People Obama Loathes: Nancy Pelosi And Gay Men

As we wrote earlier, we do suspect that Obama released torture memoranda in order to reopen the torture issue. It was a “shrewd way to torture Nancy” and thereby knock out a potential rival power.

Last year, as Nancy Pelosi worked behind the scenes to gift Obama the Democratic nomination Nancy thought she and Harry Reid would really run things. But the Chicago thugs knew they were using Nancy as they had used others before. Eventually Nancy would have to be neutralized. Harry? Harry has enough problems just getting reelected.

The C.I.A. is just beginning to help Obama get Nancy out of his way. Today CIA Director Leon Panetta (a Democrat) responded to Nancy Pelosi by declaring agency records show CIA officers briefed lawmakers truthfully in 2002 on methods of interrogating terrorism suspects, but it is up to Congress to reach its own conclusions about what happened. Panetta is using Washingtonese to call Pelosi a liar.

Now Nancy is in a whole lot of hot water and Obama is free on a Friday to announce he will be the Third Bush Term again and again. This time Obama will be the Third Bush Term on the issue of Military Commissions:

Obama officials have been dispatched to insist to journalists (anonymously, of course) that Obama’s embrace of “new and improved” military commissions is neither inconsistent with the criticisms that were voiced about Bush’s military commission system nor with Obama’s prior statements on this issue. It is plainly not the case that these “modifications” address the core criticisms directed to what Bush did, nor is it the case that Obama’s campaign position on this issue can be reconciled with what he is now doing.

Suckers!

We told you so.

Obama simply cannot be trusted. Obama cannot be trusted on any issue. Obama cannot be trusted by his friends. Obama cannot be trusted by his enemies. Obama cannot be trusted.

* * * * *

But the biggest suckers are Gay Men (okay, Lesbians too, we don’t want to be too provocative) who voted for Barack Obama.

Now, these suckers who voted for Obama and believed Obama and donated money to Obama are whining and carrying on in a most undignified manner. Disgusting.

We wrote repeatedly about how Obama gay-bashed during the primary elections. In Barack’s World we wrote:

During the primary Barack Obama organized a gay-bashing tour exploiting African-American homophobia to his benefit. On election day that homophobia continued.

Proposition 2 in California passed on Tuesday. Proposition 2 benefited farm animals. Proposition 2 protects pregnant pigs, calves and hens as well as any animal in an enclosed area. California farm animals have their rights enhanced in Barack World. California Gay-Americans are sent to the Obama slaughter house.

Proposition 8, with big help from Obama supporters passed in California. Many of those Obama supporters that supported Proposition 8 were African-Americans who voted for Proposition 8 by 70%. Obama said nary a word against proposition 8. Obama’s voice was employed by supporters of Proposition 8 in robocalls to win support for Proposition 8. The Obama South Carolina gay-bashing tour echoed in California.

Many African-American Obama supporters who wept and gloried in the end of racism in America turned on Gay-Americans. [Some wonderful African-Americans fought against Proposition 8 with the same strength that some African-Americans supported Hillary.] Obama said nary a word against the bigotry.

Gay-Americans: Welcome to Reality.

Welcome to reality. Gay fools (and heterosexual fools) believed Obama’s words, and ignored Obama’s actions. Fools who voted for Obama believed words speak louder than actions. We believe actions speak louder than words.

Deluded fool and Big Pink hater Andrew Sullivan lavished love on Barack Obama. Fool Sullivan thought Obama represented a “new politics” to which we replied there is no “new” just always and eternally “politics”.

Fool Sullivan thought it was “his face” that made Obama so perfect. We kid you not. Forget Audrey Hepburn, for Sullivan it was Obama’s face that would change the world.

Fool Sullivan also wrote in that infamous love article: If you are an American who yearns to finally get beyond the symbolic battles of the Boomer generation and face today’s actual problems, Obama may be your man. Now Sullivan whines that Obama ignores him and ignores those pesky Boomer problems and has sold Sullivan out.

It is quite something to have a government stamp in your passport, as I do, that will tell any immigration or police officer with a connection to a government database that I have HIV, that I am therefore a threat and can be arrested and detained and deported at the border if necessary. [snip] And yet this is the current policy of the Obama administration on global HIV and AIDS.[snip]

But I have a sickeningly familiar feeling in my stomach, and the feeling deepens with every interaction with the Obama team on these issues. They want them to go away. They want us to go away.

Here we are, in the summer of 2009, with gay servicemembers still being fired for the fact of their orientation. Here we are, with marriage rights spreading through the country and world and a president who cannot bring himself even to acknowledge these breakthroughs in civil rights, and having no plan in any distant future to do anything about it at a federal level. Here I am, facing a looming deadline to be forced to leave my American husband for good, and relocate abroad because the HIV travel and immigration ban remains in force and I have slowly run out of options (unlike most non-Americans with HIV who have no options at all).

And what is Obama doing about any of these things? What is he even intending at some point to do about these things? So far as I can read the administration, the answer is: nada. We’re firing Arab linguists? So sorry. We won’t recognize in any way a tiny minority of legally married couples in several states because they’re, ugh, gay? We had no idea. There’s a ban on HIV-positive tourists and immigrants? Really? Thanks for letting us know. Would you like to join Joe Solmonese and John Berry for cocktails? The inside of the White House is fabulous these days.

Yesterday, Robert Gibbs gave non-answer after non-answer on civil unions and Obama’s clear campaign pledge to grant equal federal rights for gay couples; non-answer after non-answer on the military’s remaining ban on honest servicemembers. What was once a categorical pledge is now – well let’s call it the toilet paper that it is. I spent yesterday trying to get a better idea of what’s intended on all fronts, and the overwhelming sense – apart from a terror of saying anything about gay people on the record – is that we are in the same spot as in every Democratic administration: the well-paid leaders of the established groups get jobs and invites, and that’s about it. Worse: we will get a purely symbolic, practically useless hate crimes bill that they will then wave in our faces to prove they need do nothing more. [snip]

On gay servicemembers, the president is writing personal notes to those he has fired and intends to continue firing. Will he write some personal notes to the people with HIV he deports? Will he write personal notes to the gay spouses suddenly without a home or their late spouse’s savings or forced by his administration to relocate abroad because he has no intention of actually fulfilling his promises?

You got what you yourself wanted Andrew Sullivan – you got Obama who thinks you and your problems are old “Boomer problems”. Obama is not going to fight for you at all. Obama loathes you. Obama does not need or want your support. Keep attacking the Clintons with ahistorical hogwash from your bathtub and stop whining about Obama. You got what you wanted – now go away, with your husband if possible.

Another gay sucker and embarrassment to the gay community is Dan Savage. He too ignored Obama’s homophobia and gay-bashing tour and preferred to dream with Obama’s words, words, words. Savage did not have the wit to know that words lie. Actions are what matter.

Dan Savage simped and wimped about Obama too:

At roughly the same time Andrew was posting this blistering critique to his blog—please go read the whole thing—I was staring blankly into a camera at KING 5 waiting to go on MSNBC. I was asked to come on Andrea Mitchell’s show to talk about the controversy surrounding Obama’s invitation to give the commencement address at Notre Dame University this weekend. [snip] I wasn’t there to discuss the Obama’s administration’s abysmal record, thus far, on gay issues. But Andrea Mitchell asked and I did my best to tell:

If I had known that Mitchell was going to ask me about this I would’ve been better prepared. But if I had known the question was coming I’m afraid I would’ve had to contradict my good friend Andrew. Fact is, Obama has “acknowledge [the] breakthroughs in civil rights” that we’ve seen in Iowa and other states. And here it is:

See? Obama has acknowledged the breakthroughs in civil rights for gay Americans! He told a joke about it at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend. (You were there, Andrew, didn’t you catch it?)

Barack Obama condescended to use marriage equality as a punch line; he made, essentially, a Chuck & Larry joke about two straight dudes—Obama and Axelrod—running off to Iowa to “make it official” with the queers and their “partners.” And that’s hilarious, you see, because Obama and Axelrod aren’t actually homos! So they don’t need to go to Iowa to make it official! They can get married—to women—in all fifty states! HA!

The more I think about the joke Obama told at the WHCD the more ticked off I get.

The more we think about Dan Savage, Andrew Sullivan, and Nancy Pelosi, the more ticked off we get. They inflicted Obama on the United States. We want them to go away. They can take their husbands with them.

  1. Boo..Fuc*ing..Hoo..Andrew….Obama read Favreau’s words off the teleprompter while campaigning but only superficial research would have revealed how he really felt. Never been in a gay pride parade, refused to have picture taken with SF mayor, against gay marriage, Donny McClurkin, Kirbyjon Caldwell, Mary-Mary on the SC homo-phobe tour….Doug Kmiec (Mr Prop 8 ) in charge of the National “values” campaign, and now that he is President, four of his five religious advisors are homophobes.

  2. Ditto!
    Also, I somehow MISSED this gem from a much earlier post, admin,
    LMAO!
    “Proposition 2 protects pregnant pigs, calves and hens as well as any animal in an enclosed area. California farm animals have their rights enhanced in Barack World. California Gay-Americans are sent to the Obama slaughter house.”

    When ya think of all the dimwits in power sometimes it really does feel like god(dess) is playing a big joke on us. I mean, how come we at 44 can see the writing on the wall? Maybe, admin, if you became a more visible presence . . . .

  3. Sullivan and Savage had it coming. How could they have been so blind? All of these imbeciles from NARAL to NOW deserve what they are getting but unfortunately it’s at the expense of the rest of us. I hadn’t heard about him making a job about him and Axe. What a jackass.

  4. OT..but looks as if “torture” is reaching a critical mass and uncontrolled chain reaction is about to occur:
    ww.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-13/cheneys-role-deepens/

    “In his new book, Hide and Seek: The Search for Truth in Iraq, and in an interview with The Daily Beast, Duelfer says he heard from “some in Washington at very senior levels (not in the CIA),” who thought Khudayr’s interrogation had been “too gentle” and suggested another route, one that they believed has proven effective elsewhere. “They asked if enhanced measures, such as waterboarding, should be used,” Duelfer writes. “The executive authorities addressing those measures made clear that such techniques could legally be applied only to terrorism cases, and our debriefings were not as yet terrorism-related. The debriefings were just debriefings, even for this creature.”

    Duelfer will not disclose who in Washington had proposed the use of waterboarding, saying only: “The language I can use is what has been cleared.” In fact, two senior U.S. intelligence officials at the time tell The Daily Beast that the suggestion to waterboard came from the Office of Vice President Cheney. Cheney, of course, has vehemently defended waterboarding and other harsh techniques, insisting they elicited valuable intelligence and saved lives. He has also asked that several memoranda be declassified to prove his case. (The Daily Beast placed a call to Cheney’s office and will post a response if we get one.)

    Without admitting where the suggestion came from, Duelfer revealed that he considered it reprehensible and understood the rationale as political—and ultimately counterproductive to the overall mission of the Iraq Survey Group, which was assigned the mission of finding Saddam Hussein’s WMD after the invasion.

  5. SHV, the smiley face with sunglasses is generated when you post a number “8” followed immediately with an end parenthesis “)”. We did an edit and put a space between the 8 and the ).

    Thanks for the rundown on Hillary actions (along with her words) attending gay pride marches when it was not “cool” or politically dangerous. Obama still has not attended a gay pride parade ever and Andrew Sullivan and Dan Savage don’t have the wits to ask themselves “why?” Instead Sullivan attacks Bill Clinton for what was attempted and failed in the early 90s – at a time when it was politically dangerous to speak out, let alone try to do anything for gay rights.

    Thanks for reminding us of the Gavin Newsom photo refusal too.

    Also thanks for the reminder of the other Obama actions, not words, appointing his religious homophobes and Dough Kmiec. Let’s not forget Rick Warren at the inaugural.

  6. Torture con’t:

    If Cheney ordered torture inorder to get information that might strengthen the political position of the Bush WH….then there will be a Special Prosecutor appointed.

  7. Let’s not forget Rick Warren at the inaugural.
    *********
    I didn’t add Rick Warren because that was a “one time” event that showed how brilliant Obama is at playing eleven dimensional political chess.

  8. Leon panetta is between a rock and hard place situation…..

    As for Obama and sullivan…maybe Obama fears that his “chicago partner limo sex” would be finally confirmed……..take that one Savage and sullivan!!!!

  9. Oh those poor handsome young gay dudes that worshipped BO….you been had figuratively by your idol!!!!!

    And I for one do not support your rights any more because you landed this moron (and I believe a terrorist becuase he intentionally opened this torture issue up and will cause further harm to our troops and intelligence abroad) in the WH for us!!!!!! You deserve every condemnation that comes your way for stabbing us in the back.

    Oh yes, they can take their hubbies with them!!!!!

  10. Last night O’Reilly had Dick Morris on for a segment about Hillary. Morris has never made a prediction about Hillary that has ever come true, but here he was with his latest “big” prediction about Hillary’s future. He first stated that Obama had set out to neutralize her influence by appointing all of these special envoys, like Richard Holbrooke. He predicts that Obama will get into trouble politically and that his numbers will begin to plunge. As this happens, Hillary will distance herself from him, and that by 2012 Obama will be so radioactive that Hillary will challenge him in the primary. It’s
    interesting to think about, but I don’t think that she would ever challenge an incumbent.
    ————————————————-
    Re. Morris: rather than speculating on his reasons, let us simply hope that the law of averages will catch up with him in this instance and he will be right that Obama will implode and Hillary will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes. My sense of it from a distance is Holbrooke is there because Hillary wants him there, and his personal (as opposed to professional) loyalties are to her as rather than to Bambi. I think the collapse of Bambi is the most likely scenario, and the comments today by Brookes today, Will yesterday are a harbinger of things to come. Meanwhile, using the what would I do if I were in their shoes test, if a fifth column is not gestating in Congress in the aftermath of the Pelosi take-down then I for one would be surprised. We are living a media fiction right now, a land of sounds and images as opposed to reality. By my lights the Bambi fixation will end like the downfall in a Wagnerian Opera.

  11. if a fifth column is not gestating in Congress in the aftermath of the Pelosi take-down then I for one would be surprised.
    ************
    Torture-gate is getting ready to blow up in Bambi’s face. People are starting to talk and Bambi’s “Move on folks, nothing to see here” isn’t working. The Republicans going after Pelosi has taken the lid off…anything goes now. That is why I don’t think Obama was doing behind the scenes back-stabbing with torture….If this takes off, the nicely scripted Bambi political agenda is shot in the ass.

    Sheldon Whitehouse now talking about criminal prosecutions:
    “…and that raises the prospect of there being a criminal prosecution that could justifiably emerge…
    “.. torture is criminal, if it’s not justified by the OLC opinion, if there aren’t the defenses because you have gone outside of it…”
    “…not only does it disturb me, it takes the waterboarding outside of whatever protection the Office of Legal counsel provide… if the motivation for doing this was to get political information connecting Osama Bin Laden to Saddam Hussein that wasn’t related to a direct attack on the US, then it falls directly under the cases that show that waterboarding is a crime in America and is stripped of all protection from the OLC memoranda…”

    “…this thing is just getting deep and deeper…”

  12. Great article, but why has Obama not turned on Hillary/Bill yet? As I posted the other day, I saw a tabloid that has been credible in the past indcate that Obama will seek political “revenge ” against Bill. Are we 100% confident that Hillary and Bill are more prepared now than when they were ambushed in the election???

  13. You have to read Cinie’s post today about Nancy and Obama. It’s an instant classic, but not for the faint of heart, so you proceed at your own peril!

    http://cinie.wordpress.com/2009/05/15/i-just-dont-care-today/#comments

    A couple of highlights:

    “So, Nasty Pancakes is a bald-faced liar. What else is new? Why do her lies make her an undouched twat, while the nation’s Commander-in-Chief ’s lies don’t seem to make him a smegmated dickhole?”

    “I watched CNN’s Candy (a misnomer if ever there was one) Crowley actually attempt to modify reality into a metaphorical game of verbal Twister in order to try to turn Oyoumustbekiddingme’s flip-flop on torture photos into a pair of designer pumps that would make the Sex In The City chicks cream. Her back breaking, Olympic quality, spoken gymnastic maneuvers should have made Nadia Comaneci return her Gold Medals by overnight mail. “Well, Nameless Corporate Shill Who Introduced Me, sure, if you listen to what Obiteme said on the campaign trail, or even listen to the clip you just played of what he’s said a gazillion times before on the subject, of course, you could possibly make the case that yes, he probably might have sort of flipped, but not quite flopped. However, if you close your eyes and go ‘lalalalalalalal’ with your fingers in your ears, after you click your heels 3 or 4 times, you’ll see that the flip was really a cartwheel, and what he actually meant was what we’ve been thinking he was gonna say all along…”

    “Far as I’m concerned Nasty Pancakes deserves to have her Franensteinian Berry Arugula Waffles creation turn on, and eat her, too, as he cuts his destructive swath through the too-stupid-to-be-frightened village. While she was thanking God for blessing her devil lab with this diabolical incarnation of a selfish ATM, she should have realized that Botox melts at hellishly high temperatures, and invested in a Hazmat facemask and asbestos drawers to cover her ass.”

  14. The New York Times is doing its utmost to protect Pelosi but the following paragraph means more than all the defenses being constructed:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/16/us/politics/16cong.html?hp

    In Ms. Pelosi’s home state, California, residents say they are having a hard time accepting her account. “I’m very skeptical of what she’s saying, and when she goes to get re-elected, this could really damage her credibility,” said Delphine Langille of San Ramon, one of several people interviewed Friday outside of City Hall in San Francisco.

  15. The New York Times is doing its utmost to protect Pelosi but the following paragraph means more than all the defenses being constructed:
    ***********
    The NYT is starting to sound like Wing-nut media trying to defend “W” at his worst. They are playing both sides of the street also, these two paragraphs are pretty damaging: A Democrat and and Republican call her a liar. That bi-partisan cooperation.

    Mr. Panetta, a former Democratic congressman from California and a longtime associate of Ms. Pelosi, issued a statement that said the agency’s “contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that C.I.A. officers briefed truthfully,” a rebuttal of Ms. Pelosi’s claim on Thursday that intelligence officials had lied to her

    But Mr. Graham was not present for the briefing with Ms. Pelosi. The only other lawmaker present, Porter J. Goss, then a Republican congressman from Florida who was the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and later became the C.I.A. director, has contradicted her account. He said he and Ms. Pelosi were told that the agency intended to use the harsh methods.

  16. Given the fact that the New York Times is part of the Bambi Governing Coalition, why would they be fighting so hard to defend Pelosi. Is it their pathological hatred of Bush or is there more to it? If Pelosi goes down hard, how does that affect Bambi and the Big Media Governing Coalition? What are the afraid of?

  17. To answer my own question, maybe it gets back to the line of argument advanced by NewsMax showing that he mishandled a very serious issue and thereby set in motion a sequence of events that cost the speaker her job and the party its reputation. Hard for him to rise above this one. Oh he can say as he did with Iraq I wasn’t in office at that time, but he has certainly become an accessory after the fact. Too clever by the halves.

  18. To answer my own question, maybe it gets back to the line of argument advanced by NewsMax showing that he mishandled a very serious issue and thereby set in motion a sequence of events that cost the speaker her job and the party its reputation.

    That would be my guess also…Stupid and not ready on day one. :>)

  19. SHV: here is one I think you will like. There is a grass roots website to draft Joe Sestak. And Arlen’s love affair with the dems? As Cole Porter put it -too darned hot not to cool down. Which sets up an interesting dynamic whereby Pennsylvanian Democrats want a primary to decide who their candidate will be and Bambi (the great unifyer) has made his deal with Spector and cannot give it to them. All this amidst the constant big media references to his stratospheric popularity. Keep aloft by . . . hot air and nothing else.
    ————————————————–
    ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Some Democrats who opened their arms to party switcher Sen. Arlen Specter have softened the embrace.

    Progressive grassroots activists this week posted a fundraising Web link to draft Rep. Joe Sestak to challenge Specter in next year’s Pennsylvania Democratic primary.

    And labor leaders in the state repeatedly have warned that a decision on whether they endorse Specter depends on whether he supports a bill making it easier for unions to organize.

    At a recent Jefferson Jackson Democratic dinner in Pittsburgh sponsored by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee, Chairman Jim Burn said the mood about Specter’s switch was “cold to lukewarm at best.”

    “We need to see if he’s going to be a Democrat,” Burn said.

    Specter’s decision to switch was widely praised by Democrats because it reenforced the Republican Party’s struggles and moved Democrats a step closer to getting a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. But now many of the party faithful in Pennsylvania are wondering, “Is he Democrat enough?”

    Specter, 79, is Pennsylvania’s longest serving senator. Proudly independent, he proclaimed when he made the party switch late last month that he wasn’t going to be an automatic vote for Democrats. He said a reason he was switching was because he was likely to lose the Republican primary to former GOP Rep. Pat Toomey.

    He was quickly endorsed by President Barack Obama, Gov. Ed Rendell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. That earned him credibility but has caused some resentment that the party establishment would pick a nominee.

    After making the switch, Specter quickly angered Senate Democrats by voting against a Democrat-backed budget bill. He also indicated he wasn’t changing his positions on the Employee Free Choice Act — a bill making it easier for workers to organize — and expressed opposition to a government option on health care overhaul. Soon after, Senate Democrats voted to take away his seniority.

    Since then, Specter’s left the door open to compromise. He’s said he’s open to a government health insurance plan that would compete with private insurers to cover middle-class Americans. And on Thursday, he said he is meeting with labor leaders and fellow senators on the labor organizing bill, and the prospects are good that a compromise can be reached.

    “I’m responding on the issues,” Specter said in an interview.

    He said he’s been working with State Democratic Chairman T.J. Rooney to reach out to party leaders across the state and will continue to do so. He said Democrats are grateful for his critical vote in favor of $787 economic stimulus package, and he has a long history of working with labor.

    “So far, the receptions have been uniformly excellent,” Specter said.

    Specter had a 81 percent approval rating among Pennsylvania Democrats in a Quinnipiac University poll conducted after he made the switch.

    But Dan Urevick-Ackelsberg, a University of Pennsylvania law student who runs the Young Philly Politics political blog, said with Specter’s initial positions after the switch, he “stuck his stick in many of the Democrats’ eyes.”

    The senator was endearing when he was a Republican challenging his party, but not so much when the tables were turned, Urevick-Ackelsberg said. He said the Democratic primary would be a good opportunity for Specter to prove his worth as a Democrat, and he’s advocated for a run by Sestakpecifically the stimulus vote, he said.

    Brady, a union carpenter, said he’s hopeful Specter will come to labor’s side on the union organizing bill.

    “It would be helpful for him and for all of us,” Brady said.

    In Allegheny County, Burn said people are eager to hear what he has to say. Specter will be in Pittsburgh on June 5 for the Democrats’ state committee meeting.

    “It’s ironic that Senator Specter left the Republican Party in part to avoid a tough primary battle, with the possibility that he might find himself in one on this side of the aisle as well,” Burn said.

  22. Torture-gate get closer to out of control chain reaction:

    “CNN) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is engaging in a “despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort” to withhold what she knew about the CIA’s harsh interrogation techniques, former Speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday.
    Newt Gingrich says Nancy Pelosi is a ‘trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowest of purposes.’
    Gingrich said Pelosi “lied to the House” when she earlier claimed that the CIA had never briefed her about the Bush administration’s use of interrogation methods like waterboarding, which is considered torture by the current administration.

    “I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don’t think the speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters,” the Republican leader said in an interview with ABC Radio.
    **************
    Newt Gingrich is hypocritical scum..but he got this one right.

  23. Wbboei, miscalculation is probably the answer to why what is happening now is happening. Obama probably wanted to remove Pelosi as a power source but not necessarily start the conflagration that this is developing into with the consequent flames licking the White House and Dimocrats in panic at the first sign of trouble. Most Dimocrats and the NYTimes want Obama and Pelosi and Reid to work together and create their version of the 50 year Reich of reelection, at minimum, so the “unfair” mess this is especially disturbs them.

    The miscalculation, as SHV said, makes the NYTimes and Dimocrats appear like the mirror image of Bush supporters when it is clear that even those that believe Obama to be an innocent in the matter and believe Pelosi is telling the truth have to be surprised that the story has gathered such force. Since the Specter defection these Dims have been gloating that nothing can stop them now and since they believe that Republicans are dead or near death AND because they blame the entire story on Republican machinations (the blame Cheney as genius agitator line) Dims are thusly in shock that the Republicans could be pulling off what they consider a scam so successfully.

    Even if we were to believe that Obama is completely innocent in this (which we do not so believe) the question which then arises is why didn’t the White House realize that there were published news reports going back years that Nancy and other Dims were told about the “interrogation techniques” long ago? Notice how neither Gibbs nor Obama have said anything about the matter (Gibbs today would not answer a question about the issue).

    If Nancy Pelosi survives this she will be wounded and we will be watching to see how she responds to Obama’s lack of public support.

  24. Waterboarding isn’t torture. Torture is driving down the street and seeing car after car (all imported) with Bammmmbeeeeeee bumper stickers. It makes me realize how many idiots there are in the country.

    Morbid curiosity as opposed to common sense compels me to pull along side such vehicles traffic permitting. As I do so, I stare into the cab to see if there is any sign of intelligent life at the wheel. Typically not.

    By my scientific survey two thirds are young airheads (60-40 female to male) and one third Mr. Magoo types (some of my neighbors). A generation of vipers as one author aptly put it.

    I generally lay a patch and let them see my Hillary bumper sticker and Hillary sign resting in the back of the cab. My car has a big engine, a
    redesiged exhaust system, a chip and a K air filter so this is easy.

    I know it is childish but I want them to know one thing: old Hillary soldiers never die and they sure as hell don’t fade away. Whether these bots will eventually achieve wisdom is an imponderable.

  25. Another brilliant miscalculation:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/14/AR2009051404241.html\

    Is this what the first trade war of the global economic crisis looks like?

    Ordered by Congress to “buy American” when spending money from the $787 billion stimulus package, the town of Peru, Ind., stunned its Canadian supplier by rejecting sewage pumps made outside of Toronto. After a Navy official spotted Canadian pipe fittings in a construction project at Camp Pendleton, Calif., they were hauled out of the ground and replaced with American versions. In recent weeks, other Canadian manufacturers doing business with U.S. state and local governments say they have been besieged with requests to sign affidavits pledging that they will only supply materials made in the USA.

    Outrage spread in Canada, with the Toronto Star last week bemoaning “a plague of protectionist measures in the U.S.” and Canadian companies openly fretting about having to shift jobs to the United States to meet made-in-the-USA requirements. This week, the Canadians fired back. A number of Ontario towns, with a collective population of nearly 500,000, retaliated with measures effectively barring U.S. companies from their municipal contracts — the first shot in a larger campaign that could shut U.S. companies out of billions of dollars worth of Canadian projects.
    ad_icon

    This is not your father’s trade war, a tit-for-tat over champagne or cheese. With countries worldwide desperately trying to keep and create jobs in the midst of a global recession, the spat between the United States and its normally friendly northern neighbor underscores what is emerging as the biggest threat to open commerce during the economic crisis.

    [snip]

    Take, for instance, Duferco Farrell Corp., a Swiss-Russian partnership that took over a previously bankrupt U.S. steel plant near Pittsburgh in the 1990s and employed 600 people there.

    The new buy American provisions, the company said, are being so broadly interpreted that Duferco Farrell is on the verge of shutting down. Part of an increasingly global supply chain that seeks efficiencies by spreading production among multiple nations, it manufactures coils at its Pennsylvania plant using imported steel slabs that are generally not sold commercially in the United States. The partially foreign production process means the company’s coils do not fit the current definition of made in the USA — a designation that the stimulus law requires for thousands of public works projects across the nation.

    In recent weeks, its largest client — a steel pipemaker located one mile down the road — notified Duferco Farrell that it would be canceling orders. Instead, the client is buying from companies with 100 percent U.S. production to meet the new stimulus regulations. Duferco has had to furlough 80 percent of its workforce.

  26. Thanks Admin. I did not realize Reid and Pelosi had the protection of the ring from big media, but your explanation makes sense.

  30. White House ducks Pelosi-CIA battle

    By Sam Youngman
    05/15/09

    The White House refrained from picking sides Friday in a nasty accusations battle emerging between President Obama’s CIA director and the Democratic Speaker of the House.

    White House press secretary Robert Gibbs declined to comment during his daily briefing after he was asked about a memo CIA Director Leon Panetta, who was handpicked by Obama, circulated to CIA employees, refuting Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) charge from Thursday that the agency lied to her in 2002.

    Republicans howled Thursday after Pelosi said the CIA misled her about whether the agency was employing enhanced interrogation techniques like waterboarding during that 2002 briefing. Panetta fired back Friday, saying in a memo that agency records show Pelosi’s version is inaccurate.

    Still, the White House tried to stay neutral, with Gibbs saying only that he appreciates “the invitation to get involved, but I’m not going to RSVP.”

    Gibbs said the president is focused on other things, and as he has said many times: “The best thing that we can do is look forward.”

  31. Gibbs said the president is focused on other things, and as he has said many times: “The best thing that we can do is look forward.”
    **************
    “Looking forward” is sounding a bit weak now. The ACLU is pissng mad and the MSM is getting wiff of blood in the water. When Obama said no prosecution after memo release and then defied the Second Circuit’s order to release the “pictures” he became an accessory. When Obama backed the Bush policy regarding prisoners at Bagram, then he became an enabler of war crimes.

  32. SHV, FYI Amrit Singh’s dad is coming back as PM for a second term — his party won the majority parliament seats.

    Good..I can hear the phone conversation now…”Hi, Dad what’ s going on??? Well. Amrit, I am meeting with Pres. Obama…can you give me any insight? Amrit: He is a liar, his word is worthless and he can’t be trusted…

  34. (Emphasis added).
    ——————————————-
    This begs the critical question WHY has this story gathered such force? and WHY did his minions fail to forsee this reaction? I think the answer to both questions is rather important in terms of defeating the Alinsky juggernaught which is now running the country into the ground.

    In my opinion, this reaction is the natural and probable consequence of who Mr. Obama is, and everything his anti-American administration has been doing since it took over. The effect is cumulative.

    Let me begin with Mr. Obama. Who is he–really. A man who will not produce his birth certificate, who will not produce his tanscripts, who has an incestuous relationship with big media, who tells us he has superior judgement and experience does not count, who is the beneficiary of a propaganda campaign worthy of Adolf Hitler, who brainwashes our youth, who raises more shady money than any candidate in history, who bows to Arab Kings and denies it was a bow, who trashes our country and tells us in effect that he is the Messiah to the deafening applause of big media. A man who has been installed as head of this country by people we do not know, for their own benefit.

    And what is his agenda? In the campaign it was hope and change. Thats it. Hope. Change. The one we have been waiting for. His inagueration was a self indulgent orgy. But when he took office, he proceeded to repudiate most everything he claimed he stood for and what has emeged is a corporate agenda adverse to the interests of the economic security and civil rights of the American people. And he is using the economic crisis as an excuse to loot the country for his cronies and force us into a socialistic model.

    Two million people have lost their jobs since he took office. More will follow. To which he says in effect, what me worry, I have got an important meeting with the Philadelphia Phillies to attend to–this can wait. It has become rather obvious that he is protecting elite interests at the expense of the middle class. He is more concerned with reelection than governing.

    On foreign policy he goes the world condemning the United States, as well as the prior Administration. It is one thing to open a dialogue with our enemies and quite another to embrace them. He subordinates our sovereignty to interntional institutions and thereby silences the voice of the American People much like he did in the primaries. He does not understand our values and sees our country through the eyes of Jerimiah Wright, while denying he ever heard anything racist during the 20 years he sat in the pews. And his solution to everything is yet another speech based on the words of a 28 year old adolescent whose claim to fame is groping a picture of Hillary with a beer bottle.

    This Administration is drunk on power. It feels the wind at its back. The people who are caught up in that wind are inclined to the magic thinking which we talked about the other day. They see themselves as economic beneficiaries of this particularlly big media nd the corporations behing them. They do not see the rising tide of anger in the wake of economic dislocation, because it does not affect them. They are living in the same fantasy he is. Those who are not caught up in it see that what we have today is a divided country, and many of us are concerned that this bozo may be leading us down one of those paths from which no one ever returns.

    Given these dynamics, it is hardly surprising that when a limosene liberal Speaker of the House allied with the President lies to the American People and casts blame on those who were charged with protecting the United States from a second wave of terrorist attacks it generates a backlash across the country which has been building, building and building against what many perceive as the most anti American administration in history, even worse than Bush, operating under a benign facade and that mawkish smile and bellowng speeches. An administration determined to changing this country for the worse.

  35. So is this a “hide you head in the sand and pretend nothing happened” moment for obama and gibbs?

    What the heck are we all thinking of to push this story? Methinks the media put it out there and doesn’t know what to do with it now. Either that or obama has started a whisper campaign against her, called in a few media buddies, and is getting ready to party…

  36. Speaking of Alinksy tactics, esp the one about “It’s not what you have, it’s what your opponent thinks you have” — the Western world sure got upset about what they THOUGHT Saddam had. I’ve seen a blogged story that looks credible, saying ‘al Qaeda’ is smoke and soundbytes.

    Greta interviewed Gingrich yesterday. He repeated this attack on Pelosi. He said she would be gone but declined to say when. I agree with that part, but hope he is wrong. She makes a perfect scarecrow for the 2010 election, which is why I think she will not survive.

    Greta did not accept the assertion that Pelosi lied. She wanted to see the actual documents. Gingrich agreed that those should be produced, as well as the documents which record the information which was obtained through the application of those methods. He went on to say that the House should commence an investigation, and put Pelosi (among others) under oath. And he suggested that only two defenses were possible. Either she lied or she was stupid.

    Greta then asked Gingrich what about Obama. He ducked the question he first time she asked it. He said Bambi should stay aloof. Whereupon she pointed out that Bambi initiated this conflagration by releasing the memos, and therefore he could not claim to be innocent. Gingrich responded that Bambi should hide from it–which Gibbs is not attempting to do.

    (Note: Gingrich is himself a representative of those wall street interests. We saw that in his opposition to mark to market accounting rules which prevented banks from inflating the value of bad assests to the detriment of taxpayers. For him to weigh in this fiercely on the issue could be construed in more than one way. It is unusual for a former speaker to criticize a current one. Pelosi has seized partisan advantage to escalate the attack on the Republicans and he is of course a Republican. However, in the absence of effective party leadership under McCain, it can also be seen as an attempt by Newt to fill an existing void and clear the path for a run at the Presidency).

  38. Obama’s obvious homophobia was one of several reasons I couldn’t support him in the primaries. I happen to be gay and I find the Democratic party’s insistence on following the absurd beltway conventional wisdom that no candidate for major office can win if they embrace gay rights unequivocally, to be self-defeating. I always had the feeling Obama was never comfortable discussing gay rights, while Hillary clearly was, and I found the whole Saddleback Church pandering to be shameful. To give an anti-gay bigot who puts being gay in the same category as being a pedophile, the most prominent speaking position at the inauguration, should have been a huge, smoking red flag that once elected, we were not going to feel the love.

  39. unlike most people on thsi site and other media, I think BO released the tortue memos for a definite purpose….I am calling it the way I SEE IT.

    He wants the world to know what happened but not take any part of the blame. He is communicating INDIRECTLY with the ISLAMIST terrorists and they will do waht they have been doing all the time – get madder and lethal perhaps with even more force and energy and putr our forces in even more danger….

    Then when soem time passes, BO will try to negotiate a deal and a pact to act asx a savior..starting with the KING OF SAUDI ARABIA to whom he has indirectly aligned his obeyance to…with that bow as a starting point…..

    IT IS UPTO THE CONGRESS TO THROW OUT PELOSI AND BO!!!!

    I am not a supporter of torture and I have admired McCain’s stance on this issue as the right authority on this subject…and I have also felt that in 2002 – right after 9/11 – our nation had a little different approach and mentality….so releasing those memos from 2002 was BO’s way to talk with the Islamic teorroists indirectly…….even Pelosi may have had different views on this topic in 2002. I know I did…..

    Whether I like what happened in 2002 is irrelevant to the whole issue of bringing up national security issues like these one at this point in time….

    The country leads a leader and with a couple of exceptions in the current congress there are none……PLEASE REMEMBER THAT QUESTION CHRIS MATTHEWS ASKED Hillary clinton torture and that quote from Bill Clinton……This is going that way……BO will be digging more into Bush I and the two CLinton terms for everything on national security…….and outing it out….

  40. My issue with Pelosi-gate is that Republicans are using her as a scapegoat. They’re changing the subject from “Go after the people who tortured (Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice/etc.)” to “Go after Pelosi.” Her attempts to paint herself as holier-than-thou are obnoxious and stupid. But she’s not the criminal here. Republicans are. But what Republicans are proving is that contrary to what Dimocrats have been gleefully claiming for many months, Republicans are not dead in the water. Rumors of their demise have been greatly exaggerated. They’ve only been playing dead. And they’re kicking Dimocrats’ collective asses right now, just like they did with the stimulus bill and the bailouts (which Bush started, but who cares about that!) Never underestimate the stupidity and incompetence of the Democratic party and sheer gall of the Republican.

    Yup. That is how I am seeing it too.

    If you want to understand this man, you have got to study Alinsky.

    It is not enough to pick apart his mistakes, or to assign them to innocent error. Everyone who has done that has been outmaneuvered.

    We have got to always be asking the larger questions like who is he, why is he doing that and what is the real agenda.

    First create the problem, then let the antagonists fight, then solve the problem. The cycle repeats itself.

    It is worse than hypocracy. It is the violation of a blood oath taken by that small cadre of people who are curst or blessed by being privy to the secrets that can shake or destroy the world. Secrets they must know and go to their graves with. That is the deeper logic operating her. It is why this is uberserious–and why now she must go.

    If we knew the full story on this one it could tell us something important. I know a democrat who was uniquely qualified for this position, someone Hillary might have chosen, someone who would have been brilliant. Yet Bambi chooses a Republican. This must be coming through the financial handlers. To say I am suspicious of this appointment would be the granddaddy of all understatements. I think it deserves close critical scrutiny.

    “Funny you should bring that up…reminds me of a story I once heard”
    “That’s not how I see it”.

    But the constant putting off built up. And by Katrina, the tipping point had been exceeded. And from that point on, they were vicious, and sought to bolster their cred by, get this, actually being critical of the sitting president.

    obama is already overusing these trite duck and dive devices, but that too is wearing thin.

    Just think. One day, it will be cool for a reporter to challenge obama, to point out something that isn’t peachy keen.

    ————————————————-
    The point I am making is not about the merits or demerits of water boarding. It is about the meaning of the handshake. When you are privy to inside information and party to a decision that is potentially controversial, which you may be called upon to defend at a later time, when the shit hits the fan, you do not fan the flames, run away from your actions and piss backwards on the other people who were party to that decision. That is not merely contra bonus mores, it is verbotten. That is the gravamen of the complaint against Pelosi.

  48. I was not clear on my earlier point. I did not intend to suggest that waterboarding is something that could be kept secret. I was saying that someone who is told about it in secret, raises no objection and then denies she was told and politicizes it is not someone who can be trusted with state secrets. They have violated the secret handshake which must be honored if the security interests of this nation are to be protected. As for waterboarding itself I have consistently maintained that we should have a full investigation into this, with all evidence and all parties under oath and subject to cross examination. My views on that subject have not changed. As with the economy, bambi is inclined to the half measures that aggravate rather than resolve the problem.

  49. There is an asymetry between our logic and that of the other side. We are inclined to deal in facts and proofs. They on the other hand deal in a fact free environment, larded with opinion and half truth. Their weapon of choice is unsubstantiated allegation repeated ad infinitum. They proceed thematically, and magic thinking fills in the blanks. Theirs is a plastic medium, and the only constant is Bambi. But the agenda is always there lurking just around the corner.

  50. Reminder: Today is Preakness Day with a lone filly running. Time 6:30 p.m. ET. Unfortunately the race is on NBC (the network with the most horse ass’).

    The Preakness is a hallowed institution and is a plot point in the great political thriller “Seven Days In May”. For fans of the film, for a political twist on the Preakness, here’s a clip:

    The “other side”….hmmm.

    Say 61% approval so far. Voters unwilling to give a shit or research anything.

    Probably a good chunk of the other 39% who don’t think obama is wonderful are Repubs, who blindly cheered Bush (okay, maybe not every one of them), and used a fact-free zone to support Bush.

    So now the “us” is starting to look pretty small. The shadow site at one point thought there were at most 300 blogging here. Of course, this web site is not the only one with sanity, and where facts matter. But still, you wish people would wake the fuck up.

    I too am entitled to have fun, have hobbies, have a really damn busy work week. But I don’t say, “Well, that entitles me to be an uncaring, uninformed idiot”.

    As for those “brilliant pundits”, who thought “Obama might be just what is needed”… I made that quote up, but that was what was repeated leading up to the election. Notice the use of the word “what”, rather than “who”.

    They thought obama The Symbol would make things right just because of his race, and his fabricated background of being some kind of unconfrontational “fun dad”; always time for chocolate chip cookies and pizza, never time for your medicine or your homework.

    But as a “who”, obama is vastly underqualified. The “who” who was and is the best qualified at this time in our nation’s history is that feisty Sec. of State.

    And I dare any MoFo blog site to come here and denigrate us for thinking that obama is a travesty, has to go, and the Dems better realize for the good of the country, and even the good of the Democratic party, that getting Clinton into the Oval Office is going to be the smartest move left on the board. Of course, they’ll have to sacrifice a piece, a weakened bishop that is overextended, poorly positioned, and vulnerable to attack.

  52. Many years ago, I had the privilege of knowing a man who was and probably still is the greatest trial lawyer of our generation. He was half Perry Mason and the other half Borsh Belt, but always deadly in a courtroom. His career reads like a Hollywood script–worked for the New York Homicide Department investigating the death of Malcolm X, full US Attorney at 29, convicted many mafia and corrupt city officials, US District Judge at 36, consultant to the Prosection Team who indicted Agnew, US District Judge to Berlin, on and on it goes.

    He has written and taught extensively about trial strategy in the courtroom. As Prosector he had the right to go first with his opening statement and he regarded that as manna from heaven. The ability to stand in front of a jury, wrap himself in the American Flag, point his finger at the hapless defendant and say Jacccue. He said the law recognizes this fact, and compensates for it by assigning the burden of proof to the government–indeed proof beyond reasonable doubt.

    But today, as a defense lawyer, he says he would gladly swap the burden of proof for the right to open. The power of going first and making the allegation that is burned into the jurys mind as they first hear it may not be game set match, but certainly equates to a major court advantage. What he advises the defense to do is to reject the whiny nonsense they teach you in law school, those plaintive pleas to keep an open mind and go right back at their throat. Depending on the rules of the court and the sensibilities of the Judge, a toned down version of that is a damned lie–and they know it.

    Years ago, I prepared a point by point rebuttal of a florid argument made by the other party. I assailed their facts, their logic etc. I gave it to the communications director who was accustomed to battle royals with the media. I asked him what he thought. He said no damned good. As intellectual arguments go it is okay. But this is not a debate over how many angels can dance or the head of a pin–it is about power, emotions and themes. He tore up what I had written and said tell the press that the opponents view is a goddam stunt.

    I recall a book called A Passage To India which we talked about here before a long time ago. In it there was a line about the emotional truth vs the empirical truth. If we confine ourselves to empirical facts and the opponent appeals to emotion, he is likely to win. Why? Because the human mind is more easily seduced by pictures than by dry facts. Why do you think there is not more outrage when Obama breaks his word and sends yet another constituenncy on a one way trip down the Nile River? Because the floodtide of laudatory images which assails our senses suppresses that response.

    The criminal law takes account of this. In order to convict a defendant the prosecutor must show that he committed the guilty act (actus reus) with the guilty state of mind (mens rea). But how do we really know what was going on in the defendants mind when he committed the crime. We are not mind readers. Sometimes there is a confession and if the cops are any good they traverse that issue. But more often than not we infer a state of mind from all the circumstantial evidence.

    Yes, this is a war of words. But it is also a war of words and of themes. That is why when I know what the game plan is I feel it is not only justifiable but necessary to proceed on the assumption what the mistakes he makes may well be tactical and in futherance of the agenda. This is a presumption, it is rebuttable by objective contrary evidence but in the absense of such evidence I am inclined to go with it so I do not lose sight of the big picture and where this train is headed.

  53. I was saying that someone who is told about it in secret, raises no objection and then denies she was told and politicizes it is not someone…..

  54. rgb: good analysis.

    I think skepticism is creeping into the minds of his most ardent media supporters, and certainly the far left.

    I have as much confidence in his approval ratings as I had in the poll projections in New Hampshire.

    I think the movement of audiece away from the bootlicking networks and toward FOX is a more reliable indicator of the public mind.

    When I am asked about this I say if you believe the media then he is doing well. But they are not objective and here is why. And what they dont want you to know about him is this.

    These things reach a tipping point–they always do. A number of people think six months.

    Confloyd: that was my question. I was hoping you could answer it. More specifically, what is his connection to China?

  59. Wbboei, to win in court or an argument such as we are engaged in it is necessary, as you wrote, to paint a tableau vivant – something that people can see vividly and understand completely. The logic and details must be there but the entire narrative must be starkly true and make sense – convincing sense, if it is to persuade.

    When we began this website the only web “support” for Hillary were whiny pleas for “fairness” and apologetic “defenses” whispered politely as Hillary was savaged. The ugly “1984” video which attacked Hillary as a “Big Brother” type monster was laughed off by Hillary supporters as somehow clever and fair. Unfortunately a lot of the Hillary campaign kept that apologetic posture for too long as well.

    After we published our tableau vivant of the corrupt, Rezko owned trash-talking Obama who pretended to fight fair but with Big Media support waged an ugly campaign against Hillary, things began to change. Not enough, but things began to change. The “let’s play nice” Hillary supporters were forced to admit the foolishness of appeasing the Obama thugs and even they began to toughen up. Other Hillary support websites later began to emerge with our type of attitude.

    Unfortunately the Hillary campaign chose to be timid and not risk Big Media attacks by going after Obama fully. They were in a tough place but Big Media and the Obama supporters and Obama paid thugs were going to attack no matter how “nice” the Hillary campaign was so we thought our posture was the winning one. We suspect that now they realize we were right.

    Absolutely agree…. Hillary campaign played it “too nice” in the name of being part of “DEMOCRATS”….that is why if she were to run again, I want s pit bull type attitude not that …”we must be nice to you”….she and her campaign did not use all her assets in the campaign and made too many mistakes early on.

  61. Well, the repubs have indeed tried to change the story. That much is true. Also true is the fact that Pelosi has been caught in the snare. Confloyd: this is a tactical maneuver. Apparently this guy is on somebodys list as a potential presidential candidate for the Republican Party in 2012. I must tell you I had never heard of him and his name does not cut much swath in the circles I travel in, but they are not what one might call all inclusive. He is a Mormon and did missionary work in China when he was young. Unless I am missing something that is not an impressive resume for this job. Especially when it is compared with other people who were in the running. Therefore, the explanation appears to be cynically political. Notice for example the gratuitous comment by Gibbs that he is the kind of moderate Republican they want. Like Crist, or McCain. Someone who yield easily. Nobody wants more neocons but these types leave me cold.

  65. no horse ever won the Preakness from the 13th position, until this filly. She darted ahead of everyone so as not to be forced out too wide in the first turn. Down the backstretch, she moved from second into first. Then never gave it up.

  66. ‘The “let’s play nice” Hillary supporters were forced to admit the foolishness of appeasing the Obama thugs and even they began to toughen up.’

    McCain did the same thing as HRC. He learned NOTHING from her experience.

    I swear. sometimes it feels like the entire country is in the throes of some unavoidablre karmic challenge -or life challenge – you know the kind. We’ve all been there – that one situation where all your instincts are screaming RUN and yet you’re drawn to the thing that will destroy you – It’s the kind of situation one usually encounters at a young age …..and so when you grow up you recognize the snake for what it is . ..

  67. I heard about that Axelgrease comment.

    He’ s got the same nasty sense of humor as Sykes. Classless.

  68. Rachel Alexander beat Mine That Bird today.

    Mine That Bird is a miracle horse so it was a terrific accomplishment. Here is some amazing overhead video of the Kentucky Derby which shows what a great horse Rachel Alexander beat. It’s a very impressive video to watch (until we get video of the Rachel Alexander victory) which can be enjoyed by all because it is almost as if all the other horses are standing still. Pardons to those not very interested in the race but it is rare that a filly wins and we should celebrate.

  69. Basil9 -Our love to Eight Belles.

    We’re celebrating Rachel Alexandra because of the Eight Belles sadness.

    We can’t begin to describe the ugly emails we received from Obama supporters the day Eight Belles died. These creeps celebrated because the filly had lost to Big Brown (a horse we liked and were present at his maiden race as well as when he came in dead last when he was supposed to win) and then had to be shot.

    All horses are winners when they race at this level and we should all be saddened when one has to be “put down”. Not those Hopium addled addicts – they celebrated the death of a great horse. Celebrated.

  70. Oh YEAH!!!!!!!

    I saw that overhead video of the Derby! What an astonishing run! I think Mine that Bird would have won again today if he hadn’t had to go to the outside. But i am THRILLED that Rachel won.

    Can’t wait to see overhead video of the Preakness.

    (RIP 8 Belles. I bet she’s kicking up her hooves in horse heaven today.)

  71. ‘Not those Hopium addled addicts – they celebrated the death of a great horse’

    Just like they celebrate injury to all who dare disagree with them. It’s sickening.

    But Rachel Alexandra is a SHERO! Maybe this will portend well for Hrc. Maybe 8 Belles had a hand in this . maybe . . . . .

    I don’t know RA’s history but I was so inspired by Bird’s story; a $9500 gelding.

  72. Admin: your whole line of argument is correct. And you have played it straight all the way. That is why history has proven you right where so many others were wrong. I do not lose sight of that.

    By the same token if one false fact slips into the narrative, the entire argument can come unravelled. Unless you are big media and they seem to get away with it on a routine basis. Also, they are permitted to censor information. To a large degree they control the game.

    I am not talking about facts which are as someone said pesky things. I am talking about inferences which are the conclusions we draw from a given fact, or set of facts which we believe to be true. Inferences are important because they give meaning to those facts. Inferences can be predictive of future behavior. They explain his ambiguous behavior. They enable us to get inside his head and understand his motives.

    But where can we hope to find tha body of knowlege which allows us draw the right conclusion from otherwise ambiguous facts. In the case of Mr. Obama, I think we have the Alinsky materials. And we have other background information and behaviorial patterns to consider. But we must also take cognizance of the mythmaking of big media. The constant parading of his image before our eyes.

    Mythmaking and factfinding are fundamentally different. One trumps the other. There is that line in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance which says when the facts collide with the myth, print the myth. And not surprisingly, a newsman says it. Myths trump facts. Myths must be repudiated or confronted with contrary myths.

    The cycle I see is facts whether true or false morph into themes whether true or false which morph into myths which become nearly unassaible. Once that happens people no longer ask questions they simply buy the brand.

  73. ‘We can’t begin to describe the ugly emails we received from Obama supporters the day Eight Belles died’

    Just like they wish imjury on all who disagree with them. Sickening.

    But HOORAY for Rachel! Our SHERO!

  74. To continue . . .

    The most important point of all, the thing that destroys myths is when they can no longer explain what is occurring in reality. The thing that will destroy the myth of Mr. Obama is his inability to cope with our economic situation which causes real pain to the country. He promised us a brave new world, he had four years to fix it and things are worse not better and he is still blaming Bush.

  75. The “let’s play nice” Hillary supporters were forced to admit the foolishness of appeasing the Obama thugs and even they began to toughen up.’
    ————————-
    That came right from Ann Lewis. She said it was fine to point out the differences but Hillary would not support attacking a fellow democrat–those were Ann’s exact words to me when I asked her that question one on one prior to the campaign. I think she was walking a tight rope with the superdelegates and other factors were also in play. Media bias was a huge factor as well. Hell, we would have those same arguments here on this blog–some saying stay above the fray others like me, kostener and others saying take him down.

  76. wbboei,

    Ann was wrong!

    And HRC was . . . . . naive . . . . . to think she could play by the roolz.

    👿

  77. Panetta’s Pelosi Smackdown: A truth too hot to handle.

    Our guess is that Nancy Pelosi will come to regret her accusation on Thursday that CIA officials lied to her about their interrogation of terrorists. It took only a day for the agency to fire back, in the form of a statement from Director Leon Panetta, a Democrat, an Obama appointee and a long-time California Congressional colleague of the House Speaker.

    “CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah,” Mr. Panetta wrote in a memo to agency employees. “It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values.” A day earlier, Mrs. Pelosi had claimed that CIA officials had “misled” her at a September 4, 2002 briefing on enhanced interrogation techniques, including waterboarding of the likes of Zubaydah.

    Mr. Panetta had little choice but to publicly defend an agency whose morale he is now responsible for maintaining. However, on the merits, it seems highly implausible that the CIA would have lied to Mrs. Pelosi. Briefings are attended by more than one agency official, and a legislative liaison typically writes up a summary memo describing significant exchanges. Agency careerists hardly loved the Bush Administration after the Iraq WMD fiasco, and the controversy over “torture” has raged for years. If the CIA had misled Congress on a matter that was so politicized, surely someone in the agency would have leaked it long before now, if only to deflect blame onto the unpopular (and soon to depart) Republicans.

    Mrs. Pelosi is now caught in a humiliation of her own design that will only escalate if she insists on an interrogation “truth commission.” To adapt a famous phrase, we’re not sure her reputation can handle the truth.

  78. Wbboei, Basil9, we know quite a bit of what went on behind the scenes. On Rezko, the fear was that there were so many Middle East connections to the story that they did not want to stir up trouble. In their defense no matter what the campaign did it was attacked by Big Media “journalists” which were practically all Obama supporters. Our argument always was that fear of the future was not a viable strategy. Big Media had a favorite and Big Media and the stooge had to be taken down. The campaign thought it should play “nice” and not hit a fellow Democrat too roughly. Meanwhile Obama used every dirty trick.

    What the campaign forgot, which they should have remembered from the impeachment days, was that the attacks from Big Media, the SEIU financed Big Blogs (that is still a big undiscussed story), and Obama were coordinated – not happenstance. When Hillary made the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy charge it was after David Brock spoke with her and the lights finally went on in the White House that the attacks did indeed come from a central source. They refused to believe this was true during the campaign.

    We love all these wonderful horses. They are all winners but Rachel Alexander, our favorite, won.

    Yes, I agree- That filly is knock down drop dead gourgeous and smart too! Did you notice the upside down question mark on her face? There is a match race in the making there. The Jockeys banded together and litterally stopped “Mine that bird” from firing during the strech run. It is very noticiable in the over head view… you see a staggered line of horses walling off ‘Mine that Bird’ stalling his break out for 4 or 5 strides. When Velasquez found an opening, that horse fired like a rocket and almost had her.

    Rachael Alexandra ran her heart out to win that race. She has never been hit with a whip… after she felt the first sting from the jockey, she stalled a bit and didn’t know what to make of it… when she figured it out, she dug in and held off the charge from MTB…She never gave up! She’s just so damn smart, she reminded me of Hillary!

  80. Wbboei,6:01, I think what you are saying is what MSM is peddling, I personally don’t believe it. This was some sort of a payback. As you know HWBush was diplomat to China before he ran for President. I think it is a way to (as you say) help his resume’.
    Why in the world would we want a republican in charge of diplomatic relations with China???? Moderate is how they are marketing him, but who really knows who he is??? Afterall Obama was peddled as a democrat and we all know he is Bush III.
    MY PERSONAL OPINION IS THAT HUNTSMAN IS ANOTHER PUPPET FOR THE COMBINE ELETES!!!

  81. MAY 16, 2009

    Ink-stained Politicians: Newspapers shouldn’t get—or want—a government bailout.

    President Obama deserves credit for finally identifying an industry he doesn’t want to rescue — ours. Pressed about a bailout for struggling newspapers, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said last week that while it’s sad for cities to lose their daily papers, any public assistance “might be a tricky area to get into.” He added, “I don’t know what, in all honesty, government can do about it.”

    That wisdom apparently doesn’t extend to Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, who held a hearing on the future of newspapers — and how the federal government can help. “If we take seriously this notion that the press is the fourth estate, or the fourth branch of government,” Mr. Kerry said in a prepared statement, it’s time we consider its importance to democracy. Talk about a Freudian slip. Newspapers becoming the “fourth branch of government” is exactly what people most fear from any hand extended to save an independent press. Mr. Kerry is especially worried about the Boston Globe, which admires him greatly and was recently threatened with closure in a showdown between unions and its owner the New York Times Co. In its most recent endorsement of Mr. Kerry last October, the Globe enthused that “The case for reelecting John Kerry would be strong under any circumstances . . . [but] the country needs his voice more than ever.”

    Meanwhile, Maryland Senator Benjamin Cardin has introduced legislation to allow newspapers to convert into nonprofits. Under his Newspaper Revitalization Act, advertising and subscription revenue would get tax-exempt status, making the papers akin to public broadcasters. Writing in the Washington Post in March, Mr. Cardin was cautious to note that this deal “is targeted at local newspapers serving communities, not large newspaper conglomerates.” But the plan’s details could handicap local papers in making judgments on politicians.

    Newspapers that took the deal would be able to continue with news reporting as well as editorial and opinion pieces, but they would no longer be able to endorse candidates for office. In other words, the federal subsidy is combustible enough to jeopardize the integrity of political endorsements, but not enough to endanger critical reporting pieces. Of course, a publication or network’s reporting can play favorites whether or not the owner endorses any candidate. Think National Public Radio, which was built by government subsidies and whose reporting tends to favor the cause of bigger government.

    Mr. Kerry called newspapers an “endangered species,” and everyone knows the newspaper business model has to change. But other times in history have also seen waves of newspaper closures, without calls for a federal rescue. Papers closed in the 1960s as people began to get their post-work update from the nightly TV news. The Boston Post, which folded in 1956, was once one of the largest papers in the country, with more than one million readers. Among those who appeared at Mr. Kerry’s hearing hat-in-hand were Dallas Morning News publisher and executive vice president of A.H. Belo, James M. Moroney III. He endorsed a proposal by Montana Democrat Max Baucus and Maine Republican Olympia Snowe that would allow newspapers and other businesses to offset their net operating losses over five years instead of two, as well as greater antitrust flexibility for the industry. After that, Mr. Moroney suggested, Congress should consider establishing a “consent for content” principle to get online sources to pay “fair compensation” for content they pick up and then sell advertising on. So, although most newspapers are giving away their content free online, the feds should guarantee them a stipend from anyone who gets someone to pay for it. There’s a winning business model.

    The larger story here is that newspapers are enduring the familiar process of economic “creative destruction,” in this case brought on by the Internet. Advertisers are fleeing to search engines, while barriers to entry in publishing have crashed. Despite the pain this causes to certain companies, this is not much different than any other industry buffeted by new technology or business strategies. The shipping industry changed radically with the advent of containerization. Wal-Mart’s state-of-the-art inventory management transformed retailing. Apple’s iTunes has revolutionized the music industry.

    Some new business model will emerge for journalism, if not for all newspapers, and in the meantime the business of reporting the news isn’t vanishing. It is taking new forms and adapting, with newspapers growing their audiences online even as the sources of their revenue shift. The industry is currently debating how to charge customers for content, and no doubt many experiments will be tried. No matter who emerges victorious, the journalism business will be stronger and more credible if it avoids the government’s embrace.

    Now, about those bailouts for insurers, auto makers, Goldman Sachs . . .

    Exactly right. We all wanted a seasoned front man out there as Obama had so many attack dogs coming at her from all sides. Besides Hillary’s orders not to attack other Democrats there wasn’t anyone in her camp to say otherwise. They were quite happy their lives were made easier using their friendship to sell out Hillary to the other side.

  84. Wbboei, I believe that the Ford foundation is somehow connected to our Tim Guentner. I also heard that Obama’s mom worked for the Ford foundation as a microfinancier. Did Ford motor company get any bailout money?? I think its unusual that the govt. is closing many small Chrysler dealership across America. We will not have any dealership in our little town after this cut comes thru. Most people who are buying Chryslers right now don’t realize to have it serviced they will have to drive the car/truck to a large city for servicing or pay for it themselves. The gov’t promised to back the warranty on these cars, but they arent telling how far they will have to go to get them worked on. This administration is crooked. Gee, most place will only have a FORD dealership in their town.

  85. I agree, confloyd.

    Her career is finished. The Republicans will not let up on her now. Gingrich and Cheney have been unyielding calling her a LIAR eroding her credibility even further. They will keep on digging revealing more embarrassing skeletons from Pelosi’s closet and they won’t stop until she resigns.

    I will shed a tear when she resigns… Tears of Joy that is…

    haha! Should read an Exclamation point- no resemblance to Susan Boyle at all..

  88. Did Ford motor company get any bailout money??
    ————————————————
    No. Alan Mullally would not accept it.

  89. Here is how I see the upside of Hillary’s SOS position:

    Hillary is in reconnaissance mode. Her popularity is soaring and her critics are tongue tied, at least for the time being. Hillary is illustrating her strengths with stellar results, time after time after time. Hillary’s work and the result of her due diligence is the only good news we consistently read in print which of course reflects indirectly buoying Obama’s sub par performance as president.

    This may have been the best thing that could have happened to her. She is proving to the World and the doubters; she not only can talks the talk, but she can walk the walk when faced with difficult situations.

  90. Republicans may be the moving party, but the issue is bigger than partisan politics. The Mafia would call it being a “Man of Honor”. A man of honor stands by his decisions, accepts responsibility for his mistakes and does not throw the other members of his group to the wolves. This is tribal stuff. And it is the river of no return for Nancy. The legal defenses she is concocting this weekend do not matter a farthing.

  91. “The legal defenses she is concocting this weekend do not matter a farthing.”

    When there are classified transcripts, (I’m sure) of who attended, what was said, and the conclusions drawn from the meeting. Pelosi doesn’t have a three legged stool to stand on..

    wbb- I don’t doubt for a moment the Republicans are in collusion with BO and Axelrod in their mission to dump Nancy. The trade off may have been appointing the Utah Republican to a major post. Obama walks away with clean hands, then he has lunch.

  92. In the scheme of things there is the standard practice, and above standard practice there is the law, and above the law there is the constitution and above everthing there is something called megapolitics which is the law of organizational survival. Nancys transgression was and is megapolitical.

  93. Mrs. Smith: I do not see collusion here but I could be wrong. The Utah Republican appointment is an effort by Bambi to push the Crist model for the opposing party. This guy is another Crist who is another example of what McCain once was. It is an effort to weaken the opposing party. I doubt the repo understands how he is being used. He should confer with Brigham Young.

    The way things are going, she may just be the last true democrat left standing.

  97. The way things are going, she may just be the last true democrat left standing.

    That is not hyperbole; this country is so screwed. 2008 was a turning point for this country and we took the wrong turn.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    wbb- There is only “ONE” Party. They work in tandem like a well oiled machine. The minor skirmishes we hear about are nothing more than theater. Republican intervention is a forgone conclusion of how Bambi got elected. They gave him Florida.
    However, there is one Republican I do enjoy hearing from time to time (I wish I didn’t) and that is Lindsey Graham. He is their point man who lays out their case in clear concise terms as he did when he threw up his hands and said HALT- Acorn should not be receiving TARP Funds because they are under investigation for repeated abuses of FEC laws. This he said, just before the final vote.
    Just last week Graham was lashing Pelosi to the stake already laden with kindling wood, ensuring the forthcoming bonfire with his damning remarks at the same time defending Bush and the CiA..
    I may be wrong as well.. but I tend to believe my instincts on this one. I was raised by Republicans. They do occasionally comeover to our side if they see a benefit for themselves. In this economy… Obama has to be accesssible to them.
  99. I just saw Panetta’s letter re:CIA lied…he really pissed on Pelosi’s Jimmy Choo shoes:
    “There is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business. It predates my service with this great institution, and it will be around long after I’m gone. But the political debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday when the CIA was accused of misleading Congress,” Panetta said in a letter to employees.
    “Let me be clear: It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and our values. As the agency indicated previously in response to congressional inquiries, our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, describing ‘the enhanced techniques that had been employed.’ Ultimately, it is up to Congress to evaluate all the evidence and reach its own conclusions about what happened.”
  100. I should clarify this post upthread:
    Would it be too late booking Nancy’s (involuntary) retirement party at the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, PA?
    IIRC- Murtha was close to Pelosi at one time. His name was in consideration with Reid’s for Senate Majority Leader. Murtha and his shady dealings became problematic and ultimately he was cast aside for another crook, Reid.
    Murtha’s focus turned to lobbying hard for the funds to build an airport bearing his name (in remembrance of all the pork he brought home) I read recently, the airport is virtually empty- there is no traffic to speak of going through or to Johnstown.
  101. SHV, I agree she will be the only true democrat standing and the only statesperson who really cares about US, the common man. The others are worrying about their power and their pocket book.
    Mrs. Smith, Its the way I see it, there is no party any more, there is only one TEAM OF CROOKS that run the country and Hillary is managing to stay ahead of the idiots and is making herself look good.
    I am ready for Botox to go, but how I hate that the 1st woman speaker of the house is to be taken out in handcuffs!
  102. Yes, confloyd- “Hillary is managing to stay ahead of the idiots and is making herself look good.”
    Hillary’s hard work is reaping huge dividends enhancing her gravitas with World leaders. Documenting her ability through actions not just words effectively leading through intellectual diplomacy rather than brute obstructionism. She is demonstrating a sincere commitment from our country building Trust with our International neighbors.
    I have recorded discontent within the Obamasphere. Here are a few comments from his formerly most rabid supporters. Walls beginning to show hairline cracking as the Kool-Aid is slowly wearing off:
    1. This is sad.
    Who could have imagined this poll on this website just 4 months ago.
    The Poll was is Obama working for Wall St or the People. Choose one..
    The 2 choices were made into a poll. The vote was 48% (Wall St) to 52% (People)
    This from his most Rabid supporters..(The poll may have changed by the end of the day reflecting a more even split)
    2. . Look at where he has put all the money since taking office.
    Look at all the campaign promises he has already broken.
    Look at all the Goldman Sachs people running the Department of the Treasury.
    Look at efforts to implement a new Free Trade agreement with Panama, a tax shelter nation, after campaigning against free trade.
    It is Definitely Not too soon to tell if you open your eyes and look. He is surrounded by lobbyists and listening to nobody else but the lobbyists. He is doing everything that wall street wants and giving them everything on their wish list.
    Anyone who thinks he is championing people needs to make a list of how, and try to balance that against what he’s doing to champion corporations. I guarantee championing corporations wins by a wide margin.
    3. ..You nailed it, Thom.
    Sad but true.
    Indeed
    4.. Obama was my second to last choice. Hilary was my last because I thought she would be an even larger corporatist than Obama. I think I may have been mistaken. At this point the only thing I want from Obama is universal heath-care with a government option. I don’t think he is going to be able to do jack shit on anything else. If he pulls off health-care, he will get a second term. If he can’t do it then he will join Jimmy Carter as one of our most reviled one term presidents.
    The economy and the wars are going very badly with no signs of a turnaround. If things continue on this path, I predict the majority on this board are going to be calling for his head on pike by this time next year.
    Flamebait! You were bitching because
    5.. Prez Obama’s Inauguration cost too much. You’re not fooling anyone with your “poll” to try and get your “Obama is a corporate frontman” dig in.
  110. We are seeing a few diehard obama media cultists “supposedly” seeing the light. I think it is a fair weather/wishy washy clause in their contracts with him.
    In other words, it will only take him doing one thing right again, even if it is done by Hillary or someone else far wiser and more honest…for these apologists to swing back to him.
    I’m not trusting any of them anymore.
  111. Jan–you are right about this. I wish we could ask Maddow a follow-up question as follows:
    You have called Obama Bush III? And that is because he has reneged on his promises? And violated your values as a liberal? Values like . . . And you are aware of the fact that a prominent spokesman for the gay community has given him an “F” are you not?
    Well then let me ask you this question: all other things being equal, would you vote for him again after you trusted, campaigned for him and voted for him, only to find that after he took office he reneged on his promises to you and violated your values as you have just stated. A simple yes or no answer will do.
  112. Would it be too late booking Nancy’s retirement party at the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, PA?
    ——————————-
    I was thinking of L’Etoi restaunt on Nob Hill San Francisco across the street from the Mark Hopkins on the one side, and the Flood Mansion on the other and diagonal from the Fairmont–very rich and very expensive. Dinner for four might run you . . . oh maybe $2000. Too rich for my blood, but we all know Nancy likes to eat.
    The reason I suggest this location is because in the movie Pal Joey, they refer to Nob Hill as Snob Hill, and what better example of a snob than Madam Speaker.
  113. Mrs. Smith or Turndown: would anyone at PUMA be interested in taking that bumber sticker idea and running with it? There is no pride of authorship, and it might say big media darling and corporate shill rather than simply corporate shill. Cafe Press does this kind of thing. The timing for this could be very good.
    He is trying to change the party system from a competitive model to a collaborative one along the lines of the Illionis Combine, where the two parties work together to enrich themselves and screw the people. It is the old Mafia game of the vig. Someone asked me last night why I do not like Crist. After all, he is so moderate, they said. I told them I do not like him because he is not a moderate Republican, but rather a Combine Republican–willing to conspire with people like Wecksler to gift the nomination to Bambi and suppress the will of his voters. Ray La Hood is another example of this mutation.
  114. Theres no saving some of these idiots who refuse to admit they are standing on quicksand.
  117. There are alot of people in Congress who do not seem to grasp the seriouosness of the Pelosi default–judging by the public statements. They do not realize what it means to the safety of this country, if the speaker lies and throws an agency to the wolves that is charged with protecting our country.
    I see where this Steve Israel clown wants to challenge Guillabrand in the primary and Schumer has prevailed upon Bambi to tell him that there will be no primary in New York. I mention this because Joe Sestak may face the same dilemma in Pennsylvania. I think it stinks.
  124. Why should taxpayers subsidize the buggle whip industry when people are buying Model A Fords? An excellent question for John Kerry who is currently auditioning for the role of Lurch the Butler in yet another remake of the Adams Family as he tries to salvage a dying industry though tax avoidance legislation. From the WSJ article Jan posted:
    “The larger story here is that newspapers are enduring the familiar process of economic “creative destruction,” in this case brought on by the Internet. Advertisers are fleeing to search engines, while barriers to entry in publishing have crashed. Despite the pain this causes to certain companies, this is not much different than any other industry buffeted by new technology or business strategies. The shipping industry changed radically with the advent of containerization. Wal-Mart’s state-of-the-art inventory management transformed retailing. Apple’s iTunes has revolutionized the music industry.
    Some new business model will emerge for journalism, if not for all
    newspapers, and in the meantime the business of reporting the news isn’t vanishing. It is taking new forms and adapting, with newspapers growing their audiences online even as the sources of their revenue shift. The industry is currently debating how to charge customers for content, and no doubt many experiments will be tried. No matter who emerges victorious, the journalism business will be stronger and more credible if it avoids the government’s embrace.”
The media, by and large, think they are being “objective,” “ethical,” and morally just if they throw a few blunt edged daggers at the annoited one and that it gets them off the hook. I can just see them patting themselves on the back and saying “job well done, now lets go back to salivating over the false messiah!”
    Even if they did that, it still leaves Porter Goss who steadfastly maintains that at that time and on that occasion he and Botox Nan were jointly briefed by specific individuals from the CIA on the extreme interrogation techniques including waterboarding and she did not object. Hence, if the CIA fabricated these records to cover up the fact that she was not told about waterboarding, then he would have to be lying to. That is a bridge too far for most people. Before we call that one a Haynes however, we will need to go back and review his exact words, since this is from memory.
    The article did not specify MICRO-pay, but imo that’s the key. If my ISP bill each month included $2 for the total of seconds I spent actually reading various stories from Fox or whoever, I wouldn’t feel it, but it would help Fox a lot. They could log which stories people actually read past the first screen, see which journalists were actualy pulling in some money. Ebay and Google ads make a lot of money with tiny tiny charges. It just needs to be paid conveniently, like long distance on the phone bill.
    The way government could help would be — to fund development of software to do that. Put Gore on it.
    Jan- I may be reading far too much into Maddows comment, but I think we need to take the full measure of what she said. Maddow, an erstwhile true believer did not call him disappointing, wishie washie, inconsistent, not courageous or anything like that. Those accusations would be the kind of blunt daggers you refer to, since they would allow them to worship him while saying that he is still just human. That would be a comfortable position for her since she could have her cake and eat it too.
    But that is not what she said. She said he is Bush III. And to someone like her Bush is the anti-Christ, the puss pocket of evil, the perpetrator of original sin and worst of all Cheneys putative boss. For her to call her estwhile messiah the anti-Christ is rather remarkable. The words “Bush III” coming from Maddow says to me that in the moment at least she saw Bambi for what he really is through all the cigar smoke and Aqua Velva and was prepared to repudiate him. If that is true, then the operative question is whether that revulsion is sustainable.
  132. wwoebi,
    You are right about her. I’m waiting for the others to stop teetering back and forth.
  133. If that is true, then the operative question is whether that revulsion is sustainable.
    Excellent analysis…hopefully you are right and under the Kool-aid intoxication there still remains a thinking human being that will re-appear. If some of the most toxic Bambi supporters start to turn on him during the first six months then he is toast. As we know and they have denied, Obama’s behavior as President is not “bad” advice or “brilliant” political calculation…it’s the REAL OBAMA.
  134. Well the antichrist has just been awarded his honorary degree from the seat of GOD. Its an abomination!
  135. Someone needs to ask Maddow about Sebalius’ and Obama’s stand on the “conscience rule”:
    Sebelius”
    ““I can tell you right now that the President supports and I support a clearly defined conscience clause for providers and institutions. I always have……
    Obama = Bush III
  136. confloyd,
    You are being too kind. It is a crime of humanity in my humble opinion. Like giving Hitler the keys to the city.
  137. What will the new Speaker do about SS and family planning money, which Pelosi has been standing up for? (And FOCA, dunno Pelosi’s stand on that.)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In speaking to my mother this morning, she said the age for receiving full benefits from SS has been moved up to 67. That and a 2 yr moratorium on a COLA raise every year.

    Theres nothing to sing about with the current House leadership allowing these cuts and no objections coming from any of the House or Senate Dems either. Pelosi is all talk. When push came to shove, she was blind deaf and dumb to protecting SS from the raucous thieves.

  138. Admin: it just struck me how brilliant you were to label Obama Bush III. You said that before anyone else did and now it is going viral. The genius of that characterization is the fact that it CHANNELS the collective disgust and outrage over Bush and his policies to Mr. Obama. He is after merely another flavor of corporate shill. And of course it has the added advantage of being true.

    Moreover, this characterization places the bots who would defend him on the horns of a terrible dilemma: whether to repudiate him for the sake of their values, or to repudiate their values for the sake of him. They can no longer have it both ways. If they try they will be ridiculed for the hypocrites they are as the list of flip flops, lies and betrayals continues to grow. Never defend an indefensible position.

  139. This thing at Notre Dame makes me sick. It was Hillary who said “abortion should be safe, legal and rare”, not the idiot Obama. It was Hillary who said ” we must have dialog with our enemies” not Obama. He stole her ideas, her place at the graduation. It is her that should be getting an honorary degree. Oh how I hate what has happened to this great lady.
    Not only are they honoring this slug of society, but a thief and a liar.
    If you want to be sick listen to this CRAP!

  141. In speaking to my mother this morning, she said the age for receiving full benefits from SS has been moved up to 67.
    **************
    I am not sure but I think that is the result of SS reform under Reagan; the 1983 Amendment to Social Security which gradually increased the age for full benefits. For people born after 1960 the age if 67.

  142. SHV, I was born in 1950 and I have to work thru to 66. The rethugs started this and then they raided constantly so as to make it go broke.

  143. Confloyd: this was an improvident decision by the president of Notre Dame. It promotes secularism over the spiritual values which they purport to stand for as an institution. It has inflamed a substantial segment of their alumni around the world and FOX is reporting a loss of contributions. I will be having dinner soon with the Cuban banker who is a John of The Cross pre Vatican I Catholic, and will solicit his views on this matter. I shall report back what he has to say, but I can tell you right now that he will agree with you.

  144. SHV, I was born in 1957 but I believe I don’t get my full SS benefits until age 67 either.

  145. Back to Botox Nan for a minute.

    As Admin pointed out, Panetta categorically rejected Pelosi’s charge that the CIA misleads Congress. We must assume that when he said that, he was speaking as a California Democrat, the Head of the CIA, and most imporant of all, a representative of the Administration.

    Thus, his statement can be construed as a rejection of Pelosi by Bambi and his gang of thugs. As Queen Gwenevere once asked:

    Oh where are the simple joys of maidenhood?
    Are those sweet gentle pleasures gone for good?
    Shall a duel not begin for me?
    Shall kith not kill their kin for me?
    Oh where are the simple joys of maidenhood?

    (Camelot: by Leaner and Lowe. And as I utter that word, I sense there may be some rustling under the silk sheets of the Kenney compound)

  146. wbboei, I am Catholic, I think it is horrible. I would have loved Hillary to give the speech because she was the originator of the above mentioned beliefs. She really believed what she has said about abortion.
    Obama is a liar and usurper. He does not care at all about women.
    I think that is what I found so appalling.
    Many years ago all Catholics were democrats, but the abortion activasts have taken over the politics of it.
    THe republicans have cashed in on the abortion issue, while all the time their daughters are on birth control and have abortions.
    I believe the Hillary Clinton democratic ideals, not the commander in theifs.

  149. Netanyahu in U.S. to Meet Obama on Mideast Peace

    By Jonathan Ferziger

    May 17 (Bloomberg) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed in Washington ahead of a meeting with President Barack Obama as aides minimized speculation that their differences over Middle East peacekeeping would cause conflict.

    Netanyahu will spell out his reservations to Palestinian statehood during talks at the White House and also focus on how they can cooperate to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the prime minister’s national security adviser, Uzi Arad, told reporters today in Washington.

    “We are confident that a sense of pragmatism and the desire for progress will drive the discussion and what will decide the issue are the practicalities of the matter and not the rhetoric,” Arad said about peace efforts with the Palestinians.

    Obama, 47, is calling for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while Netanyahu remains skeptical. The White House meeting will be the first time that Netanyahu and Obama have met since both of them took office this year. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters last week that tomorrow’s meeting won’t be “as contentious” as some expect.

    On the flight from Israel, Netanyahu declined to say anything about what might develop when he meets Obama, though he and his wife Sara walked around the entire cabin to shake hands with reporters, aides and security agents.

    ‘Sense of Urgency’

    Arad spoke at a hastily organized press briefing conducted at Blair House, the U.S. guest house for visiting heads of state, after officials initially refused to answer questions about what Netanyahu, 59, expects when he meets Obama. “Iran is making progress all the time towards nuclear capability and the aim of both countries to block Iran from achieving that capability will definitely figure at the heart of the talks,” Arad said. “There is a sense of urgency on our side. The prime minister will emphatically emphasize the element of urgency.”

    Palestinian leaders say Obama must put pressure on Netanyahu to halt settlement expansion in the West Bank and accept the principle that peace talks be aimed at setting up a Palestinian state. They are also pushing to expand the talks so that a peace agreement with Israel includes all Arab countries, a position Israeli President Shimon Peres endorsed today.

    Peres, who spoke at the closing session of the World Economic Forum in Jordan, said that the “time has come to make peace on a regional level.”

    ‘Relationship of Trust’

    Peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas were halted after the start of a 22-day Israeli offensive against the Islamic Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip that ended on Jan. 18. Netanyahu has replaced Ehud Olmert, who supported Palestinian statehood, as Israeli prime minister.

    Obama and Netanyahu will also discuss the possibility of renewing peace talks with Syria, aides said. “Neither the U.S. nor Israel is looking to pick fights with each other, but for the meeting to be judged a success, Obama and Netanyahu must show they’re building a relationship of trust and converging interests,” David Makovsky, co-author of the forthcoming book, “Myths, Illusions and Peace: Finding a New Direction for America in the Middle East,” said in an e-mail.

    Iran’s Nuclear Program

    Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said yesterday that Israel and the U.S. are working together to halt Iran’s nuclear program. Both countries, he said, are trying to enlist international support for tighter sanctions against Iran. “I think we will not take action in Iran without coordinating with the U.S. and we expect the U.S. to coordinate with us,” he said during an appearance in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, according to a transcript e-mailed by his office. “If the world would just work together with determination and impose sanctions, then we may not need military action,” he said.

    Netanyahu’s White House visit comes a week before Obama hosts Abbas and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss Middle East peace efforts. Jordan’s King Abdullah II was in Washington in April to meet Obama.

  150. Pelosi Must Provide Proof or Apology on CIA Memo, Boehner Says

    By Romaine Bostick

    May 17 (Bloomberg) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should provide proof of her allegation that the Central Intelligence Agency misled her about terrorism-related interrogation tactics or apologize for her accusations, Republican leaders said. “If the speaker is accusing the CIA and other intelligence officials of lying or misleading the Congress then she should come forward with evidence and turn that over to the Justice Department,” House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio said on CNN’s “State of the Union” today. “If that’s not the case, I think she ought to apologize to our intelligence officials.”

    Pelosi sparked a fight last week when she said the CIA gave “inaccurate and incomplete information” about a simulated drowning tactic known as waterboarding and other interrogation methods during a briefing in September 2002 when she was the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. CIA Director Leon Panetta said Pelosi was “briefed truthfully.”

    “We know what the CIA believes, the speaker apparently disagrees with that,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said on “Fox News Sunday” today. “The best way for the dispute to be resolved is through the intelligence committees. At some point we’ll find out what the truth is.”

    Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine said his party still has faith in Pelosi. Her job is secure, Kaine, who is also the governor of Virginia, told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
    Senator Jim Webb, a Virginia Democrat and Vietnam veteran, said “I just don’t think it’s that big a deal,” and that the issue “will resolve itself.”

    ‘Ignore the Noise’

    Pelosi responded May 15 to Panetta’s comments with a statement in which she blamed former President George W. Bush’s administration in the dispute about what she knew, not “the dedicated men and women of the intelligence community.” “My criticism of the manner in which the Bush administration did not appropriately inform Congress is separate from my respect for those in the intelligence community who work to keep our country safe,” Pelosi said.

    Panetta, in his statement, told his CIA colleagues that while “there is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business,” the “debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level” when Pelosi at a May 14 news conference accused the CIA of misleading Congress.
    Panetta, who, before a stint as President Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff, was a Democratic House member from California, advised CIA employees to “ignore the noise and stay focused on your mission.”

    2002 Briefing

    Pelosi has said she was never directly briefed about the use of waterboarding to interrogate terror suspects. Waterboarding was only mentioned in the Sept. 4, 2002, briefing as a tactic the Bush administration had deemed legal, she said.

    A chart of CIA congressional briefings disclosed last week showed that CIA officers gave Pelosi “a description of the particular” enhanced interrogation techniques “that had been employed” on suspected al-Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah. A Justice Department legal memo says Zubaydah was waterboarded 83 times during the month before Pelosi’s briefing.

    At her May 14 news conference, Pelosi said for the first time that one of her aides told her in February 2003 that the CIA had briefed other lawmakers about the use of waterboarding. Pelosi said she didn’t object because the then-ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Jane Harman, wrote a letter of protest.

    I wonder if Rachel and her jockey have suffered the indignities that Hillary did. From what I have read just prior to the race, the other jockies were making remarks veiled in sexism.

    Yes she is a horse, but even so I think the parallels here are amazing.

  163. Jan,

    i DOUBT that! Calvin Borel, who rode Mine that Bird to victory in the Derby, was her jockey. He gave up bird for Rachel coz he thinks she’s the best horse he’s ever ridden. She wasn’t even scheduled for the race until last week and i think it’s coz the original owner wasn’t sure she’d recovered enough from her last race to tackle the Preakness.

    (Not that I don’t think Bird would have won if he’d broken through the pack a few lengths earlier.)

    But what i am disturbed by is hearing Rachel was bought for millions of dollars but some wine titan just a couple of weeks ago. I believe up to that point she’d been trained by an older guy, Wiggins, i thnk who’d been in racing all his life.

    This other guy is just a trophy hunter who wants breeding rights. 👿

  164. Basil9, I was merely commenting on how he uses that rythmic speech to hypnotise the idiots. I even heard him banging on the podium at the end of each phrase to emphasize the rythm.

    I agree is disgusting, but some people will be taken in.

  165. janh, confloyd,

    JEEZZZZZ!!!!!!! I must sound particularly obnoxious today! So sorry if I’m coming off as snippy. Don’t mean to! Seems to happen when I’m particularly impassioned about something (in this case Bird, Rachel, Calvin and BO.)

    confloyd, for the life of me i still can’t see wtf anyone finds admirable about BO. But, ya gotta hand it to him, he had no problems finding millions of idiots.

    Of course the CIA can create any transcripts they want and put any time stamp on them. They’re spooks, forging documentation is part of their job.
    ———————————
    Even if they did that, it still leaves Porter Goss who steadfastly maintains that at that time and on that occasion he and Botox Nan were jointly briefed by specific individuals from the CIA on the extreme interrogation techniques including waterboarding and she did not object. Hence, if the CIA fabricated these records to cover up the fact that she was not told about waterboarding, then he would have to be lying to.

    ===================

    Considering the lynch mob gathered around her, Goss would have to be pretty brave to stick his head in that noose too. Even if he had no motive to see her gone or weakened.

  167. Goss would have to be pretty brave to stick his head in that noose too

    If he had a motivation to lie, it would be to avoid possible prosecution. If that were the case he, would have agreed with Pelosi….The, “I have no memory of” defense….I don’t think that one worked at Nuremberg either.

    It’s more likely that Pelosi (and Goss or anyone who agrees with her version) would be prosecuted for ‘lying’ — than that any Congresspeople would be prosecuted as War Criminals.

  169. 1.) According to the link below, Rachel Alexandra’s orignal owners didn’t want to run her because they didn’t believe fillies should run against colts. Rachel Alexandra was bought, obviously as an investment, but also, according to the owner, so that the best horses would race against each other. Why hold back the filly, just cuz she’s female?

    2.) As far as the other horses blocking Mine That Bird, that appears to be normal in a horse race. A horse race is not just speed, it’s also running with other horses in close prximity. Obviously, horses and riders do not want to be passed by horses behind them. Mine That Bird was lucky in the Kentucky Derby to find so many holes to run through…and of course he had amazing speed. Cheers to Rachel Alexandra for getting out in front early, not getting blocked in and holding on to win.

    3.) Rachel Alexandra started from the 13th post, a post from which no other horse had ever won the Preakness.

    4.) It is totally unknown whether Mine That Bird could have caught Rachel Alexandra coming up the stretch as the race was essentially over by the time he got close enough (i.e., Borel and Rachel Alexandra may have been slowing down already at the finish line….as was Mine That Bird.)

    Anyway, to me, there is no qualification on Rachel Alexanra’s win.

    AmeriCorps Paramilitary Propaganda Ad

    youtube.com/watch?v=fhUMDFMf1fQ&feature=

    In the distinctly militaristic propaganda here, the AmeriCorps organization City Year adopts Obama’s “change” mantra and remixes it with clips of Mohandas Gandhi, the Rev. Martin Luther King, César Chávez, and Mother Teresa.

    City Year’s pitch is obviously directed at middle school and high school students. In the ad, young people are assembled on a parade ground in bright red jackets. According to a Wikipedia write-up on the organization, “corps members start their day in an event called unity rally. One aspect of unity rally is PT or physical training. Some of the exercises may include jumping jacks and lunges. When PT is completed, Corps members read their sites official newspaper, called Daily or Weekly Briefings.” Comparisons to the Jungsturm Adolf Hitler and Stalin’s Komsomol are unmistakable, especially in regard to the regimented physical training aspects of City Year.

    It should be noted that AmeriCorps is fully integrated into the homeland security apparatus. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

    It should be noted that AmeriCorps is fully integrated into the homeland security apparatus. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

    Frank Morales writes (Homeland Defense: The Pentagon Declares War on America):

    In the wake of 9/11, CNCS was fully integrated into “homeland defense efforts”. In March 2002, the Corporation issued a “notice of availability of funds to strengthen communities and organizations in using service and volunteers to support homeland security.” With an emphasis on “public safety” and “freeing up police time”, the grants offered under the announcement “are to assist communities in getting involved in the war against terrorism on the home front.” In the area of “public safety” the grants “will help provide members to support police departments… in tasks and other functions that can be performed by non-sworn officers.” Now mind you, the volunteers “are not armed, nor can they make arrests, but they carry out vital tasks including organizing neighborhood watch groups…” They also “organize communities to identify and respond to crime and disorder problems…”

    Obama has proposed arming these cadres. Recall his speech on July 2, 2008, when he said: “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military.

    “Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the Corporation has made funding available to organizations whose focus includes homeland security,” declares the Virginia Commission for National and Community Service. “AmeriCorps engages more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other areas,” the IN.gov site states.

    AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is specifically tasked with homeland security, according to The United States Conference of Mayors. “AmeriCorps NCCC, a residential, team-based program, offers approximately 1,300 young people between the ages of 18 to 24 the opportunity to serve their country for ten months on various projects. The primary focus of these are assisting in responding disaster relief and homeland security,” reports Shannon Holmes. The NCCC “are well positioned to leverage existing community efforts,” according to the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and “can make significant contributions to homeland security activities in American communities.”

    NCCC programs “may also meet homeland security needs, which the Corporation for National Service defines as engaging citizens and communities in preparedness and response to acts of terrorism and other disasters,” explains the AmeriCorps State Concept Paper Guidelines.

    According to reports issued by the Department of Homeland Security, terrorism now stems from domestic “rightwing extremists,” not a far-flung al-Qaeda, and activities such as advocacy of the Second Amendment, pro-life activism, and the growing states’ rights movement threaten the fatherland.

    As noted on Alex Jones’ Infowars and Prison Planet websites last week, Homeland Security has captured the heretofore non-political Boy Scouts and turned it into a paramilitary organization. As the New York Times notes, Boy Scouts are now training to disarm military veterans.

    On April 21, Obama signed the “Serve America Act,” which will use $1.1 billion in earmarks from the 2010 budget to reauthorize and expand programs offered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The “Serve America Act,” co-sponsored by Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy, intends to extend AmeriCorps membership from 75,000 to 250,000 by 2017.

    “Although it’s likely that the recession and citizen goodwill have contributed to soaring numbers in national and international service organizations, it’s also just as likely that most people are just supporting a summoning from America’s new favorite man,” writes the OhMyGov website.

  179. What Did Rahm Know?

    By William Kristol | May 17, 2009

    Commentators have been struck — though not perhaps as much as they should have been — by the extraordinary character of CIA Director Leon Panetta’s blunt and stark rebuke of Nancy Pelosi. Responding to political debates that “reached a new decibel level [Thursday] when the CIA was accused [by Pelosi] of misleading Congress,” Panetta wrote Friday that “our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah.”

    But did Panetta simply decide on his own to send this letter? It’s almost inconceivable. Panetta is a former member of Congress and a former White House chief of staff. President Obama made him CIA director only four months ago. Even if his motivation for the letter was in part driven by an institutional imperative to defend his agency, Panetta would have understood the political implications of humiliating a House speaker of his own party. He surely at least ran the letter by White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to get clearance. It’s also possible that Panetta was encouraged to send the letter by Emanuel.

    This raises the question: Does Emanuel (and, presumably, President Obama) want a chastened Pelosi to remain speaker? Or are they following the model of the Bush White House in December 2002. Then, Karl Rove, on behalf of the president, played a behind-the-scenes role in nudging out Majority Leader Trent Lott — a legislator for whom the White House had little respect, but who had his own power base in Congress, so wasn’t easy for the White House to control? Are Emanuel and Obama happy to be deal in the future with a weakened Pelosi? Or do they want a new speaker, presumably Steny Hoyer?

    Or did Panetta just send the letter on his own?

    It would be interesting to ask Robert Gibbs, at Monday’s White House press briefing, whether, before sending his Friday letter, Panetta discussed it with anyone at the White House. And with whom? What did Rahm Emanuel know about the Panetta letter, and when did he know it?

  181. jbstonesfan,

    I cannot honestly see Netanyahu agreeing to a two-state solution at this point given that it would border Israel and could very easily become a Hamas-ridden armed/terrorist leadership. I still see him standing his ground. I can’t see him giving up Eastern Jerusalem and nor should he. He will push the Iran nuclear weapon issue more than anything else.

    Obama Says He’s Spock Then Misuses English Language
    By Warner Todd Huston (Bio | Archive)
    May 17, 2009 – 06:36 ET

    Remember how the left always asserted that George W. Bush was stupid? Remember how they were so thrilled to have the Obamessiah that spoke so well, a president that was perpetually the smartest man in the room? Well, after the many stammering TelePrompter free stump debacles during the campaign, many began to doubt this claim of his superior intelligence. Here is another small dent in that perception. That no one in the media is crowing about this as they always did with Bush is telling.

    Newsweek conducted a Q and A with the president at the end of which appears a few questions concerning his recent choices of entertainment. During the Q and A The One admitted he watched the reboot of Star Trek in the White House movie theater claiming that everyone was saying he was Spock. But two other things he said clanged badly: one arrogant and the other somewhat ignorant.

    First the arrogant:

    And the last movie you saw?

    Now, movies I’ve been doing OK [with] because it turns out we got this nice theater on the ground floor of my house … So Star Trek, we saw this weekend, which I thought was good. Everybody was saying I was Spock, so I figured I should check it out and–[the president makes the Vulcan salute with his hand].

    So The One likes to be called Mr. Spock, eh? That is bad enough, but the fact that he so automatically called the White House “my house” is simply as arrogant as it comes. It isn’t “your” house Mr. President. It’s the people’s! The man’s sense of entitlement is disgusting.

    Next the ignorant:

    Did you watch that when you were growing up?

    I used to love Star Trek. You know, Star Trek was ahead of its time. There was a whole–the special effects weren’t real good, but the storylines were always evocative, you know, there was a little commentary and a little pop philosophy for a 10-year-old to absorb.

    I find it amusing that the “Spock” of the White House, the smartest president evah doesn’t know the difference between “evocative” and “provocative.” By the later half of his sentence Obama clearly meant provocative, not evocative.

    The word evocative simply means to provoke emotional response or memories. But by focusing on “philosophy” and “commentary” Obama obviously meant that Star Trek provoked thinking so it was intellectually provocative not emotionally evocative. Additionally, how much evoking can a 10-year-old indulge?

    So, why doesn’t the smartest man in the world know the difference between provocative and evocative?

    Maybe he isn’t as smart as the left would have it?

    So, will we see Jon Stewart making fun of this? How about a broadside by Bill Maher? A slap by Olbermann or Maddow? Don’t hold your breath!

    (As for me, I saw Trek last night. Fun film. Unfortunately, it never once felt like Star Trek to me. But it did evoke some fond memories with its homage to the original series!)

  184. JanH, I don’t know what the truth is obviously, but i was in Panetta’s district when he was our rep and he always struck me as thoughtful, intelligent, and fair- not an idealogue, but a middle of the roader. When I first heard of his letter, I felt it was a sincere reflection of his thoughts. It doesn’t strike me that he was ever a great friend of Pelousy, his manner is not in alignment with Rahm’s obnoxiousness, and of course, the letter served him well in ingratiating himself to the CIA. Who knows what forces are behind it, however.
