He does not let it roll off his back, never did, and he holds a grudge. They will not be invited to the next inaugural ball for heaven's sake.

We sure have soft Journalists. In other countries they worry about whether they will live through the night.

Press being too soft on Obama? Duh!

By Gary Stein

July 6, 2009

Yes, the press is getting much tougher on Barack Obama lately. In fact, it's been at least a week or two since they gave him a standing ovation at the start of a press conference.

Very skeptical bunch, that fawning national media corps.

The Obama love-in started during the campaign, of course, when Hillary Clinton took a media bashing daily while the press pretty much did the Wave every time Obama was around.

Since Obama has been president, there have been a variety of tough questions:

"Mr. President, how did you decide which dog to get?"

"Mr. President, how did the First Lady enjoy Paris?"

"Mr. President, how did you enjoy your date in New York City?"

Like I said, those are the tough questions. Wouldn't it be fun, just for a day, to see the media go after Obama the way they have relentlessly gone after Sarah Palin?

I'm not saying the press has to constantly bash Obama, and he seems like a genuinely decent man. But can't the media at least be more curious, more skeptical, more questioning? I mean, there have been some major decisions made by his administration in the past few months, and you won't find much critical analysis of what's been done. The man is getting the free-est of passes, at a time when the nation has incredible critical problems.

It's not just me who feels this way. A recent Pew Research Center poll concluded Obama "has enjoyed substantially more positive media coverage than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush during their first months in the White House."

No wonder Obama seems to get snippy whenever a media outlet seems to be critical. It happens so rarely, he doesn't know how to let it roll off his back.

Supposedly, it is happening a bit more often lately. As Obama's poll numbers drop a bit, the press is getting a bit tougher on him. If that's true, it's way past time.

Seems like the big issues of the weekend came out of the biden interview where he finally admitted that the administation fucked up on their assessment of the economy, and that means we cannot afford the stimulus bill bambi passed, which by the way has created no jobs and failed to stem the tide of job loss. Another SNAFU (i.e. situation normal all fucked up) courtesy of that wonderful bambi administration. Stenny baby weighed in on the last point. On the Russian front, it looks like some pro forma treaty reducing old stock piles may be signed by the quid pro quo of curtaining missle defense systems may be more controversial. I have never been a Bill Cohen fan, and the only thing I really liked in Maine was Cap Weinburger and he is dead so there is not much to like about Maine and that includes Cohen. I forgot my point. But the one thing Cohen did say is Russias economy is tanking like a 7% contraction and how that plays out with the fool when he is over there remains to be seen. On the Israeli front, Biden appeared to give them the green light to take out the nukes, preferably while Bambi is over there giving away the store to the Supreme Leader. Finally, a clerical faction in Iran is calling the election illegitimate.

He has that Power if he was eligible for the Presidency, but since the Supreme Court of the United states does not want to check that out, I guess we will never know. If we do ever check that out, and he has signed these treaties, they are null and void.

Eligibility, just Eligibilty

Obama: Hey, let’s bypass the Senate on treaty ratificationsposted at 2:40 pm on July 5, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Send to a Friend | Share on Facebook | printer-friendly After listening to the Democrats screech for the last two years about the rule of law, this Jake Tapper report should be surprising …. but it’s not. Apparently, Barack Obama finds treaty ratification a little too complicated, and so he figures he can just commit the US to nuclear disarmament and bypass Congressional oversight:

With the clock running out on a new US-Russian arms treaty before the previous Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START, expires on December 5, a senior White House official said Sunday said that the difficulty of the task might mean temporarily bypassing the Senate’s constitutional role in ratifying treaties by enforcing certain aspects of a new deal on an executive levels and a “provisional basis” until the Senate ratifies the treaty.

“The most ideal situation would be to finish it in time that it could be submitted to the Senate so that it can be ratified,” said White House Coordinator for Weapons of Mass Destruction, Security and Arms Control Gary Samore. “If we’re not able to do that, we’ll have to look at arrangements to continue some of the inspection provisions, keep them enforced in a provisional basis, while the Senate considers the treaty.”
Samore said administration lawyers are exploring the “different options that are available. One option is that both sides could agree to continue the inspections by executive agreement; that would work on our side. On the Russian side, as I understand it, that would require Duma approval.”

The fact that the administration is preparing for such an extraordinary measure shows just how much pressure the two administrations are under to arrive at an agreement before the 18-year-old treaty expires.
Uh, pardon me, but how many seats in the Senate does Obama’s party hold? Isn’t it 60? If Obama is simply moving forward with a straightforward, supportable treaty with Russia to reduce nuclear stockpiles in an effective verification system, why couldn’t he get a quick ratification? The GOP gave George H. W. Bush enough support in 1991 to pass the original START treaty, so it’s not as if ratification would be impossibly complicated.

Well, that is, if the deal actually does put in place an effective verification system and doesn’t amount to a de facto unilateral disarmament. With exactly five months to win Senate approval, the effort by the Obama White House in floating this idea now makes it sound like Obama wants to give away the store in order to score some points with his 1980s no-nukes agenda. And as much as the Democrats howled over the supposed devotion of George Bush to a “unitary executive,” Obama seems to have no trouble bypassing the check on executive power for treaty negotiation written explicitly into the Constitution, in Article II, Section 2:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;

Words. Just words.

I await the day, Franken arrives at the senate podium dressed in a bulky cardigan and prefaces his landmark speech in Stuart Smalley mode.
