Strike! On The Ides Of March

As we approach our one year anniversary we will be putting on a fresh coat of Pink paint, upgrade our software, fix recent glitches, and revamp what needs revamping. So, readers and commentors may experience possible interruptions on the site while the web elves do their work for the next few days if not weeks.

Our one year anniversary will be on April 19. We’ll have a full evaluation of what Big Pink has accomplished in one year, on that day.

Our very first post stated

Although we feel that Senator Clinton will be the nominee (we thought that way back in March 2006), the race, as always in a democracy, will be an exciting one. We will have lots to say especially with regards to the media and blog coverage of the campaign. We will keep an especially sharp eye on “progressives” or Democrats who repeat Republican propaganda to undermine Hillary or any of our candidates.

We knew that the backstabbers at blogs and the so-called “liberal” media were the ones who savaged Al Gore in 2000 and that these sad sacks with poison pens would be at it again in 2008. We were right.

A few days after our inaugural post we wrote The Media and Nutroots Attack On Hillary Clinton. At the time, we received emails unhappy with our use of the term “Nutroots” to describe these blogging nuts. Here is what we had written:

The Nutroots, are a self-appointed, self-interested, small group of typists who utilize their self-built perches to inflict their delusions on Democrats and true progressives; they like to refer to themselves as the “netroots”, a play on words from the honorable “grassroots”. Both have joined forces to debase the likely Democratic Party nominee: Hillary Clinton.

Check out that early post, it has great information on how Obama copycatted Hillary in order to “puff up his slim resume”.

We also wrote Hillary’s Assassin(s). We quoted this gem of a line

But Clinton has never posted a diary at Daily Kos, which only begs the question: Why would she proactively avoid recreating the success of other recent candidates? And the most likely the answer is, because Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos — aka “Kos” — hates her.

Slowly, slowly, we started making some headway with our argument and the emails turned supportive, albeit “worried”. We also had this to say back in April 2007:

We know we have to keep a sharp eye on these “nutroots” crackpots. We also have to monitor and then do more than merely monitor big media crackpots.

For instance Chris Matthews, whose show when it comes to Democrats in general and Hillary in particular should be renamed “Mudball”.

For instance Arriana Huffington – the political bedhopper formerly associated with Newt Gingrich and his particularly venomous brand of Republicans.

Arriana Huffington of course was a big Republican shill attacking Hillary when Bill Clinton was in the White House. Huffington has not changed her stripes. She is still attacking Democrats and Hillary in particular.

Matthews salivates every time he mentions Hillary. Matthews was the Republican debate circus master the other night. Matthews could not resist goading the Republican candidates to bash President Clinton. Matthews asked whether having Bill Clinton back in the White House was a good idea. We know having Matthews considered a serious political commentator is a bad idea.

These assassins have to be exposed and stopped.

That trip through Memory Lane came because apparently even the valiant Hillary supporters at DailyKooks have given up bringing “business” to that pit of sulphur.

“We are going on strike and taking our writing elsewhere. When and if our beloved community is once more a focal point for Democratic election discussions, we will gladly return.” Alegre has set up “The American Federation of Concerned Bloggers (AFCB)” and has enlisted at least three dozen bloggers.

He writes:

…..Daily Kos and Markos himself no longer adhere to this purpose of electing Democrats. Daily Kos has become an Obama community and discussion of other Democrats is not welcome. We Clinton supporters are continually attacked and even threatened. The atmosphere has become so poisonous that we could do nothing else but take our discussions elsewhere.

It’s common sense – why give your business to a place that does not support you? Why tip the person who stabs you in the back?

Equally gratifying, which we will encourage all our big dollar fundraising friends to participate in, is a fundraisers strike against Howard Dean’s Democratic National Committee.

Pushing to seat the Florida delegates, at least one top Clinton fund-raiser, Paul Cejas, a Miami businessman who has given the Democratic National Committee $63,500 since 2003, has demanded Democratic officials return his 2007 contribution of $28,500, which they have agreed to do.

If you’re not going to count my vote, I’m not going to give you my money,” said Mr. Cejas, who was the United States ambassador to Belgium from 1998 to 2001.

Christopher Korge, a Florida real estate developer who is another top fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, held an event last year in his home that brought in about $140,000 for the national party, which was set aside in a special account for the general election battle in Florida. But he told committee officials this week that if Florida’s delegate conundrum was not settled satisfactorily he would be asking for the money back.

“If we do not resolve this issue,” Mr. Korge said, “I think it’s safe to say there will be a request for a return of $140,000.” [snip]

“My wife and I could max out, and we won’t,” said Ira Leesfield, a Miami lawyer who has given $61,500 to the committee since 1997. “We’re dissatisfied with the D.N.C. not taking the bull by the horns.”

About 250 top fund-raisers for Mrs. Clinton met Wednesday in Washington. Terry McAuliffe, the Clinton campaign’s chairman and a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, encouraged the donors to pick up the phone and call party leaders, as did Mrs. Clinton.

Hooray for these donors. No Donation Without Representation.

Not to forget Pennsylvania, and the “God Damn America” Obama campaign problems RJK1957 tells us that “Kate Smith was a Philadelphia Flyers good luck charm”. Let’s make Kate Smith a Hillary Clinton Pennsylvania good luck charm. Let “God Bless America” ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let it ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania!

And remember:
