving-Aficionado-of-the-Oversweetened-Coffee, Chomper of Sheeps’ Eyeballs, Restorer of the Caliphate.

    Etc.

Tony Blair used to do this trick too, his accent mutating from broad Glaswegian to genteel Edinburgh to Mummerset to Estuary to Richard E Grant to Sarf London Grime – often in the course of one Downing Street reception – the better to persuade his target audience that he was their kind of guy. And it is, of course, the hallmark of an unutterable charlatan.

I’ve argued before that Tony Blair and Barack Obama have an awful lot in common. Both are lawyers; both are snake-oil-salesman; both claim to be post-partisan, and Third Way and consensual; both play the acceptable, moderate-seeming public face of a regime chock full of Communists, class warriors, single issue rabble rousers, malcontents, communitarians and eco-loons hell bent on destroying every last vestige of what once made their country great. And both do (or did) the things dodgy political leaders always do when the going gets tough at home and their domestic audience finally wises up to how totally useless they are: they hop on the plane and pose as international statesman instead.

My colleague Damian Thompson appears to be under the impression that Obama is a great guy because he said nice things about the Queen. Look, I think the Queen’s great too, but did it really not occur to my distinguished colleague (and editor) that there might have been a hint of an ulterior motive here? Obama can’t stand Britain (his wife likes us even less): he made that clear enough when he sent back Winston Churchill’s bust and dissed our Prime Minister with those dodgy DVDS. He blames us for what happened to his grandfather during Mau Mau. He doesn’t believe in the Special Relationship. Are we honestly supposed to believe in that during the subsequent year in office, Obama has since acquired such wisdom and insight that he suddenly realises how special we are?

Of course he hasn’t. Obama is just doing now what all bullies and losers start doing when they realise how unpopular they are and that everyone is abandoning them. They suck up to anybody and everybody. They whore themselves piteously before enemies they once considered beneath their contempt. Fain will they fill their bellies with husks that swine eat – but which no man will give them: and serve them jolly well right, too!

By all means let us enjoy watching Obama smarm and grovel and ingratiate himself like some presidential Uriah Heep. But for heaven’s sake let us never give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s a cold fish and would certainly never show any mercy towards us were the roles to be reversed.

You have a point alright. The comparisons are obvious:

    1. Economic instability (stock market crash),

    2. War guilt (racial guilt),

    3. A faux charismatic leader (Obama),

    4. A dictator who subverts the constitution and writes the laws (cap and trade, EPA, etc),

    5. A simmering hatered of Jews (Cairo Speeches I & 2)

    6. Scapegoating (The Apology Tour)

    7. The illusion of a new beginning (hope and change),

    8. Today Europe Tomorrow The World (The Obama Berlin Speech)

    9. The Nueremberg Spectacle (the Denver Spectacle),

10 A Mein Kampf book to promote his myth (Dreams of My Father)

    11.Hitlerjugen (obamabots) and

12.A COMPLIANT WORSHIPFUL PRESS (Big Media)–

Yes the parallels are there. The question is will we wake up in time or will it take a gotterdamenrung for people to come to their senses. (I’ll be damned if I know the answer to that question).

Like twelfth factor is the one that interests me. We have some people on this blog who are good as any paralegal at research. It would be interesting to show a direct, probative comparison between the press of the Nazi era and big media today.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers for the people of Joplin, MO.

I do not live there. We live near St. Louis, however, we go to northwest Arkansas to help take care of an elderly parent often and go right through that area.

We were headed that way and would have been in the destruction area yesterday but as fate would have it, we had to cancel our trip because my elderly Mother who is with us had a slight medical problem.

If not for that…most likely we would have been traveling right through the Joplin, MO area near the time of the tornado. That’s a scary thought.

  192. Barack Obama’s Jewish Problem
    Larry Johnson
    No Quarter

Spent the last four days hanging with one of my dearest friends, who also happens to be Jewish. He’s an accomplished man. We had the chance to sit and chat with some other prominent, successful Jewish businessmen and leaders. Several of these guys admitted voting for Obama in 2008. I learned one very important truth from these discussions–Obama has a huge problem with Jews who voted for him in 2008.

It boils down to two things. Barack is incompetent on the economic front and he has jeopardized the security of Israel. Those two black marks against him are not going to disappear magically. He has alienated a significant portion of his winning 2008 base and it ain’t coming back.

Once again we are reminded how politically inept Barack Obama is despite repeated claims that he is some kind of wunderkind. It has only been two weeks since he got the credit for nailing Osama Bin Laden and you’d think he would want to keep riding that wave? Nope!

Obama got things rolling last wee with this little gem:

Here’s a shocker–Israel and its supporters viewed this as Barack selling them out.

So here’s round two. Bibi busts a move on Barack.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Today at AIPAC Barack Obama was back in pander bear mode. He did everything but promise to perform fellatio on every man in Israel. It was desperate.

    Your thoughts?

On Saturday, several thousand people showed up in the humid heat of Atlanta to hear Herman Cain announce his bid for the Presidency.

Today, in Iowa, Tim Pawlenty will announce his bid. If you have not seen it already, go watch Pawlenty’s preview. I am actually floored it is so well done.

    Newt Gingrich is already in.

Mitt Romney will make a big splash soon and for all intents and purposes is fully and already in.

Then were are Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and a few others with Sarah Palin as a late entrant possibility.

I hope like heck that this is it. I hear rumblings of a few wild cards, but let’s take the field as officially announced: Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Tim Pawlenty. Add Mitt Romney in there because it is abundantly obvious he has been in this since at lease December of 2008 and you actually have a solid, relatively conservative field to pick from.

Republican angst over a bad slate mirrors the Democrat angst in 1991. But in 1991, the slate that was there went on in 1992 to pick the next President of the United States.

We have our nominee in this field. I can live with the field and I hope you can too.

Republicans, not just conservatives, are at risk of a self-fulfilling, self-defeating prophecy that the field sucks and cannot beat Obama. It’s the economy, stupid. It always has been. It always will be. And America can do better than Barack Obama with any of the candidates we now have.

  194. No mention of Huntsman as a candidate in Eric’s comments. I may call him tonight and ask why this ommission. Or someone else can if they are interested. He has a radio show in Atlanta. Lord knows, I do not want Huntsman, but I would like to know why he was omitted, other than the fact that Eric does not like him, for the reason I mentioned above. The other article noted above omitted Gingrich. Everyone seems to be in separate camps, and big media is driving the narrative that the Republicans are too weak and divided to produce a credible leader who can take down Obama. That is a bunch of crap and they know it. They know what Carville said before Eric did: it is the economy stupid.

If the death toll in Joplin exceeds 115, it will be in the top 10 deadliest tornadoes in all time, none of which have occurred since 1953 according to the Storm Prediction Center.
This story will be continually updated throughout the day as more information becomes available.

  205. Obama digging up dirt on potential opponent Chris Christie

President Obama’s re-election campaign is trying to dig up dirt in the Garden State.
Despite New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s repeated pronouncements that he will not seek the GOP presidential nomination, Obama operatives are compiling a dossier of what they call “opposition research” — material that could be used to damage Christie if he changes his mind, The Post has learned.
The Obama campaign is trying to keep its efforts from public view, concerned they would only elevate Christie’s already impressive standing within the Republican Party, sources said.

‘He is not running, and he is not cracking the door open even a little bit.’ — Gov. Chris Christie’s spokesman Mike DuHaime

The operatives have chosen not to dispatch their own people to New Jersey, but instead are talking to people there and in New York who know Christie from his time in the governor’s office, as a gubernatorial candidate and as US attorney.
Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, did not respond to messages.
Christie has repeatedly — and colorfully –said he is not running for president in 2012.
“Short of suicide, I don’t really know what I’d have to do to convince you people that I’m not running. I’m not running,” he’s insisted.
But party leaders have been pushing Christie to enter the race, saying his brand of New Jersey tough talk could put the White House within reach for the GOP.
Republican leaders from Henry Kissinger to House Speaker John Boehner have encouraged him to run.
And well-heeled GOP donors in New York have been spreading word that Christie has privately shown a willingness to consider it.
They say Christie might enter the race if he can get part of his pension-reform agenda passed in Trenton and score a GOP takeover of one of the Democratic-controlled houses of the state Legislature in November.
Christie spokesman Mike DuHaime said, “This is just wishful thinking . . . He is not running, and he is not cracking the door open even a little bit.”
But, DuHaime said, the efforts of the Obama camp are flattering.
He said it’s “an acknowledgment that Christie is a bold leader successfully taking on big challenges as governor. A leader who cuts spending and takes on the special interests tends to earn notice at the highest levels.”
Top Dems applauded Team Obama’s preparation.
“It would be irresponsible for them to not start looking at it,” said a consultant who played a key role in Obama’s 2008 campaign. “It would be malpractice for them not to.”
Meanwhile, there were other developments for the GO{:
    * Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels withdrew from the race for the presidential nomination.
    * Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, announced a bid for the White House.
    * Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who is declaring his candidacy today, jumped the gun by releasing a video last night scooping his own announcement.

  207. The Republican establishment got rid of Trump
    ——————————-
I think it was a bi partisan effort. The New York Attorney General who is conducting a witch hunt into his university is not a Democrat. But big media was the executioner. With every passing day it seems, we find our nation more in the grip of a big media controlled totalitarian state. Caveat emptor to whoever these whores promote. He or she will represent the elites and not the American People. Not never.

  208. This is a riot! By James Delingpole on BO’s Irieland visit.

  209. error: is not a Democrat–I meant to say (the NY Attorney General)is not a Republican–but then I decided that sounded confrontational with someone I respect and admire, Admin. So I substituted the word Democrat, and neglected to remove the word “not”.

  214. It’s Not A Weak Field, But A Typical Field For Republicans
    Eric Erickson
    Red State Blog

A lot of people are taking some comfort in my post from this morning. But there is also a lot of “the field is weak” comments.

Let’s review, shall we? Let’s go back to 1964, which was arguably the first year of the modern campaign era. Then we’ll work our way forward with those open years or years when the GOP was the out of power party.

    In 1964 we had:
    Hiram Fong of Hawaii
    Barry Goldwater of Arizona
    Walter Henry Judd of Maryland
Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. of Massachusetts
    Nelson Rockefeller of New York
    George Romney of Michigan
    William Scranton of Pennsylania
    Margaret Chase Smith of Maine
    Harold Stassen of Minnesota

    In 1968 we had:
    Frank Carlson of Kansas
    Clifford Case of New Jersey
    John Lindsay of New York
Richard Nixon, then of New York
    Ronald Reagan of California
    Jim Rhodes of Ohio
    George Romney of Michigan
    Nelson Rockefeller of New York
    Winthrop Rockefeller of Arkansas
    Harold Stassen of Minnesota
    John Volpe of Massachusetts

    In 1980 we had:
    John Anderson of Illinois
    Howard Baker of Tennessee
George H. W. Bush of Texas
    John Connally of Texas
    Phil Crane of Illinois
    Bob Dole of Kansas
    Larry Pressler of South Dakota
    Ronald Reagan of California
    Harold Stassen of Pennsylvania
    Lowell Weicker of Connecticut

    In 1988 we had:
George H. W. Bush of Texas
    Bob Dole of Kansas
Pierre S. du Pont, IV of Delaware
    Alexander Haig of Pennsylvania
    Jack Kemp of New York
    Paul Laxalt of Nevada
    Harold Stassen of Minnesota
    Pat Robertson of Virginia

    In 1996 we had:
    Lamar Alexander of Tennessee
    Pat Buchanan of Virginia
    Bob Dole of Kansas
    Robert K. Dornan of California
    Steve Forbes of New York
    Phil Gramm of Texas
    Alan Keyes of Maryland
    Richard Lugar of Indiana
    Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania
    Morry Taylor of Ohio
    Pete Wilson of California

    In 2000, we had:
    Lamar Alexander of Tennessee
    Gary Bauer of Kentucky
    Pat Buchanana of Virginia
    George W. Bush of Texas
    Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina
    Steve Forbes of New York
    Orrin Hatch of Utah
    John Kasich of Ohio
    Alan Keyes of Maryland
    John McCain of Arizona
    Dan Qualye of Indiana
    Bob Smith of New Hampshire

    In 2008, we had:
    Sam Brownback of Kansas
    Mike Huckabee of Arkansas
    Jim Gilmore of Virginia
    Rudy Giuliani of New York
    Duncan Hunter of California
    Alan Keyes of Maryland
    John McCain of Arizona
    Mitt Romney of Massachusetts
    Ron Paul of Texas
    Tom Tancredo of Colorado
    Fred Thompson of Tennessee
    Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin

This year so far we have:
    Michele Bachmann of Minnesota
    Herman Cain of Georgia
    Newt Gingrich of Georgia
    Jon Huntsman of Utah
    Gary Johnson of New Mexico
    Ron Paul of Texas
    Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota
    Mitt Romney of Massachusetts
    Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania

Some of them dropped out before the primaries, some after, and some garnered votes at the convention without doing much. But looking at the field, 2012 doesn’t seem more or less weak than most of the others.

I’d argue that 1964 to 1980 showed the rise of conservatives and after 1980 everyone largely ceded the field of ideas to conservatives. 30 years later, some Republicans wavering, but by and large the candidates still pay homage to Reagan. If anything, the GOP field right now is a reflect of our past successes and wins.

Of the candidates listed, I think the candidate who can tap into the spirit of one year I didn’t mention is the guy who will be the nominee — Reagan ‘76. He defied the party structure and wound up losing the nomination that year. But then the tea party movement didn’t exist back them. Whoever stands up as a credible outside voice of conservatism is going to go far. Conversely, those too tied to the “establishment”, whatever one might view it to be, will be hurt.

But don’t tell me it is a weak field. It’s a pretty typical field for the GOP.

    http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/05/23/its-a-weak-field-no-it-is-pretty-typical/

  215. I looked at that Daily Mail article and saw the picture where thousands were lined up and thought to myself, “Don’t tell me they are all lined up to see Obama.” Well, sure enough I read the caption underneath, “Thousands line up for the concert where Obama will speak”. I would love to see him go somewhere and give a damned speech without a concert so we could see what his REAL support is.

And, I’m impressed. I think that is the very first time I ever saw Michelle wear a jacket.

  216. Erickson lists:

This year so far we have:
    Michele Bachmann of Minnesota
    Herman Cain of Georgia
    Newt Gingrich of Georgia
    Jon Huntsman of Utah
    Gary Johnson of New Mexico
    Ron Paul of Texas
    Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota
    Mitt Romney of Massachusetts
    Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania

Is Sarah Palin now “She Who Must Not Be Named?” And it can’t be because ths is just a list of declared candidates – Bachmann & Huntsman have both not yet declared either. I think the Palinistas are right when they say the GOP is going for an Anyone But Palin candidate.

Wow, glad you and your family are safe. One has to wonder about the things that happen to change peoples plans at the last minute.

The destruction in Missouri, coming after the equally destructive tornadoes from with the past couple of weeks, is heartbreaking to see. What a horror these people go through.

  222. There is one aspect of the Obama Mystique which has escaped critical analysis. Big media tells us he is a trancendent speaker whose rythms cadences and words excite a sense of passion, endless possibilities and utter devotion in his audiedeces. His words move mountains–but they really don’t. In my view, all they really do is bamboozle the chattering class, and betray America. I will give him this much however.Unless you are Stalin, they are a tough act to follow.

They say Reagan was a great speaker and in a sense he was. He was a father figure who projected an aura of wisdom, he was eternally optimistic, and seemed unflappable. And while those things were true about him, he was heavily scripted as well, and some of his policies like free trade, deregulation and wholesale abandonment of the manufacturing segment of the economy set the stage for what we are facing today, see Kevin Phillips in Bad Money.

I have met two great speakers in my time. One was George Roache who was the President of Hillsdale College, who resigned after a rumor of a tryst hit the rumor mill. The other was Vice Admiral James Calvert, who was a World War II submariner, Superintendant of Annapolis and a Sean Connery look alike. Jim was slated to become Chief of Naval Operations. I spoke with a former Secretary of the Navy who is one of my personal heroes a couple years ago and he said he did not know why Jim did not get there. Politics–like youth– can do a feller in.

Thinking about the speech patterns of Roach and Calvert, they had certain common characteristics. McArthur had them and so did Orson Wells. One was the ability to speak softly in the beginning and work your way up the scale of decibles and then back down again. Another was the ability to speed through certain dry details and slow down at the points to be emphasized. Another was the use of the long pregnant pause to let the prior point sink in and to build expectation as to what would come next. Another was to speak in short clip sentences for clarity. They sounded more like Shakespearan Actors than black preachers–which Obama does to my ear. That is what made them effective.

Finally, I wanted to respond to your comment. First, thank you for your response to my original comment. I appreciate your insight on this. I know my comment was a little bit simplistic. There was a portion in the video in which a Black Panther Party member indicated that his group did not want the Weather Underground’s support. He considered the group to be, in my words, not up to the task of real revolution, although their hearts were in the right place. In other words, they were not professional revolutionaries, only rabblerousers. There was also a picture of a black man holding up a cardboard sign that indicated his support for the Weathermen, so I suppose that there were blacks that supported them, too. Anyway, it just seems to me that there is a monolithic support for leftism in the black community. The vast majority have cast their lot with this ideology, and personally, I think it has been to their detriment. Yes, they’ve gotten their crumbs, but that is about it. Yet, they keep riding the same horse looking for different results. After awhile, this ignorance can be termed stupidity. My ignorance allowed me to cast Democratic ballots most of my life. I am not ashamed to say that I voted for Bill Clinton twice, but I am ashamed to say that I voted for Carter,Mondale (but for Geraldine Ferraro), Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry. Geez, what they hell was I thinking? I’ve learned from this, and I am now FREE!

  233. Holy Shit – I am not sure what this means or if Trump is playing with us again….

On May 16, Donald Trump said he wouldn’t run for president. One week later — and after several days when his name wasn’t in the headlines — Trump says he’s having second thoughts.

“I’m not going to rule anything out, that I can tell you,” Trump said when asked Monday morning on Fox and Friends if he might be late entrant to the presidential race after all.

He took some potshots at the current crop of Republicans who are running for president, saying, “at this point in time, they’re not going to be beating Obama.”

Polls showed Trump was in free fall by the time he finally decided to put an end to his conspiracy-fueled romp through Republican politics.

Trump declined to confirm a Newsmax report (based on a New York Post story) that he was offered $60 million by NBC to continue as host of The Apprentice, though he said network management personally appealed to him to stay out of the presidential race so his show could continue.

Trump was asked if he would walk away from the money if the GOP field didn’t become more competitive.

“Who knows,” Trump said, “stranger things have happened.”

Trump was asked if he might come in to save the GOP’s chances, despite his blanket statement walking away from a bid last week.

“I said I wouldn’t do it,” Trump said, adding “I can’t rule out anything.”

“The country is so important,” Trump said, “it’s so vital we choose the right person and at this moment I don’t see that person.”

    Trump

I heard that Trump phone interview earlier; my impression was that the show hosts were trying to get him to say that and he humored them with the “stranger things have happened” & “not ruling out anything.” He sounded a lot more serious when he said that he doesn’t think any of the *currently declared* candidates can beat Obama.
He was asked about Cain and he said that Cain seems nice but he doesn’t know anything about him.

For another funny-as-he11 glimpse at MO, check MOTUS and scroll halfway down to see the grinch vs. MO.

WOW!!! The side by sides are great. MO is the Grinch.

  237. MO’s problem is her clothes never fit properly…usually too tight and too busy (sometimes too short for when she sits down)…she should not wear thigh hugging, fitted pants…she needs a straight line pants…and then as mentioned above…she overdoes it with the make-up…eyebrows arched way to severly…false eyelashes…too much make-up and too many contrasting accessories…plus she just does not like tailored clothing which is more appropriate for the events she attends as first lady…MO always seems to want to add her ‘odd’ touch…and on a woman her size and stature…less is more…

…i don’t know who her stylist is but to let MO go to Europe in that orange costume is ridiculous…MO could have easily worn that color in a simple clean line with a signature piece of jewelry…but no, she has to go all flashy…as if we would not notice her…

…guest “smart alec’ has some difficulty with his ‘beast’ today…his million dollar, armored car that is…!

When a Jewish communities’ safety and welfare is dependent on the benevolence of a ruler, country, non-Jewish society, etc., Jews invariably end up under the bus when it it expedient for the ruler, country, etc. to do so. The old Zionists of the late 19th and 20th century understood this when they fought hard to establish the JEWISH State of Israel. It seems as if many acculturated American Jews have short historical memories. Obama’s pandering to the PA is just a symptom. The religious fundamentalists who are the BFFs of Israel have no love for Jews. I clicked on a Christian Fundamentalist “Bible Study” site and Henry Ford’s four volume “The International Jew”, published in 1920 was at the top of the reading list. (BTW, there is a new 2010 publication of “The International Jew” and it now on Kindle.)

Despite the rather weak reassurances of Barack Obama to Israel about how their welfare is our welfare, etc., $10 a gallon gasoline, for example, could easily change the American opinion about where America’s vital interests reside.

Supreme Court orders California to release tens of thousands of prison inmates
The 5-4 decision represents one of the largest prison release orders in U.S. history. The court majority says overcrowding has caused ‘suffering and death.’ In a sharp dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia warns ‘terrible things are sure to happen.’

By David G. Savage, Washington Bureau
    May 23, 2011, 8:56 a.m.
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ordered California on Monday to release tens of thousands of its prisoners to relieve overcrowding, saying that “needless suffering and death” had resulted from putting too many inmates into facilities that cannot hold them in decent conditions.

It is one of the largest prison release orders in the nation’s history, and it sharply split the high court.

Justices upheld an order from a three-judge panel in California that called for releasing 38,000 to 46,000 prisoners. Since then, the state has transferred about 9,000 state inmates to county jails. As a result, the total prison population is now about 32,000 more than the capacity limit set by the panel.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, speaking for the majority, said California’s prisons had “fallen short of minimum constitutional requirements” because of overcrowding. As many as 200 prisoners may live in gymnasium, he said, and as many as 54 prisoners share a single toilet.

Kennedy insisted that the state had no choice but to release more prisoners. The justices, however, agreed that California officials should be given more time to make the needed reductions.

In dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia called the ruling “staggering” and “absurd.”

He said the high court had repeatedly overruled the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for ordering the release of individual prisoners. Now, he said, the majority were ordering the release of “46,000 happy-go-lucky felons.” He added that “terrible things are sure to happen as a consequence of this outrageous order.” Justice Clarence Thomas agreed with him.

In a separate dissent, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said the ruling conflicted with a federal law intended to limit the power of federal judges to order a release of prisoners.

State officials and lawyers for inmates differ over just how many prisoners will have to be released. In recent figures, the state said it had about 142,000 inmates behind bars, and the judges calculated the prison population would need to be reduced to about 110,000 to comply with constitutional standards.

Kennedy said the judges in California overseeing the prison-release order should “accord the state considerable latitude to find mechanisms and make plans” that are “consistent with the public safety.”

The American Civil Liberties Union said the court had “done the right thing” by addressing the “egregious and extreme overcrowding in California’s prisons.”

David Fathi, director of the ACLU national prison project, said “reducing the number of people in prison not only would save the state taxpayers half a billion annually, it would lead to the implementation of truly rehabilitative programs that lower recidivism rates and create safer communities.”

Meanwhile, the court took no action on another California case in which a conservative group is challenging the state’s policy of granting in-state tuition at its colleges and universities to students who are illegal immigrants and have graduated from its high schools.

The justices said they would consider the appeal in a later private conference.

Vice President Joe Biden surprised a gathering of donors in Cincinnati last week when he floated the prospect of his succeeding President Barack Obama in the White House.

Biden, who started in the Senate young and would be just 70 in 2012, raised the possibility unprompted during a wide-ranging conversation at the May 19 dinner with major Democratic Party donors, a source in the room said.

  246. Barack Obama: A Nixon, Not A Carter

    Then he is a Nixer!

    May. 23 2011 –

    By RALPH BENKO

President Barack Obama’s critics who liken him to the feckless Jimmy Carter have it all wrong. The Obama White House is engaged in a campaign to override and overrun Congress with executive power the likes of which haven’t been seen since President Richard Nixon.

The Obama administration is using the Labor Department to ram through something like Card Check (repeatedly failed to pass the Senate), the Environmental Protection Agency to impose something like Kyoto Treaty protocols (voted down by the Senate 95-0), the NLRB shutting down Boeing’s $2 billion Dreamliner factory in South Carolina and other initiatives, many of dubious constitutionality. It’s a lengthening list.

Alarm bells really began sounding when the New York Times reported that the IRS is looking into reversing a 30-year-old policy to apply a gift tax to donors to social welfare organizations. There is almost no chance that this tax came from career staff alone.

Sen. Orin Hatch and five other members of the Senate Finance Committee sent a letter to the IRS commissioner demanding an explanation. The IRS has a long and noble tradition of resisting White House efforts to politicize it. But politicians have, from time to time, misused the IRS.

President Nixon and his minions’ attempts to use the IRS against perceived political enemies is notorious. As noted by Stanley Kutler in The Wars of Watergate:

[White House Counsel John] Dean later prepared a memorandum.… The Service has been too “unresponsive and insensitive” to the White House. Commissioner Walters … appeared “oversensitive” in his concerns that IRS actions might be labeled political. That had to change, Dean said. … Walters “must be made to know that discreet political actions and investigations on behalf of the administration are a firm requirement and responsibility on his part. ….” Finally, the inevitable rationale: the Democrats “used [IRS] most effectively. We have been unable.”

The Democrats “used [the IRS] most effectively?”

Of significance was the integrity shown by Treasury Secretary George Shultz, rebuffing White House pressure, and by IRS Commissioner Donald Alexander, whose obituary noted “… about 10 weeks into his job as commissioner, Mr. Alexander announced that he had shut down the Special Service Staff of the I.R.S., which had been investigating critics of Nixon and his Vietnam policies. That night Nixon made the first of several attempts to fire him….”

Are Nixon-like abuses recurring? The evidence is only circumstantial. But what is known is troubling. It demands a close look … if only to dispel the suspicion that is settling upon the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS’ credibility lies in its hard earned reputation for integrity. It deserves to have its reputation cleared or, if its integrity has been violated, have Commissioner Alexander’s axiom that “political or social views are irrelevant to taxation” promptly restored.

    1. The Evidence

The Senators’ letter sums up much of the circumstantial evidence:

President Obama and his White House staff have made it clear that they view these organizations with deep hostility. The President himself, in a heated political context, referred to certain 501(c)(4) organizations as “a threat to our democracy.” His White House Communications Director, Dan Pfeiffer, charged that the “powerful interests” supporting some of these organizations “are literally buying elections” ….

The applicability of gift taxes to 501(c)(4) contributions is ambiguous. Historically, the IRS has deliberately opted against vigorous enforcement of the gift tax on 501(c)(4) contributions. There are good reasons for this. First, it is unclear if contributions to these organizations are eligible for the gift tax given their gratuitous nature, and the fact that the donations are made with the expectation that the organization will work to advance the donor’s policy views. Moreover, these contributions are clearly not designed for tax planning purposes or to avoid the estate tax. Most importantly, however, enforcement of gift taxes on contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations engaged in public policy debate runs an unacceptable risk of chilling political speech, which receives the highest level of constitutional protection under the First Amendment.

The Senators are right. This tax appears as almost certainly constitutionally defective under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.

    2. The stakes:

The majority opinion in Citizens United held that “political speech must prevail against laws that would suppress it, whether by design or inadvertence. Laws that burden political speech are ‘subject to strict scrutiny….’ … Speech is an essential mechanism of democracy, for it is the means to hold officials accountable to the people.”

At the dawn of the Republic, in one of the most fundamental interpretations of the Constitution, Chief Justice John Marshall observed that “the power to tax involves the power to destroy.” What to make of a federal agency that brings the “power to destroy” against “an essential mechanism of democracy?”

The timing of the effort to tax political speech itself seems odd, even suspicious. Come what may this “power to destroy” will be effective during the Obama campaign’s billion dollar re-election effort, chilling individuals from funding opposition groups. Coincidence?

    3. The Inquiry

Who will get to the bottom of this? First, of course, is the mainstream media. Katherine Graham showed courage by allowing Ben Bradlee to dispatch Woodward and Bernstein to go after the abuses of the Nixon White House. We can but hope that her successor, son Donald, will rise to his late mother’s stature. Perhaps the Post, or its investigative peers, The New York Times (who scooped the Post in its own back yard on this one) and the Wall Street Journal, already are on this.

Also, this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the House Committee on Government Operations, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa, and of the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Dave Camp (and its Oversight Subcommittee chaired by Rep. Boustany). These have the power and duty to look into what’s going on.

Federal agencies pursuing a potentially controversial policy shift follow an elaborate process. Typically there is a set of memoranda in a file jacket, against the left side of which is stapled a “concurrence chain.” This is to be initialed by all civil servants, career and appointed, “in the loop.”

At the top of the chain are the relevant political appointees. Sen. Hatch and colleagues do well to address the Commissioner, Douglas Schulman. He was appointed by President Bush and is presumptively innocent of politicization. But the Commissioner is an administrator not a policy maker.

The relevant officials are in the Treasury Department itself. Secretary Geithner’s reputation is, at least vicariously, involved. He might wish to initiate an internal review … before Congress does. Logically, acting Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy, Michael Mundaca, would know the facts. Mundaca appears to be a recess appointment … without Senate confirmation. A breach in the process?

Deputy Secretary Neal Wolin also might know something. Wolin, briefly, served as deputy counsel for economic policy in the Obama White House and thus has direct White House ties. Did he discuss this with the White House? Having served as General Counsel at the Treasury Department from 1999 to 2001 he knows how to get things done. His CIA background, not inherently sinister, is, yes, unsettling.

The upshot? President Obama is no Jimmy Carter. He is proving himself to be effective and even ruthless. Likening him to Nixon in no way implies crimes or any impeachable offense. It does suggest a certain Machiavellian ethos. Constitutionalists of all parties, Left and Right, find having what looks like a “soft despot” in the Oval Office alarming. Obama is on track to rival Richard Milhous Nixon for that dubious status.

I would never have thought so when he was younger, but it just goes to show that musicians are entertainers, and how they entertain does not necessarily reflect how they live their lives away from their jobs. Ted Nugent is another example.
