Imagine the disordered clanging today in what passes for Barack Obama’s mind:
(1) Michael Jackson’s circus death reminds Obama that even celebrities die;
(2) Governor Sarah Palin, mocked and derided for a news conference on the Friday before the July 4th holiday, continues to dominate the news and commentary and recalls the Hollywood adage that all publicity is good publicity, as long as they spell your name right;
(3) Robert S. McNamara, once one of the glorified and praised “best and the brightest” dies an ignominious death haunted by all the harm the cerebral “best and the brightest” did to the nation – “Barack Obama might take a close look at McNamara’s obituaries and note that he, too, is the whiz kid of his day.”;
(4)Obama insulted Vladimir Putin regarding the Cold War and yesterday Vladimir Putin rejected the silly frat boy “charms” of silly Obama and proceeded to lecture Obama for an hour on the Cold War. The Russians are aware of Obama’s increasing weakness and, in their words, that “Obama now acutely needs a visible and tangible foreign policy success” so they will mock Obama to his face and run him over by “combine harvesters“, while getting what they want and giving Obama very little other than his craved for publicity stunts and signings.
But it is the economy, the economy that will not respond to Obama’s flim-flam charms, and publicity stunt lies, and the spend spend spend wastrel politics, that rattles Obama’s “mind” the most.
Woe to Americans.

In a little noticed article from the past few days we learn about a little noticed study from several months ago:
Nonetheless, a little-noticed study the Labor Department released several months ago found that the benefits of the biggest federal job training program were “small or nonexistent” for laid-off workers. It showed little difference in earnings and the chances of being rehired between laid-off people who had been retrained and those who had not.
Unemployed Americans continue to be flim-flammed with the notion that job training programs will overcome the disaster which is the Obama economic “plan” and “stimulus” scam. In anecdote after anecdote the unemployed are fed false hopes as the economic waters rise above nose level:
The industry where Mr. Hutchins worked for 25 years has shriveled. The courses in computer-aided design that he finished last year in his initial effort at retraining failed to lead to employment. “I’m looking for a job that will give me some type of a future,” he said.
Tens of thousands of laid-off workers like Mr. Hutchins have turned to retraining as a lifeline. Yet for all the popularity of these government-financed programs, there are questions about whether they actually work, even as President Obama’s stimulus plan directs $1.4 billion more to retraining and other services for people who have lost their jobs.
In Michigan, where the unemployment rate in May was 14.1 percent, the nation’s highest, 78,000 people are enrolled in the state’s No Worker Left Behind program and 7,800 are on the waiting list. At the Michigan Works job center here, where Mr. Hutchins applied for retraining money, the wait to attend an orientation session is up to two months.
Obama’s “No Worker Left Behind” is less successful than the failure which was George W. Bush’s “No Child Left Behind”.
Americans are facing what James Pinkerton calls “Obama’s Katrina”:
Unemployment is 9.5 percent and rising fast, certain to go higher than 10 percent. And what is the federal government doing about it? Not much. And so House Republican Leader John Boehner makes a good point when he asks, “Where are the jobs?”
Obama will spend, spend, spend to little effect other than his glorification.
To be sure, Obama’s federal government will spend a lot of money. The feds are asking for $3.5 trillion for fiscal year 2010, and that’s not counting the $787 billion “stimulus” package, as well as trillions in funny-money income transfers to big banks–including such improbable “banks” as General Electric, parent company to NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC–through shadowy organizations, such as the Federal Reserve Bank and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Hillary hater and Obama lover Frank Rich continues to praise Obama but the dense Rich does not follow the logic of his own argument that Obama is a disaster. Rich writes about the “grand backdrop of business-as-usual at the top of the pyramid that we learned at week’s end that the speed of job losses is accelerating again.” Rich continues to praise Obama and ignoring reality with such sentences like: The Obama administration’s response to the economic crisis is rapidly facing its own stress tests. And Frank Rich sounds like a very old Big Pink article indeed when he finally writes:
Should we have a jobless recovery or, worse, a second-wave recession like the one that blindsided F.D.R. in 1937, it will be as catastrophic for the Democrats as it will be for the country.
On May 27, more than three months after President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 into law, USA Today reported that a grand total of $2 million of stimulus money had spent in Michigan, the hard-hit state with the nation’s highest unemployment rate. That works out to 21 cents per Michigander. How much stimulus is that?
And just this morning, The Big Money reports that only $55 billion of the $400 billion in non-tax-break stimulus money has been spent. Jobless Americans might ask: What are you waiting for? Indeed, every American might ask the same question. Because all Americans would benefit from new roads, new train tracks, new windmills–anything at all.
Pinkerton is confused about why so little “stimulus” money has been spent. We wrote before it happened that the “stimulus” scam was not related to the economy but rather all that “stimulus” money was in reality a huge slush fund to benefit Dimocrats in the 2010 elections. The unemployed will be damned.
Franklin Roosevelt and FDR Democrats knew the value of jobs. Not so the new fangled Obama Dimocrats.
By contrast, today’s Democrats are not really interested in building things. They are demonstrably more interested in bailing out banks, and keeping environmentalists happy. Bankers, of course, deal in intangibles; they make money without regard to where physical goods are manufactured–although bankers know that goods are likely to be cheaper in China, so that’s their preference. [snip]
And if that’s the goal, so what if unemployment rises? So what if the real economy contracts? That’s a small price to pay for elite Democrats, who hold those other, non-productive green objectives closer to their hearts.
Thus the “cap-and-trade” legislation, which passed two weeks ago in the House of Representatives, is a perfect exemplar of the modern Democratic mindset: The green environmentalists are happy, because carbon-based energy production is restricted, and greenback-minded Wall Streeters are happy, too, because traders will make billions trading trillions’ worth of funny-money carbon contracts.
But there is a catch: People don’t have jobs now, and they won’t get them in the future if Obama spends money that doesn’t stimulate--and then seeks to choke what remains of the productive economy through environmental regulation.
And that, surely, is that a misreading of what the American people will vote for in 2010 and 2012.
This is Obama’s Katrina.
The unemployed will continue to suffer as the Obama disasters increase.
Americans will continue to suffer as the Obama disasters increase.
And the Obama disasters will continue to increase. Increase they will.
