‘Arabs’ Lawyer’ Obama To Blame: Israel Versus Flotilla Embargo Runners – The Perils Of False Hope And Naive Leaders

Obama is to blame. For years we warned about the perils of false Hope. We warned against Hope as a strategy. During the 2008 primaries we put Hope in its proper place – Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. But Obama exploited the idealism of the young and the gullibility of old fools. Hopium became the drink of choice for Obama’s Cult. Realists were damned as bitter one-note Joanies souring the glory of the Celestial Choirs.

Yesterday, in the Middle East, we saw the damage caused by false Hope. The Middle East joined the false Hope catastrophes in the Gulf of Mexico, genuine universal health care reform, the American economy, the environment, the financial markets, the unemployment numbers, North Korea, Iran, among others. The person singularly responsible for these catastrophes and the policy singularly responsible is Obama and Obamaism.

Rhett Butler, the fictional blockade runner of Gone With The Wind, knew the perils of false Hope. Butler was immediately denounced for his realism by the wide-eyed Confederate fools who thought they would defeat the Union within weeks. Butler ran the Union embargo of the Confederacy, for profit, but he knew every time he did so he took his life into his hands.

“Black Jack” Kennedy, who ran the American embargo to bring molasses and other necessary ingredients to the prohibition era liquor makers and bootleggers also knew the perils of running an embargo. The Kennedy family fortune was made, at great risk to life and limb, proving true the law of supply and demand. Running embargoes can be very profitable because they can be very deadly.

The “Flotilla” embargo runners made a great deal of noise about how they would die for their cause. That was before some of them actually died.

We wrote in September 2009 – The Danger Of Obama Weakness:

An Israeli attack on Iran nuclear facilities will be a disaster. No Israeli attack on Iran nuclear facilities will be a catastrophe.

Because of Obama weakness the Israelis will have to strike at Iran.

Hillary Clinton understands the need to send clear messages that are understood without any chance of doubt. Hillary sent a message during the 2008 election cycle that was clear. Dimocrats who want to live in a world of unreality attacked Hillary for preventing war by making very clear what American reaction would be to certain Iranian actions.

Arab capitals and Big Media outlets denounced Hillary’s statement as “the foreign policy of the madhouse”. But the real “madhouse” is the weakness displayed by Barack Obama which green lights fringe regimes, like the dubiously elected Iranian government, to make unchallenged threats to the world.

We also wrote at the time:

Weakness begets danger.

Obama’s ambitions, inexperience, applause-neediness, and weakness threaten us all.

With his Cairo speech, a speech in which for the first time an American president went to the Middle East without a stopover to consult with our Israeli allies, Obama signaled to many in the Arab world that he is on the Arab side. Obama snubbed Israel and the whole world saw that snub and were encouraged in their aggressions.

Indeed Obama has made it clear he wants to be the Arabs’ lawyer.

This dangerous Obama goading of Arabs and Muslims against American ally Israel has led to the current politics of Hopium and delusion we are now in. It is easy to see why Arabs and Muslims and interests hostile to the United States and Israel would so publicly announce embargo running – they know Obama supports them. These malevolent forces do not think Israel will do what it perceives to be in its interests if it conflicts with the wishes of an idiot American president. Yesterday Israel proved the folly of this delusion.

It was not the first time Israel has shown its determination to survive. After the Obama snub of the Israeli Prim Minister, Israel did not buckle and die.

Arabs, Muslims, and Israelis know Obama wants to be the “Arabs’ lawyer”. The former Israeli Mossad Chief knows Obama is weak and weakening America. Politico discussed Obama’s desire to be the Arabs’ lawyer in March of this year:

“Obama’s new focus, and the intense pressure his administration has placed on Netanyahu, have stirred deep concern among Israel’s allies on Capitol Hill, they say, because it represents an acceptance of the Arab narrative that Israeli intransigence lies at the heart of the Middle East conflict. And some observers see it in the context of a subtle, but major, shift in American strategy toward resolving it.”

Obama, the Arabs’ lawyer is to blame for raising false Hopes in the Arab and Muslim communities that Israel was ripe for the picking. Obama, the Arabs’ lawyer is as successful as Obama the opportunist and career climber has been at any job:

“The new model drawing attention from Democratic foreign policy hands, he said, is to build support among Arab leaders for a U.S. plan and then present that to Israel — to serve as the Arabs’ lawyer, rather than as Israel’s, in one formulation used to describe the effort in the region.

“To serve” not the American people, but as “the Arabs’ lawyer”. Arabs’ lawyer Obama gave false Hope to Arabs and Muslims that Israel can be mocked and its embargo ignored. Yesterday, Israel proved Obama’s false Hope is deadly. Obama snubbed Israel and encouraged Arabs and Muslims to believe there was a space between the United States and Israel and that led to the deadly reality of yesterday:

“But the confrontation also comes in the context of a long, unprecedented attempt by Obama to reset relations with the Arab and Muslim worlds.[snip]

Obama explained the logic of his actions in a private meeting with Jewish leaders that July, explaining the need to give Arab leaders “credibility” with their “street,” according to detailed notes taken by a participant in the meeting, “by creating space between us and Israel.”

Obama, the Arabs’ lawyer is to blame for yesterday’s ill advised attempt to run the Israeli embargo by the Flotilla. Obama, the Arabs’ lawyer is to blame for the false Hope he encouraged in those that boarded the flotilla ships about to enter a war zone.

Barack Obama is not qualified to be president:

Barack Obama was not, and is not qualified to be President of the United States. Put aside Obama’s flim-flam history, the thugs he surrounds himself with, his treacheries, his total lack of accomplishments other than self-advancement, his risible résumé, his stinky body odor, the secretiveness of his past, the lack of documentation about earlier periods of his life, drug use, the self-admitted inability to keep a paper in front of him for 2 seconds before losing it, the lies about lost documents from his Chicago legislative office, the grabbing of credit for work others have done, the race-baiting, the woman-hating, the profitable alliances with criminals which even got him a house, the lack of interest in his constituents, the obvious lies when he denies positions he has even affixed his signature to on questionnaires, his lies about being a reformer when he swims in the swamps of Chicago corruption, the ugly church mentor of 20 plus years, his smearing of opponents with sexual or racial slurs, the gay-bashing, the secret deals, the incompetence, the long list of corruptions and boobery… – put all this history we have documented aside. Barack Obama is not qualified to be President because he does not have a world-view which is congruent with reality.

Yesterday, while Obama the Arabs’ lawyer, was on V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N (not the first time Obama has been on vacation not on the job – recall earlier episodes of sleepy head Obama mimicking sleepy head Bush). Having won the Nobel Prize Obama is free to make a mess of everything he touches or discusses. Obama got the Nobel gold, but America got screwed.

The American hate Israel Amen corner was on overdrive yesterday. The Hopium flowed freely on sites such as NothingLeft. Not one whit ashamed of their support of the unqualified buffoon, they attacked Israel with gusto yesterday. The favorite source of information for these sites was news and videos from Al Jazeera. The excuses for those who want to destroy Israel and be the Arabs’ lawyer were many. Chief among the excuses are the “for its own good” Israel should accept these wonderful peace seeking embargo runners.

The flotilla was not a peace flotilla by any definition. It was very clear from the beginning that the embargo runners are determined to destroy Israel. Armed with the Hope that the Arabs lawyer, Barack Obama, would help them as they attempt to run a blockade in order to assist the terrorist organization Hamas, the flotilla set sail.

The flotilla, as we noted last night, was not a peace flotilla:

“Activists on board a six-ship flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip tried to lynch the Israel Navy commandos who boarded their Turkish-flagged boat early Monday, Israel Defense Forces sources told Haaretz on Monday afternoon. At least nine people were killed and several more were wounded in the fighting that erupted aboard one of the ships.

The IDF confirmed that at least seven Navy commandos had been wounded, two of them seriously, in a fight which apparently broke out after activists tried to seize their weapons.

The commandos, who intercepted the Turkish ferry Mavi Marmara after it ignored orders to turn back from its course to Gaza, said they had encountered violent resistance from activists armed with sticks and knives. According to the commandos, the activists threw one of the soldiers from the upper deck to the lower after they boarded. The organizers of the flotilla said the troops opened fire first.

An Israeli military spokesman said some of the commandos were equipped with paintball guns but the non-lethal weapons were not enough against activists who charged in with batons.

“They had pistols with live ammunition as back-up, to defend themselves,” he said. The IDF said it had confiscated two pistols from the boat.

One of the commandos told reporters he descended by rope from a helicopter onto one of the six ships in the convoy and was immediately attacked by a group of people waiting for them.

They beat us with metal sticks and knives,” he said. “There was live fire at some point against us.”

A Reuters cameraman on the Israel Navy ship Kidon, sailing close to the convoy, said IDF commanders monitoring the operation were surprised by the strong resistance put up by the pro-Palestinian activists.

One of the commandos said some of the soldiers were stripped of their helmets and equipment and a several were tossed from the top deck to a lower deck, forcing them to jump into the sea to escape.

They jumped me, hit me with clubs and bottles and stole my rifle,” one of the commandos said. “I pulled out my pistol and had no choice but to shoot.”

The soldiers said they were forced to open fire after the activists struck one of their comrades in the head and trampled on him. A senior IDF field commander ordered the soldiers then to respond with fire, a decision which the commandos said received full backing the military echelon.

The IDF said its rules of engagement allowed troops to open fire in what it called a “life-threatening situation”.

Navy fighters took control of six ships that tried to violate the naval blockade [of the Gaza Strip],” said a statement from the IDF. “During the takeover, the soldiers encountered serious physical violence by the protesters, who attacked them with live fire.”

Ask Rhett Butler, when you run a blockade, violate an embargo, you run the risk of death and destruction.

As has been noted this flotilla is not the first to try to run the blockade and end the Israeli embargo of Hamas. Five earlier attempts to run the blockade and assist Hamas have ended peacefully with the ships intercepted by the Israeli armed forces. This time, the anticipated peaceful “passive resistance” failed and most on the flotilla resisted violently:

This flotilla had as its motivation hatred of Israel and the Jews. As one participant says “Martyrdom or Gaza”:

For some, Martyrdom was achieved.

For the Arabs’ lawyer, another failure.

For the United States, more danger, brought about by Barack Obama.

  1. Blockade running is dangerous. That is the fact that matters. For the sake of public opinion, the Israeli’s are making their case that they acted properly, with video:

  2. Admin,

Your article made me want to cry. I have seen so much hatred in the media and on the internet since yesterday that I wondered if anyone would see the truth and be brave enough to post it.

Your article is spot on and very much appreciated!

  3. And while obama stays as quiet as a mouse, Hillary speaks out…

    ————–

Clinton urges ‘careful’ response on Israel flotilla

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday urged all parties to be careful in their responses to Israel’s attack on a Gaza-bound flotilla, steering clear of outright condemnation of the deadly assault.

“I think the situation from our perspective is very difficult and requires careful, thoughtful responses from all concerned,” Clinton told reporters, while also underscoring US sympathy for the “tragic loss of life and injuries” among those involved in the incident.

  4. Stop the hypocrisy about Israel

New York (CNN) — Enjoy hypocrisy? This past weekend you could glut the appetite.

On Monday, Israeli ships stopped a flotilla carrying materials that could be used for war, including cement that Israel maintained could be used to build bunkers, to Hamas-ruled Gaza. The crew of one boat resisted violently, triggering a firefight in which nine people were killed, most of them Turkish nationals.

Turkey is protesting vigorously. But, question: Turkey is a NATO ally, an applicant to the European Union. What is it doing allowing its nationals to smuggle cement that could build bunkers? Especially when those nationals belong to a group, the Turkish IHH (Insani Yardim Vakfi) that Israel has designated a terrorist organization?

The flotilla departed from Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus. Turkey’s occupation of half of Cyprus is deemed illegal by the European Union and the United Nations. If the government of Turkey feels so strongly about ending disputed occupations, why does it not start with the disputed occupation it is operating itself?

The flotilla followed a breathtaking Friday at the United Nations. The 189 signatories of the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty agreed on a final list of resolutions for a safer world. The nuclear threat from Iran? Unmentioned. Instead, the NPT resolution targeted — what a surprise — Israel.

Shamefully, the Friday resolution was joined by the United States. Yes, the Obama administration issued a statement at the same time that “deplores the decision to single out Israel” and also “the failure of the resolution to mention Iran.” The administration deplored — but it signed.

The Obama administration’s signature marks an abrupt departure from previous U.S. policy. Since the 1960s, the United States has accepted Israel’s nuclear arsenal on condition that Israel not threaten its neighbors. Israel has more than met that condition. In 1973, Egypt outright invaded Israel, in full confidence that Israel would not go nuclear so long as Egypt stopped short of attacking Israel’s cities.

It’s important to understand that Israel (like India and Pakistan) has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. So Israel’s nuclear force violates no commitments or pledges: unlike, say, the nuclear programs of Syria, Libya, Iraq and Iran, to name just four of the Middle Eastern countries that have been caught violating the NPT.

Iran by contrast is violating the NPT. Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. And Iranian leaders have threatened to use the nuclear weapons they are seeking to annihilate Israel.

On Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran has accumulated enough nuclear material for two bombs, when fully enriched. And the latest round of U.N. sanctions will do nothing to stop that bomb, because they omit the most crucial measures:

    • A ban on exports of gasoline to Iran (Iran now imports half its gasoline)

    • Measures to sever Iran’s central bank from the global payments system

The measures adopted by the Security Council last week are not only toothless, but they even contain a loophole legalizing the sale of Russian air defenses to Iran, the better to protect nuclear facilities from action by the United States or Israel.

OK, so maybe it is not news that the U.N. system is hypocritical and useless. What is news is this: The Obama administration has broken with 40 years of precedent and has affixed its signature to a document suggesting that it is Israel’s weapons — not Iran’s — that ought to be priority No. 1 in the Middle East.

And now, post-flotilla, the Obama administration stands in danger of being drawn into the attempt to open Hamas-ruled Gaza to military-capable imports, and to force Israel to engage in some kind of negotiation with Hamas.

Former Ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk, who is close to Obama administration thinking, outlined in the New York Times Monday the contours of just such a deal:

“The administration needs to work on a package deal in which Hamas commits to preventing attacks from, and all smuggling into, Gaza. In return, Israel would drop the blockade and allow trade in and out.”

It’s a pretty thought. Pro-Hamas groups did not go to the trouble of organizing a flotilla of supplies that could be used for war in order to end smuggling of war material into Gaza.

Nor are pro-Hamas groups seeking to ship the material into Gaza in order to thwart future attacks on Israel. Rebuilding Hamas’ bunkers is not a step toward peace.

But as with the Obama administration’s joining the anti-Israel resolution at the United Nations on Friday, followed by after-the-fact explanations that Israel had nothing to fear, so the Obama administration is now being drawn into another anti-Israel action, again cushioned by assurances that, “This is for your own good.”

Monday morning, ABC’S Jake Tapper reported an unnamed administration official promising “no daylight” between the United States and Israel.

But the same administration official who promised “no daylight” also told Tapper: “The president has always said that it will be much easier for Israel to make peace if it feels secure.” Meaning: first we soothe you, then we squeeze you?

  5. The Nutroots celebrated last night because they think this will finish off Israel. But they are wrong. Again.

    http://www.newsweek.com/blogs/the-gaggle/2010/06/01/why-israel-s-attack-on-an-aid-flotilla-won-t-be-a-tipping-point-in-its-relationship-with-the-u-s-.html

Activists and bloggers who are critical of Israel hope that the deaths of nine aid workers will be a watershed moment in Israeli-U.S. relations. Here’s why they are wrong.

Since Israel’s attack on a flotilla of six Turkish ships bound for the Gaza Strip early Monday, Israel’s critics in advocacy organizations and the left-wing blogosphere have eagerly anticipated that this might be a “tipping point” in U.S.-Israeli relations. (By tipping point they mean the point at which the U.S. adjusts its staunch support of Israel’s defense policies.) Liberal blogger Digby’s incensed post on the attack is simply titled “Tipping Point?” And Salon’s Glenn Greenwald writes, “If Israel’s goal were to provoke as much disgust and contempt for it as possible, it’s hard to imagine how it could be doing a better job.”
In much of the world, and at the United Nations, Greenwald’s analysis is correct, as CNN reports. In fact, more than a month ago, Dr. Arafat Shoukri, president of the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG) said that the flotilla’s purpose was to highlight the adverse effects of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, saying, “one action or event will likely not be enough to force Israel to realize that the siege is unsustainable. But conditions are ripe to make this flotilla the ‘tipping point.'”

When it comes to the U.S. anyone hoping that the deaths of nine foreign aid workers will cause the U.S. to adopt a notably different stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ought not to hold their breath. Current political circumstances, including the fact that this is an election year, make it very unlikely.
Just consider the difference in the statements by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President Obama. “I condemn the violence, and Israel must explain,” said Moon, while Obama was considerably more circumspect. The White House statement on Obama’s call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “The President expressed deep regret at the loss of life in today’s incident, and concern for the wounded, many of whom are being treated in Israeli hospitals. The President also expressed the importance of learning all the facts and circumstances.”This is not a paradigm shift, nor will it become one.
What Israel’s left-wing critics seem to forget is that, unlike, a few decades ago when anti-Zionist paleo-conservatives like Pat Buchanan still held sway in the Republican Party, Israel’s most unquestioning support is not found among the mainstream liberal humanitarians that might be swayed by Israel’s aggression towards the Palestinians and their allies. Neo-conservatives and anti-U.N. nationalists like John Bolton and Dick Cheney have taken over the Republican Party’s foreign policy establishment, while Christian conservatives have decided to embrace Israel for theological reasons. Liberal doves should know better than to think those groups will be so moved by the deaths of 9 foreign Muslims as to re-think their stance on the Middle East.

So what they really are hoping for is a shift within the liberal/Democratic establishment. Bad timing. The Democrats are at risk of losing both Houses of Congress this Fall. No strategist in his right mind would tell them to shift focus away from their popular efforts on financial reform, unemployment relief, or letting gays serve openly in the military, to pick this fight with the GOP. The Democrats side with Hamas against the only democracy in the Middle East? The RNC press releases would write themselves.
The Democrats’ relative strength has always been domestic issues. They never want to switch the debate to foreign policy in an election year. That’s why they caved and pushed through President Bush’s use of force in Iraq resolution in 2002, hoping to change the topic to more comfortable ground.
And that’s beside the fact that leaders of the Democrats congressional strategy such as Sen. Charles Schumer and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel are noted Israel supporters, and so are many important Democratic donors in New York and California.
Meanwhile, as Digby herself complains, the media coverage of this issue does not lend itself a popular uprising against U.S. support for Israel. Given the bi-partisan nature of Israel’s support in Congress, the obligatory left versus right debate that frames every partisan issue does not get placed on this one.

  6. This whole situation makes me sick. This whole fake “peace flotilla” business was obviously a set up to make the Israelies and the IDF look bad. What was the IDF supposed to do when set upon by ruffians with weapons attacking them and throwing them off the boat? Four members of the IDF were hurt in the incident (2 of them being thrown overboard).

Israel has every right, like other countries, to control what comes in and out of its territory and ports. The Palestinians have been aided and supported by countries like Turkey with not only food and medical supplies, but also contraband like weapons. Such items were being smuggled through the border between Egypt and Palestine until the border was closed down.

I don’t understand the effort by the MSM and the international community to condemn something that is common practice in other countries such as Iran, North Korea, etc. Those countries are routinely ignored when enforcing their territorial boundaries and waterways, so what’s the big diff with Israel? Oh, that’s right, Israel is the big baddie that won’t comply with forking over it’s sovereignty to the likes of Hamas and the Paletinians.

The whole situation reeks and the fact that Obummer isn’t saying anything AT ALL really says it all. So much for hope and change in the era of affirmative action ineptitude.

  7. http://realclearpolitics.blogs.time.com/2010/06/01/republicans-jump-out-to-historic-lead-in-gallup-generic-ballot/

Gallup’s generic polling shows the number of voters saying that they would vote for Republicans rising three points from last week, while the number saying they will vote for Democrats dropped four points. The 49%-43% lead for the Republicans is the largest that the pollster has ever recorded for the party. Moreover, Democratic enthusiasm for voting this fall fell a point, while enthusiasm among Republicans stayed about fifteen points higher. This indicates an even wider lead for Republicans once Gallup imposes a likely voter screen this fall.

There’s any number of reasons for this: the public’s perception of Obama’s response to the oil spill, the shaky stock market performance last week, continued concern about the economy and spending. The bottom line is that, despite what is perceived as an underperformance for the Republicans in PA-12 a couple of weeks ago, there are still plenty of Democrats in trouble for this November.

  8. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/38010.html

New York Democratic Reps. Anthony Weiner, Jerrold Nadler, Gary Ackerman, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) have all vigorously supported Israel’s boarding an aid ship bound for the blockaded Gaza — an act that resulted in ten deaths and a U.N. condemnation.

The comments expose a bit of daylight between the White House and Jewish members of Congress. Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said the administration is “greatly supportive of [Israel’s] security. That’s not going to change.” And in a statement, the White House said it had “regret” for the deaths but supported an investigation to uncover the facts.

Pro-Israel Democrats aren’t being so nuanced.

“I think that members of the United States Congress understand why the blockade was in place against Hamas and support it, once you start at that place, a boat that bows into the teeth of that blockade isn’t going to be viewed sympathetically,” Weiner said. “To the extent that any time that there is a flare-up of tensions, it’s bad for U.S. and Israeli efforts of peace. We obviously had a bad weekend.”

Ackerman, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on the Middle East, said he “strongly support(s) Israel’s right to defend itself, and the right of Israel’s naval commandos, who were executing a legal mission, to defend themselves by using force when they were brutally attacked.”

He called Hamas the “true villain in this drama.

Author Joe McGinniss accused former Alaska GOP Gov. Sarah Palin on Tuesday of using “Nazi” tactics in unleashing the “hounds of hell” upon him in protest of his moving next door.

Palin first announced that McGinniss was renting the home next to her Wasilla residence in a post on her Facebook page, which among other things suggested he could see into the bedroom of the governor’s teenage daughter.

Since then, McGinniss has been a target of conservative scorn online and has even received death threats for moving next door to Palin, a reaction for which the author blames Palin.

“Sarah hysterically puts up this Facebook page with all sorts of ugly innuendo,” McGinniss said Tuesday during an interview on NBC’s “Today” show.

McGinniss said the reaction to his moving next door to the former governor has demonstrated “the power Palin has to incite hatred and her willingness and readiness to do it.”

“She has pushed a button and unleashed the hounds of hell, and now they’re out there slavering and barking and growling,” McGinniss said.

“I’m not calling her a Nazi,” he added, “but that’s the same kind of tactic that the Nazi troopers used in Germany in the ’30s. And I don’t think there is any place for it in America.”

McGinniss plans to stay in the house through the summer as he completes his research on the former governor.

Oh so true… (does his body sink? 😉

Anyone that didn’t expect Barry to take the Arabs side was kidding themselves with their own false hope.

Out of Hillary, McCain and Obama…the Dems gamed the political system to get the person that didn’t support Israel in the White House.

I spoke to many well educated Jewish Dems about not trusting Barry in the general election, they all thought he would defend Israel like any good Dem would. I hope they are in shock, shocked enough to finally realize the idiot they helped push into the Oval office is not a real Democrat. He is a fraud, he is a liar, he is Slick Rick the Poverty Pimp at best.

  11. From Bitterpol
    *******

I’m going to post how they screwed Sarah Palin over, the pervert/stalker Mcgeneeis who uses binoculars to peer into Sarah’s home was interviewed by Matt Lauer…. they asked to interview Sarah, she decline, but she asked that if she provides a written statement by her and Todd, would that be shown to the audience IN FULL.

    THEY SCREWED HER AGAIN!

I’m going to post her facebook post in regards to this… it is a bit long, but I want to post just how evil and vile these “Mainstream” aka propoganda media is…

    =========================

It may seem like a small thing, considering the state of the union and international issues of the day, but let me share some facts surrounding a most recent illustration of the untrustworthiness of America’s mainstream media.

Yesterday, Todd and I spent our Memorial Day evening exchanging emails with NBC in regards to the interview they conducted this morning with our new neighbor. As you’ll recall, the “journalist” Joe McGinniss moved all the way from Massachusetts to Wasilla—literally right next door to our home—after tracking us down in various forums this past year, so that he could be close to his “subject matter” while he writes his book about me.

When NBC asked to interview me for this story, I politely declined. NBC then asked for a statement from us and promised to run it as a full screen graphic during their interview with McGinniss. We were glad to provide a statement and appreciated NBC’s promise to run it. Todd and I both crafted the statement very carefully because our new neighbor has taken to accusing us of “inciting hatred”—a charge which we obviously take very seriously. We knew that he would make more accusations like this, and we felt very strongly that such comments should not go unanswered. So, we emailed NBC the following statements:

“McGinniss has followed us for some time now, from showing up on our doorstep last winter, bidding over $60,000 for a military charity auction dinner with me, writing the hit pieces, attending at least one Outside book event, etc. He has a right to pursue his subject, I suppose, and certainly has a right to live wherever he wants, but my family also has a right to expect privacy, and hopefully to enjoy peace this summer. Good fences do make for good neighbors. The fence is now up, and I hope that we can enjoy peace. The media sensationalizes the recent McGinniss’ tactic so the public will tune in to whatever the latest episode is, always with ratings in mind, and that’s unfortunate.” —Sarah Palin

“What’s also unfortunate is journalists’ tactics like this, because it keeps good people from wanting to get involved in public service.” —Todd Palin

NBC responded to thank us for our statements and again promised that they would “make sure” that the Today Show airs both of our statements “as a fullscreen graphic during the segment tomorrow.” We were grateful because we knew that our statements would counter any accusation of “inciting hatred.” And boy was it necessary because in his interview on NBC this morning McGinniss doubled down on his accusation to actually compare us to the Nazis!

But there was just one problem: NBC broke their promise and didn’t run our statements after all. So, the “journalist’s” sensational claims about us being Nazis went unchallenged. We emailed NBC this morning to ask why our statement wasn’t aired. We were given a lame excuse and told that they would run it tomorrow (after the damage had been done) and that they would be happy to interview me about it (which was their aim all along because journalism today is all about ratings and not about truth).

The interview itself was quite an eye-opener. I’m not sure what “ugly innuendo” was in my Facebook post or why it is so controversial to suggest that the presence of a hostile “journalist” writing a hostile book about me is an imposition on my children who simply want to enjoy their summer outside. When I say or write “leave my kids alone,” it means simply that: let my kids have a fun summer without having a “journalist” 15 ft from their play area. How that equates me with the Nazis is quite beyond me. If receiving nasty emails and even death threats is the standard by which we judge “inciting hatred,” then the left in this country has been “inciting hatred” on my family for almost two years now. We don’t complain about this or call people “Nazis” because we value freedom of speech enough to believe that even ignorant and hateful people have a right to it. It’s a shame that a self-proclaimed “journalist” doesn’t understand this.

And it’s a shame that Todd and I had another disappointing encounter with the media on Memorial Day of all days. It was time that we could have spent with our kids and on a day when we honor those who have died in defense of our Constitution, including our freedom of the press.

Freedom of the press is integral to our democracy, but reporters must be held accountable because with power comes responsibility. A corrupt, deceptive, and manipulative media can ruin the lives of good people, disrupt families, destroy reputations, and ultimately hurt our country.

I’d like to believe that it’s not too late to demand integrity from our media. Thank goodness for social networking sites like this and new media sites which have allowed us to get around the “lamestream” media and present the facts. But let this story be another example of why you must seek out facts and truth about anything and everything you see reported today.

    Turkish (blood)bath

    By RALPH PETERS

    Last Updated: 10:52 AM, June 1, 2010

    Posted: 12:21 AM, June 1, 2010

Yesterday’s “aid convoy” incident off the coast of Gaza wasn’t about bringing humanitarian supplies to the terrorist-ruled territory. It wasn’t even about Israel.

It was about Turkey’s determination to position itself as the leading Muslim state in the Middle East.

Three ships of that six-ship pro-terror convoy flew Turkish flags and were crowded with Turkish citizens. The Ankara government — led by Islamists these days — sponsored the “aid” operation in a move to position itself as the new champion of the Palestinians.

And Turkish decision-makers knew Israel would have to react — and were waiting to exploit the inevitable clash. The provocation was as cynical as it was carefully orchestrated.

The lead vessel, the Mavi Marmara, just happened to have an al-Jazeera TV crew on board to film Israel’s response. Ironically, the early videos would’ve been counterproductive, had world leaders and journalists not been programmed to blame everything on Israel.

Those videos showed Israeli commandos rappelling onto the ship with both hands on the rope (making it rather hard to use a weapon), yet activists claimed the Israelis opened fire as they descended.

Purely by coincidence, dozens of “peace activists” waited with sharpened iron bars, clubs, slingshots — and rifles. Of course, the nine dead in the melee were all Israel’s victims.

The first wave of Israeli commandos reportedly were armed only with paintball rounds for crowd control. Inspect those videos of maddened peaceniks assaulting the soldiers as they landed on deck. You don’t see any Israelis pointing rifles — they’re fending off blows.

But the claims of pro-terrorist “peace advocates” are given instant credence.

The US government’s initial response was restrained, but Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu understandably canceled his meeting with President Obama, scheduled for today. Bibi’s got an emergency on his hands back home, as well-organized protests sweep the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the Europeans and UN bonzes rage at Israel with unseemly relish, but ignore the luxury lifestyles of Gaza’s insider elite and the fact that no Palestinian’s going hungry. The Israelis had even offered to transfer the aid aboard those ships to the Palestinians — as long as they could inspect it.

But neither the activists nor the Turkish government wanted a negotiated outcome. This was a stunt from the start.

Now, as we wait to see if Hamas and Hezbollah up the ante, the world ignores Turkey’s decisive role in this fiasco.

The US and the European Union cling to the fiction that Turkey’s a “westernized Muslim democracy.” But Turkey’s moving to the east as fast as the Islamist leaders of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) can drag it there.

Turkish leaders visit the West and sing, “Democracy, democracy, democracy!” We coo and clap. Then they go east and cry, “Islam, Islam, Islam!” And we insist they don’t mean it.

Then there’s Turkey’s unfortunate NATO membership. Since the rise of its Islamists, Turkey has been a Trojan horse, not an ally. What happens now if Ankara provokes a military confrontation? How would we respond, given NATO’s mutual-defense agreements?

The madcap agenda of Turkey’s current rulers is to create a 21st-century version of the Ottoman Empire. Turks even mutter about the caliphate — headed for centuries by the Turkish sultan. This is explosive stuff. And the Turks are playing with matches.

But we’ve obstinately ignored every warning sign. First, our “ally” stabbed us in the back on the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom, denying our troops their planned routes into Iraq. Then the Turkish media intensified its anti-American fantasies.

Headscarves became de rigeur for the wives of top officials in Ankara as the Turks made mischief in Iraq. Emulating the history-obliterating Saudis, the Turks began work on the vast Ilisu Dam — which will permanently submerge pre-Islamic and Kurdish archaeological sites of incalculable value. (The Bamiyan Buddhas destroyed by the Taliban were of comparatively minor interest to researchers.)

Then, just last month, the Turks moved to provide the Iranian regime with cover for its nuclear program. And we still didn’t get it.

The most dramatic transformation in the Middle East since the fall of the shah is playing out before us. And we can’t see behind the mask of the “plight of the Palestinians” (a key Obama administration concern).

In yesterday’s confrontation, Israel behaved clumsily. The peace activists behaved savagely. The Turks behaved cynically. The world reacted predictably.

    And Washington scratched its head.

Ralph Peters’ latest book is “Endless War.”

Why do they always whine when public opinion turns against them?

  14. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/06/anthony_weiner_strongly_defend.html

“This was about instigating an altercation and they succeeded,” Weiner, one of Israel’s leading allies in Congress, told me. He insisted that the activists piloting the flotilla were offered other alternatives by Israel, such as docking the ship and transporting the supplies to Gaza by land.

“If you want to instigate a conflict with the Israeli navy it isn’t hard to do,” Weiner continued. “They were offered alternatives. Instead they chose to sail into the teeth of an internationally recognized blockade.”

Pushed on whether the Israeli response, which killed at least nine, was disproportionate, Weiner wouldn’t acknowledge it. “It’s always easy to criticize the response to a hostile act, but for a week at least the Israelis were trying to prevent this altercation,” Weiner said, adding that the Israelis had been “set upon.”

“It’s very easy now to say they should have come in using water cannons and harsh language,” Weiner said, speaking of the Israeli commandos.

When I asked Weiner whether it was legit for the activists to use the flotilla to draw global attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he suggested that wasn’t the real motive. “If they were truly interested in providing aid, there were ways,” Weiner said. “This was about instigating an altercation and they succeeded.”

Pressed on whether it was defensible for Israel to authorize the boarding of the flotilla, given that such a move was certain to provoke an international outcry, Weiner again turned the blame back on Turkey and the activists.

“Anything that israel does would create an international outcry,” Weiner said. “This entire effort was intended to create an international outrcry.”

  15. Leslie Gelb:

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-05-31/israel-was-right-to-board-the-gaza-flotilla/?cid=hp:mostpopular1

Israel had every right under international law to stop and board ships bound for the Gaza war zone late Sunday. Only knee-jerk left-wingers and the usual legion of poseurs around the world would dispute this. And it is pretty clear that this “humanitarian” flotilla headed for Gaza aimed to provoke a confrontation with Israel. Various representatives of the Free Gaza Movement, one of the main organizers of this deadly extravaganza, have let it slip throughout Monday that their intention was every bit as much “to break” Israel’s blockade of Gaza as to deliver the relief goods.

The Israeli commandos who stormed the ship, where fighting erupted, badly mishandled the situation. But theirs was a mistake in pursuit of a legal goal, not a war crime. And as for calls for international investigations, they represent the usual hypocritical nonsense that will go nowhere. Except for those who routinely fool themselves about the judiciousness and effectiveness of action by the United Nations or the European Union, everyone understands their “investigations” will amount to nothing. Only the United States might do something useful—if the White House would only seize quickly the practical solution staring it in the face.

Regarding international law, blockades are quite legal. The United States and Britain were at war with Germany and Japan and blockaded them. I can’t remember international lawyers saying those blockades were illegal—even though they took place on the high seas in international waters. There would be a general violation only if the hostile actions against the ships took place in waters under the jurisdiction of another sovereign state. Thus, for example, if the Israelis stopped the ships in Egyptian waters, that would have been a violation.

On a more tactical level, violations could occur if the force used to block and board were “disproportionate” to the circumstances. Those friendly to Gaza aboard the ship claim disproportionality, but this is not supported by the video available. In any event, and as a practical matter, no one is going to be able to prove exactly what happened on that ship Sunday night. Nonetheless, the overriding facts remain that Gazan leaders proclaim their goal is to destroy Israel, have tried for years to do so by missile attacks and terrorism, and that Israel has every right to protect itself under international law, including by blockades in international waters. [snip]

Or listen to Huwaida Arraf, one of the Free Gaza Movement leaders. She said on Sunday before the incident that the boats would steam forward to Gaza “until they either disable our boats or jump on board.” How on earth did she expect that strategy would not lead to violence? [snip]

So, the Free guys and gals achieved their real purpose—to provoke the Israelis, hope they did stupid things (which they did by boarding the ship with commandos who weren’t prepared to do this job), and stirred international outrage. [snip]

Well, where was all that international outrage and demand for explanations and retribution when the North Koreans sunk a South Korean ship? Where was it when the Gazans attacked Israel? Where, when Afghan men flogged their women for not wearing veils? Where, when Saudi Arabia funds terrorists around the world? This international outrage is highly selective, isn’t it? The one consolation is that the international community, such as it has become, doesn’t get anything of value done.

  16. And now Egypt is going to back down on supporting Israel’s blockade by allowing these flotillas to move through their waterways.

Will they stop them first and thoroughly examine their cargo? Or will they just let them go on their merry way, thereby further aiding and abetting the arming of these terrorists?

  17. Well, just saw on CNN that Al and Tipper Gore have split…well will wonders never cease! 22. Great article per usual Admin. Obama is 100% resaponsible for what happened by weakening Israel and embolding Arabs/Muslims since the firt second he was sworn in. Israel , a country about the size of Rhode Island, is faced with 1 billion neigboring enemies who have tried to destroy her continuously since 1948. Yet, in Obama’s perverse world, along with Europe and off course most other coutries, the world’s problems would go away but for those Jews… Israel, in the past, at least always had the US to counter world anti-semitism, but with Obama , Israel is more vulnerable than ever. Facing over 100,000 missile aremed at her cities on her borders, a government in Iran racing to get a nuclear weapon to destroy her, and a fake partner for peace in the PA( which refuses to meet directly with Israel and acknoledge Israer as a Jewish state), events like yesterday are not at all “shocking”. Israel is losing the propaganda war to the Muslims as well as thr strategic advantages it once held due to upgraded Arab military hardware, and the US’s refusal to provide arms to Israel as in the past which gave it botha quantitative and qualitative advantage over her enemies.
Now, with Iran having enough enriched Uranium to produce two (2) atomic weapons (and I blame Bush as well as Obama for this) Israel will strike Iran and yesterdays incident will look like school play as the world we literally be facing a possible WW3….Obama’s weakness , inherit anti-Israeli world view, and the failure of so called responsible nations like Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China to prevent Iran from going nuclear all share in the catastrophe to follow.
By the way, compare the world’s reaction to North Korea sinking a S. Korean ship to Israel defending it’s soldiers who certainly would have been beaten to death had lethal force not be used…That is what happens when you let a rogue nation like N. Korea obtain nukes-there is not much you can do unless you want a potential nuclear strike on the S. Korean penisula. We can do very little at this time against Iran (who also recentlh killed hundreds if not thousands of it’s own citizens) and will be like eunuchs in a whore house once Iran gets the bomb(s).
PS-Helen Thomas , whom I belive is of Lebanese heritage, use to be an amusing prop, but has over the past decade made a complete mockey out of these press conferences.

  24. http://womenstate.blogspot.com/2010/06/after-facing-criticism-obama-to-meet.html

President Obama intends to meet with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Thursday, a White House official told FoxNews.com, after criticism mounted over the president’s refusal to meet her while she is in Washington this week.

Brewer had requested a face-to-face meeting with Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the former Arizona governor, as tensions rise between his administration and the Grand Canyon State over its controversial law clamping down on illegal immigrants.

White House spokesman Adam Abrams had said over the weekend that Obama’s schedule “doesn’t allow for a meeting” with Brewer but added that the president “does intend to sit down with the governor in the future.”

The apparent snub came after Justice Department officials told Arizona’s attorney general and aides to the governor Friday that the federal government has serious reservations about the state’s new immigration law.

Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican who helped draft Arizona’s SB 1070, called Obama’s refusal to meet with Brewer “an insult.”

“He’s willing to have a beerfest with an officer in Cambridge after he misspoke,” Pearce told Fox News on Tuesday, referring to a photo-op the president held last summer after he incited a feud over the bias of a police officer who arrested a black professor at the front door to his home.

“He misspoke on this bill also and he’s not willing to meet with the governor of the state of Arizona?” Pearce said.

Letters: Our readers side with Israel after Gaza incident

By Paul Russell June 1, 2010

Readers have let us know how they feel about Israel’s forceful storming of a Turkish ship off the coast of Gaza early Monday morning. Of the dozens of letters that have come in, very few criticize the Jewish state; most vigorously support its action. Here are some examples.

Re: Jenin On The High Seas, editorial, May 30.
I read with interest this editorial’s courageous analysis of Israel’s constant battle against the propagandists who have an affinity to words and phrases such as “massacre” and “brutal aggression.” While Israelis are resigned to the fact that Israel is the favourite scapegoat for the world’s problems, there were some honest peace-seeking do-gooders aboard the flotilla. Unfortunately, it is that naive minority who were themselves duped by their fellow travelling thugs and who ended up serving the role as human shields for a group intent on picking a fight even before they set sail.
    S. Jonah Pressman, Jerusalem.

Kudos to the Free Gaza Movement, and of course, its proxy state, Iran, for a brilliant PR job with this “humanitarian” convoy. The orders likely were: Make it purely humanitarian, carry no live ammunition on board (only knives and clubs), have ships refuse Israeli orders to pull into an Egyptian port and when Israel attacks, fight them with everything you’ve got. That will allow evil regimes such as Iran, China and Russia to condemn the action, deflecting true human rights violations in their countries. And when the report comes out showing that Israel did everything it could to avoid casualties, that will, at best, make the back pages of most newspapers.
    Once again, well done!
    Steven Kastner, Thornhill, Ont.

The United Nations failed to stop genocides in Rwanda, Cambodia, Darfur and Bosnia. Yet it called an emergency meeting over an Israeli raid on a boat. The UN’s true agenda is on display for everyone to see.
    Jonathan Mackenzie, Toronto.

Last week, a Mexican airliner bound from Paris to Mexico was forced to land in Montreal, as a person on board was on the American no-fly list. Since the plane was passing over the States, the U.S. rules were still in effect at 32,000 feet. This caused no public outrage.
Israel has its rules too. It has an embargo on ships entering Gaza and insists on inspecting them, as ships have been known to carry weapons that have been used against Israeli citizens. Israel only wants what many of the rest of us enjoy: peace. Israel is only doing what the rest of the world has and would do, if they were faced with the same situation.
    Jeff Spooner, Kinburn, Ont.

  27. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin doesn’t mince words.

Israeli Flotilla: Don’t Take Mainstream Media Coverage at Face Value

The media, as usual, seems to be reporting only one side of the Israeli Flotilla incident. Don’t trust the mainstream media to give you both sides of a story fairly… you must seek out fair reporting to ensure you have all the information.

As far too many in the media, and in various governments, rush to condemn Israel, we must put the recent events off Israel’s coast into the right perspective. This “relief” convoy was not about humanitarian aid, as the liberal mainstream media keeps reporting. The whole operation was designed to provoke Israel, not to provide supplies to Palestinians held hostage by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Anyone who sees the video of Israeli commandos being attacked as they land on that ship knows the people aboard were vicious thugs, not “peace activists.” The media insults our intelligence with their outright mischaracterization of who these enemies are.

Israel delivers thousands of tons of humanitarian supplies every week to Gaza. These ships could have offloaded their cargoes at a nearby Israeli port if they really wanted to help the people of Gaza. Instead, they chose to incite confrontation and violence. Israel has a right to prevent arms shipments to Gaza that will be used to target innocent Israelis, so they were legitimately checking the cargo on the flotilla. Turkey has chosen to condemn Israel but we should be asking some serious questions about Turkey’s role in this whole affair. Why is a fellow member of NATO sponsoring such a dangerous publicity stunt? As one expert points out: “Three ships of that six-ship pro-terror convoy flew Turkish flags and were crowded with Turkish citizens. The Ankara government – led by Islamists these days – sponsored the ‘aid’ operation in a move to position itself as the new champion of the Palestinians. And Turkish decision-makers knew Israel would have to react – and were waiting to exploit the inevitable clash. The provocation was as cynical as it was carefully orchestrated.”

We can only hope the Obama Administration does not join the anti-Israel chorus in the aftermath of this staged confrontation. Please, Mr. President, we need to let Israelis know we stand with them in their fight against terrorists and those who arm and support them. America and her ally, Israel, stand by waiting for your response.

    – Sarah Palin

  28. That brave young soldier is fortunate to be alive as the so called peace activists tried to rip him apart. Israel is an exceptionally talented and resourceful country, but they do seem to be lacking in a coordinated public relations campaign to off set what they had to have known were the possible outcome of this flotila. I have always admired Bibi as I rememeber him as a boy appearing so eloquently on Nightline, but truthfully, as PM, he seems to freeze up at time…

  29. I am beginning to like Sarah Palim more and more…if she would be more moderate on social issues , she really would find widespread acceptance.

  30. Looks like in NM we will have two women running for Gov. Also, Pearce, who lost his Senate seat is leading, and he will try to take that back from the Dem in Nov.

  31. By the way, I won an evidentiary hearing today on a restraining order for repeat violence under Fla. Stat. 784.046 for domestic violence. I am a PI attorney by trade, but took this case pro bono to protect a friend of a dear friend from a violent, socio-path of an excuse for a man. Mass. Senate passes crackdown on illegal immigrants

(……..and the amazing thing is, it is bipartisan!!!)

The measure, which passed on a 28-10 vote as an amendment to the budget, would bar the state from doing business with any company found to break federal laws barring illegal immigrant hiring. It would also toughen penalties for creating or using fake identification documents, and explicitly deny in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants.

The amendment would also require the state’s public health insurance program to verify residency through the Department of Homeland Security, and would require the state to give legal residents priority for subsidized housing.

The amendment will now be part of negotiations with the House as part of the entire state budget.

  34. That Clinton Karma Curse really bites. Forget Gore for now. There’s this, and the daughter is now dragged in:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/01/earlyshow/main6537470.shtml

(CBS) Updated: 6:30 PM, June 1: In an email to MSNBC’s Norah O’Donnell, Elizabeth Edwards stated that she is not trying to deny John Edwards custody of their two younger children in the event of her death.

Elizabeth Edwards reportedly doesn’t want her estranged husband, former presidential hopeful John Edwards, to raise their kids if she loses her battle with cancer.

But can a mother legally keep an estranged spouse from getting custody in that kind of situation?

The New York Daily News reported that Elizabeth is looking into whether the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, Cate, can assume legal guardianship over their two youngest children, Jack and Emma. The newspaper reports that, if she dies from the breast cancer she’s fighting, she doesn’t want them raised by John.

Elizabeth’s sister told the paper: “There a lot of family members who are willing and able” to take care of 10-year-old Jack and Emma, now 12.

Since Elizabeth announced her cancer had returned, John has admitted having an affair with his former campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter. He’s also acknowledged he is the father of Hunter’s now-2-year-old daughter.

Experts say the law does not appear to be on Elizabeth Edwards’ side.

Myrna Felder, a divorce lawyer, told CBS News, “We see this all the time, with one parent trying through a will or other instrument not to have custody with the other parent, and it’s very rarely successful.”

But why wouldn’t it likely work for Elizabeth Edwards?

Any move that denies children access to a surviving parent is usually not considered to be in the children’s best interest, legal observers say.

Felder said, “Think about the children: They lose their mother. They need to have their father. You don’t take away the second parent.”

CBS News correspondent Elaine Quijano said an exception could be if a parent was proven to be unfit. John Edwards is facing potential legal trouble: A grand jury is investigating whether he illegally funneled campaign funds to Hunter.

The new Gallup generic ballot is out. Republicans have jumped to a 49-43 advantage, which National Review Online says is the largest Republican lead in 60 years.

Given the historical accuracy of the Gallup generic ballot in midterm elections, let’s plug this result in to the Swingometer.

In 2008, per Wikipedia, the national popular vote for the House went 53% for the Democrats and 43% for the Republicans. That translates to a 55 D-45 R two party vote when we subtract other votes. That gives the Democrats a 10 point advantage in 2008.

The current Gallup Generic Ballot reads 43 for the Democrats and 49 for the Republicans. That translates to a two party vote of 47 D-53 R, or a Republican advantage of 6.

From R-10 to R+6 adds up to a 16 point swing from 2008. If every district moved 16 points from 2008, the Swingometer projects a 45 seat Republican gain, for 223 seats in the House and the majority.

This will typically be a low end projection in a wave year, additionally, because the “national climate” influences fundraising, voter enthusiasm, retirements, and recruitment.

  36. Elizabeth is looking into whether the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, Cate, can assume legal guardianship over their two youngest children, Jack and Emma
    ———-
Elizabeth might have a lot of reasons she doesn’t want her young children to be brought up in the home of John’s mistress (if they move in together) after Elizabeth dies. She might know of all is other dirty little secrets and her children being raised by the two people that have destroyed her marriage might be too much. Not sure how much the children see their dad now, but if he wanted dual custody with her their older daughter, that might satisfy Elizabeth?
The courts may not rule in her favor, but it is understandable how much she would want to keep her children out of this situation.

Better the older daughter raises the children and John goes to prison.

A Florida beach might get hit with oil from the Deepwater Horizon accident for the first time Wednesday as sheen likely caused by the accident was reported less than 10 miles off Pensacola Beach.

A charter boat captain reported the oil Tuesday afternoon and state and local environmental officials confirmed that it was about 9.5 miles offshore. Winds are forecast to blow from the south and west, pushing the outer edges of massive slick from the spill closer to western Panhandle beaches.

Emergency crews began Tuesday scouring the beaches for oil and shoring up miles of boom. Escambia County will use it to block oil from reaching inland waterways, but plans to leave beaches unprotected because they are too difficult to protect and easier to clean up.

  41. Clinton Urges Israel to Make ‘Credible’ Investigation into Flotilla Deaths

White House Suggests Israel May Want International Help in Probe

By SARA SORCHER and KIRIT RADIA
    JERUSALEM June 1, 2010—

The Obama administration said today it supports an Israeli investigation into the violence on board a ship carrying aid to Gaza that left nine people dead, but urged it be “prompt, impartial, credible, and transparent.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the probe could include international participation to ensure its credibility.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs echoed Clinton, telling a news conference, “We are open to ways to assure a credible investigation, including international participation.”

The measured but firm language came a day after a bloody confrontation in which Israeli commandos rappelled onto six ships carrying activists and supplies tried to break Israel’s isolation of the embattled Gaza enclave.

The incident triggered fierce international outrage. Egypt, which enforces the blockade along its border, essentially broke with Israel today and temporarily opened its main crossing into Gaza.

And the organizers of the Freedom Flotilla announced today that two more ships would be sent to challenge Israel’s stranglehold around Gaza.

Israel said 37 activists who were aboard the ships were hospitalized, including four who were in serious condition. Many of the activists, including at least four of the dead, were from Turkey.

Clinton today held a pre-scheduled meeting with the Turkish foreign minister that lasted over twice as long as expected. The minister ignored questions from reporters after the meeting, but said earlier in the day Turkey wanted the U.S. to issue a stronger condemnation of the attack.

At a press conference later in the day Clinton made no such condemnation, but urged both sides to be careful not to further enflame tensions.

“We support in the strongest terms the Security Council’s call for a prompt, impartial, credible, and transparent investigation… We are open to different ways of assuring a credible investigation, including international participation,” she said.

Clinton in her statements added, “The situation in Gaza is unsustainable and unacceptable. Israel’s legitimate security needs must be met just as the Palestinians’ legitimate needs for sustained humanitarian assistance and regular access for reconstruction materials must also be assured.”

  42. Again with the “kiss and make up” garbage. Hillary is working night and day. God only knows what the idiot potus has been doing.

Source: Hillary asking foreign leaders to `dial down’ criticism of Israel

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been privately asking foreign leaders to “dial down” criticism of Israel until all the facts of the flotilla attack are known, according to a source who personally discussed the matter with her.

“She says she’s been working the phones for last 24 hours trying to get people to cool off a little bit, to see what the facts are,” the source tells me, adding that she said she was trying to “dial down some of the rhetoric of the international community.”

“It’s difficult,” the source adds. “She says people are furious.”

Such calls are not unexpected, but they provide a glimpse into how awkward a position the U.S. knows it’s in now that global criticism of Israel’s attack is mounting, since it’s coming at a moment when the Obama administration was hoping to do a “kiss and make up” session with Netanyahu.

Also: The calls are a sign that the administration may be directly helping Israel by trying to lend a hand damping down the global outcry.

Where is Moon when we need him? He could clarify the Turkey piece of this. My recollection from a year ago perhaps was that Turkey, which was a Muslim country with a secular type government but the then newly elected leader was more more religious than secular. If that is the case, that could compound the difficulty. Let us hope we have a good Ambassador to Turkey, someone Hillary wanted as opposed to an Obama contributor who needed to be paid off with an ambassadorship, which would be about his speed. One thing I do know. Nobody wants a war with Turkey. Nobody.

Their soldiers where part of the UN force under MacArthur’s (later Ridgeway’s) command when the Chicoms invaded Korea and a number of Turks were captured. The prison conditions were brutal. I have a friend who was an American paratrooper and won two silver stars in that conflict. His story is similar in some ways to the character in Eastwood’s movie. His platoon was captured, he was tortured and so were many other Americans. He has two missing fingers which he will not talk about. The only group of soldiers the Chicons could never break were the Turks. Adul Abulbu Emir.

  44. JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel and Egypt signaled a temporary easing of the Gaza Strip blockade Tuesday following harsh international condemnation of the deadly Israeli raid on an aid flotilla en route to the sealed-off Palestinian territory.

Egypt said it was freely opening its border with Gaza for the first time in more than a year to allow in humanitarian aid, setting off a mad rush to the crossing by thousands of residents, while an Israeli official said there is an “ongoing dialogue” with the international community on how to expand the amount of goods entering the area.

That is the best way to de-fuse this situation.

Impartial and independent and confidential until final results released.

When I think of Sweden working its way into a state of high dugeon over this incident I realize that they have not fought a war for two centuries so maybe they do not remember what war is like.

And then I think of something Orsen Wells said about another country like that–Switzerland:

“They have been a peaceful nation for 500 years, and what do they have to show for it? The cuckoo clock.

  46. The spill’s arrival coincides with the beginning of the Panhandle’s summer tourism season, which normally brings millions of dollars to the region.
    ———————————
This is one that good old Tar Balls Obama can handle.

Having previously assured tourists to come to Louisiana because only three beaches are affected, the appearance of oil on the beaches of Florida requires an amended response.

Tarballs can tell tourists not to worry about black sand beaches in Florida. After all, they have had them for centuries in Hawaii, on the Kona Coast of the Big Island and nobody worries.

If the press asks him about the dead animals he can smile at the camera, wave and say any further questions on this subject will be handled by my press secretary, the estimable Robert “I know naaawwwwhing” Gibbs.

  47. If the Republicans were smart (now there is a quantum leap for you) they would have one of their 527s do a split screen video of Gibbs and Sgt Schultz.

Gibbs would be in the press room with a picture of Obama on the wall. Schultz would be in Stalag 13 with a picture of the other Fuhrer on the wall.

Gibbs would give an evasive answer which amounts to I don’t know and then Schultz would scream I-know-Nawthing! Then Gibbs would give another variation on his previous answer and Schultz would repeat I-know-Nawthing!

Five examples would be more than enough.

The last frames would show Gibbs saying:

If you have ever wondered why I know nothing.\

The reason is I work for a man knows “Nawthing”!

  48. HOW TO CONFRONT A BOT AT A COCKTAIL PARTY (IF YOU MUST)

Q-1: I see you have 10 Obama for president bumper stickers on your car, and a bunting sign which some might mistake for a hazard to navigation which says proud of my president. Would I be correct in assuming that you are an Obama supporter?

A-1: Isn’t everybody. I mean when he enters the room I just flutter. Like a butterfly caught in the shudder.

Q-2: Amazing. But tell me this: have you ever at any time had any misgivings about him or his policies. Ever?

A-2. No. Not once. Not never.

Q-3. How about when he cut a sweetheart deal with big pharma to deny consumers cheap Canadian drugs.

A-3: He was doing what was best.

Q-4: How about when he hung out in a golf cart in Hawaii when the Detroit Bomber attempted to do his dirty deed?

A-4: Oh I have no problem with that. I am sure he can run the country from there. After all he is a messiah.

Q-5: How about when he refused an offer by the Emirates to send tankers to the gulf to mitigate the disaster?

A-5: What me worry? They have black sand beaches on the island of Hawaii. This is a racist smear if you ask me.

  49. The reason why the above line of questioning can be effective is because bots do not have a balanced view of their hero. They are a cult, and as such will tend to deny that they ever had misgivings about him. To acknowledge having misgivings would be tantamount to heresy within the cult. And once they have denied having any misgivings, you can ask them a series of questions featuring examples of what he had done (or failed to do) which would cause a rational human being to have misgivings. At that point you have established by inference that they are either a fool or a liar.

  50. At that point, their most likely path of retreat will be to blame Bush for the problem. Whereupon you smile and shake your head, and ask them for today’s date. And then ask them whether they know that Bush is no longer president. If they blame the Republicans you can ask them whether they know he has a control of congress, and a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. In other words, the problems we are facing today are his doing, as much as anyone else’s.

  51. I haven’t been able to keep up with the Israel crisis. I just heard a portion of Hillary’s speech about it…did she support Israel???

About the Author: Katie Stanton serves as a Senior Advisor in the Secretary’s Office of Innovation.

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to accompany Secretary Clinton on her trip to Asia, along with over 200 American government officials. According to the Secretary, this may be the largest U.S. delegation ever to attend a meeting anywhere in the world.

First, we touched down in Tokyo, where Secretary Clinton met with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada and Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama. Second, we headed to Shanghai for my favorite portions of the trip, the 2010 Shanghai Expo and soup dumplings. While at the Expo, the Secretary visited the U.S. and Chinese Pavilions, delivered remarks at the carbon-neutral USA Pavilion and met with U.S. Student Ambassadors.

After visiting Shanghai, we traveled to Beijing for the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the People-to-People Exchange. At the Dialogue, Secretary Clinton, U.S. Treasury Secretary Geithner, and key leaders from both delegations exchanged ideas about challenges facing both of our countries. U.S. Ambassador to China Huntsman described the Dialogue as a great success.

At the People-to-People Exchange, Secretary Clinton and Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong focused on expanding citizens’ engagement between our countries. This initiative will bring our countries closer together and advance vital educational exchanges between our countries. Following the signing of the Exchange, we witnessed a spectacular production put on by young students from both China and the United States.

While in Beijing, I also had the chance to catch up with staff at the U.S. Embassy and other State Department colleagues who worked on the Secretary’s trip. From the policy makers, to the Marines protecting the embassy, to the Public Affairs Officers using social media to engage with communities online and offline, I was impressed and proud to see the great work our colleagues are doing overseas.

The last stop of the trip was in Seoul, South Korea, where the Secretary discussed important regional matters with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan. This was an important visit given the recent situation in the Korean Peninsula, and Secretary Clinton told President Lee that the United State would stand beside South Korea.

Overall, it was an incredible, exciting journey, and I am still in awe of how the Secretary is able to travel these distances on a routine basis.

while POTUS Playboy destroys our country. He has set us back (black and White) 100 years.Meanwhile our real Leader works 24/7.

  53. Yippers ABM90, King Obama plays while Hillary works her butt off, thank goodness this country has Hillary Clinton.

King Obama is entertaining Paul McCartney and the Jonas Brothers tonight at the WH…hmm, hmm while Rome burns and war is threatened. OMG, he needs to do what the Japanese leader did…resign…he is woefully inadequate to handle all these things at once.

  54. Admin, your assertion that the fictional Rhett Butler and the real Kennedy were aware of the dangers of bootlegging is probably true, but it should also be remembered that:

    1) bootleggers are heroes to those who benefit from their trade. Rhett was given a hero’s welcome at the ball in Atlanta where he met Scarlett for the second time. The flotilla dead are martyrs to the Palestinian cause.

    2) the ‘activists’ aboard the flotilla were also aware of the dangers of running the blockade, as the woman you quote (video) said, “There are two happy outcomes: Martyrdom or reaching Gaza.”

    3) the Israelis should realize, and perhaps they do now, that enforcing a blockade is also dangerous. People armed with bludgeons and knives, the force of their own arms and legs, and the muslim horror of dishonorable life, especially their own, can be very dangerous indeed. ‘Activists’ who are actually willing to die for their cause are not afraid of paint bullets or real bullets.

    4) the blockade is itself an act of war, as it was in the case of the blockade that Rhett Butler successfully ran. The same blockade is applied to the West Bank (where Hamas is also present), except that the West Bank is not bordered by the sea. Israel is thus in a de facto state of war with all Palestinians, and should not be surprised, indeed should be ready, for some resistance and fighting back.

    5) Israel can only claim that some dangerous items were aboard the flotilla – dangerous things like cement – which could be used to build bunkers, by golly, a defensive device! – and pasta (yes, pasta is not allowed into Gaza either, though I can’t figure that one out). Along with the cement go things like reinforcement bars, or rebar, which is even more dangerous than cement, because it can be cut up and used as clubs!

    6) the Kennedy fortune that was built out of bootlegging stopped growing any more (in that particular way) once Prohibition was repealed. The same goes for Rhett Butler’s fortune: once the war was over and there was no more blockade, Scarlett began making her own little fortune with a perfectly legal and lucrative lumber business. The US (in its blockade of Cuba) and Israel, with its puritan blockade of the Palestinians, have lessons they themselves can learn from previous imposers of blockades.

So now we have the US SoS calling for a “careful” response to the flotilla attack, and asking Israel (not the international community) to conduct an investigation into what went on. That is indeed a careful response.

All the fuss seems to be about the 9 people killed. This is typical of the Christian response to events. We Christians get so upset when somebody gets killed. I can tell you for certain that that is not at all the case for muslims. I have known (for a significant amount of time) only 8 muslims in my life, including only 1 woman, but they all have told me that they essential of being a muslim is to submit to Allah’s will so that, once their time of travail and temptation on this earth is over, they will go to heaven. Life to a muslim is just that: getting through it with honor and following the path that Allah has cut out for them.

So, there will be no mourning over the 9 dead. Any tears shed for them will be tears of joy, like at a traditional black southern funeral. Then they will be buried and the time will come for the next martyrs, perhaps in the immediate family, to step up to the plate.

(This is not my own personal view of life and death, which is: the dead from any calamity are gone, just bury them and take care of the wounded and the family members of those involved. I consider that a reality-based approach to life and death.)

I like to think that Hillary is aware of this muslim attitude toward life and death when she calls for a “careful” response. I like to think that, as a Methodist with strong faith herself, and with strong views on such matters as abortion and the death penalty, she has bothered to look into this basic difference between the Christian and Muslim universes.

In any case, by asking Israel alone to conduct an investigation, she is definitely asking one side in the war to be thorough and fair. A little like asking the Yankees to be fair to Rhett or the FBI to Black Jack, if they had caught either of them red-handed.

  55. blowme0bama: “Surprise! Gaza flotilla group included al qaeda and mooooslim brotherhood members”

What’s the surprise? What does that change? There were also European lawmakers and a Nobel peace laureat among the passengers.

The important thing for those who resisted the boarding of the flotilla, and for their backers, is that they made Israel pay a price to enforce the blockade. You can be sure they have no regrets at all, and don’t care if the dead or survivors are Al Qaeda or the Muslim Brothers.

  56. Obama needs to put a muzzle on this idiot…she is on drugs…she has to be!
    —————————–
What you see as incoherent babbling just happens to be Pelosi’s greatest speech.

    Everything is relative.

The only reason I can think of why she would be babbling about “The Word” is because she believes with Obama at the helm (or rather in steerage while big media lies and tells us he is at the helm) is because she knows these are the end times and he is the Anti-Christ as some have suggested. Until now I wasn’t sure.

  57. When the US drones killed 27 innocent afghans attedning a wedding, the UN did not call for an emergency session to condem said act and or ask for an Independent investgation(see also sinking of S. Korean ship). This is typical hate Israel first, disregard the facts, and further embolden Iran and others to become even more belicose towards the Jewish state.

  58. Feel the LOVE?

Elected officials say no thanks to Obama invite

    June 2, 2010

Congressmen Jason Altmire and Tim Murphy have previous engagements. Sen. Bob Casey Jr. and Rep. Mike Doyle are out of town on anniversary trips with their wives. Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato will be campaigning in Philadelphia.

When President Obama and Sen. Arlen Specter land at Pittsburgh International Airport today, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will receive them by himself.

The rest of the region’s top elected officials declined White House invitations to attend Obama’s speech at Carnegie Mellon University this afternoon, their offices said.

The White House billed Obama’s speech as a follow-up to his economic address at Georgetown University on April 14, 2009, less than two months after he signed the $787 billion stimulus bill. In it, he spoke of laying “a new foundation for growth and prosperity — a foundation that will move us from an era of borrow-and-spend to one where we save and invest.”

Obama’s last trip to Pittsburgh was Sept. 24 and 25, when the city hosted the Group of 20 economic summit. He was in town 10 days before that to deliver the keynote address at the AFL-CIO convention. During both of those trips, elected officials didn’t greet him at the airport — as Ravenstahl will — but met up with him later, snagging a slice of the ever-present media spotlight on the country’s chief executive.

“It’s peculiar, to say the least,” Gerald Shuster, professor of political communication at the University of Pittsburgh, said about elected officials declining such invitations.

    […]

“More than 150 people are coming,” Mullen said. “It’s been advertised for weeks.” (150 confirmed? for a presidential visit? He had better bring Michelle and the kids in case no one wants to sit at his table for dinner.)

Obama lost Altmire’s district to Arizona Sen. John McCain by 10 percentage points in 2008. Altmire voted against administration priorities such as climate change and health care legislation, citing the wishes of constituents.

Onorato’s Philadelphia event was scheduled “for quite some time” before the White House announced the president’s visit Friday, spokesman Brian Herman said.

    […]

“I planned this getaway with my wife months ago to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary,” Doyle said via e-mail from his undisclosed location. “If I’d canceled it, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be celebrating our 36th anniversary next year.” (…yawn)

No, of course not, because the US has veto power at the Security Council and Afghanistan is a nobody. Same goes for Israel, who enjoys the US veto at the UN, as against the Palestinians, who don’t even have a state to send an ambassador to the UN.

Obama wanted to be a transformative president and now the presidency is transforming him.

His battle against water is taking on Biblical — even Job-like — proportions.

    and then…

Besides the roiling water below, the skies opened from above and gusting, lightning-streaked rains drowned the president’s plans to give a Memorial Day speech at the Lincoln cemetery near Chicago. On the evening news, pictures of the president standing under an umbrella shooing people off the soggy field were a sad contrast to the wildly sentimental Joe Biden presiding, hand on heart, over a sunny and moving Memorial Day commemoration at Arlington National Cemetery.

    …and then…

This president has made it clear that he’s not comfortable outside whatever domain he’s defined. But unless he wants his story to be marred by a pattern of passivity, detachment, acquiescence and compromise, he’d better seize control of the story line of his White House years. Rod Blagojevich trial rattles insiders

By JONATHAN ALLEN | 6/2/10 5:15 AM EDT

The corruption trial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has some of D.C.’s biggest names bracing for fallout.

The corruption trial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is already shaping up to be a political circus, promising to lay bare the underbelly of Chicago politics.

But while the stakes are clear for Blagojevich — he could be the fourth Illinois governor in 40 years to retire to a federal prison — some of the most powerful Washington insiders are braced for potential political damage from the trial, which begins Thursday.

President Barack Obama, White House aides Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) all have at least some interest in the outcome, according to documents produced by prosecutors, defense lawyers and the White House counsel. Blagojevich has been charged with engaging in state-level kickback schemes, but Washington is much more focused on allegations he tried to sell Obama’s old Senate seat.

None of these Washington insiders have been accused of wrongdoing. But their names are sure to come up in testimony.

“It’s like a soap opera,” said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.). “Everyone will be watching it.”

Here’s a cheat sheet on those who may face some political exposure.

    President Barack Obama

    article continues…

    etc, etc, etc….

  62. The US veto is no longer a given for Israel. In fact, the US went along with the NPT despite it’s focus on Israel’s nuclear arsenal.( unlike Iran, Israel has never threatened to wipe a country off the face of the map ).
While Bush may have been Israel’s closest friend in recent memory, Obama, one must concede, is equally biased in favor of the Arabs/Muslims. There was never a better chance for the Arabs/Muslims to achieve peace , if they really wanted it, than under this administration. From Jones to advisers like Carter, Powers, and Brzezinski , this is a very hostile /anti-Israeli -pro Arab administration. Yet, the PA still refuses to directly negotiate with Israel even though Obama has threatened to not use the US’s veto power if Israel takes provacative steps that supposedly would threaten the proximity talks (i.e. annoncing new housing in East Jerusaelm).

  63. Back in the office today, we all toasted Israel. That tiny tiger of a democracy, plagued by big bullies, showed the world once again that they will take no shit from anyone.
And score another round of disgust for the damned militant Muslims. “Peace Flotilla,” that’s a real low in hypocrisy.
And while we’re loathing, let’s hear a hiss for the Turks, those lying demons of Armenian genocide, who haven’t an honest leg to stand on in any issue till they own up to their own history and their present political duplicity.
You don’t have to be Jewish to see who the lowlife sneaks are and who the hero is.
One more time: Let’s hear it for Israel!
And now to the Blago trial – let us pray the tentacles choke the Fraud who stole the Oval Office.

  64. Question: is Barack Obama merely a fool? Or is he not in fact a puppet?

In a court of law, it is generally easier to prove that an adverse witness is simply mistaken that to prove that he or she is lying. Likewise, it is easier to prove that Obama is a fool, than to prove that he is a puppet. But the distinction is vitally important to understand.

If you assume that Obama is merely a fool, then they cannot call you a conspiracy nut. In that sense it is the safe position to take. However, you must then be prepared to answer the following question: how could a man with no prior experience be catapulted into the most important job in the world and why did the systems that should have prevented that from occurring fail to prevent it? And who controls those systems? The following quote is germane.

On the other hand, if you assume that Obama is a puppet, then there is alot of objective evidence to support you. And the thrust of that evidence is that he was installed in high office by the elites who manipulated the political process and controlled the message well enough to trick the electorate into believing that he was their man, when the evidence was all to the contrary. That position implicates the electorate as much as the elites. And it suggests that when he is gone they will find another to replace him, so their game goes on.

In that case, the following quote is even more germane:

    ———————————————————————————————————————–

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.”

“The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

I think those questions and similar explanations for Obama’s behavior ie. inexperienced, incompetent, socialist, etc. are the result of “normal” people trying to explain the behavior of a sociopath. His greatest pleasure is kicking his most groveling, sycophants in the teeth at every opportunity. He is no more pro-Arab, pro-corporate, pro-socialist, pro-anything other than being pro-Obama. In Obama’s psyche who is using and who is being used is irrelevant. He is always the user and everyone else is the sucker. He is the perfect politician, he is a-political and amoral.

  68. Shv, it’s why all con artists elicit such strong opinions. The believers truly believe, the clear-eyed are amazed anyone is fooled, the confused try to figure things out with logic but they are doomed to failure.

Obama is an opportunist who cares only for himself. He happened to align himself with “leftists” primarily because they saw a black man as someone they could use and he was willing to be used if he advanced himself. Conservatives also occasionally helped him out because they thought he was not as bad as the “leftists” when it came to conservative interests. Obama advanced by scamming everyone, left and right and center, but he is in it only for himself.

  69. http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/06/02/israel.palestinians.aid/

Israel has attempted to deliver humanitarian aid from an international flotilla to Gaza, but Hamas — which controls the territory — has refused to accept the cargo, the Israel Defense Forces said Wednesday.

Palestinian sources said trucks that arrived from Israel at the Rafah terminal at the Israel-Gaza border were barred from delivering the aid over protests that members of the flotilla were not delivering the materials.

Israel had 20 trucks of aid found on the ships, such as expired medications, clothing, blankets, some medical equipment and toys.

Nine people died on Monday when Israel intercepted an aid vessel bound for Gaza.

Under Israeli policy, humanitarian aid must come through Israel and be checked by Israeli authorities who are looking to intercept smuggled weapons bound for militants aiming to attack Israel.

As part of this policy Israel forbids ships from dropping off goods at Gaza ports and works to thwart smuggling via tunnels between Gaza and Egypt.

  70. Michael Goodwin echoes us today:

    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/anti_israel_sharks_sniff_weakness_n5AbqK6bk6NHcy6qEWK5jJ#ixzz0phPKSy8o

The president’s appeasement policies helped to create the incident. Israel took the bait, but the trap was set in Washington.

Weakness always begets aggression, and, like clockwork, Obama’s repeated signals that he is weakening America’s commitment to Israel are emboldening the Jewish state’s enemies. From Syria to Iran to Lebanon, from Hezbollah to Hamas and the PLO, the wolves smell blood and are trying to gauge whether they can get close enough for the kill.

And whether the United States will stop them. That they even dare hope we won’t reflects the danger of Obama’s demented decisions.

The huge flotilla is the latest example of the open-season mania, with the result that Israel is under international siege — for defending itself. And, not incidentally, for defending an embargo on Gaza that Washington supports.

  71. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gulf_oil_spill

As the crude crept closer to Florida, the risky effort to contain the nation’s worst oil spill hit a snag Wednesday when a diamond-edged saw became stuck in a thick pipe on a blown-out well at the bottom of the Gulf.

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said the goal was to free the saw and finish the cut later in the day. This is the latest attempt to contain — not plug — the gusher. The best chance at stopping the leak is a relief well, which is at least two months from completion.

“I don’t think the issue is whether or not we can make the second cut. It’s about how fine we can make it, how smooth we can make it,” Allen said.

If the cut is not as smooth as engineers would like, they would be forced to put a looser fitting cap on top of the oil spewing out. This cut-and-cap effort could temporarily increase the flow of oil by as much as 20 percent, though Allen said officials wouldn’t know whether that had happened until the cut could be completed.

Engineers may have to bring in a second saw awaiting on a boat, but it was not immediately clear how long that could delay the operation. Live video of the saw showed oil spitting out of the new cut, and crews were shooting chemicals to try to disperse the crude. The cap could be placed over the spill as early as Wednesday.

A more concise analysis, as usual. Reading “political analysis” of Obama’s behavior reminds me of the story of the “Blind man and the Elephant”.

I don’t see Obama’s position on Israel as any different than his signing a exec. order limiting reproductive rights for women. Abortion rights groups were for Obama; 76% of American Jews voted for Obama, both get kicked in the teeth.

Yes, I agree- applied standard logic by normal thinking people to Obama’s sociopathic personality does nothing but bring us to a dead end. However, it should be noted that as his problems mount, growing at an astounding rate into catastropic life threatening proportions, he seems befreft of any advise from the ‘loyals’ who catapulted him to the presidency. Has Obama really burned all his bridges because when push came to shove, he couldn’t produce what he was commissioned to do in exchange for all the pomp and circumstance that comes with sitting high and mighty in the Oval office.

The most recent failure… just the other day, Obama sent Geithner to Germany to derail the German finance minister’s plan for attaching stringent oversight regulation to derivatives. http://pumasunleashed.wordpress.com/

Previously, the embarrassing failure of The Copenhagen Climate Summit. (his failure to get Cap n’Trade done blew a gigantic hole in George Soros promised billions of dollars to his investors in the privileged set. Needless to say, the investors won’t be bothering any time soon listening to more of Soros perpetual get rich schemes.)

The only person left for advise that is still standing is Bill Clinton. However, as brilliant as Bill is… even he would need a miracle to stop the flow of oil is the gulf.

This may be the time for Obama to get down on his knees and pray. He screwed up royally only this time no one can fix his mistake.

  74. OOOOO, great article on how much everyone hates Obamacare:

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/obamacare-taking-on-water-95104599.html

    And here’s a sample:

As they followed one another off the political cliff in voting for the health-care overhaul, Democratic senators and representatives comforted themselves with their own self-created myth that, although ObamaCare was horribly unpopular as a bill, it would prove to be quite fetching as a law. Furthermore, this transformation, this change they could believe in, would take place sooner rather than later — as voters would reward rather than punish them for passing ObamaCare in clear and open defiance of popular will.

In the two months since, President Obama has pulled out all the stops, aggressively trying to sell the overhaul while also rolling out ostensibly popular provisions ahead of schedule. These provisions include a federal mandate that insurers cover all “children” up to the age of 26 on their mom’s and dad’s policies, with costs being borne through somewhat higher premiums for all families; and a tax credit for small businesses, but only — or at least mostly — for very small businesses (those with nine or fewer workers) with very low-paid full-time employees (those averaging less than $25,000 in annual income).

Unfortunately (from the perspective of ObamaCare supporters), a steady stream of revelations of previously undiscovered horrors buried in the bowels of ObamaCare appears to have more than negated any gains that the administration might otherwise have made.

  75. Obama is neither a fool nor a puppet. He is a man who works aggressively on behalf of the interests he has chosen to align himself with. His actions serve his private interests. It’s that simple.

And remember, the same people that elected Obama elected George Bush. When all is said and done, Obama has not failed as spectacularly as Bush did. He’s a damned lousy president but we’ve had worse.

  76. I thought Bush was bad until I looked at Obama. Obama is unquestionably the worstl PoS, now SACKoS President I’ve known in my adult lifetime. And that includes some real jackasses like Reagan, Carter, and Bush 1.

——– wooooooh there nellie, the Democrats that voted for Obama in the General election did not vote for George Bush.

You might be talking about Independents, I don’t know, but you sure are not talking about the long term Democrats in my world.

  78. SHV …THE SHV? The Dr?

By the way ABM90, I may have written it too late for you to see in the previous post, but I want to thank you for all that you sacrificed for America as a young man in WW2. A true American HERO.

  79. Does anyone know if the Blago trial is going to be televised, or at least give us video clips?

I have my popcorn ready and I hope Blago causes a domino effect to the corrupt Chicago machine leading all the way to the Oval Office.

    Go Blago, go!!!!

  80. Shadowfax,

Mostly, I meant Americans. Americans were stupid enough to elect George Bush, so it can’t be a surprise that they elected Obama. Both candidates did well, IIRC, with college educated white men – so there is that as well.

    ————-
One thing that would change how American’s vote would be if politicians were held to telling the truth. Double speak, lies, pay to play and bs is partly why some are elected. (Yea, I know…this will never happen)

Then white men, (and half white men like Barry) do feel they have the right to be elected while women like Hillary are trashed just because of her gender.

Hopefully all the polls showing Hillary’s approval ratings are well above any other politician now, may be a good sign that the public is waking up. Then again, I am sure if Hillary tossed her hat in the ring, the Republican’s would go after her with gusto, using her gender against her, but really because they really fear her breaking the glass ceiling and changing the hierarchy.

  84. basement,

Makes sense if you mean that the media elected both Bush and Obama, with I presume the same big money donors behind them. Donors whom he seems to be serving faithfully.

Dunno how many voters actually changed sides from 2000/2004. Obama did get out the black and graveyard votes and get them counted, and suppress or non-count the Reagan/Hillary votes.

  85. Obama Chief of Staff Emanuel Subpoenaed For Blago Trial
-By Warner Todd Huston Publius Forum on 06.02.10 at 1:58 PM
It has been confirmed that Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s chief of staff, has been subpoenaed by Rod Blagojevich’s defense team in his upcoming trial the Sun-Times is reporting.
Blago defense team Shelly Sorosky told the Times, “Yes, he’s been subpoenaed by the defense,” and went on to call Emanuel a “critical witness.”
Sorosky said there are two areas of interest involving Emanuel: the alleged attempted extortion of Emanuel by then-Gov. Blagojevich and the U.S. senate seat selection concerning now-White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.
According to Sorosky, the blago team has subpoenaed a whole retinue of Washington types for just-in-case needs. Already they’ve subpoenaed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.
Former Governor Blagojevich is under indictment for attempting to sell Barack Obama’s vacated illinois Senate seat.
The trial is now empanelling the jurors and the trial will soon be under way.

  86. HOW TO TALK TO A BOT AT A COCKTAIL PARTY (IF YOU MUST)—-REVISED

Q-1: I SEE YOU HAVE 10 OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT BUMPER STICKERS ON YOUR BMW, AND A BUNTING SIGN DRAPED OVER YOUR WINDSHIELD THAT COMES PERILOUSLY CLOSE TO A HAZARD TO NAVIGATION?

A-1: Yes! (while grinning maniacally from ear to ear)

Q-2: WOULD IT BE FAIR TO SAY THAT YOU ARE AN OBAMA SUPPORTER?

A-2: Absolutely. HE is The One!

Q-3: WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU DO PERSONALLY TO GET MR OBAMA ELECTED?

A-3: I did everything they asked me to do and more. I contributed money, I blogged, I text messaged, I marched, I rallied, I planted signs, I made speeches, organized flash mobs and for good measure, I even trashed the home of a McCain supporter.

Q-4: AMAZING. WOULD IT BE FAIR TO SAY THAT YOU ARE ONE OF HIS MOST ARDENT SUPPORTERS?

A-4: I am proud to say that I have been accused of that, yes.

Q-5: AND YOU PERSONALLY CONVINCED OTHERS TO BECOME OBAMA SUPPORTERS AND TO VOTE FOR HIM AS WELL?

A-5: Yes of course. I am computer savvy. I convinced thousands of them–family, friends and strangers alike. They listen to me because I am politically savvy.

Q-6: DID YOU EVER AT ANY TIME HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT HIS POLITICAL JUDGMENT AND/OR APTITUDE FOR LEADERSHIP?

A-6: Absolutely not! HE is The Messiah. To doubt HIM is heresy.

Q-7: OH, HE IS SOMEBODY’S MESSIAH ALRIGHT. BUT WHAT IS IT ABOUT HIM THAT MAKES YOU SO SURE THAT HE IS “YOUR” MESSSIAH?

A-7: Oh everything about him. How can I explain it to a heretic like you? I just know I trust him, and I have turned my life over to him as a matter of faith.

Q-8. THEN I TAKE IT YOU WERE PLEASED WHEN HE A CUT SECRET DEAL WITH BIG PHARMA TO DENY SENIORS COST EFFECTIVE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FROM CANADA?

A-8: I am politically astute. I knew what others did not which was that had to do that in order pass universal health insurance. I am surprised that you even ask.

Q-9: DID IT BOTHER YOU WHEN HE HUNG OUT IN A GOLF CART IN HAWAII WHILE HIS ATTORNEY GENERAL WAS BUSY MIRANDIZING THE DTW BOMBER?

A-9: Not in the least. HE is the Messiah. HE can run the world from the back of a golf cart, through the marvels of modern technology. Or he can do it through telepathy.

Q-10: WERE YOU TROUBLED BY HIS REFUSAL TO ACCEPT AN OFFER BY THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES TO SEND TANKERS TO THE GULF TO PREVENT A LARGER ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER?

A-10: Of course not. They have black sand beaches on the island of Hawaii. Nobody worries about that. The only reason they make an issue of it now is we have a black president, and the tea parties, right wingers and the media outlets we do not have under our control yet want to make him look bad. They are all racists, every last one of them.

    (NO FURTHER QUESTIONS)

(Tactical Considerations: the reason why this line of questioning can be both productive is because bots do not have a balanced view of their hero. They are a cult, and as such will tend to deny that they ever had misgivings about him. And the more you get them to expound on their role in getting him elected, the harder is it for them to acknowledge they had any misgivings, because if they acknowledged misgivings that would mean they misled others.

Once they have denied having any misgivings about Obama’s political judgment or his aptitude for leadership, you can ask them a fast series of questions about what he has done (or failed to do) in crisis situations which would cause a rational human being to have significant misgivings about him. At that point, you have established by inference that the bot you are taking to is either a fool, a liar or both.

Faced with this dilemma, their most likely path of retreat will be to blame Bush for the problem. In that case, you smile, and ask them for today’s date. They will think you are changing the subject. And then ask them whether they realize that Bush is no longer president. If they blame the Republicans for standing in his way you can ask them whether they know he has a control of congress, and a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. In other words, Obama is responsible for what is occurring now)

  87. The below post by Ace really makes one think. It’s something occasionally I do think about, the depopulation of Europe of Europeans and re population by Muslims. I believe Japan is having a depopulation problem also. Hence the eventual control of the world by Muslims by population means. Not hard to do when you keep half your population in servitude, uneducated, making 10-16 babies. In a way, it is what is facing America with the Hispanic population. It takes to the third generation typically to equal that of the present “American” model of 2.4 children. Regardless, Muslims are the fastest growing population in the world, and they aren’t slowing down.
    ******************

Item: Israel’s strategy is backfiring, because no matter what the rightness of its cause — or, frankly, let’s not talk about rightness per se, because this is a matter of simple primal survival; when you’re talking about pure survival, “rightness” and other moral concerns hardly enter into it — Israel becomes more isolated every day by a Europe which wants to forget why, precisely, it should be the case tha so many formerly European Jews are now in the State of Israel (hint: 1938-1945), and looks every day for new ways to condemn Israel and thwart its mission of mere survival. And the American President, which mistakes “European” for “sophistication of thought,” of course echoes his cousins across the Atlantic.

Item: Italy now pursuing social con reproductive policy through libertarian-friendly means, offering women 4500 Euros to not abort their babies but proceed, as is becoming increasingly rare in Europe, to a live birth. Russia has been attempting the much the same thing for some time now. Video report on Russia’s experiment in reversing its trend towards depopulation here.

All these are linked by the same fact: Most nations of the West will be extinct within 50-75 years, for all intents and purposes, as the nations we now know die off due to lack of procreation and Muslims from the Middle East and Asia make up the difference, and then some.

Europe — and Israel, to some extent, too — is pursing an accommodationist strategy with what will be, to a mathematical certainty, the ruling population of Europe in 50 years time; what we call “Europeans” today will rely upon the Europeans of tomorrow to treat them fairly and civilly, and not, say, modify the criminal code in practice to permit the raping of Old European girls by New European gangs.

Or to, say, continue paying pensions, health benefits, and other “to grave” sorts of benefits to its graying, dying, and now alien, indigenous population.

Europe, like Israel, is pursing a strategy of simple survival, hoping that some accommodation shown now to its future masters will buy some reciprocal kindness, or at least civility, for its future slaves.

And, as in Israel’s case, “rightness” is hardly a factor at all when you’re talking about survival.

Whether Europe’s gamble will work, I don’t know; it’s possible that the egregious barbarity of expansionist Islam will ameliorate in the next several decades; the beastly behavior of much of that population may be caused, in part, by a sense of being victims and thus (as the West reinforces their beliefs on this score) that all sorts of hellish behavior are justified when one speaks of “victims;” but, perhaps, in the future, with the confidence that they now will, as Mohammad promised, inherit the whole earth (or at least the majority of the earth, bracketed on one end by India and on the other by California), those tendencies will be eclipsed by a more charitable and ethical code.

Civilization is usually only had by those who can afford civilization, those who have had enough material success to be able to afford charity, those whose confidence in their own future safety and survival is high enough to afford mercy and empathy. A distressingly large fraction of the Muslim world seems to lack this now; but it just might be the case that when Islam is obviously triumphant, civilization will grow as it usually does among those who can afford it.

(George W. Bush and Dick Cheney had something like this in mind for Iraq– forcing a better path for the Islamic world, one that might be imposed initially by force of arms but would later be emulated by free will because it simply works like hell; whether this expensive experiment in reforming Islam through a “Plymouth: Iraq” strategy will bear fruit, or enough fruit, or will bear fruit soon enough, is anyone’s guess.)

On the other hand, human beings are not known for the kindnesses they demonstrate towards “The Other.” And it is plain that Islam considers Europe to be very much “The Other.” And I don’t have great hopes that something so central to Islam’s conception of itself will give way to a more civilized ethic.

I never write about this, because accusations of “racism” inevitably follow any discussion of demographic destiny; but mostly because it’s so horribly depressing. If you believe Mark Steyn, and I tend to do so, barring some truly massive change in demographic destiny then the world as we know is doomed, to a mathematical certitude, and what battles we fight now are will almost certainly be regarded later as trivial episodes in the much larger and longer view of Islam’s demographic energy, and the West’s demographic exhaustion.

Anytime I think like this I can only think of Vonnegut’s repetitive sigh in Slaugher-House Five: “And so it goes. And so it goes. And so it goes.”
