Fear And Empathy – Barack Obama’s Arizona Publicity Stunt Reichstag Fire

There is a concerted attempt by Barack Obama and his Hopium Guzzling Big Blog Boy allies to politically prop up Barack Obama using 6 corpses from Arizona. As we wrote previously this ploy is bound to fail.

As part of the White House organized attempt to help Obama finally appear presidential, the Obama thugs are smearing Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement. This ploy too is bound to fail.

Let’s quickly look at the politically motivated blame assigned to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement. Michelle Malkin a conservative/Republican yesterday highlighted a cartoon of Sarah Palin having her teeth knocked out of her mouth with a gruesome punch to her face. The cartoon linked to by Malkin was published on the pro-Hillary website run by Not Your Sweetie. In a comment we linked to a more recent Not Your Sweetie article published post Arizona murders.

Michelle Malkin has a comprehensive list of other hate attacks from our once brethren on the left before they took a trip to the funny farm. More interesting and missed by Malkin is a duo of articles from PUMA PAC. In Sarah Palin is Waaay SCARIER and DANGEROUSER than Jared Loughner we are provided excerpts from an article via Violet Socks. This quote should make Sarah Palin and her admirers hesitate and reject any attack on Hillary Clinton:

‘“It’s funny, isn’t it? Men run the world, own almost everything in it, hold almost every position of power, and yet these two women [Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton] —each the first in her party to become a serious contender for presidential office—are somehow responsible for everything bad. Somehow they’re in charge, somehow they’re the worst, somehow they are the fount of evil.

Sarah Palin in her latest book unfairly, in an uninformed manner, and very stupidly attacked Hillary. Because of that stupid attack by Sarah Palin we are hesitant to waste any further space defending her – but defend her in this instance we must. Our generosity will not be endless if Sarah Palin persists in failing to understand that the same tactics and hatred directed at her were smelted and honed in the anti-Hillary pits of Hopium dens. But we digress.

In the January 9 article called “The Good Guys?” PUMA PAC cites an article by Vast Left at Corrente. What Vast Left did was perform a search for the terms Sarah Palin and the word C*nt. The results of that search demonstrate that our brothers and sisters of the left are not “The Good Guys”. When Republicans/conservatives published sexist and misogynist crap such as this it has always been considered to be proof of them as mouth breathing neanderthals. The current band of Obama Dimocrats on the left are much worse than the worse Republicans/conservatives. Our leftist brethren are prideful of their good educations and high principles but they are now Obama Dimocrats and the lowest of the low.

These Obama Dimocrats exhausted themselves for months and years attacking Blue Dog Democrats and wishing them political (and occasionally physical) death (DailyKooks put a “bulls-eye” on Gabrielle Giffords back in 2008). Now they are besides themselves bemoaning the shooting of a Blue Dog Democrat. Even worse, these Obama Dimocrat dolts are praising the wisdom of Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. Wait until they learn a bit about the good Sheriff:

“In 1981, Dupnik sent a message to all residents: Arm yourselves. Police couldn’t adequately protect the populace, he said, because they didn’t have sufficient manpower: “Not only are things not good, they are going to get worse. For those who are so inclined, it’s time to start protecting yourselves.” [snip]

In 2007, Dupnik raised the hackles of immigration activists when he proposed to have federal agents work alongside his own border crimes unit. [snip]

Dupnik provoked the Hispanic community again in April 2009 by suggesting that public schools should check students’ immigration status when they enroll, even though the Supreme Court ruled in 1982 that denying enrollment to the children of illegal immigrants is unconstitutional. “It’s wrong for the taxpayers in this country to spend the millions and millions and millions of dollars that we do catering to illegals,” Dupnik said, including providing free education to their children.”

After certain “profiling” provisions were removed from S.B. 1070 the Sheriff supported the Arizona law against illegal immigration. But as with Barack Obama the clods who now worship the Sheriff don’t know much about him. Today, in an editorial the Arizona Republic tells the Sheriff to shut up:

“. . . enough. Enough attacks, sheriff. Enough vitriol. It is well past time for the sheriff of Pima County to get a grip on his emotions and remember his duty.

With each passing hour, we learn more about the 22-year-old suspect. And everything we learn adds to the profile of a deeply troubled young man detached from reality. There is nothing to date that suggests any partisan motivation for his crimes, whether right-wing or left.”

* * * * * *

Speaking of clods, let’s look at why Barack Obama’s publicity stunt tomorrow is doomed to failure. Let’s start with this quote from an Obama “advisor” which is found in Obama lover Jonathan Alter’s book The Promise:

“the most unsentimental man I’ve ever met.”

Regular readers of Big Pink will not be surprised. After all, as Michelle said, he is the boy “raised by wolves”. At the White House the deluded plotters want to portray the opportunistic schemer as some sort of “feel your pain” Bill Clinton. This is a risible assumption.

Bill Clinton was a genuine “feel your pain” type of guy. He still is. Bill Clinton grew up in a family that required him to be a conciliator and an empathetic figure. His mom had many “gentlemen friends” for a while and eventually married an abusive man. Bill Clinton genuinely loved his mom and dealt with his life situation by at once being a caring man and a sexual rogue. These are contradictory attributes but humans are nothing if not loaded with contradictions.

Barack Obama on the other hand had a mom who trolled the world looking for men of color and dumped little Barry on his grandparents. Once little Barry finally met “daddy” his pop saw enough and walked away, again. Barry became Barack and everything became about race. Barack dealt with his life situation by becoming a back slapping flim-flam man who utilized white gentry guilt and a “blank slate” personality/principles to advance himself.

But those obvious differences between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama escape people like Jonathan Alter who accept wholesale the fictions in Obama’s autobiographies. Jonathan Alter also summarizes what many Obama Dimocrats have been hoping for – a Bill Clinton style Oklahoma bombing moment. That the Oklahoma City bombing by Timothy McVeigh was a political and ideological bombing escapes Alter. That Timothy McVeigh acknowledged his political motivations and connections also escapes Alter. Alter spills the White House/Obama Dimocrats’ beans:

“The shootings and the resulting debate over the climate of incivility play to his strengths as a calm and rational leader. Just as Bill Clinton’s response to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings helped him recover from his defeat in the 1994 midterms, so this episode may help Obama change—at least in the short term–the trajectory of American politics.

Clinton did more than just speak movingly after Oklahoma City and pull the country together as griever-in-chief. He was able to use the event to discredit the militia movement and tamp down hate speech on talk radio enough that it wasn’t much of a factor in his 1996 reelection. The Oklahoma City bombings were later seen by historians and Clinton-era officials as the turning point in his political comeback. [snip]

You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” Rahm Emanuel famously said in 2008. The same goes for a shooting spree that gravely wounds a beloved congresswoman. Congress won’t enact gun control, as it did in the wake of the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, but perhaps something positive can come from this.

The State of the Union will almost certainly begin with heart-wrenching symbolism. Ever since Ronald Reagan put a “citizen hero,” Lenny Skutnik, in the balcony of the House chamber after he rescued passengers from the wreck of an Air Florida jet that crashed in the freezing Potomac River in 1982, American presidents have all used their State of the Unions speeches to honor their own “Skutniks,” as they’ve come to be called in Washington. This year will be no different. At least one or two people connected to the horrific incident (The 20-year-old office intern who heroically applied triage to Gabrielle Giffords? A relative of slain federal judge John Roll?) will undoubtedly sit with Michelle Obama at the speech. And it’s hard to imagine that the poignant birth date of 9-year-old Christina Taylor Greene, September 11, 2001, will escape mention.”

“Angels and Ministers of Grace defend us” – from another Obama speech. Obama’s best moment ever came yesterday when for 1 single solitary minute he shut up. What a blessed minute. Now Alter wants to have innocent Americans punished with more verbiage from the mouth of Barack Obama. Please no, dear God! Will it be considered biological terrorism if we pray for Obama to be struck with chronic laryngitis?

Mark Penn, did Obama and Obama Dimocrats no favors when he knowingly laid out the strategy (knowing full well Barack Obama has no emotional attachment to anyone but himself) last year thereby “pissing in the well”:

Words and more words are not going to convince Americans that Jared LONER is anything but a nutjob. One picture is worth all the Obama words. The picture we refer to is the one of a smirking, crazy-eyed Jared LONER. How can you argue against that picture and pretend that this was not one of the many nuts that inhabit this billion-plus people planet? Most Americans are sane and do not believe that Jared LONER is anything but a nut.

At the frenzy called The View, the verdict is “nutjob”:

No mention from The View of the bulls-eyes by the DailyKooks or the bulls-eyes on “targeting” maps by Obama Dimocrats. But at least there is some logic on Sarah Palin. As Jack Shafer at liberal Slate magazine points out this type of language and graphics is normal in political campaigns:

“For as long as I’ve been alive, crosshairs and bull’s-eyes have been an accepted part of the graphical lexicon when it comes to political debates. Such “inflammatory” words as targeting, attacking, destroying, blasting, crushing, burying, knee-capping, and others have similarly guided political thought and action. Not once have the use of these images or words tempted me or anybody else I know to kill. I’ve listened to, read—and even written!—vicious attacks on government without reaching for my gun. I’ve even gotten angry, for goodness’ sake, without coming close to assassinating a politician or a judge.

From what I can tell, I’m not an outlier. Only the tiniest handful of people—most of whom are already behind bars, in psychiatric institutions, or on psycho-meds—can be driven to kill by political whispers or shouts. Asking us to forever hold our tongues lest we awake their deeper demons infantilizes and neuters us and makes politicians no safer.”

There are laws already which prevent calling for the assassination of political figures aren’t there?

The public sees the photo of Jared LONER and knows this is a nut not a political act.

“Almost 60 percent of the public believes that heated political rhetoric has nothing to do with an Arizona shooting spree that gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) and killed a federal judge.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents in a new CBS News poll said rhetoric is unrelated to the shooting, while 32 percent said they believe the two are connected…

… Republicans who responded to the poll do not believe the shooting was related to rhetoric at a greater rate than Democrats. Sixty-nine percent of Republicans said rhetoric was not a factor, compared to 19 percent who said it was connected.

A narrow plurality of Democrats believe there is no relationship — 49 percent to 42. Fifty-six percent of independents believe rhetoric is unrelated to the shooting, and 33 percent think it was.”

Into this common sense reaction the White House sends wolf-boy Barack Obama to further make a fool of himself and convince Americans (with flaccid words written by misogynist Favreau and splayed on a TelePromTer) that Jared LONER is not a nut but somehow a product of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. To believe this nonsense one must ignore the mounting evidence that LONER targeted Gabrielle Giffords back in 2007.

It’s not Oklahoma City but the Reichstag Fire. The goal is to create a crisis event for political purpose. In 1995 Bill Clinton spoke to the nation about a politically motivated bombing that destroyed a federal courthouse and killed many. Bill Clinton profited politically from the situation because he was able to emotionally connect with the American people and present the evidence that the bombing was indeed a political act that had to be repudiated.

In Arizona the murderous work was the product of a LONER nutjob who began to fulminate against the congresswomen in 2007 and it appears that totally by happenstance killed a Republican federal district court judge. In Arizona the attempt by Obama Dimocrats is to manufacture a motive and utilize the murders of innocents by a deranged man to political purpose.

In the Arizona shootings the only political motivation is coming from Obama Dimocrats, Obama loving Big Blog Boys and Big Media.

Barack Obama will go to Arizona to exploit the murder of innocents and try to prop up his flailing administration. For a degree of decency and worthwhile discourse we have to go to a professional comedian – Jon Stewart isn’t buying from the Obama propaganda ministry:

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c
Arizona Shootings Reaction
www.thedailyshow.com
Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor & Satire Blog</a> The Daily Show on Facebook

The father of the murdered 9 year old girl isn’t buying:

The father of the murdered 9 year old girl is a living refutation of Barack Obama and those who want to turn this into politics not nubjobbery:

“If you want to see heartbreaking grace and tremendous courage in the face of unspeakable tragedy, you don’t want to miss this segment from the Today show this morning with John Green, the father of the 9-year-old victim of the shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Christina Green was born on 9/11 and died in another act of nationally-covered violence, which her father says are “bookends” to her joyful life. Instead of lashing out, which would be entirely understandable for a heartbroken father, John instead offers us an amazing example of poise and perspective that puts many to shame:

Stewart is right that those murdered led interesting and impressive lives which ended amidst much heroism. Bill Maher by contrast soiled the political discourse by drawing a connection between Jared LONER and Glenn Beck and ascribing all sorts of political motivations to LONER. That’s as nutty as the Westboro publicity hounds going to bark at the funerals.

We recall how in 2008 Hillary Clinton was attacked by Barack Obama goons because she would not get out of the political contest – and in one interview discussed the vagaries of elections and politics and dropped in a reference to the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968. Obama thugs immediately declared that Hillary Clinton was calling for the assassination of Barack Obama and demanded that she get out of the race. That episode was a rehearsal for this latest Obama goon attack on Sarah Palin.

We recall the appropriate outrage by Democrats when it appeared the George W. Bush White House was trying to shut down political discourse and debate to demonize opponents (“watch what you say”). We recall when we Democrats attacked the free speech throttling Patriot Act, not passed it without discussion.

That was then. Now many of those that defended free speech and deplored any attempt to start Reichstag fires have abandoned our principled positions and hold the matches and act like political arsonists. The Obama Dimocrats shouting “racist FIRE” are the ones holding the torches.

Failure alone is not enough. It needs to backfire.

  2. We don’t want to be too bleeding heart about this, but Jared Loughner might have suffered traumatic brain injury as a child:

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/jared-lee-loughner-family-portrait-isolation/story?id=12587114

“Much of the money accused Tucson shooter Jared Loughner and his family had apparently came from a settlement with his elementary school after Loughner injured himself playing on the monkey bars as a young boy, a family friend said.

According to one of Loughner’s close friends, Zachary Osler, Loughner told him his family used the settlement money to sustain their lifestyle. The amount of the settlement for the injuries, which included broken bones, wasn’t available.

Osler said that Loughner gradually became a “self-induced monster,” dabbling in cocaine before graduating to psychedelic drugs.

Loughner went from a stable high school student to a violent, self-medicated “monster” after his girlfriend dumped him during his junior year of high school, the friend said.

Osler said that Loughner, who would walk around with his jaw and fist clenched, spent “excessive amounts of money” on drugs.

There was no political motive in this, [Jared] was just angry at the world,” he said.

Loughner ended his friendship with Osler through a text message two years ago, writing to him, “I don’t want to be friends with you anymore.”

All on the subject of civility.

…it is incumbent on all Americans to create an atmosphere of civility and respect in which political discourse can flow freely, without fear of violent confrontation.

    – Former Representative Paul Kanjorski (D, PA), January 11, 2011.

“That [current Florida Republican Governor Rick] Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida,” Mr. Kanjorski said. “Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him [*] and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him.”

    – Former Representative Paul Kanjorski (D, PA), October 23, 2010. (Via Mark Hemingway)

“I am sorry that I called for the literal killing of Governor Scott – and that I wrote an op-ed calling for civility without ever once admitting that by my own moral pretensions I was one of the worst offenders of my party, let alone the larger political scene. I am so, so sorry.”

    – Former Representative Paul Kanjorski (D, PA), don’t hold your breath waiting for him to say that.

  5. The New Left understands what Soros understands, what Goebbels understood, what Lenin understood, and what Napoleon himself knew which is that the pen is mightier than the sword, and whoever controls the pen, in this case the press, controls what society thinks and what society does. That is why the New Left have infiltrated big media. As long as they control to media they control the dialogue and even if the truth comes out later, what the audience heard first and the associations they make control the public mind. The only answer is to get people to stop listening to big media. Otherwise the cause is hopeless. They should see them for what they are–part of the left wing hate machine. And now we should regard with equal suspicion, their mawkish belated attempts to say we went too far. Trust me the damage is done. They extend the olive branch now only to consolidate their gains. Next you will see them manipulate the polls. Until people come to terms with who and what they are dealing with, they will get played like small town rubes at a patent medicine show.

    That’s two questions.

#1 may be deep and difficult, endangering them (and endangering those conveniently mis-labeled ‘mentally ill’)

#2 is simpler. Begin by enforcing the laws already existing requiring background checks. If prior complaints against Loughner had been properly handled, he would never have passed his background check, thus not have got the gun. (See Cholla Jumps etc)

    admin,
    Another hit-it-out-of-the-park post.

But that clip of Penn made my stomach churn and my ears hurt. What a whiny, snotty, castrati-voiced POS he is. I still blame him for HRC losing to squat.

  8. admin — you need to be nominated to the pultizer prize for writing. Article captured exactly what everyone I know have been feeling.

Waffles is going to milk this, not for America, but for Waffles alone. I was planning to watch tommorow, but now that I know he is using himself as the example, I don’t need to hear another political speech lecturing America.

One thing I admired about Bush, and there weren’t many, I felt he was genuine, same with Bill Clinton, when the country hurt, they both hurt and I had no doubt in my mind they felt the pain America was feeling.

Why a speech at a memorial? no doubt someone at News-Weak told him this would score points. It would have best to just attend the memorial, and that’s it. But oh no, we need more speecifying.

  9. I would have advised Obama not to go to the funeral tomorrow. Unless he speaks to how he is going to help families struggling with mental illness, anything else coming from him is useless and not productive. If he goes anywhere near ‘can’t we all get along’ theme, he is toast.

  10. while it makes sense that he called and asked if they needed any additional resources, he didn’t need to call THIS Sheriff who has been doing nothing but stirring up people all over the TV channels and not ask him to use caution??

Admin — Waffles calls the renegade Sheriff to THANK HIM!

The Sheriff has been Obama’s mouthpiece from the first minutes after the shooting. He’s Obama’s point man in Arizona.

The Sheriff had 2 mos to remove Lauthner’s gun from his possession. He knew Laughtner was a nut job, yet he did nothing. Dupnik needs to be called to task, unless the FBI is part and parcel of the coverup as well and they will ignore the signs staring them in their faces.

  12. Tim,

I agree. It is disgusting. Reminds me of him calling Vick’s team, of standing by Gates, of protecting Hassan.

    Only 1000 x worse.

Gotta agree with this remark too:

  20. My wife, a very huge Hillary supporter, has read Sarah’s second book, thought it was very good, she too did not like what Sarah said about Hillary, but then we both reread it a couple of times, and it seems she [Sarah] was more trying to show how she had thought about liberal women as a community, but then realised while there are items she [Sarah] disagrees with them on, there is also a lot of common ground. Neither of us took it as a direct insult to Hillary, but rather her perceptions/misperceptions of women who are on the other side of the political spectrum.

My wife or I did not take it as an attack on Hillary. From what I have read on Conservatives4Palin dot com, there was a past post on this and Hillary supports of Sarah who post on that site were annoyed and mad about this item in the second book, and there was a very interesting, and almost hashing out of the agreements/disagreements between how each side views certain issues and then they came to a consensus about what Sarah meant, and it made sense to me as a reader of that blog.
I will try and find that post, but it was a while back.

  21. That sheriff knew about this guy from 2005. I think he is protesting too much because he is afraid it will come back to him.

  22. Thank you for that information about the Sheriff knowing beforehand, I will search online for it. I had not heard that story yet.

Well, better get some other work done in the meantime. I might go and watch Hillary’s latest inteview, the stamina that the lady has knows no bounds. She is indeed the “workhorse” as she called herself. Waffles is of course the “showhorse”. LOL.

Glock Pistol Sales Surge in Aftermath of Arizona Shootings

After a Glock-wielding gunman killed six people at a Tucson shopping center on Jan. 8, Greg Wolff, the owner of two Arizona gun shops, told his manager to get ready for a stampede of new customers.

Wolff was right. Instead of hurting sales, the massacre had the $499 semi-automatic pistols — popular with police, sport shooters and gangsters — flying out the doors of his Glockmeister stores in Mesa and Phoenix.

“We’re at double our volume over what we usually do,” Wolff said two days after the shooting spree that also left 14 wounded, including Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who remains in critical condition.

A national debate over weaknesses in state and federal gun laws stirred by the shooting has stoked fears among gun buyers that stiffer restrictions may be coming from Congress, gun dealers say. The result is that a deadly demonstration of the weapon’s effectiveness has also fired up sales of handguns in Arizona and other states, according to federal law enforcement data.

“When something like this happens people get worried that the government is going to ban stuff,” Wolff said.

Oh yeah, Dupnik’s a help, all right.

Thus underscoring a tactic of Obama’s which is all too well-known by now: Speaking loftily and assuming the false image as above petty politics while encouraging his supporters to stick the knife into every warm body around.

Did Obama tell Dupnik to stop with the stupid claims about Sarah Palin being directly responsible for this? Apparently not; if Dupnik’s behavior is any indicator, Obama encouraged it, either explicitly or tacitly– I wasn’t watching the first segment, but JackStraw tells me Dupnik was back on Hardball yet again (he gets his mail delivered there now) to assert, more directly than ever, that Sarah Palin is directly responsible for the shooting.

Thanks, Sheriff Dupnik! You’re doing a great job healing the community. And by community, I mean dispirited Democratic caucus and their media spirit squad.”

Apparently Loughner would have failed his background check for gun purchase, if the various people who had complained about his condition in the past had been listened to (or if they had complained more persistently).

There may be more material out by now, as the issue is working its way up the food chain.

Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff’s Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system.

  29. even the ever so cynical O cheerleader, Johnathan Atler, is vehemently suggesting his dream man not bring his teleprompter tomorrow…not of course because O needs it, but “just better in this venue, say Alter, that he not bring O’s companion, his teleprompter to the memorial service” (that is…while O is trying to exploit the situation as they believe Bill Clinton did” and then Bill’s numbers went up…Ha! pathetic!)

…notice how bill and hillary clinton are still right there close to the service for the right and the left to be dragged into any controversay and blamed in some way…

seems no one has to take any responsibility these days as long as Bill, Hill and Palin exist…they can always use them for the guilt dump…

nonstop since this happened. The media has kept 24-7 surveillance on their home and they are afraid to come out…asked a neighbor to collect their mail for them and of course the media interviewed the neighbor. All he would say is that they have always been loners.

  31. Tim:

Here is an excerpt about Sheriff Dupnik and how he proceeds with the Obamacrat agenda to demonize invertly Palin and his ignoring Loughners continuing deteriorating mental state.

“The world’s eyes, once again, focused on Arizona for the worst of reasons. And Dupnik stood before the cameras interpreting the shootings as politically motivated, despite an increasing weight of evidence depicting the shooting suspect, Jared Loughner, as a mentally ill young man who rambled incoherently about pervasive bad grammar and other apolitical obsessions. Even Dupnik has observed that Loughner had made death threats against others and that they had been investigated by police.

Still, Dupnik used the opportunities to blame Arizona’s lax, new gun laws and, again, the angry “rhetoric” of talk radio. The shootings were spurred, he suggested, by “the rhetoric about hatred, about mistrust of government, about paranoia of how government operates.”

Dupnik took up his cause again on Monday. And, in response, we have to say at last . . .

There is nothing to date that suggests any partisan motivation for his crimes, whether right-wing or left.

Dupnik needs to recall that he is elected to be a lawman. With each additional comment, the Democratic sheriff of Pima County is revealing his agenda as partisan, and, as such, every bit as recklessly antagonistic as the talk-show hosts and politicians he chooses to decry.”

  34. So according to what this Sheriff is doing, a sheriffs job in Arizona, consists of sitting his fat ass all day, mouthing off to reporters and any other person who’ll listen, rather than actually going out into the community he’s elected for and catching criminals or actually catching mental people with guns before they shoot up supermarkets.

  35. The result is that a deadly demonstration of the weapon’s effectiveness has also fired up sales of handguns in Arizona and other states, according to federal law enforcement data.

“When something like this happens people get worried that the government is going to ban stuff,” Wolff said.

Ya know, not everyone buying a gun is responsible and vetted. A few nuts like Loner will pick up a gun to satisfy their paranoia.

    ============================

I’m too lazy to check, but a REAL journalist would have interviewed the clerk who sold Loughner his gun and found out exactly how and why the current law didn’t catch Loughner as non-qualifying.

  37. Law passed to ban funeral picketing after Tucson shootings

Protesting near funerals will be illegal in Arizona immediately after Gov. Brewer signs a bill passed by the state legislature Tuesday.

Lawmakers approved emergency legislation to head off picketing of the funeral of the nine-year-old girl gunned down in the attempt on the life of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

“We need to protect our grieving families from having to go through the pain of being exposed to protesters,” said Steve Farley, D-28, the House minority leader.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., said Monday it plans to picket the funeral of Christina Taylor Green on Thursday because “God sent the shooter to deal with idolatrous America.”

    ……………..

I dont like banning free speech but i’m willing to let this individual one slide because they are such a hideous piece of trash.

  38. Happy birthday moononpluto.

Only you could come upo with a sentence like this.

“Everytime i see Obama, he just reminds me of a taxi flying down 5th avenue with the doors wide open.”

But I hope you do something more pleasant than listneing to squat on yur special day. 😉

  39. About the despicable church protest, I read on hillbuzz that the Patriot Riders, the motorcyclists who carry flags and disrupt protests at military funerals, are making an exception in their rules and will attend the funeral of the poor little angel Christina, tomorrow.

  40. “This is a very difficult time for us,” said the statement, issued Tuesday afternoon by Randy and Amy Loughner. “We ask the media to respect our privacy. There are no words that can possibly express how we feel. We wish that there were, so we could make you feel better. We don’t understand why this happened. It may not make any difference, but we wish that we could change the heinous events of Saturday. We care very deeply about the victims and their families. We are so sorry for their loss.”

The statement came as friends of Jared Loughner said Tuesday that his behavior had become increasingly erratic over the last year, underscored by his fear that two of his closest friends were planning to kill him, one of those friends said Tuesday. “He did not have many friends,” said Zane Gutierrez, 21, who met Mr. Loughner in high school. “We stopped talking to him in March of 2010. He started getting weird.”

Mr. Loughner has been charged with opening fire at a Tucson supermarket on Saturday as Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat of Arizona, was meeting constituents. Six people were killed in the shooting and 14 were injured, including Ms. Giffords, the apparent main target of the attack.

Mr. Gutierrez’s descriptions of Mr. Loughner’s behavior provide new insight into his mental state.

Mr. Gutierrez said Mr. Loughner would call at 2 a.m. and ask, “Are you hanging out in front of the house, stalking me?”

“He started to get really paranoid, and said he did not want to see us anymore and did not trust us,” Mr. Gutierrez said.

“He thought we were plotting to kill him or steal his car or something,” Mr. Gutierrez added. “It got worse over time.”

Mr. Gutierrez said Mr. Loughner had mentioned Ms. Giffords only once, saying that he had been unhappy with how she had responded to a question he asked at a public appearance about the nature of government. Mr. Gutierrez said Mr. Loughner had shown little interest in politics.

“He was a nihilist and loves causing chaos, and that is probably why he did the shooting, along with the fact he was sick in the head,” he said.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/12/us/12giffords.html

  41. From the same article above:

In September, Mr. Loughner filled out paperwork to have his record expunged on a 2007 drug paraphernalia charge. Although he did not need to bother — he had completed a diversion program so the charge was never actually on his record — the incident stuck in the mind of Judge José Luis Castillo of Pima County Consolidated Justice Court.

It was unusual, for one thing, the judge said, that anyone knew how to go about filling out such forms. And the judge’s review of the court record showed that Mr. Loughner had completed the diversion program in 2007 in almost record time and had been very polite, with nothing to indicate the kind of behavior that he is now accused of.

“It definitely crossed my mind,” the judge said, that Mr. Loughner was making the request only because he was worried that the drug paraphernalia charge would prevent him from buying a weapon.

  42. Thanks, td for posting the info about Sheriff Dupnik. I read that as well the other day. It all plays into Dupnik as the water carrier for Obama’s agenda.

Otherwise, why would BO make note of him calling to THANK Dupnik for doing his JOB? The old dude needs to be investigated for what he knew and when did he know it.

What is a curious coincidence in the Gifford shooting is Giffords is a proponent of Centrism/Third Way. This is an important fact that is getting buried in all the hoopla.

Giffords was in the process of organizing and networking with her fellow House members enlightening them as to the more desirable position of going “Centrist” seeking a balance between the Leftists or the Right Wing working both sides of the aisle. Rather than a total shift from the Left to the Right ultimately changing the flow of Obama’s agenda by attracting Obamacrats to the Clinton Dems, giving them a home to fall back during the transition period. Then hopefully in time becoming a force to be reckoned with between the ugliness of the Republicans and the out of control goons, Obamacrats.

  43. How lucky could this bastard Obama get, ha? This week was going to be all about healthcare repeal vote but now he and his lapdogs have effectively used this incident to silence a rigorous exchange on that. It may not work with everybody but it will muffle some fraction of the opposition. It will also muffle the GoP presidential hopefuls to start a vigorous debate on that issue (SeattleGonz at NQ makes this point as well).

  44. Basil, yeah i know but surely they must have known how sick he was, i would have had sectioned him ages ago. the warning signs were all there apparently but its hard to put a family member in a mental institution, they also learn how to trick you very convincingly.

  45. “How lucky could this bastard Obama get, ha? This week was going to be all about healthcare repeal vote but now he and his lapdogs have effectively used this incident to silence a rigorous exchange on that.”

The same thought has occurred to me.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and he or his dreadful wife will do or say something so atrocious – like when he tossed the flowers at the WTC 911 memorial – that his true insensitivity, disdain and contempt for the victims will be revealed.

What a thing to hope for but I hate that he is able to capitalize on the suffering of others who he doesn’t give a sh!t about.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will travel to Arizona with President Obama tomorrow

  47. Don’t know how much of this believable, you know psychics and all..

In August 2005, Morgan was holding appointments at a Chandler hotel. She said her last client for the day was a young man named Jared Loughner. She didn’t know he was just 16 at the time.

“He creeped me out,” she said. Morgan told CBS 5 News that Loughner asked her about the voices in his head. “He said to me, ‘Nobody likes my ideas about things. I hear voices and I knew you would be able to relate and not make fun of me.'”

Morgan claims to have the ability to speak with spirits of the deceased. “I told him what I do is different. I hear voices that are kind and loving. They pass along loving messages to their families who are still alive.”

Loughner, she said, was hearing voices telling him to take action. “I asked him, ‘Did you tell the health-care people that?’ He said, ‘No, they would put me in an institution.'”

Morgan said that as she was talking with Loughner, she got chills. “I saw him in an incarceration situation,” she said. “I remember exactly what I asked him, I said, ‘Have you been incarcerated? I see confinement. I see a jail cell.’”

According to Morgan, Laughner replied that he’d once been evaluated for depression.

  49. moononpluto,

I know what you mean. You would think the parents should have known something but maybe it’s too hard to admit evil in your children.

I don’t know. I do know I was once married to a POS who cleverly hid his true identity from me – and I was too blind, unwilling or incapable of seeing it – and when we parted ways I couldn’t beleive I had not seen the handwriting on the wall.

I can imagine it might be even harder for parents.

Again, I don’t know. It’s a tragedy for all concerned, even Jared. I don’t think his mug shot is of a person who was deliberately, consciously smirking. I just think he is mentally unbalanced. Or maybe I don’t want to believe he could really be aware of what he’s doing.

It’s like he was playing some violent friggin video game, divorced from the reality of his actions. Anyway, that’s what I hope it is.

  50. Oh boy, I hadn’t thought about this: Obots messing up the republican primary

    From SeattleGonz at NQ:

Thanks, Noogan. It’s been killing me that the whole dialogue of the moment has been moved away from the more likely and important issues of the moment. I mean Palin and a map that’s been up for 6 mos or more. Seriously?

These guys are masters at this crap and they have the press and bots working with them. They work everyone into a frenzy around this palin/map issue and then come in and get all reasonable like the calm and rational ones.

I just want those of us who want Obama defeated to stick together and not get lost in fights about Hillary, or other less important issues. Obama and his thugs will try to inflame the right to attack Hillary so that those of us who admire Hillary will be hesitant about supporting the repub candidate. (And it’s why they’ll do everything they can to keep Palin from being the nominee…including voting in the repub primary. Remember, if no one challenges obama in the dem primary, then all those obama supporters are free to reregister as republicans and vote in the republican primary. It’s going to be an intense battle.)

  52. Authorities are taking a closer look at Loughner’s parents. I read today, a neighbor who knew both parents said, the father became strange and reclusive forbidding the son to go outside. Jared was a victim of unloving, cold, uncaring parents. They lived off of the lawsuit money they received from the injuries Jared received falling from a schoolyard play gym.

He has the same problem as others in big media. Having moved from gatekeeper to advocate there is no way for him to go back to gatekeeper. In doing so he alienates the new left, and the conservatives no longer trust him. This gets back to the larger problem that when there is no leadership in the country, no one willing to rise above partisanship, everyone retreats to their own cultural villages. People do not trust each other, hence they no longer trust each other. Big media made a fatal mistake when they crossed the line from gatekeeper to advocate because those on the opposite side now believe they are unfair, and will not listen to what they say. The same thing is true of our benighted president. He thinks he can play games with things like his birth certificate, trash the country, but when a situation arises where any president needs to speak for the entire nation and unite it, most people will look him in the eye and say, I do not trust anything you say. Just as big media has opted for the role of advocate over gatekeeper, he has opted for the role of campaigner over the role of governor and statesman. There is a vaccuum in leadership, and a corrupt media. This is a harmful condition for the country.

  55. Loughner’s father did not work. He stayed at home. The mother’s pay wasn’t enough to support three people and pay the bills. Their subsistence was derived mainly from the lawsuit settlement, as per a neighbor.

  56. Most people in public life have partisan views on things, but the smart ones do not parade around with their hearts on the sleeve, or subvert the rules of the system just to win. They allow for a certain diversity of opinion, they are willing to be persuaded to a different viewpoint as long as it does not violate their core principles, and they understand the inherent risks of pushing partisan advantage to its bitter end. That is not what you have in big media and the Democratic Party today. You have the New Left running the show, and they are perfectly willing to destroy the village to save it. Obama is simply their mascot, bon vivante and script reader. A total vacuum in leadership.

Jan, I read this today. The rules regarding such a legal strategy were tightened over the years in the wake of the verdict for John W. Hinckley Jr., who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. The insanity argument is now seldom successful, legal experts said.

What is more likely, they say, is that Mr. Loughner’s lawyers will use any mental health problems they find to stave off the death penalty, if he should go to trial and be convicted.

Jared seemed to crave attention and most of all a loving parent. I have the feeling his father was a strict, dominering parent. His mother may have been unable to deal with his mental illness and the ‘shame’ of having a defective child with mental problems was too much for her to bear. It seems she relied heavily on her husband for disiplining their son which was a one way street for the poor kid absent any affection or caring from his mother. Definately became a recipe for disaster.

Anyone in Law Enforcement or Mental Health in Pima County that ever had contact with Mr. Loughner is now in bunker mode. Everyone is afraid of lawsuits down the road. They are evaluating their behavior and checking to make sure they followed all rules governing the care of Jared Loughner.

Lawfully some of the people that had knowledge of Mr Loughner could never come forward without subpoena by a lawful authority. Others are just too afraid.

It is my sincere hope that transparency in the investigation will prevail. We are dealing with very big issues that will affect the prosecution and defense of Loughner.

That is the only thing that should be of concern to law enforcement at the moment.

    A Predictable Tragedy In Arizona

    By E. FULLER TORREY

The killing of six people in Tucson is one more sad episode in an ongoing series of tragedies that should not be happening. The alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, is reported to have had symptoms associated with schizophrenia—incoherent thought processes, delusional ideas, erratic behavior—and almost certainly was seriously mentally ill and untreated. The fact that he was barred from his college until he was evaluated by a psychiatrist would appear to confirm the nature of the problem.

The truth is that these tragedies are happening every day throughout the United States. The only reason this episode has received widespread publicity is because there were multiple victims and one victim was a member of Congress. Such senseless killings have become increasingly common over the past 30 years, starting in about 1980, when Allard Lowenstein, coincidentally a former congressman, was killed by Dennis Sweeney. Sweeney was a young man with untreated schizophrenia who had been Lowenstein’s protégé in the civil rights movement. Congress was also prominently involved in 1998, when Russell Weston, who also had untreated schizophrenia, killed two policemen while trying to shoot his way into the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

These tragedies are the inevitable outcome of five decades of failed mental-health policies. During the 1960s, we began to empty the state mental hospitals but failed to put in place programs to ensure that the released patients received treatment after they left. By the 1980s, the results were evident—increasing numbers of seriously mentally ill persons among the homeless population and in the nation’s jails and prisons.

Over the past three decades, things have only gotten worse. A 2007 study by the U.S. Justice Department found that 56% of state prisoners, 45% of federal prisoners, and 64% of local jail inmates suffer from mental illnesses.

A 2008 study out of the University of Pennsylvania that examined murders committed in Indiana between 1990 and 2002 found that approximately 10% of the murders were committed by individuals with serious mental illnesses. There are about 16,000 homicides a year in this country. Using the Indiana study as a guide, roughly 1,600 of them are likely committed by people with serious mental illnesses.

In Arizona, public mental-health services are among the worst in the nation. In a 2008 survey by the Treatment Advocacy Center, Arizona ranked next to last among all states in the number of psychiatric hospital beds per capita. If you don’t have hospital beds and outpatient clinics to treat mentally ill people, those people don’t get treated. Thus the tragedy was somewhat more likely to happen in Arizona because mentally ill individuals are less likely to receive treatment there. Although Arizona is the worst state, except for Nevada, in psychiatric-bed availability, there is no state that currently has enough beds for its mentally ill population, according to the Treatment Advocacy Center study. This tragedy occurred in Arizona, but it could easily have happened in any state.

The big picture is even scarier. Based on Arizona’s 2010 population and on estimates by the National Institute of Mental Health of the number of individuals with untreated schizophrenia at any given time, there are today in Arizona over 21,000 individuals with untreated schizophrenia. Most of them, thankfully, are not violent. But a small number of them—about 10% according to my meta-analysis of relevant studies—do become violent, usually because of their delusional thoughts and what their voices (auditory hallucinations) are telling them. This situation holds in every state. It is thus not a question of if such tragedies will occur but rather when and how often.

Mr. Loughner’s delusions fixated on Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, one of 12 seriously injured in the shooting. Some have speculated on the possible relationship of our acrimonious political climate to the incident. It is, however, unlikely that there is any such relationship, since similar tragedies occur in politically harmonious times as well.

The motivation for such killings is usually based on psychotic thinking, not political thinking. Dennis Sweeney killed Allard Lowenstein because he believed that Lowenstein had implanted a transmitter in his teeth that was sending messages to him. Russell Weston stormed the Capitol because he believed the government had hidden a machine there that could reverse time.

The solution to this situation is obvious—make sure individuals with serious mental illnesses are receiving treatment. The mistake was not in emptying the nation’s hospitals but rather in ignoring the treatment needs of the patients being released. Many such patients will take medication voluntarily if it is made available to them. Others are unaware they are sick and should be required by law to receive assisted outpatient treatment, including medication and counseling, as is the case in New York under Kendra’s Law. If they do not comply with the court-ordered treatment plan, they can and should be involuntarily admitted to a hospital. Arizona has such a provision in its laws, but it is almost never used.

Ultimately, it is important to hold state officials responsible for not providing sufficient resources to treat those who suffer from serious mental illnesses. For almost two centuries, it has been an accepted function of state government to protect disabled persons and to protect the public from individuals who are potentially dangerous. State governments have been very effective in emptying the hospitals in an effort to save money but remarkably ineffective in providing treatment for seriously mentally ill individuals living in the community

  68. “Anyone in Law Enforcement or Mental Health in Pima County that ever had contact with Mr. Loughner is now in bunker mode. Everyone is afraid of lawsuits down the road. They are evaluating their behavior and checking to make sure they followed all rules governing the care of Jared Loughner.’

As killers go, Jared Loughner is not reticent. Yet among all his writings, postings, videos and other ravings – and in all the testimony from all the people who knew him – there is not a single reference to any of these supposed accessories to murder.

Not only is there no evidence that Loughner was impelled to violence by any of those upon whom Paul Krugman, Keith Olbermann, the New York Times, the Tucson sheriff and other rabid partisans are fixated. There is no evidence that he was responding to anything, political or otherwise, outside of his own head.

A climate of hate? This man lived within his very own private climate. “His thoughts were unrelated to anything in our world,” said the teacher of Loughner’s philosophy class at Pima Community College. “He was very disconnected from reality,” said classmate Lydian Ali. “You know how it is when you talk to someone who’s mentally ill and they’re just not there?” said neighbor Jason Johnson. “It was like he was in his own world.”

His ravings, said one high school classmate, were interspersed with “unnerving, long stupors of silence” during which he would “stare fixedly at his buddies,” reported the Wall Street Journal. His own writings are confused, incoherent, punctuated with private numerology and inscrutable taxonomy. He warns of government brainwashing and thought control through “grammar.” He was obsessed with “conscious dreaming,” a fairly good synonym for hallucinations.

This is not political behavior. These are the signs of a clinical thought disorder – ideas disconnected from each other, incoherent, delusional, detached from reality.

These are all the hallmarks of a paranoid schizophrenic. And a dangerous one. A classmate found him so terrifyingly mentally disturbed that, she e-mailed friends and family, she expected to find his picture on TV after his perpetrating a mass murder. This was no idle speculation: In class “I sit by the door with my purse handy” so that she could get out fast when the shooting began.

Furthermore, the available evidence dates Loughner’s fixation on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to at least 2007, when he attended a town hall of hers and felt slighted by her response. In 2007, no one had heard of Sarah Palin. Glenn Beck was still toiling on Headline News. There was no Tea Party or health-care reform. The only climate of hate was the pervasive post-Iraq campaign of vilification of George W. Bush, nicely captured by a New Republic editor who had begun an article thus: “I hate President George W. Bush. There, I said it.”

Finally, the charge that the metaphors used by Palin and others were inciting violence is ridiculous. Everyone uses warlike metaphors in describing politics. When Barack Obama said at a 2008 fundraiser in Philadelphia, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” he was hardly inciting violence.

Why? Because fighting and warfare are the most routine of political metaphors. And for obvious reasons. Historically speaking, all democratic politics is a sublimation of the ancient route to power – military conquest. That’s why the language persists. That’s why we say without any self-consciousness such things as “battleground states” or “targeting” opponents. Indeed, the very word for an electoral contest – “campaign” – is an appropriation from warfare.

When profiles of Obama’s first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, noted that he once sent a dead fish to a pollster who displeased him, a characteristically subtle statement carrying more than a whiff of malice and murder, it was considered a charming example of excessive – and creative – political enthusiasm. When Senate candidate Joe Manchin dispensed with metaphor and simply fired a bullet through the cap-and-trade bill – while intoning, “I’ll take dead aim at [it]” – he was hardly assailed with complaints about violations of civil discourse or invitations to murder.

Did Manchin push Loughner over the top? Did Emanuel’s little Mafia imitation create a climate for political violence? The very questions are absurd – unless you’re the New York Times and you substitute the name Sarah Palin.

The origins of Loughner’s delusions are clear: mental illness. What are the origins of Krugman’s?

  71. Something is wrong in that county and definitely with that sheriff. Look at my comment
(January 11th, 2011 at 7:48 pm) about the NYTimes article. The judge wonders how did this guy even know to fill that form to erase his drug related charges (probably his mom helped him). But that also enabled him to go through background check to buy a gun.

  72. If the goal of the Obama handlers in injecting him into this matter was to show that he could rise above politics and united the country in the aftermath of a serius tragedy, then once again he failed miserably in his mission. By commending the sheriff, he ratified the libelous statements which the sheriff has said up to this point. This marks yet another failure of leadership by Obama. Rather than uniting the country he has further divided it.

  73. After Tucson: Why Are the Mentally Ill Still Bearing Arms?

As far back as the Gun Control Act of 1968, there have been federal laws against selling weapons to mentally ill individuals. But the Virginia Tech tragedy in 2007, in which the shooter Cho Seung-Hui was able to pass two federal gun background checks even after a state court ruled that he was dangerously mentally ill, highlighted the need for better record-keeping and interagency communication to enforce those laws. (More than 30 people died in the incident.) Saying that unstable individuals are disqualified from buying firearms is meaningless if the national background-check system, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), has no record of their illness. [….]
[T]here should be more than 2 million records in that database, if all the states cooperated fully. According to the Brady organization’s records, Arizona was not even the worst offender — at least the state ramped up its reporting somewhat in the wake of Virginia Tech. But still, Arizona’s own estimate is that the state has 121,700 records of disqualifying mental illness that should go into the NICS database. From the beginning of 2008 to October 2010, however, it submitted only 4,465 records. Worse than Arizona were states like Louisiana, which submitted only one record during that time frame, and Nebraska and Pennsylvania, which didn’t submit any.

  74. Mrs. Smith,

I hope you don’t get more than 1 foot of snow. Up here in Western Canada, we had a terrible snow storm last weekend. It started on Friday afternoon and continued until Sunday afternoon. We had 3 feet before we were finished and my shoulders ached from shoveling so much snow.

    Take care and bundle up.

  75. A friend of mine called tonight. She told me she sees Sarah Palin as a Joan of Arc figure. She said the left wing media has put her over a spit and is burning her alive. She asked me whether anyone is trying to save her. I told her that Krauthammer and a handful of others have come to her defense, but most of big media is either complicit or afraid to speak out. They are elitists and they despise anyone who speaks for the middle class. She asked me what about the Republicans? Surely they are coming to her defense. After all, she was their candidate for Vice President two years ago, and has helped bring the Tea Party into their ranks. I told her that I saw little evidence that they are rallying to her defense. And that begs another question: What kind of an organization leaves it leaders in this position as the vultures move in? An organization of cowards.

  76. The party has no interest in saving her as they cannot control her, thats why the Dems did it to Hillary and why they do it to Palin, they hate strong independent women that dont sit down so they can pat her on the head like a good little women.

  77. The party has no interest in saving her as they cannot control her, thats why the Dems did it to Hillary and why they do it to Palin, they hate strong independent women that dont sit down so they can pat her on the head like a good little women.
    —————————
Perhaps that is true of people like Orin Hatch, Murkowski (I), Brown, The Old Maids from Maine, McConnell and their ilk, who have no interest in doing what is right for the American People, only what gets them campaign contributions. But what about the younger members who came in with the Tea Party movement, where do they stand on this high tech lynching? The question needs to be asked, and their silence to date is deafening. They will never get a better opportunity than this to rip the tonsils out of big media, and if they did that they might innoculate themselves from future attacks. But if they cower as they do now, then by the grace of god they will be next. It is like the old Arab expression the dog that did not bark.

  78. I’ve long admired Sarah’s unflappability, but sadly I sense that she is becoming disheartened by all the attacks. I know I am. I’ve supported SarahPAC fairly regularly and gave healthy support to her first Legal Defense Fund. When a court ruling froze that account, I responded in a lesser amount to her second Defense fund campaign. And then, came her request to help recoup monetary losses for the more recent cyber attack. [I cannot provide details on the last attack.] But at some point, even for me there comes the realization that people have made her a money pit. I feel terrible about it, but my resources are limited.

Admin, a great article. On the previous thread I expressed fury over potus making much of Tucson while ignoring Fort Hood. Still seething. Have come to the realization that potus has great empathy for politicians, little for military. Cannot relate. Doesn’t fit in. How sad for the military.

  79. You know it occurs to me that if Hillary hadn’t become SoS and remained a senator, they would have made her pariah too. If she fought back it would have been cast as a bitter loser. She made a smart move to protect herself.

Murkowski’s ‘win’ made Palin weaker in Alaska and elsewhere.

There is a Pavlovian quality to this. Big media rings the bell and the rubes salivate. However, this composite of polls with suspect methodologies, and bias never is nor will be a reliable barometer. As I recall, in the aftermath of 9/11 Bush popularity rose to 80% raher than a modest move of a point or two as here. The test will come later this year, and at that point, I intend to ignore what this composite average of suspect polls says and focus instead on Rasmussen. A tragedy like this which cannot be tied to him is meaningless this far out. Frankly, I am shocked this freebie did not give him a huge spike in this kind of a poll.

  92. So I checked Rassmussen for January 12, and here is where he has it:

    1. the key metric: strongly approve vs strongly disapprove= -13 (these are the influencers who drive elections). We have seen this number fluctuate over time, as high as 17 but there is no sea change here. Big negative territory)

    2. the general metric:: 48% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president’s performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapprove. (pretty constant–and generally negative, but not nearly as meaningful)

    3. Note: unlike other polls, this one focuses on likely voters, and is not controlled by big media like NBC or CNN, who have proven themselves who are Obama shills for whom the expression garbage in garbage out is salient and meaningful. Their corrupt pollsters have been working in conjunction with their newsroom to create a false picture which will last only until the next crisis. The health care deform debate should drive his numbers further down–and they cannot limit the damage to congress, since he signed it and took credit for it.

  93. “No one should be deterred from speaking up and speaking out in peaceful dissent, and we certainly must not be deterred by those who embrace evil and call it good. And we will not be stopped from celebrating the greatness of our country and our foundational freedoms by those who mock its greatness by being intolerant of differing opinion and seeking to muzzle dissent with shrill cries of imagined insults.”

Finally, a fact: Jared Loughner and the Tucson shooting

In the midst of all the fog, hypocrisy and nonsense, one enlightening fact has now emerged to answer the question, “What could have been done, that wasn’t done, to prevent Jared Loughner’s rampage?”

There are no doubt a range of possible answers to that, but, according to a piece on NPR by Laura Sullivan, there is one very big and quite definite answer. The article is headlined :

“A Missed Chance To Intervene In Tucson?”

Jared Loughner could have been involuntarily admitted for evaluation under Arizona’s progressive mental health laws long before he allegedly showed up at a Tucson grocery store parking lot with a semi-automatic pistol, mental health professionals say.

    […]

Arizona allows for family, friends or even acquaintances to petition a local court for a mental evaluation, said Suzanne Hodges, chief compliant officer at the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, the group that provides mental health treatment for Pima County, where the shooting occurred. The court would have then sent someone to interview Loughner and determine if he needed treatment — even if he was not an imminent danger to himself or others, as most other states require.

Being in such treatment would have prevented him from purchasing a handgun, according to Arizona’s gun laws.

At the risk of sounding glib, there you have it.

Unlike most other states, Arizona doesn’t require a new law to address the problem of dealing with people who are displaying clear psychotic symptoms but have not yet harmed themselves or others.

Those who knew Jared Loughner and observed his descent into psychosis could have taken advantage of this. The question now becomes whether they were aware of this legal path to getting treatment for Loughner.

Some research, some enquiries, might presumably have made them aware, of-course. In addition, law enforcement officers (e.g. Sheriff Clarence Dupnik) would surely have been aware of this legal remedy and could have recommended it to concerned friends and/or family of Jared Loughner.

Why did that not occur, we may well now ask, given his problematic history of making threats and causing disturbances? Perhaps, understandably, Sheriff Dupnik was too busy writing important opinion pieces and giving speeches on political matters — like immigration — to take much of an interest in a potentially dangerous psychotic individual in his jurisdiction who was crying out for treatment.

People in Arizona need to be made more aware of this kind of legal path towards compelling treatment for such individuals, and in particular it should be well known by college administrators, and procedures should be established to take advantage of it in such school settings, where symptoms of schizophrenia often first come to the fore.

  98. Since chivalry is evidently dead, the lady is forced to fend for herself–and does so brilliantly. And here is the video to prove it. This is the speech that the gadfly in the White House should have delivered – the high road to unity, as opposed to the low road he rook to keep the controversy alive, by praising the irresponsible behavior of Sheriff Dimwit. There can be no doubt that Big Media jumped the shark and their belated call to tone down the rhetoric is both pathetic and laughable. The only thing I disagree with here is the challenge which Moe Lane throws down to the Dimocratic Party who disenfranchises its own voters and passes trillion dollar bills without bothering to read them to act in a responsible manner. Does a cat bark? If you believe that there are responsible democrats then I agree with you. My point is they are in the minority, their voices get drowned out in the group think, and because Congress acts collectively rather than individually, it is as if they did not exist. They have no impact on an administration that is selling America down the river. They are just rank in file.

    Moe Lane

Mister President, here’s the bar that you have to clear.

It’s a high one. A much higher one than your attendants are telling you that it is. They are almost certainly telling you to concentrate on the ‘blood libel’ comment – which, by the way, will immediately resonate with at least 40% of the population of the country, mostly because it is darned accurate* – but what you really need to do is take note of the fact that she’s saying the things that the President should be saying right now about the need to come together, the glory of this country – and, yes, that the Democratic party is acting like a bunch of [expletive deleted] right now, and that they need to stop.

Call in your speechwriters. Make them watch this speech. Tell them that you need one just like it, only twice as good. Because if you don’t – if you go with your usual scheme where you try to set yourself up as the only rational solution in a world full of the irrationa – you will merely hasten your irrelevance.

(See also here: I promoted, but I had more to add).

  103. Clinton admits WikiLeaks will dominate the rest of her life

    By Cahal Milmo
    Wednesday, 12 January 2011

Outwardly, Hillary Clinton’s progress through the capitals of America’s most crucial Middle Eastern allies in recent days has been to bolster support for the war on terror. Privately, she admits it is also an “apology tour” aimed at undoing the damage caused by the WikiLeaks revelations.

The American Secretary of State, who was yesterday in Yemen on the latest stage of a three-day series of meetings with Arab leaders, broke off from discussions about the effectiveness of sanctions on Iran and al-Qa’ida activity in the Arabian Peninsula to tell aides she needed a tour jacket, like those worn by rock band roadies, with a “big picture of the world and would say ‘The Apology Tour’ on it”.

The disclosure of the first tranche of more than 250,000 toe-curlingly frank diplomatic memos held by WikiLeaks has caused Washington particular embarrassment in the Middle East, where countries in close proximity to Iran, including Saudi Arabia, are known to have been unhappy at the revelation that they were privately urging a tougher line against the regime in Tehran.

The cables also revealed Saudi suggestions for a pan-Arab force to crush Hezbollah in Lebanon and the view of the Tunisian president that Syria acts as an Iranian proxy in the Middle East.

Mrs Clinton, who is on her second trip to the region in a month, told the Washington Post that she had tried where possible to “affirmatively raise” the WikiLeaks issue with her hosts to show that the problems were being tackled. The international face of the Obama administration conceded it would take a period of years to undo the damage caused by the leaks: “I think I will be answering concerns about WikiLeaks for the rest of my life, not just the rest of my tenure as Secretary of State.”

The police were sent to the home where Jared L. Loughner lived with his family on more than one occasion before the attack here on Saturday that left a congresswoman fighting for her life and six others dead, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said on Tuesday.

A spokesman, Jason Ogan, said the details of the calls were being reviewed by legal counsel and would be released as soon as the review was complete. He said he did not know what the calls were about — they could possibly have been minor, even trivial matters — or whether they involved Jared Loughner or another member of the household.

A friend of Mr. Loughner’s also said in an interview on Tuesday that Mr. Loughner, 22, was skilled with a gun — as early as high school — and had talked about a philosophy of fostering chaos.

The news of police involvement with the Loughners suggests that county sheriff’s deputies were at least familiar with the family, even if the reason for their visits was unclear as of Tuesday night.

The account by Mr. Loughner’s friend, a rare extended interview with someone close to Mr. Loughner in recent years, added some details to the emerging portrait of the suspect and his family.

“He was a nihilist and loves causing chaos, and that is probably why he did the shooting, along with the fact he was sick in the head,” said Zane Gutierrez, 21, who was living in a trailer outside Tucson and met Mr. Loughner sometimes to shoot at cans for target practice.

Read the whole thing here. Maybe Dupnik’s non-stop media appearances are simply his way to audition for a pundit job, because his law enforcement job ought to be drawing to a close right about now.

  111. I just read Palin’s facebook speech…the irony is if those words came from anyone else…even a Clyburn…or especially from O, the media would go on and on about the mature tone…bla, bla, bla…but Palin, no she is to be denied even her right to express “intellectual thoughts’ because according to the dems, the media and specifically Clyburn…she is not capable…

…this is the epitome of condescending misogyny and elitism and entitlement…

    ***************************************

I heard Travis Smiley speaking on C-Span talking to college students from all over the country…he let the ‘cat out of the bag’ when he told them that on all these cable broadcasts and newsrooms they have their morning meetings and decided what the story is going to be that day…and then that story drives every segment all day long…

…of course, this comes as no surprise to any of us, as we recall MSNBC starting in the early morning with their latest hit on Hillary and then how that story got repeated all day long on every show they had and then started again the next day…

…they use their ploys, as Wobbei stated I think yesterday, when Wbb indicated how on CNN they bring on the bomb throwers to state the worst stuff possible against the person they are trying to take down and then the anchor or host can simply come back and say “well, we do not have any evidence of that”…of course, by then the damage has been done…and the worst stuff will be repeated and quoted for as long as it takes to achieve their agenda…

until we stop hearing the constant projection of one side on to another side without taking any responsibility for their same behavior…and worse, thinking that they are entitled to say whatever they want about anyone…in this case, Palin is in the “crosshairs”…then nothing will change and all we have is the same hypocrisy we already know is there…we, here at Hill44, have seen all of this up close and personal…full some one once…you do not get the chance to pull it again…

So sorry to hear about your stepson. I can only relate from my own experience of what I would do in a similar circumstance. Search for the best doctors with the highest rate of success in treating the child and always be aware potential suicide is always on the table.

The best treatment available for Mental illness is as important as looking for the best treatment for Cancer. Both illness are as terminal to the patient if the treatment isn’t done in time.. I don’t want to sound pollyanna-ish… so, I will try not to be.

Mental illness is placing unbelievable demands on family members, requiring more patience and understanding because there isn’t a cure, only management. It has to be dealt with as early as possible. The individuals suffereing from mental illness have to be in alot of pain themselves, where their minds are always in overdrive looking for peace.

Theres no silver bullet for Mental illness and sadly some of the outcomes are painful and sad.

We do the best we can with the cards we’re dealt and hope and pray for the strength to keep on going, putting one foot in front of the other every day…

Clinton admits WikiLeaks will dominate the rest of her life
    ——————

why does she say that? nobody is talking about it.
    ————-
We may not be talking about it and the media might be ignoring the fallout, but there was and continues to be major fallout with a number of nations around the world. I am assuming that mending fences with her foreign relations cohorts will take time and that trust will always be iffy from now on.

He’s just now saying this???? I realize Obama used blackmail to get folks in line but really!

Dominate? She said she’d probably be talking/apoligizing about it for the rest of her life. That does not mean ‘dominate’. She’ll probably be getting her hair trimmed for the rest of her life, but that doesn’t mean she’ll spend the rest of her life at the hairdresser’s.

Thanks Ms. Smith. The unfortunate reality is they too commonly refuse treatment, and we are left with involuntary commitment to public mental health facilities which, in our case, completely ignored the family’s input and assessed him to be “a model patient”.

  119. JanH,
Thanks for post that tripping that Hillary did getting in to the plane…I was worried! She looked tired too.

Heck at our age, we trip over the craziest stuff. I tripped on my own pajamas and went down like bowling pen.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society.

This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical “life ground” attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a “Resource-Based Economy”.

    infowars.com/zeitgeist-2-theosophy-socialism-and-the-new-nwo/

    snip…

Zeitgeist Addendum seems to further the cause for this New World Order, neo-socialist paradigm. With America politicians and representatives ignoring the masses and passing off the debt of banks on to the general public, one can see the seeds of new world socialism emerging right here in America. It’s no coincidence that just as the New World Order beings implementing marxist thought in so called free countries, Zeitgeist Addendum shows up to incite the masses in a global call for marxism.

If one should prefer to save 2 hours and skip watching Zeitgeist Addendum, its proposals are clearly spelled out in a relatively unknown book entitled “The Externalization of the Hierarchy” written by Alice Bailey. Actually Bailey claimed to have channeled an “Ascended Master” known as “the Tibetan” or Djwhal Khul who penned the book through her.

Bailey was also the founder of the theosophical Lucifer Trust (later changed to Lucis Trust). Please note, that the solution to the faltering global economy offered by Zeitgeist Addendum is “The Venus Project.” Venus, also known as the morning star is synonymous with the term Lucifer.

Haiti – Reconstruction : Bill Clinton, angered by the slowness
    ____________________

In my post about strong women, Sarah and Hillary. I inadvertently cut out this part I wanted to post:

Imagine the cojones on Bill putting his own ego aside and letting Hillary have her own place in the sun being all she can be.. without the subtle nasty put downs slurring women whenever the opportunity arises. I don’t hold his infidelities against him as some do, holding them up as a way of diminishing his brilliance and greatness. When men tell me… but Bill screws around with everything in a skirt, he’s a hound… I say, Well then tell me what you have accomplished lately that compares to what he has done for us and the country.. it all boils down to nothing more than their insecurities and inadequacies. Fidelity is not a prerequisite to success or being liked by all. If the naysayers were half as successful as he is they would just smile and appreciate him for all his warts and foibles and say he is humble, caring, great man… Remembering nobody is perfect, so suck it up and get real.
    _____________________

Frontline ran a story last night on the crime and discord going on in Haiti. I didn’t watch it went to bed instead. It wouldn’t surprise me though if the Chicago Combine is trying to give him a black-eye making it look like he is failing in Haiti.

After all, he’s doing what he did in Harlem for the AAs but being so far away in another country, Haiti is quite a challenging undertaking and will take the strength of Charles Atlas helping those people putting them on their feet and have them become self sufficient.

  123. btw…Hillary looks like she has lost weight…she is probably exhausted with not only the extreme physical schedule but also the demanding intellectual schedule she keeps…

can’t help it, I have to say it again…if only Hillary was in charge…if only…

(wonder if Clyburn will allow Hillary’s intellectual ability to proceed and exist!)

  124. Thanks Ms. Smith. The unfortunate reality is they too commonly refuse treatment, and we are left with involuntary commitment to public mental health facilities which, in our case, completely ignored the family’s input and assessed him to be “a model patient”.

It seems the boy had given up on himself and didn’t want to go through the agony and hardship of acquiesing to his family. You tried your best, and that is what is important. You can’t fault yourself. If at a different time and place maybe… addressed when he was 10 or 12 he could have made the adjustment and eventually felt better about himself.. I feel they are in alot of pain 24/7 and it’s hard to relate to the agony they experience because we cannot know how much pain this illness brings with it to it’s victim..

  125. Hillary, please take off those high heels!

I took a few spills on the sidewalk, tripping over raised surfaces and said, “Nuts to this crap!” I haven’t stumbled since wearing comfortable shoes.

Enough is enough. Who invented the damn heels anyway?

You don’t see men stumbling in their flat shoes unless they are drunk.

  126. this is from ABC, The Note…regarding SP’s comments…they write:

BOTTOM LINE: Sarah Palin, once again, has found a way to become part of the story. And she may well face further criticism for the timing and scope of her remarks. She is already taking heat for her use of the term “blood libel” (see today’s Tweets). In her video she notes, “President Obama and I may not agree on everything, but I know he would join me in affirming the health of our democratic process.” It remains to be seen exactly what Obama will say tonight, but White House aides say another goal of his address will be to lift the nation up in this moment, not sully it with politics.

    *************************************

there it is…our MSM…they can say anything they want…go after the Clintons nonstop..or attack SP and her kids…every day NONSTOP…and when she, or Hillary or Bill…emphasis also on Bill…decide to speak up and have their say or even defend themselves…then we get our MSM telling us that they…the Sarah Palin’s or Bill Clintons have found a way to make themselves part of the story again…

…like that old thing about Bill sucking up all the energy in the room and his big ego…and now Palin making the story about herself…

what a freaking joke…the media and the dems make the story about her and then are amazed that with she stands up for herself like any other American would…

they tried to intimidate the rest of us into silence…and make us “yes we can’ robots…

    **********

like travis smiley indicated…what a bunch of idiots we have running the show…and telling us how to think…

  127. BOTTOM LINE: Sarah Palin, once again, has found a way to become part of the story.

    ——-
Darn it Sarah, don’t ya know women need to just sit down and shut up and let the big boyz talk and do all the thinking?

In politics they are only admired if they bring in donations and are good cheerleaders for the party. Otherwise, they are a big threat.

  128. “Enough is enough. Who invented the damn heels anyway?”

Same mindset as foot binding. Keep women weak and unable to flee. When it comes down to it women aren’t treated any differently than they were centuries ago.

  129. Shadowfax,

Enough is enough. Who invented the damn heels anyway?

You don’t see men stumbling in their flat shoes unless they are drunk.
    ——————————–

Hear, hear, I’ll drink to that. Get rid of the heels, they are dangerous! I haven’t met a man yet worth trying to walk in Stelleto’s for and I know I won’t either. Men do like women to wear them though….they can stuff that along with all the other things they like for us to do to!

Actually I don’t know how Sarah walks in those things, I guess she’s just used to them. They look painful!

  130. “I really hope Chicago isn’t involved.”
    ____________

I know. But you have to be prepared to deal with the worst. Obama isn’t fool enough to give up thinking Hillary isn’t into taking his seat. Chicago always goes for the throat, no second chances with these people. Bill has to determine if the crime and chaos is from within or are outsiders stoking the flames within paying honchos to cause the instability.

He is rightfully so upset about this situation, I’ll bet, he’s doing his own detective work.

  131. Mrs.Smith,
I agree with you about Bill Clinton’s infidelities….bottom line they really make no difference in the scheme of things…Bill has done great things for the world and deserves the credit for it which he will never get because he has a couple of warts. Well he who is without warts should cast the first stone..HUH?

When I think of Newt, I think of his warts, not his good works because of all the finger pointing he did at Bill while he was doing the very same thing….while old Newt was looking at the splinter in Bill’s eye, he had a whole timber in his. I just can’t overlook hypocrisy…infidelity yes…it’s so human!

  132. I have to admit Sarah looks pretty good in her long skirts and stilettos. I don’t think anyone should mess with her though, they would get a 6in heel right in the kisser.

  133. Interesting. One of the things the media and blogger boyz are going nuts over, besides Palin, is one of Michelle Bachman’s statements. It’s being touted all over as proof that the right has been calling for violence.

Here’s the bit that’s being screamed from the rooftops:

I want people armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax, because we need to fight back

Sounds pretty awful, huh? Whatever possessed her to say such an incendiary thing? But I searched today and just found the CONTEXT of that remark, which of course the media ignores. It was at a meeting with some voters about the Cap and Trade bill. And what Rep. Bachman said was that she was going to have fact sheets and materials available for them after the meeting, to take with them, to counter and refute talking points, because she wanted them “armed” as they went out to lobby against it. THAT is the context in which she said “armed and dangerous”. It’s obvious as the nose on your face, if you see the whole of what she said, that she was referring to being “armed” with INFORMATION, not bullets.

I am no fan of Bachman. She gives me the creeps. But it is in no way fair to pull that “armed and dangerous” comment out of the context of her specifically saying she was going to “arm” them with information. It’s a crock.

  134. If Palin’s map were really able to, er, trigger lunatics — then why are her opponents reproducing it in their blogs?

  135. WHY IS THERE A VIDEO OF HILLARY TRIPPING ON DRUDGE??? Is this huge news or what? Oh the lefties probably replay that video and laugh….gosh I’m sick of them! They have Sarah video of “blood libel” and Hillary video of tripping right underneath.

These fuckers are vile, no doubt men are putting this Drudge together. If there are women involved with it they should be sent to Afganistan in a Bikini!

  136. crazy horse,
She does look good, but that’s all I hear about her when I talk to these Dr.s, it isn’t her politics! Oh well, a vote is a vote no matter how you get it, for politics or stelleto’s, LOL!

  137. I hope Palin isn’t getting discouraged, and I doubt that she is. She must have fought worse things early in Alaska. Now she has a wide base of support, many different projects she can do (without needing anyone’s permission!).

Of course her long statement today would be sober, almost repressive.

  138. But it is in no way fair to pull that “armed and dangerous” comment out of the context of her specifically saying she was going to “arm” them with information. It’s a crock.

    ==================

Good example. Angle’s “take out Harry Reid” is clarified in context too. I don’t know how serious she is in her WARNING about ‘second amendment solutions’ — but she’s saying that the way to PREVENT worse action is to vote Reid out of office.

  139. What time are we to be victimized by another speech from the “great orator”? Anyone know?

Buddha on a popsicle stick, these morons never learn where Palin is concerned. I’m not talking about them being wrong, I’m talking about it just from a pure political strategy standpoint. They are stoooooooopid. Dumb as a box of rocks. Almost 60% of the public is disgusted with THEM over this crap, not with her, and what do they do? Double down on idiocy and attack her some more. Yeah, that’ll work. Scream and yell and stomp their feet that she had the temerity to NOT grovel and apologize for whatever it is they were accusing her of.

Oooo, they shriek – look at her! She’s…she’s DEFIANT! How dare she not stick her head in the noose we so handily provided for her! These people are stone cold morons. Dumb, wrapped in stoopid, inside a a bubble of clueless. Oh, and media? I got news for ya, jackos. You have not been the arbiters of public opinion for quite a few years now. No one trusts you. No one believes you. The whole world has shifted, everyone knows journalism is dead, and you are too damn insular and arrogant to even recognize it when it repeatedly stares you in the face (and points and laughs.)

    =============

Yep. And over a colorful phrase I’d never even heard of before. So any of us who might be using it (apparently some people were, as ‘false accusation’) are now being told we’re anti-Semitic?

Fwiw, in the last 10 years up to 2010 Google finds 2,300,000 instances of the phrase ‘blood libel.’
In the past 24 hours, 950,000.

According to Goldman at Natl Review, the term ‘blood libel’ was introduce several days before Palin’s speech, by Glenn Reynolds.

    Off to look that up….

  156. Paging Wbboei….

Here’s a comment from the Natl Review article. Is it a clue to anything real?

Isn’t blood libel part of many cultures and, I believe, the foundation of such concepts as lex talionis? Isn’t there technically a blood libel for the murder victims? And aren’t blood libels now dealt with by state authorities and courts – well at least in the West? It would seem to me that in this context, Palin’s talk of people “manufacturing a blood libel” (= making false accusations of responsibility for the murders) is appropriate.

  157. trust me, if Sarah had got down on bended knee and prayed to God, they’d have said she knelt the wrong way and it was outrageous.

  158. LOL!

I love this headline over at hotair.

ABC: Why must Sarah Palin insert herself into this story by defending herself against charges of inspiring murder?

  159. And this is even better, From Ace.

Howard Kurtz: Sarah Palin Could Have Struck A More Inclusive, Moderate Tone Merely By Confessing To The Left’s Charges Against Her & Admitting She Was An Accomplice To Mass-Murder

  160. Here they go again! ‘Blood Libel’ seems very apt to me and she knows exactly how to needle these fuckers.

  161. Not only does this moron twist what she said, but he implies that Americans can do no wrong. She wasn’t putting Americans on the same moral plane as extremely violent regimes. She was simply saying that it happens everywhere, even at home.

Hillary Clinton’s Dangerous Bout Of Moral Equivalency

    by Joseph Klein
    Posted on January 12 2011

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton insulted her country while traveling in the Middle East this past week and participating in a televised feel-good town hall-style meeting at a college in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

This is nothing new for the Obama administration, which makes a habit of trying to make dysfunctional societies feel better by highlighting our faults and engaging in a game of moral equivalency. However, Clinton took this game to a whole new, disgraceful level.

Twisting the truth about the alleged Arizona murderer, Jared Loughner, Clinton characterized him as an “extremist” influenced by “the crazy voices that sometimes get on the TV.” There is no evidence for her to make such a connection. In fact, the evidence adduced so far shows that Loughner is simply a nutjob. The voices he hears are all in his head. Nevertheless, Clinton used the tragic shooting to tell her Abu Dhabi audience that we are on the same level as they are when it comes to the threat from extremists lurking in our respective societies.

Clinton got into this discussion when she was asked why Americans appear to blame the entire Arab world for 9/11. Instead of firmly dispelling the myth that Americans blame all Arabs or all Muslims for 9/11 and pointing out Americans’ legitimate concerns with the widespread fundamentalist strains of Islam that call for jihad and hatred against non-Muslims, our Secretary of State sought fit to say the following:

We have the same kind of problems…the extremists and their voices, the crazy voices that sometimes get on the TV, that’s not who we are, that’s not who you are, and what we have to do is get through that and make it clear that doesn’t represent either American or Arab ideas or opinions.

While Bill O’Reilly appropriately went after that dippy Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik for mouthing off his unsubstantiated political theories on what led to the shooting, O’Reilly inexplicably gave Hillary Clinton a free pass for equating American “extremists” with Islamic “extremists.” As Secretary of State, Clinton is in a position to do far more damage to our country’s reputation with such canards than a local sheriff.

Islamic extremism is a global problem because it has become the driving force of Islamic ideology. Extremism, as we would define it, has become the norm throughout much of the Muslim world. Islamic law, teachings and history are loaded with continual incitement to hate and war against the infidels of any faith or belief other than Islam.

While the worst examples of Islamic extremism have appeared most prominently in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan and Iran, the more “moderate” countries in the Muslim world are far from immune. For example, the supreme court of the United Arab Emirates, the country where Hillary offered her views on comparable extremism in the Arab world and the United States, has issued a ruling affirming that it is a fundamental right of an Islamic male to administer beatings to his wife.

The only countries in the world with no female representatives in their governing bodies have been all Arab Gulf states. Apparently Representative Gabrielle Giffords or, for that matter, Hillary Clinton herself, would have no place in those countries’ governments.

Back in 2006, over 100 copies of the social studies text book ‘World Cultures,’ taught to the sixth grade children in an upscale American school in Abu Dhabi, were confiscated by the Ministry of Education, for allegedly presenting Islam and the Muslim countries including Gulf states in a negative light.

And here, for good measure, are some examples of what children have been taught during the last six years in the schools of our close Middle Eastern ally, Saudi Arabia:

    1. “Every religion other than Islam is false.” Taught in 1st grade.

    2. “Whoever obeys the Prophet and accepts the oneness of God cannot maintain a loyal friendship with those who oppose God and His Prophet, even if they are his closest relatives.” Taught in 5th grade.

    3. “As cited in Ibn Abbas: The apes are Jews, the people of the Sabbath; while the swine are the Christians, the infidels of the communion of Jesus.” Taught in 8th grade.

    4. “The blood money for a Muslim woman is half of the blood money for a male Muslim, and the blood money for an infidel woman is half of the blood money or a male infidel.” Taught in 10th grade.

    5. “The apostate (Muslims who convert, question or doubt Islam) is required to repent to the ruler. If he repents and returns to Islam, it is accepted and he is left alone. If he refuses it is mandatory that the ruler kill him.” Taught in 12th grade.

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and respect for the individual — the hallmarks of Western democratic societies — are life-affirming values that are far superior to what have become the defining norms of Islamic law and ideology in many Arab and other Muslim countries. Yes, we have extremists and nuts in our society, and we are not perfect. However, putting our society on the same moral plane as societies under the sway of an ideology that systematically denies rights to non-Muslims and to women is obscene.

  162. Using the ‘D’ word, depression

    [snip]

In the past few years, we’ve all been careful to choose our words carefully, not calling it a recession until it fit the technical definition and avoiding any inappropriate use of the “D” word — Depression.

Things were bad but the broader economy never reached Depression territory. The housing market, on the other hand, just crossed that threshold.

Home values have fallen 26 percent since their peak in June 2006, worse than the 25.9-percent decline seen during the Depression years between 1928 and 1933, Zillow reported.

November marked the 53rd consecutive month (4 ½ years) that home values have fallen.

What’s worse, it’s not over yet: Home values are expected to continue to slide as inventories pile up, and likely won’t recover until the job market improves.

  163. Freepers did some good research here. http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2655755/posts Scroll down a few screens.

    One commenter said:
“My google of “blood libel” that asked it to exclude jewish, anti-semite, Palin, etc., turned up 44,000+ hits.”

Alan Dershowitz 1/12/2011: “The term ‘blood libel’ has taken on a broad metaphorical meaning in public discourse.” You don’t say. He continues: “Although its historical origins were in theologically based false accusations against the Jews and the Jewish People, its current usage is far broader. I myself have used it to describe false accusations against the State of Israel by the Goldstone Report. There is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim.””

Defenses of use of ‘blood libel.’

Btw, there’s soemthing that makes my computer throw up a target symbol on the screen occasionlly. If I go mad, that’s why….

  165. Instead of firmly dispelling the myth that Americans blame all Arabs or all Muslims for 9/11

    ======================

Some posts here are more likely to support that myth than to dispel it. EG “I learned all I need to know about Muslims on 9/11”.

  166. While the worst examples of Islamic extremism have appeared most prominently in Saudi Arabia, Egypt,

    =====================

Egypt is where thousands of Muslims turned out to guard Christian Coptic churches. From unidentified terrorists who may have been just trying to start trouble.

    ehhhh… no problem, Shadow.

I be generous, if I have X-tra points,
    I’ll give you some! 🙄

  168. turndown,

C’mon. Yes they turned out to guard the churches. That happened very recently. There are plenty of examples where other muslims went on the attack.

Doesn’t mean that Egypt is 100% evil or 100% good. Just means that there has been a predominance of violence in that area of the world.

And yes I’m sure you can give me another example of the “good” part, but you are assuming that we are too dense to realize that some statements in articles are more extreme than others.

We do know how to maintain balanced opinions here and don’t need to constantly have this sort of thing thrown at us.

  169. Krauthammer on Fox saying we have lost our minds having a conversation about the term blood libel when a women who was shot is fighting for her life.

  170. Krauthammer is right in that the dems started all the finger poiting at Palin and the tea party to change the subject about the dems losing the House and the looming debate over the health care bill. It sure worked.

Blood Libel, was a big phrase for them to digest.

    44,000 hits on google?

  172. Has it come down to taking a few words out of context and trying to totally destroy reputations?

Has anyone noticed how extreme behavior, hatred, and lies have risen since the twit stole the potus position?

He brings out the absolute worst in people and could very well cause a future international war with all his blunders.

    Just sayin

  173. Haven’t read Krauthammer, but if people are going to talk about the Tucson shooting, how about the gun control issue?

Apparently the right laws were there, ie background check required, but the famous Sheriff hadn’t followed up on Loughner’s previous threats and had kept his name out of the system.
