Barack Obama and The Suicide Note

Imagine if another candidate was referenced in a suicide note. The crowd from Chicago would have demanded a special prosecutor by now.

Obama named in a suicide note:

On the day he disappeared, Norman Hsu, the disgraced fundraiser for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign, sent letters to friends that recipients viewed as a suicide note, people familiar with the letter have said.

In his letter, Hsu apologized for any embarrassment he had caused recipients of his largesse. In the last four years, he has generated donations of more than $1 million for Democratic politicians across the country.

Hsu’s undoing began two weeks ago with articles raising questions about his fundraising activities in the Wall Street Journal and about a criminal case in his past in The Times. In his letter, said a person familiar with its contents who asked to remain anonymous, Hsu contended that those articles were planted “by a politician who pledged ‘hope and change’ ” — an apparent reference to Sen. Barack Obama, Clinton’s main rival for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“This is a sad and baseless allegation,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said. “We had no knowledge of his past criminal behavior, fugitive status or a potential straw-donor scheme until reading it in the newspaper.”

Notice how the L.A. Times calls Hsu a “disgraced fundraiser for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign” downplaying Hsu’s ties to Obama – even as it appears Obama is the one apparently named in the suicide note. Hsu was not called a fundraiser for the Innocence Project, even though he was a fundraiser for them and sent them the suicide note. No Hsu is tied instead to Hillary Clinton.

Before boarding an eastbound train later that day, Hsu apparently typed the one-page note and sent it by FedEx; it was received last Thursday.

Among the recipients was the Innocence Project, the New York-based organization co-founded by attorneys Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld that seeks to prove the innocence of people in prison. Hsu was one of the organization’s donors.

“We did receive a letter from him, the contents of which I don’t want to divulge out of respect for his privacy,” Eric Ferrero, the organization’s communications director, told The Times on Friday.

Ferrero said the Innocence Project forwarded the letter to Hsu’s defense attorneys in San Francisco and to the California attorney general’s office. Hsu helped sponsor a dinner for the organization in April, Ferrero said, describing him as a “strong and committed supporter.”

Buried in the story is the Obama connection to Hsu:

Until recent weeks, Hsu was a darling of Democratic politicians, donating at least $600,000 himself during the last four years and raising far more than that from associates.

Among the candidates to whom he donated was Obama — a total of $7,000 in 2004 and 2005. Obama recently gave that same amount to charity. Hsu’s associates have given Obama at least $12,600 more.

Was Obama responsible for planting the Hsu stories in the press? We don’t know specifically, but this is typical for the Chicago Obama crowd.

We wrote in Obama’s Dirty Mud Politics

The Barack Obama campaign has been caught peddling dirt against Hillary and Bill Clinton. Obama is desperate to rescue his failing incompetent campaign so he is slinging mud.

No surprise, that is how Chicago Obama has always operated. Obama talks about running a clean campaign but he is a dirt peddler.

We noted then how

According to the New York Times and amplified in a Talking Points Memo post, Obama got caught in his usual anonymous mud-slinging:

“We’ve just obtained an email that shows that the Obama campaign yesterday circulated a negative, and ultimately false, story about Bill Clinton — that he allegedly made money giving a speech on September 11, 2006.”

Bill Burton had his typical answer then too:

“Asked for comment on whether it was appropriate to spread negative stuff about Bill, given that he’s not running in the primary and is popular with primary voters, Obama spokesman Bill Burton declined to directly address the question about Bill, instead saying: “I don’t know why anyone would take umbrage with the circulation of publicly available information.”

The Obama campaign has yet to apologize for this smear against Bill Clinton.

Back then Taylor Marsh smacked Obama for his usual “I don’t know anything about this” attitude::

“When the Obama campaign found out about Clinton’s investments, they decided to do a hit on her regarding one in particular. The thing is, they did it anonymously. Charming, isn’t it. Now this type of hit job isn’t anything new in the political world, but for a candidate that prides himself on being above petty politics, or beyond the smallness of politics, this is just a tad bit disingenuous. So if you want to keep your squeaky clean image intact, this type of move only works if you cover your tracks. The Obama camp blew it and Clinton’s campaign found out. The coup de grace is that, according to Obama’s spokesman, this isn’t a problem at all. The next thing we’ll hear is that Candidate Obama didn’t know anything about it.

Are we being unfair, or is this typical for the Obama Chicago crowd?

Axelrod is known for operating in this gray area, part idealist, part hired muscle. It is difficult to discuss Axelrod in certain circles in Chicago without the matter of the Blair Hull divorce papers coming up. As the 2004 Senate primary neared, it was clear that it was a contest between two people: the millionaire liberal, Hull, who was leading in the polls, and Obama, who had built an impressive grass-roots campaign. About a month before the vote, The Chicago Tribune revealed, near the bottom of a long profile of Hull, that during a divorce proceeding, Hull’s second wife filed for an order of protection. In the following few days, the matter erupted into a full-fledged scandal that ended up destroying the Hull campaign and handing Obama an easy primary victory. The Tribune reporter who wrote the original piece later acknowledged in print that the Obama camp had “worked aggressively behind the scenes” to push the story. But there are those in Chicago who believe that Axelrod had an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story. They note that before signing on with Obama, Axelrod interviewed with Hull. They also point out that Obama’s TV ad campaign started at almost the same time. Axelrod swears up and down that “we had nothing to do with it” and that the campaign’s television ad schedule was long planned. “An aura grows up around you, and people assume everything emanates from you,” he told me.

What about the ad portraying Hillary as the fascist Big Brother? How clean or stinky were Obama’s hands?

Lynn Sweet has documented Obama’s bull regarding the 1984 ad. She wrote “Obama told the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday that his campaign was not damaged by the revelation that the ad maker, Phillip de Vellis, worked for Blue State Digital, the Washington D.C. firm whose co-founder, Joe Rospars is on leave—to work for the Obama campaign handling new media and the Obama web operation. Blue State holds a contract with the Obama campaign to provide technical internet support and oversee its server.”

Asked for his reaction to the links between his campaign and de Vellis, Obama said, “Yeah, very attenuated ties. … Obviously, as I said before, we have no idea who this person was, we have no way of knowing who this person was. He doesn’t work for us and my understanding is that the vendor had a policy of not doing this kind of stuff and as a consequence he has left.”

But that was just another Obama lie, his campaign staff knew De Vellis quite well:

Last year, Obama’s Senate press secretary, Ben LaBolt, was the spokesman for the Brown campaign and roomed with de Vellis in an Ohio apartment. LaBolt only would echo the statement released by the Obama team: “The Obama campaign and its employees had no knowledge and had nothing to do with the creation of the ad.”

How about what we wrote in Unhappy Father’s Day?:

We understand the calculation of why Obama sent the anonymous memo attacking President Clinton (the 42nd president). [N.B. We have heard from several John Edwards supporters that they suspect it was the Obama campaign that sent an anonymous whisper to the media alerting them to the infamous John Edwards $400 haircut.] An interview from February 17, 2007 with Obama’s campaign manager, David Axelrod , called The Politics of Going Negative foreshadowed what the mudboys were really thinking. Its The Audacity of Desperation.

“As anyone not living in a cave surely knows, Obama launched his campaign for president last weekend by deriding the “smallness of our politics” and promising to change the tone of political discourse in America. But with Hillary Clinton leading Obama by an average of nearly 20 points in the six major polls taken so far this year, will Obama be able to close the gap over the coming year without playing hardball? And how can he attack Clinton without looking small himself and undermining the core rationale for his candidacy?”

“I put that question to Obama’s senior strategist, David Axelrod, before Obama’s presidential announcement last Saturday in Springfield.”

“If you have a difference over an issue that’s something different than a gratuitous personal attack,” Axelrod said. “But the real point is the premise that if you can inspire people and if you can give them something real to believe in, you can advance your campaign without tearing everybody else down. And that is our premise and we’re going to try and see if it works. If it does work, then we truly have changed our politics for the better. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t. But that’s the only kind of campaign that he [Obama] really can run.”

“So, I quickly followed up, Obama won’t go negative?”

“I . . . I . . . I don’t . . . I would not say that he won’t draw contrasts where contrasts should be drawn,” Axelrod hedged. “But if you’re asking me, do we have a strategy to tear people down? We don’t. And maybe that’s incredibly naive, and maybe that is not feasible in modern politics. But we believe it is, and we believe it’s important to run a campaign like that.”

Axelrod is the mud-meister who, according to the New York Times “is known for operating in this gray area, part idealist, part hired muscle.” Axelrod is also the one who flung anonymous mud against “the millionaire liberal, Hull, who was leading in the polls…”

In that race Obama’s Axelrod secretly garbage dived into the Hull divorce, a typically nasty legal proceeding. Obama’s mud-slinging worked back then, “In the following few days, the matter erupted into a full-fledged scandal that ended up destroying the Hull campaign and handing Obama an easy primary victory.” Of course the Tribune was printing Obama’s mud. “The Tribune reporter who wrote the original piece later acknowledged in print that the Obama camp had “worked aggressively behind the scenes” to push the story. But there are those in Chicago who believe that Axelrod had an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story. They note that before signing on with Obama, Axelrod interviewed with Hull. They also point out that Obama’s TV ad campaign started at almost the same time.”

With their dirty history, it’s the Obama campaign that has signed their own Suicide Note .

  1. I don’t have time to digest your article yet. But just let you know ‘The Hill’ has an artile: Hsu refund pressures Clinton rivals documenting more shady stuff by Obama and Edwards camps.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) will keep contributions they received from the business associates of two indicted Democratic donors.

Watchdog groups say the two candidates are under increased pressure since rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) announced this week that she would refund $850,000 raised for her by Norman Hsu, who pleaded no contest to a grand larceny charge 15 years ago and has been a fugitive from justice ever since

  2. I think Axlerod is despicable and so is Obama for hiding behind his shenanigans. If Hsu had committed suicide, his blood would have been on their hands.

As for Hillary’s 850K refund, it is getting good play. First, as a savvy move and 2) because it means she is now leading on ethics matters. Obama and Edwards have lost whatever momentum they may have had on that issue.

  3. I have little doubt that this info on Hsu came from Team Obama. They have shown repeatedly that what is good for their goose (Lobbyists $) will be used to attack….other gooses… (?!)

Even though Obama actually has a Rezko help create his entire career (and make it possible to buy his mansion) he and his pretend that its those dirty – rotten Clintons who are “selling out” the Nation and the Lincoln bedroom.

We must fight them. Obama’s communication director, Gibbs, is the slimiest person Ive ever known in 20 years of politics and it says one hell of a lot that Obama and Axelrod (and Daley) hired him.
I agree with Admin that we must stop being namby-pamby (huh?) when we go on the big blogs to fight back against the attacks from Team Obama (which i believe are being orchestrated and channeled thru that vile slug, Robert Gibbs) Whenerver you fight back on those sites, they respond in one of three ways – nasty, nasty attacks – or they ban ya (Ive been banned repeatedly by the Naderites at Kos (for calling them out for being unreconstructed Naderites- or…

they say that you are “hurting your (Hillary) candidate’s cause by”….what? Telling the truth! Screw that!

These sites are very very very small in numbers/ All they do is lie about how many viewers-readers that they have – but the one way they really do have influence is that they are READ by the political media (who actually accept and buy into the stupid and very false idea that these folks are our Party’s base…once again, perception IS reality) So….the idea of allowing these false and aggresive and hurtful attacks on Hillary to go without a vigorous response and answer is plain wrong.

Hell, I spent hours the other night arguing at myDD with some crypto fascists who were trying to ban Areyouready because…why?….Oh…because she was mean….oh boo f-ing whoo!

Team Obama and Gibbs have gone into the mud against Hillary and President Clinton since day 1. The idea that they will change their spots is beyond ridiculous. They have said repeatedly that the Clintons “sold” the Lincoln bedroom. They have written entire memos that they leaked to the press about what vile people President and Senator Clinton are.
They lie, lie, lie about the role of lobbyists and fact cats in their campaign and pretend that it is Hillary that is oh so dirty . (Puleeze! Daley=Axelrod=Obama OK? Got it!?)

I truly expect that the suicide note from Hsu will prove to be accurate. Gibbs (who is after all running ALL their media strategy after all) KNOWS that if the Clintons get elected back to the White House – that he is DONE in Washington Democratic politics. He will do and say anything to save his ass….I know that jerk, believe it!

Years ago, in 92, I worked for Harkin in his campaign for the Presidency. We fought hard – but we never, ever, EVER fought DIRTY against Clinton or the other Dems. That kind of crap started with Bradley in 2000. remember it wasnt the GOP who first brought the word “lie” as a charge against Gore…it was the Bradley folks. Many, many, many of these same people went on to vote for nader in 2000, because they couldnt dirty themselves to support the now hated Gore. Well, guess what folks? A lot and lots of Team Obama staff – high and low – is comprised of former Bradleyites.. The mean spiritedness is the same as the faux and phoney act of purity….oh…hope….oh swelll….they say this even as Fitzgerald is about to try Obama’s best buddy Rezko….these fools… we are NOT GOING TO WIN THEM OVER…. but we must fight back against the long term damage, the script that they are setting for the GOP and the MSM media now…

That is why I LUV this site here. Hillis44 GETS IT!

The fight is about the narrative! The narrative that Hillary and Bill are dirty rotten scoundrels. The narrative that the GOP pushes….the narrative that the msm pushes…and the narrative that the idiots on the blogs are now pushing that we as net fighters MUST fight back against!

If you want to help put the Clintons back in the White House, you should everyday read this site and the daily howler. You should get your info and ammo ready and you should go to these blog sites and FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT with these Naderish-Bradlesque fools…

This sure as hell aint the time to make friends, but it sure is the time to fight the mythos that is developing around Candidate Clinton that is being set up by that ass Gibbs and his cohorts.

  4. I guess if your candidate is double digits behind the leader, your campaign will do some desperate things.

But its not over, we still have the Republicans to think about, because about now thats the only real competition. And as Hillary has said, she’s fought and won against them, so nothing to worry about. In her mind I’m sure she’s already the president, these ‘attacks’ are just minor distractions until inauguration day.

  5. he doesnt seem to be a dope and to him…the Daily Kos is his bread and butter…he doesnt want to be left out in the cold when the Clintons come back to power.

Unlike that mad delusional freak Stoller who actually thinks that HE is the future KING of the Democratic party.

  6. “As for Hillary’s 850K refund, it is getting good play. First, as a savvy move and 2) because it means she is now leading on ethics matters. Obama and Edwards have lost whatever momentum they may have had on that issue.”

I couldn’t agree with you more, OkieAtty.

And if Obama’s people are behind the Hsu stories, Hillary’s response was exactly as it should have been. She turned a potentially big liability into a possible asset by being proactive.

  7. Hello folks,

For all of you who are worried about Oprah, we now have a foxnews poll to give you some pause. The results may surprise you!

First of all, some horserace #, nothing has changed. Hillary 43, Obama 24.

    However, here’s the interesting question:

Does Oprah’s endorsement make you more or less likely to vote for Obama as president?

    Among democrats:
    More likely 18%
    Less likely 30%
    No difference 54%

    Among GOPers
    More likely 9%
    Less likely 39%
    No Difference 52%

    Among Independents
    More likely 7%
    Less likely 30%
    No Difference 60%

Alexro has really turned every gold into shit. LOL.

  8. Kos will do whatever will get his site attention. Attacks on Obama get more people to view his site. Stoller is delusional.

The question remains: why isn’t the media discussing the big Dem political story of the day – Hsu’s suicide attempt and implicating Obama?

If Hsu had implicated Hillary or Bill this would be banner headlines.

  9. I wouldn’t push the Hsu story. I think people now see him as a con so his implicating Obama may actually help Obama. Also, anti-Chinese sentiment is high(totally unfair to chinese americans but due to trade, debt, poison food/toys), so I think people will no bet sympathetic to Hsu. I actually hope Hsu disappears from the headlines, except in reference to Hillary raising the bar in fundraising.

  10. Being an x DC media type myself… I guarantee that they will like to bury this part of the story. they want to portray Hsu as a very, very, VERY bad (China) – man….

and sympathy for him aint in thier plans or best interests…

They also dont want to mess with the narrative that Obama is a nice sweet hope filled soul…..who just mad a silly-willy mistake letting that bad ol’ Rezko buy half his house for him…as Barry said himself…what a “boneheaded move”…oh that poor fella…

They dont want to challenge their script that it is the Clintons who are mean, lowdown and nasty….thats why they let go ignored – the President Clinton memo that “showed” what acorrupt ex Prez he was (put out by team Obama and Gibbs) …or the leak to Drudge about how Clinton had taken blood money on the 5th anniversary of 9/11 from those evil china-men…which also was leaked by Obama and Gibbs…or the various times that they have gone dirty, dirty, dirty…

The narrative is always that its the Clintons who play dirty HARDBALL and its the Obamites that are innocent little lambs…

    BS!

I suggest that somebody post this story at Kos and at my DD….that will fluff up some emotions and maybe lead to a reporter wondering whether this story is true or not.

By the way….my 20 plus years in DC politics and media tells me that it sure as heck is…

  11. Admin, I suggest some kind of celebration when Hillary reaches 50% in the polls.

Maybe a wake for the competition? A review of Hillary’s videos? How about a brief comment on Hillary’s most likely Republican candidates and how they’d attack/debate Hillary?

Because, without some really major incident, it looks like Hillary’s got it all wrapped up (even Rove thinks so)!

  12. Psymac,

I want to urge some caution here. No vote has been cast, it’s far from ‘wrapped up’. Let’s prepare for the bumps instead of some premature celebration.

  13. Admin, several reactions. First, that Burton conceded the reference is to Obama is interesting. Second, that Obama has planted stories against other candidates before is also interesting. Third, there is no apparent motive for Hsui to lie about this-the only question is his state of mind. Fourth, there is a level of nuance and evasion in the responses of the Obama campaign that people in general and primary voters in particular should find deeply troubling. Fifth, if these concerns are well placed, then the name of the game for Obama is plausible deniability–another thing he learned from the Ripublicans.

  14. MJ, the Hsu story is not going to go away as long as certain people and Big Media profit from the story.

We need to push the Hsu story. Running away from it emboldens people like Axelrod and Gibbs. Everytime the mention of Hsu shows up in the media we need to remind them that Hsu implicated Obama’s dirty politics in his suicide note. That is the only way to stop the attacks on Hillary utilizing Hsu.

Obama kept quiet in public about Hsu, but busy behind the scenes pushing this story. Running away from Hsu and Obama type tactics is the way to lose.

  15. Wbboei, you got it. Planting rumors is how Obama has always run his campaigns. Nothing new here. There is a long history of his dirty dealing which we have partly documented.

Obama usually will blame his staff first, then pretend he is an innocent, then cite his public efforts to pass “good” legislation, then lie, then accuse whoever calls him on his lies as “old politics”.

The “Big Brother” ad was the first attempt to try his typical tricks on a presidential level. That blew up in his face. The second big attempt was the anonymous memos and that blew up in his face.

This Hsu story can’t be allowed to disappear like those other stories did. One thing though, those previous dirty tricks by Obama disappeared but Big Media learned that Obama was saying one thing in public and doing something else in private. That is when Big Media turned on him.

  16. admin,

I partially agree with you. Whenever there’s story about Hsu and Clinton connection, we need to push Hsu-Obama story AND the other Obama-thugs stories. It’s already been done on myDD on a couple of occasions.

I’m glad you’re providing the ammunition for us to aggressively push back.

However, if nobody brings this up, I don’t believe it’s in our best interest to push this story. Hsu has been discredited, so it’s a bit difficult to use his words to do the work.

I agree with your principle that we need to be ready.

  17. Hey folks – I just reposted this post over at Kos – and I have ONCE AGAIN been BANNED in record time!

I even took out the direct accusations against Obama out – and geared thenm towards Gibbs – but within twenty minutes the Obama “trusted user” crypto fascists banned me and Im sure are gonna try to delete said post.

If anyone here has a pass at Kos – I suggest you go there and try to save this important message.

Which simply is that its Team Obama that has been playing in the mud – not the faux prince of nice….

  18. dem dem,

I suggest you sign an account to dailykos on a daily basis. So whenever you’re banned, you can always do another diary the next day!!

  19. dem dem, daily kooks is a lost cause. mydd is the best bet. admin, i just got your emails. i will pay more attention to your headline posts before i email similar articles. great news in all around.

  20. Sorry to have missed the post Dem Dem.

The Obama people for sure don’t want the suicide story to even be discussed. They know how deadly this story is. It ties Obama up in a history of planting stories against their opponents and involves a potential death.

Other than the L.A. Times and here the story has vanished. Think about that. An object of many front page media stories (Hsu) sends a suicide note which mentions a top presidential nomination candidates as a culprit – and Big Media and the Big Blogs do not mention the story.

Where is TPM on this? Where is Politico? Huffington Post? DailyKooks? MyDud? Political Wire? Same old, same old.

  21. Compelling, post, admin, per usual.

The Kos front-page Obama-bashing thread is pretty hilarious at the moment.

  22. Obama is a huge sleaze ball. I can’t even believe that so many idiots are buying his crap. Reminds me of some of the inept sleazes I worked with in Tacoma city government!?? The Kooks still think he’s some kind of savior. I am so pissed that CNN kept showing that picture with Hillary and HSU and of course so did Huffpost.

  23. Check this out. Former Giuliani aide backs Hillary, lol. (via the New York Post)

The campaign manager for Rudy Giuliani’s successful mayoral re-election has defected and is now supporting Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for president, The Post has learned.

“I’m not voting for Rudy. I’m supporting Hillary Clinton. I’m an ‘ambassador’ for Hillary,” said Fran Reiter, who also served as deputy mayor during Giuliani’s first term.

Reiter was a leader in the Liberal Party whose votes helped Republican Giuliani defeat Democratic incumbent David Dinkins by a razor-thin margin to become mayor in 1993.

Reiter still says Giuliani was a “great mayor” who “fundamentally changed” New York City for the better and was “terrific to work for.”

She cited his administration’s success in cutting crime, improving the quality of life and bolstering the business climate by slashing taxes.

But Reiter – who is now a registered Democrat – complained he has fundamentally shifted his positions on key social issues like abortion and gun control and called his health-care plan “appalling.”

“He took a political turn to the right – clearly. It’s a much more ideological agenda,” Reiter said. “The progressive views he took he’s backed away from.”

Reiter said Clinton is more in sync with her positions on national security, social issues and health care.

“I have found Senator Clinton to be a thoughtful, moderate person,” Reiter said.

  24. The MSM is NOT gonna pick up this story unless and until one breaks from the herd and researches it and/or finds out that Obam and Gibbs did leak this to the WSJ. They are not brave folks ya know and they already have their script about Hsu and noone wants to be the first to mess with that hallowed thing…the press narrative.

Hells bells, if you wonder why the liberal media wont write about this I suggest you go spend a couple of freuitful and fun (and maddening) hours over at the Daily Howler to see what thats all about.

As to Kos. I dont accept the right of bully boy fan boy fascists over there to ban me and my right to my first amendment rights. Especially when Markos is always trying to get every possible cent of dem and dem leaning money and support that he can…..so…. I just re-register whenever they ban me with a new gmail account….since with gmail – they have a thing that says you have 100 possible accounts to give away…so I keep giving them to me….and AI have been banned 4 or 5 times now.

Again, I dont think these sites really matter internally to the elections or the dem party….BUT I do believe trhat the political media visists them all the time and actually believes that these bloviators are big voices in the natl demn party (right – only a moron like stoller would believe that!)…so thats why its worth going back there – over and over and over – even though it is quite annoying getting called an idiot or nu by a bunch of nutty idiots…

if you know what I mean!

But yes, myDD is more polite though they are still trying to ban areyouready…which pisses me off…

  25. MSNBC is reporting the suicide story BUT NOT MENTIONING OBAMA. The good news is that for once they are calling Hsu “the disgraced Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu” and not mentioning Hillary (this is what we mean when we say this story breaks the narrative Big Media wants to tie Hillary to Hsu. This is overall a good story that does not bash Hillary. This is the lesson folks: the best defense is a good offense – the sooner Democrats and Hillary supporters learn this lesson, the better):

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20754524/

Imagine, MSNBC mentions a suicide note but leaves out the big item: Obama.

Fox N_ews mentions the suicide note, and lots of Hillary mentions, but no Obama mention. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296708,00.html

Any other mentions of Hsu’s suicide note mentioning Obama on blogs or news outlets?

  26. by the way the poll i put up at kosabout this hsu story – says that 40% or so believe it likely that team obama did drop the dime on husu to hurt hillary.

Thats the key there, most of the reasonable people there never post or comment – but they will vote!

Which is why I got kicked off at first – cause I kept putting up polls that showed that a majority thought that naderites should be banned from the dailykos…and since it seems that many of the loser “trusted users” there are unreconstructed naderite idiots – they banned my butt!

  28. http://weblogs.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/blog/2007/09/opie_had_a_tough_comment_for_o.html

More from BO, and a great kid – fun story:

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – As Sen. Barack Obama sought to differentiate himself from the rest of the Democratic field today on the issue of the Iraq war, a seven-year-old in the audience evened the playing field.

During an question-and-answer session in a city park here, young Clayton Melvin agreed with Obama that the war should end now.

“I think we should end this war,” said Clayton, a second-grader from nearby DeWitt, Iowa.

    So far, so good.

“I agree,” Obama said. “That’s a good comment.”

Then Clayton continued. “I’m not just going to wait for president,” he said.

“You don’t want to just wait for President Bush,” Obama echoed. “We need to end it now…I agree.”

Then Clayton moved into a topic that left Obama sputtering a bit.

“And I agree Hillary wants to,” Clayton said, referring to Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.

“Ah, well, yeah,” Obama responded, the audience laughing. “Well there you go.”

As the laughter died down, Obama got back on message. “I think that we want to get everybody on board to bring this war to a close,” he said.

Obama made clear that he held no ill will toward the boy, even after his less-than-polite comment.

“You ever seen Mayberry?” Obama asked. “You look just like Opie…He’s a cute kid. That’s a good thing.”

  29. HG – interesting. We checked Huffington Post earlier and they had a Hsu article but it only mentioned a suicide note, nothing on Obama and it was like the post you found – a reprint of the LA Times article.

The new one at though it is only a reprint of the LA Times at least mentions the Obama connection.

We changed the title of our article to mention Obama. That got picked up by Google and Google alerts. We are not going to let them ignore this story.

  30. There is a post on DailyKooks right now called: “I Hate Hillary!” http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/13/163253/895

Hillary supporters who attack other Hillary supporters like Berkeley Vox and who think these mad dogs should be appeased take note.

Update: As an Obama supporter wrote in the comments in the “I Hate Hillary” post: “a site dedicated to electing Democrats should welcome an open discussion of the potential pitfalls of having certain candidates win the nomination, particularly when field is crowded and there appear to be better options available. What don’t you understand about this?”

Hillary supporters who blame Hillary supporters need to learn from this.

  31. admin,

politico mentioned briefly about Hus-Obama link….

Hsu seems to have tried to kill himself, and blamed Obama for exposing him — something Obama’s spokesman denies. (Would it be a bad thing to have done it?)

  32. Kostner, that is why I’m not sure why the Hsu suicide story is helpful, because they will just say he exposed a crook, isn;t that a good thing?

  33. Admin i agree – The Kooks are just shameless, and need to be reckoned with. Alegre is on there now being so nice to these trolls, and she is very informative and patient. But I think we need a bit of hard hitting reality to introduce there…enough of the namby pamby crap. We seem to think we have to spoon feed these idiots, and take their crap. i don’t really think it’s working.

  34. hi,

Bloggers are in a bubble. The majority of people don’t get campaign information from internet. A SC poll shows the following

What is your primary source for information about candidates for public office? Is it political commercials, network television news, cable television news, newspapers, the internet, talking with friends or family, or something else?

    Cable News
    34.9

    Newspapers
    18.7

    Network News
    18.0

    Internet
    10.0

    Something Else
    7.6

    Radio
    4.0

    Friends or Family
    3.3

    Commercials
    1.6

    Don’t Know/Refused
    1.6

10% is pretty pathetic, and I can guarantee you most of them do not go to dailykooks…

  35. Kostner…I think about .2% got to Kooks…and with whack jobs like Anne Frank over there we can see what demographic visits there the most. The insane demographic. Not sure that’s the group we’re going for?

  36. KitforHill,

Appeasement never works. The same people who tolerate “I Hate Hillary” diaries and merging of Hillary’s name with Hilter will shamelessly denounce Berkeley Vox and Dem Dem for pointing out some very simple facts about Obama. The Hillary supporters who want to be above the battle and “better than they are” empower the “I Hate Hillary” crowd.

The best defense is a good offense. Everytime Obama or Edwards or Big Media or Big Blogs mention Hsu or fundraising we need to bring up the suicide letter and Obama’s technique of planting stories in the press. The notion that Obama was trying to expose a bad person and therefore he is to be commended is laugable. Obama took money from Hsu too. But Obama, typical for him, publicly kept quiet about Hsu while secretly planting stories.

Why didn’t Obama make a public statement instead of planting stories anonymously as Hsu in his suicide letter states? Because Obama took Hsu money too and Obama’s history is to say one thing and do another.

Hillary supporters need to preempt the Hsu stories, that will otherwise never stop, by forcing an examination of Obama’s ties too. If Big Blogs and hypocrites like Josh Marshall and TPM (who have a big Hsu story today that does not mention Obama) are forced to talk about Obama and Hsu everytime they mention Hillary and Hsu they will stop talking about Hsu altogether.

  37. mj,

It’s very bad for OBOMBA because of the way he exposed it — to WSJ!

The way he exposed it hurts the Dems. If he cares about the Democratic Party, he would warn the Dems first about this Hsu person so they can refund the monies quickly. He should then inform the authorities, not the Wall Street Journal!

If this is proven to be correct, his future with the Dem Party is finished.

He cared only about himself. He threw the Dems under the bus over and over again. A Dem POTUS is the leader of the Dem party. No Democrat in his/her right mind want such a turncoat as the leader of the party!

  38. Good point HG.

When Obama did his typical anonymous memo routines attack Bill Clinton he leaked to right wing DrudgeReport. If he in fact did this leak attack on Hsu to hurt Hillary, this time he used the Wall Street Journal.

    good catch.

  39. Gibbs this season has leaked to Polyico and drudge – it sure isnt shocking that he would go to th wsh with this story. He knew they would luv the china – man xenophobic slant of the story.

Remember, no one is lower then gibbs…

and realize that i was banned from kos today within 20 minutes of posting a shorter version of hill iss 44s post today…

cursed, screamed at, insulted, told i was crazy, a law breaker, a republican, a paid shill amongst other things…

these people at Kos – these Naderite morons – dont need to be “won over” – they need to be FOUGHT!

Come on folks – get a gmail account (cause they will gang up and ban uou) and lets fight back!

  40. Dem Dem

    well said

Don’t forget Gibbs’ attack on Howard Dean – something Obama supporters don’t like to talk about either.

For those of us anticipating the negative attacks on Hillary that were coming from Obama as Hillary continues to climb in the polls – we now have an example of what Obama will do.

Here is the Gibbs ad against Howard Dean:

  41. There’s a news story on yahoo’s front page about Giuliani attacking Hillary for impugning Gen. P.’s integrity. He’s only doing this to distract from Fred Thompson closing in on him, lol.

  42. well I mentioned that at Kos – but I was banned before I could respond to how they blamed that ad on Bill Clinton and the DLC! HA!

I have such unmeasurable contempt for those Naderite losers over there!

It amazes me that these pretend progs (pinos – thank you very much) will ban someone’s opinion that they dont agree with.

Hell, I know that theyre all misinformed fanboys (and Ive been working in this stuff for two decades now) but I would never ever ever EVER try to silence the voice of a fellow dem…

But the key is – the full time losers who live over there – are almost ALL Naderites! Ironic huh?

AnD THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE WILL DEAL WITH – AFTER WE WIN BACK THE wh.

pERSONALLY, iVE ALREADY MADE IT MY MISSION TO NAIL STOLLERS HIDE TO THE WALL.

    OOPS! CAPS …sorry

  43. Did you guys see this on politico? What do you think?

In a concession to Republicans, House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) has promised to ask the National Archives for documents relating to President Bill Clinton’s Office of Political Affairs.

As a result, a Democratic push to investigate the activities of former White House senior adviser Karl Rove and other aides to President Bush could mean fresh scrutiny and publicity for long-forgotten meetings and presentations during the Clinton administration.

In a letter this week, Waxman suggested Republicans satisfy their curiosity by reexamining what he estimates are more than 2 million pages of documents about the Clinton White House and the Democratic National Committee that House investigators amassed in the 1990s.

The extraordinary search was prompted by revelations that Bush aides have conducted political briefings for GOP appointees at federal agencies before big elections. Democrats have complained that the sessions could violate the Hatch Act, which is designed to insulate federal employees from political pressure.

The broadening inquiry, which Republicans contend will take the committee down unpredictable avenues, could be a headache for the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), who is trying to push a message of change amid unwanted reminders of her husband’s administration, including a scandal centered on one of her biggest financial supporters.

  44. Doing our best to avoid actually looking at Bush –

Maybe later we can have a report from those who were on the Hillary conference call.

  45. New poll of African American voters in SC:

A Winthrop-ETV poll of black South Carolinians, released Thursday night, shows U.S. Sens. Barack Obama of Illinois narrowly leading Hillary Clinton of New York — by 35.4 percent to 30.7 percent — among all African Americans surveyed who say they will vote. However, more than a third of black women said they were undecided about who to vote for in the state’s Jan. 29 Democratic presidential primary.

Obama needs to win black voters by a much bigger margin than that to win SC.

  46. Hi admin,

Can you put on the youtube link to the anti-Hillary ad? I’d like to collect these things to expose Team Obama’s dirty history.

‘What about the ad portraying Hillary as the fascist Big Brother’…

  47. Thanks. Will check that SC poll later for margin of error.

BTW, for stick their heads in the sand Democrats, DrudgeReport has a picture of Hsu and 3 stories under the picture. One of them is “Alleges Obama Pushed Dirt”.

The Denver Post article mentions Obama (first), Hillary and Mark Udall have received money from Hsu, buried in the last short paragraph of the article. No special focus on Hillary.
    http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_6884611

The focus of this story is going – to Obama.

  48. Kostner here is the dirty Big Brother ad that trys to make Hillary look like a fascist. The ad was a failure, first of all because Hillary looks great in the ad (unintentionally), and because the links to the Obama campaign we posted in the article were exposed.

    URL:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h3G-lMZxjo

Again, the Obama Communications director Robert Gibbs’ anti-Dean ad (the ad ironically that says Dean cannot be president because he does not have enough experience to be president) which Obama people don’t want to talk about and which very much resembles the Big Brother ad in content.

  49. admin,

That’s great. These videos are very powerful. They’ll be used repeatedly to remind people what a bunch of crooks Obama is surrounded with…

  50. We’ll probably be posting Part II of Obama’s Mob after midnight. Here is a reminder of Part I and the quote from the L.A. Times article (more in Part II)

    http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamaprofile8sep08,1,7542776,full.story

And no, we did not write this, the L.A. Times did:

“He managed to burnish a reformer’s reputation while swimming in the muddy waters of special-interest- infested state politics.

He worked on a nice-guy image while practicing the hardball and brawling tactics of Chicago-style politics.

Now, promoting himself as a fresh face on the national political stage, proclaiming his distance from lobbyists and the Washington culture of special interests, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has to contend with his own history.

From Chicago to Springfield, his past is filled with decidedly old-school political tactics – a history of befriending powerful local elders, assisting benefactors and special interests, and neutralizing rivals.

Obama may be packaged as something new among presidential contenders, but in this town where politics is played like a blood sport he fit right in.”

  51. Hillary’s statement on Bush’s speech:

“Regrettably, the President did not seize the opportunity tonight to offer the American people a candid assessment of the challenges that we continue to face in Iraq, or offer a change in course to his failing strategy. Instead, he portrayed an unavoidable reduction in U.S. troops to pre-surge levels as a marker of progress. Redeploying over the next year five of the twenty combat brigades currently deployed in Iraq will merely bring our total number of troops back to the same level that existed before the President announced his escalation in January of this year. As was discussed during General Petraeus’s testimony this week, troop levels in Iraq must decrease by this amount regardless, in order to avoid extending Army deployments beyond 15 months and straining our military even further than it already is.

What the President told the American people tonight is that one year from now, there will be the same number of troops in Iraq as there were one year ago. That is simply too little too late, and unacceptable to this Congress and the American people who have made clear their strong desire to bring our brave troops home.

The Commander-in-Chief has the authority to issue the order to greatly accelerate the redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq, and to bring so many more of our troops home so much faster. They have done everything we have asked of them and more, but are now stuck in the middle of a civil war. I continue to implore the President to change course, bring our troops home faster, and end this war responsibly as soon as possible.”

  52. BTW, what do you think will happen if Gore endorses Obama? It appears it’s going to be someone other than Hillary, not that that surprises me. Of course, his endorsement of Dean in ’04 didn’t exactly work, lol.

  53. Dem dem, I’ve been there like you on Kooks, and bashed, trashed, called everything under the sun and a shill…for voicing an opinion and being direct. I have to say I was also shushed by a few Hillary supporters some of who post here. I know they were well intentioned, but i resented it. I was told to go in and we have to win them over and be better than them. Frankly I think that’s a bunch of shit. I don’t see how we win any points by not being direct and like you said preempting the Hsu story and shedding light on Obama’s role, and the videos you guys linked. I find Hill supporters there avoiding talking about Rezko, or any of the other crap. But i think we need more fighters. We get shit on anyway, we are told we’re think we’re better than they are etc now. It’s not like they are going to suddenly play nice. Enough of the namby pamby BS…time to fight.

  54. I agree w/ HG.

Let’s not forget that Hsu raised $2mill for Dems. There’s a long line of Dems checking their books right now.

Dems won ’06 in part on ‘culture of corruption’ — they can’t afford this. Perhaps this is why Biden was so pissy. Yes, if the Obama campaign had anything to do with this, he’s finished, period.

He wasn’t concerned when he took Hsu’s help. If perhaps he found out later that something was fishy, then the right thing would have been for the Dems to handle it internally and clean it up w/o the media glare.

The reason I find it at least *plausible* that Team Obama may have pulled this stunt — Hsu was supposed to be helping Quincy Jones/Magic Johnson w/ the fundraiser later this month.

  55. kitforhill,

I agree. But i’m giving up on dailykooks. They have this notorious ‘mob rule’, and you can easily get banned by mobs…

myDD is better. All Hillary supporters there are very aggressive.

    Paula,
Gore is not going to endorse Obama, you can’t take this to the bank. He’ll likely endorse Edwards…

  56. I can’t wait to hear Hillary’s healthcare proposal Monday. I’m nervous for her. The crazies on both sides will go nuts, you watch. On the left, they’ll say her plan is a give away to insurers and on the right they will say it is socialized medicine. I hope her plan is a good one, something like the French plan or one that could lead to medicare for all. She has not gotten the proper credit for her roll in the current SCHIP expansion. Her proposal got the ball rolling in Congress and passed in the House. It’s the most expansive plan proposed to Congress and would have made eligible for federal funds for health coverage most young people 25 and younger. But for whatever reason, the press treats Obama like he and her are on equal footing in regards to SCHIP. I had to email two NY Times authors to remind them Hillary actually proposed an amendment and that her amendment lead the way for others. Well, fingers crossed her plan is the good one we need.

  57. Folks –

first off dont buy into the msm – blog mythos that there is a feud between Al Gore and the Clintons. The Daily Howler was a guest of big Al’s at the hearing on global warming and he said that the looks and anger that matthews and the rest of the press tribe described between them was complete bs. He said he watched as the two of them (Gore and Hill had a friendly and smiley convo)

Besides that I believe understands that a Clinton “restoration” would be best for the world – big Al aint no fool – he sure as heck knows who is gonna run the table during the primaries. Personally, I expect him to endorse Hill after SC.

Plus, we must fight the scripting and narrative being created at Kos. yes, i know it sucks going there and being attacked and insulted – but that is the site that the media looks at – and its best just to hit and run (post and go) then it is to stick around for an hour as the jerks there fry and attack ya…. but be prepared to be banned – and prepare to have to re -register under a new name. (They hate that more then anything – and that alone makes it kinda fun!) but Kos has hundreds (yes just hundreds of people there at any time – while myDD sometimes seems to have only a very small few…. Just look at it as placing an editorial. Team Clinton cant fight back against these attacls, because the msm and the blog machine and the gop will talk about the Clinton attack machine (remember the Clinton team response to Geffen and Gibbs saying that the Clintons were huge liars AND sold out the Lincoln bedroom – the nexus of these groups made it clear that team Clinton would NOT be allowed to defend itself in these primaries against clean, pure, hopeful Obama)….but we CAN!

Who gives a whoot if we piss off “the hundreds”{ of naderite haters at Kos? We must fight them as they spread the right wing script about the Clintons beingg corrupt and the venom that flows with that.

We owe this to the quiet non posting democrats who go to these sites just because they want to be involved.

Do it for them. Fight those naderite fakers pinos and bullies and full time kossacks and only part time democrats – before they –

    do it to us again.

    2000. Never forget! Never forgive!

(Unless they say theyre sorry and will never do it again – but those kind of people arent the kind of free speech banning kos non Dem losers we’re talking ’bout are they?)

  58. MJ, did the New York Times acknowlege your emails and set the record straight, to preserve their journalistic integrity?

  59. If Obama was behind it, how would Hsu have known that? Just curious.

That’s a good question. It could just be the ramblings of someone on the edge. OTOH, when the press started investigating, someone may have asked a question/revealed info that smelled like inside info.

I find the timing interesting — that this blows up right before Hillary’s major fundraiser that involved Hsu.

If you think about it, why did the WSJ decide to investigate the Paws, specifically? The list of people who would know the Hsu-Paw connection is rather small (various campaigns, one of them being Obama’s via Hopefund).

    To me this is 50:50

  60. dem,

I agree with you in principal, but I got frustrated and impatient since it took 7 seven to get the registration effective on dailykooks.

  61. Hi admin,

Another shocking news, can you verify this: Orlando Jones 52, once served as the elder Stroger’s chief of staff, and also worked for indicted political fundraiser Tony Rezko???

    He is dead!!

CHICAGO Orlando Jones, the godson of former Cook County Board President John Stroger and an insider in county politics, has been found dead on a Michigan beach from what authorities say is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Cook County political insider was found Wednesday night, just as a corruption inquiry targeting him was heating up.

Police found the body of Orlando Jones on a beach in Union Pier, Mich. As CBS 2’s Rafael Romo reports, Jones had close ties to the Stroger family.

The beach access road he was found on is not far from a beach property he owned in the area and his car was found near the body.

“All indications are that this was a self-inflicted gunshot wound and we believe from all indications that it is a suicide,” said Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Samuel Harris.

Jones was involved for decades in Cook County government.

In 1993 he was praising the county’s financial rescue of a hospital.

“What county government did is took a dust rag, shine, put a little polish to it and brought back to life for the community,” he said.

Jones rose to the level of chief of staff for former president John Stroger, who was his godfather.

“I’m aware that he just took one of his sons to college,” said Cook County Commissioner Michael Quigley. “I can’t get beyond that: the tragedy and the pain they must be feeling.”

Jones left his position in county government to create a lobbying firm in association with Tony Rezko, who has been indicted on fraud charges.

Recent reports from Las Vegas also claim that he was the target of a federal investigation stemming from a hospital deal that he negotiated.

Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica says Jones’ untimely death, while firstly is a human tragedy, also raises many questions about the Cook County president’s office.

“Some of these matters Jones was involved in that are currently being investigated by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office are reaching to the highest level of county government,” Peraica said.

The Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday published an article about Jones, who has worked for the past several years as a lobbyist and consultant, pointing out that he was earning a six-figure “referral fee” every year from the financial firm William Blair & Company, for helping steer state pensions to the firm.

The paper says he was to make $224,000 this year, for an introduction made in 2004.

The Sun-Times said Jones had told them he had done nothing illicit.

Jones was also mentioned in an investigation into possible financial crimes at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, by Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS-TV.

An article on KLAS’ Web site said hospital chief Lacy Thomas, who had once headed the former Cook County Hospital, had given contracts to politically-connected Chicago companies rather than putting them out to bid, among them Jones. KLAS reported that Jones’ “business dealings in (Chicago) are already under law enforcement scrutiny.”

Companies were allegedly paid for work they did not do, KLAS said. Jones stood to be charged with fraud, theft and bribery in the case, KLAS reported.

In a statement, current Cook County Board President Todd Stroger called Jones’ death “an untimely and unfortunate loss for those who knew and loved him, and he will be missed. Our prayers go out to his wife, Cerrelda, and his two sons.”

Cook County President Todd Stroger declined CBS 2’s request for an interview.

CBS 2’s Rafael Romo contributed to this report.

  62. googled. found this!!

The original investors in Tony Rezko’s big South Loop deal

    September 13, 2007
Orlando Jones was among investors in a Tony Rezko real estate venture in 2003, records show. Rezko wanted to develop 62 acres of prime land at Roosevelt and Clark — for which his company, Rezmar Corp., sought $140 million in city tax subsidies.

The deal stalled when Mayor Daley’s administration accused Rezko of minority-owned-business fraud. But most investors apparently recouped their money after Rezko sold the site in late 2005.

Here is a previously undisclosed list of the investment groups for the project (in most cases, City Hall couldn’t find records identifying the groups’ investors):

  63. mj . . . then perhaps they should modify their mastehead to read “all the news that is fit to print–so long as it conforms to our distorted narrative”.

  64. Kostner – I know Kooks is frustrating, but I think it is a better site and more viewed. MyDD isn’t a great site, although you can be more direct there and not get banned. There are more aggressive Hill fans there. There’s more action on Kos so there’s the rub. But in reality I don’t think Kos will have much of an impact on the race in the end anyway. They are pretty marginal whackos for the most part.

  65. A little fun for everyone;

There’s this site, called “Nobody likes Hillary Clinton”, run by a guy named Michael Kraft (and he IS cheesy) Where he bashes Hillary, even selling tshirts and the like. I have been his personal nemesis, to the point where, today he has BLOCKED his site to comment!

    here is the link;
