Terror On The Left

We Democrats were rightly outraged by the massive intelligence failure which culminated in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. President Bill Clinton prepared a ‘watch out for Bin Laden and terrorism’ memorandum for George W. Bush before leaving office. George W. had been president for eight months when the attacks took place. But George W. Bush was on V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N.

Barack H. Obama was on a two week V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N when a terrorist attacked. That terrorist attack has caused havoc and new restrictions on travelers. But from Dimocrats we do not hear outrage at the stumbling, bumbling failures. We hear silly excuses designed to protect Barack Obama.

Dimocrats and Obama enablers are attempting to minimize the terrorist attack in Detroit on Christmas Day. These Dimocrats and Big Media Obama protectors are calling the terrorist attack the “undie” bomber in order to make light of what might have been. What might have been is that on a day of great importance to Christians a Muslim terrorist sought to kill hundreds of people, if not thousands, by having an airplane crash into Detroit.

George W. Bush presided over a massive intelligence failure eight months after his inauguration. Barack H. Obama presided over a massive intelligence failure eleven months after his inauguration. We excoriated George W. Bush for his bungling and lack of preparedness. Barack H. Obama deserves to be equally excoriated – if not more so.

Where was Obama?
Obama was on Vacation. When Obama finally emerged it was to issue, with a yawn, excuses and feigned upset. Obama then went back to the golf course.

We Democrats excoriated George W. Bush for what happened on September 11, 2001. We were right to do so. Compared to George W. Bush, Barack H. Obama is even more culpable. George W. Bush ridiculously claimed he was taken by surprise by the 9/11 attacks. That there was a memorandum on his desk directly stating that Bin Laden was preparing attacks inside the United States made the excuse extra-ridiculous.

George W. Bush could claim however that there were bureaucratic obstacles which prevented preventing the attacks. That excuse too would have been ridiculous, but at least it would have the benefit of highlighting the lack of coordination and officials in charge of coordination. Barack H. Obama does not have that excuse.

George W. Bush created the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in order to coordinate intelligence information between agencies. That office has existed for years and Obama has been in charge of it for 11 months. Obama must be held to account. Janet Napolitano, the inexperienced on national security boob Obama has appointed to run the obnoxiously named Department of Homeland Security, must be held to account.

PINOs, Dimocrats, and Obama thugs are doing their best to protect Obama the boob.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s father had courageously contacted the American Embassy in Abuja in November and met the CIA station chief to tell him that his son was involved with fundamentalist elements in Yemen. American intelligence had also intercepted discussions in Yemen about a possible attack by “the Nigerian”.

The Obama administration knew most, if not all, of this by last Sunday, 48 hours after the attack was thwarted. But the priority in Obamaland was to play things down and take pot shots at the Bush administration.

Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security chief – who prefers the term “man-caused disasters” to “terrorism” – blithely stated that there was “no indication that it is part of anything larger”. She then insisted that the “system is working”.

Although Napolitano has taken a lot of flak for these comic utterances, she was not “misspeaking” but trotting out the agreed talking points of the day.

Robert Gibbs, Obama’s chief mouthpiece, also stated that “in many ways this system has worked” and would say nothing about a possible wider plot.

Vacationing in Hawaii, Obama thugs tried to link the “winding down” war in Iraq with “foiled” terrorist attacks. Somehow, these Obama boobs fail to recognize that the Detroit attack has sown chaos and new regulations and restrictions which amount to a successful attack – not as successful as the terrorists wished, but successful nevertheless in circumventing security, loading explosives on board an aircraft, and if not for a Christmas miracle, a fireball aircraft crashing into an American city on Christmas Day (causing terror and further havoc throughout New Year’s Day).

Obama and his thugs and incompetents must be held to account:

Meanwhile, the White House was working overtime to build a case against Bush. A source in the White House counsel’s office told The American Spectator of memos frantically seeking information that would “show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could”.

Republicans smell blood. There is a pattern in the Obama administration of dismissing Islamist terrorist attacks as regrettable random acts. In his radio address after Major Nidal Hassan’s slaughtered 13 at Fort Hood, Texas, Obama made no mention of terrorism or militant Islam, instead blandly promising that the “ongoing investigation into this terrible tragedy” would “look at the motives of the alleged gunman”.

Hassan was a committed Islamist who had corresponded with the fanatical Yemeni imam Anwar al-Awlaki. In June, Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, a Muslim convert being watched by the FBI and who had previously travelled to Yemen, murdered a US Army recruit in Arkansas. That rated only a tepid statement by Obama about a “senseless act of violence”.

Tepid Obama statements delivered with a yawn and sleepy eyes enable terrorists and terrorism. The terror attacks continue to turn the United States into an armed camp of security roadblocks and bureaucratic searches of persons and personal possessions and Dimocrats continue to protect Obama. Americans can see that the terrorist plots are working and breaking through security while Americans must endure more and more searches and security blocks. Dimocrats remain silent to these outrages or continue to protect Obama.

But the violence wasn’t senseless, it had a calculated objective – just as Abdulmutallab was not, as Obama described him, an “isolated extremist”. No wonder many Americans want to grab Obama by the lapels and scream: “It’s the Jihad, stupid.” Dick Cheney, the former vice-president, clearly struck a nerve when he charged last week that Obama was “trying to pretend we are not at war”.

The White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer eagerly descended into the political fray, responding to Cheney with the obligatory jibe about Iraq and also a litany of examples of Obama’s “public statements that explicitly state we are at war”.

It’s a sure sign that you’re losing the argument when you have to research quotes from your boss’s speeches to prove that he gets it that America is at war. The problem for Obama is that people are now judging him by his actions as well as his words.

Even Marty Peretz, who trys to make light of the terrorist attack by calling it the “skivvies terrorist” knows something is very wrong:

Joe Klein, who spent a lot of print trying more or less to exonerate Dr. Major Nidal Malik Hasan by dint of his being a nutcase, has been curiously silent about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. In fact, there’s been a certain shyness among the whole left-wing blogosphere (and among Democrats, generally) about the skivvies terrorist. There is no place for these journalists to hide and no logic, however dubious, with which they can transfer the guilt to us. And, believe me, if they can’t invent this, there is nothing to invent—nothing.

The fact is that the only personage of note to call Abdulmutallab an “isolated extremist,” which is the closest thing to a solitary crank, was the president himself. And he said it when he already knew that American intelligence, in several of its iterations, had long ago been informed that the would-be bomber had been connected to Al Qaeda in Yemen.

Republicans are denouncing George W. Bush for releasing prisoners from Gitmo to Yemen. They are right to do so. Peretz notes that Dimocrats are the ones acting irresponsibly and blindly:

Moreover, the Republicans and the right-wing opinion centers are, of course, riveted on the president’s instinctive detoxification of what was intended as a faithful act of Islam. They are milking it for what it’s worth. But the Democrats and the vast liberal opinion industry are simply ignoring what is, frankly, an historically naïve and dangerous bewitchment. They do this at their peril.

What is the peril and why must Obama be held to account?

I believe that it is Obama’s perception of Abdulmutallab as an “isolated extremist” that is the real source of the intelligence calamity so dramatically revealed in this case.

Peretz trys to protect Obama a bit by dragging Bush and Bill Clinton into the failure. But that is nonsense. The problem is Obama:

But what the president has done is to wrap the Islamic orbit in a sweetly scented cashmere afghan (if you’ll permit this ironic choice of words) that disguises the reality of the real Islam of this world. Obama has done this grandly several times, most especially with his addresses in Istanbul and Cairo, but also in his more quotidian remarks. The failure of the CIA and the other alphabet agencies to connect the dots is a methodological failure. The president’s failure to grasp the realities is an ideological and psychological failure. In a top-down structure, the top always has the advantage.

It is a thorny matter to design grand tactics for both the world as it is and the world as Obama imagines it. Yes, the president’s representatives and, to some extent, he himself are now talking factual essentials. Already during the campaign, he liquidated the war on terrorism. It was not apt. It was diversionary. And, oh, what a relief this was to his ecstatic crowds.

Peretz is beginning to tip toe into the waters we stirred in our article Barack Obama Is Not Qualified To Be President. Barack H. Obama is not qualified to be president because his worldview is either based on lies he perpetuates or is based on hallucinations he injects:

The president’s cool cannot change that. All that he can do, if that is what he wants, is to divert America’s attention from a massacre culture. But it is not likely to work. The economic imbroglio may allow him to divert us a little longer from this historic crossroads. There is also just a chance that he’ll realize he was wrong and admit it to the great public. I’m not sure I’d bet on that. In any case, the American people see the facts and they will be fooled no longer. It’s ironic that a terrorist assault that had no victims has clarified the truth of our circumstances.

The terror on the Left is that Americans will blame Barack H. Obama and Dimocrats in the same way, for the same reasons, we blamed George W. Bush and the Republicans. George W. Bush did successfully manage the 9/11 attacks and the aftermath. That will likely not be the case for Obama and his Dimocrats. Bob Schieffer of CBS News discusses why the spin won’t work this time:

Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano is getting hammered because her first response to the “Undie-bomber” fiasco was that “the system worked.”

We shouldn’t have been surprised. Sure, she looks a little silly now that the facts are dribbling out. But she was just following the modern bipartisan, public relations template in this age of information management.

First, play down the problem. Second, emphasize what did not go wrong, assure us that those in charge are “investigating,” and most important; emphasize no one in any position of responsibility is at fault. [snip]

When government officials insult us with spin, they are doing it on our dime, which is supposed to be used to operate the government, not to hold news conferences to tell us what a fine job people on the public payroll are doing.

As we learned during Katrina, self-serving spin at the first sign of crisis does not help the situation; it makes it worse, because it makes it harder to believe anything the government says.

Real security is built on trust in the government. That requires truth, which should be the beginning of government presentations, not the fallback position.

The terror on the Left is that Americans are discovering that Obama can’t be trusted. We wrote a long time ago that: We do not trust Obama to run a 7-11 store, let alone a 9-11 type emergency.

The terror on the Left is that Americans agree with us that:

Obama simply cannot be trusted. Obama cannot be trusted on any issue. Obama cannot be trusted by his friends. Obama cannot be trusted by his enemies. Obama cannot be trusted.

  1. Admin: brilliant essay. We are at a tipping point. The big media propagandists do not understand this. It is all summed up in one principal well known to successful lawyers–never defend an indefensible position. Also, I am very impressed with the courage and insight of CBS and Bob Schieffer as to why this time campaign spin is not only futile but counter-producive. Let me reiterate what you quoted because it bears repeating:

“When government officials insult us with spin, they are doing it on our dime, which is supposed to be used to operate the government, not to hold news conferences to tell us what a fine job people on the public payroll are doing.

You may have heard recently about the Somali man who broke into Durch cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard, to kill him for his depiction of Mohammad in one of his cartoons. Fortunately, he was arrested, and is being charged with attempted murder.

What you may NOT have heard was the connection between this same man and Hillary Clinton:
The Politiken newspaper reported Sunday that Danish intelligence knew the 28-year-old Somali man was held in Kenya in September for allegedly plotting an attack against U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said he was later released due to lack of evidence.

But Denmark’s ambassador to Kenya, Bo Jensen, told the news agency Ritzau the man was arrested in Kenya for incomplete travel documents. He said Kenyan authorities never told the embassy he was suspected in any terror plot.

I don’t remember hearing word ONE about an attempted assassination on Secretary Clinton’s life. It wasn’t all that recent, either. It was on August 5th of 2009. If you do a search, the first date you’ll find for any mention of this attempt (or at least the first one I found) was from September 8th, 2009. In a blog, I might add, but even it backed off from the assertion:

A plot by al Qaeda-linked Islamist militants to bomb the hotel where Secretary Clinton was staying during her visit to Nairobi, Kenya, last month (shown above) was foiled at the last minute, The Australian reports. Very scary.

[Update (Sept. 10): This story might not be true — see stacyx’s comment below. FP regrets any error; at the time of posting, the story seemed credible.]

    Here is “Stacyx’s” comment:

I covered this story on my blog and was initially concerned that there was no MSM coverage. Then I spoke to someone at ABC news and they said the reason the US and British media were not covering the alleged terror plot story was because all their inside sources said there was no truth to the story.

Except there was some truth to it, apparently, and the newssource that claimed otherwise, was, well, lying. What a big surprise. And what a HUGE surprise that the US and British MSM didn’t bother to cover this story.

We find out a full five months after the fact only because one of the Al Qaeda members who tried to blow our Secretary of State to smithereens in Nairobi, was caught in another country trying to kill someone else.

Holy freakin’ cow. (Clinton in Nairobi, AFP photo)

Not for nothing, but someone else almost died because the authorities did not pass along the information about this terrorist and his attempts.

Not to be a complete and total cynic about this, but I cannot help but wonder why the media decided this was not newsworthy. I have my suspicions, including that Obama’s poll numbers were already tanking then, and Clinton’s were rising. Take a look at Obama’s numbers in August:

Or could it be that if we were told about this attempt on Secretary Clinton’s life by an Al Qaeda operative, Obama would have to admit that there were actually honest-to-goodness terrorists out there, trying to do us harm? That attempted terrorist attacks were not attempted “man-made disasters“?

Uh, yeah. There is that. And then there is the total incompetence of our media, or the attempt to cover up by the media, either one of which is completely unacceptable.

And to think, we found out about this attempt on our beloved Hillary Clinton’s life because of an attempt on a cartoonist. Feel free to craft the next line to THAT set-up…

  3. i’m not defending GWB, but what do you think W’s reaction would have been if someone tried to take-out condi rice?

    BO is a sleaze.

  4. Wbboei, LOL!! I got you going didn’t I. I am laughing up a storm. WHo the hell knows how this bastard gotin, but whoever helped needs to be put in Guantanomo with the rest of the terrorists. LOL!!

  5. Did anyone notice how Hillary’s press statements are so Presidential? She said something like we are looking to see if we need to upgrade the system. She did not blame Bush or anyone. That’s a President. Who ever is advising Obama to send out statements like a 5th grader might say needs to STFU.

The left got him in and now they will have to live with their mistake and everyday it seems that he rubs their noses in it.

  6. alcina, you are right, I haven’t heard crap about the plot to assasinate Hillary. When she broke her elbow nothing was stated either until people started asking why the WH hadn’t released a statement.

  7. Obamacare Countdown: Senate Bill Could Hit Middle Class Hard

    FOXNews.com

The Senate health care bill could end up hitting middle-class workers hard, through a new tax on insurance plans that could ultimately cut through to their wages.

This is the first part of a five-part series on health care reform. Watch “Special Report With Bret Baier” every day this week at 6 p.m. ET for the latest installment in the series.

The Senate health care bill could end up hitting middle-class workers hard, through a new tax on insurance plans that could ultimately cut through to their wages.

Both the House and Senate packages will have to be aligned and passed again in both chambers of Congress before a final bill makes its way to President Obama’s desk. Both bills raise money for the sweeping overhaul of America’s health insurance system by cutting about a half-trillion dollars from Medicare and raising lots of new revenue.

The House bill raises it by imposing a 5.4 percent surtax on people making $500,000 a year or more — a strictly money-raising move with no impact on health care itself. But the Senate bill raises the biggest chunk of its new revenue through a 40 percent tax on so-called Cadillac health insurance plans — plans that cost more than $23,000 per family.

And that tax, critics say, will trigger a series of changes that will result in billions of dollars in new taxes on the middle class over the next decade.

First, the tax will hit plans widely used by middle-class employees. The majority of workers with the high-value plans are union members and state government employees who are not considered wealthy, even though Obama advisers like to say the tax is aimed at benefits enjoyed by the likes of Wall Street bankers.

“A lot of those folks that have Cadillac plans have Chevy wages. And that’s what makes it, has made it, somewhat controversial and a real issue of contention,” said Jim Kessler, vice president for policy with the non-profit think tank Third Way.

Second, some say the tax will make many of the high-value plans too expensive and slowly cause them to disappear — since employers could wind up cutting back on benefits they offer to avoid any passed-on price increase.

Third, as those union members and other workers lose their health benefits, which are not taxable, the Senate assumes the lost benefits will be replaced by wages, which are taxable.

Christina Romer, chairwoman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, referred to this scenario during a speech in October, saying workers could end up with more “take-home wages” that are taxed.

“A smaller fraction of your compensation takes the form of health insurance — you actually see it in your pocket in terms of wages. Of course when you get things in your pocket in terms of wages, you pay taxes on them,” Romer said.

In fact, the Senate is counting on raising $120 billion in new taxes over the next 10 years, the majority of which will come from the middle class. Another $30 billion is expected to roll in from the actual tax on insurance plans, but far more comes from wages.

“This is a big tax on the middle class,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, former director of the Congressional Budget Office, noting that 95 percent of people with the so-called Cadillac plans make under $250,000.

Stewart Acuff, with the Utility Workers Union of America, said the House financing plan is actually “much fairer” since it taps money from the wealthy.

“They got a $2.5 trillion tax cut from President Bush, and asking them to give a little of that back to provide one of the most necessary things in a democracy, which is health care for our people … is the fairer way to go,” he said.

Acuff noted that Obama campaigned against the idea of a tax on insurance plans when Sen. John McCain, his Republican rival, talked about it during the presidential campaign in 2008.

But Obama has since embraced a tax on the insurance plans themselves, and unions are urging Congress and the White House to reconsider.

Fox News’ Jim Angle contributed to this report.

  8. When we get these great statements from Hillary like “Yemen terrorism is a global threat”, we know those are her words not the words of a speech writer.

Obama has NO ideas on his own, he must wait for the little piece of paper that tells him what he is to say. That’s why Hillary’s are always on target and his aren’t.

  9. Just read over at Hot Air that Hawaii wants to rename a park, an elementary school and a high school after Barack Obama. They want to name August 4 (BO’s birthday) as a state holiday and name January 20th when he was “cornated” as Barack Obama Day hereafter.

It still amazes me that a man…who was apparently not that great of a community organizer went on to the Illinois State Senate and did NOTHING, then went to the US Senate and did NOTHING and became president and has done NOTHING except help to run our economy into the ground and go on apology tours and vacation, vacation, vacation…
can pile up awards and honors.

  10. Southern: there is no limit to their delusion. They had better act quickly because if they wait much longer his approval rating will be in the toilet.

  11. Obama has NO ideas on his own, he must wait for the little piece of paper that tells him what he is to say. That’s why Hillary’s are always on target and his aren’t.

Actually, he does. He told a golf magazine twelve days ago I could not break 100. Now I am shooting in the low to mid 90s. My golf instructor tells me that there is not limit to how good I will be as long as I devote enough time, concentration and money to the cause. And just when you thought my life couldnt get better, I understand that they will be naming the latrine in the mens locker room after me. I will be present to give the dedication speech of course.

  13. Barack Obama: A President That Wasn’t

    Monday, January 4th

Hillary Clinton once said, during her run for President against her current boss, that the Presidency was no place for on the job training. She said she would be ready to lead from day one and that she would know what to do when that 3 am call came to the White House. Whether or not true of Hillary, we have learned these last 12 months that it is certainly not true of Barack Obama; Obama was NOT ready to lead from day one and he has failed to lead ever since. His own 3 am calls are going straight to voice mail (he’s out shooting hoops you see, or working on that birdie putt on Maui) and his on the job training continues with very little acquired knowledge to actually show for the troubles he has caused Americans.

Today’s entry in the “Epic Fail Diaries of Barack Obama” leads us to consider Al Qaeda in Yemen. The Al Qaeda he is sending 30,000 American troops to fight against in Afghanistan is the very same Al Qaeda he promises to inflict justice on in Detroit and ALSO just happens to be the Al Qaeda he means to tuck tail and run from in Yemen. And, to give AQ the leg up they need in the propaganda war, he (along with a host of other countries that have vowed to “disrupt, dismantle, and defeat” them) has now closed America’s shining beacon of freedom out of fear that some bad guys might do a bad thing to us there… the very same place he keeps insisting on sending GITMO terrorists to. Yes, Al Qaeda terrorists.

    Not what I call Presidential.

With so many failures – be they derived from inaction or ambivalence – Obama is creating for himself the least “presidential” legacy of any President in recent memory. His won’t be borne of health care, or saving the planet, or bailing out (and taking over) the private sector. It won’t even be found in immigration reform or jobs “created or saved.”

    It will be George Bush.

Most of his campaign promises, and much of his agenda since being elected, have been based on a commitment to being “un-Bush” whenever, wherever, and however possible. From economics to war, Obama has built a Presidency based on undermining and undoing as much of his predecessor’s work as possible and blaming all the world’s troubles on former President Bush under the auspices of bringing the American people hope and change (as if the 8 previous years in America were fraught with hopelessness and stagnation). In promising to end a war in Iraq because the enemy is (and always was) in Afghanistan, Obama assured us that the fight is with Al Qaeda, yet he has done nothing more than capitulate America’s strength and position around the world to those very same people who have worked diligently over the past 8 years to kill us.

    Very un-Bush of him.

George W. Bush’s predecessor gave us the new and improved Somalia. Ronald Reagan’s predecessor gave us the new and improved Iran. And now, Obama means to give us some twisted new version of Yemen we can’t even fully comprehend yet. With any luck, Obama’s replacement will have the means and national will to undo Obama’s damage before it can’t be undone.

If nothing else, there will be no arguing that Barack Obama is NO George W. Bush.

  14. Rush Limbaugh stuck his republican foot in his mouth again. When leaving the hospital in Hawaii, he said we had the best healthcare in American and there was no reason to change it.

It just so happens that Hawaii mandates all of the employers to have health insurance on their employees and are made to pick out of a handfull of plans. The hospitals are also unionized. So the nurses there have a union to protect their rights. hmm, hmmm, he is trying to wiggle out of this statement now.

  15. Apparently this will be the coldest winter in the last 25years. So I guess God is trying to tell us that the crap and tax is no good. He is trying to show these loons the truth.

  16. Wbboei (10:06) Finally an award that is befitting BO’s ability and

Now that makes sense to me.

  17. Witches are commonly thought to be female, but in fact the term is gender neutral. Five male witches were hung at the Salem witch trials, so there is precedent for my remarks. Therefore, I feel that I can make this statement about Pelosi with no fear of reprisal: a gold plated broomstick would be cheaper. (Okay, lets not try for 6)

Pelosi is Queen and she lives in a $25 million dollar home. And the Queen has a new jet which is blue and white with United States of America printed on the fusilodge. (She has asked that the Obama logo be put on the tail, but that has yet to be done. Needless to say she is livid. Hard to get good servants these days.

This is QUEEN PELOSI’S NEW JET!!! And the Democrats talk about Sarah’s
    > dresses???
    > Queen Pelosi wasn’t happy with the small USAF C-20B jet, Gulfstream III that
    > comes with the Speaker’s job … OH NO! Queen Pelosi was aggravated that this
    > little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat, 200-seat, USAF
    > C-32, Boeing 757 jet that could get her back to California without stopping!
    > I understand that a former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, flew
    > commercial most of the time.
    > Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed
    > everyone of what Queen Nancy’s Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American
    > tax payers, literally thousands of gallons of fuel every week.
    > Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she
    > flies home to California every Friday and returns every Monday, at a cost to
    > the taxpayers (YOU and ME are those taxpayers!) of about $60,000, one way!
    > As Joe put it ….”Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday
    > night and that costs us another $60,000!” Taxpayers, that is $480,000 per
    > month and that is an annual cost to us of $5,760,000!!!
    > No wonder she complains about the cost of this war …. it might cramp her
    > style and she is styling on my back and yours. I think of the military
    > families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most
    > do-nothing Congress in the history of our country, keeps fueling that jet
    > while doing nothing.
    > Queen Pelosi wants you and me to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants us
    > to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our
    > tires. Who do these people think they are??? Their motto is … Don’t do as I
    > do … JUST DO AS I SAY!
    > If you think this is outrageous, forward it to all those on your email list!
    > Keep in mind the figures above do NOT include the cost of plane or crew …
    > just the fuel!!! One has to wonder what the total package costs us?
    > And on top of that … now she wants to tax our IRA’s & 401K’s!

  20. admin: I do so appreciate this post, particularly to know that Bob Schieffer is talking the tough talk. (He’s had a TV ad for maybe a year, in which he promotes himself as asking the tough questions. My silent reply has been “Yeah; right.”) Now he has broken the mold he held for so long. May those remaining loyalists take note.

wbboei: what do the simple folk do?

I love all the music from Camelot. This song has been floating in my mind for weeks. If the meaning of ‘simple’ had not morphed so from the time it was penned until now, I’d be using these words in my activism efforts. Perhaps I should a cue from you, and realize that it is effective as is.

  21. Do we need to help her on this? Does She deserves our help for the support she gave Hillary? Seems like Obama’s lot aint happy with the support she gave Hillary in the primaries.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6798759.html

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who has represented Houston’s 18th Congressional District since 1994, found out Monday that she will not be going back to Washington without a fight. Houston City Councilman Jarvis Johnson took the oath of office for his third term Monday morning and then went to Harris County Democratic Party headquarters, where he filed to challenge the eight-term congresswoman in the March 2 Democratic primary.

A challenge to Jackson Lee was not unexpected. Her steadfast support of then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton during the 2008 presidential campaign irked supporters of Barack Obama in her district and almost guaranteed that she would attract an opponent.

Johnson, 38, is a Houston native who began his community involvement as the director of a youth center in District B, which he has represented on the Council since 2005. He easily won re-election last November. “We’re going to have a frank discussion on who’s capable of bringing and creating good-paying jobs for the people of the district,” Johnson said in a statement Monday. “It’s a democracy,” he told bloggers in an interview at Harris County Democratic headquarters Monday. “It makes incumbents stronger to have an opponent.”

Jackson Lee, a Queens, N.Y., native who practiced law in Houston, served as a municipal judge and won two terms as an at-large member of the council.

In 1994, she ran for Congress and defeated the well-known incumbent, Craig Washington. She won the primary and has been re-elected easily since.

While acknowledging that she was a supporter of Clinton in the presidential primary, Jackson Lee said she vigorously campaigned for Obama in the general election — including stumping for him in battleground states like Ohio.

Lee said she is basing her re-election bid on her record of service .

“I fight for jobs and have literally brought in funding to help create jobs in this community,” she said, pointing to $5 million in funding from the most recent defense spending bill for projects in Houston.

She had little to say about her primary challengers.

“I respect every one of my opponents. I know they will be putting forward their message. My message is one of results,” she said Monday.

The 18th Congressional District includes Houston’s downtown and predominantly African-American and Latino neighborhoods immediately south of Loop 610. It is one of the most heavily Democratic districts in Texas.

Anybody who challenges Jackson Lee faces “an uphill battle,” said lawyer and local political observer Adrian Patterson. “For the people who represent the largest voting bloc in that district (African American women), her presence and her activism will resonate.”

  22. mop, I wonder who sent this guy to challenge Sheila Jackson Lee?? It may nothing to do with Hillary. People are waking up to the fact that no one has a JOB. Obama is a DUD!

  23. If the meaning of ’simple’ had not morphed so from the time it was penned until now, I’d be using these words in my activism effort
    ———————————
Quite so, holdthemaccountable. The term “simple” requires a definition: “Simple”, as used herein shall be construed to mean anyone who lives within in their means, knows that all glory is fleeting, and does not harbor delusions of grandeur. Anyone who cares about the fate of the middle class and does not live in a $25 million dollar mansion, commute across country in a Boeing 757 at a cost of 6 million per year to taxpayers, and works three days per week but still manages to tank the country. In sum, anyone but Pelosi, and the people who do her bidding at the expense of this country.

By any standard of morality and decency, Nancy Pelosi is a bad person. As I have mentioned before, a friend of mine who is a maritime arbitrator was close to Jimmy Herman who was head of the Longshoremans Union in the 1960s after Harry Bridges. Herman was a charismatic figure and was very high on Pelosi. My friend went to lunch with the two of them on a number of occasions. He felt at the time she was saccharine and phony as hell. But he never would have guessed that she would turn into the Marie Antoinette figure we see today. Worse than any Speaker I have seen in my lifetime.

  24. Aside from Camelot and My Fair Lady, there was Gigi. I’m Glad I’m Not Young Anymore really nails it, and the only one who did it justice was Maurice Chevalier. Porter was great with lyrics. But the best of all for me was Richard Rogers, and he was best when he was working with Lornez Hart, as in Pal Joey. There are about twenty verses to Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered and it you hear them all you find they are increasingly risque. If you can find a piano bar and hang around there long enough you will hear all of them by closing time. Geniuses. Whereas in politics we get pelosis.

  25. wbboei, I just that Pelosi jet email out to all my friends and made a comment to be sure and send it to all the democrats they know. Those people need to wake the F&*k UP! Excuse me for being so crude this early but it really irritates me she is spending so much money flying herself back and forth to California. We had no money to build a pavilillion for the World’s Fair in Singapore this year. I would rather us build that pavilillion than have to look at that lying two-face beoch everyday on the news.

  26. Wboei, I can only wonder what her salary is on top of all that and she probably has healthcare thru the govt for her whole family too. I love making sure Ms. Nancy flies around in all her glory and I the taxpayer can’t even afford to go to the Dr.

    ————————————-
Connie: its premature to go after them. Wait and see if Hillary gets drafted. Then I will join you in dumping on the status quo Republicans. I have done a little of that already with McConnell. But at this point it is counterproductive. The only one it helps is Obama. And that is the last thing in the world we want to do.

  28. That is good Connie. That email is going viral. If I were on the other side, she would be the poster child of a big spending congress. People may not understand the difference between a ten billion and a hundred billion, but they do understand someone who commutes to work in a 757 at a cost of $5 million per year to taxpayers–in tough economic times that will resonate. It is mindless for Pelosi to do that but her arrogance is such that she does not realize it. She is too busy telling herself that she is two heartbeats from the Presidency, other ceos have perks like this and all the other lies people in her position tell themselves on why it is right to waste taxpayer money. The problem is it turns her into a joke and undermines whatever moral legitimacy she thinks she has. If all she had to worry about was her district it would not matter. The limosene liberals she relies on there do not bat and eye. But now she supposedly represents the entire county, and 20% of them are out of work. Jimmy Walker was mayor of New York in the roaring twenties, he lived a champaign kind of life, but tough economic times hit, he was gone, and an understated politician named Fiolella La Guardia–the little flower replaced him.

  29. Wboei, I can only wonder what her salary is on top of all that and she probably has healthcare thru the govt for her whole family too. I love making sure Ms. Nancy flies around in all her glory and I the taxpayer can’t even afford to go to the Dr.
    —————————–
She would do much better in a feudalistic society. Perhaps that is why she is working so hard to eliminate the middle class and thereby create a have and have not country. A bad person by any definition of the term.

  30. Clinton: Iran Showing ‘Mounting Signs of Ruthless Repression’

    Jan 5/10

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Iran is showing “mounting signs of ruthless repression” in its treatment of opposition activists.

Clinton says Iran’s violent crackdown on opposition protests last month, and the arrests of leading reformists are deeply disturbing. She was speaking Monday at a Washington news conference.

Iranian security forces cracked down on major anti-government protests in several cities on December 27, arresting more than 500 demonstrators. Eight people were killed in the unrest. Since then, authorities have detained at least 20 high-profile opposition figures.

Iran’s Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi says those arrested include foreign nationals suspected of “pursuing psychological warfare.” He
said the foreigners were carrying cameras and other equipment. Their nationalities were not disclosed.

Iran’s government has repeatedly accused Western media and governments of fomenting the unrest. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, said Tuesday the detained foreigners will be set free if investigators find them not guilty.

  31. Wbboei @ 9:51, Agreed!! We need to get the imposter out and take Pooplosi with him. Gee, I think I remember Sarah selling her big red jet on ebay. Now there’s the difference!! We need to amplify than one. THe clothes are great for comparison, but the sale of her personal Governor’s jet is priceless in comparison to Nancy’s wings. I bet she has a crew on standby to fly it.

Why in the world doesn’t she just get a house in D.C. like most of the others, I’m they have one in her (our) price range of 25mil.

  32. Moon: lets see what the writer of that article says.

Joe–your hypothesis that sheila jackson lee is being challenged because she supported Hillary over Obama is being challenged on the blogs. Do you have any affirmative evidence to support it? I would assume that the general dissatisfaction with congress that makes all incumbents vulnerable has more to do with it. Have you looked at the Congressional approval ratings lately. Also, there is growing dissatisfaction with Obama in the African American community and youth, as they have come to see him as a shill for big business. Read the blog Firedog Lake and you will get a sense of it. I think you may be offering a false diagnoisis, unless you have some concrete basis for what you say. No need to respond. Just think about it. My sense is real change is coming, and not in the form Obama or his handlers anticipate.

    Best regards

  33. Johnson looking to unseat Jackson Lee in Congress

  34. Wbboei, I have been thinking about why she would rather fly home every week, the woman must think the hubby and the grown children need her presence every week to get their weekly “to-do list”. One of my daughters ex-mother-in-law’s (also named Nancy) had the same control problem as our Ms. Pelosi does.

Pelosi not only must control her own family, but she has the whole United States Congress to send a “to-do list” every week also. Ya think she a Narcissist, just like her boss??

  35. Iran’s Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi says those arrested include foreign nationals suspected of “pursuing psychological warfare.” He

    ——————————————————–
This is a CIA big media Soros operation. That much is certain. It is supposed to be bloodless. It works if the government gives up. It does not work when the government digs in the way Iran is doing. It worked in Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Georgia. It did not work in Russian and it did not work in The Cedars Revolution in Lebanon. It will be counterproductive and dangerous once Iran has nuclear weapons. Plus it will get alot of innocent people killed.

  36. Pelosi not only must control her own family, but she has the whole United States Congress to send a “to-do list” every week also. Ya think she a Narcissist, just like her boss??
    —————————————————-
Like Mommie Dearest perhaps? Her attempt at control is a disaster. She is no leader. Just a bureacrat run riot. She is detested by most people.

  37. wbboei, I think Soros and Zbig are in up to their necks in Iran. I wonder who they caught with cameras and such, I feel sorry for those that got caught. They are brave to bring light to that dark world over there.

You think its dangerous to do a regime change like this? I wouldn’t want all out war either, but those Mullahs need to go.

  38. Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security chief – who prefers the term “man-caused disasters” to “terrorism”…
    &&&&

If it were people who voted Obama into office, and people who twisted the election coverage, and people who intimidated and coerced others into voting for Obama, isn’t Obama a “man-caused disaster”???

  39. rgb44hrc, Your right Obama is a man-made disaster. Thankgoodness we have Hillary there. She is standing tall and doing whats right.

  40. Obama to meet with security team.

Obama: “What can we do to better protect me? If they tried that thing with Hillary, just think how much they’d like to get POTUS.”

  41. WHERE THEY ARE NOW?

One year ago, Richard Cohen of the WashPo was all atwitter at the possibilities of a new Hopey Changey POTUS.

What a difference a year (of incompetence) makes!

It’s nice to know with all those years of journalistic experience, these talking heads have 20/20 hindsight.

    Leader Without a Cause
    =====================

    By Richard Cohen
    January 5, 2010

Last month, no American soldiers were killed in Iraq. Last month, the unemployment rate dipped a bit, the stock market ended the year up, the financial system did not crater, Detroit’s Big Three began to get a pulse — and yet a consensus started to form that Barack Obama, who is either responsible for or merely presided over all this good stuff, is a failure.

What’s more, the consensus came supported by numbers. The polls, according to Rasmussen Reports, showed the president’s approval rating dropping two points in December while his disapproval rating gained a point. Obama began 2009 with 43 percent of Americans strongly approving of his performance and ended it with 26 percent feeling that way. Any way you measure the polls, Obama did not have a good year.

On the left, the president is being pummeled for health care legislation that does not include a public option and has not dispatched insurance executives to Guantanamo. On the right, he is being pummeled for socializing the economy, establishing death panels and allowing maniacal Nigerians to load their Calvins with boom-boom and fly into peaceful Detroit. It’s a cartoon.

In foreign policy, Obama has sorely disappointed his fans on the left for escalating the war in Afghanistan and on the right for not escalating it enough. Guantanamo, which he vowed to close, is still open. He supports gay rights, but don’t ask and don’t tell about “don’t ask, don’t tell.” He zigs, he zags. Change! Hope! But not much of the former and little of the latter.

To some, he’s weak on the environment. To others, he’s too strong on the environment. He is camouflaged in the incomprehensible, leaving no (carbon) footprint and quixotically tilting at energy-producing windmills. He confers too much with our allies, bows when he should shake and has not brought peace to the Middle East — as, you will remember, George W. Bush did.

Much of this critique is asinine. If the Republican Party had its way — and God sees to it that it doesn’t — the country would now have reverted to the barter system and the unemployment rate would be around 25 percent. The GOP economic program simply does not exist, and even Bush knew this. When push came to shove, he tossed his ideology overboard and used government money to bail out financial institutions.

Still, the reason the GOP criticisms have started to stick is that Obama can be made into anything his critics want. He is a lean man of ideological clay who has let others mold his image. His bottom line is forever on the move. It’s not that he’s not good or smart, it’s rather that in a political universe ruled by ideological yellers, he lacks both an ideology and the pipes.

The White House faces a major political problem. Obama’s first year was not a bad one — and yet he suffered. The coming year threatens to be much worse. Fatalities are going to increase in Afghanistan. Unemployment could fester. The debt is going to increase, and all over the country, state and municipal governments are going to go broke and look to Washington for help. The land will roil with anger and Mr. Cool in the White House is not up to FDR-like fireside chats. He was born to blog.

Journalists like to believe that if they are getting criticism from both sides of the story, they must be doing something right. This is not true for journalists — they may actually have gotten the story doubly wrong — and it is certainly not true for political figures. In Obama’s case, his misfortune is to be a leader without a cause.

He wanted a health care bill. Why? To cover the uncovered. Maybe. To rein in the insurance companies. Maybe. To lower costs. Maybe. What mattered most was getting a bill, any bill. This is not a cause. It’s a notch on a belt.

Obama could be a great president. He has already achieved much — possibly saving the country from financial ruin, salvaging the auto industry, getting some sort of health care reform. Possibly, possibly. Yet his numbers sink as his achievements rise. He is the Johnny Appleseed of cognitive dissonance, so utterly detached that when he wins it seems to be only for himself. Pollsters measure him but poets have described him. William Butler Yeats got it down years ago: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.”

  42. For those of you who have been asking, I called Mrs. Smith today to see how she was doing. I spoke to her mother and she is still in the hospital. Pneumonia has moved to the other lung, and they have changed the antibiotics. The dogs have been put in the kennel pending her return. Her mother says no news is good news. Just the same, I intend to keep her in my prayers.

  43. djia, Excellent video. Although I do think we have to defend ourselves, but fighting so that these fatcats can get richer is something altogether.

  44. Connie, it is ironic that Zbig would be formenting revolution inn Iran when he was the one who engineered the overthrow of the Shah and ushered in these fundamentalists in order to attack the soft underbelly of the old Soviet Union which he called the arc of instability when he was doing it. The man is Doctor Strangelove, and the soros of course is his longtime associate, even before they sat together at the Council of Foreign Relations. The problem is that 80% of the country has no clue who he is and more important what he does. I am sure he wants to keep it that way.

  45. “Obama’s first year was not a bad one — and yet he suffered.”

Obama’s first year was not bad, but he told us we could expect miracle. He stated he could lead from day one, and we have yet to see it.

How does not bad (and I quarrel with that) possible cut it, for a leader of the country that supposedly is one of the best in the world. We could have had exceptional.

Why is it people would choose a male over an over qualified female. She performed as SOS from day one, and she is being judge as exceptional, by the very people that thought he could hack it, and now they say he is not hacking it.

I agree, that author is still drinking the coolaid. He can no longer give the glowing pictures of OO, because he knows by the polls people are not buying it. He should go down with OO, as they all should

Glad I got that off my chest.

SL Jackson was caught on video tape at town hall meeting ignoring her constituent who was talking at the mike and answering a cell phone. They all need to go. We need to clean house.
I doubt a Repub could win that seat, but we need term limits. I don’t care @ this point who they supported, they are part of the problem and she votes lock step with the Dem’s.

  50. Obama’s first year was not a bad one
    ——————————–
What a supercilious jackass that guy is.

    Not bad?

He quadrupled the deficit, let our guard down on terrorism, dissed our allies, kissed the butt of our adversaries, weakened our currency, failed to address the jobs program, whittled down our sovereignty on international regulation, took over businesses, expanded the war in Afganistan, did a rezko health care deal, a crap and trade misama—and this LOON says the first year was not bad?

  51. Richard Cohen makes some valid points about Obama, specifically that he is a piece of clay who can be molded by others as they see fit, because he has no political philosophy of his own. The pregnant question however is who is doing the molding because sure as god made little green apples, it aint the American People. Moreover, when he hypothesizes that Obama may have saved the country from financial ruin he engages in magic thinking. You could argue just as easily that Bill Clinton saved the country from financial ruin since these were Summers and to a degree Geithner were Clinton people. The truth is that the country has been in the hands of wall street, they screwed up and Obama and his predecessor presented the bill for their shenanigans to the American People, and now they are making record profits. Thus where Obama and his Wall Street cronies are concerned the words of Boss Tweed the kingpin of Tammeny Hall are somehow apropos: “I seen me opportunities and I took em.”

    Didn’t Work Before…Didn’t Work After
    Joseph Ashby

CNN has posted a brief editorial from airline pilot Steve Danyluk, who was in the air after the underwear bomber attempted to bring down Flight 253. He writes in part:

Following the attempt to bomb a passenger jet on Christmas Day, President Obama said that “once the suspect attempted to take down Flight 253, it’s clear Homeland Security and Aviation Security took all appropriate actions.”

I am a commercial airline pilot who was deep over the Atlantic flying from St. Kitts and Nevis for nearly six hours on Christmas Day following the attempted bombing on Flight 253.

I only learned about the incident after landing when I looked at the CNN Web site on my iPhone. I’m justifiably furious that I was not notified while airborne.

Our government clearly dropped the ball.

Janet Napolitano (like Obama, as quoted above) claimed that the government successfully carried out emergency procedures after receiving news of the attempted bombing. While that “success” is little consolation to those wanting to stop terrorists from igniting explosives on airplanes in the first place, it turns out Napolitano didn’t even do what she claimed.

The Homeland Security chief told CNN that “all” flights in the air were notified to take special measures within “an hour to 90 minutes.” By Mr. Danyluk’s account, that did not happen.

In short, the system didn’t work leading up the attack and it didn’t work after the attack.

  53. I am sorry. I did not mean to call Cohen a loon. I did not see that he was the poster. Richard has his issues, and he is still as you say on hopium. But he tries more than many of his colleagues at WashPo to be honest. In this case he is simply mistaken. Also, his attitude that the only good Republican is a dead Republican is pretty biased.

  54. “I’m justifiably furious that I was not notified while airborne.”

    ——————-

I don’t blame him and I’m glad he came forward. Napolitano lied plain and simple and she is just very lucky that nothing worse happened.

  55. Journalists like to believe that if they are getting criticism from both sides of the story, they must be doing something right. This is not true for journalists — they may actually have gotten the story doubly wrong — and it is certainly not true for political figures. In Obama’s case, his misfortune is to be a leader without a cause.

  56. Great essay! Southern, amazing isn’t it? This is the man that the DNC just had to split the party over – an unready, undeserving, non-public servant with no record of excellence, competence, or demonstrated ability to deliver who only seems motivated by photo ops and meaningless pontificating. And what ever gave these fools confidence that Obama would ever go after Osama Bin Laden. Obama will continue to have an asterisk (*) in front of his title. Hillary will continue to direct traffic in international crisis.

  57. Gotta love me some Howard Dean — NOT! The number that has been robocalling my home phone for MONTHS now, 904-257-2258, apparently is Dean’s Dimocracy for America. My blood boiled everytime they called up to six times per day, and I was not going to give them the satisfaction of reaching a human. Today I relented and answered the phone. The caller asked for me by my first name and proceeded with the script something like this…we must defeat the ‘bad policies’ that were initiated BY THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION…
I interrupted, actually shouted would be a more appropriate word, her right then and there with: When is HE going to take responsibility? HE IS responsible for our economy AND for our SAFETY. And those of you who support and promote HIM are UNAMERICAN!!! After I demanded to be taken off all their call lists, she said she was doing that as we speak.

I have a question – how did Howard Dean, who I called “Howard the Coward”, when interviewed by the LA Times following the DC protest for FL votes to be counted. I have only ever campaigned for one Democrat and that was Hillary. How did Proxie President, Howard Dean, and other Dimocrats, get my numbers?

  58. Of coarse they feed the media with calling him a Socialist, Marxist and what not. Oh to fool the dumbed down masses must be great fun.

I suspect that’s right. They ran a phoney liberal and called him a socialist — so all the real socialists believed them and voted for him.

In fact, Obama has put young people further behind the eight ball than when he started. I am not talking about inches here, I mean light years. He is just a lying sack of sh. . . That is where Hillary would have been their answer to a better future and they got conned into supporting a wall street hack. The reason fire dog lake and kos are retreating is because they were conned and they led their legions down the primrose path and sooner of later the zombies will figure it out. In one sense this is the biggest lie ever told, and the joke is on them.

Yes. The corporations saw a parade, quickly put their own dummy in front of it to lead it into a blind alley.

  60. The point of increasing security in an airplane an hour before landing is this.

Apparently the Undiebomber wasn’t just trying to kill the 300+ passengers on the plane, but also to crash the plane while it was over Detroit, killing many on the ground as well.

  61. The ever manipulative CNN runs a poll to measure the popularity of obama, hillary and michelle(?).

To which I say why Michelle? She is not a politician, and all she has ever done is plant a garden?

If their goal is to diminish Hillary it will not work.

    Anyone can plant a garden.

Solving the world problems takes a world leader.

Hillary is a world leader. Michelle is out of her league.

  62. This may be too good to be true. Time will tell.
C-SPAN challenges Congress to open health talks to TV coverage

“President Obama, Senate and House leaders, many of your rank-and-file members, and the nation’s editorial pages have all talked about the value of transparent discussions on reforming the nation’s health care system. Now that the process moves to the critical stage of reconciliation between the chambers, we respectfully request that you allow the public full access, through television, to legislation that will affect the lives of every single American.”

Lamb said his network would use “the latest technology” to be “as unobtrusive as possible” during the talks.

  63. Re reported terrorist attacks on Hillary. I heard something about a failed attempt to blow up an airport when she visited an African country. Iirc they were having bomb attempts there all the time anyway.

The person who WOULD know, is Hillary. If she wanted publicity about it, she’d announce it or leak it.

  66. Clinton vows greater US commitment to Mideast peace process

    Tuesday, January 05, 2010

(WashingtonTV)—US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday that Washington would be “even more committed” in 2010 to resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Clinton told reporters at a joint news conference with visiting Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr al-Thani that there were “many complexities” to the situation, but stressed the Obama administration was committed to the resumption of peace talks between the two sides.

“We know that the Palestinians deserve a state to fulfill their aspirations. The Israelis deserve security to live peacefully side by side with their Palestinian neighbors,” she said.

“So we’re going to be even more committed this year, and we’re starting this new year with that level of commitment and we’re going to follow through and hopefully we can see this as a positive year in this long process,” she added.

Clinton also praised the “positive contribution” by Arab nations to the peace process.

Al-Thani, for his part, said that a unity government between rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas would greatly aid the peace process.

US President Barack Obama’s Middle East envoy, George Mitchell, is expected to return to the region next week, the Haaretz newspaper reported, citing an Israeli official in Washington.

  67. Clinton vows greater US commitment to Mideast peace process
    ——————
From what I am told, both sides have come to the conclusion that Obama cannot deliver and will be a one term president. Thus, they have decided to wait him out. The pledge of “greater” US commitment seems intended to quell those fears. Iran’s intransigence may push both parties closer together. If there is a bill to be paid, then Saudi Arabia should pay it. Their repressive regime has spawned terrorism as much as anyone else has.

  68. The launch of “Tavis Smiley Reports”

Jan. 5, 2010, 2 a.m. – Tavis Smiley and PBS will expand their relationship in 2010 with the January premiere of Tavis Smiley Reports, a series of four hour-long primetime specials that will air throughout 2010, according to a news release.

Smiley, who is a member of Black Talkers “Talented 10,” will leave his studio chair in Los Angeles and go on the road to examine some of the country’s defining moments through those who have helped to shape history — from going behind the scenes with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the streets of New Orleans with director Jonathan Demme to mark Hurricane Katrina’s 5th anniversary.

The dims are saying that they are 95% finished the health care bill and that what is left are “informal” discussions, etc.

  73. JanH – Whoever gave that reason is a great spinner. Nan did not do so well:
Pelosi said Congress has already been transparent throughout the process.”There has never been a more open process for any legislation,” Pelosi said at a press conference. Pelosi also hinted that holding informal negotiations–likely without TV cameras–might be the most practical way to push the legislation through.

“We will do what is necessary to pass the bill,” Pelosi said.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), assistant to the Speaker, said the healthcare bill had been “subjected to unprecedented level of public scrutiny.” Pressed on whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed in negotiations, Van Hollen hedged.”We don’t even know if there’s going to be a conference committee,” he said, alluding to the likelihood that Democrats will reconcile the two bills behind closed doors.

  74. Pelosi: we will do whatever is necessary to f the american people and line our pockets with lobbyis money, like the limosine liberals we most certainly are. By the way, I intend to do away with the oath to support the constitution. We will do whatever Obama wants and he will do whatever the money men behind him want. Anything that is necessary, according to the worst Speaker of the House in history. Well, now we know.

  75. Poopsie has really stepped in some shit with that stupid statement. 658 comments to that Hill article all expressing white hot outrage. The dimocrats are really walking the plank on this one. The request by Brian Lamb was the catalyst. Youth and middle class are slated to be the big losers for this, big business quo the dims the huge winners. There will be a day of reckoning for this tyranny. I have never seen it worse in my lifetime. I go back to the Truman era and every government official Obama looked tried to meet the needs of the middle class. Obama, Pelosi and Reid are contemptuous of them. The contempt is real and palpable.

  76. Just announced: Byron Dorgan the D Senator from North Dakota will not run for reelection.

This Scared Monkeys report from December 21 has the reasons right:

    http://scaredmonkeys.com/2009/12/21/2010-north-dakota-senate-election-republican-john-hoeven-58-byron-dorgan-36/

The 2010 future of the Democrat party is looking bleak …

There is one thing that has been learned from the partisan Democrat ramming through of Obamacare in the Senate against the will of the people. The only good Democrat is one voted out of office.

Democrats in some serious trouble in North Dakota in Republican Governor John Hoeven decides to run for Senate in 2010. If Hoeven runs, incumbent Senator Byron Dorgan is all but gone. In a recent Rasmussen poll, Hoeven leads Dorgan 58% to 36% with only 6% undecided.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan may have a serious problem on his hands if Republicans recruit Governor John Hoeven to run for the U.S. Senate in North Dakota next year.

The first Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 telephone survey of likely voters in North Dakota finds the popular Republican governor leading Dorgan by 22 points – 58% to 36%. Just six percent (6%) are undecided in that senatorial contest.

Why is Dorgan getting his butt handed to him in the poll? Because Dorgan is going against the will of his constituents when it comes to Obamacare, as opposition to the health care plan is higher in North Dakota than it is nationally.

What do you think that this means what is in store for the rest of Democrats, including Nebraska’s Ben Nelson? Democrats are about to learn a real lesson in civics … It’s not nice to fool with WE THE PEOPLE!.

  77. http://www.politico.com/livepulse/0110/Pelosi_takes_swipe_at_Obama_campaign_promises.html

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) engaged in a testy exchange with reporters Tuesday — and even took a shot at President Barack Obama — as she defended the closed-door health care negotiations.

When asked about a letter from C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb urging congressional leaders to open up the negotiations — a move that would make good on Obama’s campaign promise — Pelosi shot back: “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.”

Pelosi then deferred the question to Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) before having to return to the microphone to respond to a reporter who claimed a Democratic House member criticized the lack of a formal conference as an “assault to democracy.”

“Well, I don’t know who you’re talking about, but I will say that there has never been a more open process for any legislation that any one has gone through here,” Pelosi said, visibly miffed.

The speaker repeated points made by Van Hollen just moments before, citing the thousands of town halls held nationwide, numerous committee hearings and extensive markups, and access to legislation online.

“We now have another town hall venue and that is the Internet, and our legislation has had visibility for a very long time.”

When pushed again to respond to the statements allegedly made by her Democratic colleague, Pelosi shot back, “I don’t know who you’re talking about, but I completely disagree.”

  78. Thats one more senate seat going back to the republicans easily.

Looks more and more like the Senate Dem majority is going to be reduced by a lot it seems in 2010.

Dorgan obviously knew he was gone and decided not to look like a wipeout.

  79. It gets worse

Republican candidates start the year by opening a nine-point lead over Democrats, the GOP’s biggest in several years, in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 35% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.

While the Republican lead has reached a new high, it should be noted that support for GOP candidates rose just one point over the past week, while support for Democrats dropped four points to its lowest level in years.

In addition, the number of Americans identifying themselves as Democrats fell to the lowest level recorded in more than seven years of tracking.

  80. The killer numbers in this, read the last line

Since late June, support for Republican candidates on the Generic Ballot has ranged from 41% to 44%, while support for Democrats has run from 36% to 40%. Throughout the fall and winter of 2008, support for Democratic congressional candidates ranged from 42% to 47%. Republican support ranged from 37% to 41%. Republicans have held the lead on the ballot for over four months now. Democrats currently have majority control of both the House and Senate.

There has been a notable shift this week among women, who now favor Republicans slightly 40% to 38%. Last week, women favored Democrats 45% to 38%. Men prefer Republicans 49% to 32%, showing little change over the past week.

Among all voters not affiliated with either party, the GOP leads 48% to 17%.

  81. let’s see…Dorgan, Reid, Dodd, Nelson…hmmm there goes the magic 60…who else may be on their way out? way to go, O…bring down the whole dimocratic party…

  86. Just got back from India via London and in our security line we were not asked to take the shoes off (but in the line next to us, everyone was taking their shoes off) and an European older woman was given a thorough body pat search because she set off the metal detector with her numerous ornaments. Meanwhile on another day a guy strapped with explosives wanting to sit on top of the fuel tanks gets his wish (but who would have patted his crotch?). It is just crazy.

With Obama waiting days to react to this (or any other thing for that matter as is his pattern), it almost feels like he wants to judge the reaction of the people and then come back to address it — what a fxxking wimp? He sends his deputies with a “who us? we are doing fine” line and when that does not work, comes up exactly with what people are saying and want to hear.

  87. My crystal ball tells me that Poopsie will be chugging boiler makers tonight. Henry Waxman will be doing his famous Charlie Chaplain routine. George Miller will bellowing like a walrus trapped on an ice flow in the Arctic Ocean. And next year at this time, Poopsie will be the blamed for the loss of the House in November and Stennie Boy will be House Minority leader. The real villain of the piece however is Mr. Obama, and that point needs to be made clear. Anybody who votes for these dims now after seeing how they operate should have their head examined–by Dr. Kevorkian. It’s tyranny we are seeing her and there is no other way to put it.

Oh, and let us not forget the personal sacrifice he made. He came home one day early.

  91. wbboei, Is there any news on Mrs.Smith? I am getting sicker, I just can’t get over this thing, its a bad virus.

The democrats are leaving like rats on a sinking ship, but didn’t we just say that 2007, but it was the other party?

This new is a blue dog, that bothers me, their the good guys, but they followed the messiah to the ship with a huge hole in it, instead of the nice, pristine ship of Hillary Clinton. I hope that rot, they took down the party of the people by putting in this Chi-town mobster.

Don’t you imagine that Hillary would still fight to keep the party afloat after what she gave up? I just can’t forget what Donna Brazille said, they were going to destroy the party to save it??? Could this be what she meant???

  93. Another Big D Drops out – there will be more in the next few weeks as filing deadlines force decisions:

    http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_14129079

Gov. Bill Ritter is expected to announce Wednesday that he will withdraw from the race for governor, numerous sources close to Ritter confirmed Tuesday night.

Ritter began making calls to other prominent Colorado Democrats around 6 p.m. notifying them of his decision. Sources said his office contacted key legislators asking them to be available for an 11 a.m. press conference where Ritter will make his announcement.

Ritter’s decision, which was first reported by a blog affiliated with Congressional Quarterly, was confirmed by The Denver Post and others.

Repeated calls for comment to Ritter’s staff and communications director were not returned tonight. The governor was said to be making calls to other Democrats, informing them of the decision.

House Speaker Terrance Carroll however said he had not been contacted by the governor’s office and had not been told of the governor’s plan.

Polls have shown that Ritter is trailing Republican and former U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis in the race. His departure would clear the way for popular Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter or others to enter the race for governor.

  94. admin: WTH: Dodd too,Ritter, Dorgan and I also hear Ford from Tennesee has moved to NY and is running against Kristin Gillebran.

What the heck is happening and its happening quick. The vote is coming in on healthcare and its time for the maggots to claim their spoils. They will all be back as lobbyests. I also read that Harry Reid has property right where the rail station is to be built. When will it end. We just did this in 07′.

Horowitz and Poe have raised that possibility. It is more than mere speculation. The way he would do it is raise the false issue of election fraud and refuse to cede power. And to orchestrate marches of youth legions against his opponents. That is one of the proven tactics in the colors revolution handbook. It was invented by the Rand Institute as a means for fomenting a bloodless coup. Watch what happens when he launches his amnesty proposal. The race issue will rear its ugly head. Just like he did in South Carolina–see Race Man by Professor Sean Wiltenz. Don’t be surprised. Expect it. That is what he is about.

  99. Connie, I went to the university bookstore yesterday and looked through the shelves to see what courses they are teaching and what the required reading materials are. When they finally connect all those dots to Obama they will have found wisdom.

Senator Christopher J. Dodd Will Not Seek Re-election, Democrats Say

Senator Christopher J. Dodd, the embattled Connecticut
Democrat who was facing an increasingly tough bid for a sixth
term in the Senate, has decided to step aside and not seek
re-election, Democrats familiar with his plans said on
    Wednesday.

  101. Wbboei, I glad to see people are waking up, Naomi Klein did a good job with that book even though she is a major leftist. I haven’t seen Michael Moore’s film about capitalism either. I just hope folks realize what is going on with our govt., its mostly all bad.

I just went over to kool-aid land to see if their grieving over Dodd, they are. The are commending him for falling on his sword to save the seat. You never hear them say shit about Hillary giving up her right won nomination for the good of the party though, do you? Ijust can’t stand Dodd every since the primary, he was there to demean Hillary and he did it, now its “what goes around, comes around”.

They have some guy named Blumenthal they think that can keep the seat in democratic hands.

  102. The following article in Foreign Affairs Magazine bears out what I said above, namely that asshole Soros is fomenting rebellion in Iran and getting people killed. The man is a blunderer despite all his money and power. But he sure has a president in his hip pocket–he owns Obama lock stock and barrel.

Iran ‘bars co-operation with foreign groups’

Iran said the groups had encouraged post-election violence
Iran has banned its citizens from co-operating with foreign organisations it says are trying to destabilise the government, state media has reported.

The 60 blacklisted groups include human rights groups, Iranian opposition websites and media groups such as the BBC and US broadcasters.

Iran’s deputy intelligence minister told Press TV the groups were involved in a “soft war” against the state.

The official said the groups had helped incite post-election unrest.

The BBC, Voice of America, the US National Defense University, the SOROS FOUNDATION, Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the East European Democratic Centre (EEDC) were among the organisations named.

  103. They have some guy named Blumenthal they think that can keep the seat in democratic hands.

    Another Ned Lamont.

Those people are complete fools and traitors. They are not Hillarys constituency and never will be. They do not interest me.

  104. Well I found that on the Daily Kooks. They really think they will hold the seat with a different dumbass.

However, I have found a few normal people over at FDL, especially since she came out against Obama.

  105. Moon–I got an email back from that reporter. His response to my email questioning his hypothesis that Sheila Jackson Lee has an opponent because she supported Hillary. As you may recall, I told him he was wrong and suggested alternative theories and asked him if he had any hard evidence to substantiate his theory. His response was “something to consider”

    Whatever that means.

  106. Wbboei, He is the President, I am sure that blackberry that Obama carries around is straight to Soro’s and Zbig’s line. He says its for friend, yea right, its so the puppet masters can get him anytime day or night.

They were making a comparison between how long it took BUsh to comment on the shoe and how long it took Obama to comment on the pantybomber. Hell, they were both waiting on instructions. Hillary’s comments are her own.

  107. wbboei, I do think we need to consider this might be happening. Afterall, you said Obama will stop at nothing to get re-elected. So there really could be something coming to a head in the democratic party. Its just a thought. I just wonder all these folks that are quitting who they backed in the primary, I wish I still had that worksheet of the superdelegates support, do you still have yours.

  108. Well I found that on the Daily Kooks. They really think they will hold the seat with a different dumbass.
    ———————————————
It is customary to ask what credentials do these young punks have to offer any opinion on whether the dims will hold the seat. What gives them superior judgment? The only thing I can see they have going for them is ignorance, and ignorance is not a virtue. These are the same people who believed Lamont would beat Lieberman in the general election, and we all know that did not happen, I think they have no qualifications and no judgement. Other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

  109. They were making a comparison between how long it took BUsh to comment on the shoe and how long it took Obama to comment on the pantybomber
    ————————
He buries himself with those kinds of comparisons. They make him look weak and defensive. Nobody cares about these petty comparisons to Bush. The American People want to feel they are safe, and with Obama they do not. Period. And of course there are alot of mistakes he has made that Bush did not such as refusing to acknowledge this is a war, scapegoating the CIA and thereby undermining their efficacy, politicizing the FBI with the same result, giving ememy combatants civil trials, allowing them to lawyer up, shutting off the flow of information, straining our relationship with allies like Israel which is a key partner in our anti terrorism shield, and thereby inviting another man made disaster. Obama makes me sick and he has nothing to say worth believing.

  110. Wbboei, So many now at all the liberal blogs are saying the same thing you just said, its quiet amazing.
I also have noticed that folks are realizing that we are being fed by the media these issues to keep us fighting amongst ourselves while the Soros of the world are shredding our constitution.
