Laughing At Barack Obama And His DailyKooks

We have two more months of Obama gaffes to come.

The Pompous Possum seal is gone. Obama’s own website calls a certain well-known terrorist Obama Bin Laden. Obama, busy selling himself as a Christian (forget Wright/Pfleger), does not want to be seen in public with Muslims like Congressman Ellison.

Obama’s dedicated internet dens of Hopium are experiencing what used to be known as “a bad trip”. The hallucinogenic Hopium has gone as bad as Obama’s promises to filibuster a FISA bill with telecom immunity included. The DailyKooks, Talking Pimps Memo, Arriana Huff n’ Puff (collectively, the PINO Big Blogs) are getting thrown under the bus by Obama. As Obama spanks them with every broken promise, they reflexively respond “Thank you sir – may I have another.”

Just think, we have two more months of Obama making fools of these fools and of himself.

* * *

Obama is not alone in making a fool of himself. Nancy Pelosi, of Dean/Obama/Brazille/Pelosi, is busy making a fool of herself and the DailyKooks crowd too. Nancy is pushing the FISA bill as a victory when anyone with any sense knows that the current FISA bill pushed by the Democratic Leadership is a big Republican victory. Here’s Nancy making a fool of herself regarding sexism and Hillary Clinton:

Lynn Sweet reports that Nancy Pelosi seemed loath to blame sexism for Clinton’s loss while speaking to reporters this morning — but also acknowledged its prevalance.

“Sen. Clinton has advanced the cause of women in government and her candidacy has been a very positive tonic for the country and had a very wholesome effect on the political process,” she said. “I really don’t know, I haven’t analyzed and the rest, I’m a victim of sexism myself all the time, but I just think it goes with the territory, I don’t sit around to say, ‘but for that.”

Pelosi, who has something of a strained relationship with some Clinton supporters and donors (and the Clintons themselves), also pointed to the elephant in the room. “I think her candidacy was a just a bright, bright moment for us and she may run again.”

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy – just listen to yourself. Nancy is now a fool among fools – little wonder Obama’s internet dens of Hopium love Nancy.

The Obama campaign is not content with having a fool for a candidate and foolish supporters like Nancy. Now they want to turn Hillary donors into fools.

In a PowerPoint presentation, the Obama campaign is selling the foolishness that women will actually vote for Obama if he were ever to become the Democratic nominee. In the same PowerPoint presentation the Obama campaign wants Hillary donors to rescue the fools at the Democratic? National Committee. Apparently, the Democratic? convention is short on cash and the DNC is short on cash too. The Republicans have a lot of money ($53.6 million) while Howard Dean and his 46 state strategy is running low on cash ($4.4 million).

A reader sends over a copy of a power point presentation made by David Plouffe last Thursday in Chicago, which appears aimed by its content at Clinton donors.

The presentation touts Obama’s strength with Clinton’s bases of female and Hispanic voters, saying he’s “poised to win [a] historic level of support” from women.

It does, however, sound one alarm: The RNC’s huge cash advantage over the DNC, something Obama’s aides would like Clinton backers to help remedy with large contributions to the party committee.

The influential activist Ricki Lieberman (rrlieberma@gmail.com) suggests otherwise (and offers other good advice) at the new Together4Us site:

Like me, if you want a Democrat in the White House in November, HOLD ON. We are on an ELECTABILITY WATCH. For those of us who cannot even imagine BO as the Democratic nominee and who believe that to nominate BO is to elect McCain, the answer is still Hillary.

HRC delegates – please hold on.

Funders – please, no $ to BO or the DNC, not one penny! Abstinence! [snip]

Together we will fight against the hostile takeover of our party by the Obama, Pelosi, Dean and Reid coup. 18,000,000 of us can do it if we stay together and do not fragment.

For those of you who want to vet McCain, please wait, at least until after August 28. There will be time for all of us to make individual decisions depending on the honor or dishonor of the Democratic convention.

Ricki makes a strong case for Hillary:

I want a Democrat in the White House. At the Convention, the sole job of the delegates will be to select the person who is electable in November.

That person is Hillary Clinton. During the primary process BO did not “close the deal” with primary voters. The more voters got to know BO, the more votes Senator Clinton received. By the time she suspended, not ended, her campaign, she led in the popular vote, in the blue states and swing states needed to win the Electoral College, and in the polls against McCain. She won convincingly wherever one person one vote was the principle of the voting process; she did not prevail in the caucuses – one of the least democratic voting methods imaginable – no secret ballot, limited access, no absentee ballots…

Senator Clinton has the best, most progressive stance on issues of importance to Democrats – truly universal, affordable health care; sensible mortgage relief to avoid the dissolution of our communities; universal pre-k and greater access to high education; energy independence; investments in infrastructure, urban regeneration, stem cell research and other scientific explorations… she has the connections to and the admiration of the world leaders and populations desperate for strong leadership from the United States…

We know Senator Clinton’s record, her ability to bring people together, her intelligence, humor, and that she is a caring person who has worked unceasingly for women, children and families. We know that she understands the issues and nuances of the middle east and has been a proven friend of Israel and other democratic allies.

We know so little of BO, other than he rose meteorically from the south side of Chicago politics, and gives a good speech.

We know that he stood by silently as the media and his own campaign degraded women and the candidacy of Senator Clinton. We know that he encouraged undemocratic practices such as snatching votes and delegates in Florida and Michigan. We know that his associates and friends are not those we would be comfortable bringing home to mother.

Clinton delegates – please hold tight. Do not give up your seat or believe anyone who tells you that Hillary has conceded or ended her campaign. She has suspended her campaign. At a minimum, we must be sure that the Democratic platform reflects her values and programs. We want her to be nominated, speak and to have a roll call.

If BO is the nominee of the party, we will have plenty of time to decide if he has earned the 18 million votes and support of Clinton campaign volunteers.

If he has failed to “close the deal”, we will be there to remind the delegates that their only job is to nominate the ELECTABLE candidate in order to restore the White House to the Democrats.

* * *

When HillaryIs44 first published back in April 2007 there were few Hillary support sites. Today support for Hillary on the Internet is much more visible. Many Hillary supporters have started websites this year and more are published every day. A new truly progressive Democratic network of websites is being born.

We note the Mission Statement of today’s brand sparkling new Together4Us website.

One year ago, the Democrats predicted a joyful march toward victory in November. For various reasons, and to different degrees, Democrats are not all in the same frame of mind today. Our changed outlook about this election is not thanks to sour grapes or hurt feelings. It’s about genuine concern for the party and its future. It’s about the attitudes and values of the party’s leaders and leadership. It’s about whether those leaders – including Barack Obama – will take seriously the 18 million voters who supported his opponent, and whether he and the party will demonstrate sincere, lasting commitment to real party unity – not just unity built on political convenience.

Much has been asked of Hillary Clinton since she suspended her campaign. Already she has forcefully pledged to work for Obama and the party and, based on her extraordinary track record of supporting democratic candidates over the past 15 years, no one can doubt her commitment to the party’s nominee or the party’s goals. [snip]

So far, Senator Obama and the party leadership only appear willing to pay lip service to Hillary’s supporters, the issues she championed, or her place in the party leadership. All we have heard is that we better fall in line fast, and with no questions asked.

But we are not willing to fall into line without first getting some answers.

So, we ask the following questions of Senator Obama and the Democratic Party:

How are you going to ensure that Hillary Clinton plays a prominent role in the future of the party and our country?

When will you address the issues of concern to Hillary Clinton’s supporters?

How will the party reform its undemocratic nominating process and ensure a system that is one person/one vote

How will the Democratic Party redress sexism, and all forms of discrimination?

These questions are being asked, but the Obama campaign and the Democratic Party are not answering. The utter silence is troubling to many of us – so troubling that we cannot, at this moment, promise to vote Democratic in the Fall. Barack Obama and the Democratic Party need to understand that multitudes of people from every walk of life and every part of the country are asking these questions. In order to prove our numbers, I ask you to log onto www.together4us.com and sign the attached Pledge of Togetherness. Together, we hope to get answers from the Obama campaign and the Party. And, together, we hope to find the best avenue to pursue in the 2008 election. There is no commitment to act together, but only to ask our questions together. We can make the Democratic ticket stronger by getting clear answers that could energize millions of voters. Would you please help us get our questions answered? It will take 30 seconds to read and sign at www.together4us.com. A signature from you would be particularly powerful.

A lot of organizing is getting done by Hillary supporters every day. Different people will arrive at different decisions. At Big Pink our nominee is Hillary. We will not vote for an unqualified candidate who waged a race-baiting, gay-bashing, woman-hating campaign.

For Hillary supporters at Big Pink it’s a People’s Campaign.

We will think and act like Rosa Parks. We won’t go to the back of the bus.

  2. Interesting that Pelosi says Hillary may run again. I hope she does, and next time nothing the DNC and media can do will stop her. Count on it!

  8. I just went to look at together4us.com and saw one big problem right off! Their petition seems to promote Hillary as VP! So I posted:

I will work DOUBLY hard against a ticket that includes Hillary as VP.

She has a great career of her own in the Senate, is in line for Majority Leader. As VP, she would have to follow Obama’s orders in everything. (Gore and Cheney were given their power from the Pres, Obama will not give her any; he would just make her do bad things or shut her away out of sight.)

Most important, if she is VP Obama might win, and then she’d be stuck with him. If Obama loses, then she can run herself in 2012!

I have made a petition AGAINST HIllary as VP; it and similar petitions are linked from
    http://www.pumaparty.com/hillarynovp

  10. Here is a pledge on the first page of h t t p : / / together4us.com/

To me this sounds like surrender! Give Hillary VP and say a few nice words and then we’ll fall right in!

We stand together with her 18 million voters in pursuit of all of the following:

    * Bringing us together by including Hillary Clinton on the ticket in November.
    * Bringing us together by adoption of policies on the Platform Committee that Hillary Clinton has championed.
    * Bringing us together through reform of the primary and caucus system to reflect the basic principle of one person/one vote.
    * Bringing us together through outspoken denunciation of all gender bias, racism and other forms of discrimination.

At this time, we are being asked to embrace Party Unity without the fair representation of Hillary Clinton – and her 18 million voters. We look forward to supporting the Party and the presumptive candidate as soon as they address the four critical actions for Party Unity presented above.

They sure aren’t speaking for THIS one of the 18 million!

For one thing, who the hell is going to DO this ‘reform’? Brazile? That would be letting the fox repair the henhouse. If Obama wins in Nov, that will increase the Brazile/Pelosi faction’s control of the Dem party, and they will change the rules in their own favor under guise of ‘reform’.

Almost the whole ‘pledge’ seems like an invitation for the DNC to go through some empty words and that will satisfy all us 18 million! That is not correct. Some of us will not support Obama in Nov no matter what words the DNC says.

(Quite a few supposedly anti-Obama sites are coming out with such wishywashy ‘mission statements’: pumapac.org, this womencounttoo pac that wants to run more ads….)

The one item in their pledge that calls for real action is imo negative, harmful action: making Hillary VP so she gives up her own career to iron Obama’s shirt!

  11. Djia, looks like John McCain will have questions too. Words matter. As Hillary said, Obama is change you can Xerox.

  12. Haven’t been around much lately cause I’m busy trying to move.

Hope everyoone stays firm in their resolve to NOBAMA. Never will I vote for him and I won’t be watching Hillary work her ass off for the party nor Bill.

I’ve learned enough in this campaign to do me the rest of my life .. I’d work again all over for Hillary .. without a second thought, but the heart ache has been hard. I’m just now starting to accept that she has accepted the stabs in the back, she’s forgiven the fools in the party but that doesn’t mean I have to.

I plan to remember come NOvember and I will remember those down ticket DEMOcrats as well. I hope my vote DEmotes many of them.

Hillary for President .. our country needs a real leader.

  13. On the DNC blog they have john and elizabeth asking for money for new incoming female senators! I guess they think thats what we want!

  14. I don’t think, Hillary should be Bo’s VP. It is beneath her, and I still wouldn’t vote for that ticket.

  15. This comment on noquarter today in “Hawaii vital records, question”

brings up a good point and a better question!

    Comment by tzada | 2008-06-24 14:26:34

In my opinion one of the reasons for this birth certificate duplicity is this. In Kenya Obama’s father was listed as an Arab African. All three of his names are Arabic. Obama is Swahili. The East coast of Africa was where the Arab slave traders settled. The resulting culture there became known as Swahili. If you study the roots of slavery, it was the Arabs that captured, white, Asians, and blacks.

If blacks knew that Barack is probably not a black, but an Arab, a decendant of slave traders. Would they still vote for a fraud? After 9/11 and knowing that the Muslim Brotherhood, which support Obama, vow to destroy America from within. Would the rest of Americans?

I can see why knowledge of Obamas roots may be what he is hiding.

Keep in mind what John Kerry said. To paraphrase his remarks. Barack Obama will be able to deal with the Arabs better. Then he seemed to realize what he said and fumbled around and said, as a black man he will. does that make sense to anyone but John Kerry?

  16. djia:

I tell BO supporters who are trying to convert me to tell BO to come to my house for a 2 hr face to face questioning. I will not disclose my questions before…I want him to answer my questions on the fly…not give him time to prepare!!!!!

  17. Can you believe Pelosi is now saying she is a victim of sexism….what a hypocrite and attention seeker….

  18. It’s demeaning confloyd. We don’t want/need more Nancy Pelosi types. Nor Claire McCaskill types.

The DNC thinks we are as foolish as they are. A Hillary Clinton is worth dozens or hundreds of Pelosi/McCaskill types. Accept no imitations.

It’s amazing how NOW they want to talk about sexism (while denying it mattered) and NOW they want to discuss issues of importance to women (of course no debates were ever scheduled on women’s issues during the primaries). They must think we are all fools.

  19. I’m not sure how I would vote now if Hillary were to accept the vp. I do know that my choice to REJECT Obama as the nominee has nothing to do with Hillary .. it’s all about how I feel about NOBAMA.

I do not know what is on Hill’s mind but I think were she to accept the vp nod .. she knows what the job description is and what she’d be getting in for. I will wait for her decision on whether she wants to be on the ticket before I will say I would no longer vote for the joint ticket. However, the decision then would solely based on her as part of the ticket .. in hopes that she sees a way to further her work for the
    American people.

The party has shit on her and I’ll never forget that. Hillary has such a forgiving heart and I have to say that she is being much more kind than I ever could be.

Hillary is still the best choice for the our country .. I’m starting to accept that we lost our best choice and am dealing as best I can.

I still can’t go to her website and I cry still. I watch the youtube “I’ll Wait For You” … my hope grows dim though for anything to happen prior to the convention. The elite are covering his ass so fast it makes my head swim

  20. I would not vote for any ticket that had BO on it……even if hillary was on it as VP

I do not want that “creature” any where near the WH! or Hillary to be tarnished by being tied to him.

  21. djia:

Obama’s ancestors in Kenya would have been one time slave traders!!!

    That is absolutely correct!

BTW: I was born in Kenya!!!

  22. MP

wow ….. do you still live in kenya??

I would love to be able to travel abroad someday……. waiting for the last 2 kids to grow up (8 more years) and go to college then i can think about such trips 🙂

  23. Dot

how’s the moving going for you?? are you excited??

I too am moving, been packing and organizing etc… but i have a small farm full of animals, tractors, vehicles and lots of
crap misc. items to move so its not a fun thing for me.

  24. Pelosi is worried her speakership may be in jeopary…hence the worry about sexism against her….

    Out you go NOMADAM speaker!!!

And take that racist #3 house member Clyburn with you…another affirmative action jobber taking home big earmarks for his family in SC!!

Point one: For some reason HIllary pledged to support Obama and has said that if asked she will have to accept the VP slot to try to get him elected though she doesn’t WANT to be VP. (See NY Mag interview as well as a statement weeks ago.)

Point two: The NY Mag article says that ‘privately’ Bill and HIllary were very ‘pessimistic’ about Obama winning this Nov. I think that was regardless of whether Hillary takes the VP or not. If this is true, then she might take it to fulfill her pledge but hoping that the ticket will in fact be defeated.

So imo it’s up to me/us, if we can’t talk her out of taking it (or talk BO out of offering it) — to make sure the ticket IS defeated in November! That will leave her a free agent again.

I just can’t see any way that giving up her Senate career and her own chances of running in 2012, would benefit her causes more than staying in the SEnate and running in 2012 (or helping some REAL Democrat run)! That’s just not possible.

  26. Clyburn played a huge role in the race baiting in SC and attacked Bill and Hillary in a very subtle but effective way.

Obama Throws Seal Under the Bus

The Obama campaign has ditched the Great Seal of Obama, but the McCain campaign has made copies and will bring them to all future town hall events. We hope that Senator Obama will feel more comfortable attending if we place the seal on his podium–that he will feel more presidential, and important, in the few months that remain before our just-for-the-sake-of-appearances national election, at which time he will be given the official Seal of the President to do with as he likes.

One thing I’m struck by in this whole episode. The kelly green backdrop behind McCain in New Orleans received a great deal of attention, especially in the New York Times. Frank Rich mentioned it in two separate columns (perhaps as a theater critic he can be excused for obsessing on staging rather than substance). Gail Collins hit it. Even Kristol took a shot. So shouldn’t Obama’s presidential prop garner at least one mention in the print edition of that paper? Or is the arrogance of a Democratic candidate not as newsworthy as the “color coordination” of a Republican?

  28. LARRY JOHNSON:

On Saturday, June 7, 2008, Hillary Clinton suspended her historic campaign for President. To her 18 million voters, it may have seemed like an end, but I pledge to make it a beginning … a beginning of a movement to achieve the democratic and just country that Hillary has envisioned for America.

I stand together with Hillary Clinton’s 18 million voters to demand that Senator Obama and the Democratic Party:

Bring us together by seating 100% of the Florida and Michigan delegations in Denver with 100% of their votes, allocated in accordance with the popular vote of each state.
Bring us together by adopting policies on the Platform Committee that Hillary Clinton has championed.
Bring us together through reform of the primary and caucus system to reflect the basic principle of one person/one vote.
Bring us together through outspoken denunciation of all gender bias, racism and other forms of discrimination.
Bring us together by fairly and respectfully including Hillary and her supporters at the Democratic National Convention in Denver by, among other things, placing her name in nomination for President, conducting a roll call vote, and providing her a prominent speaking role during prime time on August 26th, the 88th anniversary of women’s suffrage.
I own my vote. It does not belong to any party. It does not belong to any candidate. It does not belong to any mob that would impose its will on me. Only I can decide how to use my vote, and I can decide based on any criteria I choose. Therefore I pledge not to give my vote to anyone who does not earn it.

Click here to sign the pledge: iownmyvote.com/

  29. admin, I’ve been over there all day arguing. I think they are really that out of touch with us. One blogger told me that Hillary was giving BO everything, Healthcare policy, economy expert, and her 18 million voters! WOW, can you believe that. I told this person they are drinking way too much kool-aid and believe what the “ONE” is peddling.
It’s just awful, but I did get a few positive responses. Some on there are true Clinton supporters. Of coarse, there are those that just want me to shutup.

  30. i am disgusted to see pictures of hillary out campaigning for obama.
    just sickening really.

    this is like the outerlimits…

  31. Hahah, I knew that ludicrous “Seal of Obama” would come back to haunt him. It’s almost stunning how many bad campaign ideas keep emanating from Chicago. They have mountains of money, but no cohesive strategy, so anytime a problem pops up, they just throw money at it indiscriminately. That is a disastrous way to run a campaign.

Obama must have a huge war chest. Many of the sites I visit (political and non-political) are littered with Obama ads.
    &&&&&&

Money, ads, brainwashing, whatever, the guy still can’t win a big state or battleground state. He outspent HRC in PA, WV, KY, CA, MA, you name it. He’s good at pissing away tons of money for ads that don’t work.

The latest 18-state ad buy will do the HereWeGoAgain, Introducing….Barack Obama! Like all these voters haven’t already heard of him. He’ll still be doing warm-fuzzy biography ads through November, because that’s all he’s got: His Story. Gag me with a fork.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/20/us/politics/20oadbox.html

Couple of excerpts from above include:

ACCURACY Much of the advertisement deals with Mr. Obama’s biography, which has been well documented in the press and in his memoirs. Mr. Obama refers to three bills that passed during his time in the Illinois Senate and in the United States Senate, and he did have a hand in passing all three. But he did not actually vote on the third bill, the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed overwhelmingly in January.

SCORECARD This advertisement tries to define Mr. Obama and his life story in the face of smear e-mail and Internet innuendo about his heritage, questions about his patriotism and accusations about his liberal record. It emphasizes his devotion to work, both personally and in his record, highlighting legislation that shows his compassion for working-class Americans and veterans — and his toughness with welfare recipients. With its flag pin and statements on patriotism — the commercial is called “Country I Love” — it seeks to put to rest any doubts about his devotion to the United States. The advertisement addresses the problems Mr. Obama needs to address and tacks him back to the center. And while he is not served particularly well by the face-to-camera shots, he comes across as personable and approachable.

  33. The AOL Presidential vote. Last two weeks, it has started off high and then gone back to 12% win for McCain. Just checked it. It was at 22% and now it is at 24% I guess some people out there don’t like what has gone on the last few days. Poll restarts every Friday. Go and Vote.

  34. I was just emailed this survey to take by Independent Movement [contact@independentmovement.org]

on who they should endorse for president.

here is a link to the survey results so far it’s pretty interesting so far it will change as more take their survey

If you can find the time travel now. Time waits for no one. I have been all over Europe. I have been going there for sixteen years. I am still traveling. Some of my friends put off traveling now they are too sick to travel. Some did not live long enough to travel. So if you can try planning for the trip You will be glad you did.

And Clay Waters of NewsBusters poking fun at the NY Times for selling Obama as a (guffaw) centrist, yet Bosman of the Times paints McCain as having a “warmonger’s reputation”.

I still read the Times, mainly for the crossword now, and to yell at writers whom I used to enjoy reading (although Krugman’s still not drinking the Koolaid, and I agree with Brooks more often than in the past).

But in general, the Times has lost their compass just as much as the television media. I have to watch Fox to get Fair and Balanced News???!!! Yikes, it’s true. (McLaughlin is one of the few I still have respect for. Eleanor Clift, you disgust me now).

  38. That article concerning Hillary returning to the Senate. I am glad for her to receive such a great reception, however I just get this feeling that now that she has suspended the campaign, everyone is going out of their way to show support to appease Clinton supporters. (also seen in the sexism articles being written now)

NObama in NOvember no matter what.

  39. Let me get this straight…

if BHO is a liberal progressive…then liberal progressive means …
no past record of accomplishments, failure to vote, failure to keep your word, poor personal judgement, race baiting, homophobia, sexism etc. etc. etc.

and we are worried about the republicans??? Hey they are starting to look really good right now.

  40. ADMIN – thanks for the new site – signed, sealed and delivered and forwarded to friends…

    great work and info here…

  41. Consider this: if worst comes to worse, suppose BHO becomes the nominee in Denver, and suppose Hillary is the VP choice, then suppose the GOP begins unloading their garbage on him. Then suppose he plummets so far and so fast that it becomes obvious he will never be elected. While we are supposing this stuff, suppose the Democratic? Party talks him into dropping out. Fat chance, but wouldn’t there be a party caucus, and wouldn’t it promote Hillary from the VP spot to the top of the ticket? I know. The stuff from which dreams are made.

Okay, I’ll stop smoking whatever it is.

THIS DNC ‘party caucus’? I wouldn’t count on it. They’d probably bring in someone else just as bad.

Otoh, the danger of Hillary as VP putting him over to a WIN in Nov, which means she irons his shirt for four or eight years — seems rather more likely.

Obama Throws Seal Under the Bus

The Obama campaign has ditched the Great Seal of Obama, but the McCain campaign has made copies and will bring them to all future town hall events. We hope that Senator Obama will feel more comfortable attending if we place the seal on his podium–that he will feel more presidential, and important,

    =======================

    ROFL!

And if Obama doesn’t show up, they can put up a cardboard cutout on his podium. Or a cutout of that guy that played Obama on SNL.

  46. Interesting…I’m in Minnesota and just got an automated call on the Presidential election. I’ve never received this type of call before. There were only about 6 questions. They asked if I was a Democrat or Republican and if I were going to vote for McCain, Obama or neither. Then they asked about who was stronger for energy while keeping the economy growing and who would provide better leadership on Iraq. They also asked if television coverage made me more, less (or no impact) favorable of the candidate I said I was voting for.

I think this may have been a poll from a national organization. I picked McCain throughout and the question on TV coverage was only for him–if I would have picked Obama I would assume I would have been asked about his coverage.

Has anyone had a phone call like this? Curious…

  47. Obama Equates his Public Financing Lie to the Declaration of Independence

    purplepeoplevote.blogspot.com/2008/06/obama-equates-his-public-financing-lie.html

You have to give the Obama campaign points for hutzpah. Granted Obama’s decision to bypass public financing after he signed a pledge to take it is probably smart politics. However, his web site is now marketting that broken promise as a declaration of, “Independence from a broken system”. I suppose stating ‘I lied, but please send me money anyways’ would not be that effective a fundraiser, but it certainly would be more honest than pretending that this was some sort of noble decision. Referencing the Declaration of Independence to cover up this old school political maneuver is clever and shady.

  48. djia .. I too am moving a multitude of animals and lots of farm equipment … you don’t live in Tn do you? We are trying to sell some farm equipment so as not to move it. We have our big tractor and all of the attachments to run a farm listed at a steal of 10 grand .. just so we don’t have to move it. The 4 horses are going back to our old place in Wv so I’m not too worried about them .. except their leisure life is over, they will get back in the show ring winning shows again.

I am worried about trying to move with my 4 cats though .. they have run of the place here (huge farm) and we are going to be living in a camper for 4 weeks till the house is through. I will be living on my mil’s lot till the home is done and then moving again with them to the new house. I am trying to figure out how I’m going to keep 4 cats housed INSIDE a camper for 4 weeks without letting them out. I plan to try to get one of those dog kennels erected so they can go out for exercise .. BUT I am not looking forward to this at all.

All my furniture is going on one load and stored in the new state .. then we’ll pull the camper up and get moved in.

I’ve packed, cleaned out, give away, threw away and have NO IDEA where all this CRAP came from.

I have pulled a muscle in my side, I’m eating xanax by the bottles and then today I find out my new house is considered to be in a Flood Zone .. so we now have to by flood coverage .. and the place is damn away from water and just figured more $ for the friggin government to get out of my ass.

Frack it .. I almost wish I’d never put my place up for sale!!!!!

Moving is nerve wracking and draining. I’ve lost 4 pounds this week and I’m down to 89 lbs now .. not good for me.

  49. gawd, are there really pictures of Hill having to campaign for him? I thought it wouldn’t be till Friday. Oh, my heart is breaking. She is so brave and forgiving.

Kudos to Bill Clinton though! Stay in Europe Bill and do foundation work. I hope that within a few days Bill will be back to doing speechs and getting paid the big fracking bucks again and that will be the ultimate finger to the party and to BO.

Sad that Obama totally disprected the Clintons, and now he wants to ride their backs to the WH.

    Never with my vote.

I totally resemble that remark! LOL!!

No i am not in TN……wish i was moving to tennesee instead of South Dakota!
as for the cats….I don’t know t hat you will keep them in a trailer.. my farm cats would never sit for that LOL!
but perhaps simple a wood frame wrapped in chicken wire and throw a sheet of plywood on top for rain shelter would make a quick kennel & would keep them contained for a short period?

I still believe in a place called hope. Somebody also said that.

  53. Today, I received a donation request from the BO campaign. They probably obtained the address from the DNC. I did, what I did, with the DNC’s requests-I tore it up, into pieces and placed the pieces in the return postage paid envelope, and put it in the mailbox. Silly, I know, but I felt good doing it.

  54. birdgal

i just received a request for funds for the DCCC (whatever THAT is) from john edwards.. i prefer to send back a note, written on their donation stub in a big black marker, NO longer a democrat. NObama, NOway.

  55. still trying to figure out the “short ugly one”..none of them have been exactly GQ, if you know what i mean.

    night all.

  56. Re: “short ugly one”. I apologize for that distraction. The gist of my post was the “Hope springs eternal…” quote from Alexander Pope. He was a very great poet, but he had physical problems. Wikipedia says, From early childhood he suffered numerous health problems, including Pott’s disease[3] (a form of tuberculosis affecting the spine) which deformed his body and stunted his growth, no doubt helping to end his life at the relatively young age of 56. He never grew beyond 1.37 metres (4 feet 6 inches) tall. Although he never married, he had many women friends and wrote them witty letters.

I’ve read that women found him very unattractive physically but liked him a lot for his great work. I never cared about all of that. Again, I apologize.

  62. Miami mayor withholds Obama endorsement
This update from Herald political writer Beth Reinhard, who is covering Barack Obama’s speech inside the secure perimeter of Miami’s Hotel Intercontinental:

In a noteworthy snub of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, said he would not offer his endorsement today.

Diaz, who endorsed Hilary Clinton in the primary, said he would make a decision “on my own timetable.”

The mayor is in the spotlight this weekend as newly installed president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and host of its conference, taking place this weekend at the Hotel Intercontinental. Obama was a featured speaker there this afternoon.

Diaz, however, said the purpose of the nonpartisan convention was to focus on urban problems.

Diaz also refused to say whether he shared the concerns of Cuban-exile protesters outside the hotel, who have condemened Obama as a terrorist. They have attacked him for having campaign advisors who helped return Elián Gonzalez to Cuba eight years ago. Diaz was a member of the legal team that fought to keep the boy with his Miami relatives.

“I dedicated six months of my life to that cause,” Diaz said Friday. “I cringe every time I see the Cuban government use that boy for political purposes.”

I’m mean, all’s he or she needs is a xeroxed copy of a birth certificate from like Hawaii.

To drive a car, your birth certificate needs to be “original”, with a raised stamp. To be president, you just need a web site. We trust ya.

  78. felon=felony

so, this is how, he thinks he will win VA? By registering people awaiting trial. Very low.

  79. Yesterday, a friend of mine told me that the day after the Democratic Convention Barry will take a victory lap around the Washington Monument, declare himself the presumptive President. Then he will march boldly up Pennsylvania Avenue with the new seal in hand and a fearsome army of bots—like the rabble of Paris storming the Bastille . Whereupon the Marine Guards drop their rifles and surrender, and the bots hoist the Obama flag over the American Flag. The current occupant is led out in chains to the sound of thunderous applause (theirs + soros stands to make a fortune).

Call me a skeptic but I asked him whether it might not be a bit premature. After all it is only June, there has been no convention, no general election, and Barry has not been vetted. I also mentioned that notwithstanding his job performance or lack thereof the present occupant has no legal obligation to quit the premises until January 2008. Now I realize that when this guy is armed with a teleprompter he is fully capable of putting mass men in a trance (and putting me to sleep). But I have to tell you this scenario is too farfetched even for me.

Whereupon he asked me if I was nuts. Just look at the voter suppression in the caucuses, the attempt to force Hillary to quit the race before all states have voted, the opposition to of Florida and Michigan and the wonderful kangaroo court called the RBC–and now this marvelous seal. Those are all examples disenfranchisement are they not? Well, yes. Then why do you doubt that he would suspend elections—it is the ultimate extension of the disenfranchisement principle is it not? Yes, but I just don’t believe it will happen. Fine! Have it your way. But just tell me one little thing: who’s to stop it?

That got me really upset. Sir! said I: there is a Republican party who fight valiantly against such an assault by the elites on the American People. They will not aid and abet it like the DNC did. Whereupon he laughed and asked do you really think that msnbc will give them any airtime or fairly report what they say? Will Matthews ever give up his unnatural lust for Obama? Do you also believe in the tooth fairy? Well, do you?

At that point, there was only one thing I could do: raise my gloves in the air and repeat after Roberto Durnan “no mas”. It was sad and sobering to witness the death of democracy unfold before our very eyes and the spectacle made me sick to my stomach.

  80. I just watched the first 5 seconds of Nasty’s interview with Greta. That’s all I could stomach. Nasty had that “deer in the headlights look” when she was introduced. LOL!!
What the heck is wrong with Ca. putting that in office. I personally would like to see Nasty with Billo. He would make mincemeat out of her. Hillary handled him like an expert. Hillary is tough and Nasty is just scared all the time!!

  81. Nasty’s area covers SF and Marin counties. She won the primary by 90%, if that tells you anything.

  82. She may rate high with the elites in her district but she rates very low with the American people as a whole based on current polling data. Thus, it is rather obvious whose interests she is serving and whose interests she is not serving.

I grew so rich that I was sent
    By pocket burrough into parliament
I always voted in my party’s call
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all

I thought so little they rewarded me
By making me the ruler of the Queens Navy

  83. dija: No. This was a fictional piece which was intended to highlight some scary truths about the current situation. The balance of power is tilting away from the American people and toward global elites. Not much doubt in my mind about that. Hillary was the last best hope for the American People and that is why I signed on with her. That observation was first made by William at TM. He and others I admired there were gone last time I checked. I totally agree with it.

  84. omg i couldnt handle that either confloyd my gawd.
she is sure of herself we have a party nominee
    california get rid of her.
she stumbles and utters too ,does all elitist do that

THE DENVER GROUP IS NOW OPEN AND ACCEPTING CONTRIBUTIONS
The Denver Group is pleased to announce that we are now prepared to accept contributions. We have installed a donate button on our site to make it as easy as possible for contributions through PayPal, credit card or check.

We will use all the means at our disposal, primarily mass media through newspapers and television and any other form or media we deem appropriate to accomplishing our goals which is to insure that Howard Dean and the DNC have a fair, democratic, and open convention which adheres to democratic principles which means clearly and without compromise that Senator Clinton’s name must be on the ballot and that there is a roll call vote.

The only democratic process possible or acceptable is that Senator Clinton’s delegates have the opportunity to cast their votes on behalf of the 19 million voters they represent and super delegates must be given the choice and the opportunity at the convention, to cast their votes for the candidate they believe is both the strongest and most qualified to win in November and to execute the office of President once elected.

We thank all the many many people and groups who have emailed in advance with their support and enthusiasm for the Denver Group’s goals and thank them in advance for their contributions, and we will identify the groups participating as well as individuals if they wish. We will do everything we can to accomplish these goals and make it clear to the DNC that in the end, it will be in everyone’s interest including the party itself that these goals of fairness and democracy be achieved

  86. Nasty has that “deer in the headlights” look, because of the botox, which doesn’t allow for blinking of the eyes. LOL!

  87. meiyingsu:

The youtube posted by you earlier featuring Libya’s Gadaffi is mind-blowing. If that’s not proof that he is Muslim with only the Muslim’s interest in mind, I don’t know what is. EVERYONE should view that video.

    A MUST VIEW

  88. All of our enemies endorsing BO, is frightening. I would think, the government would be concerned about this. What about the CIA or Homeland Security? That video is mind blowing.

  89. Obama better look out!!!.. I see another Big BAM about to hit Obie in the face!!!

Obama’s Influence in the Horn of Africa

By: Mignon Evans Article Font Size

Raila Odinga, the charismatic, left-leaning prime minister of Kenya who claims to be first cousin to Barack Obama, owes much to the Illinois senator. Arguably, he would not occupy that high office but for Obama’s support in Kenyan elections.

Arguably too, had Odinga been more successful in those elections, Kenya would now be on a fast track toward becoming a radical Islamic state and a haven for al-Qaida activists. Odinga did not win the presidential elections last December, and only after weeks of murder and mayhem was a truce negotiated that promoted Odinga to the newly created office as prime minister.

Odinga says his mother was a sister of Obama’s father. For his part, Obama has neither confirmed nor denied the relationship. The elder Obama belonged to the Luo tribe, the same tribe Odinga hails from, and their ancestral villages are close to each other.

Regardless of their biological DNA, however, they clearly share political DNA. Obama made arrangements for Odinga (then an opposition politician in a bureaucratic slot) to attend the 2004 Democratic Convention. It was Odinga who announced Obama’s planned visit to Kenya in 2006 and Odinga who told the Kenyan press that he had proposed the trip to his American cousin.

Even in 2006, the junior senator from Illinois enjoyed rock-star popularity in Kenya. He was the local boy who had achieved breathtaking success in America: the only African-American in the U.S. Senate. Word was already out that this son of a Kenyan father might even run for president.

When Obama arrived, thousands of Kenyans lined the streets and mobbed the parks where he spoke, so much so that US Marines (in civilian clothes) from the embassy were assigned to his security detail. The setting was described by one Kenyan daily, The Nation, as “Obama-mania” and “a magnet for politicians”.

Raila Odinga enjoyed the benefits of this magnetism. For much of the trip, Odinga was at Obama’s side, sharing the platform with him, sometimes even addressing the crowds from the same microphone. When they went to Saiya district, Obama surprisingly did not visit his own father’s grave as had been expected; instead, he went to the mausoleum for Odinga’s father, an icon of the Kenyan independence movement.

For Odinga it was a PR triumph of the first order. The rock star’s glitter rubbed off on his putative cousin by the bucket.

Nor did Obama limit his role to boosting Odinga’s image. The senator also criticized the incumbent Kenyan president. Mike Flannery, political editor for CBS2 in Nairobi, reported that Obama had accused the Kibaki government (Odinga’s opponent) of corruption “almost every day since he arrived.”

The political temperature grew hotter than the Nairobi summer. Dr. Alfred Matua, a government spokesman, accused Odinga of “using Obama as his stooge, as his puppet.” Matua added, “Sen. Obama has to look critically at where he’s receiving advice from.”

Although there were personal elements to the Obama visit, e.g., his return to his ancestral village, he was in Kenya as the representative of the U.S. government. The fact that he was attacking the government of Mwai Kibaki, a stalwart U.S. ally in the war on terror, carried implications far beyond Obama’s support of a Luo tribesman.

Muslims constitute 10 percent of the Kenyan population and are concentrated largely in the northeast and along the coast. Many Kenyans were killed or wounded when al-Qaida bombed the American embassy in Nairobi in 1998. Al-Qaida struck again in 2002 when terrorists killed 13 people at a Mombasa resort and fired a Stinger missile at an airliner leaving Nairobi. More recently 35,000 refugees have fled from radical Islamists in adjacent Somalia into Kenya. President Kibaki’s vigorous prosecution of terrorists has met with vigorous objection from some elements of the Muslim community.

A year after Obama’s visit and just before winning his own party’s nomination for president, Odinga met with a radical Muslim group (the National Muslim Leaders Forum, NAMLEF) and entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Aug. 27, 2007. The fact that he and NAMLEF had signed an agreement was reported. The text of the MOU, however, was not revealed.

Soon, however, a copy of the document was circulating on the Internet: NAMLEF would “instruct all Muslims of their duty” to support Odinga for the presidency and Odinga, if elected, would implement a program that included:

    (1) Amending the Constitution to recognize Shariah as “the only true law sanctioned“ by the Quran in “Muslim-declared regions”;

    (2) Establishing Shariah courts throughout the country;

    (3) Requiring every primary school to conduct daily madrassa classes;

    (4) Empowering the Council of Muslim Elders to “oversee” all religious activities in the coast region with the right to disapprove “cults and other evil practices”;

    (5) Banning the sale of alcoholic beverages and other prohibited beverages everywhere that Muslims constituted 40 percent or more of the population;

    (6) Banning women’s clothing deemed offensive to Muslims in Muslim-majority sections of the country, applying the dress code to both Muslims and non-Muslims;

    (7) Making the northeast and coastal regions of the country autonomous; and

    (8) Disbanding the anti-terror police and issuing ID cards to all Muslims (regardless of immigrant status) in the Northeast and prohibiting extradition of “any Muslim residing in Kenya whether citizen, visitor, or relative.”

Such a program would have created a sanctuary for al-Qaida near the Horn of Africa and established a Taliban-like state in at least parts of Kenya.

Public demand that Odinga and NAMLEF disclose the MOU’s terms were met with silence. Then, The Nation reported on Nov. 5, Odinga denied signing any agreement with the Muslims, reminding his church audience that he too was a Christian.

By Nov. 7 a group of young Muslims denounced Odinga for denying the MOU, saying that he had effectively called certain sheiks liars.

By Nov. 8, Odinga acknowledged an agreement with Muslims but still declined to reveal its terms. Then various other Muslim groups joined in the dialogue, challenging NAMLEF’s authority to represent them.

By Nov. 14 Odinga announced he would release the MOU to public review. Finally, on Nov. 28 he provided the text of a document (the “real MOU”, he said) to the media. The MOU that had circulated on the Internet was a fake, he said. The new MOU contained nothing about Shariah law or madrassas, but it still raised eyebrows.

The fear inspired by the “Internet” MOU also inspired a heavy turnout of anti-Odinga voters, and he lost the late-December election to Kibaki. Odinga cried fraud, and Kenya was plunged into weeks of machete murders. Thousands were killed and 300,000 left homeless.

Kofi Annan was brought in to broker a truce. Ultimately both sides agreed to a power-sharing arrangement with Kibaki retaining the presidency and Odinga becoming prime minister. It is only a truce, however. Odinga has not taken his eyes off the goal. Neither has al-Qaida.

  90. listen to rense if ya got a chance tonight jim morris ..man he is right on target with ob a mccain..some stuff i never heard on mccain..and bo

  91. I just had a weird idea, but I am posting it because someone might want to try it…
What if a bunch of Hillary’s maxed-out donors got together and hired a top notch private investigator to check out certain aspects of Bwack’s past? Like the Sinclair evidence and the birth certificate and everything else that the investigative journalists are choosing to ignore?

  92. Jen-that is a great idea, but don’t you think that the Republicans are already doing precisely that. It would be done as part of their oppo research effort. Besides you really need to find the right investigator. And when you say the project would consist of “everthing else the investigative jouranalists are choosing to ignore (or suppress)”, I take that to mean the truth. The only thing the media really ignores is a little old thing called the truth, but who cares about that, we have an agenda to satisfy, a deadline to meet.

  93. since it’s a slow summer night, I’ll post the entire interesting article – not even sure who the Answer person is, but seems savvy: redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/question_and_answer_time_the_great_obama_clinton_debt_bailout_of_2008

    Q. So, what’s going on?
    A. Senator Obama is going to ask his donors to help retire Senator Clinton’s debt.

    Q. Well, isn’t that nice of him?
    A. Not especially, no.

    Q. Do you mean that it’s mean of him?
    A. No, I mean that it’s pretty much required of him.

    Q. Required? Do you mean, legally?
    A. Nope. He’s under no contractual obligation at all. Although he’d prefer to be.

    Q. Why?
    A. You can go to court sometimes and break a contract. Obama’s merely over a barrel.

    Read on.

    Q. Can we start from the beginning?
    A. Sure. It all started when the super-delegates decided to give Obama the nomination –

    Q. Didn’t he win the nomination?
    A. Not in the same way that McCain did, no. Neither Obama nor Clinton gained enough pledged delegates to win the election outright on the first ballot; the former is the assumed nominee solely because enough super-delegates have publicly supported him that he will win on the first ballot – assuming of course that none of them defect.

    Q. Why does that matter?
    A. Because nothing is in place to stop them from defecting – and if Obama craters in the next three months, they’ll drop him like a hot potato.

    Q. Would they really dare do that?
    A. Check in with former NJ Senator Torricelli and current NJ Senator Lautenberg, then get back to me.

    Q. OK, so why is this factoid important?
    A. Because it means that, until the nomination process is over, Obama needs Clinton more than Clinton needs Obama. Hence the debt relief.

    Q. Doesn’t she need him more, seeing as she’s the one in debt?
    A. Actually, no: half of Senator Clinton’s debt is self-owed – that is, she owes herself the money. The rest she could probably cover on her own.

    Q. So why doesn’t she?
    A. Because she can get Senator Obama to do it for her.

    Q. So why should he?
    A. Because of her donor list.

    Q. Her donor list?
    A. Yup. There are a lot of people who gave her money in the primary that didn’t give any to Senator Obama. He badly needs those people to give him money, too. But until her debt is gone, she has first crack at those people – and a legitimate reason not to muddy the waters by giving him the list.

    Q. Hold on. Obama’s a fantastic fundraiser, right? Why does he need these people?
    A. Because his fundraising numbers have been dropping since February 2008. That month, he raised $55 million; in May of 2008 he raised $22.889 million. That was only half a million more than John McCain raised in May, and Obama’s cash on hand is actually less than McCain’s when you take out the $10 million that he has dedicated for the general election. McCain, of course, is taking public financing for that, so Obama really needs some good months, and quickly. Having the Clintons will help, particularly when it comes to the DNC problem…

    Q. The DNC problem?
    A. Yeah, I guess that was a leading statement. It’s like this: if you look at the total numbers, you’ll see that the GOP is currently about $6 million down on cash-on-hand. However, when it comes to the RNC versus the DNC, the former has about $50 million more on hand to spend – and I’ve spoken with the deputy chair of the RNC: they consider their highest priority to be the Presidential election. For that matter, the DNC is currently facing an outright embarrassment with their convention in Denver: they’ve missed multiple deadlines in arranging for funding, and are likely to have to either cut back significantly, or go significantly in debt, unless Obama can funnel them the cash.

    Q. Wasn’t there an article about Obama hitting $100 million in June?
    A. You mean this piece of political erotica? Let me put it this way: we are 80% of the way through June, which means that if Barack Obama was on track for that prediction to come true he would have raised $80 million dollars by now. If he had done that, the Obama campaign would have paid to have that fact written on the moon. He will almost certainly do better this month than he did in May, and his cash on hand will improve, thanks to the end of the primary season. But this month’s expectations are far too high, for far too many people. The sooner that Obama can start mining Clinton’s supporters for cash, the less embarrassing it’s going to be for him when this comes out.

    Q. So he needs her donor list?
    A. So he needs her donor list. Which she seems reluctant to give out, until her debt’s repaired.

    Q. And to repair her debt…
    A. He needs to go to his big-money donors. If he pays it out of his cash on hand, he weakens himself, just in time for the June reckoning; if he makes the request of his small donors – most of whom have not maxed out their contributions – he risks them deciding that once they’ve paid for Clinton they no longer need to give. Hey, they passed up that vacation, right? How much did the Democrats expect them to sacrifice, anyway? Clinton’s big-money donors have all already maxed out themselves, and besides, they’re now waiting for Obama to offer them favors, not be asked for them in return. All of this leaves his strongest big money supporters, most of whom haven’t maxed out for Clinton. Amusingly, most of them don’t want to max out for Clinton.

    Q. Why?
    A. Because they despise her. Until the defections started, anybody who was ready to buck the trend and back the underdog against the frontrunner was probably doing it because they really hated Hillary Clinton. This should be their moment – except that now they’re expected to have to pay down her debt. It’s quite droll.

    Q. So, what happens now?
    A. At a guess? Obama pushes his big-money donors for donations to Hillary. In exchange, Hillary and her husband make a carefully-calculated amount of stumping for Obama. Once her debt goes away, she’ll have no excuse for not making her donor list available, so she’ll release it to the Obama campaign. The entire process will go more slowly than expected, so Obama will probably have to balloon payment the remaining at some point. That’ll cut into his cash-on-hand, so he’ll have to start seriously shaking his small-money donors for the necessary funds to make up for the shortfall.

    (pause)

Alternatively, she releases the damn thing tomorrow to him and I look like an idiot. This primary has been like that.

    Q. Um, don’t you mean the election?
    A. Nope.

  94. you know jen,

    that is a great idea.
there is no end of good investigative fodder to be found i think.

-the superdelegates could be investigated to find out if any were
    either threatened or bribed…

-the top democratic leadership could be investigated, to find out
if any maids, janitors, or attendants, overheard anything suspect.

-investigators could investigate precinct personnel from caucus
sites, to see if they have records of voter fraud.

-investigators could find obamas enemies, and find out what they
    think of him.

-investigators could look into michelle obamas little secrets under
    every racist little rock.

-maybe its time to look into olberman, and mathews and some
of the other faux news analysts colusion in this conspiracy.

-i would like to know what exactly some of our junior senators and
    congressman got for backing obama.

-maybe an investigator could find some guilt ridden fly on the
wall in the lunch room of the rules committee that gave hillarys
    votes to obama…

-and what exactly did the democratic party say to bill and hill,
to force them to bow out?

there are a million ways to spend money on a real good cause…

  95. they were talking about just this tonight on noquarter in the comment sections ( re: hiring a private investigator)
in fact some names and contact information was even posted….

I can’t remember which diary now, but it is one of the top few up now.

I think this would be a great idea by the way….. I am sure many hill supporters from across the blog’s would participate

it was suggested that what ever investigator to be hired, be asked to set up a pay pal account to accept donations directly
to their fee’s. my only problem with this i see is how will we know when their fee’s are paid and when they are over paid and what happens with the “over payment” money? my suggestion is that it is written in a contract with this investigator that the extra money be donated to a worthy pac or to hillary??

  96. I am sick of men and their ways, I realize not all are alike, but to get them to answer to a woman, even the mildest of them hate it. I tired of it! I agree with Ann Richards when she says that there is a special place in hell for those women who stab other women in the back!

  97. Great Newsweek article! I’m surprised cause I thought they were pretty much shilling for BO. Nevertheless, I’m sending it out to many compatriots. Thanks.

  98. obama low balls hillary debt relief-hillraisers should help fund the denver group so at least she gets a fair conv.
Obama asks donors to help Clinton with debt

WASHINGTON (AP) – Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday asked his finance team to help Hillary Rodham Clinton pay off a debt of at least $10 million from her failed presidential campaign, setting the stage for joint appearances by the two former rivals later in the week.
In a teleconference with his top fundraisers Tuesday afternoon, Obama asked them to do what they could to help Clinton, according to two Democrats familiar with the call. A campaign spokesman confirmed that Obama had asked them to help the former first lady.

“Some of our donors have asked and Barack said if they have the ability to raise or give money to help on debt, we encourage them to do so,” spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Obama’s green light to his money bundlers came two days before he and Clinton were scheduled to meet in Washington with some of her top fundraisers in a show of unity after their bruising contest for the Democratic presidential nomination. On Friday, the two planned to campaign together in New Hampshire.

Obama clinched the nomination earlier this month; Clinton suspended her campaign and endorsed him.

The former first lady reported a $22.5 million debt at the end of May, more than half of which was a personal loan to her presidential campaign. Clinton, in a call to her top fundraisers last week, said she would concentrate on paying off money owed to vendors, not her personal loans.

Obama’s finance team has expanded since he secured the nomination earlier this month, providing a broad base of potential assistance to Clinton. At least 200 fundraisers attended the campaign’s national finance meeting in Chicago last week. Scores were unable to attend, one participant said.

In urging his top fundraisers to help Clinton, Obama was counting on them to seek out their pool of donors to raise the money in large increments. Donors who have not contributed to Clinton’s campaign could give up to $2,300 to help her pay off her debts.

It remained to be seen whether Obama would make a similar appeal to his Internet donors, a vast network of small-dollar contributors who helped Obama shatter fundraising records during the primary contests. As of the end of May, Obama had raised more than $287 million.

Clinton donors had been making a clear case to Obama that he needed to use his fundraising resources to help her get out of the red. Her national finance co-chair, Hassan Nemazee, told The Associated Press last week that Clinton would be freer to campaign for Obama and raise money for him if she did not have to concentrate on retiring her debt.

Moreover, Nemazee said, it would be easier for Clinton fundraisers who wanted to help Obama to be able to tell former Clinton donors, “Look what Senator Obama has done for Senator Clinton.”

At least one Obama supporter said that message was heard, prompting Obama’s entreaty to his finance team on Tuesday.

  99. You know it’s all well and good that the daily show is now starting to question Obama on some of his trickiness, however notice it’s after Hillary suspended her campaign.

Before that not one news station, comedy show, or commentator (except maybe fox) would say anything about Obama and constantly humiliated Hillary.

  100. dedfg,

that’s what I think. More proof the outcome had been decided upon months, even years ago. 👿

  101. regarding the “unity” visit. gates open at 11:00am, but because there is no parking, people will be bussed-in and require a “ticket”. well, we all know what that means, sign-up to the obamabot mickey mouse club and we’ll let you in. no thanks. i’ll watch it on cspan if i can bring myself to tune in.

also, MO is in NH tomorrow..hosted by jeanne shaheen, our former governor now running for senate. they’re hosting a “womens outreach” forum. what a f**king joke.

the whole thing is enough to make me puke.

  102. alcina

I don’t want to see Hillary with bambi. I can’t stomach him. I can’t tell you how long it has been since i watch the news. This is some news i don’t want to see. I know they will be blasting it on every channel.

I was watching Army Wives, up pops bami on an ad. I was furious. No TV for me until this election is over.
I will be using my library card for a while to read a lot of books.

  103. neetabug,

This election cured me of the cable ‘news (I use that word lightly) habit.

All info is now from selected internet sites and talk radio. I’m close to canceling my cable subscription. I don’t trust or believe any so-called news source. It’s all propaganda, just like the original Gulf War and the the Invasion of Iraq.

  104. badil9

I need cable for my tv to come in clear. If it wasn’t for that i would have canceled my cable subscription a long time ago

  105. its not just cable the local news is just as bad. something negative about mccain and then something about how the hill voters are moving towards obama.. waking up to that noise is beyond repugnant.

  106. neeta

i know how you feel. i hurts like hell having hillary back in state and not being able to work for her. the thought of her paraded around like a POW kills me.

we must be strong like our girl. we’ll wait and take her lead (unless it’s for the BO unity crap) we will read between the lines.

    off to work!

  107. Dot- I share your concerns big time. If she campaigns for him at all that is bad enough, depending on what she says. But it is worse if she does this in exchange for money. This is the man and the machine that disrespects voters and did everything it could to destroy her character and to label her a racist. To embrace him now in exchange for money is all too reminiscent of the worlds oldest profession. That point will not be missed be the press and supporters will abandon her for McCain.

Politics is personal first and policy second. I think she has knows that better than anyone. If a politican breaks faith with supporters policy results will not redeem them. The issue here is not me. I believe in her and will support her whatever she does. She is greatness and her faith in our country is true and adorable. The issue is how to deal with the snake pit and how this will be perceived by 18 million supporters who did not want obama and will not be sold a bill of goods about him by anyone.

I saw the faux applause when she returned to congress. Her disavowal of all ambition and sublimation to the party. The false words by Reid. Her true friends in congress are admirable people. Schumer, Feinstein, et al. But if he wins the presidency the leadership positions will be reserved for his co-conspirators like cockroach McCaskill–not her.

In that case Hillary would become a tragic figure who tried to accomplish things for the American people only to be defeated not by her would be opponent but by a corrupt press and a cabal of leftist politicans and others who were threatened or bought off. The loser is the American people. Mr. Smith goes to washington, succumbs and Charles Krautheimer is proven right.

There are predicates for this in my own life, and no doubt in yours. Thirty years ago, I worked in the Alaska seafood industry and we had a 300 foot processing vessel stationed in Dutch Harbor. One day a terrible fire occured aboard that vessel in one of the cargo holds, a crewmember died, we were unable to extinguish the fire with high pressure hoses, foam etc.

We brought in a battalion fire chief from Seattle, he tried, failed and freaked out. As a last resort, before we towed the vessel out to sea to scuttle her, we brought in the fire marshall from Seattle. He was a great leader like Hillary, except he was 6’4” rather than 5’4″. He was a dead ringer for the actor Jeff Chandler-if you remember who he was or want to google it. What Red Adaire was to oil rig fires this guy was to shipboard fires. We flew in a 10,000 pound cannister of CO-2 from the North Slope and used it to fight the fire and save the ship based on his expertise.

Sometime later he was summoned before a kangaroo court of his political enemies in Seattle over this and forced to resign. One of the issues they used against him was that he borrowed co-2, o-2 and temperature gages from the city to fight the fire, because of exigient circumstances.

You can surmise what I think of kangaroo courts like the Rules and Bylaws commitee, whose members attended a cocktail party the night before the hearing and joked about how the case would be decided before the fact, and how funny it would be to see Hillary supporters-women standing out in rain the following day (rain had been predicted) when the result came down). What a wonderful grand climeractic that was to a fatally flawed nomination process,

For the reasons stated above it is doubly important that we raise enough money for her that she is not tempted to accept blood money from him.

  118. McCain calls for energy-efficient government
By GLEN JOHNSON 06.25.08, 8:14 AM ET

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Republican John McCain said Tuesday the federal government should practice the energy efficiency he preaches, pledging as president to switch official vehicles to green technologies and do the same for office buildings.

Expanding upon his ideas to address the nation’s energy crisis, the Arizona senator also called for a redesign of the national power grid so power is better distributed where it’s needed and the country has the capacity to run electric vehicles that he wants automakers to supply.

“Our federal government is never shy about instructing the American people in good environmental practice. But energy efficiency, like charity, should begin at home,” McCain said before conducting an energy round-table at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

McCain drives a 2003 Cadillac CTS, a sedan the Environmental Protection Agency says gets 16 to 24 miles per gallon and emits about 9.6 tons of greenhouse gases annually. When campaigning, he’s ferried by the Secret Service using a fleet of Chevrolet Suburbans, a full-size SUV the EPA estimates gets 12 to 20 mpg and emits 9 to 13 tons of greenhouse gases.

During the discussion, McCain made a comment likely to provoke discussion in Nevada, where he campaigns Wednesday and is the site of the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. McCain long has supported the facility, much to the chagrin of pivotal Nevada voters, although last month he suggested creating a foreign waste repository that might make the mountain site unnecessary.

McCain reiterated his support Tuesday for building up to 45 new nuclear power plants and said the technology exists for safe nuclear waste reprocessing and storage.

“It’s not a technological breakthrough that needs to be taken; it’s a NIMBY problem,” he said, using the acronym for “Not-In-My-Backyard.” “We’ve got to have the guts and courage to do what other countries are doing, and they are reducing the pollution to our environment rather dramatically without any huge pain to anybody.”

Later in the day, during a telephone town-hall meeting with Florida voters, a mother of two sons asked McCain under what circumstances he could envision a return to a military draft.

The Vietnam veteran said none, “except perhaps if we were in an all-out World War III. … I do not believe a draft is even practicable nor desirable unless it was an all-out world war.”

Among those on the energy panel was Republican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a McCain backer who opposes another major element of the candidate’s energy strategy – ending a decades-old federal ban on offshore drilling. McCain has said he would leave the decision to the states if the moratorium were lifted.

“John and I both know we can protect our environment and our economy at the same time,” Schwarzenegger said in his opening remarks. He did not mention offshore drilling.

“I have every confidence that once Senator McCain is in the White House, America will get back in the game when it comes to a sensible, consistent and forward-looking energy policy,” Schwarzenegger added.

Offshore drilling is particularly sensitive in this coastal community 100 miles north of Los Angeles, where a 1969 oil spill dumped an estimated 3 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean.

Despite emphasizing the optional nature of his proposal, McCain has heard complaints about it throughout his two days of campaigning in California, a Democratic-leaning state the GOP hopes to put in play in the general election.

“We’re really kind of goosey here about oil spills, and we’re goosey here about federal drilling and oil lands, which are abundant offshore,” Dan Secord, a member of the California Coastal Commission, told McCain during a Santa Barbara fundraiser Monday night.

McCain acknowledged offshore drilling would do little to immediately lower record gasoline prices, but he argued that the specter of additional supply would undercut speculation that has driven the price to more than $4 a gallon.

“Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial,” the senator said during a town-hall meeting in Fresno.

His Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, criticized McCain’s claim of a psychological benefit as political posturing.

“In case you’re wondering, in Washington-speak what that means is it polls well. It’s an example of how Washington tries to convince you that they’ve done something to make your life better when they really didn’t,” said Obama, who was campaigning in Las Vegas.

“The American people don’t need psychological relief or meaningless gimmicks … they need real relief that will help them fill up their tanks and put food on the table,” Obama said.

During the round-table discussion, McCain received some of the straight talk for which he has a reputation.

Michael Feeney, executive director of the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, was unyielding in his criticism of McCain’s call for building 45 nuclear power plants and drilling offshore.

“I don’t understand how it’s not compromising our environmental standards to propose a crash program to build more nuclear power plants, when the industry has not complied with the federal law that requires the safe disposal for the radioactive waste,” Feeney said.

Also, with a 15% point lead, we are now less likely to have her offered the VP as he is an arrogant prick and thinks(maybe correctly) he does not need the Clintons….what a bunch of idiots this country has become..from Bush to Obama…my god we are lost.

F_ck Newsweek. They should have been running that piece during the primaries. This is their little CYA move to try and pretend like they’re balanced.

Most if not all of the info in that story has been known for a long time. The timing isn’t a coincidence, IMO.

Very happy to see The Denver Group up and running. That is exactly the kind of thing we need. As I have said in the past, I don’t care who is running the groups or who is getting credit as long as the groups are being run well and we have organizations to unify our efforts. Things are getting done with PUMA, Just Say No Deal, hcsfjm, etc. and now The Denver Group. Excellent.

I just got an email from the HRC team asking for donations for her debt, and I will be sending one. If Bwak can help her with her debt, great. It won’t change my mind at all but it will help HRC. I’m good with that.

I got a piece of mail yesterday from the RNC. They and McCain are making moves and that is good to see. The $ imbalance they enjoy due to the DNC’s coup is going to hurt Bambi is they go through with the coup and nominate him. I still have hope for HRC being nominated and know that if she is not Pejokesi, Bambi and the rest are going to suffer for it.

Speaking of Nancy, her Congress just rang in with a 12% approval rating last week, I believe.

    Nice job, loser.

Her remarks about sexism were an embarrassment. She is part of the limo liberal posse who can’t relate to average Americans in the least. No wonder she, Tommy Friedman and Bwak don’t care about gas prices — it doesn’t mean jack to them.

Some new LA Times/Bloomsberg poll, I think, is showing Dork Man up by like 10+ points.

    Crap.

That is a joke, just as some poll which I believe showed that more Americans trust Stick Guy with either national security or energy policy is a joke. Just like the Newsweek poll, all of these things are gamed-out and unsound. Don’t believe these things for one minute because they are about as reliable as the pre-New Hampshire Primary polls when BaClown went down to defeat.

The only thing I’m concerned about at all is that the GOP needs to fire up the 527 machine. Some of the Dem groups are already starting to slowly build the war chests up to target the coup figurehead but I want to see the GOP begin massing their side’s forces.

From the perspective of if Dumbo Ears is the nominee I think things are shaping up well. And the faster that HRC can clear out her debt — with or without Bwak’s help — the sooner she can be freed-up to do what she needs to do to be in position for August.

Great day here in NEPA. Hope it’s the same in your neck of the woods.

  122. nice email from Hill today asking for contrib to pay down the debt — glad to get it because I have been reluctant to see money sent to her go to help him, though maybe that was useless worry. I still add 44cents – do you all do the same?

In the meantime, it would be appropriate for big media to look iteself in the mirror every morning and say aloud three times I am in the tank for obama, and I will work with his campaign to get him elected just as I did in the primary.

  129. jbstonesfan

I think he will not get a bump coming out of the convention…….as i believe one of two things will happen at convention

obama is the SELECTED nominee…NO BUMP will look like a complete loser that he is other than in the “FAKE” poll results, and it will go down hill from there for him and the DNC….McCain will be our next president

Hillary is nominated … buyers remorse takes over and Hillary is our truly ELECTED NOMINEE and will have a HUGE lead over McCain and She will win the GE and be our Madam President!

  130. MP

that largely depends on what YOU BELIEVE are that stupid ??? or are they just “PLAYING STUPID” ???

I believe it’s the latter one.

  131. djia:

I hear you….”playing stupid” is what they are now doing.

But I hope I can use this argument for McCain when I talk against Reid, DNC, Dean and Pelosi.

  132. Count the votes @ 1:02: very good analysis. This was in line with all my general assumptions about the fundraising efforts. However, I did not understand the rolling factors and other details at work here. That is an excellent posting.

I hope Hillary does not release her donor list to Obama. I know that is done routinely and I even recall a guy out west that was always trying to sell me the donor list of a prominent senator. I think it was an under the table deal and that aspect bothered me alot. We never pursued it and treated it as a joke.

In this case I think there is legitimate concern. In a nutshell I do not think it is a good idea to let the shadowy people behind Obama have access to that information. If that is the endgame then contributors should have an opportunity to have their names redacted prior to transfer.

  133. I just got another e-mail from DNC…I tell them to F-off every time b/c of what they did to Hillary, yet, they keep coming back.

Gallup’s daily tracking poll gives Bambi a 3-point lead over McCain today, which is almost within the 2-point margin of error. If Hillary were the nominee she’d have a 10-point lead right now.

  135. Mayor Bloomberg came to Boca and disgraced himself with his support for Obama…guess he still wants to be VP.

  136. I don’t believe Pampers and his money people will do anything for Hillary. They’re just saying that because that’s their party unity script, just as Hillary has to utter those lines about supporting Barack Obama so we can put a Democrat in the White House. We’re supposed to believe Waffles, even though he lies about everything. And we’re supposed to believe Hillary is truly supporting the liar, even though her demeanor and body language make her look like she’s in a hostage video. I would love to know what she thinks of the PUMA/No Deal movement. She cannot encourage us publicly, of course, but if she were displeased I think she would have told us “Thanks, but no thanks” by now.

  137. Henry, My sister from Houston called last night and told me that Bambi was going to win. SHe is a mCCain supporter bc she is pro israel. I told her I thought the polls were wrong and McCain will win. Do you or any one else heard anything different. This country can’t afford to have an Arab terrorist running it!

  138. Just got an email response from Carl Levin. He wrote about New Hampshire and Iowa’s unfair monopoly on the primary process and how he has worked to change it, yada yada yada. Then he wrote this:
    ********
Since the DNC’s decision to strip Michigan of its voting delegates to the 2008 nominating convention, I have worked with a number of my Democratic colleagues from Michigan to ensure that our delegation to the Democratic National Convention in August is seated with full voting rights. During the past few months, we looked at a number of options, including several “redo” scenarios for another Michigan primary vote. Unfortunately, none of these options proved realistic or feasible.

On May 31, 2008, I testified before the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee, advocating that Michigan’s delegates be seated with full voting rights at the convention. After much deliberation, the Committee voted to reinstate voting rights to Michigan’s delegates in the compromise configuration for which I advocated, but with each pledged delegate receiving only half a vote at the August convention. Based on assurances I have received from Senator Obama, I am confident that Michigan’s full delegation will be seated at the Democratic National Convention with full voting rights.

Throughout the primary process, giving Michigan a voice that matters and seating our delegates with full voting rights, regardless of their allocation, have been my highest priorities. You can be assured that I will continue to work toward a more representative and fair presidential nomination process for future elections. Thank you again for contacting me.
    ***********
So Obama gets to decide if Michigan has full voting power at the convention. Why am I not surprised? And notice there is NO mention of Hillary at all, even though my original email to Carl Levin was mostly about how I thought she’d gotten screwed (only I used a more formal tone).

  139. jbstonesfan Says:

  142. Levin gave up on Hillary last year when he told a friend of mine she didn’t have a prayer. …sigh… All the tired old men. This election season seems more and more like the dominance of all the tired old men. Kerry, Kennedy, Dean, McCain, Axelrod, Wright, Farakhan Rezco, Auchi, Soros, Ayres – Dems and Repubs alike, are all fighting the wars of yesteryear instead of taking on the issues of today. And the champion tired old man of them all is Obama, fighting the causes he inherited from his mother, his father, his grandparents, his church, his tired old mentors… not a breath of fresh air from any of these tired old men in the whole damned country! No wonder they are all so afraid of Hillary – younger than all of them, fresher, brighter, more vital, more hands-on in the issues, sharper, clearer, far more articulate, a woman of 60 looking like 40, performing like 30, snappy as a teener and more determined than a bright-eyed babe. She is the real audiacity of hope! Since she left the scene, the daily news is the daily bore. If this election is ultimately to be about the less bumbling of the two contesting tired old men, maybe we all ought to just sit this one out and start working on the next one. Except… we must stand very tall behind Hillary – each of us should find a way to let her know every single day how much we appreciate her. Let the tired old men try to bury her. We the people must not fail the Clintons, who have never failed us. We, the people, will speak of the Clintons to future generations, and we will bury the tired old men

  143. Ruth Marcus: Remind me to send you a copy of george orwells 1984 so you can get ahead of the power curver for once. Or maybe just the seal. BTW she claims the rejection of public financing was bound to happen. I had this argument with a Republican one night who claimed this was free speech and if we did not allow private money the New York Times would control the discourse. We now know that they will dictated the debate either way so forget about that. Instead Ruth consider this question: do we want the fate of our country to be determined by the people or by big money because if it is the former we cannot allow public financing to die. Years ago Hollywood mogul Barry Dillard made this very argument and unlike so many others that have been put forward only to be repudiated, this one is as valid as ever.

    Not Barack Obama.

Click on Obama’s campaign Web site and you’ll find a virtual parchment scroll, complete with running tally of how many “citizens have declared their independence from a broken system by supporting the first presidential campaign truly funded by the people.”

Written as ” the PEOPLE,” in that familiar, evocative style — and with a July 4 deadline for signing up.

So Obama isn’t just junking his campaign pledge to participate in the public financing system if his opponent agreed to do the same. He isn’t just becoming the first presidential candidate since Watergate to run a campaign fueled entirely by private money.

No, he deserves praise for this selfless — scratch that, patriotic– move.

“Our opponents are dedicated to manipulating this broken system to raise as much money as possible — and they’ve proven they are very good at it,” Obama’s site declares. No mention that Obama’s been pretty good at it himself, raising $295 million to John McCain’s $122 million. “To compete” — as if he wouldn’t be competitive otherwise — “Barack has decided to keep putting his faith in ordinary people like you giving only what you can afford.”

Ordinary people, that is, if your definition of ordinary people includes bundlers who can collect six- and even seven-figure sums for your campaign. Because even as he was rhapsodizing in public about “the grass-roots values that have already changed our politics and brought us this far,” Obama was privately cozying up to Hillary Clinton’s major fundraisers.

Earlier this month, he dispatched his campaign manager, David Plouffe, to woo Clinton bundlers in Washington and New York. This week, Clinton will introduce Obama to nearly 200 of her major bundlers, including some who have raised $1 million or more, in a meeting at the Mayflower Hotel.

“This group could represent 50 million, if not 100 million, bucks,” said one top Clinton strategist.

Their money is central to Obama’s bet that he will do better raising money on his own than taking the $84 million in public financing for the general election. The Obama campaign is aiming to bring in another $300 million for the candidate — $200 million of that from smaller donations, $100 million from the big players — plus $150 million for the Democratic Party, much of which would also come in big contributions.

Donors can give $2,300 each to Obama’s primary and general election campaigns. So can their spouses. Each can also give $28,500 to the party. So you and your spouse are welcome to write a check totaling $66,200. So much for the campaign truly funded by “ordinary people.”

The Obama campaign likes to point out that 93 percent of its 3 million contributions have been $200 or less; nearly half have been $25 or less. Those numbers are impressive, and they reflect a healthier mix of small donors than the McCain and Clinton campaigns. But they are also misleading. One-third of Obama’s cash has come in the form of contributions of $1,000 or more. Even in the age of the Internet, those don’t tend to arrive courtesy of the Check Fairy. Bundlers help.

I don’t take issue with Obama’s decision to opt entirely out of the public financing system. That was bound to happen eventually. Obama is smart to exploit his fundraising advantage over McCain. The political price of his about-face will be negligible. Likewise, I don’t begrudge Obama his bundlers — or Clinton’s bundlers, for that matter.

What’s galling is Obama’s effort to portray himself through this entire episode as somehow different from, and purer than, the ordinary politician. Different might have been coupling the announcement with a self-imposed limit on the size of donations. Different might have been — it could still be — taking the big checks but acknowledging that, since bundlers will be bringing in even bigger hauls, disclosure should be adjusted accordingly, to reveal not only who raised $200,000 but also who brought in $500,000, who $1 million.

Obama’s not the first politician to break a promise. He may be the first to do so in the guise of John Hancock, exuberantly signing the Declaration.

Barack Bucks Bipartisan Consensus on Israel

Ben Smith reports that AIPAC has released two letters to President Bush offering support for Israel’s right to self-defense and calling on Arab states to do more to advance the peace process. The first letter is signed by 77 senators, including John McCain. The second letter is signed by one senator, Barack Obama.

    Obama’s letter includes this statement:

A fundamental principle of America’s Middle East Policy must be our unshakable commitment to Israel. I believe that is a bipartisan commitment, and I will work to continue to advance that consensus.
Surely this country’s commitment to Israel is bipartisan, but Barack Obama has gone out of his way to make sure that he is not a part of that consensus. By drafting his own letter, rather than joining 77 other American Democratic, Republican, and Independent senators, Obama has sent a clear signal to friend and foe alike: he is not part of the bipartisan pro-Israel consensus that currently exists in Washington.

Imagine this: After a long day at work, you’re stirring a pot of spaghetti when the phone rings. It’s John McCain.

This wasn’t a telemarketing joke — the McCain campaign Tuesday night called 50,000 Democratic and independent voters who live in Broward and Palm Beach counties for a “tele-townhall meeting” with the presidential candidate. About 4,500 people participated.

The campaign says the voters were randomly selected and could ask the presumptive Republican nominee whatever they wanted, though the topics were screened.

The event was part of a series of in-person and call-in meetings that McCain is hosting with Democrats and independent voters as he tries to distance himself from an unpopular Republican administration.

“The last eight years haven’t been that great — they’ve been a disaster,” a man who identified himself as Michael from Broward County told the Arizona senator. “What assurances do we have that it’s not going to be the same old thing?”

McCain noted that he has clashed with Bush on climate change, interrogation of suspected terrorists and management of the war in Iraq.

“I honestly believe it is time for change in Washington,” said McCain, who was on the line from California. “The question is whether it’s the right change or the wrong change.”

With Democrat Barack Obama expected to raise tens of millions of dollars more than McCain, call-in meetings are a cheap way for McCain to reach a mass audience in a costly battleground state like Florida.

Obama began running television ads in 18 states last week, including Florida, while McCain is currently airing less-expensive ads on cable.

The callers Tuesday night were all friendly and mostly complimentary. McCain fielded questions for about 45 minutes on taxes, public education and healthcare.

In a nod to South Florida’s large Jewish population, McCain vowed to enforce tough sanctions against the anti-Israel leader of Iran and to “prevent another Holocaust.” He also repeated his call for the federal government to allow oil drilling off Florida’s coast.

    OBAMA’S PLEDGE

In Jacksonville last week, Obama promised to continue the federal ban on offshore drilling because, he said, drilling would not lower gas prices and could harm the environment. Obama’s campaign has also tried to drive a wedge between McCain and Florida voters by assailing his opposition to a national catastrophic insurance fund.

“Sen. McCain is the most anti-Florida presidential candidate in modern history,” said U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler of Boca Raton, in a call with reporters arranged by the Obama campaign before the McCain meeting.

A new Miami Herald poll shows Obama 16 points ahead of McCain in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Pollster John Zogby said the survey suggests Obama will be competitive in Florida, though Democratic nominee John Kerry won South Florida by 19 points and still lost to President Bush in 2004.

“We do have some work to do, simply because Sen. Obama has not spent a lot of time in Florida,” Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston said during the Obama campaign call.

    “WINNING IN IRAQ”

McCain was introduced at the “tele-townhall” by Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, the former Democratic vice presidential nominee well known in South Florida from his frequent appearances in the 2000 campaign. McCain and Lieberman advocated increasing troops in Iraq, while Obama has opposed the war from the start.

“I was right. He was wrong,” McCain said. “We are winning in Iraq.”

But polls show most voters remain opposed to the war. Robin in Parkland, who described herself as a Democrat and former Hillary Clinton supporter, said she was worried about her sons, ages 10 and 12.

“What assurances do I have that my children will not be sent to war?” she asked.

Responded McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam: “I think we live in a dangerous world, and I have to give you some straight talk . . . I can’t guarantee you I won’t send anyone in harm’s way, but I can tell you that I know war, I hate war, and it will be the last choice I will make.”

After McCain hung up the phone, voters were told they could leave messages and the campaign would respond.

  147. Lil ol grape: if not now then when? If not her then who? Those two questions should be front and center on the mind of thinking people across the country. If a highly qualified woman is to be punished by the old men of the party because she cared enough about our country to run for president then what are the implications. And please for gods sake dont tell me that barbara boxer and claire mccaskill will speak to the issue of sexism and womens right. We know where they were when the chips were down. The only one who can speak to that issue with credibility is Hillary.

  148. I am going to send Hillary a check. I will put a note in it. I don’t want Hillary to think because Obama asked this is why i am giving. I will make it known to her. If Obama ask me to do anything, it will be a BIG FAT NOOOOOOOOOOOO. I will let her know we don’t want her to be held hostage to Obama because of her debt. Her supporters are trying to pay her debt off

  149. Gravitas:“I think we live in a dangerous world, and I have to give you some straight talk . . . I can’t guarantee you I won’t send anyone in harm’s way, but I can tell you that I know war, I hate war, and it will be the last choice I will make.”

  150. This election cycle for 2008 is a deliberate attempt to sabotage Hillary Clinton’s campaign all along I think the republicans wanted Nobama from the start.
These people are very shewrd for Obama using the Daly dirty style politics they are maniuplating the polls in his favor covering his flip flops but we must sway the percentage points needed to defeat this fraud.

Correction: My friend (who spoke to the brothers Levin of Michigan regarding Hillary) just read my post and said I remembered it wrong. It was not a year ago, it was a few weeks before the infamous meeting of the RBC, and what he said was, “The deck is stacked against her.” How could I have forgotten that?! Probably because at the time it was said I had no idea how telling that remark was!

It’s Not Even Close: Obama Should Pick Clinton for VP
    By Bob Beckel

It’s not even close. Compare Hillary Clinton to all the names being floated for Barack Obama’s running mate and the conclusion is beyond obvious Senator Obama, you are a very smart man which makes me confident you are ignoring the advice of the Washington chattering class who are strongly opposed to you putting Hillary Clinton on the ticket .

The chatterers are nice people but let’s face it, most have never been involved in a campaign, know nothing about targeting, or persuadable voters, or analyzing polls beyond the match race and favorability ratings. They are people who harbor negative feelings towards Hillary Clinton formed years ago and who stubbornly ignore the evidence of her political maturation.

On the outside chance Senator you are listening to this uninformed conventional wisdom I offer the following rebuttal of the chatterers arguments and the case for choosing Clinton. For the record I did not support Clinton’s campaign for the Democratic nomination.

    * The chatterers insist she will be a drag on the ticket and bring the Republican base to the polls in huge numbers. If it is not obvious to the chatterers yet, they should pay closer attention the vicious anti Obama tirades by right wing bloggers and conservative talk radio show hosts. The Right will come to the polls all right…to vote against Barrack Obama in droves with or without Hillary Clinton.

    * A drag on the ticket. Please. Hillary Clinton immediately expands the electoral map putting states in play that are currently out of Obama’s reach; West Virginia, Kentucky, and Arkansas. She helps move toss up states to leaning Democrat; New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada (if Obama breaks north of 60% of the Hispanic vote he wins all three, Clinton helps get him there). Clinton helps solidify weak Democratic states including Pennsylvania and Michigan; she can bolster Obama’s lead in Ohio and probably makes Florida competitive which it is not currently. Any other VP candidate that can expand the map like this? Not even close.

    * Chatterers insist Clinton will be a distraction to your campaign. Exactly what does that mean? That she will be on another page and therefore step on your message? Ridiculous. There is no more disciplined, on message politician in America than Hillary Clinton. But the argument raises a question; why would she want to step on the message? If the message doesn’t succeed then you don’t succeed, then Hillary doesn’t succeed. Why would she want that?

    * Then there are the Bill Clinton arguments including his refusal to release contributors to his foundation. Fine, get him to agree to release the information but insist Cindy McCain release all her financial holdings, her separate tax returns for seven years, the amount of money her companies have paid in lobbying and pr to promote the sale of alcohol, and every position she holds in every company in which she has a financial interest or is on the board of directors. I think you will find the McCain campaign less insistent on Bill’s financial disclosure.

    * The Clintons are likely to make gaffes on the campaign trial the chatterers insist. Hillary Clinton has just finished running in 54 contests and got better and better with each one. Name me one of the other VP choices who can come close to matching her campaign skills. Certainly Bill Clinton made some mistakes during the nominating campaign but mostly because he took attacks on his wife too personally. He is still the best campaign horse in the stable. With Hillary on the ticket he’ll campaign daily, without her only occasionally. Set Bill Clinton free in Appalachia and watch the anti Obama votes go way down.

    * If you are elected Senator, so the charge goes, the Clintons will be constant problems for you. Hillary will promote her own agenda and Bill will wander the West Wing subverting your presidency. Absurd. When you get sworn in as president your stature will dwarf the Clintons. You have the Oval Office, Air Force One, and loyalists staffing the White House that wouldn’t listen to Bill Clinton unless you insisted on it. I’d be surprised if he was in the White House more than a few days each year.

    * As for Hillary subverting you, see above. Her political future will be dependent on your success; therefore she has every interest in promoting your agenda. The alternative (without her on the ticket) is much more problematical. She will be a huge force in the Senate with her own base and agenda. Would you rather have her out of the tent on the Hill permoting her own ideas or in your tent promoting yours? Not even a close call.

*A few other benefits of Clinton on the ticket; no one will be a more effective attack dog against McCain and the Right than Hillary. She can take the heat and defend you (something you are increasingly forced to do yourself). Every attack on McCain by Clinton will get wide coverage. No one has had more experience than Hillary on taking the Right to the wood shed and beating them to a pulp. She becomes the lightening rod, you go back to change and hope. Can any other VP choice do that? Not even close.

    * By putting Clinton on the ticket you marry up the best money and organizational operations in the history of the Democratic Party. It wasn’t her national organization that screwed up it was her supposed brain trust. With her money people committed, a $400 million dollar budget is very doable. Does any other VP choice have an organizational and money base like that? Not even close.

    * You will sit atop the most unified Democratic Convention since the advent of television. The picture of you and Hillary Clinton together is a nightmare for Republicans. The GOP operatives are yearning for you to pick anyone besides Clinton. You scare them, she scares them, together you are their worst nightmare.

    * Finally, and maybe most important of all, McCain and the Right have only one hope of defeating you Senator, and that is to make you too naïve and risky to be Commander in Chief. Your vice presidential choice must reek of experience. The argument against Clinton is she represents the past and hurts your change message. Sure the voters want change from what hasn’t worked, but they embrace past success. Most voters recall the Clinton years (from a policy perspective at least) as successful. A message of change combined with a record of past success is a more comforting message than change alone. Can another VP candidate provide that level of comfort? Not even close.

  155. By drafting his own letter, rather than joining 77 other American Democratic, Republican, and Independent senators, Obama has sent a clear signal to friend and foe alike: he is not part of the bipartisan pro-Israel consensus that currently exists in Washington.
    ————————————————
I had a conversation last week with a friend of mine who was borne in Iran, emigrated to the United States and became a US citizen. He is Persian not Arab and is part of one of the great cultures of world civilization. He told me that prior to the Komeni takeover, the Shaw (sp) came to the Carter Administration and asked for their support to suppress the opposition and thus pre empt the coup. The Carter administration was non commital and did not give him the nod he wanted. As a result he balked the rest as they say is history.

If we have learned anything at all over the centuries about diplomancy it is that markers must be laid down albeit carefully. Our position must be stated with clarity, unless there is some reason for constructive ambiguity. With the Israeli Iran conflict escalating, I think it is unwise for Obama to separate himself from the established postion as he has done thorugh his own correspondence. He mouths reassuring platitudes but as always actions speak louder than words. Unless of course he is angling for an endorsement by the Supreme Ruler.

ABC News & Washington Post Reporters Alter Obama Speech To Cover Gaffe

As previously reported, Barack Obama made a scathing attack upon John McCain’s proposal for a $300 million prize for the development of a next-generation battery yesterday. In a delivered speech Obama stated, “In statements made today, Mr. Obama remarked, “I’ve been talking about this myself for the last few years. But I don’t think that a $300 million prize is the way to go. When John F. Kennedy decided that we were going to put a man on the moon, he didn’t put a bounty out for some rocket scientist to win – he put the full resources of the United States government behind the project and called on the ingenuity and innovation of the American people, not just in the private sector but also in the public sector.”

Obama’s gaffe claiming that “I don’t think that a $300 million prize is the way to go…” was a direct reflection of his inherent misunderstanding of American Ingenuity over the past 232 years, as reported in Obama World: Government Not American Ingenuity Will Solve The Gas Crisis. More importantly however is the fact that news organizations across the country conveniently failed to publish this portion of Obama’s remarks. Both CNN Online and The New York Times published excerpts of the speech that omitted the gaffe.

Two reporters, however, took it upon themselves to alter the text of Obama’s speech in articles they published. In an ABC News article published last night, Jennifer Duck included the following quote from Obama’s speech, “I’ve been talking about this myself for the last few years. But I don’t think a $300 million prize is enough…” (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/06/obama-swipes-mc.html)

The same quote was attributed to Obama in a Washington Post article written by Shailagh Murray. “He did give McCain credit for proposing a contest to produce a better car battery. ‘But I don’t think a $300 million prize is enough…’” (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/06/24/obama_ridicules_mccains_energy.html)

One can blame the alteration of Obama’s speech on poor reporting or even a lack of editorial oversight and fact-checking; or does this incident further highlight a lack of journalistic integrity in reporting the facts versus a the reporters view of what the story should be.

  158. Obama’s dumbest statement yet: Asserts the absurd notion of trickle up

It’s getting difficult to read an article about Barak Obama, where he is not quoted saying something completely stupid. Each day brings a new remark that had it been made by George Bush, would have provided 10 minutes of material for John Stewart. But Bush only mangles words, Obama mangles entire concepts.

For instance, I was reading a Fortune Magazine article by Nina Easton about Barak’s sudden infatuation with business, when I came across this Obamanism: “In America, prosperity has always risen from the bottom up”. Really? Prosperity has always risen from the bottom up in America?

    Obama’s Emails With Scarlett Johansson

    By Shailagh Murray
    LOS ANGELES — blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/06/24/obamas_emails_with_scarlett_jo.html

As he headed to a Hollywood fundraiser, Sen. Barack Obama downplayed the idea that he hobnobs with actress Scarlett Johansson.

The movie star, who campaigns actively for the Illinois senator, recently told the website Politico, “You’d imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly ‘on’ – how can he return these personal emails? But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them.”

She said Obama had responded to one note about a debate, commenting to her that the questions were “silly.”

But speaking to reporters aboard his campaign plane, Obama said the actress doesn’t have his personal email address. “She sent one email to Reggie, who forwarded it to me,” Obama said, referring to his 26-year-old personal assistant, Reggie Love. “I write saying, ‘thank you Scarlett for doing what you do,’ and suddenly we have this email relationship”

  161. Obama Making Private Calls Appealing To Hillary’s Top Fundraisers — And Sometimes Hearing Criticism In Return
    By Greg Sargent – June 25, 2008, 10:05AM
    tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/06/obama_making_private_calls_app.php

Barack Obama has begun privately calling Hillary’s top fundraisers and making personal appeals for their support, and in some cases is getting some criticism in return, suggesting that the delicate task of uniting the fractured Democratic fundraising establishment is still incomplete.

Obama’s calls to the donors, which were described to me by multiple sources directly familiar with them, come at a very sensitive moment, with negotiations between the two campaigns continuing. Tomorrow Hillary and Obama are set to meet with all these money people together — a high-stakes event that both camps are hoping will go well.

“Obama has been calling Hillary’s top money people and asking for their support, but the fundraisers are in some cases being critical of Obama’s operation,” said a senior Hillary person who works directly with her top donors on a regular basis.

According to sources, the Hillary fundraisers’ criticism of Obama on these calls has focused partly — but not exclusively — on a demand that Obama do more to retire Hillary’s campaign debt. This perhaps explains why Obama went out of his way yesterday on a call with his own donors to ask them to help her out.

But these criticisms from the donors suggests that bitterness may remain until Obama’s efforts show actual results on her behalf.

Venture capitalist Alan Patricof, one of Hillary’s top fundraisers and one of the more sought after money-people in the Democratic Party, declined to comment on personal discussions with Obama. “All of Hillary’s supporters want to be helpful to Senator Obama and assure his election,” Patricof told me. But he stressed that Hillary’s debt problem remained unsolved.

“We are also appropriately concerned with the need for his direct support to help retire part of her debt,” he said. “He is mindful of this matter and I am very hopeful that he will be helpful.”

But Hillary’s debt isn’t the only concern.

The senior Hillary source also said that in addition to the campaign’s debt, the Hillary donors wanted clear signs that they were being heard. “People want this to work,” this source said, “but they also want to have their say before they play nice.”

According to sources, Hillary’s finance chair, businessman Hassan Nemazee, also received a personal call from Obama. But he declined to comment or discuss any aspect of the call, saying he wouldn’t talk about personal conversations.

Obama campaign spokesperson Bill Burton declined comment on the calls, saying he doesn’t discuss private conversations. But the Obama campaign has publicly discussed Obama’s private calls to his own donors asking them to give to Hillary, suggesting that the Obama camp wants to broadcast the message that they realize the depth of the problem and are serious about helping her out.

  162. Because sometimes you just have to laugh, sad as it is….

First, I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that — in which there’s a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage. And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the — of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)

    PRESIDENT ARROYO: Yes.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And the chef is a great person and a really good cook, by the way, Madam President.

    PRESIDENT ARROYO: Thank you.

  163. Bob Beckel’s article makes a ton of really good points. For those of us who don’t want Hillary to be VP, however (I’ll support whatever decision she makes), that item about her having her own power base if she stays in the Senate should be reassuring.

I also agree with Beckel that Hillary ended the primaries a much stronger candidate than when she started. For someone who’s not a natural at this (she prefers being a work horse rather than a show horse) her campaigning skills improved tremendously. I’ve been thinking for a while that no one else would bring half as much to the ticket as she would. I mean, she drawrfs everyone else in comparison. However, I doubt Waffles will pick her because he’s too arrogant to offer it to her.

  164. Did you guys se Bush’s approval rating is 23 percent in the L.A. Times/Bloomberg poll? Talk about sinking to Nixonian levels. I still wonder who the hell the 23 percent are.

  165. Also, if Waffles picks someone other than Hillary, all the MSM’s going to talk about is why she was overlooked. And if he selects another woman, like Claire McCaskill, he’s really screwed.

    &&&&&&&&&&&

Sounds like Bwack is like those annoying phone solicitors interrupting dinner. And he should not be too surprised when the called individuals are brusque, curt, or cut him off:

    @ I was eating dinner
    @ I already gave
@ If you call again, I’m getting the FTC on your @ss

Actually, phone solicitors have an easier job. They might have a product people actually want.

Obama has to face the lion’s den on every phone call. Any of these Hillary supporters are politcally savvy, they know what a poor choice Obama is, they know how badly Hillary got screwed, they know how Bill/Hill got painted as racists. “Now you want me to give you money”.

Or as Obambi put it, “We don’t need the people, we just need the checks”.

I like the way his fundraising has been trending down. Hill’s went up, so did McCain’s. A good candidate inspires confidence and trust. But after seeing more of Obama, the more they see, the less they like.

  167. Also, wasn’t there some speculation Repubs were donating to Waffles to stop Hillary from getting the nomination? Now that she’s supposedly out of the way, there’s no need to subsidize Waffles anymore.

Please read the pledges we posted and comment on them because they seem to represent a growing consensus as to how to go forward. Also please note (and comment) on the apparent strategy to keep Hillary delegates together and have a vote for Hillary or B.O. at the convention. This could be important if Obama keeps his gaffe machine going or if Rezko flips or whatever.

  172. UUUUrgh!!!

    Can people be more clueless?

VAN SUSTEREN (6/24/08): You should see the e-mail I receive. I hear the Democratic Party talk about unity, and there is going to be unity in November. I hear that talk and I read my e-mails think it is almost delusional, because there are so many supporters of Senator Clinton who are absolutely outraged.

PELOSI: What are they outraged about? That she did not win?
