Osama Bin Laden’s Final Victory

If not for rowdy citizens with American flags in the streets, the shouts of U.S.A! punctuating the night, Bin Laden’s victory would have been complete. It was the people in the streets that led last night. It was the joyous celebrations, not the tempered White House words, that deprived the 6 foot 4 killer of a big wide grin. If not for the American people making noise in the streets last night – Bin Laden could have ended his life crooning the Sinatra classic “My Way.”

The early reports, as is typical with preliminary reports from war zones, were not completely accurate. For instance, some initial reports indicated that Bin Laden was killed a week ago and DNA tests the cause of the delay in announcing the death. But it was last night that American special forces shot and killed Osama Bin Laden in the head. They looked him in the eye and shot him dead.

He said he would never be captured alive.

It was in the interests of all sides that Bin Laden die – not be taken alive and squeezed dry of information.

For Barack Obama, who spent an inordinate amount of time in appeasement of Muslim sensibilities during last night’s announcement, the interests were not to have to make a decision as to what to do with the terrorist killer of thousands. Would he be housed at Gitmo? Would he be tried at Guantanamo alongside his fellow killers? How much “enhanced interrogation” techniques, torture, the kind of torture that led to last night’s kill, to subject on the killer? How to handle demonstrations in Muslim countries in support of the killer? Hamas, is in indignant mourning already.

Pakistani government interests demanded Bin Laden die.
The last thing they wanted was to have Bin Laden answer questions of who helped him. Who built that massive compound protected with security measures and a military academy (think West Point) right next door (bin Laden was effectively being housed under Pakistani state control.“). The anger in Pakistan today is against America.

The billionaire Bin Laden family and the Saudi government wanted him dead as well. Their hands are implicated in the decade long survival of the killer. Six children, out of a dozen, and two wives at least were with the six foot tall killer. Four of his best friends were with the killer. This was not a lonely man on the run:

“Looking at maps and satellite photos on the Web last night, I saw the wide expanse of the Academy not far from where the million-dollar, heavily secured mansion where bin Laden lived was constructed in 2005. The maps I looked at had sections of land nearby marked off as “restricted areas,” indicating that they were under military control. It stretches credulity to think that a mansion of that scale could have been built and occupied by bin Laden for six years without its coming to the attention of anyone in the Pakistani Army. [snip]

Who owned the land on which the house was constructed? How was the land acquired, and from whom? Who designed the house, which seems to have been purpose-built to secure bin Laden? Who was the general contractor? Who installed the security systems? Who worked there? Are there witnesses who will now testify as to who visited the house, how often, and for what purpose? These questions are not relevant only to the full realization of justice for the victims of September 11th. They are also relevant to the victims of terrorist attacks conducted or inspired by bin Laden while he lived in the house, and these include many Pakistanis, as well as Afghans, Indians, Jordanians, and Britons. They are rightly subjects of American criminal law.”

Bin Laden declared he would never be taken alive. Bin Laden did not want to have answers of his day’s, weeks, months, years, extracted from him. Who helped you? How much money did your family transfer to you? What governments assisted you? How much operational control do you still exert and how many more terrorists live next door to us?

Bin Laden declared he would never be taken alive. Alive to have information forcibly extracted from him. It was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, under torture, who provided the key information that led to last night’s victory. Bin Laden took his information to sea.

Bin Laden lived and died as he wanted. We can all be happy that he is dead. We can all enjoy the knowledge that this particular killer is no longer with us. But he had the final victory.

He was not living in a damp cave for ten years suffering in pain. He lived well. He lived with family and friends. He ate well. He slept on a comfortable bed.

Barack Obama said last night “Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer of Muslims.” Yes, Bin Laden was a killer of Muslims as well as of Christians and Jews. But the targets were the Christians and Jews, not the Muslims. As to being a leader, a Muslim leader, Obama is lying.

That it was a horrible version of Islam that Bin Laden led there is no doubt. But Bin Laden led a political/military/religious movement whether Barack Obama admits it or not. These movements are not RINOs versus DINOs. Bin Laden and the Muslim movement of terror he led and believed in is not Lindsay Graham sucking up to Joe Manchin.

Ultimately, Bin Laden won. Osama Bin Laden had his final victory. It was Barack Obama who have him that final victory. Bin Laden chose the manner of his death and by the gift of Barack Obama ended his life in accordance and compliance with his beliefs.

The dead of September 11, 2001 did not get to choose the manner of their deaths. Their loved ones do not have a grave to visit, a tombstone to weep on.

The dead of September 11, 2001 did not have a chance to be anointed with the oils or rituals of their religious beliefs. Last rites were not administered by priests with heavy crucifixes. Sons and daughters did not hear the songs of ritual death sung at the bedside of loved parents. Mothers and fathers were not able to weep as children fell before they themselves. The dead of September 11, 2001 mingled their dust with the dust of marble and brass. The last song they heard was the sound of two towers in collapse.

The carcass of Bin Laden received the respect of “Islamic practice” that Muslims on September 11, 2001 did not receive. For Muslims killed by Bin Laden on September 11, 2001 there was no washing of the body by Muslim men, wrapped in a white sheet, and set into the arms of eternity. For Christian and Jewish and Hindi and Buddhists there were no rituals of death to soften the passage into eternity either.

Osama Bin Laden was buried at sea almost immediately. There was no waiting beyond the 24 hours for Bin Laden as he went on to the many virgins he expected to be rewarded with. Bin Laden lived his life as he wanted to live it. Bin Laden left the earth in the ritual blessings he craved. It was his final victory.

  2. Honestly, I can’t believe this POS, who hired truther Van Jones (you-know – the guy who said Bush brought down the towers), who had so little respect for 911 he was for building a mosque there, who wouldn’t even bend at the waste to place flowers at the memorial site, that this POS is now going to take credit for avenging the US for 911.

This is all so wrong. And I still don’t believe it. Show me the friggin body!

    What’s the muslim reaction? Moononpluto?

Julia Roberts and Hillary Clinton Watched the Royal Wedding

    By Nisha Gopalan
    Monday May 02, 2011

On Friday, 22.8 million Americans watched the royal wedding on TV, and Julia Roberts and Hillary Clinton are proud to say they were among them.

For Roberts, the historic nuptials doubled as bonding time at home with her 6-year-old daughter. “I sat with Hazel in my lap watching it,” the Oscar winner, 43, told Time magazine in a joint interview with Clinton. The two have joined forces to promote the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, which brings home-cooking solutions to developing countries.

Roberts, no stranger to onscreen weddings (Runaway Bride and My Best Friend’s Wedding, for instance), reveled in watching someone else’s big day. “It was very exciting,” she said of Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s nuptials.

Even Secretary of State Clinton, 63, found time in her busy schedule to tune in to the wedding, which was also something of a family affair.

“I was on e-mail with my daughter and my 92-year-old mother lives with us,” she said, “so the three generations of women in my family were watching the royal wedding.” (Nine months earlier, the Clintons celebrated a hotly anticipated wedding of their own when Chelsea exchanged her vows with businessman Marc Mezvinsky.)

But for Clinton, the glamorous ceremony took on a greater significance.

“I deal with so many … painful decisions about what’s going on around the world every day,” she said. “To relish the happiness of these two young people who carry a lot of the hopes – of not only their fellow countrymen and women but people around the world who tuned in – it was very joyous.”

The United States is treating Osama bin Laden’s body in ‘accordance with Islamic practice,’ White House official says.

    &&&&&&&&&

I heard on the radio news this morning that he would be “buried at sea”. Which immediately brought to mind, “isn’t THAT convenient?”.

As in, “Yeah, we shot some guy, we get credit for ‘killing bin Laden’, the president gets credit for ‘making it happen’, no doubt leading to another Nobel Peace Prize, and Osama gets to live under cover in Las Vegas.

The NYT just the other day had a story on the voice of Saddam Hussein, with the conspiracy theorists thinking he was allowed to escape, and Bush gets credit for offing him. Wasn’t he too killed in such a way that confirmation could not be ascertained?

    What’s changed?

We all know the OBL had many doubles by the way. Show me the body!!!!

  6. Pakistani cooperation helped find bin Laden: Clinton

    Mon May 2, 2011

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday cooperation with Pakistan helped lead the United States to the Pakistani compound where Osama bin Laden was found and killed by U.S. special forces.

Clinton also said the United States remained committed to its partnership with Pakistan and she declined all comment on the potential payment of any reward for information that led to bin Laden.

  7. Turns out burial at sea is not Islamic practice at all. Whodathunk?
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110502/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_bin_laden_sea_burial

CAIRO – Muslim clerics said Monday that Osama bin Laden’s burial at sea was a violation of Islamic tradition that may further provoke militant calls for revenge attacks against American targets.
Although there appears to be some room for debate over the burial — as with many issues within the faith — a wide range of senior Islamic scholars interpreted it as a humiliating disregard for the standard Muslim practice of placing the body in a grave with the head pointed toward the holy city of Mecca.
Sea burials can be allowed, they said, but only in special cases where the death occurred aboard a ship.
Bin Laden’s burial at sea “runs contrary to the principles of Islamic laws, religious values and humanitarian customs,” said Sheik Ahmed al-Tayeb, the grand Imam of Cairo’s al-Azhar mosque, Sunni Islam’s highest seat of learning.
A radical cleric in Lebanon, Omar Bakri Mohammed, said, “The Americans want to humiliate Muslims through this burial, and I don’t think this is in the interest of the U.S. administration.”

  8. There would be plenty of evidence as to when the house was built. But what evidence as to when Bin Laden moved into it? It might have been built for some other person, and bought by Rezko.

    Sorry.

  9. And gas prices are only going up at a faster rate now.
No shit. I got gas today at 11am, then when I drove past the same gas station at 2pm it was already up 5 cents.
It’s like living in preWW2 Germany.

  10. Waterboarded Terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Gave US Name of OBL’s Courier

Barack Obama gave dozens of speeches about how the US will not torture (waterboard) under his administration.

Current and former U.S. officials say that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provided the nom de guerre of one of bin Laden’s most trusted aides. The CIA got similar information from Mohammed’s successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.

  12. I think it would have been better to capture him alive, have a military trial in Guantanomobay and then imprison him for life in a tiny cell in the maximum security prison where the Unabomber is also being kept.

It seems a little fishy that they only kept his body a few hours and then got rid of it. Something just doesn’t smell right.

And, gee, Obama just has to make the great announcement during “The Apprentice”.

Why get rid of the body so fast, where are the pictures, where is the independent, non-government verification of the body, why respect the murderer of Americans with a Sharia burial?

Obama has proven himself untrustworthy and incompetent. The deveil will be in the details.

  15. http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/05/02/obamas-bin-laden-bounce-may-be-short-lived

Despite the cheering from supporters and some media pundits that the killing of Osama bin Laden will be a “game changer” in the 2012 presidential election, polling from the two recent wartime headlines—victory in the first Gulf war and the capture of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein—show that public euphoria is fleeting.

In the Hussein capture case, former President Bush’s public approval polls jumped just 7 percent but within six weeks was at the all-time low for his presidency at that point in February 2004.

His dad, former President George H.W. Bush, reached an unheard of 90 percent public approval rating after winning the first Gulf War before losing 43 points in the next nine months leading to his loss to former President Bill Clinton.

Pollster John Zogby, who does the weekly Washington Whispers presidential report card, said, there will be a much-needed bounce in the polls for Obama. “Obama should see a major bump in the polls, especially from independents. Republicans will find it much harder to raise national security as a trump card against Obama,” said Zogby.

But GOP officials, eager not to be seen as critical of the killing, said that the public within a week will again be disgruntled over the prices of gasoline and basics like milk and coffee.

“I do not say this to be anti-Obama but I just don’t think this will have too much of an effect on the election,” said one key GOP official. “It’s absolutely a plus for the president and country but this isn’t going to change the day-to-day problems that are plaguing people. A year from now when you’re paying $4-a-gallon gas, the unemployment rate is at 8 percent, and the debt is still a huge threat, people are going to be feeling that intensely. The domestic issues are where the election will be and it’s where the president has some serious problems.”

Others said that Obama has picked up a huge new applause line for his campaign speeches, though some are cautioning the president not to take the killing too far or claim that he did what Bush couldn’t. “As long as he doesn’t overstep it by claiming ‘he got it done’ and talks about how ‘we’ got it done, then he will get a good ride out of this,” said an analyst.

  16. You know the nice thing about this fake Bin Laden death (no pics, no way he was killed by us – they’d have been showing them everywhere if they had actually found and killed him)? Democrats that remember this type of propaganda/disinformation from the Bush administration – and they were numerous – will recognize it as such and realize that Barry is no better than Bush, and is, in fact, the same product in a different package (please see picture on the right).

Every day more and more people are catching on. When the 2nd fake bc came out, computer experts around the world (and even just those familiar with Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator) were treated to what a liar the Forger-in-Chief is.

What stupid trick will Soebarkah try next to distract from the disaster that is his administration and his obvious ineligibility?

  17. “Obama should see a major bump in the polls, especially from independents. Republicans will find it much harder to raise national security as a trump card against Obama”

Oh my goodness, these jerks really think independents are stupid, aren’t they?? I’ve been polled as a democrat and as an a new independent since 2008. I cannot wait until this idiot zogby starts calling independents.

  18. “Others said that Obama has picked up a huge new applause line for his campaign speeches, though some are cautioning the president not to take the killing too far or claim that he did what Bush couldn’t. “As long as he doesn’t overstep it by claiming ‘he got it done’ and talks about how ‘we’ got it done, then he will get a good ride out of this,” ”

WRONG. How many times did the Waffles, say “I”, “Me”, “Mine”, 8 or 9 times. He praised himself more than the Navy seals. These people are under the impression the the paradigm for elections is still dems vs repubs, it is not! It is the elites in DC, media vs the american public.

  19. May Bin Laden’s ugly corpse be the feast during a shark frenzy.

I hope his brain was removed by one of our Navy Seals, and it’s kept in an old pickle jar, buried with a Voodoo doll from Hell.

Do they have rivers of chocolate and willing virgins in Hell?

    We get the job done.
    [Our] spirit is powerful.
    We continue to prevail.
    Growing hope.
    Renewed faith.

  22. Fox News and CNN are reporting that a new Osama bin Laden tape will be released shortly.

  23. Timeline doesn’t add up.

What time did the raid take place (our time) Seems like mid-afternoon coz BO was on TV at 10:30 p.m. Then according to reports, OBL was buried at sea at 2 a.m. after identity was confirmed via DNA?

SO there was less than 12 hours between death and burial?

And since the seals didn’t know until they got inside the compound that OBL was there, how did they have time to reach out to other governments to ask them to take OBL’S body? So the SEALS took the body aboard the helicopter, flew to an air craft carrier in the North Arabian Sea and disposed of the body after verifying it was OBL?

How did they verify so quickly and why not take another 12 hours to contact other governments to see if they would take OBL?

    Doesn’t add up. Pure B.S.

I mean, SEALS are good but

  24. I don’t know about you all, but its only been 1 day and I’m already tired of the media and their Messaih worship over all this.

I’m just tired, I’m worried about my business, I know families that are worried about losing their homes if they don’t make their next payments, I see college kids of my neighbors essentially not even look for work anymore because there is nothing out there.
I’m tired of all the praise this jerk is getting by the media that wants to prop him up when the the economy is just tanking all around middle class americans. I’m tired, I want some adults in charge who will tell America the truth and confront the truth and then help fix it, not just temporarily, but substantive fixes.

I’m now hearing that the Treasury is saying they can actually avoid raising the debt ceiling until august of this year, when Geither just last week said he had to be raised by may. How can anyone trust what these people say anymore or who can trust that they know what they are doing anymore?

I’m just tired of this whole charade. Just my rant I suppose for today.

  27. http://www.cnbc.com/id/42863614

this is the link I meant to post above, I suppose this is a good thing, but it can’t be done hapharzardly, there needs to be a responsible plan to limit govt spending, but grow the revenues at the same time.

“Meanwhile, the Treasury slashed its borrowing estimates for the April-June quarter by more than half to $142 billion as tax receipts rose and a battle over raising the debt ceiling looms.

The Treasury said the borrowing estimate is $156 billion lower than estimates made in January and attributed the decrease to higher receipts and lower outlays, which allowed it to start the quarter with a higher-than-expected cash balance.”

  28. What wood really kill elations would be for OBL second in command to release a menecing threatening tape. (I don’t want that to happen, but knowing this group, it probably will). I am glad he is gone, but he has groomed his replacement for 10 years.

  29. More timeline:

According to the John Brennan PC, (via Tapper) the SEALS arrived around 3:30 and they departed at roughly 4:15.

Bin Laden’s body was taken to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, and he was buried in the North Arabian Sea overnight — less than 12 hours after the raid.

Now, why in the world would Bomber call for a sea burial after one of the longest manhunts in US history? WTF??? There is something way out of whack with this scenario. And they had 24 hours to conform with Muslim custom yet took care of it in less than ten. How? Sounds impossible.

Remember how bomber sat on his weewee and refused to go after the Somali pirates?

I repeat. I. DO.NOT.BELEIVE.THIS. Why so anxious to get rid of all evidence?

    “NOEL CELIS/AFP/Getty Images
A man in Manila watches news coverage of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s death
    Summary
The killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden represents possibly the biggest clandestine operations success for the United States since the capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2003. The confirmation of his death is an emotional victory for the United States and could have wider effects on the geopolitics of the region, but bin Laden’s death is irrelevant for al Qaeda and the wider jihadist movement from an operational perspective.

    Analysis

Americans continued to celebrate the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden well into May 2 outside the White House, near the World Trade Center site in New York and elsewhere. The operation that led to bin Laden’s death at a compound deep in Pakistan is among the most significant operational successes for U.S. intelligence in the past decade. While it is surely an emotional victory for the United States and one that could have consequences both for the U.S. role in Afghanistan and for relations with Pakistan, bin Laden’s elimination will have very little effect on al Qaeda as a whole and the wider jihadist movement.
Due to bin Laden’s status as the most-wanted individual in the world, any communications he carried out with other known al Qaeda operatives risked interception, and thus risked revealing his location. This forced him to be extremely careful with communications for operational security and essentially required him to give up an active role in command-and-control in order to remain alive and at large. He reportedly used a handful of highly trusted personal couriers to maintain communication and had no telephone or Internet connection at his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Limited as his communications network was, if news reports are accurate, one of these couriers was compromised and tracked to the compound, enabling the operation against bin Laden.

Because of bin Laden’s aforementioned communications limitations, since October 2001 when he fled Tora Bora after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, he has been relegated to a largely symbolic and ideological role in al Qaeda. Accordingly, he has issued audiotapes on a little more than a yearly basis, whereas before 2007 he was able to issue videotapes. The growing infrequency and decreasing quality of his recorded messages was most notable when al Qaeda did not release a message marking the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in September 2010 but later followed up with a tape on Jan. 21, 2011.

The reality of the situation is that the al Qaeda core — the central group including leaders like bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri — has been eclipsed by other jihadist actors on the physical battlefield, and over the past two years it has even been losing its role as an ideological leader of the jihadist struggle. The primary threat is now posed by al Qaeda franchise groups like al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the latter of which may have carried out the recent attack in Marrakech, Morocco. But even these groups are under intense pressure by local government and U.S. operations, and much of the current threat comes from grassroots and lone wolf attackers. These actors could attempt to stage an attack in the United States or elsewhere in retribution for bin Laden’s death, but they do not have the training or capabilities for high-casualty transnational attacks.
STRATFOR long considered the possibility that bin Laden was already dead, and in terms of his impact on terrorist operations, he effectively was. That does not mean, however, that he was not an important ideological leader or that he was not someone the United States sought to capture or kill for his role in carrying out the most devastating terrorist attack in U.S. history.

Aggressive U.S. intelligence collection efforts have come to fruition, as killing bin Laden was perhaps the top symbolic goal for the CIA and all those involved in U.S. covert operations. Indeed, Obama said during his speech May 1 that upon entering office, he had personally instructed CIA Director Leon Panetta that killing the al Qaeda leader was his top priority. The logistical challenges of catching a single wanted individual with bin Laden’s level of resources were substantial, and while 10 years later, the United States was able to accomplish the objective it set out to do in October 2001. The bottom line is that from an operational point of view, the threat posed by al Qaeda — and the wider jihadist movement — is no different operationally after his death.”

  33. ““The death of Osama Bin Laden is in fact the triumph of good over evil, but we have now created a martyr,” Gartman added.” from the posted article/interview above in CNBC

While most of the free world praised the United States for having rid it of arch-terrorist Bin Laden, the Hamas organization – which has recently all but merged with Fatah, headed by Mahmoud Abbas – condemned the act.

I’m sure it was a tape he made in case of his death but neither channel has verified that.

  36. Just think about it:

The raid on OBL was planned for Saturday but scrapped becausee of poor weather (according to reports).

If true, when BO was going for TRUMP at the WHCD, he already knew this was in the pipeline. He must have been pretty sure of success. Could that account for the magnitude of the vitriol he leveled against Trump?

Like I keep saying, something don’t add up.

Or did Trump unearth such a firestorm, added to FOIL releases of his father’s immigration papers, that he felt like he needed an immediate gamechanger?

It’s all about the timing. Remember that. Nothing ever happens that does not benefit him personally.

  37. If the Al Qaeda people claim Bin Laden is still alive, and the US believes them — then the US will go on looking for him. Would they want that?

Well, maybe. If BL’s aim was to stir up trouble and get the US in a land war in Asia

  38. Barry bows to Arabs and Muslins, then he gets a PEACE price, and now gives the order that causes Bin’s death.

Oooo, guess all his bowing and ass kissing has gone to waste.

Yes, imo. And also for choosing to release the lfbc at that time. Just before the Bin Laden news would break. So Trump would have no chance to respond.

Imo the raid and its timing were legit; but Obama might have fitted his bc and his Trump roast around that timing.

Don’t make me laugh. We all know the answer to that one.

Obama can’t help but overstep and take credit, and Obama will travel with “bin Laden’s scalp” at every campaign stop.

Cue the emcee at a 2012 Obama Re-election Pep Rally:

“Heeeeeere’s your president, the man whose tenanciousness led to years of planning, with him personally micromanaging the mission, even to the details of what kind of attack helicopters would be used, the types of guns the Seals would carry, and the bullet that killed him was personally signed by Obama. Yes, here’s the leader of the Free World, and winner of the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, and winner of magazine Soldier of Fortune’s Man of the Year. Barack Frikkin Obama!!!!”

Obama: “Thank you very much for your kind words. Maybe you give me too much credit for that mission. Or maybe not…”

  43. From Ambinder;

‘After bursts of fire over 40 minutes, 22 people were killed or captured. One of the dead was Osama bin Laden, done in by a double tap — boom, boom — to the left side of his face. His body was aboard the choppers that made the trip back. One had experienced mechanical failure and was destroyed by U.S. forces, military and White House officials tell National Journal.’

    Still waiting for proof.

  44. If the raid on the compound was supposed to happen a day earlier, BO might have planned to head off examination of the bc with this story, but it got delayed a day so he used the correspondence dinner to distract from it. It worked.

If History Is Guide, Bin Laden Killing May Not Boost Obama
Academics, polling suggest the event may not lift the president.

    By George E. Condon Jr.

  47. Paul Bedard

    Bounce may be short-lived

Despite the cheering from supporters and some media pundits that the killing of Osama bin Laden will be a “game changer” in the 2012 presidential election, polling from the two recent wartime headlines—victory in the first Gulf war and the capture of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein—show that public euphoria is fleeting.

In the Hussein capture case, former President Bush’s public approval polls jumped just 7 percent but within six weeks was at the all-time low for his presidency at that point in February 2004.

[See photos of celebrations at Ground Zero and the White House.]

[See a slide show of 6 vulnerable potential terrorist targets.]

  48. [snip]

Along with bin Laden’s body, electronics and hard drives were seized by U.S. forces following the firefight Sunday afternoon.

They have started to arrive at the CIA’s Virginia headquarters, officials said. They described the cache as a “volume of materials” that will be “exploited and analyzed” at CIA headquarters.

It’s unclear what kinds of information the files might contain. Intelligence officials spent years tracking the threads of information that eventually led them to the courier that led them to bin Laden’s compound. But officials have said the successful mission Sunday is only one step in the ongoing fight against Al Qaeda and its affiliates.

White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan, without going into detail, said Monday that analysts are in the process of reviewing the materials they obtained on site, to determine the next step.

“We feel as though this is a very important time to … take advantage of the steps of yesterday and to continue to work to break the back of Al Qaeda,” he said. Asked about the cache of evidence, he said: “It’s not necessarily quantity. Frequently, it’s quality.”

Hold the Phone! That Sure Sounds Like Saddam Hussein.
    =================

    By TIM ARANGO
    Published: April 28, 2011

BAGHDAD — There haven’t been any Saddam sightings, yet. But he is still in the house, some Iraqis believe, and was heard from just this week.

Saddam Hussein would have turned 74 on Thursday, and a steady stream of people visited his grave site near his hometown, Tikrit, passing out sweets to fellow mourners and curiosity seekers.

But to some Iraqis he will never die.

Since the former dictator’s execution in December 2006, numerous conspiracy theories of the Elvis variety have percolated. And with precision timing on the eve of Mr. Hussein’s birthday, a new YouTube video landed that depicted an actual recent phone call between a member of Iraq’s Parliament and a man who claimed to be Mr. Hussein, whose voice and inflection so resembled that of the former dictator’s that it even gave pause to those who are convinced that Mr. Hussein is dead.

“When I heard Saddam’s voice on the Internet, I cried so much,” said Ahmed Kamil, 43, who was visiting the grave site. “I felt that I was dreaming.”

One cultural remnant of Iraq’s years of totalitarianism, when people lived in fear of a dictator’s secret police, is a tendency for rumors and conspiracy theories to flourish. Last year, after the parliamentary elections, a rumor that Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki had been assassinated lived for days until Mr. Maliki appeared on television. With Mr. Hussein, like Elvis, there will probably always be a tiny thread of society that doubts the official version of events.

“The U.S. should dig up his grave and check for his DNA,” one commenter wrote Thursday on the Arabic news Web site Hawamer.

The tale of Mr. Hussein’s recent phone call began about two weeks ago when Hassan al-Allawi, a writer and politician who was once a Baath Party member and close friend of Mr. Hussein, received a phone call at home. When he realized who the caller was purporting to be, he put the voice on a speaker for his dinner guests.

“The guests were scared,” Mr. Allawi said in a telephone interview Thursday from Beirut. “They said, ‘That is Saddam.’ ”

Mr. Allawi, who stood by Mr. Hussein’s side as he rose to power and was briefly imprisoned before fleeing into exile, said he maintained a fondness for his former patron, even though he had embraced the democratic transition here as a member of Parliament. “Until this day, I love Saddam,” he said.

The call, he said, was jarring. “Saddam used certain words and emotions when he talked to me,” he said. “And this guy had all those words and emotions in this call.”

He added, “If I didn’t believe that Saddam was killed, I would say this is the real Saddam.”

Mr. Allawi said he was surprised that a recording of the call, set to still photographs of Mr. Hussein and himself, was released on YouTube this week.

He said he believed that the perpetrators of the prank chose him, “because I was such a close friend of Saddam.”

During the call, which Mr. Allawi said he listened to on YouTube and verified as accurate, he never questioned the identity of the caller, but seemingly embraced the deceit. Mr. Allawi noted to the caller that even after being exiled he maintained his affection for Mr. Hussein.

The caller imitating Mr. Hussein replied, “First of all, I thank you Hassan. I thank you, Hassan. Saddam is alive.”

Mr. Allawi later said, “I am happy to hear your voice,” and told the caller that he was now working for the good of Iraq, not his personal gain like other politicians.

The caller claimed that in 2006 it was actually a body double of Mr. Hussein named “Mikhail” who was executed. Mr. Hussein often used body doubles, and for this reason many of the conspiracy theories about Mr. Hussein’s death suggest that it was one of these men who was hanged. The caller told Mr. Allawi to give a message to the Iraqi people that the Baath Party would return to power.

“I will burn the Green Zone and I will make it red with the blood of the traitors,” the caller said.

On a Facebook page called “The Great Saddam Hussein,” which counts about 14,000 members, one member who identified himself as Ahmed Ismael wrote of the video: “Saddam is a great leader, whether he was killed or is alive. Honestly, we hope he is alive so he can bring Iraq to what it was before.”

Even some who are still supportive of Mr. Hussein but believe he is dead, saw a conspiracy behind the posting of the YouTube video.

Laith Jamal, 37, visited Mr. Hussein’s grave on Thursday after listening to the recording of the phone call. “I was happy when I heard the recording because it sounded like Saddam speaking,” he said. “But I think this recording was published by the traitors of the Green Zone to give a bad image of the great Saddam, and to keep pressure on the Sunni areas that supported Saddam.”

  54. This comment at the Hill sums up my sentiments nicely.

Buried at sea less than 24 hrs after capture?? Sorry, but this doesn’t even begin to pass the sniff test. Are we supposed to believe that, after having just violated the sovereign territory of a muslim country and executing a leading muslim figure in cold blood, that suddenly the Obama administration had a twinge of conscience regarding respecting muslim tradition??? That suddenly he was worried about what the muslim world would think?? He already had ordered the assassination of Bin Laden, so how could the perception in the muslim world possibly get any worse? Does he think they’ll somehow suddenly respect the USA for “burying” the body within 24 hrs???

This is beyond ludicrous and so completely incomprehensibl e that Obama needs to go on record ASAP to fully explain the reasoning behind this decision. If Bin Laden has truly been assassinated, the world needs hard, irrefutable evidence, not just the self-agrandizing blatherings of a notoriously poll-mongering narcissist with a long and well-documented track record of misleading the American public.
    ******************************************

Not to mention I don’t believe DNA tests are instantaneous. And there is apparently no law about Muslim sea burials.

    NOT

  55. CREDIBILITY GAP

Even if Obama had no past credibility problems, if he was very transparent, there would still be some conspiracy nuts saying, “This can’t be true”.

But with his stonewalling for the most basic information, even declassified stuff like school transcripts, it’s no wonder that people are wondering if this is a Wag the Dog moment.

When you lose you credibility, you got nothin’.

With Obama, is there anything else beside rhetoric??

  57. Yup. Agree 1000 %, rgb.

As I stated in a similar way upthread:

“Please excuse my skepticism, but it was initially reported that the operation took place a week ago and the announcement was withheld pending DNA testing…however, Zippy claimed it took place last night. I smell a RAT. I guess anything is possible, but I find it hard to believe that there was a DNA analysis conducted in the heat of battle on the floor of a US Blackhawk helicopter. Just saying….”

  58. OK, call me a fruitcake but I’m leaning toward OBL having been killed – or died – a week or more ago and the story being held, worldwide, until BO decided to pull the trigger.

The triple whammy against TRUMP is too transparent. Release the LFBC, excoriate him at the WHCD and then announce OBL’s death during the airing of the CA.

If that’s all he’s got, it would seem TRUMP must be warming up for the next round. At least that’s what I hope.

    BTW, about the sea grave:

CAIRO — Muslim clerics said Monday that Usama bin Laden’s burial at sea was a violation of Islamic tradition that may further provoke militant calls for revenge attacks against American targets.

A U.S. official said the burial decision was made after concluding that it would have been difficult to find a country willing to accept the remains. There was also speculation about worry that a grave site could have become a rallying point for militants.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters.
President Barack Obama said the remains had been handled in accordance with Islamic custom, which requires speedy burial, and the Pentagon later said the body was placed into the waters of the northern Arabian Sea after adhering to traditional Islamic procedures — including washing the corpse — aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

But the Lebanese cleric Mohammed called it a “strategic mistake” that was bound to stoke rage.

In Washington, CIA director Leon Panetta warned that “terrorists almost certainly will attempt to avenge” the killing of the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks.

“Bin Laden is dead,” Panetta wrote in a memo to CIA staff. “Al-Qaida is not.”

According to Islamic teachings, the highest honor to be bestowed on the dead is giving the deceased a swift burial, preferably before sunset. Those who die while traveling at sea can have their bodies committed to the bottom of the ocean if they are far off the coast, according to Islamic tradition.

“They can say they buried him at sea, but they cannot say they did it according to Islam,” Mohammed al-Qubaisi, Dubai’s grand mufti, said about bin Laden’s burial. “If the family does not want him, it’s really simple in Islam: You dig up a grave anywhere, even on a remote island, you say the prayers and that’s it.”

“Sea burials are permissible for Muslims in extraordinary circumstances,” he added. “This is not one of them.”

But Mohammed Qudah, a professor of Islamic law at the University of Jordan, said burying the Saudi-born bin Laden at sea was not forbidden if there was nobody to receive the body and provide a Muslim burial.

“The land and the sea belong to God, who is able to protect and raise the dead at the end of times for Judgment Day,” he said. “It’s neither true nor correct to claim that there was nobody in the Muslim world ready to receive bin Laden’s body.”

Clerics in Iraq, where an offshoot of Al Qaeda is blamed for the death of thousands of people since 2003, also criticized the U.S. action. One said it only benefited fish.

“If a man dies on a ship that is a long distance from land, then the dead man should be buried at the sea,” said Shiite cleric Ibrahim al-Jabari. “But if he dies on land, then he should be buried in the ground, not to be thrown into the sea. Otherwise, this would be only inviting fish to a banquet.”

The Islamic tradition of a quick burial was the subject of intense debate in Iraq in 2003 when U.S. forces embalmed the bodies of Saddam Hussein’s two sons after they were killed in a firefight. Their bodies were later shown to media.

“What was done by the Americans is forbidden by Islam and might provoke some Muslims,” said another Islamic scholar from Iraq, Abdul-Sattar al-Janabi, who preaches at Baghdad’s famous Abu Hanifa mosque. “It is not acceptable and it is almost a crime to throw the body of a Muslim man into the sea. The body of bin Laden should have been handed over to his family to look for a country or land to bury him.”

Why that photo of a dead Osama bin Laden is a photoshopped fake

Hat-tip to the Telegraph’s Conrad Quilty-Harper and one sharp-eyed Redditpics user for spotting that the bottom half of the photo of a dead Osama bin Laden looks like one we already had (albeit the mirrored version).

Having taken the bottom half of the photo on the top left, I’ve just made this on photoshop in about 30 seconds. See what I mean?
It doesn’t change the fact that Osama bin Laden is dead. But it does prove that photos of the corpse are not in the public domain. Yet.

Update. I’ve been emailed the full image from which the top half is taken. It’s gory, but here – with a warning that the content may upset some – is the link for those that aren’t yet convinced.

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive in Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith. O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family. O Allah, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light. O Allah, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this.

That’s actually the best answer to the question I posed up front. Would a Pakistani intelligence official tolerate Bin Laden living next door to the country’s military establishment? Sure, why not? What will they lose by hiding him in plain sight? Thanks to their nuclear bargaining chip and the eternal fear of what would happen to it if the state either broke down or launched a rash attack on India, we’ll never abandon them to the fate they deserve. They’re too big nuts to fail. They might as well stash Zawahiri in the basement of the presidential palace for all the repercussions they’ll suffer for doing so. In fact, given how diseased that society is, ISI may have calculated that hiding Bin Laden in plain sight near a military facility would reassure jihadis if he was ever caught by the U.S. It’d be de facto proof to the mujahedeen that Osama had been well taken care of by the state and that the American operation was an independent affair.

  76. Admin, “O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; ”

I don’t remember even Bush being this overt about using a situtation to his advantage. He could have gone to the Pentagon which was also attacked, but no, he has to go to NYC, to show off. My God this man really is one arrogant jerk.

“An administration official says President Barack Obama will travel to New York City on Thursday to mark the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

Obama is expected to visit ground zero, the site of al-Qaida’s attack on the World Trade Center, and meet with the families of those killed nearly 10 years ago.”

I remember when Mccain and his wife went to ground zero, he and his wife gently laid down their roses, and Waffles tossed it dismissively. The difference between the 2 was extremely stark.

I just wonder what family even would want to meet with him, his supporters, oh yes, but really, who else, its nothing but a campaign stop. Maybe he’ll stop by the the View and let them adore him and throw rose petals at him for being the mega-hero he sees himself as.

  81. If Obama were a person of character he would be flanked at that 911 site by George Bush and Bill Clinton.

Absolutely agree with you, that would have gained so much support for him, heck even I would have given him a lot of credit for putting the country before his constant campaigning. But now he needs to build up his cred for the 2012 election, what a pathetic display of selfishness.
First his, “I, Me, Mine” speech, and now this.

MoveOn.org Political Action’s thirty second spot is planned to begin airing nationwide on cable this week. The ad buy is $100,000.

The ad, “Exploiting 9/11,” reminds Americans of the now discredited claims and promises made by the President and Republican leaders in Congress about the connection between 9/11 and Sadaam Hussein; the capture of Osama bin Laden; and making the country safer by invading Iraq.

  86. ‘u changed your stance in 8 minutes?’

What do you mean? I believe he could well be and probably is dead but not in the way that has been reported as I posted about extensively while reacting to the news.

I want to know what REALLY happened. Something is wrong with the reports of the body having been buried at sea and the reasons for conducting an at-sea burial. So excuse me if I wasn’t perfectly clear.

I am clear that BO is milking and twisting this epeisode and spewing plenty of disinformation. As usal.

    Is that clear enough?

Been pondering the opening paragraph of your post today.Tried to see it from that perspective, but I still think it was staged and to use such a moment for political gain places those who coordinated it beneath contempt in my eyes.(More so the WH than Times Square or Ground Zero)
Ever since the primaries when the lame stream press would go on endlessly about the tremendous support at waffles’ rallies without ever mentioning that Dave matthews was giving a free concert in conjunction with his stilted speeches I have been suspect.
I hope I am wrong, but my reaction was visceral.

  88. FOX in full destruct mode against Hillary.Mush mouth Oreally was highly critical of her speecg today and laughed at her trust of some muslim and arab leaders that supported the destruction of OBL. He is a vile person and an egomaniac to boot.I have just placed FOX as #1 on my s— list.I am begining to think that Hillary should think twice about running for POTUS.Without her BO will be exposed to the world that he is bubbleheaded weak link in our once great democracy.

    ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  90. It is hilarious to watch Obama and his bought and paid for whores in big media–like Tapper, try to pretend that Obama is responsible for the elimination of Osama. They make it appear as if he spearheaded the project, gave the kill order and zappo Bin Ladin is communing with 23 virgins. Anyone with an I-Q over 50 knows the sociopathic Obama was leading from the rear as he always does–which is to say he was present and nothing more. Intelligence officers brought him the hit plan on a silver platter, and all they asked for was a simple yes or no. That took five meetings to get an answer from the sociopath–those damned golf projects kept interfering cause a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.Finally, when the hit was confirmed, the sociopath gave us a clear sense of his petty vindictive nature, by timing his speech to pre-empt Donald Trump’s show. I do not think the American People are fooled by Obama. Not at this point.

  91. How many guards did bin Laden have and were they captured. They said there were 6 sons and 1 killed but no word on any guards. How many people will a helicopter hold.

  92. Bob Woodward is on CNN and he’s written a book called ‘Obama’s Wars’. He says Obama takes the center road almost always.

  93. I know no Hillary supporters who did not support him in 2008 who plan to support him in 2012.
    ————————-
Neither do I. But I know plenty of people who did support him in 2008 who will never do it again, after seeing what hope and change really means. Whether they vote Republican or simply stay home will depend on who the Republican candidate is, but they cannot do to their county again what they did to it in 2008. And that is the truth big media is afraid to talk about. For big media this they support him because it protects their life styles and gives them access. Their problem is they are not longer trusted or listened to by sentient beings.

  94. what the hell? This lady lost her son, gave money from life insurance to CUNY to set up a scholarship fund in her son’s name. CUNY refused to name the scholrahip grant in her son’s name (they had it originally in his name and then changed it to something else), and so she wants to cancel that scholarship and CUNY refuses to give the money back. What the hell is wrong with these people at CUNY?

    http://supportyourlocalgunfighter.com/2011/05/cuny-refuses-to-award-9-11-memorial-grant/

  95. Admin: your analysis is spot on. It was in the interests of this country for bin Laden to be taken alive and debriefed. If that was done under conditions of extreme interrogation, it might well have produced a treasure trove of information about al Quaeda activities and personnel that would help us interdict future terrorist strikes against innocent people. At the same time, it would have deprived the extremists of the martyr they now have. And, it would have implicated some of Obama’s friends in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, who helped install him in office. But killing him eliminated those possibilities, let him die as he promised and created a martyrdom which likely to inspire a new wave of terrorism. Thus, knowing Obama as we do, I wonder whether the order was to kill, or to take him alive.

  96. He is a vile person and an egomaniac to boot.

I get that it might have been important for the country as a whole to celebrate the demise of the heinous man and seeing it on tv gave perhaps tens if not a couple of hundred million a vicarious release. Maybe my view has just become so jaundiced with regards to the boy king but I felt like I was being played. And that is something I strongly resent.
I can see it taking place in NYC, but not so much in DC.
I could be wrong. The universities around DC are filled with some pretty bright and politically active young adults and twitter broke all kinds of records last night(something like 3,000/sec). So maybe word traveled fast and that age group is more likely to be following someone on twitter and has the freedom to be spontaneous- no need to find a sitter, and it wouldn’t be the first time an 8 am class would be blown off. And I think I was unduly critical of 18 to 22 year olds and what they remember of 9/11. It was everywhere for days on end. The fears, the horror, the innocence robbed of kids that day is unfathomable. May not have comprehended what took place but most certainly detected an abstract fear from their parents. I think I am going to follow the advice of that view member( Elizabeth Hasselbeck?) who refused to engage the cosmetic surgery addicted doyenne(WaWA) and the woman who resembles the puppet from the Waylon Flowers and madam shtick of the 80’s(behar) and just refrain from politicizing this for the time being. Hopefully, some closure has been given to the bereft. Yesterday probably reopened a lot of old wounds. Bambi can be attacked on his record and his response soon enough.

Yep, that was my comment too.. he is shrinking into nothing.. He hardly has any presence. (Norma Desmond linked this picture earlier..)

  99. Well, you would figure that the mainstream media would try to call this a game changer. They are dead wrong. Any bounce here will be fleeting. And it does not matter except symbolically. These fucking college jerks who cheered in front of the white house is pure Potemkin Village. If those same assholes had been asked to enlist in the military to defend this country, they would opt out. And some of them are move on.org. I make an exception for the people at Ground Zero. They are entitled to closure, and is this death gives that to them then I am glad. But from the country’s standpoint, it was a shame he was not taken alive for the reasons above.

  100. “Osama bin Laden dead: Yes, SEALs were in on the raid, but aides hail Obama’s office bravery” is a title of a piece in the LA Times and pretty much sums it up. Apparently not of the press are going to drool all week.

  101. “SEALs were in on the raid, but aides hail Obama’s office bravery””

Yes, because signing a piece of paper is so much more dangerous than being on the ground where a navy seal is putting his/her life on the line.

Such bravery by Waffles, the danger of paper cuts is tremendous.

  102. Why I think they pushed Bin Laden off the boat:

1 – So there would not be a body on land in the US.

2 – So the mutilated body wouldn’t be disclosed.

……..possibly a part was taken for DNA testing, why not his brain? They had his sister’s brain to compare…I am going to delete what I wrote after that so Big Pink doesn’t enrage those wackjobs with what I am thinking.

    CUNY is beyond repair.
It was my third university and even as a junior transfer student I had to take an assessment test. Basic comprehension and math skills.
I had two of the greatest teachers/professors/classes I had ever experienced, but I also was in 3 and 4 hundred level courses when my classmates could not comprehend even the most basic instructions. I don’t think the other students lacked intelligence I think they lacked education. Instead of the university system adhering to basic standards they caved. What should have been done is you take a standardized test to get in and if you do not pass you attend a community college until you can, Not what happened the standards just dropped and dropped. Such a shame as it is a brilliant resource if run correctly. Tuition is still very cheap for city residents and I love the system but they need to make some serious changes. Maybe making the tuition merit based for those kids who got a bum deal out of high school but work their asses off in a community college? Reward hard work.

  104. Obama did look like he’d seen a ghost, whereas Hillary just looked like she cared that none of our soldiers got hurt….

It will be a moment in history…that’s for sure! It looks like Obama is close to fainting…

Already-Written Book About Navy Seal Group That Killed Osama Bin Laden Suddenly Hot

    Source: Hollywood Reporter

A book about the Navy Seal group Seal Team Six, members of which killed Osama Bin Laden in a mansion near Islamabad, will be published this May.

According to Publisher’s Weekly, the book, Seal Team Six is by Howard Wasdin, is due to hit stores on May 24.

It will chronicle the specialized military group, called Naval Special Warfare Development Group or DevGru for short. It’s a unit of the Joint Special Operations Command, which costs the country more than $1 billion annually to fund.

  108. Based on what I saw on tonight’s news shows, I am anticipating a 7-11% bump .
    ————————–
I would be surprised if it did not. But it will not last. If they had a stone statue in the White House right now its approval ratings would go up. But that is not a verdict on his leadership, nor is the bump sustainable. If we day trade his stock we will get frustrated, because there are too many people manipulating it, and there is no republican alternative. They can only blow a balloon up so far before it bursts. And the right pin at the right time can let loose all the political hot air. It still gets back to the fundamentals, after the roar of the crowd and the smell of the greasepaint have subsided. I know. I have had some nasty hangovers in my time–8 Bombay martinis one dreadful night and now I cannot stand the sight of Bombay. Now I settle for Tangueray No. 10. Don’t know the site. Obuma does look angry (and sulking) in that picture. Jarrett not being there is really big I think. Looks like Bill Daley is making him do the right things — someone else commented the speech was not all that obnoxious. Also I wonder if Bill Daley gave the talking points to the congress people — the lines about giving credit to all three presidents. That would never have come from Obuma.

  112. Just a question if osama is no longer America’s most wanted for being the biggest threat to America does that mean soros moves up to number one? I’d be dancing in the streets if that rat prick bastard kicked the bucket. Number three you decide my vote is pelousy, May justice be served.

    ______________

Well, our guy will work for the imposter, without a doubt. He is for the North American perimiter, which will make all of us lose our sovereignty. I hear he has a brand new agreement that he wants to sign with the European Union which, no doubt, will sell Canada short. He already has built a couple of superprisons and has plans for more. Before he went into politics he was the head of an organization called National Citizens Coalition who had on their webiste that their mission statement was to get rid of public health care. Now, of course, that is all scrubbed. I read an article yesterday that actually compared him to Wolfowitz and the worse of the neocons. But I have one philosophy – people get the government they deserve. I’ll just quit following Canadian politics for the next four years. That will prevent me from getting an ulcer.

  118. Tonight we did indeed see Stephen Harper obtain a majority government in Canada. While Andy and I disagree about whether this should have happened or not, I for one was very tired of minority governing and less than enchanted with the Liberal leader.

What I was shocked about though, was that I never in a million years thought our liberals would go down to a measly 30 seats.

I would have much preferred a Liberal minority than the NDP minority we ended up with.

  119. Like I said, Obama had better not plan to visit any of his relatives in Kenya or visit the place where he said he got all that foreign political experience, Indonesia after he loses miliary protection. They may not take too well to his last directive, if in fact he really gave the directive.

Do you know what a majority government is? I feel sorry for you people. A majority government means that Harper can do what he wants with no opposition. He wins all the commons votes hand-down. Now that does not bother me when you have a person with integrity, but that bastard has none. I don’t understand how you can come to this site and support Hillary and what she stands for and be happy that we just elected someone of the calibre of Dick Cheney. Explain that to me really slow and maybe I will get it.

  125. The story already starts changing. What else will we find out about why the US ditched the body within 12 hours.

  126. From Ulsterman

“Point of determination made FOR Obama not BY Obama. Will clarify as details become more clear. Very clear divide between Military and WH. Jarrett marginalized 100% on decision to take out OBL. She played no part. BD worked with LP and HC to form coalition to force CoC to engage.

IMPORTANT SPECIFIC: When 48 hour go order issued, CoC was told, not requested. Administration scrambled to abort. That order was overruled. This order did not originate from CoC. Repeat – this order did not originate from CoC. He complied, but did not originate.

Independent military contacts have confirmed. Stories corroborate one another. This is legit.

  128. Several good articles at LC for those who can follow his train of thought. he connects it all to the BC. Who knows?

“In all of this, the Muslim mind will hear the following that Sheik bin Laden was with his family, did not fight back, his wife heroically tried to protect him, he was going to surrender as he never fired his weapon, and in turn the Obama regime murdered him…………..

………and the case being Obama deposed of the body immediately, the world will never know if Sheik bin Laden was dead years ago, months ago or days ago and this was all just something more in the 2 million dollar scheme to hide Obama’s birth status as a foreigner.”

Ironic, isn’t it, to hear all the lefties so against water boarding, so again Guantanamo, so for civil trials for terrorists squeal their lungs out in support to the POTUS murder. Hypocrites all.

  129. Oh, look here! How do you like them apples, lefties and anti-warists?

A crucial break appears to have come on May 2, 2005, when Pakistani special forces arrested a senior al-Qaeda operative known as Abu Faraj al-Libbi, who had been designated bin Laden’s “official messenger” to others within the organization. Libbi was later turned over to the CIA and held at a “black site” prison where he was subjected to the harsh methods that the George W. Bush administration termed “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

Libbi and other detainees pointed CIA interrogators to another messenger with close ties to the al-Qaeda leader. U.S. officials said they started only with the mystery courier’s nom de guerre, and that it took four years to uncover his actual identity, his approximate location in Pakistan and ultimately the compound where bin Laden was found.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/bin-laden-discovered-hiding-in-plain-sight/2011/05/02/AFEljUbF_print.html

  130. What’s interesting is that I recall watching a docu on TV within the last couple of years, might have been about Air Force One or something along that line. They mentioned near the end of the program that there are 28 levels of security clearances that are above the President. I remember being shocked to hear that, and that the number was so high. It is about the only detail that has helped keep me somewhat calmer in having that lying usurping asshole in there these many long months.

The look on his face in the pic is very telling. Oh he’s pissed alright, but even more is the stark, sheer terror, showing through shrinking his demeanor. He’s looking more than a tad green around the gills too. His name is fully linked to Osama’s “official demise” now in the muslim world, the last thing he wanted. I’d really like to see the look on his face when he discovered his minions had sent out a proper birth cert file to the AP in black and white, but in their rush to get a full color one *fixed up cough cough* to upload on the gov site they forgot to flatten the mocked up layers in the final step. The whole world knows now what a fuck-up forgery it exposed.

At first I thought it was done on purpose-purpose but I’m leaning more to karmic sabotage. Whether by a slipup, incompetence, revenge, or divine synchronicity, it doesn’t matter. Big ass bone headed mistake. There was enough wrong with it visually just taking it at face value if their goal was to keep the underlying “thorns” busy with no solid proof for further ridicule. To leave the equivalent of your wallet at the heist even many Obots are finally jumping ship over this one. They love their tekkie tools too much, and scales are falling from eyes faster. Welcome to the cold hard non-hopium reality party, asshats.

Please don’t insult my intelligence. I have tried to be fair in my posts to you. I expect the same treatment back.

Yes I know damn well what a “majority” is. And the idea of a “liberal” majority in any way shape or form would allow them to do whatever they wanted as well. Not necessarily a good thing either.

  133. What did Hillary Clinton see?

    May 3rd, 2011

I’ve seen the photograph, bound to become iconic, of President Obama and other senior members of his administration watching the live video of Osama bin Laden’s killing. The image captures Hillary Clinton’s expression of horror: the Secretary of State’s eyes are wide with fright and she holds a hand to her mouth, as if to stifle a gasp. I bet it wasn’t the Navy Seals gunning down the al-Qaeda chief that shocked her; rather, the cruel cowardice of one of bin Laden’s men, who held up a woman as human shield. That does it, I can almost hear Mrs Clinton say through clenched teeth – proof of their hatred of women.

One of the consequences of Sunday’s raid will be to confirm every feminist’s fear that Muslims treat women as disposable objects, only good to pleasure a man, or to save his life. The feminists’ hatred of Islam is based on generalisations and plain ignorance. They see the holy book as an Islamic carte blanche for domestic violence, genital mutilation and other milder forms of discrimination.

Muslim scholars such as Shaista Gohir, however, have shown that the Koran can be interpreted as a document in support of womanhood.

But the Koran cannot save Muslim cultures from misogyny. In some countries, it starts in the womb: hundreds of thousands of female foetuses are discarded before birth. Theologians have called for a ban on sex selection, but it remains big business in Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Girls’ education may have made huge advances in the Arab world but there are still pockets like Yemen where only 60 girls for every 100 boys attend school. (In Iraq, it is 70, in Morocco, more than 80.) Arranged marriages, which include pre-pubescent girls marrying septuagenarians, still take place with the Imam’s blessing; and polygamy is still approved (Osama had five wives). Divorce, in Islam, is an unfair business: when a man decides that he wants to split up from his wife, he may do so – as long as he returns her dowry. When a woman wants to divorce her husband, she must still overcome a series of legal obstacles, including calling on witnesses to testify to his cruelty or infidelity. Female circumcision, and the bans on women driving, showing their faces in public, and going out of their home without a chaperone, may not hold true in every Muslim country, but they do nothing to counter the view of Islam as woman-hating.

And now we have one of the Islamist elites, a disciple of bin Laden’s, holding up a woman as a shield in the gun fight that claimed his leader’s life. How ironic. Bin Laden fought to raise Islam above what he saw as the prejudices of the “infidels”; in the minutes leading up to his death, his closest followers showed he achieved the exact opposite.

  140. More on Canada…like the ass’t bar mananger…I am sure we have a few…from ACE
    ***

    Canadian Elections
    —DrewM.

Looks like Stephen Harper is not only going to remain Prime Minister, he’s going to take the Conservatives from a minority government to a pretty strong majority one.

As of 10:45 p.m. ET, the Conservatives had won or were leading in about 160 seats out of the 308 in the House of Commons, five more than needed for a majority, while the New Democrats had soared past 100 and the Liberals had tumbled to about 30.
The Conservative run started in Atlantic Canada, where the Tories overtook the Liberals in the popular vote and added three of the 12 additional seats needed to ensure solid control of Parliament.

The Liberals emerged from the Maritimes scarred but alive, having dropped two seats to the New Democrats and three to the Conservatives. The Tories picked up one seat by a razor-thin margin in Newfoundland and Labrador after being shut out in the last election.

As polls had suggested, the NDP trounced the Bloc in Quebec while the Harper Tories scored big gains in Ontario at the expense of the Liberals who once owned the province federally.

The other major story seems to be the destruction of the Liberal Party and the Quebec separatist Bloc Québécois. The Liberal party which ran the country for over a decade not all that long ago (they led a minority government as recently as 2004) is going to go from 77 seats to the low 30s. The Bloc will go from 47 to about 5.

Basically the NDP is taking over Quebec.

The NDP is going to go from the 4th place party to the Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition with over 100 seats (they had 34 in the last Parliament).

This is a pretty major realignment.

The NDP is running some odd candidates that are going to win like Ruth Ellen Brosseau.

The single mother who lives in Gatineau, Que., and works in Ottawa as an assistant manager of a Oliver’s pub at Carleton University in Ottawa is a classic parachute candidate.
Yet there’s no sign that her parachute ever landed in Berthier-Maskinongé, a Quebec riding near Trois-Rivières that is about a three-hour drive from her home.

Local media say she has not granted any interviews and an NDP spokesman could not confirm whether she ever visited the riding.

“She is both excited and nervous,” said NDP spokesman Marc-André Viau, who has spoken with Ms. Brosseau since she returned from a previously scheduled vacation in Las Vegas. Another NDP spokesman had told The Canadian Press that Ms. Brosseau was “a little freaked out” by the sudden media attention.

“She was not ready to do a press conference, but she’s learning,” said Mr. Viau, who said she will need to “perfect” her French-language skills. “She will be learning in the days to come to be more confident to talk to media and to be a public figure. So if she’s elected, we’ll make sure that she’s ready.”

Thanks to James Schmidt for that link.

Basically the NDP just needed names on the ballots in some ridings where they figured they had no chance to win. And now a bunch of these place holders are going to be Members of Parliament. It’s like taking the first 40 names from the English version of the Montreal phone book and throwing them in Parliament.

    Amazing stuff.

  146. Hébert: No common ground left in the Commons
Published On Mon May 2 2011EmailPrint(42) By Chantal Hébert
    National Columnist – TORONTO

Canadians turned their backs on more than a century of centrist elite accommodation on Monday and selected a Parliament where the populist right and the populist left will be going head to head for the first time.

Breaking a seven-year cycle of minority rule, a plurality of voters handed Stephen Harper — the most Conservative prime minister in the country’s modern history — the majority mandate he so fervently sought.

But, by the same token, scores of progressive voters turned away from the Bloc Québécois and the Liberals to make the NDP — Canada’s most left-leaning party — the chief critic of the Conservative government.

In the process, Canadians have traded a dysfunctional minority Parliament for a more polarized one. There is less common ground between the current Conservative team and Jack Layton’s NDP than there has been between any previous federal government and its official opposition.

The next four years have the potential to be transformative in more ways than one. For the first time in two decades, Quebec’s main voice in the House of Commons is not that of a sovereignist party. For the next four years, it will be spoken for by the NDP.

The province now makes up half of Jack Layton’s caucus. Only a handful of BQ members are going back to Parliament and Gilles Duceppe is not one of them. It is far from clear that the Bloc can ever recoup from a body blow of this magnitude.

Harper will be returning to the Commons later this spring in control of the two Houses of Parliament for the first time. Depending on the scope of his ambitions, such free rein with the levers of power could prove more risky for his party than minority rule has turned out to be.

When Brian Mulroney won a second majority mandate in 1988, he and his party looked invincible. Five years later, there was little left of the Progressive Conservatives.

If Harper brings the take-no-prisoners approach that has been his trademark in the past two minority Parliaments to majority rule, his party could face as much scorched earth in four years as Mulroney’s Tories did in 1993.

On Monday, Canadians also sent a powerful signal that they would rather try to build a progressive national alternative on the half-finished foundations of the NDP than trust the Liberals to rebuild on the aging ruins of their past conquests.

Three leaders and three election defeats later, the prospect that their party could go the way of the Liberal-Democrats in Great Britain to a life on the sidelines of the main action has to be of the minds of many lifelong Liberals.

Still the trust placed in the NDP is conditional on performance. And as Quebec demonstrated on Monday, what it gives it can just as abruptly take away. Once the NDP celebrations of Monday’s historic advance have come to an end, the realization will sink in that trading places with the Liberals on the opposition benches is not a cure to a split progressive opposition.

On Monday, this split was one of the key ingredients in the crafting of a Harper majority. As of now and as separate entities, the Liberals and the NPD may be looking at a long and self-defeating war of attrition. Those are questions best addressed after the dust has settled on Monday’s results.

As it happens, the luxury of time is the only gift voters handed in equal shares to every party on Monday.

  151. Bill Clinton Offering Private Dinner for a Good Cause
    By Sharon Cotliar

Ever dream about dining with a president? How about a gourmet four-course meal with former President Bill Clinton? If so, then start bidding.

Beginning Monday on eBay, the former president is auctioning off a private dinner with himself for the highest bidder and three friends, to be held at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The proceeds will benefit the Clinton Foundation.

“I’m looking forward to showing the auction winner some of my favorite exhibits and enjoying dinner with them overlooking the Arkansas River,” Clinton tells PEOPLE. “But more importantly, I look forward to the impact the winning bid will have on the work my Foundation does around the world.”

The opening bid is $25,000, and bidding will continue until noon (PST) on Dec. 2.

“The president is one of most popular political figures in the world,” says eBay spokesperson Amanda Miller. “We anticipate that his eBay charity auction will draw bidders from around the globe.”

The evening with Clinton will include a four-course meal designed by award-winning chef Jacob Peck of Forty Two, the restaurant at the Clinton Presidential Center, which is named for the 42nd president, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the center. The date of the dinner will be determined after the auction.

The money raised through the auction will support the Clinton Foundation’s efforts to end poverty in the U.S. and around the world, to fight childhood obesity, and to provide HIV/AIDS medicines at more affordable prices to those who need them.

WHITE HOUSE CHANGES STORY – Part ?

“The White House backed away Monday evening from key details in its narrative about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, including claims by senior U.S. officials that the Al Qaeda leader had a weapon and may have fired it during a gun battle with U.S. forces.

“Officials also retreated from claims that one of bin Laden’s wives was killed in the raid and that bin Laden was using her as a human shield before she was shot by U.S. forces.

“At a televised White House briefing Monday afternoon, Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan said bin Laden joined in the fight that several residents of the Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound put up against the Navy SEALs during the 40-minute operation.

“’He [bin Laden] was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know,’ Brennan said.

“At a Pentagon briefing earlier in the day, a senior defense official said bin Laden used a woman as a human shield so he could fire shots. “He was firing behind her,” the official said.

“In another background briefing early Monday morning, a senior administration official also said bin Laden put up a fight. ‘He did resist the assault force. And he was killed in a firefight,’ the official said.

“However, during a background, off-camera briefing for television reporters later Monday, a senior White House official said bin Laden was not armed when he was killed, apparently by the U.S. raid team.

“Another White House official familiar with the TV briefing confirmed the change to POLITICO, adding, ‘I’m not aware of him having a weapon.'”

The official, John O. Brennan, said Tuesday on National Public Radio that “it would be premature to rule out the possibility.” He added that “we’re not accusing anybody at this point, but we want to make sure we get to the bottom of this.”

Mr. Brennan’s comments came as Pakistan’s president insisted that his government did not provide assistance to Bin Laden. In an op-ed article in The Washington Post on Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari wrote that his country had “as much reason to despise Al Qaeda as any nation.”

  161. Blagojevich’s Second Federal Corruption Trial Begins (yesterday)

    [snip]

Aaron Goldstein, Mr. Blagojevich’s lawyer, told this new set of jurors that federal authorities had never discovered a pot of money in Mr. Blagojevich’s possession after his arrest in 2008. They had never found a flush bank account. “They found nothing because there is nothing,” Mr. Goldstein said.

“In the end, you will have nothing,” he said.

In many ways, Mr. Blagojevich’s new trial felt like a muted, less circuslike replay of the last one: same courtroom, same judge, same prosecutors, same hair. But this trial — with only a shrunken group of curious residents here to touch Mr. Blagojevich or seek his autograph — is expected to be more challenging for Mr. Blagojevich, not least of all because of the way prosecutors have scaled back and simplified their case.

Prosecutors have dropped several of the most complicated charges — racketeering, in particular — and have reduced their case to 20 counts, including attempted extortion and bribery.

  170. Obama golfs while troops hunt Osama bin Laden‬

Terrorist’s capture is top national-security mission, but not before tee time

    By Emily Miller
    Monday, May 2, 2011

Capturing Sept. 11 terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden has been the nation’s top national-security priority for 10 years, but carrying out the final kill didn’t stop President Obama from playing golf on Sunday. In a tiny concession to his job requirements as commander in chief, Mr. Obama cut his golf game short by nine holes in order to get back to the White House to monitor the final moments as Navy SEALs killed bin Laden in Pakistan.

The plan to capture (or kill) bin Laden at his fancy compound in a suburban Islamabad neighborhood had been in the works for months. Mr. Obama gave final approval for the mission on Friday morning, April 29. The mission was planned for Saturday but was delayed by one day because of weather.

On Sunday, with the small team of Navy SEALs en route to the Pakistan compound, the commander in chief left the White House at 9:42 a.m. and arrived at Andrews Air Force Base golf course at 10:06 a.m. He played golf in the chilly, rainy D.C. weather until he finished the ninth hole. He departed the base at 1:39 p.m.

Mr. Obama has played 66 rounds of golf in the 27 months he has been president. He usually plays 18 holes with a foursome of White House aides, which takes him about four to five hours. The last time the president cut his golf round in half and played only nine holes was Aug. 25, 2010. (He played 12 holes on Dec. 28 at the private Mid Pacific Country Club in Kailua Hawaii because he started late in the afternoon and the sun was setting.)

While the president was playing golf, the highly-trained U.S. special forces were en route to bin Laden’s fortified compound. “The high walls, security features, suburban location and proximity to Islamabad made this an especially dangerous operation,” said a senior administration official after the killing. “The men who executed this mission accepted this risk, practiced to minimize those risks and understood the importance of the target to the national security of the United States.”

When Mr. Obama finished his golf game, he held a national-security briefing after he returned to the White House at 2:04 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., U.S. forces landed helicopters inside bin Laden’s compound, the terrorist resisted the assault force and a firefight ensued. The mass-murderer bin Laden was killed during the short battle by a gunshot to the head. During the high-risk operation, one of the American helicopters failed. The military took bin Laden’s corpse, destroyed their broken helicopter and departed the Islamist safehouse 40 minutes later.

The president made a televised briefing to the nation at 11:35 p.m. to announce that the 9/11 terrorist had, at last, been captured and killed. He concluded his scripted remarks – which he read from a teleprompter – with soaring, spiritual words. “Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” said Mr. Obama. “May God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.”

Talking points aside, the suddenly religious president started his Sunday morning as he usually does: skipping church to go hit the golf links.

    Minutes passed.

“We have a visual on Geronimo,” he said.

A few minutes later: “Geronimo EKIA.”

Enemy Killed In Action. There was silence in the Situation Room.

… I’m crying and cheering! 10 years worth.

  172. I read eslewhere they were listening to the audio in the situation room.. it could mean Panetta talking about what he is seeing. From a technical point of view, I doubt that they were seeing real time video streaming in the situation room but entirely possible they would stream it to CIA HQ. That is my intuition. In an email to The Daily Caller, Gina Channell-Allen, president of the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California, said that her paper “received a call from the White House asking us to take out part of the story because it reflected poorly on the First Lady.”

The story in question was a soft feature about Marine One titled, “Inside Marine One, President Obama’s helicopter,” that ran in the paper on April 20. Pleasanton staffer Amory Gutierrez “didn’t get to ride in ‘Marine One,’” she wrote in her story, “but I did get the VIP tour and took photographs of the otherwise unseen aircraft.”

She also wrote a sentence that the White House thought made FLOTUS look snooty.

“Basically the reporter said that the First Lady didn’t speak to the pilots but acknowledged them by making eye contact,” Allen wrote in her email.

Allen says she “complied” with the White House’s request “because it was not worth making a fuss over.”

She added, “I thought it was interesting, though, that the [White House] was concerned enough about image to contact a little weekly paper in Pleasanton.”

The White House communications office did not return requests for comment.

Allen said she emailed TheDC after reading about the San Francisco Chronicle’s recent spat with the White House communications office.

  184. Obama aides were divided on bin Laden raid

    [snip]

Obama’s advisers were split at the Thursday meeting and the president took a night to think about the decision, the official said.

On Friday morning, just before leaving to visit tornado-hit Alabama, Obama revealed to a small group of aides that he had decided in favor of an immediate raid, the official said.

“It’s a go,” Obama told his advisers, as he ordered the operation that led to killing of the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

  185. (Reuters) – Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was not armed when U.S. special forces stormed his compound in Pakistan but he did resist before he was shot, White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Tuesday.

Carney said bin Laden’s wife “rushed the U.S. assaulter” and was shot in the leg but not killed, contrary to what a White House official said on Monday.

Carney declined to offer further details on bin Laden’s behavior during the raid. Resistance did not require a firearm, he said.

  187. WikiLeaks: Bin Laden’s courier ‘trained 9/11 hijack team’
The courier who led American special forces to Osama bin Laden’s hideout was an al-Qaeda computer expert who helped train the 9/11 hijack team, according to leaked US government files.

For the past two years, American spies had been monitoring the courier, known as Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, after learning his name four years ago, according to US officials.

When al-Kuwaiti made a phone call in 2010, he unknowingly led the Americans to the doorstep of the world’s most wanted terrorist. He was said to have been among those killed alongside Osama bin Laden in yesterday’s dramatic raid.

Secret American military files from Guantanamo Bay, leaked to Wikileaks and seen by The Daily Telegraph, suggest that al-Kuwaiti may have been with bin Laden ever since he disappeared from the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan in 2001.

The file for the Guantanamo detainee, Muhammad Mani al-Qahtani, who was to have been the “20th hijacker” on 9/11, contains a reference to the key US intelligence thread that led directly to bin Laden.

According to the file, al-Kuwaiti provided al-Qahtani with computer training for the mission to attack the US in the summer of 2001. Al-Qahtani was told by the lead 9/11 hijacker, Muhammad Atta, “to make reservations and buy airline tickets to Orlando for five individuals” including himself.

  188. Shadowfax,

They are all lying through theri teeth. I saw the report that BO decided on Friday to approve the raid. Right. One day after the Trump smackdown.

And Eric- you-can’t-try-him-in-military-court- Holder calls the Pakistan raid lawful.

Meanwhile, Bo heads to the GZM to tell people he previously told should allow a mosque on the WTC site that he just blew the brains out of the mastermind who blew up the buildings.

I mean – WTF! I can’t keep up. BO and the WH are spinning so fast they might lose their orbit. Bizarro world for sure. And he who sat for 20 years in a church headed by a man who called the WTC disaster America’s chickens came home to roost now goes to the site to say ….what?

Didn’t he just throw himself under the bus?

  189. Yeah, should have guessed.. there was no video feed of any kind of the raid. It was audio and what they were watching in the situation room was Panetta on screen talking.

The operation – code named ‘Geronimo’ – was watched by the President in real time from the helmet mounted camera of an elite Navy SEAL commando.

It is understood bin Laden, code named ‘Jackpot’, was unarmed but did ‘resist’.

  194. The Real Hero of this mission is not Obama the pencil pusher. It is Stanley McCrystal who made this possible and told the world that Obama is no leader. Larry Johnson give Obama credit however–for not interfering with the military. I suppose there is something to that so long as everyone understands that is damning Obama with faith praise. It would have been better however if Obama had been taken alive and that possibility becomes more plausible as more facts come out about the circumstances of death.
    ———————————————–
“The man who really made this moment possible is General Stan McChrystal. Let me tell you why.

When the insurgency in Iraq started spreading in 2004, Mcchrystal, who commanded JSOC at the time, created a methodology and operational approach for using all source intelligence in real time and sharing it with operators. The system he created succeeded in locating and killing the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Zarqawi, in May 2006. The system used in Iraq was not fully transferred and used in Afghanistan until August of 2008. Once in place in Afghanistan our ability to find and eliminate senior and mid-level cadre of Al Qaeda and the Taliban accelerated dramatically. Although the Obama Administration is pushing the line that we found Bin Laden thanks to water boarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, this is horseshit. That story is disinformation. For starters, any information collected from someone four or five years ago is perishable. The normal goal in an interrogation is to get info that is months old, not years old. A sign of the desperation of the right to peddle such nonsense as fact. We are not putting out how we actually got the info in order to not compromise those sources. In any event, yesterday’s op against Bin Laden was the fulfillment of McChrystal’s vision starting 8 years ago. Congrats Stan.”

  205. From AG’s link: He slept on it and went after Trump before calling it a go.

Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would ‘sleep on it’ before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden’s compound.

Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals – who were not even told who they were preparing to capture – had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.

The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.

  208. Based on what Ulsterman describes Jarrett kept undercutting all other advise and has enormous power over O. Panetta and the military did an end run around Jarrett, kept her in the dark, got Gates and Clinton to back them up, then told Obama this is how it is going down. That is why he is wearing his golf clothes and looks like he was just shoved in a closet.

  209. WOW!

I had given up on Ulsterman since most of the posts now at newsFlavor are by the jerk AKA andanotherthing.

I see Ulstermann has a new blog site – socyberty.

After readng the last few articles, I am convinced Ulsterman is a group blog written by several reporters. the style changes frequently.

    This excerpt is fascinating;

‘I have been told by more than one source that Leon Panetta was directing the operation with both his own CIA operatives, as well as direct contacts with military – both entities were reporting to Panetta only at this point, and not the President of the United States. There was not going to be another delay as had happened 24 hour earlier. The operation was at this time effectively unknown to President Barack Obama or Valerie Jarrett and it remained that way until AFTER it had already been initiated. President Obama was literally pulled from a golf outing and escorted back to the White House to be informed of the mission. Upon his arrival there was a briefing held which included Bill Daley, John Brennan, and a high ranking member of the military. When Obama emerged from the briefing, he was described as looking “very confused and uncertain.” The president was then placed in the situation room where several of the players in this event had already been watching the operation unfold. Another interesting tidbit regarding this is that the Vice President was already “up to speed” on the operation. A source indicated they believe Hillary Clinton had personally made certain the Vice President was made aware of that day’s events before the president was. The now famous photo released shows the particulars of that of that room and its occupants. What that photo does not communicate directly is that the military personnel present in that room during the operation unfolding, deferred to either Hillary Clinton or Robert Gates. The president’s role was minimal, including their acknowledging of his presence in the room.’

  210. Here’s Ulsterman’s post from May 2:

A reluctant American president who was ultimately overridden by senior military and intelligence officials to finally take out terrorist Osama Bin Laden…

Note: This communication came from our long time D.C. Insider and details previous and ongoing conflicts surrounding the decision to assassinate terrorist Osama Bin Laden. This has been reproduced here as originally communicated to us.

    __________

Please get this out ASAP. Want specific people to know we know.

RE Osama Bin Laden. Significant push to take him out months ago. Senior WH staff resisted. This was cause of much strain between HC and Obama/Jarrett. HC and LP were in constant communication over matter – both attempted to convince administration to act. Administration feared failure and resulting negative impact on president. Intel disgusted over politics over national security. Staff resigned/left. Check timeline to corroborate.

Now Intel already leaking to media facts surrounding how info obtained. Namely from enhanced interrogation efforts via GITMO prisoners. Obama administration placed in corner on this. Some media aware of danger to president RE this and attempting protection. Others looking for further investigation. We are pushing for them to follow through and already meeting with some access.

Point of determination made FOR Obama not BY Obama.

The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.

  215. A Senior US Official tells CNN 10 hard drives, 5 computers and more than 100 storage devices which includes discs, DVDs and thumb drives were taken from the compound.

The senior us official also says the White House received 3 sets of photos yesterday. The photos included:

    1. Photos of OBLs body at a hangar after he was brought back to Afghanistan. This is the most recognizable with a clear picture of his face. The picture is gruesome because he has a massive open head wound across both eyes. It’s very bloody and gory.

    2. Photos from the burial at sea on the USS Carl Vinson. Photos of OBL before the shroud was put on and then wrapped in the shroud.

    3. There are photos of the raid itself that include photos of the two dead brothers, one of OBLs dead son (adult adolescent, maybe approx 18 yrs old) and some of the inside scene of the compound.

The official says the challenge is that the picture that includes the most recognizable image of OBLs face – from the hangar in Afghanistan – is so gruesome and mangled its not appropriate for say the front page of the newspaper. On the other hand, this is the one that is most identifiable as him.

  216. I am so angry after reading that Ulsterman post. So how can he even take a victory lap without acknowledging others contribution when he is so woefully inadequate? Don’t answer that. It is really sick.

“By calmly and meticulously overseeing the successful targeting of Osama bin Laden, President Barack Obama just proved himself — vividly, in almost Biblical terms — to be an effective commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States.”
“Calmy and meticulously overseeing” seems to be a resume-padding way of saying “He watched the SEAL team act on closed circuit video.”

Like, “I facilitated urgent inter-organizational communications” (i.e., I routed calls to my boss).

Yes, he was Commander in Chief. He ordered the strike — or acquiesced to it, when Leon Panetta really urged it.

But does anyone, apart from Howard Fineman, believe he was making tactical decisions? That’s what his “meticulously overseeing” is meant to stupidly, and dishonestly, imply– he crafts words which are deliberately vague but can be read to mean quite a bit.

No, Obama wasn’t “meticulously overseeing” this. He was authorizing others to act. Those others “meticulously oversaw” it and then reported back that everything was being “meticulously overseen.”

    Amazing.

But of course they’re going to do this — bear in mind, this is a media which has praised Obama for accomplishing nothing at all. The media even swooned over drawings he drew as a seven year old!

They might as well have gone the full proud-parent route and babbled praise at him for making a nice poopie.

So, of course, when he finally achieves (as in, was a part of) something important — well, all that previous, ahem, restraint they demonstrated goes out the window.

Question: Is the media saying it was possible that Obama might have made the decision to not authorize the raid?

That’s how a decision becomes critical — only if there was the possibility of choosing the other way. If there’s no other possible decision, there’s no real decision.

So — is the media telling me that Obama is the sort of man who might have chosen not to take out Obama?

If so, please elaborate: And tell me why this should be a reason to vote for him rather than against him, which seems the more reasonable response.

Howard Fineman Is Truly An Idiot: I said it back in 2007, in a very funny piece in which I noted his tendency to drool on down to his pants when the name “Barack Obama” was mentioned.

Good to see his trousers are still wet.

Like I said yesterday- they planned to run everyone ragged with many versions of the OBL killing from every news source on the planet with one intention in mind… ASSIGNING CREDIT FOR THE KILL TO OBAMA!
    ______________________________

The real story is here. Who orchestrated the mission, who oversaw the completion of the mission and who got left out of the equation…

    money quote:

“The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.”

  224. Jackpot, not Geronimo…
    ****************

The operation – code named ‘Geronimo’

    ===================

That makes sense. ‘Geronimo’ was the traditional shout of paratroopers jumping out of airplanes.

    ====================

The story is that several years ago they got the nickname of the courier, and spent the next several years finding out his real name and tracking him to his home — where Bin Laden was hiding.

As to which detainee they got the nickname from and under what kind of questioning, reports vary. One report said he had been waterboarded but that was a thing of the past by the time he finally gave the nickname.

  226. I don’t think an effective commander-in-chief would wait 16 hours to determine we should go after Osama Bin Laden after he had finally been located…

    =====================

He was located several months ago.

  227. After readng the last few articles, I am convinced Ulsterman is a group blog written by several reporters. the style changes frequently.

    ====================

Whoever heard of such a thing! Heavens to Betsy!

  228. The code name for the mission was “Jackpot.”

The code name for the Primary target was “Geronimo.”

most likely for the last of the great Apache Chiefs from the 19th century, who fought the US and Mexico overrunning Apache tribal land.

  229. The Navy Seals built a replica of OBL’s compound. They did training exercises on the model ensuring their own success when they were ready for the real assault they would take it to completion as they planned.

  230. Unbelievable.. let us see how Pakistan gets out of this,

Details of the comfortable family life Osama Bin Laden enjoyed under the noses of the Pakistani security services emerged last night.

Neighbours’ children were invited into the terror mastermind’s hideout to play with pet rabbits, while his children attended a nearby school.

Even the name of the million-dollar house was a huge clue – it was called ‘Waziristan Mansion’, after the tribal area of mountainous Pakistan where Bin Laden fled in the wake of the 9/11 outrage.

Until he was finally hunted down and killed by U.S. special forces on Sunday, the world’s most wanted man lived in the garrison city of Abbottabad with his various wives for an incredible six years.

Further embarrassment followed yesterday when the BBC interviewed a 12-year-old boy who said he used to visit the building where Bin Laden had died and had met the Al Qaeda leader’s family.

‘I used to go to their house. He had two wives, one spoke Arabic, and the other one spoke Urdu. They had three children, a girl and two boys. They gave me two rabbits. They had installed a camera at the outer gate so they could see people before they entered the house,’ Zarar Ahmed said.

It also emerged today that other local children thought something may be amiss – and regularly made a profit from the presence of the terrorist mastermind.

‘If a football went into bin Laden’s compound the children would not be allowed to get it,’ said local ice cream vendor Tanvir Ahmed.

‘They were given money instead; 100-150 rupees ($2-$3) per ball.’

If Ulsterman can be believed, we can thank Leon Panetta and the Pentagon with Hillary’s help with getting bin Laden.

And thank you, Mormaer for posting the link for the real story and some sense of closure to the fanfare whipped up by OB supporters for the clayfooted hero.

Oh yes. You are so sophisticated. So worldly that you believe the media spin about the cheap dime-storm trash story put out by the WH. You believe hook line and sinker that everything contained in the WH report could have actually happened within the span of ten hours.

Keep your nasty comments to yourself and when you see my posts, just scroll by, as I usually do with yours.

Finally, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed himself admitted that he knew the courier. Held at Guantanamo Bay, he had been waterboarded 183 times without identifiying Ahmed.
It was only later under conventional interrogation techniques that he admitted he knew him – though he still did not surrender a full name or where the courier could be found.

  234. http://vtdigger.org/2011/04/27/vt-senate-gives-final-nod-to-universal-health-care-bill-in-21-9-vote/

In a historic vote on Tuesday, the Vermont Legislature created the enabling legislation for a first-in-the-nation universal health care system. The state Senate approved the visionary plan for a single-payer system in a 21-9 vote after four hours of debate. The split was largely along party lines.

Gov. Peter Shumlin, a Democrat, campaigned on a promise to create a single-payer system in Vermont that would contain health care costs and give all of the state’s residents universal access to medical care.

    [….]

Instead of continuing to use an insurance model for covering the cost of care, the bill moves the state toward an integrated payment system that would be controlled by a quasi judicial board and administered by a third party entity. The system would be funded through a broad-based tax.

    [….]

Whether the federal government will give Vermont a waiver to adopt a universal health care system in 2014 is an open question.

  235. While driving and listening to talk radio I heard a fascinating theory. Myabe the mission was to kill OBL to silence him about something?

Just throwing it out there because I know in my gut there is no way the WH version of the kill can be true. Notice how the first reports had OBL using a woman as a human shield – no doubt to appeal to western mores – and the woman was killed.

It’s clear Muslims couldn’t give a d@mn what happens to women so I’m sure OBL would not have had a problem sacrificing one of the herd.

Now, the woman is said to have been wounded in the leg.

First OBL was armed, now he had no weapons. The sh!t is so thick it’s clogging WH brain cells as they desperately try to carve a believable account.

But they’re digging themselves in too deep. I think this is going to backfire on Mighty Mouth.

  236. From Physorg re solar power:

Their system, described in a paper published online in the journal Nature Materials on May 1, produces power with an efficiency roughly eight times higher than ever previously reported for a solar thermoelectric device — one that produces electricity from solar heat. It does so by generating and harnessing a temperature difference of about 200 degrees Celsius between the interior of the device and the ambient air.
    [….]
“With the use of other or new thermoelectric materials that can operate at a higher temperature,” Shi adds, “the efficiency may be improved further to be competitive with that for state-of-the-art amorphous silicon solar cells. This can potentially provide a different approach to realizing the $1-per-watt goal for solar-electricity conversion.”

  237. well, mansions in Pakistan don’t look like mansions here. By their standards, it is an impressive residential building.

  238. pm317
Mansion was just another part of the story that is now slowly unraveling. They have been saying that he lived in luxury in this mansion while his ground troops live in caves, etc. Why they always have to make up a ‘story’ instead of just reporting facts has always puzzled me.

  239. The media always talks of Bin’s compound as a mansion, 8 times larger than other homes.

Maybe I need to get some strong glasses, this place looks like a big, cement and brick dump.

    ===================

The aerial photos do show it much larger than the surrounding buildings. To compare its condition, we’d need pictures of the other buildings. The outside of most third world homes can look very bad compared to ours, especially in dry areas. In style and condition, it doesn’t look too different from the ‘settlements’ we often see in the news, or shots of Baghdad, etc. Some such homes can be very luxorious inside.

The occupants named it Waziri(sp?) Mansion.

I suppose if it included a mock-up of a cave for Bin Laden to film his videos in, we’d have heard by now.

If true, then this has got to be the most bizarre presidency in the history of America. What you have is a potus who has the mind and decision-making capabilities of a 5 year old. You also have a single woman, Jarrett, who thinks she walks on water.

This whole scenario just gobsmacks me.

  242. Panetta is a former Clinton employee- If we get rid of Holder, a new prosecutor would be just the thing requesting a SP be appointed to investigate the anomalies in BO’s bc.. and get this show on the road.

I doubt the House will go along with it- unless hard evidence is provided forcing their hand.

  243. Clinton talks with Israeli, Palestinian leaders

    04 May 2011

Washington. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke separately Tuesday to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Premier Salam Fayyad about Palestinian moves to form a unity government, a US spokesman said, AFP reported.
The Fatah faction, which heads the US-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and its Islamist Hamas rival, which runs the Gaza Strip, signed a reconciliation deal in Cairo on Tuesday, which Israel called a blow to peace.

The accord calls for a government of independent technocrats who are to pave the way for presidential and parliamentary elections within a year.

“I can confirm that (Clinton) did speak with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister Fayyad,” according to Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman. “They did, indeed, discuss Palestinian reconciliation and related developments,” he said.
He repeated that a new Palestinian government emerging from the deal would have to accept the principles set down by the Quartet of the United States, United Nations, European Union and Russia, in a so-called roadmap to peace.

Those three principles are: renouncing violence, accepting past agreements, and recognizing Israel’s right to exist, he said.
He said he believed that Clinton “talked a little bit about the significance of that assistance package” to the Palestinians in her talks with the Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
But a State Department official told reporters on the condition of anonymity that Clinton did not threaten to cut off the aid which amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars to build the institutions needed for a future state.

The deal has already prompted US lawmakers to warn the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority it risks losing US aid.

Thats right- that is the real story…

a shadow, hidden from the (fool hardy) shadow government… Jarrett and the Chicago Gang..

  245. I knew it! Capturing Osama was out of the question because the nitwits Obama and his AG Holder could not have handled such a big challenge in spite of their prevarication to their lefty base and with 2012 round the corner it was a kill mission from the get go. What incompetent hypocrites!

Wow, OkieAtty, you must have seen this. from March 2010:

WASHINGTON – Osama Bin Laden will be brought to justice in a body bag, not a court of law, a fired-up Attorney General Eric Holder told lawmakers Tuesday.

Holder, fed up with Republicans who call him soft on terrorists, startled lawmakers by seeking to debunk that image, in vivid terms.

“The reality is that we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama Bin Laden – he will never appear in an American courtroom,” the nation’s chief enforcement officer told a stunned House hearing.

GOP congressmen tried to pummel the nation’s top law enforcement official over giving terrorists the same constitutional rights in civilian courts as American defendants, such as the now-unlikely lower Manhattan trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed.

Holder said terrorists are treated like the murderers they are in federal courts – or, more specifically, “like Charles Manson.”

When Rep. John Culberson (R-Tex.) said that if Bin Laden himself were arrested, it would be absurd to give him the same due process afforded Manson, Holder erupted.

Charges he coddles terrorists get his “blood boiling,” the attorney general conceded. He followed with a Bin Laden prediction that was reminiscent of ex-President George W. Bush’s “dead or alive” misfire eight years ago about nailing the Al Qaeda leader.

Holder repeated – slowly – to the Texas congressman that “the possibility simply does not exist” that Bin Laden will ever be arraigned in any court.

Culberson sputtered that military tribunals are better because they afford Al Qaeda goons less constitutional protections than civilian courts.

“They’re not put up against a wall and shot,” Holder barked back.

As for Bin Laden’s ultimate fate, he referred to efforts to kill the Al Qaeda leader in his Pakistan lair, and to the testimony of captured bodyguards that they had orders to kill Bin Laden with a bullet or bomb belt if his pursuers ever got close.

“The possibility of capturing him alive is infinitesimal – he will be killed by us or he will be killed by his own people,” Holder said.

I should have included backdrop info on the shirts. Bloomburg financial TV report cited them as support that the OBL killing bring an uptick to the economy. It was one of those Jane King moments. I don’t see how should could have reported that with a straight face, but she did.
