Barack Obama Is A Great Bargainer And Negotiator

We’re not kidding. Barack Obama is a great bargainer and negotiator. The reason why we are forced to defend the boob is because there is great wailing, gnashing of teeth, and lamentations across the Hopium dens and Big Media publications denouncing (or at least “questioning”, which for an Obama Hopium Guzzler is akin to a great denunciation) Obama’s negotiating skills.

Why, the Hopium Guzzlers ask, is their Boob God Obama surrendering on issue after issue and getting nothing, absolutely nothing, in return? We have an answer. It’s an answer we have been providing to the witless dolts for years. Are you ready to hear the answer?

Ready?

Really?

Are you really ready for the answer?

Well here it is: Obama is a great bargainer and negotiator when it comes to getting something for himself.

Yup. Dolts, idiots, Hopium Guzzlers, how else do you think Obama got that great Rezko house in Chicago if not for his great bargaining, great negotiating skills and willingness to sell anything and anyone out?

And there is no contradiction in calling Obama a great bargainer and a boob simultaneously – he’s a great bargainer for his personal advancement and personal interests – he’s a boob because he has no world view (if any) that comports with reality and because he lacks the experience and intellectual depth (yup, he’s a dummy no matter what you read) to learn from experience, preferring to bitterly cling to the insults and abandonment dreams of his father.

On issue after issue Barack Obama has (and will continue to) publicly emit flowery words and in secret work to stab people in the back who applauded his flowery worded speeches. But the dolts don’t get it even though we explained it long ago:

“Cosmologists look at the universe and decide upon a theory of what they are seeing.

In earlier Earth history cosmologists agreed that the universe revolved around the earth. These cosmologists fought and derided those who believed the Sun was the center of our star system. Eventually the cosmologists who, based on evidence – not faith nor hope, determined the Earth revolved around the Sun were proven right.

The same can be said of the current debate about Barack Obama. Here at Big Pink we have contended that Barack Obama is a flim-flam man. Obama is only interested, as his own wife has stated, in his selfish self-advancement and careerism. According to us, Barack Obama is an opportunist who has never accomplished anything but his own self-advancement; Obama is not qualified to be president; is a boob; and lacks a basic rational world-view as well as any experience for the job he has been gifted.”

But for all that, these Obama worshiping dolts continue to try to explain “why is Obama doing this?” when the answer is staring them right in the face. These “reality community” well educated “scientific principles” idiots abandon reality, and scientific principles when they refuse to accept that the square peg of their perception of Obama cannot fit into the round hole of reality. So they continue to create obviously faulty theorems and wacky cosmologies to try to explain their defective star’s role in the political universe.

E.J. Dionne who must be numbered among the most witless is befuddled today about Obama’s clumsiness and stupidity. Today Dionne asks “Where Is Obama Going?” Dionne starts his teen-age musings about Obama with an anecdote which has little to do about what we discuss today but which is revealing of the political climate and amusing as well:

“As I was passing through security at Boston’s Logan Airport on Tuesday night, a TSA worker discovered a penny in one of the bins that had just gone through the screener.

He picked up the coin, turned to a colleague and said with a grim smile: “This is your Obama bonus.”‘

If we wrote that amusing and revealing anecdote we would hear the familiar “racist!” charge. No doubt if it was not his own anecdote, Dionne would call those TSA agents “racists!”. But back to the point of our discussion and Dionne’s head-scratching about Obama:

“Which made me wonder: Is President Obama’s strategy of offering pre-emptive concessions destined to make enemies of his potential friends in the electorate without winning over any of his adversaries?

The idea of freezing the pay of federal workers could be a sensible part of a larger, long-term deal that would combine spending reductions with tax increases. It’s an obvious element in any negotiation. But Obama simply threw in the federal workers in exchange for — well, as best I can tell, nothing. And in the short term, shouldn’t jobs and rising incomes be a higher priority than austerity?

Worse, every signal out of the White House is that it is prepared to cave in to Republican demands for a temporary extension of all of the Bush tax cuts, including those for millionaires who are in rather less need of additional income than security workers at Logan or nurses at government hospitals.”

Dionne engages in a variation of the game “Twister” as he tries to explain what Obama is doing. Most of the “Twister” defenses typically fall back on the Obama is Mr. Spock of Star Trek playing a Bobby Fischer eleven dimensional chess match. But the chess explanation quickly falls apart when the results come in. What even the eleven dimension chess playing apologists eventually realize is that the goal of chess, war, and politics is not to play the game well – but to win.

The big hurdle for the Hopium Guzzlers hoping to run on the fast track to reality is that Obama’s personal interests and personal advancement is not what is good for most Americans or even for them. But Hopium is a strong drug and they cannot bear the thought that they have been so thoroughly bamboozled. Pity the poor Hopium Guzzlers!

While scratching their heads over their bobble-head boob god the Hopium Guzzlers do not forget to demonstrate their ignorance by attacking “Clintonian triangulation”. What these dolts and idiots do not understand is that Bill Clinton, as he himself said, zigged to the right and zagged to the left, but Bill Clinton knew what direction he was going to take the country in. Bill Clinton experienced defeats but he won the war. Abraham Lincoln too used to say that he might go to the left bank of the river then the right bank of the river but that he was still moving upstream. No so with Barack Obama – he scores a “win” as something that he assumes will be popular and that no matter how fleetingly makes him look good – even if that “win” leads to losing the political war.

With Barack Obama the raft of state is spinning and twirling and at the mercy of the tides and the currents. But not to worry, as the raft of state gets tossed and ground down, the captain is wearing a very spiffy outfit with spotlights on him and things are going great for him. El Capitan Obama says to the crew “ignore your real jobs, just keep the spotlights on me, make me look as good as possible, come play basketball and golf with me, give me speeches with flowery words scrolling through the TelePromTer and adoring audiences – and don’t forget to schedule my Hawaiian vacation and other recreations for myself and my sleeveless partner.”

Obama can’t roll down Ol’ Man River and be a leader captain because he does not know or care what he is or what he thinks (all he thinks about is himself) policy-wise. Here’s a laugh from the conservative HotAir which mocks the clown with his own words:

“Barack Obama must be having one hell of an identity crisis. He campaigned for office as a post-partisan moderate, but has governed as a big government tax-and-spender. When talking to the New Democrat Coalition in March 2009 — just after his Keynesian plan to spend $800 billion for economic stimulus — Obama told them he was a New Democrat. Five weeks ago, Obama told liberal bloggers that he is really a progressiveTom Elia notes a passage in a New York Times article by Matt Bai reporting that Obama privately insists he’s a … don’t laugh … Blue Dog Democrat?”

He’s a Barack Obama Dimocrat. Whatever he thinks makes him look good in the immediate moment Obama will demand be done. These concepts are very hard to understand especially for those who are well educated and think they are high-information very smart people – when in fact they are dolts.

Case in point for the ones who think they are smart and worldly wise but in fact are silly, foolish pom-poms at the parade: the LeftTalkers.

“I have no idea what Obama and the Dems are thinking on these issues. Either they are this stupid or this incompetent. As many things happened that I disagreed with during this Administration, the month after the election has been incomprehensible to me on any level.

My refrain is “pols are pols and do what they do.” But what they do is generally intended to help them win election or reelection. Nothing that Obama and the Dems have done seems geared towards that end. It is impossible to understand.”

It’s impossible to understand only when you refuse to accept the evidence. But of course these are the “vote for the media darling” cadres of the Hopium Guzzling Brigades. The difference between the unembarrassed Hopium Guzzlers and the Left Talker Hopium Guzzling Obama cadres is that at least the unembarrassed Hopium Guzzlers don’t stand around sipping Slurpees and acting sophisticated and above it all and pretending that they support Obama only out of necessity.

The refrain of “pols are pols and do what they do” is excuse making. It explains nothing but appears ever so sophisticated and sounds like it actually means something. But it is a phrase soaked in meaninglessness. “Cancer patients are cancer patients and do what they do”, “trees are trees and do what they do”, “Obamas are Obamas and do what they do” “bacteria are bacteria and do what they do” – phrases which make the intellectually bereft feel themselves wise and worldly.

Those of us not making excuses for a self-centered boob who should never have been president understand that politicians have the same frailties as all humans but that the worthy ones know when to stand their ground and when to seek common ground.

Those of us not making excuses for a self-centered boob who should never have been president understand that the United States is governable not a helpless pitiful giant with a pea brain. Granted we have fallen on hard times but it is our leaders who have failed us.

That Obama became president without any worthwhile experience or accomplishments is testament to his extraordinary abilities in bargaining and negotiating. Unfortunately the United States and the American people lost out in that corrupt bargain.

If Obama Knew the Arab States Wanted to Hit Iran, Why Did He Continue to Pressure Israel?

    Thursday, December 2, 2010

That’s the question Israel watchers are now asking.

WikiLeaks exposed that Arab leaders are urging the United States to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, that they see the Islamic Republic as the main threat to stability in the Middle East. Indeed, they appear to be even more desperate than Israel to take out Iran’s nukes.

Therefore, why did the Obama administration continue to peddle the concept of “linkage” between Mideast peace and an Iran strike? If U.S. allies were all on board with military action against Iran, why did President Obama publicly press the case that only peace between Israel and the Palestinians would create the right environment for to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities?

Here’s how David Horovitz of the Jerusalem Post answers that question:

Obama, that is, was not the prisoner of a misconception, convinced in absolute good faith that if he could deliver Israeli concessions at the negotiating table he might stand a greater chance of getting the Arabs on board for the battle with the mullahs. No, he had the diplomatic cables to prove that the Israeli- Palestinian conflict was no obstacle to wide Arab backing, indeed wide Arab entreaties, for the toughest possible measures against Iran, emphatically including military action.

Either the president, it can be concluded, was so attached to his misconception that he refused to let the concrete information he had on Arab leaders’ thinking get in the way – sticking to his view of the region in defiance of the facts. Or, more plausibly, he had internalized full well that he didn’t actually need the cover of a substantive Israeli-Palestinian peace process to generate Arab support for tackling Iran’s nuclear program, but chose to pressure Israel just the same, as a tactic, because he felt Israel was not being sufficiently forthcoming on the Palestinian front. Neither explanation sits well, to put it mildly.

  4. There is so much to say about this. But I’m too pissed off. And it seems so obvious anyway.

While the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) asserted today that Haiti’s cholera epidemic is now “less lethal,” with a smaller percentage of cases dying today than at the start of the epidemic, a different, and probably more accurate view, comes from Dr. James Wilson, executive director and co-founder of Praecipio International, an NGO focusing on “operational biosurveillance” from the standpoint of national security. As one Canadian doctor put it, Haiti has only seen the first wave of the cholera “tsunami.”

Dr. Wilson, who has attacked USAID and the incompetent and negligent U.S. government response to Haiti, warns that “the upper bound of the estimated total (sub-clinical and clinically apparent) case counts to be nearly one million,” adding, however, that “from a practical operations point of view, these estimates are academic. The bottom line is the epidemic continues to spread completely out of control.

This figure is based on information gathered by HEAS, the Haiti Epidemic Advisory System, a network of Praecipio’s “operational biosurveillance” partners who are on the ground in Haiti. There is a big discrepancy between what HEAS’s partners report and the official numbers coming from PAHO, WHO, et al.

What is not reflected in the official numbers, Wilson argues, “is the continually documented ‘first contact’ pattern of daily clinical mortality seen by rural communities and urban environments such as Gonaives.” There remain “vast areas of the mountainous, rural areas of Haiti (i.e., two-thirds of the country) that are ‘off the grid’ where people die in their homes without access to care. Forced walking distances from 8 hours to infinity are the reality for these people. Being forced to walk on a difficult mountain trail while medically deteriorating with cholera is a major facilitator of death…. A silent death where lack of reporting does not indicate ‘no death.'”

“In some areas of Haiti, we have confirmation that in-patient statistics are under-reported by as much as 400%,” Wilson reports. “In many areas of Haiti, we are documenting outbreaks that are not being accounted for in the official statistics…. We err on the side of over-estimating because this is a ‘virgin soil’ epidemic and expected to aggressively spread throughout the country….”

A HEAS map of Haiti’s cholera epidemic, found on Praecipio’s website, divides the country into red, orange, and yellow regions. Of the three, HEAS describes yellow—Haiti’s southern peninsula—as the “next battle front.” Cholera has been confirmed there at multiple sites, but the majority of the international response is focused on Port-au-Prince, Artibonite, and more recently, the North. “The South is relatively untouched in terms of response,” but HEAS suspects “far more activity than what is reported because of very low NGO presence. We also note very large time lags in official reporting from this area. The southern peninsula is the next battle front, where we expect the ‘war’ to go very badly given the low availability of response assets.”

House of Representatives Passes Middle Class Tax Cut Extension

House Votes to Extend Bush-era Tax Cuts – Except for Highest Earners

The Democrat-led House of Representatives has voted to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for families making $250,000 or less – but not on incomes above that threshold, as Republicans have demanded.

The vote is likely largely symbolic, since the bill is unlikely to get the 60 votes it needs to break a GOP filibuster in the Senate.

The Obama administration and Congressional leaders are now in negotiations on crafting a compromise between the White House position that the cuts not be extended for incomes above the $250,000 threshold for families (or $200,000 for individuals) and the Republican position that they be extended for all Americans.

Most political observers expect Democrats to agree to extend the tax cuts for all Americans at least for a few years, possibly in exchange for GOP votes on Democratic priorities like ratifying the START nuclear treaty with Russia or extending unemployment insurance, which expired on Tuesday.

Before the vote, House minority leader John Boehner called the effort “chicken crap” that reflected “political games” on the part of Democrats. Boehner will be House speaker when Republicans take over the chamber in January.

The vote was 234-188, with 12 members not voting.

  6. BO’s identity crisis reminds me of the character Zelig (in Woody Allen’s movie of the same name) who is not only a chameleon, but insinuates himself into people’s lives and significant historical moments.

  7. How many years of unemployment does it take before it is welfare? It appears these jobs are not coming back, at least for the near future.

I have a hard time with this one. Believe me, I am grateful I work in a profession that is still needed, but it wasn’t always that way. I was an artist and majored in Art my first go around in college. The real world made me realize I did not have enough talent to make a go of it, so I worked crummy jobs, put myself through school again in a profession I could depend on. I know many of the unemployed are older, and that is the part that bothers me the most at all of this and my feelings about it. It’s scary hard to be 60 and be unemployed.

I don’t think we should be bailing out Europe, oh the irony, greatness of socialism…nor do I think we should have bailed out our own, but at some point, call it what it is…welfare

Personally, I am tired of working for everyone else. When is it my turn? By the looks of it, nothing will be left of my little nest egg by the time I am graced to have it crack open to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

If that sounds selfish, I just am feeling that today

  8. Of course I write that and then the first article I read it this

    WSB Radio
(WSB Radio) — Despite the freezing temperatures, hundreds fought for a place in line in Marietta to apply for federal aid to help pay their heat and power bills this winter.
Only 30 people were being let in at a time at the assistance center in Marietta.
“It was freezing,” applicant Linda Benefield told WSB-TV. “I was in line for three hours and 15 minutes, but I needed the help.”
Some needed even more help just to deal with the cold. Ambulances were cold in and took at least two people to the hospital because of the freezing temperatures .
“People just couldn’t stand the cold,” said applicant Deandre Marshall. “They were not letting people in fast enough.”
Marshall said people in line were crying, afraid they would not even get a chance to apply.
“I never thought I would be in the line,” Marshall said. “It’s almost like being in a soup line during the great depression.”
The money is offered through a network of agencies in Georgia.

  9. Yeah, gonzo, actually it sounds pretty selfish. My uncle worked his entire life as a farmer and then a factory worker. He is has paid his taxes, always played by the rules. He is skilled, terribly hardworking older American who can not find a job and whose factory closed down. His benefits will end next week.

By the way, the unemployment rate for whites with a college degree is 5%. For whites without a college degree it’s 20%, but why should you pay for their welfare?

  10. The bailing out of Europe has zero to do with socialism. It’s mostly those countries willingness to give up their own currency and signing on to the Euro, and then bailing out their banks with far less strings than even here in the US(see Ireland).

  11. The Pharaoh had a strange dream. Seven fat cattle followed by seven starving cattle and the starving cattle devoured the fat cattle. None of the priest could explain it, so they sent for a man named Joseph and he told the Pharaoh that it means seven good years followed by seven years of drought. For reasons which elude most scholars even to this day, the Pharaoh chose Joseph to deal with the problem. Joseph constructed silos throughout Egypt to store grain in preparation for the coming famine. At that time, there was a thriving middle class in Egypt. History tells us that the Pharoh owned 20% of the land; the priest as a group owned 30% of the land; and the remaining 50% was widely held by the middle class. The first year of the famine, the middle class landowner came to the Pharaoh and begged for seeds. He told them they would give them seeds, but only if they gave him their cattle, which they did. As a result they had no cattle. In the second year of the famine, they begged the Pharaoh for more seeds. He told them he would give them the seeds, but only if they gave him their land, which they did. As a result they were no longer landowners. In the third year of the famine, they begged the Pharaoh for more seeds. He told them he would give them the seeds, but they must become slaves and give him 20% of what they raised for their own consumption. I have a friend who is a Jesuit trained scholar. He is convinced that is the game Obama and the people behind him are playing. Then he fast forwards to the period of the Roman Empire. The heart of the empire was the soldier farmer. He notes that if you watch the opening scene of the movie The Gladiator you see the hero walking through a wheat field caressing the wheat with deep symbolism which most people would not understand–unless you understood what it meant to be a Roman soldier. History records that Rome fell sometime in the 5th century but its demise began much earlier, when the Roman aristocracy stopped purchasing the wheat raised by Roman citizens and began importing the cheaper wheat raised in the conquered lands of Carthage. The great middle class of Rome was systematically destroyed in this manner and along with it the very foundation of the Roman Empire. This same scholar points to this example and says plus c’est la même chose, to which I say those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Again, the culprit is Obama and the people behind him. Coincidentally, this Jesuit trained scholar is right where I am on the subject of Soros/

  13. Yet JanH, Jewish leaders in congress remain silent and our fellow Jews voted 66% democratic in the midterms!!!! American Jews have by and large abandoned Israel much like the democratic partyhas turned against israel. I am grateful for Christians who are more supportive than my fellow Jews..

  14. Instead of complaining maybe its time for Nancy and Harry and Barrack to skip down the yellow brick road to the Great and Powerful Carville and see if they can beg him to give them all an anatomical refit. Or better yet, just get new leadership, starting with the 2012 Democratic presidential primary.
One thing is certain for now. With Republicans putting Obama in a hammerlock he is almost certain to say ” I give”. And what he will give is the same thing Bush gave. Tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans which will add another $700 billion to the deficit while he ditched the public option which would have cut the deficit by $160 billion and provided accessible healthcare to tens of millions of Americans who dont have it. And one more important thing to remember. Both the House and senate can pass legislation renewing the tax cuts for the middle class and letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire and there is nothing the Republicans can do about it. Tax legislation can be passed using reconciliation, the same way the Republicans enacted the tax cuts in the first place. That would prevent a Republican filibuster. So dont be fooled by anything less coming from the still Democratically controlled congress. If they dont pass the tax legislation through reconciliation and instead compromise with Republicans, going against their own consciences, you’ll know who to blame and who is at the heart of it.
And why this White House is not so much a ship of state but a Ship of Fools.

  15. WikiLeaks founder Assange ought to be hiding from America

    By Charles Krauthammer
    Friday, December 3, 2010

It is understandable for the administration to underplay the significance of the WikiLeaks State Department cables. But while it is wise not to go into a public panic, it is delusional to think that this is merely embarrassing gossip and indiscretion. The leaks have done major damage.

First, quite specific damage to our war-fighting capacity. Take just one revelation among hundreds: The Yemeni president and deputy prime minister are quoted as saying that they’re letting the United States bomb al-Qaeda in their country, while claiming that the bombing is the government’s doing. Well, that cover is pretty well blown. And given the unpopularity of the Sanaa government’s tenuous cooperation with us in the war against al-Qaeda, this will undoubtedly limit our freedom of action against its Yemeni branch, identified by the CIA as the most urgent terrorist threat to U.S. security.

Second, we’ve suffered a major blow to our ability to collect information. Talking candidly to a U.S. diplomat can now earn you headlines around the world, reprisals at home, or worse. Success in the war on terror depends on being trusted with other countries’ secrets. Who’s going to trust us now?

Third, this makes us look bad, very bad. But not in the way Secretary of State Hillary Clinton implied in her cringe-inducing apology speech in which she scolded these awful leakers for having done a disservice to “the international community,” and plaintively deplored how this hampers U.S. attempts to bring about a better world.

She sounded like a cross between an exasperated school principal and a Miss America contestant professing world peace to be her fondest wish. The problem is not that the purloined cables exposed U.S. hypocrisy or double-dealing. Good God, that’s the essence of diplomacy. That’s what we do; that’s what everyone does. Hence the famous aphorism that a diplomat is an honest man sent abroad to lie for his country.

Nothing new here. What is notable, indeed shocking, is the administration’s torpid and passive response to the leaks. What’s appalling is the helplessness of a superpower that not only cannot protect its own secrets but shows the world that if you violate its secrets – massively, wantonly and maliciously – there are no consequences.

The cat is out of the bag. The cables are public. Deploring them or trying to explain them away, a la Clinton, is merely pathetic. It’s time to show a little steel. To show that such miscreants don’t get to walk away.

At a Monday news conference, Attorney General Eric Holder assured the nation that his people are diligently looking into possible legal action against WikiLeaks. Where has Holder been? The WikiLeaks exposure of Afghan war documents occurred five months ago. Holder is looking now at possible indictments? This is a country where a good prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. Months after the first leak, Justice’s thousands of lawyers have yet to prepare charges against Julian Assange and his confederates?

Throw the Espionage Act of 1917 at them. And if that is not adequate, if that law has been too constrained and watered down by subsequent Supreme Court rulings, then why hasn’t the administration prepared new legislation adapted to these kinds of Internet-age violations of U.S. security? It’s not as if we didn’t know more leaks were coming. And that more leaks are coming still.

Think creatively. The WikiLeaks document dump is sabotage, however quaint that term may seem. We are at war – a hot war in Afghanistan where six Americans were killed just this past Monday, and a shadowy world war where enemies from Yemen to Portland, Ore., are planning holy terror. Franklin Roosevelt had German saboteurs tried by military tribunal and shot. Assange has done more damage to the United States than all six of those Germans combined. Putting U.S. secrets on the Internet, a medium of universal dissemination new in human history, requires a reconceptualization of sabotage and espionage – and the laws to punish and prevent them. Where is the Justice Department?

And where are the intelligence agencies on which we lavish $80 billion a year? Assange has gone missing. Well, he’s no cave-dwelling jihadi ascetic. Find him. Start with every five-star hotel in England and work your way down.

Want to prevent this from happening again? Let the world see a man who can’t sleep in the same bed on consecutive nights, who fears the long arm of American justice. I’m not advocating that we bring out of retirement the KGB proxy who, on a London street, killed a Bulgarian dissident with a poisoned umbrella tip. But it would be nice if people like Assange were made to worry every time they go out in the rain.

The astounding and pathetic bullsh-t of the last of the Obots

Obama apologists in the White House have grown tired of whining about Obama’s allegedly rotten treatment, so The Hill has decided to whine for them. Read the piece for a fine recitation of the current Obot pathos. After you may ask – is this article a joke? Obama is one of the smartest men to ever be President? Is that the punchline? Where is the evidence – outside the ongoing delusions of the Obama apologists – that Obama is so smart? The evidence from an outside observer suggests he is cocky, detached, not very savvy, and takes a lot of vacations. “Smart” does not come to mind.

Obama is the joke. An arrogant man elevated too quickly and over matched by events. What economic disaster have we been ‘saved’ from? We’ve printed and borrowed money that will have to be devalued to be repaid in order to save the richest of the rich. This is not smart. It’s lazy. 10% unemployment IS A DISASTER. We’ve not been saved. Big banks and Wall Street have.

Obamacare is a trainwreck of political malpractice that is already failing, with over 100 companies getting passes on implementation. Even the Administration knows it won’t work.

I could comment on Obama’s foreign policy…if it existed.

What a strange, pathetic, little article The Hill post is. What’s underneath this is simple enough. The writer can’t accept that he backed the wrong horse for the wrong reasons. He falls back on the “Obama is so smart” trope. It’s sad at this point. Put yourself in an Obot’s shoes: The transformational Presidency meme is D.O.A. The meme that Obama is a great orator has nearly done a 180, so awkward and dull are his press conferences. The policy ‘successes’ are distant and intangible to most – not exactly what the Obots expected. He’s lost the House and will lose the Senate in 2012. Whatever he can achieve in the next two years – it will be a far, far, cry from the hope and change expectations of 2008. The Obots are left with “It’s too bad because he’s so smart.” Which is, of course, a snide way of saying that we are not so smart. Obi is too bright a star for this sad, lame, little land. What’s more mentally ill – that they are willing to imply such wholesale nonsense or that they actually believe it? And, trust me, many of them do.

The writer in this case is giving us his real desire up front: Obama, don’t run again. If you do then the hologram we projected might fracture even more. If you don’t run in 2012, struggle valiantly against the GOP hordes for 2 years and exit – then, and only then – will we be able to salvage our delusion. We can freeze the hologram of your circa 2008 greatness. It will become our static idol forever. We shall worship it every time something goes wrong in the future. IF ONLY THE NATION HAD UNDERSTOOD YOUR GREATNESS will be out desolate chant.

    It’s all bullsh-t. Sad, pathetic bullsh-t.

Exactly, why should I? I believe in giving a person a hand up and I think two years is a decent hand’s up.

I lost nearly a million dollars in the market, I won’t make that back, too old, but I go to work each day and I work overtime each week trying to save, year after year as my husband does. We worked 60-90 hours a week to make the money, and now the same to try to salvage retirement in some distant planet in an unknown galaxy. No one ever gave me anything, not even farming subsidies. and I have asked for nothing, but I will be damed if I feel obligated to work for those who can and don’t.

Obama is determined to run again in 2012 and to prevail like he did in 2008. Axelrod and Plouffe have already devised the strategy. But nobody in the White House worries about how to lead this country and govern in the interim. They are confident that they cam lie cheat and bamboozle, and the voters will fall for it. Governing does not matter. As a result, we have the grand spectacle of a great power in decline. Charles analysis is cogent on the one hand and obvious on the other. It is beter that a Prince be feared than loved, as Machiavelli wisely observed. But when all you worry about is skipped de dooda and the 2012 campaign, it is easy to lose sight of what ultimately matters. I hope the American People are a little smarter this time around, but if he can put them in a state of dependency or mesmerize them between now and then it may not matter.

Hillary: ‘Would You Ever Ask a Man That Question?”

Hillary Clinton put a pair of interviewers in their places after they asked her about her personal style, Daily Intel points out. Here’s the transcript from a “townterview” hosted by KTR Studio in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan:

MODERATOR 1: People always touch some personality of Hillary Clinton. We have some -not just silly questions, but (inaudible) –

SECRETARY CLINTON: Oh, I’ve never been asked a silly question in my entire life. (Laughter.)

SECRETARY CLINTON: What designers of clothes?

    MODERATOR 1: Yes.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Would you ever ask a man that question? (Laughter.) (Applause.)

  30. Crowley repeatedly tries and fails to attack Clinton over Wikileaks document

    December 02, 2010
    by Adam Shah

On December 1, Fox News contributor Monica Crowley attacked Secretary State Hillary Clinton over an alleged diplomatic cable recently released by Wikileaks regarding human intelligence collection on the United Nations. Crowley was up in arms about the document and said it “seems to be crossing a line.” But when given five minutes to explain, she could not come up with a rationale that held water and indeed repeatedly contradicted herself on what Clinton had allegedly done wrong.

The document in question provides guidance to State Department personnel on “the new National HUMINT [human intelligence] Collection Directive (NHCD) on the United Nations … as well as a request for continued DOS reporting of biographic information relating to the United Nations.”

Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, has said that Clinton “should resign if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations, in violation of the international covenants to which the U.S. has signed up.”

Appearing on Fox News’ America Live to discuss Assange’s statement, Crowley stated: “To enlist the diplomatic corps essentially as spooks when we have a real corps of spooks to do this job seems to be crossing a line.” Seconds later however, Crowley largely undercut her own argument by stating: “Look, I have no doubt that other nations at the United Nations are doing this to us.”

Before dissecting the rest of Crowley’s disastrous attempt to attack Clinton, let’s mention some crucial facts that Crowley neglected to mention during her appearance:

First, it is not a new policy for the State Department to gather human intelligence. The New York Times, which was given advanced access to the Wikileaks documents states that Bush administration Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had also ordered “more aggressive intelligence collection” in diplomatic cables.

Second, it is also not new for the United States to spy at the United Nations. The Times also reported: “While several treaties prohibit spying at the United Nations, it is an open secret that countries try nevertheless. In one 2004 episode, a British official revealed that the United States and Britain eavesdropped on Secretary General Kofi Annan in the weeks before the invasion of Iraq in 2003.”

Third, it shouldn’t surprise anyone in the international community that people introduced to them as diplomats are involved in espionage. CIA agents are often given an “official cover” as diplomats. Indeed, as Slate.com has reported: “Most CIA employees engaged in operations overseas are given official cover: a sham job in the U.S. embassy (or working for another government agency) that affords them diplomatic immunity.” And this is far from secret. Indeed, there is a Wikipedia entry on official cover. The CIA article on HowStuffWorks.com also discusses official cover.

Fourth, as National Journal’s Marc Ambinder reports, the document appears to be part of a government-wide effort to beef up human intelligence spearheaded by the CIA, not a State Department initiative.

From Ambinder’s November 30 post on the Wikileaks document:

As to the allegation itself: Did Hillary Clinton order diplomats to spy?

The easy answer is — no, she didn’t.

    […]

In Clinton’s case, since the original order was sent to the State Department as an entity (just like it was sent to the Commerce Department as an entity), Clinton’s name appears as the originator of the State cable providing further instructions.

The cable itself contains detailed requirements set by analysts at the CIA’s National HUMINT Requirements Tasking Center. The HUMINT tasking center is, well, tasked with figuring out what type of intelligence the U.S. government needs and how best to obtain it. In 2004, the CIA determined that, in order to provide value-added insight to policymakers enmeshed in complex negotiations about war and terrorism, it needed more raw data on foreign dignitaries, the United Nations, and various countries. The CIA’s decision to send out a tasking was itself derivative of a 2003 presidential national security directive issued by President Bush. The data would be used by many consumers: State’s own intelligence branch; the National Security Agency, which has representatives in the center; the CIA; and the Defense Intelligence Agency, which compile extensive databases of all sorts.

In 2009, the CIA updated its requirements and reissued the directive, which went to all members of the intelligence community, joint intelligence centers of combatant commands, and even to selected cleared personnel representing the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce overseas, as the 8,500-word cable itself makes clear. There is some regret in the Obama administration that the 2009 instruction wasn’t more carefully and narrowly tailored, but that’s an issue for the intelligence community to sort out, not Clinton, who, in all likelihood, never saw it. (The State Department won’t comment on the specific contents of any WikiLeaks cable.)

So once State got the order, Michael Owen, the acting State Department intelligence chief, dutifully distributed the instructions with a gloss as to what his shop could use to provide the intelligence community with better information.

Rather than discuss these important issues, Crowley continued to flail about for a line of attack on Clinton that would stick.

After claiming Clinton was “crossing a line” and then retreating from that claim, Crowley then moved on to another line of attack, saying that having the document “made public like this could be damaging, because diplomats have immunity from prosecution and they are also given greater access.” Host Megyn Kelly responded by saying, “it’s not her fault they were made public.” Crowley then conceded the point, saying “it wasn’t her fault but it’s very embarrassing.”

Crowley also said that she’d “be a little surprised if we weren’t” having our diplomats collect intelligence, again totally undercutting her argument that Clinton “crossed a line” in this case.

But believe it or not, Crowley’s anti-Clinton attacks became even less sensible after that. After Kelly played a clip of long-time Clinton hater Dick Morris saying that the Wikileaks documents show that Clinton is acting no differently from the way she acted during her husband’s presidential campaigns in the 1990s, Crowley jumped on Morris’ bizarre and implausible theory like a life preserver.

Crowley said: “I’ll tell you what’s most damaging to Secretary Clinton here. And again, I don’t think it’s the ordering of the diplomats to try to gather some human intelligence per se.” (Again, Crowley began her attack by saying Clinton was “crossing a line” by allegedly asking diplomats to gather human intelligence.) Crowley continued: “What I think is most damaging to her is the fact that it does bring up the old Hillary Clinton. This catapults the American mind back to the Clinton years when she was involved in a lot of skullduggery.”

Moments later, Crowley seemed to argue that the Wikileaks document wasn’t the real issue at all; rather it was what Crowley imagined to be Clinton’s substantive failings as Secretary of State.

CROWLEY: Let’s not give Hillary Clinton a pass. She has gotten a pass, Megyn, on every major foreign policy crisis that this administration has sustained. Since she’s been secretary of state, the reset with Russia is faltering, Iran is working toward a nuclear weapon, North Korea crises every couple of months, Mideast peace talks stalled. This woman has largely been ineffective and impotent on foreign affairs, and that’s the conversation we should be having instead of keeping giving her a pass on all this stuff. [emphasis added]

  32. Conservative Pam Geller at Atlas Shrugs joined in on the increasingly conventional wisdom about the WikiLeaks yesterday. It’s surprising how strong this view is among conservatives, even the ones who admit they hate Hillary. It’s not surprising that we would consider this plausible, but conservatives? Here’s part of what Geller wrote about the WikiLeaks:

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2010/12/wikileaks-obamas-war-on-america-target-hillary-clinton.html

“On the day of the biggest breach in national security in American history, when war, in effect, was declared on the United States, the traitorous President of the United States held a press conference to announce a pay freeze on federal employees, and took no follow-up questions.

Of course, it is insulting how “the plant” condescends to make so small and largely symbolic a gesture towards acknowledging the fiscal rout he has inflicted on this country. Mind you, the Republicans tried numerous times over the past year or so to enact such a freeze, with the communist party (Democrats) voting no each time.

But I am getting off point. The President has attempted to distance himself from the WikiLeaks attack. This could only be accomplished with the tacit support and silence of the media. He is the President. He is responsible.

Obama had Hillary handle the entire WikiLeak fall-out, despite the fact that it is Obama’s failure and continuing failure.

But it could not have escaped any lucid American that it was Hillary who was targeted in this WikiLeaks dump. How convenient for Obama. His only competition in the communist party for 2012 is Hillary. Period. There is no way Mr. Assange got his hooves on hundreds of thousands of documents from the State Department, etc., without someone at the senior level of the White House and the Justice Department turning a blind eye and a deaf ear. Particularly a dump so unflattering to Clinton. I am no fan of Clinton but that is hardly the point.

This is O’s MO. And he has no compunction taking the Democrat party down with him. Armaros called it “a political suicide bomber. Go down and take people with him for the Revolution.” Make no mistake. Hillary was the target. America’s reputation and hegemony are another Obama casualty. The damage is incalculable. After this, no nation will work with us. No nation will trust us. People on the ground will not put their lives and their families’ lives on the line for so reckless and feckless an “ally.” No one person has done more to jeopardize American lives and make the American people unsafe than President Hussein.

This WikiLeak is no accident, but a play by the revolutionary left that came in with Obama. There is no way one guy leaked all this without the help of very senior people and the Communist infiltration of our government. Will the seditionists be tracked down and prosecuted? Hardly. They will be lauded at White House dinners with $100 Kobe steaks.

The only one that makes sense to me is the one by Krauthammer. It focuses on the issue which is the Achilles Heel of Obama–namely the fact that he sat there toprid and unmoved while we were attacked. Yes. It is an interesting tug of war. The pinkos and bit media want to make Hillary the scapegoat and the conservatives want to brush aside that phony tactic and go for Obama’s jugglar. 39. If this wikileaks scandal is properly framed then it can be cited as one more security lapse by Obama and his keystone cops administration. The funny thing with Gibbs and with jurnolisters like Ambinder is that they may hate Hillary, but if they let their worst instincts prevail it will bit their messiah in the ass. Other jurnolisters do not realize this. They hype this thing thinking that this will destroy Hillary, not realizing that the Repblicans will join in the hype but will aim their attacks not at Hillary but Obama. Oh you have retarded people like Crowley, but the smart ones get this. They will not let the pinkos scapegoat Hillary to save Obama. They want his head on a platter, and if they play their cards right they will get it.

Undrained Swamp Things Give Charles Rangel Ovation After Post-Censure Speech

    By Doug Powers • December 2, 2010 10:31 PM
    **Written by Doug Powers

The House voted 333-79 to make Charles Rangel the first Representative in 27 years to be censured. In congressional terms, a censure is just one notch below expulsion and a half-notch above having to write “I will not be corrupt and I will pay all the taxes I owe” 500 times on the cloak room chalkboard.
Following the vote, Nancy Pelosi read the censure resolution like a Monty Python Spanish Inquisition sentencing Rangel to being poked with the soft cushions.
Rangel then gave what will go down in history as the “old, tax evading congressmen never die, they just refuse to be shamed away” speech. Those words fell on deaf ears for those of us who would be sent to a rent-controlled jail cell if we were guilty of the same “oversights.”
… because the pathetic round of applause Rangel received from many Democrats is proof-positive that the swamp is far from drained — something very unbecoming the “most ethical Congress ever”:

To his credit, Rangel did apologize… for the fact that there are idiots who can’t understand why he shouldn’t be held to the same legal standards as everybody else.

I am not talking about impeachment. I am talking about a show trial which will highlight Obama’s incompetence. That is doable and there is no reason I can see that they will not do it. For one thing, it will make them heroes in their districts, and all politics is local. And I do not think Boehner will discourage it, not after what he had to put up with when Pelosi was in power. The tea parties may light a fire under their ass as well. The bottom line is they desperately want the White House in 2012 and their constituents want blood.

  44. I could be wrong of course. They may turn out to be cowards. But I think you are getting a sense of where things are headed by the fact that McConnell managed to get the weakest of the weak members of his party, i.e Snowe and Collins to sign on to the threatened filibuster to prevent any democrat bill from coming to the floor until such time as the democrats agree and Obama signs a tax cut for all Americans. This checkmates Obama, Reid and Pelosi until such time as the Republicans take over the House in January. Then we may see some hardball.

She sent out resumes cross country, finally landed a job in Chicago, but her boss was a drunk and it was an unbearable situation, for the first time in her life she was terminated for speaking up to HR who ended up being in on the fix. It took her another 6 months to land a job in DC, but by then the fallout from the stress got to her and her depression worsened with the move cross country and it took it’s toll. She couldn’t handle the job, one she was very capable of doing, but her anxiety was paralyzing. How much does illegal immigration cost as far as entitlements go? I have tried to look but can’t find any direct answers. Seems to me that something separate should be set up where billing is concerned. Medicare/aid costs so much so we are told because of the uninsured. Well where is the data? An illegal person is with a child here and pays zero but gets care. A legal or citizen goes to the cheapest doctor she can find and pays for a service. All scripps are free for you if you claim poverty.

Ergo, buy a narcissistic stooge for >$850 million, have him push a pro-corporate agenda including ~$20 trillion to banks and Wall-Street crooks, massive welfare program for “Big Health” and then label him a Socialist. 2010 election, major backlash against the Socialist President and Party and the elites get to pull the 2nd team and put 1st team back in the game. 2012, after Obama, a Dem win is remote; elites fund the Rethug with a billion dollar campaign. End result is accelerating wealth redistribution to upper 1% and the American middle class continues to go into the shitter. For the American Middle Class, the tipping point was the election of Ronald Reagan and voodoo economics. Trickle down, Welfare-Queens, dismantling government oversight of food, drugs, banks, financial industry, etc. and the rise of American fundamentalism as a force in politics. 1976-1980 is the “low point” in the upper 1% share of income and wealth, since then the curve is almost straight up. Unfortunately we are in for economic stagnation and decline for the former middle class and the electoral response will be to elect politicians who work for the 1%. Unlike 1929-1932, there is no FDR or New Deal in my lifetime.

What I am looking for is raw data on what the uninsured legal residents cost as opposed to illegal. It’s all done state by state so it is impossible for me to comprehend.
Also I had no idea that a spouse was eligible for the maximum of social security benefits if he/she had once paid in and the partner had paid in as well. So two people can collect close to 3500/mo even if the one only worked a few years or even months? I can understand a surviving spouse and dependents but a spouse who worked less than 500 hrs getting full Social Security benefits while the partner who paid the tax is alive seems to me to be absurd.

    *********
Possibly but I see Nixon still withing the spectrum of “American Politics” as usual. I am not sure if he was any more flawed, corrupt than JFK or LBJ; at the end he was more mentally unstable. I thought at the time the the fourth estate and exposure had finished Nixon and that beginning the impeachment process was a mistake. He probably should have been prosecuted for any felonies after he left office. In my mind, the behavior of Bush/Cheney probably meets my threshold for impeachment but the Dems. devalued the process with Nixon. Goldwater’s election loss was probably the major tipping point for the Republican Party. It marked the beginning of the end of the R party as the conservative party of business and the emergence of the party of social and religious extremism.

  59. I don’t know where you all are getting your ss #’s, but I can tell you what my dad gets after working for way over 40 years and what my mom got who worked intermittantly which would probably come out to about 5 years. My dad gets 981. per month and my mom got 425. So thats no where near what you guys are talking about.

My husband worked from the time he was 16 til he was 50 and he got social security disability which is about 1700. monthly. If we would have stayed married I would have recieved 1,000. a month at 62 years old on top of his, even though in my career I’ve made more money and paid more in than he ever did.

I don’t see a problem if both partners worked 20 or 30 years….the money should be equal and not based on marriage or sex.

I also can recieve a portion of his social security because we were married 42 years when I retire, which at this rate I won’t….but I’ve told the girls at work to take me hunting if I get too terribly bad and accidently shoot me….LOL! Some of the nurses a cracker jack shots…hunt deer all the time…and I thought I was a tomboy…LOL!

  60. Mrs. Smith,
I found it highly unusual that our DOJ head was in Sweden trying to get the World Cup Soccer match here in America…he should be home prosecuting the Black Panthers…..what I also found rather unusual was that Bill Clinton was there too. hmm, hmmm.

O’Reilly seems to think Soros is behind the Wikileaks….well he didn’t quiet say the name, but we all know Soros and Sweden are like two peas in a pod. Well it fits….he’s trying to eliminate Hillary as a threat.

It’s very weird that Bill C., Eric Holder and Morgan Freeman were all in Sweden right after the Wikileaks story broke!

  61. The worm has turned and the tipping point has arrived. Obama is now generally perceived as stupid. Excuses for the President with a negative learning curve are being openly ridiculed. Obots and the media are being sullied with slurs implying their undying adoration was because they are stupid also. They cannot fight back because it is true. The shrinking PROGRESSIVE holdouts are giving up and reluctantly walking away. The last Obot holdout blogs have been swarmed and the thinning herd of writers trying to prop up the brilliant constitutional scholar and author president theme are being called liars and delusional with demands for empirical evidence that this president is sentient. The days of being called a bigot for suggesting Obama is of average smarts and slothful are over. Where are his school and employment records anyway?

  62. WikiLeaks site down, Assange close to arrest (WikiLeaks: Assange facing assassination threats)

    Source: ABC (Australia)

    Updated 30 minutes ago

The WikiLeaks website has been shut down worldwide, as British media reports Scotland Yard could arrest the site’s founder Julian Assange as early as tomorrow.

WikiLeaks says servers in the United States have killed the site’s domain name following “mass attacks”.

The domain hosting withdrawal means the website is down worldwide. Earlier this week Amazon booted WikiLeaks from its servers.

Mr Assange’s Stockholm-based lawyer Bjoern Hurtig says he will fight his client’s extradition to Sweden in the event of his arrest. “Together with my British colleague Mark Stephens and international experts, we will fight the extradition warrants,” he said.

A WikiLeaks spokesman says Mr Assange has to remain out of the public eye because he is facing assassination threats following the whistleblowing website’s publication of the secret cables.

Either the ABC people are impossibly stupid or they are, in effect, lying to you. I leave it to your judgment which.

Cablegate: 250,000 US Embassy Diplomatic Cables
    2010-11-28

On Sunday 28th Novembre 2010, Wikileaks began publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain. The documents will give people around the world an unprecedented insight into the US Government’s foreign activities.

The 391,832 reports (‘The Iraq War Logs’), document the war and occupation in Iraq, from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2009 (except for the months of May 2004 and March 2009) as told by soldiers in the United States Army. Each is a ‘SIGACT’ or Significant Action in the war. They detail events as seen and heard by the US military troops on the ground in Iraq and are the first real glimpse into the secret history of the war that the United States government has been privy to throughout.

    Video: Collateral Murder
    2010-04-05

WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad — including two Reuters news staff. Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-sight, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

I might add that I am very far from being any kind of computer or internet whiz.

    ————————————————
Jan–I think there is a third possibility here. Just as Obama is willing to play the race card against white Americans, he is willing to play the anti semitic card against Israel on the world stage. In point of fact, he revels in it. It garners him thunderous applause on the world stage from the very leftist dictators he want to ingratiate. You can take Obama out of Reverend Wrights Church but you cannot take Reverend Wright out of Obama. Not much hope and change there.

The more interesting question is whether this revelation do anything whatsoever to shake the faith of the 88% of American Jews who voted for Obama? I doubt it. I think they will support him to the end just as the blacks do. But maybe one or two of them now regret their decision to back Obama over Hillary. Probably not. The trump card is he is black and nothing else seems to matter. What a way to run a railroad.

Interesting. I agree with the premise but my time lines are different. “Nixon was the one” who took us off the gold standard, and while that is one of the battle cries which animates conspiracy theorists and gold bugs alike, I think there is substance to it. The dollar divided six times from the time you were a student at Georgetown and 1985, and the momentum gathered most of its steam under Nixon. Furthermore, the Jesuit scholar said something to me the other night which makes sense in the same context: no war ever starts or ends without the concurrence of the bankers. And that seems to be a constant of American history, going back to the early days of the twentieth century and before that as well. See the comments of General Smedley Butler, Medal of Honor. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori–sweet is it to die for one’s country (or more appropriately perhaps one’s banker).

And that points to one ineluctable conclusion. Obama could have prevented the harm to American security interesting but as with EVERY other crisis, he failed to act. His motive may be debatable, but his serial failure to protect American interests is not.

  68. Let us hope that the democrats who reveled in Obama, were enthralled by his sermon on the mount in denver and wept like babies at his inauguration are having a malox moment or two right now. Probably not. Let the delusion continue on shelter island.

  69. Somebody gave me a book on Goldwater which I never actually read, but gave to someone else. If I had read it then perhaps I would agree with your premise that the Republican Party fell under the undue influence of the religious right during the Goldwater candidacy. I think that phenomenon occurred later in the game. I recall a conversation between Hoffa and Rove, where Hoffa offered Bush the support of the unions contingent on their acceptance of a wish list of union demands, and Rove waved him off saying I do not need your help. I have a much more powerful force namely the religious right. That was when the transition really took effect. To me Goldwater was more in line with the Robert Taft small government wing of the party, to which I owe my allegiance, but was killed off by Bush–and arguably Reagan if you look past his Marcus Tulius Cicero comments about keeping your own tax money and opposing the arrogance of officialdom, etc.

  70. Nigeria: Dick Cheney To Be Charged Over Alleged Bribery Case

This is typical huffpo crap. The wolf is at the door but they refuse to speak of it. Instead they dwell on what happened several years ago, in a forum whose bona fides are questionable. This huffpo crowd are as stupid as they are delusional. Back benchers, including their idiot in chief.

  71. Has she decided enough?

Hillary Clinton said today in Bahrain that Secretary of State will be “my last public position,” ruling out future presidential run.

Andrew Quinn reports that Hillary said she will probably go back to advocacy work, particularly on behalf of women and children.

    …………………………………….

I would not blame her, they don’t deserve her, we need her but they don’t don’t deserve her.

  72. WTF? Not a single plane from the US?

    PTI from Tel Aviv:

The first of 23 international aircraft carrying firefighters, supplies and fire retardant chemicals landed at the Ramat David Israel Air Force base in northern Israel today after the country’s fire chief admitted publicly to have lost control over the blazing fire. The Greek plane, the first of five which are expected from the country, brought much needed fire retardant supplies and additional firefighting forces who will join Israeli fire crews battling the uncontrolled Carmel forest fire. According to the Army Radio, in addition to the four Greek aircrafts, four others are expected to arrive from France, three from Britain, two from Spain, two from Russia, two from Turkey, two from Cyprus, two from Bulgaria and one from Croatia and Azerbaijan each to prevent the fire from spreading further.

  73. Well I am glad that the site has apparently been shut down, but how convenient is it that only the crap on Hillary was leaked and of coarse it was leaked first.

  74. Richard Stengel is the managing editor of Time Magazine. He is the one who suggested to Assange that Hillary would be the fall guy for Wikileaks in the context of a softball question. Take a look at the bona fides of this anti Semite . . . When they speak of ignorant biased editors who corrupt the truth and destroy their magazine Meecham of Newsweek gets too much credit. Oh he is bad alright but this jackass is worse.
    ——————————–
In November 2007, Stengel became the focus of a controversy after Salon columnist Glenn Greenwald exposed a number of factual errors[8] in a column by Joe Klein.[9] Time initially published a subsequent comment as follows: “In the original version of this story, Joe Klein wrote that the House Democratic version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) would allow a court review of individual foreign surveillance targets. Republicans believe the bill can be interpreted that way, but Democrats don’t.” Greenwald noted that the text of the legislation does not require court review of individual targets, and Time’s response, only repeating “what each side says,” disregarded this fact.[10][11] Time later changed the correction, changing “allow a court review” to “require a court approval” and inserting the sentence, “The bill does not explicitly say that.”[12]

Later, in an article titled “Time magazine refused to publish responses to Klein’s false smears” Greenwald reported that TIME “refused the requests of two sitting members of Congress… to correct Klein’s false statements in Time itself.”[13] TIME has, however, told Senator Russ Feingold that they intend to publish his letter to the editor in a coming issue.[14][15]

Stengel is Time Magazine’s managing editor.[16] Deputy managing editor[17] of Time Magazine Priscilla Painton is also involved in the controversy.[18][19]

For only the second time since it was first used in Time Magazine, Richard Stengel approved the changing of the emblematic red border, this time to green.[20] Stengel also approved the use of the Battle of Iwo Jima photo, by war photographer Joe Rosenthal.

The 21 April issue of TIME was entitled How to Win the War on Global Warming, and depicted the Marines raising a Sequoia tree, instead of the American flag. Donald Mates, an Iwo Jima veteran, told the Business & Media Institute on April 17 that using that photograph for that cause was a “disgrace.” Stengel supported the use of the image and exposed his point of view on journalism. “I think since I’ve been back at the magazine, I have felt that one of the things that’s needed in journalism is that you have to have a point of view about things,” Stengel said. “You can’t always just say ‘on the one hand, on the other’ and you decide. People trust us to make decisions. We’re experts in what we do. So I thought, you know what, if we really feel strongly about something let’s just say so.”)”.[citation needed] [21]

The September 13, 2010 issue of Time was called Anti-Semitic by many readers and many national Jewish organizations. [22] [23] [24] [25] The use of a Jewish Star made out of a daisy chain on the cover, along with the unfounded claim that Israel does not want peace, and a series of negative pictures, is being called a hit piece on Israel.[who?] Many readers have canceled their subscriptions and companies that place ads in that issue are receiving calls to not place ads in what is being called an “Anti-Jewish weakly (formerly weekly)”.[citation needed] Full blame is being placed[who?] on Richard Stengel as blowback from readers increases cancellations to historic numbers.[citation needed] On September 2, 2010, Stengel told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program: “They [the Israelis] haven’t had a car bombing in two and a half years. And the sad truth really is that the wall with the West Bank has actually worked.” [26] His remark prompted widespread outrage among many commentators.

  75. I would not blame her, they don’t deserve her, we need her but they don’t don’t deserve her
    —————————————
She knows there is no hope for the Party in 2012. He has destroyed it. It is kaput. She also knows that big media would kill her and drag her through the streets if she were to run. They are far more deranged than Obama, and more anti American. I think she is being practical. Advocacy work is one of her loves. To me it does not matter compared to the larger task of trying to save this nation. It may be too much to ask of any individual in the current milneau. It may be too late. But they will not stop needling her with that question until the body is cold. It depresses me to say this, but the handwriting is on the wall. That is why I changed my focus to saving the country. There is still some hope there–but only a faint glimmer.

  76. So this is her last public position….so Obama has run her out…I just can’t believe this! THis is makes me sick!

  77. Well I am glad that the site has apparently been shut down, but how convenient is it that only the crap on Hillary was leaked and of coarse it was leaked first
    —————————
Connie. We know the game they are playing. We also know this cooks Obama’s goose. The fact that they were able to shut it down now means they could have shut it down before but he failed to act. National security was jeopardized yet again. And whether you attribute that to a pattern of indecision by a weak vacillating figure or a monomaniacal intent to destroy Hillary at the price of his own self immolation, the fact remains this is the tipping point for 2012. National security will be the manta of the Republican congress, and the subpoenas will fly. It does not matter what Meecham, Stengel or the editor of NYT say now. Their credibility is shot and so is the credibility of the broadcast segment of big media. The American People know by now that they are not on their side, and have formed an unholy alliance with the elites who are robbing us blind. And even if that is not true in all cases, it is strategically important to proceed on that assumption, so they no longer bamboozle us. There are a few bastions of truth, but they are few and far between.

  78. Palin is also backing out….WTF is going on…any people that would actually help the middle class are being taken out. It has to be the NWO people.

I bet she is going to retire when she gets back to the U.S. and I don’t blame her. Why should she be the one who has to repair the damage he and Soros did to bring her down….let them do it.

  79. I wonder what the plouffe strategy is for 2012. To put this scarecrow up on a post and try to scare the public into supporting him. They can still field an army, and big media will support them to its dying breathe, but this time that may not be enough to turn the tide. But I could be wrong. If there are enough ignorant people. In 2008 there were, and most of them have learned nothing in the interim.

  80. wbboei, its a different ballgame for Obama in 2012, he cannot use that hopey changey bullcrap, thats dead in the water, economic problems will sink him.

You are right moon. I am taunting the people who voted for him and installed him. It is the way I manage my own grief. We could have had Hillary, and we would not be in this mess.

  82. President Obama lands in Afghanistan on surprise troop visit. Why?

That moron does nothing without any sort of payoff.

  83. wbboei, its a different ballgame for Obama in 2012, he cannot use that hopey changey bullcrap, thats dead in the water, economic problems will sink him
    —————————–
I want to see him have the roughest ride possible on the way out the door. Up to this point it has been a cakewalk for him. And big media will continue to roll out the red carpet. Simply put, by failing to act when he should act to protect the nation and by saddling our nation with inextinguishable debt he has tanked the country. Let that be his legacy. He has cost millions of Americans their future. Let that be what he is remembered for.

  84. After insulting deep-cutting gratuitous comments like this one from Charles Krauthammer, who could blame Hillary for wanting to withdraw..
    ___________________________

“Third, this makes us look bad, very bad. But not in the way Secretary of State Hillary Clinton implied in her cringe-inducing apology speech in which she scolded these awful leakers for having done a disservice to “the international community,” and plaintively deplored how this hampers U.S. attempts to bring about a better world.”

“She sounded like a cross between an exasperated school principal and a Miss America contestant professing world peace to be her fondest wish. The problem is not that the purloined cables exposed U.S. hypocrisy or double-dealing. Good God, that’s the essence of diplomacy. That’s what we do; that’s what everyone does. Hence the famous aphorism that a diplomat is an honest man sent abroad to lie for his country.”

    ______________________

Krauthammer has turned himself into a beleaguered caricature of himself, a joke. Just as his predictions two years ago in support of his hero, Obama forecasting the economy is in recovery.

His latest faux pas calling Hillary’s statement regarding the Wikileaks, a “cringe-inducing-apology” is a sure invitation from Mica, inviting himself back to discuss further the merits of his shameful statement undermining Hillary’s gravitas as SOS on msnbc’s ‘Morning Joe’.

Krauthammer predicted a financial renaissance “don’t worry-be happy” not too long after the banking crisis.

Wikileaks has hinted Bank of America is in deep trouble after taking on Countrywide home loans keeping the loans in-house, breaking banking regulations by not following banking protocols turning the home mortgages over to the Trust and ensuring those home loans are backed by securities.

Furthermore, Bank of America has dropped FDIC insurance from client’s savings deposits. Where is Krauthammer alerting the public they are at risk of losing their savings? Does it take a Rhodes Scholar to see which side Krauthammer represents?

Krauthammer tipped his hand inflicting the lowest form of personal attacks name calling… calling Secretary of State Clinton, the hardest working member of the Obama WH- a ” a cross between an exasperated school principal and a Miss America contestant professing world peace to be her fondest wish. “ When it appears all along Mr. Krauthammer has been complicit in double dealing the public in protecting Banking interests rather than using his economic expertise to alert the public to BOA banking fraud and banking irregularities. Instead, he entertains himself with childish metaphors floating bogus allegations outside the realm of his bailiwick, belittling the only hard working member in the Obama administration Hillary Clinton, doing her job, day in and day out, for the last two years for the good of people worldwide.

We suggest, Mr. Krauthammer, you drop the elementary school rhetoric and just do your job as an economist with a true pulse on what is happening within the banking industry. Try protecting people from bank fraud, losing their homes and their life savings half as well as Hillary Clinton is working to protect America’s interests.

  85. Why is the idiot in Afganistan? It doesn’t even make sense except he wants out of D.C. while this jobs report hits the airwaves.

WH wants transfer authority on appropriations?

    http://hotair.com/archives/2010/12/03/wh-wants-transfer-authority-on-appropriations/

A two-week stopgap spending bill cleared Congress Thursday night, averting a threatened shutdown Friday and buying time for the White House to try to salvage some year-end agreement after the collapse of the budget process.

The action came as the administration sent to the Capitol more than 50 funding adjustments it wants considered as part of what would be a stripped-down appropriations package for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year ending Sept. 30.

Many agencies would be left frozen at their current spending levels, but the documents indicate the White House is seeking more than $11.4 billion in new spending above 2010, chiefly for foreign aid and defense accounts as well as education initiatives and housing assistance for low-income tenants. The administration also wants to a remarkably open-ended authority to transfer funds between accounts — a power that is sure to be resisted by the Appropriations Committee leadership.

This is what’s known as “burying the lead” in journalism. A Republican House will have the “power of the purse” to put an end to executive branch overreach — for instance, the efforts at the EPA to create carbon caps outside of Congressional authorization, the FCC’s attempts to regulate the Internet, and so on. That power is a key part of the checks and balances in federal government, forcing agencies to account for themselves and their behavior to Congress, and putting limits on executive authority to issue orders for regulation without Congressional approval.

  87. Mop, He’s probably out of Coke and needs to resupply Air Force one with it. I just heard they will not meet in person, they are going to talk by video phone….now why fly to Afganistan for a video conference. Fox News is citing the weather in Afganistan is keeping Obama inside his Jet.

OH the lies they expect us to believe!

  88. I think we are just following the script that the “Elites” have written for us. The Dims and Rethugs fan the flames of resentment with their respective bases as a distraction while the “bank robbery” is in progress. The Rethugs wave the bloody flag of the “Socialist” Recovery Act while the big money is looted out the back door.

“Fed report reveals multi-trillion-dollar “shadow bailout”

The US Federal Reserve on Wednesday posted details of its multi-trillion-dollar “shadow bailout” programs, showing that nearly every major US financial institution benefited from billions in unreported government loans.

The data from 21,000 Fed transactions carried out between December 2007 and July 2010 involves eleven special lending facilities set up by the US central bank at the height of the financial crisis to funnel trillions of dollars into large financial companies. The money was lent at close to zero interest with no strings attached. The banks and corporations on the receiving end of the massive bailout were not required to even report what they did with the government cash.
    (snip)
The total in outstanding loans at any one time from the Fed’s various bailout programs reached $3.3 trillion, or more than one fifth of the gross domestic product of the United States. The aggregate amount loaned out, however, is in the tens of trillions. The loans provided by the Term Auction and Primary Dealer Credit facilities alone added up to nearly $13 trillion.

The Primary Dealer Credit Facility, the largest program by transaction volume, made an aggregate $9 trillion in overnight loans to the largest investment banks. The program, which started in early March 2008, made 1,381 transactions, averaging $6.5 billion.

Every major investment bank, including those that claimed to be healthy, used the facility. Goldman Sachs borrowed money from the facility 84 times between March 18, 2008 and November 26, 2008, with the largest transaction, amounting to $18 billion, taking place on October 15, 2008. Its loans under the program totaled $600 billion.
    (snip)
The Journal went on to note that non-bank corporations also dipped into the government till: “The same goes for General Electric, which from late October to late November 2008 tapped the Fed’s Commercial Paper Funding Facility 12 times for more than $15 billion.”

Among the beneficiaries of the Fed’s program were foreign banks, including the London branches of Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch and the US subsidiaries of UBS, Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas.

Among the beneficiaries of the Fed’s program were foreign banks, including the London branches of Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch and the US subsidiaries of UBS, Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas.

The Term Auction Facility, which provided longer-term loans to a broader range of banks, lent a total of $3.8 trillion. The average loan was $900 million.

The New York Times on Thursday noted that hedge funds and big investors made huge speculative profits from the Fed lending programs. One of these programs, the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF), extended low-cost loans for firms to buy securities backed by mortgages, auto loans, student loans and other forms of commercial credit. Among those who profited from such loans, the Times reported, was Kendrick R. Wilson III, a former executive at Goldman Sachs who had been a top aide to Henry Paulson, Bush’s treasury secretary and author of TARP and other bank bailout schemes
(While the Federal Reserve insists that virtually all of the money given to the banks has been repaid, this does not alter the fact that upwards of $20 trillion of public funds was doled out to rescue Wall Street from the results of its own recklessness and criminality, and these virtually free loans enabled the banks to continue their speculative ways and reap hundreds of billions more in profits. No small portion of the windfalls underwritten by the Fed and the Bush and Obama administrations went into the personal accounts of bank and hedge fund CEOs and top executives.

One of the ways the banks profited from the crisis was by using their low-cost government loans to buy Treasury securities, in other words, to lend the cash back to the government at double or quadruple the interest rate at which it was borrowed.

The scale of the bailout reflects the scale of the financial elite’s criminality………

Hillary Clinton says “I think” this will be my last public position, and you all are ready to retire her? OF COURSE if there is an opening in 2012, Hillary will take it. The question is whether there will be one. I don’t personally believe she will challenge BO in the primaries. He either steps aside, or she doesn’t run for POTUS in 2012. That’s the only limited prediction I’m willing to make about Hillary’s future service to the country.

  94. Senator Bernie Sanders on Fed Transparency
    December 2, 2010

On March 3, 2009, at a Senate Budget Committee hearing, I asked Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke to tell the American people the names of the financial institutions that received an unprecedented backdoor bailout from the Federal Reserve, how much they received, and the exact terms of this assistance. Today, a year and a half later, as a result of an amendment that I was able to include in the Wall Street reform bill, we have begun to lift the veil of secrecy at the Fed and the American people now have this information. It is unfortunate that it took this long and it is a shame that the biggest banks in America and Mr. Bernanke fought to keep this secret from the American public every step of the way. But, the details on this bailout are now on the Federal Reserve’s website and this is a major victory for the American taxpayer and for transparency in government.
    www…
    .federalreserve.gov/newsevents/reform_transaction.htm

Importantly, my amendment also required the GAO to conduct a top to bottom audit of all of the emergency lending the Fed provided during the financial crisis to be completed on July 21, 2011 which will take a hard look at all of the potential conflicts of interest that took place with respect to this bailout. So, in many respects, today marks the beginning, not the end, of lifting the veil of secrecy at the Fed.

[…] As a result of this disclosure, other members of Congress and I will be taking a very extensive look at all aspects of how the Federal Reserve functions and how we can make our financial institutions more responsive to the needs of ordinary Americans and small businesses.

What have we learned from today’s disclosure? And, this is based on a 4 hour examination of over 21,000 transactions. We have learned that the $700 billion Wall Street bailout signed into law under George W. Bush turned out to be pocket change compared to the trillions and trillions of dollars in near zero interest loans and other financial arrangements the Federal Reserve doled out to every major financial institution in this country. Among those are Goldman Sachs which received nearly $600 billion; Morgan Stanley which received nearly $2 trillion; Citigroup which received $1.8 trillion; Bear Stearns which received nearly a trillion; and Merrill Lynch received some $1.5 trillion in short term loans from the Fed.

[…] Perhaps most surprising is the huge sum that went to bail out foreign private banks and corporations including two European megabanks — Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse – who were the largest beneficiaries of the Fed’s purchase of mortgage-backed securities.

Deutsche Bank, a German lender, sold the Fed more than $290 billion worth of mortgage securities and Credit Suisse, a Swiss bank, sold the Fed more than $287 billion in mortgage bonds.

[…] I intend to investigate whether these secret Fed loans, in some cases, turned out to be direct corporate welfare to big banks that used these loans not to reinvest in the economy but rather to lend back to the federal government at a higher rate of interest by purchasing Treasury Securities. The Federal Reserve claimed that these loans were needed so that big banks could start lending to small and medium sized businesses that desperately needed money to create jobs and to prevent layoffs. But, instead of using this money to reinvest in the productive economy, I suspect a large portion of these near zero interest loans were used to buy Treasury Securities at a higher interest rate providing free money to some of the largest financial institutions in this country. That is something that we have got to closely examine.

At a time when Wall Street executives are now making more money than before the financial crisis, how many big banks that paid back TARP funds in 2009 to avoid limits on executive compensation received no-strings attached loans from the Federal Reserve?
    […]

  98. US ‘intensively’ working on Mideast peace: Clinton
    (AFP) – 3 hours ago

MANAMA — Washington is working “intensively” to break the Israel-Palestinian peace impasse, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton insisted on Friday, steering clear of Palestinian reports that US efforts have failed.

“The United States is working intensively to create the conditions that will permit the parties to negotiate their way forward to a final resolution,” Clinton told reporters in the Gulf state of Bahrain.

“We are working very hard to do that, and the United States is prepared to play a very active role but ultimately… only the parties can make these hard decisions,” she said.

“We’re not in any way discouraged.”

She said Washington and Manama had a “shared goal of a two-state solution and a comprehensive peace in the Middle East” that would see an independent Palestinian state living alongside a secure Israel.

For weeks, the United States has been trying to convince Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose a new moratorium on settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

A 10-month freeze expired on September 26, shortly after the launch of new peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, the first direct negotiations between the two sides in nearly two years.

The talks ground to a halt after the ban expired and settlement building resumed in the Palestinian territory.

On Thursday, a Palestinian official in the West Bank political capital of Ramallah said “the US administration has informed us that the Israeli government did not agree to a new settlement freeze.”

But Washington has declined to confirm whether or not its efforts for a new freeze had failed.

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas has said he would not return to the negotiations without a new ban on Jewish construction on land the Palestinians want for their future state.

Clinton was in Bahrain to open the annual Manama Dialogue organised by the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday offered her “sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the fires in northern Israel.”

She added, “The people of the United States know all too well the devastation caused by wildfires, and we are fully committed to assisting Israel during this tragedy.”

In a statement, Clinton said that the US was “moving as quickly as we can to provide this assistance.”

Actually, I did not choose to ignore information as you state. The wikileaks website is and was still there at the link I gave. It is not a “bootleg site“ (whatever that might be). It is not even a mirror site (a website reproducing the content of another using another IP address] It is the same wikileaks website that was there before all the hullabaloo.

DNS: What It Is and What It Does
In essence, DNS is simply a database that links meaningful names (known as host names), such as http://www.microsoft.com, to a specific IP address, such as 192.168.124.1.

The World Wide Web depends on DNS for user-friendly navigation. You could get to a Web site by entering the IP address of a site in your Web browser, but remembering lots of arbitrary numbers isn’t easy for most folks. It’s much easier to remember a DNS name for a Web site that reflects its content, such as http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.microsoft.com.

    You said:
“The bootleg site you posted is not the web address of wikileaks.org.”

I posted the IP address of wikileaks. The same one they have had for a long time.

    You said:
“ it is a reassembled web address to access wikileaks if you are inclined to do so.”

A “reassembled web address”? I fail to understand what notion you are trying to convey with those words.

So, as I said, “Either the ABC people are impossibly stupid or they are, in effect, lying to you. I leave it to your judgment which.” For a health professional not to be familiar with DNS and IP addresses is understandable, but these ABC people are supposedly professional journalists.

BTW, wikileaks has a new host name now, wikileaks.ch , so one need not memorize that bunch of numbers if they choose to access the data. ABC has so updated their article in a major rewrite. (.ch is the Internet country code top-level domain for Switzerland.)

you’re so right, Hillary is the only one ready to be leader of this country; but nobody better than she knows that our political system is broken. The media favorite stole the election from her; and now the Fox favorite reality show star is trying to do a job she’s by no means ready to do.Can you imagine how Hillary would feel watching how the media decides who is the president every 4 years? Hillary has no media to be backing her, nor Fox or MSNBC; one is for BO and the other for Palin, and now we witnessed that somebody else wnts to destroy her behind wikileaks? She’s working as crazy for this country, but I think we don’t deserve her! Maybe we have to watch from now on who’s the best qualified to be president on the reality shows “Palin Alaska” or “Obama Illinois”; if I were Hillary , I’ll just wanted to do my job and get away from these media stars! HILLARY YOU’RE JUST THE BEST!

I don’t believe it for a minute Confloyd.
I think that if Hillary had to decide right now, it would be ‘No’ because the Democratic party is still the ObamaParty and she doesn’t want any part of it.

We have a lot of corrupt folks to still vote out, Nasty, Reid, Boxer, etc. before Barry is cut off at the knees. I don’t think she will run in 2012 unless a lot more cleaning up happens by then. I also don’t think the Rethugs will clean up the gov. either. I am hoping they will expose as much corruption in the ObamaParty as possible which might clean things up by 2012, if not, four years of a Rethug president doing damage to the middle and lower class might make Hillary jump back in to the 2016 race.

Hmm, well, I just think that’s a message she’s sending out. “I think” is the two words that help me remain in denial and full of hope because I believed this quote even more from Hillary—(think of wikileaks and her cyber attacks while reading this)

  118. Hillary Clinton ‘regrets’ spying on Ban Ki-moon

Brad Norington, Washington correspondent From: The Australian December 04, 2010

HILLARY Clinton has tried to repair strained relations with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon after revelations that US diplomats were told to spy on him.

The US Secretary of State personally expressed regret to Mr Ban yesterday about the embarrassing disclosure by the WikiLeaks website that US diplomats had a significant intelligence-gathering operation at the UN.

According to US officials, Mrs Clinton stopped short of an apology when the pair met in Kazakhstan at a summit of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The UN confirmed they had discussed “complications” caused by the WikiLeaks revelations.

A UN statement said Mr Ban reiterated his commitment to working “in a transparent manner” with trust and confidence.

He went further in comments to reporters: “I do not believe that anybody would be happy when somebody knows that he or she is under watch by somebody.”

Revelations that the US has spied on the UN leadership and international missions, including China and Iran, surprised few.

But observers are puzzled at the detail sought by the State Department, and the fact that diplomats were requested to gather such information in addition to intelligence gained from agencies such as the CIA or NSA.

Directives issued by Mrs Clinton in July last year, similar to those of her predecessor, Condoleezza Rice, asked about Mr Ban’s management style.

But they also sought passwords and personal encryption keys used by top officials, as well as their credit card numbers, email addresses, phone, fax and pager numbers and their requent-flyer account numbers.

The revelations have prompted questions about whether such activity was legal, considering conventions that stipulate the UN’s premises and correspondence “shall be inviolable”.

The Guardian newspaper reported yesterday that an annual “intelligence shopping list” for the US State Department at the UN and embassies was drawn up by Humint, an arm of the CIA.

A lawyer acting for the Australian founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, continued a joust with Swedish officials yesterday over the validity of a warrant issued for his client’s arrest over sexual assault allegations.

London lawyer Mark Stephens said Interpol had issued only a “red notice” asking authorities to monitor the movements of Mr Assange.

Mr Stephens said his client’s whereabouts in Britain were known to police but remained confidential after “death threats”.

Claes Borgstrom, a lawyer for two women in Sweden who accused Mr Assange of sexual assault, dismissed as “nonsense” suggestions the claims were part of a “dirty tricks” campaign to coincide with the WikiLeaks release.

Mr Borgstrom told NBC News the women had been WikiLeaks volunteers in Sweden and had not known each other.

In the US congress, Republicans and Democrats are set to pass a law in the wake of the WikiLeaks documents making it illegal to publish the names of informants.

Republican Senator John Ensign accused Mr Assange of “creating a hitlist for our enemies”.

  119. I think Hillary is telegraphing that there may be valid reasons why she might not continue to seek the presidency. And who could blame her?

Obama has made such a complete mess of things–is it really worth it for her to have her accomplishments and stature overshadowed by the fall out from his tenure should she run for president again?

I agree with others here though..I think that her opinion may change depending on the political climate and situation in 2012. What may seem bleak now might look entirely different by that time.

Maybe that’s why she said “I think this will be my last public office” rather than “This WILL BE my last public office…”

  120. admin: So you think this could be a play on words here. Public position vs. Elected position? Well we do know that her and Bill are expert with words, I hope your right because I just go so depressed….I mean we’ve all been here since 07′ and to give up now was just a sickening feeling. We all know she’s the only one with the knowledge to get us out of this huge mess and to think we could ever get her in the right position was just unimagineable.

Shadowfax, I remember those words….and that’s what they are doing to her…maybe that’s why she always in the “air”. I think she is fighting a huge cartel that has taken over our country. I thought we’d gotten rid of Pooplosi but she’s made another deal with the devil somehow, I don’t know!

  121. shenanigans,
thank you for the welcome; I’ve been lurking for a while, but I was motivated to de-lurke thanks to your steady support for Hillary and the fact that this site is not contaminated or has become a fan for the Fox reality show star as many Hillary sites have; I hope it continues that way! Thank you anyway!

  122. Just now from National Republican Trust PAC:
…So, instead of passing a budget or making a crucial decision on the expiring Bush tax cuts, they [Democrats]are ramming through the DREAM ACT, a blatant Amnesty Bill designed to provide a pathway to citizenship for “young” illegal aliens. The DREAM Act would legalize illegal aliens who entered the U.S. before the age of 16 and who meet certain educational or military-service requirements. This bill is a scam and is dangerous!
    Here’s why:
    1. The Democrats put a HUGE LOOPHOLE in the DREAM ACT that prevents the arrest or deportation of ANYONE submitting an application. Even if they lie through their teeth about their qualifications. The floodgates will open to Al Qaeda, gang members, and their adult relatives.
    2. CRIMINAL ALIENS ARE ELIGIBLE – yes, you read this correctly. This includes alien gang members, among the most violent of juvenile criminals.
    3. The ACT does NOT require these “young people” to actually get a degree or to complete any military service (and there’s already a path to citizenship for those who serve in the military).

  123. JanH,
That was a cute video….but you do realize most of America believes the republicans are the best at getting the budget in order….that is the real sickening part! THis is what the “lamestream” media does….it brainwashes the public! I think now with the internet, it’s a little harder to do, but still people think its the “tax and spend” democrats.

I wish we had the unemployment numbers to compare on the last 5 Presidents.

  124. I hate what the Øbamacrats have unleashed on America… hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God help us.

I sure hope that Hillary reconsiders her stance on not serving in public office again. We need people like her, even when we may not always agree with her viewpoints. I write “we” because I am not in 100% agreement with everything that Hillary supports, but I respect her, and I know that she is a hard worker, and that she is working for America, and not herself. That’s the opposite of Øbama. Hillary has brains, while Øbama has “himself”.

Øbama, resign now and spare the country another two years of ineffective, bumbling rule! Show some respect for once in your life and do the right thing for the country.

Is it hyperbolic to say the Democratic Party is in the midst of a nervous breakdown? I have been covering national politics since 1988, and I don’t remember a situation quite like this. The signs of a crack-up are everywhere. Democrats still think they can somehow win a news cycle by demonizing John Boehner. Chuck Schumer goes on the Senate floor and suggests Democrats are getting the same political mileage out of “millionaires tax” that Republicans have gotten over the years from using “death tax.” Politico has a story with blind quotes from Hill Democrats who are furious that the White House isn’t using some sort of mythical leverage over Republicans to extract concessions in exchange for extending all the Bush tax cuts — including continuing to try to trade for DADT and the Dream Act (rather than things dealing with jobs). Two members in good standing of the Professional Left — moveon and the PCCC — are spending its members’ money on TV ads demanding that the president exercise this same mythical leverage to stand up to the GOP.

  137. Is it weird for Obama to be granting “pardons” today? According to Fox, he’s granted several pardons today. I thought they did on their way out of office….like in the last few days!

Can it get any freaking WIERDER???

  138. I have heard Sarah say she will run if no one that is ‘right for the country’ enters the race. So, that sounds pretty open to me.

Hillary can say ‘No’ until the cows come home, I will never believe it.
    😉

Hillary has to be our President, no ifs, ands or buts about it.
I will never give up on her…AND SHE DESERVES to be the FIRST female PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES!

  139. “I have heard Sarah say she will run if no one that is ‘right for the country’ enters the race. So, that sounds pretty open to me.”

    ————–
Sorry, but her statement also sounds a little pompous to me.

  140. Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State is “My Last Public Position”

    ———

This is really pretty funny when you think about it.

Every week or few days this is the headlines in some news story. Someone asks, she says, “No”…..everyone talks about it, and media sells papers about it.

A few days later, same story, same answer, same reaction, same drama.

A few days later, same story, same answer, same reaction, same drama.

A few days later, same story, same answer, same reaction, same drama.

A few days later, same story, same answer, same reaction, same drama.

I really wonder what Hillary thinks of this happening over and over again?

She’s our girl, she knows it. She knows we are loyal. She can say no a million times and we will not give up. 😉

  141. Sorry, but her statement also sounds a little pompous to me.

    ———
    I’m just the messenger. 😉

I’m not her supporter, but I do defend her.

  142. “Ms. Palin waits about 10 years to run for the position of potus.”

Yep, and don’t forget, she is a Republican..

  143. It figures, turndown is promoting the wikileaks site with a link to their donation page. I guess, it hasn’t yet occured to her, if you give them your credit card information, they can not only steal your identiy, charge on your credit card, but hack into your computer for all your personal information.

You do know, Assange is a world class computer hacker.

  144. I just want her to go back into politics or good works, whatever and get more experience behind her, not just speech making and television appearances.

  145. He uses airforce 1 like we use a car. The barebones cost? $88,000 per hour. When he was in Kokomo they had to lay off Chrystler for a day. Now it is on to Afghanistan 9 1/2 hours away. He has cost us 50 x what any previous president has cost us. Think about that. He is like a out of control teenager. People need to take the car away from him. Employment is now to 9.8. The upper 1% of tax earners pay 90% of our tax base. The Repbublicans had better hold firm. The low income families pay no taxes now. The Republicans have a small window of opportunity here. If they cave on tax cuts people will be through with them.

  146. The inside word is he went to Iraq today because he knew the deficit commission would not pass. Obama lied and said the private sector had created 150,000 jobs this last month. Now we know the truth. It created only 50,000 jobs. And the government lost 100,000 jobs–including temporary election workers. Futhermore, he knew the decicit commission recommendation would not passed. Time for the messiah to take a brief vacation–in Iraq. He is the most inspiring person I have ever seen. Meanwhile the democrarts are in hog heaven. The republicans had goddam better remember what happened to Bush Sr when he lied and said no new taxes.

  147. Surprised….not, people are realising.

Wikileaks: Obama’s War On America, Target Hillary Clinton

What a perfect way to bring down Hillary. I am no fan of Clinton, but that is hardly the point. Obama means to destroy Hillary. His man? Assange.

Will the seditionists be tracked down and prosecuted? Hardly. They will be lauded at White House dinners with $100 Kobe steaks.

This is Obama’s MO. And he has no compunction taking the Democrat party down with him. He appears ready to go down and to take the American people with him, in service of his revolution. This WikiLeak is no accident; it is, rather, a play by the revolutionary left that came in with Obama. For America’s reputation and hegemony are another casualty of Obama’s WikiLeaks disaster. The damage is incalculable. After this, no nation will work with us. No nation will trust us. People on the ground will not put their lives and their families’ lives on the line for so reckless and feckless an “ally.”

Who is paying for the WikiLeaks state-of-the-art servers, housed in nuclear bomb shelters? Has anyone checked to see if it was Obama’s puppetmaster, George Soros?

The Telegraph reported that Assange was “warned by ‘inside sources in the White House’ not to return to the US as he could be arrested….US government insiders had informed him about discussions to charge him as a co-conspirator to espionage.”

  148. Obama lied and said the private sector had created 150,000 jobs this last month. Now we know the truth. It created only 50,000 jobs. And the government lost 100,000 jobs–including temporary election workers

January will be a unemployment blood bath. All the seasonal temps that have been hired will be pink slipped.

I figure most people know that.

Aside from the part about using your credit card number to hack into your computer.(!)

(No, Mrs. SMith, I’m not “promoting” them.)

  150. You do know, Assange is a world class computer hacker.

    ———
Nope, the hackers are the good guys with skills that don’t hurt anyone, the ‘crackers’ are the bad guys, but Assange is just a fruitcake, with or without skills. He may just be the jerk that was given info and he had has own agenda and published it.

January will be a unemployment blood bath. All the seasonal temps that have been hired will be pink slipped.
    ——–
Yup, Jan though tax refund time is normally bad, but this coming Spring it will be more like a DEPRESSION.

  152. But don’t worry, all the folks who’s unemployment have run out can just beg on the street corners so the Rethugs can ‘save’ tax dollars when they refuse to pay their fair share with all their tax breaks and loop holes.

Seeing unemployment as a handout is a crock. If there were jobs for the masses, that would be a different story, but to think everyone is too lazy to work is an insult to the working class.

Funny how all the folks on Fox that scream the top 2% should get Bush tax cuts too, are ALL WEALTHY. They don’t employ anyone, but try to say that the multi rich are all employers holding back jobs.

I don’t think the poor should steal from the rich, I think everyone should pay their fair share with NO LOOP HOLES for the rich or anyone else.

  153. Assange is connected to Soros. Norma Desmond found the bridge and made the connection. Why do you think out of the millions of documrnts he targeted Hillary. He is a paid hired gun. I wouldn’t trust him or any of his employees, as far as I could throw em’.

  154. Did you all see this? Pathetic.. Firedoglake saw enlightenment, is it the Crooks and Liars turn? Look at them begging. Comments want Obama primaried as well. But these fools will go for some other nincompoop like Dean or Feingold next time around. They are not smart.

    http://crooksandliars.com/brad-reed/dear-democrats-please-please-please-dont

That does it. Obama needs to face a strong primary challenger. And no, I don’t care if it costs the Democrats the White House in 2012. Obama had a golden opportunity to have an actual victory — the first he’s had since he killed that fly back in 2009 — and he’s flushing it down the crapper. We cannot have this guy representing us anymore. He is too weak to lead.

  155. More on the Insider:

by Ulsterman in History, December 3, 2010

Our third installment to the latest D.C. Insider interview discusses whether or not Hillary will actually run in 2012, who Insider fears most from the prospective list of Republican candidates for president in 2012, and a shocking story of Michelle Obama’s seeming racism.

    Continued from part II:

…I will share that story, huh? I don’t know what has gotten into you – why you are so much more aggressive here. Don’t know if I should laugh at you or be pissed at you. At least you’re keeping me interested. Got that going for you anyways.

How about we talk Hillary. You still think she is gonna make a run in 2012? She’s repeatedly said that is not a consideration for her. Of course that is what she is saying. That’s what any politician says. Nobody is supposed to look like they want to run for president until they are actually runnin’ for president. Yes, the Clintons are very much sizing up a run. The situation is always changing under their feet – the polls, the midterms, all of that makes things difficult to figure, to-to, to try and determine how one could go about it. I’ll say this for certain – absolutely certain here…yes, the Clintons want in. They want the White House back. The other thing I know is that the Obama people have known this for some time. They offered her the VP spot – Clinton let them hang out there a bit then turned them down. Since then the White House has shifted into a more attack mode. They are gonna take her on. Gonna cut her off at the knees if they can. Not sure how, but that is the tone coming from the Obama people now. We gotta eliminate the Hillary threat. That’s part of why Rahm left, why he left the White House.

Emanuel? He left because of Hillary? No, not because of Hillary…because of what the White House was engaged in. The word I got back was Rahm wanted no part of it. Loyalty maybe? Well, this was just another example of Rahm going opposite the current there at the White House. Him and Michelle were not getting along, and Jarret was pushing him gone. He coulda fought back – he’s as tough as they come. In the end he just said, basically said – I’m outta here. Course, lots of them have been saying that at the White House for months now, right?

So how could the Obama White House eliminate the threat of Hillary Clinton running in 2012? Don’t know. They are up to something, but whatever that is, they have managed to keep a lid on it, and that’s tough to do. That tells me its gonna come down quick. To catch a Clinton unprepared is no easy thing. And frankly, I’m not so sure that -expletive- White House is up to the task. They might just find themselves on the receiving end of a classic Clinton ass kickin’. God willing! Whatever the White House is up to, it’s gonna come soon against Hillary. We are at the end of November here, right? I’d say by early spring, we’ll know what it is – we’ll see something hurt Hillary’s ability to run in 2012. And then we should see, what I know about the Clintons…we should see Hillary give as good as she got.

And what about the Republican side? If Obama gets the nomination –

(interrupts) No guarantee on that – he’s gonna have a fight. Somebody in the party is gonna challenge him.

Right – right, but assuming Obama gets the Democratic Party nomination, who would he fear most from the Republican side? Will they pull another McCain the Campaign tactic? Are they going to try and pick the Republican’s nominee for them? Is that a rhetorical question there? Of course they are gonna do that! That’s what I just said! They are already trying to line it up.

So who does the Obama people fear most? Obama.

What? That’s the most honest answer at this point – they fear Obama the most. Can the guy keep it together long enough to run in 2012? It’s not looking so good right now, is it? The guy is losing it. I’m certain of it. The guy is barely holding onto his, – to everything around him right now.

Let’s keep it on the Republican side of things though. Who does Obama fear most as a candidate? I would wager it would be the candidate they are not even aware of yet. Some under the radar individual who will rise up quick and powerful, and make it hard to prepare ahead of time. Like Obama did in 2007. The Republicans were not prepared for Obama. Everything was gunnin’ to take down the Hillary campaign.

Sarah Palin? Could Palin defeat Obama? Anything is possible. Anything – the way things are going with the economy, if the economy doesn’t improve – you could take on Obama. Even if you weren’t born here, right? That’s not a requirement for the job anymore. (laughs)

So Palin – realistically, could she win? Look, if I was runnin’ the show at the RNC – mercy, I would not want a Palin campaign. If I was Obama, I would welcome it. You’d have a little better than fair chance of winning re-election without much of a sweat. Palin would re-ignite the minority vote – the people who stayed home during the midterms. The young vote, the young voters, they would be out in full for Obama again. If Palin wins the nomination, and if – big IF, Obama gets the nomination, Obama is re-elected.

Romney? Now that is one that is harder to peg. First, could Romney even get the nomination? Will the extremists in your party allow it? Can they get by the Mormon thing? Normally I would tell you no -expletive- way. Is the South gonna vote for a Mormon? Hell no. Hell no! BUT, we might be seeing a shift here based on total mistrust of Obama. Those same voters, if they are given a plate of Romney or a plate of Obama are gonna go with Romney. And then Romney – he don’t scare the people, some of the people, so much as Palin does. He might pull of the Independents. If he can do that, Obama’s in trouble.

Who would you rather see as the next president – Mitt Romney or Barack Obama? Hillary Clinton.

That’s not a choice. There’s always a choice, and that would be mine.

Mitt Romney or Barack Obama? Those are the choices. Who would you choose. As a lifelong Democrat, who would you choose between those two? I may not vote. For the first time in…a hellevu long time, I might just not vote. Or maybe I write in Hillary Clinton. No – I write in Bill Clinton. (laughs)

Pick one or the other. Romney – or Obama? …Romney.

Really? You’ve grown that dissatisfied with Obama? You’d pick a Republican over Obama? Romney wouldn’t…I disagree with a lot of his positions, actually – maybe not as much as you might think, but Romney – he won’t destroy the country. Obama…I’m not so sure. Can we handle another four years of Obama? After what we seen with the first two? The -expletive- mess of these first two? I don’t think so. I won’t be a part of that. Not this time.

Now to that story – Michelle Obama. I want you to share that story – say it just like you did before. Can you tell me why you think it’s important to any of this? I don’t think people – I don’t think too many people would be surprised by it. Surprised by who Michelle Obama really is…

I don’t agree with that. I think it gives some important insight into how this White House thinks. You said before the First Lady’s influence is significant in the administration, right? Sure – something like that. Sure…

If you had a story like this about a top adviser to the president, it would be important. If this is how they think – how they see the world, it would influence the advice being given to the president, right? I see the point, I just…it’s a stretch, ok? A big -expletive- stretch, and I don’t…that story was not to be a part of this.Fine. Ask the question. I’ll answer it. What?

Ask the question. I answer. It goes in this article. You tell the Michelle Obama story. Done.

    Really?

Really – ask the question. You might want to think that over a bit…

(Interrupts) You made the deal. I took it. Don’t break the deal. Ask the question. Let’s go. Wow…ok. Ok. So, did – did that cop, did he really pull the gun on you? …You really gonna put this in the piece?

Finish the question. I’ll answer – then it’s your turn. So…did the he pull that gun on you? The cop – did that really happen?

He was the chief of police. No, not quite like that. He said he wanted to – he threatened to.

And you took the whole department down, didn’t you? The whole thing – you replaced them all. And he went – the cop, the chief, he went to jail over that?

Yes – not jail. The department was gutted. Every last one of them but two. And the chief, no jail. He was found guilty. Fines, restitution…very serious. He was stripped of everything. 14 years of corruption. One year of justice. It was a long time coming.

You really gonna leave this in here? You gonna…this is going to stay? You really wanna do that? Just to print the First Lady story?

That’s the deal – now it’s your turn. How’d you put it? …Time to put yourself in the room. Right there with me, now. Just like you told it before… Ok, if that’s what you want. I don’t think it’s has much to do with anything, but if that’s how you want it.

It’s August, I’m on the ground in Virginia. Michelle Obama has done a campaign stop there. It’s after the speech. Good crowd – good turnout. I’m working my ass off. We need Virginia, right? It’s crucial to get Virginia. The internals are looking good – but we got a couple months left of hard-hard work. It’s after – what you might call the meet and greet. Lots of money in the room. Big players. The First Lady – she’s not yet, but call her, I’ll just go ahead and call her that ok? The First Lady is in the reception room with another younger woman, tall, she’s Black. Seen her from time to time before. The guy – the First Lady is also talking with a Black man, about her age. Don’t know him. Now normally in these events, these kinds of things, you want the campaign going out and shaking hands, posing for photos, all of that sh-t that nobody really wants to do but it’s politics. Gotta be done. On this day, the First Lady IS the campaign. She’s the show. A sh-tload of money was raised that day. I still can’t believe the amount of money that poured into that campaign…

I understand – but it’s important. It goes to the character of these people. To this White House. You realize it puts me in the room right? Puts me right there in the -expletive- room!

I appreciate that, I understand your concern. Oh do you? Yeah, that concern is just rolling off of you! (pause) Tell you what. How about you tell me about the police department thing? Make it part of this. How about we put you “in the room” too, huh? You willing to do that? You wanna go there – I’ll go here. Sound fair?

The police – the news story? In the room? Yeah – in the room. You wanna put me there, you can join me. Seems the fair thing to do, huh? Let me ask you about it, you answer it, and put it in this article. (pause) Not so comfortable doin’ that now are you?

So I’m coming into the room, I got some longtime party supporters with me. These people go waaay back. They wanna meet the First Lady. Mrs. Obama. Now this guy has been with us for years. He has raised all kinds of money – was great for us during the Clinton campaigns. Solid guy. Real salt of the earth, you know? Good people. Real good people. He was pushing 80 at the time – since passed away. Anyway, I am bringing them into the room to meet the First Lady. I figure someone who bought four tickets to a $20k a plate fundraiser deserves a little handshake and thank you from the campaign, right? So it’s the old man, his wife, a daugther-in-law, and a grandson, and I’m bringing them into the room to meet Mrs. Obama. Now I gotta tell you, these are good people, but they don’t fit in with the political cocktail crowds, right? That’s just not who they are – and they don’t pretend to be. So they look a bit out of place in this environment. The old man was…on the heavy side, has a bad hip from shrapnel during his military days. The other three, God bless ‘em, don’t look all that much better. They have as much money as anyone in the room most likely – you would just never know lookin’ at ‘em.

So I get up to the First Lady. She ignores me. I clear my throat a bit. No response. Finally I say “Mrs. Obama?” And she finally turns toward me, but kinda looks right through me. I’m not really there. Then she lifts up her eyes – her eyebrows like she does, and says – makes a kinda “hmmm” sound. I’m nervous. I’ve played cards with a president and this lady is making me nervous. So I introduce her to the old man and his family. Now the old guy, he’s sweating like a fat Elvis, right? I mean it’s pretty bad. But he’s all smiles – they all are. They are all very excited to be meeting the First Lady. The old man, he holds out his hand to shake Mrs. Obama’s hand. His hand is just sitting out there – he’s holding it out there. The First Lady gives this tight smile, not a real smile, but like she just caught a whiff of something that smells real bad – that’s how she looked. And she takes her hands, both her hands, and puts them behind her. Almost jerked them back. It was -expletive- horrible. ‘Bout the rudest -expletive- thing I seen. The First Lady, she gives a real brief, real quiet, “Nice to meet you – thank you. Thank you for the support. Thank you.” And that’s it. She turns back around – and I hear the guy, the Black guy she was speaking with, snort. He gives out this snort, like he just saw something real funny. I look down and the old man…he still got his hand sticking out, and he’s looking a bit confused. Like he’s not really comprehending what has just happened. His wife though, she’s all out pissed. I can see it building in her, and I’m thinking “Oh sh-t”, I gotta get these people out of here or I’m gonna have a situation and it’s gonna come back to bite me – hard. I’m smiling and gently walking them back out of the room, and I can feel Mrs. Obama and her friends, or whoever those people were, I can feel them watching us walking out. I get ‘em out to the hall and tell ‘em I’ll be right back. I’m going back in the room to explain to the First Lady who these people are – how much influence they really have in certain parts of Virginia. So I’m heading back in, right? Michelle Obama is still standing in her spot, with those other three people, but I can tell they are laughing at something. She’s got her hand up to her mouth like she’s trying not to laugh too loud. I get close enough to be able to hear what they are saying – what Mrs. Obama is saying…

And what did you hear? Go ahead – tell what you heard…

Yeah-yeah…ok, gotcha. But I wanna clarify one thing here – I wouldn’t call it racism. What I heard her say, not so much racism. I’d call it…hell, I don’t know…classism. Is that a word? Not so much racism but classism.

That’s fine – just tell what you heard…

Well I’m just a few feet away. I can hear them still laughing, trying not to laugh, anyways. Now I’m to the First Lady’s…I’m farther on her left side. Well she looks over her right shoulder, back the way we had left the room- me and the old man and his family, she’s lookin’ back that way with her hand over her mouth. She can’t quite see me…and she says, what…she says, “Oh my God, I don’t think redneck is contagious but I wasn’t about to find out!” And then they start up laughing again. Now I’m standing there in a bit of shock. Not sure what to do, if anything. Now I’m pissed, right? But do I confront the wife of the candidate? That’s not…that’s a scary prospect to be considerin’.

So what did you do? Nothin’. I walk out. I just -expletive- walk out.

It bothered you. It still bothers you… Hell yes it bothers me! That man, God rest his soul – that man was a war veteran. That man was an important area businessman who had been very-very good to the party for many years. His business employs…hell – a hundred, two hundred, three hundred people? People have sent kids through college for years on his dime, right? Like I said, he’s – he was, good people. He didn’t – his family didn’t, they didn’t deserve that kind of treatment. Nobody does. And this is the woman who has the ear of the President of the United States? This is the woman who is telling the country, what…to eat its -expletive- vegetables while she probably mocks the ones who are growing those vegetables, who are delivering those vegetable, who are selling those vegetables? …She’s a classless high class bi-ch. That’s who this country’s First Lady really is. And the administration, the Obama White House, the Democratic Party, MY party, it’s now controlled by people just like her.

But you stayed on – even after you saw that, you stayed on with the campaign?

    Yeah…I did.

    God help me, I did…

It’s no surprise to me that MO might be like this.

  156. Palin would re-ignite the minority vote – the people who stayed home during the midterms. The young vote, the young voters, they would be out in full for Obama again.

Hey, I could have told them that.

  157. Obama grandstanding in A-stan.

    Reminds the troops:

“Did you notice, I froze pay raises on Federal employees and because of the jobs you do, the military is exempt.”

none of the troops applauded or cheered the announcement.

    Then the boob does this:

    Obama forgets the Coast Guard

President Obama needed a little help from the troops in Afghanistan on Friday as he thanked the military branches for their work but forgot to mention the Coast Guard.

“I think we’ve got every service here tonight,” Obama said at Bagram Air Base. He then called on the branches as their members cheered: “We’ve got Army. We’ve got Navy. We’ve got Air Force. I think we may have a few Marines around, too.”

Obama continued, “And a whole lot of folks from the 101st Airborne Division, the Screaming Eagles.”

Moving to his remarks, Obama said, “Now, here in Afghanistan …” Then, someone in the crowd shouted out, “Coast Guard!”

“Coast Guard?” Obama repeated. “Is that what I heard?”

After several seconds of nervous laughter among Obama and the troops, he continued with his remarks. “Here in Afghanistan, all of you are part of one team,” he said. “Serving together, succeeding together.

  158. That insider story on MO is somehow believable. Makes you wonder if there really is a whitey tape somewhere. The things they did to elect this man, unbelievable.

  159. His 20+ year old speechwriter didn’t know there was coast guard there.. if he had put it in, Obama would have read it and not got into this sticky situation. It is all the fault of the speechwriter, off with his head!

  160. Uhoh…the Bots are going to freak. Howard Feinman calls Obama Bush’s “bland” third term.

WASHINGTON — Sometimes there are days here that sum up the state of politics and the condition of the country.

Today is one: While Democrats in Congress fight a rear-guard action against $700 billion in new tax cuts for the rich, and the city frets over the $14 trillion national debt, and officials announce that the unemployment rose to 9.8 percent, President Obama is gone — off in Afghanistan bucking up troops in an admittedly unwinnable war that is now the longest and costliest (perhaps $2 trillion, depending on your math) in our history.

No one moment has more vividly demonstrated the predicament the president is in as a result of having accepted the basic fiscal and military parameters of the presidency that preceded him.

Accused of being a radical by the right, Obama in fact has allowed himself to be trapped, with a few notable exceptions (health care and food safety being two), in a slightly more bland rendition of a third Bush term.

The Obama administration is crowing about TARP bailouts — a Bush-era invention. It has committed to staying actively involved until 2014 in the war in Afghanistan — a Bush-era invention. And Team Obama refused to threaten an all-out fight against a top-end income tax-cut — a Bush-era invention.

The inevitable result: 21st century economic stasis and more runaway increases in federal debt — two more Bush-era inventions.

It’s laudable and necessary for the president to visit the troops at this time of year. He specifically wanted to thank those involved in his surge there, and he brings with him the fervent thanks of all of us. Their sacrifice is beyond the imagining of most of us.

But Obama’s sudden trip there, at a time when so much else is under siege here, shows precisely where we are right now. We have a beleaguered president who needs to show that he can command, or at least influence, the course of history, and who in political terms has to show the bravery, guts and can-do focus of the soldiers standing in front of him.

  161. Obama sneaked over to Afghanistan to be out of the country when the bad job numbers hit the news, just like George W. used to make surprise visits to get out of the country when he needed a propaganda boost.

HillaryClinton dot com is sending out emails selling dvd’s of HRC’s speech in 2008 to retire the rest of her debt.

    shenanigans,
thank you for the welcome; I’ve been lurking for a while, but I was motivated to de-lurke thanks to your steady support for Hillary and the fact that this site is not contaminated or has become a fan for the Fox reality show star as many Hillary sites have; I hope it continues that way! Thank you anyway!

Clinton Expresses Concern Over Network Sharing

By JULIAN E. BARNES And MARGARET COKER

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, addressing security concerns raised by the recent leaks of Defense and State Department documents by website WikiLeaks, Friday cited a Bush administration decision to add State Department cables to a Defense Department computer network.

“We are taking steps as I speak to make our networks more secure,” said Mrs. Clinton, speaking at a regional security conference in Bahrain.

The State Department said on Wednesday it was pulling its diplomatic cables from the government’s classified computer system, a move that restricted Defense Department and other agencies access to the reports.

A senior defense official said Defense and State department officials are discussing how best to limit access to diplomatic cables to prevent future leaks, but still ensure military officers can get access to needed intelligence.

Despite that move and Mrs. Clinton’s comments on Friday, Pentagon officials remain hopeful they will be able to continue to allow military officers to access some of the cables, at least those that are relevant to the areas of the world they work in.

In recent days, officials have cautioned that it would be a mistake in the aftermath of the WikiLeaks disclosures to undo all of the steps to promote intelligence sharing.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who was first appointed by President George W. Bush, has praised the improved sharing, saying military officers and intelligence officials are getting more accurate and timely information than ever before. He has said getting a range of information, particularly to military officers on the front lines, has been critical.

While it’s still not clear who leaked the State Department documents to WikiLeaks, an Army private, Bradley Manning, is in custody on charges of leaking other classified documents to WikiLeaks.

At a news conference Tuesday, Mr. Gates acknowledged that the “aperture went too wide.”

“There’s no reason for a young officer at a forward operating post in Afghanistan to get cables having to do with the START negotiations,” Mr. Gates said. “And so we’ve taken a number of mitigating steps in the department.”

But the senior defense official said that the young officer mentioned by Mr. Gates might need State department documents on Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iran.

“The need for sharing that kind of information still exists,” the official said. “Where and how we draw lines is being discussed.”

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal this week, Stephen Hadley, the national security adviser under Mr. Bush, said rolling back intelligence-sharing was a serious setback.

He said the move by the State Department to take its cables off other classified government systems would limit the quality of information other government agencies have in the field.

“The normal reaction will be to pull up and limit distribution of this material within the U.S. government,” Mr. Hadley said. “We’ve made a major effort to get this kind information out to field, to the people who really need it, that will be cut back.”

  168. Feingold is no nincoop. He has principles and he has courage. Unlike Dean who is secretly wired to Wall Street through his family, but pretends to be a populist–where have we seen that one before? Or that crazy loon and surrender monkey Kuccinich. I do not agree with Feingold on a lot of things, but he is definitely on the side of the American People when it comes to resisting the power of corporations. Sometimes. Most people do not realize it but as big of a rip off as obama care was, the financial reform bill is considerably worse. It makes the American taxpayer the guarantor of every failing bank anywhere in the world. In sum, it has the capacity to break us. Feingold and Cantwell were two dims who defied Obama and tried to reinstate glass steegle over Obama’s objections.

It would have been a surprise if she had acted differently. There is no mystery here–with either of them. The whitey tapes, the Black Panther assaults, Van Jones, Reverend Wright, calling every white person who objects to what they are doing a racist– what you see is what you get. I guess it just does not bother democrats or big media one iota. They love their president and first lady and that is all that counts. The party, the country hardly matter when you have got Barack and Michelle.

We have a beleaguered president who needs to show that he can command, or at least influence, the course of history, and who in political terms has to show the bravery, guts and can-do focus of the soldiers standing in front of him.

Wellstone was the real deal. I rode on a Northwest Airlines flight he was on. They tried to put him in first class and he would have none of it. He rode in coach middle seat, and he hung around with working people. Good human being. He was the real deal. An honest liberal. We need honest liberals as much as we need honest conservatives if the country is to survive.

No Howard. You are wrong. Obama’s problem is not that he is beleaguered, i.e. harassed, hemmed in, under pressure. Every president is beleaguered–it comes with the job. He is no more beleaguered than any other president. That is not the problem. The fundamental problem with Obama is he is corrupt, in every sense of the word.

  178. Erickson at Red State

On the night of November 2, 2010, and thereafter, the Democrats kept saying they lost not because of their policies, but because of their message.

They said they just got the message wrong and didn’t explain how they were creating vast amounts of jobs.

Never mind that they weren’t. The unemployment number speaks for itself.

So the Democrats got the message wrong.

Right now in Congress, the Democrats are trying to pass the START treaty with Russia and abandon Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. They are pushing the DREAM Act to allow illegal aliens access to college. Harry Reid is personally pushing online gambling initiatives.

Meanwhile the GOP is trying to keep the government from shutting down and keep the stock market from crashing on December 15th and, once those two are addressed, want to extend unemployment benefits by December 31st.

I guess the messaging still sucks. Maybe the Democrats need to remember that it is, in fact, the economy stupid. And uncertainty over a pending Obama tax hike, including an increase in capital gains taxes, as well as the certain increase in health care costs due to Obamacare will continue to kill job creation in this country.

I’m beginning to think the Democrats just don’t care if we become a giant pool of unemployed wholly dependent on the government for survival.

  179. Meanwhile the GOP is trying to keep the government from shutting down and keep the stock market from crashing on December 15th and, once those two are addressed, want to extend unemployment benefits by December 31st.

Obama may be the least beleaguered President in American History. For a President to feels beleaguered, he has to give a shit about the job and the American people. He may feel petulance, annoyance at the stupidity of the American people who don’t recognize his greatness but beleaguered he isn’t.

A few weeks ago, a classmate of Obama’s at Harvard Law said, to paraphrase, that Obama was an insufferable windbag who felt that the was far superior to his fellow students and the law school faculty. Why am I not surprised.

  182. Obama felt that the was far superior to his fellow students and the law school faculty
    ——————————————
He probably was. But that is a pretty low bar. My late evidence professor who was first in his class at U Chicago in 1958 used to say that if the entire faculty of Harvard Law School caught ptomaine poisoning, died and they replaced them with baboons, Harvard would still have a great reputation for 50 years. The late William F Buckley said he would rather be governed by the first 200 names in the Brooklyn phone directory than by the entire faculty of Harvard Law School. And the Saudis, who have two chairs at Harvard pulled strings to get him in there and get him on the law review/

“Fox News has another ethics problem to not care about.

According to Federal Election Commission records, the congressional campaign of Beth Anne Rankin (R-AR) paid Dick Morris $10,000 for a speech. Morris spoke at Rankin rallies on October 15. In the week following the paid speech, Morris used his Fox News position to tout Rankin’s electoral prospects on three separate appearances without disclosing he was paid by her campaign.

Rankin, who Morris said is “probably going to beat” incumbent Rep. Mike Ross, lost her race by 17.4 points.”

Blame the wind, blame the tide, blame the stars, but by the almighty never blame obama–that is racism. He is innocent even when he is guilty.

  186. Interesting speculation on Hillary 2012 by John W Smart

    http://johnwsmart.wordpress.com/

In order for a liberal to have anything like a real chance at up ending Obama he/she would have to combine disaffected white liberals with black base voters. Without black primary voters all liberals end up with is slightly more than Kucinich numbers. That is all. This would strength Obama, not weaken him.

No, the challenge must come from the middle next time. “Reagan/Clinton Democrats” will be ripe for an insurgency in 2012. These voters are white, working class, often Catholic, and in the suburbs and rural areas. Given a choice they’ll show up in Dem primary to vote for a viable moderate and against Obama. Not given a choice they’ll stay home, then vote in the general for Thune/Rubio or Romeny/Rubio. A Bayh candidacy that does Obama damage in places like New Hampshire early on – and quite possibly Iowa – opens up all sorts of possibilities. Primarily – a re-run of the 2012 Democratic party breakdown. If it becomes clear that Obama can only win primaries in conservative states with a large black electorate, in other words states he has no chance to win in the general, the noise for him to quit will become loud. He will quit, too. It’s what he does. And in 2012 he will not have the free media messaging and the sneaky power of Soros types. Call it revenge of the Moderates. Liberals may have a fit, but as we know now, liberals don’t matter. They’ve been rolled in every way since 2008.

Democratic power brokers looking down the barrel of what could easily be 16 years of GOP White House domination (Marco Rubio will be POTUS someday unless he’s boinking boys on the down low. And maybe even if he is.) will ease or force Obama out. The leadership battle that Pelosi and Reid delayed in 2010 will not be delayed past 2012, unless Democrats are truly suicidal…which is entirely possible. The party needed new faces in the aftermath of the midterms and did not get them.

Clinton then re-enters the conversation in force. A Clinton/ Bayh ticket in either order could be the only thing that saves the Democrats. You think the real money on the Dem side won’t be painfully aware of this? They will be. The Dailykos cabal will be smacked around and put in its place, Obama will be given a nice house in Chicago and a keynote spot, and superdelegates will debate who gets top billing at the convention, Bayh or Clinton. (Sidebar: Huffington is trying to change her spots as I type.) I do think Clinton will run a general election campaign under these circumstances. And she could win, too. Cannonfire is convinced she’s too tainted with Obama’s stench. I don’t buy it. Nobody recovers like a Clinton. Wikileaks has done Clinton damage. But it is not the kind of damage that people vote on. Being off in the State Department has made her – mostly – immune from Obama’s economic malfeasance. Besides Hillary Clinton has had more lives than a cat and Richard Nixon combined.

What could be crushing is the overall dead weight of Obama . Any candidate with a “D” next to their name may be a near impossibility in 2012. Obama is that limp. The GOP will not be nominating a Dole or a Palin. They’ll be smart. Palin has had her general election – it was called the midterms. The fact is that almost no combination will be able to defeat the GOP candidates except Clinton/Bayh. This will be clearer and clearer as 2011 marches on…unless jobs start happening. They are not happening.

  187. Hillary ’12: Democrats’ only hope

    By Reese Palley

    Read more: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/20101202_Hillary__12__Democrats__only_hope.html#ixzz177pgh3MA

Hope has been described as the weakest passion, and so it has been with Obama. It was barely strong enough to lift him to the presidency, but too weak, I am beginning to fear, to keep him there. It looks as if Republican hopes that Obama will be a one-term president are going to be fulfilled. And those of us for whom hope failed must now look about for something and someone else.

Considering the present mood of the country, Democrats will have a tough hill to climb. But we can still hope that two years is a lifetime in politics, and that the majority that was cobbled together for the midterm shift to the right will melt away by then.

But we can’t depend on hope alone this time. In seeking a replacement for the terminally decent Obama, we must look for a candidate with more political savvy. And speaking of the tough hill that Democrats face climbing, who better than Hillary?

As far as realistic politics are concerned, she either learned them from or taught them to a master, her husband. She would have no problem in terms of name recognition. And her own health-care debacle taught her not to push politically sluggardly Americans too far. Her campaign would be able to portray her as a policy expert capable of recasting Obamacare, robbing the Republicans of a potent issue.

So let me be among the first to rally my fellow dystrophic Democrats around a winner from whom the presidency was snatched by an accidental, blind passion. Hillary for president: It sounds pretty good.

Sorry, I went to bed. We are doing fine out here, ready and loaded so to speak. I wil be back your way next fall for a reunion. I hope this winter is kind to you.

  190. John Conyers is a model dimocrat. First, he does not read the bills he votes on. That is understandable since it is white peoples money he is playing with. Oh Asian, Hispanic etc, but that is beside the point. His defense? He hasn’t the time or the attorneys. Besides as Michelle would say it is red neck money so who cares–it might be contagious. Second, he has more important reading material. Like what? Like not Playboy magazine. He reads it on airplanes, in his office and probably the mens room. His defense? The pictures. So how do we get John Conyers to read the legislation he votes on? Simple. If there was some way to take that 2000 page health care deform monstrosity and put it in the pages of Playboy and have Playmates explain the finer points of it to him that would be one solution. Too costly you say? Not compared to the cost of Obama flying around the country to enthrall the 58% of the electorate who voted for him last time and are sure to do so next time as well, even though it is contrary to their interests. They are so manipulable, but perhaps that is what Plato was getting at. Our present concern is Conyers. Nevertheless, he is better than racist Clyburn, who may find himself a target of ethics charges in the months ahead, given his nefarious past practices.

Seriously, lets see how the Clyburn situation plays out. I have no doubt there are other how shall I put it–indiscretions as well. If I were a congressional investigator, that is where I would be digging–unless you believe this man who double dealt the Clintons and the country is capable of keeping his hands out of the cookie jar. If you do believe that then you must also believe in the Easter bunny.

  193. No, the challenge must come from the middle next time. “Reagan/Clinton Democrats” will be ripe for an insurgency in 2012. Wishful thinking I am afraid. The brand itself is no longer trusted. Their only hope is the Republicans will fuck it up. But that will take 4 to 8 years given the Obama disaster. The democratic party is no place for white men thanks to Obama. Most blue collar people I know have figured that out. So have most independents. More evidence of his racism will be forthcoming. I do not believe he can transform himself into a moderate-or someone who cares about the American People. Is voting for someone solely because he is black a form of racism? I think the answer is yes.

Cancun talks start with a call to the gods
    By Juliet Eilperin
With United Nations climate negotiators facing an uphill battle to advance their goal of reducing emissions linked to global warming, it’s no surprise that the woman steering the talks appealed to a Mayan goddess Monday.

Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, invoked the ancient jaguar goddess Ixchel in her opening statement to delegates gathered in Cancun, Mexico, noting that Ixchel was not only goddess of the moon, but also “the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. May she inspire you — because today, you are gathered in Cancun to weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools.”

She called for “a balanced outcome” which would marry financial and emissions commitments from industrialized countries aimed at combating climate change with “the understanding of fairness that will guide long-term mitigation efforts.”

U.N. climate chief Christiana Figueres places a building block in a miniature Mayan pyramid at the site of climate negotiations in Cancun, Mexico, Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. The “Pyramid of Hope” monument was erected by the TckTckTck climate awareness campaign to symbolize the many building blocks needed for a new climate agreement. (AP Photo/Karl Ritter)”Excellencies, the goddess Ixchel would probably tell you that a tapestry is the result of the skilful interlacing of many threads,” said Figueres, who hails from Costa Rica and started her greetings in Spanish before switching to English. “I am convinced that 20 years from now, we will admire the policy tapestry that you have woven together and think back fondly to Cancun and the inspiration of Ixchel.”

Delegates from 193 countries are gathered in Cancun for the two-week meeting, which kicked off today at 10:20 a.m. local time, or 11:20 a.m. Eastern. Mexican President Felipe Calderon, a major proponent of action on climate change, attended the opening.

Two weeks from now, we’ll have a sense of whether Ixchel — and the delegates — were listening to Figueres’s appeal.

WASHINGTON, Dec 4 (Reuters) – Online payment service PayPal said it has suspended the WikiLeaks’ account that the organization used to collect donations.

U.S.-based PayPal said in a statement that WikiLeaks, which this week released thousands of secret U.S. diplomatic cables, had violated its policy. A posting on WikiLeaks’ Twitter page said “PayPal bans WikiLeaks after US government pressure.”

A statement on the PayPal site said: “PayPal has permanently restricted the account used by WikiLeaks due to a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity. We’ve notified the account holder of this action.”

PayPal is one of several ways that WikiLeaks takes in donations to finance its operations.

On Friday, WikiLeaks directed readers to a web address in Switzerland after two U.S. Internet providers dropped it in the space of two days.

The Internet publisher directed users to http://www.wikileaks.ch after the wikileaks.org site on which it had published classified U.S. government information vanished from view for about six hours.

Obama to sign historic settlement to black farmers

WASHINGTON (AP) — Decades-old claims from African American farmers and native Americans that the government mistreated and swindled them out of billions of dollars can finally be settled starting Wednesday.

President Barack Obama is set to sign the bill authorizing payment of $4.6 billion to settle claims that arose in class-action lawsuits.

The White House said the president would sign the Claims Resolution Act of 2010 and make remarks at the ceremony next week, but offered no further details.

The House passed the bill on Tuesday. The package would award some $3.4 billion to American Indians for royalties for resources like oil, gas and timber. Another $1.2 billion would go to African American farmers who claim they were unfairly denied federal loans and other assistance.

The case study is a bitter conflict between the predominantly white IBEW and the Aboriginal Black Men United over the spoils of government work in general and green jobs in particular.

Frankly, it is hard to be sympathetic to either group. One group wants seniority to prevail– uber alles. The other wants racial justice–which means skills do not count. What is clear, however, is neither group is interested in merit, which is the way to control cost and improve the quality of government services. Perish the thought. Taxpayers be damned. Welcome to the glorious age of Obama.

And what of the Great I Am blessed be the peacemakers Obama? If we could get him off the airplane for just one minute perhaps he could make a speech on why we should all just get along, and big media would tell us that he has saved the day. And when the truce ended and they went back to killing each other, big media could do an interesting update on whether Cher and Brolin are on the rocks.
    ————————————————————————————————————-
    The Newest Form of Tribalism
    Labor Union Report

It’s been said that, as a productive civilization devolves, society will become ruled, not by law, but by special interest groups—each competing with one another to seize control in order to feed on the carcass of society. The more a civilization moves toward collectivism and devolves, the more citizenry will turn to tribalism—fighting over, like a pack of jackals, whatever scraps are left (or thrown to it by an all-powerful government). Eventually, society will get to the point that it will be controlled by whichever tribe (or pack) has the greater number, the sharpest teeth, the biggest club or largest gun.

Tribalism, a form of collectivism in its most primitive form, is the natural result of an abandonment of individual rights and the objective rule of law.

If men accept the notion that the individual is helpless, intellectually and morally, that he has no mind and no rights, that he is nothing, but the group is all, and his only moral significance lies in selfless service to the group—they will be pulled obediently to join a group.

It would appear that America is nearing that point now. We saw it with the auto bailouts and the abandonment of the rule of law in order to appease the United Auto Workers. We saw it with the health care fight, as individual rights were traded away for the backroom deals that were cut. We see it with the “rich” vs. middle-class warfare being waged in Congress with the debate over tax increases. And, in the true spirit of tribalism, we’re now seeing it in California as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) fights the Aboriginal Blackmen United.

Just what is the Aboriginal Blackmen United? Well, it’s not a union in the traditional sense. Actually, maybe it is a union in the most primitive sense. The ABU is described as follows:

…a group that’s part direct-action organization, part job placement agency, and all business when its members think employers are abusing their right to work. Its only headquarters is this street corner in front of the Double Rock Baptist Church.

    [snip]

With its 1960s-era Black Power tactics and no-holds-barred approach, it has become the de facto enforcer of the city’s local hiring goals. It is criticized for securing jobs through intimidation and for its narrow focus on its own members, but nobody denies that the ABU gets results.

Behind the Aboriginal Blackmen United is James Richards.

Richards is a big man in his 60s, eyes inscrutable, though seldom seen behind his sunglasses. There’s a marijuana bud on his gold front tooth. In conversation, Richards’ voice can be soft, his responses vague. But when it’s time to make a speech, he can preach social justice with the fire of a Civil Rights–era crusader, railing against chickens**t unions and lying politicians.

When it comes to the so-called “green jobs” of installing solar panels, the non-union Aboriginal Blackmen United are in a heated battle with those “chickens**t unions” (like the IBEW) over their share of the government pie.

Electricians, roofers and other unions are battling over “green collar” jobs that are emerging with the city’s aggressive pursuit of clean energy. In June, protests that led to shouting matches between electricians and other laborers stopped work on a five-megawatt solar power plant in the Sunset district.

Officials mediated that dispute, but the city later suspended about $7 million in similar projects after activists threatened more protests.

“We’re going to protest it every time,” said James Richards, leader of Aboriginal Blackmen United, a group that organized the June protests on behalf of workers from Bayview and other low-income neighborhoods. “We deserve the work.”

The dispute underscores the complexities of how jobs will be divided in the green economy. State regulations provide limited direction for employers trying to determine which workers are appropriate for clean-energy projects.

The above is the essence of tribalism. Special interest groups—tribes—that believe they own the work, regardless of skill, merit, or price. They believe they own the work because they are entitled to it.

They believe they are entitled to it because it’s work being done on their turf—in their state, in their neighborhood, or on their street corner. They believe they are entitled to it because they hold a membership card in a union, or a race card because of their skin color.

This is America’s newest form of tribalism. It is, quite literally, a return of the primitive.

  204. @democrat1, john smart is right. In fact a dream primary will be someone like Russ Feingold (takes the liberal), Obama (the blacks) and Hillary walks in to save the party.. The repubs are no fools, they want to win this time unlike 2008 and they will nominate a strong candidate. Hillary may be the only strong Dem to put up a fight against them (even that may be dicey).
    ———————–
I wish I could believe that. But perhaps I am wrong. I hope so.

I am not sure I want centrists. Too often they have no convictions, other than their own political survival. I want people who believe in something–like maybe the country. As such, I want rational liberals and rational conservatives. If there is any hope for the system, it is there.

  206. Crist was a prototypical centrist. So are Snowe and Collins. They can be had for a price. There is a word for that.

  207. More info about Clyburn’s indiscretions, please. I’ll be watching for his demise after the nasty email I got from him during the dem primaries in 2008.

I have to strongly object to the talk about Rubio on the Presidencial repub ticket in 2012. He hasn’t even gotten to the Senate yet. Have we learned nothing from the Obama experience? Stop with the celebrity tickets. Let’s see if he can actually do anything in the Senate first.

Evan Bayh is an interesting candidate for 2012. Is there any real indication that he’s thinking about challenging BO?

  208. Ruminations and food for thought:
    ______________________

A secondary story about Assange seems to be evolving over the last 24hrs- Whatever arrangement Assange had with Soros appears to have deteriorated to the point of complete collapse. Wikileaks is releasing more damaging information than ever detailing how the US/Obama/Soros manipulated the Climate Accords in Copenhagen. Soros’ name has not been directly mentioned in the Climate leak story but it was mentioned freely in the mainstream msm in real time when the Climate Accords meeting took place in Copenhagen.

The story goes, If I remember correctly, a public release by hackers of confidential e-mails uncovering the cherry picking of scientific data collected by climatologists who then discarded information that would dramatically alter the result needed for proving Global Warming is the result of human interaction with the environment through carbon emissions and green house gases… was the nexus of the leak.

The hackers identity that produced the leak was never made public or not known at the time. I remember thinking how grateful I was this information was released in the nick of time just before the Copenhagen Accords Summit. Hoping this revelation may prevent the scheme concocted by Soros, the Cap and Trade scheme, for placing another tax on US citizens under the assumption throwing money at carbon emissions is the most productive avenue for solving global warming when in fact Soros becomes the most likely benefactor of this egregious mandate.

As this story evolves, it is becoming more complex and convoluted raising the difficulty to get to the bottom of it and the Truth. There appears to be a falling out between Soros and Assange. Thinking, perhaps, Soros never knew Assange/wikileaks was the hacker responsible for revealing the ‘cooking’ of the climatologists results ultimately this revelation of scientific fraud was the provocation for countries taking a step back sensing amiss, rather than signing on to Soros’ scheme, sullying his plans for a global agreement (which btw included the US relinquishing it’s sovereignty) passing Cap and Trade. (We musen’t forget the UN backing Soros’ plan 100%)

What could compel Assange on video reading from a written statement (cue card) leveling charges at Hillary Clinton “demanding her resignation?” And I did notice Assange stuck to his script never elaborating on his thoughts or reasons for the urgency of such a dramatic presentation after the leak was revealed in print. Why the emphasis needed adding to the drama of such a reprehensible charge targeting Secretary Clinton?

Was this part of Soros’ plan to undermine and destroy SOS Clinton’s sterling credibility? Hamstringing her ability to challenge the ONE in a Primary in 2012? It certainly seems like a stealth plan Soros would be indirectly involved in- From past history, we know Soros has an aversion to leaving any visible fingerprints on his handiwork. i.e. crashing markets, bankrupting various country’s currency, bankrupting the Bank of England and for all we know, squeezing Ireland into compliancy using his tried and true formula of devaluating indigenous dollars that bring destruction and havoc to the targeted country. This method of a stealth attack does not leave fingerprints but the end result does leave a paper trail identifying the source in reverse no matter the level of difficulty. Just as retracing steps in election donations.

We do know, within 48hrs of Assange’s announcement he became the most Wanted Man in modern history, more so even than Osama Bin Laden. The video replayed thousands of times in every corner of the world whipping up a frenzied manhunt the likes of which the world has never seen, at least in my lifetime. . Could this be all because of the derogatory statement against Secretary Clinton demanding she resign? Could be- so lets put that thought aside for a moment… (You have to excuse this brainstorming writing style for the moment because the thoughts are just coming to me as I type and assembling them using the proper words not knowing the outcome is the chore I frequently have to endure after reading as much as available on the subject, so bear with me a little longer.)

Reading one of the latest entries from Wikileaks indirectly targets Soros via the Climate Accords in Copenhagen. Is Assange trying to tell us something by this revelation? Has Soros applied undue pressure and influence to Assange using whatever means forcing him to make statements against Secretary Clinton?

You can read the wikileak here… compiling the information gathered so far adding this new information to the mix in a revised conclusion if it helps. The more this drama unfolds, it feels like we are watching an Ian Flemming production of a new James Bond movie.

    ——————
ohhh, if that were only true . . . .

  211. Evan Bayh is the perfect example. He positioned himself as a centrist. He told his constituents that Obama care cost too much. Behind the scenes he was promoting it. Then one day he just declared it is affordable. His polls dropped like a head shot goose. The truth is these centrists do not get to where they are by “believing in ideas, and principles over party”. They get there because they are owned–by somebody. And when that somebody pulls their strings they fold–like Bayh, who is on his way to a Wall Street job, to support his wife who is also a centrist and happens to be an executive with a huge medical care company. I would rather have it all out in the open, where there is full disclosure and an honest competition for ideas. There I go again, getting idealistic. My friend was a right wing congressman. She was pilloried by the Gannet organization every time she stood up for the constitution. She was made to appear stupid–or worse. Then one day, I happened to meet the editor of the particular newspaper at Semiahmoo Golf Course near the Canadian border. I told her I had issues with her newspaper, and that I was a friend of this congressman who is now deceased. She said to me that she had alot of respect for her because she was an honest politician unlike so many others. I asked her why her newspaper never reflected that sentiment. She said because we wanted controversy and needed to sell newspapers (you fool). By the same token I have undying respect for a hard core leftist politician named Zioncheck from our state who jumped out of a window and killed himself before I was even born. He was honest, he cared about working people, he wanted the system to work and the powers that be made him out to be a lunatic. These people believe in something, they are willing to put it on the table. People like Kuccinich are different. They are poseurs of the left. People like Clyburn are just corrupt.

  212. You’ve done it again by emplying that moderates don’t believe in anything, but idealogues do. In actual practice in today’s politics they all act the same, conservatives, moderates, and liberals. Let’s move on.

  213. He’s still going on…..

So that leaves the Dim brass who don’t care about winning, who just want to block Hillary.

  215. ‘Dim brass’ are known to shoot themselves in the foot and elsewhere like we saw in 2008. Imagine what a Clinton/Obama ticket in 2008 would have done and I think Clinton was open to that but nooo, they didn’t want that (of course, we know why) — that idea was too sane and practical for the country and the party (and of course Obama was the wrong guy for that ticket too but we would have gone along).

  216. The Age of the Massively Unreadable. Congressional bills so large that no one knows what’s in them till they’re passed. Leaked correspondence covering years, so much that no one can see the perspective. Cherry pick one or two things out of context to misrepresent — than make some big claim.

Current claim: that Hillary ordered spying. Previuso claim: that climate change scientists are crooks. So, why did Soros create the moon landing hoax?

  223. Obama, economy stuck in a ditch

and whose policies keep it there………….laiden down with bricks.
    **********
Nice summary of the Obama economy:

“The US unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in November, the highest in seven months, and an indication that the economic slump that was triggered by the September 2008 Wall Street crash has far from run its course.

November was the 19th consecutive month that more than 9 percent of the labor force were out of work, the longest span since the federal government began reporting such figures after World War II.

The number of workers classified as unemployed rose back above the 15 million mark in November, to 15.1 million. Of these, 6.3 million have been out of work for more than six months. The average time spent out of work before finding a new job rose to 33.8 weeks.

An additional 2.5 million people are classified as “discouraged” or “loosely attached” to the labor market, because they are not actively seeking work, and another 9 million more are working only part-time when they want full-time jobs.

This brings the total number of people directly caught up in the jobs crisis to a staggering 26.6 million people, some 17 percent of the working population, or one out of every six adults. When their families are included, the total number of Americans directly impacted by mass unemployment is well over 100 million.”
    (snip)
The details of the November jobs report show an across-the-board economic stagnation. Nearly every significant economic sector actually cut full-time, permanent jobs; while there was a net job increase of 39,000, this was accounted for entirely by the 40,000 increase in temporary jobs.

Retailers cut 28,000 jobs in the month leading up the Christmas shopping season, a clear indication that they expect no significant upsurge in consumer spending. Manufacturers slashed 13,000 jobs, construction cut 5,000 jobs and financial services firms eliminated 9,000 jobs. Federal, state and local government cut 11,000 net jobs.

Only a few sectors showed increased hiring: 19,000 new jobs in health care, mainly at hospitals; 6,200 new jobs at private educational services companies, which have benefited from the attack on public education spearheaded by the Obama administration; 11,000 more jobs in the leisure and hospitality industries, which cater largely to the affluent.
    (snip)
Other economic indicators showed a downward trend. New factory orders for October fell by the largest amount in five months, propelled by a sharp drop in aircraft orders. Manufacturing and construction combined have lost jobs for the past four months.
    (snip)
The Obama administration issued a perfunctory statement trying to spin the dismal jobs report as a continuation of economic progress. Austan Goolsbee, the top White House economic adviser, said that it was “important not to read too much into any one monthly report.”

With his base deeply disillusioned, many progressives are starting to believe that Obama has little chance of winning reelection unless he enthusiastically embraces a populist agenda and worldview – soon. Yet there is little chance that will happen without a massive public revolt by his constituency that goes beyond rallies, snide remarks from television personalities or indignant op-eds.

Those of us who worry that a full-scale Republican return to power in 2012 would be a disaster not just for those hurting from the Republican-policy-inspired economic meltdown but also for the environment, social justice and world peace believe it is critical to get Obama to become the candidate whom most Americans believed they elected in 2008. Despite the outcome of last month’s election, it is unlikely that the level of his base’s alienation will register with the president until late in the 2012 election cycle – far too late for society today and our future beyond that.

  236. Snippets from an article on today’s Senate vote on extending the tax cuts:

WASHINGTON – Senate Republicans derailed legislation Saturday to extend expiring tax cuts at all but the highest income levels in a political showdown that paradoxically clears a path for a compromise with the White House on steps to boost the economy.

“We need to get this resolved and I’m confident we can do it,” President Barack Obama said shortly after the near party-line votes. The public must have “the peace of mind that their taxes will not go up” on Jan. 1, he added.

Obama has signaled that he will bow to Republican demands for extending tax cuts at all income levels, and his remarks capped a day that lurched between political conflict and talk of compromise on an issue that played a leading role in last month’s elections.

Officials have said that in addition to tax cuts and unemployment benefits, the White House wants to include renewal of several other tax provisions that are expiring. They include a break for lower- and middle- class wage earners, even if they don’t make enough to pay the government, as well as for college students and for companies that hire the unemployed.

Key lawmakers and administration officials have been at work negotiating the terms of a possible deal for several days.

But many congressional Democrats privately have expressed anger at Obama for his willingness to surrender to Republican demands to let the tax cuts remain in place at upper incomes, and numerous officials said no compromise would be possible until they had engineered votes in both the House and Senate.

In the Senate, a bill to enact Obama’s original position was blocked on a vote of 53-36, seven votes short of the 60 needed to advance. Republicans were unanimous in their opposition, and were joined by Democratic Sens. Russell Feingold of Wisconsin, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Jim Webb of Virginia and independent Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.

The second measure would have let taxes rise on incomes over $1 million. It appeared crafted to appeal to senators from states with large high-income populations, as well as cast Republicans as protectors of the rich.

It was blocked on a vote of 53-37, also seven short of the 60 needed. A slightly different lineup of Democrats sided with Republicans, including Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia and Feingold. Lieberman also opposed it.

The White House opposed the second measure bill, and given the president’s willingness to sign a bill to extend all the expiring tax cuts, there was never any doubt about the outcome of the day’s proceedings in the Senate.
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101204/ap_on_bi_ge/us_tax_cuts

So did the handful of dems who voted against these bills hope to get the additional WH measures included in a so-called compromise bill extending the tax cuts for everyone?
