What To Watch For Tonight

Another Obama publicity stunt, this one a speech before congress, will oppress the nation tonight.

Conventional analysis by Big Media outlets goes like this:

Obama has a lot to do in one speech – convince Americans with insurance it’s a good deal for them, and convince Americans without it that he’s got a plan to cover them — all without busting the budget. The danger for the White House will be muddling its own message.

Big Media outlets will insist that the things to watch out for are: “Can he keep it simple? Who is his bad guy? Where’s that old campaign magic? Does he win the spin? Public option or no public option? What’s the bite of the night? Can he get Republicans to cheer?”

The above questions are rubbish. They are merely the fodder for discussions of what Big Media will want to highlight. The words uttered at tonight’s publicity stunt will mostly be rubbish too.

So what is a sensible person supposed to watch for at tonight’s insensible publicity stunt?

One of the first things to watch for will be Michelle Obama. Will the White House wranglers be able to get her to wear a sensible dress, or costume, most Americans with common sense would wear? Will Michelle Obama again show up in a gin-soaked cocktail dress or one of her silly “I wanna-be a fashion icon” messes? Will Michelle Obama show up in a sober outfit with sleeves that have not been yanked off?

If Michelle Obama shows up in a sober outfit, sleeves still in place, it means that the White House is focusing on bamboozlement of ordinary Americans not the Hopium addled. A sober outfit will demonstrate that the White House understands the level of trouble they are in – bad enough to force Michelle to wear something sensible that will not frighten the visually unimpaired.

A crazy quilt cocktail dress without sleeves will tell us the target audience is still the Hopium addled.

A sober outfit but without sleeves will clue us in that the Obama’s are still playing both sides of the fence.

Michelle Obama’s frock will clue us in as to what audience Barack Obama has been told to target. If real Americans are the target audience, you’ll have to change the channel for a few minutes to see what the target audience is watching.

The Fox entertainment channel (unlike ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS) will not broadcast the Obama publicity stunt. The Fox News Channel will broadcast the publicity stunt. Fox entertainment channel will instead broadcast the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance (8:00 p.m.) and a new episode of the show Glee (9:00 p.m.).

The more viewers So You Think You Can Dance and Glee get, the more evidence there will be of Obama having lost the country. The last time Obama went up against So You Think You Can Dance, Obama lost.

Another item to watch for in the substance-free publicity stunt will be the Jack-in-the-box factor. Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi will sit behind Obama. Who will jump up to applaud the most? Who will jump up first to applaud the most? Will it be Joe or Nancy? What will they applaud? Has Nancy given up on the public option – we’ll get a good idea by when and how high she jumps.

Also look at outfits worn by Nancy, Joe, and Barack. Are these sober outfits (the usual Biden fare) or will Barack wear a “fashion foward, “see, I actually am hip and cool still” tie round his neck? We suspect Obama will wear a dull tie/outfit to appear as “bitter and clingy” as the middle America of his mind.

* * * * *

The above is pretty much all there is to watch from the Obama publicity stunt itself. It will be mostly clothes and reactions and that is it. Nothing else will matter. Above all, do not pay attention to Obama words – those are irrelevant.

Obama’s words tonight will once again be the old Chicago Razzle Dazzle ’em but before a much more experienced and therefore skeptical audience.

The clothes and reactions will likely be conventional because the latest poll out today holds additional proof that Obama is the Third Bush Term. Obama dead-enders continue to support him but most Americans are on their way to loathing Obama.

Public disapproval of President Barack Obama’s handling of health care has jumped to 52 percent, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll released hours before he makes his case for overhaul in a prime-time address to Congress.

With his health revamp moving slowly and unemployment edging ever higher, Obama’s overall approval rating has also suffered a blow. The survey showed that 49 percent now disapprove of how he is handling his job as president, up from 42 percent who disapproved in July.

The grade people give Obama on health care also has worsened since July, when just 43 percent disapproved of his work on the issue.

But surely we cannot be right that the only thing to really watch tonight is Michelle’s frock, Barack’s tie, Nancy’s pep, Joe’s dullness, and the quality of a reality show and a situation comedy? Well, there is another big item, to watch: Big Media reaction to how the stooge performed.

That is all that will matter tonight – Big Media reaction to how the stooge performed, however bad that performance is.

The sensible and the intelligent know that health care reform died in Denver in August 2008.

  1. That, Admin 2 (or Admin1), for putting this all in perspective. I, however, will not be watching. I will hope that the stronger stomach people on the blog will keep me informed.

  2. Dana Perino (former Bush White House press secretary) has the bad news:

    http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/09/09/dana-perino-watch-media-spins-obamas-speech/

    Here we go again. Another day, another speech on health care.

    Will this one be any different? By all indications the answer is no, at least not dramatically so– even though the speech is to a Joint Session of Congress. So how’s a reporter supposed to write something new when there’s really nothing new being said?

    Well, watch how the media walks its walk on health care coverage in the next couple of days. Many reporters seem just about bored to tears with the policy details. Now they are in full-throated “who’s up” and “who’s down” political coverage. Unfortunately, most Americans still aren’t satisfied with the policy proposals and are strongly rejecting the Democrats’ plans for a government takeover of the health care system that they believe will hurt them, their families and their country.[snip]

    The media is itching to write a comeback story after what was, by all accounts, a rotten summer for the Democrats. They’ll want to say that the president has “found his voice,” “reclaimed the issue,” “reenergized the debate”. To do that, they need to set up the piece with a contrast, even if it isn’t true.

  3. Admin (or is it admin2? and I still want to know who admin1 is..)

    Yep, you’re right. I think if they are not confident with the speech, they will make MO wear something really egregious..

    Watch for him to bash all the people he has made backroom deals with.

    {TheRealist, thanks for BC’s video on the previous thread.}

  4. Boo on you NewMexicoFan (Neetabug will probably do the same as you). 🙂 We’ll have to suffer through the boobery while you don’t waste an hour or more of your life watching the national embarrassment. It’s not fair. A few will have to suffer for the greater good we guess. We’ll watch and comment tonight for the benefit of those that don’t want to injure their eyes and ears.

    You will at least take a quick peek at Michelle’s outfit, no? 🙂

  5. Admin, that is quiet a perspective and will watch for all those reasons only. LOL!! We already know that this is the scam to keep “single Payor” off radar FOREVER. So for those of us who really wanted “single payor”, we are now without either party and are hoping for some NEW person who give a damn about us the American people who gives their sons and daughters for stupid reasons made up by the people who NEVER give their sons or daughters to war.

  6. Admin,

    You are KILLING me! ROTF!

    “One of the first things to watch for will be Michelle Obama. Will the White House wranglers be able to get her to wear a sensible dress?”
    Oh Jeezus – that is priceless as is the ensuing analysis!

    “A sober outfit will demonstrate that the White House understands the level of trouble they are in – bad enough to force Michelle to wear something sensible that will not frighten the visually unimpaired.

    BTW – Drudge headline says the House doesn’t have the votes and lists all the Bluedogs and dem libs on record as not supporting the bill.

    Truer words have never been spoken. That is the crux of the matter and rest is kabuki theater.

    O lost me at his first barking word…his choppy (often angry) voice is so irritating…I will have to settle for the clips later tonight…don’t fret, admin…this speech will be difficult to escape…it will be replayed over and over again later in the evening…you can bet on it…

  10. There is something about this date that Muslim’s like, so maybe that’s why he hoping to get a boost from that.

  11. I have no intention of giving that fucking fraud any of my time to listen to his boobless boob of boobs. Nor am I interested in watching amazon chelles in her raunchy clothes. They all make me sick.

    I’ll watch anything but.

  12. For those not watching tonight, here’s a video to pass the time:

    Advice for Obama:

    “Just tell your hoodlum friends outside, you ain’t got time to take a ride.”

  13. barack hussein obama does not have an honest bone in his body and is surrounded by many of the same ilk.

    In my personal opinion, they will all be dressed seriously, with grave faces and downtrodden stances. Not because they realize how much of a disastrous mess they have already made of the country, but because they are going for wholesale pity. They will look exhausted, grey-faced because they want everyone think they spent their summers actually doing more than laze in the sun.

    And obama will emphasize every word…slowly…more slowly…as if talking down to the lower classes (which include all Americans who have dared to make up the 52% who do not like what he is doing to their health care.

    In other words, a Shakespearean tragedy is about to befall our televisions and I hold out hope that the idiot at the podium falls ungracefully on his dull as dirt sword.

  14. As an oncore, obama will once again trash repubs and independents with lies and more lies in an effort to raise his weak-kneed polling numbers, play the blame game in order to win more compromise from his opponents and guilt them into falling into his suicidal trap.

  15. From the speech.
    He’s threatening us again.
    And he says it HCR doesn’t pass more people will die.

    But know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it. I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out.

  16. admin, cute video, reminds me of my daughter trying to get her kids to do their chores. LOL!!

    It will all be yakety yak tonight by the usurper.

  17. basil, I don’t believe one word that comes out his mouth. He is in bed with the special interests, which is never good for the people of this country. How many more people are going to die, because they cannot afford the high premiums or fines that the “new” plan will impose, if they do not buy insurance? Where are the cost controls? He acts like a real jerk.

  18. That, Admin 2 (or Admin1), for putting this all in perspective. I, however, will not be watching. I will hope that the stronger stomach people on the blog will keep me informed.

    Nope

    I will not be watching. I might end up at the emergency room again. My eye abraison might come back.

  19. wbboei, I sent you an email I got from nolimits.org. I thought it might be pertaining to our recent conversion. This is a fundraiser for nolimits.org, isn’t that Hillary’s site???

  20. did any of you get that nolimits.org thing? Its a first annual conference discussing healthcare, the new media, foreign relations. hmm, hmmm…

  21. FWIW,
    I normally don’t follow this case but I’m in such need of optimism I’m pasting one poster’s notes about the court case involving BO’s eligibility to be POTUS.
    Judge David Carter refused to hear Obama’s request for dismissal today, instead setting a hearing date for Oct. 5, since Obama’s attorneys had just filed the motion on Friday. He indicated there was almost no chance that this case would be dismissed. Obama is arguing this lawsuit was filed in the wrong court if you can believe that. I guess Obama would prefer a “kangaroo court” instead of a Federal court! Assuming Judge Carter denies Obama’s motion for dismissal, he will likely then order expedited discovery which will force Obama to release his birth certificate in a timely manner (if he has one).

    The judge, who is a former U.S. Marine, repeated several times that this is a very serious case which must be resolved quickly so that the troops know that their Commander in Chief is eligible to hold that position and issue lawful orders to our military in this time of war. He basically said Obama must prove his eligibility to the court! He said Americans deserve to know the truth about their President!

    The two U.S. Attorneys representing Barack Obama tried everything they could to sway the judge that this case was frivolous, but Carter would have none of it and cut them off several times. Obama’s attorneys left the courtroom after about the 90 minute hearing looking defeated and nervous.

    Great day in America for the U.S. Constitution!!! The tru

  23. Here are some of the words Obama will mouth at the publicity stunt tonight:

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/09/09/obama-if-you-misrepresent-whats-in-the-plan-we-will-call-you-out/

    I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last. It has now been nearly a century since Theodore Roosevelt first called for health care reform. And ever since, nearly every President and Congress, whether Democrat or Republican, has attempted to meet this challenge in some way. A bill for comprehensive health reform was first introduced by John Dingell Sr. in 1943. Sixty-five years later, his son continues to introduce that same bill at the beginning of each session.

    Our collective failure to meet this challenge – year after year, decade after decade – has led us to a breaking point. Everyone understands the extraordinary hardships that are placed on the uninsured, who live every day just one accident or illness away from bankruptcy. These are not primarily people on welfare. These are middle-class Americans. Some can’t get insurance on the job. Others are self-employed, and can’t afford it, since buying insurance on your own costs you three times as much as the coverage you get from your employer. Many other Americans who are willing and able to pay are still denied insurance due to previous illnesses or conditions that insurance companies decide are too risky or expensive to cover.

    ***

    During that time, we have seen Washington at its best and its worst.

    We have seen many in this chamber work tirelessly for the better part of this year to offer thoughtful ideas about how to achieve reform. Of the five committees asked to develop bills, four have completed their work, and the Senate Finance Committee announced today that it will move forward next week. That has never happened before. Our overall efforts have been supported by an unprecedented coalition of doctors and nurses; hospitals, seniors’ groups and even drug companies – many of whom opposed reform in the past. And there is agreement in this chamber on about eighty percent of what needs to be done, putting us closer to the goal of reform than we have ever been.

    But what we have also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have toward their own government. Instead of honest debate, we have seen scare tactics. Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise. Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points, even if it robs the country of our opportunity to solve a long-term challenge. And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned.

    Well the time for bickering is over. The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action. Now is when we must bring the best ideas of both parties together, and show the American people that we can still do what we were sent here to do. Now is the time to deliver on health care.

    The plan I’m announcing tonight would meet three basic goals:

    It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance to those who don’t. And it will slow the growth of health care costs for our families, our businesses, and our government. It’s a plan that asks everyone to take responsibility for meeting this challenge – not just government and insurance companies, but employers and individuals. And it’s a plan that incorporates ideas from Senators and Congressmen; from Democrats and Republicans – and yes, from some of my opponents in both the primary and general election.

    ***

    Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan:

    First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.

    What this plan will do is to make the insurance you have work better for you. Under this plan, it will be against the law for insurance companies to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. As soon as I sign this bill, it will be against the law for insurance companies to drop your coverage when you get sick or water it down when you need it most. They will no longer be able to place some arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or a lifetime. We will place a limit on how much you can be charged for out-of-pocket expenses, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they get sick. And insurance companies will be required to cover, with no extra charge, routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies – because there’s no reason we shouldn’t be catching diseases like breast cancer and colon cancer before they get worse. That makes sense, it saves money, and it saves lives.

    That’s what Americans who have health insurance can expect from this plan – more security and stability.

    Now, if you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans who don’t currently have health insurance, the second part of this plan will finally offer you quality, affordable choices. If you lose your job or change your job, you will be able to get coverage. If you strike out on your own and start a small business, you will be able to get coverage. We will do this by creating a new insurance exchange – a marketplace where individuals and small businesses will be able to shop for health insurance at competitive prices. Insurance companies will have an incentive to participate in this exchange because it lets them compete for millions of new customers. As one big group, these customers will have greater leverage to bargain with the insurance companies for better prices and quality coverage. This is how large companies and government employees get affordable insurance. It’s how everyone in this Congress gets affordable insurance. And it’s time to give every American the same opportunity that we’ve given ourselves.

    ***

    This is the plan I’m proposing. It’s a plan that incorporates ideas from many of the people in this room tonight – Democrats and Republicans. And I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead. If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open.

    But know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it. I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.

    Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.

    That is why we cannot fail. Because there are too many Americans counting on us to succeed – the ones who suffer silently, and the ones who shared their stories with us at town hall meetings, in emails, and in letters.

  24. Admin,

    I read that speech. It’s sickening. It’s enough to drive us all to the ER.

    Like neetabug, I will not be watching and will rely on your witty fashion commentary.

    As usual, nothing substantive in the speech. More campaign rhetoric.

  27. notice, O does not say anything about raising taxes on this taxpayer or that business, or slapping fines on anyone who does not obey his plan…

    btw…he certainly is the president that pulled a Cheney and went secretly behind closed doors to cut deals with his lobbyist drug co friends…like a rat…and CREW had to sue the WH to get the names of his lobbyist friends that snuck into the WH to cut their deals…that is what O transparency looks like…

    how can anyone trust anything that this con man says…

  28. Thomas Sowell:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/09/08/what_obama_says_vs_what_he_does.html

    The most important thing about what anyone says are not the words themselves but the credibility of the person who says them.

    The words of convicted swindler Bernie Madoff were apparently quite convincing to many people who were regarded as knowledgeable and sophisticated. If you go by words, you can be led into anything.

    No doubt millions of people will be listening to the words of President Barack Obama Wednesday night when he makes a televised address to a joint session of Congress on his medical care plans. But, if they think that the words he says are what matters, they can be led into something much worse than being swindled out of their money.

  29. if the dems go it alone and force a health care reform plan that forces and fines people and businesses with things as bad as they are these days, i honestly think there will be a revolution in the streets…

    btw…just saw a clip of O from THIS morning, saying he is open to new ideas???WTH?

    this man is a walkin contradiction…i thought tonight was for HIS specifics…expect the same boilerplate…

    This is GREAT!
    (a little long – sorry)

    Sarah Palin’s Notes
    Response to the White House
    Today at 2:55pm
    I’m pleased that the White House is finally responding to Republican health care ideas instead of pretending they don’t exist.[1] But in doing so President Obama should follow his own sound advice and avoid making “wild misrepresentations”.[2] Medicare vouchers would give everyone on Medicare the chance to decide for themselves which health plan to use, rather than leave that decision to government bureaucrats. Such proposals are the kind of health care reform that Republicans stand for: market-oriented, patient-centered, and result-driven.

    The White House talking points leave the rest of my arguments unanswered. They don’t respond to the idea that all individuals should get the same tax benefits received by those who get coverage through their employers; that we must reform our tort laws; and that we should allow Americans to buy insurance across state lines. The White House also fails to respond to the Nyce/Schieber study indicating that wages will fall if the government expands coverage without reducing health care inflation rates.

    One last thing: after President Obama’s speech tonight, listen for which pundits use the words “false”, “scary”, and “risky” in describing the proposals I put forward. That’s how you’ll be able to tell who the White House counted as “allies” worthy of receiving its talking points.

  33. LOL…I meant to say that he tops all the other presidents who have lied their way in, with his corrupt friendships and vote stealing.

    Yes others have lied and cheated, but I think he is the worst of the worst.

  38. ACORN turns in Fla. workers on voter fraud charges

    By CURT ANDERSON (AP)

    MIAMI — Armed with a tip from the grassroots group ACORN about its own workers, authorities on Wednesday began arresting 11 people suspected of falsifying hundreds of voter applications during a registration drive last year.

    ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has long been accused by Republican and conservative activists — fed by talk-radio hosts — of fraudulently registering voters. But Miami-Dade prosecutors gave credit to the group for coming forward and ACORN officials said they felt vindicated.

    “It shows that we take the integrity of our voter registration work with the utmost seriousness,” said ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring. “We turn in people who try to game the system.”

    Although ACORN is nonpartisan, its registration efforts focus on low-income and minority populations who tend to vote for Democrats; critics contend those efforts frequently bend or break registration rules. At times during the 2008 presidential campaign, people attending rallies for Republican nominee John McCain broke into chants of “No More ACORN!”

    Last year, ACORN’s national drive produced some 1.3 million voter applications.

    ACORN first detected problems in Miami-Dade County in June 2008, according to a letter the group wrote to prosecutors. Investigators eventually determined that 11 canvassers, who were paid between $8 and $10 an hour, were turning in fake registration cards, mostly from the Homestead area.

    “This is really about money. These are people who decided not to work,” said Ed Griffith, spokesman for Miami-Dade State Attorney Katharine Fernandez Rundle.

    The 11 workers each face multiple counts of two felony charges: false swearing in connection with voting and submission of false voter registration information. Each count is punishable by up to five years in prison.

    The suspects collectively turned in about 1,400 registration cards, of which 888 were later found to be faked. Some contained names of celebrities such as actor Paul Newman, while in other cases the same real voter’s name was used on multiple applications. There was no evidence anyone voted who should not have.

    The FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement had made five arrests by midday and were looking for the remaining suspects. ACORN officials said the group regularly reports suspected fraud to authorities nationwide but the Miami prosecution marks one of the few times the complaints were taken seriously.

    ACORN itself last year was the subject of fraudulent registration complaints in Missouri, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina, among others.

    Every non-partisan organization that has looked at her claims say they are false. And the ideas in her op-ed are both scary and risky. Eliminating Medicare and giving our seniors vouchers instead is a bad idea that we shouldn’t adopt.

  43. Basil, you only do that if they get under your skin, Obama is shit scared of women like Palin, its a lifelong problem for him.

    They thing is, he is giving her more room to respond and is bringing her right into the fight. He’s a moron.

  44. Hillary Clinton set to visit Ireland in October
    Sec of State will use trip to reaffirm commitment to Irish issues

    By NIALL O’DOWD, IrishCentral.Com Publisher

    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to visit Ireland in mid-October according to sources close to the Clinton camp. And it is expected that she will be accompanied by the new economic envoy, who is expected to be named shortly.

    Sources say Clinton will use the trip as an opportunity to strongly dismiss reports that the U.S government is paying little attention to Ireland. Sources told the Irish Voice that Clinton has made absolutely clear her commitment to handling the Irish brief as well as her responsibilities at the State Department.

    She is expected to visit Dublin and Belfast during her visit and to discuss the state of the peace process as well as economic investment. She also wants to meet the Northern Ireland leaders and find out first hand what the priorities for the success of the peace process are

    The visit will be an opportunity for Clinton, who visited Ireland six times between 1992 and 2000 as First Lady, to become reacquainted with the situation there. She is said to be particularly pleased that Belfast now has a female Lord Mayor, Naomi Long, for the first time in a generation as involving women in politics was a huge part of her priorities there during her visits as First Lady.

    One of her key staffers , Jake Sullivan, who worked on her campaign and later became an important figure in the Obama team, is handling Ireland on a day-to-day basis.

    During the Bush administration, neither Condoleezza Rice nor Colin Powell visited Dublin and both left the Northern Ireland situation to the State Department envoys.

    Clinton will set a new tone with her visit and clearly indicate that Ireland and the peace process there is one of the success stories she has used in conflict resolution talks all over the world.

  45. I posted this near the end of the last article, but it is very appropriate for today’s scammin speech.

    The public option is dead, no matter what the TOTUS states tonight. He already sold out to the insurance and pharmaceutical companies during all of the closed door meetings. All this back and forth is kabuki theater, nothing more. Remember that article in Business Week: “The Health Insurers Have Already Won.”

  46. Afghanistan Election Dispute Rises to Top of Clinton’s Agenda

    By Indira A.R. Lakshmanan

    Sept. 9 (Bloomberg) — Afghanistan has “moved to the top” of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s agenda since evidence of widespread fraud emerged from last month’s presidential election, the State Department said today.

    Department spokesman Ian Kelly said the attention was spurred by the Afghan Electoral Complaints Commission’s finding of “clear and convincing evidence that there was this kind of fraud on a large scale.”

    Clinton has been discussing concerns over voting irregularities with U.S. officials in Washington and Kabul, Kelly told reporters. The U.S. wants Afghan authorities to “take these charges very seriously and deal with them in a way that people can have confidence” in the results, he said.

    U.S. officials had counted on the Aug. 20 election to yield a credible government that would be a partner in expanding military and economic-development efforts to defeat Taliban insurgents.

    The United Nations-backed complaints commission yesterday ordered a partial recount for polling stations that reported 100 percent turnout or where at least 95 percent of votes were cast for a single candidate. Kelly said the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, met yesterday with President Hamid Karzai for a second time this week to discuss “the need for these elections to be seen as credible and legitimate in the eyes of the Afghan people and in the eyes of the world.” “We’re very satisfied with the way the Afghan authorities have responded to this,” Kelly said, adding that Karzai himself is “refraining from publicly commenting on the outcome of the election, giving a chance for the process to work out. Afghan governmental organs are also responding to allegations of complaints.”

    Rival’s Accusations

    Karzai’s rival, Abdullah Abdullah, has released photos and videos that he says show Karzai’s backers stuffing ballot boxes in southern Afghanistan, where violence by Taliban guerrillas kept turnout low.

    Kelly said yesterday that “a legitimate electoral process is vital to us and vital to any kind of partnership that we would have with the government going forward.”

    Clinton will meet later today with three U.S. senators who recently returned from a trip to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq to discuss their observations and concerns. Democrats Carl Levin of Michigan, Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Ted Kaufman of Delaware are members of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees.

    I think Jack Reid is credible. Kaufman I do not know. Levin would sell out his country for 29 pieces of silver.

  48. Michelle is wearing pink! A conservative pink suit with sleeves!

    They must know how much in trouble they are with middle America. Michelle’s outfit also has a bow at the neck this time.

  49. I also don’t think Hillary is going to quit SOS. Doesn’t make sense to me.
    ————————————————-
    It makes sense to me. When Obama hits the skids you do not want to be aboard the Titanic. If the New York Democratic Party called on her to serve, how could she refuse them.

  50. God Pelosi is like the book carrier, can i shine your boots, carry your books, wipe your ass……………………………..sickening.

  51. God all I did was go off to do a little research, and Admin was talking to me and you were all really posting. I still think we have a new admin, as his sense of humor has become very dry.

  52. Pelosi loused up my picture. She does not know anything about toning anything down.

    Her dress just burned its image into my TV screen, thats the plasma screen fucked.

    ================

    Could make a lot of sense to me if I knew the details. The current Dem Gov of NY seems to be in trouble, she might be more electable.

    And she’d be her own woman again, not Obama’s secretary. And she could stay home with Bill and Chelsea.

    But I don’t think she’d desert the women of the world without good cause. The world is a lot bigger than NY. (Lovely if she’s thinking of another Pres run though!)

  54. It looks like Obama is watching tennis too, NewMexicoFan. His head is going from side to side reading the TelePrompters.

  55. I think someone loaded the wrong speech in the teleprompter.

    Haven’t we already heard this one? I’m sure this has been recycled.

  56. ME-chelle looks like Little PINK Ridinghood tonight in her little more conservative pink dress with the little bow thing.

    So she goes from cocktail sleeveless to Little Pink RIdinghood.

  57. WTF

    “our health care problem IS our deficit problem”

    He just made the above stupid comment – can’t believe it.

  58. BO says that even drug companies are on board with Obamacare and they’ve not done that before. Could that be because Hillary and Bill did not cut an under the table deal with them???

  59. MoonOnPluto, we’ve all heard this nonsense before. Wonder if Big Media will notice it is the same words gussied up with volume and furrowed brow.

  60. Not very far into yet, but this is not one of his better performances. Teleprompter must be on vacation this week. It seems a very stammering delivery, so far.

    It just comes across that he dont believe what hes saying either.

  61. doubt it admin, he could come out and shit on the floor for 3 minutes and recite his convention speech again and they’d call it the greatest healthcare speech of all time.

  62. So BO is praising something J McCain proposed during the campaign. I’m listening for him to praise Hillary…

  63. Of course, Moon. Did you see McCain grinning like a possum?

    I expect any second that BO is going to add along with Obamacare, there will be a chicken in every pot and a popcicle in every hand.

    That’s what he sounds like to me.

  64. Someone said something about something BO just said…or at least made a sound. WHEW! Pelosi was looking and looking and looking pretty p*ssed.

  65. The booing was apparently about illegal immigrants. Obama looks taken by surprise and frightened. Nancy looked shocked.

  66. My Dad was watching. I just went to his room and he was asleep! Ha!

    The young Oudin is playing at The US OPen. Trust me, no one is watching the jerk.

  67. Biden and Pelosi keep talking back and forth every time there are applause and occassionally look over the way that someone yelled.

  68. When Bambi said his bill would not provide illegals w/ care, someone in the gallery yelled “That’s a lie.”

  69. Now BO’s getting on to his “DEM” friends and then his “REP” friends. Shame on them for not swallowing his plan hook, line, and sinker.

  70. Hahahahaha, Republicans holding up handouts of their ideas! for the cameras, Bambi is getting heckled, have you ever in your born days seen a President get heckled at a Joint address of congress.

  71. BO just said he would not sign a plan that adds one dime to the deficit now or in the future period. REALLY

  72. A few observations:

    1) I loved what Bill Clinton said at the Cronkite service. Very moving.

    2) Some of those comments on the last thread, from people saying Hillary warned everyone Obama was not ready for prime time, had me LOL.

    3) I seriously doubt Hillary will leave her job as SoS to run for NY governor, though she’d make an excellent one. Conservative sites like the Weekly Standard are far from reliable sources on anything involving Hillary.

  73. This is just like primary nights with the blow by blow. I always enjoyed those. A heckler huh, that must be embarrassing.

  74. This is dumb. No company will want to offer insurance if they know the Government will take care of their employees for them.

  75. Politico comes to the defense of Obama:

    Obama shoots down other misinformation — attacking arguments that Democratic plans would lead to single payer or cover illegal immigrants. The president looks a little taken aback by scattered boos and shouts from the GOP side.

  76. They said she is an overnight phnom. Kid of reminds you of the worship of the OO. She needs a little seasoning, and he needs a lot.

  77. Here comes another “independent commission” to weed out waste in Medicare.

    and that commission will cost more than what it saves. For fucks sake man.

  78. That heckler is going to be caught and sentenced to life. Just watch for bambi’s nazi police to shine their ominous flashlights and stomp out the dissenter.

  79. What did the idiot say about her? Sarah is sitting at home right now, laughing her ass off. If this was Obama’s BIG speech to win back his presidency, he failed MISERABLY. Even Feinstein isn’t clapping

    It’s almost like they got some carzy homeless guy off the street, gave him a bath, and told him to be president for an hour.

  80. ould make a lot of sense to me if I knew the details. The current Dem Gov of NY seems to be in trouble, she might be more electable.
    ———————————————–
    It is the key to life after 2012, and the springboard for another presidential run if the stars are in alignment. In short, its smart.

    If she stays where she is he will overshadow her work. Big Media will see to that. Meanwhile his domestic agenda will fail, the Republicans will win and she will be out. And if by some sophistry of reason, he wins in 2012 she will not be part of his second term so once again she will be out.

    If she runs for governor of New York, she is likely to win. That gives her a lease on political life until 2014. If she decides to challenge him in 2012, this gives her a power base to do so. If he steps aside, and the party comes to her and asks her to run, then this gives her a power base from which to negotiate terms.

    In sum, this is a safe harbor for her in my opinion. By 2012, big media will be discredited in the eyes of most people.

  81. When BO said if you come to me with a serious set of proposals my door is open…there was a bit of a mummer in the audience.

  82. If you misrepresent what is in this plan we will call you out.

    What does that mean…we’lll turn you over to Dick Chency?

  83. Ted’s letter that was probably typed up 3 days after he was buried. Amazing mediums they have working for them.

    Of course the time to bring to bring up TK would have been at the start, everyone will have changed channel long ago.

  84. If the dims have not figured out that they have a tiger by the tail they are delusional. Nothing Obama says will come true.

  85. Gee, I just took a look. MO is showing no cleavage and no sleeveless.. Oh boy she is wooing all those conservatives!!

  86. This was the BIG speech to rescue his Presidency, he seriously needs to sack the script writer.

    What a load of old shit.

  87. BO ended his speech talking about character. During the last few minutes of his speech, he fell into that preacher voice and you just expected a hallo to sprout out of his head any second.

  88. What in the great pile of stink is this stupid idiot talking about now? Why is he whispering and now he’s yelling?

  89. Politico comes to the defense of Obama:
    —————————————
    Their meal ticket depends on perpetuating the big lie. They are a pathetic group–simple simon, butboy ben smith, the angel dust twins (Cilezza, Milbank), and the darkling Thrush.

    I agree! Gives me a good feeling to know she has a safe place to be her own woman of NY again. She will probably get more done there than in the Senate but still with the NY people and issues she loves.

    And fwiw, it gives her a chance to show her skills as Chief Executive of a big powerful state. (For those who need more demonstration.)

    I’d just like to see her and Palin teaming up….

  91. Rep Charles Boustany just said Rep are ready to work with BO on common sense reforms. He says it is time to start over on a BI Partisan plan.

  92. Obviously, there was no way the man was going to change my mind on this, but I don’t see how in the world anyone else that was on the fence could have been swayed to his position, whatever it is. He said the same old things and threw in a couple of cheap shots for good measure.

    I’d be annoyed as an ordinary citizen that there was nothing in that at all, i’d still be none the wiser and i bet people it left more questions than answers.

  93. The poor Hopium addled – they must be scratching their heads trying to figure out what Obama said. There were lots of words but little meaning. It has all been heard before. We still don’t know what Obama would veto or what he demands.

    Watching tennis might have been the way to go.

  94. Boustany gave a good rebuttal.

    He did mention he was a heart surgeon, I think. It seemed to give him more stature. Wobbei predicted that the Rep needed a doctor like him several days ago.

  95. So I can hear the Spin NOW, greatest speech ever written, it will go down in history, he laid our very clearly what his intentions were, blah blah blah.

  96. Forget his speech, the nugget of the night and all this will be remembered for is………………………

    Audience Yells “Liar” At Obama During Health Care Speech to Congress!

  97. Has anyone ever ever heard a President get heckled in the Houses of congress.

    I mean its unheard of and speaks volumes of the “uniter”.

  98. They are going bonkers over at DU. In response to word that Obama would not insist on a public option in tonight’s speech, one poster said:

    OBAMA YOU ARE DEAD TO ME!!!!!!!! There is nothing more to say. All of a sudden, the mute switch will be automatically going on in my head when Obama is speaking.

    They are fighting with each other, too:

    Then back out of the discussion. But don’t you DARE suggest anyone should be quiet because YOU have had ‘enough’. I’m listening to weasel words – and Congress didn’t write his damned speech. Go polish your rose colored glasses and think up some more excuses for the President.

    I love it with they implode.

  99. The vile Karl Rove just said that the best part of BO’s speech was teh inspirational call to do something up lifting and the call to action

    He said the worst part of the speech was that it was bitterly partisan. Funny to hear o’ Karl say that.

    Bill O just said that BO’s speech was to long and he’d cut it down and write it for him.

  100. In fighting is the most vicious sort. People with a once common cause when some become disallusion, and they begin fighting against each other. I saw it happen in HRC groups when some stood and said I am out of here, and other folded in to do at the Dims dictated.

  101. video link to the shout “lie” wow, Nancy was shocked..

    politico.com/singletitlevideo.html?bcpid=19407224001&bctid=38333358001

  102. moononpluto, I gave up on DU long ago when they started trashing Hillary. Glad to hear their heads are exploding.

  103. Hey, I had every intention of watching the speech, but feel asleep when he said, “the american people” (introduction). His sing song speech always put me to sleep, but however I did wake up when he said tort reform?? We’re expecting that??

    It was high theatre tonight one side clapping and jumping up the other sullen, unmoving, where can you get a show like that folks.

    I lip read Mrs Kennedy say it was magnificant speech, all agreed, but it feel on dead ears or at least asleep.

    I thought Hillary looked quiet peppy and alert and as always everyone goes out of their way to hug and kiss her. I don’t know how that happens as everyone is suppose to hate her as she is a killer, communist and a socialist. Its amazing to me, everytime I see people are breaking out just to get a paw on her. Will wonder never cease!!

    Obama is again FOS!

  104. MoonOnPluto, we are weeping for the poor B.O.T.s at DU you wrote about and at other PINO sites who are just today realizing they are fools who have been taken in by a Chicago flim-flam man. The tears won’t stop. 🙂

  105. AOL never mentioned the heckler. That is fair and balanced for you.

    On the video POOPS does appear really upset.

  106. Who ever that was that yelled liar, I hope he’s paid his taxes, because Ms. Nancy will make sure the IRS is knocking on his door in the morning!! Poor guy, he dared to interrupt the “one”.

  107. Southern Born Says:

    BO says that even drug companies are on board with Obamacare and they’ve not done that before.
    —————————————————————————————————

    The drug companies are onboard, because they were able to cut a sweetheart deal with BO and legislators behind closed doors. I bet they are very, very happy.

  108. Congressman Yells ‘You Lie’ During Obama Speech
    The outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech

    President Obama’s address Wednesday to Congress was greeted warmly with applause from Democrats, but also some disruptions, including one moment in which a congressman accused Obama of lying.

    South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

    Wilson’s outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech. Overhead in the visitors’ gallery, first Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side.

    Obama’s speech also drew some cheers from Republicans, primarily when he spoke of tort reform.

    President Clinton also faced critical Republicans when he addressed Congress on health care reform in 1993. For example, they laughed at a remark about using Congress’ deficit projections.

    “Well, you can laugh, my fellow Republicans, but I will point out that the Congressional Budget Office is normally more conservative,” Clinton said.

    House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wasn’t immediately aware who yelled “you lie” during Obama’s speech, but she told FOX News that she would not move to sanction anyone for it.

    The Associated Press contributed to this report.

    foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/09/congressman-yells-lie-obama-speech/

    Hello everyone!… bet you all thought i was gone for good huh LOL no not really gone, i’ve been visiting here a few times per week to keep up. haven’t had much time for internet etc.
    as i have been gone for a few months now, still caring for my mom here in minnesota (heading back to south dakota in a couple weeks, need to get back to my family)
    she is done with her chemo, we are waiting for results of her scans..so not sure yet how she’s doing.

    so, I expect to be back here posting more often once i am back to my old rutine at home 😀

  109. NMF

    I am actually taking care of my self, an old sports injury reared its ugly head last june (torn cartilege in right knee) well today was finally surgery day… i went, i was prepped, i waited for the doctor to show and i waited and i waited and i waited… 3.5 hours later he was still going to be another hour. so i left.

    rescheduled for friday at 7am so atleast i will still get it done.

    but i have to say if this is a sign of things to come with HCR it’s not going to be good for anyone at all.

  110. I really hate to watch Pooplosi as she listens to Obama while he is speechifying, OMG, it looks like she’s having some sort of sexual experience. Quiet disgusting!!

  111. Hillary received a more than warm reception when she entered the house chamber for the speech.I noticed many of her senate and house supporters whispered in her ear and I am sure it was music to her.She sat through his teleprompter garbage and she never smiled and her hand clapping was listless.If only the MSM would cover the good work she is doing as SoS for her country.She is very much in demand by world leaders
    to sit down with them and discuss world problems.
    In his speech BO asked legislators who had things to discuss with him to just come to the WH for his door is always open to them.Good offer from a Potus who is never there but either on vacation or burning up fuel and wasting our time reading self promoting speeches campaign style.

    By ABM91 Stay ready Hillary your time is coming.

  112. Yes, Confloyd. Pelosi was almost to the screaming, “Yes, yes, yes” phase of her sexual experience watching BO when that mean old Rep Joe Wilson threw a bucket of cold water on her!

  113. I thought Pooplosi looked worried, very somber, and then astonished that anyone would yell out like that when The One was speaking. In the British Parliment, they yell out like that all the time, at the Prime Minister, and think nothing of it.

  114. djia…really nice to see you back, sounds like it’s unanimous! hope everything turns out well for your mom and your knee!

  115. Barack’s Bullshit Healthcare Bamboozlement
    By Larry Johnson on September 9, 2009 at 9:05 PM in Current Affairs

    What garbage!!! Oh, it was smooth. It had some soaring rhetoric. But we’ve seen this tap dance before. The most egregious is his utter nonsense about “working with Republicans.” Sorry, Barry, but if you meant what you said then you would not have convened a Democrats only meeting at the White House yesterday.

    If you meant what you said you would not have allowed your Administration officials to go out and savage Americans who dared speak up at town halls.

    If you meant what you said you would have invited John McCain to the White House last week or last month to make a genuine push for bipartisan reform. But you did not. You sat on your hands as the various monster plans were exposed for the chicanery they contained.

    And then you promise to pay for this mess by producing gold out of cow dung. You promise to pay for this program but fail to make clear how. Oh, you are going to clean up “waste, fraud and abuse?” Hell, you couldn’t even properly vet the radical pass of Van Jones or the tax cheating of Timmy Geithner. Clean up your own damn act first before you dare tell us that you are going to magically clean up “waste, fraud and abuse.” Look in the mirror!

    All you did tonight was repackage the vacuous promises you made on the campaign trail. And we know how you honor your promises and commitments. All we have to do is ask Jeremiah Wright and Van Jones.

  116. Djia

    Welcome back. Will you be having the micro surgery? My daughter had it done in May. Hardly any scar. She was back to work in a week.

    Hang in there

    Notice i could not spell micro——

  117. CNN was covering the “You Lie” shout out.

    That will be all the news tomorrow. Forget the speech…..waste of time. Glad I didn’t watch……can’t….he makes me ill.

  118. southernborn, those cold showers are hell! LOL!!

  120. neetabug, yes i am having “arthoscopy” , a friend of mine also had it done and said she wishes she hadn’t waited so long.

    I have lived with the pain in my knee for 20 or so years, but this summer my knee popped and the swelling has not gone away even after having the fluid drained and a cortizone shot 🙁

    I have a bakers cyst behind my knee as well causing problems.. so it is time to finally do something about it. I look forward to no more swelling and pain that’s for sure!

  121. That is the dumbed down beautiful part of it. Take it down to the third grade level CNN understands. Let them interview Mr. Wilson. Let him come on their program with one of their know nothing talking heads. Let the dummy ask Joe the question like how could you call the PRESIDENT of the United States a LIAR–you ignorant Republican. Joe can then respond, well as long as you put it that way it isn’t all that difficult to do when you look at his Chicago origins, his Alinsky methods, his intimidation and voter fraud, his phony coronation, his fly me to the moon from denver speech, his private presidential seal, his trail of broken promises. But when you censor the facts and engage in lying by omission like you people do at CNN, then it would be hard to understand how he could be called a liar. So you see, the fault is not mine but yours, CNN.

  122. Had lunch with one of the HRC supporters, very top level. She did not talk at all about OO, and she tried to minimize the tea parties. She wants to run for office. She caught me up on all of the Dims social crxp going on. Funny, but I really don’t think it is all that important anymore. When she tells me about the stupid little fights, I just smile. She has built her bridges, and some of the people she is relying on I think are crooks. I guess we will see how that all works out.

  123. NMF, there ya go, I don’t belong to any organized party, I’m a democrat. Backbiting, backstabbing and payback!

  124. djia

    Whats good about that type of surgery you are in and out.

    Before she had the surgery they were giving her cortizone shots. They also drained fluid off her knee. This had been going on for three months. She decided on having the surgery. She was tired of the shots and the pain.

    She is fine now. No more pain.

    We went shopping three days after the surgery

  125. UK tellegraph makes the first shout of RACISTS!!

    Mr Wilson showed an ugly side of America. Perhaps the depth of his feeling, and of the protestors who have denounced Mr Obama with such fury so readily, really see him as a socialist menace threatening to undo all that is sacred about the nation, determined to sneak in a government takeover of health care, dissolve gun owners’ rights and indoctrinate children.

    But the question may well soon begin to be asked: perhaps it is just that they are not comfortable with having the first black American in the White House.

  126. Over on NQ, a commenter said, “The MUST LOVE WINE COMMUNITY blogsite has issued an order to therir robots to hassle Cong. Wilson nad give money to his opponent.”

    Don’t know if that is true or not but it seems that even though Nancy says she will not sanction Rep Wilson for his remark during BO’s speech, it has started and Joe Wilson will be “hit”.

    ‘Israel link’ in Arctic Sea case

    The Arctic Sea’s disappearance is still shrouded in speculation
    Israel was linked to the interception of the missing cargo ship Arctic Sea last month, a senior figure close to Israeli intelligence has told the BBC.

    The source said Israel had told Moscow it knew the ship was secretly carrying a Russian air defence system for Iran.

    Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has dismissed speculation that S-300 missiles were on board the ship.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, has denied making a secret visit to Moscow on Monday.

    Mr Netanyahu’s office says he was visiting an Israeli security installation when he vanished from public view for much of the day.

    A BBC correspondent points out that the claim of a secret arms shipment come as Israel seeks to highlight the threat posed by Iran.

    Tehran faces a deadline to open talks on its nuclear programme or face possible sanctions from the UN.

    ‘Groundless’

    The Maltese-flagged Arctic Sea and its 15 Russian crew vanished in July days after leaving Finland with an apparent cargo of timber destined for Algeria.

    Moscow has dismissed claims of S-300 missiles on board the Arctic Sea
    It was found on 16 August off West Africa. Moscow announced that the Russian navy had captured the hijackers and rescued the crew.

    Eight men were later charged with hijacking and piracy.

    However, the Israeli source told the BBC that the piracy story was a cover and that Israel told Moscow it was giving officials time to stop the shipment before making the matter public.

    On Tuesday, Mr Lavrov called media speculation that S-300 missiles were on board the Arctic Sea “groundless”.

    He also promised a “transparent” investigation into the disappearance of the ship.

    Israeli media are linking the Arctic Sea incident to reports in the Hebrew language daily Yediot Aharonot of a clandestine visit by Mr Netanyahu to Moscow on Monday.

    The prime minister’s office insisted that he had been visiting a “security installation inside Israel”.

    The Kremlin press service said “nothing is known” about the reports, AP news agency reported.

    Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, added that he had no information about any visit by Mr Netanyahu, Russia’s Interfax news

    ere is some more stuff about arms going to Iran.

  129. She has built her bridges, and some of the people she is relying on I think are crooks. I guess we will see how that all works out.
    —————————————————-
    Thirty years ago, my godfather put me together with a leading democrat who was a mover and shaker in the party in those days. We had lunch at the athletic club and talked about my political ambitions at that time. The very next day, he was indicted for being a bag man between legislators and a construction company that wanted a no bid contract to rebuild a major bridge. Months later, I remember him standing on the steps of the U.S. Court House talking about how he had betrayed his family, the country and himself. Tears were rolling down his eyes. My fledgling career in politics never got off the ground.

    I thought about that little vignette when I read your posting NMF. That was a long time ago, but human nature does not change.

  130. I’m no fan of Obama, obviously, but I do think the heckling is classless, to be honest with you. I was appalled when the Repubs did it to Clinton.

  131. Unfortunately, the republican zealot who called him a liar helped Obama imo…this will sway independents and moderates and portrays the GOP as extremely erratic…It also will be the focus of MSM (see racists ) and divert attention from Obama’s otherwise boring speech.

    As for Hillary, she looked great and I hope when those sycophants come up to her and greet her, she whispers ‘Fuck-Off” to those who so willingly abandoned her.
    Lastly, it is pretty apparent that the black caucus seeks to have our country parallel the system used in Cuba and aligns itself with people like Castro, Chavez, and the Palestinians.

  132. Paula, i would normally tend to agree with you on that one.

    But in this case i think rep wilson was a patriot and may have sacrificed himself in order to have an open dialog begin about “O” lies.

    how many here think that conversation would have a chance of happening any other way??

    I for one do not.

  133. All this talk about health care for illegal aliens … hasn’t it occurred to anyone that after they’re treated, someone could deliver them back to Mexico?

  134. According to Greta, Joe Wilson has apoligized for his behavior during BO’s speech. He apoliziged to Rahm Emauel

  135. jobstonesfan, I agree with you about the potential backlash regarding Wilson. And I loved your comment about what Hillary should’ve told the backstabbers, lol.

  136. confloyd, The GOP probably told Wilson to apologize. The party already has a reputation for name-calling, and this didn’t help.

    —————————————
    I hope it happens for this reason. The American People do not like lynch mobs. Also, it is the perfect issue to tee up: Is Mr. Obama a liar? They could do a special on that. These people do not realize the harm they do to Mr. Obama by behaving like his thugs. And he has encouraged it at times and condoned it at other times. Therefore, he is accountable for what they do. His mistake was in not controlling it from the beginning. This is a big problem for Mr. Obama.

  138. btw…just saw a clip of O from THIS morning, saying he is open to new ideas???WTH?
    ***********************

    Just ask The CEO of Whole Foods how that went!

  139. Paula, I imagine Wilson had to apologize or else as someone said earlier, Rahm, Axelrod and company would have some diversion amunition to aim at the Rep.

    But I do imagine there was some “woodshed” moments prior to it.

  140. Southern Born, I’m glad to hear he apologized.
    ——————————————
    That is a mistake. Obama called congressional leaders the same thing shortly before that moment.

  141. According to Greta, Joe Wilson has apoligized for his behavior during BO’s speech. He apoliziged to Rahm Emaue
    ———————————–
    Probably the last guy in the world to apologize to.

  142. This is where republicans lose their edge. It is too country club. If they want the American People to believe it then they must be prepared to say it themselves. They still do not realize what they are up against. Maybe they never will.

  143. I thought that was unusual, too, wbboei, that of all people Joe Wilson supposedly apoligized to Rahm Emanuel thus my comment about the concrete boots.

  144. I suspect it was John Boehner who told him to cool it. He would probably tell him hey joe we said in our rebuttal that we would work with him on a bi partisan bill from scratch and we cannot be credible if we call him a liar, so smooth this thing over.

  145. The Fraud is a liar and really, I am glad Mr Wilson called him out. He stood up there lying over and over and over again. Sometimes you got to call it as you see it. Maybe in all due respect to the office, he could have shouted “untrue”, but one must say he got his point across and yes, in London, the Fraud would be shouted down after the opening statement. We all know he can not hold an intelligent conversation without a telly and he would never be able to defend himself. It would be worth the price of admission.

  146. Wilson is a hero, he’s part of a historical event!

    BRAVO, Mr. Wilson for having the courage and conviction to speak TRUTH to POWER!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hillary looked wonderful tonight. If there was a war of red’s between her and Pelosi, she shined like a diamond compared to the zirconium sitting behind Obama. Yes, I noticed the kisses and the hugs for Hillary. I had the beginning of the speech on but muted the audio. Muting didn’t help much so I switched channels to anything but that…
    Thanks, admin for posting the “Liar” video for those of us who missed it. Shouting LIAR ‘ instantly shattered BO’s credibility like breaking through a glass ceiling slapping everyone back to reality
  147. I think Rahm would like Pooplosi’s position some day, according to Blago. It was talked about. I guess he feels his gangster methods here would be of some use.
  148. CNN “politcal ticker” claims double digit increase in support per poll after speech with 67% now favoring. The y caveat the results by saying that more democrats may have watched than republicans….
  149. Wonder if anyone is whispering in BO’s ear that calling Sarah Palin a liar in front of the congress was not exactly a way to start working across the asile? Or maybe Rahm, Axelrod and Company think that is the way to do it.
  150. The reason I want that liar thing to stick is because I am told that the 47 million uninsured he is talking about DOES include the illegal immigrants, therefore Obama is lying when he calls that charge a lie. If we can open that door, we can get people talking about all the other times he has spoken with a false tongue.
  151. Confloyd, now that’s a scary thought…Rahm as Speaker of the House. Would that make him next in line after the VP to be president?
  152. GretaWire has a vote over asking if you or anyone you know changed their mind about healhcare after Obama’s speech. The No’s have it at 96% to 4%. Sounds like he did a great job of putting everyone to sleep>
  153. CNN “politcal ticker” claims double digit increase in support per poll after speech with 67% now favoring. The y caveat the results by saying that more democrats may have watched than republicans….
    ————————————————–
    Actually, it was 167% and they were all democrats.
  154. wbboei, speaking of that rebuttal, whats up with the rethugs, don’t they have anyone to can’t even come close to a real speech. He was dry, and boring. We need them to come up with a Bill Clinton for heaven’s sakes.
Oh, you are going to clean up “waste, fraud and abuse?” Hell, you couldn’t even properly vet the radical pass of Van Jones or the tax cheating of Timmy Geithner. Clean up your own damn act first before you dare tell us that you are going to magically clean up “waste, fraud and abuse.” Look in the mirror!
    All you did tonight was repackage the vacuous promises you made on the campaign trail. And we know how you honor your promises and commitments. (amen, we sure do, he attacks Hill and McCain during the primaries and now he is trying to ‘sell’ their ideas)
    ***********************************************************
    another interesting point in his ‘lecture’ was when O says “now alot of the details still need to be worked out” and the place erupts in laughter…after hundreds of speeches, please
    **********************************************************
    maybe it was out of ‘protocol’ for wilson to call O a liar, but what gives O the right to call Palin a liar…O is a coward…a sneering, nose in the air coward who hides behind self promoting events and applause…said it before and must say it again…O would be LOST without that teleprompter…he could not even focus down the middle when he said he wanted to talk to the seniors…you just know he was coached to look straight into the camera at those moments and he could not even focus for a few seconds without his pacifier,er, teleprompter
    ***********************************************************
    for this speech, we needed a joint session of congress…give me a break…this man really knows how to trivilize the Presidency…
    Carol, I think Glee will be a season hit…very cute
  156. They have no one with any charisma of speaking ability…another reason why Obama can get away with his lies.. The only real opposition he faces is from within his own party by dems who realize how far out this guy really is…
  157. Hillary withdrawing from the Titanic early on.. is a great idea. Running for Governor- even a better idea. Actually, Hillary could go anywhere and do anything she wants to now that her credentials have exceeded her qualifications for every job except the one she is the most qualified for…
    Let the games begin…
    Thanks for posting Bill at the Cronkite event. I laughed like crazy as Bill thanked OBama for taking the time to attend the Cronkite Memorial.. he shifted into the southern and elongated pauses as the camera turned to Obama he looked solemn, serious with dread of the upcoming make or break speech to be heard in several hours.
    Well now we know how the speech went.. definately, a dud.. especially thanks to Mr Wilson.
  158. Here’s a funny comment from Gretawire, I thought it fit our love of Pooplosi tonight! LOL!
    I thought Pelosi was going to jump the desk to get to BO when he was shaking her hand after his speech. That woman drools when shes close to him.
  159. I got two calls tonight. One from a Republican friend in Trinidad. He was delighted with the speech, because he thinks it was further proof that Obama “couldnt pour piss out of a boot if it had the instructions on the bottom side” as he delicately put it. I spoke to a media analyst in the midwest and she was deeply offended that CNN is apparently posting twitter crap on the scroll bar below the screen. The thing she said to me a half a dozen times is that Obama is a liar. She is a Democrat. Apparently not part of the 167% support group. By the way, dead people vote in those CNN polls too. And why not.
  160. There is only one Bill Clinton. They will not find a Rep or Dem who comes close to his political abilities and speeches.
  161. I thought Pelosi was going to jump the desk to get to BO when he was shaking her hand after his speech. That woman drools when shes close to him.
    Confloyd: it is not drool. It is embalming fluid.
  163. Mrs.Smith, he does doesn’t he, he should run for office. I know he could do a better job than those dried up prunes the rethugs keep putting on.
  164. From BP….I don’t believe this. let the spin begin, as in yesterday when this piece was written!
    CNN Poll: Double-digit post-speech jump for Obama plan
    Posted: September 9th, 2009 11:05 PM ET
    WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two out of three Americans who watched President Barack Obama’s health care reform speech Wednesday night favor his health care plans — a 14-point gain among speech-watchers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll of people who tuned into Obama’s address Wednesday night to a joint session of Congress.
    Sixty-seven percent of people questioned in the survey say the support Obama’s health care reform proposals that the president outlined in his address, with 29 percent opposed. Those figures are almost identical to a poll conducted immediately after Bill Clinton’s health care speech before Congress in September, 1993.
    The audience for the speech appears to be more Democratic than the U.S. population as a whole. Because of this, the results may favor Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tune into the speech. The poll surveyed the opinions of people who watched Wednesday night’s speech, and does not reflect the views of all Americans.
  166. wbboei, speaking of that rebuttal, whats up with the rethugs, don’t they have anyone to can’t even come close to a real speech. He was dry, and boring. We need them to come up with a Bill Clinton for heaven’s sakes.
    If his solutions do not work, if things do not get better, is this charisma thing enough? Does charisma put food on the table or clothes on children’s backs. In the final analysis it is just words, and the republican need to call him on the promises he breaks and respond when he calls their people liars. This gentlemen don’t read other peoples mail approach is self defeating.
  167. Here’s another funny post from the Riverdaughter:
    That was so beautiful, the power of his mighty faux folksy cadence actually reached through the screen and healed the sick. Throw the pills away, your preexisting conditions are gone. We don’t need treatment, all we need is faith in our healing Savior. Of course, you still will have to buy unaffordable insurance plans or face massive tax penalties, but at least now you have your health
  168. From the Riverdaughter, this is what Hillary stance was during the primary:
    Just a refresher about what HRC said:
    Hillary Clinton opposes a market-based, for-profit approach to providing more Americans with health care
    “We have to lower costs, improve quality and cover everybody. What’s important and what I learned in the previous effort is you’ve got to have the political will — a broad coalition of business and labor, doctors, nurses, hospitals, everybody — standing firm when the inevitable attacks come from the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies that don’t want to change they system because they make so much money out of it.”
I know many Doctors who will like what he said about that. Hopefully they won’t drink the KoolAid. I try and check out what they say down here in Texas.
    As I said I was asleep and that Tort Reform woke me up. I thought he was pandering to the right on it personally.
    Well we won’t have to worry about the broad coalition as he has had most of those groups thru the back door paying them off, including my beloved nursing. I write livid emails to ANA, American Nurses Association after every pro obama email. They have stopped responding! Of course SHV is too busy sawing off children’s limbs for $50,000 a leg, or is that an arm, I forget, to be part the payoff.
  173. Gonzotex @ 11:51, this can’t be. He fumbled the pass. It did not get off the ground to anyone except Pooplosi’s crowd.
    True healthcare reform will only succeed IF:
    1. Tort and malpractice laws are reformed;
    2. Billing is streamlined and pricing made transparent, ending systemic support of the AMA owned billing codes (CPT Codes);
    3. The insurance industry is reformed; and
    4. Payment systems are simplified so they align with the growing need for preventive medicine.
    Does ANYONE Believe That President Obama DID NOTTT Sell Out To BIG Insurance Tonight?
    Updated at 11:23 PM
    President Obama only gave “lip service” to the half ass so called Public Option. No details…
    Instead… Mandating that those who now choose NOT to buy shitty overpriced insurance that carries no real benefits to now have to purchase under penalty of IRS FINE, such SHITTY Insurance!
    The propaganda has been sophisticated and I will soon post a tape that will demonstrate where this BS plan came from!
    The reason Congressman Wilson chose to heckle Obama and called him a “Liar” is that President Obama is regarded as WEAK by the opposition… and rightly so!
    THE POINT IS OBAMA HAS BUCKLED UNDER TO BIG BIZNESS FROM THE OUTSET… SELLING OUT TO BILLY TAUSIN for BIG Pharma in the WHITE HOUSE right off the bat!
    President Obama is NOT Liberal… He IS A CORPORATIST! He has sold US out in favor of the Insurance industry, Big Pharma and Corp Health Care.
    If you listened carefully, very little in reality was said. The real meat is that the INSURAnce INDUSTRY IS GUARANTEED TENS OF MILLIONS OF NEW FORCIBLY PAYING CUSTOMERS!
    A few bones thrown “our” way but the middle class is screwed! Try and dispute that?
    A nice speech does not a policy make! President Obama is the greatest Bullshitter of aLLL time and will go down in history as “The Great Capitulator!” :think:
    The “KOOLAID” HAs gone sour folks and tonight is the night that a one term administration was assured! :think:
  176. the repubs should have put someone like Paul Ryan who is at least youthful and appealing…or Tom Coburn who is also a doctor but better than the one they put in there…
    Mrs Smith, there are a lot of people who still have no idea that there is a mandate forcing them to pay to for private insurance to private insurance companies and fines that will have to be paid to the IRS…
    this is still the dirty little secret that the average ‘Joe’ out there has no idea is coming…you have the bots that think a ‘free ride’ is coming and then alot of younger people and also working stiffs that are just not paying attention as ‘we’ are…I would bet the house that if a reporter goes out and questions random populations ‘out there’ in the country, they have no idea that they are going to be forced and it is going to cost them, including Obots…
    I still say that if O and the dems try to ram this thru, once people find out these ‘little, costly details they are unprepared for’ there is going to be more than tea parties in the streets…
    notice O did not mention any details or specifics about IRS fines, etc…if the repubs were smart they would start drilling that point over and over again…essentially we now will be subsidizing private insurance co and still are not allowed to negotiate drug costs…great!
  178. “notice O did not mention any details or specifics about IRS fines, etc…if the repubs were smart they would start drilling that point over and over again…essentially we now will be subsidizing private insurance co and still are not allowed to negotiate drug costs…great!”
    Yes and isn’t that something that sticks in everyone’s craw? Having the IRS as an enforcer putting a lien on your house if you can’t afford to pay the premiums until all the equity is gone in your home and then some…and they own your house for the lack of having the ability to pay HC Premiums to Insurance Cos…and you become another indigent, a statistic in the plan to break and impoverish the Middle Class.
    And if anyone wonders why we call out liars… even if they are presidents, heroes… this is WHY!
    Obama’s HCPlan is diabolical in nature and the death knell to people who have avoided foreclosure and still have jobs.
His nose was up in the air, and when he got to the podium I lip read him tell Ms.Nancy, “lets go”. I wonder who is his cheerleader, who gets him UP for these “life or death” speeches??
    Kinda makes you wonder if Rahm is the cheerleader and a little white powder is his friend that gets him going???
    By MARK MIX
    In the heated debates on health-care reform, not enough attention is being paid to the huge financial windfalls ObamaCare will dole out to unions—or to the provisions in the various bills in Congress that will help bring about the forced unionization of the health-care industry.
    Tucked away in thousands of pages of complex new rules, regulations and mandates are special privileges and giveaways that could have devastating consequences for the health-care sector and the American economy at large.
    The Senate version opens the door to implement forced unionization schemes pursued by former Govs. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois in 2005 and Gray Davis of California in 1999. Both men repaid tremendous political debts to Andy Stern and his Service Employees International Union (SEIU) by reclassifying state-reimbursed in-home health-care (and child-care) contractors as state employees—and forcing them to pay union dues.
    Following this playbook, the Senate bill creates a “personal care attendants workforce advisory panel” that will likely impose union affiliation to qualify for a newly created “community living assistance services and support (class)” reimbursement plan.
    The current House version of ObamaCare (H.R. 3200) goes much further. Section 225(A) grants Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius tremendous discretionary authority to regulate health-care workers “under the public health insurance option.” Monopoly bargaining and compulsory union dues may quickly become a required standard resulting in potentially hundreds of thousands of doctors and nurses across the country being forced into unions.
    Ms. Sebelius will be taking her marching orders from the numerous union officials who are guaranteed seats on the various federal panels (such as the personal care panel mentioned above) charged with recommending health-care policies. Big Labor will play a central role in directing federal health-care policy affecting hundreds of thousands of doctors, surgeons and nurses.
    Consider Kaiser Permanente, the giant, managed-care organization that has since 1997 proudly touted its labor-management “partnership” in scores of workplaces. Union officials play an essentially co-equal role in running many Kaiser facilities. AFL-CIO President John Sweeney called the Kaiser plan “a framework for what every health care delivery system should do” at a July 24 health-care forum outside of Washington, D.C.
    The House bill has a $10 billion provision to bail out insolvent union health-care plans. It also creates a lucrative professional-development grant program for health-care workers that effectively blackballs nonunion medical facilities from participation. The training funds in this program must be administered jointly with a labor organization—a scenario not unlike the U.S. Department of Labor’s grants for construction apprenticeship programs, which have turned into a cash cow for construction industry union officials on the order of hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
    There’s more. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus has suggested that the federal government could pay for health-care reform by taxing American workers’ existing health-care benefits—but he would exempt union-negotiated health-care plans. Under Mr. Baucus’s scheme, the government could impose costs of up to $20,000 per employee on nonunion businesses already struggling to afford health care plans.
    Mr. Baucus’s proposal would give union officials another tool to pressure employers into turning over their employees to Big Labor. Rather than provide the lavish benefits required by Obamacare, employers could allow a union to come in and negotiate less costly benefits than would otherwise be required. Such plans could be continuously exempted.
    Americans are unlikely to support granting unions more power than they already have in the health-care field. History shows union bosses could abuse their power to shut down medical facilities with sick-outs and strikes; force doctors, nurses and in-home care providers to abandon their patients; dictate terms and conditions of employment; and impose a failed, Detroit-style management model on the entire health-care
    Dollar touches fresh low for 2009 vs. euro
    Dollar hits fresh lows for year vs. euro, other major currencies, extending decline post G-20
    By Tali Arbel, AP Business Writer
    On Wednesday September 9, 2009, 5:09 pm EDT
    Buzz up! 9 Print.NEW YORK (AP) — The dollar touched a fresh low for 2009 against the euro at $1.46 and reached its lowest point in more than a year against several other currencies Wednesday, extending its declines this week.
    Investors have been favoring foreign currencies in the aftermath of a commitment by the financial leaders of the Group of 20 to keep spending and leave interest rates low in order to propel an economic recovery. Statements by a Chinese official warning that Federal Reserve policy will trigger inflation, hurting the dollar and the value of China’s reserves, have also renewed fears of reserve diversification, analysts say.
    China and Russia have been vocal this year about the need to diversify reserves away from the dollar as its value has dropped. Chinese officials have called for the creation of a new global reserve currency by the International Monetary Fund.
    Meanwhile, news that economic activity is stabilizing or improving in most of the U.S. encouraged investors to leave the safe haven of the U.S. currency in favor of riskier assets. The Federal Reserve’s snapshot Wednesday of economic conditions backs predictions by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and most other analysts that the economy has started to grow again in the current quarter.
    The 16-nation euro rose as high as $1.4600 in morning trading, its highest level this year, from $1.4490 late Tuesday. It later bought $1.4542 in late afternoon trading. The buck slipped to 92.13 Japanese yen from 92.32 yen after hitting a seven-month low of 91.59 yen. The British pound rose to $1.6530 from $1.6487.
    The dollar index fell as low as 76.81 against a basket of six major world currencies that includes the euro, yen, Canadian dollar, British pound, Swedish krona and Swiss franc. That’s its lowest level since last September.
    It’s “a day to buy foreign currencies,” said Brown Brothers Harriman analysts in a research note Wednesday.
    U.S. investors are diversifying their portfolios into riskier currencies and stocks, said UBS analyst Geoffrey Yu. UBS cut its outlook for the dollar. The firm now expects the euro to trade at $1.45 this month and $1.35 over the next three months, up from previous estimates of $1.40 and $1.30, respectively.
    Stock markets have been rising steadily since the G-20 finance officials pledged to maintain government spending, low interest rates and expansion of the money supply in order to buck up the global economy.
    Those moves could help boost economic activity and liquidity in financial markets, but can weigh on the value of a currency. The current U.S. rate near zero means investors can earn better returns on their funds in countries with higher yields, such as, for example, Poland, Turkey, Brazil and Australia.
    On Wednesday, the Australian dollar hit a 13-month high of 86.68 U.S. cents, as did the New Zealand dollar at 70.07 U.S. cents. The dollar rose to 1.8380 Brazilian reals from 1.8260 reals late Tuesday.
    All three are commodity-backed currencies, or currencies of countries whose economies rely heavily on exports of commodities. A strong economy would use more commodities, for example in factories and transportation.
    The price of oil rose 20 cents to $71.31 on the New York Mercantile Exchange Wednesday after jumping more than $3 on Tuesday. Gold prices, meanwhile, hovered just below $1,000 an ounce.
    Hillary Clinton is said to be increasingly frustrated with her lack of authority as secretary of state and resentful of the glacial pace of the White House vetting process of her choices.
    “President Obama’s picks fly in even if they didn’t pay their taxes. But her picks take forever,” noted one Democrat. “Plus, she has no real clout over Holbrooke or Mitchell.”
    Richard Holbrooke is Obama’s “special representative” for Afghanistan and Pakistan. George Mitchell is “special envoy” to the Middle East.
    Clinton is said to be considering quitting to retake her old US Senate seat now held by Kristin Gillibrand — or running for governor, as one rumor has it.
    “Her argument will be that Gillibrand is in danger of losing the seat to the Republicans,” said a source.
    But Gillibrand won’t voluntarily step aside, unlike Rep. Nita Lowey, whom Clinton nudged out of the race in 2000.
    “You couldn’t blow Gillibrand out of that seat with dynamite,” said our source.
    Clinton’s rep did not get back to us by deadline.
  189. re CNN poll:
    The audience for the speech appears to be more Democratic than the U.S. population as a whole. Because of this, the results may favor Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tune into the speech. The poll surveyed the opinions of people who watched Wednesday night’s speech, and does not reflect the views of all Americans.
    ========================
    Well, then, they need to adjust the results as is usually done. Count how many Republicans were for or against, then figure results according to how many Republicans are in the country, not how many watched the speech.
    The article on unions is very misleading. I don’t know where you picked that up, but I wouldn’t give up my union for anything. I have great benefits, working conditions, employee rights, etc. It is BECAUSE of the union that I have what I have. Without unions, wages would be lower. there would be forced overtime, no rights to grievance procedures, no benefits, and all the awful things that one can think of. Patient ratios in CA came about because of the dogged work of Nurses Unions, not by the grace of employees and the hospital associations. There are postive and negative things about unions, but I believe that the positive outweigh the negative-at least in my situation.
  196. Not caring for the side-show aspects of yesterday’s circus, I am intrigued by what will happen now. The “plan”, for lack of a better term, outlined, mostly in broad strokes by bo, does not even remotely resemble ANY of the bills currently out there. This means that they, despite the claims that “80% of what is in the bill is agreed on by both sides”, are back to square 1; the actual mechanism for of achieving the agreed upon general goals is NOT agreed upon. New compromises would seem to alienate liberals while doing little to attract conservatives. The current house and senate bills, such as they are, are irreconcilable and new and improved versions have no guarantee of being any better.
    In addition, bo’s upcoming “road show” to promote his “plan” is going to take time and energy from the other big issue of the moment, Afghanistan, and the news on the ground will serve to control his actions, rather than the converse.
    Did I mention unemployment promises to enter double-digit territory as we approach the holiday shopping season?
  197. The New York Post article on Hillary leaving SOS is a jumble of old innuendo and quotes taken out of context from articles I have read in the past.     Wilson apologized shortly after the speech for how he acted out: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the healthcare bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”
    Actually, that is better than not apologizing at all. Here is why:
    1. first, it allowed him to repeat the charge that Obama is lying about health care. (Note: in trial practice this technique is called looping–you incorportate a good answer into the next question, so the jury hears it twice.)
    2. second, it allowed him to show the world that unlike Rahm Emanuel, he is not a barbarian but a civilized man.
    3. third, by highlighting that lie he cut Bambi off at the pass, from giving health care to illegals, which would have happened. Now if Bambi signs a bill with that provision in it the word liar will reverberate.
    4. fourth, I think he hung the label on Mr. Obama, by limiting his apology to the protocol, not the content.
  210. Democratic Senators Summoned to White House
    September 10, 2009
    ABC News has learned that President Obama will be meeting with 16 Democratic senators (and one “Independent Democrat”) this afternoon at the White House.
    They are: Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, Mark Warner of Virginia, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Evan Bayh of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Tom Carper of Delaware, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Mark Begich of Alaska, Mark Udall and Michael Bennet of Colorado, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Bill Nelson of Florida, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, and Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.
    The meeting is scheduled for 4:15 pm ET, in the Cabinet Room.
    Many of these senators have expressed concern about if not downright opposition to key elements of President Obama’s health care proposals, particularly his push for a government-run public health care option to compete with private insurers to drive down costs.
    White House knocks Fox for choosing ‘Dance’ over Obama
    September 10, 2009
    In an interview with Fox News early Wednesday to plug President Obama’s primetime speech on health care reform, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs made a point to remind viewers that Fox’s broadcast network was again alone among all broadcast networks (except for The CW – which has no news division) in its decision not to carry the address live.
    “I do hope the viewers of Fox will find a way to watch the speech tonight,” Gibbs said while appearing on Fox News. “I know that the network, instead of dealing with the reality of millions of people on health insurance reform, have decided to show a reality show called something like, ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ I do hope that people will check into the reality of what’s going on in America rather than the distraction of a reality TV show.”
    There was no way Fox’s broadcast network was going to scrap Wednesday’s heavily-advertised night of season premieres, which launched with the first-ever non-summer edition of “Dance” and the debut of its highly-anticipated comedy series “Glee.”
    Unlike NBC, CBS and ABC, all of whom carried Obama’s speech live, Fox does not have a dedicated news division, and regularly leaves coverage of primetime speeches, Republican or Democrat, to its cable arm Fox News.
    The Fox network also skipped Obama’s July 22 speech on health care. During Wednesday’s “Dance” premiere, an on-screen graphic alerted viewers that the president’s address to the joint session of Congress was available on the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.
    And she’s not running in 2012 either – unless by some remote chance Obama isn’t on the ticket. She’d never challenge an incumbent president of her own party. I believe 2016 isn’t out of the question, though.
  213. I agree with you about the New York Post article. They have been trying to create trouble for her ever since the days of the Just Hillary blog, which they not so secretly financed. It is interesting too that both of those comments that one and the one from the Weekly Standard come from Republican periodicals, and it is unlikely that her people would be speaking directly to those sources. Consequently, it is hearsay at best. But the governorship makes some sense, so I would keep that possibility in mind and rule it in or out based on future developments. The only thing I feel relatively certain about in my own mind at least is that 2016 is not a realistic possibility.     youtube.com/watch?v=nVn4FD2Ycww
    h…. blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2009/09/rep-joe-wilsons-hot-on-the-internet.html
    Will Rep. Joe Wilson become a folk hero after accusing Obama of lying during his speech before Congress?
    The five-term Republican from South Carolina may have apologized for what is being called his “outburst” but Americans are seeking out more information about Wilson as evidenced by Google trends on Thursday. His name appeared in seventh place among the top 100 as “rep joe wilson south carolina.”
    “Joe Wilson” was the top trending topic on Twitter as lawmakers and the public commented.
    One of the messages on Wilson’s Facebook page may be an indication of Wilson’s new hero status. It read:
    I wish I had a Representative with your courage and wisdom…You go Joe!!! America needs more congressmen and women like you.”
    In a time when America is so disgusted with Congress which is knee-deep in excusing corruption among its members and that has a 37% approval rating, Wilson may surprise the Democrats by becoming a folk hero because he was saying what many Americans are thinking.
  227. When I read articles like this one I realize how superior the American People are to these servants of special interests we call politicians. We elect them to represent our interests, and with the exception of Hillary and a few others, they betray our interests.     ——————————————–
    Obama Health Care, etc.
    By Thomas Sears MD FACC on September 10, 2009 at 12:00 PM in Current Affairs
    From a Cardiologist who practices in the midwest and, sadly, is Larry’s Brother-in-Law (sad for Tom because he has to put up with me, LJ):
    To me, the ‘big speech was just as scary as it has been these past weeks. Virtually all of the criticisms (from both sides of the aisle) continue to be unanswered, especially for those of us who actually work in this hobbled system.
    To begin with, he made a statement that he wouldn’t sign any bill that would add to the debt….but then, throughout the entire speech was unable or refused to say how this thing will be paid for. He made some reference to insuring another 5% of the persons not now insured and how their premiums would help, but that issue has already been analyzed and that increase in premiums would not pay for much of anything. In short, during the entire 45 minutes there was no explanation how this would be paid for. His own advisors have suggested that it will cost a trillion dollars…and he didn’t refer to that information in any way.
    Regarding ‘end of life’ issues, he suggested that the government would pay certain doctors to discuss this with patients….a bit insulting to me since we talk end of life issues with our patients already; the government must believe that we are inadequate. This is not just a small insult.
    He didn’t support encouraging or requiring insurance comptetition across state lines even though he mentioned the problem.
    He suggested a ‘fine’ for companies who didn’t provide insurance options for their employees…this fine would amount (according to him) to 8% of revenues. What he didn’t acknowledge is that health care coverage averages far greater than this for companies that provide it….thus a company could and economically should just pay the fine; to provide coverage often amounts to 10-15% of revenues…in other words, there would be an incentive for just paying the fine and dodging the health care coverage entirely.
    He completely dodged the issue of reducing health care excesses. He made a comment about defensive medicine, but implied that it ‘may’ be responsible for increased costs…yet went only so far as endorsing what Bush proposed…a ’study’ to see if this were really true when we all know it IS true and has been analyzed already. In other words as far as tort-reform…nada.
    Obama totally dodged the fact that government controlled health care does NOT improve outcomes. There exists NO believable data that government control of any program, anywhere in the world, improves outcomes. Specifically, he did not note that those countries who have government health care are NOT leaders in the major killers and problems of today, namely heart disease, cancer, pre and post natal care, and diseases/disabilities of seniors. While he mentioned bureaucratic decisions regarding health care, he offered no explanation how this system would work; in fact, the bill itself suggests that triage and therapeutic decisions will be made by committees of appointed persons. There is no explanation regarding the qualifications of these individuals and there is no guarantee that, even if they are doctors, that they will be qualified. Medicare and insurance companies are loaded with totally unqualified ‘doctors’ who don’t even understand the basics of medical care. We deal with this on a daily basis. They seem totally incapable of keeping abreast of current practice. This is especially true in heart disease and utilization of specialized diagnostic procedures designed to improve diagnostic and hence, therapeutic decision-making. Coventry would be a prime example of the incompetence of the triage system of these insurance companies who appear to desire medical practice ‘on the cheap’ without regard to quality. Imagine the results should the government hook up with that company.
    There was no explanation how increased coverage and supposed increased quality of care is accomplished without increased cost….without curbs on the manufacturers and their profit margins. Improved technology has never, in any industry, come with the gift of decrease in expenditure. The same is true of the pharmaceutical companies. In fact there was no explanation in the entire speech how there were to be any savings. There has never been any….ANY…government program of any kind that saved any money! In fact it appears to me that some or much of the money earmarked for this program will come from the social security chest which is already jeopardized. After that…it’s taxes. When taxes go up…spending goes down. When spending goes down in the private sector, businesses suffer and terminate their operations. The government already owns the largest part of the automotive industry. How much more do we wish to see under government control. Look up the definition of Fascism and Communism. We seem to be not even pausing at the Socialism rest-stop, but continuing to the more radical without even realizing it. And if we protest, we are labeled as ’stupid’ by ‘important’ persons such as Bill Mahr, Kieth Obermann, Pelosi, and the media.
    All his comments regarding our health care system were negative. He seems to think that all of us would rather allow a disease to progress to the most expensive of options and therefore we are all dishonest. I recollect he recently accused doctors of ignoring diabetes so they could amputate a limb (he was so ill-informed that he suggested that a doc could make $30,000-50,000 from a limb amputation and would ignore treatment or education of the patient to accomplish this bonus….the real figure is about $500-700 with a reimbursement only after an average of 120 days). Yet, he made no comment about the exhorbitant profits realized by the pharmaceutical companies. Over the past decade the largest increase in health care costs to the individual consumer have been in the realm of pharmaceutical costs…not hospitalizations or operations or catheterizations, etc….but the drugs with which we need to treat these people. Take a look at all the patent medicines we give people…on average they cost between $50 and $120 per month for the individual medications….and they are all marked up about 50-60 fold compared to their eventual generic cost to pharmacies.
    Obama promised….yes…repeatedly promised…that discussions regarding health care costs would not be back-room deals and that they would be broadcast on C-span. The reality is that there were NO broadcasts on C-Span regarding the pharmaceutical discussions. In the end, those companies gave up nearly nothing as their contribution to the problem. The number quoted is impressive, but represents absolutely NO concession by those companies at all….and Obama considers it a victory even when he had his original paltry number was almost cut in half and spread out over nearly a decade instead of any immediate contribution. This is despite obscene profits by those industries over 2-3 decades. It is a fact that the pharmaceutical companies and the medical device companies’ greed is so great that one of their responses already is the elimination of thousands of mid and low-level white-collar jobs (sales representatives and educational directors) in anticipation of a depressed market. So, a loss-of-jobs result is already rampant in that industry. There can be no reason other than maintenance of a very high profit margin which, although acceptable in a capitalistic market, shows very little concern for the economy in general. In my personal experience, knowing many of these persons, most have not yet re-entered the job market after nearly 6 months. This represents a significant and potentially damaging loss of talent and training….yet the cost to the patient for consumption of these devices and drugs has not diminished!
    This bill is off target, is too far-reaching, and is dangerous in that it turns over control of the issue to the government which has been unable through the course of history to avoid screwing up every program it has embarked upon…there has never been a government program that has failed to exceed it’s predicted costs. This bill is not even understood in detail by those who support it. It does not clearly solve the problems which are basic to the solution. Take a poll of the legislators who support the bill….how many earmarks are in the bill? Has anyone counted? Are there none? Are there a dozen? Are there more than a hundred? The most profitable solutions in big business and small business are small, simple, and unencumbered. I don’t believe this bill satisfies any of those stipulations. In fact, I believe that this bill confers unlimited powers on the government regarding the most important of all decisions for those who participate in programs designed to protect their health care costs. I believe this bill makes those who take responsibility for their own health care, responsible for the cost of those who choose to have someone else pay for their care. While, in a certain respect that is the way things are now, this bill ensures that those of us who take responsibility will pay more and have less personal directive.
    Obama is a good speaker. He touches all the emotional issues well. But he does so without substance. And, so far, he has failed to deliver on any single campaign promise. He is dismantling our intelligence community so we’ll have to just take a guess as to our enemies’ plans. He is cheapening space exploration and that will result in a loss of science. He has tagged onto things he knows nothing about such as ‘global warming’…an occurrance which simply isn’t supported by science. He has hired ‘czars’ rather than appointees for his cabinet so that they will not have to undergo congressional scrutiny….and now one of them has been found out and has resigned under pressure. He hasn’t supported any energy policy yet. He has ordered the closing of Guantanamo terrorist prison….and hasn’t figured out where he’s going to put the prisoners. He has increased the debt incredibly…more than any other president in history…and just passes that by….while pardoning guilty parties. He appears to be racing to be the most ineffectual president since Carter and the difference is that he has none of the good qualities of Carter.
    Seems to me he was elected not because he has done anything (in fact he hasn’t done anything even before he was elected…non-military, no record of scholarship, no confirmation of success in business, no record of financial or economic prowess, no experience even near the level of CEO in anything, a literal non-attendance record as an elected official) was elected on a ‘hope’ emotion…and appears to be wishing things rather than coming up with realistic, constructive, and well designed programs. In fact…in now nearly 9 months in office….with a Democratic congress and senate…he hasn’t done anything of significance. He has taken a lot of vacations and bought a dog. Why does it not bother liberals that we know nothing about this president? He was close friends with persons who hate our country…this doesn’t seem to bother democrats. Why doesn’t that raise a little bit of concern? He acquired a great deal of money without explanation. Why doesn’t that raise an eyebrow?
    In the past 9 months our position in the Afghan war has deteriorated immensely. He appears to be uninvolved. I haven’t read anything indicating he is concentrating on that issue. How many military bases has he visited? In his campaign he asserted that the reclamation and rebuilding of the gulf coast destroyed by Katrina would be a priority on a daily basis in his administration. After 9 months there hasn’t been any relief on this issue….nothing.
    So, this amounts to some of my concerns. I don’t know who this guy is. He hasn’t done anything and the health care bill is so flawed and so little studied with so little data to support it’s implementation that I just can’t believe anybody in either party is taking it seriously. It’s like the brand-new college grad who want’s the loan for the million dollar house when he doesn’t even have a job yet….and because he’s a good speech-giver, someone is going to give him the loan…not realizing that the payments will be spread out on the rest of the community. Who is Obama? Do you really know? You knew exactly who McCain was. We don’t even know Obama yet he was voted into the presidency knowing he comes from the most corrupt areas of the country politically and did nothing of consequence in the Senate. He even had the chair of a committee and (it was noted repeatedly on this blog during the campaign) never called a meeting. He was absent the majority of his voting opportunities….and people put him in the presidency! It seems incredible to me….a bad dream! He doesn’t even have the experience of running even a small company!….and he was elected. To me something is terribly wrong.
    In summary, this health care bill is strikingly inept….as Obama’s presidency has been. Passage of this bill will be the most confusing and poorly planned program in the history of the country.
    To make the statements above labels me as ’stupid’. I guess I am, but I happen to work in this healthcare industry and I see nothing but increased bureaucracy telling me, as a clinician, what to do.
  228. my two cents…Hillary will continue to be one of the best SOS ever…she is not a quitter…and from her POV, she has a great job…she has international respect, is, for the most part, out of the ‘politics’ of the O admin…and is our world ambassador of good will and peace…and steady, stable common sense…she has, in a way, her own royalty cache, in the most humanistic terms…
    I am holding out for the Nobel Peace award for her…
    NY will always be there…she may even opt out of elective politics…
    I think Hillary is definitely deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. Unfortunately, I also think that obama’s mob will still that prize away from her for their king.
  230. I got a partial scoop of what Beck will be peddaling tonight. They are running a video of some acorn offices in Baltimore that are set up to help people with their income taxes and getting housing loans and etc.
    They have on tape an Acorn officers discussing how to set a loan for a house for the use of prostition. This is what I get from the tape. I guess if they take down Acorn, they can change the outcome of 2012, so I guess this is how Beck can say this.
  231. Jan, I hear you and I would not put it past them…maybe karma will intervene…
    …obviously, she is the one doing the work, just look at that trip to Africa…O pops in for a photo opp, Hillary puts her life on the line and travels to the most dangerous villages all over the continent…perhaps the Nobel people will see through the O fluff of reading prepared speeches written by others…and go for the heart and soul…and Hillary’s legacy, dating way back to Beijing…
  232. Somebody who is good could memorialize this Joe Wilson thing in a folks song or something. This is a poor example of what I am talking about.
    THE LIAR
    (To the tune of They Call The Wind Mariah)
    The liar, the liar
    He called Barack “The Liar”
    Away out here
    They’ve got a name
    For dims and dumbs and liars
    The dim is Reid
    The dumb Poop–z
    And they call Barack “The Liar”
    The Liar spreads the crap around
    Sets peaceful folks on fire
    Big business gets his fans to strike
    At those who just inquire
    When all seemed lost to most of us
    And we sat there on fire
    Barack let loose a cloud of smoke
    And Joe Wilson said you liar
    You Liar, you liar
    He called Barack The Liar
    Barack recoiled a second or two
    Not knowing how to answer
    Poop-z was shocked
    Mo scowled back
    Cause he called Barack “The Liar”
    In darkest times they say its dawn
    And now the world will answer
    That one man stood against Barack
    And he called Barack a liar/
  234. Well, I have finally figured what takes the government (state or federal) so long to get anything done. I mean it takes months, sometimes even years. Mostly you the reason is Gridlock, but NO it isn’t the (age old WAR between the Parties) it because they are too busy screwing the lobbyists. I don’t mean getting payback either. One commentator said boy I never figured that the age old saying “in bed with lobbyists” meant literally in bed with them.
    Folks Washington D.C. is the biggest orgie site in the whole United States, second only to the state government houses.
    im, nós podemos!
    Tue, 09/08/2009 – 7:52am
    “Sim, nós podemos!” is Portuguese for “yes we can!”. I bet Brazilians are going to hear a lot of that really soon. When I wondered why Lula had recently started blogging, I didn’t expect the answer to be so banal. Apparently, Lula’s Brazilian Workers Party has now turned to Blue State Digital, a DC-based Internet strategy firm credited with much of Obama’s new media success, for advice on getting Dilma Rouseff, Lula’s uncharismatic chief of staff, succeed him as president. Peter Giangreco, who led Obama’s direct marketing, is also Brazil-bound.
    I bet their efforts will flounder. What Lula and his staff probably do not understand is that even the Internet can’t make dull candidates more exciting. For Blue State Digital’s efforts to succeed, they’d need start with a candidate that has Obama’s life story. If you start with someone who lacks charisma and is dull, even American consultants won’t be of much help. German politicians have just discovered that in their own electoral campaign; commenting on Germany’s lackluster social media experiment, Reuters was right on the money: “no amount of innovative tactics can compensate for a lack of substance.”
  236. I think we need to make it federal law, that only 50ish, female, fat can be lobbyists, that would solve a host of problems with our government and give jobs to those that are having trouble finding one. Two problems solved with the stroke on a pen!
  238. Interesting. Pretty small outfit. 5 years in business. Does not mention politics. Also it is a limited liability corporation. As you can see from the above, they are trying to go international. I suspect this is the company and they probably designed Obama’s website. They may be scrubbers too. Hard to tell. It is almost like they were created for the campaign. Makes you wonder where the startup money came from. By now I suspect the Republicans have a firm similiar to this. I have no idea who that might be. Everybody learns from everybody else. The above article from Foreign Affairs predicts the Brazilian venture will not be a successful one.
  239. We had Peter Dauo and he always impressed me. I don’t know what to think about these guys. Their claim to success may be more attributable to the mood of the country etc. as the above article suggests that to what they can do as opposed to other factors. And most likely that will only work once. It is just a technology. There are probably others out of India or China who could run circles around them. That is where most of this work will migrate over time in a free market environment which both parties favor because the elites who control them favor it. Microsoft has three campuses–and issues degrees recognized by government. One is in Redmond Washington, one is in London and one is in China. The one in China is by far the most productive.
  240. Perhaps this is why Hillary is going to take over Afganistan. I read yesterday somewhere that she was making Afganistan her center point in the months to come.
    So that story I referenced working on below is this account from two ArmorGroup whistleblowers. A representative sample:
    Perhaps most seriously, Gordon said that he found out that both guards and even ArmorGroup program manager Nick Du Plessis were regularly frequenting brothels in Kabul. “Many of the prostitutes in Kabul are young Chinese girls who were taken against their will to Kabul for sexual exploitation,” Gordon said. Federal contracting regulations designed to support the Trafficking in Victims Protection Act prevents contractors from “procuring commercial sex acts during the period of performance of the contract,” meaning that ArmorGroup could lose its contract if State learned of the violation. Yet Gordon’s lawsuit alleges he was shut out of an investigation into the solicitation of prostitutes at the behest of Armor Group’s London-based parent company, despite recurring evidence that ArmorGroup employees continued to solicit prostitutes and perhaps even run their own prostitution services. A trainee boasted to Gordon “that he could purchase a girl for $20,000 and turn a profit after a month.”
    This company still holds a $189 million contract to protect the U.S. embassy in Kabul. Still. I cannot get a State Department response to the basic question of why that is
    Israelis want peace but won’t be suckers – Netanyahu
    Thu Sep 10, 2009
    JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday before talks with a U.S. envoy seeking a freeze in Jewish settlement activity that Israelis would compromise for peace but were “not ready to be suckers.” Addressing supporters of his right-wing Likud party, Netanyahu said he would insist that settlers be permitted to “live normal lives,” a euphemism for accommodating what he sees as “natural growth” in the enclaves built in occupied land.
    Netanyahu’s remarks in Tel Aviv came as Washington’s envoy, George Mitchell, was due at the weekend to try and finalise a deal for a possible meeting at the United Nations General Assembly this month of Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and U.S. President Barack Obama.
    Netanyahu, whose refusal so far to stop settlement activity has led to a rare Israeli rift with Washington, said as he toasted the Jewish New Year that settlers were “good and loyal citizens of Israel. You deserve to live normal lives.” Israel would back diplomatic efforts but “permit you (settlers) to live normal lives,” Netanyahu said in Tel Aviv. He said Israel wanted peace, but “we are not ready to be suckers.”
    Some 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank, land which Israel captured in a 1967 war and Palestinians seek for a state, and Arab East Jerusalem, which Israel has annexed as part of its capital in a move not recognized internationally. Palestinians, who number about three million in the West Bank, say settlements deprive them of land for a viable country.
    Abbas has demanded a halt to settlement activity before peace talks with Israel, stalled since December, may resume, citing a 2003 peace “road map” backed by Western countries that calls for a halt to the settlements as well as Palestinian measures to prevent violence against Israel.
    U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed “deep concern” when Israel announced Wednesday it had approved construction of 455 additional settler homes, in a move Israeli officials said could pave the way for a settlement moratorium later on. Ban said in a statement that settlement building was “contrary to international law.” The World Court has deemed the settlements are illegal. Israel disputes this.
    Turning to economics, Netanyahu, a former finance minister, said Israel had not yet emerged totally from a crisis of the past year, adding “but we are on the right path.”
    Israel’s central bank raised the key lending rate last month for the fist time in more than a year, a move seen as reflecting indicators of new economic growth. The rate was moved up by a quarter point to 0.75 percent.
    Netanyahu said that Israel, which passed its first two-year budget this summer, was “considering” the possibility of doing the same for fiscal 2011-2012 in the interest of generating greater economic stability.
  243. The whole world is ‘concerned” about settlements where decent , god fearing people live and work. Yet, the whole world seems indifferent to Arab/Muslims atrocities, the war in Afghanistan, and most of all a nuclear Iran….predictable, but nonetheless disturbing.
  244. Obama’s blinders on Israel
    September 10, 2009
    “President Obama revealed this week that his White House advisor Rahm Emanuel, whose father was an Israeli and part of the underground resistance movement under the British Mandate, tells him everything he needs to know about Israel.”
    The same Obama, who is warming up relations with all of America’s enemies, has become increasingly confrontational with Israel and with U.S. Jewry. He has lost all his popularity with Israel and is losing it with U.S. Jews, by his statements comparing Israel with Nazi Germany and by suddenly calling parts of Jerusalem “settlements” and all settlements illegal (israelnationalnews.com/ Arutz-7, 7/31). Enemy approval of Obama’s appeasement is temporary.
    The opinions of Rahm Emanuel’s father are not relevant to evaluating the son, just as they are not for PM Netanyah’s father or leftist Avraham Burg’s father.
    Hearing everything about Israel from one source is imprudent. It is especially unwise when that source is radical and his policies have failed. Thus, Rahm got Pres. Clinton to get Rabin to shake hands with Arafat, but that led to thousands of terrorist murders and no progress toward peace.
    And why would it be so unthinkable Hillary would leave the SOS position for the NY Governorship? Is her job worth the possibility of a successful assassination attempt on her life?
    We don’t really know all the details of how close she came in Kenya to being assassinated do we?
  247. Well, maybe she was upset when she was interviewed by the male reporter, maybe it was the assassination attempt??
    Its probably all a cover-up.
  249. Bibi is the only world leader who makes sense to me anymore. He is what the used to call a realist. Not to be confused with our own realist who is also a realist but not or not yet as least a world leader but makes more sense than most leaders to day, as does bibi.
