Obama’s Patriot Act And The Castrated Left

This past week the terrorist hunts in Queens, and Denver, were round-the-clock. Today Obama announces his support for extension of the Patriot Act. What a coincidence!

Obama’s Patriot Act makes us feel years younger – almost as if we were back in the George W. Bush years with its politically suspect terror raids. Ah… memories!

Maybe the witch hunts this time will be against pink sites or people who go to tea parties. We’re in for exciting times.

Last week, floating on our pink cloud headquarters, high above American cities, we discussed what we would have done with this Big Pink website if Barack Obama in January had passed a Hillary style Home Ownership Loan Corporation and Health Care Reform (not IRS enforced largess for insurance and pharmaceutical companies). On our pink cloud we agreed that we would have had to cease publication after a long and detailed series of crow eating, humble pie ingesting, articles.

But the celestial choirs did not sing in January, it was a 2010 election slush fund that passed in the early months, and our predictions of future Obama behavior are on target because “history is a teacher”. And we are still in business. We could cease writing new articles and actually simply provide dates and links for earlier articles and republish them – for all the accuracy contained therein.

On our pink cloud, parasols shielding us from the close sun, we also discussed the castrated left and how silent those lambs have been now that Obama has declared in no uncertain terms that illegal immigrants (or undocumented workers to Dimocrats) cannot get health insurance. The lambs have also been silent regarding the ban on abortion funding for women under the non-existent Obama “plan”.

* * * * *

But let’s not get dour and distracted by taking seriously the castrated left – let’s laugh at those eunuchs.

Once again, let’s go into our vaults and read a past article – from July 10, 2008:

Yesterday, an angry Jesse Jackson threatened to slice off Obama’s testicles. Jesse Jackson apparently does not realize that Obama has no “nuts” to cut off.

Obama is a political eunuch who will never stand his ground. Rather, Obama will cower across the aisle and submit to Republican demands.

It’s a day like yesterday that we at Big Pink know beyond dispute that we are right and the incense burners are wrong. Democrats want a Democratic President who will fight for Democratic values.

It is not only Obama who lacks testicular/ovarian fortitude. It is Obama supporters who are getting the leader they deserve. Obama supporters deluded themselves with a creature of their own creation. Now, Obama supporters lack the fortitude to do what needs to be done to rid us of this Chicago flip-flop-flim-flam contortionist.

Those paragraphs read like we wrote them this week, don’t they? Those words are fresh as a daisy. We’ve got Obama’s number and those of his Hopium addled sad sacks.

Speaking of sad sacks, let’s check out the boys on ‘Nothing Left’ for a good laugh:

Meet the New Boss

Obama supports extending Patriot Act provisions

I assume, by this point, no one expected anything else?

If not, forgive me, but you’re the living definition of denial.

Oh, what the hell heck. These “creative class” types are stealing our “Obama is the Third Bush Term” “meme” so let’s be lazy and print their laugh riot in its entirety:

The fundamental truth about the Obama administration is that it is the Bush administration run by slightly less incompetent, marginally less evil people:

* The Iraq occupation will end when Bush wanted it to.

* The Bush administration’s campaign of eradication of fundamental civil liberties, including the gutting of the 4th amendment and holding people without trial, continues.

* The Afghan war continues, and is even being escalated.

* The signature issue of “health care reform” is a scheme which will force citizens to buy private insurance which, because of lack of effective controls, will increase in price faster than wages or inflation.

* Obama and Geithner have followed the Bush/Paulson financial policies, virtually to the letter, spending trillions bailing out Wall Street and creating a financial sector which has fewer, larger actors with more political power than before.

* Obama continues to exert pressure primarily on Progressives rather than on Blue Dogs in order to obtain relatively more conservative rather than liberal bills. (This is not an accident.) The most liberal bill always comes from the House, the conference committee bill is inevitably closer to the more conservative Senate bill. (This is not an accident.)

* Unlike Bush Jr, Bush Sr., Clinton, and Reagan, Obama has not replaced the prior administration’s district attorneys wholesale, instead leaving in place the majority of the Bush administration DA’s who had survived Rove’s purges intended to make sure they were loyal Republican apparatchiks.

* Obama has not cleaned out the administration in general of Bush-era appointees and plants; indeed he has filled less spots than either Clinton or Bush II had by this point in their terms—and no, it’s not because the Senate won’t confirm them.

* Obama appointees will be forced to resign if the right wing (aka Beck) goes after them hard, but if progressives don’t like them, tough luck.

* Obama’s economic team is filled with people who created the framework which allowed the financial meltdown to occur, who didn’t see it coming, and whose solution to it is to give money to their friends and colleagues and try and get another bubble started.

* Etc.

In most meaningful ways, Obama is running a slightly kinder, gentler and very moderately less-stupid version of the Bush constitutional framework.

Plus ça change plus c’est la meme chose.

Poor B.O.T.s – we almost feel sorry for their French quoting, “creative class” self-aggrandizing asses – but we’re too busy laughing at them.

Just imagine what those little “creative class” boobs will do when they have to figure out what to write about after the already delayed immigration reform does not happen; when the Defense of Marriage Act remains untouched (Hillary would have smartly gutted the operative sections of the law but left the law in place to further confound the right-wing. The Obama Hopium addled however did not like Hillary’s sensible, clever solution and instead believed the flim-flam man when he said he would repeal the whole thing. Now they get nothing.); and they finally realize what we told them lo those many years ago was right. Poor B.O.T.s.

We’ll laugh ourselves silly and fray our white gloves applauding, just at the very thought of what the B.O.T.s will say or do, when they discover Barack Obama is raising millions to secure the Dimocratic nomination in the Senate race in Pennsylvania for Arlen Specter – even as the Hopium addled B.O.T.s raise millions for their enemy Blue dogs. That’s Entertainment!

The latest Obama induced distress is the news that Obama will once again agree with George W. Bush:

The Obama administration supports extending three key provisions of the Patriot Act that are due to expire at the end of the year, the Justice Department told Congress in a letter made public Tuesday.

Lawmakers and civil rights groups had been pressing the Democratic administration to say whether it wants to preserve the post-Sept. 11 law’s authority to access business records, as well as monitor so-called “lone wolf” terrorists and conduct roving wiretaps.

The provision on business records was long criticized by rights groups as giving the government access to citizens’ library records, and a coalition of liberal and conservative groups complained that the Patriot Act gives the government too much authority to snoop into Americans’ private lives.

As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama said he would take a close look at the law, based on his past expertise in constitutional law. Back in May, President Obama said legal institutions must be updated to deal with the threat of terrorism, but in a way that preserves the rule of law and accountability.

Obama is still fluffing his “expertise in constitutional law”. How Obama can say that with a straight face is a miracle medical science is yet to explain. Perhaps criminal psychiatry is the study which will explain that mystery.

As to the Obama Patriot Act itself, Dimocratic Senator Leahy will hold a hearing next week and maybe he will invite Obama’s befuddled minions to cry on camera against the perfidious law, for our amusement.

* * * * *

The Patriot Act stab in the back by Obama will not preoccupy his lemmings for too long. Today the Senate Finance Committee is supposed to release some hash writing which passes for the draft plan they will continue to knead until the Committee gives birth to something, anything.

The non-existent plan is already dead and the Duds at MyDud are weeping. The Duds are in such bad shape they concede the Republicans (well, Olympia Snowe) opposing the Baucus bill have a point. The Duds write:To be fair to Senator Snowe, some of her concerns on the Baucus bill are valid and mirror concerns held by liberal Democrats.”

The Hill newspaper has the weep inducing details on the Finance Committee produced mouse:

Senate Democrats are going to have to move forward on healthcare without a single Republican supporter after Sen. Olympia Snowe said Tuesday she could not back the Finance Committee’s bill.

Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) failed to win any Republican backer despite weeks of intense negotiations behind closed doors to strike a deal.

Snowe (Maine), who was one of three Republicans who backed the $787 billion economic stimulus package, was being lobbied heavily by the White House, and some centrists view her refusal to strike a deal with Baucus as troubling. But concerns about how the plan would be paid for prompted her to back away in the hours before its release.

What’s a B.O.T. to do? The Hopium addled will whine and threaten and shout “reconciliation!” but these castrated boys don’t have the testicular fortitude required to admit they have been flim-flammed by Barack Obama. The Hopium addled will stomp feet and say clever things in French. Some of the Hopium addled will feel ever so cool when they post video of the song “Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

Some of the Hopium addled B.O.T.s will denounce the drifty Snowe and ignore her sad complaint:

Obama and Baucus have suggested paying for a big chunk of reform by levying new taxes on high-cost insurance plans. Specifically, Baucus has suggested a 35 percent excise tax on insurance plans that cost single individuals more than $8,000 a year and cost families more than $21,000.

Snowe’s problem with that plan is that it could impose a heavy tax burden on Maine, which has one of the highest average health insurance premiums in the country. A July study by Harvard economist David Cutler found that Maine, on average, has the fourth-most costly insurance premiums in the country, trailing only Connecticut, Delaware and New Hampshire.

Snowe said she is concerned about Baucus’s plans to tax high-cost plans.

Snowe will not be the only Senator troubled by the flaky Obama plans:

For example, family plans in low-cost states such as Kentucky would be taxed above $21,000 but Massachusetts families wouldn’t see plans under $25,000 taxed.

But this threshold would be pegged to the consumer price index, and because healthcare prices are rising faster than inflation, many Maine families could see unexpected taxes after a decade.

Snowe is also having a meltdown over the “affordability” issue.

Snowe has objected to Baucus’s bill for requiring as many as 4 million uninsured Americans to buy health plans without providing them with significant federal subsidies.

Snowe said that lawmakers cannot expect people to comply with a federal mandate to buy health insurance if affordable plans are not available

“The affordability question is crucial,” said Snowe. “It’s a central component, because at the end of the day people have high expectations they will have access to affordable health insurance.”

Why have access to affordable health insurance when you can have “Hope” and “Change”? Who needs health care without the currently planned high premiums and high deductibles – so high you will effectively be transferring wealth to insurance companies for no services whatsoever other than the privilege of handing over money – when you can bask in the countenance of the beaming face and big grin of Barack Obama? These Hopium addled B.O.T.s got what they wanted: Hope, Change, and Obama.

The Castrated Left should be happy now that they have their precious Obama and all the Hope, Change, and Patriot Act (and “racists” everywhere to denounce) they can stomach.

Who needs movies, television or other drollery when we have, for free, the French quoting creative classes to entertain us? That’s Entertainment!

  1. ABC News reports on the Baucus plan. Somehow this looks like an iron pillow. The Rockefeller objection:

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/09/dem-senator-warns-of-big-big-tax-on-middle-class-in-baucus-bill.html

    It’s not every day that you hear a Democratic senator charge that a fellow Democrat is proposing to raise taxes on the middle class, but that is what happened on Tuesday when Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., ripped into the health-care bill developed by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mt., the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

    The Baucus proposal would impose, starting in 2013, a 35 percent excise tax on insurance companies for “high-cost plans” — defined as those above $8,000 for individuals and $21,000 for family plans. [snip]

    The West Virginia Democrat worries, however, that a lot of middle class workers, like the coal miners in his state, will end up facing “a big, big tax” under the Baucus bill because they currently enjoy generous employer-provided health care benefits which they receive tax free.

    Referring to Baucus, Rockefeller said, “He should understand that (his proposal) means that virtually every single coal miner is going to have a big, big tax put on them because the tax will be put on the company and the company will immediately pass it down and lower benefits because they are self insured, most of them, because they are larger. They will pass it down, lower benefits, and probably this will mean higher premiums for coal miners who are getting very good health care benefits for a very good reason. That is, like steelworkers and others, they are doing about the most dangerous job that can be done in America.”

    “So that’s not really a smart idea,” Rockefeller continued. “In fact, it’s a very dangerous idea, and I’m not even sure the coal miners in West Virginia are aware that this is what is waiting if this bill passes.”

  2. “Snowe has objected to Baucus’s bill for requiring as many as 4 million uninsured Americans to buy health plans without providing them with significant federal subsidies.”

    Well duh! These idiots live in their gold-plated mansions and could care less that the average household doesn’t have money for extras like this. Heck given the unemployment situation and the state of the economy, what are the dims thinking?

    Obama Overload? President to Do ‘Full Ginsburg’ Sunday: Obama’s Multiple TV Appearances Have Some Saying He Risks Overexposure

    By JAKE TAPPER
    Sept. 16, 2009

    Fans of President Barack Obama are in for a treat this weekend. The president is going on a massive publicity blitz as he steps up his push for health care overhaul.

    Obama will be interviewed Sunday on five shows — ABC News’ “This Week With George Stephanopoulos,” CNN’s “State of the Nation”, CBS’s “Face the Nation”, NBC’s “Meet the Press” and Univision’s “Al Punto with Jorge Ramos” — in what is called a “full Ginsburg.”

    In modern media lore, the first time someone pulled the five-show feat was 11 years ago, in 1998, when Monica Lewinsky’s attorney, William Ginsburg, made the rounds to defend his client. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., did a full Ginsburg in 2007 after launching her presidential bid.

    For both Ginsburg and Clinton, Fox News Sunday made the cut, and Univision didn’t. Such is not the case for Obama: Democrats say the Fox News Sunday audience is largely entrenched in their opposition to the president, and beyond persuasion, and thus submitting to an interview might not be the best use of Obama’s time.

    Polls indicate that Americans say the more they hear about the president’s proposed overhaul, the less they like it. An ABC News/Washington Poll last week showed 54 percent of Americans feel that way. White House officials say that’s because Americans are hearing false attacks on Obama’s plan, not reality — hence the PR blitz.

    Critics snipe that the president risks overexposure. In addition to this weekend’s shows, he granted interviews last week to ABC News’ “Good Morning America” and this week to CBS’s “60 Minutes,” CNBC and Bloomberg News.

    Republican strategist Kevin Madden says it’s too much. “I think the worry is it’s gone beyond overexposure and now we have what I would call the ‘Obama omnipresence.’ You almost can’t escape this president,” Madden said on ABC News’ “Top Line.” “It goes beyond just cable news and it goes into whether or not you’re flipping on ESPN and you’re seeing him talk about basketball or you turn on the Lifetime channel and you hear what Michelle Obama is wearing this week. And I think that begins to wear on a lot of people.”

    President Obama’s Publicity Campaign

    The president’s pitch goes well beyond news shows. He is also omnipresent on magazine racks and, next week, he will take his message to late night with an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” — the first appearance since he was elected president. And that’s not Obama’s only comedy show appearance. He is even showing up in promotions for the new George Lopez comedy show on TBS.

    Madden says the barrage of TV appearances may have the opposite effect of what he’s trying to achieve. “The president keeps — he tries to hit reset with a big speech or an appearance on, you know, a major media outlet and that becomes one of these things where it starts to dilute the message,” Madden said. “And the message is that he just keeps carrying another message and that begins to hurt him, in my book.”

    But there are others who believe the president could step it up even more to avail himself of the opportunity to get his message across to the American people.

  4. The French have complete socialized medicine, high taxes and retire by 60. So what do the Hexx do they know about any plan a Democracy might put together. Oh, but then they do have free press.

  5. Most people who watch the news on television do so to stay informed. They have a limited amount of time to devote to that endeavor. It has become obvious to anyone paying attention that ABC, NBC, MSNBC and CBS give them censored slanted coverage which bears no rational relationship to the truth. Therefore, it is a bad investment of time to watch them, if you want to know what is going on in the world. It is like reading Pravda, only today even Pravda is more reliable. There has never been a time, with the possible exception of World War II that Gig Media has gone to such lengths to distort and censor the truth. Then it was done to protect the country, i.e. loose lips sink ships, etc. whereas today it is done so people like Tapper can work for people like Soros and do his bidding to the detriment of the country. Tapper and his ilk lead such fine lives that they forget that they have made a faustian pact with the devil.

  6. “Snowe has objected to Baucus’s bill for requiring as many as 4 million uninsured Americans to buy health plans without providing them with significant federal subsidies.”
    —————————
    Snowe will sell out in the end like she always does. So please spare us this dance of the seven veils. Get it over with. And while she is at it she should follow the lead of Arlen Spector into the other party. She brings nothing of substance to the Republican Party, except the false hope that she is a Republican and will behave accordingly. I wonder if she has ever cast a vote for her own party. Silly question. Collins is no better and may even be worse.

  7. “Ford was the only one of the Detroit Three that did not seek federal assistance, and this has likely helped bolster its reputation among car buyers.”

    autos.aol.com/article/ford-success-government-money

    H stuff not ws

    I appears that the automotive bailout did not benefit those that took it, as much as it benefited FORD who did not take it. A big part of it was its ability to react timely without government approval. Oh, another program for OO that did not work real well.

  8. Well that Healthcare bounce went down quicker than an ACORN ho at a Dem convention.

    Opposition to Health Care Reform Reaches New High at 55%

    One week after President Obama’s speech to Congress, opposition to his health care reform plan has reached a new high of 55%. The latest Rasmussen Reports daily tracking poll shows that just 42% now support the plan, matching the low first reached in August.

    Talk about bombing fast.

  9. I LOVE your writing, Admin.
    ‘Today the Senate Finance Committee is supposed to release some hash writing which passes for the draft plan they will continue to knead until the Committee gives birth to something, anything.’
    Another excellent article.’

    BTW, I got a bill (hopefully insurance will cover it) for just one of the 10 treatments I’m taking for the chemo cycle and it’s $10,000 per injection!!!!!! That means, with the the 3 drugs added in, the total for TX is going to run $100G! I am so disgusted by this and feeling guilty at the same time. How is it possible for a company to charge the. amount of money for a single injection?????????
    The good news is there’s only 3 cycles left but I am ashamed by what the charges are and when you see bills that high you start wondering if you’re worth it.

  10. Bambis dropping again

    The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 32% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -6.

    One week after the President’s address to Congress, opposition to his health care proposal has reached the highest level yet recorded.

    Just 12% of voters nationwide believe most opponents of the President’s plan are racists. Republicans and unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly reject that notion but Democrats are more evenly divided.

    Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. Fifty-one percent (51%) now disapprove.

  11. But Backus–now there is the real disappointment. I do not know what is happening in Montana. First, there is that Governor who a friend of mind worked to get elected. He goes around the Convention bragging to people about how they switched voting places to fool Republican voters, and even mentioned it while he was on camera. I don’t know if he was drunk or what, but if I lived in Montana I would borrow a chapter from the Blackfoot Indian ceremony which made the Marquis de Sade look like a choir boy. And then there is Backus. If there was ever a man who has been in Washington too long, infested with lice, i.e. lobbyists he is your man. Their other Senator I like because he is a farmer and as far as I know an honest one. Also, whatever happened to Mike Mansfield? He was a great American, and a great Democrat, whereas Backus, and this Governor are sad examples of the death of partisan politics in that state which trace its roots back to the days of William Jennings Bryant.

  12. I belong to the Madden School which says too much exposure is a bad thing. Put differently, familiarity breeds contempt. In this case, over exposure of Barack confirms the impression that he has not made the transition from campaigning to governing, is just another celebrity and is boring to watch and listen to. It diminishes him. When things are falling apart, people would like to believe a president has better things to do than match wits with dimwits like David Letterman who has nothing intelligent to add to the debate of serious issues. I have a friend who says they would not be doing this if they did not believe it was working. My take is they are doing it because it is all he knows how to do.

  13. Great, you are all here. Good Morning. Admin, I had wondered in the back of my mind if we would still be here had this administration true started to function on day one. Instead, they sashaed in there with this swagger like, well we are here, and we don’t have to do anything we don’t want to do.

    I also think that maybe they did not think they had to perform, that the world would give them a pass card, and all they had to do was hide out for 4 years. Could they have been that uneducated? One has to wonder. But then some of the participants are used to using fear and bullying tackic, so why should that not work on a country.

    The accounts in El Paso brought back many memories. Why we let that happen, I will never know.

  14. Don’t you think it is interesting that Ford got a new CEO, and his compensation was only $12M, and he is really managing the company. $14 was spent on a group by the others to deal with the government.

    Hay, a CEO that really might earn his pay, vs a committee that did not do that well. Amazing.

  15. Bambis dropping again
    ————————-
    Most significant about this is the fact that it is happening in the absense of a clearly defined Republican challenger. I am not privy to the reasons why Palin has pulled back from the health care debate, but if I were advising the other party what to do at this point, I would encourage them to get the word to Sarah to just sit back and watch. I think Barack is floundering and Big Media is looking for distractions. The more he rushes from one publicity gig to another the more his desperation becomes obvious. That is what butt boy Tapper is trying to hide by suggesting that others did this in the context of the Monica Lewinsky episode, etc. Tapper as you know is one of the pre eminent Hillary haters in the press, and called her Tanya Harding when she would not quit the primary until everyone had an opportunity to vote. He is an efete limosene liberal who deals in propaganda not truth.

  16. So where is your friends proof that it is working?
    ———————————————–
    She is a media analyst but has not presented any hard evidence to support the proposition that it is working. Rather, she is assumes they know what they are doing and would not be doing it if it was not helpful to their cause. My point is that it may be unrelated to that by merely a manifestation of the fact that Barack is a one trick pony. His people do have him talked into the proposition that he must have a bill or he is toast. If I were advising him I would tell him to back off and do it in increments. But now that would be perceived as failure, because of the way he has set the stage. It is bad bargaining strategy. Underpromise and overdeliver is what he should have done.

  17. Barack is a victim of his own success. He has been successful in hiding who he is and switching positions on a dime. He thinks this is politically smart, and avoids traps. And the press makes every conceivable excuse for him when he does this. The problem with it is it diminishes his credibility in the eyes of the American People. Its answers they want not excuses, and the glitter is gone. When he switches positions and breaks his promises people no longer trust him. And when they do not trust him they will not believe what he says–even on those rare occasions when he is telling the truth.

  18. Don’t you think it is interesting that Ford got a new CEO, and his compensation was only $12M, and he is really managing the company. $14 was spent on a group by the others to deal with the government.
    —————————————
    I missed that. What happened to Alan Mulally (sp)? He is a good guy and was the former head of Boeing Airplane Company. When they failed to promote him to CEO he went to Ford.

  19. If I were in Barack’s position I would find it humiliating to hear the Senate Minority Leader say that I would sign anything on health care, after I had staked out an aggressive position on the issue, and made it the cornerstone of my legislative agenda. It would feel like defeat, and I would be hard pressed to blame it on the Republicans when I held substantial majorities in both Houses. I would be reluctant to invoke the nuclear option because the standing agreement between the parties on major legislation is that it takes 60 votes to pass. The bad blood and recriminations and voter backlash could be severe as 2010 approaches. Nancy has already damaged those prospects by the censure of Wilson. It reminds me of Ciceros comment about the arrogance of officialdom. It does not sit well with voters, especially when their vital personal interests are at stake. Nothing so fixates the mind as the imminent prospect of being hanged, or in this case deprived of health care.

  23. Ya, right, HE THINKS THIS IS POLITICALLY SMART, AND AVOIDS TRAPS, based on what Sotos’s experience?
    ——————————-
    The free pass people have given him. If he were held to the same standard as every other president, none of this would have been tolerated. It sends a bad message if the first black president fails, and that is what people are trying cover up. But that can be addressed with the right explanation. What cannot be tolerated however is economic failure and cross charges of racism, which is how his left wing operatives are setting the stage. That is what we have to fight against. We must fight their lies with truth.

  24. Beware fellow citizens and fellow bloggers!!!

    The WH Gestapo is watching and listening.They are compiling a hit list.
    Keep your back to the wall.To me the
    scenario is so familiar.

  25. Do you mean Would NOT sign anything?
    ——————————-
    No. If I understand what McConnell said with a smile it was that Barack was by inference so desperate that he would sign anything. If that is what he meant then the subtext reads give me a headline because I am campaigning not governing. The problem is a much diminishes sleeves off the vest approach to health care would let down many important constituencies. What would I do under these circumstances? Easy to say hard to do, but I would repudiate the deals I made with industry and start governing for the benefit of the people. But in Baracks case, that is not in his DNA. But sure as hell that is what I would do. I also believe that is what Hillary would have done–side with the American People rather than Soros, GE et al.

  26. Which explains why obama is doing wall to wall must-NOT-see T.V. on Sunday.
    ——————————–
    We shall see if the theories of Joseph Goebbels work. It still comes down to a very personal decision. Whether they voted for Barack or did not, people will say do I know enough about this man to trust him with my health care? I know what I have now. I have no idea what he will give me. He tells me it will be fine, but he has broken too many promises in the past for me to believe him now.

  27. Thanks, birdgal.

    D@mn but she’s busy.

  28. So he does the round robin on Sunday Morning Talk Shows. If Barack wants people to trust him he needs to give absolute guarantees that what he delivers to every American is as good or better that what they have now, and will not cost them more. He must tell them I want you to hold me to that promise and if I do not deliver I will not seek re election. I am on your side and not the side of industry. And to prove that is true I have repudiated the secret deals my people negotiated with them.

    See how easy that was.

  29. White House Lobbies for Interim Kennedy Seat Appointment

    David Axelrod called the president of the Massachusetts Senate on Monday to lobby for a law change to fill Sen. Kennedy’s Senate seat until a Jan. 19 special election is held.

    The Obama White House has left the sidelines and jumped in with both feet as Massachusetts lawmakers debate whether to change current law and appoint an interim U.S. Senator to replace the deceased Edward M. Kennedy.

    FOX News has learned Senior White House adviser David Axelrod called the president of the Massachusetts Senate on Monday to lobby for the law change to fill Kennedy’s Senate seat until the Jan. 19 special election is held. Axelrod called Therese Murray to discuss the matter, Deputy White House Press Secretary Bill Burton confirmed to FOX late Tuesday.

    Burton said Axelrod was “checking in” with Murray, but Democratic sources say the call was designed to underscore White House interest in seeing Massachusetts law changed and an interim Senator appointed as crunch-time approaches in the health care debate.

    In addition to his closeness to Obama, Axelrod also has deep ties to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. The governor wants the Legislature to give him power to appoint Kennedy’s successor. Axelrod’s leverage may prove useful to Patrick in this regard.

    The Obama White House wants and needs as many Democrats as it can get for health care. An interim appointment would raise its number of Democrats available on a daily basis to 59. Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia is ill and rarely present for Senate debate and votes.

    Two names continue to surface as Kennedy’s replacement: former Kennedy aide and former DNC Chairman Paul Kirk, and former Massachusetts Governor and 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis.

    Kirk is still thought to have the inside track as a keeper of the Kennedy flame and party loyalist through-and-through. Even so, Dukakis has been lobbying lawmakers in the legislature for the opportunity – albeit it brief – to wrestle with one of the biggest domestic issues of the Obama presidency. The constituency for Kirk appears to include the vast majority of Kennedy family members as well as Washington-based Democrats. Dukakis’s constituency appears mostly of him and an assortment of aides and advisers in Massachusetts who worked on his gubernatorial or presidential campaign staff.

    Senior Senate Democratic leaders have, so far, declined to publicly state a preference.

    The Massachusetts House is due to vote on the interim-appointment bill on Thursday and the Senate, led by Murray, is expected to follow suit. No dates for Senate action have been firmly established.

  30. If I am right, the Sunday tour de force will produce a dead cat bounce which will dissipate within a week. The dims will plan an aggressive follow up in a vain attempt to keep the balloon aloft. It does not matter. If the public option goes, then so does his support in the progressive community. If it stays it will inflame the industry. When JP Morgan was asked about the stock market he famously said it will fluctuate. And so it is here. But the downward trajectory for Mr. Obama is inevitable as I see it.

  33. I received this in an email from a cousin. I have not read this anywhere. does anyone know if this is true?

    “Under the present law, there is no prohibition on funding your own care/ meds/ procedures.

    Under Obamacare, as the legislation now stands (and I do not think it will pass in its full current form) they plan to CRIMINALIZE paying for one’s own care outside the system of bureaucratic approvals, and to make any physicians who perform outside the system into criminals as well.

    (CONGRESS — PLUS SPOUSES AND MINOR CHILDREN — WILL, OF COURSE, WILL BE EXEMPT FROM THIS PLAN.)

    It’s been all over the news this summer: This is why people are so violently enraged at these cocked-up “Town Meetings.”

  34. Carol, i think they mean you will have to have insurance, pay a fine, or get a hardship waver. Not that you can’t pay for care out of pocket. That’s ridiculous. Indeed, many people will still need to pay for care out of pocket.

    ACORN, allies score big win in New York

    Local elections in New York last night brought a rare result, unseating half a dozen incumbent members of the City Council in a Democratic Primary.

    The big winner: The Working Families Party, of which ACORN is a major constituent, which has developed the city’s strongest field operation, which backed three of the insurgent Democrats. Their candidates also had good nights in the citywide races.

    (I get the sense that most of the people writing and talking about ACORN have only the vaguest sense of what it is; in New York, it’s a hybrid of a political and organizing operation and one that provides services; the latter section is the one that seems a little too comfortable offering tax advice to pimps.)

    In any case, while New York authorities say they’re looking into allegations against ACORN, the night’s election results present a complicated fact: Working Families, and ACORN, were running more or less a reform slate, and the candidates who lost were the weakest of the machine standard-bearers.

    Gatemouth, a centrist local Democratic blogger who has been a critic, writes:

    Even before last night’s Waterloo, those of us on the center and left who’ve railed endlessly against the perfidy of the WFP/ACORN/DFS axis of evil have found ourselves hamstrung by several inconvenient factors.

    The first is that our outrage has inconveniently coincided with Republican outrage mostly focused on ACORN slovenliness, as opposed to illegality. Even I have defended ACORN from such calumny in the past, though Republicans may have a point about ACORN’s failure to adequately separate the not-for-profit sectors of the political sector. Of course, Republicans may want to reflect upon the fact that their insistence on privatizing so many government is what led ACORN to be the recipient of so many government contract during their administrations.

    The second factor hamstringing people like myself and [and other critics] has been the fact that in many, if not most races, the WFP candidates appeared to be the preferable ones

  47. ABC World News Boss on Ignoring ACORN: ‘We’re Not in the Business of Noise’

    By Tim Graham
    September 16, 2009

    Backing up his anchorman, Charles Gibson, who suggested on the radio that maybe the ACORN story “is just one you leave to the cables,” World News executive Jon Banner extended the liberal snobbery on Politico:

    While Banner admits that some stories may get more attention on cable, blogs or talk radio, it doesn’t mean they’re suited for the “World News” audience. “There’s a tremendous amount of – for lack of a better word – ‘noise’ out there. We’re not in the business of noise.”

    ABC can devote entire segments to Obama swatting a fly on camera, but they report “news,” not “noise”? Banner also claimed:

    “It’s a very different editorial process when you have 24 hours to fill as opposed to 22 minutes,” Banner said, explaining why ACORN hasn’t yet fit in the evening newscast. Lately, Banner noted that the program has been focused on covering Afghanistan, health care, the economy and the anniversary of 9/11.

    He wasn’t the only news snob in the Politico piece. Dean Baquet, Washington Bureau Chief of the New York Times and one of the country’s top black newspaper editors, also snooted that he should take any scoops from Glenn Beck:

    “For Glenn Beck to devote 45 minutes of his show to ACORN and Van Jones says more about his news judgment than mine,” said Dean Baquet, Washington bureau chief of the New York Times.

    “He’s not a newsman and that’s not a news show,” Baquet continued. “He’s not trying to cover the economy, two wars, health care, the aftermath from one administration to another, negotiations with Iran or North Korea.”

    It’s one thing for a TV producer to try and claim they don’t have time for fraudulent federal grant recipients. It’s ridiculous for a newspaper editor to charge they don’t have space for it.

    That is not surprising. The heirs to the Faberge family control alot of the funding in that venue and they always back these sorts of causes. I have been told that by insiders so I take it as gospel. The more important thing is how Politico continues to report only one side of the story. They are the same people who employ Dana Milbank and Chris Cilezza if I am not mistaken. And that pair of dumbshits made the recent video calling Hillary the b word. **************************************************

    per our discussion, it bears repeating that many people are not paying attention to the details of any of these ‘health plans’ even the dumb left who takes offense at anyone who criticizes O and then as admin so accurately states, turns around and backs blue dogs…frankly, most of them are still in a trance and have no idea how these plans are being constructed to work against them…and O keeps it all going by constantly talking in generalities that no one disagrees with…however he never mentions the costs, fines or IRS elements…

    …once the details are out and the average jane and joe realize that they will be forced to pay for insurance that will surely continue to get expensive (see stories being reported on failure of Mass health reform plan and costs that continue to go up with health benefits being marginalized)

    …wait until the average person realizes that they will not only be FORCED to pay for insurance with little choice available to them and if they don’t, they will be fined by the IRS…and the IRS will be breathing down their necks, you can bet on it…
    …the very same IRS that would not even waive the fines on IRA withdrawals for people to save their homes or desperate to pay their bills…

    …just wait until the REALITY of OBAMACARE is made known…now, it is still a case of Obama vs THEM (anyone against O)…so O supporters are still loyal to O…

    …just wait until they begin to understand what it is going to cost them and that there is no choice…

    I cannot understand how there will actually be any Dems out there trying to sell any of the versions to people that are really struggling…they have got to be kidding…once again, how dumb do they think we are?

    it seems as if the Dem Party is in the process of self destruction…protecting drug and insurance co while trying to bamboozle the common folk

    **************************************************

    as for the constant fallback of calling everyone who criticizes O a racist…
    when does the notion of ‘reverse racism’ start kicking in???

    when do normal people who simply disagree with O take personal offense to being labeled racists when there is nothing in their lives to suggest such a thing???

    when do they begin to feel being discriminated against?

    …there is a breaking point when independent thinking people see thru this charade…O and the dems attempt to stifle people and their differing opinions and it becomes like the ‘boy who cried wolf’…one too many times…enough is enough…

    …the dems are flirting with that breaking point…they are stifiling…americans do not like to be stifiled…or labeled…

  61. Jimmy Carter: Wilson comments ‘based on racism’

    h… apnews.myway.com/article/20090916/D9AO5MA00.html

    What an ASS!

    Sep 15, 2009

    By GREG BLUESTEIN

    ATLANTA (AP) – Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act “based on racism” and rooted in fears of a black president.

    “I think it’s based on racism,” Carter said in response to an audience question at a town hall held at his presidential center in Atlanta. “There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president.”

  62. Carter conveniently overlooks his failure at leading the country when he was president. He presumes telling Americans our representatives in Congress should show respect to the president, rather than do the job they were elected to do, ie. deliver our sentiments to the president, when the president shuts off any other viable means of access. (aka deaf ears)

    Jim needs a Bill of Rights and Constitutional refresher. This country was founded on speaking out no matter where and the protocols of PC be damned when the issues affecting our everyday lives and our children’s future are at stake.

  63. Carter lost his relevance long ago. He keeps trying to make the news, change how historians will write about him. Just look how he is doing it. He’s buddy buddy with Arab terrorists just like his master, obama.

  64. There is a gangster slang expression called “going on the lamb”. It means hiding from the police, or other accountability for your actions.

    Far be it from me to suggest that is what Mr. Obama is doing. He seems very sincere. But sincerity is a much overrated virtue.

    He needs to stop campaigning and start leading. He is after all the President. And what does that mean in this context?

    It means he must get away from the camera, huddle with his own party and introduce his own bill with a public option.

    And for gosh sakes barack stop tying to compare this to Hillary’s bill. Hers was universal coverage. She did not abdicate her role to congress.

    Above all, stop playing the race card. And tell your big media allies to stop it as well. False claims of racism are the last bastion of scoundrels.

  65. Whenever I see Carter now he seems angry and bitter. And as I say he is a guilt ridden southerner who remembers the sad legacy of discrimination and is now at a point where he sees land where there is no land. I think his bitterness must relate the the Iran affair which was the Wagnerian downfall of his tragic presidency. Of course I am part of that problem. I voted for him in 1976, and he was a disappointment.

  66. ‘when do normal people who simply disagree with O take personal offense to being labeled racists when there is nothing in their lives to suggest such a thing???’

    I think Bozo is in the midst of digging a grave not only for the dims but
    for race relations and AA”s are the ones who are going to be dmaged the most.

    When you have the congressional black caucus pushing for the Wilson rebuke, Clyburn, Waters etc calling non-BO supporters racists – when you see the tactics formerly limited mostly to the NYC area via Sharpton going mainstream, you just have to wonder how they think that reducing disagreement to racism can help them in the long run, for all the reasons you suggested. This is not going to end well. Not to tout my instincts, but I have known this from the beginning of BO’s
    media driven ascent back in late 2007. Maybe that’s coz I have seen the same thing happen, on a smaller scale, in the urban school systemit

    Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said that it’s not enough for African-Americans to levy allegations of racism against the right-leaning protesters, and that the media must look into their views.

    “I want those people talked to; I want them interviewed,” Waters told the liberal Bill Press Radio show in a podcast. “I want journalists to be all over those rallies and the marches with the birthers and the teabaggers.”

    “What I’m looking for is the very people who carry the signs who are referring to the policies in very, very strange ways like ‘Obamacare’ and ‘Barry Obamacare with Kennedy,’” she said. “What I’ve been interested in is hearing from those people that everybody’s referring to — everybody on the Mall, in the rally.”

  76. Maxine Waters?? Who the hell is she anyway Hitler’s wife! I hope her statements go viral. This is America, we have freedom of speech. Oh that pisses me off to NO end. With dumbasses like Maxine Waters Obamas numbers will plummet faster and faster and they just too ignorant to see that. There is going to be a race war soooon!!!

  77. So we’re back to the old anything you say about AA’s is bloody racist.

    Fuck this, I aint putting up with this shit anymore. What more do they want.

  78. Basil so Maxine Waters doesn’t think calling people racist is enough, what does she want to censure all opposition?? WTF, is wrong with this woman, she wants to nationalize the oil industry and censure all opposition (whites). I wonder who her hero is Chi Quevera, Castro, or the idiot running Venezuela??

  79. I mean, America put a Bi racial African american in the WH,ffs, do you think they could stop all this, you are racist bullshit.

  80. I just saw the funniest post.

    Dear Liberals,

    Please be advised that your Race Card account has been closed. This decision was based on your account history of excessive over-limit spending. Please destroy your card immediately as it will no longer be honored.

    Sincerely, The American People

  81. So we now have a mixed culture of the “manchurian candidate”, Kafka’s “the trial”, and Orwell’s “1984.”

  82. Mrs. Smith, I have a Quarter horse and a Arabian, they are both retired. I am too old to ride them but love to watch them in the pasture.

  83. Its just so good, i might print a few of those up like legitimate bills and post them into Acorn and other deserving offices.

  84. Charlie Gibson opened with “For years the Republicans have targeted this group” ( ACORN). Mind control per George Soros!

  85. Jimmy Carter lost me forever when he did not support the votes being counted for Florida and Michigan…he can go all over the world making sure the votes are counted in elections everywhere…third countries, etc…

    but in our own country, in the democratic party, a former democratic president did not believe the votes should be counted in two states and democratic primaries…

    …that says it all…all credibility gone…

  86. Jim Carter, might be a great man in many ways, but he is a loser, and he proved that even more when he did not stand up for democracy.

  87. Wasn’t Waters a good Hillary supporter for a good while?

    Maybe she was entrapped by the media. Maybe they were talking about a few fringy people and then they quote her as though she were talking about the whole crowd.

  88. Maxine waters has drunk way too much koolade. I think she knows exactly what she’ saying and so do all the other people screaming racist, especially the AA’s.

    But what they DON’T seem to know is this is all going to end very badly – for them.

    Yes, MOP, the race card is overdrawn and it’s the ‘minorities’ who are going to have to pay. You can only call everyone else ‘racist’ for so long before even uttering those words makes the speaker ‘racist’ as well and that, IMHO, is exactly what’ s happening now.

  89. sadly, turndownobama, there are times when really great people who many of us have admired and loved, seem to lose their common sense because they must continue the “talking points”…

    Jehmu Green was the democratic strategist I was trying to remember over the weekend who was spewing total nonsense – way over the top nonsense- about the protestors on cable news….

    that broke my heart…she was a strong Hillary supporter who switched to O when Hill dropped out…she is a smart, likeable and I thought an honest, credible person…but frankly when i heard her calling all the protestors sheep and “lemmings”, all kinds of very demeaning and insulting things like that…just because they went out to protest…like progressives used to really believe in … so it is ok for lefties to protest, but anyone else is a racist for stating their opinions and protesting…
    that was very disappointing…

    and like I said, all the while simultaneously…O is giving a rally where he was acting like a manic, hyperactive sports coach and everyone yells and claps on cue with staged, manufactured and printed signs,…now that is robotic and sheep like…

    double standard??? hypocrisy!!!

  90. ROTF!!!!!

    Now Reid is breaking rank and saying he won’t support the Baucus Bill.

    “Let me be very clear, I will not bring a health insurance reform bill to the Senate floor that is not good for Nevada.”

  91. s,

    Do you have a link to that maniacal BO speech? I missed it but the pic on Drudge that day of Bo with his mouth open, scowling, frowning, was way over the top so I’d be curious to hear what words went with that expression.

  92. Are the dominos falling?

    Reid, Snowe and Rockefeller all said today they can’t support current HRC legislation.

    Pawlenty amd Schwarzenagger are calling for Acorn investigations.

    Andrew Cuomo has already started an investigation in NY.

    Waters, Cryburn, the black caucus and the entire BM are calling everyone who doesn’t agree with bozo policies racist.

    The guy who threw the shoe at Bush was killed today, allegedly coz he was suspected of having a grenade. (I don’t know why but somehow that seems to fit with the theme)

    Carter’s under the bus.
    “The president does not believe that — that the criticism comes based on the color of his skin,” Gibbs said. “We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be undertaken by this administration and previous administrations to stabilize our financial system, to ensure viability of our domestic auto industry.”…

  95. birdgal,

    Yup and I’ve read he’s way behind in Nevada, now.

    Confloyd,

    You have donkeys? They are so cute. Are they as smart as mules?

  96. S,

    Yeah, Jemu Greene used to be civil, logical and coherent.

  99. OMG!

    “The only thing keeping whitey going all KKK is rebuking Joe Wilson.”
    From an NQ poster. Those weren’t Johnson’s exact words. Here they are.

    That’s according to Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., who said Tuesday “that people will be putting on “white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the countryside” if emerging racist attitudes, which he says were subtly supported by Wilson, are not rebuked. He said Wilson must be disciplined as an example.”

    I know- You have to ask yourself, where are the adults?

  104. I think that obama has made it fashionable for to use the race card for everything. The dims and AAs who got him in are power crazy, power hungry, and think they are invincible.

  105. I have one mexican donkey, the other have that cross on their withers so they must be sicilian. I have 2 greys and 2 grey and white paints. The youngest one is a grey and white paint. They are so funny looking when they are born, they look like oversized Texas jackrabbits with those ears. They are all ginnys.

    My Quarter horse is a double bred Skipper W, he is a beautiful sorrel with strawberry mane and tail with four full stockings and a full blaze face. In otherwards he has lots of chrome. I have had him since he was two and I rode him in Western Pleasure, he has a beautiful rockin horse gallop. He has quiet a personality too.

    The Arab was my youngest daughters horse and they both turned 27 this year.

  106. confloyd:

    I would say, the two gray and white paints are pretty exotic. In the east, the Sicilians are the most popular. Your QH is well bred Skipper top and bottom. The Skipper line is known for their intelligence, beauty, inborn manners and flashy, flashy, flashy, dudes. He would have that sought after tea-cup cantor as comfortable as sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch. Give them an extra carrot from me. XX

  107. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0909/Jewish_leader_rebukes_Rahm_on_language.html

    A Long Island Jewish newspaper reports that a prominent religious leader chided White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel in a speech last Tuesday at a local synagogue.

    “They all say he’s a foul-mouthed person and as a Jew, a menuval [a disgusting person],” Orthodox Union President Stephen Savitsky said, according to The Jewish Star. “I find it offensive. He’s a mishneh l’melech [advisor to a king], the language he uses… I think it’s very unbecoming as a Jewish person.”

    Savitsky said, via email, that he had been misquoted, and that he did not use the term “menuvel.”

    His actual quote, he said, was less biting, though still disapproving: “It has been broadly reported in the media that Emanuel uses foul words and, from a religious Jewish point of view, that is unbecoming for anyone, let alone an adviser to the president (mishneh l’melech),” Savitsky said he told the audience.

    By his account, “there were questions about Rahm Emanuel and in the course of the discussion, [Savitsky] was asked whether Emanuel is a ‘self hating Jew’ and [he] rebutted that charge flatly.” He mentioned that his group was welcomed “graciously” at the White House yesterday.

    The Jewish Star’s publisher and editor-in-chief, Mayer Fertig, said he paper “absolutely” stands by the quote, and added that Savitsky had asked before publication that it be omitted, but not disputed its accuracy.

    Emanuel, in any case, has not shown any embarassment about his language, which is famous to the point of caricature. He reportedly keeps in his office a nameplate reading, “Undersecretary for Go F*** Yourself.”

  108. Biden has a B.O. problem – he’s a “skunk”.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27211.html

    Asked by POLITICO for an assessment of his vice president, Obama cited Biden’s candor as the attribute he values most.

    “The best thing about Joe is that when we get everybody together, he really forces people to think and defend their positions, to look at things from every angle, and that is very valuable for me,” the president said in response to questions submitted by POLITICO. “I also know, when he gives me his advice, he gives it to me straight.”

    Biden “is always prepared to be the skunk at the family picnic to make sure we are as intellectually honest as possible,” said one senior aide.

  109. Mrs. Smith, I been riding since I was 5, but I just can’t afford to get hurt nowadays. I quit riding a few years ago. I loved the competition in Western Pleasure, but never did any English. I could have rode that way when I was young, but as I got older I guess I lost some of my balance and never felt comfortable in an English saddle. BTW, I used to rope, breakaway only, because I always felt too sorry for the calf. Roping is absolutely the most fun I ever had on a horse. I also rode barrels and have the scars to prove it, but only did that when I was young and was into speed. I even did drag racing with my husband. That was a hoot too. Horses will always be my first love though. Don’t tell anyone but I also went thru a motorcycle stage and all of these experiences were with my husband of 43 years. I had my big motorcycle. LOL!! If only I were young again.

    confloyd, my own horse was a Nasrullah bred TB/QH X- Sorrel w/4wht sox and a blaze. He was handsome. You could barely hear his footfalls. He moved like he was floating on a cloud. He was bred to be a Racing QH but untrainable (too high strung) to break from the gate. I bought him one winter from Cecil White in Joplin, MO. At the time, Mr White had taken over the Owens Bros horse sales.

    My youngest was the western rider. He rode W-Pleasure as well. He did the break away calf roping and Team Penning- His horse was quick on the trigger. A big round buckskin QH named Louie.

    Where I live, the SPCA doesn’t allow anything but break-away roping for the reason you mentioned.

  113. Too funny- Admin… The classic, National Velvet, Liz Taylor’s by far best movie was my favorite.. And yes, my horse looked like the PI! 🙂

  114. Thats too bad, all those great stars will be missed!

    Mrs. Smith you horse sounds beautiful. Everyone tells me I should sell my horses because I no longer ride them. I believe they have earned their retirement, too bad this administration and others don’t feel the same way as I do about us. The rethugs constantly complaining that SS is a entitlement. Well lets see all of their 401ks and their money disappear and see what they think them, huh???

    Horses are alot like people, confloyd. When they become aged and comfortable in the only home they’ve even known it is a traumatic experience for them when they are moved to a new home. They miss their buddies and the secure environment you’ve always provided for them because they may not be treated with the same care and attention you’ve given them. Their major worry is food. You know, when you open the barn doors in the morning the chorus of whinnies saying “me first” is heard welcoming the catering service with open hooves…

    Sad to say, when that happens, they give up and usually don’t live very long afterwards.

    What did Mary Travers die of? Anybody know??

    —————————————————-

    She died of leukemia. Apparently she had a bone marrow transplant in 1995 and did well until the past several months to year.

  120. She may have had the bone marrow transplant in 2005, not 1995:

    It was like a miracle,” Travers told The Associated Press in 2006. “I’m just feeling fabulous. What’s incredible is someone has given your life back. I’m out in the garden today. This time last year I was looking out a window at a hospital.” She also said she told the marrow donor “how incredibly grateful I was.”

    But by mid-2009, Yarrow told WTOP radio in Washington that her condition had worsened again and he thought she would no longer be able to perform.

    Travers lived for many years in Redding, Conn. She is survived by her husband, Ethan Robbins and daughters, Alicia and Erika.

  121. Race card losing its effectiveness (updated)
    Clarice Feldman
    In the past the race card was in fact a potent play for the left. I wonder if it hasn’t been played so often that it’s now thin enough for people to see through.

    The latest Rasmussen poll suggests that is the case:

    Twelve percent (12%) of voters nationwide believe that most opponents of President Obama’s health care reform plan are racist. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of voters disagree, and 21% are not sure.[snip] Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view.

    I expect that 12% are diehard Democrats who still think they elected the Messiah.

    Update from Rosslyn Smith

    With eighty-eight percent of Republicans and 78% of Independents rejecting the position that opposition to Obamacare is based on racial animosity, the left would do better to find another line of argument to promote their agenda. Claiming those in opposition are merely in denial over America’s election of Barack Obama to the presidency seems to be a monumental loser. Of course, like many an emotional crutch, yelling racist at one’s opponents can be a hard habit to break.

    A mid the detail at Rasmussen comes this tidbit about the composition of that 12%.
    Among Obama’s strongest supporters, those who Strongly Approve of his job performance, 35% say most opponents are racists, 32% disagree and 33% are not sure.

    Among African-American voters, 27% say most opponents are racist, 25% disagree, and 48% are not sure.

    That 48% is interesting. I was surprised at how high it was. It suggests that while many black voters are not completely trusting of whites, they are also very cautious about attributing racial motives to others.

    What makes the 48% number particularly significant is that many elected blacks show no such caution in attributing opposition to their agenda to racism. Could a segment of black voters be feeling as alienated from the likes of Congressmen Charles Rangel, Jim Clyburn and Hank Johnson as many of those who attended the Tea Parties are with their own Congressmen and women? With unemployment running very high among urban blacks, especially young black men, the tolerance for all this posturing by black Congressman may be wearing thin.

  122. Here’s a good one:

    The archbishop of Canterbury says that bankers should repent over their mistakes which led to a global financial crisis, but he fears that the financial industry is returning to business as usual.

    Archbishop Rowan Williams, spiritual leader of the global Anglican Communion, said in an interview Tuesday that he senses a feeling of “diffused resentment” against bankers for failing to accept responsibility and that the government should act to cap bonus payments.

    “There hasn’t been a feeling of closure about what happened last year,” Williams said in an interview on BBC television.

    “There hasn’t been what I would, as a Christian, call repentance. We haven’t heard people saying ‘well actually, no, we got it wrong and the whole fundamental principle on which we worked was unreal, was empty.'”

    Asked whether bonuses should have been capped, Williams said: “I would have said yes.”

    “I think that’s one of those things that feeds the … diffused resentment; that people are somehow getting away with a culture in which the connection between the worth of what you do and the reward you get becomes more obscure.”

    In prosperous countries such as Britain, concerns remain that banks have gone back to previous practices of excessive pay and bonuses. An expected regulation crackdown of the financial sector also hasn’t come through yet. These issues are likely to be a major topic when Group of 20 nations meet in Pittsburgh later this month

    Neetabug, what a great idea to have a reunion.

  126. wbboei,

    Lou Dobbs had two AA’s on to debate whether it was a race issue or not. Both refused to consider the idea that people were upset with policy only and could care less about race.

    I don’t know what is happening, but obama is splitting your nation down the middle with frightening implications.

  127. Confloyd: I had coffee tonight with a friend of mine who is Basque and has studied the history of La Raza which is yet another left wing radical organization which Mr. Soros is heavily funding. La Raza means the race and the motto of the organization is to be in the race is everything; to be outside the race is nothing. Discrimination.

    He told me that La Raza is a left wing radical organization which seeks to unite all Mexicans living in the United States into a left wing organization which seeks to reclaim a number of States for Mexico. Those states include California (only if they take Pelosi with them), Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and part of California.

    The theory behind this is that each of these states were originally part of Mexico. Texas was originally a Mexican state, and gringos were encouraged to move their if they paid taxes and converted to the Catholic faith. They made that commitment, later reneged and that is what sent Santa Ana north. So La Raza wants to make that case.

    In the case of California, that territory was acquired as a result of the Mexican American War, through the Battle of Guadaloupe. La Raza contends that this allegation was null and void because following Wilfield Scott’s victory at Chapultepec Castle we installed a puppet president who signed those lands over to the United States and La Raza wants take them back. Ditto the Gadsen Purchase.

    He went on to say that an organization like La Raza could not exist in Mexico because the country itself is really a collection of tribes, who live in different areas. Those in the north are more simpatico with the United States whereas those in the south tend to be anti American and Marxist.

    When Cortez came to Mexico he was met by those tribes. They regarded him as a liberator. Their problem was the Aztecs who were extracting tribute from the other tribes and practicing sacrificial rites. So they marched on the Aztec capital Technoticlan (sp) which is now Mexico City. That is how the Aztecs came to be conquered.

    One of the Conquistadors married an Aztec Princess and their son was sent to Spain to be educated. When he returned to Mexico, his grandmother explained the ritual which the other tribes were not keen on and he proceeded to record it for posterity.

    The Aztec Priest would go to the top of the pyramid. Humans to be sacrificed would sent up to the top of the pyramid. The priest would cut out their heart with an obsidion knife and drop the body to the base of the pyramid. It would be cut up and people would take it home to be boiled and then consumed. Molee sauce and hot peppers were not used.

    The question is why would Soros fund an organization one of whose goals is to dismember the United States? One possible answer is he wants to dismember the United States.

  128. Personally I think its mighty convenient that all of the sudden the President has opportunities to call those out for calling what is going on racism, West and Carter. Smoke and mirrors, he is the racist. He can’t change that. The only whites this man cares about are the one drinking the koolaid and he doesn’t seem to care about them or for that matter anyone who stands in his way of immortalizing himself.

  129. wbboei, Great story, gee can you imagine we had puppet Presidents for Mexico way back then. I think they can have California now, its broke, burning or shaking all the time and like you say they get to take the lovely Pooplosi with it and she’s already a Catholic.

    Soros wants to set himself up as Emperor of the World. He seems to think its his life’s work to disrupt other peoples lives because he believes he the smarter one to decide what is best for them and their country all the while fattening his pocket book. For him, this is like the game of RISK, which he accomplishes in real life.

  130. Lou Dobbs had two AA’s on to debate whether it was a race issue or not. Both refused to consider the idea that people were upset with policy only and could care less about race.

    I don’t know what is happening, but obama is splitting your nation down the middle with frightening implications.
    ———————————
    Thanks Jan. If the New York Times article cited by pm317 then Barack himself is playing the race card. It comes from the top. Professor Wilentz called the game on Barack after South Carolina. He called Barack “race man”. The subsequent words of Valerie Jarrett confirms that this is the conscious intentional strategy.

    Yesterday, I presented my sense of their strategy and my sense of how we fight it without dividing the country. The only thing I will say further is that black people in this country deserve better than Barack Obama. He made himself into a symbol for their hopes and dreams, but when he hit heavy winds as all presidents do he played the race card. What a terrible example for him to set for young children.

  131. Yep, he is setting a terrible example, but its done regularly in the work force. He learned it well while going to Chicago to learn to be a black man.

  132. The posters are sickening over at TM tonight. They all agree with Carter. I just wonder what they think would be happening right now if Hillary was POTUS. THe right would have the very same posters out there calling her a marxist communist, lesbian and anything else they can find to say. It is change people don’t like no matter whose peddling it. I can say however those posters, some were probably racist, some just were republicans who want small government and no entitlements. What the idiots can’t seem to understand it is our right under the constitution to protest if we don’t like what the government is doing. When they start using the race card it emboldens those who believe Obama is a communist trying to stop peace protests. If anyone had any sense they would know he nothing more than the 3rd term of their beloved POTUS Bush.

  134. Larouche is calling for a Pecora Commission. I read wikipedia and thats exactly what needs to be done. He was saying that Obama needs to be impeached, but has backed off that and now says he must keep him office in order to protect him and above have him under adult supervision at all time. LOL!! He seems to think the man is nuts!

    Gaza report

    By Haaretz Correspondents and Agencies , By Barak Ravid, Anshel Pfeffer, Jack Khoury and Avi Issacharoff

    Israel began fighting the diplomatic battle yesterday to prevent the Goldstone Commission report on Israel’s Cast Lead Operation in the Gaza Strip from being brought before the United Nations Security Council and from there to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where charges could be brought against Israeli officials involved in the military campaign. The report, compiled by a commission headed by former war crimes prosecutor Richard Goldstone, accuses both Israel and the Palestinians of actions amounting to war crimes during the December 27 to January 18 battle in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

    Last night a team lead by Foreign Ministry legal advisor Ehud Keinan, and which included representatives from the Justice Ministry and the military prosecutor’s office, delivered a preliminary analysis of the Goldstone Commission report to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avidgor Lieberman. Netanyahu also held consultations last night on the commission’s findings. “The goal is to avoid a slippery slope which would lead Israel to the International Criminal Court in The Hague,” a senior Israeli staffer said. Advertisement

    On the day after Yom Kippur, the UN Human Rights Council, which appointed Goldstone, will be convening in Geneva for a special session on the report. Foreign Ministry sources said yesterday that they expect Arab states will begin to prepare a draft resolution which will call for the report to be transferred to the UN Security Council. In a worst-case scenario, the Security Council could decide to transfer the matter to the International Criminal Court. Under such circumstances, the ICC could issue international arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials who were involved in Cast Lead.

    On the diplomatic front, following the report’s release, Netanyahu, Lieberman, President Shimon Peres and Defense Minister Ehud Barak will telephone many of their counterparts around the world. They will stress that the Goldstone report is one-sided, that it rewards terrorism and that it sets a precedent which will make it difficult for any country in the world to defend itself against terror. Israel’s diplomatic efforts will focus on the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France – but will also give priority to members of the European Union, because of their influence in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

    The senior Israeli leaders will ask their counterparts to express disagreement with the report and to oppose any use of it as the basis for anti-Israel resolutions at other international institutions. “It will be a long diplomatic and legal campaign,” said a senior Israeli staffer handling the Goldstone report. “We will involve our friends around the world, especially the United States, to prevent Israel’s isolation,” he said.

    The report, which is 574 pages long, and which was released yesterday at a news conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York at which Goldstone participated, contains harsh criticism of Israel of a nature and scope that surprised senior diplomats, including Israelis, who had anticipated condemnation of Israel but were astounded by the sweeping and unrestrained character of the criticism.

    “Exactly what we feared occurred,” Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gabriela Shalev told Haaretz yesterday. “The mandate of the Goldstone Commission,” she said, “was one-sided from the beginning and the initiative to establish the commission came from the UN Human Rights Council, which is known for regularly and routinely condemning Israel.”

    “We anticipated that the contents of the report would be slanted and one-sided, but we didn’t imagine that it would be so harsh and blunt,” she added.

    The Foreign Ministry will respond

    The Israel Defense Forces refused to respond yesterday to the Goldstone Commission report. The army has decided that the Foreign Ministry will respond to international criticism of the IDF’s conduct during Operation Cast Lead. Nonetheless, representatives from the IDF prosecutor’s office are participating in the ministry’s examination of the report, which details 36 specific incidents in which the army allegedly violated international law. Most of the incidents have already been examined by the IDF – within particular units which took part in the fighting, by the army prosecutor’s office, and through the five commissions set up on the instructions of the IDF Chief of Staff.

    Most of the investigations concluded that IDF forces followed orders and acted in accordance with international law, but it has not yet been determined if the IDF material gathered over the course of these investigations would be used to attempt to refute the Goldstone report. If the UN decides to transfer the Goldstone Commission finding to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, IDF officers could be summoned by the international court and even charged. Such a prospect would also affect their ability to travel abroad.

    Balad party chairman, Jamal Zahalka, sharply condemned Barak in light of the Goldstone Commission findings. “Ehud Barak [should be sent] to The Hague immediately,” he said. “The conclusion from the report,” he added, “is that [there should be] an international trial for those responsible for war crimes in Gaza starting with the defense minister, the IDF chief of staff, down to operational commanders, and those who gave them orders and instructions to hit civilian populations and essential infrastructure to make political gains, as the report said.”

    “It is not possible that someone who causes the death of more than 1,000 civilians will not pay the price,” Zahalka added. “The report proves the barbarity of the Israeli death machine, which is headed by a classical music aficionado who gives orders to kill civilians in cold blood. Behind war crimes are criminals who must be punished.”

    Hamas yesterday rejected the Goldstone report, which accused both Israel and Hamas of war crimes during Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip. Hamas spokesmen said the report was not fair. A representative of the extremist organization, Ismail Radwan, told Haaretz last night that the report was unbalanced and completely misrepresented reality.

    Radwan said the report should have called unequivocally for an international war crimes trial for senior Israeli officials. He added that Hamas does not accept attempts to downplay the responsibility of the “Zionist entity,” as he called Israel, or attempts to accuse Hamas. He claimed that Hamas had no intention of hurting civilians, but said the organization had the right to defend Palestinian civilians and oppose occupation. The group has denied using civilians to fire Qassam rockets or to provide cover from IDF forces. Hamas also adamantly denied allegations by human rights organizations that it had improperly used ambulances as a cover during the operation, or that it deliberately targeted civilians

  136. Since this President has taken over, all you hear is about how bad Israel is. It seems to be the whipping post of everyone from commentators on blogs, news media, ex-presidents. Its very scary how the world is beating up on Israel daily.

  137. One our largest employers here in East Texas went belly up and was purchased by a BRAZILLIAN company. They are hoping not to lose jobs. How many more of our businesses are being purchased by foreign countries??
    Go to the CFR website and find out how Brazil is turning into the breadbasket of the world with land, irrigation. They will be leading the world of exports of chicken, sugar and other stuff.
    Soros just bought a huge portion of Brazil’s offshore oil industry with the US taxpayers money.

    FOLKS, they are shipping more and more of our jobs out of the nation. We have always been the breadbasket of the world and now they are taking this away from us???WHY????

    I read about this yesterday. One thing that stood out for me was that Israel couldn’t believe that this report was so slanted. It doesn’t even mention all the missiles that have been launched at Israel thereby forcing them to defend themselves.

    Just once I would like to see obama side with them on this. I find the time of the release of this faulty report very suspect. obama via Mitchell is exerting very strong pressure to get Bibi to agree to a full year suspension of building in what the u.s. and his terrorist friends call “the settlements.” Bibi, so far, has only agreed to six months and refuses to consider splitting up Jerusalem, but Abas says he won’t be a part of any tri-lateral meetings (obama’s dream) unless it’s a year.

    Bibi is also upset that obama has given a definite 2 year date for finishing this up. He believes that this will limit and hamper the results. The Arabs though, especially Hamas and Syria are thrilled about the deadline and keep refering to it. They believe that it means they will get everything they want.

    Just viewed this infamous video.

    yeah, I noticed they showed SOS Clinton swigging on a bottle of beer during the interview trivializing the issue for discussion.

    Hillary ahead in the polls and popular vote, Obama 49 delegates behind to clinch the nomination.

    The woman pimping for Obama claiming Obama didn’t say: “Hillary should step down from the race” (but Obama’s campaign front men did and the DNC and the CBC threatening violence in the street if Obama isn’t the democratic nominee) isn’t important enough for discussion; lets just talk about Obama.

    That is video GOLD for the ages! Thanks for posting it-

    Interesting, there are those within the party lines, at least within my state, showing grass roots opposition. Where is Acorn when you need them?

    Jan, this is a major faux pas on the part of Obama’s campaign advisers.

    Good for us- bad move for them.

    The anger coming from the people will refocus itself on both Obama’s now..

    Michelle will be scowling 24/7 at the people’s reluctance to sacrifice and bear the pain of giving up luxurys, such as their homes and food for their families. While she and her husband hob-nob on vacations every 2 weeks and during the interim flying in “pizza” from their favorite Chicago pizza store for their Wednesday night soirées with Hollywood celebs and superstar athletes.

    I imagine the new meme when discussing the Obamas will go something like this:

    F-them and Racist… my donkey! (great bumperstickers.)..

    I prefer your take on it, Mrs. Smith.

  147. This Baucus Bill is downright scary!
    It MANDATES everyone to have insurance and if you don’t, then you will be FINED!
    WTF is going on??????
    I never had insurance until I started teaching. Prior to that, I couldn’t afford it but I was very healthy and didn’t feel the need for it.
    In the Baucus plan, not only will young healthy adults be forced to buy something they don’t need, but everyone who doesn’t sign up gets fined up to $3800!
    And one your income passes $80G you will be expected to pay 11% of your income in health insurance. I cannot believe any of these provisions are being seriously considered.

  148. Anger in Europe as Barack Obama ‘scraps missile defence shield’

    Reports that US President Barack Obama is to scrap plans to deploy a missile defence shield in Poland and the Czech Republic have provoked anger in Europe.

    September 17, 2009

    The Wall Street Journal reported that the US is to shelve the plan, which was first mooted by the Bush administration and has been a source of friction with Russia ever since. The move would be a cause of celebration in Moscow but of real concern to Eastern European countries which have looked to Washington for support against their former imperial master Russia. The US has said the shield is to guard against attacks by rogue states, such as Iran.

    The former Czech prime minister, Mirek Topolanek, said: “This is not good news for the Czech state, for Czech freedom and independence. It puts us in a position wherein we are not firmly anchored in terms of partnership, security and alliance, and that’s a certain threat.”

    The Polish deputy foreign minister, Andrzej Kremer, said that Warsaw had heard from different sources there were “serious chances” the anti-missile system would not be deployed.

    Russian officials said they did not want to immediately comment on media reports that cited unidentified US officials. “We are waiting for confirmation of these reports,” a source in Russia’s foreign ministry said. “In principle, such a development would help the development of our bilateral relations with the United States.”

    The newspaper said the decision followed a review ordered by Mr Obama. He called the current Czech prime minister Jan Fischer on Wednesday night to discuss missile defence.

    Mr Obama, who is due to meet the Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev next week in New York, says he wants better ties with Russia so that the two former Cold War foes can co-operate on Afghanistan and reduce the risk of nuclear proliferation.
    He may also have been reassured by Moscow’s growing willingness to discuss further sanctions against Iran.

  149. Well there goes bambi’s goal of sainthood. Netanyahu knows that there is no way the Palestinians and their buddies want anything but the full anihilation of the Jews and total takeover of Israel. This deal is dead in the water…at least for now.

    Israeli PM extends olive branch with tough hands

    By Deng Yushan, Zvi Amitai

    JERUSALEM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) – Israel is willing to live with a Palestinian state at its side, but the neighbor must recognize Israel as a Jewish national state and pose no danger to his country, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview published Thursday.

    In his first formal interview given to local media since returning to premiership five months ago, Netanyahu also ruled out the possibility to accept the much-publicized U.S. demand for a total freeze of settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and poured cold water on a much-anticipated tripartite meeting between him, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and U.S. President Barack Obama. Meanwhile, Netanyahu said that he believes in regional peace and cherishes a dream that his country will prosper in peaceful coexistence with her neighbors.

    YES TO UNTHREATENING PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD

    In line with his major diplomatic policy speech in July, when he performed an about-face by endorsing the two-state principle, Netanyahu reiterated in the latest interview the need for a path to Israeli-Palestinian coexistence. While noting an “incontrovertible” connection of the Jewish people to local land, he said, “but alongside that, there are also a million and a half Palestinians who live here, and a solution must be found for coexistence.” “I always said that our desire is to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state that will endanger our existence. In the final arrangement, the Palestinians will have the opportunity to rule over themselves,” he added.

    In an apparently leftward move, the leading ring-winger recognized the need to cede some land currently under Israel’s control in order to establish a Palestinian state. However, he rejected proposals to retreat to the pre-1967 borderline or use the separation fence as the borderline, both of which would leave some existing settlements to the Palestinian side. “The land is already divided. The question is how we also divide it in territorial terms,” said Netanyahu, who promised during his election campaign not to evacuate settlements authorized by the Israeli government, but now appeared to dodge questions in this concern.

    Meanwhile, the Israeli leader, who in his July address sketched out a demilitarized Palestinian state, reemphasized that the establishment of a Palestinian state must not jeopardize Israel’s security, and that the new state must recognize the Jewish nature of Israel. “This will be a test for the Palestinians that the responsibility lies with them. There is no reason for Israel to recognize a Palestinian national state without their recognizing Israel as a Jewish national state. There is no reason for the Palestinians not to announce that the signing of the peace agreement also constitutes a commitment to the end of the conflict,” said Netanyahu.

    NO TO TOTAL SETTLEMENT FREEZE

    The interview, published on the eve of the Jewish New Year’s Day, came against the backdrop of frenzied U.S. efforts to wrangle a total freeze of settlement activities out of Israel as a precursor to a possible resumption of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
    Yet following two meetings with Obama’s special envoy George Mitchell on Tuesday and Wednesday and ahead of another one on Friday, the Israeli leader gave no sign of backing down, sticking to a partial moratorium from a limited period.

    Construction will continue in settlements for about 2,500 housing units already under construction and some 450 homes just approved last week, and “public buildings will continue to be built as usual,” said Netanyahu. Any moratorium deal would also very likely exclude East Jerusalem, which Israel says is an inseparable part of its capital and which Netanyahu recently stressed “is not a settlement.” Yet the Palestinians want this section of the holy city, captured by Israel in the 1967 war, to be the capital of their future state.

    A failure to reach a settlement deal with the United States, Israel’s top ally, would apparently hinder Obama’s bid to hold a three-way summit with Netanyahu and Abbas on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next week, when they are widely expected to officially kick start the peace process that has bogged down for a year. “It is not important if a meeting will be held or not. I did not request a meeting. The most important thing, in my mind, is the actual content of the process that we are interested in starting,” said Netanyahu. “We need a peace arrangement that is based upon a declaration of the end of the conflict and that will not endanger our security.”

    Meanwhile, Netanyahu fired back at accusations that his country is impeding peace efforts on the settlement issue, claiming that the lack of progress is “because of the (Palestinians’) unwillingness to recognize the state of Israel.”

    As to the Israeli-U.S. ties, which have been noticeably strained over the settlement issue, the Israeli premier highlighted the historical and strategic alliance between the two countries, saying that “we are allies, and Obama expressly stated to me in the course of my meeting with him that he is committed, as were his predecessors, to Israel’s security. But nevertheless, even allies sometimes have differences of opinion.” “There are two new leaders, Obama and myself, and naturally it takes time to learn before we can arrive at agreements,” he added.

    A DREAM TO STRIVE FOR

    Turning to Iran, Netanyahu called upon the international community to impose harsher sanctions upon the Islamic republic, Israel’s major perceived security threat.
    Israel and the United States have been accusing Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the guise of civilian programs. While Washington and Europe have carried out an engagement approach, Israel has stressed that it does not rule out the possibility to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. “The dialogue that the United States wants to hold with Iran is one thing, while the actions that need to be done are a different thing entirely. We must act on both simultaneously,” he said. “We are making the United States aware of our standpoint through a number of diplomatic channels and through a number of means.”

    In a related development, Netanyahu allegedly paid a secret visit to Moscow two weeks ago for talks on the Iranian nuclear issue and other security subjects. During the interview, he refused to confirm the rumored trip, but noted Russia’s influence on the region and said his government is “using all of the ways possible in order to express our standpoint to them.”

    In face of such a conflicts-prone region, many Israelis feel drained of hope for peace. Commenting on Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s recent remarks that he did not believe any peace agreement would be reached with the Palestinians in the next 16 years, Netanyahu said that peace would come faster through a right way. “The correct approach is to present the conditions which are necessary for us in order for a real peace to exist. If the Palestinians will respond to that, it will be possible to shorten the time frame in which peace will be achieved,” he said. “I believe in regional peace, coming to peace with the Arab states while they recognize the right of Israel to exist and are ready for normalization with Israel,” added the Israeli leader. “My dream is that Israel will become an economic and technological superpower that lives in peace with her neighbors.” “In order to achieve this, we must work along two channels: Arab recognition of the State of Israel as the national state of the Jewish people, and maintenance of the security arrangements while establishing the Palestinian state,” he said.

    Is there any promise he has made (other than to Soros, et. al.) that Mr. Obama has not broken? Yet he wants us to listen to his speeches so he can make more promises. Lenin had him pegged when he said this:”promises are like piecrusts–made to be broken.”

  152. The other thing my friend noted is that much of the gloomy news on the US economy is coming out of Yahoo, and Telegraph UK. The latter is a Tory publication which is now owned by a Soros friend and confidente. He asked me if I knew who owns Yahoo, and I told him I did not. It may be that Soros or his people have invested there. He owns a number of media sources, and was a major contributor to blue state digital new media which the Obama campaign. The patterns here are not conclusive but are sufficient to warrant further inquiry. When he tanked the British Pound, it was devastating for the middle and lower classes. My friend believes Soros was behind this crash, but believing it and proving it are two different things. No one should make that charge without conclusive evidence.

    Obama’s Presidency Isn’t Too Big to Fail

    A president has only so much capital to expend, both in tax dollars and public tolerance, and Barack Obama is dangerously overdrawn. He has tried to have it all on three fronts, and his administration is in serious danger of going bankrupt. He has blundered into a deepening quagmire in Afghanistan, has continued the Bush policy of buying off Wall Street hustlers instead of confronting them and is now on the cusp of bargaining away the so-called public option, the reform component of his health care program.

    Robert Scheer: The way he’s headed on Afghanistan, Barack Obama is threatened with a quagmire that could bog down his presidency.

    Those are not happy sentences to write for one who is still on the e-mail list of campaign supporters urged to back the president in the face of attacks that are stupidly small-minded. But to remain silent about his errors, just because most of his critics are so vile, is hardly an example of constructive concern for him or the country.

    Yes, Obama was presented with a series of crises not of his making but for which he is now being held accountable. He is not a “socialist” who grew the federal budget to astronomical proportions. That is the legacy of George W. Bush, who raised the military budget to its highest level since World War II despite the end of the Cold War and the lack of a formidable military opponent– a legacy of debt compounded by Bush’s decision to first ignore the banking meltdown and then to engage in a welfare-for-Wall-Street bailout. And it was Bush who gave the pharmaceutical companies the gift of a very expensive government subsidy for seniors’ drugs.

    But what is nerve-racking about Obama is that even though he campaigned against Bush’s follies he has now embraced them. He hasn’t yet managed to significantly reduce the U.S. obligation in Iraq and has committed to making a potentially costlier error by ratcheting up America’s “nation-building” role in Afghanistan.

    Just as he was burdened with the Afghanistan situation, Obama was saddled with a banking crisis he didn’t cause, and the worst that can be said of his attempted solutions to the financial mess is that they were inherited from Bush Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. But Obama, who raised questions before his election about the propriety of a plan that would rescue the banks but ignore the plight of ordinary folks, has adopted that very approach as president. He elevated Lawrence Summers and Timothy Geithner, the two Democrats most closely aligned with Paulson’s policy, to top positions in his government.

    Obama’s proposed new regulations, while containing some kind words about better informing consumers, do not portend any breakup of the “too big to fail companies” whose problems were permitted to fester by previous deregulatory measures. His answer is to increase the regulatory capacities of the Federal Reserve, which failed to use its already existing and considerable powers to avoid the debacle. The promise is that next time the Fed will behave better. As Obama put it Monday, “So our plan would put the cost of a firm’s failures on those who own its stock and loaned it money. And if taxpayers ever had to step in again to prevent a second Great Depression, the financial industry will have to pay the taxpayer back every cent.”

    Why not now? And why has he accepted the Wall Street line that all this represents a “collective failure,” as if the con men and the conned had equal responsibility? According to Obama, “It was a failure of responsibility that led homebuyers and derivative traders alike to take reckless risks that they couldn’t afford to take. It was a collective failure of responsibility in Washington, on Wall Street, and across America that led to the near-collapse of our financial system one year ago.”

    Hogwash. The chicanery of the financial system, securitizing highly suspect mortgages, was codified into laws that made the hustle legal.

    That insistence on equating the swindled with the swindlers is also what is wrong with the evolving health care reform plan. The assumption from the beginning, when Obama reached out to insurance companies to come up with a deal, was that they had the interest of their customers at heart. They don’t, and it is the purpose of government regulation in the area of health as well as banking to even the scales between the powerful corporations and the consumers from whom they profit. That is the purpose of a public option worth its name.

    Without a government program as a check on medical costs, Obama will end up with a variant of the Massachusetts program, one that forces consumers to sign up with private insurers and costs 33 percent more than the national average. He will have furthered the Bush legacy of cultivating an ever more expensive big government without improving how the people are served.

    ——————————————-
    Oh but a meeting is important if your only goal is to produce a photo op with a picture of Obama in the middle with his stern look, and Bibbi and Abbas on either side, with the caption Obama Gives Tough Love To Achieve Peace.

    Of course, that will never happen but I am confident that the New York Times can achieve that effect with Adobe Photoshop, and fabricate a story riddled with lies and half truths to support it. Where there is a will there is a way.

    For naiive people like me, who think peace processes should be about peace and security rather than crude photo-ops for a “jackass”, Bibi’s words make eminent good sense. Also he is wise to bambi.

  155. “Yes, Obama was presented with a series of crises not of his making but for which he is now being held accountable.”

    ——————————

    I get so tired of every critique of obama being prefaced with the above statement. Yes he inherited a few crises i.e. Afghanistan and the economy. But he has gone ahead and multiplied the issues to the extent that there are those now saying he is bankrupting the country. He made promises about withdrawal of troops knowing he couldn’t keep them. Empty promises to get him elected. And as wbboei stated earlier, he has broken almost every election promise he has ever made. Given time he will probably break many more.

  156. It’s not racism, it’s being an American

    Charges of racism are among the most serious that can be made in America because of our nation’s history on race relations. There is no doubt America has come a long way in healing past wounds, but there is certainly more to be done. That is why I am outraged that Democrats today, including former president Jimmy Carter, are injecting race into the debate over President Obama’s policies.

    Voicing opposition to the president’s policy proposals is not being a racist. It is being an American. Such assertions by leaders of the Democratic Party are a pathetic attempt to shift attention away from the president’s wildly unpopular government-run health care plan that the American people simply oppose. Injecting race into the debate over critical issues facing American families does not create jobs, reform our health care system or reduce the growing deficit. It only divides Americans rather than uniting us to find solutions to challenges facing our nation.

    This summer, Americans had an opportunity to witness the miracle of our political system. All over the country ordinary American men and women, concerned about the Democrats’ policies coming out of Washington, took a stand and expressed their opposition. It was grassroots American political activism at its finest. Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike voiced their opinions in public forums to public officials. It was a shining example of how our Republic was designed to function. This activism has not faded with the summer sun. Last week Americans from all walks of life flooded Washington D.C. and continued their public opposition to President Obama’s government-run experiments.

    As an African American, I know what racism is and that is not racism. Just like the millions of African Americans in this country who have fought and overcome on their way to the American dream, I have experienced racism firsthand. It is something you never forget. The civil rights movement helped to elevate the nation’s conscience on matters of race. Proud Americans, black and white, fought for too long and too hard to have the claim of racism be used in such a cavalier fashion. Blind charges of racism, where none exist, not only are an affront to those who have suffered the effects of racism, but it weakens our efforts to address true acts of racism and makes them more difficult to overcome.

    It is becoming increasingly clear that some in the Democratic Party need a serious history lesson. Slavery was racist, Jim Crow laws were racist, segregation was racist – opposing a radical political agenda is not. Americans of all races and political mindsets applauded the election of America’s first African American president; it was a proud moment for every American. But our pride in electing an African-American president does not override our right to disagree with President Obama’s policies. It is obvious certain politicians are attempting to exploit racial anger to make up for their own policy failings.

    Americans have an obligation to stand up for what they believe in and that is exactly what they are doing. As a whole, Americans are exercising their First Amendment rights and are rejecting President Obama’s massive government-run experiments. They want common sense reforms and economic security. These principles are not found in the Democrats’ health care plans. The Democrats’ health care plan is the antithesis of these ideals.

    President Obama’s campaign promised to move America beyond the bitter divides of yesterday. But for leaders of the Democrat Party to characterize Americans’ disapproval of the president’s policies as being based on race is an outrage and troubling sign about the lengths Democrats will go to disparage all who disagree with them. Playing the race card shows that Democrats are willing to deal from the bottom of the deck. Our political system has no place for this. President Obama should join me in calling for an end to these attacks by members of his party and a renewal of honest debate.

    would they be even remotely concerned if the moans and whining were about sexism?

  157. When you take a job, you inherit the history, or baggage. It is what you do with the situation that counts, and OO has really done very little. Oh, but he has only had close to 9 months.

    He will never have a better 9 months than he has had now. The American People in today’s instant computer world, expect results, especially when the stars are aligned. All we have gotten is a discussion of what a difficult situation he has been place in.

    He signed up for it, said he could function from Day One, and HE HAS FAILED. A health reform bill without PUBLIC OPTION will be seen for what it is, a suck up to the insurance people, and a failure to support the will of all the people. Yet we allowed him to take office by ignoring the will of the people in the Primary. I am sure he and the DIMS could care less about the LITTLE PEOPLE.

    What a turn around, when the Dims promoted themselves as the party of the Little People. Anyone hearing anything from the women’s groups lately????? or did they fold in and die.

  158. This was on at the end of CNN Lou Dobbs yesterday…

    DOBBS: A new Heritage Foundation study finds that the Obama administration will spend more than $10 trillion on welfare programs over the next decade. The Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector, the co-author of the study, calls the president’s approach a plan for bankruptcy.

    Robert Rector joins us now.

    Robert, good to have you with us. I mean this is — it’s an extraordinary amount of money and why is it not in plain view as we look at the budget numbers and what is being proposed?

    ROBERT RECTOR, SR. RESEARCH FELLOW, HERITAGE FOUNDATION: This spending is largely hidden, because when you deal with similar programs like Medicare and Social Security, they are a single item in the federal budget. But when you look at aid to the poor, and that’s cash, food, housing and medical care for poor and very low income people, it’s spread out among 71 different programs and 14 different departments and agencies.

    So you have to literally go through thousands of pages in the budget to uncover how much we spend on poor people. But when you do that exercise, what you find is that this year, we’re going to spend about $800 billion on poor and low-income people. And it’s about 5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. It’s the third largest category of government spending.

    Social security and Medicare come first, then public education, then comes aid to the poor or means tested welfare. And we’re now at a record level. Obama is going to increase it by about $300 billion over the next two years. But the increase isn’t temporary. It just goes on and on and on.

    DOBBS: Did you say $300 billion over two years?

    RECTOR: Yes, that’s the increase over the next two years alone. But then it doesn’t go down after the recession. It continues to remain high. Within a few years, we’re going to be spending $1 trillion a year on this stuff. And I’m not making these numbers up. They come right out of Obama’s budgets.

    And it’s an astonishing thing. We are marching towards national bankruptcy. He’s piling on half a trillion dollars of debt a year for the foreseeable future. We’re basically mortgaging our children’s future in order to spread the wealth today. And spreading the wealth might be a good idea, but we ought to at least be honest before we start doing even more of it about how much we’re currently spending on the poor.

    Our current spending amounts to about $18,000 on assistance to the poor for every single poor person in the United States, every single year.

    DOBBS: Say that number again. How much per person? RECTOR: It’s $18,000 for each poor person. That’s the total amount of spending on means tested welfare. Now you could even look at it more broadly, because some of the spending goes to people that are low income, but not necessarily poor. But even if you were to take that, if you were to take this money and spread it out through the bottom one-third of the U.S. population, everybody in the bottom third gets part of this money.

    It comes to $28,000 for each family of four down in that bottom third of the population. It’s a huge amount of expenditure and it’s largely untouched, undescribed. When the Census Bureau talks about inequality or measures poverty, guess what? Of this $800 billion of spending, not a — virtually none of it is counted.

    When we talk about how much the poor have and how much the rich have, we don’t count the welfare state. They pretend that this doesn’t exist. That’s an insane way to conduct a discussion about public policy.

    DOBBS: Insane and insane that we don’t have a discussion of what is being spent in total. $10.3 trillion over the next decade. That is absolutely staggering. $28,000 per family in the lower third of income in this country per year. Again, staggering. And yet, poverty persists.

    And as you say, there is no acknowledgement of the money that is being redistributed by the federal government to these low-income people in this country.

    RECTOR: What you find when you really examine the living standards of lower income people is that they’re doing much better than normal dialogue puts on. For example, if you look at families that census identifies as poor, they have cable and satellite television. What the problem with a lot of this spending…

  159. Obama operatives are played the race card in the primary, and he claimed plausible deniability. But it was part of his strategy and he authorized it, as revealed by the story posted by pm 317 yesterday re. Jarrett (the Race Card Czar), and confirmed by the article Race Man by Professor Sean Wiltenz. But when Obama was asked he denied. Today, with his heath care initiative in peril and his presidency at risk Obama operatives play the race card again, induce a senile ex US President to echo it, and once again what we get from Obama is plausible deniability. Today the NYT refutes its own prior story by claiming that Obama is steering clear of the racism issue. Nobody believes him.

    There is your argument to independent voters.

  161. Except that obama always waits too long to apologize. He does it for effect. He did it repeated when both he and his handlers attacked Hillary during the campaign. After extreme damage was done, he stepped in like a royal and bleated away. He is doing this with the race issue, letting it fester and cause as much damage as possible. Then he will part the waters and walk across them like a savior.

  162. basil, mandates in Bacchus plan should alarm the youth who voted for him. But they are too stupid to learn what is in this bill. Mandates work well when there is a strong public option or a single-payer govt run plan option that is run efficiently so that those who can’t afford are helped to participate in a way that does not burden them. I don’t buy the argument about all developed nations have it, Canada, blah, blah.. They are all small countries with about less than half the population of the US. A govt mandate is also un-American. Some people have compared it to buying license if you own a vehicle — when I was discussing this with my husband he asked me why a similar mandate should work — and I said because we were born (ha!). No, that was a joke but individual choice and responsibility are bled into the American way and a govt run system for all will never work (it will work as a safety net for vulnerable population but not as a mandated service for all.)

    Somehow the concept of individual rights and responsibilities, freedom and choice are better understood by conservatives intuitively than the liberals. It is quite interesting to watch that dichotomy in this country. I know of a jewish couple who are are atheists and the most open minded couple I know — I used to wonder why they voted republican all the time but I now understand.

    “Confloyd: I had coffee tonight with a friend of mine who is Basque and has studied the history of La Raza which is yet another left wing radical organization which Mr. Soros is heavily funding. La Raza means the race and the motto of the organization is to be in the race is everything; to be outside the race is nothing. Discrimination.”

    “He told me that La Raza is a left wing radical organization which seeks to unite all Mexicans living in the United States into a left wing organization which seeks to reclaim a number of States for Mexico. Those states include California (only if they take Pelosi with them), Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and part of California.”

    “The theory behind this is that each of these states were originally part of Mexico. Texas was originally a Mexican state, and gringos were encouraged to move their if they paid taxes and converted to the Catholic faith. They made that commitment, later reneged and that is what sent Santa Ana north. So La Raza wants to make that case.”

    “The question is why would Soros fund an organization one of whose goals is to dismember the United States? One possible answer is he wants to dismember the United States.”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I’ve got it, wbb- The ANSWER IS:
    Soros intends on using this argument, taking it to the limit if necessary, through the International Courts system if he has to—- pretending a peaceful settlement and settling for adding Mexico to the geography of the US as the“North American Union” where there are NO borders between Mexico and the US.
    Which has been his end game all along.
    The US remains intact but merged with Mexico as The North American Union The sister hemisphere to the European Union.
    Soros next battle or proposal will be for Canada (under peaceful circumstances ) to join the North American Union as part of the bigger picture of the NAFTA, the Global Union ultimately joining with the European Union in the Global Economy in “The New Order.”
    This in turn will trigger the biggest and best reason for the permanent dissolution of the US Dollar as current global currency. (which is his secondary goal)
    When the US Dollar is replaced with the “Peso-dollar” or “NA Dollar” whatever name they have chosen for the new form of currency. This move will relegate anyone in the US holding US Dollars at home in the form of CA$H, as a safeguard if the Banks unexpectedly shut down because of bankruptcy, INSTANTLY INDIGENT…holding money as worthless as Confederate dollars. The stranglehold on Americans will be complete and final. If this malevolent plan is allowed to happen, George Soros’s plan will be complete, making our United States part of the Soros Empire. We will in essence be in servitude forever to the Soros Empire as will the children of our future generations.
    This is the entire reason for Soros supporting a candidate who is corruptible, lacks allegiance to America. And the principles by which we as Americans understand as the reason the Founding Father’s insisted on the “Natural Born Citizenship clause.” As a pre-requisite for the candidacy for US President.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if the Founding Fathers played this scenario out to the end in a mock setting elucidating scenarios of the ultimate consequences if a Foreign Born President is made eligible as a US presidential candidate.
    At the time of Thomas Jefferson, the biggest threats to the United States of America were England and France. (The fact is this threat has taken on a demision the Founders could never imagine. A private citizen such as George Soros substituting himself as a hostile country with untold limitless mega-wealth and 60 yrs of time buying and duping people into joining his hidden intentions/scheme.
    Here is a paraphrased presentation of Jefferson’s fear if a Frenchman were elected to the US presidency.
    Jefferson felt the foreign born’s allegiance would be to his native country. He would be easy prey for his country to ultimately sabotage America to be part of France… We remember how the Iron Curtain countries used relatives as pawns to control people out of their reach.
    Just as Napolean tried claiming Louisiana for France. Jefferson feared with good reason the Loss of (our) US Sovereign Independence as a country, and the loss of our Freedom and Democracy specified in the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights. All that the Founders fought to construct and protect with those documents would be lost due to sabotage from a Foreign Born President sitting in the seat of power of the US Government.
    Soros is making his bid as a shadow government (controller) hiding behind a 21st century (corrupt) US Administration to accomplish this means to an end… Exactly what Thomas Jefferson feared would/could happen if a US President is Foreign Born is happening now under our very noses.
    It all makes sense now why Obama is aligning himself with Rogue Dictators through the auspices of the US presidency. When he is president of the UN the U.S.of A will no longer exist. We will be called the “North American Union” and the forces of the rogue dictatorships, ie.. Kenya, Libia, Lyberia, Muslim Countries, Venezuela, N.Korea will be employees as the “muscle” and gatekeepers keeping former US Citizens in line with the New World Order.
    h… canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/14700 (source)
    “The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States.”—George Soros
    “The “open society” basically refers to a “test and evaluate” approach to social engineering. Regarding “open society” Roy Childs writes, “Since the Second World War, most of the Western democracies have followed Popper’s advice about piecemeal social engineering and democratic social reform, and it has gotten them into a grand mess.” (snip)
    “Richard Poe writes, “Soros’ private philanthropy, totaling nearly $5 billion, continues undermining America’s traditional Western values. His giving has provided funding of abortion rights, atheism, drug legalization, sex education, euthanasia, feminism, gun control, globalization, mass immigration, gay marriage and other radical experiments
    in social engineering.” (snip)
    and feminist pro-abortion organizing (source: h… w… capitalresearch.org/pubs/pdf/x3770435801.pdf)
    Lumping policy reform together as total cover for the actual agenda of North American Global Union which will totally destroy the dollar and give rise to the talked about new cirrency.
    “In 2000, OSI made grants of close to $2 million to support Tides’ work on immigration and drug policy as well as to curb
    gun ownership”
    ==================================
    In 1979 Soros established the Open Society Institute (OSI), which serves as the flagship of a network of Soros foundations that donate tens of millions of dollars each year to a wide array of individuals and organizations that share the founder’s agendas. Those agendas can be summarized as follows: (source: h… w… discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977)
    * promoting the view that America is institutionally an oppressive nation
    * promoting the election of leftist political candidates throughout the United States
    * opposing virtually all post-9/11 national security measures enacted by U.S. government, particularly the Patriot Act
    * depicting American military actions as unjust, unwarranted, and immoral
    * promoting open borders, mass immigration, and a watering down of current immigration laws
    * promoting a dramatic expansion of social welfare programs funded by ever-escalating taxes
    * promoting social welfare benefits and amnesty for illegal aliens
    * defending the civil rights and liberties of suspected anti-American terrorists and their abetters
    (the release of Mazrazi to Libya)
    * financing the recruitment and training of future activist leaders of the political Left
    * advocating America’s unilateral disarmament and/or a steep reduction in its military spending
    * opposing the death penalty in all circumstances
    * promoting socialized medicine in the United States
    * promoting the tenets of radical environmentalism, whose ultimate goal, as writer Michael Berliner has explained, is “not clean air and clean water, [but] rather … the demolition of technological/industrial civilization”
    ****** bringing American foreign policy under the control of the United Nations******
    (as mentioned before, my belief is Obama will ultimately become the president of the UN whether he is removed as the US President or not due to Constitutional issues)
    * promoting racial and ethnic preferences in academia and the business world alike
    * promoting taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand
    * advocating stricter gun-control measures
    * advocating the legalization of marijuana
    ================================================
    This is an absolute killer. Soros has “the human rights champion and environmentalist) Robert Redford involved in his malignantly inspired activities. (same source as above: h… w… discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977)
    “In 1996 Soros launched the Soros Documentary Fund with a mission to “spur awareness, action and social change.” Over the ensuing decade, this Fund would help finance the production of several hundred documentaries. In 2001, the Fund’s leadership was turned over to Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute with a continuing mission: “to support the production of documentaries on social justice, human rights, civil liberties, and freedom of expression issues around the world.”
  164. Sorry if my previous post is so long.. It took me three hours to put these thoughts to paper in a cogently linked analysis to Soros owned organizations and wading through the smoke to be able to see what lies beneath it all, as Soros’ end game to his ultimate plans…
    please excuse the misspellings… my head is splitting and a few words have been overlooked thru spell check.
