Caroline Kennedy’s Lack of Judgment And The Age Of Fake

The age of contempt for experience and adoration of fake change and fake hope, exemplified by Barack Obama, is here.

The fake hope and the fake change are poses struck by a fake Democrat and fake president. The age of fake was introduced by the fake music that was played at the fake inaugural with its fake oath.

Today is day 3 of the age of fake. Today the New York Times, peeved because Obama has refused to provide it with an interview, has taken revenge by revealing that the “live” music at the “inaugural” on Tuesday was recorded and played as if it were live – fake.

No disclaimer of the fake music was provided to Americans. In the age of fake, live or “Memorex“- it’s all the same. More Milli-Vanilli from fake Barack Obama.

* * *

On day 2 of the age of fake, we also received more news of the fake supposedly “done deal” appointment of fake Caroline Kennedy.

We did not think it was a “done deal”. On December 14, 2008, before the age of fake became official we wrote about the supposed “done deal”:

The Caroline Kennedy power grab is running out of air due to the resistance from Hillary supporters and because of the stench fouling out from Chicago. [snip]

Caroline Kennedy will not be the next senator from New York. Upstate New York opposition will prevent Governor Paterson from naming her as will the influence peddling stench from Chicago.

If not for strong oppostion from Hillary Supporters and upstate New Yorkers Caroline Kennedy would be a Senator – this is the age of fake afterall.

Hillary Supporters and upstate New Yorkers will not oppose the Governor Paterson appointee Kirsten Gillibrand, from upstate New York. If Caroline Kennedy was the appointee, Hillary Supporters would have opposed not only Caroline Kennedy but Governor Paterson in 2010. Fortunately Governor Paterson displayed some wisdom and judgement while Caroline Kennedy displayed none.

Caroline Kennedy displayed a lack of judgment, stupidity and cupidity, – when she endorsed Barack Obama.

Caroline Kennedy displayed a lack of basic decency and manners when she conspired with Uncle Ted to backstab Hillary Clinton and endorsed Barack Obama. Americans were badly served by Caroline Kennedy and her endorsement which if given today would be utterly worthless.

In the age of fake Caroline Kennedy expected to be appointed Senator then run for election in 2010 and for a full term in 2012. But Caroline Kennedy could not win an election. We remember Caroline Kennedy did not convince the citizens of New York or Massachusetts to join her in her lack of judgment and her backstabbing during the primaries – Hillary Clinton won both states easily.

In the age of fake Caroline Kennedy insulted the memory of her murdered father by favorably comparing the fake Barack Obama to the real real John Fitzgerald Kennedy. JFK was real and experienced, not fake.

John Kennedy won the presidency before passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. Kennedy was young but had a great deal of experience in political life. Kennedy toured Europe, the Soviet Union and the Middle East in the fateful year 1939. On the day before Germany invaded, John Kennedy was in Poland. Kennedy’s Harvard senior thesis completed in 1940 was “Appeasement in Munich”. Kennedy by the end of the war was a war hero. Kennedy served with regular Joes in the U.S. Navy. Kennedy saved the lives of his crew. John Kennedy from the elite schools and elite background was loved by working class whites and blacks. John Kennedy was no egghead.

JFK was real, not fake. But his daughter confused Americans by equating fake Barack Obama with real JFK.

In the age of fake, Caroline Kennedy shares shameless audacity with fake Barack Obama. Our commentor Birdgal dared say the following: Ms. Kennedy was part of the vetting process for VP. Doesn’t that seems hypocritical? No wonder, Richardson’s difficulties seemed manageable.

In the age of fake, those like Caroline Kennedy and Barack Obama demand ethics from others, question others with long questionnaires they themselves refuse to answer because the answers would prove self-destructive and impede their career advancement.

The fake Caroline Kennedy, like the fake John Edwards is alleged to have an affair with the publisher of the New York Times. The many New York Times articles and columns published to glorify Caroline Kennedy and get her a Senate seat never mentioned the affair. It is hard to believe that Hillary Hater and New York Times gossip of imaginary conversations, Maureen Dowd, was not aware of the affair her publisher friend and fake Caroline Kennedy were having. Dowd and the other Times “writers” kept quiet. Little wonder that Americans are turning away from these fake news outlets.

Fake Caroline Kennedy has tax and other problems which preclude her fake friend Barack Obama from gifting her a job without a complete rejection of ethics rules and laws. Unlike fake Barack Obama, Caroline Kennedy did not receive the Big Media protection (except for the New York Times) that she expected to receive.

Caroline Kennedy has embarrassed herself, annoyed the people of New York, and humiliated and damaged Governor Paterson, and demonstrated that her judgment, particularly her primary endorsement of Barack Obama, is not to be trusted. The realization that Caroline Kennedy’s judgment is not to be trusted comes too late for America -and for Americans who valued Caroline Kennedy and her family sufficiently to trust their word when voting.

In the age of fake even Big Media is discovering what a fake their tool Obama is.

Fake Obama has made a great show with fake gestures. Obama trumpted religion and the Lincoln Bible at his fake first oath with the fake music but in private he showed his disdain for the Bible. The Bible is not necessary to take an oath, but Obama made a great show of the Bible in public. In private Obama discarded the Bible like a cheap paperback – it reminded us of Obama in San Francisco mocking “bitter” Americans from small towns while campaigning in small town Pennsylvania.

Obama made a great show on day 2 of fake “close Guantanamo” executive orders , but Big Media says the “close Guantanamo” orders are fake:

There may be less than meets the eye to the executive orders President Obama issued yesterday to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay and prohibit the torture of prisoners in American custody. Those pronouncements may sound dramatic and unequivocal, but experts predict that American policy towards detainees could remain for months or even years pretty close to what it was as President Bush left office.

Fake Obama can’t be trusted… he simply cannot be trusted by friend nor foe.

Here are a few of the delays, caveats and loopholes that could limit the impact of Obama’s orders:

1. Everyone has to follow the Army Field Manual—for now… [snip]

However, the order also created an interagency commission which will have six months to examine whether to create “additional or different guidance” for non-military agencies such as the CIA. One group that represents detainees, the Center for Constitutional Rights, deemed that an “escape hatch” to potentially allow enhanced interrogations in the future. [snip]

2. Obama ordered a 30-day review of Guantanamo conditions—by the man currently responsible for Guantanamo. [snip]

3. Obama vowed no torture on his watch, but force-feeding and solitary confinement apparently continue at Guantanamo for now. [snip]

The Bush administration has argued that the feeding is humane and that the solitary, at least as practiced now, is not the kind of total isolation that amounts to torture. “There’s an important distinction to be made between isolation and separation” from other prisoners,” Waxman said. [snip]

4. The vast majority of detainees in American custody may see no benefit from Obama’s orders

While Obama ordered a case-by-case review of the 245 prisoners held at Guantanamo, the 600 prisoners held in indefinite American custody in Afghanistan and roughly 20,000 in Iraq won’t get such attention. [snip]

5. The orders downplay the possibility that some prisoners might be set free in America. [snip]

6. Military commissions are shut down…. for now [snip]

But the Obama administration is not ruling out returning to some sort of military forum to deal with some of the prisoners.

Addled by Hopium, many Obama supporters still believe in the fake changes by the fake Obama. Obama still has many Hopium addled supporters in Big Media but some are waking up now that their livelihoods are threatened:

A growing media frustration with Barack Obama’s team spilled into the open at Thursday’s briefing, with reporters accusing the White House of stifling access to his oath re-do and giving Obama’s first interview as president to a multi-million dollar inauguration sponsor.

Veteran CBS newsman Bill Plante was one of the most vocal critics, questioning the White House’s handling of Wednesday night’s second swearing in – which was covered by just a four-reporter print pool that didn’t include a news photographer or TV correspondent.

He also asked new press secretary Robert Gibbs why ABC, which paid millions to host the DC Neighborhood Ball, was granted the only inauguration day interview with President Obama – a move he equated to “pay to play.”

Pay-to-play. We could not have said it better ourselves Bill Plante.

Big Media is wary of their tool Barack Obama. Obama has additional plans to slip off their leash and has signaled that they plan to shake up some of the old traditions of White House coverage, some of the longest-standing – and most jealously guarded – in town.

Obama talks a flowery game but he and his words are fake. Transparency? No:

Before Gibbs took the podium, reporters were given a background briefing under an agreement to only attribute information to “senior administration officials”—a policy some news organizations object to as a matter of policy.

Big Media is learning that Obama really does not like to answer questions:

President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question.

Asked how he could reconcile a strict ban on lobbyists in his administration with a Deputy Defense Secretary nominee who lobbied for Raytheon, Obama interrupted with a knowing smile on his face.

“Ahh, see,” he said, “I came down here to visit. See this is what happens. I can’t end up visiting with you guys and shaking hands if I’m going to get grilled every time I come down here.”

Pressed further by the Politico reporter about his Pentagon nominee, William J. Lynn III, Obama turned more serious, putting his hand on the reporter’s shoulder and staring him in the eye.

“Alright, come on” he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. “We will be having a press conference at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys – that’s all I was trying to do.”

The president was quickly saved by a cameraman in the room who called out: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.’ ”

Thug Obama does not want to be questioned about his lies on rejecting lobbyists. So thug Obama threatens. Thug Obama also tells the nerds in the Big Media room he will not hang out in their frat house if they ask him questions. A Big Media cameraman demonstrates how fake our Big Media is.

In the age of fake their are some genuine diamonds.

Here’s what a real president looks like: A real president who knows and values the importance of experience; who knows she can engage in debate and come out a winner; who will not tolerate division but will demand full authority not disputed by know-nothings on Pennsylvania Avenue or at the Pentagon.

Here’s what a real president looks like [full Transcript HERE] :

Hillary Clinton is a genuine diamond in the age of fake.

The morning after she was easily confirmed by the Senate, Mrs. Clinton was greeted by a crowd of more than a thousand State Department employees, cheering and whooping like a campaign gathering.

“This is going to be a great adventure,” Mrs. Clinton said to employees in a lively 10-minute address, as people craned to see her from a balcony in the flag-lined lobby of the State Department.

Mrs. Clinton said she sought a “sense of openness and candor in this building,” and invited people to “think outside the proverbial box,” which drew a yelp from a man in the crowd. She promised “robust diplomacy” and “effective development” to restore America’s standing overseas.

Caroline Kennedy is a fake who endorsed fake Barack Obama. Barack Obama is a race-baiting, gay-bashing, sexist Chicago thug.

Hillary is a genuine diamond and the only genuinely bright jewel in the American Future.

    Amen!
I didn’t know about the NYT editor affair rumors but if true that expalns a lot, no? Too bad the Globe didn’t uncover that a month ago.
I have mixed emotions about Gillibrand; I live in a bordering county, but the town boards I cover are thrilled with the choice and have been hinting it would be her for the past week. Upstate agriculture and agro-forestry initiatives are hoping for support for soon-to-be Senator Gillibrand.

  2. For the present Hillary is the finished glowing diamond of this new administration and will serve us well at home and abroad.
She now has assumed two new positions of power. They are SOS and co-President,ready to guide this country through the most troubling times in our history.Just watch her bloom where we have planted her and the steady hand at the helm.

Although President Obama swept into office pledging transparency and a new air of openness, the press hammered spokesman Robert Gibbs for nearly an hour over a slate of perceived secretive slights that have piled up quickly for the new administration. It wasn’t pretty.

“Why did the administration believe it was important for the American people not to know the name of the two senior administration officials who briefed us this morning on Guantanamo?” one reporter asked in the packed and steaming hot briefing room just off the White House West Wing.

    [snip]

“How is it transparent,” another reporter asked, “when you control the only image of the re-swearing – there’s nobody in there but four print reporters, there’s no stills, there’s no television? And the only recording that comes out, as I understand it, is one that a reporter made, not one that the White House supplied.”

  4. After reading today’s post i am reminded of Sec of State Clinton writing about how in high school she ran for president and lost but ended up actually doing all of the work and still deriving pleasure from the experience. Its in Living History and I will try to locate the direct quote later today. Has anyone gotten around to writing a childrens book about Clinton? Everything is Disney!!

  5. gillibrand for hillary’s senate seat in NY. Liberals are crying. I know that over on Hillbuzz they have been pushing her for a while…..

  6. Admin, can you clarify your last post for me a bit? Maybe I need more coffee or something, but I’m just not understanding exactly what happened. There were two Senior Administration Officials whose names they wouldn’t disclose? Yet these two individuals gave a press briefing? Doesn’t make sense…it’s not like anyone couldn’t discover who those individuals are.

    Am I missing something here?

  7. admin
thankyou for the link to HRC book!!!!!
Doing my bit to raise a little one and much to my chagrin she loves the princess theme. Ar 27 months she can count to 30 and recognizes all her letters but damn her she opts for cinderella over Jane Eyre. Fortunately her favorite tv show is dora.

  8. Idunn, Robert Gibbs started the press briefing by announcing that he wanted those present to agree not to disclose the names of the administration officials he was about to introduce. Gibbs then introduced several “Senior Administration Officials” who gave a briefing.

During the press briefing question and answer period, Gibbs used the name of one of those “secret” briefers (Craig).

The issue is that the B.O. administration promised transparency but wants to continue a practice that hides information from the public.

  9. Their will be a price for endorsing Obama, and the people that will pay are the endorsers (Edwards, C Kennedy, Dean, Richardson, Kerry and the list wil go on).

Pay to Play is going on all over, and the Blog incident will have far reaching effects. I still do not understand the difference between his game, and the one O played at the primaries and the convention when he definently was promising money, support, and retalization to steal this election. I am sure his major finanacial supporters were making the pay to play (obviously the viewing of the second oath paid off for one). O promised something, and I am sure threaten something to many to steal the election. He tried hard to steal the nations voters, but they were not for sale.

When you marry someone, you get all the flaws. O gave the press plenty of examples of how he would behave, and they stuck their noses up his Axx. People do not change after you marry them. If anything those habits you don’t like get worse.

Big media played a selfish and undemocratic game during the primary and general election. It went against fairness, honest, women, and the freedom of the press. So we shall see if they survive.

There is an old expression, you reap what you sow. Many American dimocratic politicians are beginning to do that, and it can not happen to them quick enough.

You thought you would kill the Clintons and go on to make this a kingdom for O. However, you did not count on the American people choosing HRC. Those supporters have not gone away, moved or or folded in, and we will rise like the Phoenix at every turn.

  10. Great article admin! this is truly a real life fairytale or better yet…. its a soap opera of “theives and fakes”

This reminds me of something i caught on fox yesterday about the captain of air force one [For Pres. Bush]
I was working so didn’t get to catch it all but…

Obama says to the captain as he meets him at the plane ” you’re exactly how i would have pictured the captain to look”
and something else about “AS IF he had been sent from central casting

I swear it was the dumbest thing i have heard him say yet, he was referring to the “LOOKS” of this captain and that he
LOOKED THE PART made no mention about or asked about the captains “experience” or how important that is
or how it was comforting to be in his “experienced hands” just that he looked like the perfect actor to play the part of
    air force one’s captain.

I would love to see the clip of that again… and it should be blasted everywhere as it is all about how things “appear” with obama
not what they truly are… SICKENING!!

  11. Today’s post got me all choked up – first thing in the morning. (Thanks, Admin.)
Through the decades, Hillary has been dogged by some of the most fundamental unfairness insidiously lingering in our society; I’ll bet that many of the women (and men) in this forum have experienced similar things in our lives. I know I have.
80’s Arkansas didn’t like Hillary Rodham Clinton assuming a mantle of equality; 90’s national political insiders didn’t like her defacto equality and partnership in life with her husband, or the way it manifested – engaging in real issues and working honestly in the light of day on an important one that would threaten the status quo of several industries; 2000s brought typical fire from left and right followed by senatorial triumphs, but also an election stolen by the party establishment, the media and a “fake” – despite her popular support.
And, the goals of women’s and African Americans collided in history – just as they had in the days of fighting for universal suffrage. At that time, Women rolled up their sleeves and got to work helping win suffrage for AA’s, despite the fundamental unfairness of putting the welfare of few ahead of many. Just as Hillary worked for Obama in 2008, despite the unfairness and wrongheadedness of her own political party.
Through all her remarkable career, she has been the embodiment of the American spirit – pure grace under fire, rolling up her sleeves and getting busy with whatever work she sought or was given – since she views working for others as a rare privilege.
We’re are privileged by her example. Bloom where you’re planted, indeed.

NEW YORK – Stocks are bouncing off earlier lows, but mostly still falling in midday trading. Weak corporate earnings reports are stirring concerns that the recession will be deeper and longer lasting that predicted.

Reports from a range of industries are providing fresh evidence about the struggling economy. Xerox and Harley Davidson reported sharp declines in profit. Capital One Financial posted a quarterly loss.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down about 104 points to the 8,018 level. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is off about 5 to 823. But the Nasdaq composite has turned higher, rising 3 to about 1,468.

AP, Reuters, AFP Refuse to Distribute Obama White House Photo

    Thursday, January 22, 2009 12:30 AM

    Article Font Size

NEW YORK — Three news agencies refused to distribute White House-provided photos of President Barack Obama in the Oval Office on Wednesday, arguing that access should have been provided to news photographers.

The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse said the White House was breaking with long-standing tradition in not allowing news photographers to capture the president at work in the Oval Office on his first day.

“We are not distributing what are, in effect, visual press releases,” said Michael Oreskes, managing editor for U.S. news at the AP.

The news agencies have used White House-provided images in the past for areas in the White House where media access is generally not permitted, such as the Situation Room or the private residence. But they contend that the Oval Office is the public office of the president and photographers should have access rather than rely on a government handout.

“Using these photos would be a major break with established precedent and would compromise the long-held tradition of independent photo coverage of the president and the White House by the major news agencies,” said Courtney Dolan, spokeswoman for Thomson Reuters.

There was no immediate reply to e-mail and phone messages left with Obama representatives.

The White House later released a photograph of the president retaking the oath of office with Chief Justice John Roberts, which the AP also rejected.

Vincent Amaluy, director of photography for North and South America for AFP, said he suspected first-day confusion was more at play than an attempt to clamp down on access.

“We are hopeful of negotiating an amicable solution,” Oreskes said.

  19. Admin: more and more people are starting to understand what big media is all about. We used to think it was about creating an informed public and selling newspapers.

Today however it has become clear that is not the game at all for AP and the DC press corps. Rather the real game is POWER–the power to set the rules of the game, to bend public officials to their will and to control the debate–opinion molders is what they aspire to be.

They are an empire in decline however because no one can govern effectively under these constraints. They are not an elected body. And, they have abandoned any quest for the truth in favor of being shills and propandists for the global interests who control them.

In sum, they are not worth listening to.

  20. We have generally ignored attacks on Big Pink by PINOs or Big Media. We’ll make an exception today. Lot’s of Kooks and Hopium dens are really upset that Caroline Kennedy will have a lot of spare time. They don’t like that Gillibrand, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter will replace the irreplaceable Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate.

They are not happy that Hillary Supporters killed their Hopium buzz.

BTW, Gillibrand voted “NO” on the bailout/looting bill in December. We hope she votes against that crime lord stimulus/looting bill that B.O. and Pelosi want so badly.

  21. She who SHOULD BE PRESIDENT SAYS…..
-…if it weren’t hard, somebody else could do it!
-she will seek: advice, counsel, experience, experitise, collaboration, and will be partners
-it is well to debate and dialogue to make us better
-…can not be best if we do not demand your best effort
-…send clear and unequivocal message – WE ARE A TEAM!
    -…time of potential and possibility
    -…let’s get to work!!!!!

And then the Huckster addresses the same audience and says something like………….
I brought you a gift, Hillary Clinton!!!!!

    Amen! And outstanding job, Admin.

  22. Looks like Kirsten Gillibrand takes no shit and will light a fire under some peoples asses in congress. She’s going to kick ass.

Hillary’s got an ear she can trust in the Senate.

  23. BTW, we never published Part II of our New York Story ( http://www.hillaryis44.org/?p=830 ) due to other events overtaking us. We still might publish Part II. But the thrust of Part II, which we mentioned in Part I is that

“Reason 2: Senator Chuck Schumer is A, if not THE, secret hand against the Caroline power grab.”

It is a very interesting story still, so maybe we will publish it.

    ———–

Gillibrand is praising Hillary at the press conference announcing the Senate appointment. Former Senator Al D’Amato is standing next to Gillibrand as is current Democratic Senator Chuck Scheumer.

  24. I should have also mentioned unelected governors without portfolio.

Here’s Drowned Rat–the editor of the AP on the subject; “We are hopeful of negotiating an amicable solution,” Oreskes said.

Those are the words of someone who aspires to the role of a power broker demanding a seat at the table to pursue his own agenda–not ours.

They represent themselves as being a reliable source of “impartial news” around the world which is patently false. The truth is they suppress, distort and mangle the truth to their own ends. They are nothing like the small town newspaper of a bygone era- and more’s the pity for that.

  25. I can’t wait, Gillibrand votes with concience she does not vote in lockstep with Pelosi and her stormtroopers. I like her already.

  26. Maybe someone should tell Al that we don’t just let ANYONE jump in bed with us. 😉

Speaking strictly for me, I’d kick his ass to the curb.

  27. Heres a good one. Obama ordered the unsealing of the Presidential Papers.

  30. Well, I am listening to Kirsten Gillibrand, live, and CK should be ashamed she had the nerve to try for the NY senate state.

Gillibrand is impressive. Not only does she have a firm grasp of NYS issues, she has the grace and dignity to thank those who preceded her, especially HRC.

She says HRC’s footsteps are huge and it is an honor to try and follow her.

  31. gillibrand is the obvious HRC pick. how she pulled that off, i’ll never know. all i can say is “WOW”…no wonder the bots are pissing their pants!

  32. Well, the past two days have been good. Madame Secretary’s warm welcome at the state dept, CK withdrawing, and the pick of Gillibrand to replace Clinton.

  33. Midnight and CK did the state of NY and the country a great favor. She declined a seat in the US Senate that she never would have gotten in any case. The new senator K.Gillibrand has poise and guts and needs very few notes and of course no teleprompter
to make a speech. Will never be another Hillary but will be very close. With Hillary working hard and on the world stage and Kirsten in the senate I will be right back to my favorite place,Hillaryis44 and blogging for 45.

    By ABM90.. What Inauguration?????

  34. Its so obvious no one and i mean no one wanted to work with CK, not the Gov, not Hillary, not Schumer. I think Hillary basically told Paterson to not even dare give her that seat.

    Revenge is better than Christmas

  35. In the words of BO’s good buddy, “the chickens have come home to roost”….for all the back stabbers, Clinton haters, and Obama Kool -Aid drinkers.

PS-I almost vomitted watching Clinton hater extroadinaire Maureen Douwd on Larry Ling Live…..has anyone ever seen her and Ariann Huffington in the same room?

  36. File this one under supposition and conjecture regarding Pattersons motives.

I believe that from the beginning Patterson intended to corronate Caroline, and was promised a big media splash to give him cover. I think he was motivated by a desire to ingratiate himself to the Kennedy and Chicago Machines.

I believe Patterson over estimated Kennedys appeal, over estimated the efficcay of her publicity machine and underestimated the reaction of the public and the New York political establishment outside Manhattan.

I realize he threw out the word competence in the beginning, but to the best of my recollection he never really defined what it meant. And because he took every other position along the way it is hard to attribute dispositive weight to that single statement.

I believe that toward the end, as her listening tour bombed, as her approval numbers tanked, and she refused to disclose financials and complete questionaires he still looked for cover to go ahead and do it. He sought it but did not receive it from prominent state officials.

As a result he was on his own–and in a real quandry as Hillarys confirmation date approached. Thus, privately he gladly welcomed her withdrawas since it took what had become an intolerable political burden off his back.

However, that is just speculation. I have no inside information.

  37. As a resident of Western New York I think both Patterson AND Princess Caroline are a joke.

She was NOT a viable candidate for this job and his handling of it, or should I say mis-handling, shows how incompetent he is.

Look for Andrew Cuomo to be our next Governor.

  38. If any of the reports we have heard are true, and the govenor gave her 24 hours to think about her tenative decision to withdraw and then she went ahead and withdrew without infoming him then that is not merely a breach of protocol, it is what someone does when they are in a state of panic. The panic was caused by the imminent disclosure of marital problems, tax problems and nanny problems. So it was Mrs Otis Regrets shes unable to serve today–or ever most likely.

  40. Did anybody see the Gilibrand senate appt announcement. She was in the middle of her speech when Oboob called and the governor whispered in her ears and she said “right now?” and he said yes, but she said “could I finish?” and since she still had much to say and took her own time to finish, by which time it was more than 5 minutes, say 10 minutes. When Paterson came back to the mike he joked that hopefully 0bama had something else to do (while waiting for Gilibrand to finish). She blew 0bama off!! Anyway he called back later when Schumer was talking and she did take the call then (but Schumer continued on, so nobody heard what 0bama had to say to her.) LOL….

But if you subscibe to my theory–and that is all it is, then he would have appointed her with cover from someone perhaps even Obama as a last resort as a final tribute to Ted, but she realized it would not be well received and the personal problems noted above would be vetted in the tabloids and that would besmirch to unadulterated family name. 48. LadyJane, congratulations to you Western/Upstate New Yorkers for helping stop the Caroline Kennedy appointment which led to a more geographically diverse Democratic state delegation.

  49. Admin — you get a cookie! It was indeed Grover who had two distinct terms.

It was Obama who said in his inaugural, “44 Americans [have become President]” which was a shameful, sloppy, misstatement.

I am still going for Hillary to be 44. And the sooner the better.

  50. PM317, we missed that. Hopefully there is a video of that so we can view it and laugh. If Gillibrand did that she just shot way up in our “like-o-meter”. If Gillibrand had dusted off her shoulder when dismissing B.O. we would now be in sorta puppy love.

Thanks. That’s great news. If the DailyKooks find out, they will scream.

  51. I watched it live on Cspan. So they may put it up on their site later. I at first thought Paterson told her to wrap up her speech but when he joked later, we know what happened. The whole event was long and painful and haphazard but I was watching it while on my dreadmill.

  52. freckles, AmericanThinker blog had a post about the 44 vs. 43. Oboob does not know numbers nor does he seem to know US history (and his 20+ year-old speechwriter is no help in that regard). So it is very natural for him to make that mistake.

  53. Thanks for the cookie Freckles.

More fun – Hillary on Gillibrand:

“Today I congratulate Kirsten Gillibrand on her appointment by Governor Paterson to serve as Senator from New York. Kristen is an intelligent and dedicated public servant and a dear friend. I’m pleased that this seat, which has been my great honor to hold, and which has in its history been held by leaders like former Senators Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Robert F. Kennedy, will be in such capable hands. And I look forward to working with Senator Gillibrand as we meet the challenges and seize the opportunities facing New York, our nation and the world.”

This sounds like a bit of a dig: “I’m pleased that this seat…..will be in such capable hands.”

Gillibrand and Shaheen (who voted against the 2nd $350 Billion release) might form an opposition to B.O. in the U.S. Senate. Hillary must be very happy with both her friends being in the U.S. Senate.

    Impeachment trial ‘unfair’: Guv
    Jan. 23, 2009

(AP) — Impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich said he’s not being defiant in boycotting his Senate impeachment trial next week, but that it’s because the process is unfair.

At a news conference Friday, Blagojevich said under the Senate rules his constitutional rights were being trampled because he cannot call all the witnesses that he wants.

The two-term governor faces a Senate impeachment trial starting Monday that will determine if he will keep his job. The Senate rules bar testimony from anyone federal prosecutors say would jeopardize the criminal corruption trial against Blagojevich.

Blagojevich is accused of, among other things, scheming to benefit from his power to name President Barack Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate.

    He has denied any wrongdoing.

Blagojevich also said at the press conference that fellow Democrats want him out of office so they can raise income taxes.

He also called upon the state’s newspaper editorial boards to urge the state Senate to change the rules of his impeachment trial.

Blagojevich said he’s “mostly” done the right thing for the people of Illinois and he called on newspapers to “get involved.”

Blagojevich wants the trial’s rules changed so that he can call any witness he’d like. Senators, however, have said they won’t allow any testimony that might interfere with the criminal investigation against the governor.

Blagojevich specifically mentioned Chicago’s two largest newspapers, the Tribune and the Sun-Times.

Federal authorities have accused Blagojevich of pressuring the Chicago Tribune to fire editorial writers who had been critical of him.

    Coleman: Send Inspectors to Precincts

    Thursday, January 22, 2009 3:54 PM

    Article Font Size

ST. PAUL, Minn. Shortly before the trial in his Senate recount lawsuit is supposed to start, Republican Norm Coleman on Thursday asked the three judges to order inspectors into 86 Minnesota precincts where his lawyers believe there were irregularities in the vote count.

Coleman is suing over a recount that ended with Democrat Al Franken up by 225 votes. Coleman’s lawsuit alleges that it’s an artificial lead based upon double-counting of some ballots, and other inconsistencies in some precincts.

The inspectors would “go to those precincts where there are still questions and try to settle them,” said Ben Ginsberg, one of Coleman’s attorneys. One inspector would represent Coleman, one Franken and one would be neutral. Unsettled disputes would presumably be forwarded for consideration in the election trial, due to start Monday.

Coleman’s attorneys said if the judges rule on the motion by the end of the day Thursday, there would be time for the inspections to occur before Monday. Ginsberg said as many as several hundred votes could be at stake, and said they might not all benefit Coleman.

Franken’s attorney, Marc Elias, argued it would be difficult to accomplish what Coleman wants before the trial starts. Even if it could, Elias said, state law doesn’t allow for the process Coleman proposed. He said Coleman’s proposal amounts to an end run around the state Canvassing Board and the process it set for determining whether or not votes were legally cast.

“How can it be that we’re going to count these precincts under a new rule when we already counted 4,000 precincts under a different standard?” Elias asked.

Coleman’s hopes for overtaking Franken also rest on his request to count several thousand rejected absentee ballots. Coleman’s lawyers asked the judges on Thursday to order Minnesota counties to ship about 12,000 rejected absentee ballots to the court, so that they could be quickly accessible once the court decides whether they should be counted.

The judges indicated they could rule on the two motions later on Thursday. They are also considering a motion by Franken, argued a day earlier, to dismiss Coleman’s case altogether.

Franken has asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to order that he get an election certificate before the resolution of the trial. On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Democrats would try to seat Franken but didn’t say when, and on Thursday his spokesman said Senate Democrats may not make any such move for a few weeks.

As Coleman awaits resolution of the trial, he landed a new job. The Republican Jewish Coalition announced that he had agreed to join the group as a consultant and strategic adviser. Executive director Matt Brooks said Coleman would advise the 40,000-member group on policy, help with recruiting and deliver speeches around the country. Brooks said he wouldn’t lobby for them. He declined to say how much Coleman would be paid.

Coleman expects his work with the group to be temporary and is still confident of prevailing in the election lawsuit, his spokesman Mark Drake said.

Top Democratic Consultant Named as ‘Adviser B’ on Blagojevich tapes
Prominent Washington consultant Frederick Yang was secretly recorded by the FBI in the corruption sting that netted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

    AP

    Thursday, January 22, 2009

CHICAGO — A partner in a prominent, Washington-based political consulting firm is among those secretly recorded discussing ways Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich can cash in on President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.

Frederick S. Yang, a top executive at Peter D. Hart Research Group Associates, is identified by prosecutors in the Blagojevich criminal complaint as “Adviser B,” Michael D. Ettinger, a lawyer representing the governor’s brother, said Thursday. Robert Blagojevich, who has not been charged with a crime, runs his brother’s campaign fund.

The Hart firm has represented dozens of Democratic governors and members of Congress. The revelation that a key executive at the company was captured on FBI wiretaps working with the governor could embroil one of the nation’s most respected and influential polling and consulting groups in the Blagojevich scandal.

Blagojevich is accused of using his elected office to exchange official actions for favors, including offering Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder.

The intercepted discussions between Yang, who has not been charged, and the governor involved ways to secure Blagojevich a high-paying union job or persuade Obama to name him secretary of Health and Human Services in exchange for Valerie Jarrett’s appointment to succeed Obama in the Senate.

The Associated Press first contacted Yang in mid-December to request comment and confirm his role in the conversations cited in the complaint against Blagojevich. But he declined on multiple occasions.

“I can’t talk,” he said Dec. 13 when approached outside his Bethesda, Md., home and shown a copy of the complaint, which makes 16 references to “Adviser B” in five telephone conversations with Blagojevich.

Blagojevich, charged with two counts tied to fraud and bribery, has long been a client of Peter D. Hart Research and its political division, Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group. Partner Geoff Garin served as chief strategist for Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful presidential run. Hart and Garin also have declined repeated requests for comment from the AP since mid-December.

In a Nov. 7 recorded conversation characterized by prosecutors, Yang told Blagojevich he “should leverage the President-elect’s desire to have ‘Senate Candidate 1’ (Jarrett) appointed to the Senate seat in order to get a head position” with a union organization called Change to Win.

Ettinger and other defense lawyers believe they can show Blagojevich’s actions, and those working with him, were not criminal, just part of ordinary horse-trading in politics. Ettinger said prosecutors have many secretly recorded tapes that could shed more light on the Blagojevich’s actions, including as many as 50 taped conversations with his brother.

Yang’s discussions with Blagojevich, as characterized by prosecutors in the 76-page criminal complaint against the governor, are not proof of a crime, Ettinger said. The governor is caught on tape using profanity and expressing frustrations, but without more details it’s impossible to know what, if any, crime was committed, he said.

“What is beating your chest and what did you really do?” Ettinger said.

Obama released a report late last month stating no one on his staff discussed favors with Blagojevich, or had any idea he was seeking favors for the Senate appointment, which has since gone to longtime Illinois politician Roland Burris. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel spoke to Blagojevich and others about the Senate seat, but said in a television interview this week he never got the impression that Blagojevich wanted anything improper in return.

Between 2001 and 2006, Blagojevich’s campaign paid Peter D. Hart Research $1.3 million, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.

All “Adviser B” references are contained in the complaint’s final section, which focuses on evidence that Blagojevich conspired with his chief of staff, John Harris, “and others,” to sell off Obama’s Senate seat. Harris, charged with the governor, has discussed a cooperation agreement with prosecutors, but has not yet decided to serve as a government witnesss, his lawyer, James Sotos, said last week.

During the first call cited in the Blagojevich complaint that included Yang, on Nov. 7, the governor told Harris and Yang, “I want to make money.” He said he’d take a cabinet post or the Change to Win job in return for Jarrett’s appointment.

Yang also participated in a Nov. 12 call where the formation of nonprofit organization was discussed, with the hope that Blagojevich could hold a high-paying position. Yang suggested the union job would lead to less questions and scrutiny for Obama, the complaint states.

“Adviser B stated that he likes the … idea, but liked the Change to Win option better because, according to Adviser B, from the President-elect’s perspective, there would be fewer ‘fingerprints’ on the President-elect’s involvement with Change to Win,” the complaint says.

Yang noted that Change to Win already has a revenue stream, meaning Blagojevich “won’t have stories in four years that they bought you off.”

Garin-Hart-Yang represents 12 senators, 18 House members and six governors, while Hart Research conducts public opinion polling for a number of major media organizations, according to the firm’s Web site.

The union organization that figures in the complaint, Change to Win, is a 6 million-member coalition of unions that was started in 2005. Its members include the Service Employees International Union, the Teamsters and the United Farm Workers of America. Tom Balanoff, an official at SEIU’s Local 1 in Chicago, has been identified as the SEIU official mentioned several times in the Blagojevich complaint, including being identified as “an emissary” for the appointment of Jarrett.

SEIU is listed as a client of Peter D. Hart Research, which has conducted surveys for Change to Win, according to a union news release.

Mrs. Smith: you mean two wings of the same bird. Like Lou Dobbs says.

I blame Felix Rohatyn for this as much as anyone. He is an investment banker, scion of Middlebury College, and the guy who saved New York from bankruptcy. He is Teddy Kennedys executor.

Rohatyn is argued forcefully and successfully that the Democratic Party must move away from Roosevelt policies and toward Markets and become a partner with Wall Street like the Republicans did.

The result is what you see today. I have never heard Obama compare himself to Roosevelt even once–maybe you have. He talks about Kennedy and even Reagan but never Roosevelt.

All other things being equal that would be strange because the economic calamity we face is more akin to Roosevelt’s time.It is the same with idiot Pelosi–who is very close to Rohatynas well.

The truth is Wall Street has never forgiven Roosevelt and neither has Rohatyn. Someone suggested a return to Roosevelt values to deal with the current problem and Rohatyn went ballistic–so I am told.

Hillary advocated a program which was akin to Roosevelt and geared to saving the middle class. Obama talked about markets and proclaimed himself a free trader. The Goolsbee incident with the Canadian govt. tells you all you need to know about that.

But ironically, Obama will be dragged there by the force of events, screaming all the while this is not Roosevelt policies. Those with any sense of history will see it for what it is.

The one thing Roosevelt did not do however and Obama will which is a mistake is to slash personal taxes and increasing small business tactics. That is more likely to cause a depression than prevent one in my unschooled opinion.

    Blago’s criminal lawyer to resign
    Jan. 23, 2009

(AP) — Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s lead attorney says he plans to resign from his criminal case.
Genson’s decision Friday comes one day after Blagojevich’s defense team sent mixed signals over whether the governor would file a lawsuit to block his impeachment trial in the state Senate.

Defense attorney Samuel E. Adam told The Associated Press Thursday that a lawsuit could be filed with the Illinois Supreme Court within days, pending a final decision. But Genson told the Chicago Tribune no lawsuit would be filed.

Genson is one of Chicago’s best known lawyers whose clients include rock star R. Kelly and Canadian-born press lord Conrad Black.

He said after Blagojevich’s impeachment in the House that the Senate trial’s outcome is a “foregone conclusion.”

Racism exists in all races and it can be used against anyone. When I hear it used that way I say false claims of racism are the last bastion of scoundrels like clyburn, jesse jackson 3, and I regret to say govenor wilder.

So what we end up with in the end is a Hobbian War of all against all and if everyone is a racist then no one is a racist. We wear the gold off the term.

If his presidency turns out well that is one thing. But if it turns out badly and he plays the race card then that form of blackmail will no longer resonate.

People who studied history in the aftermath of the civil war see certain parallels here.

  88. Richardson played the race card against mccain when he said that blacks and browns should make common cause against the white establishment. Dean played the race card when he called Republicans the white peoples party. The black chairman of the North Carolina democatic party urged black voters to reject all white candidates regardless of platform. The Republican Senator from Virginia used the world Macca to describe an Asian supporter of his opponent. The Obama campaign including Clyburn and Brazille used it as a weapon according to Professor Wiltentz which has made it impossible for some to ever support Obama.

This is the negation of the vision of Doctor King. By mid century whites will no longer be a majority in this country compared to the totalitality of races. What happens then?

I have thought about that in the context of the California Prison system which I had reason to study in the context of a project once. The patterns of racial collaboration were interesting. At that time the main gangs were Hispanic, Black and White in that order, whereas today Asian would be a statistically significant group as well.

What we found in that context was the white gang and the predominant Mexican gang (the southern gang aka the Mexican Mafia) sided against the blacks and the blacks allied themselves with a smaller Mexican gang (the northern gang aka Nuestra Familia). Those same patterns were manifest in their street gang affiliates. Within the black gang there was fierce competition on the street (Crips vs. Bloods) but an uneasy alliance behind bars.

What factors would cause the white and historic gangs to form alliances? Partly it is a matter of competition–the theory of ethnic succession, partly other cultural factors. It is interesting but hardly determinative of what will happen if we reject the inclusive vision of King. At a minimum, it repudiates Richardsons lie.

Blagojevich: I’m the victim of plot to raise taxes
By CHRISTOPHER WILLS and DEANNA BELLANDI, Associated Press Writers Christopher Wills And Deanna Bellandi, Associated Press Writers
    16 mins ago

CHICAGO – Launching an all-out media blitz as his impeachment trial draws near, Gov. Rod Blagojevich compared himself Friday to an honest, hardworking cowboy about to be lynched by a band of black-hatted political insiders eager to raise taxes.

After keeping mostly out of the public eye since his arrest on federal corruption charges, Blagojevich is reversing course with a series of interviews and public statements portraying himself as the victim of vengeful lawmakers eager to toss him out of office.

“The heart and soul of this has been a struggle of me against the system,” Blagojevich said at a news conference Friday.

Blagojevich denied any wrongdoing but wouldn’t discuss the federal corruption charges filed against him last month. Instead, he focused on his efforts to expand government health care programs without raising taxes.

He has chosen not to mount any defense in the Senate impeachment trial that begins Monday and could remove him from office within days. He may ask the Illinois Supreme Court to block the trial, arguing its rules are hopelessly biased against him.

Blagojevich, a fan of Western movies, drew a long analogy Friday between his situation and that of a cowboy accused of stealing a horse. His story ended with one cowboy suggesting the accused thief be hanged, with the other suggesting he first be tried, then hanged.

“Under these rules, I’m not even getting a fair trial; they’re just hanging me. And when they hang me under these rules that prevent due process, they’re hanging the 12 million people of Illinois who twice have elected a governor,” he said.

The Democratic governor told The Associated Press on Thursday night that he’s willing to sacrifice himself for principle by standing up to lawmakers he believes are violating the Illinois Constitution. “The fight will continue,” he said.

Yet Blagojevich’s main fight right now is a public relations battle, such as calling Friday for Illinois newspapers to publish editorials demanding the Senate change its trial rules.

It’s not clear what, if anything, Blagojevich hopes to gain from his strategy of boycotting the impeachment trial and defending himself through the media.

Several legal experts said they could see some benefit to participating in the trial or resigning office. But refusing to do either makes little sense, they said.

“There’s no benefit at all, except to make himself look ridiculous. In addition, anything he says can be used against him later” in court,” said Leonard Cavise, a law professor at DePaul University.

The FBI arrested Blagojevich on a variety of corruption charges, including the allegation he schemed to benefit from his power to name President Barack Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate.

His arrest triggered impeachment proceedings, and the House voted almost unanimously to send his case to the Senate for trial. A Senate conviction would remove him from office but have no impact on the continuing criminal case.

The only way Blagojevich can stay in office is to find 20 of the Senate’s 59 members willing to vote for his acquittal. It’s possible he hopes defending himself in interviews will inspire the public to pressure senators to support him.

Or Blagojevich may hope to build sympathy among potential jurors in some future criminal trial.

But there’s little evidence of goodwill left among the public.

Shortly after his arrest, an independent poll found his job-approval rating had dwindled to just 8 percent. More recently, a poll for the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform found that nearly 8 out of 10 Illinois residents believe the state is on the wrong track.

The combative approach is a return to a favorite Blagojevich tactic.

Since taking office six years ago, he has often portrayed himself as a lone champion of the people, outnumbered by uncaring lawmakers, a lazy bureaucracy and slick lobbyists.

“I took that system on. I challenged that system,” he said Friday. “That’s what this is all about.”

The governor twisted facts or exaggerated to support his version of events.

He has repeatedly said he wouldn’t be allowed to call witnesses in the Senate trial, but that’s not correct. Trial rules prohibit witnesses that federal prosecutors feel would interfere with their criminal case, but Blagojevich could have called other people.

He has specifically mentioned wanting to call governors and senators to testify about all the good he’s done. Nothing in Senate rules would have barred those witnesses. Blagojevich never asked to have them testify.

    Link to follow.

Obama’s Nonbeliever Nod Unsettles SomeBy MELINDA HENNENBERGER, AOL
posted: 1 HOUR 44 MINUTES AGOcomments: 1511filed under: Political News, Inauguration, The Obama PresidencyPrintShareText SizeAAA(Jan. 23) – Not everyone was happy with President Barack Obama’s nod to nonbelievers and non-Christians in his inaugural address. And some of the stiff criticism about Obama’s religious inclusiveness is coming from African-American Christians who maintain that no, all faiths were actually not created equal.
“For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness,” the new president said. “We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth,” he also said. Nothing too controversial, proclaiming that America’s strength lies in its diversity.
But between those two statements, the new president got specific: “We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers.”
Inauguration Remark Draws FireTim Sloan, AFP / Getty Images4 photos In his inaugural address, President Barack Obama celebrated America as a “nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and nonbelievers.” Some Christians are taking issue with the approach to inclusiveness, saying the president misrepresented America’s culture and heritage.(Note: Please disable your pop-up blocker)

By mentioning, for the first time in an inaugural address, the 16.1 percent of Americans who check “no”’ when asked about religion, Obama turned it into the most controversial line in his speech — praised by The New York Times editorial board and cited by some Christians as evidence that he is a heretic, and in his well-spoken way, a serious threat.
With that one line, the president “seems to be trying to redefine American culture, which is distinctively Christian,” said’ Bishop E.W. Jackson of the Exodus Faith Ministries in Chesapeake, Va. “The overwhelming majority of Americans identify as Christians, and what disturbs me is that he seems to be trying to redefine who we are.’”
Earlier this week, Jackson was a guest on the popular conservative Christian radio show ‘Janet Parshall’s America,’ where a succession of callers, many of whom identified themselves as African-American, said they shared the concern, and were perplexed and put off by the president’s shout-out to nonbelievers.
Watch Controversial Line (at 1:39)Barack Obama has become the nation’s 44th president. Watch the fourth part of President Obama’s inaugural address. (Jan. 20)
Parshall noted that atheists were celebrating the unexpected mention, and indeed they were: “In his inaugural address … President Barack Obama did what many before him should have done, rightly citing the great diversity of America as part of the nation’s great strength, and including ‘nonbelievers’’ in that mix,’” said Ed Buckner of American Atheists.
“His mother would have been proud,”’ Buckner said, referring to the fact that Obama’s mother was not a church-goer. “And so are we.”
Jackson said he and others have no problem acknowledging that “this country is one in which everybody has the freedom to think what they want.’” Yet Obama crossed the line, in his view, in suggesting that all faiths (and none) were different roads to the same destination: “He made similar remarks in the campaign, and said, ‘We are no longer a Christian nation, if we ever were. We are a Jewish, Hindu and non-believing nation.'”
Not so, Jackson says: “Obviously, Jewish heritage is very much a part of Christianity; the Jewish Bible is part of our Bible. But Hindu, Muslim, and nonbelievers? I don’t think so. We are not a Muslim nation or a nonbelieving nation.”’
With all the focus on Obama as the first African-American president, the succession of black callers to Janet Parshall’s show was a reminder that the “community”’ is not a monolith, and that many socially conservative black Americans are at odds with Obama’s views, particularly on abortion and gay rights. Nor do they all define civil rights in the same way.
The Rev. Cecil Blye, pastor of More Grace Ministries Church in Louisville, Ky., said the president’s reference to nonbelievers also set off major alarm bells for him. “It’s important to understand the heritage of our country, and it’s a Judeo-Christian tradition,”’ period.

  113. We have a problem that dates back almost to our beginnings and every time we make strides, we fall back again.

    It’s Justice in America.

    Here’s how it goes:

The press and/or prosecutors and/or leaders pronounce someone as “bad”.

    “Bad” immediately becomes “guilty”.

The public is outraged and clamors for punishment.

Then follows the legal/extralegal procedure filled with prosecutorial misconduct and/or missing evidence or witnesses. A guilty verdict. Prosecutors are rewarded and promoted.

If exculpatory evidence later appears, prosecutors will fight it all the way, sometimes keeping people in jail for another decade if not forever. The Supreme Court has ruled that true innocence is not a defense (!) if too much time has elapsed. There is no statute of limitations on serious crime but there is for proving innocence.

So we have blacks convicted of anything they were accused of. (see or read To Kill A Mockingbird)

We had Communists or sympathizers jailed or fired with no proof. (see The Front)

We have had men executed for crimes that were concocted and after a trial that was a joke. (read Ninth Life by Machlin & Woodfield, one of the best books on this topic ever written)

We had a president ‘convicted’ of perjury without a trial and had his law license removed.

We now have a governor who has been proclaimed guilty and has two simultaneous prosecutions going in which he has no rights or ability to confront his accusers. Nobody cares because we ‘know’ he’s guilty. Rahm Emanuel has said he did nothing improper but he is not allowed to testify because it might interfere with the Fed prosecution.

We keep worrying that criminals get off due to technicalities…and that’s a worry. But not as big a worry that this perversion of justice goes on every day in our names and that one day, we may be termed ‘bad’ and declared guilty sans trial.

  124. This is WICKED funny! (IMHO)

A satirical look at CK’s failed senatorial bid from a domestic staff employee.

    iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2009/01/i-am-look-for-the-job

  125. I do have some emphathy for CK. Not because she should have gotten the Sen Seat. I think it is because of her situation with the family she is in, and being a women.

It is very difficult being a child of a President or a super star of some sorts. Very rarely can you live up. You could tell people were holding their breath about John, her brother, and his death was a terrible shock, as we saw it as the end of hopes and dreams to repeat Camelot. Caroline had shown no inclination, and being an introvert, and women nothing more was expected. Even thought most of us knew that this could not be repeated. We also knew that JFK was flawed, and many of his relatives were also.

Caroline might really have been the one. She passed the bar exams on the first try, where as it took John a second try. But she found someone, and really dropped out like many traditional women did.

Then came an environment creating a superstart, just like it did for her father. With her traditional life crumbling, and everyone stating his lack of expereince was just not relavent, she thought I need a change, and this is in my blood and name. But I need to start at the top.

However, what she did not understand is that she is a women, and she must be twice as qualified.

The media fix the bumbles of this man’s inaugural errors, and only fight with him to make sure they stay in play. Those sort of things did not and will not happen for her.

Join the ranks of regular women, Caroline, if you want to dance with Fred Astire, you have to do it in high heels, and backwards.

  126. Sorry, NMF, but I have zero sympathy for CK.

She wanted to jump to the front of the line without having paid her dues.

Those are the women who give others a bad name, depending on external factors like genetic good-fortune rather than on their merits.

It’s the gender equivalent of affirmative action. She wasn’t qualified. Period. She should have known and accepted that rather than trying to shove her cnadidacy down New Yorkers throats.

I, for one, am delighted she wasn’t successful.

  127. Can you imagine, what happen at the State Department and there was not one pillar, not one red cent spent on that affair. No one purchase a ticket, no one was made to come, they just came.

She is the real deal, and you don’t need any props.

As in the above passage Hillary is the real leader. It is so clear to us that it is amazing everyone does not see it. Or maybe they do but do not wish to admit it. But either way it will become obvious to more people over time as we confront future crisis. We are at past the flubbed coronation, the power grab by Kennedy etc.

Next month the stimulus package will command headlines. But questions will be raised about tradeoffs, fall back positions and will it work. The campaign is finally over. Let the governing process begin.

O finally will establish a record, and not be able to vote Present, or not show up. The real record of O will appear. Now if we could only see his real BC.

  129. Re CK.

I didn’t have sympathy for her ‘run’ but after she withdrew I think people should not have attacked her about possible scandals, nanny issues, etc.

The family project was for her and TK to both be in the Senate together. He collapsed on Tuesday and she withdrew on Wednesday. Why seek further reasons? Leave the family some peace in their grief.

Absolutely, positively right. When she withdraws to private life she has the same right as the rest of us to a modicum of privacy to deal with whatever problems she has. As Admin noted this whole thing was a case of poor judgment on her part. Also undue influence by her uncle.

I feel quite differently about Ted. I doubt there will be peace for him either side of the grave. And the tears people like Byrd shed on his behalf will not wash away a word of it. Since death comes to everyone there is no particular reason for the nation to mourn his, but they will.

  131. O finally will establish a record, and not be able to vote Present, or not show up. The real record of O will appear. Now if we could only see his real BC.
    ———————————-
NMF-and that is the catch 22. In the short glimpses I have seen of him since the corronation he seems somber. Leadership at that level is a lonely task and it takes immense character strength to be effective. A strong set of values like Hillary has is the best guarantee of sound consistent leadership. This will be one to watch–especially the hoopla you will hear when he announces the stimulus package. The problem is the cupboard is pretty bare after that. Also, you cannot know how nations like China may react to the downturn in the consumer market and to what degree if any they will curtail the purchase of our t bills, etc. It is an imponderable, especially if we waste the ammunition we have on the wrong targets.

  132. wbboei

I agree, what ever success he has if any will be a long time ago by the time re election comes around. If the eonomy is in the same shape or God Forbid, worse, he is in trouble. I have see those on the blog bring this up before, about there will be nothing left money wise after this bail out. Since this does not seem to be dropping to the people who are losing their jobs and homes, and there will be 4 years of slim to none, I wonder what the reaction will be also.

The California Gov, borrowed his way out of immediate financial trouble, but it is hitting the wall in CA. What will be formost in CAs minds, what he did immediately or now. I hear he is betting heavily on greening the state, at a tremendous cost. Many feel that right now that bet will fail, and we will be seeing people leaving CA in droves. With their current housing problem, many will leave suffering tremendous loses. CA is an important economy to the whole country. You have to worry about the possibility of it tanking. I have three relatives in CA, and one bought at the high of the real estate market, one purchase at least 16 years ago, and one rents. Right now the person renting looks like they are in the best situation to get out of the state. The one there for 16 years, will get out with the initial investment in the home with improvements made, but nothing else. The first one, has invested around $300K which is probably lost at this point as they have lost their job and cannot make the house payments. If they declare bankrupsey, they lose their equity. I will be watching CA closely, as what happens in the next year or so is very important not only to the state, but I think will affect the nation. Will the failure of the CA economy be view against only the Gov or the President also. How many electorial votes do they have?

  133. Respectfully I have to disagree with ck deserving privacy. She chose to jump on the bambi band wagon and whored out her family name. Had she not legitimized the puppets run he very well may have slunk into oblivion. She chose to play a role on the biggest stage and I think any and all criticism is appropriate>

  134. henry,

If CK accepted media negativity against the Clintons, perhaps it is her karma to receive the same treatment. But … what’s the Bible verse about woe to him by whom it comes?

  135. Turndown
I am not a christian so the religious analogy is lost upon me
but i have to say fu*k her. She decided to play a role in politics having no experience. Had she not lent her name to the rat prick bastard we might be saying once again Presient Clinton. her bit was done early on and she attributed the decision to her kids I saycut the wench to shreds she placed herself in the arena. Her rent is due>

  136. Funny thing
a few weeks ago I made the statement that ck got all the wrong genes
I was attacked for being small minded in addressing her looks
well went back up to a year and those who saw fit to make an issue of me belittling princess for her physical appearance all made negtive comments about others. So glass house?????

  137. Henry,

She endorsed, but it is the American Voter who allowed that to mean something. Why anyone would listen to that endorsement is beyond me. I feel the same about many other endorsements, especially those coming from the Hollywood, TV, and Sports area. They all are allowed their personel opinions and vote, but trying to influence others is something I don’t understand. But then again, why their endorsement would mean anything just blows my mind.

You’re very high-minded and under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. However, I’m not there yet. I still harbor so much anger and resentment towards those who derailed HRC’s presidential run. As far as I’m concerned, CK saw how HRC and Bill were accused of racism, sexism and endured all sorts of name-calling and did nothing. And, just to rub salt into the wound, she wanted HRC’s Senate seat.

No compassion for CK for me. I hope they go after her like rabid dogs.

  139. Filbertsf, also, as the article states, the nanny and tax issues and whatever else there is precludes B.O. from appointing Caroline to a job. To the people that blocked her appointment it was also a priority to deny her a future base from which to attack them.

  140. NewMexicoFan, there will be more on this in the two part article to be published tomorrow, but in reply to your comment about “Why anyone would listen to that endorsement is beyond me” – the answer is that Caroline emotionally blackmailed them. Caroline’s power (and her mother’s and brother’s power) came not only from money and position and contacts. The American public had an emotional attachment to Caroline, especially after the death of her brother and mother. Her mother had been ever so slightly tarnished by her marriage to Onassis but still forgiven and adored. The brother was so handsome and attractive in many ways whatever faults he had were also easily forgiven.

Caroline had that emotional hold over Americans but she did what her mother never did – she used her emotional power overtly not only to endorse a candidate which went against the wishes of her home state New York but also her family’s power base of Massachusetts – and to promote herself for political office. Caroline had a great deal of power, emotional power, which she now has squandered.

The image and emotional impact of little girl Caroline with pony Macaroni has been shattered.

  141. I’ve been meaning to post these stats but keep forgetting.

BHO was (s)elected with about 35% of the vote. Only 65% of Americans voted and he got a little more than half that.

(I can’t remember where I saw that info otherwise i would post the link.)

  142. Admin

I look forward to tomorrows article. I can remember living through that assasination, and it changed me. I did not think it was possible for a current leader to be killed like that in office. After that, of course we had others, and attempts on some. Regardless of how I feel about a leader, I don’t think one person or a small group has a right to change history.

  143. New Mexico: a friend of mine has a next door neighbor who is ceo of a small bank. They got 150 million out of the bailout. As I understand it the money was given to the banks so they could make loans and thereby increase liquidity throughout the economy. That is not what he is doing with it. He is using these taxpayer funds to purchase another distressed bank. Other banks are using the taxpayer bailouts for bonuses, dividends. It is wonderful to see the banks treating this as their personal piggy bank. What if anything does Peolosi lieutant plan to do about it? Punt?

  144. turndownobama,

While I am thrilled DP didn’t pick CK, or she withdrew her name, or whatever the heck happened, I don’t trust him as far as i can throw him.

This is a man who hastened HRC’s departure from the race, who said, before she suspended her campaign, that she was obstructing BHO, who later said in a summer speech that if BHO wasn’t (s)elected it would be proof of racism.

Of course I have no proof but I have a feeling he WAS gonna name CK but something happened. Whatever it was, he was furious . . . .and a lot of dems are furious at his picking Kirsten. Personally, i think she’s a great choice but there’s a whole boatload of sh!t going on between Cuomo, the Kennedy’s, the downstate dems, and lots of jockeying for position for 2010. I won’t be casting my vote for him 2 yeas from now.

  146. Re Paterson, some people are donating $20.10 toward his re-election campaign as a thank you
    ———————————————
Turndown: What are they thanking him for? For wanting to appoint Kennedy but not finding a way? For giving her 24 hours to decide whether she really wanted to withdraw? For not appointing Caroline after she withdrew? For dissing Hillary in the manner Basil describes above? For being a trembling tower of tapioca? What exactly did Patterson do to merit a contribution?

Better to put that money toward the national debt where it will do some good. I do not think he did anything but talk in riddles. I suppose if you like Gillibrand then he does get credit for selecting her. But he deserves no credit for not selection Kennedy in my opinion.

  147. I’m not getting into Paterson’s secret motives as revealed by anon sources. (His actual quotes were quite different.)

It’s a long time till 2010 and there are points on both sides.

Yes it’s people who like Gillibrand who want to reward him. Bill and HIllary like her and she likes them. She held out against Pelosi and kept supporting Hillary.

  148. Paterson, some people are donating $20.10 toward his re-election campaign as a thank you
    ———————————-
Then it was a thank you for appointing Gillibrand, as opposed to a thank you resisting pressure to appoint Caroline.

That I can understand. I think we can safely assume Hillary and Bill are happy for obvious reasons.

Furthermore, if they are contributing because he selected Gillibrand out of the entire field, then the reasons he did not select Kennedy are irrelevant.

Thanks for setting me straight on that turndown.

  149. wbboei,

Iirc the $20.10 donations to Paterson began with some people at thenewagenda.net They wanted Maloney or Gillibrand or possibly Weingarten (all qualified women). The people doing the donations did not want CK. I really don’t know how different donators broke it down. Me, I’d have liked the idea and donated on ‘anyone but CK, Cuomo ok, prefer M or G’. (Iirc Maloney strongly supported Hillary also.)

  150. Turndown: in my book the people who supported Hillary all the way through are the true patriots. The others are a threat to our liberty. I sent you an email.

  151. wbboei,

I assume the true patriots are Maloney and Gillibrand, and the threats to our liberty are somewhat higher up.

Actually the $20.10 donations can be seen as a publicity stunt — hardly enough to count in funding P’s campaign two years from now.

It’s a message to show that some women’s groups are serious about getting qualified women (eg M or G) into office, and that officials better watch out for us. A Puma thing, you know?

In keeping with the rest of this year’s fakery, it could be said that it doesn’t matter what Paterson’s real intentions and motives were, some of us want to give public encouragement to the APPEARANCE of doing the right thing. (And he DID appoint a very good choice; the fact declares, motives are speculative.)

  152. It’s a message to show that some women’s groups are serious about getting qualified women (eg M or G) into office, and that officials better watch out for us. A Puma thing, you know?
    ———————————-
That is a good message to send. A better one would be qualified women– who supported Hillary Clinton for President.

  153. wbboei,

Everything I’ve seen said that Maloney and Gillibrand did support Hillary, long and strong.

  154. I am thrilled with this website and have been a long time admirer this year. Thank you to the many brilliant and astute posts from the readers here…Congratulations!

  155. I always felt Ted was the primary VP pick for Obama, then Hillary as second choice as matter of formality. I think it was Hillary who suggested Biden for VP and SofS for herself during the negotiations leading to the Dem Convention but after it became clear that the Ted Kennedy was desperate to pass a significant piece of legislation like Universal Healthcare, more aptly named The Kennedy Healthcare Contract for America. A legacy that would perhaps temper the more more nefarious ones that persist.

  156. jw300delegates, thanks for the work you have done re convention delegates.

Welcome and thanks for the kind words.

  157. jw300delegates,

    You are right about wbboei.

We published a brand new sparkling article a short time ago regarding the Gillibrand situation. Let us know what you think. There is much more to come on this.

In the new article you might want to introduce yourself for those who do not know, and maybe at some point you could regale us with stories about the delegates.

  158. thanks, have started a series call Fair Reflections Absence on Alegre’s web, as well as a few other attempts to write 🙂
