The Great CamelRot Thanksgiving Opt-Out

Cancel Camelot, enter CamelRot. “Ask not what you can do for your country, demand what your country can do for you” is the poet/Messiah Obama’s slogan in the apocalyptic laugh riot which is America today.

We thought any and all Thorazine delusions which remained post primary season of Obama as JFK ended with a thud soon after his dreadful inaugural speech. We thought any and all acid trips that hallucinated Michelle Obama as a latter day Jackie ended badly at the sight of the inaugural bandage dress. But we are too rational. We are too sober. For those smoking the pipe it remained Camelot, not CamelRot.

We first mentioned CamelRot back in December 2008. Back then we thought a Special Prosecutor could save the nation and we quoted a nursery rhyme “There was a crooked man, And he walked a crooked mile….” So it was with great amusement that we saw today the headline “Michelle Obama’s White House is ‘not Camelot‘”

Now, we don’t know if this is a story which Politico saved for publication on a day few want to do any work. But yes dear readers, it’s not Camelot in that ghoul’s White House. Bear with us as we quote a few lines from Politico‘s brilliantly insightful essay originally written in crayon:

“She has glamorized kitchen gardening, spotlighted childhood obesity and invited thousands of students, many of them minorities, to official White House events.”

“[G]lamorized kitchen gardening?” Really? “[I]nvited thousands” is an achievement? Really? Put herself in a spotlight is an accomplishment? Really? But we are being pedantic. Let’s continue with the masterpiece from Politico:

“There has been no attempt to reach out to people they don’t see as their people,” said the wife of a senior administration official, who doesn’t have Chicago ties. “They don’t reach out to even people in the administration who aren’t from their inner circle.”

“It’s extremely business-like,” she added, before invoking a comparison with the early days of the Kennedy administration. “It’s not Camelot.”

And maybe that is the problem. The return to the White House of an attractive couple with two young children on a tide of idealism placed an impossible burden on both the president and his wife.”

Poor Barack and Michelle. The impossible burdens they bear. Jesus carried a lighter cross. Velma does not know what suffering is. Has the world ever witnessed such suffering as Barack and Michelle endure?

“Because of the campaign, people expected Obama and the first lady to revitalize some of the glamour of the White House and bring Camelot back to Washington,” said Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University who has studied recent presidencies.

“But the realities of Washington make that difficult. We’re in an era where it’s hard to recreate Camelot. People are increasingly cynical about politics and it’s really a partisan world. I don’t think either party would allow the president of the opposite party and the first lady to enjoy that kind of existence.”

One telling indication of that reality: In the first few months in the White House, the Obama’s hosted half a dozen cocktail parties to get to know members of Congress. As the health care debate became more heated last spring and Obama became more of a Republican target, the cocktail parties were abruptly ended.”

Has there ever been such suffering? Compose yourselves dear readers as you learn of the sufferings Michelle carries on her very broad shoulders. In fact, take a break. Walk to your serenity room and light incense on your altars to Barack and Michelle. Take some deep breaths. ShamWow those tears away. Here’s a musical intermission to provide time while we all regain our composure:

Having dabbed our tears away, we may now proceed to bear witness to the sufferings of Michelle on the Cross:

“To be sure, the first lady has made a concerted effort to establish “the people’s house” by inviting thousands of guests to cultural shows at the White House including jazz, classical and Broadway performances. She also opened up “the backyard” to host a series of sports clinics and other outdoor activities to promote her “Let’s Move!” initiative and held more than a dozen events in her kitchen garden, which has garnered worldwide attention and praise.

And she and her husband have hosted Super Bowl parties for administration officials and members of Congress (and their families) on both sides of the aisle.

In 2009, according to a White House aide, the visitors office delivered “record breaking attendance and welcomed more guests than any year post 9/11″ with more than 600,000 people. In 2010, the aide pointed out that the office has already exceeded 2009 numbers.”

How can any other work get done when the staff has to prepare for so many parties and cope with Michelle’s tears at the same time? Such suffering! Such gallantry! And meanwhile the ungrateful and dreary jobless think only of themselves and not the travails of Barack and Michelle!

“And now with advent of the holiday season, the first lady is ramping up the social calendar, hosting more than a dozen parties for Congress, administration officials, press, military families and wounded troops as well as civic, faith and business leaders respectively.

“We plan on welcoming over 100,000 guests in December alone and our total guest count is projected to be slightly over 800,000,” the aide said.”

No more, please. We cannot bear to hear of the hardships any more. How can so much sacrifice come from just two people and their hundreds or thousands of staff people? We require another break to contemplate the suffering and our ingratitude. We’ll be right back.

We’re back, with dried tears, and quivering lips. More suffering from Michelle:

“Last summer, the first lady vacationed in Spain with her old pal Anita Blanchard, whose husband Marty Nesbitt is the president’s close friend. Chicago friends Eric and Cheryl Whitaker have joined the family on vacation in Hawaii and even at the president’s Nobel Prize ceremony last year.”

Perhaps we have been wrong. We had no idea life was so tough for Barack and Michelle. Perhaps we have been wrong. We just did not know.

For 500 years Michelangelo’s hidden image of a human brain on the Sistine Chapel remained a secret. But that centuries old secret pales in comparison to the secret torments of Barack and Michelle. What a revelation we have all unsealed today thanks to Politico!

Thanks to the Onion, usually a satirical multimedia organization, we can now more fully appreciate the genius of Barack’s genius. He’s a genius. When once we would have mocked the lugubrious drone of indecision; celebrated the growing awareness of the vapidity of the river of words; now we see the genius as “Obama Outlines Moral, Philosophical Justifications For Turkey Pardon“.

What American cannot sleep soundly knowing such a man, along with such a woman, reside in the White House?

What American, prepared to be groped on their way to Thanksgiving Day celebrations, secure in the knowledge that the privileged in government will not be subjected to indignities, does not feel something swell within them at the thought of such historic leadership?

Of course there are malcontents. This lot demands respect and has launched something called “National Opt Out Day“. They are not content to bow before TSA Chief John Pistole even as he warns the nation’s air travelers “against protesting the intrusive groping procedures now used at airports.

The disgruntled, willing neither to be radiated nor groped are planing to protest:

“Holiday travelers dismayed by airport body scans planned protests at bustling airports Wednesday, while the head of the nation’s transport security agency urged passengers to comply with searches to reduce the possibility of delays on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

A loosely organized effort dubbed National Opt-Out Day plans to use flyers, T-shirts and, in one case, a Scottish kilt to highlight what some call unnecessarily intrusive security screenings. [snip]

Robert Shofkom wasn’t too worried about delayed flights, maybe just strong breezes.

The 43-year-old from Georgetown, Texas, said he planned for weeks to wear a traditional kilt — sans skivvies — to display his outrage over body scanners and aggressive pat-downs while catching his Wednesday flight out of Austin.

“If you give them an inch, they won’t just take in inch. Pretty soon you’re getting scanned to get into a football game,” the IT specialist said. [snip]

One Internet-based protest group called We Won’t Fly said hundreds of activists would go to 27 U.S. airports Wednesday to pass out fliers with messages such as “You have the right to say, `No radiation strip search! No groping of genitals!’ Say, `I opt out.'”

How can anyone “Opt out” of this Camelot we inhabit? How can these “Opt Out” ingrates not realize the torments Barack Obama and Michelle Obama endure every moment? They think only of themselves.

As we all prepare to celebrate the blessings of liberty tomorrow, we should all remember the character and content of the occupants of the White House.

We’ll continue to “Opt In” for freedom and liberty and the right to speak out.

Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to all.

  1. Things congressmen should never do in public #102 Read porn on a plane

    Mr. Smut Goes to Washington

While November’s election brought a tsunami of change to Michigan policies, some incumbents are untouchable. So untouchable, apparently, that they openly read girlie magazines on their trips to and from Washington, DC. Detroit Congressman John Conyers was caught on film in a late July flight this year perusing a Playboy magazine on a trip from Detroit to Washington.

The video and pictures – first posted by ex-Detroit News reporter and New York Times Pulitzer Prize winner Charlie LeDuff on his Facebook page – were taken by an anonymous passenger seated two seats from Conyers (see video here). Conyers – in his aisle seat – is shown flipping though pages showing two nude gal pals in the August issue of Playboy. And he also apparently reads Hefner’s product for the articles. The pages he lingers on appear to feature an article entitled “La Chatte” by Maureen Gibbon, on article exploring lesbian sex.

Of course, Mr. Conyers is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, so it is entirely possible he is preparing for a committee hearing on the legal definition of pornography. Or perhaps he is studying new TSA pat-down procedures for female passengers.

Whatever the case, the congressman doesn’t seem bashful about sharing the magazine with nearby passengers and passing stewardesses. After all, Conyers is not a bashful man. He once used staff as baby sitters and chauffeurs for his children. And this children attended Cranbrook private school at a time when the congressman opposed giving his own constituents the choice of more charter schools.

Obviously, this is a politician who is not easily embarrassed.

Divergent views on strategy to optimize party

    Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi

    By Patricio Navia
    For the Herald

The two most powerful women in the Democratic Party represent two divergent views on what strategy will optimize the party’s chances to stay in the White House after 2012. Nancy Pelosi is pushing to move the party to the left while Hillary Clinton embodies a more pragmatic approach to better represent moderate voters.

In a time of high partisanship, only those loyal to the most sacred beliefs of the Democratic Party can lead the regrouping after the midterm election defeat. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi can claim pure democratic DNA. Their personal history and political career is defined by partisan principles. They both have very high negatives among Republicans. Just like Republican presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, Clinton and Pelosi generate as much resistance among political opponents as support among sympathizers.

Yet, Clinton and Pelosi have more differences than similarities. Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, born on October 26, 1947, represents the centrist wing of the Democratic Party. Nancy Pelosi, born on March 26, 1940, positions herself on the left. Hillary entered politics in Arkansas in 1974, together with her husband Bill Clinton, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress a year after they completed their law degree. Nancy Pelosi was born when her father Thomas D’Alessandro served in Congress. She grew up in Washington and Baltimore, where her father later served as mayor.

Pelosi made a political career in San Francisco, one of the most liberal cities in the United States. She has served in Congress since 1987. During the Clinton years (1993-2001), Pelosi worked her way up the leadership of her party. Under the Bush administration, Pelosi emerged as a vocal opponent of tax breaks and restrictions on civil liberties. She became the House minority whip in 2002 and the House minority leader in 2003. When democrats gained control of the House in 2006, she became the first woman to be the Speaker of the House, second in the line of presidential succession after the vice-president.

Clinton built a career in her husband’s shadow in Arkansas, a conservative state. After having supported her husband’s career all the way to the White House, Clinton started her own political career when she was elected senator from New York in 2000. She struggled to hold moderate positions during the Bush administration, infuriating liberals — including Pelosi — for her support to the war in Iraq. In 2004, she decided against running for the democratic presidential nomination in part because of George W. Bush’s popularity, but also because she lacked support within the dominant leftwing party base. In 2008, she secured the support of many Democratic governors and elected leaders but failed to win the nomination when the inexperienced senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, won over the support of the left-leaning base. After winning the election, Obama asked Clinton to be his secretary of state. Since taking office, Clinton has showed a remarkable discipline and built strong bipartisan support for the administration foreign policy agenda.

After the 2010 midterm elections, Pelosi came under fire from centrist voices within her party. Democrats lost 63 seats and now will hold 190 seats in the 435-member House of Representatives. Disregarding calls to step down, Pelosi successfully ran to be the House minority leader. She announced that her intention will be to block the Republican majority agenda. In short, Pelosi believes the Democratic Party lost the midterm election because it did not deliver on the liberal promises made during the campaign. For her, the party needs to move left to attract a disenchanted electorate.

Clinton, whose position prevented her from playing an active role in the campaign, has also emerged as a key actor as democrats seek to regroup. News leaks and off-the-record remarks have fueled the rumour that Clinton will replace Joe Biden as the vice-presidential candidate in Obama’s re-election bid on the expectation that she might run for the presidency in 2016 — she will be 69 then. Others have even suggested that she ought to replace Obama as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. Although she has high negatives among Republican sympathizers, she is well regarded as a consensus builder and moderate leader among independents. Her strong credentials on defence, anti-terrorism and her political experience are valuable assets in a party criticized for having a president who has failed to materialize the message of change into a reality of economic recovery.

In the next few months, as Democrats outline their strategy for the next year and the 2012 election, Pelosi and Clinton will embody the two divergent views that divide the Democratic Party. Though they both share strong anti-Republican positions, Clinton embodies a moderate and pragmatic approach to politics while Pelosi will seek to rebuild the party on its liberal leftwing base. The decision President Obama needs to make inevitably will bring victory for one of these women and the sounding defeat of the other. Washington does not seem big enough for these two powerful leaders to survive as the Democratic Party regroups after the 2010 midterm election defeat.

  3. Group Wants Hillary Clinton for President in 2012
    By Paul Bedard

    November 24, 2010

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says she done with running for president, but her fans aren’t giving up so fast. A Facebook group called Hillary Clinton for 2012!! is organizing a meeting in Washington to talk about plans to coax her into the race. “Right now,” says organizer and publicist Will Bower, “we are simply aiming to keep HRC’s strongest supporters united for if and when that day comes when Hillary either challenges in 2012 and/or makes a run in 2016. And, of course, to rally as many people as possible to strongly encourage and petition her to do so— preferably the 2012 option.

  4. Clinton and the Nuclear Scientist

    Rebecca N. White | November 24, 2010

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Dr. Siegfried Hecker of Stanford University yesterday about North Korea. The nuclear expert was one of a few scientists invited to Yongbyon to take a peek at North Korea’s new uranium-enrichment facility. Hecker’s first reaction when he visited on November 12 was, “Oh my God, they actually did what they said they were going to do.” The North Koreans took pains to point out that the settings on the machines inside the facilities were set for low-enriched fuel, not the highly enriched uranium necessary for making weapons. And they wanted nuclear scientists to see it firsthand and then tell the world about it. Acting Deputy State Department spokesman Mark Toner wouldn’t reveal exactly what Hecker told Clinton, but he said “she was obviously briefed on the details of his visit to North Korea.” Clinton had a regular meeting yesterday with National Security Adviser Tom Donilon and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates that touched on North Korea, and the secretary of state was expected to make “calls to some of her counterparts in the region.”

In Beijing, U.S. envoy Stephen Bosworth reiterated that Washington is “firmly committed to the defense of the Republic of Korea and to the maintenance of peace and stability in northeast Asia.” According to Toner, Bosworth met with Chinese Special Representative on Korean Peninsular Affairs Wu Dawei among others.

Yesterday, General David Petraeus, commander of forces in Afghanistan, said that alliance forces are employing an “anaconda strategy” on the Taliban. The goal is to “squeeze the life” out of the militants. He also said that Pakistan has recognized “the need for more operations in North Waziristan,” the base from which insurgents are mounting attacks on NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan. According to the general, the Pakistani security forces have already launched some “very impressive counterinsurgency operations.” But as impressive as they may be, there is more to be done.

  5. omg! Admin, that turkey pardon was hillarious. Your article is amazing as well.

““There has been no attempt to reach out to people they don’t see as their people,” said the wife of a senior administration official, who doesn’t have Chicago ties. “They don’t reach out to even people in the administration who aren’t from their inner circle.”

    And that says it all.

  6. …still on the thread below, sorry.

    SORRY, Shadowfax

    Thanks for that NewMexicoFan

I honestly don’t know much about how they pick delegates, seems as though you have to come from some level of the political machine, yes, so there is ‘control’ by the party big wigs (DNC).
Before 2008, maybe this was okay, and the DNC/Barry took advantage of Hillary with it.
I did hear that days before the convention, in Denver, delegates were trying to reach each other. Many told me this. That they did not have email addresses or phone numbers of all Hillary’s delegates and besides word of mouth, asked the DNC and they refused to give out this info. There were some meetings of delegates to try and organize, to support Hillary, and seeing that delegate with the gag over her mouth was one of the things that came out of it.
Delegates were threatened, yet many did not give up.
I also heard that the Calif delegates had to be in Sacramento for some important vote, knowing this, Nasty moved the time to vote on the floor of the convention up so those delegates could not fly there in time. I heard many were scrambling to fly there in time when the voting time was changed.

Nasty played a big part in this corruption, this is what I was told.

The average American could buy a house for the amount of money it takes to run Air Force One every hour.

The U.S. military has provided an updated estimate on that cost, first published by a taxpayer watchdog group and confirmed by, and the number is staggering — $181,757 per hour. That’s the price tag for shuttling around President Obama, who, as it turns out, has spent more days abroad in his first two years than any other president. [snip]

But the trip to India, Indonesia, South Korea and Japan was by no means cheap. While a total by-the-day figure may be impossible to come by, Brady estimated that the 48 hours of flight time logged on the trip would cost at least $8.7 million for Air Force One alone. The president’s latest visit to Lisbon, Portugal, for a NATO conference would add another $2.7 million, he figured.

That Lisbon trip also set a record for Obama. By Brady’s accounting, Obama has now logged 55 days overseas, surpassing former President George H.W. Bush’s record of 54 days during his first two years. In total, Obama has visited 26 countries — some of them more than once — over the course of 15 trips.

Having been in office only two years, Obama has not come anywhere close to the overall record for presidential travel. That was set by former President Bill Clinton over the course of his two terms in office. Clinton logged 233 days abroad over the course of 55 trips. Former President George W. Bush comes in at a close second, with 215 days abroad over the course of 49 trips.

  8. Mrs. Smith

The Arkansas and Ohio delegations were to stage a walk-out in Denver in support of Hillary. For some unknown reason, a good friend of Bill and Hillary’s, the AK Chairman of the Dem Party, Bill Gwatney shot dead and another long time friend, Rep Stephanie Tubbs Jones died suddenly under suspicious circumstances. (CiA blk ops?) Therefore, Hillary’s plans stood neutralized several weeks before the nomination. Time for regrouping for more support before Denver not an option.

After all, two Hillary loyalists found dead within weeks of each other surly does stir the mind as an example of what happens to anyone preventing the ‘one’ from following through on the nomination. We’ll never know for sure, if these two heroes were the examples if anyone else had ideas of fighting for Hillary.

I remember first hand accounts of pumas on the ground the night of the nomination. It was a scary scene. Thugs everywhere intimidating supporters who dared to dissent. Bots were told NO violence. As it would reflect badly on the ‘one’ as he coyly appeared surprised and exhilarated at the prospect of his popularity trumping Hillary in full view of Americans glued to their tvees.

Excellent recall Mrs. Smith…I remember these events and the mood in Denver by the Obots was pretty ugly. The folks of Denver were really nice, but PUMAs had to sick together when protesting.

  9. confloyd

That’s exactly what they did here in Texas…you got elected if you were thought to be a yellow dog union member. In fact, at the delegate election I attended here at my county election for state delegates that was my election speech. I said (which was sneaky) ” I was the daughter of two AFL-CIO union member yellow dog democrats that had walked many pickett lines while I was growing up” I was elected!

OMG Confloyd – you were elected to be a Hillary delegate?
Please tell me how you do that if you are a regular person.
    Is there a link?

  10. Admin: Great article…is that pardon thing for real…did someone take the time to make this comedy up or what? NK is bombing SK, Ireland just went belly up, no one has jobs, health care is on a ventilator and we are making skits about the freaking Turkey on Thanksgiving???? How can this be? I guess your right….you’ve always said this WH is the “Comedy Hour”.

JanH, Great articles you posted…especially the Pelosi and Hillary fight to the finish.

  11. Now reading Admins great post, with Intermission music on…

Having dabbed our tears away, we may now proceed to bear witness to the sufferings of Michelle on the Cross:

    Gaud, this music is awful…

  12. Shadowfax,
I no regular person….I am a true blue, died in blue, blue to the death, Hillary supporter and it shows! ROTFLMAO! HILLARY IS THE “ONE” and “ONLY”!

  13. My favorite part of Admin’s article, was how HEAVY Michelle’s cross is….being Catholic I can identify with that! LOL!

  14. In fact, had I not had an asshole for a boss at the time I was planning on running for national delegate, but could not get off. Of coarse the other problem was being able to show you had quiet a bit of money for expenses in Colorado. It happened to be a problem at the time.

Well, my plans are now is to go see D.C. someday, most likely when we have our first female President…which I hope I can still walk when this happens, LOL!

  15. Loved your post Admin, yes – how hard the Obama’s work at play must be appreciated by all.

To all flyer’s, Happy Grope a Dope, and to the rest, Happy Thanksgiving.

  16. “Ask not what you can do for your country, demand what your country can do for you” is the poet/Messiah Obama’s slogan.

“Ask not what Obama can do for you, ask what you can do for Obama,” is his slogan. The word “country” doesn’t even exist in his universe. L’état, c’est lui.

Group Wants Hillary Clinton for President in 2012

I am happy that Will is still fighting for Hillary and hasn’t jumped over to Sarah, like Hillbuzz guys.

    November 24th, 2010 at 12:45 pm

I am no regular person…who told you that???

Ah, ahhhhh, ahhh, someone told me that, can’t remember who….ah, ah…

How do you become a delegate? I am still a registered Dem…money, not so much but I am loyal…

  19. Yeah! you think they want to separate Sarah from Hillary tried and true supporters.

You got to go to your dem meetings in your area, suck up to the big shots there and then give a great election speech! I really didn’t know I had/could give a rousing speech, but I did….got lots of claps and yelps…see I think I should run for office…I need a permanent job with benefits to die for too, LOL!

  20. I guess all that experience talking people into letting me give them a Barium Enema was useful, I learned how to manipulate people into doing what they do not want to do, LOL! Isn’t that whats politics all about anyway??? LOL!

  21. Something must be up, Monica Crowley and Megan Kelly on Fox are slamming Hillary for her absence on these last two big foreign policy screwups….well the foreign policy is Obama’s policy, not really hers. What is that they don’t get….although Megan Kelly was half way standing up for Hillary, but getting that message of policy screwups out to the public.

  22. What the heck is this about?

Foreign and Military Affairs China, Russia quit dollar
By Su Qiang and Li Xiaokun (China Daily)
    Updated: 2010-11-24 08:02

Premier Wen Jiabao shakes hands with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on a visit to St. Petersburg on Tuesday.ALEXEY DRUZHININ / AFP

St. Petersburg, Russia – China and Russia have decided to renounce the US dollar and resort to using their own currencies for bilateral trade, Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced late on Tuesday.

Chinese experts said the move reflected closer relations between Beijing and Moscow and is not aimed at challenging the dollar, but to protect their domestic economies.

“About trade settlement, we have decided to use our own currencies,” Putin said at a joint news conference with Wen in St. Petersburg.

The two countries were accustomed to using other currencies, especially the dollar, for bilateral trade. Since the financial crisis, however, high-ranking officials on both sides began to explore other possibilities.

The yuan has now started trading against the Russian rouble in the Chinese interbank market, while the renminbi will soon be allowed to trade against the rouble in Russia, Putin said.

“That has forged an important step in bilateral trade and it is a result of the consolidated financial systems of world countries,” he said.

Putin made his remarks after a meeting with Wen. They also officiated at a signing ceremony for 12 documents, including energy cooperation.

The documents covered cooperation on aviation, railroad construction, customs, protecting intellectual property, culture and a joint communiqu. Details of the documents have yet to be released.

Putin said one of the pacts between the two countries is about the purchase of two nuclear reactors from Russia by China’s Tianwan nuclear power plant, the most advanced nuclear power complex in China.

Putin has called for boosting sales of natural resources – Russia’s main export – to China, but price has proven to be a sticking point.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, who holds sway over Russia’s energy sector, said following a meeting with Chinese representatives that Moscow and Beijing are unlikely to agree on the price of Russian gas supplies to China before the middle of next year.

Russia is looking for China to pay prices similar to those Russian gas giant Gazprom charges its European customers, but Beijing wants a discount. The two sides were about $100 per 1,000 cubic meters apart, according to Chinese officials last week.

Wen’s trip follows Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s three-day visit to China in September, during which he and President Hu Jintao launched a cross-border pipeline linking the world’s biggest energy producer with the largest energy consumer.

Wen said at the press conference that the partnership between Beijing and Moscow has “reached an unprecedented level” and pledged the two countries will “never become each other’s enemy”.

Over the past year, “our strategic cooperative partnership endured strenuous tests and reached an unprecedented level,” Wen said, adding the two nations are now more confident and determined to defend their mutual interests.

“China will firmly follow the path of peaceful development and support the renaissance of Russia as a great power,” he said.

“The modernization of China will not affect other countries’ interests, while a solid and strong Sino-Russian relationship is in line with the fundamental interests of both countries.”

Wen said Beijing is willing to boost cooperation with Moscow in Northeast Asia, Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as in major international organizations and on mechanisms in pursuit of a “fair and reasonable new order” in international politics and the economy.

Sun Zhuangzhi, a senior researcher in Central Asian studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the new mode of trade settlement between China and Russia follows a global trend after the financial crisis exposed the faults of a dollar-dominated world financial system.

Pang Zhongying, who specializes in international politics at Renmin University of China, said the proposal is not challenging the dollar, but aimed at avoiding the risks the dollar represents.

Wen arrived in the northern Russian city on Monday evening for a regular meeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government.

He left St. Petersburg for Moscow late on Tuesday and is set to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday

  23. confloyd

Dem meetings in my place? I didn’t know there were Dem meetings, just house parties to support the Fraud.

How soon would I have to pretend to be an Obot? The less time, the better. I don’t want to do it if Hillary doesn’t run. Just gathering info in case…

  24. Video at link:

Glenn Beck had Luke Tait, the college student who took the infamous video of the TSA agent doing a pat down of the shirtless little boy, on his show this morning to discuss the incident at the airport. During the interview, Beck said that he learned from a ‘refounder’ (Congressional insider) that the little boy didn’t actually set off the metal detectors as the TSA reported, but rather the boy had on a baggy shirt that caught the attention of the TSA and thats why they wanted to do a pat down. Beck said he also learned a detail that hasn’t been reported yet, that the little boy has autism.

Those two details, if true, certainly put this in a different light than the TSA reported. It would also better explain why the agents tried to intimidate Tait into deleting the video, as he describes in the interview.

So I guess we should all give kudos to the TSA for helping protect America from an innocent little autistic boy with a baggy shirt. Great Job TSA!

  25. Shadowfax, I was lucky, I was very good friends with one of the ladies that had been with the party in our little town for a long time. I went with her. I went to one meeting and had never been involved with politics before. I guess how I won both those election was that I was the most aggressive talker there. All Hillary supporters wanted someone who would speak up and not back down, so I was automatically chosen, but once I won by county delegate I had to win the state slot and that was where I had to give the speech.
Well when I want to do something, nothing much or anyone stands in my way if I believe in what I am doing, which I did and still do.
I still believe there is only one person at this time in our history that can fix these problems were are facing and you know who it is too.

  26. A little autistic child…boy now he’s a real threat…I’m sure Al Queda would have access to this child to turn him into a killer….do these folks even have any education or what???

  27. I think the Hillbuzz guys are going to find out they are supporting a losing battle. The Rep. big shots don’t want Sarah, when the old lady of the party Barbie Bush says “Sarah needs to go back to Alaska”, you can bet Sarah was shot down. She’s even come out now and said she would not run if she became a distraction….it will Romney or a dark horse which is another word for saying Rick Perry.

  28. agents tried to intimidate Tait into deleting the video,
I am surprised that TSA didn’t confiscate his phone and detain him. If you video a local police officer tazering an old lady, it is likely that you will have your phone confiscated. Recently a Maryland woman videoed a police officer using excessive force; her phone was confiscated she was arrested and taken to jail.

Yup, I agree that the good ol’ Rethug boyz will not let Sarah go to the front of the line in the primary.

My guess is, Mitts and Rubio.

Or, someother while male conservative with Rubio.

  30. Shadowfax,
White male in the primary spot for sure, and a hispanic or black in the second. They are floating again today on msnbc that Hillary will take over Biden’t spot soon. I don’t believe it.

  31. You know when I was a delegate my boss was a male from Illinois. He was probably an incognito Bot. I am glad he was fired after I left. Did I ever tell you what got him fired?

Two of the girls working in the dept. were decorating the doors for Christmas and they both were on their knees putting up Christmas decorations…he walked by and said ” that is just what I like to see..women on their knees”. He was fired within hours!

  32. They are floating again today on msnbc that Hillary will take over Biden’t spot soon. I don’t believe it.

It’s pretty darn funny to hear all the Obots trying to push Hillary into the VP job now and she keeps telling folks, “I already have a job, bite me!”

I bet she is at least enjoying the tanking polls of Barry, seeing the obots realize he was just a puppet.

  33. Shadowfax,
You betcha she is! So am I!

Look how much of our money they are spending to entertain….is he Nixon or what? Nixon and his wife were always in hot water for their excesses, guess the fraud doesn’t read American history.

  34. Well its time for work and I always hate the holidays because they aren’t holidays for us healthcare workers….its always so busy! Depression is a huge problem this time of the year and I bet this year will be worse with the joblessness.

Please not Mitts. I am sooooooo not a fan of that guy. He gives me the creeps.

Palin is a very able governor and executive, good at numbers, who tamed the Alaska oil companies and got a pipeline deal with Canada — as well as fighting her own party to get elected.

I disagree with her conservative policies, but if Hillary doesn’t run again, Palin would make a good POTUS imo.

    You sound like a troll.

  39. I heard that overall, civilian trials of accused terrorists were getting more convictions and/or longer sentences than military tribunals.”

That’s what Hillary said. May just be true!
You cannot generalize that way, unless the cases themselves are identical.

It does seem unlikely. Teh cases wouldn’t have to be identical, but prehaps we should demand more detail before accepting the claim.

  40. Cohen comes to the inane, and typically leftist, conclusion that Sarah Palin “could not be the president of black America nor of Hispanic America.”

That’s a lot milder than what they used to say. Maybe they’re running scared.

  41. Shadow-

“Excellent recall Mrs. Smith…I remember these events and the mood in Denver by the Obots was pretty ugly. The folks of Denver were really nice, but PUMAs had to sick together when protesting.”

Several of my good friends were there with their lap tops and were e-mailing me about what was going on…

That night is indelibly imprinted on my mind.

We were trying to help Phil Berg get someone from the ‘one’s’ campaign served. He had developed paperwork to serve Dodd and Kerry as well. Requesting info about Obama’s birth certificate and the results of the vetting process. The topic was strictly taboo to BO’s campaigners. Security prevented any outsiders entering the premises to serve anyone. Even the Denver police and Sheriff’s Dept were on board with the Obama campaign. We accomplished nada-

  42. Tom Delay is going to JAIL
I will be shocked if that corrupt POS serves a day in prison. People like DeLay, Conyers,(if ever prosecuted) et al need to get max prison time. The damage that they do to the country is much more than some crack-head that robs a min-mart.

  43. turndownobama, This is NOT SarahIs44. And I can’t be called a “troll” for defending Hillary, on a site for Hillary supporters against cheap shots by some pretender.

Maybe you would feel more at home with the other Palin a$$ kissers over at HillBuzz.

The fact that you think this clown is the best alternative to Hillary as CIC doesn’t impress me at all. It just shows how far the bar’s been lowered since Jan 20, 2001.

*Thanks for all the videos JanH!

  44. Even the Denver police and Sheriff’s Dept were on board with the Obama campaign. We accomplished nada-

No surprise to me after seeing the Denver police march down the street in full riot gear, face guards down and the big guns at ready. I thought I was suddenly transported to North Korea or Iran. They were across the street from the ‘PUMA den’ and after the first day of us marching by with our full Hillary gear and signs, waving to them, some ladies flirting to try and disarm them, they went after the real anarchists, and left us alone. We all were blocked by numerous barracudas from even getting to the door of the convention.
    It really sucked!!!

I was actually shocked at how easy it was to find and go up and talk to delegates on the street, they were the best dressed…tried to convince them that Hillary was the ‘One’…………….depressing to think back of that time when I still had hope that we were making a difference.

  45. Thanks, Shadowfax- you’re absolutely right.

Indeed, it was a very sad night.

Hillary, the seasoned professional she is, carried the whole thing off as if nothing was amiss- But we knew, we were helpless, as she was a prisoner to her hostage takers.

And that Pelosi- banging the gavel, smiling that sickening smile, calling out the states… running over Hillary delegates assigning them to Obama.- nauseating to watch…

I’m going to post more of Ulsterman’s info..

He has more on Obama’s Treasonous-Seditious activities the media has been mum about.

The Ulsterman Report: Is President Obama Getting Punked by the Russians?

(more like Obama is punking America. The all too familiar sell-out of our country by the Kenyan.)

What appears most clear is that it is Russia now openly and aggressively demanding the United States concede to its demands, and enjoying an American president seemingly willing to accomplish just that.

It is interesting to note that while it is the TSA body scan/search controversy that now rages in America, President Obama appears primarily focused on obtaining Senate approval for an updated START treaty – an ongoing agreement between the United States and Russia to further reduce their respective nuclear arsenals in the coming years. Such reductions are widely supported by various European nations, and according to a recent CNN poll, the vast majority of Americans. President Obama originally signed the treaty agreement with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev several months ago, with little mention or sense of urgency by the Obama White House for final Congressional approval since that time – until now.

Inside the Beltway prognosticators are not so quietly indicating that, following the “shellacking” Democrats and by default, the Obama White House, took in the November midterm elections, President Obama is now desperate to, in any way possible, appear “presidential”.

What better than to repeatedly invoke the name of great Cold War warrior Ronald Reagan, as Obama did just last week in his weekly address, while signing off on a new nuclear asenal agreement with the Russians?

To date, the American media has done little to report on the issue more than to state the delay of the START’s ultimate approval has been due to delays by Republicans. This is not entirely accurate. As the treaty worked its way through the Congressional review process, more than 30 amendments, many sponsored by Democrats, were added to the original version signed by President Obama and Russian President Medvedev. Perhaps most notable among these amendments was the attempted exclusion of the new START treaty from impacting America’s future missile defense system. That’s right – President Obama had willingly signed off on an agreement that would have significantly reduced further development of a comprehensive missile defense system. The very thing that had caused President Reagan over 20 years ago to rise from the negotiations table, look then Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev in the eyes and declare “Nyet!”, was the very thing current President Barack Obama so willingly gave up – America’s right to have and share with its allies, a comprehensive missile defense program. In essence, Obama gave up this nation’s right to more effectuvely defend itself from the very missiles he wishes to see reduced.

It is the kind of myopic, weak, and preening statesmanship that greatly increases international threats to America and its allies.

Another delay to the START treaty passage was the Russian Parliament’s recent revoking of the treaty themselves when an amendment to remove the missile defense system from the agreement was made by Republicans in Congress. Just as they had done so in the era of Reagan, the Russians are now demanding the United States stop further enhanced development of its own missile defense system. The Obama White House has said very little regarding this – instead only now offering up the oft-repeated implorations from the President to “pass this treaty now.”

What appears most clear is that it is Russia now openly and aggressively demanding the United States concede to its demands, and enjoying an American president seemingly willing to accomplish just that. At a time when President Obama is attempting to portray a figure of international strength, he once again is confirming the reality of his seemingly never ending penchant for weakness.

Obama says one thing and does another. The most nefarious president in US history is singlehandely taking down America without a whimper from the media.

  48. I want to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to ALL-

Remember the old Triptophan effect… dibbs on sofas everywhere.. 🙂

  50. confloyd – my guess is that it won’t faze Hillbuzz if Sarah doesn’t run or isn’t nominated. They’re like full-on republicans now. They’ll just support other republicans who are running. Other than Hillary, they’re just SO black and white now – all dems are bad, all republicans are good.

Report: Clinton and Obama Pulled ‘Bait and Switch’ on Netanyahu

    by Maayana Miskin

As Israel waits for a letter clarifying America’s guarantees in exchange for a proposed building ban for Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, a diplomatic source has come forward saying that no such letter is on its way. United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton misled Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and contrary to reports, the U.S. does not guarantee an end to the freeze, the source said.

The source, a senior diplomat with inside knowledge of Netanyahu’s recent meetings in Washington, said Clinton made commitments when talking to Netanyahu, but later slipped out of them by claiming that she had not been speaking on behalf of U.S. President Obama – who, she said in the end, did not give his approval.

When Netanyahu called the State Department to clarify America’s position, officials expressed surprise at his surprise, the source continued. While Clinton made promises, Netanyahu knew from the beginning that Obama has the final word, they allegedly said.

Clinton had told Netanyahu that the proposed construction freeze would last for three months, and that it would end regardless of whether or not there was progress in talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. After that, she said, America would not push for a third building freeze.

However, according to the diplomat, U.S. leaders have since said that the building ban for Jews in Judea and Samaria would only end if Israel and the PA reached an agreement on the borders of a proposed PA state.

Several other American promises have been called into question as well. While it was initially reported that Israel would receive F-35 fighter jets in exchange for the freeze, Israeli ministers later clarified that the jets are part of a separate package, and that Israel will pay for them in full. It was also suggested that the construction ban would not apply to Jews living in Jerusalem; however, U.S. officials later stated that it would apply to all Jews living east of the 1949 armistice line, including those in Israel’s capital city.

If America does not openly declare that a second construction freeze would end in three months with or without a deal with the PA, Netanyahu is unlikely to get the cabinet’s support for the new construction ban. Ministers in Shas and within Netanyahu’s own Likud party have already stated that they would vote against the proposal without a U.S. promise.

Netanyahu previously made the unprecedented step of unconditionally freezing construction for Jews in Judea and Samaria for 10 months, in an attempt to bring the PA to the negotiating table. PA leaders reluctantly agreed to talk just as the 10-month freeze reached its conclusion, but left the talks again when the freeze ended.

  52. Kicking The Can On Afghanistan
    Posted by Moe Lane (Profile)
Wednesday, November 24th at 3:30PM EST

Well, it’s official: there will be no withdrawal from Afghanistan prior to the 2012 Presidential election. Not that there will be a withdrawal from Afghanistan after the 2012 election, either – and I invite anyone who wants to argue that point to first remember how the closing of Gitmo went, or more accurately, didn’t – but there are rules to this game, and the first is to pretend that you believe the press releases. NATO did President Obama a favor on his domestic front by endorsing a 2014 plan; I have no idea what the President gave up in exchange, but with any luck it was something that he should have been offering them anyway. That’s one of the few advantages to having an administration as weak as this one is on foreign relations; expectations are, as they say, lowered.

If one is wondering why Reuters was reporting that no decision had been reached on a 2014 timeline hours before the President himself confirmed that a 2014 timeline decision had been reached (and a week after it was reported {via @DavePoff} that a 2014 timeline solution had been reached), that’s actually easy to explain. Reuters must have talked to an administration official affiliated with the antiwar movement. Those poor unfortunates are locked out of any meaningful policy oversight and generally given the mushroom treatment; it’s no surprise that they end up with a generally skewed vision of the universe.

Well, more skewed. After all, people in the antiwar movement actually believed that the administration planned to exit Afghanistan in time for the 2012 elections. Which is a profoundly silly thing to believe: the Right emphatically won’t vote for him if he does, the Left will continue to vote for him even if he doesn’t, and the Middle doesn’t react well to Democratic presidents who manage to lose wars. 2014 is a much better time for Obama: he doesn’t have to worry about reelection either way. Win-win, in other words.

    Moe Lane (crosspost)

PS: All of this was blatantly obvious, by the way. I mention this to any random antiwar person that might happen to read this; remember, we’re not laughing with you.

  54. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Just wanted to say how thankful I am for administrator and Hillary is 44 and for leaders like Hillary and Bill Clinton.

  55. Does anybody know why there two turkeys for 0bama to pardon?

BTW, this is what he said during the big pardoning ceremony — the indirect reference to Bristol Palin is perhaps not lost on people. Big prize life?!

Flanked by daughters Malia and Sasha in the Rose Garden, Mr. Obama jokingly called the turkey pardon “one of the most important duties that I carry out as president.” He discussed the process for selecting the turkeys earning a presidential pardon, which involves contestants “strutting their stuff” before judges as music plays.

“It’s kind of like a turkey version of ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ except the stakes for the contestants was much higher,” said the president.”Only one pair would survive and win the big prize: life.”

  56. Happy Thanksgiving to you too Southern Born, and to everyone here at Hillaryis44!! I’ve already started cooking, since it seems like there is never enough room in the oven lol, and will be heading to bed here soon so I can wake early to do more. But of course, it’s all worth it to me as I’m sure it is to all of you.

Here’s to a fun and enjoyable holiday for all! All the best.

  57. confloyd – my guess is that it won’t faze Hillbuzz if Sarah doesn’t run or isn’t nominated. They’re like full-on republicans now. They’ll just support other republicans who are running. Other than Hillary, they’re just SO black and white now – all dems are bad, all republicans are good.
Lorac–I know what you mean, but I am getting that way myself. As far as I can tell, there were and are three groups who supported Hillary in 2008. One group was the people who have been Clinton loyalists from the beginning. I have the highest respect for these people. Another group are those who want to live to see a woman president, and for them Hillary is the one and there are no substitutes, certainly not Sarah. I agree that is an important goal, and I believe if it had happened it would have had a salutary effect on society, the family and all walks of life. Therefore I was in favor of it. And then there is a third group who had no particular allegiance to either party but believed the nation was at a tipping point, and needed a competent experienced leader who was on the side of the American People and not the elites and corporations. They wanted Hillary not because her name was Clinton, and not because she was a woman, but because she was the only leader who fit that bill. The right leader with the right message at the right time. And while I am sympathetic to all three groups and made common cause with them, the third group is where my own loyalties are. And because I feel that way, and because there is no present indication that Hillary will run, I have no use today for any democrat. As far as I am concerned, they are all Obama supporters, and are in pare delicto with the irreversible damage this man is doing to our country. I would remind anyone who disagrees that Pelosi is still the party leader in the House. That is not being defeatist at all–it is just being realistic. The only hope I see is that enough conservative and centrist democrats defect for the party of Obama to collapse. I was a Republican once and Bush cured me of that. But now we have a president who is undoing our country and everything it stands for–a worser than Bush. I will support anyone who can defeat him, and will presume that any democrat is now an Obamacrat–and part of this evil cabal. I am sure they do not see it that way, but in the fulsomeness of time it will be obvious to more and more people. The party itself must be defeated–for the good of the country. And right now the Republicans are the only game in town. I think that is where Hillbuzz is at the moment. If Hillary does throw her hat in the ring the entire game changes, but if that does not happen then for the good of the country that is where I stand.

  58. wbb

I would have to say I am of the fourth group, life long Dem, waiting for Hillary to run for President since she was in the White House helping Bill run the country. Love and respect both of them and was disappointed when she became Senator of NY because it would be a longer wait for her to be President, but good for her experience.
The fact she is a woman is the cherry on top…Hillary is my JFK.

  59. “It’s kind of like a turkey version of ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ except the stakes for the contestants was much higher,” said the president.”Only one pair would survive and win the big prize: life.”
Now that is the statement of a sick man. No question about it.

  60. shadowfax: in my lexicon you would be category 1. A long time loyal supporter of the Clintons. The problem with the categories is they are not mutually exclusive. A good friend of mine who used to blog here under the name Molly Richards was a family friend of the Clintons (category i), wanted to see a woman president (category 2), and certainly loved the country (category 3). But I would say she was a category 1 as well because when she would tell me stories about her support and her mothers friendship with Hillary that was the predominant motive. I have roots in the party, and was once a Republican as well, but I consider myself an independent. It was hard enough to see party elders steal the nomination from Hillary–and disenfrancise rank and file democrats in the process. It would have been harder still if I considered the democrat in which case it I would see it as my party violating its most sacred principles–fair reflection, etc.

  61. Yup wbb, I always thought of the Dems as the white knights fighting for the common person and the Rethugs defending the wealthy. Guess I still do to a certain point, but I also thought of myself as a liberal until Obama came and changed everything and stomped on the things Dems have fought for since Bill turned to the middle.
I pretty much fit in with most of what Hillary stands for, I think she is pretty much in the middle, leaning left on social issues, middle on economy and security.

  62. I have two main issues with Rethugs:

1- Their religious bent and social leanings.

2- Their attitude that the wealthy should keep and gain as many loop holes in paying taxes as possible. I believe everyone should pay their fair share and not get a break just because you have wealth.

I could see myself going as far to the right as an Independent (cherry picking), but I would never be a Republican.

  63. 2- Their attitude that the wealthy should keep and gain as many loop holes in paying taxes as possible. I believe everyone should pay their fair share and not get a break just because you have wealth.
I agree. It’s odd that people vote against their economic self interest. I was recently at the dentist and the hygienist had Fox on the TV. The story was about “illegals” in California getting YOUR tax dollars to go to college, blah..blah.. The implication was that all of the good Red States send money to CA for illegals or some such rot. They didn’t mention that for every $1.00 that CA sends to DC as tax they get back 78 cents. Her reaction to the story was that Obama and the Dems should continue the Bush tax cuts for the upper 2%. Go figure!!

Are you saying you support the CA law, which by the way is enacted in several states including TX? I don’t, just for the record.

  66. Well I was so happy that Tom Delay was finally going to get his, but his crap happened in 2002, wtf to so long to convict him??? What were we waiting for Bush to get out of office first??? If it takes this long to get Obama, we are in a heap of trouble. Now the law has changed and corporations can openly give money…wonder if that will affect the verdict? If so, no doubt that’s what they were waiting on before they took him to court.

JanH, Its total bullshit that Obama is walking back on all Hillary’s promises! You know damn well he did not want her to have the glory so he walked back on the promises….then the statement about the turkeys and Dancing with the Stars.

He is a freaking prick of the highest order.

Shadowfax…thanks for wishing me a good night at work…I needed it…it was busy…poor old folks sick, I felt sorry for them.
I work 30 hrs from 7am on Saturday to noon on Sunday….that when we’ll get all the “falling off the ladders” from putting up the Christmas lights. I’m off today and tomorrow and the girls at work will be getting the belly aches from eating too much…I hate those.

The only virtue I see in rethugs as you call them is they are not dimocrats. Other than that it is pretty much a wash. They serve only their own interests. Not the American People. Whereas a dimocrats goes one step further and takes action which not only serve their interests but also destroy the country. That is the de facto mission of Obama, under the banner of hope and change. We know who pulls his strings, but the American People seem powerless to do anything about it. And for all those people who tell us don’t worry, in the long run it will work out, I must remind them of something Keynes said on a similar subject: “that may be true, but in the long run we will all be dead.”

  68. “I would feel guilty that to think because of me, that somebody like him didn’t do what this country needed and I still feel that and I’ll feel that way until the job is done,” Michelle Obama
She has to say that. It is beyond meaningless. And it will not persuade anyone who knows that talk is cheap and he does not deliver.

  69. The point is the illusions are gone and people now know the real Obama. Whether or not you believe 2008 was a referendum on Bush or a mandate for Obama, today he is widely viewed as a liar, and beyond that very weak as a leader. At the heart of the realignment of the world, are two factors: the proliferigate spending of Obama which have undermined our currency and the perceived weakness of Obama because friends and enemies alike realize that to defy him has no consequences. He is risk adverse and terrified of any escalation–even if it means bad guys get the bomb. Only in the realm of domestic politics is that manifestly untrue, and that is why your prototypical dimocrat would rather betray the country than say anything untoward about him. And here is the latest ploy by his mentor whose stated goal is to destroy the United States. This guy is the money man for the democartic party which is why I proceed on the assumption that I do. In essence, Soros has moved from buying a president to buying secretaries of state to buying judgeships. He has too much invested in Obama to cut him loose.

  70. Barbara Bush is the one that said that the evacuees from Katrina who found themselves in Astrodome evacuation center in Houston

“were underprivileged anyway,” saying that many of the poor people she had seen while touring a Houston relocation site were faring better than before the storm hit.

“What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas,” Barbara Bush said in an interview on Monday with the radio program “Marketplace.” “Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.”

“And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway,” she said, “so this is working very well for them.”

If she thinks badly about Sarah Palin, she should listen to a couple of tapes of the stupid things she has said in life. I’d rather be in the presence of a Sarah Palin who seems to have done much in life, than some stuffy old blue blood who believes she is better than everyone else because of some false sense of grandeur.

  71. The Obama family menu for #happythanksgiving … Turkey, ham, cornbread stuffing, greens, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and … wait for it … mac&cheese.

How common, how he chokes on it because I aint thankful for him.

  72. nomobama,
I remember when Barbara Bush said that….it was beyond contempt. The woman has never known a day without food or shelter. She is so out of touch with the common folk its ridiculous, perhaps thats why America doesn’t seem to care about their own middle class anymore, we keep electing these out of touch elites, that were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and have never worked a day in their lives. Its any wonder these are the same folks who seem to think we can all work until we are 70 years old.

Give me a woman who works every single day of her life, or the one from Alaska who knows what its like to work as hard as a man in a fishing boat. I might listen to either one of them telling me I can work til I’m 70, but when Barbara Bush or Obama say it, it is just so ridiculous because their whole lives they’ve been on vacation!

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  73. Exactly, confloyd. These elites live in a bubble, and then act like everyone else lives in the same bubble as they do. That is why I prefer politicians that have real street cred, and I don’t mean union loyalists who push for a small segment of the US population either. I mean people who will represent the vast majority of Americans.

  74. Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I hope everyone has something to be thankful for today. For me, it’s another day of life which means another day of hope for the future, and not that false hope that Øbama sputters about. If you are alive and kicking, then there is always the possibility that things can change for the better.

  75. I am sorry to see people going after Sarah Palin on this blog recently. Her book is not an attack on Hillary Clinton. I really feel that Sarah does admire Hillary to some extent. They have some ideological differences, but Sarah has been fairly respectable toward Hillary, and Hillary has done the same in return.

  76. nomobama, the thing is, i always look at it as, “if there was ever a huge global disaster, who would survive” and i’m telling you it would be the poor and low workers who know how the scavenge, farm, heat and build things, the western society would die in a week.

If there is ever simple things in life, its learn how to find water and food without the aid of a shop. Most would not have a clue how to build a fire to purify water. Would they know how to cope in permanent loss of electricity, gas and technology.

Life skills and there is a severe lack of it because it is handed to most on a plate.

Happy Thanksgiving. I’ll be very brief, because it’s Thanksgiving.

The FCC is going to vote on the Internet takeover next month. Defying the law and the courts, the FCC will make a power grab, or at least will try to. There’s still time to get loud, get people informed, and get enough popular opposition to this thing going that the FCC might back off. I’m not counting on it, so plan B becomes aggressive legislative action in January. So talk to your members of Congress as well.

Oopposition to the FCC grows though. This is not a partisan matter. Republicans and Democrats in the mainstream both oppose the power grab. It’s only the wealthy, radical socialists and their corporate buddies who stand to benefit in the short run.

The radicals are p retending to support something less than the power grab, but I think that’s just a distraction from what the FCC is about to attempt.

Meanwhile in Europe, people who value their privacy more than Google’s bottom line are suffering targeted vandalism. I already know what Eric Schmidt’s answer to that is: move.

I get your point. Also, if a worldwide disaster were to happen, I don’t think that money would be valued in the same manner as it is today. It could very well become worthless.

  80. Happy Thanksgiving to ADMIN and to all of you on 44.
Have not been communicating lately because the last months have been a hectic time for me, but I NEVER miss reading you!
And I want you to know that the prayer of thanks at my table today will once again include an enthusiastic
Thank God for ADMIN and all of you at hillaryis44.
    And that ain’t fake!

  81. lil ole grape,
And that ain’t fake….that’s right…Admin and this blog are like a second family…sometimes we differ in our opinions and sometimes it might even get a little nasty, but when it comes right down to it…we all respect each other…I mean…how long have we been here anyway?

If that is all Sarah has ever or will ever say about Hillary then its OK, because all it is is just politics. Now if she gets like Tweety and rest then it will over for me with Sarah. I read her book weeks ago and I read that part and did not get all haughty about it. She is after all a republican!

  82. “Michelle On Second Term: “It’s Important He Finish What He Started”

What she means, its important to keep ripping you off and for us to keep going on vacation. Another 4 years, probably would finish us off.

  83. “I would feel guilty that to think because of me, that somebody like him didn’t do what this country needed – MO

That sentence alone pretty much sums it up for me with MO…it is another, “I was never proud of my country until…” (The until was BO and MO became King and Queen of the White House.

MO would feel guilty if she told Barry she wanted to go home, before he was finished kicking the white folks asses, and ‘resetting the button with ‘their kind’ at the top of the food chain.

F the American public, MO and BO only care about the folks they like.

That’s the way I looked at it, too, Confloyd. Big deal. I’ve probably said worse one time or another, and I actually support Hillary Clinton! It doesn’t mean I agree with every single thing that Hillary believes. I simply respect someone who I think has intelligence, and who represents many of the things that I can support. With Øbama, I can’t get past his fake (non-existent) credentials. Also, once I took that quick politics test that showed me on the cusp of libertarian beliefs, I better understand why I feel the way that I do about things.

  85. “I mean… how long have we been here anyway?”
Oh, Con, that’s funny! – a classic line from an adventure movie… here we are, stranded on an island, suffering and striving, surrounded by treacherous waters …waiting, waiting, watching the horizon for signs of a rescue!
… our only hope is Hillary

  86. US ‘to drop color-coded terror alerts’

WASHINGTON — The United States is planning to replace its color-coded terror alert system drafted in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks with detailed threat advisories, media reported Thursday.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has drafted a proposal sent to the White House to end its five-colored system — mocked by critics as a relic of post-9/11 frenzy that caused alarm without explaining the reasons for the alerts.

Instead, it will provide more clarity and guidance in specific alerts, according to the reports.

“The goal is to replace a system that communicates nothing with a system that communicates precise, actionable information based on the latest intelligence,” a senior Homeland Security official told The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Under the existing system, which George W. Bush put in place in 2002, a band of colors ranked the risk of a terror attack, from the lowest level green to blue (guarded risk), yellow (significant), orange (high) and red (severe).

The threat level mostly hovered around the yellow and orange range, never dipping to green or blue. It only reached red once, on August 10, 2006, amid a disrupted Al-Qaeda plot targeting transatlantic flights.

In a sign of just how obsolete it has become, officials told the Post the color has not changed since 2006, remaining orange.

Other agencies, including the Justice Department, are reviewing the new recommendations, the Post said. US officials told the newspaper that the new system would assume heightened public awareness and revolve around two broad threat categories: elevated and imminent.

Imminent threat categories would be in place for not more than a week at a time and, whenever possible, would be supplied with information on the type of threat at hand.

In hinting at how the new system may operate, the officials also pointed to warnings such as a travel alert the State Department issued last month warning US citizens of possible terror attacks in Europe.

Although the alert did not urge travelers to cancel their plans, it cited fresh intelligence that Al-Qaeda was plotting to attack public transportation systems and other attacks.

The new system “could come in the form of a DHS-FBI bulletin to local law enforcement, a briefing to cargo carriers” or a statement from public officials “to residents of a particular metropolitan area,” a Homeland Security official told the Post.

  87. Good old Granny…

Barack Obama’s grandmother ‘prays he converts to Islam’

Barack Obama’s Kenyan grandmother has said she prayed for the US president to convert to Islam, according to reports.

    25 Nov 2010

Sarah Omar, 88, who was on hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, told the Al-Qatan Saudi daily: “I prayed for my grandson Barack to convert to Islam”.

The paper said that Ms Omar was in Saudi Arabia on pilgrimage along with her son, Mr Obama’s uncle Saeed Hussein Obama, and four of her grandchildren.

Ms Omar told the newspaper that she could only discuss hajj matters and would not comment on Mr Obama’s politics.

The family appeared to have been hosted by the Saudi government for hajj. Saeed thanked King Abdullah for his “kind hospitality,” the paper said.

US opinion polls in August found that as many as one in four Americans believe that Mr Obama is a Muslim, a claim categorically denied by the White House which has maintained that he is a “committed Christian.”

  88. Even a fresh START might not be enough to help Obama

    Thu, Nov 25, 2010

President Barack Obama desperately needs a success abroad to shore up his sinking power at home. On Nov. 2, he and his Democratic Party suffered a crushing defeat in congressional elections when the House of Representatives saw 63 Republicans replacing Democrats in districts all over the country. This was the biggest political power turnover since the Great Depression.

The outcome in the Senate, though not so dramatic, was terrible enough to give the White House deep willies because Republicans have slashed the Democratic majority to three seats in the new chamber.

For Obama, this is a cold, cruel world. Not quite two years ago, he basked in unmixed adoration. Americans felt proud they broke the colour barrier at the very top. Canadians applauded — and still do. Germans fell in love with him after his perfectly staged and delivered campaign speech in Berlin in June 2008, and burst with joy when he won the election in November.

Not quite two years on, and Mr. Obama is in trouble. His political stronghold at home has vanished and foreign leaders do not hesitate to send him packing.

Mr. Obama knows there is nothing he can do with Congress for at least two years. He is stuck and, logically enough, he took the well-trod road in search of better fortunes in foreign parts.

But Mr. Obama has a weakness for setting deadlines for what he wants to see happen at home and in the world, and that is problematic. He declares each target — or barrier — an existential moment. This makes good television, but not good sense. What if things happen — as they regularly do? When the sky does not fall once, the miss may go unnoticed; but if it hardly ever falls, the president soon looks like a scarecrow.

The last few days offer a perfect example of the perils of challenging the fates. Beginning late last week, Mr. Obama made ratification of the START arms control treaty with Russia into the fulcrum of national security and world peace. Ratify the treaty or face catastrophe, he and his top officials, on TV screens and front pages, warned Sen. Jon Kyle, the Arizona Republican and incoming chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Mr. Kyle said, “I cannot in good conscience support this treaty” and announced a “hold” on the process.

The “hold” is an informal but deadly practice by which all a senator needs to do is to inform his or her floor leader of the wish that a particular bill should not reach the floor for consideration.

As odd as it may look to Canadians, the “hold” is untouchable.

The lame-duck period of the Congress notwithstanding, Mr. Obama insists on ratification before next Jan. 3 when the new Congress is sworn in.

This looks like a good run at Mission Impossible even to eager treaty supporters, but Mr. Obama put his prestige on the line just the same.

But in addition to that, things happen. North Korea bombarded a South Korean island and created a situation demanding priority attention because artillery fire speaks louder and leaves Mr. Obama no choice.

Never let a good crisis go to waste, says a Washington dictum, and Mr. Obama is using North Korea’s aggression to reinforce his demand for START lest relations deteriorate, but Russia’s help is crucial in taming the reclusive country’s leaders.

Mr. Obama repeats the ploy with respect to preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons. He points to the absolutely essential land route through Russia to Afghanistan. Ratify START or the Russians will stop co-operating.

Mind you, Russia participated in attempts to tame North Korea for the last 10 years, and Iran for only a slightly shorter time, but nobody can point to any good coming out of the effort.

That makes it questionable whether ratifying on Mr. Obama’s time line will make any difference.

But Mr. Obama needs a foreign triumph. He has hardly slept in his own bed since the game-changing congressional elections. He went to India, Korea, Indonesia, Japan and Singapore expecting gains for American exports, but did not manage to close a free-trade agreement with Korea.

Hardly back in Washington and it was time to fly to Europe last Thursday for weekend NATO and European Union-American summits.

Judging by the meagre American media coverage, and even less in Europe, the triumphant Mr. Obama of yesteryear caused hardly a ripple four days ago.

Has he reason to hunger for a glitzy New START? Yes. Will he get it? Probably not. Is his bloom off? Very visibly.

  89. Barack Obama’s grandmother ‘prays he converts to Islam’

what does mean, convert, i’m pretty sure he was born one.

  90. I find it so unusual that since the Fraud came on the scene the U.S. has been distress. Wikileaks about to release some huge cacashe of documents that they say will be bad for the State Dept. hmmm, hmmm!

Obama screwed Hillary over the agreement with Netanyaho…now she has to walk back on her promises….it seems so strange to me, maybe Wbboei is right and he is trying to destroy our country, if not the whole country at least Hillary!

  91. Wbboei, you say that the FCC will make a power grab next month…well Obama placed Clyburn’s daughter as head of that agency, so this will happen and it was pre-planned with the help of South Carolina’s Clyburn. I believe that is where all the fraud took place in the primary and the general and that’s also where GWB smeared John McCain.

There and Chicago. Those are the Achilles heels/

  93. President Barack Obama desperately needs a success abroad to shore up his sinking power at home.
A fallacy. Foreign affairs do not matter to the average American, unless there is a direct attack on the United States. He needs a success at home–not big media hype but a real tangible success to shore up his sinking power at home. And the only one that counts is jobs. And he is as clueless on that front as he is on every other one.

  94. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    Gobble, gobble.
At the Axelrod home the celebrate Thanksgiving the way they do every other day of the year: Goebbels, Goebbels. Traitor Plouffe is always welcome.

  95. I just drove through part of New Port Richey yesterday. This is kind of a conservative area although there are people here from all over the midwest and northeast with a sprinkling of Europeans and Australians, so I am a little surprised by this. Here are two different articles about the same situation. The Tea Party and the Green Party could not be ANY different!

    What a shock – Another leftist terrorist…
Elisa Martinez was arrested by authorities this week for threatening attacks on Broward County Florida schools. Martinez is a far left Green Party member.

In the e-mail tirade sent to conservative radio host Joyce Kaufman in the early hours of Nov. 10, the writer bemoaned illegal immigrants, Jews, Muslims and the “Illuminati” and mentioned former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, according to the complaint.

    Tampa reported:

Federal agents arrested a 48-year-old Pasco County woman in connection to a threat that locked down Broward County schools earlier this month and prompted a top aide to step down from a congressman-elect’s office.

Ellisa Martinez of New Port Richey surrendered late Tuesday to FBI agents near Los Angeles. She is accused of sending an e-mail on Nov. 10 to South Florida conservative radio talk show host Joyce Kaufman, who was tapped to be U.S. Rep.-elect Allen West’s chief of staff.

The e-mail praised Kaufman for encouraging people to “exercise our Second Amendment rights” and said “something big” would happen at a government building in Broward County, maybe a school.

“We’ll end this year of 2010 in a blaze of glory for sure,” the e-mail said, according to federal investigators.

The following morning, a woman called the radio station, WFTL 850 AM in South Florida, and reported her husband had sent the threatening e-mail. The woman added that her husband was going to a school in Pembroke Pines to carry out a shooting and asked the station to broadcast a plea to her husband to not do it.

Schools in Pembroke Pines were immediately put under lockdown. Several hours later, the Broward School District — the nation’s sixth-largest — opted to do the same with all its schools. Several private and parochial schools followed the lead. All in all, more than 230,000 children were affected. Until dismissal time, students were prevented from leaving their classrooms except by escort. Parents and visitors were not allowed into the schools.

Investigators say they tracked down Martinez the day the threat was made by tracing the e-mail and telephone call to New Port Richey. She denied making the threat. Martinez told agents she had temporarily lost her phone at a local cafe that morning and that her home computer was unsecured. When agents went to get a search warrant for Martinez’s phone and computer, she was able to slip out and not return, according to the federal documents.

Investigators seized a computer from her home and they found evidence that the e-mail to the radio station came from it, authorities said.

Apparently, Martinez was inspired to make the threats after watching Joyce Kaufman in a tape played on Rachel Maddow’s Show a few night’s earlier.

Oops! ‘Rightwing’ Terror Suspect Turns Out to Be a…Leftwinger
    By P.J. Gladnick | November 24, 2010 | 21:20

It seems that whenever you hear about a “rightwing” hate crime nowadays, it turns out the the perpetrator turns out to be a leftwinger…much to the disappointment of liberals who continue to maintain the fiction about a violent Tea Party movement. And the latest case of a violent “rightwinger” who turns out to really be a leftwinger comes from my own county of Broward here in South Florida. With my condolences to the left who have been “robbed” of yet another example of supposed Tea Party “hate crime,” here is a report on the arrest of the suspect by Bob Norman of the Broward Palm Beach New Times:

The woman charged by the FBI with making a threat that led to the lockdown of more than 300 Broward County schools after hearing the words of right-wing talker Joyce Kaufman isn’t a member of the Tea Party — she’s a member of the Green Party.

Oops! And since Bob Norman is hardly a conservative (note his “right-wing talker” description of Joyce Kaufman whom you can see in the photo) he isn’t exactly trying to cover up for the Tea Party. Despite Norman’s political leanings, he is honest enough to present the “brutal” truth for those quick to accuse some “crazed conservative” of the crime:

Martinez feigned agreement with the fiery arch-conservative rhetoric of Kaufman and Sarah Palin, but she’s she’s officially on the other side of the ledger. According to the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Office, Martinez is a member of the Green Party, a progressive left-wing group focused on environmental issues.

The FBI says that after Martinez saw a tape on MSNBC of Kaufman at a July 3 Tea Party rally, she fired off a threatening email that led to a lockdown at all Broward County schools. During the speech, Kaufman made her now-infamous statement that “if ballots don’t work, bullets will.”

…The threatening email was sent to Kaufman at the radio station, and Kaufman, a former liberal, has hinted repeatedly that the email was a hoax from a left-wing activist, not a declaration of war from one of her Tea Party adherents.

And guess what? Joyce Kaufman was 100% correct. However, it doesn’t take much in the way of prophetic abilities to have predicted who the suspected perpetrator would turn out to be. Your humble correspondent had the same suspicion the instant he heard about the threat on the news. So when you hear about a probable “rightwing” terror threat, the type of person you should immediately suspect would be from the other end of the political spectrum since that is the trend the past few years. A big clue was the dopey e-mail the suspect sent to Kaufman which pretty much points an arrow at the not-so-hidden leftwing sympathies of the author:

“dear ms. kaufman, i was so thrilled to see you speak in person for congressman elect west. i was especially exited to hear you encourage us to exercise our second amendment gun rights. i felt your plan to organize people with guns in the hills of Kentucky and else where was a great idea. i know that you know one election is not enough to take our country back from the illegal aliens, jews, muslims, and illuminati who are running the show. i am so glad you support people who think like me. I’m planning something big around a government building here in Broward County, maybe a post office, maybe even a school, i’m going to walk in and teach all the government hacks working there what the 2nd amendment is all about. Can I count on your help?”

Another line in the email referred to Sarah Palin: “what does Sarah say, don’t retreat, reload! Let’s make headlines girl!”

So what was the motivation behind the threat? Bob Norman theorizes on her pathetic reasoning:

Martinez’s email stunt was just that — a stunt, a very bad and dangerous attempt at media-driven performance art likely meant to show what she believed was the natural consequence of Kaufman’s own dangerous words. Whether authorities in Broward overreacted or not, she went too far, and now she’ll be prosecuted by the federal government.

Of course, the usual suspects eagerly bought into the notion of a “crazed teabagger” behind the threat. Some sample comments from the Daily Kos when this story first broke:

Apparently, the terrorist threatening to shoot children at school’s and government buildings had been inspired to do so after seeing Kaufman in a tape played on Rachel Maddow’s Show a few night’s ago.

…As we all know, this type of thing is nothing new, and is happening with increasing frequency, spurred on by the Glenn Becks and Rush Limbaughs of the world. And what we know is equally true is that not a single Republican will call these insane terrorists and their sponsors onto the carpet for it.

Even more laughable than the completely incorrect call by the Daily Kos is the Democratic Underground continuing to stubbornly stick to the “crazed teabagger” fiction even AFTER the story about the arrest of the suspect broke. Some divorced from reality comments from the DUers starting with the very title of their thread:

Fla. Tea Bagger Woman Accused In School Threats Arrested

More TeaTerror…Let’s List the violent attacks by the Right Wingers

A much longer list would be a list of violent attacks by “Right Wingers” who actually turn out to be Left Wingers.

    Who Fed the Tiger?
    by Patrick J. Buchanan
    Trackback Link

Missiles fired from the Chinese mainland could destroy five of the six major U.S. air bases in the Far East. So states a new report of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, adding:

“Saturation missile strikes could destroy U.S. air defenses, runways, parked aircraft, and fuel and maintenance facilities. Complicating this scenario is the future deployment of China’s anti-ship ballistic missile, which could hold U.S. aircraft carriers at bay outside their normal operating range.”

Opposite Taiwan, China’s missile force has reached 1,600.

Beijing is also building rockets, submarines and surface fleets to extend her dominance out to the third chain of islands, enabling the People’s Liberation Army to strike U.S. carriers and bases as far away as Guam.

Since the demise of the blue-water navy of Russian Adm. Sergei Gorshkov, the Pacific has been an American lake. No more.

China lays claim to all the Paracel and Spratly islands of the South China Sea, all the Senkakus in the East China Sea, and all the oil and gas beneath and around those islets and reefs.

America’s offer to mediate these claims, which involve half a dozen other anxious Asian nations, has been rudely rebuffed by Beijing.

At the G20 gathering in Seoul, South Korea, Barack Obama got an earful from China about the Fed sinking the dollar and learned that Beijing would not be revaluing its currency to help with our chronic trade deficits.

As China holds a huge share of U.S. debt, Obama is not about to get sassy with our banker, who might just cut off the credit America, running a budget deficit of 10 percent of gross domestic product, desperately needs.

Napoleon said of the Middle Kingdom, “Let (China) sleep, for when she wakes, she will shake the world.” The shaking has begun.

So the question arises: Who put us in this predicament? Who awakened, fed and nurtured this tiger to where she is growling at all Asia and baring her teeth at the United States? Answer: the free trade uber alles Republicans.

Richard Nixon opened China. His 1972 Shanghai communique pointed inexorably to what Jimmy Carter did in 1979: break relations and abrogate our security pact with Taiwan, and recognize the People’s Republic as the sole legitimate government of China.

In 1982, the Ronald Reagan White House signed on to a communique with Deng Xiaoping’s China by which we agreed to reduce and eventually end all arms sales to Taiwan as tensions in the strait diminished.

Under George H.W. Bush, Beijing’s crushing of the Tiananmen Square protest with tanks was not allowed to interfere with business.

Repeatedly, Republicans voted to extend most-favored-nation status to China. Dissenters were castigated as “isolationists and protectionists.”

Under Bush II, the GOP made MFN permanent and sponsored Beijing’s entry into the World Trade Organization, despite China’s downing of a U.S. surveillance plane and incarceration of its American crew on Hainan Island. Colin Powell was forced to apologize.

For decades, corporate America championed investing in China and trade with China, though the massive transfer of U.S. factories, technologies and jobs was clearly empowering China and weakening America.

Now, with U.S. political, military, industrial and strategic decline vis a vis China manifest to the world, we hear the wails of American businessmen that they are not being treated fairly by the Chinese. And the politicians responsible for building up China are now talking tough about confronting and containing China.

Sorry, but that cat cannot be walked back.

Review commission chair Dan Slane says his members have concluded that “China is adopting a highly discriminatory policy of favoring domestic producers over foreign manufacturers. Under the guise of fostering ‘indigenous innovation’ … the government of China appears determined to exclude foreigners from bidding on government contracts at the central, provincial and local levels.”

Imagine that! The Chinese are ignoring WTO rules and putting China first. Don’t they understand how the Global Economy works? You’re not supposed to tilt the field in favor of the home team.

One knows not whether to laugh or cry.

The policy the Chinese are pursuing, economic nationalism, was virtually invented by the Republican Party. Protectionism was the declared policy of the GOP from the day its first president took office in 1861 to the day Calvin Coolidge left in 1929.

Free trade was the policy of a Great Britain whose clocks those generations of Americans cleaned, even as the Chinese are cleaning ours.

As for a U.S. policy of containment, we have no vital interest in China’s border dispute with India, or Beijing’s claims to islands in the South and East China seas, or in China’s claims against Russia dating to the ninth century.

Time for our Asians friends to take responsibility for defending their own claims. As LBJ said in 1964, “We are not about to send Americans boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.” This time, let’s mean it.

The day of the globalist has come and gone.

  98. This is so troubling…

Britain on its knees, with a human rights noose round its neck

It is hard to overstate how much of a disaster for both Britain and the west is the British government’s decision – all but buried under yesterday’s Royal wedding media hysteria – to award an unspecified sum of compensation, estimated variously between £10 million and £30 million, to 16 former detainees of Guantánamo Bay to avoid running up a £50 million legal bill if their cases went to court, and to avoid the security service being forced to compromise its intelligence sources.

And what was the reason the British government faced this court case? Why, the ex-Guantanamo inmates claimed British complicity with torture. Not that the British committed torture, but that they were complicit with it. They claim that the UK fed information and questions to their interrogators, or gave information to the CIA so it could arrest British suspects overseas where they were tortured.

What was the torture to which they were subjected in Guantanamo and elsewhere? Well, there are a lot of claims but nothing, other than in three cases overall at Guantanamo, has ever been convincingly proved to be anything other than claims made by terrorist suspects. Those three were water-boarded.

  99. Hillary Clinton: Engage men and boys in eliminating violence against women

By HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON. US SECRETARY OF STATE, Courtesy of the US Consulate General Vancouver November 25, 2010

Ending violence against women is not the work of a day or even a year. It will require concentrated efforts on many fronts with governments, non-profit organizations, and citizen leaders all pulling together. Most importantly, it will require fully tapping the largest and most natural group of allies women have: men.

One in three women around the world will experience gender-based violence in her lifetime. In some countries, that number is as high as 70 percent. Whether it happens behind closed doors or as a public tactic of intimidation, violence against women has consequences for the entire community – men and women alike. When women are abused, businesses close, incomes shrink, families go hungry, and children grow up internalizing beliefs and behaviors that perpetuate the cycle of violence. A community that is unsafe for women is unsafe for everyone. On the other hand, protecting and educating girls contributes to economic growth and helps entire countries prosper.

So men and boys have an interest in ending violence against women. They are also uniquely positioned to help do it. In societies where women are marginalized, men can make the case for nonviolence and gender equality. They can challenge harmful cultural practices that enable gender discrimination. I often say that we need to empower women because no country can make economic progress if it leaves half the population behind. It’s just as true that no country can stop violence against women with the other half of the population sitting on the sidelines.

There are stories from all over the world demonstrating how men and boys can get involved and speak out against gender-based violence. One group based in Senegal, Tostan, has taken this approach to changing the dangerous custom of female genital cutting. This severely painful practice can cause hemorrhaging, infection, increased risk during childbirth, infertility, or even death. Tostan learned that abandoning this centuries-old tradition needed to be a collective and community-led decision with the participation of male leaders. So they organized a discussion for the entire village where men and boys could hear their mothers and sisters describe the pain and health problems associated with it. Eventually, the village voted to end the practice.

But the story doesn’t end there. The male leaders then traveled to other villages to explain how harmful female genital cutting is, and those villages also voted to end the practice. Within two years, Senegal’s government passed a law banning it, and today Tostan has helped nearly 5,000 communities across Senegal, Guinea, The Gambia, Burkina Faso, and Somalia decide to abandon the tradition.

In Afghanistan, male civic and religious leaders are helping raise awareness and change deeply ingrained attitudes about women. The example of a local Mufti in Jalalabad is particularly striking. For years, he taught his followers that human rights were a western imposition that violated Islam. Then he attended a training workshop with 250 other local Afghan leaders focusing on the rights of women, family, and children in the context of Muslim teachings. Their discussions highlighted the benefits of gender equality and the importance of respect and tolerance for diversity in Islam. Today that Mufti has not only changed his beliefs, he frequently speaks out on rights-based issues during Friday prayer services and on his regional radio program. He has become a powerful voice supporting women in Afghanistan.

At the United States Department of State, we are taking action on the ground: working with NGOs to ensure men’s engagement in preventing violence against women, promoting women’s economic and entrepreneurial opportunities, and training peacekeepers on gender-based violence awareness and prevention activities. In places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, where mass rape is blatantly and repeatedly used as a weapon of war, we are helping make sure that both men and women are working to investigate sexual violence and prioritize the
    protection of women and girls.

November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It is a day to recommit ourselves to the cause of changing attitudes and ending all forms of violence against women. This year also marks the 15th anniversary of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing where the world declared the critical connection between women’s rights and human rights, and the 10th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on the links between women, peace, and security. This is a stark reminder that eliminating gender discrimination and violence against women is a long-term struggle and a commitment we must all make together. With men and women working hand in hand, we can end the epidemic of gender-based violence, one person and one community at a time.

When you think about this, the US actually has the upper hand in some respects. China may hold much of our debt, but the US could walk away from it. Either way, the US is going to get a hurting, but if the US walks away from paying back China, then China gets hurt, too.

    Kim, Clinton reaffirm stern stance

    By Kang Hyun-kyung

Seoul and Washington shared the view Thursday that the forthcoming joint naval exercise in waters off the West Sea will send a strong message to North Korea with regard to its shelling of Yeongpyeong Island.

The consensus came during a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Sung-hwan and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Thursday.

Kim Young-sun, spokesman for the foreign ministry, told reporters that Clinton delivered her deep condolences for the victims of the North’s artillery attack Tuesday.

Two Marines and two civilians were killed during the North’s bombardment. Several marines and residents on the island were injured.

The two top diplomats shared information on the rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula after the North’s latest belligerent act and exchanged views on possible solutions.

“Kim and Clinton agreed to work even more closely together to deal with North Korea,” the foreign ministry spokesman said.

“The forthcoming naval drills will demonstrate a stalwart Korea-U.S. alliance.”

The joint naval exercise will start this Sunday and continue until Wednesday.

Canada won’t attend Durban anti-Israel hatefest

If only we had leadership like this in the United States. “Canada won’t attend Durban racism ‘hatefest,’ Kenney calls it ‘charade,'” from The Canadian Press, November 25 (thanks to Ima):

OTTAWA – Canada will not attend a United Nations conference on racism next year, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said Thursday.
“Our government has lost faith in the Durban process,” Kenney told a news conference. “Canada will not participate in this charade. We will not lend our good name to this Durban hatefest.

“Canada is clearly committed to the fight against racism, but the Durban process commemorates an agenda that actually promotes racism rather than combats it.”

The New York conference next September, dubbed “Durban III,” is intended to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2001 meeting in South Africa aimed at defeating racism.

Canada and other countries walked out of that conference after Iran and several countries began ganging up on Israel.

The conference, which ended days before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, produced the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.

The 62-page document raises 122 “general issues,” among them “concern about the plight of the Palestinian people under foreign occupation.” It “recognizes the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the right to an independent state.”

But most offensive to Canada and several other countries were speeches laced with anti-Israeli rhetoric. Canada led a boycott of Durban II in Geneva last year, where Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad railed against the Jewish state….

Palestinian held for Facebook criticism of Islam

QALQILIYA, West Bank – A mysterious blogger who set off an uproar in the Arab world by claiming he was God and hurling insults at the Prophet Muhammad is now behind bars — caught in a sting that used Facebook to track him down.

The case of the unlikely apostate, a shy barber from this backwater West Bank town, is highlighting the limits of tolerance in the Western-backed Palestinian Authority — and illustrating a new trend by authorities in the Arab world to mine social media for evidence.

Residents of Qalqiliya say they had no idea that Walid Husayin — the 26-year-old son of a Muslim scholar — was leading a double life.

Known as a quiet man who prayed with his family each Friday and spent his evenings working in his father’s barbershop, Husayin was secretly posting anti-religion rants on the Internet during his free time.

Now, he faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for “insulting the divine essence.” Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam, and even family members say he should remain behind bars for life.

“He should be burned to death,” said Abdul-Latif Dahoud, a 35-year-old Qalqiliya resident. The execution should take place in public “to be an example to others,” he added.

Over several years, Husayin is suspected of posting arguments in favor of atheism on English and Arabic blogs, where he described the God of Islam as having the attributes of a “primitive Bedouin.” He called Islam a “blind faith that grows and takes over people’s minds where there is irrationality and ignorance.”

If that wasn’t enough, he is also suspected of creating three Facebook groups in which he sarcastically declared himself God and ordered his followers, among other things, to smoke marijuana in verses that spoof the Muslim holy book, the Quran. At its peak, Husayin’s Arabic-language blog had more than 70,000 visitors, overwhelmingly from Arab countries.

His Facebook groups elicited hundreds of angry comments, detailed death threats and the formation of more than a dozen Facebook groups against him, including once called “Fight the blasphemer who said `I am God.'”

The outburst of anger reflects the feeling in the Muslim world that their faith is under mounting attack by the West. This sensitivity has periodically turned violent, such as the street protests that erupted in 2005 after cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad were published in Denmark or after Pope Benedict XVI suggested the Prophet Muhammad was evil the following year. The pope later retracted his comment.

Husayin is the first to be arrested in the West Bank for his religious views, said Tayseer Tamimi, the former chief Islamic judge in the area.

The Western-backed Palestinian Authority is among the more religiously liberal Arab governments in the region. It is dominated by secular elites and has frequently cracked down on hardline Muslims and activists connected to its conservative Islamic rival, Hamas.

Husayin’s high public profile and prickly style, however, left authorities no choice but to take action.

Husayin used a fake name on his English and Arabic-language blogs and Facebook pages. After his mother discovered articles on atheism on his computer, she canceled his Internet connection in hopes that he would change his mind.

Instead, he began going to an Internet cafe — a move that turned out to be a costly mistake. The owner, Ahmed Abu-Asal, said the blogger aroused suspicion by spending up to seven hours a day in a corner booth. After several months, a cafe worker supplied captured snapshots of his Facebook pages to Palestinian intelligence officials.

Officials monitored him for several weeks and then arrested him on Oct. 31 as he sat in the cafe, said Abu-Asal.

Husayin’s family has been devastated by the arrest. On a recent day, his father stood sadly in the family barber shop, cluttered with colorful towels and posters of men in outdated haircuts. He requested that a reporter not write about his son to avoid being publicly shamed.

Two cousins attributed the writings to depression, saying Husayin was desperate to find better work. Requesting anonymity because of the shame the incident, they said Husayin’s mother wants him to remain in prison for life — both to restore the family’s honor and to protect him from vigilantes.

The case is the second high-profile arrest connected in the West Bank connected to Facebook activity. In late September, a reporter for a news station sympathetic to Hamas was arrested and detained for more than a month after he was tagged in a Facebook image that insulted the Palestinian president.

Gaza’s Hamas rulers also stalk Facebook pages of suspected dissenters, said Palestinian rights activist Mustafa Ibrahim. He said Internet cafe owners are forced to monitor customers’ online activity, and alert intelligence officials if they see anything critical of the militant group or that violates Hamas’ stern interpretation of Islam.

Both governments also create fake Facebook profiles to befriend and monitor known dissidents, activists said. In September, a young Gaza man was detained after publishing an article critical of Hamas on his Facebook feed.

Such “stalking” on Facebook and other social media sites has become increasingly common in the Arab world. In Lebanon, four people were arrested over the summer and accused of slandering President Michel Suleiman on Facebook. All have been released on bail.

In neighboring Syria, Facebook is blocked altogether. And in Egypt, a blogger was charged with atheism in 2007 after intelligence officials monitored his posts.

Husayin has not been charged but remains in detention, said Palestinian security spokesman Adnan Damiri.

He could face a life sentence if he’s found guilty, depending on how harshly the judge thinks he attacked Islam and how widely his views were broadcast, said Islamic scholar Tamimi.

Even so, a small minority has questioned whether the government went too far.

Zainab Rashid, a liberal Palestinian commentator, wrote in an online opinion piece that Husayin has made an important point: “that criticizing religious texts for their (intellectual) weakness can only be combatted by … oppression, prison and execution.”

A Pennsylvania Jewish group Wednesday introduced in federal court a letter from an IRS agent to another, unnamed organization, which tax experts said was inappropriate for an IRS inquiry.

Does your organization support the existence of the land of Israel? IRS agent Tracy Dornette wrote the organization, as part of its consideration of the organization’s application for tax exempt status.

Describe your organization’s religious belief system toward the land of Israel.

According to Ben Smith, writing in, the document emerged in the course of a lawsuit filed in August by Z Street.

The group casts itself as the Zionist answer to the liberal J Street.

Z Street claims that a different IRS agent reviewing its application for tax exempt status said that the agency is carefully scrutinizing organizations that are in any way connected with Israel.

A special unit is determining whether its activities contradict the administration’s public policies, a spokesman for Z street said.

The IRS has sought to dismiss Z Street’s claim on technical grounds.

A Z street spokesman said he could not immediately comment on the new filing.

Oh, right. We get ex-gays too. Telling all about the ‘gay agenda.’

I’ll look for a link to some legitimate overview of Islam.

  119. Palestinian held for Facebook criticism of Islam…
    How about England:

“What is wrong with people? It’s just a frackin’ book!

A 15-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of inciting religious hatred after allegedly burning an English-language version of the Qur’an — and then posting video footage of the act on Facebook.

No. It is obscene to start jailing people for destroying their own books, simply because some oversensitive wackos think it is magical. Apparently, this girl burned it on school property, though — call her on creating a fire hazard. But not for contradicting someone’s delusions.

Why is it that religious fundamentalists have persecution complexes??? If this country had a hate speech law, it would be the evangelicals who would be crying “hate speech”. IMO, a religion isn’t worth much if it requires “that criticizing religious texts for their (intellectual) weakness can only be combatted by … oppression, prison and execution.”

    Two things:

    1) I’m gay, and believe it or not, there is a gay agenda. To deny what one can easily see is foolish. Actually, there are competing agendas, but it seems that the most vocal are from the segment of the gay population that does not speak for me.
    2) I don’t take lightly what Nonie Darwish has to say about Islam. I think she is reputable. What she had to say as a warning to Americans about Islam is something that should not be cast aside as nonsense. She is telling us what she knows. Putting your head in the sand is not going to help you.

Question to you: What does Nonie Darwish gain from exposing herself as an apostate?

  121. With this wikileak stuff, the thing you worry about is not so much caustic descriptions of foreign leaders (let him who hath not sinned cast the first stone), but rather the revelation of sensitive information. But if sensitive information is to be released I hope it relates the the Saudis who are famous for telling us one thing in private and the opposite in public. They are worse than that bald headed idiot Pattrick Leheay. And that is pretty bad. At a time when the status of our currency is at risk and our claim to leadership has been more tenuous than at any time in our history with Obama as president, this is not exactly what we need. If he was not a messiah, I would be mighty worried.

  122. “If he was not a messiah, I would be mighty worried.”

Yes indeed, Wbboei, it’s always good to end the day with a laugh!

  123. Obama as president, this is not exactly what we need. If he was not a messiah,
A little sunlight on the pile of rotting garbage in DC might be very helpful. Politics as usual certainly isn’t working.

  124. What is the gay agenda? And, is it something that primarily the activists are into?

Gays tell me it’s something like:

    1. get up
    2. go to work
    3. dinner with family
    4. go to bed

I expect the Islam Agenda is pretty much the same. 😉

  125. What does Nonie Darwish gain from exposing herself as an apostate?

Worth putting her life in danger? Nothing.

Worth CLAIMING her life is in danger? Attention, a book deal….

“The story I’m hearing from insiders is that we don’t actually anticipate the president to attend the wedding,” Sean said. “But we do think, for that extra type of glamour, the gorgeous Michelle Obama will be making an appearance.”

Sean says who the first lady might bring as an alternate guest “remains to be seen.”

Still, he adds that the president may not wish to attend because of the huge security entourage he requires.

“That may be a little bit more intrusive [than the royal family wants], I think.”

Oh just send Bill and Hillary, these 2 clowns don’t deserve an invite.

  127. Anyone wanna hazard a guess that because he’d get no attention is the reason Bambi aint going to the Royal wedding, its another what about me moment.

On to more news threatening the Republic of the United States of America:
University students across Texas this week joined San Antonio students in a hunger strike aimed at pressuring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison to vote for the DREAM Act, a bill that would provide a path to citizenship for students and soldiers brought to the country illegally as children. Started two weeks ago by a dozen students at the University of Texas at San Antonio, the hunger strike spread this week to UT campuses in Austin, Dallas, Arlington, Brownsville and Edinburg, as well as the University of North Texas in Denton, according to members of DREAM Act NOW!, the UTSA student group that organized the strike. The group is part of a national coalition called United We DREAM, which brings together activists in each state. Universities in Florida and Indiana have also begun striking in solidarity, members said. “Now that they have seen we are still going and not planning to stop, some have joined us,” said Claudia Sanchez, one of the UTSA strikers. Sanchez, 29, is a U.S. citizen, but many of her fellow strikers are in the country illegally. snip Hutchison met with a DREAM Act activist in Washington last week in hopes the meeting would end the hunger strike, according to a spokeswoman. Sanchez said San Antonio strikers want a face-to-face meeting with Hutchison when she comes home to Texas for the holidays. “We want to start talking about the specifics of the DREAM Act so she can tell us exactly what she doesn’t agree with,” Sanchez said. “We are giving her until Thanksgiving. If not, we are going to start stepping up our campaign. We will put more pressure on her.” In a statement issued Tuesday, Hutchison said she would not support the current bill because it “goes far beyond the intended group of children who grew up in the U.S. and attended primary and secondary schools here.”
Hutchison is concerned for the safety and welfare of the students, but has already met with people from many parts of Texas on the issue and does not plan change her position, the statement said. Sanchez said she hoped Congress would vote on the bill next week during the lame-duck session. The act would provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants brought to the country before the age of 16. To be eligible, the immigrants must have no criminal record and either attend college or serve in the military for two years. It would likely benefit about 825,000 immigrants, the vast majority under the age of 35, according to the Migration Policy Institute.

  130. Texas Republicans protest plan to move National Guard troops off the border

Republican congressmen from Texas on Friday objected to the Obama administration plans to withdraw National Guard troops from the borders of Texas, New Mexico and California by the end of February.
The Texas Republicans also called on the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection agency to cancel its planned restart of the Alien Transfer and Exit Program, under which illegal immigrants detained by police are sent from other states to Del Rio, Texas, to await transfer to Mexican authorities.

A letter outlining the lawmakers’ objections, signed by 18 of Texas’ 20 Republican congressmen, was delivered to the White House Friday.

“We are aware of your plan to end the National Guard deployment in Texas, fewer than six months after the beginning of operations, and we strongly object to this action,” the letter states. “Until the border is secured, this course of action seriously jeopardizes our national security and unnecessarily puts Americans at risk.”

DHS officials told The Examiner that the plan to withdraw National Guard troops by the end February has not been vetted at the top levels of the department. The proposal came from field personnel and had not been “signed off by the appropriate chain of command,” DHS officials said. “This one has not even been seen by (Customs and Border Protection) leadership, let alone DHS,” the official said.

Officials with the Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s office, which released a detailed letter of the administration’s plans to the Texas congressional delegation Thursday, said the discussion took place with Customs and Border Protection officials. “We received CBP correspondence that this plan was moving forward,” said Katherine Cesinger, deputy spokeswoman for Gov. Perry. “We have every reason to believe that this was a solid plan and it raised major concerns in our office.”

The 286 Texas National Guard troops sent by the administration to the border have only been fully operational since September. Texas Republicans want 1,000 more troops deployed “to support ongoing Texas border security efforts,” the letter to the Obama states.

“The violence along the border has not decreased,” the letter says. “The recent murder at Falcon Lake is a stark example that the security situation on the border still requires National Guard presence.” A Mexican investigator was killed and his severed head delivered to the Mexican military in October.

The plan to pull the troops off the border was relayed by Perry’s office to the Texas Congressional delegation. He cited discussions with federal officials.

“In February, 2011, the Texas, New Mexico and California National Guard forces that were deployed to the border in September, 2010, under President’s Obama’s Southwest Border Augmentation Plan, will have 30 days to complete a total draw down of forces,” the letter from the governor’s office states.

The roughly 550 troops will have the month of February to redeploy back to their units, Texas Congressman Ted Poe told The Examiner. Poe received the letter Thursday. His office confirmed with Department of Homeland Security officials that the plan came from the DHS.

“It’s apparently a plan the Obama administration believes will save money. We don’t need fewer National Guard, we need more. We need to pass the Border National Guard Border Enforcement Act that would put 10,000 National Guard on the border,” Poe said.

Obama’s original Southwest border plan would have ended in July 2011.

According to officials familiar with the new initiative the “administration budgeted only $135 million for the entire deployment.” The funds, originally budgeted for those three states, are expected to be reallocated to allow Arizona an additional 100 troops from March through September 2011 or “until such time as that money is exhausted,” the letter from the governor’s office stated.

Israel: “High percentage” of women murdered by husbands are Muslims, police do little-

Israeli police appear to be hesitant to interfere in cases of domestic violence among Muslims; perhaps they’re afraid of being labeled “Islamophobic.” This story shows that such political correctness does nothing but endanger women. “‘Inaction puts Arab women at risk from domestic violence,'” by Ruth Eglash in the Jerusalem Post, November 24 (thanks to all who sent this in):

As official figures showed that a high percentage of women murdered last year by their husbands or partners were from the Arab community, Itach (Women Lawyers for Social Justice) released statistics on Wednesday showing that only about half of the 200 complaints police received about domestic violence were passed on for prosecution.
“It’s important to be aware that the women murdered do not represent the full picture. The full picture is the thousands of women who live in fear that they will be murdered,” said lawyer Keren Shemesh-Perlmuter, director of Itach.

“We see from the statistics that many Arab women turn to the police, but their complaints are not dealt with properly,” she said. “This means that women who are trapped in a cycle of violence have nowhere to turn. They keep it to themselves and either are killed or end up suffering for many years.”

Shemesh-Perlmuter said that “even if they do complain, the process goes on forever and ever, and in nearly half the cases, the police simply close the case.

This means that other women are reluctant to come forward and lodge complaints in cases of domestic violence.”

According to the Itach’s findings, out of 148 detectives specially trained to work in domestic violence cases, only 33 can speak Arabic, 10 are from the Arab community and only two are Arab women.

“This makes it even more difficult for Arab women to feel comfortable about reporting domestic abuse,” Shemesh- Perlmuter said. “It also means that the police are not equipped to properly investigate the cases, and in 50 percent of them, it ends up being the woman’s word against the man.” […]

Official figures released on Wednesday – a day ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – revealed that 18 women were murdered by their husbands or partners so far this year; seven of them were from the country’s 1.5- million-strong Arab population.

Murkowski says Miller’s lawsuit puts her Senate seniority in jeopardy.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) called for a quick resolution to Joe Miller’s legal challenge Wednesday, warning that if she isn’t seated by January 3, she could lose her Senate seniority.

According to the AP, lawyers for Murkowski sought to intervene in the lawsuit Wednesday arguing that not certifying the election results will leave the state without full representation when the new Congress convenes in January.

“There are numerous critical issues facing our nation and Alaskans deserve to have full representation in the United States Senate,” Murkowski attorney Scott M. Kendall wrote.

In the motion to intervene in the case, Kendall argued that Murkowski would drop “from her current rank of 43rd to 100th,” if she isn’t sworn in at the start of the year.

Miller lawsuit claims the state applied a faulty and arbitrary “voter intent” standard to the counting of write-in ballots and wants thousands of ballots thrown out due to improper spelling of Murkowski’s name or other irregularities.

Miller lawsuit claims the state applied a faulty and arbitrary “voter intent” standard to the counting of write-in ballots and wants thousands of ballots thrown out due to improper spelling of Murkowski’s name or other irregularities.

Murkowski was declared the winner last week. She leads Miller by more than 10,000 votes and has room to spare even if all of the write-in ballots challenged by Miller were to be thrown out by a judge.

Pressure is still building on Miller to give up his legal fight. In an interview that will air on C-SPAN Sunday, former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) said, “I think that race is over,” urging Miller to call it quits.

Feisal argues that American Muslims are uniquely positioned to lead constructive dialog between the US because they understand both the aspirations and the pain of both sides. His writings, most notably the 2004 book, What’s Right With Islam: A New Vision for Muslims and the West. The foreword by noted theologian Karen Armstrong recalls that Muslim intellectuals once regarded Western-style democracy as fully compatible with Muslim ideals. Interestingly, she says, these Muslim admirers talked about seeing “Islam without Muslims” in Europe and “Muslims without Islam” in some ostensibly Muslim countries.
Rauf’s book argues that Muslims were on a path toward creating their own version of this kind of modern nation state, but took a wrong turn several centuries ago, leading to the persistence of practices and attitudes from the feudal era. That wrong turn, he argues was dictated by politics, not theology, and delayed Islam’s evolution from pre-modernism to modernism. Colonialism exacerbated the problem, so that since independence, Muslims have been trying to figure out how to live out a modern version of their faith in both religious and civil society. It ends with a fatwa, or clerical decree, authorizing Muslum service personnel to take up arms against the Taliban in Afghanistan.
. While the word “Shariah” conjures up horrific images of women being stoned and men having their hands chopped off for petty thievery, Rauf contends that the essential requirements of Shariah law have to do with social justice, and the barbaric practices that we read about are a result of the arrested development of those specific cultures. The project had brought together Islamic legal scholars in an effort to work out a modern Islamic version of the western concept of separation of church and state.

  138. Just a hello and goodbye for a day or so as I go back to Europe to clear out my bro’s house for extended honeymoon…

Hope your Thanksgivings were as pleasant as mine – Went to the cousins in Livingstone and brought gallons of applejack for all. No political talk except people wondering about how I would fare with the pat-downs at the airport. Bye now…

  139. Republican congressmen from Texas on Friday objected to the Obama administration plans to withdraw National Guard troops from the borders of Texas, New Mexico and California by the end of February.
The Administration’s move to station troops on the border in the first place was strictly an election ploy.

Started two weeks ago by a dozen students at the University of Texas at San Antonio, the hunger strike spread this week
Anyone can go on a hunger strike. It is sometimes called a diet. They only way to make a difference is to starve themselves to death. Now that I am in favor of. Anything less will be dismissed as a sophomoric stunt.

  141. turndown, get over yourself and stop posting Extremeist Muslim propaganda. Extr-Muslims hate the West, Christians and America.

All this coming from you when you have never been on the coherent side of an argument.

The fact is you can’t even be bothered to upgrade your computer to see videos. You prefer living in the dark ages posting from a cave.

  142. It will be interesting to see what our new Republican Gov will do if that happens. She made a lot of promises. She sounded a lot like O.

  143. This wikileaks drama is confusing and scary at the same time for me. Are they trying to hold the world hostage with their threats and exposures?

And will the content be so sensitive as to possible topple regimes or pit country against country?
Jan, between you and me, you may be the wiser head. But the way I feel is le bon temps roule. 144. “The Administration’s move to station troops on the border in the first place was strictly an election ploy.”

The Imperialist can spend $200 mil a day on himself- but when the funding runs out for border patrols… thats it- our borders will be left unprotected.

  145. And if at the end of this process Bambi is seen as a pariah in the eyes of the world, then that would be the best thing for the world, and the best thing for the long term interests of the United States. I am not certain that it will take that direction but I am willing to take the risk. The latest verdict on his lack of effective leadership was the rejection of his economic plans on his European trip, and just the other day, the decision by China and Russia to trade in their own currencies rather than the dollar.

  146. What I would anticipate next year is a recovery–on paper. That is because inventories are low and there is pent up demand. But tragically, and megapolitically it will not make a dent in the unemployment situation. One of the many things that will need to change is the tax laws. At this point, domestic manufacturing is taxed at a punitive rate whereas foreign manufacturing is not. This has caused one company which had $24 billion in gross sales to shut down its factories and become an environmental company with a mere $4 billion in sales. There is a long term path back to prosperity, if we are willing to revise the tax laws and get rid of the sycophant in the White House.

  147. Lets start by knocking out all this obscene affirmative action nonsense which forces employers to put unqualified people in key positions on account of race. That is what the new toothless financial reform bill does. That assumes of course that in the age of fake anyone is serious.

    Wall Street Journal

Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Sheila Bair warned in a Washington Post op-ed that the next financial crisis could come from out-of-control spending in Washington and urged lawmakers to put aside partisan differences to tackle the debt.

She outlined a number of areas where she felt the debt was under heavy pressure. She said retiring baby boomers would live longer, putting more pressure on spending. She called defense spending “unsustainable” and referred to the tax code as “riddled with special-interest provisions that have little to do with our broader economic prosperity.”

Her op-ed comes less than a week before the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform votes on whether it can reach enough consensus to recommend changes in U.S. policy that would reduce the debt. Their recommendations are due Dec. 1.

  148. turndown,

While I’m trying to respect your fair and balanced theme, it has me a bit stymied.

There are definitely occasions when select Muslim people back away from the extremist dogma and work with Catholics, Israelis, Americans et al to make the world a better place. I do not deny this.

But are you saying that what the extremists do is okay? I don’t hear you condemn any of their terrorist activities but instead always see you come up with an article, which while important, challenges something that as been posted in the negative. And more often than not, said article does not measure up to the crimes Muslim terrorists continue to perpetrate.

I think I would better accept your posts on this matter if your “fair and balanced” included condemnation of the evil taking place and not just the good.

    Just saying.

    Mrs. Smith,

    Excellent catch.

“Islamic terrorism is not an open-ended, universal characteristic. Rather, it is a specific, narrowly defined phenomenon. It is fueled by Muslim extremists bent on waging a holy war against the West. Its perpetrators tend to be young adults from the Middle East, North Africa, the Arab world and the Muslim ghettos of Europe. Most jihadists fit this profile. What is needed is not more groping, crotch-grabbing or nude screening, but better intelligence-gathering, random checking and targeted profiling.”

  150. This article contains the most comprehensive assessment of Obama’s tenure I have ever read since he has taken office.

a short excerpt from the link:

“Like many on the progressive left, Mr. Obama is an anti-American political thug. He despises the Constitution and capitalism. He bristles under the restraints of democratic governance and the system of checks and balances. From Vladimir Lenin to Fidel Castro to Hugo Chavez, socialist leaders have masked their will to power by portraying themselves as visionary thinkers – sophisticated intellectuals seeking social justice. In reality, they have one goal: revolution.

Mr. Obama has embarked America upon that perilous path. He has de facto nationalized health care, the financial sector, the insurance industry, student loans and major automakers. He has appointed numerous policy czars with vast Cabinet-level powers who have not been confirmed – or even vetted – by the Senate. His administration violated parliamentary procedures and repeatedly bribed and arm-twisted members of Congress to ram through Obamacare – against the expressed will of the people. His surrogates sought to directly manipulate and interfere in primary elections on behalf of pro-Obama candidates – likely committing several felonies. His Interior Department falsified scientific reports to justify the temporary ban on oil drilling in the Gulf Coast. His Justice Department has refused to prosecute blatant voter fraud and intimidation. Mr. Obama has referred to his critics as “enemies” who must be “punished.”

He is seeking to use the lame-duck session of Congress to pass more unpopular, sweeping legislation – a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill; the DREAM Act, which effectively grants amnesty to illegal immigrant students; and repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding homosexuals in the military. Hence, an unrepresentative Congress, in which the House Democratic majority was defeated and replaced in the Nov. 2 election, thinks it has the right to circumvent the electorate.

Mr. Obama’s regime has abused its power and fostered anti-democratic behavior. He is slowly erecting a soft police state. It is not one with a fascist jackboot on your face but with a unionized TSA bureaucrat in your crotch – all in the name of public safety. Say hello to Big Brother Barack.”

  151. Amazing…….that they can get away with this

Obama’s Government Denying Tax Status Based on Pro-Israeli Support?

A pro-Israel education group called Z Street is claiming that Obama’s IRS has violated its Constitutional rights by denying it tax exempt status solely because it supports Israel, support that apparently runs counter to Obama’s stance on Israel.

Z Street reports that Obama’s IRS asked a telling question of the group as it sought the tax exemption earlier this year. In August, Z Street filed a lawsuit claiming that the IRS was delaying the consideration because the group is a vocal supporter of the State of Israel and that support apparently runs counter to the Obama’s administration’s position.

According to the lawsuit, “The case is brought because, through its corporate counsel, Z STREET was informed explicitly by an IRS Agent on July 19, 2010, that approval of Z STREET’s application for tax-exempt status has been at least delayed, and may be denied because of a special IRS policy in place regarding organizations in any way connected with Israel, and further that the applications of many such Israel-related organizations have been assigned to ‘a special unit in the D.C. office to determine whether the organization’s activities contradict the Administration’s public policies.’”

In other words, Z Street could be denied status as a 501(c)(3) organization because they differ with Obama on Israel. If this is true, if the Obama administration is targeting organizations that support Israel and then wielding its power over the IRS to harm such groups, that is a clear violation of these groups First Amendment rights.

Paul Caron, a University of Cincinnati law professor, says that the IRS’s questions “go far beyond what should be the IRS’s role” to ask.

Now in November Obama’s administration is moving to dismiss the complaint. In reply, Z Street released the following statement:

Z STREET, an organization devoted to pro-Israel public education, today filed in federal court its Opposition to the government’s effort to continue violating the US Constitution by discriminating against the organization because its views on Israel and the Middle East differ from those of this government. On August 25, 2010 Z STREET filed a Complaint in federal court charging the Internal Revenue Service with constitutional violations by subjecting Z STREET’s application for tax exemption to a discriminatory process.

In its response to Z STREET’s Complaint, the government did not deny that it engaged in this First Amendment violation. Instead, the government’s position is that (1) it can violate the Constitution whenever it wants and the only way to stop it is if the government agrees to be stopped, and (2) Z STREET should go to a different court to get something it should already have – tax exempt status – were it not for the constitutional violation the government has inflicted upon it.

“As every American knows, the US government is bound by the Constitution, and it can be hailed into court and ordered to cease unconstitutional action whether it consents or not,” said Lori Lowenthal Marcus, president of Z STREET. “This evasive measure simply compounds the unconstitutional process by which our effort to achieve tax-exempt status has been, and is being, reviewed.”

Marcus added, “we have provided evidence that another applicant for charitable exemption was asked by the IRS, in writing, in connection with its application, whether it supports the existence of Israel, and what that organization’s religious beliefs are about Israel. The other organization is a Jewish one with a religious focus and has nothing to do with Israel at all,” she said. “There is something very serious, and very wrong, in the process the IRS is using to allocate tax exempt determinations, and Z STREET is committed to exposing and righting that wrong.”

  152. North Korea Issues Warning as Artillery Fire Rattles Island

SEOUL, South Korea — Tension mounted on Friday near a South Korean island bombarded this week by North Korea as Pyongyang’s military again fired artillery, this time in what appeared to be a drill on its own territory. The North’s state-run media warned that a planned United States-South Korean military exercise could push the Korean Peninsula closer to “the brink of war.”

Meanwhile, South Korea struggled with the domestic political fallout from Tuesday’s deadly attack, which exposed the weakness of South Korean defenses and brought public criticism of President Lee Myung-bak for failing to retaliate more forcefully. On Friday, he appointed a new defense minister, whose predecessor resigned on Thursday for failing to keep forces at ready in an area that has seen repeated military clashes with North Korea.

I actually posted about this earlier on the thread.

I agree with you that this is preposterous.

  154. sorry Janh, didnt see it honey., wish we had a search thing here to avoid duplicates. It just seems like complete active hammering of anything opposing Obama.

  155. Now obama could really learn alot from Egypt about how to run elections…not.
Egypt courts cancel election in several districts
    (AFP) – 6 hours ago

CAIRO — Egyptian courts ordered the cancellation of Sunday’s parliamentary election in 24 districts after orders to reinstate opposition and independent candidates were ignored, a judicial source said on Friday.

Administrative courts ruled on Thursday that the election could not be held in 12 districts in the Nile Delta governorates of Kafr el-Sheikh and Qalyubiya and in two districts in the southern governorates Sohag and Assyut, he said.

An Alexandria court cancelled the vote in 10 of the Mediterranean coastal city’s 11 districts on Wednesday.

Earlier, the High Elections Commission had ignored court orders to reinstate opposition and independent candidates.

The court orders will probably be suspended as the ruling National Democratic Party contests them.

Each of Egypt’s 254 districts returns two representatives to parliament.

Many of the candidates whose applications were rejected by the election commission, which is largely appointed by the NDP-dominated legislature, belong to the Muslim Brotherhood. Others are independents.

The banned Islamist group has 130 candidates registered as independents left in the race for parliament’s 508 elected seats.

On Thursday, public prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmud ordered an investigation into NDP complaints that Brotherhood candidates should be disqualified because they are misrepresenting themselves as independents.

Police have arrested more than 1,000 of the Islamists’ supporters since they announced in October that they would run in the election.

  156. Mrs. Smith,

You and me both. Although I think the number of supporters has gone down since the midterms, there are still those hanger-ons.

  157. University students across Texas this week joined San Antonio students in a hunger … sophomoric
    To be sure.

However, this strike is also mobilizing students for an Obama cause. He and Michelle are making inroads, even with the very young: i.e. his annual school speech, and Michelle’s war on obesity. Local coverage of her recent visit to an elementary school in Newark NJ gave me an alarming view of just how fired up youngsters can become, and their enthusiasm will remain with them for a long time.

Large numbers of adults know better. The youth are vulnerable to the Obamas’ advances, and have the real possiblity of tipping the scale his way. If they are of voting age, they will vote his way; if not, they may influence the adults, older siblings, friends in their environment…as we gave already seen.

    Mrs. Smith,

Frm what I read the other day, the T-Party is going to begin boycotting the corporations that are huge donors to Obama. Also, he is going organizing his re-election campaign from Chicago instead of DC.

Palin is playing with his head- letting rumors of her running in 2012 go unrefuted.

  159. We are officially in Afghanistan longer than Russia was as of today and we all know how that turned out……….

  160. It makes no sense why would you run your re-election campaign out of Chicago and not out of the the WH, it just does not make no sense unless, there is something up with all this.

  161. Clearly something is up

UK Government has issued a “D-notice” warning to all UK news editors, asking to be briefed on upcoming WikiLeaks stories.

  162. if this is true, it means they are closing ranks, a d-notice is effectively, you cannot publish this, however, there is no way they can stop this getting out somehow.

  163. “there is something up with all this.”

The video posted by nomobama was scary as well as informative. His guest, a former Muslim extremist, described the destructive agenda laid out by Muslim leaders for infiltration of our country. I was surprised to learn tunnels dug by Muslims in the 70’s and 80’s from the Canadian border to US soil still exist and are still viable entry points and easily accessed by extremists. iow- the TSA scans and Homeland Security patdowns are useless in preventing extremists bombings. Seeing even on a bad day Muslims are immune to those security features anyway.

I am generally not a fan of Pat Robinson, but in this case, I think his guest is a reliable source of Extremist Muslim leanings.

  164. Pat Robenson’s guest was Kamal Saleem. His book, which I have to admit, scares me- “The Blood of Lambs.”

What Mr Saleem has to say about his Muslim upbringing, where children, as young as 7yrs old, are brainwashed from the cradle by their parents (not necessarily extremists) they must follow the Koran. Also, note if they die (suicide bombing) for the sake of Allah, the family receives up to $30,000 for the death from Extremists leaders. This is why living in abject poverty, this extremists Muslim scheme, killing Muslim children, continues to work for them.

  165. I stayed up pretty late watching to see if the leak came out….at midnight it hadn’t. That’s about the time the last one came out. Very interesting tweets coming in from Wikileaks last night.

If all this is nothing more that people at State talking about one’s hairdo’s or nasty comments about some head of government weight, then it nothing much, but this sounds like what they’ve been worrying about all along. It probably has to do with all the worlds plans to unify it. I think its more they don’t want us to find out what they are up to. How they are manipulating their people. I could be totally wrong, but something is definite up because our government does not represent its people.

  166. Mrs.Smith,
If each child is worth 30,000 then if you have 4 wives and each has at least 10 kids and you can brain wash all of them….you’d be set up financially pretty well wouldn’t you? Now that’s a retirement plan, LOL!

  167. confloyd… 😆

    From Wikipedia:

If you think Saleem’s book is so much hogwash. He comes forward with his story with a credentialed author, Lynn Vincent.

Lynn Vincent is a bestselling conservative American writer, journalist, and author or co-author of eight books. Vincent’s work focuses on politics, current events, and memoirs. She is co-author of Sarah Palin’s book, “Going Rouge” that in it’s first week hit #1 on the NYT best seller list. She has co-authored Kamal Saleem’s book, “The Blood of Lambs” with first hand research of the subject matter.

The Blood of Lambs: A Former Terrorist’s Memoir of Death and Redemption (Howard, 2009) by Kamal Saleem and Vincent.

Saleem was born into a large Sunni Muslim family in Lebanon, and was groomed in jihad from childhood by the Muslim Brotherhood. As a young boy, he trained with the Palestinian Liberation Organization to become a terrorist, committed to one world under Islam.

  168. China holds talks with Clinton on N.Korea: foreign ministry
    (AFP) – 2 hours ago

BEIJING — Beijing held phone talks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday on the tense situation following North Korea’s deadly bombardment of a South Korean island, the Chinese foreign ministry said.

China’s foreign minister Yang Jiechi also spoke to his South Korean counterpart and met Pyongyang’s ambassador to Beijing to discuss the situation.

Yang urged Seoul and Pyongyang to exercise calm and restraint and solve problems through dialogue, a ministry statement said, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

“The pressing task now is to put the situation under control and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents,” he said.

The United States and South Korea are planning joint naval exercises in the Yellow Sea on Sunday as a show of force against Beijing’s ally North Korea, prompting criticism from China.

Earlier on Friday, Beijing warned against military activity in its exclusive economic zone, echoing remarks it made a day earlier opposing the US-South Korean war games.

Yang said China was paying close attention to Tuesday’s incident, which left four people dead and prompted retaliatory fire from the South, and was very concerned about the development of the situation.

He urged an early restart of six-nation talks to end North Korea’s atomic ambitions, reiterating the call China made on Tuesday.

Precise details of what was discussed were not given, but Xinhua said North and South Korea and the United States elaborated their positions on the situation.

Washington and Seoul have both appealed to Beijing to use its influence to rein in its wayward ally, but Beijing has so far refused to take sides, merely calling for “restraint” from all parties.

The North has justified its firing as retaliation, claiming South Korea lobbed shells into its waters during an exercise, and on Friday warned that Sunday’s naval exercise heightens the risk of war

  169. White House Sets Fallback on Obamacare

    Friday, 26 Nov 2010

Perhaps President Barack Obama is coming to accept the inevitable. Administration lawyers argued to a federal judge this week that even if the new healthcare law’s individual mandate to buy insurance is ruled unconstitutional, other parts of the law should be allowed to survive, The Hill reports.

“That argument, known as severability, is crucial to the law’s survival should a judge rule that the mandate is unconstitutional,” the news service states.

The argument came Tuesday in a filing responding to the multi-state lawsuit led by Florida. Virginia and Ohio also are challenging the individual mandate.

“Some limited set of provisions of the [healthcare reform] Act cannot survive” if the mandate is overturned, the administration maintains. “Other parts of the statute, however, are plainly severable from … the minimum coverage provision.”

  170. JanH,
Could you possibly send that article to the assholes on Fox (Monica Crowley) who seem to think Hillary is MIA on all these huge foreign crisis! LOL!

Sometimes the woman commentators are just as stupid as the men are. I think the networks now are going to get women to make the outrageous comments so they won’t be accused of misogny….well it won’t work. The women commentators who participate in this kind of crap are NO better than the prostitutes selling it on the street and they are more honest than the witches on TV. It’s all done for money….what’s the difference?

  171. Now the following is almost a reasonable statement. (Certianly I agree with the bottom line: profiles not pat-downs.)

  172. Mop, It is weird that they are going to run the re-election campaign out of Chicago…didn’t they move most of the DNC there too? I thought they’d moved most of it and had only a skeleton crew in DC.

Who knows everything is weird with Obama!

  173. Pat Robenson’s guest was Kamal Saleem. His book, which I have to admit, scares me- “The Blood of Lambs.”

    Yup. Book deal.

  174. I think this is an old article, but who’d want to have another baby at her age??? Isn’t she in her 40’s? The story is a plant/cover! LOL!

BARACK Obama and his wife Michelle are at war — because she won’t give him another baby, sources have sensationally revealed.

According to America’s Globe tabloid, the President took off his wedding ring during a furious fight with the First Lady over her lavish spending and reluctance to try for a third child — and the marriage has now reached a crisis point.

“There’s shocking problems in the Obama marriage,” said one loose-lipped source.

“Michelle is breaking her husband’s heart by refusing to have another baby.”

Recent reports claimed Michelle is planning to spend a whopping $2m in the coming year.

The president’s advisers hit the roof recently when they found out Michelle was arranging other exotic trips in the new year with girlfriends — on top of sprucing up their White House living quarters and her plans to do some redecorating at their home back in Chicago,” a source said.

“They’ve estimated that all the spending will top more than $2 million.

“Michelle was behind the redesign of her husband’s office, but the last thing he needs is an electorate thinking she’s living it up like a lottery winner.

“They’ll flip if she takes more exotic vacations — and they won’t care if renovations to the White House living quarters and their house back in Chicago are done by benefactors. It still sends the wrong message.

“She loves top-dollar designer duds and hosting fancy dinner parties.

“The bad economy seems to have no effect on her.”
It has also been claimed that Michelle has “had enough” of being America’s First Lady.

“Michelle collapsed in tears and even threatened to divorce Barack if he seeks a second term as president,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“At one point, Michelle was heard yelling, ‘I hate you for dragging me through all this…I’ve had enough!’”

I disagree completely with you here. Leaking sensitive state department cables is not akin to shining light on it. State department cables are supposed to be confidential. This allows for candid assessments of foreign governments and leaders. This is not supposed to be made public. What wiki leaks has done is wrong as it serves no good purpose other than to embarass the US.

  177. I’m just amazed that this stuff has even got out, i mean, thats pretty lax that this has happened. As said before, if you have something critical in these positions, never ever write it down unless you want it spread everywhere, the age of internet and technology will spread it far and wide in seconds. Pick up the phone. Presumably, i have a feeling, is this why Obama wants an internet kill switch?

Your response is a sensationalist claim as usual. If your response had one iota of truth in it, we could further discuss the merits of your position. It’s what you Lefty’s do best- support Obama from the sidelines by attempting to undermine important discussions Hillary supporters should be aware of.

It’s a lame-duck session. Time is running out. Unemployment is high, the economy is dangerously weak and, with five weeks to go, no one knows what tax anyone will be paying on everything from income to dividends to death when the current rates expire Jan. 1. And what is the president demanding that Congress pass as “a top priority”? To what did he devote his latest weekly radio address? Ratification of his New START treaty.

Good grief. Even among national security concerns, New START is way down at the bottom of the list. From the naval treaties of the 1920s to this day, arms control has oscillated between mere symbolism at its best to major harm at its worst, with general uselessness being the norm.

The reason is obvious. The problem is never the weapon; it is the nature of the regime controlling the weapon. That’s why no one stays up nights worrying about British nukes, while everyone worries about Iranian nukes.

In Soviet days, arms control at least could be justified as giving us something to talk about when there was nothing else to talk about, symbolically relieving tensions between mortal enemies. It could be argued that it at least had a soporific and therapeutic effect in the age of “the balance of terror.”

But in post-Soviet days? The Russians are no longer an existential threat. A nuclear exchange between Washington and Moscow is inconceivable. What difference does it make how many nukes Russia builds? If they want to spend themselves into penury creating a bloated nuclear arsenal, be our guest.

President Obama insists that New START is important as a step toward his dream of a nuclear-free world. Where does one begin? A world without nukes would be the ultimate nightmare. We voluntarily disarm while the world’s rogues and psychopaths develop nukes in secret. Just last week we found out about a hidden, unknown, highly advanced North Korean uranium enrichment facility. An ostensibly nuclear-free world would place these weapons in the hands of radical regimes that would not hesitate to use them – against a civilized world that would have given up its deterrent.

Moreover, Obama’s idea that the great powers must reduce their weapons to set a moral example for the rest of the world to disarm is simply childish. Does anyone seriously believe that the mullahs in Iran or the thugs in Pyongyang will in any way be deflected from their pursuit of nukes by a reduction in the U.S. arsenal?

Obama’s New START treaty is 90 percent useless and 10 percent problematic. One difficulty is that it restricts the number of delivery vehicles for nuclear weapons. But because some of these are dual-use, our ability to deliver long-range conventional weapons, a major U.S. strategic advantage, is constrained.

The second problem is the recurrence of language in the treaty preamble linking offensive to defensive nuclear weaponry. We have a huge lead over the rest of the world in missile defenses. Ever since the Reagan days, the Russians have been determined to undo this advantage. The New START treaty affirms the “interrelationship” between offense and defense. And Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has insisted that “the unchangeability of circumstances” – translation: no major advances in U.S. anti-missile deployment – is a condition of the entire treaty.

The worst thing about this treaty, however, is that it is simply a distraction. It gives the illusion of doing something about nuclear danger by addressing a non-problem, Russia, while doing nothing about the real problem – Iran and North Korea. The utter irrelevance of New START to nuclear safety was dramatically underscored last week by the revelation of that North Korean uranium enrichment plant, built with such sophistication that it left the former head of the Los Alamos National Laboratory “stunned.” It could become the ultimate proliferation factory. Pyongyang is already a serial proliferator. It has nothing else to sell. Iran, Syria and al-Qaeda have the money to buy.

Iran’s Islamic Republic lives to bring down the Great Satan. North Korea, nuclear-armed and in a succession crisis, has just shelled South Korean territory for the first time since the Korean armistice. Obama peddling New START is the guy looking for his wallet under the lamppost because that’s where the light is good – even though he lost the wallet on the other side of town.

  188. Bill Clinton: the opera

    Blythe spirit

The former president in a new guise
    Nov 25th 2010

NO OTHER speaker, not even Barack Obama himself, was in as much demand as Bill Clinton on the Democratic campaign trail for this year’s mid-terms, a testament to the affection in which the 42nd president is still held. Mr Clinton, having inspired a novel, a film in which he was played by John Travolta and countless political tracts, is now the subject of an opera that opened on November 19th in Little Rock, where he lived while he was Arkansas’s governor.

“Billy Blythe”—the brainchild of two Arkansas natives, Bonnie Montgomery and Britt Barber—is set on a single day in the Southern life of a teenaged Clinton in the Arkansas town of Hot Springs, where he grew up. It highlights the tribulations that shaped the future occupant of the White House, living with an abusive and alcoholic stepfather and a decidedly colourful mother.

Ms Montgomery, the composer, and Ms Barber, the opera’s librettist who now lives in Atlanta, spent four years on the work. Ms Montgomery, a classically trained musician who also fronts a country-and-western band, was inspired to write the opera after reading Mr Clinton’s autobiography. She was especially stirred, she says, by a passage in which Mr Clinton wrote about watching his mother, Virginia, apply her make-up for a night out while smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee.

The creators have turned the former president’s life into something more familiar to a fan of Tennessee Williams than of “The West Wing”. The opera gets its title from Mr Clinton’s birth surname, which he went by until taking his stepfather’s name as a teenager. Scenes include a steamy rendezvous between Clinton’s stepfather Roger Clinton and Virginia, she wearing lingerie while singing about their torrid romance. Virginia also sings an aria with the young Clinton about his father, William Blythe, who died before Mr Clinton was born. The opera features a tableau following big wins at the horse races and a night of domestic drama, complete with gunfire, in the Clinton household. What need, with all that going on, for interns?

Ms Montgomery says she wants to make opera less stodgy and more accessible to a generation of people who may have never attended one before. She chose an old ballroom in downtown Little Rock for the premiere rather than a formal auditorium. An after-party in a local pub, the White Water Tavern, included a racier, more relaxed second performance. Less-lavish opera performed in pubs to a younger crowd is already big in London, thanks to groups like OperaUpClose. And why not? The first performance of an English opera was given in a room at the Smithfield home of Sir William Davenant in 1656.

Wow- How kool is that? To think we could have had a President Blythe…

  190. Twitter breaking news has the following on the Obama split lip (never heard of the person mentioned):

Kay- thanks for posting that eye opening video..JanH is right..the fellow speaking is very brave. Speaking Truth to Power necessitates big cojones!

The entire time Gordon Brown was the PM of the UK, he was the promoter for the European Union. The Treaty for the European Union was signed in Spain, I believe in 07. We were scheduled to sign near the end of 08′-However, the fly in the ointment always was Ireland. They fought against joining the EU because they didn’t see the need. Their economy was flush with jobs, new construction and a booming stock market. Things were Green as far as the eye could see. Therefore, the Irish didn’t see the need to join the EU. During their elections, the Irish government submitted a Referendum asking their voters if they wished Ireland to join the European Union. Irish citizens voted it down. When Ireland informed the EU they would not be joining them because the Irish people were against it, the EU in turn, extended their time line for signing for another year. And this is the result. Ireland needing a Bail-Out.

Just that fact alone, leads me to believe there must have been serious money market manipulation going on in Irish markets by a certain someone (Soros) to bring their booming economy to it’s knees.

The Irish technically saved us from joining the EU when the EU extended their signing time for another year. That meant the EU had to float their false economic balloon for another year to get the US and Ireland on board with their nefarious scheme. Apparently, the EU couldn’t keep their fraudulent economic balloon aloft long enough to perpetuate the ruse to conclusion. Now many european countries are in financial distress. If the US had signed on with the EU, we would have been forced to give up our sovereignty as a Nation and be subject to a new Constitution which as the EU required removal of our individual sovereign rights and subject us to the laws created by the European Union.

Now, whatever we see happening in Europe would have been happening to us if we had signed on with the EU. My feeling is we avoided a bullet thanks to Ireland. Our dollar would have been rendered worthless and by the same token seriously debilitated any chance for our financial recovery.

So, I think the spillover to us from Ireland and Spain will be minimal.

This is but another one of Soros’ objectives that has been thwarted- Oh- Happy Day!

Maybe it wasn’t an elbow that gave Obama a gash requiring 12 stitches. It might have been a PO’d someone leveling a left hook at him, when he wasn’t looking because he FAILED once again to get the job done for Soros-
