Shocking May UnEmployment Numbers! – Another Obama Scam – And Another OilBama-Palooza Obamaversary

Update: Urgency? What urgency? The fierce urgency of “it can wait until after golf, vacations, sports teams, and parties.” Video at the end of article.

—————————————————————————————-

Prepare for cheers because government hired, very temporary, very manipulated with potential hire-fire-rehire-refire-rehire, census jobs in the amount of 430,000 now further burden the economy. Only 41,000 private jobs were created in the Obama economy.

Obama and his Chicago scam artists will claim 441,000 jobs were created in May. But it’s all a Chicago accountant scam:

“What they do is hire you, they train you like a few weeks — 35, 40 hours of training and give you six hours of productive work and lay you off.” a former Census named “Maria” tells FOX News. “Maria” further explains they rehire you so it counts as a new job.” [Video HERE.]

Many Americans, are no longer fooled by the oily scams which flow from Chicago Obama. Investors are no longer fooled:

“US stock futures extended their losses Friday after a report showed fewer jobs were added to nonfarm payrolls last month and most of those were temporary census workers.

US employers added 430,000 jobs to nonfarm payrolls in May, but 411,000 of those were temporary census workers. That number was also well short of the more than 500,000 economists had expected. The unemployment rate, however, fell to 9.7 percent from 9.9 percent in April.”

And not to borrow trouble, but there is also this on the economic front:

“Futures had already been pointing lower as European shares tumbled amid rumors that SocGen may be having trouble with its derivatives operations, and US futures followed.

Adding to the worries about Europe, a spokesperson for Hungary‘s prime minister said the country is also at risk for a financial crisis, piling on to worries about Greece, Spain and Portugal.”

The bankruptcy of Hungary might come this very weekend.

In the United States, the services sector of the economy barely moved (up 37,000, down from 156,000 in April), the goods producing sector scratched an uptick (up 4,000, down from 62,000 in April), and construction jobs produced no growth but instead fell by 35,000 (up 14,000 in April). Government accounted for 95.5% of the job growth in May and we may be “actually losing jobs”. The drop in the unemployment statistics, from 9.9% to 9.7%, is “due to 322,000 people dropping out of the labor force“.

It’s a jobless non-recovery which cost trillions in debt. You’re doing a heckava job, Barry.

[Things are so bad that Obama fluffers at MSNBC (Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, etc.) might be losing their jobs (Jeff Zucker is no longer in disastrous charge) and will no longer be able to shill for the object of their Cult ceremonies. More job loss of this kind please; (and no surprise here that Big Media ABC’s Ted Davis has joined SEIU).]

Obama Crude

As we noted, yesterday, June 3, was the anniversary of the Obama flowery word fest in which he promised to “heal the planet” and all sorts of other miraculous stuff.

Today is another Obama-versary: one year ago Obama bowed to the Muslim and Arab world by insulting Israel and bowing and scraping in his Cairo speech. [Read our article from one year ago: “Barack Obama – The Queen Of Denial and learn why sleeveless Michelle did not go to Cairo]

On today’s Obama bow and scrape to Muslims and Arabs Obamaversary it appears that the bowing and scraping, like Obama himself, was a dud:

CAIRO , Egypt – A year ago Friday, President Barack Obama stood in Cairo and vowed “a new beginning” in a speech about how he’d change U.S. relations with the Muslim world. Egyptian vendors sold T-shirts portraying Obama in King Tut regalia, and Muslims throughout the region thrilled at his middle name: Hussein.

Now, many Muslims in Egypt and the rest of the Middle East say they’re dismayed that the promise of the speech has fizzled into U.S. policy-as-usual toward the region: civilian deaths in Afghanistan , an unstable Iraq , no pressure for reforms on Washington -friendly autocrats, no resolution for Guantanamo prisoners and no end in sight for the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Israel’s deadly raid in international waters on an aid flotilla en route to break the siege on Gaza – and Obama’s tepid response, in comparison to the condemnation of other world leaders – cemented perceptions for many of unconditional U.S. support for Israel . Some Arab commentators and bloggers said Obama no longer deserves his Nobel Peace Prize.

“His speech at Cairo University was wonderful and raised hopes that America was on a real path to changing its policies,” said Hassan Nafaa , a political science professor at Cairo University , where Obama spoke. “But Obama’s practices afterwards guaranteed that he is weaker than he seemed during his speech.”

Nooooooo! Not the Nobel! Leave the undeserved Nobel alone!

Stupid Muslims and stupid Arabs (like stupid Jews) who believed Obama’s words are… stupid. Haven’t they heard:

Obama simply cannot be trusted. Obama cannot be trusted on any issue. Obama cannot be trusted by his friends. Obama cannot be trusted by his enemies. Obama cannot be trusted.

According to Gallup approval of the U.S. is in “a dramatic decline” in Arab countries. Stupid Aya Mahmoud a 22 year old student at Cairo University should start reading Big Pink. Stupid Aya Mahmoud says “Turns out the speech was all just hype.” Welcome to reality Mahmoud baby. Welcome to reality “Dumb White People” (like Andrew Sullivan and John Kerry).

Let’s take a moment to recall what Dumb White Person Andrew Sullivan (and Kerry) used to say (and probably they are so stupid they still say the stupid things they used to say):

“Consider this hypothetical. It’s November 2008. A young Pakistani Muslim is watching television and sees that this man—Barack Hussein Obama—is the new face of America. In one simple image, America’s soft power has been ratcheted up not a notch, but a logarithm. A brown-skinned man whose father was an African, who grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, who attended a majority-Muslim school as a boy, is now the alleged enemy. If you wanted the crudest but most effective weapon against the demonization of America that fuels Islamist ideology, Obama’s face gets close. It proves them wrong about what America is in ways no words can.”

Stupid Gay Sullivan. Things have not gone quite the way Sullivan and his Big Media cohort exclaimed.

But not to worry Hopium guzzlers. Obama bowed and scraped during the campaigns of 2008 to every and any dictator he could and now one of them is coming through for Barack. Fidel Castro has a winning strategy for his pal Barack on how to win re-election:

“HAVANA — Fidel Castro speculated Wednesday that a nuclear strike on Iran might help President Barack Obama win a second term in the White House and also suggested the United States could attack North Korea.

The former leader of Cuba, who has not been seen in public for nearly four years, also portrayed the U.S. president as a victim of fantasies planted in his mind by sinister advisers.

The column published by Cuban state media floated the idea that a nuclear attack on Iran — perhaps even without U.S. authorization — might help Obama win re-election in 2012.”

Fidel, the commie pinko, sounds rather Big Pinkish (although we are not so foolish as to “blame the staff”) when he says this:

“President Obama can give hundreds of speeches, trying to reconcile contradictions that are irreconcilable … dreaming of the magic of his well-articulated phrases,” he wrote.

But Castro said Obama “makes concessions to personalities and groups totally lacking in ethics and draws fantasy worlds that only fit in his head and that unscrupulous advisers, knowing his tendencies, plant in his mind.”

Too true Fidel, too too true. Sad, sad, sad.

But not to worry Fidel. Barack Obama oozed out of the muck and corruption of Chicago so he will do whatever he needs to do to benefit himself. It’s what he has always done.

As we wrote on June 2, 2008 (darn, we missed that Obamaversary) “A backroom deal during a “closed-door” session sealed the corrupt bargain pushed by Obama, master of a Chicago Corrupt Culture.” On that day we denounced the “Culture of Corruption” at the Democratic National Committee too. By July 2009, others took note of the Obama Culture Of Corruption. So don’t worry Fidel, just prepare for a slew of race-baiting and additional corruption tricks from your guy, Barack Obama.

Today’s trick, Fidel, will feature an Obama publicity stunt to the Gulf to show those white working class people that he has not lost his touch when it comes to publicity stunts.

As an added early Summer special publicity stunt, Obama announced he will cancel his next vacation due to the emergency he vacationed through (poor baby, now he says he “contemplated canceling his May 1 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner appearance“, but of course he didn’t).

Publicity stunts won’t help. Obama must be removed or go away voluntarily. Publicity stunts won’t help. When Obama gets to the Gulf for today’s publicity stunt, he will smell the stinky stench and see the filth and the muck – into which he sinks America and his presidency.

  2. Oh, dear God, that graphic at PumaPac is right out of a doomsday movie. Gave me the creeps.

  3. We can’t make this up. ABC online is featuring a “Live Event” this morning. The major “Live Event” this morning which features “I sleep/wake and only care about the Gulf Obama” is: “President Obama Welcomes Major League Soccer Champions Real Salt Lake to the White House”

    Is he kidding?

Congressman Joe Sestak’s post-primary bounce appears to over, and he now trails Republican rival Pat Toomey by seven points in the U.S. Senate contest in Pennsylvania.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Pennsylvania shows Toomey with 45% support, while Sestak earns 38%. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate in the race, and 12% are undecided.

How ridiculous is that? The idiot never deserved it in the first place. He stole the prize just as he stole the election. Nothing but a petty thief.

  7. HEALTH SCARE BILL STRUCTURALLY UNSOUND

    Ummmm…..TOLD YOU SO!

Yeah, now as various studies’ results are made public (only after the vote-rigging was concluded) do we find that “health care bill” is a house of cards that will easily topple.

Health Care Study Calls Risk Pool Money Lacking
    ==================================

    By KEVIN SACK
    Published: May 26, 2010

The new health care law does not allocate nearly enough money to cover the estimated 5.6 million to 7 million Americans with pre-existing medical conditions who will qualify for temporary high-risk insurance pools, according to a report scheduled for release on Thursday.

The government-operated insurance plans are intended to serve as a stopgap until 2014, when insurers will be prohibited from denying coverage to people with health problems. But an analysis by the Center for Studying Health System Change, a nonpartisan research group, concluded that the $5 billion earmarked for the pools might cover as few as 200,000 people a year.

“This could leave hundreds of thousands of potential participants with serious medical problems unable to obtain coverage,” the report stated.

That fear — along with partisan considerations — prompted officials in 20 states to decline to establish their own federally financed pools, opting to leave the task to Washington. Officials in those states, predominantly Republicans, worry that they would face intense pressure to pick up the burden if the money runs out.

The high-risk pools may open in some states as early as July 1. Although the existing state pools typically charge rates that are well above the market, and thus unaffordable to many of the uninsured, the new pools must have premiums equivalent to standard rates for healthy enrollees. What cannot be predicted yet is how many of the uninsured will be able to afford even those standard rates.

Jessica Santillo, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services, questioned the study’s assumptions about how many people would be eligible for risk pools, and the cost of covering them. The study was underwritten by the National Institute for Health Care Reform, a consortium of automakers and their unions.

A second analysis out this week, by the Kaiser Family Foundation, concluded that states should be pleased, at least in the short term, with the new law’s expansion of Medicaid eligibility.

Although Medicaid is a shared state and federal expense, the federal government will pick up 95 percent of the cost of the expansion between 2014, when it takes effect, and 2019, the foundation reported. Medicaid enrollment is projected to rise by 15.9 million during that period, lowering the number of low-income uninsured by 11.2 million.

“For a relatively small investment, states could see huge returns,” said Diane Rowland, the executive vice president of the foundation.

States in the South and the West with large numbers of uninsured are projected to experience heavy growth in their Medicaid populations, with Texas and California each adding about 1.4 million people to the rolls.

The new law calls for the federal government to pick up the total cost of insuring newly eligible parents and childless adults for three years. Then the states will begin to pay some of the expense, gradually rising to 10 percent in 2020. Many governors fear that at that point the new costs will severely burden state budgets.

This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:

    Correction: June 2, 2010

Because of an editing error, an article on Thursday about new insurance pools for Americans with pre-existing medical conditions referred incorrectly to the number of Americans now covered by similar pools. It is 200,000, not 100,000.

  13. I wonder if BarryCakes secretly hopes that the election this year will defeat the majority lead of His party…if he is a lame ass duck, he will have more time for his athletes, and a real excuse to do what he loves best, prance around the country, campaigning for 2012.

He probably is also trying to line up a new job, one that has more glory and less demanding that he actually has to work. Geeze, like he already has the benefits afforded a past prez. in his pocket, in the history books as the first ‘black’ President, and let’s not forget…his unearned Nobel prize.

This man isn’t about working, this isn’t what he expected, and that’s why he tried to put experienced Clinton people in his cabinet…so they would do the work while he played the King.

  20. The smartest man that EVAH lived know his tar balls and only spent 15 minutes on a clean beach last time……..oooooo….today he intends to get closer to the real damage…………..oooooooooooooooooooooo, the drama awaits.

June 4 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama showed he knew a thing or two about oil tar balls when he arrived last week on Fourchon Beach in Louisiana.

“Either the boom soaks stuff up, or manually you can pick up these tar balls as they’re coming ashore,” he told a group of reporters.

Spending about 15 minutes on a largely unsoiled beach is as close as Obama has come to the worst oil spill in U.S. history, one that is challenging his presidency as even some fellow Democrats complain that he has been too detached.

Today, he will return to the Gulf region for the third time in a month with a trip that will get him closer to destroyed wildlife and human distress.

    Funny numbers!!!

They were desperately needed to con Congressmen into voting for the health care bill.

Funny numbers were desperately create a sense of Hopium for the untested candidate in caucuses in 2008, starting in Iowa.

Funny numbers are needed to prop up any one of Obama’s many schemes.

    Which is why:
    Obama cannot be trusted.
He can’t be trusted by friends.
He can’t be trusted by enemies.
He can’t be trusted by third graders.
He can’t be trusted by earth worms.

  27. admin, it’s not just fun – he emotes just fine when talking about himself as well. I said often during the campaign that the only passion he ever showed was when talking about his own historic-ness. Or when embellishing his “poor deprived ghetto foodstamps” childhood.

no urgency…instead, defensiveness because of inattention…and distraction…people making excuses for him asking “what more can he do?”

can you imagine if now, heaven forbid, we got attacked or had that major west coast earthquake…our government would be completely paralyzed…

…no confidence in our govt…a sense of every man for himself…no sense of the country pulling together…and it starts at the top…with the leader…the president…

He said in the campaign that repealing DADT was the first thing he would do as president. Shame on all these athletic teams for winning championships!! Didn’t they know that their wins would take up the president’s precious time?!? Asshats.

  32. The Sestak Saga gets a new and different point of view. There was no doubt in my mind that when President Clinton went to Sestak for whatever reason to offer him whatever he was going to offer him, he knew what he was doing. I went to school just south of Chicago and I can tell you firsthand that the political arena is a cesspool. So it should come as no surprise to anyone when ‘Chicago politics’ shows up full force at the federal level when you put a corrupt Chicago politician at the helm.

He just said outright on the air that (paraphrase) “BP is HIDING the effects of the spill, is denying reporters and photographers access, and is not allowing photography in areas heavy with wildlife. They don’t want the American people to see what is happening. They are making a concerted effort to hide it from you, and keep our reporters from covering it.”

Predator B drones deployed on Texas-Mexico border
By Alexander Bolton – 06/04/10 01:15 PM ET

Predator B aerial drones, which have proved successful fighting insurgents in Afghanistan, were deployed this week along the border between Texas and Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection began flying unmanned surveillance missions along the Mexican border on Tuesday, according to congressional sources briefed on the matter.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), who was instrumental to pushing the issue in the Senate, applauded the news Friday.

“The beginning of UAV flights over the west-Texas portion of our border with Mexico marks an important advancement for border security in our state,” she said in reference to the unmanned aerial vehicles, which have been used by the military to survey the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“We are working hard to make round-the-clock aerial surveillance the standard for all 2,000 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, and I hope this development is the first of many steps to bring our border detection and security efforts into the 21st century,” Hutchison added.

  36. THey hide the employment numbers, they lie about how bad this oil spill is, they don’t really get any help down there, they just fake everything. It has to be what the handlers want. You realize the lefties are going to hit the rethugs with “drill baby drill” during the election, so they can win, but people aren’t going to vote for either one…we may be looking at an independent this time for Potus. People are sick of both parties, they both lie, they try to control the message and people are wise to their lies.

Simon Johnson’s The Quiet Coup [….] follows the current financial logic to its logical conclusion: we are not a representative democracy. We are an oligarchy; the election process is a farce to put people into chairs who, regardless of party affiliation, find themselves embedded in an economic machine that empowers them only to act in the interests of the oligarchs, where those in bureaucratic political power (rather than elected) come from the financial world, and return to it, regularly, and find themselves rewarded at both ends.

I wonder if the difference is, that now with the internet and other non-mainstream news sources, we’re beginning to SEE how it’s been all along.

(All along, with occasional good guys breaking through, such as FDR, Clinton/Gore, etc.)

  42. I am disgusted by the Helen Thomas clip. I am now fully withdrawn from the former democratic party. I have been explaining to as many of my Jewish friends as posssible that the democratic party in the US now represents most of the pro Palestinian, anti Israel sentiment in the country.

Make no mistake….that is an anti democratic, pro terrorist position. These same people condone illegal immigration and ignore Islamist extremism.

This is just the START of all the birds, fish and animals that are going to die, and sick clean-up humans. It is tragic beyond words. I hope they drag Barry’s wimpy ass over to hold one of these birds today…not just a photo opt.

THis is Texas, they’ll just shoot with a hellfire missile. We have more lethal injections than any state in the union. We mean business here.

  45. I had to go to work, so what did Obama have to say/do on the Gulf??? Was the beach cleaned prior to his arrival? Did he have anything meaningful to say?

  46. A comment from above:

“Isn’t it funny how so many of this president’s media fluffers are disavowing him being a great leader WITHOUT MENTION of the fact that they confidently told the world over and over again that he would be?

    Now they all get wise.

Now they realize preparation and competence are useful if you are POTUS.”

Not to worry, they’ll be back, they are just renegotiating their personal pay offs, getting set to support the next corporate cronie and sell out the whole United States of America and her people – again.

  47. …just saw surfer kids…teens…on the local news in florida…on the beach picking up oil balls that are washing up on the pristine, beautiful beach sand…they interviewed one of the young boys and he said he doesn’t want his beach ruined…

    WTF???

…now I ask…why is this being left to random surfer kids to do??? where is the triage? where is the planning? where are the troops? BP’s people, O’s people, Crist’s people??? the organized people scheduled in a structured way to be there AHEAD of or to HEAD OFF the coming damage…the oil that they KNOW is now washing up on the beaches…

for heaven’s sake…hire some people and put them to work before the damage gets worse…not after…ignored and neglected…

…no foresight…all of them…they know the oil is at the Panhandle and probably coming over to the Atlantic and la de da…whatever…leave it to the surfers…

and just where are all those envioronmentalists? where is their outrage?

if this was mccain, hillary or bush they would be picketing and protesting and ready to riot…now, all i have seen is some mumbling about energy policy…

European criticism of the World Health Organization’s handling of the H1N1 pandemic intensified Friday with the release of two reports that accused the agency of exaggerating the threat posed by the virus and failing to disclose possible influence by the pharmaceutical industry on its recommendations for how countries should respond.

The WHO’s response caused widespread, unnecessary fear and prompted countries around the world to waste millions of dollars, according to one report. At the same time, the Geneva-based arm of the United Nations relied on advice from experts with ties to drug makers in developing the guidelines it used to encourage countries to stockpile millions of doses of antiviral medications, according to the second report.

The reports outlined the drumbeat of criticism that has arisen, primarily in Europe, of how the world’s leading health organization responded to the first influenza pandemic in more than four decades.

“For WHO, its credibility has been badly damaged,” wrote Fiona Godlee, the editor of the BMJ, a prominent British medical journal, that published one of the reports. “WHO must act now to restore its credibility.”

  49. admin: I enjoyed the song selections. It is just tragic to see all those animals dying…just think how many there are that we can’t see.

  51. Does anyone know what is happening with the efforts to stop the oil spill? I’ve been watching the live video the past few days currently looks like nothing is going on. Has the effort to cap the well failed?

  52. Here’s a question for TEH WON: where the hell is my damn job? Where is it? I’ve been unemployed for two years, am a trained teacher, but have a fallback career as an admin assistant. Where’s all this blessed relief promised for military spouses like myself? Will FLOTUS make a scheduled stop at some more military bases to feel our pain?

Yeah, I thought not. Like all the promises this idiot made during the campaign, they’ve gone up in smoke. I guess spending all that money that WE DON’T HAVE on people who gave their votes to you for welfare just doesn’t seem to have that trickle down effect you promised, eh, Obeyme? I mean, you’re now going to spend billions of dollars saving teacher jobs but not creating new ones. Bless you, you dim bulb, bless you.

Only 41,000 private sector jobs? Mmm, mmm, mmm, having socialist and statist policies are SO reassuring to the private sector. Who’s the dummy? The private sector business who wants to keep the doors open or the federal government spending beyond their means and saving/creating jobs so that they can cook the unemployment numbers the right way?

Yeah, socialism will fit right in fine and dandy for the millions of jobs we no longer have. Yay!

I live in Colorado Springs, CO and some schmuck and his equally schumcky wife moved into a foreclosed house that’s been sitting on the market for ’bout a year down the street from where I live and they moved from, ahem, Ohio! I guess you gotta take advantage of the government “handout,” cough, cheese, cough, 8,000 dollar tax credit. I’m hearing that homes will be even cheaper after that stupid tax credit expires. Nothing like the federal government artificially propping up a housing market that will go belly up when you don’t offer free money to unload some foreclosed houses.

I guess after the Dims trashed Ohio, these schmucks had to go somewhere. Why don’t they go to Denver where all libs like to glory in their money management skills and schmuckiness? Maybe hire an illegal or two to keep wages down (cough, mayor/Gubernatorial candidate Hickenlooper) and enable them to murder an innocent woman in the process?

We’ll see how long these Ohio transplants stay in their federally afforded housing.

    http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/06/04/turkish_ambassador_calls_for_hamas_to_take_part_in_final_solution

As the crisis over a deadly Israeli commando raid on a vessel carrying Turkish activists continued to command the attention of top officials in Washington, Jerusalem, and Istanbul, Namik Tan, the Turkish ambassador to the United States, called Friday for engaging Hamas in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

But in an unfortunate turn of phrase, Tan twice said Friday that the militant Palestinian group, which the United States and Europe have designated a terrorist organization, is a necessary and important part of the “final solution” to the conflict.

“For a final solution, you cannot ignore Hamas. That’s what we are saying,” said Ambassador Namik Tan. “This is not the first time that we are trying to bring this into the discussion. We have told this to the Israelis, to our American friends, to our international interlocutors, everyone. How could you imagine a final solution without Hamas?”

Does anyone really believe that this was “an unfortunate turn of phrase”? It appears to be a calculated signal. If it was not a calculated signal, it shows the level of callowness and lack of knowledge of the issues involved.

  59. Turkey also may have cost hundreds of US soldiers lives by denying the US request to havetroops stationed there at the beginning of the Iraq war. Turkey has since moved consistently towards a hard line Islamic agenda and patently anti-semitic/Israeli/West agenda to gain credibility in the all so important Arab street. It’s a shame as Turkey had comea long way from genocidal past, but apparently, it is more important to hate Israel and command respect in the Islamic world.

  63. From today’s Wall Street Journal–
    —————————————–
    Washington Rebels Against Chicago
The White House’s real mistake was thinking it could practice such tactics as brazenly on the big stage as in the Windy City.
    By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

For those wondering what it would look like when the White House’s Chicago politics finally hit a Washington wall, the answer is Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff. A patronage-politics mentality brought the Obama team to this pass, and a shifty cleanup effort threatens to turn it into a political scandal.

It took the eve of a holiday weekend for the White House to finally offer its version of its dealings with Rep. Sestak. A bland, two-page report explained how Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had enlisted former President Bill Clinton to offer Mr. Sestak a job on a presidential board in return for bowing out of a primary election against Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter.

The report came only after weeks of America’s “most open and transparent administration in history” stonewalling about last summer’s Sestak job offer. And the report was made public only after the equally transparent Department of Justice declined to name a special counsel to investigate.

But never mind all that, said White House Counsel Robert Bauer, the report’s author. The Sestak discussions were “fully consistent with the relevant law and ethical requirements.” Trust him. He’s a lawyer.

Last September the Denver Post ran a story in which unnamed sources claimed Mr. Emanuel’s deputy, Jim Messina, had floated jobs by Andrew Romanoff, to discourage a primary challenge against Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet. The White House denied it. The Denver Post’s editorial page now says it last year asked Mr. Romanoff about the offer, and he too “unequivocally” denied it.

Mr. Romanoff was equally unequivocal this week when he cracked under pressure to say the exact opposite. He admitted Mr. Messina had indeed “suggested three positions that might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race.” He even released a Messina email that detailed the three jobs—posts at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as director of the U.S. Trade and Development agency.

This inspired the White House yesterday to issue an extraordinary statement claiming Mr. Messina had simply been following up on interest Mr. Romanoff had once expressed in USAID. Yes, the Senate race came up, but there was “no offer of a job.” No answer as to why Mr. Messina, calling about USAID, felt compelled to email a description of a position at U.S. Trade and Development.

Political jobs-for-favors are, of course, as old as politics itself. The White House’s real mistake was thinking it could practice such tactics as brazenly on the big stage as in the Windy City.

No phrase is more feared in Washington than “quid pro quo,” and Beltway politicians carefully avoid any hint of it. There are winks and nods, yes. But you’d have to be crazy to put something in an email. Crazy, or from Chicago, where it is simply understood that the political machine decides elections and hands out consolation prizes accordingly.

The White House’s other mistake was thinking Washington pols would follow Chicago rules. It is one thing to make deals with the local ward boss, who knows his livelihood depends on keeping his mouth shut. It is another to make offers to a Pennsylvania congressman who is angry that you are fighting him in the primary, and who views the U.S. Senate as way cooler than an advisory board. Mr. Sestak viewed it in his interest to blab, and he did. And he won.

The White House’s initial refusal to talk only fed the story. And Mr. Bauer’s too-late, too-clever Sestak memo has created new problems. According to this counsel, the Sestak talk was aboveboard because it wasn’t the White House, but Bill Clinton, doing it. Moreover, Mr. Sestak had simply been offered an “uncompensated” board position that was “additional service” to his current House job. By this reasoning, it is presumably not aboveboard when it was Mr. Messina talking to Mr. Romanoff, offering him a compensated, full-time job.

Legal experts note it would be difficult to bring charges under the criminal statute that makes it illegal to offer a federal position in exchange for political activity. That requires solid proof of a quid pro quo, always a tough standard. Yet as Scott Coffina, associate counsel to George W. Bush, has noted, the White House may have blundered into a separate charge.

“The Hatch Act,” writes Mr. Coffina in National Review Online, “makes it illegal for a federal employee to use his official position or authority to interfere with or affect the result of an election.” He notes that among Mr. Bauer’s justifications for the Sestak talk was that Democrats had a “legitimate interest” in avoiding a primary. “Advancing the interests of a political party is not a ‘legitimate’ use of one’s official government position,” says Mr. Coffina, yet Mr. Bauer is on record saying that was the goal.

Let it be noted that every scrap of information that has come out in this affair has been gleaned by a dogged press corps. Congressional Democrats—they of Bush-investigatory fame—have refused to open any inquiry into the issue. Yet the White House’s actions throughout have guaranteed the questions will keep coming. It isn’t clear there are any good Chicago tactics to fix this one.

    Write to kim@wsj.com

  64. I have two reactions to Kimberly’s story:

    1. Bauer is guilty of malpractice and craig is laughing his ass off about it.

    2. If “quid quo pro” was a dirty word in Washington before the Blago trial it will be orders of toxic afterwards. The assumption, of course, is that the Blago trial will shine the kleig light on the patronage practices of Chicago and a political model that makes Love Canal look like a Waikiki Beach.

  65. To win the democratic primary you have to be a blind disciple of Obama. To win the general election you have to run against him. A political party cannot survive under these conditions. Over time it will cease to be a political party at all and will devolve into a pressure group or just a cult. Smart blacks want no part of this, and are running as Republicans. The latest example of this is Isaac Hayes (R-Il2) who is running against Jessie Jackson III aka Witness 5 in the Blago trial.
    ———————————————–

    Democratic Civil War
    In Birmingham, they love ObamaCare.

Installment 234 of the 957-part journalistic series on the “Republican civil war” will no doubt be scintillating, but someone might also want to look into Artur Davis’s failed bid to become Alabama’s first black Governor. The four-term House Democrat wanted a chance to win the general election in the conservative state, but the left made sure he was pre-emptively purged in the state primary on Tuesday.

Ahead by 30 points at the start of the year, Mr. Davis went on to an epic 24-point loss to Ron Sparks, the Alabama agriculture commissioner. He even lost his own Congressional district by more than two to one, prompting musings about the shades of Birmingham circa 1963. But the white Mr. Sparks won with a majority of black and white Democrats alike.

In other words, ordinary politics trumped racial politics. Mr. Davis’s real heresies seem to have been his votes against ObamaCare. He was the only member of the Congressional Black Caucus to vote against the bill, leading Jesse Jackson to pronounce with his customary subtlety, “You can’t vote against health care and call yourself a black man.” Liberals and unions piled on.

Yet ObamaCare is so unpopular in Alabama that its entire House delegation voted against the bill, including fellow Democratic Representative Bobby Bright. The political reality is that Mr. Davis had to put some daylight between himself and the Obama agenda to have any shot in November.

The state’s predominantly black Democratic political establishment also turned on Mr. Davis because, in an Obama-like gesture toward post-racial politics, he refused to seek their endorsement. The President ran as a post-ideologue too, but as Mr. Davis’s defeat shows, that isn’t working out so well.

  66. Wbboei, the Birmingham story is what the party faces in 2010 and in the future.

It feels as if we are in a Pink lifeboat watching the Dimocratic Titanic rear up (in 2008 with Obama’s election) and then rapidly sink beneath the waves.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s political operation is going door-to-door this weekend in more than a thousand cities to try to persuade the voters who helped elect him to turn out for Democrats in the midterm elections. The Democratic National Committee and Obama’s political arm, Organizing for America, say more than 16,000 volunteers plan to talk to first-time voters who cast ballots in 2008 but could stay home this year without the president on the ballot. National Democrats say those voters are crucial to help turn back Republican momentum as the public has soured on Obama and his party’s agenda.”Turning out just a small percentage of these voters above historical averages could make a crucial difference in close elections this fall,” Organizing for America Director Mitch Stewart said. “That effort begins in earnest this Saturday.” Obama’s grass-roots organization has struggled to keep the energy from the president’s campaign. Although Obama’s brand remains potent and its e-mail list unmatched, many Democrats worry the machine may be too Obama-centric to help candidates down the ballot.

    ====================

I wonder what kind of evidence would support the claim that the videos were made in advance? The word of a boarder who says he found them at a particular time and place on the boat? A label saying “made in advance” in a handwriting that could be identified?

  76. The youtube video inwhich Hillary reminds us that Obama voted for the Bush Cheney energy bill sell-out which both she and McCain voted against is great end I would have loved to forward it to friends except for the very unfair and uninformed incrimination of Sarah Palin with her words “drill baby drill.”
Truth be told we are going to drill baby drill. As we speak Obama is securing guarantied loans to Brazil so his puppet master George Soros can make the most of his new massive investment in Petrolio Brazileiro, which he owns a whopping 15% of-thats controlling shares and which will be drilling of te coast of Rio.
As the video points out, NASA was able to shoot a rocket at the moon to check for oil so should we just except that no drilling in the US can be done safely? Sarah Palin has a record of holding Ouil companies accountable and more importantly, verifying their safety measures and practises instead of just taking them at their word. She taxed oil and natural gas 50% when most other states tax nothing or next to nothin. But when you are the kind or public servant that Sarah Palin was in Alaska and as a chairman of Alaska’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission stuff tends to to happen to you like humm.. 16 bogus ethics charges aimed at bankrupting you and pushing you out of office.
Learn the facts about Sarah Palin’s record on enviromental issues, particularly Oil, Gas and her exemplary fishing regulations in Alaska.
Liberals tend to go with the knee jerk reaction instead of common sense well thought out solutions.
Three Mile iland resulting inthis effect that stopped us from building new Nuclear power plants since that accident. Our energy doesn’t come from OZ. The Chinese companies are lined up to drill off the coast of South America closer to our shores than you can imagine, and George Soros will get his partner in crime Barak Obama to steal our tax dollars to help China drill baby drill.

  77. Juliette, the video we posted is very good at reminding us all of how Obama voted. You are correct that the video unfortunately veered off into another topic at the end.

Here is what another Hillary supporter site had to say:

    http://syd4.blogspot.com/2010/06/give-em-hell-hillary-thats-right-but.html

The first six and a half minutes of this video is simply excellent:

But where the video goes wrong is when it deviates into anti-Palin hysteria at about 6.3.

The kind of drilling Palin has advocated is not “deep sea.” It is on land and in shallow, more manageable waters.

The problem is this… we can’t have it both ways. We can’t say we oppose Anwar drilling and then turn a blind eye to deep sea excavation in the Gulf. When the latter is, clearly, far more dangerous.

At any rate…. I’m posting this video to my blog. WITH RESERVATIONS. The first half or so is wonderful. But… I am not about to promote the demonization of Sarah Palin. There’s no reason for me to demonize her. She is not the one taking hundreds of millions from BP to line her own pockets. And… in Alaska… Sarah had Big Oil by the balls. Not the other way around.

We might also want to get curious about who else, besides Mr. Obama, is “palling around with” British Petroleum:

[…according to The Washington Post, the reputation of some left-wing environmental groups has also been polluted by the incident.

“[T]he Nature Conservancy lists BP as one of its business partners. The Conservancy also has given BP a seat on its International Leadership Council and has accepted nearly $10 million in cash and land contributions from BP and affiliated corporations over the years,” Joe Stephens wrote for the Post May 24.

It’s not just Nature Conservancy either, the Post found $2 million in donations to Conservation International and relationships between BP and other lefty activist groups Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Sierra Club and Audubon.]

Ooooohhhh…. so THAT explains the slow reactions of the “conservation” groups I have donated to! Infuriating!!

And maybe THIS little factoid from Mother Jones Earth News provides a glimmer into the Obama Administration’s slow response???

Politico is following the BP money trail as well. And *guess who* is at the head of it? Hint: it’s not Sarah Palin.

H/T to Hillary Unleashed for the video link. But, really…. jcjcd did us all a disservice… by turning it into an anti-Palin diatribe.

  78. Thank you admin for supporting the truth. I was really exciting at having a great video to send to my friends who don’t know didly about Obama’s voting record. I was so sad when the anti-Palin propaganda started in. You know that it is all the dems are going to focus on. Palin believes in American exceptionalism. BP and Transocean are British companies and the the new National Socialist (former democrat) party is owned by a British operative George Soros. BP invented Cap and Trade along with Enron. All the Obama admiistration is doing is trying to figure out how to best exploit this global disaster to push Crap and Trade on the American people. “Never let a good crisis go to waste” isn’t that the new mantra of the democrats?
We need to keep an eye on Soro’s investments. he is a very dangerous man and is doing everything he can to manipulate elections in America. Sovergn nations are to Soros what Pitt Bulls are to Micheal Vic. He will keep on betting against us to win. Watch his new baby Petrolio Brazileiro collect Obama cash just like Tony Rezko did back in Obama’s Senate days. These guys are criminals and their behavior along with that of AG Eric Holder is treasonous. The entire democratic party is of the same mind as Helen Thomas. They have truly gone off the deep end; following Jim Jones into Guyana to experience their Marxist Utopia in a massive Kool-Aide festival.

  79. I failed to elaborate on : Sarah Palin believs in American exceptionalism.
What I believe is that we can lead the world in safe and prudent oil, natural gas and nuclear energy while we develope new energy solutions like solar and wind-NOT ETHANOL which eqauls mass starvation. Cap and Trade will have the same result that international fishing licenses had in the over fihing of oceans by richer nations that can buy rights to fish the waters of poorer nations that use more traditional prudent fishing methods. International fishing licenses contributed more ot global warming than anything. Fish droppings absorbe CO2. This Obama assisted disaster will be the worst thing to ever have happened to our enviroment. The knee jerk reaction to Sarah Palin’s policies as Governor of Alaska and Chairman of Alaskas Oil and Natural Gas Conservation Commission is exemplary. Don’t let the new dumbocrats believe differently. Palin loves and cherishs the pristine natural enviroment. Her carbon foot print could fit a million times inside Al Gore’s carbon foot print. We must not allow the dems to use this crisis to get their cap and trade bill passed. Keep on educating the public. It’s great that you support the truth admin. I sure appreciate it!
