Hillary Clinton And The Order Of The Phoenix

Summer’s heat is baking the nation. The sun is relentless. Green grass turns brown. Trees droop. Throats get thirsty. Minds wander.

Senator Barack Obama (D-Rezko) must be feeling the heat.

Here’s what the distracted dining Senator said yesterday: “You know, I know that the media is obsessed with the Clintons…”

Talk about a lack of self awareness. Media obsession? This from a first term Senator whose picture is plastered this week on the cover of a high circulation national news magazine (Newsweek, not to mention the cover of Mother Jones magazine). This from a Senator who, with only 2 insignificant years in the U.S. Senate, has decided to run for the highest office in the land? As Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times aptly noted, in a chilly aside sure to merit her a call from Obama’s Chicago thugs operatives, “During the Gregory interview, Obama–whose presidential candidacy was made possible because of massive media coverage….”

We could somewhat understand if John Edwards, or Bill Richardson, or Chris Dodd or any of the other men running against Hillary uttered a complaint about the media being ‘obsessed’ with Hillary. After all, these guys have so unfairly disappeared from Big Media coverage that we would not be surprised to see their free media comprised solely of pictures on the side of milk cartons, where pictures of missing children can generally be found. But Obama? Ubiquitous Obama? Obama of the GQ Magazine cover? Obama of this month’s, ahem, Vanity Fair cover? What is he smoking?

Aside from the heat, and its disastrous effects on brain functions, Obama clearly is responding to the clamor of his rabid Big Blog supporters, who want him to ‘attack’ Hillary. These supporters are clutching at excuses for Obama’s collapse in the polls. They are particularly shocked that American voters are not impressed with Obama’s 2nd quarter dollar harvesting, as reflected in the very latest polls. Fear has entered the equation with publication of a new Illinois state poll which has Hillary a scant 4 points behind Obama in his home state.

To be sure “Hillary Clinton is the most asked-about woman of all time.”

As of July 8, 2007, there have been 2,377 public polling questions that include the name “Hillary Clinton” or “Hillary Rodham Clinton” (plus six more where “Hillary” was misspelled “Hilary”). That’s according to the University of Connecticut’s Roper Center iPoll database, which has archived public poll questions and answers since the early days of scientific polling in the 1930s.

The press coverage and the poll questions have not been friendly for much of Hillary’s time fighting for Americans. “Questions about Hillary Clinton were much more pointed, even early in her husband’s 1992 campaign.” Trying to get things done is a sure way to become unpopular. The way to remain popular is to NOT take positions. To vote ‘Present’ instead of ‘Yea’ or ‘Nay’ will grease your rise. But that has not been Hillary’s way. She fights — for us.

Those early negative assessments of Mrs. Clinton as a possible president have been replaced by generally positive ones today β€” for nine of the past 10 years, she has ranked as the country’s most admired woman (losing to Laura Bush only in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks). And Americans, especially Democrats, think she has the right stuff to be president. According to a May ABC News/Washington Post poll, she led Barack Obama and John Edwards as the candidate with “the best experience to be president.” Sixty-six percent of Democrats chose Clinton, 19 percent Edwards, and 9 percent Obama. In a January CBS News Poll, 57 percent of all adults said they thought Hillary Clinton “has the right kind of experience to be a good president.” Thirty-four percent disagreed.

What accounts for Hillary’s phoenix like rise? No doubt a certain Big Blog owner whose current political website was originally an astrological website, will tell you that Hillary is a Scorpio. And, “Scorpio is associated with the mythical phoenix rising from the ashes.”

But there is probably a more down to earth reason for Hillary’s rise in the polls. After so many years of fighting for us, Democrats and Independents, are now fighting for Hillary.

In the most recent Washington Post-ABC poll, the former senator from North Carolina was trounced by Senator Hillary Clinton, Democrat of New York, among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents with household incomes below $20,000. Clinton had the support of 55 percent; Senator Barack Obama, Democrat of Illinois, drew 20 percent; and Edwards 10 percent.

Meanwhile, a new poll focusing on political independents, conducted by The Post, the Kaiser Family Foundation, and Harvard University, indicated this muted support among low-income voters would carry over to the general election. Forty percent of independents from households earning less than $20,000 said there is no chance that they would back him in November 2008 if he were the Democratic nominee. Among these independents, Obama had the lowest “reject rate”; 22 percent said they definitely would not vote for him.

Forget Harry. It’s Hillary And The Order Of The Phoenix.

  1. I sincerely believe Obama thought IF he raised a stellar amount of money this last quarter, the bump would put him back within a few points of Hillary. Now that he’s seen $$$$ is not a cure for a lack of substance, he is vacant and LOST!

The above interview with Gregory sounds like he is talking to himself, hoping for some insightful input from Gregory to kick start his flagging campaign. The sprint horse with 6 furlongs of experience is quickly tiring, knowing he has more than a mile and a quarter to go. He knows he can’t make it and is searching for a breather….any kind of breather to relieve him for the strain of Hillary’s bold, demanding pace.

Doesn’t Obama realize he is up against the class of the field? The filly who’s been training for this time longer than his two feet have walked the earth, training for the race of her life?

Check her out, Obama- Hillary has paced herself throughout the last 6 mos. She’s barely broken a sweat. Her breathing is normal, her voice modulated, her stamina intact. She’s just breezing the breeze doing what she does naturally; running to WIN!

  2. Mrs. Smith, You make a very good point about Obama’s fundraising. Hillary raised enough to do what she needs to do, and that’s all that matters. And when you bring in all that money, as Obama did, expectations increase, too, and people may begin to start wondering why the money isn’t delivering more results.

Also, I agree with you totally about Hillary pacing herself. And I love your filly metaphor!

  3. Not sure why but i can’ view the right side.

But let you know two polls have come out today. In an Ohio Q-poll, Hillary is in commanding lead among democrats, and beats all GOP contenders for the first time.

In rasmussen poll, Hillary beat Rudy and widens her lead over McCain. Her favorability has now increased to 52:46. Rudy’s favorability has down to 53:41. Mydd has a diary on this poll.

  4. i was on mydd earlier and i noticed the anti-hillary forces are for a change not dismissing the poll as “the polls don’t matter”rantings. i guess they have no choice to admit hillary is running a strong run so far and have plenty of good supporters like us. the nutroots got to temp down their rabid angry hatred and discuss the issues in a rational manner rather than trying to tear down hillary. make the case for their guy.

  5. This is kind of off the subject, but where did that Pulsar Research poll for Time magazine come from? I haven’t seen it anywhere else, including Time’s Web site. Do you know what HRC’s lead is without Gore?

  6. Thanks, Paula for the kind words. As it happens, my love of training horses and realizing results after a long, hard, campaign, translates to real life. The bottom line is, they have to love what they do and have enough heart to persevere and endure, no matter the conditions.

Hillary IS our “Rags to Riches” and our “Ruffian” who will upset the field besting them all by a country mile.

The meme I’m hearing now from the Obamamites is about whether she did or did not read the NIE report. As if it matters one way or another, now that Bush is ignoring the people’s call for troop withdrawal. Bush has a strategy in place, although we might not agree because he is turning a deaf ear to our wishes. He has a strategy of his own, he’s not revealing to the public.

Bush’s strategy has something to do with the time line of that colossal (hotel) fortress he’s building in Iraq. The Iraqi Embassy is scheduled for completion sometime in September.

IMO- This is when things will start happening. September, is a fateful month. All we hear is, in September, Gen Patreas will give his report about the effectiveness of the Surge.. The completion of the Iraqi Embassey….Will Bush be looking at Iran next?

Time will tell, it always does.

  7. Paula, the poll is not posted yet. We’ll post the link when it is officially published. There are some questions about this poll regarding when it was in the field.

There will likely be a Rasmussen national poll out tomorrow.

Mrs. Smith, we loved your comments. Did you read the post from a while back we published called “Rags To Riches”? We compared Hillary to Secretariat in that one. “Sprint horse” in your comment made us all laugh. See you at the track.

  8. >>

I sure did! In fact, the day she won the Belmont, I posted on another forum, it was a great omen for Hillary. The Shaminism of animals in our world represent the external forces surrounding us, telling us, what is going on in our lives.

That day, in that race, RTR broke barriers that hadn’t been broken in over a century. RTR and Hillary Clinton are The Tour de Force symbols of our lifetime and why I will do everything possible to clear the way for her in getting her elected as our next president.

Prejudice? No, not so much… πŸ™‚

  9. Thank you for clarifying when that Time poll was taken. The fact that it’s two months old explains why her lead is much smaller than in current polls.

BTW, Dennis Kucinich apparently is upset about that exchange between Hillary and Edwards, lol.

  10. Paula: the Time poll timing was strange. There are several tie in articles which might explain the delay for the poll release. Time held it until they could write their cover story. The cover story though is too dated. The religion and faith forum took place between the polling and the cover story. The poll went up on this site just for the record but it does show how much progress Hillary has made since the polls in mid-May.

Also, the new Rasmussen poll is on our poll section with the more typical, healthy Hillary leads.
